In 2022, the purchase of local housing by foreigners accounted for 52% of all transactions. This is evidenced by the data of the General Council of Notaries and the National Statistical Institute (INE), collected in a report published on the Spanish TV channel Antena 3.

Who buys? The portrait of a typical real estate buyer in the Canary Islands has changed. Where once it was retirees, now it is young families who see an opportunity to invest in a self-contained community with a year-round pleasant climate.

Numbers. Between July and September 2022 alone, property sales in the Canary Islands to foreigners living in Spain totaled 1,132 units, up 43.2% from the third quarter of 2021 (790). Meanwhile, non-residents of Spain completed 1,676 transactions compared to 1,098 in the third quarter of 2021, representing an increase of 52.6%.
