Egypt’s 3,000 year history is rich and complex, filled with more than just mummies and pyramids. This land has ties to people and places that existed millenniums ago.

There are many sights to see in Egypt. The pyramids of Giza, the oldest of the original seven wonders of the world, remain still largely intact. The life-giving Nile River. The legendary tomb of King Tut.

But, as many sights as there are in Egypt, recent conflict in and around the country has increased the risks of travel there.

What Is the Climate Like in Egypt?

Egypt only has two seasons – a hot summer and a moderate winter. In general, Egyptian days are warm or hot and nights are cool or even cold. While the majority of Egypt is desert, there are four unique physical regions with different climates.

The Nile Region

  • Nile Delta – The ancient city Alexandria is located in the Nile Delta. This area was created by the world’s longest river and is the most expansive oasis in the world. The delta begins north of Cairo and extends farther north to the Mediterranean Sea. This region has a hot desert climate. But, the most northern part closest to the sea is the wettest region in the country. It has higher humidity and more moderate temperatures, reaching no higher than 90 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Nile Valley – This region includes the two major Egyptian cities Luxor and Aswan. The Nile Valley is hot and dry, with very little precipitation. The summer months get especially hot, with daytime temperatures reaching highs of up to 105 degrees Fahrenheit at the peak of the summer. Nighttime temperatures dip down to around 70 degrees Fahrenheit at the lowest points. The winter months are much more moderate with less fluctuation from night to day.

Western Desert

The Pyramids of Giza are located in the northeast corner of this region.

This region is one of the driest areas in the Sahara Desert. It spans from the Mediterranean Sea south to the Sudanese Border, and from the Libyan border east to the Nile River Valley. The area rarely sees any rain. Hot, dry sandstorms, called khamsins, are common in the spring months and can be dangerous.

Temperatures vary greatly. In summer months, temperatures can get up to 110 degrees Fahrenheit during the day and 45 degrees Fahrenheit at night. In winter months, temperatures fluctuate less, but the desert can get to 65 degrees Celsius during the day and as low as 30 degrees Celsius at night.

Eastern Desert

The Eastern Desert is mountainous. The topography increases east of the Nile to become dry, rocky hills, the Red Sea Mountains, at elevations around 1,900 meters or higher. This is a dry, desolate area that is isolated from the rest of the country. There is not much in this part of the country because it is not suitable for agriculture or other sustained settlements.

Sinai Peninsula

This is a triangular peninsula that connects Asia with Africa. It is also known as the Sinai Desert because of its arid climate. The rest of Egypt is to the West, Israel and the Gaza Strip to the east. The Mediterranean Sea is to the north and the Red Sea is to the south.

The peninsula has two distinctly different climates. The northern part of the peninsula, closer to the Mediterranean, is dry and intensely hot during the summer and sees more rain during the winter. The southern part, closer to the Red Sea, is at higher elevation and is more prone to clouds, especially near the tops of the hills. The temperatures fluctuate a little more, getting cooler at night. Humidity is higher near the coasts on the peninsula.

Is It Safe to Travel to Safe?

Avoid an Embarrassing Stop

Non-essential travel to Egypt is not recommended. The U.S. Department of State has issued travel warnings to Egypt.

Travelers should avoid going to the Western Desert toward the Libyan border and the Sinai Peninsula due to an unpredictable security situation.

When traveling to coastal resorts, exercise a high degree of caution.

Travelers should use reputable Egyptian travel agencies if they still decide to make the trip. Those agencies are informed about the security issues and will know how to best advise.

Egyptian Rules, Customs and Laws

Public Behavior

  • Intimate behavior and any sort of public displays of affection including cuddling, kissing and even hand-holding are seen as inappropriate.
  • When visiting a home, it is customary to bring a small gift and remove shoes before entering.
  • Egyptians have unique functions for the two hands. The left hand is to be used for “unclean” functions, like putting on shoes or wiping in the bathroom. It’s is seen as unhygienic to put food into the mouth or into a communal food bowl with that hand. The right hand should be used for greetings and eating.

Conversation

  • Egyptians are passionate about certain subjects and conversations about those subjects, including Israel, Islam and Palestine, should be treated carefully. There is potential for serious offense if careful consideration is not taken, especially when expressing opinions about religion.

Dress

  • Dress should be modest. Shorts are considered acceptable only near the coastal resorts, and shirts for both men and women should cover the shoulders. Immodest clothing encourages disapproval from the Egyptians as well as gropers.
  • Be conscious of dress when visiting mosques or other sacred places. Travelers should be especially modest, with women covered from wrist to ankle and men covered from below the shoulder to below the knee. Travelers should also remove their shoes or wear overshoes.

Suggestions for Women Traveling in Egypt:

  • Wear loose, opaque clothes that cover all immodest areas (chest, thighs, upper arms)
  • When traveling alone on public transportation, sit with other women or, when offered, sit in carriages reserved for women
  • When traveling with a man, wear a wedding ring. It is more respectable to appear to be married than “just friends”
  • Appear confident and travel with purpose
  • Avoid eye-contact with Egyptian men and appear standoffish rather than overly friendly
  • When swimming in pools or open-air springs, wear a t-shirt and leggings
  • If hassling or groping does occur, call out and make a scene

What Should I take to Egypt?

  • Travel Documents – Make sure to have copies of all important travel documents, including your passport, visa, travel insurance, etc.
  • Protection from the Sun – Be ready to prevent sunburns. Don’t forget sunscreen of SPF 30 or higher, a hat and sunglasses.
  • Light, breathable cotton clothing – Bring clothing that is easy to wash. Whether in Egypt’s coastal regions or arid desert areas, light clothing will help with comfort in the heat, even in winter months.
  • Jacket – This will help protect against potential summer windstorms and also provide backup for when indoors get chilly from heavy air conditioning.
  • Comfortable shoes – Many of Egypt’s most exciting sites require at least some walking and sightseeing. In general, it is best to go with comfortable shoes.
  • Health and Hygiene – Pack a basic medical kit filled with items that may not be readily available in parts of Egypt. Kits should include things like: bandages, antibacterial hand gel, pain relievers, anti-diarrhea drugs and re-hydration salts.
  • Egyptian travel adapter – To charge your phone, you will need a travel adapter made for Egypt.

Vaccinations

  • Confirm primary courses and boosters are up to date as recommended for life in Britain – including for example, seasonal flu vaccine (if indicated), MMR, vaccines required for occupational risk of exposure, lifestyle risks and underlying medical conditions.

  • Courses or boosters usually advised:
    Poliomyelitis; Tetanus.

  • Other vaccines to consider:
Hepatitis A; Hepatitis B; Rabies; Typhoid.

  • Selectively advised vaccines – only for those individuals at highest risk:
    none.

  • Yellow fever vaccination certificate required for travellers aged 9 months or over arriving from countries with risk of yellow fever transmission (with the addition of Eritrea, Rwanda, Somalia, United Republic of Tanzania and Zambia) and for travellers having transited for more than 12 hours through an airport of a country with risk of yellow fever transmission (with the same additions as above). In the absence of a vaccination certificate, the individual will be detained in quarantine for up to 6 days after arrival from an area at risk of yellow fever transmission.

Notes on the diseases mentioned above

  • Hepatitis A:&nbsp

spread through consuming contaminated food and water or person to person through the faecal-oral route.

Risk is higher where personal hygiene and sanitation is poor.

Risk is highest for those with underlying medical conditions where there is increased risk of severe disease e.g. chronic liver/kidney disease; haemophiliacs; men who have sex with men; people who inject drugs.

  • Hepatitis B:&nbsp

spread through infected blood and blood products, contaminated needles and medical instruments and sexual intercourse.

Risk is higher for long stays, frequent travel and for children (exposed through cuts and scratches), those who may require medical treatment during travel.

Risk is highest for those with underlying medical conditions where there is increased risk of severe disease e.g. chronic liver/kidney disease; haemophiliacs; men who have sex with men; people who change partners frequently; people who inject drugs.

  • Poliomyelitis:&nbsp

spread mainly through person to person contact (faecal-oral route) and by consuming contaminated food and water. A total of 5 doses of polio-containing vaccine are recommended in the UK for lifetime cover. Boosters are usually recommended for travel to countries where polio remains a problem.

Countries may require proof of polio vaccination when you leave them: check the ‘Alerts’ section below to see if there are any ‘Polio Vaccination Exit recommendations’ for this country.

  • Rabies:&nbsp

spread through the saliva of infected animals (especially dogs, cats, bats and monkeys), usually through a bite, scratch or lick to broken skin. Risk is higher for those working or living in remote or rural areas (with no easy access to medical facilities), longer stay travellers, those planning on undertaking activities such as trekking, cycling or running in a ‘high risk’ country, those working with, or regularly handling animals or bats, as part of their job, and children. Even after receiving pre-travel rabies vaccine, urgent medical advice should be sought after any animal or bat bite.

  • Tetanus:&nbsp

spread through contamination of cuts, burns and wounds with tetanus spores. Spores are found in soil worldwide. A total of 5 doses of tetanus vaccine are recommended for life in the UK. Boosters are usually recommended in a country or situation where the correct treatment of an injury may not be readily available.

  • Typhoid:&nbsp

spread mainly through consumption of contaminated food and drink. Risk is higher where access to adequate sanitation and safe water is limited.

Malaria

  • Malaria not normally present unless the illness was contracted abroad.

Other Health Risks

Altitude and Travel

This country has either areas with high altitude (2400m or more) or/and areas with very high altitude (3658m or more). Travellers who may go into areas of high altitude should take care to avoid ill effects of being at altitude including Acute Mountain Sickness, a potentially life-threatening condition. For further information see Altitude and Travel.

Schistosomiasis

A parasitic infection (also known as bilharzia) that is transmitted to humans through contact with fresh water. The parasite enters humans through the skin and prevention is dependant on avoidance of swimming, bathing or paddling in fresh water lakes and streams. For further information see Schistosomiasis.

Egypt Vaccinations & Travel Health Advice

Risk / Health Info for Egypt

What immunizations should I get for Egypt

The vaccines you need for Egypt are listed on this page. Before you leave for Egypt, consult our advisers about making sure your shots are up to date. Hepatitis A and typhoid vaccinations are recommended, especially as they are spread by unsafe water and food. Avoid “traveller’s diarrhea”: practise good food and water precautions: use only commercially bottled or sterilized water, and do not eat food that has not been boiled or cooked or that you have not peeled.

Which travellers need a hepatitis B vaccine?

Consider a hepatitis B vaccination before travelling to Egypt if you are a healthcare worker or plan to have a surgical procedure, tattoo or piercing in Egypt. Hep B is spread by contact with blood and body fluid, so children can catch it through cuts and grazes. It is also spread by unprotected sex or by unsterilized needles.

Can I catch rabies in Egypt?

It is possible to get rabies in Egypt if an infected animal bites or licks you. Make sure your shot is up to date, especially if you will spend time in remote areas or work with animals. Always get immediate medical attention if you are bitten or scratched by an animal during your time in Egypt, even if you have been vaccinated so that a healthcare professional can decide whether to recommend post-exposure rabies prophylaxis.

What are the healthcare facilities like in Egypt?

Some of the medical facilities in tourist resorts are of questionable quality and it is recommended you get local advice before attending. Psychiatric care may not be available outside major cities. It is highly recommended that you purchase travel health insurance before you leave Canada for Egypt because provincial or territorial health plans may not cover medical costs while you are outside the country. Contact your provincial or territorial health authority for more information.

The emergency number in Egypt is 123.

Other health information for Egypt

Egypt’s desert climate means that it may be challenging to stay hydrated. Drink plenty of water and replace your salts.

There have been a few cases of avian flu in Egypt. These occur mainly in rural areas. The risk to humans is very low and you can further reduce your risk of contracting bird flu by avoiding contact with wild or domestic birds.

Travellers to Egypt are at risk of several mosquito-borne illnesses, including malaria and dengue. Practise mosquito avoidance with a reliable insect repellent and by covering up as much as possible. Sleep under a net if practical.

Altitude in Egypt
Parts of Egypt are higher than 2,400m, and travellers planning to spend time at a high altitude should take steps to protect themselves against the potentially life-threatening acute mountain sickness. Your healthcare provider can help with this.
Schistosomiasis in Egypt
The schistosomiasis parasite enters humans through the skin during contact with fresh water. To prevent infection, avoid swimming or paddling in lakes and streams in Egypt. This condition is also known as bilharzia.
Dengue fever in Egypt
There have been cases of the mosquito-borne virus dengue fever in Egypt. Dengue fever is also known as breakbone fever because of the severe bone, joint and muscular pains it causes, in addition to flu-like fever and headache. There is no vaccine for dengue fever. Avoid mosquito bites by using insect repellents (50% DEET) and by wearing protective clothing. Sleeping with mosquito nets is also recommended.
Malaria in Egypt
Malaria prophylaxis will be required for some parts of Egypt at certain times of year. There is no malaria vaccine, but there are anti-malaria drugs that should be taken before, during and after travelling to certain at-risk countries. Speak with your healthcare provider six weeks before your trip, as not all prophylaxis regimes are appropriate for all regions and all individuals.

The situation with coronavirus in the country has improved, no more than a few dozen infected are detected per day. Therefore, now vaccination certificates and negative test results are no longer required to enter the country. Previously, it was possible to enter the country with a certificate of vaccination of one of the vaccines approved by Cairo (Sputnik V is one of them) or by a negative PCR test result.

In addition, on January 22, the authorities began to test for infection of persons whose certificates they had doubts about the authenticity. If such a test at entry was positive, the tourist was isolated at the hotel until re-tested, except in cases where the foreigner entered the country through Cairo or Alexandria. From these cities, tourists were immediately sent to the country of departure.

In January, the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism announced that they would change the entry rules if the epidemiological situation in the world improves.

www.adv.rbc.ru

According to the WHO, in the spring the situation with coronavirus in Egypt began to normalize: if on January 31, more than 15 thousand cases of infection were recorded in the republic, then on March 7 their number was about 5 thousand, and on June 13 – only 33.

Rules for entering Egypt for Russians

PCR test (cancelled from June 14)

9015 Certification required receive no later than 72 hours before entering the country. One of the new requirements is that the certificate must be in English. This article told you in which laboratories you can get test results in English.

  • An important condition of the test – the “shelf life” of the results is counted from the moment you took the analysis, until the departure of the plane to Egypt. Please note, if you are flying with a transfer, then this time must also be taken into account. For example, if you have a connection in some city, then you need to calculate exactly from the moment of departure from this point to Egypt.
  • Children under 6 do not need to take a coronavirus test.
  • It is also important that the certificate be issued with the original seal of the laboratory that issued the result. Photocopies or smartphone screen data will not be accepted.
  • The certificate must indicate the exact time of your testing, as well as the research method itself – PCR.
  • You need to make several photocopies of certificates in order to return them at the airport.
  • Tourists note that the requirements are not very strict. In some cases, electronic versions of the coronavirus test were also accepted. However, we recommend that you follow all the rules regarding the certificate.

    Visa to Egypt in 2022

Citizens can fly to Egypt without a pre-arranged visa. The stamp is placed upon arrival at the airport. To avoid standing in line, you can apply for an e-visa in advance.

    Migration Card

The Migration Card must be completed in order to clear customs. This form is not issued on the aircraft. At the airport there will be counters with cards, which tourists must fill out on their own. When there are a lot of passengers, there may not be enough pens and you will have to wait in line, so we recommend that you have it with you.

How to fill out a migration card? Most importantly, you need to specify the name, surname and passport details. But it is better to fill in all the fields.

    1. Flight number (can be found on the ticket or boarding pass).
    2. In Latin, you must indicate the city where you arrived from.
    3. Surname written in Latin (PETROV).
    4. Name.
    5. Date of birth.
    6. Citizenship (RUSSIA).
    7. Series and passport number.
    8. The name of a hotel in Egypt.
    9. Purpose of stay in the country.
    10. Names and date of birth of children also in Latin.

    Medical insurance with coronavirus coverage

Travelers to Egypt must have travel insurance with COVID-19 coverage in advance.

Insurance is issued very quickly – no more than 10 minutes. At Polis812 you can compare the prices of several insurers and choose the one that suits you best. 15% discount with promo code. Details about what kind of insurance is suitable for a trip to Egypt, told in this article.

In short, it is best to choose from three options with coronavirus coverage: ERV, AlfaStrahovanie or Polis Oxygen.

For trips to Dubai, Turkey, the Maldives, etc. during the pandemic, our customers choose these insurances. Comments about insurers can be read in the “Reviews” section.

At the first symptoms of coronavirus (or in other insured events), you must contact the assistance – a service company that provides assistance to tourists.

The service company number will appear on your insurance. The operator will give you further instructions and tell you which clinic to contact.

Important! Do not self-medicate or pay for medical services until you have reported the insured event. Otherwise, the insurance company may refuse to pay out.

In July 2021, Russia lifted the ban on flights to Egyptian resorts, which had been in effect since 2015.

For entry you will need a certificate of absence of coronavirus or a certificate of vaccination. I’ll tell you more about everything.

Do I need a visa to travel to Egypt

Tourists usually receive a visa upon arrival at the airport. It costs $25 (1928 R) and is valid for 30 days. You can also apply for a visa in advance, before the trip, on the visa2egypt.gov.eg portal – it will cost the same.

Travelers who arrive at Sharm El Sheikh Airport can get a “Sinai Stamp” free of charge. It gives the right to stay on the territory of the Sinai Peninsula for 15 days.

What coronavirus requirements must be met to enter the country

All travelers over 12 years old must present a choice of a coronavirus test result or a certificate of vaccination. Also, fill out a health declaration. I’ll tell you more.

Coronavirus test. There are two types of tests that can be taken to get into Egypt: PCR before departure and a rapid test upon arrival at two airports. Let me tell you about these options.

Egypt Entry Rules – English PDF, 283 KB

PCR test must be taken within 72 hours prior to departure. The requirements for the antigen test are the same. But tour operators and carriers may require an antigen certificate valid for 24 hours. We recommend checking the rules before traveling. At the border control point, the validity of certificates is counted from the moment you visit the laboratory, and not from the date the certificate was issued.

Cairo accepts only paper certificates issued immediately in English or Arabic, with the seal of an official laboratory, a doctor’s signature and a QR code. Translation of the document, handwritten certificate and certificates with errors are not suitable. You also need to have a paper copy of the document – it can be picked up at the airport.

Hurghada and Sharm el-Sheikh airports accept certificates with a QR or barcode. When scanning, the tourist’s data and the result of his test should be opened, and not the laboratory’s website: otherwise the certificate will not be accepted. Instead of a paper certificate, you can show an email from the laboratory where the tourist took the test.

This is what a certificate with the result of a PCR test looks like

Instead of taking a coronavirus test before departure, this can be done upon arrival at an Egyptian airport. But only if the traveler arrives in Sharm El Sheikh or Hurghada. The study costs $20 (2314 R), tourists go through it at their own expense. The result is promised to be issued within an hour.

In Sharm el-Sheikh, you can pay for the analysis in cash in dollars or local currency. In Hurghada – only with a Visa card. But Russian Visa and MasterCard cards do not yet work abroad, so it is better to take an analysis in advance in Russia.

If the test is positive, the tourist will be sent to a five-day quarantine in a special area of the hotel or hospital. The cost of accommodation, food and non-alcoholic drinks will be covered by the hotel, and the Ministry of Health of Egypt will cover the costs of treatment.

Vaccination certificate. The vaccinated passengers were exempted from tests. Upon arrival in any city in Egypt, they show a certificate of vaccination. The country’s authorities approved the vaccines Sputnik V, Pfizer, AstraZeneca, Moderna, Sinopharm, Sinovac and Johnson & Johnson. Tourists are allowed into Egypt 14 days after the second dose of vaccination. Travelers vaccinated by Johnson & Johnson were allowed to enter 14 days after a single dose. A certificate of vaccination is accepted only with a QR code, without corrections or damage to the document.

Health declaration is issued at the airport or on the plane. Another document can be downloaded from the egypt.travel website. You may need a VPN to open the site. The declaration is filled out and given at passport control. If a person is diagnosed with COVID-19, the authorities will be able to contact the passengers who were on the plane with the sick person.

Where to get tested before flying out of Egypt

Russian tourists who return from Egyptian resorts on flights with a connection in Cairo do not need to present a covid test to board the plane.

Analysis is not required if you are flying to Russia with a stopover in Istanbul and making the flight as a single booking: in this case, two flight segments of the same airline must be indicated on the ticket. When issuing two separate tickets and changing the air carrier or airport for boarding the aircraft, they are asked to have the test result with them.

In Hurghada, you can take the test in a new laboratory in the tourist area. They accept tourists with a visa and a voucher for hotel accommodation. The test costs 30 $⁣ (2314 R), the result will be ready within 24 hours. But it is temporarily impossible to pay in cash – only with a Visa or MasterCard card that work abroad.

    /sale-region-trips/

How to save on flights and tours if you live in the region

In Sharm el-Sheikh, tests are taken at Sharm International Hospital for the same price. You can call the laboratory staff to take the biomaterial to the hotel, the service costs $60⁣ (4627 R). In Dahab, taking an analysis at a hotel will cost $80⁣ (6170 R). In Cairo, it is not possible to take a PCR test at the airport. And clinics ask for a service from 500 EGP (3689 R) to 2000 EGP (9857 R).

What are the restrictions in Egypt

There are no serious restrictions in Egypt. In the premises, public transport and taxis, everyone must wear masks. In fact, both locals and tourists often do not follow this rule, although they can be fined 50 LE⁣ (245 R) for violating it.

Cafes, restaurants, shopping centers are open as usual. In restaurants, the number of visitors is limited to 70%. Hotels are allowed to fill 100%.

News about the lifting of restrictions on working hours – in English

“Locals and tourists hardly wear masks”

    Yaroslav Gafner

lived in Egypt throughout February and March 2021

Egyptians and visitors wear masks mostly only in supermarkets. For example, without them they may not be allowed into Carrefour and Metro stores.

They often wear masks on the territory with a police post, for example, on the embankment in Hurghada. True, after passing through control, people immediately take them off, and the police do not make any comments. At the Pyramids of Giza, the Monastery of Saint Simeon the Tanner in Cairo, and the Valley of the Kings in Luxor, employees didn’t care if visitors were taking precautions or not.

No one wears a mask on buses, trains, ferries. But in the Cairo metro, as well as in the capital’s airport, they are put on. Compliance with the rules is strictly monitored only in airplanes. Uber drivers always comply with protective measures, but employees of local taxi services do not. They also make fun of tourists if they wear masks.

Foreign tourists will now enter Egypt under the new coronavirus rules. First of all, the update concerns those who have not been vaccinated and travel with PCR tests and antigen tests.

“According to the updated rules of the Egyptian Ministry of Health, passengers arriving in the republic must either provide a certificate of full vaccination against covid, or an original certificate with a PCR test and a QR code, or with an antigen test done no earlier than 24 hours before arrival,” reports 19December “Interfax” with reference to the tour operator TUI.

In this case, the PCR test must be done in a certified laboratory no earlier than 72 hours before arrival in Egypt. The term is counted from the date of biomaterial sampling. The certificate is needed in English or Arabic, the exact time and date of the test, the test method (RT-PCR), and a QR code must be added. Certificates with handwritten data and handwritten corrections will not be accepted.

Different in Turkey and Egypt, not only the sea

    Share

Until the end of the year there are not so many opportunities for recreation. Especially if you are the parent of a student. Then your vacation options are also limited to vacation dates. And until the end of the year – once and miscalculated. And, by the way, in some directions for these dates you can no longer find tickets. Including the choice is smaller with respect to Turkey and Egypt. And while the tickets have not been finally sorted out, let’s figure out where to go to relax, if you haven’t decided yet. We asked the experts of the tourism world for advice and invited them to weigh the pros and cons. (And all the materials about the pandemic vacation are collected on our website in one story).

According to the latest information from the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Istanbul, when entering Turkey, Russian tourists need to present certificates of vaccination with two doses of vaccines registered by WHO or in Turkey for emergency use. In the case of Russian drugs, only Sputnik V is eligible for this rule. No Lights. In this case, the vaccination must be done at least 14 days before entering the country. A certificate of the coronavirus transferred over the past six months is also suitable. In this case, a negative PCR test will not be required.

If you haven’t been vaccinated, you haven’t had coronavirus and you’re over 12 years old, go get tested. A negative PCR test taken no earlier than 72 hours before entry, or a negative rapid antigen test taken no earlier than 48 hours, will do.

Another condition that must be observed in Turkey is the HES codes. This rule has been in effect since March 15, and nothing has changed here, but just in case, we recall what’s what. All citizens arriving in Turkey must fill out an electronic form no earlier than 72 hours before the trip. On its basis, an individual HES code will be automatically generated. This form must be presented at check-in at the airport of departure. The form can be filled out on the website of the Turkish Ministry of Health and printed or saved electronically on any device convenient for you.

And don’t forget to wear masks in public places in Turkey. If caught with an uncovered face – a fine.

To travel to Egypt, must provide one of two documents to choose from: a certificate stating that you do not have coronavirus (based on a PCR test; children under six years of age do not need to provide this certificate), or a certificate of vaccination in English with one of the drugs approved by the Ministry of Health of the ARE (of the Russian vaccines, this list includes only Sputnik V) with a QR code. In this case, the second dose of the vaccine must be made at least 14 days before entering Egypt.

In Turkey, there are more excursions within walking distance from the resorts. Therefore, from an entertainment point of view, it looks more attractive than Egypt.

    Vacation options in Turkey

    Share

Interesting excursions can also be found in Egypt, but they are far from the resorts, so not everyone dares to visit them.

What entertainment awaits you in Egypt

    Share

Children’s leisure is well organized in both countries, but in Turkey it is more diverse and adapted to the needs of European tourists. Most Turkish hotels – especially 4-5 star hotels – are equipped with rooms and playgrounds for children. Almost everywhere there are Russian-speaking employees. Modern aquariums work for them in Antalya and Istanbul. They can be combined with a visit to the dolphinarium or water park, which can be found next to any resort. In Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada, the main children’s entertainment for travelers takes place on site. From children’s excursions, only a trip to one of the water parks or to the dolphinarium of Sharm el-Sheikh can be noted.

“But a huge plus for Egypt is the Red Sea,” says Natalya Sakhnova, director of the travel agency. – Underwater amazing world right there off the coast. Except in Egypt, this can only be seen in the Maldives. But the Maldives is not an example more expensive. And about the excursion program – well, we have covid. So stay at the hotel. They have such vast territories that you can sit in your bungalow and swim in the sea. Is there nowhere to go from the hotel? Well, it is not necessary.

Although the territories of Egyptian hotels are often larger than Turkish ones, experts call Turkish hotels the best – at least in terms of mentality.

“Hotels are better in Turkey,” says Olga Gulyar, director of the travel company. — Yes, and the Egyptian mentality is different. The Egyptians are slow, lazy. Turkey is already a more European origin, you can negotiate with the Turks. Yes, the kitchen is better. The level of hotels is better. Although there are great hotels in Egypt, we know and recommend them. But there are also bad ones that have been closed more than once. So when booking, it is better to contact professionals who will tell you and advise the hotel you should go to.

    — It is clear that the Russian tourist most often travels to resort destinations on the “all inclusive” — adds Natalia Sakhnova. – So here, for example, you can take into account such simple moments. If in Turkey even just a good hotel gives free ice cream, for example, from nine in the morning to 16:00, then in Egypt – only two hours. In terms of alcohol: if Turkey has elite alcohol, then in Egypt it is most often locally produced.

Traditionally in Turkey the high season is from May to early October, in Egypt – in October-November and April-May. Therefore, a heat-loving Russian tourist in Egypt will be comfortable even in November-December, and in Turkey at this time it will already be a little cool.

For lovers of hot weather and warm sea, the summer months in Turkey are suitable, at the peak of the tourist season. In Egypt in the summer (and even in September) it can seem too hot.

The cost of Turkey and Egypt are about the same (Egypt is a little more expensive, but not criminally expensive). How much you spend on a trip depends on your Wishlist, but you must remember, of course, that shopping in Turkey is one of the entertainments.

“Egypt is expensive because there is not enough of it,” says Natalya Sakhnova. – Connoisseurs, lovers, who are bored, are coming. Plus, it will be warmer in Egypt in November. Everything is selling very well. Especially on holidays.

Well, do not forget that Egypt opened after a long break just recently. There are still few direct flights here from Russia, and they are not as frequent as we would like.
