Is long haul the best option for a hot holiday in April?

While you can find some warm weather in Europe come April, if you’re looking for somewhere really hot your best option will be to venture further afield.

April is a perfect time to visit the Caribbean, when it’s quieter than the peak season and still offers lovely warm weather. If you really want to keep your flying time short, though, the Canary Islands are one of the hottest places in Europe during Easter, while the Costa del Sol offers plenty of daily sunshine.

At 28°C, we’re starting off the list with a scorcher.

Barbados is one of our top destinations in the month of April. Its Caribbean weather and atmosphere is a cure for the spring shower blues that you’ll leave behind in the UK. With April sitting just toward the end of the peak season, it’s an ideal time to visit, with beautiful weather and fewer crowds.

With a host of relaxing luxury hotels, water activities where you can meet  the local fish and some of the tastiest food in the Caribbean, Barbados has so much going for it for an April escape.

Of course, during April you can also make the most of the dry weather at the soft sand beaches on the west side of the island. Ideal if you’re travelling with children at Easter, the waves here are gentle and the shore is sheltered.

Mauritius is an island in the Indian Ocean off the coast of the African continent, with beautiful hilly landscapes, splashing waterfalls, white sand beaches and crystalline water. The temperature stays at an average of 25°C in April and, as summer is coming to an end, the rainfall begins to tail off.

One of the benefits about visiting this beautiful country in April is that for snorkelling, scuba diving and deep sea game-fishing, visibility is at it’s best due to calmer seas. 

So much of the coastline in Mauritius is untouched, leaving it as a pure paradise with plenty of opportunities to unwind. The island is also spectacular for outdoor activities; take a two-hour hike and climb up Le Pouce to see St. Louis from all perspectives or see the country on a Jeep safari through the stunning rainforests.

Mauritius is the perfect destination for a luxurious, relaxing holiday with lots of 5-star resorts that focus on health and wellbeing. Eco-friendly stargazing in western Australia

Now for something a little different, but no less spectacular.

Do you want to get away from it all, feel one with nature and enjoy quiet time by the ocean?

We suggest venturing down under to western Australia. The weather here in April is hot during the day with endless amounts to see and do. One of the amazing things about this side of the world is the wild open landscapes and the native wildlife such as kangaroos.

To see the best of the wilderness, you’ll want to head to the outback visiting places like Exmouth, Ningaloo Reef and the Cape Range National Park. From here you can swim with whale sharks from late March through to July, stargaze under the twinkling sky with no light pollution and explore through the winding gorges in the Australian bush.

One of Asia’s most popular resort destinations, Phuket is Thailand’s largest island located off its southern coast in the Andaman Sea, renowned for its many superb beaches, rocky capes, mountains and forested hills.

Perfect for family holidays during Easter, resorts include the 5-star Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket. Here all ages will have plenty to do, including land and watersports, cooking classes and exploring the islands. Phuket is a great base for exploring the nearby islands and must-see attractions, including world-famous places like Phang Nga Bay and the Phi Phi Islands.

One of our favourite excursions is exploring Hong Island, one of the most beautiful islands along the Andaman coast. In the middle of this beautiful island lies a hidden lagoon. These majestic rocks rise dramatically out of the sea and are interspersed with mangroves and fascinating hidden caves. Get up close to the caves by a guided sea canoe and by long tail boat. 

For more island-hopping, take in the larger Phi Phi Don and the smaller Phi Phi Ley islands by speedboat. Phi Phi Ley was the setting for the Hollywood film ‘The Beach’, which was shot mainly at the picturesque Maya Bay. At Phi Phi Don discover the amazing limestone cliffs, long sandy beaches and the clear emerald water. 

5. Twin-centre bliss in the British Virgin Islands & Antigua

Season: Dry season

How does a holiday to two incredible Caribbean islands sound for Easter? 

With year-round sunshine, sparkling sea landscapes and luxurious hotels, there’s so much to love about the Caribbean in April. For a true escape, look to the British Virgin Islands.

Take your first step into your holiday at Rosewood Little Dix Bay, an eco-conscious resort located on a stunning crescent beach in total tranquil surroundings. The best time to visit Miami is March to May when the temperatures hover around the mid 20’s and rainfall stays relatively low, giving you all the time in the world to soak up the heavenly beach vibes during an Easter break in April.

Miami is famed for it’s beautiful beach scenery, but there’s more to Miami than just sun and sand. If you love to shop until you drop, head to the Bal Harbour, Aventura Mall, Lincoln Road and Brickell Centre and outlet mall at Sawgrass Mills.

Visit unique neighbourhoods such as Little Havana, the Design District, and the Street Art of Wynwood Walls for a taste of culture in the area; make sure you pick up a cortadito coffee and stop by the excellent Cuban restaurants in the city. Miami is the perfect place to be for evening entertainment from varied nightlife attractions to superb mouth-watering restaurants.  

The fun doesn’t stop there. We suggest heading outside the city for a day trip – take in the Everglades or view Miami from a seaplane. The other fantastic option, being so close to the water, is sailing a luxury yacht around the bay, soaking up the sun and drinking Pina Colada.

Looking for the best places to visit in April? Whether you’re after beaches, the desert, or the green countryside, we have you covered with some amazing destinations. There are plenty of beautiful countries to visit in April.

This time of the year can be an excellent time to travel. It’s still low season in many places, but winter is finally nearing its end, and spring is usually full force. Because it’s not prime season in most places of the world you can generally find a deal on things like accommodation and tours. You’ll also find the crowds are much lower than during the busy summer season.

Iceland

I bet you didn’t think I would start out with Iceland – did you? Iceland can be one of the best places to visit in April. Days grow longer this month, and the Icelanders can almost smell the sweet summer air. Although the sun and warm weather are almost there, it still has a month to go until proper summer.

However, despite a few rainy days, April is the best time to visit Iceland for whale watching as it is the beginning of the whale season. There are plenty of whale-watching tours departing from Reykjavik.

You stand a great chance to see the minke whale up close!  I should also mention April brings puffin season too. Since it is still off-season in Iceland during this time, you may be able to score some reasonable low-season rates on hotels, rental cars, and campervans!

Greece

April sees a definite increase in temperatures in Greece, with a sunny start to the month and only a few rainy days scattered here and there. It’s an excellent time of year to go to Greece. You beat the summer crowds but also miss winter’s colder, wetter weather. The average temperature in Athens is 20°C, but after dark, it still drops quite a bit to 10°C. The sea is around 16°C, so it may be too cold to swim for a long time. However, you can still get some relaxing sunbathing in.

The sunset is around 8 pm, so you get long, beautiful days if you want more heat, head south, like to the island of Crete! The only downside of traveling the Greek islands in April is that the summer high season has yet to kick in, meaning many tourist-focused businesses may not be open. The upside? You’ll have the islands to yourself!

Cyprus

April in Cyprus is similar to the rest of the Mediterranean. The average temperature suddenly jumps to around 17°C, but it can easily reach the low 20s on really nice days.

There are long hours of sunshine every day, and it’s not too hot yet, making this a beautifully balanced time of year to visit Cyprus. Sure, April brings a little bit of isolated rain across the country, but it’s generally pretty nice, and the beaches will be dead quiet.

Except for around easter when many visitors turn up in places like Ayia Napa from across Europe thanks to the Easter Vacation period for schools, it’s nothing compared to Cyprus beaches in the summer.

South Africa

Fall is just around the corner in South Africa in April, but it’s not here yet, and it’s a great time to be in South Africa. The whole country is starting to cool down after an otherwise hot summer. But fall here won’t be like it is where you may be from. The average temperature in South Africa is 18°C, so it’s not freezing and is pleasant enough to enjoy any romantic activity in Cape Town.

Some evenings, however, the average temperature drops to 12°C. Bring layers for this time. When you get into the desert areas on safari, you will want a warm down jacket for nighttime. The seas are still reasonably warm, so surfing is a fun option and one of the best things to do on the South African coast. If you love surfing, the temperature (19°C) won’t be anywhere near stopping you.

It’s a great time of year for sightseeing and birdwatching; KwaZulu-Natal Midlands, in particular, this time of year is stunning.

Maldives

The Maldives is always a dream destination and one of the best countries to visit in April. During April, temperatures in the Maldives are an average of 29°C, and nighttime temperatures are about 26°C; you still won’t need anything to keep you warm in the evening.

If you like snorkeling and diving, you are also in luck in the Maldives in April – the sea climbs up to the hottest it gets all year – 30°C. That’s hotter than the air temperature! Crazy. It’s all about chilling on the beaches, and watersports, and enjoying the great weather. The Maldives is one of the most beautiful best places to travel in April!

Japan

Japan is always considered one of the best countries to visit in April!

Early April is the “main” start for hanami in Japan – cherry blossom viewing season. People will start spreading their blue tarpaulins from Hiroshima to Tokyo under the pink, blooming trees, arranging themselves with friends and plenty of snacks (and drinks) to celebrate the warmer weather.

There’s even an actual forecast for cherry blossom on the TV weather in Japan. The general rule of thumb is that the further south you are, the earlier it starts.

One thing to note: places like Kyoto, Hiroshima, Osaka, and Tokyo get very busy and crowded with tourists. People come to see the famous sights layered with the quintessential light pink of cherry blossom. All in all, April is a great time to visit Japan for the cherry blossoms.

April also signals an end to the drier weather of winter. The skies get more cloudy, it starts raining more, but then again, hiking to some beautiful Japanese waterfalls this time of year is much more pleasurable than in the cold. Wet weather gear, like a packable rain jacket, is advisable. Or do as Japanese people do and have your umbrella handy!

On the other hand, it gets warm enough for the beaches to open down in Okinawa. If you’re a fan of uncrowded beaches, this might be an excellent time to visit Okinawa – especially in late April.

Jordan

April is when spring properly begins in Jordan – even the desert offers up a view of myriad wildflowers. This is an excellent time of year to visit Jordan; temperatures aren’t too warm, and even the nights aren’t that cold anymore.

Being such a “perfect” time of year to visit weather-wise, this also means that it’s popular with tourists, and sights begin to get busy. However, if you don’t mind crowds, Jordan is a great place to visit in April. Amman is a comfortable 22°C, as is Petra; the Dead Sea and Aqaba are reaching temperatures of 30°C by now. There’s nothing better than walking in Wadi Rum during the middle of the day and not sweating your buns too!

Portugal

Portugal is another one of the best countries to visit in April. It is a beautiful spring month in Portugal; this is the month when you’ll get to enjoy some good Easter celebrations, too. Weather-wise, it’s getting good in April. Lisbon hits highs of 20°C, but be warned; it can still get quite cold in the evenings. It’s a great time of year to visit Portugal, especially the countryside or the Algarve.

Spring flowers will bloom, and the land will burst into life, preparing for summer. Days are starting to get longer as well: at the start of April, the sun sets at 8 pm, but by the end of the month, it’s more like 8:40 pm, meaning lots of time for adventure!

Peru

If you are looking for somewhere in South America to head in April, consider Peru! April is another dry and sunny month for Peru’s coastal regions and the deserts. Lima sees highs of 24°C and lows of 18°C. It’s shoulder season in the country, and things should be a little cheaper and less busy.

The rainy season starts to ease off in the Andes in places like Lake Titicaca and Cusco. There’s a high of about 19°C, and there’s still quite a lot of cloud cover, but the natural scenery is beautiful here. The Amazon Rainforest is still hot and humid, with highs of 31°C; rain occurs in the afternoon either in downpours or all-out storms. All in all, it’s a great time to visit Peruvian sights like Machu Picchu!

Turkey

April is a great time to visit Turkey. The country sees the start of spring begin to happen, and the temperatures start to reflect that. The average high across the country is 15°C (nights being about 8°C).

Days continue to get longer, with the sunset inching towards 8 pm as April closes and we get nearer to summer. Since it’s a few months from complete summer, crowds are low, helpful in popular places like Istanbul and Cappadocia.

For warmer weather at this time of year, coastal regions – particularly the south – are where it’s at. Marmaris and Antalya see averages of 21°C in April, and the sea is a bearable 18°C if you want to take a swim. There’s still rain, and the weather can generally be pretty changeable, especially in more inland and mountainous areas. Silver lining – it’s tulip season in Turkey!

Sri Lanka

One of the best places to visit in April is Sri Lanka. It’s the last month of “prime” tourist season; however, April is when Sri Lanka’s monsoon season starts, but it’s still a great time to visit, especially towards the beginning of the month.

Settling in towards the end of the month, rain increases and is pretty much a daily feature till June. The southern and western coasts are the first areas of Sri Lanka to see an increase in rain. Kandy gets temperatures around the mid-twenties and is prime for trekking: try out trails in the Knuckles Mountain Range.

That being said, if you get there before the 15th of the month, most of April is generally pretty warm and sunny, with temperatures in the early 30s and plenty of sunshine to get out there and enjoy!

Egypt

What is one of the best countries to visit in April? Egypt! April is a month of change weather-wise making it an enjoyable time to visit. Alexandria and other northern areas lack humidity and now see warm, sunny days with only a bit of patchy rain here and there.

Cairo is warm, with some rain, average temperatures of 24°C (though it can drop to 14°C at night), and exceptionally high humidity – 60 to 70%. Hong Kong

Hong Kong is a place like no other, and there are so many things to do there you’ll never get bored. You could spend a layover here or enjoy the month in Hong Kong and find delicious food on every corner, incredible hikes, and fun nightlife.

April is spring in Hong Kong, meaning it is beautiful to visit. Spring is also shoulder season, so it will be less crowded, but still expect to find crowds – it’s Hong Kong, after all. Each new street brings something new and exciting. The food, the sights, the buildings, and the textures, make Hong Kong a must-visit destination in April!

Utah, United States

Utah is one of the best places to visit in April, especially if you want to hike in the desert. The last time we traveled to Utah, we were so happy that we were there in early April. The sun was plentiful, and the temperatures were perfect for getting outside.

From hiking Angels Landing in Zion National Park to seeing Delicate Arch in Arches National Park around Moab and jetting off on all the best hikes in Bryce, there were only two things we could think about…

How amazing the landscapes were and how brutally hot it must be in July and August. If you want to get to the American Southwest, we highly recommend venturing there in April before the weather gets too warm. Not only is April fantastic in the desert, but if you head north, you can still get some fantastic skiing in at all the impressive Salt Lake City ski resorts!

✈️Where to go on vacation in April by the sea: 15 warm spots

“April, sweet sleep” has always been an old popular adage, so why not do it in total relaxation, curled up on a warm beach, lulled by the gentle sound of the waves? In Europe or the rest of the world, the staff will point you to dream destinations, to be the target of a vacation you will hardly forget.

1 – Road trip to Las Vegas and the U.S.

The United States never goes out of fashion. With a well-organized road trip, you will discover incredible nature and breathtaking landscapes. A tour along the west coast to San Diego, passing through the Grand Canyon, Antelope Canyon, Lake Powell, Death Valley with its sailing stones and Sedona, famous for its red rocks. Save two or three days for Las Vegas and its must-see shows, casinos and fabulous hotels. The period is ideal to avoid the unbearable summer heat. Already in May, reaching 40 degrees, April is the last good month to visit Death Valley as well.

Pros and cons of this trip? You will have the opportunity to visit many beautiful places in one trip. On the other hand, the ocean water is particularly cold and … the heat is already starting to get intense!

In April, local temperatures are particularly acceptable; during the rest of the year, Oman is characterized by particularly mild winters, sweltering summers and low rainfall.

The Sultanate is really a pearl to visit completely, but the places particularly recommended to enjoy a good anticipation of summer are there. White Beach of As Sawadi and the virgin islands Daymaniyat, an archipelago of 9 islands, all uninhabited, declared natural park.

Overcoming the risk of hurricanes (more real between the months of August and October), the coral archipelago can offer the visitor more than pleasant beaches in April, with temperatures perhaps not very mild at night, but absolutely dreamy during the day. In April, with highs that can sometimes reach 29 °.

Do not forget to take a trip to the “cosmopolitan” Providenciales, intended mainly for tourists from North America, and dive into the clear waters of Salt Cay, to familiarize yourself with the cetaceans that inhabit these pristine seas.

For those who want to move a little more, a solution for a spring vacation is represented by Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam: its lake of the returned sword, the one-pillar pagoda and Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, with the embalmed body of the president, are historical monuments much appreciated by tourists.

April is the ideal month because temperatures are very pleasant (22/28 °), and we are out of the risk of cyclones that will occur the following month, although in the north they are more frequent in July-August.

6 – Barbados, Caribbean

Barbados is a royal nation in its own right; part of the Lesser Antilles archipelago, this oasis of peace and eternal warmth, located between the Caribbean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean, is the ideal stop for all those looking for a stay of total relaxation, whose only commitment is to take a tan to the fullest, even in not exactly the summer months.


Its capital, Bridgetown, is located along the coast and is one of the most important centers of the island; if you are an alcohol lover, you cannot miss the opportunity to taste the local rum, one of the best known in the world: be careful not to overdo it!
