Isla de Lobos Surf, la mejor derecha de Fuerteventura

LA DERECHA DE LOBOS, EL TESORO DE LA ISLA DE FUERTEVENTURA

No hay una ola más larga en las islas Canarias. Es la gran joya de Fuerteventura, una derecha de calidad excelente, un verdadero parque de atracciones de aguas cristalinas y con tubos de primer nivel. Hablamos de la derecha de la isla Lobos, un spot muy versátil y divertido, enmarcado en un paisaje de película de aventuras. Las Canarias en su versión más cautivadora.  Puro hechizo insular.

La isla de Fuerteventura tiene dos grandes polos de atracción. Al sur, Costa Calma y Morro Jable; y en el norte, el Parque Natural de las Dunas de Corralejo, un espacio protegido de 2600 hectáreas donde las dunas infinitas del desierto acaban sumergidas en el mar. No hay otro lugar igual en las islas. El paisaje, en este parque natural, te atrapa, te cautiva. Si das la espalda al mar tienes la sensación de habitar la película de Lawrence de Arabia; si, por el contrario, das la cara al horizonte marino, tropiezas con un hipnotizante océano de aguas turquesas presidido por la majestuosa isla de Lobos. Allí, en ese islote que debe su nombre a las focas monje (conocidas como lobos marinos) que lo habitaban y ya no lo habitan, expulsadas por los pescadores locales, que veían sus capturas diezmadas por la voracidad del mamífero, rompe la ola estelar de Fuerteventura.

ISLA DE LOBOS SURF

No hay  una ola más larga en las Islas Canarias y tampoco en la Península. La ola de Lobos es una de la más extensas del planeta. Se trata de una derecha superlativa, un verdadero parque de atracciones de aguas cristalinas con tres secciones bien definidas, una de ellas bastante tubera; un spot de primer nivel, muy versátil y divertido.

CÓMO LLEGAR A LA ISLA DE LOBOS

Primero, Fuerteventura. En avión mejor que en barco.  A Fuerteventura se llega en vuelo directo desde varias ciudades de la Península Ibérica. Su aeropuerto se encuentra a seis kilómetros de la capital, Puerto del Rosario, y desde él hacia el norte lleva unos treinta minutos.

Segundo, Corralejo. El pueblo de Corralejo y el Parque Natural de las Dunas queda a menos de media hora de Puerto Rosario en coche.

Por último, Lobos. Al islote de Lobos se puede llegar en ferri o water-taxi desde el puerto de Corralejo. Nuestro consejo es pagar una de los water-taxi que salen los días de olas desde el puerto de Corralejo, ya que te dejará directamente en el pico.

LA MEJOR ÉPOCA PARA HACER SURF EN FUERTEVENTURA

Aunque puede decirse que la isla de Fuerteventura vive una eterna primavera, con temperaturas que oscilan entre los 23º y los 25º, hay que tener en cuenta que la incidencia del viento puede favorecer o no la práctica del surf. Por ello, la mejor época para surfear empieza en septiembre y se prolonga hasta finales de marzo. Eso sí, el equipo de Single Quiver ha estado en Fuerteventura en abril, en julio, en agosto, en noviembre, en diciembre… y el viaje y la ola de Lobos siempre nos han animado a repetir.

De todas formas, antes de tu viaje te recomendamos que eches un vistazo al surf forecast Isla de Lobos y busques el parte ideal para disfrutar de esta ola worldclass.

¿LLEVO TRAJE DE NEOPRENO PARA HACER SURF  EN LA ISLA DE LOBOS?

Estamos en las islas Canarias, cierto, pero para hacer surf es muy aconsejable utilizar traje de neopreno. De hecho, los isleños suelen embutirse en un traje 4/3 mm durante todo el año. Si eres de los que surfeas habitualmente en el Cantábrico, nuestra recomendación es un 3/2 mm o un 2/2 mm.

OTROS IMPRESCINDIBLES PARA UN VIAJE DE SURF A FUERTEVENTURA

El viento… El viento puede soplar sin descanso durante una semana entera, de modo que, si eres de los que, cuando viajas, sólo disfrutas en el agua,  tráete formas de entretenimiento para afrontar esos días en que Fuerteventura entera se niega a sonreírte: libros, tablet, ordenador portátil… Todo aquello que te distrae cuando no puedes surfear.

–Crema de sol

-Gafas para hacer snorkel

–Surfskate, en la Isla hay varios skateparks que merece la pena visitar. El bowl de Lajares «Bowl Lajares Skatepark», ideal para practicar surfskating y el skatepark municipal de Corralejo. Nosotros te recomendamos llevar un penny surfskate. Gracias a su ligereza y carácter todoterreno, te permitirá transportarlo fácilmente y disfrutar del skate y del surf los días sin olas.

–Candado para la llave del coche, si vas a dejar tus pertenencias de valor en el coche, no te olvides de un buen candado. Nosotros para viajes de surf, te recomendamos la bolsa estanca para llaves de coche Kguard. No ocupa nada de espacio, es ligera, práctica y segura.

–Porta tablas. Si vas alquilar un coche y tienes pensado viajar con tablas, te recomendamos que lleves un soft rack para transportar las tablas en el techo del vehículo. Las agencias de alquiler de coches de Fuerteventura no suelen disponer de ellas y resulta un accesorio imprescindible para poder moverte por la isla en busca de olas.

–Mochila estanca. Para meter el traje mojado, parafina, quillas, cremas… y pasar un largo día en una de las muchas calas de la isla.

-Visera o gorra para el sol: cuando el sol calienta, quema.  Protégete tanto en el agua, como fuera de ella.

-Bañadores, bikinis, bermudas… Y como ya se ha comentado anteriormente, traje de neopreno. Echa un vistazo a nuestro Outlet de Ropa Surfera. Bañadores, camisetas, chancletas y gorras Hurley al 50% de descuento.

Y siempre, siempre, máximo respeto a los locales. Porque, si bien es cierto que el número de surfistas en el agua nunca alcanza niveles insoportables, Lobos es un spot muy concurrido cuando está caramelo. Y aquí los locales no se andan con tonterías. Esto significa que lo que sólo te supondría una advertencia en otro lugar, en Lobos, como en otras rompientes de Fuerteventura, puede granjearte un buen puñetazo.

MÁS QUÉ SURF. QUÉ VER EN LA ISLA DE LOBOS

La isla de Lobos se encuentra tal y como la vio y describió Ignacio Aldecoa en su Cuaderno de Godo el siglo pasado: “La isla de Lobos tiene faros, arrecifes peligrosos, serrados, ensenadas en tecnicolor y un roque vigilante, llamado del Calafete”.

Con olas o sin olas, la visita vale la pena. Como ya se ha dicho, los trasbordadores salen del puerto de Corralejo y el trayecto apenas dura media hora. Una vez allí, hay que subir a la montaña de la Caldera, un antiguo volcán de 127 metros desde el que podrás ver una inolvidable panorámica del mismo islote y de las increíbles dunas del Parque Natural de Corralejo. Su playa de la Concha, también conocida como la Caleta, es otro oasis de mar y arena.

PADDLE SURF ISLA DE LOBOS FUERTEVENTURA

Con alrededor de 340 kilómetros de costa, la isla de Fuerte es un excelente lugar para realizar rutas entre volcanes, barrancos y playas. Recorrer sus playas en paddle surf y bañarse en sus aguas cristalinas es una actividad que no puede faltar en tu lista de cosas imprescindibles que hacer en Fuerteventura. QUÉ COMER EN FUERTEVENTURA, PISTAS GASTRONÓMICAS

La cocina majorera es una combinación de influencias peninsulares – andaluzas, principalmente – con ingredientes americanos – la patata, por ejemplo -, a las que se suma la presencia constante en la mesa del gofio, suculenta masa de harina de grano tostado que acompaña a una gran variedad de platos.

La exquisita vieja preparada a la espalda, el cabrito frito, las papas arrugadas, el mojo… son elementos ineludibles en cualquier carta. Y claro, no podemos olvidar los quesos, delicatessen majorera cuya variedad es casi infinita. Por último, hay que mencionar el vino, Fuerteventura es la cuna de los vinos canarios.

Hierro, on the island of Fuerteventura. — goldenbogdan on Scorum

Fuerteventura (Spanish for “Great Fortune”) is one of the islands of the Canary archipelago, whose coastal waters are considered the best place for surfing in the world. Here you can surf all year round, enjoying a very mild climate, with an average water temperature of 26-28 degrees Celsius.

The island is only a 4 hour flight from France, so this destination is a good compromise for many European surfers between proximity, reasonable price, and great surroundings. With a ticket price of less than 200 euros, you can take a plane in the morning – and plunge into the unforgettable waves of the ocean in the afternoon.

Geographic location.
The group of the Canary Islands, including Fuerteventura, is located in the Atlantic Ocean, one hundred kilometers from the northwestern coast of Africa:

Fuerteventura is located in the eastern part of the archipelago, consisting of seven large and six small islands:

Most of the best beaches for casual holidaymakers are in the southern part of the island, however, unlike simple beaches, most of the coolest surf spots are located in the northern part of Fuerteventura, in the Corralejo area, as well as Isla de los Lobos (we will come to this, on next map).
In the meantime, consider the deployment of ordinary beaches – they can also come in handy. Umbrellas mark the best simple beaches (for traditional swimming and sunbathing):

Separately, I give a map of the northern part of the island – an area called Corralejo. In blue circles, numbers from 1 to 7, the best surf spots in Fuerteventura are marked.
Here is a list of them (not in order of preference for one over the other, but simply in sequence along the coast):
1. Glass Beach.
2. Flag Beach.
3. Rocky Point.
4. Shooting Gallery.
5.Majanicho.
6. Hierro (the best!).
7. Cotillo.
+ There are also particularly powerful waves on the east coast of the small island of Los Lobos (on the right).

The seven best surf spots in Fuerteventura.

On the surf spot Hierro (Hierro) there are mainly two types of waves:
The first type. Right-handed waves – much shorter ones are formed, but with high-quality pipes.
These are waves whose crests break from left to right. Accordingly, the surfer needs to go down such a wave to the right (but, from the point of view of observers from the beach, it will look the other way around):

Second type. Left hand waves. Hierro has very fast, left-handed, medium length waves that are great for dribbling and jumping:

There are also peak waves, from which you can go down in any direction you wish, on the Hierro surf spot they are much less common on the right and left.
As mentioned at the beginning of the article, Fuerteventura is suitable for surfing all year round, and yet there are the most favorable months. The “juiciest” surfing season falls on the period from September to May (ie eight months a year).

A stay in Fuerteventura will cost approximately 700-800 euros for 2 weeks, including the cost of surf lessons (if you need them).
There is a surf school on the island, where lessons will take 4 hours every day.
