Solution: about first meetings, disappointments and first love
– I have never thought about buying property abroad. My husband and I came to rest for a couple of weeks in Tenerife. And it was love at first sight. An absolute hit in the heart, in the soul. There was a click in the brain, the puzzle was formed. I realized that I could no longer live without the island. The place I’ve been looking for all my life. She left for Moscow, leaving all her things on the island.
I don’t remember why we chose Tenerife for our holiday. Probably because they haven’t been here yet. Analyzing the situation today, I understand that only the Lord could send us here, deciding to make such a gift.
We did not want to live in a hotel, and while still in Moscow, we booked an apartment in one of the best areas – in Del Duque. Gentlemen, never use the services of private realtors! They fool our brother in full. We rented a one-bedroom apartment (2 rooms) for €750 per week. We did not receive the promised Internet, although this was agreed in advance, nor the iron, nor the silence that was guaranteed. The Internet, of course, was installed in a few days. And for the claims made for non-compliance with the agreed conditions, they offered to move to another place, without a refund. That is, pay again, it’s not our fault that you have good hearing, sighted eyes, and even your memory is in order!
Despite all these unpleasant moments, love happened to the island. Some extraordinary energy, fantastic beauty of nature, amazing kindness and smiling people, ideal roads, bewitching ocean, atmosphere of peace and harmony…
God led us by a thread. The fact that we will live here in the very near future, I knew on the second day of my stay. Life is so short and it’s only one, without rehearsals. And less than half remained. But where to turn, how not to fall for the next “divorces”, especially without knowing the language …
Choice: about providence, professionalism and difference in tastes
Providence intervened. My husband and I were walking to the beach and on the way I needed to get into the ladies’ room. We went to the shopping center “Paris”. While I was on my own business, my husband went to the agency, which was located right in the shopping center, seeing an ad in Russian about renting a car. When I returned, my husband was already joking with might and main, telling jokes. That’s how we met our realtor, and later became friends.
We had a difficult task ahead of us. It was necessary to find an object for permanent residence. This set certain conditions – a developed infrastructure, including for obtaining a decent education for a child of 13 years old. By the way, in the territorial sense, there was no stumbling block here, because. buses run from each school, collecting children around the island. It is very comfortable.
First we decided to take a look, or even take a closer look, get acquainted with various real estate options, explore different areas of the island. We were kindly given this opportunity. Very mobile and plentiful.
Getting into the hands of a professional, you get the entire information package for your budget. Starting from opening a bank account, advice on possible mortgage lending, a list of documents required to obtain a residence permit, and finally, simple, purely human tips on the intricacies of behavior and the rules of relationships in a new environment for you. This is a very valuable experience.
I’m sure it’s necessary to minimize unnecessary chores. You don’t run into every piece of paper. If you strictly follow the instructions from a professional, then I assure you, everything will go without a hitch, without a hitch. The issue of trust is key here. And the most difficult. You can get in so that it doesn’t seem a little. And then you get tired of looking for the truth. And there are many such cases. Especially among our brother, no matter how sad it is to state. Therefore, in my opinion, the main thing is to choose the right company. Everything in this world has its price. Don’t fall for tricks. Any compromise should alert you.
So, back to what I bought and why. Chose a small two-story villa on the secondary market. Its area, together with the terrace, is a little more than 210 square meters. m. Located in the south of the island, in a very cozy complex, consisting of detached villas.
Why “secondary”? I love “prayer” places. I want to go in and live right away, replacing only what I consider necessary to replace. But that’s a matter of personal preference. The view was my first sine qua non. For me, the view is much more important than the footage. For me, contemplation is the best medicine. Perhaps this is the only issue on which we disagreed with the realtor. For her, my choice was, to put it mildly, unexpected. For this budget it was possible to pick up a bigger house. To each his own. “Only the heart is sensitive.”

Lifestyle: about schools, carnivals and inner freedom
The issue of education was resolved quickly. If you have a residence permit, it is not difficult to assign a child to a school. You can give it to both municipal and private. Public school education is free. From the point of view of entering the language environment, if the child is small, attending such a school may even be useful.
There are three schools worth paying attention to in the south of the island. These are Colegio Aleman (German college), colegio Luther King (teaching is bilingual) and Wingate school (a purely English private school, after which a Cambridge certificate is issued). In this school, Spanish is taught as a second language and French is also taught until the 10th grade.
Our child went to Wingate school after passing an interview in English in all subjects. School is expensive. The average price per month is €500, depending on the age of the child. This does not include transport costs. Food must be provided with you. Plus, the cost of textbooks, uniforms. Payment is made once every three months. It turns out three times for the academic year for about €1,500 euros. This is the most expensive school.
Our family lives on the island. There are no seasons and no seasons. It’s always in season here. I really like Spanish cuisine, which is distinguished by its natural products and simple dishes from rabbit, goat, octopus, fish … In general, the richer you are, the more you are happy. But there are so many restaurants and cafes here that any gourmet will find a cuisine to their liking.
It’s never boring. All my life I have been striving for a quiet measured life in a small space. Everything is close. Here’s a gym, here’s yoga, here’s flamenco. Yes, whatever your heart desires! I don’t understand what is boring. But this is very individual. Therefore, everyone chooses for themselves.
We buy groceries in supermarkets. On weekends, there is a market where Canarians sell their own organically grown vegetables and fruits. The taste is very different from Moscow food, for the better. There are two Russian grocery stores where you can buy everything you miss a lot. There are fish markets where they sell what they just caught from the ocean.
Utility bills, like everywhere else, consist of payments for electricity and water, plus, if you live in a complex, you will pay monthly for the maintenance of the common area (pool, garden). The amount of this payment in each complex is different. Everything is very civilized – you can see what you pay money for by the bills.
It must be said that nothing happens quickly on the island, no one is in a hurry, people live a measured calm life. The most important thing in my phrase is “people live”. Yes, only here I understood the true meaning of this word. No one, except Russians, fusses, but this is already a national trait that makes you spin like a top in order to survive.
Acquaintance with culture and traditions occurs gradually. But it’s so great! How many holidays! Carnivals, processions, fantastic beauty feast of flowers.
