Fuerteventura is the second largest island in the Canary Islands, however it remains as one of the least developed. The island has some incredible topography and even better kitesurfing conditions. This makes it a kitesurfer’s paradise.

Along the east coast, you will find many fantastic beaches while the west coast is a bit rockier and exposed to the Atlantic swell. In the north of the island is where you will find the main tourist resort of Corralejo and in the south-east you will find some quieter beach resorts perfect for kitesurfing holidays for families or the avid kitesurf traveler.

Here are some of the bests spots on the island for kitesurfing:

Corralejo

In the north of the island at Corralejo is the stunning kitesurfing beach called Flag Beach. The surrounding area and most of the beach is part of a beautiful nature reserve. The windiest time is in the summer when the big high pressure stays over the Atlantic and there is a low over the Sahara. These combine to give a reliable cross-shore wind at Flag Beach. Here you will find some small waves along the beach and some great flat water sections that are perfect for learning to kitesurf. Bring the whole family along on your kitesurf holiday as this destination has amazing hotels with great activities and stunning beaches.

The Gran Hotel Atlantis is considered to be one of the best hotels in Fuerteventura. Costa Calma

Sotavento

Sotavento is located at the very south of Fuerteventura and provides flat to choppy conditions and is the windiest spot on the island. This destination is ideal as either a dedicated kitesurf holiday or a family holiday. To the south, there is perfect beginner spot, while the area to the north is better for experienced kitesurfers. There is a lot of space on the beach, especially at low tide, so you shouldn’t be bothered by crowds, even in peak season. The best wind in Sotavento is between April and October, however it is possible to get some great conditions in winter. During the windiest days in Sotavento, the wind speeds can reach up to 40+ knots.

The Meliá Gorriones Hotel is set on a 30km long beach in a protected natural environment. This stunning hotel offers two outdoor swimming pools, a spa with Turkish baths, an onsite watersports centre, tennis and volleyball courts, a mini club for ages 5-12 with a playground, kids pool, organised activities and even stargazing in the hotel’s own observatory. Kitesurfing & kite area on Fuerteventura

The kite area Fuerteventura is known for its very constant winds throughout the year.

The strong, constant north-east trade wind always blows here, especially in the summer months. Our kite training takes place directly on the World Cup beach in Sotavento. Optimal training conditions in a shallow lagoon, protected by a sandbank, give you the security you need to learn. In a dreamy location, the lagoon spreads over the beach of Sotavento depending on the tide. Over a length of 4km, an up to 300m wide, shallow area is filled with sea water.

Our kitesurfing equipment is professional, well-maintained and insured.

For our training we work with various kites from the brands CORE, Flysurfer and Wainman Hawaii in order to cover the largest possible wind range. All kites are up to date and are replaced every six months.

For the second year in a row, CORE has succeeded in developing an extremely harmonious kite with the Nexus, which is not only a miracle in comfort with a lot of power and a large wind range, but also displays a sportiness that can only be found in this combination rarely finds. Therefore, we can only recommend everyone who is looking for a kite with a wide range of uses to give this kite a try.

With the Wainman Hawaii School Edition we have a stable, easy-to-use and powerful kite with a huge range of uses. Even in strong, gusty winds, it flies super relaxed. You will love him and he will take you to the next level.
