Our location is just a few minutes walk from from Puerto Santiago and a short taxi ride from Playa Arena.

Los Gigantes Diving Centre offers quality scuba diving in Tenerife and diving courses on a range of dive sites with something suitable for all levels of diving qualification, including hand feeding Stingrays and Turtles Although registered with the BSAC & PADI, scuba diving licences from all training agencies are recognised. The dive centre has all necessary permits, insurances & is a registered member of the Canary Tourist Board.

The family business is operated by brother and sister Neville and Sheila Widdrington (PADI Master Instructor and BSAC 3 star Instructor) and Sheila’s son Chris (PADI Divemaster). In 25 years of diving in Tenerife, Los Gigantes Diving Centre is justifiably proud of an unbroken safety record. We aim to keep it that way!

A full range of BSAC and PADI courses are available, from beginner to Divemaster, as well as many PADI speciality diving courses. The Dive Centre conducts dives from a 7.5 metre RIB licensed for 12 people – 10 divers, a dive guide and a skipper carrying all necessary safety equipment on board.

Our boat mooring is aprox 50 metres walk from the dive centre entrance.

We do not put you in a mini bus & drive you several kilometres to a shore dive or to another dive centre. Weightbelts are kept on the boat, further reducing the workload.

Our boat is never left unattended at anchor.

In compliance with Spanish law & to provide our dives with full safety cover, our boat is always manned whilst divers are in the water. The practice of leaving a boat unmanned during a dive can result in serious incidents. Be careful who you choose to dive with! The skipper is fully licensed as well as being a qualified diving instructor or divemaster, trained in rescue & oxygen administration.

Oxygen & first aid kit carried at all times.

Although it has never been used in an emergency, it is always available on the boat.

Dives are guided by a fully qualifed instructor or divemaster.

They are there to help & assist with minor problems & to navigate underwater so that you see the best of each dive site.

Scuba Diving Insurance.

In the European Union it is compulsory to have scuba diving insurance to cover you for third party liability and medical recompression therapy. We are affiliated with Dive Assure and D.A.N (Divers Alert Network), and can offer policies at very reasonable rates to customers who do not have there own scuba diving insurance.

Storage space available in the dive centre.

You do not want to carry heavy dive bags around everywhere, after all you are on holiday. Full diving equipment hire is available and divers are provided with weights and 10, 12 or 15 litre steel tanks.

Diving in Tenerife on some of the best dive sites in Tenerife

We regularly visit around 20 different diving sites consisting of spectacular volcanic scenery, arches and caverns with plenty to satisfy all levels of experience. The only wrecks are the tourists at the end of their holiday! Offshore depths reach 2000 metres, beyond the reach of the most hardened “techies”. We put a sensible (and legally required) depth limit of 40 metres on our dives. The only gas mix we offer is 21% oxygen 79% nitrogen “normal air”. As most of our dives are of a multi-level nature, good times and safe dive profiles can be achieved. Water temperatures vary from 19° C in the winter to 24° C in the summer and being in a sub-tropical Atlantic Ocean means that large deep sea marine life are occasionally seen whilst diving.

Los Gigantes Diving Centre Dive Schedule

Dives normally depart twice a day, at 10:00 and at 12:00, (closed on Sundays) always returning to the centre between dives. We visit the Stingray dive every 4 to 5 days, departing at 12:00. Divers should arrive half an hour earlier to assemble their equipment. At peak times, we put on more dives per day and operate on Sundays if required. As the furthest dive site is a half hour boat trip from the marina, one dive takes no more than about 2 hours of your time – plenty of opportunity to relax in the sun or take a tour with the family to see the spectacular scenery of Tenerife

Where is Los Gigantes?

Los Gigantes lies at 28 15 N, 16 50W, only 5 degrees north of the tropic of cancer. Situated on the south west coast of Tenerife, beneath the magnificent 500 metre cliffs, Los Gigantes Diving Centre offers diving on the most sheltered part ofTenerife. The islands weather is governed by the North East Trade Winds, the cliffs and the geographical location of Los Gigantes (see map of Tenerife) make the village the warmest & (most important from a diving point of view) calmest resort in Tenerife. A small resort for Tenerife, Los Gigantes offers everything a family or diving group could want and is within a reasonable travelling distance of the many attractions, other than diving, which Tenerife has to offer. Further general tourist information can be accessed from Tenerife.

      Diving in Tenerife with Stingrays

A dive site where you can hand feed round stingrays, common stringrays, roughtail stringrays and eagle rays. Large pelagics and predators such as barracuda, jacks and tuna are also frequently seen. It is one of the most popular dives in Tenerife, established in 1996 by the Los Gigantes Diving Centre it has been puplished in several diver magazine articles, in the United Kingdom and internationally. At a depth of 18 – 20 meters its suitable for all levels of qualified divers.

      Turtle Safari in Tenerife

An astounding excursion for all the family is a visit to the beautiful, protected bay of El Puertito where a few turtles have made their home. They live at a depth of 3 to 10 meters which is perfect for snorkeling. They also frequently appear right next to our boat to see us even before the snorkelers are in the water. When you are in the water they will tail you and will joyfully pose for photographs. So dont forget your camera! However the dive centre does have an excellent underwater camera which can be hired.

      Night Diving in Tenerife

Night dives can be arranged as requested. Many species of marine life avoid the daytime, prefering to live and feed during the night. On the night dive there is an oportunity to see life not seen or very difficult to see during the day.

      Diving in Tenerife

Tenerife (Spanish: Tenerife) is the largest island in the archipelago of the seven Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean. It occupies a central position relative to the islands of the archipelago and, together with the three neighboring islands of Palma, Gomera and Hierro, is part of the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, with its administrative center in the city of the same name.

Mount Teide rises in the center of the island (3718 m above sea level, the highest point in Spain). The last volcanic eruption in Tenerife occurred at 1909 year.

Diving in Tenerife is not yet well known, but the popularity of the island is growing every year. The waters of the Canary Islands are fraught with unprecedented riches, and sunken pirate ships, as the legends say, hid in its depths forever. The unexplored dive sites of Tenerife attract adventurers and captivate even the most sophisticated diver with their beauty. That is why diving in Tenerife seems so attractive: every dive promises to be unforgettable!

Near Tenerife there are more than three dozen interesting dive sites. Most dive sites are located on the southern and southwestern coasts of the island. The water temperature in the ocean near the southern shores is higher (22-23C in May-June), and the waves are much smaller. There is a variety of underwater animals – large inhabitants of the seas – huge stingrays, sharks, turtles. In addition to living creatures, you can admire bizarre underwater landscapes. An island of volcanic origin, lava solidified under water in the most bizarre forms and different colors – from dark shades to bright white.

For the adventurous, there are several wrecks and caves, the most interesting being Abama Cave. Entrance from the ocean, maximum depth – 8-12 meters.

    Lunch wonderful world of dolls.

A magical day starts from 8.45 am to 9.15 am, when we pick you up by bus at or near the hotel.

At 09.30 we are already at the gates of Monkey Park, where lemurs are eagerly waiting for us. They are avid for grapes and figs, and you have the opportunity to take dozens of photos of how these cute little animals sit on your arms or shoulder. In Monkey Park we will see other monkeys and creatures, we will wake up there for one hour in total.

Leaving the Monkey Park, we move along the highway to La Orotava (about 1 hour), or rather to the next park, which is Pueblo Chico or the so-called. miniature park. Having seen enough of how lemurs feast, most likely we are hungry, so lunch is waiting for us: Tapas

Main course – in Canarian marinade grilled meat on skewers

Shriveled potatoes (Papas Arrugadas) with gravy MOJO

    Vanilla ice cream

    Water, red wine, rolls

Children’s menu also includes chicken on skewers, as well as sweets in addition to ice cream.

After lunch, we will make a circle around Tenerife in just an hour, those who wish (starting from 10 years old) can rush along the funicular through miniature Tenerife (for an additional fee) and, if desired, you or your whole family can make a Tenerife themed cartoon – also at extra charge.

After Pueblo Chico, delicate butterflies await us in the Butterfly Park or in Mariposario del Drago. The ride between the two parks takes only 20 minutes.

The day ends with a visit to a park unique in the world, not to mention Tenerife. Namely, in the spring of 2012, the museum of soft toys and art dolls ArtLandia opened its doors. This is an incredibly exciting world, built in a historic wine estate and hidden in a beautiful park, the existence of which the uninitiated usually do not know or suspect anything. We will see dolls, many of which cost more than the average class of a new car, and get acquainted with such a wonderful world where the birth of dolls takes no less time than the birth of a human child. Experience shows that once in the wonderful world of ArtLandia, it is adults who fall into more admiration than children.

There is also a café in ArtLandia.

After looking at the dolls and toys, we are on our way back, and after seven in the evening you will all be in your hotels.

Underwater diving in Tenerife is safe for beginners, but also attracts experienced athletes – sunken pirate ships, underwater rocks, grottoes, caves, rarely seen elsewhere bottlenose dolphins, loggerhead turtles , pilot whales, giant rays. Predators are not found in coastal waters, and angel sharks that appear in the Los Gigantes area are not dangerous to humans.

Sea turtles can be found in the waters here.

    Sveta Nikolaeva:

“Tenerife is a dream for divers – the richest underwater world and no predators. On Playa San Juan there is an underwater cave of extraordinary beauty, and near the village of Masca there are black corals. The pleasure is not cheap – equipment rental for the day is almost 15 euros, for 2 dives for beginners I paid 90 euros. I really enjoyed diving at night.”

    Surfing for beginners and experienced

In Tenerife, almost surf everywhere – long, short, soft boards, boards with leg loops and even without a board – in special fins and gloves. Most of the numerous surf schools are concentrated in popular tourist areas.

A surfer in Tenerife is very similar to a surfer anywhere else. At first glance, you can’t tell them apart.
    Photo: flickr.com/glen_meye

The largest school – K16 of the Canary Islands Surfing Federation – settled on Las Americas beach. Here you can take an initial or accelerated course, take individual lessons. Classes last 2 hours and start at 8.30, 11.00 and 16.00.

    Kozhin Vasily:

“I took surf lessons at K16 – there is a Russian-speaking instructor. Lesson for 1 person – 70 euros, and for 3 people. – 50 euros. The waves are small, so it’s safe for beginners. I got on the board right away, but it was hard to row against the waves, then my hands dangled like ropes. You need to sign up for a lesson a day or two in advance.

The main thing is to catch the wave .. or not to be caught by it.
    Photo: flickr.com/vituh3001

Two-hour lessons are held every day for dummies right on the beach . Groups are selected by age and level of training (35 euros, including wetsuit rental, boards and insurance, for couples and schoolchildren – 5-20% discounts).

    Windsurfing

The small resort of El Medano is very popular with windsurfers from all over the world , many “wind-dependent” Europeans even live here for years.

El Medano is the windiest place in Europe, the northeast trade winds constantly blow here, and at an angle of 45 ° to the coast. Windsurfing is almost always possible here , there are 2 surf clubs: Playa Sur (www.surfcenter.el-medano.com) and Fanatic Board (www.fanatic.el-medano.com).

    Conqueror of waves and wind.
    Photo: flickr.com/rmainuk

The pier divides the coast into two bays. The rocky beach of El Cabezo is the domain of local and visiting professionals, the best riders of the planet . There is a slanting strong wind, powerful surf, waves up to 4 m. The second bay is calmer – the wave height rarely exceeds 1.5 m – this is a great place for training. You can learn the basics of windsurfing in a couple of hours of training with an experienced instructor (15 euros per lesson).

El Medano – the resort is not pretentious , but all the necessary infrastructure is there – shops, a pharmacy, playgrounds, bars and restaurants, an excellent beach, rental shops, equipment stores.

We offer you to take a virtual tour of the city.

Within walking distance from the beach there are several hotels, vacationers can rent apartments, villas. But accommodation needs to be booked in advance due to increased demand.

    Nikita:

“We lived in Costa Adeje, 25 km from the wheelchair (20 minutes by car). The distances on the island are small, so it is realistic to live in any area. We rarely went to public catering, we found an excellent shop in Medano – they bought ready-made food there. It was delicious, the choice was large, everything was fresh – salads, meat, fish, there was a kitchen in the apartment.

After skiing and walking, you can relax in one of the street cafes.
    Photo: flickr.com/peterallan

El Medano hosts the first professional kitesurfing school and many excellent places for slalom and freestyle.

    Are we flying?

    Archives Mediterranean – DivingPlace

The Canary Islands are an archipelago located in the North Atlantic. They are part of Spain but have their own laws and consist of seven main land masses. They were formed as a result of volcanic eruptions and this makes scuba diving incredible.

With its many sunny days, mesmerizing cliffs and golden beaches, the Canary Islands have become popular with tourists and divers. The geographical position of the Canary Islands next to the African coast is a kind of guarantor that positive temperatures remain constant all year round, and you can do underwater diving all 365 days.

    Dive sites

The islands have mild winters and warm summers. Sunny weather all year round with average temperatures between 17°C and 24°C. The Canary Islands are washed by the Gulf Stream, which regulates the water temperature, keeping it within 17-18 ° C in winter and around 23 ° C in summer. Generally, 5mm and 7mm wetsuits are comfortable for divers. Excellent visibility, often exceeding 30 meters, depending on local conditions, ideal for exploring the following dive sites:

    Gran Canaria

Impressive volcanic landscapes, clear waters and a variety of marine life – this is Gran Canaria. Gran Canaria is often referred to as a “miniature continent” as it boasts a wide variety of landscapes. You can enjoy long golden beaches in the south of the island and dense pine forests on the west coast. In addition, there is a wide variety of dive sites scattered throughout the island. Under water you can meet giant rays and angel sharks.

    Lanzarote

Playa Chica Reef is home to 10 dive sites in Lanzarote, including the popular Blue Hole and the Cathedral. Seahorses, angel sharks, rays are just some of the representatives that you can encounter while diving. Here is the only museum of underwater sculptures in Europe. It was created to promote diving and protect the environment. Each exhibit was made from environmentally friendly resources in order to develop and support the ecosystem. The stunning underwater view makes the museum the number one dive site in Lanzarote.

    Tenerife

Tenerife, just a few hours flight from major European cities. The island is considered one of the best areas for diving. There are dozens of different dive sites in the south. The depth of the dive sites varies from 6 to 40 meters, which makes diving in Tenerife accessible to divers of any level. Some locations are ideal for deeper exploration. A nice addition to the diving opportunities on the island are the wrecks of El Penon, El Condesito and Meridian. The water temperature averages 22 degrees with a weak current. When diving, there is a chance to see black corals.

    Fuerteventura

Fuerteventura is one of the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Africa. In May 2009, it was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. The island stretches from north to south, with the longest and whitest beaches of all in the archipelago. Diving here amazes with a variety of flora and fauna: from anemones, gastropods and sponges to impressive flocks of barracudas. You can meet angel sharks, hammerhead sharks, whales, dolphins, large common rays, eagle rays, butterfly rays, big-headed turtles, common black and tiger eels, known as moray eels. Some of the interesting dive sites are Bajón del Río, El Veril Grande, Tower Boat, Las Salinas and Mole, which are suitable for beginners.

    La Palma

La Palma is not as touristy as the other Canary Islands. It is commonly referred to as the “wild beauty of the Canary Islands”. But this is not because it is not suitable for recreation. In fact, La Palma has some of the most stunning scenery in Europe. If you are looking for a relaxing snorkeling vacation, Las Cabras dive site on La Palma is the best place to dive. Numerous volcanic eruptions on La Palma have created one of the most impressive underwater landscapes in the world. Here are bizarre lava formations, and steep walls, and basalt arches and canyons. Warm waters are rich in subtropical and tropical fauna. Visibility up to 40 meters. Dive sites are located throughout the southern half of the island.

    La Gomera

Memorable scenery offered to divers includes bizarre rock formations and sandy plains. Not to mention the diverse fauna. Diving in the Playa Santiago area is popular because the Atlantic Ocean is usually calmer here. Diving around La Gomera, you can see not only shimmering schools of fish, but also much larger representatives. Barracuda and tuna, turtles and various types of rays are found in abundance here. Brightly colored parrotfish, groupers and scorpions can be found everywhere. Large rocks covered with sponges and unique stone formations form an underwater landscape rich in small living creatures. In addition to anemones and sponges, you can see sea snails and crabs. You can meet brown or black, and sometimes even tiger moray eel, hiding in the crevices of the rocks.

    El Hierro

With a visibility of 30 meters, this place is famous for rare dives with devil manta rays, whales and sharks. The underwater landscape was formed as a result of volcanic activity. The seabed is covered with rock formations such as pinnacles, large bluffs, caves and tunnels. Dense vegetation on the rocks is rich in various small living creatures. Lobsters, shrimps, seahorses, black and yellow corals, anemones and sponges hide in numerous cracks and crevices. Diving in these crystal clear waters, you can meet tuna, parrot fish, groupers, flounders, snappers, angel sharks, octopuses, rays and various types of moray eels. In season you can see sand tiger sharks, manta rays, whale sharks, dolphins and turtles here.

    Getting there

You can get to the Canary Islands by plane or ferry. Many airlines, including low-cost airlines, operate more than one daily flight. There are many direct flights from almost all European countries to many airports in the Canary Islands.

The best way to travel around the Canary Islands is by car. Although there are buses, most of them do not run often enough to be useful for tourists. The sights of the islands are too scattered to be fully explored on foot.

A car allows you to quickly and efficiently get where you want to go. If you need to tour the island, flying is a reliable and efficient way to get around. If tourists prefer to travel by boat, several companies also offer ferry services.

    Dive Clubs

The Canary Islands has a huge number of dive sites and dive centers offering various scuba training courses or joining one of the underwater excursions. Among the popular clubs, attention should be paid to:

    ONE-TWO-DIVE

The center offers the highest quality, service and safety. Comfort and customer satisfaction is a priority for the club. It works according to the PADI diving system. It is well structured with a huge range of exceptional learning tools. With a personalized and professional approach, instructors help guests relax and fully prepare for open water diving. The club strives to provide an unforgettable experience, inspiring love and respect for nature.

    Zeus Dive Center

Zeus Dive Center is a young company located in the south of Gran Canaria in Playa del Inglés. Multilingual instructors work here. The club invites everyone to enjoy scuba diving. The dive center provides free transport from the hotel to the onshore dive sites. Customers are invited to try nitrox diving for free.
