Tenerife north, Canary Islands – October Weather

What’s the weather like in Tenerife in October?

While not a noticeable difference, October can be a time for change in and around Tenerife North. It is during this time of the year that temperatures both on land and sea begin to cool off just slightly and the amount of rain begins to tick upward yet again. However, the region can still be a terrific place to visit at this time of the year.

Sea Temperature

Despite ocean temperatures getting cooler in the Atlantic Ocean, it is still possible to swim during the month. Average sea temperatures are down to 22°C (72°F), however, this is still pleasant enough for a long swim.

Temperature

On land, temperatures this month are also headed downward, but visitors will still be comfortable without a light jacket both in the daylight and at night. Average afternoon highs can reach 26°C (79°F).  While this temperature is several degrees lower than the hottest temperatures of the year in August, they are still warm enough for shorts and short sleeves. Average overnight lows will dip to a pleasant 20°C (68 F).  The average temperature of both the afternoon highs and overnight lows on a daily basis for the month is 23°C (73°F) which is very mild for autumn.

Rain

Rainfall amounts begin to pick up again as the seasons begin to change. With this change, can also come some brief, heavy downpours. The average amount of rain for the month is a manageable 20mm spread over an average of 5 days. Sunlight is also still present with most days seeing an average of 8 hours of basking sun.

With pleasant weather conditions and mainly dry days, late summer/early fall is still a great time to plan a vacation to the northern part of the island.  In fact, as weather begins to turn more unpredictable in mainland Spain at this time of the year, the weather is still remarkably consistent on Tenerife.

Tenerife Hotels in October

Hotel Tigaiga

October vacations can be made complete by picking the correct hotel. One winner in Puerto de la Cruz is Hotel Tigaiga. This four-star, family friendly hotel is located within walking distance of the center of town as well as Playa Jardin and Lago Martianez. There are 76 rooms on four floors and the hotel underwent a renovation completed in early 2015. There is a heated outdoor swimming pool, sauna and views from throughout the property.

Hotel Riu Garoe

Hotel Riu Garoe is another high-quality hotel located in Puerto de la Cruz that offers entertainment, complete services and wonderful facilities for each of its guests. The hotel has views of the surrounding water as well as a freshwater pool, indoor pool and an award-winning buffet. There are several different room styles to choose from and all rooms come with a balcony or terrace, air conditioning and satellite TV. Overall, the resort offers a courtesy bus to nearby towns, themed outdoor pools, children’s pool, gardens and pool-side hammocks.

Tenerife Beach for October

October is the last month of the year that visitors can enjoy the surf without the water being too cold. Sea surface temperatures during the month see an average of 22°C (72°F). After October, sea temperatures will begin to dip as winter settles in.

Playa Benijo

Like many other beaches around Tenerife North, Playa Benijo in Anaga is not easy to get to, but is still a favorite for both locals and tourists. The views are stunning from both the top of the cliffs as well as along the black sand beach. The waves may be a little too strong for those who are not strong swimmers, but visitors can still soak up plenty of rays.  There is just one road leading in and the entire beach is still wild and natural. Visitors can access it by going down a steep staircase.

Bars and Restaurants

Restaurant Bodega Vargas

Worth a drive for dinner is Restaurant Bodega Vargas located in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. With friendly owners and a staff, the restaurant has an extensive wine list as well as a mainly meat based menu. Despite the excellent food, the prices are not outrageous and the view is outstanding.

Lava Beach

Those looking for Italian food may want to look up Lava Beach in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The food is all freshly made is sold at very reasonable prices. This is a great place to unwind with a glass of wine and locally sourced dishes.

Located in the center of the northernmost part of Tenerife, the Rural Parque de Anaga is a natural park with a tremendously lush forest.  Ideal for hiking, this park is filled with trails winding up and down hills and through dense trees.  There are even 26 villages located throughout the park that house over 2,000 people.  If you make the trip to the park, bring water and a map to stay hydrated and on track.

Sun cream with 30 or 50 SPF is mandatory as well, since the sun continues to burn during the day and you will regret not using sun cream, even when if it’s cloudy.

The weather in Puerto de la Cruz starts to cool down faster than in the south, but the weather is still pleasant and many people actually prefer it to the blazing sun in the south. Although you will probably need a cardigan at night when in Puerto de la Cruz in October, during the daytime the temperatures will still be in the mid 20s°C, so a T-shirt and shorts will be all you need during the day.

Tenerife South in October

Tenerife South in October is a bit quieter than in summer, but there is still plenty going on. The good thing about Tenerife is the fact that the weather is pretty much nice all year round, which means that the tourist season here never ends. But there are different types of tourists visiting at different times of the year. October is one of the more chilled and relaxed months, up until the week when families with children on half term holidays arrive.

Which resort to choose in October?

In October we prefer the weather and atmosphere in Playa San Juan or Puerto de Santiago over the more popular resorts like Playa de las Americas or Costa Adeje.

You can still go to pretty much any beach in Tenerife South and it will be absolutely perfect for swimming. We love Playa Troya and Playa del Duque, as they are not as packed in October like they are in summer.

Depending on where you are from originally, the weather in Tenerife South in October will probably seem like summer back home or even better, since you can sunbathe almost every day, the ocean is perfect for swimming and the days are still long and hot.

Weather in October

October is a sunny month on this Spanish island. The resorts of the southwestern and southeastern coasts are flooded with warm rays of the sun for about 28 days. The month turned out to be less clear in the north of the island, where the number of sunny days does not exceed 22. When planning a trip, it should be borne in mind that closer to the third decade of the month, the weather begins to break down. Increasingly, rain clouds begin to make their way to the south of the peninsula, the nights become cooler, and the sky from predominantly clear becomes cloudy.

The north of the island is characterized by a higher level of precipitation, which falls twice as much as in the south. Therefore, when choosing a resort, it is worth betting on the southern part of the island.

The ocean in the Canary Islands is never warm (maximum water temperature +25). In October, the water is still warm enough for a full swim, but closer to November it cools down from +24˚ to +22˚.

Shopping – what to look for

Traditional lace, chrysolite jewelry, palm honey or agave sweets – souvenirs from Tenerife are original. If you believe the reviews of experienced travelers, it is better to make any purchases in the north of the island, since in the south all the shops belong to the Indians, who have a peculiar idea of trade. And tourists have a great chance to buy a fake at an inflated price in this part of the island.

Locals prefer to buy everything in Santa Cruz, as there are good shopping centers in the capital. A shopping tour from south to north will cost about 22 euros – but go if you like the idea of spending the whole day in the shops.

You should be wary of offers to buy a sightseeing tour of the island. For about 100 euros, tourists are offered to visit almost everywhere. What tourists got in reality did not arouse rave reviews from them: very frequent stops near certain souvenir shops, the goods in which are more expensive than in city stores, a few minutes in beautiful places, a good dinner and other entertainment from about hours until five in the evening.

If possible, it is best to rent a car (the same 100 euros, but for three days), and drive around the island on your own, stop in places you like, and not just in shops. It is better not to spare money for renting a Russian-language navigator – the movement on the island is confusing, and the gadget will help you not to get lost.

Is it possible to see all the most interesting things on the island in a few days? How not to miss the most important thing? Teide Volcano, Maski Village, miniature park… what else? Here’s a tip for you – a list of places to see in Tenerife in the first place.

The disadvantages of Tenerife in October for shopping lovers are the lack of discounts at this time. If in June or February, when there is a grand sale all over the island, it is quite realistic to buy things (for example, shoes for only 10 euros, with a 70% discount), then in the middle of autumn there will be no such sales yet.

Reviews about the holidays in Tenerife

Tamara, Kazan:

“The climate in Tenerife in October is very comfortable. It is worth taking a ticket even just because of the Atlantic Ocean, beautiful and clean. I am glad that the infrastructure is very developed on the island, the locals are friendly to tourists. And, of course, the volcano. However, you need to know that here you will not find advertising beaches, special exoticism and tropical riot of greenery.

Ekaterina, Moscow:

“The island is not rich in vegetation, but very beautiful. Amazed by the huge number of elderly vacationers. In October, the ocean was cool, and the breeze was picking up. However, for surfers – the best place to relax. Even if you go for only 10 days, and at the same time rent a car, then you can see all the sights that are declared in tourist booklets without any problems and extra costs.

Denis, Novgorod:

“Great autumn holidays in Tenerife! The weather is gorgeous, very mild climate. The sea, kind people, nature – I liked everything. The south is sunny, the water temperature in the ocean was +25 degrees. But in the north, the climate is different, cooler. Luckily, there was no rain at the end of October, the sun is very gentle, even at noon.

Tenerife climate

0029

The island is unique in this respect. As already mentioned, the water temperature in Tenerife in different months differs slightly. It reaches its maximum values of +24…+26 degrees in July-October. In May, June and November the sea warms up to +21…+23 degrees. In December, January, February, March and April, the water temperature is about +20, which, in general, is suitable for swimming, at least it is quite possible to plunge for a few minutes, especially in the afternoon.

Rains in Tenerife

The island is not subject to heavy rainfall, the rains in Tenerife mainly fall in the north, where there are no popular beaches. But even there, from May to September, they almost never happen. The most rainy is January and February, but the precipitation is still less than in the popular European resorts at this time. True, at this time there are more waves on the sea.

So you don’t have to worry that your vacation will be overshadowed by the weather, but in summer and early autumn we can guarantee the sun all your vacation.

Beach season in Tenerife, when is the best time to relax

Tenerife can be a holiday all year round. And even when the beach season has already ended in European resorts, in Tenerife it continues for at least another 1.5 months.

The best time to relax is summer and autumn, when daytime temperatures are very comfortable (+23…+26) and the water is warm (+22…+25 degrees).

However, if you want a piece of summer in winter, then welcome to December, January, February, March and April. We can definitely guarantee that you will get your portion of sun and tan, and on some days you can even swim. It is only worth choosing the southern beaches, and not the northern ones, where there are a lot of waves. But for surfers, the recommendation will be exactly the opposite.

Many beaches are protected by breakwaters, so you can swim even in strong winds. The only thing you need to be careful when traveling with children.

The highest season in Tenerife, when most people are in August and September. In our opinion, the ideal holiday time is October, when there are fewer people, and the weather and the sea are exactly the same as in summer.

Spain in Russian

The Canary Islands, in particular Tenerife, should be chosen for your vacation…

… if you have never lived on an island: staying on a small piece of land is an unusual feeling, and from the south of Tenerife, in good weather, you can see as many as three neighboring islands – La Gomera, La Palma and El Hiero;

… if you have traveled all over mainland Spain and are looking for new experiences: to see the black sand, to admire the majestic volcano, of course, to taste the Canarian cuisine without tapas and special local wines, to get acquainted with other curious things that can only be found on the island;

… if you are a surfer: to catch the wind, you don’t have to fly a day and a half to Asia – come to El Medano, where you can ride windsurf and kitesurf 300 days a year, where there are many competitions and there are qualified instructors;

… if you are a young mother: there are a lot of young parents and single mothers with preschool children here, as it is warm in winter, there are beaches with a gentle “children’s” wave. It’s more fun together!

… if you are an elderly person and if you have chronic respiratory diseases: thanks to the special pines, the air here is curative and brings relief from asthma, tuberculosis, as well as disorders of the nervous system and metabolism, cardiovascular diseases. The cool ocean tempers, and the water from the mountain springs cleanses the body.

How to get to different parts of the island

Tenerife has two airports, which the locals are very proud of, and it can be difficult to decide which one to take a ticket to without understanding the scale and geography of the island. So, the area of the island is 2057 sq. km – it’s like four Novosibirsk or St. Petersburg with its suburbs, or even a little less than Moscow. Therefore, if you liked accommodation in the south, but you found tickets only to the northern airport, then it will take about 2 hours to get to the place upon arrival. For a Muscovite, such a distance means almost nothing; you can immediately rent a car. But for the locals, this is a real trip to the end of the world! On a municipal bus, such a trip will take forever, and a taxi is too expensive, so do not confuse Aeropuerto Tenerife Sur and Norte. Since the island is of volcanic origin, it is impossible to drill a subway here, and the only transport is a bus. A multi-colored tram rides between Santa Cruz and La Laguna, this is such a local entertainment.

It is extremely difficult to move around the island without transport. The bus is a separate attraction in Tenerife: it can be fun, it can be scary. It’s fun because funny Canarian pensioners ride the buses (everyone else has their own cars, and tourists mostly ride in rented cars or taxis), who communicate very animatedly, and the driver is always the star of the area, everyone waves to him, and he smiles in answer.

And it’s scary because almost half of the towns that run along the route of the buses are at an impressive height, and the buses travel along the serpentines along with ordinary cars, sometimes making turns of 90 degrees without any view of the oncoming lane. By bus you can get from anywhere to any other, often with transfers. For some reason, stops are not announced here, so it’s better to personally ask the driver to stop. And, of course, buses never arrive on schedule, it can suddenly turn out to be “holiday” on any day, and the traffic interval is measured in hours.

If you still decide to take a bus ride in Tenerife, then it is advantageous to take a subscription with a nominal value of 15 or 25 euros, otherwise you will have to pay in cash, and the price will depend on the distance of the trip. This is also convenient because if you don’t have change, you can be dropped off for unpaid travel. According to the instructions, the driver is not allowed to accept banknotes over 20 euros. This problem exists in Spain as well. A nice detail: if, for example, you are traveling with a group, and the amount on the subscription account suddenly wasn’t enough for everyone, it doesn’t matter, you can pay in cash, keeping the fare discount (about 30%)! Unused funds from the subscription cannot be returned.

Also, the bus here is called guagua, not bus. In the rest of Spain they don’t say that. Usually this word is used in Latin America, in consonance with the bus horn. Taxis in Tenerife are expensive. For filing take 8 euros and then on the counter. Wealthy Germans love the resort, and taxi prices here are the same as in their homeland, but for Spain it is on average expensive.

Approximate travel prices:

  • South Airport – Las Americas – 25-30 euros
  • South Airport – Los Gigantes – 55 euros
  • South Airport – Puerto de la Cruz – 100 euros
  • North Airport – Puerto de la Cruz – 35 euros
  • North Airport – Las Americas – 95 euros
  • North Airport – Santa Cruz – 15-20 euros
  • Las Americas – Santa Cruz – 85 euros
  • Las Americas – Teide (funicular) – 65 euros
  • Las Americas – Icod de los Vinos – 65 euros
  • Las Americas – Maska Gorge – 50 euros
  • Las Americas – Club “Achaman” – 15 euros

The ideal way to get around Tenerife is with a rental car. Gasoline is cheap here, highways are high-speed, the road map is quite understandable. Car theft is rare, but there are thefts, although cars are opened carefully without damaging them. Of course, this most often happens in tourist places, for example, in the parking lots of picnic areas in the National Park, at the Teide funicular, etc. Do not leave anything of value in your car in the parking lot.

Island of beautiful and unusual weather

The famous cliché about Tenerife – “Island of Eternal Spring” – is both true and not entirely true. Yes, eternal summer reigns on the south coast, but there are also absolutely wild places where it is cool and humid all year round. The climate is different everywhere, it changes both when climbing a volcano, and simply when moving from south to north.

Sandstorm “Kalima” can meet you on vacation. The Canary Islands as a whole are subject to this natural phenomenon; in recent years, Kalima has begun to come to Tenerife more and more often, almost once a month. The air temperature rises sharply and noticeably, a moderate or strong hot wind from Africa begins to blow, humidity decreases, and the sky is completely covered with a gray haze. Everything looks rather unpleasant.

It is difficult to breathe from the wind, it is saturated with dust and sand. In addition, the feeling is as if you are standing by a huge fire, and it is bursting with heat right in your face. It is exhausting, your head may ache, but there is no serious threat to health in this wind, you just have to be patient. “Kalima” lasts from 2 to 7 days and disappears suddenly and without a trace, only spoiling your vacation photos. When to visit Tenerife is an ideal place for wintering, and for life without a cold in general, at any time of the year.

Please note that the weather forecast in Tenerife is usually shown for Santa Cruz. To choose the exact dates, look at the weather in a particular city, for example, Las Americas and Puerto de la Cruz are two resorts located diametrically opposite to each other. The average annual temperature is 20–21°C. In summer, the strongest heat in August reaches 30 ° C, which is quite tolerable. For comparison, the highest daily temperature in Madrid in August 2016 was 39°C. Precipitation in Tenerife is an extremely rare and at the same time common phenomenon. The top of the volcano is always covered with snow in winter, and off the coast it rains several times at the end of February and resembles the Russian “mushroom rain”. The climate, though tropical, is dry and without showers.

This island has an amazing variety of landscapes and landscapes, and you can choose the weather according to your mood as you move from place to place!

Happy Islands, Champs Elysees, Gardens of the West … so the ancient Greek and Roman writers and poets called these places. The Canary Islands are an archipelago of volcanic origin inhabited by the indigenous tribes of the Guanches. The Guanches are tall, fair-skinned, and a few centuries ago they lived on the slopes of mountains, in caves or in small round-shaped settlements. In 1496, the Canaries became part of the Castilian crown after a series of battles in which the Guanches showed themselves courageously and nobly. Columbus’ ships made stops for fresh water and food supplies on the islands of Gran Canaria and La Gomera before sailing towards the New World.

Tenerife

General description

As mentioned above, Tenerife is one of the major islands of the Canary archipelago which belongs to Spain and together with La Palma, La Gomera and El Hierro forms the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. With a surface area of 2,034.38 square kilometers and a population of 891,111 in 2016, Tenerife is the largest island of the Canaries and the most populated island in Spain.

The city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is the capital of the province of the same name and has a population of 206.965 people (2012) and more than 400,000 people in the urban area. Also, this city is one of the capitals of the Canary archipelago, the second capital is the city of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The two capitals coexist according to the corresponding decree of 1927, before that Santa Cruz de Tenerife was the only capital. The third largest in the Canaries and the second in Tenerife is the city of San Cristoval de La Laguna, the historical part of which is included in the list of the Heritage of Humanity. The population of San Cristoval is 152.222 people.

In addition to the city of San Cristoval de La Laguna, there is another place on the island that is also included in the UNESCO Heritage of Humanity list – this is Teide National Park , which is the most visited in Spain and all over the world. This park has the highest elevation in all of Spain and is also home to the third largest volcano in the world, whose base lies on the seabed, Teide. Among the local features, one can also note the Anaga mountain range, which, due to its natural and ethnographic richness, was included by UNESCO in the catalog of the Biosphere Reserve in 2015.

The Carnival of the capital Santa Cruz de Tenerife enjoys great popularity and is designated as a Holiday of International Tourist Interest and of great importance on a global level. In addition, the island has a variety of architecture, among which colonial and modern stand out, among the latter the most popular is the modern building of the Tenerife Auditorium. Tenerife is also considered a tourist destination throughout Spain and beyond. Hosting more than five million tourists every year, it ranks first in terms of attendance among the Canaries.

Geographical position

Tenerife is located between 28th and 29th parallels of north latitude and 16th and 17th meridians of west longitude, while it occupies a central position among the islands of Gran Canaria, La Gomera and La Palma. It is located 300 km from the African continent and 1000 km from the Iberian Peninsula.

Tenerife is the largest island of the Canary archipelago, triangular in shape, with a surface area of 2,034.38 square kilometers and a coastline of 342 kilometers. In addition, Tenerife is the highest island in Spain and the tenth highest in the world: in its center rises Peak Teide, which has a height of 3.718 meters above sea level. Around Tenerife there are more than 200 small islands, among which Anaga, Garachico and Fasna stand out, having a total surface of 213.835 square meters.

Tenerife climate

All over the world Tenerife is known as “Island of Eternal Spring” . Its climate is largely determined by the trade winds, the moisture of which is mainly condensed in the north and northeast zones, forming a huge amount of clouds that are at an altitude of 600-1800 meters from the surface.

Another factor that makes the climate milder in the Canaries compared to regions of the planet with the same latitude, such as the Sahara desert, is the Canarian cold sea current. This current cools, lowers the temperature of the water off the coast of the island. Finally, Tenerife’s orography itself influences its climate and contributes to its slogan “Eternal Spring”.

For the most part the climate of Tenerife is temperate , warm and very mild in all seasons. Here there are no cold months, but there are also no months of sweltering heat. Average temperatures in winter are 18°C and 25°C in summer, although these are relative and general figures. Obviously, there are different weather contrasts, for example, in winter you can sunbathe on the beaches of the island, while at an altitude of over 3000 meters you can observe a snow cap on the top of the Teide.

Another example of climatic contrast can be found in the city of Santa Cruz de La Laguna. As a rule, Santa Cruz enjoys a mild and warm climate throughout the year with temperatures well above those of the rest of La Laguna. In addition to temperature differences, other areas have higher levels of precipitation.

The north and south of Tenerife have different climatic characteristics. On the windward side, there is a 73% higher level of precipitation, correspondingly higher relative humidity and lower light levels (number of sunny days per year). The maximum level of precipitation was recorded on the windward side at an altitude of 1000-1200 meters, that is, at the level of the La Orotava mountains.

However, it is most significant to mention that the north of Tenerife has no place where the annual rainfall is below 250 mm. And at the same time, in the opposite south, these estimates are much less. The only two southern redoubts that differ from the rest of the south in higher rainfall are Masca and Guimar, which is most likely due to their physical characteristics, which provide the trade winds here.

As an anecdote, it is interesting to mention that European physicians, mainly English and Dutch, in the 19th century praised the climate of the north of Tenerife and recommended it to their patients for the treatment of senile diseases and diseases of the circulatory system.

Tourism in Tenerife

The economy of Tenerife , like the economy of the other Canary Islands, is based mainly on tourism (60% of GDP). As early as the 19th and most of the 20th century, the influence of foreign tourism, primarily English, on the development of these islands in terms of agriculture is highlighted. Tenerife attracts a large number of Spanish tourists themselves and tourists from all over the world, and is the most visited Canary Island. Tourists come here in search of sandy beaches, diverse cultural offerings and an active nightlife.

Later, during the World Wars, the tourism sector lost its importance, however, with the beginning of the second half of the last century, tourism in the Canary Islands begins to evolve significantly. At the beginning, Puerto de la Cruz stands out due to its favorable climate and attractive places located in the northern valley of La Orotava. In an effort to cover the sector of sun and beach tourism, since the 1980s there has been a tourist boom in the south of the island, where the cities of Arona and Adeje become the most popular with their areas of Christiane, American Beach and Adeje Coast, which to this day have about 65% of the island’s hotels.

Tenerife welcomes over 5 million tourists every year and is the preferred holiday destination for most visitors to the Canary Islands. Also, these numbers show how many resources the island consumes (space, energy, water, and so on).

Also of great importance is the Teide National Park, which ranks second in the list of the most visited parks in the world. Another attractive feature of the island, which places the island among the most attractive places on the planet, is the beauty of its starry sky. It is in the Teide National Park that the largest telescope in Europe, the Gregor Telescope, is located, with which you can enjoy the most breathtaking images of star clusters.

In general, we can say that in Tenerife there are always two alternatives to rest . You can do nothing and go paragliding from Isaña to Forest Krona. Do nothing and just walk through the forest of Era Terciaria. You can do nothing and feel like a small creature, watching the steep slopes of the Giants from a height of 900 meters. Or you can really do nothing and spend the whole day in a hammock on the beach under the soft rays of the sun. Another way to relax is to explore the diversity of the gastronomy of the Canary Islands, their rich and contrasting culture, here you can see whales, play golf.

In Tenerife, it’s very easy to find something to your liking, night or day, adult or child. The entertainment offerings range from scientific curiosities and interest in natural wonders such as visiting the Botanical Gardens, Loro Park in the north or whale watching in the south of the island, to the entertainment offered by the water parks Siam Park, Aqualand The coasts of Adeje are shared with other attractions, as well as a more sporty type of recreation, such as hiking along the trails that have a dense network on the island.

The nights in Tenerife are very pleasant due to its favorable climate. Gaming casinos where you can try your luck, such as the Puerto de la Cruz Casino on Lake Martianez, the dance and ballet performance of Carmen Mota in the Pyramid of Aron, restaurants, ballrooms with international musical performances, discos and pubs with live music are just some of the opportunities that offers an overnight stay in Tenerife to its visitors.

Pros and cons of living in Tenerife (Spain)

Updated Author Oleg Lazhechnikov Views 8427

They asked me to tell you, I’ll try. Although, of course, you still need to live, otherwise not enough time has passed since the move. By the way, when you don’t really know the regions of Spain, you can start trying to live in any. This is why the Canary Islands were chosen. They just sunk into the soul from the first time, but the mainland, for example, did not.

Although not entirely correct, I compare it with Moscow, where I lived most of my life, with Israel, where I also had the experience of moving, and also a little with Thailand, where I wintered many times. So let’s just say I can’t help but draw parallels.

Pluses Tenerife

Climate and sun

Warm and no big temperature fluctuations during the year. No wonder Tenerife is called the island of eternal spring. The temperature in the south of the island fluctuates during the day from 20 to 30 degrees depending on the season, but averages around 23-25 most of the year.

It’s February now, but we still wear T-shirts, because it’s 21-23 °C somewhere. But even in summer, when it is a little hot (30 and a little higher), a cold breeze from the ocean saves. I personally really like that there is no stuffiness, from which you get so tired after a long stay in Thailand. I always wanted to live in the summer, but without stuffiness. Here it is.

I used Pro Spain Consulting. The guys are well versed legally, they were also once advised to me. I did a residence permit through them, then an extension, now we are processing citizenship for the child. Since the crisis, then knocked out a 5% discount for my subscribers – name the promotional code LIFETRIP.

True, everything depends very much on the specific location on the island, there are a lot of climatic zones. You have to be careful when you look at weather sites: it is not known at what point they measure the temperature. And yes, do not confuse the Canary Islands with the mainland of Spain, we are very far from it.

In the south of the island, it is usually 2-3 degrees warmer and the sun shines almost 365 days a year (paradise for sun-dependent people). In the north and northeast (the capital) of the island, it is often cloudy and rainy. Also, the higher above sea level, the cooler. And often the difference reaches 10-15 degrees between the coast and the village above.

My view from the window in the south of Tenerife In the north of Tenerife, the weather is colder and more often cloudy

Cleanliness and visual component

For me this is a very important parameter, otherwise people have polluted the whole planet. And if in Thailand I was ready to forgive garbage, it is stupidly invisible in the tropics (and Asia, it seems, initially you expect dirt), then in Israel, the amount of garbage infuriated me.

To be honest, there are a lot of them in Europe too. Alas. It is found in Tenerife, of course, where without it, but for me it is still at an acceptable level. I also made a special trip across mainland Spain from Malaga to Valencia, and there is also a bit too much for me (plus the homeless, which we don’t have). Now I am not talking about specific areas, because it is clear that somewhere is cleaner, somewhere dirtier, but about the feeling in general.

Visually I like the look of residential development in Tenerife. Not the gothic style of Western Europe, everything is much simpler, but everything is well-groomed, painted and cute. There is very, very little outright trash.

Santa Cruz – the capital of Tenerife and the Canary Islands There is very little trash, mostly abandoned buildings

Ecology

They say that Tenerife has a very good environment, as there is no industry and production. Everything is closed, even the garbage is taken out. There is even an opinion that due to ecology and an ideal climate, people can be cured of some chronic diseases, and children stop getting sick often.

Despite the lack of soil, there are good local fruits and vegetables. But there is no tea at all. Good products, well, or more accurately, normal/regular. It’s hard to compare because it’s very subjective, I don’t know how to check it. I buy in supermarkets (we have 3 chains here), and in general I like everything. The quality is better than any Pyaterochka / Dixie in Moscow. I do not experience a lack of food. Well, except that you have to buy buckwheat in a Russian store.

Small island

The farthest point is a maximum of 2 hours. The cities are small, there are also few traffic jams and they are not protracted, the space feels completely different from that in a large metropolis like Moscow. When you get used to it, then taking the child to school in 20-30 minutes becomes already far away.

Most of all I like that I got into the car and in 30 minutes you are in real mountains or a pine forest, everything is nearby.

It takes 30-40 minutes to get to the picnic areas in the pine forest from the house

People and society

It seems to me that people in warm countries are always much more relaxed and good-natured, they don’t have to survive in winter and minus outside. Plus there is a lot of sun, which also has to be less depressing.

There is little aggression on the road, everyone is driving very calmly, they can stop to chat, which still annoys me (I’m always in a hurry). Also here, as in all of Spain, they love children.

Non-religious country like Israel. Religion has no effect on the lives of tourists and those who have moved here, like me. Actually, I don’t go anywhere.

Internet

In Tenerife, everything is just fine with the Internet. ADSL and other technologies are becoming a thing of the past and optics are being actively used everywhere. I have an optic right now. Hello, Israel, which is all advanced, but gives out 2-3 megabits in total on the outgoing channel, despite the fact that everything constantly falls off (infrastructure features).

I have a 300 Mbps link in both directions. And the outgoing channel is really normal, they don’t cut it. They also promise to increase the speed by 2 times. But! This speed is up to resources that are territorially close. Before Russia, I have somewhere between 50-150 Mbit / s, it shows when how – it all depends on the service / site.

I pay for internet 42 euros/month. This package also includes a SIM card with free calls and 15 gigabytes of mobile Internet. Not directly cheap, but if you take the maximum tariffs in Moscow, it will come out about the same. The downside may be that if you don’t need that much, then here in Spain simpler fares are not much cheaper.

Prices

Regular or even low prices for everything, probably, except for housing and taxis. Gasoline 1 euro / liter, a check in the supermarket for a couple of bags of food 30-50 euros. In a cafe for two, 20-30 euros, if you eat moderately. Apartments in the south cost 800-1500 euros, depending on the number of rooms, their location and decoration. On average, I would lay down 1000 euros for 3 rooms (2 bedrooms + living room). In mainland Spain, or even more so in some Germany, I think it will be more expensive.

Of course, you need to compare some specific goods/services to find out what kind of budget you will have. But since this list of goods / services will be different for everyone, as well as the criteria for comfort, it is very difficult to generalize.

Speaking about me, my living budget is the same as in Moscow, plus or minus. Some are more expensive, some are cheaper. In Israel (Haifa), the general price tag came out 2 times more expensive. And in Tae … when how. So let’s say, the more European you want to live in Thailand, the more expensive it is.

Receipt at a popular restaurant: 2 drinks + 2 meals + bread/sauce

Active holidays

In Tenerife, in addition to the ocean and water sports, there is a volcano, mountains, 2 national parks and a lot of routes for trekking or just short walks. Cyclists are also held in high esteem here, and there are routes for them. It seems to me that this is a paradise for lovers of active pastime, given that all this is available all year round, and not just in summer.

And if you get tired of Tenerife, then 1-2 hours on the ferry – and you are on the neighboring islands. Surprisingly, they are completely different in terms of atmosphere, vegetation, sensations. I recently visited Gran Canaria and enjoyed it very much.

I also like that we have a lot of observation platforms and cafes with views. Wherever you go, you will see the mountains, the sea, and the roads themselves are very picturesque.

Teide Volcano in Tenerife The nearest trekking is 5 minutes from home

Cons Tenerife

There are also cons, where without them. It’s funny, but some pluses can be minuses at the same time.

Climate and Kalima

If an apartment is unsuccessfully chosen (shady side, in the mountains, in the north of the island), then it will be cool for those who love heat. Stone floors will add a cold feel, and the absence of sealed double-glazed windows will add a draft. I have not seen central heating anywhere, but in apartments there are air conditioners with heating mode.

We live in the south of Tenerife and we have an excellent apartment – the sunny side, there is air conditioning, the apartment keeps warm. So, the condo was turned on only a couple of times when it was cloudy. The end of winter is coming soon, and the temperature in the apartment did not fall below 22.

Kalima is another serious disadvantage of the Canaries. It is a hot wind from the desert, similar to the khamsin in Israel. On the one hand, it’s great when it gets warm in winter (for example, 29 instead of 23), you can go to the beach or go high in the mountains, where there is usually dubak in winter. On the other hand, the Kalima brings sand (fine particles from the desert), which makes all the islands look like a haze. Allergy sufferers may not like it very much, and for ordinary people, the air is too dry these days.

Kalima can be different in strength, for half a year there were only two, after which dust/sand accumulated on the floor of the balcony. Thanks for that too. I remember that in Israel, after each khamsin, a general cleaning is needed. But the bad thing is that, it seems, Kalims are coming more and more often, as the climate is changing. They say that 30 years ago there were almost none, and such as in the photo below came for the last time in the last century.

A very strong Kalima comes once every ten years

Not enough greenery

Not Thailand, and especially not the forest near Tver. There is vegetation, but it is all in the north of the island. And this is a very difficult choice between eternal warmth in the south and vegetation in the north when looking for an apartment. But, fortunately, to go not far from the south, so for now I chose to live in the south and travel to the north.

By the way, in the south of Spain (Malaga-Valencia) everything is not very good with greenery, in my opinion. Ideally, I would like forests and grass, like in the summer in the Moscow region and neighboring regions.

There is very little vegetation in the southern part of Tenerife, And in the north there is straight jungle

A small island

Here is a village after Moscow, some Singapore and even after Prague. There are no glass and metal skyscrapers, no big city traffic, few opportunities for cultural activities and few events, trainings, meetings, etc. Fans of megacities are not allowed here, they will die of boredom.

And the minuses can be added that this is an island in itself. Starting from the fact that it is psychologically crowded when there are kilometers of water around, ending with the fact that you can’t get into a car and go on a trip for a couple of thousand kilometers. More precisely, it is possible, but to the mainland 2 days by ferry. The only thing left is the plane. Yes, tickets to Europe are inexpensive and in general there are no problems with this. But Tenerife is not a major transfer hub, so you will have to fly to Asia with a transfer in Moscow.

Online stores

After Moscow, where you can buy at least a dash of white with mother-of-pearl buttons in 2 clicks, everything is bad in Tenerife. Online stores are located on the mainland, and not all of them have delivery to the Canary Islands. But the most difficult thing is that there is no similarity to Yandex.Market, it is not clear how to find products and compare prices. But, as I understand it, now in this respect Moscow is ahead of the rest. Although, maybe in America, too, everything is fine with this?

In fact, only the Spanish Amazon saves, as it has a lot. Amazon itself delivers to the Canary Islands, but third-party sellers (Amazon acts as a platform for selling) are again not all. And, unfortunately, I often stumble upon these when looking for all sorts of gadgets and accessories. You can order from Aliexpress, but there is a different assortment.

Shopping centers in Tenerife are also small, there are no such huge ones as Moscow MEGA, where everything is immediately available. Although I don’t like shopping centers in principle, they take too much time.

And yes, another nuance regarding working hours. No shops are open around the clock, some may not work on weekends, others have a lunch that lasts several hours (siesta). From the point of view of a consumer from Moscow, it is very unusual.

Expensive communal apartment

Tenerife has relatively inexpensive water, although even desalinated water is used. But electricity is expensive. Well, more precisely, expensive, if compared with Russia. We are used to the fact that in the Russian Federation a communal apartment costs a penny.

Now we spend about 50 euros per month on electricity. Energy-saving light bulbs are everywhere, the stove and kettle are electric, the boiler is also electric and is always on.

Mañana

Probably all of Spain, not just Tenerife. The people are too relaxed, slow and do not take a steam bath. Much is put off for tomorrow (manyana). I do not argue that this is what creates a calm atmosphere here, but it still strains. For example, something broke in the apartment – and the postponement of the arrival of the master begins.

Paid medicine

Medicine only with insurance, as, apparently, in all of Europe. And if in Russia medicine is free (although this is a controversial issue), then here it is about 30-50 euros per person per month.

But it’s great that in Spain there is free public medicine for children and pregnant women, even if they are illegal. This can already be attributed to the pluses.

P.S. Let me remind you that the above is subjective and largely depends on the perception of a particular person. I will update the post as much as possible. If you are interested in any points, ask questions.

in May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December, January, February, March, April

Weather in June

So it is not surprising that there are a lot of tourists on the island – after all, they all flee from the intense heat. The weather in Tenerife in August is not at all hot, because. winds cool the air and during the day it is rarely above +28. Average temperatures are +25…+27 degrees. During the day around +20. Weather in December

This month, in all the resorts of continental Europe, not only swimming, but also sunbathing will not be possible – it rains frequently, and the air rarely warms up to +15 degrees. During the day it is +20, the water in the sea has not yet had time to cool since the summer and is about +21 degrees. Only in the evenings will you have to wear a warm thing, because. by night, the thermometer can drop to +15, and in the morning it can be +12 degrees. Those. the usual temperature, which happens in central Russia in the summer. If the sea water seems cold, you can always swim in the pool at the hotel. The blessing of “all paid for.” Only rains on some days, and waves on the sea can upset.

In the 20th of December, on the eve of Catholic Christmas, tourists from cold Europe begin to arrive here. It gets pretty crowded. However, already in the first days of January, their New Year holidays end and they return home. They are being replaced by the Russians, whose New Year’s week is just beginning.

Best time to visit Tenerife

The largest of the Canary Islands has a warm subtropical climate. In Tenerife, there is no sudden change of seasons. During the year, the air temperature varies from +15°С to +30°С. Winters are mild and summers are moderately hot. The south and west coasts are always slightly warmer. During the cold months, the sea water temperature does not drop below +19°C, so vacationers swim all year round.

Thanks to sea winds, there is no excess humidity on the island, and the summer heat is easier to bear. These are ideal conditions for families with children, elderly travelers and tourists who suffer from heart and vascular diseases.

The beach holiday season in Tenerife lasts from May to October. In the first half of autumn, the water in the Atlantic Ocean warms up to +23…+24°C, so the peak of the tourist season in Tenerife comes not in summer, but in September and October.

Climate and weather in the Canary Islands

Possibly the best climate in the world

Although Tenerife has a climate that cannot be compared anywhere else world due to its mild nature, the weather can change as quickly and abruptly as in the British Isles.

The warmest weather is in the south and west of the island, while the east is usually windier and the north is more humid.

What can’t be denied is that Tenerife has the lowest temperature difference between summer and winter – anywhere in the world, averaging around 15°C in winter and 24°C in summer.

Tenerife owes its good fortune to its convenient location north of the Tropic of Cancer, which makes the climate subtropical, and the unusual typography of the steep mountains rising above its crown, the Teide.

Teide at 12,195 feet is the highest mountain in Spain which divides the island into two 9 climate zones0385 .

south – hot and dry desert-like in appearance with little shrubs due to vegetation.

north at overall is milder and greener than due to more precipitation and more cloud cover.

The unique quality of the climate of the Canary archipelago is determined by the high pressure anticyclone systems that develop around the Azores to the northwest.

These weather systems cause the trade winds to flow through the Canary Islands, bringing moist air with them and causing meteorological phenomenon , known as “horizontal rain” – not rain at all in the true sense of the word, but fog, which is a constant source of moisture. for dense forests that rise above Tenerife at an altitude of 500 to 1200 meters.

Air conditioning is rarely needed in Tenerife because nature has its own cooling system, ocean currents that draw cool water from the Southern Ocean ensure daytime temperatures remain comfortable despite the proximity of the Western Sahara desert a few hundred miles to the east . .

Snowy possible on Teide any time from October to May. This is one of the wonders of the island: sun lovers can stretch out on the beach, enjoying temperatures up to 20 degrees, looking up at the peak of Teide, hidden under the snow cover.

Tenerife does not have a rainy season as such although the rainfall here is mainly from November to February. It rarely rains for more than an hour or two.

Anyone who arrives at Reina Sofia Airport in the south of the island, travels by motorway to the capital of Santa Cruz and on to Puerto de la Cruz and the Orotava Valley, will appreciate the diversity Tenerife has to offer.

On one side of Santa Cruz, the scenery is changing dramatically. Gone is the hot and dry, desert countryside , replaced by a generally greener and milder atmosphere as the motorway accelerates onward and upward towards La Laguna, dominated by green fields.

Beyond is Orotava Valley, Tenerife’s market garden, where banana plantations, vineyards and many other crops thrive. The city of La Orotava is so often hidden behind the clouds that the locals call it la panza del burro – the donkey’s belly.

Farther on, in the northwest corner of the island around the town of Icod de los Vinos, the terrain changes again, taking on a look similar to the Lizard Peninsula in Cornwall, the southernmost tip of the British Isles.

Here you can see broom, juniper and heather growing next to the local Canarian pines and palms .

The Teide has a significant influence on this north-western corner that looms on the horizon. It was here that the first Spanish invaders settled, deciding that the growing conditions would be ideal for their sugar cane and vines.

And so it continued until the Teide intervened, the lava flow from the volcanic eruption in 1706 practically destroyed the port of Garachico and changed the course of the development of the island.

SELECTIONAL Mountains, Tenerifa

9000 2 subtropical climate with average daily highs of over 20°C throughout the year. Cooled by the Canary Current and the prevailing northeast trade winds, temperatures are slightly cooler than would normally be expected at this latitude (same as Orlando in Florida and less than 300 km from Western Sahara). This northeasterly breeze is at its strongest during the summer months and helps keep temperatures in the mid-twenties rather than mid-thirties.

Microclimate

The rain shadow effect caused by the inland mountains makes the southwest very arid. Conversely, most of the island’s precipitation falls on the northern slopes between 600 and 1800 meters above sea level. An interesting phenomenon that can often be observed in Tenerife is called the Sea of Clouds. This occurs when wet trade winds (sea level) condense as they rise above the island’s steep northern slope and then meet a temperature inversion layer (drier, warmer air at higher altitude) at about 1,700 meters.

These factors, combined with the island’s varied topography, mean that this relatively small island has a range of microclimates. north, as one might expect. The most significant differences in climate are often observed between areas that are actually adjacent to each other; Santa Cruz receives an average of 214 mm of rain per year and has an average temperature of 21.2 ° C, driving just a few kilometers from the airport near La Laguna (at an altitude of 617 m) and the average temperature is only 16.5 ° C, and here a whopping 557 mm of precipitation falls annually.

Looking for the sunniest spot on the island? Head inland and move above the clouds – the Isagna Observatory records an average of 3,433 hours of sunshine per year.

High altitude

Tenerife is home to Spain’s highest mountain, Teide (3718 m), which is often covered in snow in winter. It is not uncommon for northern European tourists to bask in the sun in Puerto de la Cruz while enjoying the snowy peak of Teide.

Kalima

Sometimes when the wind blows from the east or southeast of the Sahara desert, the temperature rises sharply and the air becomes thick and covered with fine red dust. Although Tenerife has not been hit as hard by the phenomenon as the Eastern Canary Islands, temperatures can become unpleasant and dusty air can cause problems for people with respiratory problems.

Tenerife – Wikivoyage Travel Guide

Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands and a great travel destination. British, Scandinavian and German tourists come in tens of thousands every year to visit its picturesque beaches and lively nightlife. It is also very popular with holidaymakers from the Spanish peninsula, especially during Easter. It offers lush forests, exotic fauna and flora, deserts, mountains, volcanoes, incredibly beautiful coastlines and picturesque beaches.

regions [edit]

The whole island is the Spanish province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which leads to inevitable confusion with the capital Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The island is divided into 31 municipalities belonging to three regions with their own special climate, history and attractiveness.

North (El Sauzal, Garachico, Icod de los Vinos, La Orotava, Puerto de la Cruz, Teide National Park, Teno Rural Park)
Due to the influence of the northeast trade winds, the north coast tends to be cooler, with somewhat erratic and overcast spring weather. Many of the island’s cultural and historical treasures are found here, as well as the El Teide volcano.
South de las Americas, Santiago del Teide, Vilaflor)
The southern coast has a hot arid climate, and it was only at the end of the 19th century that these areas began to be developed. The south is the least interesting part of the island for tourists because it lacks the heritage and charm of the north, and most of the towns are residential modern concrete structures with little architectural appeal. However, there are a few picturesque towns worth visiting in the east (Guimar, Candelaria) and Vilaflor on the southern slopes of El Teide.

    Most importantly:

Tenerife is renowned for its favorable, if not ideal, climate. Also, don’t miss the amazing whale and dolphin watching tour in Tenerife on a Freebird catamaran. Although you may experience periods of cold or rain several times after 12 years, most of the time the weather is warm and overcast. Enough said!

The landscape of the island has an attractive magic that makes you come back here again and again. Family holidays with children, a youth trip for those who want to have noisy fun, a calm and comfortable vacation for a wealthy businessman – any tourist will find a suitable vacation option in Tenerife.

Climate Tenerife

The island lies entirely in a subtropical climate, but has about 30 microclimatic zones, so different places on the coast may differ in climatic conditions. In general terms, we can say that the north is cooler and wetter, and the south and west, respectively, are warmer. Rains here are very rare, and snow can only be seen at the top of the Teide volcano.

Temperature fluctuations throughout the year range from 15 to 25 degrees Celsius. At the same time, the average values do not fall below +21 and do not exceed +27, which makes holidays in Tenerife comfortable throughout the year.

At night it gets a little cooler, but the temperature fluctuations are not significant at all. For the evening, just take a light jacket or sweatshirt with you.

There is very little rain in the southern resorts of Tenerife, most of the precipitation falls in the north and in the center of the island near the Teide volcano. In Tenerife, rains, if they happen, are very weak and short-lived – it will drip a little and that’s it.

When is the best time to go on holiday in Tenerife?

Tenerife’s high season runs from June to October. The largest number of tourists visit the island from July to August. The best time to visit Tenerife is September and October. Thanks to the blowing ocean breeze and low air humidity, there is no exhausting heat. The Atlantic Ocean during these months is maximally warmed up to 23 degrees and swimming in it is a pleasure. There are noticeably fewer tourists than in July-August. Prices, of course, are growing a little, but not so much as to refuse to rest because of this.

Low season in Tenerife – this concept is almost inapplicable for this resort, we can only talk about a slight decrease in the influx of tourists, which usually occurs in January and April. During these months the water is too cool for comfortable swimming.

Holidays on the island of Tenerife are good in their own way at any time of the year. Here you can find exactly the option that suits you.

Beach season in Tenerife

At the height of the swimming season in Tenerife in September and October, the water temperature is between 20-24 degrees. You can sunbathe in Tenerife throughout the year.

In this heavenly place, you can find a lot of interesting things to do besides swimming, but for fans of a beach holiday, we hasten to inform you: people swim here all year round! Indeed, even in the January off-season, the lowest temperature of ocean water is 19 degrees. Of course, not everyone will like such water, but in this case, 4-5 star hotels in Tenerife have heated pools.

Tenerife in spring

Tenerife’s spring state is felt throughout the year. By the way, the Coming of Spring – another of the many holidays that, among other things, the island is so rich in, is celebrated in the spring, on March 21st. March to May is warm, mild, dry weather. Light rain is rare in the north. Sunny during the day, slightly cool at night. Great sunbathing time, visiting various parks and attractions.

Tenerife in summer

Unlike most southern European resorts, Tenerife does not get very hot in summer. The maximum temperature is usually observed in August and is about 30 degrees Celsius, which, coupled with low humidity, gives quite a comfortable feeling. The days are sunny, and the sun is not “evil”, but suitable for sunbathing. Rain is possible only in the mountains, and even then no more than once a month. The water warms up to an ideal 22 degrees. For lovers of sports recreation on the water, the northern breeze blowing will come in handy! Summer holidays in Tenerife have another plus – a lot of fruits are grown on the island, which just ripen in the summer months. There are many tourists.

Tenerife in autumn

The autumn season on the island is slightly different from the summer. During the day everything is also hot, up to +25. Evenings and nights have become cooler, the temperature can drop to +17, so you should slightly warm up in clothes. But the water, as usual, is warm, the sun is gentle, so you can safely run to the beach. The amount of rain increases slightly – up to five per month on average, especially in the northwestern regions. This is due to the higher humidity of the microclimate, so in autumn the demand is increased for the resorts of the southern part of the island: Costa Adeje, Las Americas, Los Cristianos. In any case, autumn in Tenerife, with its sun, bathing ocean and natural beauty, compares favorably with the dull European slush, which manifests itself in the form of a good tourist flow compared to other resorts in Europe.

Tenerife in winter

The winter months are more like the usual not so hot summer. In the evening and at night, the coolness is felt more noticeably, but even a light sweater already saves from it. There is a little more rain, but they are short-lived, which is called “a light summer rain” or “it dripped and passed. ” In winter, lovers of discounts are very fond of relaxing – prices in Tenerife are reduced by about a quarter. The ocean is not so inviting for swimming – about +19 degrees, which significantly reduces the flow of tourists. When planning a trip, do not forget about the strong winds of the north coast, especially when you are going on an excursion to one of the wonderful National Parks of Tenerife. Dress warmly.

It’s time for holidays in Tenerife

Tenerife, as mentioned above, is under Spanish jurisdiction, respectively, and the inhabitants of the island adhere to the Catholic religion. These two facts explain the presence of a large number of church holidays, which are celebrated, however, quite secularly, with carnivals, processions, dances and other fiesta. Of the brightest, it is worth noting the “Holy Week”, which takes place before Easter. At this time, colorful processions of believers with religious symbols can be observed throughout the island. The Corpus Christi flower festival should also be noted, when large cities are covered with whole carpets of flowers. The celebration of the Day of Our Lady of Candelar (she is considered the patroness of the Canary Islands) looks very colorful, it is celebrated on August 14 and 15. And, of course, the Day of the Canary Islands – May 30, which is happening as violently and brightly as possible! Do not forget about the New Year and Merry Christmas, which are also honored on the island.

Carnival season in Tenerife

Peaks in February. It is called “Mardi Gras”. The largest actions are held in the capital of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. The dry presentation was deliberately chosen, because any, even the most enthusiastic, replete with exclamation marks and other ahas, is still not able to convey even a small clip of the ongoing carnival riot. It’s just a must see! It is not for nothing that the Tenerife carnival is considered the second most beautiful in the world, right after the Brazilian one, which takes place in Rio de Janeiro. After the unbridled fun of the carnival, its end is marked by Great Lent.
