Things to do in Playa Blanca during your villa holiday

Playa Blanca – from an idyllic fishermen’s village to a boutique destination

With so many things to do Playa Blanca soaks up more sun than anywhere else on the Canary Islands with clear, mild Atlantic water at the southern tip of Lanzarote just 30 minutes from the airport. Playa Blanca offers inviting conditions for holidays by the sea, enjoying the beautiful beaches, surrounded by still relatively untouched nature.

The town is enjoyed by families, couples, seniors and of course the locals of entertainment such as music and cocktail lounges, a wide variety of restaurants from the traditional, local Canarian to amazing freshly caught fish and chips to the Michelin star restaurants. The resort has built a stunning upmarket reputation by not attracting the partying / nightclub crowd who tend to go for resorts like Puerto del Carmen. Playa Blanca is in the Yaiza area of Lanzarote which has many attractions for the active and sporty but equally for those seeking relaxation and recuperation. Playa Blanca is a beautiful picturesque home to the stunning Marina Rubicon with its yachts bars and restaurants, the promenade stretches for miles and miles and is ideal for sunset strolls or sunrise stretches.

Playa Blanca’s beautiful beaches

The White Beach

Within walking distance of all our villas, you can find the stunning promenade, home to the small sandy bay of the same name which translates to “White Beach”. In this central location, the beach is lined with many restaurants, bars, shops, and the central life of Playa Blanca, ideal for spending some time watching the people go by in the sunshine. There are sanitary facilities nearby and showers on the beach.

Playa Dorada

Playa Dorada beach is just 200m from Playa Blanca beach and is a family beach with good facilities, this beach also has a watersports section for those looking for a more active holiday experience. Fine sand, calm water and ideal for children with sunbeds and umbrellas, Playa Dorada has 3 beach bars and restaurants with evening entertainment daily.
You will find all the amenities you would expect from an urban beach with sanitary facilities, showers, sunbeds, and a lifeguard.
Playa Dorada has even been awarded the Blue Flag distinction.

Playa Flamingo

About 10 minutes walk west of Playa Blanca along the promenade you reach the idyllic beach of Playa Flamingo which is a glorious sheltered cove. Both Villa Vista Rey and Villa Vista Reina are just a 10 minute walk from Playa Flamingo

A very beautiful fine sandy beach, with turquoise, calm water with restaurants and bars on its edges it is as popular in the evenings as it is during the day.

Playa Flamingo is also equipped with showers, toilets and sun loungers.

This is a regular spot for people training to dive.

Playas de Papagayo

Well worth the trip about 3km from Playa Blanca you could walk it but a car or taxi is probably best if you’re packing towels and beach gear for the family.
The Papagayo Beaches are natural and unique sandy beaches in the nature reserve “Los Ajaches” in the east of Playa Blanca. These beaches are definitely among the most beautiful on Lanzarote and are a must-see especially if you are staying in Playa Blanca.

There are different ways to reach the beautiful beaches:

On foot: You park at “Las Coloradas” and start a 30-minute walk over a hill from here. Not recommended if you have children with you as there is no protection from the sun. By the way: The city bus runs from the village of Playa Blanca to the “Las Coloradas” stop every 30 minutes.

By car: You follow a gravel road to one of the parking areas of the various bays and beaches (7 beaches in total).

There are a number of hilltop restaurants offering great food and cocktails overlooking the ocean and beaches of Papagayo.

Things to do in Playa Blanca

The Volcano Walk

Playa Blanca offers some beautiful walks near the villas. Enjoy a short hike up to Montaña Roja also known as Read Mountain. An impressive volcano that can be reached by foot from Playa Blanca. It is also possible to drive to the foot of the Volcano Walk and start your hike from here. Arriving at the top, you can enjoy the panoramic views over the Playa Blanca resort, the distant beaches, surrounding volcanic mountains and across to Fuerteventura island. The view is truly breathtaking from up there.

Kikoland

If you want to offer your children a programme, the Kikoland sports and family club in Playa Blanca is the place to go. Kikoland is a children’s park covering an area of over 10,000 m². With its sports and leisure facilities, Kikoland is an adventure paradise for children aged 0-18, where everyone can find age-appropriate entertainment.

Sports

In case you fancy a sporty, action-packed holiday in Playa Blanca, that is of course also possible. Thanks to Lanzarote’s climate, the island is popular for a range of sporting activities from surfing, kitesurfing and diving, to trekking, horse riding, and even triathlons. There are especially no limits to water sports here. The Windblue sports diving school in Playa Blanca offers amazing diving courses from beginner level to advanced. On the beach of Playa Dorada, you can find water sports also.

Many professional athletes choose the island as a destination where to do their training during part of the season, so there are plenty of indoor and outdoor facilities across the island.
Playa Blanca is home to Marina Rubicon which is home to a range of sports facilities. On Playa Blanca beach, between the centre and the Marina Rubicon port, the beaches are popular with various water sports equipment available for hire.

Explore the island on two wheels

Do you want to explore the beautiful countryside around Playa Blanca? There are numerous possibilities to rent a bicycle or electric bike for excursions. E-Scooters are a great way to get around the town quickly.

Playa Blancas culinary delights

Playa Blanca does not disappoint on the culinary side either. The village boasts a variety of different restaurants. Whether classic Spanish tapas, Italian specialities, burgers, fresh fish, steak, you will find everything you could wish for here.
In our guide, composed especially for our guests, you will find a selected list of the best restaurants and bars, based on our own experiences.

Marina Rubicon

Located between the beaches of Papagayo and Playa Blanca, Marina Rubicon is one of the best all-around yachting harbours on the island. Lined with yachts, boutique shops, restaurants and bars overlooking the water, it is a beautiful place to explore.

Want to explore more places around the island? Check out our Things to do in Lanzarote page to get even more inspiration for your holiday in Playa Blanca.

PLAYA BLANCA IN LANZAROTE, ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW

Playa Blanca is located in the southern part of Lanzarote on the Canary Islands. Although a quiet and peaceful fishing village not too long ago, Playa Blanca changed a lot over the years and became one of the main tourists area in Lanzarote.

Indeed, in ten years only this region has experienced a big rise for tourism. This growth can be explained by the proximity of Playa Blanca to a sublime coastline, its sunny sandy beaches and its idyllic setting. At the seafront there are many bars, luxury hotels, restaurants and shops. A real gem in Lanzarote!

Playa Blanca is located at about 30km from Lanzarote airport. One of the city’s latest addition is the Marina Rubicon. This area is found on the outskirts of the town not far from great restaurants and clothing shops. This area is luxurious and very pleasant with a state of the art Marina.

In this post we will let you know about what to do in Playa Blanca, the best places to stay and our overall opinion about Playa Blanca.

If you want to know more about Lanzarote, you can also check out the 25 best things to do on the island here. We also compiled the list of the top 10 beaches in Lanzarote here.

1. Check out the main beach, Playa Blanca

The name of Playa Blanca comes from the fact that in the middle of the city there is the main beach called Playa Blanca (located here). The beach is very beautiful with fine sands and quiet water. It’s the perfect spot to spend the day with the family.

However this is not our favorite beach in Playa Blanca. It is much smaller than the other ones in Playa Blanca. So we recommend 2 other beaches in Playa Blanca, check out the rest of the post to know more about it.

2. Playa Flamingo

Playa Flamingo is our favorite beach in Playa Blanca. It is much bigger than Playa Blanca and protected by breakwater. There are a few restaurants and shops right behind the beach, but it’s relatively quieter that Playa Blanca.

We recommend this beach if you are in Playa Blanca. This is one of the best beaches in Lanzarote.

Location: here

3. Playa Dorada

The last beach located in the center of Playa Blanca is called Playa Dorada. This beach is equally beautiful as Playa Flamingo. The great popularity of this beach is due to its locations near many hotels and because of the beautiful Caribbean-like water. An absolute pleasure for the eyes.

Location: here

4. Marina Rubicon

Marina Rubicón is one of the most complete marinas in Lanzarote. Set between Papagayo beach and Playa Blanca, Marina Rubicón is well protected from the strong winds. There are many really nice restaurants and bars facing the marina. It’s a great place to go in the evening.

There is also a market which takes place every Wednesday and Saturday with handicrafts items.

This place is a must-see if you travel to Lanzarote.

Location: here

Website: here

5. The underwater Museum

Museo Atlántico is the first underwater museum in Europe. It might not be for everyone, but Museo Atlántico is an underwater attraction unique in Europe and located just off the coast of Playa Blanca.

You can go underwater to see the beautiful statues, which have started to attract marine life and in doing so have revived the ecosystem around this part of the island of Lanzarote. If you love scuba diving, don’t miss this great experience in Playa Blanca!

Location: here

Website: here

6. Stroll along the waterfront promenade

Our favorite activity in Playa Blanca is to take long walks along the seafront promenade. You can actually walk for hours if you decide to go all the way to the west coast. There you will reach the Lighthouse called Faro de Punta Pechiguera Antiguo (location: here)

We love having lunch or dinner in one of the fish restaurants facing the sea. Order a paella or the fresh fish of the day, you won’t be disappointed. Our favorite area is behind beach Playa Blanca here. If you go one street parallel, you can also find many shops.

7. Aqualava Waterpark

This is an attraction that will delight the little ones. So if you are staying in Playa Blanca and you are looking for an activity to do with the family, Aqualava Waterpark would be a great choice. This water park has all you need for a full day of joy.

Location: here

Opening Hours: 10AM–5PM

Website: here

Admission: buy your ticket at cheaper price here.

Photo from Aqualava website.

8. Los Charcones

Los Charcones are natural swimming pools formed into the rocks. You can also swim in those pools or go snorkelling. It is advisable to be careful during your visit because the landscape of the site is covered with pebbles. This could be dangerous for children. However the area is really beautiful.

To get there you will need a car or to rent a bicycle. Hiking there from Playa Blanca is feasible, but it is not the nicest area to hike in Lanzarote.

Location: here

9. Los Hervideros

This site is one of the most beautiful places to visit in Lanzarote. You can see huge waves crashing onto the cliffs. To get there you will need a car, as it relatively far away from Playa Blanca. It is also a fantastic spot to watch sunset.

Location: here

Entrance: free

10. Visit Playa Papagayo

Papagayo is considered one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. It is located in a wild area on the southern tip, where you can find stretches of golden sand and turquoise water. To enjoy the wild beaches of Papagayo, you can access by car on a dirt road, by bicycle, on foot or by boat.

The term Papagayo beach is often used to describe the whole area. But the actual Papagayo beach is the last beach in the area which is a nice cove that seems to close in, creating a protected area (which is great when it’s windy). However there are other beautiful beaches in the area. You can discover them all in one day.

Our trip to Papagayo beach was one of the highlight during our stay in Lanzarote.

Location: here

For more information about Papagayo Beach, check out our full post here.

11. Take a boat trip from Playa Blanca

There are many boat tour starting from Playa Blanca. Some will sail around Playa Papagayo and stay there for a few hours. They provide lunch and many other equipments such as snorkels, kayaks or Stand-up Paddle boards. You can check it out here.

12. Take a day trip to Fuerteventura

Fuerteventura is the sister island of Lanzarote. It is only located 30min away from Lanzarote. There are many things to do in Fuerteventura which is more wild than Lanzarote.

Fuerteventura, with the red color of its land, its beaches as far as the eye can see, its blue and green waters, big waves, its arid landscape, is nicknamed “the African island”.

With the ferry (which you can book here) you will arrive in Corralejo, the second city of the island which was originally a small fishing village. Today, it is a tourist hotspot of Fuerteventura, where the famous dunes of the Natural Park of Corralejo – El parque natural de Corralejo – are located.

This site offers a paradisiacal arid landscape made up of the erosion of shells and other marine organisms: a small Sahara where you can find wide open spaces and tranquility. The dunes are bordered by sublime beaches of fine white sand. It’s a favorite ground for lovers of windsurfing, surfing, kitesurfing and also nudists.

Strolling there on foot along the ten kilometers of beaches and dunes is one of the essentials when visiting Fuerteventura.

The ferry leaves from Lanzarote every 30min or 1h. You can catch the ferry here. There are 3 different companies to choose from, you can book your ticket online here.

Here we listed the 25 best things to see in Fuerteventura, check it out.

14. Best activities in Playa Blanca

1. Scuba Diving

Start your vacation in Lanzarote with a scuba diving session. This is an opportunity to discover the island’s marine world. The island offers a great diversity of underwater species. To discover the best diving spots, leave from Playa Blanca or Puerto del Carmen.

If you’ve never scuba-dived before, a guide will explain the right steps to take to swim underwater. If you are already an expert and have your PADI, you will be able to rent equipment to explore the depths of the Atlantic.

To book, click here

2. Jetski

If you have never tried Jetski before, Lanzarote is a good place to try. You can rent a Jetski directly on the beach of Playa Dorada or you can also book here.

3. Dolphins watching tour

There are many dolphins around the Canary Islands. You can join a mini cruise to see them. Check it out here.

4. Kayak and Snorkelling trip

If you want to explore the sea in a complete different way, join a kayak tour which also offer snorkelling opportunity around Papagayo beach. You can find out more about it here.

Where to stay in Playa Blanca?

Hotel The Volcan Lanzarote

If your budget allows, then we highly recommend Hotel The Volcan in Playa Blanca. This hotel is located right by Marina Rubicon with many restaurants and bars around. The beach is just a few minutes walk. This hotel has a very large swimming pool and offer excellent breakfast. You can check it out here.

Iberostar

This hotel has a breathtaking view, directly facing the ocean. Iberostar has 3 large swimming pool, including 1 dedicated for kids only. The beach is located just a few minutes walk from the hotel. In front of the hotel, you have the famous Playa Blanca promenade with restaurants and bars along the way. We absolutely love this place. You can book here.

Ona Las Casita

If you are a little bit more on a budget, then we recommend Ona Las Casita. This lovely bungalow is perfectly located near the beach and the main promenade at Playa Blanca. The bungalow has a kitchen, so you can cook at home to save a bit of money. The place was super clean when we stayed there and we ate pretty much every day on the outdoor terrace. We love this place which has the perfect value for money. Book it here.

For other areas to stay in Lanzarote check out this post. We list the top places to stay on the island.

Our favorite restaurants in Playa Blanca

Casa Joaquín: right behind Playa Flamingo, you can find Casa Joaquín, a great spanish restaurant with amazing paella on the menu. This restaurant is directly facing the beach in a very nice setting. During lunch time they offer lighter meal such as Tuna Salad or a variety of sandwiches. Location: here

Restaurante Playa Blanca: for the best Sangria in Playa Blanca, head to Restaurante Playa Blanca here. We tried their tapas with 1L of Sangria. We absolutely loved it although we could barely walk home after all that Sangria…

Playa Dorada Lanzarote: for the perfect sunset drink, head to Playa Dorada Bar and Restaurant right behind Playa Dorada. It’s the go-to spot to watch sunset. Location: here

Our opinion about Playa Blanca

If you are wondering where to stay in Lanzarote, we highly recommend Playa Blanca. For us it the best spot on the island. Although it is touristic, Playa Blanca kept a certain charm. The hotels are relatively small and blend nicely with the rest of Lanzarote. The coast is also beautiful with a fabulous seafront promenade.

In addition Playa Blanca is located near some of the main attractions such as Timanfaya National Park, the wine road, El Golfo, Playa Papagayo etc.. It is also the starting point to check out Fuerteventura and an awesome diving spot.

Stay in Playa Blanca or at least come and visit during your stay in Lanzarote, you won’t regret it.

THINGS TO DO IN LANZAROTE PLAYA BLANCA (AND BEYOND)

The Canary Islands are the perfect destination for a family holiday. Whether you are travelling with kids or alone there are plenty of things to do in Lanzarote near Playa Blanca and around the compact Island.  And Playa Blancahas regular Ferries to Fuerteventura meaning you have another one of the Canaries to explore right on your doorstep.

Lanzarote is my top pick of the Canary Islands. Read on to find out why.

1. Playa Flamingo Beach

With it’s white sand beache and crystal clear waters Playa Flamingo is one of the best beaches on Lanzarote. The beach is protected by a breakwater on both sides keeping the waters calm and providing shelter from the wind. Fish can be seen in the clean waters and it is a perfect place to try snorkeling.

Sunbeds are available for hire and there is also room to sit on the sand and build sandcastles. A number of restaurants sit above the beach on the promenade and there is a well stocked supermarket here too if you want to have a budget friendly picnic.

You can reach Playa Flamingo by biking or walking from Playa Blanca down the sea front promenade. By car you can park on the street and access the walkway from either side of the Tui Flamingo Beach Resort.

2. Playa Blanca Beach

This is the main beach from which the area gets it’s name. The small beach is very central and just off the main streets of Playa Blanca. It is a pleasant and popular beach and because of this can be busy at times.

3. Playa Dorada Beach

Playa Dorado beach is east of Playa Blanca and still very central. There are more watersports options here as well as fitness equipment perched up the cliff over looking the beach, an incredibly picturesque place to have a workout.

There are sunbeds for hire as well as many options for meals and refreshments.4. Walk the Playa Blanca Promenade.

The almost 10 km paved walk-way runs from Faro de Pechiguera light house in the west all the way through Playa Blanca and past Marina Rubicon in the East. The pedestrian only path is easily accessible for walkers and runners as well as for push-chairs, wheel-chairs and bikes.

The path runs along the waterfront. Heading westward craggy black volcanic cones can be seen to the right with rocking beaches to the left. Pedestrians heading East will pass sandy beaches and have a view across the ocean to nearby Fuerteventura.

There are plenty of places along the promenade to stop for refreshments or a meal. The walk can be extended further by taking the un-paved path all the way to Playa Papagayo.

5. Timanfaya National Park

Timanfaya is the largest national park on Lanzarote. The volcanic park was created during a huge eruption in between 1730 and 1736, Lava flows covered the landscape in think black rock. The area is still active today and the Mars-like landscape can be visited on bus.

Buses leave from the main visitor centre, the carpark can get full during peak times so it is best to visit before 11am or after 2pm. Around the visitors centre you will also see geysers and food being cooked over the heat of the earth.

6. Cueva De Los Verdes

This cave formed by a Lava tube can be visited as part of a guided tour. The multilingual guide will take you 1km into the cave with an interesting commentary about the history and geography of the area.

7. Papagayo

Papagayo is west of Playa Blanca and can be reached by car or by walking around the coastline. The beaches here are more secluded and less touristy, although also popular with nudists.

8. Visit the Sand dunes in Fuerteventura

Regular Ferries make the short trip from Playa Blanca to the seaside port town of Corralejo in Fuerteventura. While there is public transport on the Island the quicker and more convenient way to visit some of the sights is to hire a car. Cicar car hire has an office at the ferry terminal. I love that everything is included in the price, full insurance, GPS and kids car seats all come as part of the fee, no hidden costs and super quick pick up and drop off.

Just South of the town of Corralejo you’ll find the 11km sand dunes of Parque Natural de las Dunas de. The fine yellow sand stretches on one side of the road down to the azure waters of the ocean. On the other towards the volcanic landscape in the distance.

The blue flag beach is patrolled by lifeguards and its calm waters are inviting for swimmers. The is an area for windsurfing and kite-boarding.

With kilometers of sand there is plenty of space to lay and enjoy the serenity and beauty of the area, small brick shelters along the beach provide some protection from the persistent wind.

Venture across the road and away from the beach to be even more secluded and even spot some of the wildlife, lizards, rabbits, goat and camels can be seen here.

Local companies run horse-riding, camel-riding and quad biking around the dunes and along the beach.

A regular bus runs to the dunes. As the dunes are so large it is best to take your own water and snacks if you plan to spend some time there.

One of the main reasons we visited Lanzarote was for some winter sun. Lanzarote turned out to be so much more than just a sunshine holiday and we fell in love with this Island.

Before we visited the Canary Islands all I had heard was that they were touristy, tacky and windy. Well it was windy at times but Lanzarote was far from touristy and the Island has done an excellent job of preserving its heritage and protecting itself from over development (Fuerteventura didn’t do so well in this regard).

Full of Spanish culture, beautiful beaches, dramatic volcanic landscapes and endless ocean it was the perfect holiday destination especially for an active family like ours.

BEACHES OF PLAYA BLANCA

The name of the resort Playa Blanca is translated from Spanish as “White Beach”. Partly it is. Three main beaches within the city limits will delight tourists with light sand and calm waves, while a significant part of the six-kilometer coastline of the resort is occupied by rocks.

In the very center of the resort, in the so-called “old village” there is a natural beach, the name of which obviously did not take long to come up with – 1 Playa Blanca . The beach is quite small and not very interesting. Well, except for the fact that you can be on it just by taking one step from the restaurant table on the busy embankment.
But to the east of it is a spacious beach 2 Playa Dorada , well protected by breakwaters. Everything is already here, like on a real beach: umbrellas and sun loungers, water activities, walking hand in hand along the surf line.

A similar beach, only smaller, is located in the western part of Playa Blanca and is called 3 Playa Flamingo . It is also fenced off from the ocean by breakwaters, man-made and has a traditional set of services.

015 You can get to Playas de Papagayo either on foot from Playa Blanca or by car on a dirt road. The beaches are located on the territory of the natural park, therefore, tourists will have to pay for entry by car – 3 € for four wheels. But the locals swim and sunbathe for free.

Playas de Papagayo is without a doubt the jewel of the island. Coves with emerald water, light sand, picturesque surroundings, no signs of urbanization. Although there are good private beaches within the city limits of all the main resorts of Lanzarote, many people prefer to come here. Which, however, is not at all surprising.

FKK The customs on the beaches of Playas de Papagayo are democratic, that’s why they are “wild”: it’s not customary to force anyone only in two bays to the right and left of the cliff with a cafe. For more information (in English) see here.

ISLANDS

Playa Blanca – Photo and description of the resort

The Canary Islands have long been among tourists and not only popular. Not in vain, many people have the question: “where would you like to relax?” the answer would be “in the Canaries”. Lanzarote is one of the islands of the archipelago. So if the dream is the Canary Islands, then welcome to one of the resorts of Lanzarote – Playa Blanca.

Once it was a small village of fishermen. Today, in its place is a chic resort. Playa Blanca is the third largest tourist center of the island. He began to build up not so long ago. Building is going on now.

The resort is located at the southernmost point of the island.

Transport connection

On the island of Lanzarote, where Playa Blanca is located, there is an airport. There are no non-stop flights from Moscow. You can fly directly from the capital of Russia to the Canary Islands only with a landing in Tenerife. And this option will not be the worst, because between the islands of the Canary archipelago, the communication of local airlines is quite developed. You can still get to Gran Canaria, from where Lanzarote should also have a direct flight to Tenerife.

{module AviasalesInText}

Not very popular, but there is another option to be on a sunny Spanish island: make a transfer in one of the European cities. Flights to Lanzarote follow from Amsterdam, London, Berlin, Madrid, etc.

The airport is located 5 km from the capital of the island. You can get from the landing site to Arrecife (the capital of the island) by bus, and from there to Blanca by taxi.

Climate

The Canary Islands are notable for the fact that you can relax here all year round. This resort is no exception. However, the best time to visit is the end of July – October. Lanzarote is located close to the African continent, and therefore is dominated by the trade winds. And in the summer it is especially noticeable. In addition, from time to time harmattan waves come from the Sahara – with this wind, the heat of the desert is felt on the island, often along with sand.

The coldest months fall at the beginning of the year, when the thermometer shows 17-19 degrees. At the peak of the season, the air warms up to 25-27 degrees. In the high season, the water temperature in the ocean is 23-24 degrees, in the low season – 18-19 degrees.

Hotels

The resort is pleased to offer tourists a variety of accommodation options. You can stay in a hotel, apartment, villa – there are 162 options to choose from. And the level of service is high. At the same time, it practically does not depend on the number of stars on the facade. Excellent reviews are left by travelers about both 4- and 5-star hotels, as well as those of a lower level. For example, Bungalows Coloradamar, Iberostar Lanzarote Park are popular among tourists.

If you want to splurge, then the 5-star Princesa Yaiza Suite Hotel Resort, Hesperia Playa Dorada, h20 Lanzarote Princess from the 4 * category will be just an excellent option. The h20 White Suites boutique hotel is very interesting, but it should be considered only if the holiday is planned without children.

Overview of the beach area

There are six beaches in the resort. There are three within the city limits. The total complexity of the equipped beach area is 655 meters. It includes Playa Blanka (100m), Playa Flamingo (225m), Playa Dorada (300m). Bathing on them will be calm and serene. The waves are small, which contributes to a comfortable stay, including with children. Light sand on all three justifies the name of the entire resort.

In the city center is Playa Blanka. The beach is quite small in size, its width is only 20m. Not equipped with sun loungers and umbrellas. In fact, it’s just an embankment, where it is constantly crowded and noisy. It fits the expression: at hand, because you can find yourself on the beach, taking only one step from the cafe, where you just drank a cocktail or ate ice cream.

Two other beaches are much more spacious. The width of Playa Flamingo, which is located in the western part of the city, is 40 meters. To the east is Playa Dorada with a width of 35m. Both have a full range of recreation services – sun loungers, umbrellas, water activities, walking paths, etc.

Three more beaches are not equipped with beach attributes at all, so they are not in demand among tourists. Playa Los Colorados does not receive attention either. But the “wild” Playas de Papagayo are considered the real highlight of the island and the Playa Blanka resort in particular. This is a chain of several beaches, each with its own name. The lack of civilization leaves an imprint on pastime: hunters rush here to sunbathe in what my mother gave birth to. Only two places – on both sides of the cliff, at the foot of which there is a cafe – a territory where you can not force.

Infrastructure

There are restaurants, bars, cafes and shops along the entire length of the embankment. The embankment is wide enough, so there are plenty of places for shopping. Among the attractions are the 18th century fort – Castillo de las Coloradas.

The lack of crowds of tourists and noisy new establishments contribute to a quiet and relaxing holiday, so it is suitable for families with children. It is from this resort of the island that the ferry leaves for Fuerteventura, where you can go diving.

October can be called the velvet season, when precipitation is not expected, air and water temperatures are high, which allows you to fully enjoy all the delights of a beach holiday.

hotels, beaches, sea, entertainment and excursions. Attractions, entertainment and shopping in Puerto del Carmen

There are no direct flights to this amazing island from our country, but if you get to Madrid or Barcelona and take the time to fly to the capital of the island of Lanzarote – Arrecife, your efforts will be fully rewarded. Possible inconvenience during the transfer and the time spent in the airliner’s seat – everything will be erased as soon as you find yourself in this fabulous place.

Lunar landscapes will captivate you from the first moment.

Lanzarote is a reserve of volcanoes.
The combination of beaches, modern civilization and a range of volcanic cones cannot leave indifferent even the most sophisticated travelers.

So, after landing, getting to your destination will not be difficult – bus service between the resort places of Lanzarote is well established.
It is also convenient to move around the island by renting a car.

Kitchen and restaurants

Island cuisine is a combination of Spanish spice and Mexican spiciness, invariable seafood and British breakfast rolls. For every taste you can find a menu in Lanzarote. If you want to taste traditional Canarian dishes, the best choice is to visit the restaurant “Volcan de la Corona”.

Grilled fresh meat and fragrant vegetables, all kinds of stews – all with a view of the Corona volcano.

Cozy, homely, with a patio – you will return to this establishment more than once.

For lovers of Mediterranean cuisine who want to taste luxuriously cooked seafood, dinner at Isla de Lobos will be a real gastronomic shock. But don’t forget to book a table at this exclusive venue and make sure you dress appropriately.

If you’re staying in Puerto del Carmen or you’re on a tour there, stop by for a pizza bite at Caffe Italia Pizzeria – you won’t regret it.

Lanzarote Attractions

The island itself is a tourist attraction. As a result of numerous lava eruptions, it is completely devoid of flora, but three hundred volcanic peaks and colored fields of solidified lava make such a strong impression that you can be sure that you will not forget this place in a lifetime.

You can enjoy these views in full in the Timanfaya National Reserve, which is located in the western part of the island.

The Cueva de los Verdes cave is a must to visit.
Formed as a result of an eruption and having a depth of 6 km, it is a unique monument of nature. And in one of its halls there is a concert hall – natural acoustics strikes the imagination of visitors.

The cactus garden will be interesting for both children and adults. You will not see such bizarre plants anywhere in the world.

Entertainment

As on any island, all kinds of water sports are popular on Lanzarote. Windsurfing, snorkelling, scuba diving, as well as other types of active pastime: hang gliding, karting, golf, horseback riding – all these and other types of recreation are developed in Lanzarote.

And if you are lucky enough to visit Lanzarote at the end of June, on International Surfing Day (24.06) an unforgettable performance awaits you.

In addition, the island has four large entertainment centers where you can spend time with the whole family.

The Canary Island of Lanzarote is a unique place, and if you happen to be there, the desire to return there will not leave you until you realize it.

Lanzarote – an island in the Canary Islands, province of Las Palmas

A place that combines mesmerizing volcanic landscapes, innumerable opportunities for outdoor activities, amazing Mediterranean cuisine – this is one of the islands of the Canary archipelago – Lanzarote.

The unique atmosphere of Lanzarote is fundamentally different from the tropical paradise reigning on other islands of the Canary archipelago. Its volcanic landscapes evoke strong associations of being on another planet or in a fantasy world inhabited by unknown inhabitants. And the majority is sights of Lanzarote
only reinforce the initial impressions.
The most famous place on the island is Timanfaya – a national park that amazes tourists with lunar-Martian landscapes and an incredible number of volcanoes located in a small area. Few people will be left indifferent by a lunch in a restaurant above the mouth of a volcano and a fire show arranged for visitors. The legacy of ancient eruptions are the inimitable galleries of the underground caves of Los Verdes and Jameos, whose bizarre forms frighten and fascinate. The skill of the legendary architect Cesar Manrique turned one of them into a unique natural and architectural complex with an artificial lagoon and an underground concert hall. Other creations of the master are no less interesting: the Mirador del Rio observation deck, a luxurious cactus garden and the former architect’s house, harmoniously integrated into the volcanic landscape.

The Canary Islands have long been rightfully considered a place of elite recreation. The islands are washed by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean and consist of 7 large and several small islands.

Island of Volcanoes

The fourth largest island in the Canary archipelago Lanzarote is called the “island of volcanoes”
. It is complex, like a bizarre mosaic, of unique multi-tiered caves, beaches, plantations of vineyards, cacti and, of course, the sun. Scientists suggest that the age of the island is approximately 15 million years. This is the easternmost island of the Canarian archipelago, located about 125 km from the coast of Africa and 1000 km from the Iberian Peninsula.

The island got its name from the Genoese merchant Lancelotto Malocello, who arrived on the island in the 14th century. The coastline of the island stretches for 213 km, of which 10 km are covered with sand, and the rest is a rocky coast. The beach is located at 16.5 km. Extravagant mountain ranges were formed after numerous eruptions and lava flows that spread along the slopes, giving them bizarre shapes.

The demon is the emblem of the island
. This is explained by the fact that the first inhabitants of the island perceived the volcanic eruptions as the work of the devil. The largest recorded eruptions occurred between 1730 and 1736.

During 2.053 days of eruptions, lava covered ¼ of the surface of the entire island, including the most fertile soil, and buried 11 villages under it. The island was actually deprived of forest cover and only succulents and lichens managed to take root in Lanzarote. The drought that affected the island in 1768 and the lack of rain during the winter led to the emigration of the population to America and Cuba.

The next volcanic eruption occurred in 1824, but in terms of its strength it was less destructive than the main one. But it also led to the exodus of the indigenous population. Today, the island has about 140,000 inhabitants, 73.9% of which are Spaniards.

Since 1927, Lanzarote, along with another Canary Island – Fuerteventura, became part of the Las Palmas region and was territorially divided into seven municipalities:

  1. Arrecife,
  2. San Bartolome,
  3. Haria,
  4. Tias,
  5. Yaisa,
  6. Tinaho,
  7. Teguise, which includes Isla de la Graciosa and four small islets, which also include Taiche.

Tenerife – a detailed guide to the Spanish island of eternal spring and not all parents want to tire their little ones.A good alternative is a holiday in mainland Spain, our review tells.

The capital of the island Arrecife owes its name to a mountain reef
, which is why Aressife is translated from Spanish as “reef”. The streets of the city reflect the unique maritime character and literally breathe history.

The first mention of Arrecife dates back to the 15th century, when this city was still a small fishing village. Black volcanic reefs, behind which boats hid, protected fishermen from sudden pirate attacks. In the XVI century. the settlement began to grow actively, and the first church dedicated to the first bishop of San Gines was erected on its territory.

The city became the capital in 1852 and such major industries as tourism and agriculture are actively developing on its territory.

Arrecife is home to the city beach of Reducto, a castle of San José built in the 17th century. and which today houses a collection of modern art, as well as the castle of San Gabriel.

The tallest building on the island – Gran Hotel Arrecife
is located in the city next to the harbour. The city has several malls and the main street of the shopping district.

Of course, not the capital of the island is attractive for tourists, but resort centers
:

  • Costa Teguise;
  • Puerto del Carmen, in the suburbs of which the resort village of Puerto Calero is located;
  • New tourist center in the south – Playa Blanca.

PUERTO DEL CARMEN

The tourist center is located on the southeast coast of the island and stretches along the ocean for 7 km.

You can get to Puerto del Carmen from the airport by bus
. Arrecife Bus provides regular transport links.
The ticket price is negligible – approximately 1.50€.

You can also use the services of the competing company Bono Bus, which will cost you 1.20€ to get to the oldest resort.

Buying Bono Bus magnetic cards
, save 20% on travel.

Taxi service for visitors. The fare depends on the time of day
. So from 6:00 to 22:00 you can get to Puerto del Carmen for approximately 15 €, from 22:00 to 6:00 – for 18 €.

Once a small resort village in just 20 years has turned into a resort town, receiving from 30,000 tourists annually. A significant part of the city is occupied by natural spacious sandy beaches.

Puerto del Carmen Beaches

Playa Grande or Playa Blanca

Ideal for families with children
, as it is covered with golden sand, there are no winds here, the waters of the ocean are calm and the shore canopy. Its length is 900m, maximum width – 100m. On the beach there is a rental of umbrellas and sun loungers, a shower and a wide range of water activities.

Playa de los Pocillos

The golden sandy beach is just above sea level, so the tides leave small “lakes”. Previously, sea salt was mined here by the old method of evaporation in the sun.

This is the longest and widest beach in the resort. Its length is 1.600m, the maximum width is 170m (at low tide it can reach 200m). Because of the winds, it is not so attractive for families with children. On its territory there is a rental of sun loungers and umbrellas, a shower, but there are no water activities here.

Playa Matagorda

The golden sandy beach gently starts from Playa de los Pocillos and ends at the Beatriz Playa hotel. It is also windy, its length is 1.000m, the maximum width is 60m. Umbrellas with sun loungers and showers are provided for vacationers. There are no water activities.

Playa Fariones and Playa Chica

They are not intended for beach lovers, because here the entrance to the water is obstructed by stones. But is a favorite spot for divers.
. There is a dive center that teaches mainly beginner divers. The beach is 140m long and 25m wide. On the beach, covered with light sand and stones, there are no sun loungers with umbrellas and water activities, but the shower works properly.

Attractions, entertainment and shopping in Puerto del Carmen

The resort has many restaurants, including fish restaurants, offering exquisite Canarian cuisine, bars that entertain visitors every evening with simple show programs, discos and casinos. The port offers an exciting boat trip or fishing in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Around the harbor is the “Old Town”, which has retained the atmosphere of a fishing village.

In the evening, tourists stroll along Avenida de las Playas, the main thoroughfare of the resort. There are many small shops offering mainly beach assortment and souvenirs.

But the resort town also has more significant stores, as well as branded boutiques Diesel, Lacoste, etc. The largest new shopping center on the entire island, Biosfera Plaza, is located in Puerto del Carmen.

In the evening you can visit the Music Hall Tavern – an eccentric cabaret with a vulgar but funny program
. The bulk of visitors are tourists from foggy Albion.

In the second half of May, international triathlon competitions are held annually in Puerto del Carmen. Marching athletes arriving on the island to compete in cross-country, cycling and swimming are solemnly greeted by numerous spectators on Avenida de las Playas. An important sporting event is covered in all local media.

At the end of July, Fiesta de Carmen is celebrated on a large scale – a holiday honoring the heavenly patroness of the city. The city is festively decorated with garlands, colorful banners, flags and balloons.

The fun lasts until the morning, introducing numerous tourists to traditional folklore performances, dances and other entertainment. For this holiday, fishing boats are festively decorated so that at the climax they go to the ocean in a long line. Residents of the city at the end of the holiday pray for good catches next year.

Hotels Puerto del Carmen

There are few hotels on the vast territory of the resort. Mostly apartments are offered, of which there are over 200.

Among the 4-star hotels worthy of attention:

  • Seaside Los Jameos Playa;
  • Las Costas;
  • ClubHotel Riu Paraiso Lanzarote.

Among the 3 stars you can stay at:

  • Apartamentos Barcarola Club;
  • Costa Sal Apartments;
  • La Penita Apartments and others

2-star hotels are also ready to offer neat rooms and good service:

  • HG Guacimeta;
  • Jable Bermudas Apartments;
  • Plaza Azul and many more.

COSTA TEGUIS

The second largest tourist center
is located in the east of the island.

From Lanzarote Airport you can reach the resort in just 15 minutes by using the bus (ticket price 1.15 €, travel by Bono Bus will cost 0.92 €) or taxi (from 6.00 to 22.00 – 20 €, from 22.00 to 6.00 – 24€).

The resort has no history of turning a fishing village into a beautiful city. It was created artificially on an uninhabited stretch of coast about 40 years ago. The coast is always windy, so Costa Teguise has become a favorite destination for windsurfers and kiters.

Beaches Costa Teguise

Costa Teguise has 5 beaches:

Las Cucharas

Translated from Spanish, the name translates as “spoons”. The length of the beach, covered with fine light sand, is 700m, the width is 60m. On the beach, guests can rent umbrellas and sun loungers, showers.

There are no water activities, so for the impressions of walking on the ocean and catching exotic fish, you will have to go to the nearby Puerto del Carmen or its suburb – Puerto Calero. The beach was chosen by windsurfers, as a moderate wind does not stop blowing even for a minute.

But near the Melia Salinas, the wind is calmer, so the waves are calmer, and beach lovers are already basking in the sun on a wider beach.

Playa de los Charcos

Windy beach with fine light sand. Entry into the waters of the ocean is hampered by stones. But the beach, with a length of 310m and a width of 30m, is protected from the waves. There are water activities, umbrellas with sun loungers and showers.

El Jabillo

The length of the rocky beach in some places is 180m, the width is 20m. The waves are low here. Near the beach is the Grand Teguise Playa Hotel. There is no entertainment and soul, only the rental of sun loungers and umbrellas works.

Playa Bastian

Differs from the rest in darker sand. There are few vacationers here, since entry into the ocean is difficult due to the rocky descent. The length of the western beach is 300m, its maximum width is 35m.

Playa Ancla

A small nice and cozy beach with a length of 120m and a width of 30m, visited mainly by guests of nearby hotels. There are no water activities, a shower, and even rental of umbrellas with sun loungers. Nearby is the residence of the King of Spain.

Attractions and activities Costa Teguise

The center of Costa Teguise is centered around Pueblo Marinero, an ornamental fishing village designed by Cesar Manrique. Also, according to the project of Manrique, ordered by King Hussein of Jordan, one of the four residences of the King of Spain, La Mareta, was built. She was presented by Hussein to the Spanish king Juan Carlos as a wedding gift.

La Mareta is a rather modest building, on the territory of which there is a helipad. The residence is carefully guarded, and curious tourists are not allowed to enter here.

Costa Teguise has numerous bars and restaurants
, and once a week on Fridays there is a market where they sell clothes, cheap jewelry and souvenirs. Those who wish can go with specially organized flights from Costa Teguise to a huge market in the city of Teguise, which takes place on Sundays.

You can buy original handmade souvenirs in the market
craftsmen. After shopping in the administrative capital of the coast, you can stroll around the city – the old capital of the island with a long history.

The settlement was named Teguise after the daughter of the last native king who lived in the 15th century. One of the streets of the city is called “Bloody” in memory of the events when most of the inhabitants were brutally killed in one of the numerous raids of pirates.

Also, the fortress on Mount Castillo de Santa Barbara is named after its owner, who was canonized for the fact that she was martyred without giving the pirates a place of refuge for her servants. She is the patroness of the city, and Spanish Catholics always commemorate her day in churches.

Among the interesting objects is the Spinoza Palace, which was originally the residence of the Governor-General, and then passed to later owners – merchants from Genoa.

The palace is now a museum and its ornate interior impresses visitors. It is also worth visiting one of the oldest churches in the Canary Islands, the Nuestra Señora de Guadelupe church, and then strolling along the stone-paved streets with numerous sights.

– plan your vacation time correctly to get the most out of your vacation.

Pro Canarian cuisine
with an abundance of the freshest seafood and vegetables.

Tenerife’s most popular resort – Playa de las Americas
. We talk about the history of the resort, hotels, beaches, shopping and entertainment.

But even in the resort of Costa Teguise there is still a lot of entertainment. This and are a great course for golf fans.
, which became the first on the entire island of Lanzarote.

This and aquarium, which attracts visitors with a glass tunnel with sharks
and 33 separate aquariums, the last of which is an almost instructive visual of how human waste is polluting the ocean. Filled with a variety of garbage, it makes people think about a more careful attitude to nature.

In the largest aquarium with a volume of 400,000 liters, scuba diving is possible Wednesdays and Fridays from 9:00 to 14:00, swim with a 2-meter cat shark
and with other inhabitants of the ocean.

Experienced instructors provide a detailed briefing, and the dive itself takes 20 minutes. Pleasure is not cheap – approximately 130 €.

Those who did not find enough water activities in Costa Teguise can go to Aquapark Costa Teguise
.

It provides entertainment for visitors of all ages, but especially the organizers focused on entertainment for children.

So, in Zona Infantil – “Children’s Zone” you can frolic on a huge inflatable “Castle of Games” (Castillo de Juegos) and have fun sliding down colorful slides of various colors and shapes in El lago infantil – “Lake for Children”.

“Children’s Park” (Ocio Infantil) is decorated with all sorts of funny caricatures and equipped with innumerable trampolines.

Adults can compete in car races on the 8 sendas (“8 tracks”) attraction, appreciate the steep turns of the Turbolancha diapositiva tubular high-speed tube, and extreme sportsmen can feel the adrenaline rush into the blood after descending the Kamikaze slide.

The water park is open all year round from 10:00 to 18:00, but it is not recommended for children to visit in winter, as the pools are not equipped with water heating systems. Entrance for kids under 2 years old is free, for children under 12 years old a ticket will cost 16 €, for adults – 22.5 €.

Hotels Costa Teguise

On the coast of Costa Teguise there is a worthy choice of hotels of all categories.

Gran Melia Salinas&The Garden Villas should be mentioned among 5 stars
– an icon of the cultural heritage of Lanzarote, designed by the architect Fernando Higueras and the famous artist Cesar Manrique, where the minimum cost per night per room will start from 129€. The territory of the exclusive luxury hotel is equipped with sports fields, high fashion boutiques, SPA and much more.

Among the 4 stars you can opt for:

  • Barcelo Lanzarote Resort;
  • Beatriz Costa&Spa;
  • Luabay Lanzarote Beach Family Hotel with lots of entertainment;
  • Marinas Club Resort and others.

3 star hotels such as:

  • Barcelo La Galea;
  • El Trebol;
  • Galeon Playa;
  • h20 Lanzarote Gardens, located 200m from the Playa de las Cucharas beach, and many others offer high service at quite attractive prices.

PLAYA BLANCA

The third largest and most important resort center
was once a quiet fishing village.

You can reach the resort, stretching along the ocean for several kilometers, in 35 minutes by bus (ticket price 3.15 €, with Bono Bus – 2.52 €) or taxi (estimated cost from 6:00 to 22:00 – 30€, from 22:00 to 6:00 – 36€).

You can also immediately rent a car at the airport. But we advise you in advance, so there will be fewer unpleasant surprises upon arrival.

May not be the right model, or will only be on a manual box when you’re used to an automatic. In addition, there are almost always good discounts for online booking
.

There are numerous restaurants and bars in the resort area. There are 2 ports, from one of which you can cross with a car on the Fred Olsen Express high-speed ferry to the neighboring island of Fuerteventura. It will take only 12 minutes, and now you can enjoy the sights and beauties of another Canary island.

Marina Rubicon is the second port of the Playa Blanca resort, which even has its own emblem. The most expensive and luxurious snow-white yachts moor here.

Playa Blanca Beaches

Near the new elegant and promising resort are Playas de Papagayo – the most beautiful wild beaches of the island
. Picturesque landscapes around bays with emerald water, light fine-grained sand attract local residents from all over the island.

Playas de Papagayo is a chain of beaches with such names as Playa del Congrio, Playa del Pozo (closest to Playa Blanca), Playa de Papagayo, Playa de la Cera, etc.

Since they are all located on the territory of the national park, if you travel by car, you must pay 3€.

Playa Blanca is translated from Spanish as “white beach”
, which is confirmed by the pleasant, like silk, white sand. There are 3 main beaches within the city limits.

Playa Blanca

Small natural beach with a length of only 100m and a maximum width of 20m, located in the very center of the resort, just a step away from the busy promenade. On its territory there are no sun loungers with umbrellas and water activities, but the shower works properly.

Playa Dorada

Spacious beach, which is 330m long and 35m wide, is located in the eastern part of the resort and is perfectly protected from high waves by breakwaters. Everything is provided for a wonderful beach holiday: sun loungers, umbrellas, showers and numerous water activities.

Playa Flamingo

Located in the western part of the resort center. Length – 225m, width – 40m. Low waves are caused by breakwaters, and the beach has everything you need for a good rest.

In addition to these beaches, there is also Playa Las Coloradas and 3 undeveloped beaches, where sand alternates with stones.

Hotels Playa Blanca

Playa Blanca has the widest choice of hotels.

Among 4 stars you can choose:

  • One of the largest hotels in the city – h20 Rubicón Palace;
  • Aparthotel Rubimar Suite;
  • Hesperia Playa Dorada.

There are a lot of 3-star hotels, among them the most popular are:

  • Elba Lanzarote Royal Village Resort;
  • Boutique Hotel h20 White Suites – adults only.

Closest to Playa Blanca than to the rest of Lanzarote resorts, in the south is Timanfaya National Park
. At the entrance to the park, those who wish can ride on camels. On the territory of the park you can see the magnificent creations of nature – many volcanic grottoes
and various tectonic structures.

If fate has given the opportunity to come to rest in Lanzarote, then you should definitely visit the north of the island, where a special microclimate has developed that has turned the zone into the greenest place on the island – the Valley of a Thousand Palm Groves
.

Unique fire palms with leaves resembling flames grow in the Grove, as well as beautiful tropical plants. There are two grottoes in the mouth of the volcano, the cave of Los Jameos del Agua and de Los Verdes.

Worked again in Jameo del Agua Grand Master Cesar Manrique
, building steps to the cave and places for visitors from the remnants of lava. The rest of the interior is adorned with cacti and green ferns, creating a fantastic setting for this place.

Tourists also visit La Geria, where they are given the opportunity to taste sweet wines produced from grapes that grow in fields with solidified lava
.
Only in the Canary Islands you can taste real malvasia
.

The sun and sandy beaches, the whisper of the Atlantic Ocean and the fresh sea breeze create a unique holiday in Lanzarote and encourage you to return to the island again …

125 km from the coast of Morocco and 2000 km from mainland Spain, Lanzarote is the fourth largest island in the Canary archipelago. This island of volcanic origin is also called the “island of fire-breathing mountains” – three hundred volcanoes are located on its territory.

Local unusual picturesque landscapes that appear before the eyes of travelers are fascinating – here are truly “lunar landscapes”. Most of the island is covered with solidified lava with multi-colored volcanic cones of various sizes rising between the lava fields.

My Lanzarote report

What time to go to Lanzarote?

The climate of the island is subtropical, mild, without large temperature fluctuations. The average annual temperature ranges from +20 °C in winter to +26 °C in summer. You can swim in the ocean water here all year round – its temperature is 20-23 °C.

Beaches of the island

Caleton Blanco sandbar (photo: Joseba Palacios Sáez)

Of the 250 km of coastline, 30 km of white, black and red sand beaches cover. All of them are municipal and free. The best beaches with crystal clear water and white sand are in Papagayo Bay on the south coast of the island. Windsurfers will love the Playa de Famara beach with its constantly blowing winds.

Sandbar Caleton Blanco
on the north coast is great for families with children. Nudists can sunbathe near Playa Blanca on Beach Playas de Papagayo

Cities and resorts of Lanzarote

Arrecife

Capital of the island Arrecife

Arrecife is the capital of the island. The city is located in the eastern part of Lanzarote. It is a commercial and passenger port where commercial ships and cruise liners moor. The city grew up on the site of a settlement founded in the 14th century by the Genevan merchant Malosello. Arrecife has long been a haven from storms for travelers and pirates.

Here are the main historical sites of Lanzarote – the old fortresses of San José and San Gabriel. The coast of Arrecife has several excellent EU Blue Flag beaches. In the restaurants of the city, you can taste dishes from fresh fish caught by local fishermen, and taste wine from a vine grown on volcanic lava.

Costa Teguise

The resort town of Costa Teguise (photo: zbiada)

Costa Teguise is a cozy resort town 10 kilometers from Arrecife. This resort was built specifically for tourists in the seventies of the XX century. Cesar Manrique participated in the architectural project of Costa Teguise. His main creation is the center of the town – the stylized fishing village of Pueblo Marinero with restaurants, bars and a traditional weekly fair. In Costa Teguise is one of the residences of the Spanish king. From entertainment there are golf courses, tennis courts, water sports training centers, a water park.

At the end of February, a wonderful carnival takes place here with processions in medieval costumes.

Puerto del Carmen

Puerto del Carmen – the tourist capital of the island (photo: belperskelter)

The tourist capital of Lanzarote is the city of Puerto del Carmen (Puerto del Carmen). It stretches for seven kilometers along the southeast coast of the island. Lined with restaurants, nightclubs, hotels and shops, its main street, Avenida de las Playas, is bustling day and night. Around the harbor is the old city center with a labyrinth of streets. This area retains the atmosphere of the small fishing village of La Tiños, from which the current resort began. In the vicinity of Puerto del Carmen, you can visit the Rancho Texas Zoological Garden.

At the end of July, Fiesta de Carmen is held here – a bright holiday dedicated to the patron saint of the city.

Puerto Calero

Puerto Calero resort (photo: Robert)

Puerto Calero is a quiet and peaceful resort town. There are no crowded beaches, there are no evening entertainments usual for European resorts. This is an exclusive village built for respectable vacationers. Port of Puerto Calero serves as a marina for private yachts, a starting point for sea excursions and recreational dives in a yellow submarine. The city has a Whale and Dolphin Museum (Museo de Cetáceos de Canarias).

Playa Blanca

Playa Blanca is located on the south coast of Lanzarote. This is the newest and actively developing resort of the island. Playa Blanca is ideal for family holidays: its beaches are suitable for both small children and active water sports enthusiasts. The developed infrastructure of the resort will appeal to vacationers of any age. From the local port you can make an excursion to the island.

Las Coloradas

Las Coloradas resort village (photo: darekw)

Las Coloradas is a village located near Playa Blanca. A 400-meter strip of beach, covered with volcanic sand, stretches along the coast. A monument of military architecture rises above the beach – the 18th-century fortress Castillo de las Coloradas. Along the coast of Las Coloradas there is a beautiful romantic promenade with hospitable bars and restaurants. Within walking distance from Las Coloradas are the most beautiful wild beaches of Lanzarote – Playas de Papagayo.

La Santa Sport

La Santa Sport Resort (photo: Smithal)

In the northwest of Lanzarote, by the picturesque La Santa lagoon, there is a sports resort called La Santa Sport. This place is a real paradise for active people. Map of Lanzarote resorts and attractions

Lanzarote attractions

In the western part of the island is the main attraction – Timanfaya National Park (Parque nacional de Timanfaya). Its unusual landscapes delight every visitor. An obligatory point in the program is a visit to the unique El Diablo restaurant, which is located at the top of an active volcano, where mouth-watering dishes are cooked on a volcanic grill.

Lake Charco de los Clicos

South of the village of El Golfo is an amazing lake of unnatural acid green color – Charco de los Clicos. Like frozen waves, it is surrounded by bizarre rocks. On the black pebble beach there are tourists who are keen on searching for the olive-green semi-precious stone – olivine (chrysolite).

Jameos del Agua volcanic caves

Jameos del Agua volcanic caves are an extraordinary landscape that consists of underground passages and grottoes. This complex has become an excursion object thanks to the initiative of the artist Cesar Manrique. The first cave with a luxurious tropical garden and an artificial reservoir is called Jameo Grande. A little further is Jameos del Agua, a concert cave with unique acoustics and the entrance to a crater called Jameo de la Cazuela. The fauna of Jameos del Agua is interesting, the most famous representative of which is the white blind crab, which has become a symbol of this cave complex.

Cueva de Los Verdes

Los Verdes cave, more than 6 km long, appeared several thousand years ago. At one time, local residents fled from pirates in its intricate galleries. Now a kilometer section of the tunnel with winding corridors and spacious high halls is open for tourists.

César Manrique House Museum

The amazing house of the famous artist, built and decorated by himself, is now the office of the César Manrique Foundation (Fundación César Manrique) and the museum of the eminent master, which houses the works of the artist himself, as well as his personal collection of paintings Tapiesa, Miro, Picasso.

You can appreciate the beauty of the Chinijo archipelago from the observation deck of Cape Mirador del Rio (Mirador del Rio) – 470 m above sea level.

The vineyards of La Geria (photo: Ciska)

La Geria is a well-known wine-growing region with vineyards that even climb the slopes of volcanoes. Now it is a protected zone, positioned, at the initiative of Cesar Manrique, as an example of the harmonious coexistence of man and nature. From the Malvasia grown in these places, they make amazingly tasty and aromatic wine, which you can try and buy in local wineries.

Cactus Park (photo: tartandart)

Cactus Park (Jardin de Cactus) is an extraordinary amphitheater park in a former volcanic ash quarry. It is located in the village of Guatiza. Many unique representatives of the cactus family of various shapes and colors grow here.

Rancho Texas Park (photo: Ute & Hans)

Rancho Texas Park is a wild west-themed zoological garden featuring a variety of animal species kept in enclosures. Of particular interest to visitors is the show of raptors with huge birds spectacularly diving into the pond.

Aqua Park Costa Teguise

Aqua Park Costa Teguise (photo: pipol)

The Aqua Park Costa Teguise in the resort town of Costa Teguise is the favorite of the kids. Bright trampolines, inflatable “Castle of games”, “Lake for children”, which brought together slides of various shapes and colors, captivate children for the whole day. There are also water activities for adults, for example, the Eight Tracks attraction. There are also souvenir shops, cafes and a cozy restaurant on the territory of the water park.

Lanzarote beaches TOP 10: description, location, photo, video

Although the Atlantic Ocean is not very warm and gentle, you can and should swim in it! Therefore, I offer you an article – Beaches of Lanzarote TOP 10. Let’s analyze the beaches “by the bones” and tell you everything! You will not find such a rating in RuNet, this is not a template redone article, but manually compiled by me, the author of the site. The fact that I have visited Lanzarote twice gives me the right to talk about this and I know what I am writing about!

Before we start, I would like to recommend that you subscribe to my YouTube channel Aviationmania so that you don’t miss a single episode about Lanzarote, and there will be many!!

1. Papagayo Beaches (Playa de Papagayo)

It is not by chance that I rank the beaches, and I put Papagayo Beaches in the first place!

The fact is that under this name in the south of the island there is not one beach, but several.

Moving from the resort of Playa Blanca, you will pass one after another beautiful secluded coves hidden from the wind.

But since we are doing a rating here, I include a very specific beach – the last bay of Papagayo.

Believe me, you will recognize her and she will win you over!

Hint: there are two cafes on the mountain at the corner of the beach.

Papagayo on the map

How to get to Playa del Papagayo

There are at least three options:

  • on foot from Playa Blanca (resort in the south of Lanzarote)
  • by water taxi
  • 0930
Advice if you go on foot:

The path is not easy: the distance is about 7-8 km (depending on which road you choose). In time, it will take at least 1.5-2 hours, add to this the hot Canarian sun and rest stops and it turns out that you will spend half a day on the road and rest there. But, if you don’t have plans for a person and you like to walk, then why not!

Playa del Papagayo by car, advice:

If you are renting a car and going to this beach, keep in mind that the road is unpaved, so it is more comfortable to travel by jeep / SUV.

Water taxi Ido Papagayo:

I already wrote about this in the article Lanzarote Canary Islands: Puerto Del Carmen resort, so I am posting a screenshot:

2.

Playa Chica

popular resort of Lanzarote – Puerto Del Carmen. Its length is less than 100 meters, but it is considered the best in the resort and one of the best on the island.

This beach is also very popular due to the fact that there is a diving school right on the coast. Therefore, all lovers of diving from the shore adore this place.

Well, ordinary tourists will like the beach because it is sheltered from the wind (located in a bay between rocky lava rocks), which means that the water here is warmer than on many beaches of the island.

Playa Chica on the map

3. Famara Beach (Playa de Famara)

This is a beach for surfers and people who are active and free. The landscape is reminiscent of Los Gigantes in Tenerife. Who cares, welcome to my article about our visit to Tenerife, namely in article Tenerife black sand beaches .

Here you can find inexpensive hotels, eat unrealistically delicious paella in a fish restaurant on the shore. Surf schools and equipment stores, all this is on the beach of Famara.

The beach is long and picturesque. The entrance is comfortable, but, as you probably guessed, the signature feature of the beach is the presence of waves and wind. There are not many families with children here, since the waves of the Atlantic Ocean are not like sheep on the Mediterranean Sea, you won’t frolic with a circle …

The bulk of vacationers are young people.

Famara beach photo:

Playa de Famara on the map

4. White beaches of Orzola (Playa Caletón Blanco)

The beach is located in the North of Lanzarote and not everyone comes here.

There are several reasons:
  • in the settlement of Órzola, few people stay during their holidays, perhaps it would be more correct to say almost no one. This is not a tourist place
  • the first reason leads to the second – it’s a long way to go to the beach
  • not everyone knows how picturesque it is, but what can I say, not everyone knows about its existence. Many people think that all the remarkable beaches are located in the south. But this is not always the case!!!
Órzola’s Caletón Blanco beach

There is a bit of confusion around this beach, as is the case with Papagayo. The town of Orzola is rich in beaches on both sides:

  • south of Orzola is Caleton Blanco
  • north of Orzola is Playa De Orzola

And these are two completely different beaches!

Caleton Blanco beach photo

Playa De Orzola beach photo

Caleton Blanco — the beach is very picturesque!

Its main feature is green hills of grass powdered with white sand brought from the Sahara. Yes, yes, don’t be surprised. The wind carries sand across the ocean, which settles here, forming white dunes among bright green vegetation. And if you add the blue waters of the ocean to all this, it seems that you are in a fairy tale!!!

But let’s be honest: admiring and swimming are two different things!

Therefore, I want to warn everyone who is already putting on swimming trunks, that this is not a good entry into the ocean, there are a lot of stones. And if the water is not calm, then stones, waves and wind can completely spoil the bath. Be careful. But it’s definitely worth it to come and see it.

Playa De Orzola – a beautiful beach (little Famara)

I did not include this beach in my rating, and here’s why.

It is very beautiful (rocks, waves, ocean. But it reminds me of Famara beach, which I already talked about, only Playa De Orzola does not have such a civilization (restaurants, surf schools, etc.). Therefore, if you want privacy , then you will quite like it, but I will not repeat myself)

Playa Caletón Blanco on the map

5. Flamingo Beach (Playa Flamingo)

If you are staying at the resort of Playa Blanco, then do not rush to walk 8 km to Papagayo Bay!

Visit the beach of your resort first:)

It is very hot in the Canary Islands in summer. The sun spares no one! In this sense, the presence of civilization near the beach can play a decisive role in choosing a place to relax and swim. Flamingo Beach is just like that. It is not very long (about 200 meters), but everything you need is there.

Restaurants with terraces and a beautiful promenade will diversify your holiday. And if you also order a bottle of Yaiza wine … mmmm … But more on that later, in another article. Wine in Lanzarote is a separate issue.

Playa Flamingo on the map

6. Mujeres Beach (Playa de Mujeres)

To be honest, I don’t know how to pronounce the name of this beach in Russian)

It is located in the south of the island. And the choice of this beach is something between Papagayo Bay and Flamingo Beach. At least in terms of location. That is, it is located, one might say, halfway along the road to Papagayo from Playa Blanca. And it is Mujeres – the first beach of Papagayo. That is, he also belongs to this group. Its popularity is partly due to this. But besides the loud name, it still has some positive features.

Both the rough waters of the Atlantic and calm waters can welcome you here, both are normal for the Canaries, bring some goodies and a hat and enjoy.

In addition, there is a World War II quarry and limestone bunker that travelers love to explore. However, I am not a supporter of such entertainment, at least without a Geiger counter in my hands)

Photo of the object on the beach

Mujeres Secret Coves

If you are not afraid or, on the contrary, love, then at low tide in these places you can look for bays that cannot be reached by land.

Playa de Mujeres on the map

7. Beach with olivines (Playa de Janubio)

Here in Lanzarote miracles happen at every turn. Right on the beach you can collect a handful of semi-precious emerald stones. Twice a day, at high tide, they wash ashore from the ocean, and knowledgeable tourists collect pebbles.

This is the main feature of this beach. It is difficult to swim here because of the often strong waves and large stones, but it is very pleasant to walk along the black sand along the ocean, collecting olivines.

In addition, behind the beach is the salt mining site in Lanzarote – Salina De Janubio.

But I talked about this in another article .

8. Beach near Lago Verdi – Charco de los Clicos

In the photo you see a green lake. This is Lago Verde. I have already written about it in more detail. And next to it is the beach. It seems to be nothing particularly remarkable, however, you can get several pleasures at a time by visiting it.

El Golfo

The fact is that this is a beach – a volcano crater, which is now a beach))) I would swim in the crater, and you?

9. Playa Del Risco beach

Friends, I’m “burning the topic” because I just can’t be silent…

in fact, absolutely ordinary and unremarkable .. I want to write to you about such places, seeing which you will remember me with a kind word and write good reviews on the website and YouTube channel Aviamania)))

Lanzarote Beaches TOP 10: Playa Del Risco

After seeing one of the main attractions of Lanzarote Mirador Del Rio, do not rush to leave. If you go down, you will find yourself on one of the most beautiful beaches of the island.

From here you have a beautiful view of the neighboring island of La Graciosa, the water is beautifully colored and there are rarely waves.

Minus – a long tiring road down and then up. (about 45 minutes one way). Water, a hat and comfortable shoes will help you!

Many consider Playa Del Risco to be the most beautiful beach of Lanzarote!

10. Playa Francesa

This beach is not located on the island of Lanzarote, so why am I including it in the rating?!

The thing is that in winter it is not very comfortable to swim in Lanzarote, but there is one secret!

Lanzarote residents go swimming in February to the neighboring island of La Graciosa. It is quiet, beautiful, there are no crowds of tourists and the water is warmer!

Ferry carrier Líneas Marítimas Romero

Carrier website https://www. lineasromero.com/en/ferries/

Travel time by ferry is 30 minutes.

Departure point Orzola Lanzarote island

Arrival point Caleta de Sebo La Graciosa island

Cost 11 euros per adult, children under 3 years old free of charge, from 3 to 11 years old – 7 euros.

Upon arrival in the capital of the island, you will need to walk 45 minutes to the beach.

There is, of course, an option to rent a bike and shorten this time, but this is up to you.

I got so carried away telling you about the beaches that I told you not about 10, but about much more. But I’m not greedy for information, so I’m glad to try for you!

If you liked the article, then I will be very pleased to hear about it from you – write reviews under the articles)))

There are so many more interesting things ahead!!!

hotels, beaches, sea, entertainment and excursions

Cuisine and restaurants

Island cuisine is a combination of Spanish spice and Mexican spiciness, seafood and British breakfast rolls.

For lovers of Mediterranean cuisine who want to taste luxuriously prepared seafood, dinner at Isla de Lobos will be a real gastronomic shock. But don’t forget to book a table at this exclusive venue and make sure you dress appropriately.

If you’re staying in Puerto del Carmen or are on a tour there, stop by for a pizza bite at Caffe Italia Pizzeria – you won’t regret it.

Attractions Lanzarote

The island itself is an attraction. As a result of numerous lava eruptions, it is completely devoid of flora, but three hundred volcanic peaks and colored fields of solidified lava make such a strong impression that you can be sure that you will not forget this place in a lifetime.

You can enjoy these views to the fullest in the Timanfaya National Reserve, which is located in the western part of the island.

The cave Cueva de los Verdes is a must to visit.

As on any island, all kinds of water activities are popular on Lanzarote.

Lanzarote – an island in the Canary Islands, the province of Las Palmas

A place that combines fascinating volcanic landscapes, innumerable opportunities for outdoor activities, amazing Mediterranean cuisine – this is one of the islands of the Canary archipelago – Lanzarote.

The Canary Islands have long been rightfully considered a place of elite recreation. The islands are washed by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean and consist of 7 large and several small islands.

Island of Volcanoes

The fourth largest island of the Canary archipelago Lanzarote is called the “island of volcanoes”

The island got its name from the name of the Genoese merchant Lancelotto Malocello, who arrived on the island in the 14th century.

In 2.053 days of eruptions, lava covered ¼ of the surface of the entire island, including the most fertile soil, and buried 11 villages under it.

How to get to Lanzarote

There is no direct flight connection to this fabulous island from Moscow or Kyiv. You can fly to the airport of the largest island of the Canary archipelago – Tenerife, and then, having made a transfer, fly to the island of Lanzarote.

Cities and resorts of the island of Lanzarote

Since 1927, Lanzarote, along with another Canary Island – Fuerteventura, became part of the Las Palmas region and was territorially divided into seven municipalities:

  1. Arrecife,
  2. San Bartolome,
  3. Haria,
  4. Tias,
  5. Yaisa,
  6. Tinaho,
  7. Teguise, which includes Isla de la Graciosa and four small islets, to which Taiche also belongs.

Tenerife – a detailed guide to the Spanish island of eternal spring and not all parents want to bore their kids.A good alternative is a holiday on mainland Spain.our review tells.

The capital of the island Arrecife owes its name to the mountain reef
, which is why Aressife is translated from Spanish as “reef”. The streets of the city reflect the unique maritime character and literally breathe history.

The first mention of Arrecife dates back to the 15th century, when the city was still a small fishing village. Black volcanic reefs, behind which boats hid, protected fishermen from sudden pirate attacks. In the XVI century. the settlement began to grow actively, and the first church dedicated to the first bishop of San Gines was erected on its territory.

The city became the capital in 1852, and such major industries as tourism and agriculture are actively developing on its territory.

:

  • Costa Teguise;
  • Puerto del Carmen, in the suburbs of which the resort village of Puerto Calero is located;

The ticket price is negligible – about 1.50€.

You can also use the services of the competing company Bono Bus, with which the journey to the oldest resort will cost 1.20€.

Once a small resort village in just 20 years, it has turned into a resort town that welcomes over 30,000 tourists annually.

The golden sandy beach starts gently from Playa de los Pocillos and ends at the Beatriz Playa hotel. It is also windy, its length is 1.000m, the maximum width is 60m. Umbrellas with sun loungers and showers are provided for vacationers. There are no water activities.

Playa Fariones and Playa Chica

They are not intended for beach lovers, as the entrance to the water is blocked by stones.

In the resort area there are many restaurants, including fish, offering exquisite Canarian cuisine, bars, entertaining visitors every evening with simple show programs, discos and casinos. The port offers an exciting boat trip or fishing in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. Around the harbor is the “Old Town”, which has retained the atmosphere of a fishing village.

In the evening, tourists stroll along Avenida de las Playas, the resort’s main thoroughfare.

At the end of July, the Fiesta de Carmen is celebrated on a large scale – a holiday honoring the heavenly patroness of the city. The city is festively decorated with garlands, colorful banners, flags and balloons.

The fun lasts until early morning, introducing numerous tourists to traditional folklore performances, dances and other entertainment. For this holiday, fishing boats are festively decorated so that at the climax they go to the ocean in a long line. Residents of the city at the end of the holiday pray for good catches next year.

The second most important tourist center
is located in the east of the island.

From Lanzarote Airport you can reach the resort in just 15 minutes by bus (ticket price 1.15€, travel by Bono Bus will cost 0. 92€) or taxi (from 6.00 to 22.00 – 20€, from 22.00 until 6.00 – 24€).

The resort has no history of turning a fishing village into a beautiful city. It was created artificially on an uninhabited stretch of coast about 40 years ago. The coast is always windy, so Costa Teguise has become a favorite destination for windsurfers and kiters.

Beaches of Costa Teguise

There are 5 beaches in Costa Teguise:

Las Cucharas

In Spanish, the name translates as “spoons”.

El Jabillo

The rocky beach is 180m long and 20m wide. The waves are low here. Near the beach is the Grand Teguise Playa Hotel. There is no entertainment and soul, only the rental of sun loungers and umbrellas works.

Playa Bastian

It differs from the rest in darker sand.

Attractions and entertainment Costa Teguise

Around Pueblo Marinero, a decorative fishing village designed by Cesar Manrique, the center of Costa Teguise is concentrated. Also, according to the project of Manrique, ordered by King Hussein of Jordan, one of the four residences of the King of Spain, La Mareta, was built. She was presented by Hussein to the Spanish king Juan Carlos as a wedding gift.

La Mareta is a rather modest building with a helipad located on its territory.

The market offers original handmade souvenirs

Also, the fortress on Mount Castillo de Santa Barbara is named after its owner, who was canonized for the fact that she was martyred without giving the pirates the place of refuge of her servants. She is the patroness of the city, and Spanish Catholics always commemorate her day in churches.

Among the objects of interest is Spinoza’s palace, which was originally the residence of the governor-general, and then passed to later owners – merchants from Genoa.

The palace is now a museum and its richly decorated interior impresses visitors. It is also worth visiting one of the oldest churches in the Canary Islands, the Nuestra Señora de Guadelupe church, and then strolling along the stone-paved streets with numerous sights.

Playa Blanca Beaches

Next to the new elegant and promising resort are Playas de Papagayo – the most beautiful wild beaches of the island

If fate gave you the opportunity to come to rest in Lanzarote, then you should definitely visit the north of the island, where a special microclimate has developed that turned the zone into the greenest place on the island – the Valley of a Thousand Palm Groves
.

Unique fire palms with leaves resembling flames and beautiful tropical plants grow in the Grove.

125 km from the coast of Morocco and 2000 km from mainland Spain, Lanzarote is the fourth largest island in the Canary archipelago. This island of volcanic origin is also called the “island of fire-breathing mountains.”
