Bonaire Windsurf Place is the only locally owned and operated windsurf station on the windward side of the island known as Sorobon, at Lac Bay. The water is shallow and warm, with steady tradewinds, and a beautiful beach–perfect conditions for catching some wind in your sails and claiming the freedom of the water in a sheltered and safe environment. STARBOARD

Svein started windsurfing in 1978 and won the Mistral Worlds in 1983. He was a gold medalist candidate for the 1984 Olympics and spent 10 years on the PWA pro circuit. In 1991 he became the first sailor to win all disciplines in the IFCA Production-Board Class Worlds. Most Starboard master boards are tested by Svein before they get verified for production. Svein is the founder and sole owner of the brand since 1994 and is still involved in overseeing every step of the Starboard concept from shaping to shipping. www.starboard.com

There are two Bonaire windsurfing centers located adjacent to each other on Lac Bay. Bonaire Windsurf Place and Jibe City both offer windsurfers a world- class vacation experience on Bonaire.

Bonaire Windsurf Place

“The Place”, is owned and operated by Bonaireans Elvis Martinus and Patoen Saragoza and their partner Roger Jurriens of Aruba. Their large facility with its raised, covered porch looking out over Lac Bay is well organized and features the best state-of-the-art equipment available.

The gear is all rigged and ready and the staff helps their clients with their board selection, sail changes and lessons with a personalized “native touch”. Boards from Starboard and RRD are matched with sails from Hot Sails Maui. For a list of equipment, click here.

The driftwood and bamboo Wind & Surf Beach Bar offers drinks, snacks and lunch items each day, along with their famous weekly BBQ, live music and Happy Hour video sessions. Their surf shop keeps the basics you’ll need for your time on the water and a souvenir to take home.

Bonaire Windsurf Place and their instructors help clients master any skill. They offer a variety of lesson plans and are particularly adept with helping children and beginners learn the sport. Steeped in knowledge of the island and its culture, the folks at “The Place” will make your Bonaire windsurfing experience unforgettable. Stand up paddleboards and kayaks are also available for rent.

Jibe City Bonaire

Jibe City started out at Sorobon Beach back in 1988. Under the new ownership of Robert and Monique van Berkel and manager Gert Jan and his enthusiastic staff, Jibe City offers windsurfing guests and their companions a first class windsurfing vacation with a laid back island scene that’s fun for everyone.

Jibe City maintains a large, up-to-date selection of equipment and is an official JP-Australia board center with sails from Neil Pryde, MauiSails and Severne. They also carry boards from Fanatic as well as SUPs for rent — insuring top quality gear for those seeking the fun, friendly and funky confines of their beachfront location. For instruction, ABK Sports at Jibe City provides a professional and relaxed approach aimed at getting you on gear best suited to your ability — and helping you sail better. They offer a full range of lesson plans, packages and clinics to help you learn and improve any skill.

When you aren’t on the water you can kick back in a beach chair, relax at a table on the expansive shaded decks or hook in at the Hang-Out Beach Bar, serving drinks, snacks and lunch at Bonaire’s most unique watering hole. The newly expanded surf shop has a full line of accessories, clothes and souvenirs. Kayaks and snorkel sets can also be rented at Jibe City.

BEST TIME FOR WINDSURFING IN UAE

The period from October to May in the UAE is considered the most favorable time for surfers. It is at this time that the shores of the Persian and Oman Gulfs are at the mercy of the winds, and it is here that strong waves suitable for windsurfing come up.

WINDSURFING IN SHARM EL SHEIKH

In the Gulf of Thailand, the most favorable time for this type of holiday comes in mid-February and ends in April. As for the Andaman coast, here the season starts in September and ends in December.

But recognized as the world’s best windsurfing destinations, they deserve to be explored. Traveling with friends or family, staying in luxury resorts or camping, doing tricks in the air or speed driving – it’s all good to visit these legendary places.

Bonaire Island is great for windsurfing. Crystal clear waters, steady winds, white sands and incredible locations make you want to stay here forever. A windsurfer should visit this Caribbean paradise at least once in a lifetime.

For many, Maui is the mecca of windsurfing. Despite the sharks, this is one of the best wave spots for extreme weather windsurfers.

Columbia River Gorge is a wide water arena where young and advanced windsurfers can share their experience all year round.

Tarifa is the capital of European windsurfing. There are only a few days without wind near Cadiz, in the south of Spain. The spot is packed with windsurfers, kitesurfers and even surfers.

Fuerteventura, in the Canary Islands, is another windsurfer’s paradise surrounded by incredibly dry surroundings.

In Greece, Karpathos is an excellent choice. Good strong winds were to many tastes and spawned an abundance of shops and windsurfing schools. The food is excellent and nightlife lovers will feel comfortable there too.

Sun and breeze daily at Guinchu Beach, the windiest surf spot in Portugal. The sand on the beach is wide and beautiful. You can go speed riding or wave and enjoy the hospitality and quality of food in this country.
