The hottest Canary Island throughout the year is, without a doubt, Tenerife. It is the largest island in the Canaries, and the dormant volcano Mt. Teide also lies within it. Tenerife is at the hottest in August, so if you plan to visit the Island, and you want to visit it at the hottest, make sure you make the travel around this time.

Tenerife is also famous for its nightlife, and it has been rated as the best Island for partying and windsurfing. Depending on how you want to spend your holiday, you can pick one of these islands as your next destination.

In this article, I will talk about the Hottest Canary Island, the temperatures and climate throughout the year, and the best time to visit the Canaries, depending upon the best weather conditions. So, let us get started.

Hottest Canary Island

The Canary Islands are located 80 miles from the coast of Morocco and are directly in exposure to the sun in the Atlantic Ocean which is why the weather there is very intense.

The Canary Islands are very hot, and all of them have high temperatures during the summer. Still, if we are talking about a more optimal temperature average that remains the same virtually during the whole year, then the hottest Island is undoubtedly the island of Tenerife.

Tenerife is a significantly large Island, and it is the biggest island in the Canaries. It is divided into Northern and Southern regions, where you can find excellent resorts, beaches, and watersports opportunities in both the summer and the winter.

Other Islands like Gran Canaria, Lanzarote, and Fuerteventura are also warm. Still, the variation of temperature and climate is pretty vast in these places compared to the uniformity of the weather in Tenerife. However, all of these locations will be great if you plan a trip with friends and family.

38ºC+ high temperatures on Gran Canaria, Orange warnings extended for Gran Canaria this Tuesday : The Canary

The July summer heat is expected to continue for another few days here in The Canary Islands with the ECMWF European weather forecasting models predicting a day of intense heat this Tuesday that looks set to affect all the islands. Temperatures on Monday were already stifling, especially on Gran Canaria, and the south of Tenerife and Fuerteventura, and this Tuesday the thermometers will continue to rise in many places throughout the archipelago.

The General Directorate of Security and Emergencies have updated their alert for maximum temperatures on Gran Canaria and extended it to Tenerife, La Gomera and El Hierro as well, effective as of 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 26.

According to Spanish State Meteorological Agency, AEMET, the heatwave affecting the archipelago will continue, and on the islands where the alert has been declared, maximum temperatures are expected to reach and even exceed 38ºC in the shade, as ever much hotter in direct sunlight.

It will be hotter in the interior, inland areas and higher altitude areas of the southern half of the islands, and could intensely affect some sectors on the southeast coast of Gran Canaria.

AEMET have modified their advisory warnings for adverse phenomena on the Canary Islands for this Tuesday, July 26. There will be an orange warning for maximum temperatures, expected to reach up to around 38ºC in the shade, focused primarily on highland and inland areas and on the southeast coast of Gran Canaria. This threshold may be exceeded in some places. There is also an orange warning for temperatures of around 37ºC on La Gomera, El Hierro and the south, east, west and metropolitan areas of Tenerife.

The north of Gran Canaria maintains a yellow advisory warning, with maximums of 34ºC.  The south coast could hit 40ºC

One of the hottest places in Spain
Thermometers on Gran Canaria reached 45ºC on Monday in Tasarte, during the afternoon, on the west of the island, recording the fourth highest temperature in all Spain, surpassed only by three Murcian municipalities, on the mainland, where the mercury added a few tenths more. This trend may be repeated today, according to AEMET forecasts with an orange alert for high temperatures across a large part of the island.

Other parts of Gran Canaria’s south-facing midlands also saw temperatures exceeding 40º Celsius in several cases, including in Agüimes, where they reached 43.2ºC, and in San Bartolomé de Tirajana reaching 41.7. In Telde, the temperatures were similar, as they were in Tejeda, in the central heartlands of the summit areas. The capital, saw cooler temperatures due to the usual summer Panza de Burro (Belly of the Donkey, mottled cloud cover), registering temperatures of around 30ºC this Monday, also seeing some Calima haze.

The situation this Tuesday puts all the islands at some risk due to high temperatures, as well as adverse coastal phenomena. Gran Canaria will once again see the worst of the temperatures with an Orange Advisory Warning (serious risk), with the potential to exceed 38ºC inland, in high areas and on the southeast coasts, while across the rest of the island, a yellow advisory is in place, with temperatures expected to reach 36ºC in the shade.

Forecast temperatures for Tuesday METEORED

AEMET forecasts the skies will start slightly cloudy this Tuesday on the north, elsewhere clear, although there will be a little cloud travelling down the east coast during the first half of the day. The Calima will continue, especially at high altitudes, with minimum night time temperatures looking to continue practically the same as yesterdays.

Maximum temperatures are expected to rise, and the winds will be from the northeast, with greater intensity on the northwest and southeast slopes of the island. Its intensity will increase throughout the day, until the afternoon, when there could be some very strong gusts. The summits of the island will see easterly winds, while the west coasts should enjoy fairly light breezes.

6 Cities of Eternal Spring – OneTwoTrip Blog

On the one hand, traveling from winter to summer is great, in contrast to home frosts, overseas sun and juicy fruits are a special pleasure. But on the other hand, a temperature drop of 50˚C outside becomes a serious stress for the body. Yes, and the tropical heat itself can quickly tire, but on vacation you really want to walk more, and not sit in an air-conditioned room waiting for the evening. If you have ever had similar thoughts, you will definitely like our selection: cities of eternal spring that have perfect weather all year round.

Medellin, Colombia

Photo: Diego Grandi / Shutterstock.com

The city of Medellin has several nicknames, including “City of Eternal Spring”, “Capital of the Mountains”, “City of Flowers” and “Capital of Orchids” . Although the city is located in the equatorial zone, it is located at an altitude of 1.5 kilometers above sea level, so the average temperature here all year round is 22˚C, and the air is always fresh thanks to the westerly winds from the Pacific Ocean. The city is famous for its unusual architecture, which is especially beautiful in the light of night lights. The brightest event of the year is the festival “Flower Fair” (“Feria de las Flores”),

during which bright parades are held and the city is decorated with floral works of art. This year the festival will be held from July 29 to August 7.

Sao Paulo, Brazil

Photo: Filipe Frazao / Shutterstock.com sea level. Eternal spring here can still be divided into two seasons: cool spring and warm spring. From June to September in Sao Paulo it rains very rarely, and the air temperature ranges from 17˚C to 19˚C. In the rest of the months, the clouds save from the hot sun, maintaining the average temperature within 22˚C – 23˚С. The city is remarkable for the harmonious mixture of architectures of different eras and styles: an ancient church can coexist here with a modern skyscraper, but at the same time the picture looks absolutely organic. Although Sao Paulo is a metropolis, it was created for walking, there is a lot of greenery, large parks and recreation areas, museums and monuments.

Canary Islands, Spain

Although only Tenerife is called the island of eternal spring, in fact, all seven islands of the archipelago have a very mild climate with annual temperature fluctuations from 17˚C to 24˚C and sunny weather all year round. Hot desert air from the African continent on the way to the islands is saturated with moisture and cooled by the Atlantic Ocean. On the island of Fuerteventura there is a real desert, which differs from the Sahara only in that the ocean is still visible on the horizon behind the dunes. Lanzarote is known for its “out-of-this-world” volcanic landscapes, where films about life on Mars have even been filmed. Well, Tenerife itself is the most famous resort of the Canary Islands, where there is everything you need for a beach holiday.

Da Lat, Vietnam

The relatively young resort was built a little over a hundred years ago by the French colonialists who were looking for salvation from the stuffiness and heat of Saigon in the mountainous region. Located at an altitude of 1,475 meters above sea level, the city is surrounded by evergreen forests and natural parks with waterfalls and lakes, picturesque valleys and passes. The average temperature almost does not change throughout the year and is 24˚С – 26˚С, the mountain air here is always cool and fresh. It’s worth going to Dalat for the sake of nature, and just to look at the “other” Vietnam, because this city in its appearance is more like a village in the French province.

Loja, Ecuador

At 2,380 meters above sea level, it compensates for Ecuador’s hot tropical climate, which is why the mountain city of Loja is also considered the place of eternal spring. The average monthly temperature all year round fluctuates between 22˚С – 24˚С. The city has many parks and a perfectly preserved historic center with monuments of Spanish colonial architecture. It is also pleasant to walk there because the inhabitants of the city are very musical – popular songs are often heard from the windows of houses and terraces of cafes, and passers-by whistle cheerful melodies.

Trujillo, Peru

The northern part of Peru has a mild climate, even on the coast the temperature is comfortable all year round – from 20˚C to 26˚C, therefore, no wonder that this place became the cradle of civilization. The first settlement in the valley of the mouth of the Mocho River was built of stone and clay several thousand years before our era. In the 16th century, the city was captured by the Spanish colonizers. Today Trujillo is a flourishing resort, the city of eternal spring. Tourists have something to do here: representatives of each historical era left many cultural heritage sites, which are now protected by UNESCO. First of all, these are the ruins of the city of Chan Chan, which was the capital of the ancient Chimu empire, and luxurious palaces and castles left after the Spanish colonizers.

CANARY ISLANDS

Canary Islands – a system of seven large and a large number of small islands, which are located in the Atlantic Ocean, 100 km off the northwest coast of Africa. The islands are part of the Kingdom of Spain and have two capitals: Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

The Canary Islands are of volcanic origin. Raising your head up, you can see the cones of extinct volcanoes – that bewitching sight, which, unfortunately, is not in our country. You will encounter hardened lava surfaces more than dormant volcanoes. But the main attraction of the Canaries is the Teide volcano, located on the island of Tenerife (the largest and most populated island). Tourists who love unity with nature will feel like pioneers. Until recently, narrow horse trails were the only connection with the outside world for many villages.

Climate

The climate of the Canary Islands is mild and favourable, with no strong seasonal differences. The sun does not leave this country all year round! The air temperature in winter is 17-18 degrees, and in summer 29-31. The water temperature is not lower than 20 degrees. That is why, regardless of the season, tourists from all over the European continent strive to get there. You will be delighted with a golden tan and a pleasant environment on the sea!

National characteristics

Time goes slowly on the island. For tourists who want to take a break from the hustle and bustle of the city – this is the perfect place! The most important feature of the Canary Islands is the afternoon siesta (long lunch break), which is typical for most hot countries and falls on the hottest time (from 13 to 16 pm).

Cuisine

Canarian cuisine is quite high in calories. The main and most common food is thick soups. Almost all dishes contain garlic and saffron. Various cold sauces for meat and fish are used. Of the alcoholic beverages, beer takes its place of honor. In terms of its consumption, the Canarians almost caught up with the Germans. Another famous signature Canarian drink is honey rum (ron miel). It contains palm juice, has an orange color and is slightly weaker than rum. Canarian cuisine is rich in seafood: mussels, shrimps, oysters, octopuses, lobsters, crabs – all this tastes amazing! The most popular Canaries dessert is Dulce de Leche (a creamy pasta that reminds us of “boiled condensed milk”).

The capital is Las Palmas. The island is home to the famous youth resort – Puerto Rico, where parties, nightclubs, and discos are provided in abundance. The main feature is the presence of white sand brought from Morocco. The beach is often compared to Dubai.

Fuertaventura is the island with the longest beaches. The capital is Puerto del Rosario. The island is closest to Africa. A distinctive feature of Fuerteventura is the absence of high mountains, but the presence of desert landscapes. Precipitation is extremely rare, but a big plus is the absence of poisonous snakes and insects. Beach lovers will love this place! Light sand, air temperature +27, fresh breeze and a huge territory will bring you the pleasure of your vacation on the island! The main resorts include Jandia and Corralejo.

The beaches of the Canary Islands

The beaches of this region of Spain are absolutely unique. And the reason here is not only in the amazing beauty of the local nature, but also in the amazing diligence and diligence of local authorities. The thing is that many beaches in the Canary Islands are of artificial origin. Here you can find areas of the seaside strewn with Dominican sand, as well as sand specially brought from the Sahara desert. Therefore, the beaches in the archipelago are very diverse. Some of them are white as flour, while others are golden, like the rays of the warm Spanish sun.
The natural beaches of the Canary Islands have an amazing rich black color. Today they are one of the main symbols of the island. Such coastal areas are very picturesque. Therefore, many tourists specially go to remote beaches to enjoy the amazing beauty of the Canary Islands. One of the most famous black beaches in the Canary Islands is Ahui Beach, located on the island of Fuerteventura. The gently sloping cliffs that form a small secluded bay make this place amazingly picturesque. Therefore, the small fishing village of Akhuy is constantly filled with numerous tourists who specially come to these parts to admire the local nature.

Entertainment in the Canary Islands

Like many other resorts in the world, the Canary archipelago is ready to offer tourists numerous entertainment options, ranging from traditional sea activities (windsurfing, diving, sea fishing) to completely unusual pastime options. For example, once on the island of Gran Canaria, you can book a camel ride on the picturesque sands of Dunas de Maspalomas, which is often called the miniature Sahara. And on the island of Lanzarote – take the time to visit the famous volcanic wastelands that can amaze any tourist with their “lunar landscapes” and unrealistic beauty.
Fans of more traditional entertainment should better turn their attention to the island of Tenerife. Here you can have fun in the world-famous Siam Park water park, as well as see the legendary Loro Park, which is rightfully considered one of the best zoos in the world. Penguins, lions, parrots, trained killer whales – these are just a small part of the inhabitants of this delightful place. You can walk around the local expositions for hours. And the unusual show programs, presented daily to the audience, will completely delight you.

Natural and historical sights of the Canary Islands

Almost every city on the islands of Tenerife and Gran Canaria is a full-fledged tourist attraction. Picturesque streets, ancient squares and amazing historical cathedrals and churches that can be found here literally at every step – all this splendor will allow you to fully enjoy the enchanting atmosphere of sultry Spain. As for the more monumental sights, there are also quite a few of them. This is confirmed by the modernist building of the Auditorio de Tenerife, made in the form of a sea wave, the mysterious pyramids of Guimar, located in the interior of the island, as well as numerous cathedrals and basilicas scattered throughout the archipelago.
There are many amazing natural sights in these parts. What is the majestic Teide volcano alone worth, as well as the national park located next to it?! In addition, the picturesque Orotava Valley, the mystical cave of Cueva de los Verdes, Timanfaya National Park, located on the island of Lanzarote, and some other attractions deserve attention. A visit to any of these places can be a real highlight of your trip. After all, the Canary Islands are not only amazing beaches, but also amazing natural beauties, the sight of which is breathtaking.

Tenerife, the largest island in the Canary Islands – SailMe.eu

Where is Tenerife?

The island of Tenerife or the island of “eternal spring”, as it is called for its comfortable warm climate, is not only the largest island in the archipelago of the Canary Islands, but also the most populous in Spain. Only 350 km from Tenerife to the coast of West Africa, this is the only European resort where the beach season does not end with the arrival of winter.

More than 5 million tourists from all over the world visit Tenerife every year. It has a perfectly balanced climate, developed infrastructure and plenty of ways to have a great time.

Tenerife airports

Tenerife is served by two airports. South Airport, which has a second official name in honor of the Queen of Spain Sophia of Greece, is focused on working with international flights. North Airport is relatively small, its main task is domestic flights. Both airports are comfortable and have all the necessary infrastructure: a first-aid post, banks, cafes, a VIP room, a children’s playground, a duty free zone and much more.

Buses run from both airports, both to the capital of the island and to the beach resorts. You can also rent a car or take a taxi at the airport. It will not be difficult to get to your destination by taxi, rented or public transport.

Tenerife has a well-developed bus network with routes all over the island. It is an affordable and inexpensive way to travel. Finding the right bus is easy. Buses are always green with directions on the scoreboard. The fare within the city is less than 2 euros, and between cities or resorts from 2 to 14 euros.

Payment methods:

  • Cash.
When entering the bus, you can pay the fare in cash to the driver. Do not forget to exchange large denomination banknotes, because you may not be accepted larger than 20 euros.
  • Bono cards.
These are special cards that will save you from 20 to 50% on travel. You can buy a card at bus stations or in tourist shops.

Some important rules:

If you are waiting for a bus at a bus stop, raise your hand when the bus approaches, so the bus driver will definitely not pass by. To exit the bus, you need to signal the driver in advance using the button on the handrail.

Tram service is available only in the capital of the island, Santa Cruz. The entire route is only 21 stops and ends in La Laguna, the old capital of Tenerife.

Car rental in Tenerife

If you plan to move around the island a lot, we recommend renting a car. Tenerife has a wide range of rental companies and offers: an inexpensive VW Polo, a roomy minivan or a comfortable sedan, the choice is yours. In summer, car rental is more expensive than in winter.

Be careful on the roads and obey the speed limit, the roads are equipped with surveillance cameras. Permitted speed: on motorways – 120 km/h, on the streets of settlements – 50 km/h, outside the city – 90. Do not forget to fasten yourself and passengers with seat belts, the fine for violating this rule is 200 euros.

Cities of Tenerife

The capital of Tenerife, the city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, is located in the north of the island. Even though it is the largest city in Tenerife, it can be explored on foot. In the center of Santa Cruz, buildings in the colonial style are well preserved, and on the main pedestrian street of the capital, Calle Castillo, tourist life is in full swing. Nearby is the central market of the city.

Near the city there are two completely different, but very beautiful beaches: the black volcanic beach of Taganana and the only beach in Tenerife with yellow sand – Las Teresitas. This is an artificial beach, the sand on which was brought from the African Sahara. Every year, a grandiose carnival takes place in the capital.

Northern cities also include: La Laguna, Puerto Cruz, Orotava, Garachico. San Cristobal de la Laguna is the old capital of the island, the city was founded after the conquest of Tenerife in the 15th century. Now the city is listed by UNESCO and is the spiritual center of Tenerife due to its unique architecture.

There is no main city on the south coast, the tourist center consists of several resorts in Tenerife: Cristianos, Americas and Costa Adeje.

Weather in Tenerife

Tenerife has become especially popular due to its mild climate: summer without hot heat, winter without cold. It is believed that the climate in Tenerife is the most favorable for people of all ages: it is always warm here and the average annual temperature range is minimal. This is a European resort where the beach season lasts a whole year, because even in winter the air here warms up to +22 ° C and above.

For a holiday in Tenerife in winter, it is better to consider the south of the island, where it is much warmer and sunnier, and rain is unlikely. Mountain ranges prevent the passage of cool winds to the southern beaches. In general, winter is a great time to relax in Tenerife: prices are lower, there are fewer tourists, the weather is great. Even in January and February, the air temperature will be around 21-25 degrees. For an evening walk or excursion to the mountains, it is still worth taking a windbreaker or sweater.

Entertainment in Tenerife

With Tenerife’s well-developed tourist infrastructure, you can find something to do on the island, from active sports to a relaxing beach holiday.

  • Trekking
Holidays in Tenerife are inextricably linked with ecotourism. There are all conditions for hiking trails of any complexity. You can go to the Teno National Park and walk among the unique forests, climb to the top of the Teide volcano or walk along the bottom of the Masca Gorge. Comfortable shoes will definitely not be superfluous.
  • Water sports
El Medano in Tenerife is the center of surfing and kiting. Constantly blowing wind creates favorable conditions for boarding. And in the vicinity of the capital Santa Cruz there are several diving centers.
  • Excursions
Tenerife’s large selection of group or individual excursions can be overwhelming, so we recommend that you familiarize yourself with the best places to visit in advance.
  • Fishing
Fishing connoisseurs will be delighted with a boat trip to special stops where fishing is allowed and a lot of fish.

What is worth visiting in Tenerife?

• Teno National Natural Park
One of the main attractions of Tenerife is the beautiful Teno Park, which is located in the northwestern part of the island. Unique laurel forests have been preserved here, many animals and birds of endangered species live here.
The park has two tourist centers: El Portillo and Cañadas Blanca, here you can get information about hiking routes, flora and fauna of the island. Both centers are open from 9.00 to 16.00.

• Masca Gorge
Near Teno Park is the small village of Masca. It is from here that the hiking trail begins along the bottom of the picturesque gorge, which will lead you to the ocean. The round trip takes about 6 hours (7 km). Most tourists prefer to go only one way and return back by boat or car.

• Teide Volcano
The huge Teide volcano, which is located in the Teide Reserve of the same name, is a visiting card of the island of Tenerife. The height of the volcano reaches 3500m. We especially recommend climbing the volcano in spring; in April, unique endemic plants bloom on the slopes.

The higher you climb to the volcano, the more the landscape looks like Martian or lunar. This impression is strengthened by the huge fields of pumice. Thanks to the ethereal landscape, the Ucanca Valley often becomes a film set for Hollywood science fiction films. You can get to the top of the volcano by car, and then by funicular.

• Loro Parque Zoo

Considered to be the best zoo in Europe, its territory occupies 13.5 hectares. Loro Parque is located in Puerto de la Cruz in the north of Tenerife. The park combines a botanical and zoological garden, a zoo, an aquarium and a dolphinarium, an orchid garden, a museum of porcelain parrots and even a cinema.

Every day there are musical performances in different parts of the park: fur seals, dolphins, killer whales and parrots. The performance is included in the price of the park ticket. Be sure to visit the aquarium, which is located near the exit. Lots of marine life, including fearsome sharks, will swim right above your head through the glass tunnel.

Tigers and jaguars, chimpanzees and marmosets, a couple of sloths and red pandas, crocodiles and turtles, as well as many other charming animals live in tropical vegetation on the territory of Loro Parque.

• Siam Park Water Park

The largest water entertainment center Siam Park is located in the Costa Adeje resort. On an area of more than 185,000 sq. m. there are 15 water attractions: extreme water slides with sharp turns, a “lazy river” for those who love a relaxing holiday, and, of course, children’s slides. Some attractions are included in the book of records.

The park itself is very green and literally immersed in tropical plants. Getting there is easy – a free bus runs here from the southern resorts, the journey takes about 10 minutes. You can buy a ticket on the official website or at the entrance to the park. When buying a TWIN TICKET ticket for two parks (+ Loro Park), you can save 10 euros for adults and 6.5 euros for children.

• Güimar Pyramids
In the south-east of Tenerife, not far from the resort of Costa Adeje, there are 6 stepped pyramids. Around these mysterious pyramids there are still disputes. Scientists are sure that the pyramids are the result of the work of farmers, others are sure that the pyramids were used for ritual ceremonies.

• Beaches of Tenerife
Black volcanic beaches are the highlight of the Canary Islands. Due to the minerals and warmth it contains, volcanic beaches are considered beneficial for health and naturally treat many joint diseases. There are no private beaches on the island, so everyone can relax on the beach they like for free, including on the beaches near hotels. On the official beaches there are equipped showers, it is possible to rent an umbrella or a sunbed, lifeguards are on duty.

The largest beach with golden sand is located near the island’s capital, Las Teresitas Beach. The sand for this beach was brought by barges from the African Sahara. And the most popular beach in the south of Tenerife is Playa Arena, a volcanic black sand beach. For 20 years, this beach has been awarded a blue ribbon for cleanliness.

El Medano beach is a center for water sports. Many people call this bay a “surfer’s paradise”: a long coastline, incessant trade winds.
