Beautiful day trip – not one to be missed.

Jan 2023 • Family

Beautiful place, it felt like going back in time because it was so authentically Spanish and such a simple and peaceful way of life for those 750 that live there.

a place to slow down

Feb 2022

The day trip to Graciosa had been a highlight of our two-weeks stay on Lanzarote. It was the only one of the inhabited islands of the Canaries I had not visited before. After arriving by ferry from Orzola at Graciosa’s main settlement Caleta del Sebo my wife and me took off for a walk around the northern part of the island with several areas not allowing the access of cars or bicycles, especially near Playa de la Lambra.

From the hike we especially liked the coastal path in the beginning towards the only other settlement on Graciosa: Pedro Barba, a former fishing village, now a rather upscale holiday place with lovely whitewashed houses, with beautiful gardens and many palm trees. From here we continued to Playa de la Lambra, also called Playa del Ambar. On a sign it says that it is a dangerous beach, as is so often the case in the Canary islands with beaches facing north. In the sandy area more inland we were surprised to find thousands of empty white snail shells.

Interesting it is also to study the few halophytic plants growing here on mostly sandy soil like Moquin’s Traganum, Sea kale (Crambe maritima) or Sea spurge (Euphorbia paralias). Bypassing the red Montaña Bermeja we arrived at Playa de las Conchas, said to be the Canary Islands most beautiful beach, to which I must agree. Golden sand for about 400m with the islet Montaña Clara out in the sea. Nobody was there, when we passed by. Here too there is a warning, thus not a place recommended for a swim.

The direct way back from Playa de las Conchas to Caleta del Sebo is a rather dull, straight track. At least one can avoid the bigger sandy road, with also car traffic, by using a smaller alternative track to the east of it – all straight though as well. At the end, before departure, we walked through the harbour village with its sand covered streets, with a few cafés and restaurants and enjoyed its very laid back atmosphere.

Wonderful small island near Lanzarote

Dec 2021 • Solo

Isla Graciosa is a small island located next to the North of Lanzarote Island. In fact, you can arrive there only by boat from Órzola town in Lanzarote, the nearest town. I came here to do a one day excursion by bike and by walk and really it was wonderful. I could eat a sandwich in one of the bars (Mesón de la Tierra) in the main town called Caleta de Debò. Also, I could rent a bike in the same town (La Graciosa Desiré) and I began the excursion. i could see the most important places in the island like Playa de las Conchas (Conchas Beach), which is fantastic with amazing views of three other uninhabited islands and some different colors (red, yellow, brown, black) due to volcano stones. Also, I visited Montaña Bermeja (Red Mountain), from where I saw amazing views of the surroundings. The Arco de los Caletones, a natural rock formation, which seems and arch and from where you can see very nice views of the sea and the coast. Pedro Barba, the other smallest town in the island. Or Montaña Amarilla (Yellow Mountain) with his beach, which are also very beautiful. At the end, I could see from far La Francesa Beach, a long sand beach near Caleta de Sebo. Really, fantastic island and colors! Top, of you visit Lanzarote.
(See also Mesón de la Tierra, Playa de las Conchas, Playa La Francesa, Playa Montaña Amarilla, Montaña Bermeja, Montaña Amarilla, Playa del Salado, Playa de la Cocina and Arco de los Caletones)

Engrossing, immersive La Graciosa

Apr 2022 • Solo

Visually stunning chilled island and a must see whilst holidaying in Lanzarote. A welcome day away from the resorts/Arrecife’s relative liveliness though the main village Caleta de Sabo fills with tourists from ferry/catamaran tours daily. Yet walk/cycle 2 mins outta here and you’re amongst virtually pristine rocky paths leading to either the beautiful, quiet beaches(Playa des Conchas is jawdropping!) dotted around the island or eventual steep paths leading to its several conic summits. Go independently via the Orzola ferry terminal so you can spend the necessary time to immerse and totally chill out, as with the tours there’s insufficient time to marvel at all it has to offer (and do) especially geographically.

Little Beautiful Island

Nov 2020

It is a little beautiful Island. It is very touristic, but due to some restrictions (especially building), it is still quiet and kept its authentic flair. The island has a beautiful landscape, beutiful and quiet beaches and two small villiges. More important is Caleta del Sebo, where you usually arrive with the ferry. There are some restaurants and shops (souvenir and food), a little church (most time closed) and a little museum.

Catamaran trip 5 stars from us

Oct 2021 • Couples

What a fantastic trip, we booked via excursions lanzarote . com. We booked the catamaran tour and we weren’t disappointed, very well organised, pick up from hotel, coach transfer to the ferry port, then onto the catamaran for a full day of sailing around this beautiful island. We were so glad we booked a boat trip rather than just getting the ferry over to the island, the island has very little on it and personally we were glad we were only there for 1 hour. The catamaran trip was fab, food and drinks were flowing all day, friendly staff. Lots of stops for swimming, snorkelling etc finished off with more or less the whole boat dancing away on deck, it was a fabulous day which we highly recommend.

Beautiful island!

Jul 2020 • Family

I generally do my homework before we make daytrips or do some sightseeing. Yet, I wasn’t really prepared well for this island.
We made a daytrip to La Graciosa with the ferryboat from Lanzarote. It’s a 30-min boat ride. We hit some large waves which were well navigated by the captain of the boat and made the ride somewhat exciting.
Once we stepped foot on the island we didn’t really know where to go. I had read great reviews and had expected all kinds of activities. We were at a small harbor and saw tourists on a small beach and a couple of restaurants.
We decided to walk around a bit and realized that the island doesn’t have paved roads. Caleta de Sebo is a small village and you can easily explore it by foot. It’s unique that the village just has dirt roads, but it didn’t have anything else to offer – we only found a bike rental store. This could be due to the Covid pandemic – many places in Lanzarote were closed – but we just didn’t see any other activities (shuttered, or not).
So we decided to walk to one end of the village to see if we were missing something. The village ended and we came upon a dune/beach area. Beyond that there was nothing.
We had just spent around €100 on ferry ride tickets and there wasn’t really anything to do.
We saw a safari Jeep for tours parked near the dunes, but due to the Covid pandamic it seemed that no tours were being offered. However, the island seemed to offer so much more than what we were seeing, so I decided to call the phone number on the Jeep.
We ended up getting a 1 1/2 hr tour of the island (€80 for 4 people) and it was FANTASTIC! The driver first took us to Playa de las Conchas. It was a stunning beach! I wish we could’ve spent the day there. Warm sand, a turquoise ocean…, it was perfect.
We then drove to large volcanic caves where the ocean meets the lava. It was impressive to see.
He then drove us via a tiny vacation village back to the harbor.

Many reviews give you the idea that you can easily walk or bike over the island. However, it is 5+ km from the harbor to Playa de las Conchas. In the summer heat I wouldn’t enjoy biking there over dirt roads, let alone walk that distance. We encountered a young woman at the beach who had biked there. She was exhausted and had called another tour company to come and pick her up. Unless you’re in great shape and are used to this climate, I wouldn’t recommend exploring the island that way.

If I had been better prepared, I would’ve purchased a boat tour of the island. We ended up spending quite a bit of cash that day – especially If you add in lunch. There are boat tours which would probably give you a better, more organized and relaxed feel for the island than the way we explored it.

So with that said, I would highly recommend visiting this island. It’s raw, it’s beautiful! But prepare your trip well.

Peaceful Island

Mar 2020 • Couples

Boat crushing takes about 30 mins, get there early as top deck get full quickly. Beaches are stunning but no facilities so be prepared. Limited choice of restaurants that get full quickly, but on the whole good especially the bakery. To get around the island you need a bike, however there is a beach within walking distance about 10 mins. I believe there are land rovers for hire, we only saw an old battered one.
