Loro Parque

This zoo is well-managed and organized, with a fantastic collection of well cared for animals and flora. The top highlight of the park was once the parrots (loro in Spanish) but today a family of killer whales has become the children´s favorite.

You can find all details and offers to visit Loro Parque in didicated article.

Lago Martiánez

The beaches in Puerto de la Cruz are not amongst the best on the island and they are rather exposed to the sea, which complicates swimming. This explains the construction of the Lago Martiánez, one of the top creations of renowned architect, and artist Cesar Manrique. The Lago is an artificial lake which consists of five islands and different salt-water pools along with lush gardens. This is a good place to enjoy swimming in Puerto de la cruz.

Jardín botánico

The botanical gardens in Puerto de la Cruz are a must-visit for gardeners. Founded in 1788 it was meant to serve as a base to study plants from the Americas as well as Asian plantlife (we could imagine connections with the botanical gardens in Madrid and its research efforts)  Today it occupies more than 2 hectares and it showcases an interesting collection of both native plants and flowers as well as imported. The botanical gardens are located in the southern part of Puerto de la Cruz.

Churches

The Parish church de Nuestra Señora de la Peña de Francia is the most imporant church in Puerto de la Cruz. The church contains an interesting barqoeu high altar.
The fishing chapel of San Telmo. Built-in 1629 and restored in 1968 it holds a statue of Saint Pedro Gonzalez Telmo, the saint of fishermen. The statue is a copy of the original one, destroyed in a fire in 1788.

A walk in the old district of Puerto de la Cruz

This is the part that shows the essence of what Puerto de la Cruz used to be prior to the arrival of tourism. The docks brought the first revolution to El Puerto with the trade of bananas and wines from the island. The small beach of the dock, the sculpture of the fisherwoman. There are still colorful houses in the streets Mequinez and Calle el Lomo. You may want to continue

Puerto De La Cruz | Travel agency Primavera Tours

The northern capital of Tenerife beautiful Puerto de la Cruz . The atmosphere of the city draws you into the fairy tale of Canarian everyday life. After all, it is not tourists who dominate here, but the local population. And you will agree that this is a colorist. There are more office workers on the streets than vacationers in shorts with beach umbrellas. The city is strikingly different from the southern resorts, not only in climate, but also in historical richness. If the southern resorts were built for tourists, then Puerto de la Cruz is a historical and cultural center. The first city on the island was founded in the 17th century AD. as a port of the Orotava valley. Remaining in secondary places, the settlement did not develop much, so Puerto de la Orotava (the original name of the town) would have remained a fishing village, but … It would be luck and misfortune to help – the eruption of the Teide volcano destroyed the main port of the island – Garachico in 1706. So the small fishing village of Puerto de la Cruz became a strategically important object. The successful situation was successfully used by the Europeans. The nobility did not like to freeze, and the island of eternal spring is a pleasant substitute for snowy Albion. And from the middle of the 18th century, the intelligentsia rushed here. They loved to live beautifully, and they had money, thanks to which the city began to fill up with beautiful buildings, which are now proudly called the historical center of Puerto de la Cruz. nine0006

Walks along the promenade and the sea air had a positive effect on health, and local wines perfectly cheered up.
Tenerife has become a favorite holiday destination and successfully holds this position today.
True, the picture changed with the advent of World War II, there were more tourists, but their funds were not so great.
And the new time dictated new conditions, people wanted more active recreation. In the early 70s, officials made a strategic decision to develop the sunny south. The climate is milder, and the ocean is calmer. Until the 80s, north and south competed in the palm – the south won, but Puerto de la Cruz did not lose. Many Europeans buy apartments here, which are rented almost all the time. The good news is that apartments are a more profitable way of living, this is especially noticeable in Tenerife. Many tourists choose the city for their holidays, the main square of Plaza del Charco, which is packed with onlookers with cameras. nine0006

Yes, and there is something to see in the north:
  • Be sure to admire nature, but here it is amazing. The rains that generously irrigate this part of the island favorably affect the local flora. We recommend taking a walk in the botanical garden, which was built in honor of the Spanish king in the 18th century.
  • Cafes, restaurants, bars – the food is breathtakingly delicious. Just a guide or a map will help you find the best restaurants. The more beautiful the pearl, the more difficult it is to get, the expression is ideal for restaurants. Plus live music that will accompany the use of delicious dishes. Which by the way will improve digestion, so you are welcome. nine0018
  • Embankment – not long ago noble ladies walked along it in lace gloves and with umbrellas, arm in arm with noble gentlemen in frock coats and top hats.

    Thank God, there is no need to adhere to such a ceremony now, but we can feel involved. Talk about secular topics and enjoy the brackish air … what could be better?

  • Loro Park – trained killer whales who will show the wonders of balancing act. Funny penguins that boldly stomp behind the trainer. Visitors from neighboring islands come to see this miracle. So missing the show would be a huge sacrilege. nine0018
  • Playa Martianez and Playa Jardin are the two beaches of the resort. Playa Martianez is a beach for the most desperate daredevils and heroes, because swimming here requires great physical and spiritual preparation. Playa Jardin is a man-made beach with black, volcanic sand. Not far from the beach there is a wonderful garden, the vegetation of which will pleasantly please the eye with a variety of greenery.
    If you want to swim, but the ocean does not inspire you, Puerto de la Cruz has found the solution to your problem.
  • This is a wonderful pool complex Lago Martianez. Huge pools that are connected by islands of volcanic lava. The sight is amazing and now the complex is included in the list of attractions of the island.
    nine0018

  • Shopping – trendy brands of clothing, cosmetics and jewelry flooded the Canary Islands. It should be noted that the system of discounts is as developed as in Europe, which pleasantly pleases the Slavic person.

Distance from Puerto de la Cruz to:

  • Santa Cruz de Tenerife – 30 km;
  • Playa de las Americas – 110 km;
  • South Airport – 95 km;
  • North Airport – 25 km.

Puerto de la Cruz

This town, located in the north of Tenerife, is one of the places you can stay if you want to visit the island, since many attractions are close to it. It was originally a small fishing village. nine0005 and then the port, which improved the economy and later became the first tourist destination on the island. Currently, buses can be taken from this city to visit different points of the island, from the north to Teide. That’s why it can be the perfect place to get around the island, and that it can also be visited in just one day to see its main sites.

Botanical Garden

One of the places where visitors most enjoy when they go to Puerto de la Cruz is undoubtedly the beautiful botanical garden. nine0005 . This incredible garden was created in 1788 to grow tropical species in Spain thanks to the climate of Tenerife. It has a schedule from 9.00:00 am to 18.00 pm and you can enter by paying an inexpensive entrance. It occupies two hectares and we will feel transported to a tropical place, as in this acclimatization garden we will be able to see from palm trees to tropical trees.

Yellow house

Today this house is a ruined building, but it was very important for the history of the island. In this building you are founded the first primatological research center from Spain, promoted by the Prussian Academy of Sciences in Berlin and directed by the Gestalt psychologist Köhler. Currently, although it was declared an object of cultural interest many years ago, it is endangered due to poor preservation. But it is always nice to be able to observe the history of our country.

Loro Parque

This is one of the places that the whole family usually visits. It’s about large open zoo where there are also private tropical plants. But, undoubtedly, there is something that attracts thousands of visitors – this is a show with dolphins and killer whales. In addition to these animals, you can see many others, such as flamingos, gorillas, jaguars, sloths, anteaters or red pandas. They have several areas, including an aquarium, a dolphinarium, an area with killer whales, and another one with penguins. This is one of the places where you can spend more time, so if we want to enjoy it, it is better to book an afternoon or morning. nine0006

Hermitage of San Amaro

This hermitage, is located in the La Paz area – the oldest in the city of . It dates from the XNUMXth century and at that time was a Guanche area, although today it is already a central place, surrounded by new and tourist buildings. This is a small hermitage closely related to the city’s ancient history, so it’s worth visiting as it doesn’t take long to visit. Aboriginal archaeological sites have been discovered on the rocks nearby, pointing to the location of an important necropolis. nine0006

La Paz Viewpoint

If we want to have a beautiful view of the Atlantic Ocean we must go to Mirador de la Paz. From here you have a great view of the sea to take some pictures, as well as the Martianes beach and the lake complex in the background. This is one of the most famous balconies in the city, which offers a great view of the area from above, so we can stop here to take pictures and relax.
