Kirovskaya, in the east – with the republics of Mari El and Chuvashia, in the south – with the Republic of Mordovia, in the southwest – with the Ryazan region, in the west – with the Vladimir and Ivanovo regions. The administrative center is Nizhny Novgorod. The Nizhny Novgorod region is elongated in the meridional direction, the length from north to south is about 400 km, and from west to east about 300 km. The Volga River divides the region into the low-lying Left Bank and the elevated Right Bank. nine0011
The Nizhny Novgorod region is located in the temperate continental climate zone. The main differences in climate are manifested along the north-south line, between the Trans-Volga and the Right Bank.
Winter in the Nizhny Novgorod region lasts from the beginning of November to the end of March. The weather in winter is moderately cold. The average temperature in November is -4 degrees, and in January -12 degrees. The absolute minimum is -48 degrees. A stable snow cover is formed by November 15-20 in the Trans-Volga region, and by November 20-25 in the south of the region. The height of the snow cover is about 50 cm, and in the forest zone it is about 80 cm. In winter, about 200 mm of precipitation falls in the Nizhny Novgorod region. Spring in the Nizhny Novgorod region comes quickly, the weather improves, the temperature during April rises by 10 degrees. The snow cover usually disappears before April 15 in the south, and until April 20 in the north. The amount of precipitation in spring is 90 mm. The average wind speed is 3-4 m/s.
Summer in the Nizhny Novgorod region begins at the end of May in the Right Bank and at the beginning of June in the Trans-Volga region. The weather in summer is moderately warm. July is the warmest month of the year. The average July temperature varies from +18 in the north to +20 in the south of the region. At the same time, the maximum daytime temperatures are +27..+32 degrees, but an increase to 39 is possibledegrees. The amount of precipitation for the summer is 190 mm. The average wind speed is 2-4 m/s.
Autumn weather in the Nizhny Novgorod region begins at the end of August in the north and from the beginning of September in the south. In this case, the average temperature in September is +11 degrees, and by November it drops to -4 degrees. The number of cloudy days increases sharply: from 1-2 per month in summer, up to October 15 and November. In general, up to 130 mm of precipitation falls during the autumn season. The average wind speed is 3-4 m/s.
During the year, 600-650 mm of precipitation falls in the Trans-Volga region, and 500-550 mm in the right bank. From September to May, south and southwest winds prevail, and from June to August – northwest.
