Canary Islands airports are top of the list for the increase in the number of air passengers scheduled for Summer 2022, compared to 2019, in the whole of Spain with an increase of 9%. According to data from AENA, which manages all of Spain’s airports, there are 31.5 million seats scheduled to the archipelago.
Nationally there are 215.6 million flight seats scheduled to Spain for the summer season, which represents an increase of 1.6% with respect to the final numbers of the 2019 summer season, before the start of the pandemic.
This figure is the result of the latest adjustments made by the airlines, which are common in the weeks before the start of the season, and don’t include any flights from Ukraine or Russia, which normally represent around 1% of the scheduled seats.
As for flights, these figures represent just over 1.2 million commercial operations, which is a decrease of 1.3% compared to the 2019 summer season.
The airports from which the most traffic of these passengers are Madrid-Barajas, with more than 42.6 million (95% recovery), and Barcelona-El Prat, with more than 36.2 million (90% recovery).
RECOVERY IN THE CANARY AND BALEARIC ISLANDS:
In the Canary Islands, Gran Canaria has the most flight seats scheduled with 8.5 million, a 3% increase over 2019; followed by Tenerife Sur, with 7.3 million, 12% more, and Lanzarote, with 5.6 million, 15% more.
The expected growth in the Balearic Islands airports also stands out: Palma de Mallorca is expected to have an 11% increase in seats (31. 2 million), Ibiza an 11% increase (9.3 million), and Menorca, with an increase of 40% (5.1 million places).
By geographical area, the offer of seats in the domestic market between Spanish airports increased by 7%, with 69.3 million seats, while in the international market, the number has decreased by 1%, with more than 146.4 million.
After Spain, the countries where airlines have offered the highest number of seats for the 2022 summer season are the United Kingdom with 35 million (-3%), Germany, with 21.6 million (-6%), and Italy with 13 million seats offered (+5%).
AENA assures that the general data for this 2022 summer season is “positive”, but acknowledges that the degree of uncertainty “remains high” due to the evolution of the pandemic, the conflict in Ukraine, or the rise in fuel prices. They advise that it is always important to remember that flight schedules are subject to change by airlines.

Gran Canaria lives up to its cliché as a continent in miniature, with a dramatic variation of terrain, ranging from the green and leafy north to the mountainous interior and desert south. Contrasting with these unspoiled peaks and valleys is a rugged coastline interspersed with white sandy beaches and, more famously (and depressingly), a garish tiara of purpose-built holiday resorts. Beyond the sands, though, Gran Canaria can keep the adrenalin pumping, with scope for hiking, cycling and watersports, while culture-vultures can be similarly satiated, particularly in the historic cosmopolitan capital of Las Palmas.

Spain is one of the five most visited countries in the world by tourists. There are more than two thousand beaches for every taste: with white sand or sheer cliffs, on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea or the Atlantic Ocean, on the mainland or on the islands of the Canary and Balearic archipelagos. The beaches of Spain, combined with the variety of types of recreation offered, Spanish cuisine with excellent wines, unique nature, climate and stunning architecture, make you fall in love with this country and come back here for new experiences. nine0003
The climate in each region of Spain is different, it is determined by the amazingly diverse relief of the Iberian Peninsula, most of which is made up of mountains. Therefore, holidays in Spain will be comfortable for tourists with different preferences. Lovers of a mild and humid climate will suit the northern ocean coast. Those who like the hotter summer sun choose tours to Spain to the southern Mediterranean beaches. Those who prefer non-beach holidays spend their holidays in the central mainland of the country: the Cantabrian mountains protect it from the influence of the ocean, creating here a continental climate with a clear division into seasons. A completely separate story – the Canary Islands. A beach holiday in the Canary Islands lasts all year round, because the water in the sea, due to its proximity to Africa, is never below +20 °C here. nine0003
Tourists from all over the world come to this sunny country to see its unique monuments of art and architecture with their own eyes. There is something to see in Spain: the creations of Gaudi in Barcelona, the Prado Museum, the ancient Roman aqueduct, luxurious palaces, beautiful cathedrals and temples. Many sights and even entire cities of Spain are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List. Museums offer Russian tourists audio guides in Russian.
Each province in Spain is proud of its traditions and offers guests masterpieces made by local craftsmen: ceramics, pottery, silver and gold jewelry with national ornaments, glassware and much more. But people come to Spain not only for souvenirs, shopping tours for summer and winter sales of clothes and shoes are in great demand. nine0003
Active holidays are very popular in Spain. In addition to diving in the warm Mediterranean Sea and ski resorts in the northern part of the mainland, tourists are attracted by mountain jeep rides to waterfalls and pristine lakes or traveling to dolphins on a sailing catamaran. Hunting and fishing in Spain are very popular, because not every hunter gets a chance to go on a wild boar, and a fisherman – to brag about caught tuna or catfish. For fans of extreme sports, aviation centers offer to take pilot courses and take a trip on a tourist plane or a flight with aerobatics. And in autumn, lovers of rocks come to Spain, from beginner climbers to professionals – the Spanish mountains are perfect for climbing routes of all categories of difficulty. nine0003
Cheerful youth companies, when choosing trips to Spain, usually stop on the islands of the Balearic archipelago or in large cities such as Madrid and Barcelona – they are famous for their nightclubs and discos.
Spain is also famous for its festivals: La Tomatino – a real fight with tomatoes; “Flower Battle” in Laredo – a flower festival, the main event of which is a parade of unusually decorated carriages; wine festival in Lleda and others.
And, finally, only in Spain you can visit the famous Spanish wineries, enjoy real flamenco or tickle your nerves on the encierro, running away from angry bulls through the streets of Pamplona. nine0003
