Canary Islands will require tourists to test for COVID-19 upon arrival
02.11.2020
Spanish resorts are looking for ways to safely receive tourists. Unlike other countries where a negative coronavirus test is required upon entry, the Canary and Balearic Islands intend to require such a certificate upon settlement. Funds are also allocated to stimulate air traffic.
THE CERTIFICATE OF THE ABSENCE OF CORONAVIRUS WILL BE ASKED WHEN YOU CHECK IN
The Canary Islands have become the first region in Spain to introduce special rules for the reception of local and foreign tourists. The government of the archipelago, as well as the authorities of other autonomies of Spain, insist on the introduction of a procedure for checking travelers at the airport – with admission to the country on the basis of a certificate with a negative PCR test result for COVID-19.
However, official Madrid does not consider this measure relevant for all regions due to different volumes of tourist flows. In addition, the launch of such a procedure will require the creation of mobile laboratories for repeated express tests at the airport. The federal government, let alone airports, has no funds for this.
In an attempt to save the winter season, the Canaries independently decide on the issue of sanitary control of arrivals on their own.
A law has been passed requiring all tourists over the age of 12 to present a negative test for COVID-19 upon check-in at a hotel, apartment or tourist villa (valid for no more than 72 hours). The property management is required to provide written notice of this requirement at the time of booking.
If tourists do not have a test, they will have to be tested at a clinic or laboratory already in the Canary Islands at their own expense. Accommodation facilities should provide information about such medical facilities. While waiting for the test results, the tourist cannot use the common areas of the hotel. If a tourist refuses to provide test results or be tested, then accommodation will be denied.
The authorities of the Canary Islands will provide a “grace” period (15 days) until the entry into force of the law on the provision of a PCR test for coronavirus, so that information about the new admission rules reaches tourists and tour operators.
Recall that the Canary Islands were the first in Spain to announce the provision of extended insurance to all tourists, covering most situations related to COVID-19, including quarantine. Thus, 100 places in Iter villas have been prepared for those infected with the coronavirus with a mild course of the disease. The autonomy pays for the accommodation of such sick tourists.
AIRLINES TO BE PAYED FOR TOURISTS
The Spanish archipelago is launching another initiative to boost tourism. The autonomy is ready to pay airlines for the restoration of domestic and international routes, including with third countries.
At the start of the winter season (November-December), about 1 million euros will be allocated for these purposes; in 2021, the Ministry of Tourism of the region plans to increase this amount. The maximum amount that each airline can receive when operating flights to the Canary Islands is 150,000 euros. For each brought foreign tourist will pay 4 euros, for domestic – 2 euros.
Recall that last winter season Aeroflot flew to the Canary Islands on a daily basis, two flights a week were operated by S7.
THE BALEARS ARE READY TO FOLLOW THE CANARY ISLANDS
The Balearic Islands may follow the example of the Canary Islands. They are also ready to legalize PCR tests for tourists at the regional level in order to create safe “tourist corridors” with key entry markets.
Unlike the Canary archipelago, the situation with tourism in the Balearic Islands is more complicated. The “low” season has come in this direction.
In addition, the UK and Germany have removed the Canaries from their respective lists of risk areas, while Mallorca, Menorca and the other Balearic Islands in these countries have been quarantined, as are other regions of Spain.

Sea
Unfortunately, the warm coast and the bright rays of the sun in November can only be found outside of Russia.
The choice of destinations is great, Mauritius, Morocco, UAE, India and many others. Each of the destinations can offer you sunny weather, magnificent beaches and a rich program.
Israel will please its guests with beautiful landscape and warm sun. In November, you can swim and sunbathe at the Dead Sea without fear for your health. The water temperature during these months ranges from +22C to +24C.
The water temperature in the Canary Islands does not fall below +20C all year round. The Canary Islands are the perfect place for a relaxed and relaxing holiday.
Excursion rest
For those who are bored with a measured and calm vacation by the sea, we recommend going on a sightseeing tour of Europe or Russia.
In November, you can have a good rest on the territory of Russia. For example, go along the Golden Ring route. Key cities of this route: Suzdal, Vladimir, Yaroslavl, Kostroma, Pereyaslavl-Zalessky, Rostov, Sergiev Posad, Ivanovo. The trip will last from 7 to 30 days, depending on the selected cities.
November is an ideal month for long walks in the cities of Southern Europe. Traveling in Spain, Greece or Italy will cost you several times cheaper than in the summer months, and you will take away two or even three times more impressions. Partly due to the lack of a scurrying crowd of tourists and onlookers.
Leisure with children
Who said vacationing with kids isn’t fun? The warm sun, the absence of cold winds and rains will cheer up not only the child, but also the parents. In addition, there are so many interesting places and amusement parks in Europe.
If you are in Paris, be sure to visit Disneyland and Port Aventura (more suitable for young people). Munich has a BMW Wel museum, and Maranello, Italy has a Ferreri museum. Many palaces and castles are located in Spain and Portugal.
The best November events worth visiting!
– November 1-2, Mexico will host a torchlight procession for the Day of the Dead.
– 5 November in England Guy Fawkes Night
– On 3-6 November the Berlin Jazz Festival will take place.
