    Review of: Volcan El Teide

A great experience though a little disappointing that the cable car was not working

I went up to the Teide National Park as part of a half day coach tour. This took us to the base of the volcano but as the cable car was closed due to a technical issue I could not get near the top. Still amazing views in the area of the remains of previous volcano eruptions. I would suggest that if you go by car you come back via the Mosca Valley.

    Review of: Siam Park

Twin ticket with Loro & Siam + free burger!

If you’re up for fun, this is a fab day out.

We took my daughter 6 yrs old and only just reaching the 1.25m minimum height for most rides (Thank goodness) I think it was 1.5m for the Tower.

Plenty to do, could spend the whole day there at the ages of 7+ is probably the absolute best as they can also use the smaller kids slides, access everything and still enjoy the lazy river, and wave pool if they don’t like the faster rides. – Admittedly some of them did throw you around a lot!

I forgot to wear contact lenses stupidly so had to take my glasses off on rides.
You cant wear sunhat or anything so whack that suncream on thick! – Although most of the queues were in shade,

We went on Wednesday mid-september – off peak but still hot – the floor was unwalkable in some places to buy some wet shoes before you go or pay their prices on arrives. Queues started at around 10-15 mins on arrival but up to 1 hour on biggest slides later in the day. We got to to on everything once and then was exhausted anyway but if it was any busier then a fast pass would be worth it even for for £18 each.

Food was actually really nice and not stupidly overpriced like you would expect.

We got a twin ticket for Siam and Loro park from attraction tickets.com and we got entry into both and a free burger (actually a BIG burger) at each place per person – definitely a saving although we had to book our own transport.

Generally, a very well kept park, picturesque, exciting, and a must in my opinion.

    Review of: Playa del Duque

Lovely place to spend a day

very lovely beach, prices for some shade are from 7 Euros to 20 Euros, but no one is stopping you from bringing your own. If you’re with little children, make sure they don’t go to far in, as it can get quite deep rather quickly.

    Great local market

Fascinating local market showcasing the variety and quality of canarian ingredients. The bakeries and butchers on the ground floor are fabulous but the real highlight is the fish market and seafood cafes in the basement. Also a great selection of craft stall. Definitely have lunch in the fish market and make sure you get your parking receipt by a stall owner.

    worth the second try.

We actually had a hard time finding this place! I am not sure why but finally did on our second try. It is a great area to walk around and see the fountain at night with the lights.
The whole area is very touristy but that didn’t change the fun

    Prehistoric Forest

Remmants of a Tertiary Period jungle that has survived to this day due to the particular climate of the Canary Islands. Worth a visit, though the parking spot is tiny! Recommended to get there by bus. There are different length hiking trails for different types of visitors. If you walk quietly, the birds will come spy on you.

Fun few hours! Toddler loved it!

I have a 3 year old and she absolutely adored this place !!
Mixed reviews on here saying too many Guinea pigs and not enough monkeys but we definitely saw monkeys and loved this place !

It’s like an hour and a half max as it’s not overly big but we went around 1pm and had a great time!

Review of: Playa De Las Americas

    Fantastic resort, something for everyone!

Fantastic resort, much improved over the years. It now hosts plenty of designer shops, quality restaurants and pleasant environment. The Golden Mile is no longer tacky and full of drinkers, although the area around Veronica’s Strip seems to have retained its reputation of ‘party central’. The resort seems popular with young families and couples of all ages, making me feel that I wasn’t out of place, and that a rowdy group of ‘hens’ were the exception rather than the rule.

Review of: Park Las Aquilas Jungle Park

    Great Visit

Loved the jungle park there were a wide range of animals to see. On entering you can get photos with parrots which was nice, which you can buy when leaving.

We watched the bird show which was amazing they had a wide range of birds – my fav was the bald eagle. We didn’t manage to see the sealion show.

You get to feed a few animals around the park, there are vending machines where you put in 2 x 1 euros to get a pot of food out. I fed the flamingos which are my fav, which was really nice to do. All the animal feeding stations you need 2 x 1 euro coins – so make sure you have lots.

There was a orchid area which was lovely and very pretty to have a walk around.

The only down side is walking into the Lemurs pen – there are signs saying don’t touch them — lots of people are trying to touch/hold them, the area isn’t the biggest so they got scared and couldn’t hide anywhere! – defiantly need better monitoring/ cameras.

There is a nice size gift shop (quite expensive) but lovely souvenirs. Would recommend coming here.

Cool building, in the centre of the city. Absolutely modern, still interesting and useful for the city. Impossible to be missed, even because seeble from the distance.

The Perfect 3-Days in Tenerife

Perched just a stone’s throw from Africa. Spanish by rule. Portuguese influence. Where tiny villages are nestled at ends of long, sandy beaches, you find every ecosystem from the jungle to the desert, and a mighty volcano stands tall right at the center of it all. This is Tenerife.

Golden sand beaches like the long stretch at Las Teresitas can be found in Tenerife

While Tenerife is the most visited of the seven islands that make up the Spanish archipelago of the Canary Islands, it’s with good reason. Tenerife affords visitors the perfect combination of outdoor adventures, wine and gastronomy, and luxurious resorts to rest your weary body at. There’s a plethora of things to do in Tenerife, making it the perfect long-weekend getaway just about any time of the year for everyone from adrenaline junkies to families.

Pilot whales are year round residents in Tenerife

Day One: Exploring Tenerife’s Marine Life

The Costa Adeje, Tenerife’s south coast, is one of the best places in Europe to see whales and dolphins year round in their natural habitat. With depths reaching down to 2000 meters in the waters between Tenerife and La Gomera, whales and dolphins love the year round food sources and tasty giant squid that they can find to feed off of in the temperate waters.

And it’s not only whales and dolphins that frequent Tenerife’s waters. Five of the world’s seven species of sea turtle are also commonly found in the south-western part of Tenerife. So why some of the world’s best places to swim with sea turtles are undoubtedly Hawaii, Mexico and the Maldives, you can also swim with sea turtles in the Canaries.

Tenerife is home to five of the world’s seven species of sea turtle

Swimming with Sea Turtles

You definitely don’t need to be a diver to enjoy swimming with sea turtles. In fact, one of the first places we swam with groups of sea turtles before getting open water dive certified was in Tenerife. Locals know coves and bays where sea turtles tend to frequent, and a turtle snorkeling tour is worth the trip for a chance to swim among the turtles.

As with any snorkeling or dive excursion, earlier in the day is best for visibility. The cove is clear and calm, with depths from about 2 – 10 meters. It’s a perfect little excursion to see below the surface and find turtles and corals you won’t find just snorkeling off the beaches in front of the hotels.

Pilot whales are pretty social and would come quite close to the boats

A Whale Watching Excursion

The waters around Tenerife are home to year round resident pilot whales and bottlenose dolphins, but from November to February is when migratory whales like humpback whales and blue whales also often pass through Tenerife’s waters. And with the resident pilot whales being night hunters, they tend to rest on the surface during the day. That’s why a whale watching excursion is one of the best things to do in Tenerife.

Between the year round residents and seasonal whales passing through, your chances of seeing whales in Tenerife are actually really high. Most tour companies even say there’s a 99% chance of spotting at least one whale on excursions.

Dolphin and whale watching tours are among the top things to do in Tenerife, so there’s no shortage of tour operators offering excursions. But you should look for a responsible boat that complies with local regulations. That means maintaining a respectable distance from the marine life and not chasing. The Tenerife tourism board developed the “Barco Azul” (Blue Boat Flag) system, awarding responsible boat tour operators with a flag so that visitors can easily identify them.

One of the best operators to go whale watching with is Bahriyeli Collaborating with Sea Shepherd. A portion of the proceeds from every ticket sold goes to Sea Shepherd, an non-profit conservation society who works to protect our oceans. You sail aboard a 23-meter two mast Turkish Gulet, which is an experience in itself.

We definitely weren’t disappointed. Not long after leaving Port Colon, we spotted our first whales of the excursion. Breaking the surface a few meters away is a big black-backed pilot whale. Then there’s more, lazing in the water on the other side of the boat.

Pilot whales seem to have permanently smiling faces. They’re super social, making them fun to watch play, swim, dive and spurt around the boat. The onboard crew is excellent at explaining all the marine life you see along the way.

Teide National Park is a must-visit in Tenerife

Day Two: Exploring Spain’s Highest Mountain

Volcano-obsessed outdoor adventurers like us simply can’t come to the Canary Islands not visit Mount Teide. Rising a staggering 12,200 feet above Tenerife, Mount Teide is Spain’s highest mountain and Europe’s largest volcano. In fact, Mount Teide is the world’s third highest volcano after only Hawaii’s Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea.

A dormant volcano that last erupted in November 1909, Mount Teide is truly worth a visit no matter if you’re just going for the other-worldly drive there through the changing landscape or looking to do a bit of hiking. It’s been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2007 and the volcanic landscape is a photographer’s dream.

The drive along is beautiful, and the ascent up the winding road to Teide National Park is like traveling to another world. As you leave the coastal beaches and climb, the landscape slowly begins to change from black volcanic rock and cacti to an alpine forest, before finally emerging in a lunar-like landscape.

As the most visible landmark in Tenerife and the whole of the Canary Island, Mount Teide has long served as a navigational references for those sailing these waters. And the aboriginal Guanches consider the mountain sacred, holding it in same regard that the ancient Greeks do of Mount Olympus.

Of course, there’s a tale you’ll hear about Mount Teide. As the myth goes, Guayota, who was considered to be the king of evil and the very devil himself, lived inside Teide. Guayote kidnapped Magec, the god of light and sun, and imprisoned him inside of Teide. It was a fiery prison that would have been sheer hell.

The Guanches begged their supreme god, Achamán, for mercy. Achamán fought and defeated Guayota, freeing Magec from the fiery prison of Teide. Achamán then plugged up the volcano, which is said to be the whitish cone visible from just about anywhere in Tenerife. Some even believe that Guayota is still alive in the bowels of Mount Teide.

The Teleférico del Teide delivers visitors practically to Mount Teide’s summit at 3555 meters

Visiting Mount Teide and Teide National Park

Teide National Park itself lies at around 6,562 feet above sea level and is home to the famous rock formations of Los Roques de Garcia, making it one of the most popular places to visit in Tenerife. Throughout the national park you can see the work of thousands and thousands of years of erosion, where wind and grit sculpted strikingly beautiful and eerie shapes out of standing pillars of rock.

You don’t need to be a hiker to enjoy Mount Teide and Teide National Park, either. The best way to reach the highest point of the peak at 3555 meters is by the cable car, Teleférico del Teide. You can even avoid lines by reserving your cable car tickets online in advance.

It takes about 8 minutes and the cable car swoops up visitors to just 200 meters beneath the summit. We were quite literally above the clouds and enjoyed breathtaking views over the islands of Gran Canaria, La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro.

A Can-Am Spyder tour of Teide is a memorable way to explore the national park

Or if taking the cable car up to have a look around just isn’t your cup of tea, you might consider a Teide tour on a Can-Am Spyder 3-wheeled motorcycle for a unique adventure. After a short lesson on how to drive the 3-wheeled motorcycle, you’re off for a ride with spectacular views of Mount Teide.

There’s several stopping points for photo ops, and even a little break for a drink and snack at a local restaurant. It’s definitely a drive you won’t soon forget.

With a permit, you can hike to the summit of Mount Teide at 3718 meters

Hiking Mount Teide

To hike up to the very mouth of the dormant volcano itself, you need a pre-arranged permit and must present the permit along with your passport at the entrance to the trail. The hiking permit to trek to the summit of Teide is limited in order to protect the fragile ecosystem. You can request the permit online in advance, with or with transportation to Teide National Park and with or without cable car. The guides speak Spanish or English.

The trail to the summit of Mount Teide is Nr. 10, the Telesforo Bravo trail. You can reach the summit in a couple of different ways. If you’re short on time but want to trek to the summit, you can take the cable car up to 3555 meters and then hike for around 1 hour to the summit. The full trek from Montaña Blanca at 2320 meters is difficult and takes a full day.

Finally one of the easiest and least expensive options is to book a small group guided Mount Teide trek in which they arrange the permit for you. With this Mount Teide hike, you trek up to the summit from Las Cañadas del Teide, which is around 8 kilometers of hiking. You also have an included picnic lunch at the top before returning back to the departure point by the cable car.

Another option for hiking on Mount Teide without a permit at all is to take the cable car up, then hike down to the Refugio de Altavista. You’ll still experience the beautiful lunar landscape, get quite the workout on the hike back up to the cable car station and enjoy the up-close views of the cone of Mount Teide.

Bodegas Monje has a stunning location

Day Three: Brunch in the Vineyards

Traveling around Tenerife is like you’ve gone to the moon and back, all in an hour’s time. Somewhere between the beach-side villages and the towering volcano in the center of the island are Europe’s highest elevation vineyards.

You simply can’t leave Tenerife without visiting at least one of the island’s wineries. And where better than at Bodegas Monje, where you can enjoy a brunch in the vines in the shadow of Mount Teide.

Tenerife is the largest wine producing island of the Canary Islands. It’s also one of few places untouched by the devastating phylloxera that destroyed 90% of the world’s grape vines. Along with Santorini, Tenerife is a special wine destination because it still possesses its own-rooted vines.

Tenerife, contrary to many myths, actually produces sophisticated wine. They have five DOs (Denominación de Origen) and grown a number of local grape varietals.

Head to the Tacoronte-Acentejo Denominación de Origen to discover Bodegas Monje, a fifth-generation family-run winery. The Tacoronte-Acentejo was the very first Denominación de Origen in the Canary Islands, with its DO designated in 1992.

After a guided tour of the winery to discover the unique terraced vineyards, grape varietals and how the wine is made, you can enjoy a brunch at the winery’s restaurant. Sitting on the terrace with Teide towering in the distance and the vineyards surrounding you is the perfect way to end a trip to Tenerife.

The 5-star hotels is an adults-only retreat

Where to Stay in Tenerife

When it comes to where to stay, we definitely looked to hotels on the beach in Tenerife. There’s nothing better than having the beach on your doorstep in a destination like Tenerife.

Iberostar Selection Sábila is located in the heart of it all along Playa de Torvicas with many restaurants, bars, shops and attractions nearby. It’s an upscale adults-only hotel with a contemporary design, yet totally chill and unpretentious vibe for couples just like us seeking a bit of luxury at the end of the day.

We definitely recommend opting for an ocean-view room. You can also upgrade to the top-floor Star Prestige rooms, which offer additional amenities like private check-in, late-check out and an exclusive rooftop area with a bar, outdoor pool, and complimentary drinks and snacks.

The hotel does have two buffet-style restaurants on site, plus the pool bar that does offer à la carte snacks and gourmet dishes for lunch. These are all good on-site options in case you’re just too relaxed to venture out for lunch or dinner.

There’s also an on-site spa offering a variety of massages, facials and body treatments. Planning some time in for a trip to the spa is perfect for soothing those tired muscles after adventures on Tenerife like hiking Mount Teide and snorkeling.

30 Things to do on Holiday in Tenerife

Known locally as the ‘Land of Eternal Spring’, sun-seekers have been flocking to Tenerife for years in search of its world-class beaches and bars. But look a little closer, and this small Spanish island has so much more to offer.

The largest of the seven Canary Islands, Tenerife attracts roughly five million tourists a year- and it’s not hard to see why. From mountains to monkeys, night dives to nightlife, history, culture, festivals and fiestas… There really is something for everyone.

Mount Teide Flickr © er Guiri

So where is Tenerife? Located roughly 100 kilometers west of Morocco, the island benefits from warm, sunny weather all year round. Strong trade winds off the Atlantic make it a world-class spot for surfing and windsurfing, whilst the (dormant) volcano at its center, Mt. Teide, provides one of the most diverse landscapes in the world.

Start your day lounging on a tropical beach, or hike to a hidden hilltop village and sample the local delicacy ‘papas arrugadas’ (‘wrinkly potatoes’). Maybe take in the stunning views whilst paragliding off a snowy mountain peak, or explore the coast by kayak and take a dive with turtles. Finish sipping cocktails on the sand before you dance the night away with the locals in a Latin bar.

Still wondering what to do in Tenerife? Then take a look below. To help you navigate this enchanting island, we’ve compiled a comprehensive list of the best of Tenerife. Now all you have to do is get there and find somewhere to stay.

Here is a Google Map of all the places mentioned in this article, to help you plan your trip. Click the icon on the top left to filter by type – excursion, beach, attraction etc

1. Mount Teide Volcano

Standing at nearly 4,000 meters, Mount Teide is the highest peak in Spain, and the third highest volcano in the world. Its three lookout points offer fantastic views of Tenerife and its neighboring islands. If you can haul yourself out of bed in time, we recommend getting up there for sunrise to witness the surreal spectacle of the mountain’s shadow stretching across the island. Bad weather? On hazy days the ‘sea of cloud’ below you is just as majestic and still well worth the trip. You can do guided walks to the peak (which take around 6 hours and are not for the faint-hearted) or take a cable car (€27 adults, €13.50 children). If you do fancy daring a visit to the mouth of the volcano, you’ll need to apply for a permit beforehand from the national park’s office in Orotava.

2. Teide National Park

Mount Teide National Park via Flickr © cortto

For the ultimate Tenerife excursion, make for the Teide National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the most visited national park in Europe. From the luscious forests of the lava plains of La Esperanza to the lunar volcanic rock formations such as the Roques de García, it is one of the most bio-diverse places in the world. The activities on offer are almost as varied as the landscape, and include walking tours, private jeep safaris, night-time star-gazing trips and winery tours.

3. Punta de Teno Peninsula

This rugged, rocky headland ten kilometers from Buenavista is the most westerly point on the island, and a great place to get away from the crowds and blow away the cobwebs with a bit of bracing sea air. Admire the active lighthouse perched precipitously on the rocks, or relax on the bay and enjoy stunning views of La Gomera, La palma and the Teno Mountains. A word of warning: Check the forecast before you go as the road there is closed in bad weather.

4. Los Gigantes Cliffs

Los Gigantes via Flickr © dmytrok

Literally translated as the ‘cliffs of the giants’, these magnificent cliffs tower between 500-800 meters above the sea. The Guanches (Tenerife’s earliest settlers) referred to the spot as the ‘Wall of Hell’, and it certainly is a fearsome view to behold. Soak up the scenery as part of a day trip to Los Gigantes town, where you can also arrange snorkeling, diving, kayaking, paddle-boarding and dolphin and whale-watching trips around the cliffs.

5. Masca Hilltop Village and Trek

Masca Hilltop Village via © Flickr Ronny Siegel

The ‘lost village’ of Masca is a remote hilltop community nestled amidst dramatic mountain scenery. Arrive early to avoid the crowds and find the start of the Masca Gorge Trek, a 3-hour walk down to Masca Bay. From here you can brave the climb back up or book a boat trip back to Los Gigantes. Guided treks are available.

6.

Hiking in the Anaga Mountains

Hiking in the Anaga Mountains via © Flickr Javier Sanchez Portero

If you’re looking for something off the tourist trail, head to to the Anaga Mountains in the north east of the island. Formed by a volcanic eruption 7-9 million years ago, this prehistoric mountain range is the oldest part of the island, and a trip here feels like stepping back in time to another world. There’s even a village (El Bailadero) named after a coven of witches rumored to have danced around fires there. Hike from Benijo to the Roques de Anaga, two rocky outcrops in the sea with geological and ecological importance, or try and find the elusive Roque de Bermejo boat community, only accessible by a three-hour hike.

7. Drago Milenario Tree

Drago Milenario Tree via © Flickr Miguel Ángel García.

No trip to Tenerife would be complete without a glimpse at the Drago Milenario (‘Dragon Tree’), the national symbol of the island. So-called because of its red resin, which looks like ‘dragon’s blood’ and is reputed to have numerous medicinal benefits, it has been revered by the local community for centuries. This particular tree, rumored to be 1,000 years old, is the oldest of the kind on the island. You can see it- alongside a collection of other endemic species- in the Parque del Drago Gardens (or stand in the square beside the Church of San Marco for a free vantage point).

8. Scuba Diving and Snorkeling

Scuba diving and snorkeling in Tenerife via © Flickr Leon Wilson

Temperate, crystal clear waters and fascinating volcanic rock formations make Tenerife a diver’s dream. The island has a huge range of diving centers offering various trips for all abilities, from introductory courses for children, PADI courses for pros or just boat trips for those who want to tag along but are afraid to dip their toes in. Brave a night dive into the depths, snorkel with turtles in Los Gigantes or explore a maze of underwater caves and shipwrecks. Or all three.

9. Loro Parque Zoo

Loro Parque via © Flickr MarinoCarlos

Loro Parque is a zoo with a difference. This 13. 5-hectare attraction in the north of Tenerife boasts an aquarium with seven themed exhibits, a ‘Thai Village’, an orchid garden and an adventure playground for children. If that’s not enough to keep you occupied for the day, check out one of the sea life shows (featuring dolphins, orcas and sea lions) or get ‘up close and personal’ with birds from Asia and Australia in the Katandra Treetop Walkway. Open every day; tickets €34 for adults and €23 for children.

10. Siam Park

Siam Park via © Flickr steve p2008

Winner of the ‘2015 Tripadvisor Traveller’s Choice Award for Best Water Park’, Siam Park, a Thailand-themed water park located in the south of Tenerife, does not disappoint. Europe’s biggest water park is also home to the biggest artificial waves in the world (at over three meters high) as well as an artificial beach, river rapids and a sea lion island. Tickets are €34 for adults and €23 for children.

11. Las Águilas Jungle Park

Looking for things to do in Costa Adeje? Spend the day at Jungle Park, hanging out with big cats and monkeys, whizzing down a dry bobsleigh track or meandering along a rope walkway suspended in the trees. There are regular bird shows featuring birds of prey, macaws, talking parrots and horn bills, as well as a ‘sea lion encounter’ (€45 for 30-40 minutes). You can even arrange to have surprise photos taken of your loved ones whilst you concentrate on enjoying yourselves. Good old-fashioned fun for all the family.

12. Lago Martiánez

Lago Martiánez via © Flickr Jose Mesa

Make like Winston Churchill, Elizabeth Taylor and the Beatles and spend a day relaxing at César Manrique’s Lago Martianez, an incredible one kilometer stretch of artificial seawater pools, three beaches, gardens and terraces. Lanzarote artist Martianez has created a unique space that reflects the dynamic natural environment of Tenerife, complete with features like a ‘water volcano’ and a geyser. Everything here has been meticulously thought out and is fascinating to look at, from the upside-down eucalyptus trees (‘Las Raíces Al Cielo’, or ‘The Roots to Heaven’) to the solid blocks of undulating concrete that act as fitting tribute to the ever-present Atlantic (‘Monumento al Mar o a las Olas’, or Monument to the Sea or Waves’). Entrance is €5.50 for adults and €2.50 for children, but many hotels in the local area offer discounts.

13. Garachico and Bajamar Natural Swimming Pools

Garachico Natural Swimming Pools via © Flickr Oliver Clarke

For a bracing dip in the Atlantic, it doesn’t get better than the Garachico Pools in El Caletón. Created following the 1706 volcanic eruption, these lava rock pools are a great place to immerse yourself in nature without taking a battering from the elements. There are steps, walkways and diving points to ease you into the crystal clear waters, which are perfect for snorkeling (or just floating around admiring the views of La Culata Cliffs and the 16th century San Miguel Castle). A word of warning: the pools are cordoned off during high tide in spring and autumn. Bajamar Pools provides a family-friendly alternative, with two man-made saltwater pools next to the ocean and a sandy beach protected from the waves. Entrance is free and there is lifeguard supervision.

14. San Cristóbal de la Laguna

San Cristóbal de la Laguna via © Flickr Ale Dios Padilla

Another one on the endless list of UNESCO World Heritage Sites to be found in Tenerife, the city of San Cristóbal de la Laguna is packed full of important historical and cultural sites. Marvel at the beautifully preserved mansions of the old-quarter, or swot up on your local knowledge in the Museum of the History of Tenerife (there is free entrance to the permanent exhibition on Fridays and Saturdays). For a taste of the ‘real Tenerife’, check out the farmer’s market at Plaza del Cristo. The town also boasts a lively student community and is known for its vibrant nightlife and tapas bars. Calle Herradores, a pedestrianized street filled with shops, bars and restaurants, is the place to be in the evening.

15. Golfing in Tenerife Sur

For golfing holidays in Costa Adeja, look no further than Golf del Sur Tenerife. Nestled between the Las Cañadas National Park and the Atlantic Ocean, this 27-hole complex boasts fantastic views of the sea, La Gomera and the Adeje mountains. In case you’re so blown away by the scenery, the black volcanic sand bunkers remind you where you are. With a driving range, putting green, tennis courts, shop and restaurant, this place has everything you need to enjoy a few rounds of golf with friends. 18 holes from €57-86, 9 holes from €35-51.

16. Auditorio de Tenerife

Auditorio de Tenerife via © Flickr Till Krech

Dubbed the ‘Sydney of the Atlantic’, The Auditorio de Tenerife has become the island’s architectural icon, and is the most photographed view in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The brainchild of architect Santiago Calatrava Valls, the ambitious structure features a huge wave-like arch that appears to defy gravity. It becomes particularly impressive at night when it is lit with bright white light. Home to the Tenerife Symphony Orchestra, it also has ballets, dance shows, musicals, operas, comedy and gospel concerts. You can grab tickets for as little as €5.

17. Mirador de Humboldt Viewpoint

Mirador de Humboldt Viewpoint via © Flickr Rafolas

“I own that I have never beheld a prospect more varied, more attractive, more harmonious […] than the western coast of Tenerife”. Apt then, that this fantastic viewpoint should be named after Alexander von Humboldt, who penned these words after an inspiring visit here in 1799. Lying on the northern edge of the La Orotava Valley, the vantage point takes in the sea, sloping valley and the snow-capped Mt. Teide. It’s still relatively unknown to tourists, so go now. It’s open daily and has a lovely cafe, restaurant and a shop.

18. Kitesurfing and Windsurfing on El Médano Beach

Kitesurfing and Windsurfing on El Médano Beach via © Flickr Jose Mesa

Thanks to some hefty trade winds blowing in from the Atlantic, El Medano is one of the best surfing and windsurfing spots in the world, and has played host to several worldwide competitions. The town is conveniently located beside the two largest natural beaches on the island, Playa Tejita and Playa Grande, and has gained a reputation as the most laid-back of Tenerife’s resorts -think beach shacks and happy hippies. If you’re new to the waves but fancy your luck as a pro rider, there’s a huge range of schools to choose from offering lessons for all abilities. Red Rock Surf will even attach a Go Pro to your board so you can capture the moment you crash into the oncoming waves.

19. Teresitas Beach in Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Teresitas Beach in Santa Cruz de Tenerife via © Flickr vil.sandi

Lying just a 20-minute drive from the capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Teresitas Beach is perfect for those looking for a bit of respite away from the hustle and bustle of the city. It’s one of the few beaches in Tenerife to have yellow sand, and though it’s busy at the weekend, visit in the week and you’ll be sure to find space to stretch out and sunbathe. Join in with a volleyball game or a yoga class, or simply sit back and relax in one of the seafood restaurants lining the beach.

20. El Bollullo Beach in La Orotava

Not as easily-accessible as some of the other beaches in Tenerife, Playas Bollullo is great place to get away from the crowds. You can drive there from Puerto de la Cruz, or brave a 40-minute walk along the coastal path through a banana plantation. You can reward yourself when you get there with a drink and a snack in the beach bar and restaurant.

21. Playa de las Americas Beach

Playa de las Americas Beach via © Flickr Mate Marschalko

Playa de las Americas enjoys year-round sun, and as a result has quickly become one of Tenerife’s most popular resorts. The four beaches, Playa de Torviscas, El Camisón, La Pinta and Playa del Bobo, are all well-served by the town and have great facilities. With calm waters and yellow sand, they are perfect for sunbathers and paddlers alike. Scuba diving, windsurfing and jet-skiing are all on offer, as well as whale and dolphin cruises and even submarine trips to the seabed.

22. Playa el Duque Beach in Costa Adeje

Known as the classiest of Tenerife’s beaches, Playa el Duque is lined with boutiques and swanky tapas bars. The beach itself has a relaxed, calm atmosphere, and the town is largely made up of 4 and 5* hotels. If you fancy treating yourself, this is the place for you. Playa de las Americas is only a 15-minute drive away for when you’re ready to venture back into reality.

23. Playa Paraiso Beach in Costa Adeje

The yellow sand beach of Playa Paraiso has been recently renovated, and is an ideal place for snorkeling and diving due to the clear waters along this rocky stretch of coastline. Don’t leave without a trip to the popular saltwater lido (€6 each or €12 for a family ticket).

24. Playa la Caleta in Costa Adeje

This lovely pebble beach is situated beside a quiet fishing village with several low-key restaurants and bars to choose from. It’s a great place for kids, as the calm waters are ideal for snorkeling and there’s ladders in several places where you can jump into the sea. You can walk here from Playa de las Americas and continue along the coastal path to discover several quiet coves, sandy beaches and Hippy Bay.

25. Playa de Benijo Beach in Anaga

Playa de Benijo Beach in Anaga via © Flickr Xoan Sampaiño

You won’t find any sun loungers or umbrellas here. This wild, secluded beach in the protected area of the Anaga Mountain Range on Tenerife’s north east coast is not for your average day-tripper. Only accessible via a windy mountain road, this black sand beach is backed by cliffs and pounded by gigantic waves. Expect fantastic views of the Roques de Anaga on this blissfully secluded nudist beach, and experience Tenerife like the locals.

26. Papagayo & Monkey Beach in Las Americas

Monkey Beach

Playa de Las Americas is Tenerife’s answer to Ibiza, and nowhere more so than Papagayo, the hottest beach bar in town. Cocktails and dancing are the order of the day in this swanky venue decked out with white sofas and palm trees. It wouldn’t be hard to forego the beach and spend all day here, as the place effortlessly moves from daytime chilled vibes to raucous party by night (cocktails around €7.50). Just 300 metres away is another firm favorite on the Playa de las Americas nightlife scene, Monkey Beach. Simply walk from your sunbed to the bar and enjoy fantastic views overlooking Playa Troya and La Gomera. Without doubt the best place in town to enjoy the sunset.

Papagayo Beach Club

27. Blanco Bar & Limbo in Puerto de la Cruz

“Like Alice in Wonderland after a swig of the ‘Drink Me’ bottle” – a fitting description for Tenerife’s newest nightlife destination. Puerto de la Cruz has not always been the party-goers city of choice, but as a result has benefited from the freedom to develop away from the ‘booze cruise’ crowd, and is now home to a whole host of cool venues. Start your night with a live band, theater or comedy sketch in Blanco Bar, and wind up in Limbo, a rooftop bar accessible through an old colonial-style courtyard. Popular among the city’s young crowd, there’s always a serious party to be had here.

Blanco Bar

28. Calle la Noria in Santa Cruz de Tenerife

Calle Noria is the place to be in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. You’ll feel like you’ve hopped across the Atlantic to Havana in this pedestrianized street filled with palm trees and brightly colored buildings. Extending from La Plaza de la Iglesia de la Concepción, the area is popular with the post-work crowd and is filled with cafes and restaurants serving the finest local cuisine. It’s easy to spend your whole evening here, sitting watching the street performers and wandering in and out of quirky bars until the early hours.

29. Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival

Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival via © Flickr Philippe Teuwen

Second only to Rio Janeiro as the most well-known and popular carnival in the world, the Santa Cruz de Tenerife Carnival is an eclectic mix of exotic costumes, shows, parades, and boisterous parties day and night. Get swept up in the hedonistic atmosphere of this most beloved celebration, where normal taboos disappear and everything goes. With a different fancy dress theme each year (past years have included ‘Bollywood’, ‘circus’, space odyssey’ and ‘magic’) the town explodes in a riot of color and creativity that has to be seen to be believed. The carnival is held every February and lasts for almost three weeks- but if you’ve still not had your fill, hang around for Piñata weekend, the closing weekend and the last chance to party. Until next year…

30. Romeria de la Orotava Festival

La Orotava Romeria festival (an annual religious pilgrimage) is one of the biggest in the area, and sees the whole community come together to create carpets out of flowers which are then used to adorn the streets and mark the route of the parade. Plaza del Ayuntamiento plays host to an enormous carpet covering over 900 square metres, made entirely out of different colored volcanic sand and depicting three different biblical scenes. The locals, decked out in traditional Canarian outfits, hand out free food and wine- remember your ‘vaso de romería’ (a wine glass held round your neck by a string) to make the most of the generous top-ups. Don’t miss this chance to immerse yourself in the local culture and witness a sight most tourists never see.

what to do in October and November?

The editors of Hiking Tenerife have written a selection of unusual and very atmospheric entertainment for the autumn Tenerife. Try any of these entertainments and your vacation will be very cool and unforgettable.

Autumn is a magical and beautiful time in the Canary Islands. The water in the ocean is still warm, and the island is already starting to turn green! In addition to the classic beach holiday in the south, a lot of entertainment is added in the fall, which we will talk about in this article.

1. Walk under the shade of chestnuts

With the onset of November, the slopes of the mountains of the northern part of the island of Tenerife turn yellow and are covered with “hedgehogs” – prickly shells in which chestnuts are located.
Walk along the chestnut route to enjoy the delights of northern Tenerife in autumn. Chestnuts can also be found on other paths: in Anaga, near Guimar, near Tacoronte, near Puerto de la Cruz.

Don’t forget that Hiking Tenerife magazine has a selection from 19the best itineraries in Tenerife. Explore the most beautiful trails in the Canary Islands with trusted guides, handpicked by us. The impressions of the hike will be the strongest of your entire holiday. You can apply via the link.

2. Get scared on Halloween night

While vacationing in Tenerife at the end of October – beginning of November, do not forget to prepare a costume for celebrating the Night of the Dead. Go to one of the parties that take place everywhere. The choice is large from family restaurants and hotels to nightclubs.

If you don’t want to overeat with sweets and drink alcohol, you can tickle your nerves in the sports mode. Hike in the Teide caldera or the forests of Anaga by moonlight! Pass through a beautiful haunted forest, making a halt where the narrator will tell the tales of the dead.
Very atmospheric and safe.

3. Explore the Andromeda Galaxy

Late autumn will not be able to look at the Milky Way. He will change his position in the sky.

But do not worry, because in October – November, in the night sky, lovers of astronomy and astrophotography observe the Andromeda galaxy!

This is the brightest galaxy available even to an amateur telescope. Finding it is not difficult, look between Cassiopeia and Pegasus. The Andromeda Galaxy appears in the eastern part of the sky and then moves through the night to the west.

How unique is this opportunity? Everyone decides for himself =). Recall that our Milky Way galaxy is 100,000 light years in diameter with 350 billion stars. And we have the opportunity to look at the same neighbor. Omg!

In addition to Andromeda, many interesting constellations can be seen in autumn, and the road to astrotourism is a pleasure in itself. Of course, you need a good telescope (not an entry-level one!) And a guide who is in love with space =).

Even if you don’t come to Tenerife in autumn, be sure to go stargazing and take beautiful pictures of the night sky over the Canary Islands!

4. Collect mushrooms

After the rains that come to the islands in October-November and several warm days, the mushroom season begins in Tenerife. The best place is the Teide caldera and the mountains above Arafo and Candelaria. You arrive in the area of Las Lagunetas and Esperanza, park your car and go in search.

Mushroom picking in Tenerife can be a good excuse to take an interesting walk through the autumn forest and enjoy the beautiful scenery with views of the Teide volcano.

If you have a keen eye, you can cook mushrooms with Canarian potatoes for dinner. But be careful, now for the official collection of mushrooms you need to get permission from the authorities.
Click here for more information about the Tenerife Mushroom Route.

5. Enjoy the waterfalls

After heavy autumn rains, the water again flows through ravines and gorges! It’s time for routes along the filling streams.

An excellent option for contemplating the water surface is the route around the ponds of Erjos and the ascent to the mountains of Monte del Agua.

After the autumn rains, very beautiful in the northwest of Tenerife in the areas of Buenavista del Norte and Teno.

Do not miss the real beauty? Ask a trusted guide what to watch in October-November. There are many beautiful places and impressions on the island, and timing is also important.

In one season the area can be dry and uninteresting, and in another blooming, with unreal clouds and fresh fruits =). This is the reality of Tenerife and one of the reasons why we love so much. It is important to know the time, place and action. We have selected the best Russian-speaking guides in Tenerife for excursions and we are sure that with them you will fall in love with the island. Guest reviews confirm this =).

6. Taste new wine

The end of November is the time to try the local wines of the new harvest. In addition, order roasted chestnuts and young cheeses.

In Tenerife we were lucky to have a large selection of unusual wines. There are few tempranillo grapes, the main one for Spain, but many indigenous varieties. The main vine of Tenerife: red Negramoy (aka listan negro), Tintiyya (aka tinto, also a relative of tempranillo) and white Listan Blanca, La Verdeio, La Gual.

The main feature is high mineral content. A vine grows on a volcano, for a moment. This is the minerality you need to taste in the wines of Tenerife. Don’t expect the volume, flavor, and fullness of a traditional tempranillo or cabernet sauvignon.

For tastings, head to the areas where the vine is grown. The main one is Tacoronte Acentejo, smaller areas are La Orotava Valley, Tegueste, Icod de los Vinos and Flor de Chasna in Vilaflor. Stop at the bodegas you like (it’s better to know the places, of course) and start tasting the young vintage of wine!

7. Explore the Geminids

Another magical adventure for lovers of nature, space, stars and the night sky! Everyone has heard about the Perseids, but few people know about a similar spectacle – the Geminid stream.

While the Perseids are best viewed in late August, the Geminids fly past Earth in mid-December, a great activity before New Year’s Eve in Tenerife.

More than 120 meteors fly by in an hour! Geminids is one of the most powerful meteor showers.

This year, the maximum intensity of meteorites over Tenerife falls on the period from December 11th to 16th. Such beauty is worth it to endure the cold in the mountains =).

Be sure to bring a thermos and all warm clothes!

If you are a photography enthusiast, we strongly recommend you take a meteorite photography workshop!

8. Adrenaline in San Andrés

Tradition and adrenaline mix at a party in the town of Icod de los Vinos. At the end of November, there is a spectacular holiday – Las Tablas de San Andres. During Las Tablas de San Andreas, all of Tenerife gathers in Icod de los Vinos, drinking new wine and eating chestnuts.

The main feature of this romeria is children and adults sledging through the streets of the city, crashing into mountains of old tires.

Great entertainment for outdoor enthusiasts.

Here is a selection for you by the editors of Hiking Tenerife magazine! Did you enjoy autumn? We will be glad if you leave your comment under the rating. We put a lot of effort into writing it. And read about winter in Tenerife!

Tenerife weather in October

September passed the baton of good weather to October. The air is still warm enough for excursions and visiting the beach, and the ocean has not yet had time to cool down for the first month of autumn, and swimming in such water will be a pleasure for adults and children. The low season in Tenerife attracts travelers who love not so much a beach holiday as new experiences from visiting unexplored places.

Weather in Tenerife in October

In October, autumn in Tenerife gradually comes into its own, especially in the last quarter of the month. The average air temperature during the day will be +26, which is a couple of degrees lower than its average in September. The nights are getting longer and a little cooler – the air cools down to about +19. In the evening, warm clothes will not interfere.

The northern part of the island is already blowing with might and main autumn winds, bringing coolness and precipitation, but there are few of them in the southern resorts of Tenerife, so it is warmer on the beach and in the ocean. In October, it rains more often – about 5 times a month, but for the inhabitants of central Europe, this is still not bad weather. If during a holiday in Tenerife there was a bad day, tourists can always visit the sights of the island.

Beach holidays

Warm weather and ocean water that has not cooled down completely make October a real velvet season on the beaches of Tenerife. The hot days are still enough to get a good tan, and don’t forget to wear a panama at noon. And if on some day the weather does not set you up for a beach holiday, you can just stroll along the well-maintained beaches of Tenerife and admire the picturesque landscapes of the ocean coast.

The water temperature in Tenerife in October is still quite comfortable for swimming – about +23. The water warms up especially well in the bays in shallow water. Toward the end of the month for swimming in the ocean, it becomes cool. Couples with children usually choose 4-5 star hotels with a heated pool.

What to do in Tenerife in October

After a day of relaxation on the beach, both single and family tourists go to amusement parks and amusement parks. The October weather, no longer hot and comfortable, allows you to spend more than one hour in the park. Guests of Puerte de la Cruz and their children will find a huge zoo with many exotic animals: tigers, crocodiles, lions and parrots. The famous water park Siam Park, built in oriental style, attracts tourists with the longest “slow river” in the world.

Despite the small size of the island, there are many varied landscapes, colorful and unusual. Visit the real alpine meadows located near La Laguna or the area of Bosca overgrown with impenetrable forest. Curious travelers prefer to visit the Hell’s Gorge, a popular nature reserve, or climb the Teide volcano. Just do not forget warm clothes and check the weather forecast in advance. in October, frosts are possible in the volcano area, and at sub-zero temperatures at the top, the funicular does not work.

The centuries-old history of the island has left an indelible mark on its appearance. Tourists will be interested in visiting the historical sights of Tenerife, such as the Basilica of the Virgin Mary of Candelaria or the medieval Canarian village of Masca, starting from it on a hiking trip through the gorge of the same name.

A warm October in Tenerife will allow fans to actively spend their holidays indulge in their favorite sport: diving, windsurfing or golf. Accompaniment and assistance to tourists is provided on the tropical island by numerous sports centers, as well as specialized hotel services. Training sessions are organized for beginners.

Festivals and celebrations in Tenerife in October

One of the main events in the cultural life of Tenerife in October is the opening of the opera season. Theatrical performances during this cultural event are held at the world-famous Auditorio de Tenerife Opera House. This unique building is one of the symbols of the Canary Islands.

October 12 in Tenerife is considered a public holiday – the Day of the Discovery of America. It was from this island of the Canary archipelago that Christopher Columbus set out to look for a new route to India, and discovered a new continent. The holiday is celebrated on a grand scale and not only in the capital of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, but also in other cities of the island. This day is a day off, so many shops, restaurants and cafes are closed on October 12.

In October, the capital’s Himera Theater hosts participants and guests of the popular magic festival. During the month, many cities in Tenerife also host local holidays that tourists enjoy visiting, for example, the Folklore Festival in Adeje.

The cost of holidays in Tenerife in October

In mid-autumn, the demand for the southern resorts of the island is quite high – due to the good climate in October, there are few alternative options in Europe for those who want to relax in an ocean resort and admire historical sights. If you want to save money, then go to the north coast. There are noticeably fewer tourists there, and vacation prices are somewhat lower than on the south coast of Tenerife. We also recommend early booking of tours – this allows you to save up to 30%.

Where you can swim and sunbathe abroad in November

Today Aviamania will tell you very interesting information about Where you can swim and sunbathe abroad in November. Let’s start)

Where in November you can swim and sunbathe abroad

In fact, the beach season does not end with the arrival of autumn. Even if the weather is getting colder in your latitudes, this does not mean that it is the same everywhere. There are places in the world where it is beautiful in the rainiest autumn month.

As you understand, the key point of our article is foreign resorts.

Tour in November on the sea or independent travel

Here, of course, you decide. Our task is to tell you about the main differences.

The tour will probably cost you less, but you will be within the package. We mean that starting from an organized flight and transfer, your group will be waiting for you everywhere. There will be no adventures in finding your bus and there will be no language barrier in the apartment. But maybe you don’t need it) Aviamania is resolutely in favor of independent travel, which we are trying to persuade our readers to do. Let’s go further.

Where you can swim and sunbathe abroad in November:

    TOP Airmania

    UAE is expensive rich

The United Arab Emirates wants to include 99% of travelers in their travel list. So why not do it in November? This is a very good choice of the month, as the sweltering heat is in the past, and the warm winter has not yet arrived. You can swim, spend money in numerous shopping centers and restaurants. Of course, the country has many interesting sights that you can visit. It is more profitable to buy a tour so that you make sure where you can swim and sunbathe abroad in November.

    Thailand is not Asian exotic

Many years ago, Thailand was considered a hard dream to realize, now it is a reality. The country is affectionately known as Tai, and November marks the start of the season. The thing is that the rainy season is just coming to an end, and prices do not bite. A nice bonus – no visa required! So, where can you swim and sunbathe abroad in November? That’s right, in Thailand you can and should!

Israel – on the Red and Dead

When choosing this country rich in cultural and religious attractions, keep in mind the choice of location. The Mediterranean Sea in November is already cold, rare tourists can swim in it. But to soak up the Dead Sea or swim in the Red, it is quite possible. You don’t need a visa, you don’t have to fly very far. Where in November you can swim and sunbathe abroad – on the Red and Dead Seas, do not choose the Mediterranean!

    Sri Lanka is getting closer

Of course, in a figurative sense, because it is very far to fly there. This is a minus, but there are also pluses. There is a very beautiful nature and not crazy prices. True, the level of service may seem insufficient to you, especially after the UAE)) Sri Lanka is rich in natural attractions and interesting excursions. Here you have trips to tea plantations and overnight stays in the jungle, oh, romance. Where in November you can swim and sunbathe abroad, so it’s here!

    Hainan – Asian Canary Islands

It’s no coincidence that we named this Chinese resort so strangely. The fact is that Hainan is always comfortable, as well as its European “brother” Tenerife. But the differences between the islands of eternal spring are also significant. Hainan has Asian cuisine and exotic nature. The warm sea cannot be compared with the cold Atlantic, so it will be comfortable here with children. The rainy season just ends in November, so it’s time to plan your trip.

    Canary Islands

Well, here we are) And, please note, it’s not just about Tenerife, which everyone is obsessed with. Many do not even know about the existence of other islands of the Canary archipelago. By the way, they are inhabited, if anything) In general, Aviamania has been on three Canary Islands and more than once. Most liked on Lanzarote . Gran Canaria impresses with sand dunes, like in the Sahara desert, but without scorpions. Tenerife is good, but too touristy.

    Cuba or Dominican Republic

We can say that we are comparing the uncomparable. But no, we offer a choice. Cuba and the Dominican Republic are similar only in that they are in the Caribbean and are similar in weather conditions, respectively. Then the differences begin, which the inquisitive tourist will see. In the 5 * hotel zone, everything is luxury and at the highest level, but if you see the life of ordinary residents … We will not go into details, if you have the funds for an expensive vacation and a long-distance flight, then go for it. I have not met anyone dissatisfied with my vacation in Punta Cana. Impressions from Cuba can be different .. By the way, if we talk about the Dominican Republic, we published an article about which resort is better Punta Cana or Boca Chica .

    Egypt all

    inclusive

If you don’t mind just swimming and sunbathing, then the resorts of Egypt are suitable. We will not be able to enthusiastically write about this country, because we have not been, and do not want to, to be honest. There are many reasons for this, although there are even more tourists who annually come to the resorts of Egypt for “all inclusive”. It’s up to you) If you decide, then keep in mind that sunbathing and swimming in November is more comfortable in the resort of Sharm El Sheikh. Not because it is richer and cooler than Hurghada, no. You just like less windy and warmer weather more.

Where you can swim and sunbathe abroad with children in November

Of the listed countries, children will not feel comfortable in the Canary Islands, since the water temperature in the Atlantic Ocean is cold, and the ocean itself is not for children. In other cases, decide depending on the interests of you and your children. You can choose, after all, a hotel with a swimming pool in any country. But then the question is: why go to the sea? Then a European resort with a comfortable air temperature will suit you) By the way, we wrote about one of these resorts, and even with thermal water, in a recent article .

Don’t forget to subscribe to YouTube channel Aviamaniya and click on the bell. Recently there was Montenegro , and soon you will find Tallinn , Budapest and Amsterdam!

    Tenerife’s 7 best photography spots

Tenerife, the Canary Islands… Probably the first thing that comes to mind when you hear these words is the beaches and the sun. However, Tenerife is also beautiful nature and gorgeous landscapes . And today I want to talk about the best places for photography in Tenerife, and at the same time give a couple of practical tips.

In total, I spent several months in Tenerife and during this time traveled to many locations on the island. The ones I’ll talk about below are just the tip of the iceberg. However, it was they that I liked the most, and I recommend visiting them first.

    Contents

    [hide]

We suggest starting our tour of Tenerife from Alcalá, a small town in the west of Tenerife. I’m pretty sure most of you haven’t even heard of it, but in my personal rating, Alcala is one of the top spots.

    Alcala sunset surf

It’s a pleasure to be here. There are almost no tourists around, and along the coast there is a beautiful promenade , which is great for walking along the ocean or having dinner at sunset.

As for photography, here Alcala will find something to surprise you. The rugged and rocky coastline offers real scope for experimentation.

Here, indoor volcanic pools with still water and mirror reflections peacefully coexist with violent surf, waves and splashes . And this landscape is by no means static, it is constantly changing with the weather and the tide cycle.

    Sunset in Alcala

I have been to Alcala many times and always found something new and interesting. You can and should come back here, especially considering that from the south of Tenerife it is only 20 minutes to .

This made Alcala my default destination. I often came here on those days when there was no time or desire to look for something else.

From Alcala we go north, to the mountains near Los Gigantes, where one of the most picturesque places in Tenerife is located – Masca Gorge.

Masca Gorge is one of the deepest in Tenerife. Its depth is more than a kilometer. A popular hiking trail leads down the gorge from the village of the same name high in the mountains to a bay hidden from prying eyes on the shore down the gorge.

    Sunset over the Masca Gorge

It is said that pirates once used this trail to smuggle smuggling into Tenerife unnoticed. I can’t vouch for the authenticity of the story, but how do you know – maybe somewhere in the mountains there still lies an undiscovered pirate treasure?

It is worth mentioning here that in 2018, the local authorities of decided to close route for safety reasons. It happened after a group of tourists got stuck on the trail during a storm and had to be rescued.

However, from the spring of 2021, the slope is again open to everyone, albeit with some restrictions.

However, I will somehow tell about this unique haik separately, but for now let’s get back to the gorge. Indeed, in order to admire its beauty, it is not at all necessary to go somewhere.

The village of Masca can also be reached by car. The road is narrow and winding and many even call it one of the most dangerous in Spain.

The road to Maska in the rays of the sunset

To be honest, I don’t quite agree with this. Even in Tenerife, in my opinion, there are steeper slopes here and there. However, if you have no experience of driving on serpentines, be careful.

But I can promise you one thing for sure – the magnificent mountain landscapes of Maska will not leave anyone indifferent. Especially in the afternoon, when the soft sunset sun magically illuminates the majestic slopes.

To the north of Masca is Tenerife’s westernmost point, Punta de Teno. Few people know about it either, but it is definitely worth a visit.

True, for many drivers the way to Punta de Teno will be a real test of courage . You have to drive several kilometers along a mountain serpentine winding along a steep cliff into the ocean.

Sunset panorama of Punta de Teno

As in the case of Masca, the road is not for the faint of heart, but incredibly picturesque. So much so that it was even used in one of the racing scenes in the movie Fast and Furious 6.

Not so long ago, a section of the highway collapsed into the ocean, and the passage was closed for repairs for a long time. Now the connection has been restored, but from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekends, only buses and taxis are allowed to move. So is better to go in the evening or during the working week .

Punta de Teno has a lighthouse and a small beach that is very popular with the locals. Canarians come here to relax, swim, sunbathe and have a picnic against the backdrop of the cliffs of Los Gigantes.

Well, for a photographer, in addition to the lighthouse, there are many rocks and small bays. Just walk along the coast – something interesting is sure to turn up.

Fiery sunset over Punta de Teno

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to get close to the lighthouse – the road is blocked by massive gates. It remains to take pictures from a hill on the left, or, as the locals do, get inside along the rocks from the side.

However, the last one is solely at your own risk . Falling far and painful, not to mention the dubious legality of the whole undertaking. Think for yourself, but for me it’s easier to launch a drone.

And more. Punta de Teno is quite crowded during the day, but few people stay here in the evening. Therefore, be on the lookout and, as everywhere in Spain, do not leave anything valuable in the car.

Playa Benijo is probably the most popular place among photographers in Tenerife. This beach is located in the northeast of the island and is famous for its rocks rising from the water (the Canarians call them “crocodile teeth”).

    “Crocodile teeth” at sunset

The best time for photography here is definitely sunset. Coastal cliffs look especially charming in the rays of the setting sun . True, some nuances should be taken into account.

First, the landscape is quite difficult to photograph, both technically and artistically.

The main problem is to find a suitable composition. It seems that there is everything around for a cool shot – huge waves, smooth sand and stones. However, it takes a trained eye and a sense of the frame to put it all together.

There are also purely technical difficulties. The light on Benijo changes very quickly , and sometimes it takes mere seconds to set the shooting parameters or change the filter.

    Benijo beach before sunset

And you also need to make sure that the unnoticed wave does not cover you and your equipment (believe me, you do not want this). All this requires some experience and skill and can create difficulties for novice photographers.

Secondly, be prepared for capricious and completely unpredictable weather . It often happens that in the south of Tenerife the sun is scorching with might and main, and there is not a cloud in the sky, and thick fog or rain is pouring on Benijo.

That’s how it was when I came to Benijo for the first time. I decided to wait for the sunset anyway, and imagine my surprise when, a few minutes before it, a gap formed in the clouds, and literally for five minutes the coast was lit up with a magical golden light.

No forecast is capable of predicting this, so a trip to Benijo is is always a certain risk.

And thirdly, check the tide schedule. Taking pictures (and sunbathing) on Benijo is best at low tide, when waves rolling on wet sand create unique reflections and patterns on the surface.

Teide can be called without exaggeration the main symbol of Tenerife . This is the highest volcano not only in the Canaries, but in all of Spain. And from its top, magnificent views open up for many kilometers around.

Many even make a night climb to meet the dawn at the top and see with their own eyes the famous shadow that Teide casts in Tenerife in the morning.

A classic view of Teide and the “Finger of God”

By the way, you can also climb to the top in a lazy way, by cable car. True, since it works from 9:00 to 17:00, you won’t see sunrise or shadow like that. But there are still many people who want to, so book tickets in advance .

However, the Teide peak is not the only thing that makes this part of Tenerife interesting. Around, at an altitude of more than 2,000 meters, is the Teide National Park. By the way, the most visited national park in Spain and Europe. And most importantly, it is easy to get here by car.

You can take pictures of Teide and its surroundings all year round (it even snows here in winter), but for me the best time is late spring and summer .

In May, unique tahinaste plants bloom in the park, which are very popular with photographers. In the summer, it’s great to photograph the Milky Way here.

View of the Teide from Mirador de Chipeque

However, even without the stars, you can find many interesting shots and landscapes. For example, the lone rock, aptly dubbed the “Finger of God”, is the subject of numerous postcards and a well-known symbol of Tenerife.

But I personally prefer the panoramic view of Teide from Mirador de Chipeque. If you’re lucky, you can even catch a rare sight here – a volcano rising above the clouds.

For me, Tenerife is definitely a sunset island. The setting sun here can be photographed endlessly and from a variety of points.

But those who like to get up early will also find somewhere to go. In addition to the already mentioned Teide, a great place to photograph the sunrise is La Tejita beach near the town of El Medano.

The town itself is rather inconspicuous, but thanks to the constant wind, it is popular with surfers and kiters. Other than that, there isn’t much to do here.

    Red Mountain at dawn

The same applies to the beach. There is sand on La Tejita, but due to the strong wind , sunbathing is not particularly pleasant.

But photographers will easily find where to frolic. There are cliffs in the western part of La Tejita, and Red Mountain (Montaña Roja) protruding into the sea will serve as a great backdrop for a sunrise shot.

The places listed above are located far from the tourist areas and you need a car to get to them. But what about those who just came to Tenerife on vacation for a week and did not rent a car?

Don’t worry, this doesn’t mean you have to leave your camera at home. Generally, most visitors stay in the south, between Los Cristianos and Costa Adeje. Well, also has something to shoot here.

Los Cristianos at night, Tenerife, Spain

For example, I took the photo in the header of the article on Las Americas beach (Playa de las Americas). By the way, the local waves attract surfers. So take a long lens as well. If you’re lucky, get a frame filled with drive.

In Los Cristianos, I highly recommend taking a short (20 minutes) hike to the top of the hill outside the city. offers a magnificent view of the surroundings from the top. I advise you to come in the evening to take pictures of Los Cristianos at dusk.

Surfer on the beach of Las Americas

Well, if you are staying further north, near Costa Adeje, then be sure to visit the coastal village of La Caleta. Here you will be able not only to shoot the sunset, but also to find an excellent restaurant for every taste.

Now that we have figured out where to photograph in Tenerife, let’s discuss a little how to do it. Here, too, has its own characteristics.

Let’s start with the basic rule – be careful when photographing near water and never stand with your back to the ocean . If you are washed off a cliff into the sea by an unexpected wave, getting out will be a daunting task.

    Sunset at La Caleta

Check the tide schedule and be careful when stepping on wet rocks – they are often very slippery. If you fall, you can be injured or damage equipment.

Protect your camera from splashes – even an ordinary plastic bag will do for this purpose. I disregarded this advice and was doused from head to toe by an imperceptibly creeping wave. Yes, yes, see point one and learn from my mistakes!

I myself dried out rather quickly, but after that the camera had to be sent in for repair. In general, salt water and equipment are not good friends, so it’s better not to risk it.

By the way, if you use Sony cameras, be sure to use a cover for the flash slot. Even a small amount of salt water that gets into it can lead to big trouble (tested on myself).

Away from the water, too, do not lose vigilance – although Tenerife is completely safe, thieves, alas, are not uncommon. Do not leave anything of value in cars , well, be careful yourself. They once tried to get into my bag right on the promenade in Costa Adeje.

And last but not least, don’t take unnecessary risks. Carelessness in Tenerife often ends badly. No photo is worth falling off a cliff or into the ocean.

If you decide to go to Tenerife, sooner or later you will face the question – where is it better to stay?

As a rule, this discussion comes down to two options. South (Costa Adeje, Los Cristianos) is popular with tourists . There are more well-maintained sandy beaches, hotels and restaurants, but at the same time more expensive.

In addition, geographically it is a desert, so the climate is warmer in the south, and there is almost no rain.

Rocks on the south coast of Tenerife

In the north (Puerto de la Cruz, Santa Cruz, La Orotava) it is noticeably cooler, more often overcast, and rainy days, especially in winter, are not uncommon. On the other hand, mostly locals (and expats) live here, which means prices are lower, and there are no such crowds of foreigners.

In this regard, the north gives more opportunities to get to know the “real” Tenerife. Moreover, it is in this part of the island that, in my opinion, the most beautiful landscapes. The same Benijo, for example, is much closer from here.

The choice is yours, but I myself have always preferred the south, in particular Costa Adeje. It’s not as noisy here as in Los Cristianos, but it’s warm and cozy. At the same time, Tenerife is not very large, and if you wish, you can easily get to any of its points and back on the same day.

Tenerife is a great photo destination. And of course, those places that I have listed in this article are just the beginning. Any trail, any road, and any turn can easily lead you to a stunning new view.

So the last piece of advice for today is just grab a wide-angle lens and go explore. Be curious, take your time and be patient, and the result will not be long in coming

But at the same time, do not forget to rest. After all, Tenerife is the perfect place to relax, get a tan and recharge your batteries.

Finally, another blazing sunset over Benijo

I hope you enjoyed this article. If so, be sure to share it with your friends and all the topic to whom it will be useful.

    Tanzania

    Vacation on the island Zanzibar
is incredibly beautiful landscapes, romantic sunsets, peaceful sunrises, warm ocean, bright sun, white sand, a sea of fruits, the freshest seafood caught from the ocean. There is no pronounced rainy season in Zanzibar. November – the last month of the Zanzibar spring – the weather is already good, and the prices are still very encouraging. During the day, the average air temperature is +30 °C, and at night you will find pleasant coolness (+24 °C). Due to the high humidity, there may be short rains, but they are very quickly replaced by the sun. Separately, I would like to say about the locals – they are very friendly, friendly, open people, ready to help in any situation. Zanzibar is an island of happiness where you want to return again and again!

    Thailand

In November, the rainy season comes to an end, the amount of precipitation is significantly reduced, the wind subsides, and the waves decrease. The mild climate, uncrowded beaches and warm sea beckon to travel here. The tourist season is just starting this month.

    Sri Lanka

The period from November to the end of April is the most favorable period for a holiday in Sri Lanka. The air temperature practically does not change all year round + 28 … + 30 ° C, with the exception of mountainous areas, where it gets cold to +10 ° C in winter. The average water temperature is +25 °C. In addition to a beach holiday, you can walk through the rainforest, visit one of the national natural parks, home to more than 200 species of birds, leopards, crocodiles and other exotic animals, and of course see how tea grows on the endless plantations of the island.

    and France
, wander the streets of the majestic Barcelona
    .

When it’s cold and raining outside, it’s time to go on a trip! We have chosen the TOP 7 countries where you can go to relax at sea in November 2020: it is dry, warm and sunny there.

In a dull November, it is especially pleasant to go to a sunny country, listen to the sound of the surf and soak up the warm sea water. Feel free to take a vacation – in November you can catch tasty destinations!

    Israel

Boldly and decisively go on a beach holiday in November 2020 to Israel. Better – to the Red Sea in Eilat and the resorts of the Dead Sea to swim and sunbathe. The weather there is ideal, in my opinion: during the day on average +23 … + 27 ° С, at night + 16 ° С, the water in the sea is +23 … + 26 ° С. No heat and no rain. And it’s also convenient that we have a visa-free regime with Israel!

In November, you can fly to Israel relatively inexpensively (compared to the high season) if you catch a last-minute tour.

    What to do?
While there are no pilgrims, go to holy places: Jerusalem, Nazareth, Bethlehem. Visit the Bahai Gardens in Haifa, see Tel Aviv and Jaffa. Relax on the Dead Sea and go snorkeling or diving in .

    UAE

Where is the most comfortable place to relax in November abroad? Very good in the UAE: during the day +30°С, at night +18…+20°С, the sea is warm +23…+25°С. The weather is ideal for beach holidays and excursions. Sometimes it rains, but it passes quickly.

Tours and hotels in the UAE are more expensive in November because there are many tourists.

    Interested in Vietnam?
This is our favorite country and we have a lot about it (because we lived and traveled there for many months!). A big plus of the republic is a simplified visa regime for Russians: up to two weeks a visa is not needed, but for a longer period of time.

    What to do?
In Mui Ne, the sea is rough, so it is ideal for surfing and kitesurfing. For snorkeling and diving, go to Phu Quoc where visibility is good. Visit the huge Vinperl Park in Nha Trang or Fukuoka – there will be enough entertainment and attractions for the whole day! Take an excursion to Ho Chi Minh City, Halong Bay, Dalat or Sapa.

    China

A full-fledged beach holiday in China in November is only possible, in other seaside resorts it is already cold. You can have a great rest in 2020 at the sea in Sanya: in November, the sea is warm + 25 ° С, the air temperature is + 28 ° С.

What to do? The water is so clear that you can safely explore the depths of the sea. Tours to local attractions are popular: Pirate Island, Butterfly Museum, Ma An Volcano and Dong Tian Temple Complex. Take a tour of the Great Wall of China and Shanghai – great shopping and towering skyscrapers. Dress warmly, megacities are located much to the north.

    Maldives

It is relatively inexpensive to have a rest on the sea in November in the Maldives – prices are lower compared to December. If you dreamed of visiting the paradise islands, it is worth flying in November.

By the way, we know how to spend your holidays! We independently visited 4 islands: Rasdhoo and Male. We share useful tips in this article.

November is a transitional month. Dry weather is setting in, but there may still be rain. The air temperature is +30°C, the water is clear and warm +28°C. The driest region – Haa Alifu Atoll
, rainy in the center of the archipelago: Faafu, Baa, Male, Ari.

    What to do?
There are few excursions in the Maldives: diving, snorkeling, sea fishing, trips to uninhabited islands and a picnic island, romantic dinners on the beach, water skiing, canoe rental – these are the main entertainments. Tourists in the majority lazily wallow on the beaches.

The uninhabited islands of Madivaru, 1 km from Rasdhoo. You can come here for a tour. From one island to another you can walk right across the ocean (500 meters). We did not get to the island, but I flew there on a drone.

    Goa

Goa – that’s the best place to relax in November 2020 at sea! At this time, the high season begins, it becomes dry and clear. It rains, but rarely. Humidity drops to a comfortable 70%. On average during the day +27…+32°С, at night +22°С, water in the sea +29°С.

    Tours
    from 60000 ₽ for two / 7 nights
    Tickets
from 33500 ₽ for one person / both ways

Shows the TOTAL price of the tour for ALL guests in the room including fuel surcharges

If you have no idea where to go on vacation in November, then you simply underestimate this month, because it is at this time that you can “catch” vouchers to the most popular countries for ridiculous money. The beaches and seas have already cooled down from the summer, but this is not a hindrance for those who seek quality rest!

    Comfortable November in Europe

    Spain

November is a wonderful time to visit Europe, with its palaces, cathedrals, galleries, museums and especially boutiques and restaurants. The warmest corner of autumn Europe is sunny Spainwashed by the waters of the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic. The most picturesque and touristic region here is Costa del Sol. It is also the most affordable in terms of cost and the most beachy. But the main thing is that at the resort you can see the famous bullfighting, flamenco and taste unique treats that are not found anywhere else.

In November, Barcelona, the city of Gaudí architecture and one of the most cultural corners of Spain, welcomes guests. The streets of Barcelona are full of cute bookstores, souvenir shops, small galleries, musicians run right along the boulevards and entertain passers-by, and visitors sit at tables and sip aromatic coffee with delicious local pastries.

Valencia and especially Madrid should not be overlooked. There are so many museums, architectural monuments, art expositions in the capital that you can’t get around even in a few years. And when to travel around all this, if not in November, when the temperature dropped to 18-20 degrees?

    Italy

In November, spa passions in Italy move to the islands. A win-win option is Capri, which is famous for its beautiful coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea and its miraculous natural wealth. Capri will make you fall in love with the charm of the Gulf of Naples and secluded coves, where the resort beaches are hidden. And no reminder of the stone jungle, because there are only two cities on the island, far from the image of megacities.

    Bulgaria

While the summer heat gave way, in Bulgaria, finally, the weather was suitable for travel, excursions and scientific research. November is the best time to explore ancient churches, learn Bulgarian customs and traditions, and get acquainted with the historical heritage of the country. Meanwhile, the resort Balchik did not seem to notice the arrival of autumn – tourists are still having fun in its open spaces, who are attracted here by the famous wineries. The recently harvested bountiful harvest promises rivers of sparkling drink at penny prices.

The end of the swimming season does not mean the end of the work of health centers and sanatoriums. Or you can become the first ski guests of Bansko and Pamporovo.

    Greece

Real relaxation begins in Greece in autumn, when thousands of foreigners finally leave the resorts and Greeks breathe a sigh of relief. Now you can rest. Wise tourists go to Greece just at the end of the season, when prices have dropped significantly and calmness has declared itself.

    Germany

Germany is not spoiled by the tropical climate, so autumn here is not so different from other seasons. While southern Europeans miss summer, the Germans are already happily preparing for Christmas and enthusiastically decorating the streets. Therefore, in November, city streets are neatly dressed in garlands, and sales and fairs begin in stores.

In addition, on November 11, the carnival season comes to Germany, when the Germans, known for their meticulousness and practicality, lose their heads and indulge in fun. The largest celebrations are held in Stuttgart, Cologne, Dusseldorf and Mainz. Is it worth reminding us about German beer and cuisine, which do not know the change of seasons?

Where to go to the sea in November

    UAE

    Egypt

In Egypt, the slowest influence of late autumn is Sharm el-Sheikh – a unique resort, at least because it is located in Eurasia, and not in Africa, like the mainland of Egypt. Of all the resorts of the Red Sea, Sharm combines the availability of recreation and respectability. Surrounded by sacred biblical mountains and desert, the resort offers quad bike rides, sea cruises, diving, superb shopping, desert discos, snorkeling, excursions and hotels with all the trappings for relaxation. There are more than 200 hotels in the city and new ones are constantly opening. In terms of organization, Sharm is clearly ahead of other Egyptian resorts, becoming on a par with European ones.

    China

Speaking of resorts in China, they usually mean Hainan – Chinese Hawaii with a tropical climate and appropriate nature. And nature has endowed the island with everything that a tourist corner needs. The summer heat stays here almost the whole year, for example, in November the temperature reaches 25 degrees and above, while the water is even warmer – 27 degrees. But Hainan does not live by beaches alone, here you can see the mouth of an extinct volcano, visit the ethnographic villages of local peoples, visit the settlements of artisans, swim in the thermal springs of Silun, visit natural parks and ride through the jungle.

    Cuba

It’s a long way to Liberty Island, but it’s worth it. None of those who have been here and known the beauty of the Caribbean Sea have yet returned disappointed, on the contrary, the desire to return will haunt you for a long time. As for the time of year, the tourist season is just beginning in November. Until April, dry, sunny and passionately hot weather will reign here.

Cuba has the best and most exciting diving – recognized by the diving community and ordinary tourists. Cuba has the most beautiful and sensual girls. In Cuba, there are many medieval temples, the remains of fortresses, colonial palaces and much more. The beaches are covered with white sand, and most hotels are carefully fenced off from the rest of the world, protecting guests from the bustle of the world.

    Dominican Republic

In the Dominican Republic, November is as warm and friendly as the rest of the months. These are the same snow-white beaches, palm alleys, huge hotels with all conceivable and unthinkable entertainments, folklore parties with Creole rhythms, Creole cuisine and a sea of rum, which is poured here with a generous hand. In the Dominican Republic, you will certainly be offered to visit a tobacco factory or sugar plantations, a rum factory, visit uninhabited islands and go around the island of Haiti on a luxury yacht.

    Thailand

In Thailand, November means only one thing – it’s time to move closer to Phuket and Koh Samui, where resort life is gaining momentum. The beaches beckon with sandy blankets and ethereal bliss, while the nightlife beckons with more down-to-earth pleasures. Bangkok and Pattaya are also in business and do not waste time – during the day, guests are entertained by palaces, pagodas, temples, zoos, aquariums, parks, markets, and in the evenings – clubs, discos, massage parlors.

    India

India is associated with tourists in Goa and rightly so. Here, tropical heat and low humidity prevent you from noticing the change of season. And therefore, the beach shallows do not empty, but, on the contrary, are overgrown with crowds of vacationers. Due to the dry weather, you can go on long excursions, visit the palaces of the rajas, governor’s villas, ancient temples.

    Sri Lanka

In November in Sri Lanka it is summer-like warm and local resorts are ready to throw all the riches of the island at the feet of tourists. Tropical jungles, fruit and tea gardens, spice gardens, mountains, wide beaches, underwater reefs, priceless architectural monuments and Buddhist shrines, exotic cuisine, traditional medicine, water sports, in general, there is a lot of room for relaxation.

    Malaysia

Malaysia is a beach paradise and it does not depend on the season. Wide sandy strips coexist with dense evergreen plantations of the tropics. Holidays in Malaysia are as sweet as the taste of exotic fruits, slightly spicy as the local spices, and heady as the cocktails poured endlessly in resort bars.

    Indonesia

Thousands of Indonesian islands, each of which is different from the next, are beautiful and hospitable. Bali enjoys special love of travelers, where many go for rebirth and enlightenment. More practical people come here for the dozens of underwater bays and coral gardens, as well as for a wild break and an atmosphere of complete freedom. The piquancy of the trip is added by the rains, which like to arrange surprises and water everyone and everything in spite of the weather forecasters.

We are approaching winter, and somewhere the warm waves of the sea or ocean wash the coastal sand.

There are many countries where the weather in November is conducive to a beach holiday, an even tan and swimming in the sea.

The holiday season at this time in Europe, namely in Greece, Turkey and Spain, is coming to an end, but in many exotic countries the rainy season is ending, and the weather favors a great holiday at sea.
