Sixth
Form
Having satisfactorily completed the
IGCSE courses, most IBYS students continue on to a two year General Certificate
of Education "A" level (Advanced level) course in their chosen subject
areas.
British universities require students to have a minimum of three "A" level
passes in order to be considered for entry. The programme typically consists
of a two year course of study in the chosen subjects compatible with the
future academic programme and career path of the student. The externally
produced and assessed "A" level examinations are usually completed by age
18 or 19 at which stage the student is fully prepared for university entrance
and the rigors of university life.
At the commencement of the "A" level programme most IBYS students will already
have a good "A" level pass in Spanish which they will have gained with their
IGCSE's inYear 11 of the Senior School, therefore only three of the courses
shown below will be selected to study at "A" level.

The sixth form programme is also
applicable for students requiring U.S. High School graduation certification
and to prepare them for taking the United States T.O.E.F.L.and S.A.T. tests
both of which are required for university entrance in the U.S.A. It should
be noted that in many countries including the United States and Canada, three
"A" level passes combined with a minimum of five GCSE passes is equivalent
to the completion of the first or "Freshman" year of university and will
be accepted as such.
"A" level passes are also accepted for entry to universities throughout Europe
and students opting to continue their education outside of U.K. or U.S.A.
should confirm the subject requirements for particular degree courses.
IBYS is unique in offering a comprehensive and highly personalised placement service for pupils who intend to continue their education in the U.K. or other parts of the world. This service provides the counseling, information, communication and liaison necessary to ensure that each student moves on to a university or place of further education, appropriate to his/her needs.
