Where’s hot in November 2022 in Europe

By Mark Hodson, Sunday Times Travel Writer

Where’s hot in November in Europe? This can be a tricky time of year because in the southern Mediterranean you can expect lots of sunshine and temperatures of 20ºC, but many towns and resorts are shutting up for the winter season.

My best suggestion is the Canary Islands or Madeira where fine weather is all but guaranteed, and flying time from the UK is only four hours. You can also find good weather in Malta, Greece, Turkey and  Cyprus although not so many flights at this time of year. Travelling solo? See the best singles holidays in November.

Where’s hot in Europe in November

Country Destination Average highs Average hours of sun
Spain Canaries 23°C 7 hours
Portugal Madeira 22°C 6 hours
Portugal The Azores 20°C 5 hours
Greece Kos 20°C 6 hours
Cyprus Cyprus 22°C 7 hours
Morocco Marrakech 23°C 7 hours
Spain Seville 20°C 6 hours
Malta Valletta 21°C 7 hours

1.

Canary Islands

Average highs in November: 23ºC
Average daily sunshine: 7 hours
Flying time from UK: 4 hours

We strongly recommend the Canary Islands in November. If you want a beach holiday, Tenerife fits the bill, but the island also has mountains to hike, dolphin-watching, watersports, great golf and a wide choice of accommodation. It ranges from luxury hotels to family-friendly hotels and more intimate hotels too. See the latest special offers. Find the hottest Canary Islands in November.

2. Madeira

Average highs in November: 22ºC
Average daily sunshine: 6 hours
Flying time from UK: 4 hours

The Portuguese island of Madeira is the perfect choice for winter sun if you love the great outdoors, and it has similar weather to the Canaries. This lush mountainous sub-tropical outpost has outstanding hotels, walking trails and botanical gardens. You can also stay in beautifully-restored country estates such as Quintinha Sao Joao and Quinta da Bela Vista. British Airways flies direct from the UK.

3. The Azores

Average highs in November: 20ºC
Average daily sunshine: 5 hours
Flying time from UK: 4 hours

The Azores are a group of nine Portuguese volcanic islands in the Atlantic. Not as well known as the Canary Islands, they are stunningly beautiful. Great for hiking and sightseeing and one of the best places in Europe for whale and dolphin spotting. You can also opt for an island hopping itinerary or a walking or cycling holiday.

4. Kos

Average highs in November: 20ºC
Average daily sunshine: 6 hours
Flying time from UK: 3 hours 45 minutes

Close to the Turkish coastline, Kos is one of the most southerly of the Greek islands with a warm autumn climate. There’s a lot to see and do with archaeological sites, a booming wine industry and many luxury hotels to choose from, including the good-value five-star all-inclusive Ikos Aria. Find the hottest Greek islands in November.

5. Cyprus

Average highs in December: 22ºC
Average daily sunshine: 7 hours
Flying time from UK: 4 hours 30 minutes

November is a wonderful time of year to visit Cyprus, with low rainfall and temperatures in the low 20s. You can laze in the sun around the swimming pool, and this is also a great season for hiking, though there are plenty of other holiday experiences to be had. The island is also big enough to make a fly-drive a good option.

6. Marrakech

Average highs in November: 23ºC
Average daily sunshine: 7 hours
Flying time from UK: 3 hours

I know, I know, Morocco isn’t in Europe, but the flight from the UK is only three hours (it’s closer than the Canary Islands or Cyprus) and it’s tremendous value. Marrakech, with its dry desert climate, is too hot in summer but perfect in November when you can stay in a stylish riad, explore the souks and the warren of back streets with their charming French and Moroccan restaurants. It’s also a great spot for some Christmas shopping. You can combine Marrakech with ancient Fes or the hip beach resort of Essaouira, or stay in the Atlas Mountains. Check out these fascinating itineraries.

7. Seville

Average highs in November: 20ºC
Average daily sunshine: 6 hours
Flying time from UK: 2 hours 45 minutes

If it’s a city break in the sun that you’re looking for then in November it’s hard to beat southern Spain and in particular Seville. The weather is warm but not too hot for sightseeing, and although there’s an average of seven rainy days this month, Seville also has plenty of museums and an impressive cathedral to explore. It also has superb food, and it will be warm enough for an al fresco lunch, with atmospheric tapas bars to dive into when the cooler evenings come around. Find more holiday ideas in Spain.

8. Malta and Gozo

Average highs in November: 21ºC
Average daily sunshine: 7 hours
Flying time from UK: 3 hours 30 minutes

Malta and its neighbouring island of Gozo is a good choice for a November break as it has some of the warmest average temperatures in the Mediterranean with plenty of long, sunny days. It does also have an average of 13 days on which you will see some rain, although the total rainfall is quite light. You will need something warm to wear in the evenings. Malta is an easy island to explore and has a wealth of historical sites, while Gozo will appeal more to those who want a more rural getaway.

Europe: Where is hot in November?

Last month we wrote an article about the warmest destinations in October. This time is tougher, as finding places with mild temperatures in November is not easy, especially if we want to stay within Europe. Don’t expect to find places with temperatures above 30° C or even 25° C… For that you’ll have to travel a little further. However, countries in southern Europe such as Italy, France, Spain, Portugal and Greece can be a good compromise. Keep reading… We’ll bring you to 10 European destinations where you can still enjoy nice weather and pretty warm temperatures even in November!

Palermo is the capital of Sicily, Italy. This amazing city full of cultural value is situated close to where Europe ends and Africa begins. Best Places to Visit in November in Europe

The best places to visit in Europe in November are awash with autumn colours at the start of the month, and alive with arts seasons across the continent. You have the choice of rugging up with snow in northern Europe or enjoying relatively mild weather in the south, especially throughout Italy, Spain and Greece.

This
is a time to pack your hiking boots to get out into nature before the colder
temperatures hit. It’s also a time to get dressed to the nines and spend lavish
nights at the opera. More major benefits, particularly for European city breaks in November, include a lack of
crowds at top attractions and cheaper prices for flights and accommodation.
That means you can stretch the travel budget further for pure indulgence.

When
you’re choosing where to go in Europe in November,
consider outdoor adventures within fiery colours, uncrowded culture capitals
and off-the-beaten-path spots filled with traditional events. These
destinations offer a little bit of everything to make the most of fabulous European holidays in November.

PERTHSHIRE, SCOTLAND

To
bathe in the incredible changing colours of the season, head to the moors,
mystical glens, cascading waterfalls and lush forests of Perthshire. Enchanting
natural scenes surround the city of Perth, which was once the capital of
Scotland. Given its royal history, castle-hopping is a must here, with
Balhousie, Blair, Menzies, Elcho, Huntingtower and more.

The
Hermitage is a protected section of forest resting on the banks of the River
Braan. You’ll see towering Douglas fir trees, the mighty Black Linn Falls, red
squirrels and salmon leaping up-river. In town, the winter festival season
starts in early November with Bonfire Night lighting up the sky with fireworks.
The fun doesn’t stop there though, with the Perth Festival of Chocolate later
on in the month. Whether you stay cosy in pubs, restaurants and museums or hit
the hiking trails, Perthshire is one of the best places
to go in Europe in November.

CESKY KRUMLOV, CZECH REPUBLIC

The fairytale town of Cesky Krumlov is often overrun with tourists, but not in November. Combine it with a trip to Prague, just a two hour drive away, or settle in to soak up the magic of this chocolate-box South Bohemian town. In comparison with other countries, the Czech Republic is also one of the cheapest places to visit in November, or any time of year.

Cesky
Krumlov Castle is the second largest castle complex in the country. If you can,
book a hotel with castle views to make the most of its colourful splendour.
Spend your time strolling the cobbled streets of the historic centre, which
wind along the impossibly-pretty Vltava River. Discover Bohemian antiques in
the Regional Museum and take a drive through the golden countryside. There’s
plenty to do, but this really is the type of place to kick back with a beer and
simply soak up the captivating atmosphere.

DIJON, FRANCE

The capital of the Burgundy region hosts the Dijon International Gastronomy Fair this month, so it’s among the most delicious places to visit in France in November. The event runs for 15 days and features exquisite local products for you to sample. This is, after all, the home of Dijon mustard, and you can also expect speciality vinegar, nougat, olives, charcuterie, chocolate and crepes.

Heaven
on earth for culture vultures, Dijon keeps you on the go with museum and
landmark-hopping. Admire fine works of art at one of the country’s oldest museums,
Musée des Beaux-Arts de Dijon, and see the lifelike statues of prophets on the
medieval Well of Moses. You simply can’t miss the majestic Palace of the Dukes
of Burgundy, which now houses the City Hall. Within easy day-trip distance,
visit the Cote de Nuits vineyards to indulge in Pinot Noir.

BADEN-BADEN, GERMANY

This trendy, 19th-century spa town is within the region of the fairytale Black Forest. Germany, as a whole, is one of the best European countries to visit in November, for spectacular autumn foliage within dense forests and rolling landscapes. Rug up for incredible hikes, then take to the thermal baths in Baden-Baden for rejuvenation. Bubbling up from twelve underground springs, the water’s minerals are said to provide therapeutic healing benefits.

Admire
collections of imperial Easter eggs and sparkling jewellery at the Faberge
Museum, devoted to the work of Carl Faberge. It’s located within Museum Mile,
so hop to others including Brahms’ House, the Roman Bath Ruins and the State
Art Gallery. Try your luck at the casino at the spa resort, Kurhaus, and
immerse in opera at the majestic Festspielhaus concert house.

BERN, SWITZERLAND

For
local traditions combined with culinary delights, Bern is perfect for November
city breaks in Europe. Local farmers team up to bring tons of onions and
garlic to the capital in the form of decorative braids and garlands, for
Zibelemarit (the Onion Market). You can just imagine the divine smells wafting
from kitchens whipping up tarts, pizzas, soups and stews with the tasty
produce.

This
is a small, compact capital blessed with atmospheric cobbled streets and lovely
river views. While you’re tucking into onion-flavoured goodness, explore the
pedestrian-only Old Town. You’ll find fountains designed by a 16-century
artist, with quirky sculptures like a child-eating ogre. Visit the Gothic
cathedral with its soaring spire and pop into Einstein House where the man
himself lived, in 1903. For craft beers and gorgeous views of the Old Town and
Barenpark, spend a scrumptious afternoon at Altes Tramdepot.

TALLINN, ESTONIA

Feel like an early taste of the Christmas spirit? Tallinn is among the great places to visit in Europe in November, with one of the continent’s loveliest Christmas markets opening mid-month. Santa Claus will be there, along with live reindeer, pony rides and an action-packed schedule of cultural shows. Other regular events in November include the Tallinn Comedy Festival and Tallinn Restaurant Week.

This
is a town that looks exactly like a fantasy movie set and, in the warmer
months, it’s flooded with cruise ship passengers. If you arrive in advance of
the markets, you’ll likely get a lot of space to yourself, which is a special
treat here indeed. Take long, meandering strolls through the Old Town with your
camera and find panoramic views from the Kohtuotsa viewing platform. When it’s
time to warm up, hop around incredibly quaint restaurants and treat yourself to
delicious Estonian cuisine and beer, with views of medieval magic.

MONTE CARLO, MONACO

Some
of the best travel places in November combine
festivals with mild temperatures. Fabulous Monte Carlo offers both, with the
Gastronomy Fair bringing gourmet delights from more than 100 producers across Europe.
Take your foodie holiday a step further by splurging on the haute-cuisine
Monaco is famous for, at restaurants under the guidance of some of the world’s
most celebrated chefs.

Visit
the landmark Oceanographic Museum, perched high on the cliffs overlooking the
Mediterranean. Take selfies in front of Saint Nicholas Cathedral and Prince’s
Palace of Monaco. Walk along the famous Port de la Condamine and discover the
winding streets of Le Rocher, Monaco’s historic district. Naturally, you can’t
leave without feeling the glamour of Casino de Monte-Carlo. It’s famous for its
James Bond association, after appearing in GoldenEye.
And,
it’s worth it to take a tour,
even if you don’t want to take your chances on blackjack.

LA GOMERA, SPAIN

Are you looking for warm places in Europe in November? Look no further than Spain’s Canary Islands. La Gomera is the archipelago’s second smallest island and a place of wild beauty that’s world’s away from the resort vibe of the other islands. This is a World Biosphere Reserve, with marine and terrestrial ecosystems blending ancient rainforests, pristine streams and lush valleys.

Hiking
is at the top of the agenda, with trails encompassing otherworldly volcanic
landscapes, breathtaking ocean views and black sand beaches. Due to rich
volcanic soil and sunny weather, La Gomera is prime winemaking land. There’s
plenty of atmospheric restaurants to sip local vinos while indulging in
traditional Canarian cuisine. Keep an ear out for Silbo Gomero, the pre-Hispanic
whistling language that locals still communicate with today.

BETWS-Y-COED, WALES

For
enchanting landscapes, Snowdonia is one of the best
places to visit in Europe in autumn, especially towards the beginning of
November. The charming mountain village of Betws-y-Coed is the perfect base, in
the midst of the Conwy Valley. From here, it’s easy to reach spectacular
walking, climbing and mountain bike trails. Take a stroll through ancient
woodland to discover the pretty cascades of Swallow Falls.

If
you love some thrills with your nature escapes, head to Zip World Fforest to
jump on the alpine coaster and zip lines. Venture deep inside a mountain at Go
Below, by abseiling and zip lining through caverns and across mystical lakes.
The village itself is full of quaint accommodation options, cosy cafes and
unique craft shops. Amble around after a day of outdoor adventure and fuel up
for the next at atmospheric restaurants.

CORNWALL, ENGLAND

In
terms of places to visit in the UK in November,
the ancient Celtic kingdom of Cornwall is a kaleidoscope of orange and red
autumn foliage. The county’s one city welcomes the festive season with Truro
City of Lights this month, a dazzling parade of music, lanterns and fun. Base
yourself here and hire a car for easy adventures into glorious landscapes and
picture-perfect towns.

At
the centre of the Cornish city is Truro Cathedral, with three soaring spires
that dominate the skyline. Explore high street shops and restaurants when
you’re not out and about in Cornwall. Speaking of which, embark on day trips to
the fishing village of Port Isaac, sprawling Bodmin Moor and elegant Padstow.
Don’t miss out on immersing yourself in the myths and legends of King Arthur at
Tintagel.

Europe in November Weather

Temperatures vary considerably, when it comes to November weather in Europe. Beautiful auburn landscapes are best seen at the beginning of the month and, especially in the south, the crisp air is a delight for hiking and other adventure activities. If you’re looking for snow, take your skis north to Austria or Switzerland.

Northern Europe Weather in November

Winter
has definitely arrived by November in northern Europe, which is great news for
snow, so pack your cosy woollies. Expect shorter days when you’re out and
about, with darkness setting in from about 5pm.

Western Europe Weather in November

With
average high temperatures of around 10°C, pack layers, a warm coat and a waterproof jacket for western
Europe holidays.

Eastern Europe Weather in November

Eastern Europe in November sees daytime temperatures of around 7°C, with often frosty nights. Lovely drifting snow is possible towards the end of the month, in fairytale destinations like Prague.

Mediterranean Europe Weather in
November

You
can expect several sunny days and mild temperatures of around 18°C in the Mediterranean.
Pack a variety of clothing for days ranging from warm to refreshingly cool, and
chillier nights.

European holidays in November offer an incredible array of dazzling landscapes, whether you’re looking for snow, autumn leaves or sunny coastlines. Best of all, this is low season, so you won’t have to fight the crowds to see some of the world’s most spectacular sights.

10 places where the winter chill has yet to arrive and the sun promises to shine

Getty Images

With November’s cooling temperatures come time-honoured markers: misted breath mixing with bonfire smoke, feet scrunching through leaves in the park. But while Britain is reaching for its scarves, other places are basking, so why not travel into the light? It’s the ideal time to explore a favourite destination off-peak, try out a sunshine lifestyle in California or Australia or go tropical, from the Indian Ocean to the Arabian Sea.

  • Getty Images

    1. Crete, Greece

    Average November temperature: 20℃

One of the southernmost Greek islands, Crete enjoys a warm climate well into winter. And with peak-season crowds all firmly stuck in term-time, this is an excellent chance to explore an underrated charmer in all-too-rare repose. Admittedly, Crete’s not a secret, but you needn’t travel far from the well-worn track to find unspoiled villages with locals happy to invite you to the party (an evening in a taverna always feels like one). By day, hike the monumental Samaria Gorge, where soaring cliffs shade a rugged, chamomile-scented trail. Or find Elafonisi, the pristine pink beach.

Where to stay: Domes Zeen Chania, where concrete villas dot the hillside towards the sea, and there’s a black-tiled pool surrounded by thatched parasols for snoozing under. Or try Minos Beach Art Hotel, where sleek interiors and inspiring artworks are strung out along a private peninsula in a hidden corner of magical Mirabello Bay. For more, see our pick of the best hotels in Crete.

  • Getty Images

    2. Seville, Spain

    Average November temperature: 20℃

An easy city destination rich in sunshine, shady courtyards and napkin-strewn tapas bars, Seville has the ability to transport visitors to an instant summer. For old-world kicks, explore the Alcázar, the opulent Mudéjar palace, or flag down a horse-drawn carriage outside the Gothic cathedral. But carve out time, too, for the city’s flipside: to be uncovered at Un Gato en Bicicleta, an unapologetically cool bookshop/café/ceramics studio; or at Delimbo, a gallery that’s home to graffiti and graphic design. Come nightfall, the pavements are busy with people picking at small plates and sipping sherry outdoors. November? Could’ve fooled us.

Where to stay: Hotel Alfonso XIII, the benchmark for grand stays in Seville since 1929 – a neo-Moorish mansion newly refurbished with modern design and an Art Deco American Bar. For something more contemporary, Plácido y Grata has a pared-back, minimalist aesthetic plus a trendy café, a relaxed drinks bar and – across the street – its restaurant serves fresh, modern Spanish cuisine. See our guide to the best hotels in Seville for more.

  • Getty Images

    3. Cyprus

    Average November temperature: 22℃

Cyprus is so far south into the Mediterranean it feels more Middle Eastern than its EU membership might suggest – and the same goes for its climate. And so, with the sun still warming sand and sea at this time of year, it’s tempting to flop onto a Paphos beach and be done with it. But those who let their gaze wander inland, to the Troodos Mountains, will find grand, painted churches; vineyards sown into flinty hillsides; and boutique suites sprawling through honey-hued stone houses – as at Apokryfo, an elegant, Cyprus-meets-Cotswolds set-up in sleepy Lofou village.

Where to stay: Anassa made our list of the best hotels in Europe for 2022. While it’s an hour from Paphos airport in Latchi, it’s well worth the drive, especially for families – the kids’ club is slicker than most London nurseries and the adult-only spaces are effortlessly chic. For couples, we like Amavi, a glossy adult’s only hotel where lounges enjoy a direct view of the sea and the beach is just a couple steps away. See our guide to the best Cyprus hotels for more.

  • Getty Images

    4. Seychelles

    Average November temperature: 30℃

When we say this is ‘the most beautiful archipelago in the Indian Ocean’, we don’t say it lightly – the Seychelles is desert-island gorgeous. But these islands are not flat, or two-tone – they’re perfection, but they’re wild. Alongside the brilliant white beaches and neon-blue waters, great black-granite outcrops rise against pounding surf, fringed by Coco de Mer palms. The private islands are immaculate Edens sought by oligarchs and royals. North Island: hand-picked for the honeymoon of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge; Six Senses Zil Pasyon, spread over Félicité, a jungly stunner with 30 immense villas, all hardwood floors, vaulted ceilings and deep, ocean-facing tubs. It’s not cheap to get here. But paradise always did come at a cost.

Where to stay: In addition to North Island  and Six Senses Zil Pasyon, we also love Four Seasons Resort at Desroches Island, where 40 guest villas are set in big, lawned gardens with private pools, from which secret walkways lead to wide beaches where turtles nest. See the best hotels in the Seychelles for more recommendations.

    5. Adelaide and South Australia

    Average November temperature: 23℃

Australia rarely seems a particularly harried sort of place, but its SA region is downright horizontal. For this is the land of wide-open cellar doors (Barossa and Clare Valleys, Coonawarra, McLaren Vale and Adelaide Hills), Limestone Coast beaches (Glen Point is dazzling) and houseboat cruises meandering along the Murray River. If you need an urban fix, Adelaide has Restaurant Orana, with its unhurried 20-course tasting menu, and the most hopping cocktail joint in town, Pink Moon Saloon, for tequilas with smoked lemonade.

    Where to stay:

Barossa Valley has accommodation on-site including cute cottages and cabins.

  • Getty Images

    6. Palm Springs, USA

    Average November temperature: 26℃

Without the Coachella crowds, Palm Springs is a laid-back desert stopover and the antithesis of a gloomy British November with its scorching sunshine and abundance of mid-century modernist cool. Take some time, too, to explore bordering dusty desert towns that are being newly transformed by outpriced LA hipsters: Pioneertown saloon Pappy & Harriet’s has hosted impromptu gigs by Paul McCartney and Arctic Monkeys; in Flamingo Heights, those queueing at La Copine wait patiently for spicy melon gazpacho and loaded lavash. Tie on hiking boots and scramble over nearby Joshua Tree’s jumbly boulders – or, better yet, perfect your stroke at the peerlessly on-trend Ace Hotel & Swim Club.

Where to stay: Pioneertown Motel , a pared-back, Wild West single-storey inn that’s dotted with cowhide rugs and woven blankets.

  • Getty Images

    7. Baja California, Mexico

    Average November temperature: 27℃

Bordering California has seldom done this northern Mexican state many favours, high-schoolers piling into Tijuana for tequila binges being the least of its problems (Mexico’s legal drinking age is 18 to the USA’s 21). But more refined imbibers are now discovering something beyond the bar strip: Valle de Guadeloupe, aka Mexico’s Napa Valley, has lately sharpened its focus on organic and biodynamic bottles. Finca La Carrodilla serves its crisp Chenin Blanc in a pretty rooftop garden; Finca Altozano, one of the valley’s favourite open-air, farm-to-table restaurants, now features funky flourishes such as an Airstream serving tortas. Its sister B&B, Finca La Divina, is a perfect hybrid, with Mexican-colonial architecture and California-cool interior design. Need a beach break? Cabo San Lucas is just a hop, skip and a two-hour flight away.

Where to stay: One&Only Palmilla, where stone floors, intricate fabrics and heavy doors with wrought-iron studs reference Mexico in the smartest possible way. Another option is Paradero Todos Santos, set in front of a palm-tree oasis about 20 minutes from the beach and made up of a series of brutalist-inspired golden-toned structures designed to blend into the sandy natural surrounds. See our pick of the best hotels in Mexico for more.

    8. Goa, India

    Average November temperature: 29℃

Think Goa and you might conjure an unholy trinity of tie-dye, trance and tokers’ fug. But southern India’s beachy bohemia has always had a split personality, known for all-night raves in the north and chilled sunset vibes in the south. Today, there are more Goas still. Inland, you’ll find the relics of Portuguese rule in cool, white-painted churches and colonial villas turned into boutique retreats, tucked between palms. There are rickety beach bungalows and sizzling street stalls, but also five-star resorts and Champagne by the pool. What the Goas all have in common: an escape from everyday shackles, a go-slow refuge of endless sands and churning surf. For proper privacy, Elsewhere, in upmarket Mandrem, is the family compound of Mumbai-based fashion photographer Denzil Sequeira, offering four brightly painted beach houses hidden among dunes.

Where to stay: Leela, a glamorous escape surrounded by lush gardens and blue lagoons.

  • Getty Images

    9. Cambodia

    Average November temperature: 30℃

Cambodia hasn’t traditionally offered a lazy sunny holiday: its regular circuit – marathon temple-hopping in Siem Reap, Phnom Penh’s brutal history – isn’t quite what you’d call relaxing. But the recent foray of top-tier brands into its untapped coastal beauty is forging something harder to find in its neighbour, Thailand: proper, unplugged peace.

Where to stay: Six Senses Krabey Island is a jungly outcrop scattered with pool villas; Alila’s Koh Russey retreat angles the gaze of Khmer-style pavilions over still emerald waters toward uncharted hills. Over on the mainland, coastal Kep’s barefoot resort, Knai Bang Chatt, serves blue swimmer crabs to tables arranged on a jetty over the sea. And the sunsets are glorious: an unpolluted horizon silhouetted with fishing boats, blushing gold-pink.

    10. Botswana

    Average November temperature: 35℃

Feeling too hot hot hot? Sure, 35℃ is scorching. But Botswana is known for its dry heat: manageable, not muggy. Better yet, the rates for what is increasingly gaining a rep as Africa’s finest safari destination are rather favourable this time of year. Plus, lower visitor numbers help you explore the Okavango Delta in relative isolation, while the game-viewing is exceptional as animals begin birthing their young. Explore the wetland wilderness by dugout canoe and see swimming lions pursue scrambling buffalo; hippos and elephants cooling off in crystal-clear shallows. Of course, luxury camps are not hard to come by. Sandibe Okavango Safari Lodge by &Beyond is cool and contemporary: guests stay in pangolin-shaped pods with remote-controlled mosquito nets, and private plunge pools overlook papyrus fringing the lagoons.

Best European Destinations in November

November might not be an obvious month to take a city break in Europe, but don’t totally dismiss the idea.

Also, the crazy temperatures of the peak summer months make walking around a lot easier!

10 Awesome European Cities to Visit in November

I’ve chosen 10 of the best cities in Europe to visit in November to take your pick from. Obviously, I’m biased towards my adopted home of Athens, but don’t let that put you off considering these other destination choices!

Here’s some of the best places to visit in November in Europe.

1. Budapest, Hungary.

You can walk the old city with a traditional Hungarian Chimney Cake, and after that, a hearty bowl of goulash. Traditional Hungarian cuisine is amazing!

Better still, Budapest experiences a seasonal low in tourism around November. So visits to the parliament house, castle, and old city will be far less crowded.

Budapest also offers world class cafes, and coffee houses. There are few things better than sitting in the crisp autumn air, enjoying a hot coffee, and the old world feel.

Budapest has everything you need for a perfect visit to Europe in November.

November is the time where Rome begins to cool off quite rapidly. Temperatures in Rome during the month of November are usually around the 15c – 19c mark making it one of the best places to go in Europe in November for warm weather.

While you will get plenty of sunshine, make sure to pack an umbrella just in case! November does see a slight increase in rain for Rome.

But don’t let the cooler weather deter you from seeing this ancient city in Italy. Rome will still offer you a once in a lifetime experience, and is one of the best destinations in Europe to see in autumn.

Gdansk is a small, and cozy port city located in the north of Poland, on the Baltic sea. This city offers vibrant architecture, wonderful holiday markets, and plenty of Polish delicacies to leave you feeling stuffed to the gills!

You can enjoy beautiful sea side restaurants for a romantic evening, and a bustling nightlife in near by Sopot. While Gdansk may not be the first city that comes to mind for a Polish vacation, it certainly is a great one.

Gdansk is a tri-city area as well. So you will have plenty of things to explore between Gdansk, Sopot, and Gdynia. All three are just a quick train ride from each other!

Not to mention, giving traditional Polish vodka a try while you are there. It will surely be the medicine you need to keep the chill away in this Baltic coastal city in November.

This capital city of Bulgaria traces its roots back over 2,000 years, with influences from Greek, Roman, Ottoman, and even Soviet cultures.

While weather in Sofia can be quite unpredictable in November, the capital of Bulgaria and its buildings are wonderful to witness no matter what.

Whether with a thin layer of snow, or crisp autumn leaves, sights such as the Medieval Boyana Church, the bustling Vitosha Boulevard. and the National Palace of culture are stunning.

The average temperature in November for Sofia hovers around 10 c during the day. So a nice jacket, a scarf, and a cup of coffee will be all you need to enjoy the beautiful Bulgarian city of Sofia.

In terms of avoiding crowds, Sofia is one of the best destinations in Europe in November to travel to.

7. Copenhagen, Denmark

While Scandinavia is known to be extremely cold, a trip to Copenhagen in November is more than worth it. Copenhagen does autumn celebrations as well, or better, than almost any place in the world.

The 175 year old Tivoli Gardens is a must see during a Europe visit in November. Opening in Mid-November, Tivoli is transformed into a Christmas wonderland unlike any you have ever seen.

With thousands and thousands of lights, rides, attractions, and a warm spiced wine, Tivoli makes a trip to Copenhagen worth it all by itself.

While Denmark is typically lacking in sunlight during the autumn-winter season, Copenhagen combats this marvelously with it’s array of lights, markets, sights and smells to make sure the holiday season is alive and vibrant in Copenhagen.

If you’re looking where to go in November in Europe, Copenhagen could be a good contrarian choice.

8. Lisbon, Portugal

Most people associate southern Europe with summer holidays, but the cool city of Lisbon is a pleasure to visit outside the traditional tourist season.

The Baixa district of Lisbon, Portugal, is one of the most wonderful places to visit in Europe, and Baixa in November is even more extravagant.

Alight with thousands of twinkling lights, and a giant Santa Clause, this vacation getaway becomes a true holiday wonderland seemingly over night.

Lisbon also offers a range of festivals to see and experience in the month of November, including the amazingly diverse Super Bock em Stock festival that offers any type of music you could ever want. Or the Lisbon & Sintra Film Festival that showcases films that will appeal to even the most experienced of film goers.

Lisbon is also famous for its delicious autumn street foods, including roasted chestnuts served in a newspaper. This city is also one of the few places in Europe to get some half-decent sun in November, so make the most of it!

You will never run out of treats to try as you explore this amazing city in Portugal.

9. Paris, France

Paris is considered by many to be one of the hubs of culture for Europe. If fine art, 5-star dining, and dazzling architecture are what you are seeking, Paris has it all in spades.

While on average, the city of Paris sees rainfall for about half of the month of November, don’t let that stop you from going. A pair of rain boots, a jacket and an umbrella are all you need to comfortably experience this city in autumn.

A nice glass of Vin Chaud, (mulled wine) will do wonders to keep you warm and in good spirits.

You will want to visit the classic Butte Bergeyre vineyard, and enjoy the late autumn colors. As well as the Salon Du Chocolat in the beginning of November to satisfy your sweet tooth.

In November you will also see decreased lines at the more popular places such as the Louvre Museum, and the Palace of Versailles. So make sure to add Paris to your autumn European trip, as it’s one of the best places in Europe to visit in November.

10. Athens, Greece

Last but not least, my home town of Athens! Athens is, arguably, one of the best places in the world to visit during the month of November. Well, I’m happy to argue it anyway.

The temperatures are still pleasant enough in early November, as the cold weather doesn’t really kick in until December. This makes it probably one of the warmer cities in Europe in November.

As it’s off season, the cruise ships have stopped arriving which means there are far fewer crowds. This means places in the city center such as the Acropolis are a pleasure to visit in November!

Athens is one of the most visited cities in Europe for tourists, so going in November could be just the right recipe for a less ‘crowded’ experience of the city.

You will also find the price of hotels in Athens to be a bit more reasonable in November, rather than in the more busy tourism months. Stay in the historic centre, and you’ll find all the main attractions within walking distance.

I’ve got extensive guide to Athens you can access by starting here: Ultimate Guide to Athens.

Where Is Hot In November In Europe?

When the cold weather sets in, we believe the best way to lift your spirits is to start planning an escape to some winter sun!

With this in mind, we showcase some beautiful destinations for your winter sun holidays below. ..you’ll just need to decide whether to take one of our beach dresses, summer maxi dresses or cotton summer dresses with you!

Charlotte from LuluEscapes recommends…

The Canary Islands are an ideal, year-round destination as they are predominantly sunny and temperatures stay rather warm, between 18ºC and 28ºC.

Lanzarote is the fourth largest island and it originated from a volcanic eruption from the sea, leaving behind a beautiful black lava landscape. There are so many things to do on the island from visiting stunning beaches, going on hikes, riding a camel, to visiting underground lava caves and local wineries.

You’ll also love all the wonderful local restaurants serving fresh fish and seafood dishes. I personally recommend El Risco and Bogavante. I also suggest renting a car to explore the island.

Born and raised between London, Ibiza and Madrid and now currently living in beautiful Paris, Charlotte has just recently returned from a five-month solo trip around Australia and Asia. Amber from 48 Hours in Europe recommends…

With its elegant narrow streets, colourful traditional Maltese balconies, baroque architecture, rich history, stunning beaches and tales of knights, Malta will quickly whisk you away to another world.

And the best part about Malta? This tiny Mediterranean island gets 300 days of sun per year – making it the perfect spot in Europe to visit once summer has faded elsewhere. That’s why Malta is my pick for the perfect November getaway.

So, what should you do while you’re there? Head to as many of Malta’s pristine beaches as you can. The best ones are on Malta’s smaller islands of Gozo and Comino.

Check out Malta’s slice of paradise: The Blue Lagoon. I’ve been to the Caribbean and I can confirm you don’t need to head that far to enjoy shallow turquoise waters, golden rocks and dramatic coastline…just head to Malta.

Explore the capital city Valletta’s effortless glamour by allowing yourself to get lost in its labyrinth of streets. Go back in time and discover the backdrop of Game of Thrones in Malta’s well-preserved former capital Mdina, which dates back as far as 4000 years.

Visit the wonderfully colourful traditional fishing town of Marsaxlokk in Malta’s southeast.

Background

Born and bred in Australia, Amber has lived in not-so-sunny London for the last four years. She loves the novelty of being able to jump on a plane (or even better, a train) and be in an entirely new country within an hour. She has been to 43 countries and is a lover of travel, food, photography, cultures, story-telling and of course, new adventures.

Weronika and Jonas from Lemony Travels recommend…

We definitely think the highest temperatures in Europe in November will be in the Canary Islands…but Sardinia, Corsica, Sicily and Malta also have beautiful weather and temperatures of above 20 degrees C.

The place we would recommend though must be Sardinia. We have been there many times and we are totally in love with this island. Sardinia has many things to offer all year round. You can have great walks on one of the many stunning white sandy beaches, hike in the mountains or cycle along their beautiful coastline. You can also visit cute villages or vineyards for wine tasting… and don’t get us started on the food!! Sardinia gets plenty of sunshine all year round and although it is sometimes hit and miss, there are times you can have 25+ degrees C with sunshine and blue skies for a whole week and be pretty much alone on the beaches midweek!

Alternatively we would suggest the Amalfi Coast. The reason for that is that this stunning but super famous place is constantly overcrowded from May – mid October and it’s actually quite unpleasant to visit during these months. So at this time of the year you could have the place almost “to yourself”. And when the crowds along the Amalfi Coast are gone, you will truly see the beauty of the place and can indulge and explore this coastline the way it’s supposed to be done. The weather can be hit and miss week-by-week, but we recommend you check the weather forecast in advance, there is usually plenty of sunshine…

Where to go in November in Europe – unusual vacation ideas

One of the greatest mysteries in life is why travelers persistently flock to Europe in the summer, guaranteeing themselves a vacation in crowded resorts among crowds of people sweating from the heat. But Europe has a secret cooling system plus an effective crowd control strategy: it’s called the off-season. If you are not a fan of the beach at any time of the year, here are some non-trivial ideas for where to go to Europe in November.

Traveling in November – complete with cheaper flights and hotels – has many benefits. And while the cold hand of winter is still on the way, head to the south of Europe to prolong your velvet season. But do not forget to stock up on rain gear, it will come in handy when you go out onto the rainy streets from half-empty museums.

Portugal in November – summer continues

First recommendation – Lisbon. November temperatures average 25 degrees and are perfect for lovers of history and culture.

First time visitors to Lisbon should visit the hilltop terraces known as miradouros. You will see the whole ancient and beautiful city at a glance. But first of all, of course, the symbols of Lisbon, such as the Belem Tower and the Monastery of Geronimos. And be sure to try those famous naughty quiches.

And if you’re still hungry, head to downtown Lisbon for a seafood tasting in the Bairro Alto area. And then look for an old pharmacy, now turned into a wine bar with a full range of all kinds of Portuguese wines. Tastings are held there, after which you will never say that port is a poor quality wine.

[info-box type=”fact”]For Lisbon excursions, visit tripster.ru Here you will find unique excursions from locals who love their city and will pass this love on to you.[/info-box]

Most Museums in Lisbon provide free admission on Sundays. Save the trip to museums like the Berard Museum and the MUDE Design and Fashion Museum for rainy days. But when the sun is shining, go to the big city mall Principe Real, located in the former palace 19th century.

[info-box type=”info”]Don’t want to spend time buying museum tickets? Use the tiqets.com service – it allows you to buy a ticket directly from your mobile, even if you are already standing in front of the museum – very convenient.[/info-box]

Spain in November – jazz and flamenco Barcelona, lure naive fans of the Iberian Peninsula.

[info-box type=”bold”]But the best place to go in November in Spain is warm Seville – the main pearl in Spain, quietly waiting for true connoisseurs.[/info-box] In November, the Andalusian caster predicts an average of 15 degrees warm, making the weather “mild and mostly sunny”.

Top places to visit in Seville

The Macarena area is a creative space occupied by artists and artisans – very interesting and not known to outsiders. You can tour the studios, buy their merchandise, and sometimes get a music or flamenco lesson.

The Soho-Benita urban area is also great for exploring. There are Roman remains, a market and a walkway with a bird’s eye view of the city. There are also great boutiques with quirky clothes and accessories.

For lunch, fried fish and beer at La Primera de la Puente. And then a mandatory visit to the new museum of ceramic tiles – azulejos – famous throughout the world. It is located in a former tile factory dating back to Moorish times.

Madrid Jazz Festival

Jazz lovers will definitely enjoy visiting Madrid in November when the annual Madrid Jazz Festival takes place there. The Spanish capital has something for everyone, whether they are family vacationers, solo travelers, architecture and photography lovers, history and culture buffs. Plan to visit the Museo Nacional del Prado, Parque del Retiro, Royal Palace of Madrid, Plaza Mayor.

Enjoy a cable car ride and guided tour with breathtaking views of Madrid.

Museum Cities and Pastoral Islands

Of course, most tourists in November are attracted by such popular and crowded cities in summer as Athens, Rome, Venice and Istanbul. Even in the off-season, they are not empty, although there are fewer queues to museums. Therefore, lovers of museums and noisy cities are advised to get a Museum Card and go on a marathon through the largest repositories of history and antiquity.

Southern islands such as Malta, Sicily and Cyprus combine historical and archaeological sites with bucolic countryside. Rent a car to see as many small pastoral villages as possible. In addition, there are magnificent roads and you will get real pleasure.

[info-box type=”fact”]Great car rental service – Myrentacar.com They provide low prices and the best conditions as they work only with local car rental companies. You can choose a specific car, up to the color and brand of the radio.[/info-box]

In Cyprus in November the sea is still conducive to swimming, and in the mountains you can catch the first snow. So, in one day you can take two amazing selfies – in a swimsuit on the beach and skiing on a snowy track.

Where to go in Italy in November

Recommendation No. 5 – Florence, the dreamy Italian capital of Tuscany. November temperatures average 10 degrees, but you’ll have the advantage of being in a gorgeous city without the sweltering heat and ubiquitous crowds.

Start with a walk up to Piazzale Michelangelo for a beautiful panoramic view of Florence, with the Ponte Vecchio, Palazzo Vecchio and Duomo stretching over the horizon. It’s especially stunning at sunset.

Spend time in the Oltrarno area. Most of the city’s main monuments are on the north side of the Arno River, but this area is one of the most authentic, with large trattorias, the gardens of Palazzo Pitti and Boboli, Santo Spirito.

November is truffle month in Tuscany, where San Miniato and San Giovanni d’Asso hold popular festivals. You will have the chance to try an omelet with real fresh truffle mushrooms – at this time they appear on the menu of many restaurants, even in the countryside. In addition, we must not forget that in November they celebrate the harvest of olives and the preparation of the first oil. You have to try fettunte, toasted slices of bread soaked in new olive oil.

[info-box type=”fact”]As you can see, Europe in November can be very interesting and exciting – choose unexpected destinations and original excursions and you are guaranteed an unforgettable experience.[/info-box]

If you have no idea where to go on vacation in November, then you simply underestimate this month, because it is at this time that you can “catch” trips to the most popular countries for ridiculous money. The beaches and seas have already cooled down from the summer, but this is not a hindrance for those who seek quality rest!

Comfortable November in Europe

Spain
November is a wonderful time to visit Europe, with its palaces, cathedrals, galleries, museums and especially boutiques and restaurants. The warmest corner of autumn Europe is sunny Spain, washed by the waters of the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic. The most picturesque and touristic region here is the Costa del Sol. It is also the most affordable in terms of cost and the most beachy. But the main thing is that at the resort you can see the famous bullfighting, flamenco and taste unique treats that are not found anywhere else.

In November, Barcelona, the city of Gaudí architecture and one of the most cultural corners of Spain, welcomes guests. The streets of Barcelona are full of cute bookstores, souvenir shops, small galleries, musicians run right along the boulevards and entertain passers-by, and visitors sit at tables and sip aromatic coffee with delicious local pastries.

Valencia and especially Madrid should not be left out. There are so many museums, architectural monuments, art expositions in the capital that you can’t get around even in a few years. And when to travel around all this, if not in November, when the temperature dropped to 18-20 degrees?

Italy
In November, holiday passions in Italy move to the islands. A win-win option is Capri, which is famous for its beautiful coast of the Tyrrhenian Sea and its miraculous natural wealth. Capri will make you fall in love with the charm of the Gulf of Naples and secluded coves, where the resort beaches are hidden. And no reminder of the stone jungle, because there are only two cities on the island, far from the image of megacities.

Bulgaria
While the summer heat has given way, in Bulgaria, finally, the weather is suitable for travel, excursions and scientific research. November is the best time to explore ancient churches, learn Bulgarian customs and traditions, and get acquainted with the historical heritage of the country. Meanwhile, the resort Balchik did not seem to notice the arrival of autumn – tourists are still having fun in its open spaces, who are attracted here by the famous wineries. The recently harvested bountiful harvest promises rivers of sparkling drink at penny prices.

The end of the swimming season does not mean the end of the work of health centers and sanatoriums. Or you can become the first guests of the ski resorts of Bansko and Pamporovo.

Greece
Real relaxation begins in Greece in autumn, when thousands of foreigners finally leave the resorts and the Greeks breathe a sigh of relief. Now you can rest. Wise tourists go to Greece just at the end of the season, when prices have dropped significantly and calmness has declared itself.

The air temperature in Corfu is 20 degrees. It’s a little chilly for sea entertainment, but you can always swim in the pool – in warmth, comfort and with a glass of intoxicating potion at the ready. The autumn time does not spoil and Santorini, Crete, Poros, Lesvos, Samos, Thessaloniki and even Athens, wise with the historical heritage.

Germany

Germany is not spoiled by a tropical climate, so autumn here is not so different from other seasons. While southern Europeans miss summer, the Germans are already happily preparing for Christmas and enthusiastically decorating the streets. Therefore, in November, city streets are neatly dressed in garlands, and sales and fairs begin in stores.

In addition, on November 11, the carnival season comes to Germany, when the Germans, known for their meticulousness and practicality, lose their heads and indulge in fun. The largest celebrations are held in Stuttgart, Cologne, Dusseldorf and Mainz. Is it worth reminding us about German beer and cuisine, which do not know the change of seasons?

Where to go to sea in November

UAE

The United Arab Emirates are good at any time of the year, since these times do not seem to exist here – well, what is autumn or winter in the desert? That’s right, the same as summer – with heat, sun and a craving for idleness. What tourists indulge in from Fujairah to Dubai, swimming on the beaches of the Gulf of Oman and enjoying thoughtful service.

You can travel for hours under water, studying the corals and their inhabitants, water skiing and yachting, driving through the desert, bypassing huge bazaars and shopping centers, or visiting mosques, Bedouin villages and exploring the remains of ancient fortresses. In Fujairah, you can swim in the El Wuraiya waterfalls or go to the thermal springs.

Dead Sea
Israel and Jordan for two got a unique treasure – the Dead Sea. And in November, the rest here is also varied and wonderful, as at any time of the year, the difference is only less hot weather, which can be considered an advantage.

Israel
Israeli beaches are not empty in November – after all, there are still 23-25 degrees in the Mediterranean Sea, which is quite enough for safe swimming and even more so for water sports. Therefore, life is still in full swing at almost all resorts. At night, tourists are occupied by nightclubs and restaurants, so you should not tune in for calm nights. It is even warmer in Eilat, where both on land and at sea it is at least 25-27 degrees. In autumn, it will be great to visit the shrines of Jerusalem, admire the beauties of Netanya or Haifa, have fun at the discos in Tel Aviv.

Egypt
In Egypt, the slowest influence of late autumn is Sharm el-Sheikh – a unique resort, at least in that it is located in Eurasia, and not in Africa, like the mainland of Egypt. Of all the resorts of the Red Sea, Sharm combines the availability of recreation and respectability. Surrounded by sacred biblical mountains and desert, the resort offers quad bike rides, sea cruises, diving, superb shopping, desert discos, snorkeling, excursions and hotels with all the trappings for relaxation. There are more than 200 hotels in the city and new ones are constantly opening. In terms of organization, Sharm is clearly ahead of other Egyptian resorts, becoming on a par with European ones.

China
Speaking of resorts in China, they usually mean Hainan – Chinese Hawaii with a tropical climate and appropriate nature. And nature has endowed the island with everything that a tourist corner needs. The summer heat stays here almost the whole year, for example, in November the temperature reaches 25 degrees and above, while the water is even warmer – 27 degrees. But Hainan does not live by beaches alone, here you can see the mouth of an extinct volcano, visit the ethnographic villages of local peoples, visit the settlements of artisans, swim in the thermal springs of Silun, visit natural parks and ride through the jungle.

Cuba
It’s a long way to Liberty Island, but it’s worth it. None of those who have been here and known the beauty of the Caribbean Sea have yet returned disappointed, on the contrary, the desire to return will haunt you for a long time. As for the time of year, the tourist season is just beginning in November. Until April, dry, sunny and passionately hot weather will reign here.

Cuba has the best and most exciting diving – recognized by the diving community and ordinary tourists. Cuba has the most beautiful and sensual girls. In Cuba, there are many medieval temples, the remains of fortresses, colonial palaces and much more. The beaches are covered with white sand, and most hotels are carefully fenced off from the rest of the world, protecting guests from the bustle of the world.

Dominican Republic
In the Dominican Republic, November is as warm and friendly as the rest of the months. These are the same snow-white beaches, palm alleys, huge hotels with all conceivable and unthinkable entertainments, folklore parties with Creole rhythms, Creole cuisine and a sea of rum, which is poured here with a generous hand. In the Dominican Republic, you will certainly be offered to visit a tobacco factory or sugar plantations, a rum factory, visit uninhabited islands and go around the island of Haiti on a luxury yacht.

Thailand
In Thailand, November means only one thing – it’s time to move closer to Phuket and Koh Samui, where resort life is gaining momentum. The beaches beckon with sandy blankets and ethereal bliss, while the nightlife beckons with more down-to-earth pleasures. Bangkok and Pattaya are also in business and do not waste time – during the day, guests are entertained by palaces, pagodas, temples, zoos, aquariums, parks, markets, and in the evenings – clubs, discos, massage parlors.

India
India is associated with tourists in Goa and rightly so. Here, tropical heat and low humidity prevent you from noticing the change of season. And therefore, the beach shallows do not empty, but, on the contrary, are overgrown with crowds of vacationers. Due to the dry weather, you can go on long excursions, visit the palaces of the rajas, governor’s villas, ancient temples.

Sri Lanka
In November in Sri Lanka, the summer heat and all the wealth of the island, local resorts are ready to throw at the feet of tourists. Tropical jungles, fruit and tea gardens, spice gardens, mountains, wide beaches, underwater reefs, priceless architectural monuments and Buddhist shrines, exotic cuisine, traditional medicine, water sports, in general, there is a lot of room for relaxation.

Malaysia
Malaysia is a beach paradise and it does not depend on the season. Wide sandy strips coexist with dense evergreen plantations of the tropics. Holidays in Malaysia are as sweet as the taste of exotic fruits, slightly spicy as the local spices, and heady as the cocktails poured endlessly in resort bars.

Indonesia
Thousands of Indonesian islands, each of which is different from the next, are beautiful and hospitable. Bali enjoys special love of travelers, where many go for rebirth and enlightenment. More practical people come here for the dozens of underwater bays and coral gardens, as well as for a wild break and an atmosphere of complete freedom. The piquancy of the trip is added by the rains, which like to arrange surprises and water everyone and everything in spite of the weather forecasters.

Where to go on vacation in November 2021: beach holidays, holidays in Europe and traveling with children – Svyaznoy Travel blog For impressions and road trips, you can rush across Russia, across the sea-beaches – to Turkey and the United Arab Emirates, to the Maldives and Cuba, to European countries.

Turkey: Catch Sunny Days

Marmaris, Alanya and Kemer are around 20°C, but it’s better not to count on a beach holiday and choose a hotel with an indoor or heated pool. In November, there are still many green plants and flowers, during the day it is quite possible to walk in shorts. It is pleasant to engage in active sports, make trekking trips, get acquainted with the local gastronomy and just breathe the sea air on the beach.

Good old Egypt

In Egypt, the windy season begins in November, so it’s better to go to Sharm El Sheikh: the resort is protected by a mountain range.

Air temperature reaches 30°C, water – 25°C. Everything is conducive to snorkeling or scuba diving, admiring the fish and corals. In November, the mango season begins – the freshest, sweetest and most inexpensive fruits are available. Excursions and activities in Egypt on request.

Abkhazia. Hospitality above all!

Every year the weather in the country is different: it can be dry and warm, or it can be slushy and windy. One thing is for sure: it will be delicious and beautiful without crowds of tourists!

Things to do:

  • Walk along the embankments, inhaling the sea air and marveling at the walruses.
  • Transfer by car or taxi between natural attractions: Lake Ritz, New Athos caves, Ritsa or Psyrtskhinsky nature reserve, Alpine meadows and the Valley of Seven Lakes.
  • Visit the New Athos Monastery and ancient basilicas in Pitsunda.
  • Eat ahead for the winter fruits: tangerines, oranges, kiwi, persimmon, feijoa and grapes.
  • Warm up with homemade wine and young chacha.
  • Learn local dishes: cherry plum sauce, khachapuri, suluguni cheese, beans/eggplants with nuts in local restaurants – apatskhi.
  • Get to one of the Abkhazian villages, for example, in Duripsh or Achandara, for a wine festival.
  • Visit a trout farm: Otkharsky or Chernorechensky.

Maldives: goodbye hulhangu!

In November, the monsoon – hulhangu – stops, the rains almost end. The dry season will begin with daytime temperatures around 30°C, which lasts until April. People go to the Maldives to swim, sunbathe, dive and enjoy the warmth.

UAE: get lost in the sands and malls

In November, the heat will subside, the temperature will be comfortable, and the climate will be mild – ideal conditions for escaping from the slush.

Things to do:

  • Spending time on the beach: swimming and sunbathing.
  • Sightseeing: Al Fahidi Historic Quarter, Burj Al Arab Hotel, Palm Jumeirah, Burj Khalifa Observation Deck, Sheikh Zayed Mosque, Aquarium.
  • Go shopping at the huge Dubai Mall and the markets.
  • Go to museums, such as the Louvre Abu Dhabi.
  • Sports lovers should head to the mountain town of Hatta. There, among the date plantations and picturesque mountains, you can go mountain biking, hiking or kayaking on the lake.
  • Try extreme sports: kart racing, skydiving, desert jeeping, diving.

Cuba, my love!

Cuba is getting closer for Russians: air traffic between our countries has been restored. In October, the rainy season ends on Liberty Island, and the dry season begins next month. Air temperature: +27-30°C. One of the most attractive options of all where to go on holiday in November!

Things to do:

  • Spending time on white sandy beaches with turquoise waters: Varadero Beach with a length of 19 km, Playa Ancon on the south coast or Cayo Santa Maria Beach.
  • Explore colonial towns and authentic Indian villages.
  • Explore natural attractions: tobacco plantations, tropical forests, Viñales karst valley, Las Cuevas de Belyamar caves and others.
  • Drink Cuban rum on November 16, when the people of Havana will celebrate the anniversary of the founding of the city by the Spanish conquistadors.
  • Go to the places of Che Guevara’s military glory and Ernest Hemingway’s literary glory.
  • Take a ride in a vintage car.
  • Taste local cuisine and drinks.

Interesting! Ready-made checklists for Cuba can be downloaded here.

Dominican Republic: the tropics are calling!

The Dominican Republic experiences hot weather in November with high levels of humidity. The temperature reaches 31°C, the ocean breeze softens the heat.

Things to do:

  • Enjoy white sand beaches in Punta Cana, La Romana, Juan Dolio.
  • Challenge yourself in water sports (snorkeling, diving, kitesurfing)
  • Go to the Basilica of Our Lady of Altagracia in Higuey, which looks like a spaceship.
  • Climb the famous Redonda peak to take pictures on a swing above the abyss.
  • Eat exotic at local markets.
  • Stock up on rum and coffee.
  • Ride horses along the coast.

Sri Lanka. Exploring Ceylon

The weather in Sri Lanka in November is almost the same as in other autumn months. The temperature is 28-31°C. The period from November to April is the most favorable for rest.

Things to do:

  • Forget about the rush and enjoy your vacation close to nature. The coast of Sri Lanka stretches for more than a thousand kilometers. Soft sand, palm trees, reefs and colorful fish will make your vacation unforgettable.
  • Dive underwater and look for the remains of sunken ships.
  • Buy a piece of jewelry as a keepsake – just choose a specialized store for shopping!
  • Touch the ancient “Buddha tree”.
  • Buy tea.

Mexico

Experienced travelers recommend sending to Mexico in November: tropical downpours no longer threaten, the heat subsides, and the sea acquires the perfect color. The water temperature on the coasts is from 28 to 30 ° C, the air warms up to 28 ° C.

Greece

Of course, this is not a hot summer. In Greece, cloudy days are possible, it rains, and in the north it is completely cold at night. But compared to Russia in November, it’s just a paradise here. It’s time to explore new regions of your beloved country, when the tourist flow subsided, and prices became more democratic. Many Russian tourists consider Greece among the first countries where you can relax in November abroad.

Hungary

November along the banks of the Danube is a transitional period before the onset of winter, so you should not expect heat. The average temperature is 7-8 °C, rain is likely. It is unlikely that you will be able to sunbathe, but no one has canceled cultural holidays: you can still go to museums and exhibitions, spend time in cafes, taste goulash and strudel, look into the ruin bars of Budapest, and stare at shopping centers. In addition, spas with legendary mineral springs still receive visitors.

Bulgaria

Hospitable Bulgaria is waiting for guests all year round. True, in November it makes little sense to fly to resorts: you won’t be able to swim, and sitting on the beach in the rain is not the most pleasant prospect. But if you want Shopska salad, sea breeze and walks through pretty sights – why not? Especially when the prices are good.

Montenegro

A compact and picturesque country, but in November no one wants to go to sea. Cold! Nevertheless, an opportunity opens up to appreciate other advantages of this fertile land. To go around the Montenegrin towns, for which there is always not enough time, to get out into the mountains and nature reserves, to pay tribute to the warming gastronomy … And although sunny days in November are quite possible, you should throw an umbrella in your luggage.

Slovenia

You can’t hide from the bad weather here, November usually brings fogs and rains, but for those who miss Europe, this is a great destination. Russians are allowed to enter, but there is no direct flight.

Things to do:

  • Bask in the thermal spa. Terme Dobrna is the oldest thermal spa, Radenci with mineral water, Čatež with indoor and outdoor pools.
  • Admire natural sights: Lake Bled, Vintgar Gorge, Postojnska Pit Cave.
  • Arrange a tour of ancient castles.
  • Explore the local cuisine and wines. In Slovenia, orange wines are produced with the aroma of nuts and spices.
  • Get to know Ljubljana, the capital of a small country with a castle surrounded by the Alps.
  • Enjoy the cozy town of Piran on the Adriatic coast. Narrow streets, Venetian architecture, houses with red tiled roofs and a long pier.

Serbia: home of Kusturica with Balkan motives

At one time, the Lonely Planet guide named the capital of Serbia, Belgrade, one of the cities with the best nightlife. But that was in pre-corona times. Now the best choice: nature and outdoor walks. Stock up on warm waterproof clothing. Daytime temperature jumps: from 2-3°C to 11-14°C.

Things to do:

  • Enjoy the European atmosphere in Belgrade.
  • Take a ride on the “Sharganska Osmica” mountain railway.
  • Take your time to discover new cities: Novi Sad, Subotica, Palic, Zlatibor, Vrsac and others.
  • Breathe fresh air in the Djerdap or Tara national parks.
  • Pray in Serbian Athos or on the Serbian Holy Mountain, where 16 medieval monasteries are located.

Sochi

Even in a rainy month there are more sunny days on the Black Sea coast than in the more northern regions of our country. So why not consider Sochi among the places where to relax in November! There are still many activities: the promenade and trips to the mountains, Sochi Park and the delightful arboretum, southern nature and many new tastes and impressions. In addition, you can conquer hiking trails, ride horses, explore city attractions.

Crimea

Bad news: it can be rainy and chilly, the rainy season is coming. Good news: there are no tourists, prices have dropped, and the sea has remained the sea. The temperature in November reaches up to 15°C, although it can be chilly at night.

Things to do:

  • Go to a sanatorium with a chic park, an indoor pool and a private beach, and just make promenades every day. Improve your health: take baths and showers, go for a massage.
  • Travel by rented car or taxi between palaces and wineries.
  • Make your own auto route along the southern coast of Crimea: spend one day in each of them and go further.
  • Attend tastings from local wineries and triple the wine journey.
  • Go to restaurants and get acquainted with the Crimean cuisine.

Read our complete guide to Crimea here.

Moscow

Still, November in Moscow is not the most friendly month. It can be chilly, dank and damp. But do not discount the capital! When the weather is not whispering, it’s time to explore the city from an unusual angle. Go to the Armory and lesser-known museums, visit a Mosfilm tour, drive around estates in the suburbs.

St. Petersburg

We take scarves, hats, gloves and insulated shoes with us. Winds from the Baltic in November are ruthless! Walking along the canals and bridges as carelessly as in summer is no longer possible, but it opens up the opportunity to bypass the sights that are constantly put off for later: palaces, museums, art galleries, exhibition centers. Great excuse for a hike! And a day in the Hermitage is never superfluous.

Golden Ring of Russia

November is a great month to decide on a trip to the legendary cities of the Golden Ring. Sergiev Posad, Pereslavl-Zalessky, Rostov the Great, Yaroslavl, Kostroma, Ivanovo, Suzdal and Vladimir and other cities are ready to reveal their secrets. Time to break out of the routine and get acquainted with the reserved corners of Russia in autumn decoration.

Kaliningrad

You should not go to the Curonian Spit or count on swimming in the Baltic waters: it will be dank and cold! But warming up with coffee and mulled wine, tasting marzipan and bedbugs in the establishments of Kaliningrad and the region is a real pleasure for those who are ready to spend autumn in a European format!

Dagestan

In November, no one guarantees that there will be no rain, but you can get lucky with dry weather. The air temperature is about 6°C. Dagestan is comparable in area to Georgia, and there are also mountains, the sea, waterfalls, a canyon and trout farms. The best thing to do is to rent a car and spend every day at a new point, a sea of impressions is guaranteed. In November, there are few tourists, accommodation and meals will be inexpensive.

In November, it is quite possible to get a lot of impressions if you go to the cities of Russia with children. Moscow will delight you with many events and ideas for family holidays. In Kazan, it is pleasant to walk along the Kremlin, the central streets and the delightful Kazanka embankment, a trip to Nizhny Novgorod will reveal picturesque details of merchant antiquity to parents and children.

There are options for November, the main thing is to choose great experiences!

  • Southern European countries

These countries include Greece, Spain and Italy. In November, it is not so warm here anymore, so most of the entertainment will be more of an educational nature than a beach holiday. But there is one exception – the Canary Islands, where the velvet season reigns at this time. The average air temperature is 25 degrees, which creates excellent conditions for getting a bronze tan. The cost of a trip to the Canaries starts from $ 700 – $ 800 per person.

    Egypt

Starts with Egypt – the most popular destination for “beach” holidays. The cost of such a trip starts from $ 350, and the quality of rest is more than acceptable. Here you will be offered the whole conceivable range of entertainment – the sea, the beach, diving, parasailing, excursions and much more.

    UAE

Holidays in the Emirates are more expensive, but worth it. Staying in the country will plunge you into the world of oriental luxury and hospitality, magnificent beaches and all the possibilities for shopping. By the way, you will probably be wondering how much money to take with you on vacation in the emirate of Dubai.

    Maldives and Seychelles

Rest in the Maldives and Seychelles is the destiny of connoisseurs of heavenly rest, snow-white sand on the beaches and the ocean transparent as a tear. Such a trip will cost at least $ 1800-2000 per person, but will be remembered for a long time. Here you can plunge into the atmosphere of complete serenity, which is formed thanks to the ocean, sand, coral reefs, colorful fish, and the barely audible sound of the surf. In November, these islands have all the conditions for diving enthusiasts – the pleasure of soaring in the underwater world among the ocean beauties.

    Goa

November is great for a holiday in Goa – the most beautiful island, which has all the attributes of a paradise holiday – beaches, climate and the highest level of service in local hotels. A ticket with a flight will cost you a modest $ 2,000 – $ 2,500.

    Sri Lanka

The island-tea plantation attracts many tourists from all over the world to its shores. Tropical greenery that covers almost the entire island, beaches with golden sand, the hospitality of local residents and Buddhist temples – all this will create all the conditions for you to relax and learn something new and unknown before.

    Thailand

Once upon a time, a holiday in Thailand was considered something exceptional, but in recent years it has become more affordable. For $1000 you will be offered not only swimming on beautiful beaches, unusual food and of course the famous Thai massage, which is often one of the most important components of visiting this Asian country.

There are other options for recreation – Israel, Mexico, Cuba, Mauritius. Each of them has its own characteristics – the final choice is yours. Have a nice holiday!

P.S. If you want to go on excursions, then the following tips will surely be useful to you.

👁 Do we always book a hotel on Booking? In the world, not only Booking exists (🙈 for a high percentage of hotels – we pay!). I have been using Rumguru for a long time, it is really more profitable 💰💰 Booking.
👁 And for tickets – in air sales, as an option. It has been known about him for a long time. But there is a better search engine – skyscanner – more flights, lower prices! 🔥🔥.

Holidays in November 2022: where to go to relax in November at sea or on an excursion?

So where to go in November?

Holidays in November do not promise to be boring, cold and rainy. One has only to buy a ticket to hot countries and forget about gloomy weather. The undoubted advantage of the November vacation is the fact that many children finish their studies and are going on vacation. Thus, the whole family can go on a journey.
