Very Good

Very good overall. On our last day we had a late flight, the hotel gave us a complementary room for half an hour in the afternoon to freshen up before going to the airport. This was much appreciated.

This is a superb hotel right on the seafront.It has wonderful facilities with multiple bars and restaurants,spa,fitness centre and a huge heated pool.The check in process for our party of 20 was seamless and the rooms were excellent.All the staff were very friendly.Fantastic breakfast before golf.

We (party of four couples) asked to be located away from the football colours and frankly , the kiss me quick hats etc , in Tenerife. Although we knew we were told this was the nice part of Las Americas it was absolutely NOT. Come out the front door or water front door of the hotel and you’re right in with the masses and the 4.99 breakfasts. However , on saying that, if you’re happy not to venture out of the hotel and just stay within the confines of their property then it is an oasis of calm and wonderful service.
We went for standard rooms and they were just that – standard. A double was two small singles shoved together. We were disappointed to see that the mattresses had no covers and that the bed sheets didn’t really fit. Our shower was adequate and the rain shower didn’t work ; we asked for it to be fixed but to no avail.
However , the service and food (especially the main buffet) we’re excellent and the bars great fun. These qualities made up for any slight negatives we might have mentioned.

Tenerife Part 2 Orchid Garden and Botanical Garden in Puerto de la Cruz

The second day in Tenerife is a foray into the city for a portion of new experiences. The town is located on the slope of volcanic mountains, but these small volcanoes fell asleep so long ago that they turned into green hills. On one of these hills, I almost accidentally discovered a small oasis – a tropical orchid garden, with cozy gazebos. nine0003 Agatha Christie loved to sit here, who was vacationing in Puerto de la Cruz in 1927. It was in this garden in the shade of magnolias under the chirping of parrots that she conceived and wrote 3 stories with action in tropical countries. Alexander von Humboldt, explorer and naturalist, also stayed here.

The orchid garden is quite small, but you can see with your own eyes how these noble, exquisite flowers grow in the wild. And what a variety of shapes and colors! Now, when, although quite expensive, you can buy orchids home to be surprised at how long they bloom, even when it snows outside, these flowers do not seem so unusual. nine0003 And what kind of orchids will not be brought to flower exhibitions from distant countries! Novelty is leaving, people are spoiled by the wonders of nature and lose the ability to be amazed, but not so long ago, during the time of Agatha Christie, it was a real miracle to be on a tropical island lost in the ocean and sit in a garden of blooming orchids.

On this paradise island, where late spring or early summer all year round, the ocean splashes under the mountain, and on the slope of an extinct volcano a garden with blooming orchids, you feel that you have miraculously found yourself in another dimension, or outside of time, outside of civilization with its Internet, anxieties, worries, fuss, cold and snow. nine0004

Here the wind always rustled in the fan palms, budgerigars flew from branch to branch, a green iguana could regally crawl out from behind the bushes and freeze like a stone statue, and in the damp shade near the waterfalls white, pink, crimson, purple, spotted orchids.

And so it always was, and almost 100 years ago, when Agatha Christie was sitting on the same bench in the gazebo, entwined with blooming bougainvilleas, and scribbling her notes. nine0003

Away, on a neighboring hill, which was also part of the uneven slope of the old volcano, there is a whole tropical forest. This is a botanical garden, carefully created from tropical plants brought from expeditions, mainly from Latin America and Australia.

Here you can see everything – breadfruit with massive green fruits, and thick echoing baobab, and flowering yuccas, and majestic eucalyptus trees with white, shed trunks and spreading crowns, southern pines with long needles, fan and date palms, and unchanged dragon trees.

And what an abundance of flowers! There are whole bushes of some paradise birds peeping out of the thickets and winking at each other, and amaryllis of gigantic size with scarlet clusters of flowers. In general, here all the plants take on unprecedented sizes, in the mountains I even saw flowers – copies of our dandelions, only under a meter tall! nine0004

The garden was formed almost by accident, the fact is that all specimens of exotic plants brought by discoverers and naturalists from America, Australia, South Africa, the Pacific Islands ocean, before being sent to Europe, they landed here, on a volcanic island with an ideal climate, to see how they would take root. They took root, grew out, and the Botanical Garden was formed. It only periodically has to be watered with a hose, causing artificial tropical rain. nine0004

The garden is currently in the hands of an English family who have decided to open it to the public to share their wonders.

Litra Sitio’s garden has been visited by many famous visitors, such as the German botanist, inventor and explorer Alexander von Humboldt, the pirate writer Agatha Christie or the painter Marianne North, whose some copies of his works adorn the garden and prove that it has remained almost untouched for almost 150 years.

An oasis of freshness in a dry landscape

As soon as you enter, the Sitio Liter garden invites you on a journey of luxury and freshness. The water is very present and accompanies the visitor with a constant rustle. The fountains are surrounded by pergolas and columns, the swimming pool is surrounded by different types of palm trees full of water lilies: everything is there to create a dream environment.

Shaded paths allow you to make a harmonious journey through the flora, sometimes tropical, sometimes local, the most beautiful of which is without a doubt Drago, which is several hundred years old. Huge strelitzias show their bird flowers, brugmansias and luxurious bluebells sit side by side Canarian Phoenix majestic, while the island’s succulent aeoniums benefit from the slightest ray of sunshine in the company of Echinocactus and other Pachycereus from Mexico.

Climbing plants rise to storm pergolas, red or white passionflower, plumbago, bougainvillea, which give the spectacle an explosion of color.

Some strategically placed benches offer a contemplative break through the lush vegetation before diving into the tropical world orchids .
