When I was 16 years old, I listened to Shostakovich’s symphony with a text by Yevtushenko. There was a translation
English and the original in Russian, but written in Latin letters. I am nothing
I understood, of course, but I was surprised that there were strange prepositions like “in” – in Spanish one cannot even imagine such a preposition, because we have more vowels than consonants. There were still words that I could understand, but with
strange endings, such as “Egypt”. I found the academy
where they taught Russian. Then he continued to learn the language at the institute, where he was
exchange program with MSLU, and went to Moscow for six months. Staying in the Russian capital after this program turned out to be
easier than I thought: just knocked on the doors of universities and offered myself a place
Spanish teachers. They took me to RSUH.

In Moscow, I was first of all impressed by the space — here
very wide streets. I like how the houses are arranged: a modern skyscraper
can coexist with an ancient church and a residential building of the 20th century. In the Canaries, everything is too calm, but here, on the contrary, everything is very fast. I like rush hour on the subway, it’s
the feeling of a sea of ​​faces, when you feel like a molecule, you are someone – and you
nobody. In the Canary Islands, you meet friends every day, and some of them even have to
avoid, here this risk is minimized. We don’t have snow, so for me it was yes and
remains exotic – every time I rejoice like a fool. Only in the Canary Islands it is colder in winter: there is high humidity, it penetrates to the bone, and in Moscow the cold is different.

During my first year in Russia, I got a funny part-time job. One friend from
The Russian State University for the Humanities said that they need a native speaker of Spanish who knows Russian. I went to the office where I
immediately taken aback that the work will be associated with sex. I tensed up. I was reassured by explaining that it was about translating a sexual phrasebook. The publication was on the shelves.

wild atmosphere. Now I often host parties at home. In Spain, it’s obligatory to hang out on the street – in Moscow they usually have fun indoors, because with your weather you can’t sit on the pavement. But hospitality is our common feature. More similar
some habits, such as getting together and drinking wine for a long time. In Russia and Spain we like to talk, after dinner
no one is gone for hours. Like in a movie
“Autumn Marathon”, there is a scene where a neighbor wants to drink vodka with the hero and the professor, he agrees, knocks over a stack and immediately rushes.
Then the neighbor takes him by the hand and says: “Won’t you talk?” Significant differences in humor: we in Spain love black humor, and here I lack Spanish jokes, let’s say, about some substances. Well, yes, shit. They don’t tell jokes about shit in Russia, but in Spain they love it very much.

I like the Miussky Park next to the Russian State Humanitarian University, I like VDNH, Sokolniki Park, shops around the Vykhino station – in the supermarket
there are good vegetables. The market on Rokossovsky Boulevard – there is an awesome
Adyghe cheese and good fish. And when I went to the supermarket for the first time in Russia, I ended up in Azbuka Vkusa and could only buy toilet paper and waffles there. Everything was very expensive, I was shocked, then I realized that you just need to be able to search. I love walking around Moscow, even in winter. Sit down and read
bars. Walk without a route, get lost in the city. I don’t like that they removed everything
tents, they were useful. For example, on Novoslobodskaya one could buy
magazines, flowers, and now
I just don’t know where to make a copy of the key. Where to buy an umbrella now? In the Big
shop? I want to buy
pillow – where to get it? To IKEA to go? And shops with
unnecessary things – full! For example, where they sell porcelain.

I live in a hostel on Novoslobodskaya. I have my own room
very small: me and 200 cockroaches. Moscow is a romantic city. In the north, on the same Rokossovsky Boulevard, there are five-story Khrushchev buildings: if you live
where the buildings are taller than the trees, you can feel the city, so I like the Khrushchevs.

In Spain, many issues are not resolved as easily as in
Moscow. At the conservatory, for example, I immediately met the composer Vladimir Tarnopolsky, even though I spoke little then
in Russian. Once he asked about a book that he could not buy anywhere, but me
immediately dragged to its author. I was shocked. Here is another example – a German woman wrote a work about Prokofiev’s operas, which are little known in Germany. Here, in Moscow, she could always get scores, ask anything. And once a German music historian came to the conservatory, and she did not want to meet her. In Europe, they often say “it’s impossible” – here this does not exist. In Spain, there are no analogues of your site “Public Services” – this is a good thing. We also have very few notaries, usually only one for the whole city.

I know that foreigners constantly complain about the bureaucracy in
Russia. I stopped blaspheming bureaucrats when I found out how many different papers Russian citizens need to travel abroad. to me
it seems to be unfair. Me
Russian services are perceived simply as a stranger, a private person, and Russians in foreign embassies are treated almost like criminals. I don’t like to talk about politics – this is not my country, I
I don’t understand here. But the intellectuals who always scold Russia are annoying. Still me
