Tenerife receives awards, opens new hotels and prepares, prepares…

November 19, 2020. Tenerife. Vesti Tourism.

Travelers are still rewinding their Instagram feed, sorting through the baggage of accumulated adventures with longing and hope. While we can only dream of new impressions, bright colors and fresh emotions, the Tenerife Tourism Office has prepared for you an overview of the news of the island and its partners.

You can get up-to-date information on the current restrictions and the rules for entry and stay in the Canary Islands here.

In anticipation of the guests, the island is improving its infrastructure and striving to become even better than before. And this does not go unnoticed. Thus, the hotel Las Terrazas de Abama (Guia de Isora) received the World Travel Awards – this “Oscar” of the tourism industry went to him in the nomination “Best Resort in Spain”. Bahía del Duque (Adeje) has been awarded the British Airways Customer Excellence Award as one of the best hotels in the world, based on customer reviews of its location, service and facilities. In addition, on December 18, 2020, a new luxury hotel Royal River Luxury hotel 5 * will be opened in Adeje, consisting of 50 villas of various categories, which will become another decoration of the island.

From November 11 to 27, the island hosts the international online whale watching congress SeaU 2020, which is attended by representatives of more than 20 countries and leading experts from all over the world. At the same time, the Arona SOS Atlántico festival takes place in Arona. Festival de los Océanos, which aims to draw public attention to the problem of pollution in the Atlantic Ocean.

Connoisseurs of wildlife and professional athletes, desperate romantics and sophisticated gourmets, tireless travelers and adventurers, fans of outdoor activities and lovers of relaxing on the beach, adults and children: in Tenerife everyone will find exactly the vacation that he has been waiting for. The main advantage of the direction is the absence of a low season. At any time of the year in Tenerife you can enjoy the ocean and the sun, visit theme parks, stroll through historical cities or take the funicular to the Teide.

Route “One day in Tenerife”. In order to correctly allocate your time, to see as much as possible, but at the same time not to feel that you are overcoming a marathon race, it is better to plan your trip in advance. The One Day Tenerife route includes only a few sights, but still allows you to see the variety of the island. Teide National Park is the heart of the island. Anaga Biosphere Reserve, the very north of Tenerife, where laurel forests have been preserved. And also, two beautiful cities: La Laguna – the first capital of the island, a UNESCO heritage site and the city of Candelaria, a place of pilgrimage for the inhabitants of the island. It was here that at the end of the 14th century, a hundred years before the conquest of Tenerife, on the coast of the Guimar Valley, the Guanches discovered a Gothic statue of the Virgin of Candelaria. They gave her the name Chaxiraksi and began to worship the image. Now every year on August 15, the appearance of the Virgin to the people is celebrated. On this day, pilgrims from all over the islands come here.

“Island of Eternal Spring” – this is the grandeur of the vast Atlantic and the serenity of mountain valleys, secluded beaches and mysterious forest paths, traditional Canarian cuisine and rich historical heritage, the comfort of home wineries and the charm of winding streets, black volcanic sand and emerald green golf courses, sheer cliffs and the horizon line stretching into the distance and, of course, the endless starry sky above the Teide – the main peak of Spain. This island is able to forever change your idea of a vacation, which, we believe, is just around the corner. And here you will find a selection of 10 places and excursions in Tenerife that you must visit. Among them there are not only the most famous places, so the recommendations will be of interest to those who have already been to the island. For example, the Dracaena Park, in the city of Icod de los Vinos, the impressive building of the Auditorio de Tenerife in the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, or the sheer cliffs of Los Gigantes.

Pent-up demand in Tenerife intensified immediately after the holidays.

Tourist flow from Russia to the Spanish island of Tenerife shows a noticeable increase since last summer. The Tenerife Tourism Office in Russia received the latest data for November 2018: almost 6 thousand Russians visited the island, which is 33% more than in the same month of 2017. Maria Cheplya, a representative of the office, said this at a business breakfast organized by Vremya-tour.

According to her, the growth is due, among other things, to an increase in the volume of direct flights: since the end of October, Aeroflot has been flying to Tenerife South Airport daily. Prior to this, the carrier operated five flights a week. “Most likely, the airline will extend this frequency to the summer schedule. But S7 left the previous schedule – two flights a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays,” Ms. Ceplya specified.

Ms. Cheplya told Vremya-Tour travel agents that over the past few years the island’s infrastructure has been significantly expanded and tourist areas have been improved. A total of €32 million was invested in 121 projects to improve public space. 21.5 thousand rooms were also updated and almost 9 thousand were put into operation. “And remind your customers that there are six Michelin-starred restaurants on the island,” she said.

Diana Perlova, Sales Representative of the Bahia del Duque Hotel in Russia, continued the presentation. The hotel receives about 6-7 thousand Russian guests a year. “Now the optimal air communication between Moscow and Tenerife has been established, thanks to which the flow is growing. The New Year holidays have also increased,” says Ms. Perlova. She is sure that more people would come from Russia, but our fellow citizens, unfortunately, have not learned how to book in advance, as Europeans do. For example, Bahia del Duque villas are in great demand, and not only among Russian tourists. “With just 40 villas, this is our popular luxury product. On high dates – New Year, Easter, August – you may encounter a waiting list. We have to refuse VIP clients,” said Diana Perlova.

The hotel has 400 rooms, which are being renovated in stages. In the summer, a new area, Casas Ducales, was opened with its own territory and a spa center.

Last year, the coastline was cleared in the southern part of the island, and sand brought from Africa gave the beaches a beautiful golden hue. Many Tenerife beaches receive the Blue Flag every year.

Olga Sidorova, Vremya-tour’s travel product promotion director, told RATA-news that this is not the first time the operator has presented Tenerife: “We love this destination, just like our clients. Now the high season is in full swing on the island, Bahia del Duque is one of our main partners, we have a direct contract with good rates.”

Every year the company sends up to 3 thousand tourists to Tenerife. According to Ms. Sidorova, on New Year’s Eve there was a slight decrease in volume, which is typical, however, for almost all areas. There was a lull in December, but immediately after the holidays there was a noticeable revival in sales. “Perhaps the tourists who have postponed their plans for Tenerife at the end of the year have become more active. Now not only individual requests are being received, but also group ones – corporates, companies, schools are applying. We have already gathered several groups, including under incentive tours. A year ago, such activity was not observed, but December 2017 was much more cheerful,” she said.

According to Olga Sidorova, a slight decline in organized tourism may be due to an increase in the number of independent travelers, as well as a more expensive flight compared to mainland Spain.
