Recreational opportunities of the Canary Islands / Travel.Ru / Countries and regions
The Canary Islands are one of the 17 autonomous regions of Spain with the main city of Las Palmas on the island of Gran Canaria. This is one of the largest and most popular world tourist centers. The Canarian archipelago consists of seven large and several smaller islands of volcanic origin with powerful geological formations and unique vegetation, with some species found only in this area.
The tourist season in the Canaries lasts almost throughout the year. Magnificent climate, beautiful beaches, modern hotels and a variety of entertainment make this “Pearl of Spain” especially attractive. The airport of Gran Canaria alone receives more than two million tourists annually, and this despite the fact that 6 of the 7 islands have their own airports.
Recreation in the Canary Islands is offered by almost half of the operating travel companies in Novosibirsk.
The Canary Islands – El Yedro, Palma, Gomera, Tenerife, Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanserote – are located southwest of the coast of the Iberian Peninsula and 100 km (Fuerteventura) from the coast of Africa, at the latitude of Morocco and Western Sahara. About 1.5 million people live on the islands. Spanish is considered the state language, but employees of hotels and shops know English well.
Tenerife
The largest island of the Canary archipelago. The main city is Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The island is located just above the northern tropic, not far from the western coast of Africa. The area of the island is approximately 2000 sq. km. Here is the extinct volcano Teide (the highest point in Spain), whose peak is at an altitude of 3718 m above sea level. The island has the shape of a triangle and strikes with a variety of landscapes: high cliffs with steep slopes are replaced by green subtropical thickets, desert volcanic zones – by forests. The geographical position of Tenerife, as well as the impact of some favorable climatic factors, contribute to maintaining high air temperatures all year round. In winter it is not cold here, and in summer it is never stuffy and too hot. The thermometer does not fall below +200C and does not rise above +250C. However, the main natural feature of Tenerife can be called the special microclimate of the island, for which tourists and residents of the island thank the relief and trade winds that constantly caress the coast of Tenerife – in winter you can swim in the ocean, and then, climbing the slope of the volcano, tinker in the snow.
In Tenerife, you can practice any kind of water sports at any time of the year. Sports marinas that adorn the curves of the coast are overflowing with yachts and boats. Diving enthusiasts discover the treasures of fauna and flora in the depths of the ocean. You can also admire the beauty of the underwater world on board a special vessel with a transparent bottom. Numerous old sailboats offer tourists excursions along the coast and to neighboring islands. In addition to the ocean, there is the Cordillera de Anaga mountain range, the real ridge of the island, on the crest of which laurisilva blooms – a relic of prehistoric flora. There are also deep chasms here, such as the Hell’s Chasm, beaches with black sand in the north and gray in the south, palm trees, subtropical valleys, pine forests and, finally, Las Canaras National Park – a huge volcanic crater, in the center of which a volcano rises Teide, the terrifying god of the Guanches, the prehistoric inhabitants of Tenerife. In addition, there are still a lot of attractions on the island: this is Loro Park – a parrot park (the island’s most famous park, here you can admire rare animals and birds, see dolphin and fur seal shows, the largest collection of parrots and the largest aquarium in Europe with a glass grotto) , the medieval castle of San Miguel and much more.
Gomera
Gomera is one of the smaller, least known and ecologically clean islands of the Canary archipelago. Located 25 km southwest of Tenerife. The length of the island is 22 km, width – 25. The population is 18 thousand people. The main city is San Sebastian (7 thousand people). Gomera is the only one of the islands that does not have an airport due to the mountainous terrain. Tourists are brought to the island by hydrofoils and a ferry from Tenerife. Homer has a mild climate. The average daily temperature in January is +200С, in July +260С.
Average monthly temperature, °С
air water
winter + 20 + 18
spring + 22 + 19
summer + 26 + 23
autumn + 24 + 21
The greatest treasure of the island is the subtropical forest, declared a national park.
Lancerote
Lanserote Island is located in the northeast of the Canary archipelago. It is a continuous series of volcanic craters, lava valleys covered with ash and ash, palm groves and white sand beaches. The area of the island is 840 sq. km. The main city is Arrecife (34 thousand people).
The average temperature in January is +20 C, in July – +25 C. The main attraction is Timanfaya National Park (Fire Mountain), whose landscape resembles the moon: here, in a relatively small area (50 sq. km), there are more than 300 extinct volcanoes. Very interesting are the caves of Las Verdes and Jameos del Agua, which are part of a multi-kilometer tunnel formed by lava flowing from active volcanoes into the waters of the ocean. Not far from the coast is the sandy island of Graceosa, a beautiful view of which opens from the Mirador del Rio observation deck, set on an eight-hundred-meter cliff that breaks into the ocean. There are great hotels in Lanzarote: Media Salinas**** (Costa Teguise), Riu Paradise**** (Puerto del Carmen) or Timonfaya Palace*** (Playa Blanca).
Fuerteventura
This is the second largest and longest island of the archipelago – the distance between the northernmost and southernmost cities is 100 km. The area of Fuerteventura together with Lobos Island is 1660 sq. km. Here all year round stable temperature and humidity, plenty of sun. The average annual air temperature is + 19-200C, the water temperature near the coast is + 17-230C. The main city of Fuerteventura is Puerto del Rosario, with a population of 17 thousand people. Unlike the continents, whose flora and fauna have undergone significant changes due to climate change, the Canaries have retained many species that have disappeared on other continents.
Fuerteventura in this sense can be called a natural museum, with live exhibits of the Tertiary geological period. Many areas of the island have been declared national reserves. The dunes of Carralejo attract the largest number of tourists. The winds in this area blow at a constant speed and create ideal conditions for windsurfing and flying kites, which are so popular here.
The most popular hotels are: Tres Islas*****, Duna Park****, Apartments Las Fuentes***, Oliva Beach***.
Gran Canaria
Gran Canaria is located in the center of the Canary archipelago. The surface of the island is 1532 sq. km. The length of the coast is 236 km. Gran Canaria is the main island of the archipelago. The main city of the Canary Islands, Las Palmas, is located here (the city was founded in 1748, the population is 500 thousand people). Gran Canaria has all the hallmarks of an entire continent, from snow-capped mountain peaks to sultry sandy beaches for which the island is so famous. The south of the island enjoys the greatest attention of tourists, where the famous beaches of Maspalamos are located with huge sand dunes with a total area of 250 hectares.
The center of resort life is Playa del Ingles, where the main number of shopping centers, hotels, restaurants, and a water park with various attractions are concentrated.
The average annual air temperature on the island is +22 C.
Undoubtedly, the importance of the Canary Islands for educational tourism is great. Known since the times of the ancient world, and belonging to Spain since the 15th century, the Canaries have concentrated on their territory a large number of medieval monuments. However, the priority type of tourism here is the so-called “beach vacation”: magnificent natural conditions take all architectural and historical monuments into the background. Located opposite the shores of Western Sahara, the Canary archipelago is known throughout the world as a zone of mild and temperate climate. The swimming season continues here all year round.
There are hotels of any class in the Canary Islands. The international airports of the archipelago connect it with any part of the globe. On sea lines there is a constant communication with the continents. There is a ferry service with daily departures from the ports that connects all the islands of the Canary archipelago.

History of the breed
A native breed of the Canary Islands, especially popular in Tenerife and Gran Canaria. Despite the fact that Great Danes have inhabited the islands for hundreds of years, until 1989 there was no official existence of such a breed.
This year, the RSCE (Real Sociedad Canina de Espana) officially recognized the breed. But even today it is not recognized by many cynological organizations.
It is believed that the Great Danes of the Canary Islands appeared from the crossing of various European breeds (mastiffs and bulldogs) with the native breed of mahorero. Mahorero inhabit the island of Fuerteventura in the Canary archipelago and are a rare and little-studied breed.
The peculiarity of the breed is the black or brindle color (which they gave to the Canaries), incredulity and fearlessness.
When Europeans arrived on the island, they appreciated the endurance and unpretentiousness of these dogs and began to cross them with European dogs.
The breed from this cross came to be known as the Presa Canario. The word Presa can be translated as grab, hold, that is, the name of the breed reflects its purpose.
These dogs served farmers as livestock, guard and even fighting dogs, as dog fighting was banned on the islands only in 1940. After this ban, the popularity of the breed began to decline.
Fortunately, she still has fans who keep dogs and achieve breed recognition at 1989 year. The popularity of the breed came after an article published in Dog World Magazine by American anthropologist Carl Semencic. In addition, the author of the article published a book about rare breeds of dogs.
Description
Large dog with muscular and strong body. Males at the withers reach 58-66 cm, weight from 45 to 65 kg. Females at the withers from 56 to 64 cm, weigh from 39 to 55 kg.
The head is massive, broad, square, brachycephalic type. The correct form of the head is part of the breed standard and a hallmark of its best representatives.
Traditionally, the ears are cropped in order to reduce the number of vulnerabilities in dogs and to give it a more severe expression.
In this case, the ears are straight, but in many countries it is forbidden to crop the ears. In this case, the shape of the ears is hanging, in the form of a rose.
The upper lip hangs down when viewed from the front, the shape of the upper and lower lip forms an inverted V. The inside of the lip is dark in color.
Character
If you read the breed standard, you can come to the conclusion that the Dogo Canario is a universal breed. They are able to perform several functions: to be a guard, watchman, companion.
It’s true, dogo canarios are perfect defenders. Even the most daring robber or thief is able to stop them with a calm, deep, almost human look, coupled with a harsh appearance and size.
However, it’s not just about looks. And the nature of the Canarian dog has a very high territoriality, they continuously control their territory, people and animals on it. This dog can enjoy communication with the owner, games or food, but if someone violates the border of the territory, he will forget about everything and will protect it with incredible tenacity. And nothing can seduce, distract, deceive. Only the owner’s command can calm the dog.
However, they are quite calm and will not attack unless provoked. In the course are pre-emptive techniques: a roar, a grin and aggressive postures.
Fighting past still manifests itself in some dogs, but they get along quite well with their own kind. Especially if the puppies have been socialized.
When it comes to relationships with children, Dogo Canarios take part in children’s games with pleasure and love children. But, there are two nuances.
First, it is undesirable to leave children unattended with any dog, not to mention such a large one.
Second, socialization is important. The dog must understand children, know them. Otherwise, innocent children’s games with screams and running around can be mistaken for aggression towards their child, with all the consequences …
These are dogs not prone to barking. If the dog understands that someone is a threat, he will attack without wasting time barking. A voice is given if a stranger needs to be warned or scared away. Lai inspires, he is hoarse and booming.
It’s not that these dogs don’t trust strangers, they don’t take their eyes off them. In addition, they are observant and sensitive, nothing will pass unnoticed by them. At the same time, they are calm, they do not need fuss and problems.
They usually lie where they can view their possessions and quietly watch them.
It is not true that Great Danes cannot live in an apartment. Of course, these are large dogs and it is preferable to keep them in a house with a spacious yard. But, if given sufficient physical activity, they are able to live in an apartment, albeit with less comfort.
Dogo Canario is not for beginner breeders. These are smart and dominant dogs, able to make decisions on their own, without regard to the owner. A good breeder will spend a lot of time explaining the do’s and don’ts of how to properly train a puppy.
But, the most important role is played by the owner’s experience and his ability to manage the dog, while understanding it. Two extremes are unacceptable in education – rudeness and softness. These dogs need a firm, strong, skillful hand.
Don’t forget, these dogs have been involved in fatal incidents. The import of this breed into Australia and New Zealand is prohibited. This breed is not for irresponsible and inexperienced owners!
Care
Easy, as the coat is short. During shedding, brushing every few days is recommended.
The climate must also be taken into account, since these dogs live in the tropics, and the coat practically does not protect against the cold. In the cold season, walks are shortened, and the dog is additionally dressed.
Health
Like all large breeds, it is prone to hip dysplasia and volvulus. Average life expectancy is between 8 and 12 years.

In the middle of June 2015, my son went on a vacation, to be more precise, to learn how to surf. It was our first independent trip. My son was incredibly delighted! The sun, the sea, sports, entertainment, and most importantly, the spiritual home atmosphere and many new friends. To my great disappointment, we almost did not communicate during his absence; he had no time for his mom…
Summer is coming! We are really looking forward to the next trip, new experiences, emotions!

A great place to teach children discipline without restricting their freedom! There are lots of different activities besides surfing, which are great: quests, camel riding, aquapark and a zoo. And what is very important is constant informal communication with children from other countries who do not speak Russian. There are all the possibilities for those who wish to “talk” in English. And great food too!)

Hello. My son was in the camp last year on the first shift. He lived for a month there. He loved it very much. He spent last year talking about how he wants to go back there. He came tanned, learned to ride a board, got many new friends, they were like one big family. I advise your children to go to this wonderful place.

My son was in the camp for the first shift of 2017. He is delighted; it was the first really positive experience with the camp. Family atmosphere, excellent counsellors, attentive and helpful administration.
I’m writing with all the responsibility because I’ve been around for a week and have seen everything with my own eyes.
Surf lessons are also “on the rise”: children go to safe spots, always supervised. We are going to go again.

Hello! We really enjoyed this camp. The son was very pleased, found new friends, new experience, knowledge. I lived not far from the camp and often visited, I myself got a lot of pleasure, I felt like a child again. The camp has a very warm and cozy atmosphere. My son really liked the English quests and surf. The program was so rich that the children did not have time to experience all the emotions. Well, a grandiose walk on a yacht was remembered by absolutely all children! The cooks will also not be left without attention, the cuisine is very tasty! Well, you can talk a lot about qualified, professional, with extensive experience counselors! A huge THANK YOU to everyone for the great time, warmth and vivid memories! We did not want to go home at all and we will definitely return next year !!!

⦁ Here I am, planning a vacation for the summer. The child does not want to hear anything, only here! My daughter has been attending this camp for three years now. And every time an upgraded child comes back. In the 17th year we decided to go with the whole family. This is truly a magical place, the island beckons to explore it. We often visited the children in the camp and made sure why the children come so wound up. A cozy atmosphere reigns in Kemp, children are never seen, they are constantly occupied with something. Very tasty food, excellent counselors, who during the shift become almost like native people to children. Imagine! During the shift, my daughter forgot that she had parents. Every day, counselors come up with new games so that the children do not get bored. But the games are so educational that children get a supply of new thoughts and ideas. Every morning, they go surfing, take part in the fight against the elements and conquer the waves. Excellent instructors who teach, take care of safety and look after the children. I tried it myself, only in another, adult group. But, in addition, they explore the island, conquer the peaks of the mountains, overcome the elements of wind and sand, bike tours around the island, trips on a catamaran and other trips to explore all the secret places of the island. My daughter liked the camp so much that she doesn’t want to go anywhere. He says that only there he receives the most vivid emotions, finds new friends, and receives new aspirations in life for himself. In short, we will go here again!
