Tenerife returns to a life where every day is a holiday

December 19, 2021. Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Vesti Tourism.

On the streets of Tenerife these days you can meet parades of musicians and dancers – rehearsals of the most important event for the islanders and guests of Tenerife – the annual Carnival – have begun.

In 2022, the traditional Carnival in Tenerife will take place from February 23 to March 5, 2022. The theme of the Carnival is “Science Fiction”!

The registration of those who will take part in the dress contest, which will select the Carnival Queen, is in full swing. More information on the official website of the Tenerife Carnival at the link.

Miradores and the best Instagram points on the map of Tenerife

The island of Tenerife rises above sea level, and from almost anywhere on the island a breathtaking view opens up. There are many viewing platforms on the island, which are called miradors in Spanish. But in order to properly plan a trip and organize a trip that will leave the most vivid impressions, you should study the list of observation platforms in order to choose those that, taking into account the season and time of visit, will allow you to collect a collection of the most successful pictures for Instagram.

Teide is not only the highest point on the island, but in all of Spain, and the third largest volcano in the world. The road to the Teide is an amazing sight, but the most impressive view will open at the top of the funicular. It is important to remember that clouds that will be under your feet when you climb the peak of the volcano can prevent you from enjoying the views, so it is worth planning an ascent to Teide on a clear sunny day.

Halfway between Santa Cruz and Puerto de la Cruz, El Sauzal is a charming and quiet village with a magnificent view of the Acentejo rocky coastline and the Atlantic Ocean. You can see the exact location on the map. Next to the observation deck there is a cafe-bar with a terrace, so you can look at the scenery while enjoying a cup of coffee or dessert. Also, among other attractions of El Sauzal is the House of Honey and Wine, where the grape museum is located, as well as tastings of the best samples of these products on the island.

    Humboldt Viewpoint (Mirador de Humboldt)

The Humboldt Viewpoint offers breathtaking views of the La Orotava Valley with its endless banana plantations, as well as the municipalities of Puerto de la Cruz and Los Realejos. Here you can also take pictures with the monument to Alexander von Humboldt, a German naturalist, traveler and geographer, after whom the observation deck is named. You can see the exact location on the map.

    Dracaena Park (Parque del Drago)

The Millennium Dracaena is probably the most recognizable landmark of Icod de los Vinos . This plant is also called the “dragon tree” because the resin of this tree is a rich dark red color. In fact, the age of the tree in Icod de los Vinos is estimated at only 800 years, but it is considered one of the oldest and most important natural, cultural and historical symbols of the Canary Islands. Around the tree there is a park with small dracaena, cacti and milkweeds.

Los Gigantes Cliffs (Acantilados de los Gigantes)

The Los Gigantes Cliffs are part of the Anaga Natural Park, in some places they reach a height of 600 meters above sea level and look almost vertical even when viewed from below. The depth of the sea at the foot of the rocks reaches 30 meters, the bottom here is incredibly beautiful and varied, and the water is crystal clear. It attracts lovers of diving, snorkeling and kayaking. For impressive photos, you can go to the westernmost point of the island – Teno Lighthouse, to take photos with a view of the cliffs or, taking a kayak with you on a trip, take selfies passing by the majestic cliffs.

Masca mountain village (Caserío de Masca)

Masca mountain village is still far from civilization, electricity has appeared here quite recently, and the roads passing through the village are still unpaved. Surrounded by steep ridges, for many years the only means of communication with the outside world was the Guanche Road, connecting Masca with the nearest city of Santiago del Teide. It is thanks to this remoteness that the village has been preserved in its original form. Brickwork, wood, conceptual simplicity and complete harmony with the environment have made the village of Masca a real gem of the Rural de Teno.

    La Laguna Old Town

La Laguna was the first capital of Tenerife for 200 years and the first city in Spain not built as a fortress. But even now the city is considered the spiritual and cultural center of the island. The city center has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You can walk around it in just an hour, but thanks to the bright colorful buildings, the walk can take up to half a day.

Lercalo, Salazar and Nava Palaces, Adelantado or Concepción Square, Leal Theater deserve special attention. It’s always noisy and crowded here. And local bars and cafes offer the famous specialties fruta de tapas la laguna, which should certainly become part of the mandatory program.
