Playa del Ingles, Spain – May Weather

What’s the weather like in Playa del Ingles in May

Temperature

Summer arrives early in Playa del Ingles, with daytime temperatures in May rarely falling below the average of 20°C. You can expect highs of 22°C and a drop in temperature after the sun sets to just 17°C, so it’s never chilly here, not even overnight.

The second half of May is typically a degree warmer and record highs at this time of year have reached 34°C. Cloud cover is usually minimal, with skies becoming clearer as the month progresses. The lowest May temperature recorded here is 13°C, in the first few days of the month.

Rain and Wind

Rainfall takes yet another significant dive in this part of the Spanish island of Gran Canaria. Just 2mm of precipitation is expected here over just four days, and even then it’s usually only slight drizzle at the beginning of the month. May is generally the last wet month before the desert-like dry summer. The wind speeds start to pick up as the month progresses, but they are usually no more than a breeze.

Average Sunshine Hours and Sea Temperature

The number of sunshine hours stays constant at an enjoyable eleven hours a day. Meanwhile, the sea temperature warms up a degree to an average of 20°C, and is set to keep rising through the summer months.

While the weather is fine during May, it is one of the busiest times outside of summer, thanks to the week-long Maspalomas Gay Pride Festival. This brings an additional 60,000 visitors to the area, so those wanting a quieter holiday may wish to travel here at a different time.

Playa del Ingles Hotels in May

The four-star IFA Catarina Hotel is an ideal choice for central accommodation. Just a 15 minute walk from the beach and close to one of the main shopping centres, it caters to families with its kids clubs, mini discos, playground and children’s library. Adult guests are also catered for with a rooftop nudist solarium! There’s a tennis court and swimming pools onsite, and there are all inclusive options that are worth looking into.

For couples wanting adults-only accommodation, Judoca Colors is also well located, close to a quiet part of the beach and a few minutes’ walk from the shopping centres. With award-winning architecture, free Wi-Fi and an outdoor swimming pool, each contemporary-styled apartment has a terrace with sun loungers, and is painted in a particular colour. Choose from yellow, orange, red, green, sky blue or violet.

Playa del Ingles Beach for May

One of the big draws of the area is the famous Sahara-like sand dunes of the neighbouring Maspalomas beach. A walk south from the beach at Playa del Ingles will take you past protected natural spaces including the Maspalomas Natural Dune Reserve and the Maspalomas Palm Tree plantation.

Beyond here you will find the coastline expands to huge waves of sand dunes, which are continually changing their shape by the wind whipping off the ocean. Visitors with children should be aware that some of the areas here are nudist beaches. The beach has various places along its length where you can hire sun loungers and umbrellas or, for the ultimate desert safari experience, hire a quad bike or a camel ride over the dunes.

A walk north from Playa del Ingles beach will bring you to Playa de las Burras. This small beach is just 300m, but is perfect for families wishing to avoid the 18-30 crowds in the summer. However, it can get quite windy here and visitors should be wary of the sea’s strong currents.

Bars and Restaurants

For dinner, book a table at Taberna La Cana to enjoy a traditional Spanish meal. Choose from the a la carte menu, or pick a selection of specially prepared tapas dishes for a little bit of everything. The restaurant is located in the town centre and is also open for breakfast and lunch. There’s a huge wine list here to perfectly compliment the food for a lovely relaxed meal.

In a quiet corner of the Yumbo Shopping Centrum sits the colourful and warm atmosphere of Parrots Restaurant. It offers international food at affordable prices, with specialities including meat fondue, cheese fondue and raclette. Come here for a quiet meal on their large outdoor terrace, or enjoy free live entertainment with its all-singing drag shows at weekends.

Things to do in Playa del Ingles in May

If you’re ready for an adventure somewhere different, take a drive 25 miles inland to explore the awe-inspiring lunar landscape in the heart of Gran Canaria. Roque Nublo, meaning ‘Rock in the Clouds’, is the highlight: an 80m tall volcanic rock, with its peak sitting at 1,813m above sea level. This is one of the island’s most famous landmarks, formed by a volcanic eruption around 4.5 million years ago.

Surrounded by spectacular scenery of ravines, valleys, volcanic calderas and mountains, it is a fantastic area for hikers to explore. Protected as a natural monument since 1987, Roque Nublo is considered one of the island’s most symbolic places and an ancient and sacred place of worship. Being so high above sea level it can get cold and windy, so don’t forget to bring a coat.

Aqualand, just over three miles north-west of Playa del Ingles is an exhilarating water park for all the family, with a wide variety of water slides, dedicated children’s areas and a swimming with sea lions experience. The park boasts one of Europe’s biggest twin slides that will have you racing at high speed against your opponent, tackling turns and slopes along the way, before a heart-stopping finish that will make you want to ride it again and again.

8 Reasons to Escape to the Canary Islands this Winter

Named the “Fortunate Islands” and for good reason, the Canary Islands attract millions of UK holidaymakers every year, particularly during winter! ABTA recently revealed that over 5 million Brits are expected to jet off for Christmas this year, with the Canary Islands named one of the top destinations for those escaping the cold winter weather this year.

Find out why so many Brits are escaping to the Canary Islands this winter…

    1 – Christmas Cuisine

Gastronomy is the essence of Canarian culture and the best way to say ‘I love you’ in the Canary Islands is through food! It’s custom for households in the archipelago to contain grandmother’s recipe book, and this tradition has been combined with the revolution of new Canarian cuisine, with chefs who have brought these dishes into the 21st century!

Canary Islands cuisine is traditionally enjoyed with wine and cheese in the archipelago. There are three protected locations of origin for Canarian cheeses: Queso Majorero, Queso Palmero and Queso Flor de Guía, in Gran Canaria. Yet cheeses with unique textures and nuances can be found in all the islands.

Canarian wines are unique in the world. Cultivated in fertile volcanic soil, the islands have more than 80 varieties of grapevines, some of which only exist in this archipelago and have become endemic. Ten types of origin can be enjoyed, with five of them located in Tenerife and the rest from the islands of Gran Canaria, La Gomera, El Hierro, La Palma and Lanzarote.

    2 – Winter Sun

The temperatures in the Canary Islands are far from the extreme temperatures of mainland Spain. The sun is almost always shining in the Canary Islands making it a welcome winter escape for UK tourists. The average water temperature is between 18ºC and 22ºC and the archipelago’s 3,000 hours of sunshine per year ensure plenty of lovely warm days, with average daily temperatures between 18 and 24°C.

3 – The Art of Nature

The archipelago is itself a natural beauty that touches hearts. The internationally renowned artist, César Manrique, who hails from Lanzarote, turned this island into a work of art (true “land art”) with its viewpoints and its amazing architectural designs respecting its volcanic surroundings. Manrique brought the art of returning to nature to enjoy life to tourists and locals alike. The Jameos del Agua, a natural area in Haría (Lanzarote), is a perfect example of what nature has to offer those in the Canary Islands. Its magnificence is both striking and soothing.

In the Canary Islands, winter is synonymous with Carnival on all the islands. From the famous and original celebration of the Día de los Indianos in La Palma, a unique carnival in the world, to the international queen and drag queen selection galas and their impressive street parades full of light, colour, art and joy in Tenerife and Gran Canaria!

    4 – Winter Sports

The beaches of the Canary Islands never close in winter, nor its mountains, nor its volcanic landscapes, all of which are ideal for training for extreme and long-distance races. It’s for good reason that the islands host world races, including the Transvulcania in La Palma, the Transgrancanaria and the Canary Islands Winter Track and Field Championships.

Athletes from all corners of the world, including the UK, continue to train through the winter outdoors in the Canary Islands. Atheletes in multiple fields, including running, cycling, sailing, surfing, kitesurfing, windsurfing, snorkeling and diving choose the Canary Islands as their winter training base year after year.

    5 – Unique Hiking Trails

Breathing. That is the gift of nature getaways in the Canary Islands. The archipelago is home to an abundance of incredible hiking routes suitable for all levels. Cross the forests of the Tertiary Era in Garajonay, La Gomera, or discover the volcanic calderas boasting incredible sea views in Anaga Rural Park, in Tenerife.

The archipelago is part of the E7 Route, a path which starts in the Pyrenees and travels through the interior of Spain, Portugal right down to the Canary Islands, boasting breathtaking views of nature with the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. The Canary Islands are also part of the Camino de Santiago with the Camino de Santiago entre Volcanes, which has approved trails in Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Gomera and El Hierro.

    6 – Nature without end

It is very difficult to find a place in the world that gathers so many natural areas with national, European and international marine and terrestrial protection that can also be enjoyed in winter. World Cetacean Heritage, UNESCO has declared 5 biosphere reserves and 4 World Heritage Sites in the Canary Islands. In addition to these, the archipelago has 147 protected natural landscapes in different categories.

The Canary Islands is home to nature in its purest state also for international research in astrophysics and oceanography with the Institute of Astrophysics of the Canaries and the Institute of Oceanography of the Canaries. It has one of the clearest skies in the world to enjoy the stars and the quality of its waters for bathing is guaranteed.

7 – Fashion to express what you feel

Canarian fashion designs overflow with color and elegance at the Pasarela Gran Canaria Moda Cálida and Isla Bonita Moda, in La Palma. In fact, the outstanding designer Ágatha Ruiz de la Prada uses silk from El Paso, La Palma, in her creations.

But the islands also stand out for their designs of swimwear, hats, jewelry, shoes and all kinds of accessories. Not to mention the Winter Carnival, where even the most creative escapists are surprised by the color and texture of what the Canary Islanders of each island come up with for costumes.

8 – Enough sea for 1500 kilometers of beaches

The Atlantic Ocean in the Canary Islands washes 1500 kilometers of beaches and coves in the sun. And there are countless species of cetaceans! Sailing in the open sea also allows a unique view of the coastline created by the fire of the volcanoes’ life.

The Canary coasts have every beach imaginable: from the secluded and small virgin coves of La Palma, La Gomera or El Hierro to the urban or extensive and familiar beaches, with all the comforts, of Gran Canaria and Tenerife. Not to mention the paradisiacal white sand beaches of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote such as El Cofete, in Jandia, 14 kilometers long.

Spend your winter on the Canary Islands’ beaches | VOLARE MAGAZINE

It’s no wonder that the Canary Islands are known as “

Las Afortunadas”, meaning “the lucky ones”, as it has the best climate in the world. And not just because we say so; numerous studies have confirmed it too. There are so many reasons for coming to the Canary Islands in the winter. If it’s your dream to spend the winter on the beach or in 24°C, this post is for you!

Our names are Guacimara and Pedro, and we’re both from Tenerife. Through our Tenerifelicidad project, we’ve embarked on an around-the-world trip in a campervan, with no end date planned and are just starting with a six-month tour of the Canary Islands.

The islands perfectly located, where the trade winds play a key role in the enviable temperatures enjoyed all year round.   The trade wind inversion, which prevents cloud formation, means that it hardly ever rains in the summer and it only rains around 3 days a month on average during the winter months

This natural phenomenon means comfortable temperatures all year round. This is combined with sun-drenched days, the smell of the sea, infinite natural resources, and the diversity of landscapes, which makes the islands a dream destination at any time of year, but especially in winter.

In fact, they are also known as “the islands of eternal spring”. There are very few places in the world where you can enjoy an average temperature of between 20 and 22°C in winter, with almost no chance of rain.

These conditions allow for a special kind of tourism, where you can enjoy the outdoors in the unique and wild environment of a volcanic landscape.

    Travelling light

One of the main drawbacks of travelling in winter is the amount of luggage involved, but in the Canary Islands you can travel light, as you won’t need a scarf or winter coat.

So, is it never cold in the Canary Islands? Well, of course it is. Despite the extremely mild climate, some of the islands are very high, with significant differences in altitude, such as Tenerife, which also has the highest peak in the whole of Spain. This means that within just over half an hour you can go from wearing a swimsuit on the beach to a snow-capped landscape in Teide National Park

Microclimates are a defining characteristic of the islands, so even though you can travel light in the winter, it’s never a bad idea to pop a coat in your backpack, especially if you’re planning on exploring the mountains.

A paradise for outdoor sport lovers

Thanks to the favourable climate, the Canary Islands are the perfect place for enjoying all kinds of outdoor sports, all year round: surfing, windsurfing, snorkelling, driving, trekking, cycling and so on.

If you love getting close to nature, this is the place for you. With the islands being volcanic, take advantage of the stunning places, landscapes, and environments to have an unforgettable experience pursuing your favourite outdoor sport in perfect temperatures.

Recharge your batteries with some good vibes

A vacation or short stay in the Canary Islands in the winter gives you a chance to unwind.

Part of the islands’ nature has been forged by the warmth of the ground. And if there’s one thing that defines us, it’s that here we live differently, at a slower pace. You’ll find this very easy to get used to!

A winter like no other, in the Canary Islands:

It’s time for some surfing in Fuerteventura

If you love surfing, you won’t need to wait until summer to enjoy the magic of catching a wave. In Fuerteventura, wintertime is surfing time!

    Diving in El Hierro

The “meridian island” boasts one of the best seabeds in the world. A winter submerged in its waters is simply unforgettable.

Seeing snow-capped Mount Teide from the beach in Tenerife

This is one of winter’s most beautiful images, as it often snows on Mount Teide. You can even see Spain’s highest peak, situated in the centre of Tenerife, from some of the island’s beaches!

Seeing the world’s third largest active volcano covered in snow, from the beach in 24°C, is a truly unique experience.

From lava to the turquoise waters of Lanzarote’s beaches

Lanzarote is one of the lower islands, with fewer changes in temperature throughout the year. Kick back and relax, enjoying the contrast between its fiery, volcanic landscapes, and its idyllic beaches with their turquoise waters and white sands, for some wintertime magic.

    Playa Papagayo, Lanzarote

    La Palma, a Biosphere Reserve

This is one of the islands with the greatest difference in altitude in the world; this means that, whilst lacking Lanzarote’s idyllic, peaceful beaches (the beaches are much wilder), it does feature some fascinating places, such as El Roque de los Muchachos (“the Rock of the Boys”). It also boasts breathtaking natural phenomena, such as the sea of clouds, formed by the combination of the trade winds and the altitude of the island.

    Roque de los Muchachos

La Gomera, wild beaches and fairytale forests

The wild beaches, unspoiled by mass tourism, are one of the gems of La Gomera, which along with its laurel forests, looking as if they’ve stepped straight out of a fairytale, will treat you to a truly magical winter.

Gran Canaria, the island of contrasts

Gran Canaria has a little something from each of the islands: idyllic white sandy beaches, volcanic landscapes, altitude, desert and dunes, forests, wild beaches, and charming villages.

Each of the Canary Islands is unique and different from the rest. But if you can’t decide on one, then Gran Canaria has a bit of the magic of all the others.

There are so many reasons to visit, but as the song by Bizarrap and Quevedo goes, don’t think twice this winter, and “come to the Canary Islands, with no luggage or return ticket…”.

    Weather in the Azores WithPortugal

The Azores are located in the temperate zone of the Northern Hemisphere. Throughout the year, the climate in the Azores can be described as temperate, with the most frequent precipitation between October and March.

Clouds and rains are possible at any time of the year. Although in summer the sun pampers the locals more.

    Average temperature

It can get cold in the Azores at any moment, regardless of the time of year, so it’s best to always carry a sweater or jacket with you. nine0003

However, the average air temperature throughout the year does not change much, showing values that fluctuate between 12ºC and 25ºC.

All articles about the Azores can be found here

The temperature of sea water is also fairly constant due to the influence of the Gulf Stream: its average temperatures are 16ºC in winter and 20.5ºC in summer (but it can reach 24ºC – 25ºC).

As a rule, constant humidity makes summer temperatures feel warmer, while winter temperatures can feel colder due to strong winds. nine0003

If you are going to visit the Azores, be prepared for the unpredictability of the local climate: you can get a tan in the winter and wear a jacket in the summer on the beach (it gets chilly after sunset).

    Azores High

The Azores High is a subtropical high pressure zone that is always a few hundred kilometers north or south of the archipelago.

Thanks to this anticyclone, the climate on the islands differs from the weather in all of Portugal, because of it the Azores are constantly covered with flowers. nine0003

Weather in the Azores by months:

    January in the Azores

In January, the average temperature is +6°C (the average maximum temperature is +10°C, and the average minimum temperature is +3°C). The weather is quite cold (it feels cooler than the thermometer), it is better to wear several layers of warm clothes.

At this time of the year there is a very high chance of rain, so if you are going to the Azores in January, you risk getting a little wet.

This is not the best month to visit the Azores.

    Continued below…

    February in the Azores

In February, the average temperature will be around +8°C (average maximum +12°C and average minimum +3°C).

The weather is acceptable everywhere, but not as great as it can be 🙂 The sun does not come out so often, but the rains are regular.

But this can also be a plus: if you are interested in hiking, and not relaxing by the pool, maybe February in the Azores is for you? There will definitely be a lot less tourists this month. nine0003

    March in the Azores

In March, the average temperature is +10°C (average maximum +14°C and average minimum +6°C).

The weather this month is very similar to the previous one, slightly warmer, but not ideal. There are not many sunny days and every day there is a very high chance of rain.

    April in the Azores

In April, everything looks a little different. The average monthly temperature is +12°C, the average maximum temperature is +17°C and the average minimum temperature is +7°C. nine0003

Many consider these two months (April and May) to be the most comfortable for tourism – not very cold and not very hot. You can afford to enjoy not only hiking or visiting museums, but you can even get to relax by the hotel pool.

    May in the Azores

The average temperature of the month is +15°C, the average maximum temperature is +20°C and the average minimum temperature is +10°C. For many, May is almost summer. But it’s better to still carry a jacket or sweater with you in case it gets chilly. nine0003

From May 1, the famous “Rope” bullfights on the island of Terceira begin to take place (you can visit the performance until October 15).

    June in the Azores

In June, the average temperature is already +26°C, but sometimes it rains.

This month the weather in the Azores is just wonderful. By the way, local religious holidays of Santo António, Sau Pedro and Sau João are held from June 23 to 29. At this time, you can see all the richness of local folklore, the simplicity of the Azores, and all the juiciest of the local color. nine0003

July and August in the Azores

In July and August the average temperature is +29°C and almost no rain.

If you have a free moment between the endless possibilities of great weather tours, try the Walk & Talk Arts Festival.

It takes place every year in July. There you can see the intersection of art, dance, performance, theater, architecture, design, film and music.

In August, Santa Maria Island hosts the annual Mare de Agosto music festival. nine0003

    September in the Azores

In September, the average temperature is already +19°C, and again there are precipitations, but not so much yet.

In September, in the village of Madalena on the island of Pico, you can see the Harvest Festival with the theme of growing grapes.

    October in the Azores

In October, the average temperature drops to +15°C and, according to statistics, it rains 9 out of 31 days.

At this time of the year, it is recommended to always have warm, waterproof shoes and a jacket with you. nine0003

Our excursions in the Azores can be viewed here

    November in the Azores

It rains very often this month. The average temperature is +10°C (ranging from +6°C to +13°C) and it always feels much colder.

    December in the Azores

In December, the average temperature is +7°C (the average minimum is +3°C, and the average maximum is +10°C) and of course frequent rains.

Where is hot in May? Holiday destinations for May sun

Don’t fancy gambling on beer-garden weather this May bank holiday? Us neither. Which is why we’ve desperately been searching for places that are hot in May, so we can guarantee a bit of spring sunshine (and a summer base tan). If you’re also hoping for some early sun this year, here are 8 destinations that should be hot this May. You’re welcome.

Crete, Greece (temperature highs of 24°C)

A modest four hour plane journey from London, Crete is the perfect quick fix for all your vacation needs. With the sun shining for (on average) 10 hours a day, there’s time to do it all: from the Palace of Knossos, an ancient archaeological site steeped in Greek history, to the Samaria Gorge, one of Europe’s longest (and most stunning) canyons. Of course, if you prefer to grab a floppy hat and mooch down to the beach, there’s plenty of hidden gems to choose from. Have a look at our guide of what to do, where to stay and the best places to eat there.

Fes el-Bali, Morocco (temperature highs of 26°C)

Regarded as Morocco’s ‘Spiritual Capital’, Fes el-Bali is a world heritage site famed for its legendary Medina with over 9000 meandering passageways to explore. You’ll be surprised at how quickly you learn to navigate the intricate web of alleyways. Each one reveals something impossibly beautiful: whether it’s fresh batches of pancakes slathered in beetroot jam (surprisingly delicious, trust) or ancient walls strewn with awe-inspiring artwork/ market stalls/craftwork. As the largest urban car-free area in the world, you’re going to need your comfy shoes for this one. For more information on Fez, check out our guide of what to do, where to stay and the best places to eat.

Cannes, France (temperature highs of 20°C)

With the legendary Cannes Film Festival taking place in May, there’s never been a better time to channel your inner diva (oversized sunnies and all). If you don’t manage to walk the red carpet yourself, there’s still plenty of glamour to soak up: from swanky rooftop bars to screenings of classic Cannes films on the beach. If Cannes’ drama sounds a bit much, why not head down to Agay? A 50-minute coastal drive from Cannes is all it takes to visit this sleepy yet spirited harbouring town. And while 20 degrees might not scream bikini, it’s definitely shorts and T-shirt weather – and who could argue with that?

    manjikGetty Images

Havana, Cuba (temperature highs of 31°C)

Find out why half of Camila Cabeyo’s heart is in Havana (ooh na na) by booking a salacious escape to the north coast of Cuba. Sit back in a beautifully restored, vintage sports car as you tour the palm tree-laden landscape in search of the finest cuban rum. Be sure to leave time for snacking along the way as Havana is legendary for street food. We’re talking Elote (grilled corn on the cob with a variety of delish toppings), fried plantain, paella, and of course, churros. Yum.

    xavierarnauGetty Images

Palermo, Italy (temperature highs of 22°C)

The capital of Sicily, Palermo is a deliciously forbidden slice of Southern Italy. While the temperatures aren’t blistering, they’re still perfect for wandering along the Mercato di Ballarò without breaking too much of a sweat. Embrace the Sicilian way of life by dining alfresco, sampling Italian specialities, such as Caponata, and mingling with sociable locals who are sure to provide you with enough expert recommendations to sustain you for the rest of your trip. For more information on Sicily, check out our guide of what to do, where to stay and the best places to eat.

Barbados, The Caribbean (temperature highs of 31°C)

Known simply as ‘paradise’, there’s not much more you can add about this stunning (and notoriously hot) Caribbean island – other than it’s a great holiday destination. Whether you want to perfect your tan on the white sands of the (aptly named) Paradise Beach or go humpback whale spotting at Animal Flower Cave, Barbados has got you covered. As it’s the last month of Barbados’ dry season, May is the perfect time to discover what all the fuss is about.

    Paxos

    • Temperature: 23º
    • Sunshine: 9 hours
    • Rainy days: 8
    • Flight Time: 3 hours (further travel required)

First off is the Greek island of Paxos, the smallest of the Ionian islands. It’s so small in fact (just 10km by 4km!) that it doesn’t have an airport and travellers must instead fly to Corfu and get a ferry or hydrofoil to Paxos. Don’t let this little extra leg put you off though, Paxos is as picturesque as it is tranquil and it’s well worth going the extra mile to get there.

A well-kept secret among sailors, this tiny island has an abundance of secluded beaches whilst the charming towns of Gaios (where you’ll find the port), Lakka and Longos boast plenty of traditional tavernas offering everything from seafood to Greek mezze.

    Menorca

    • Temperature: 22º
    • Sunshine: 9 hours
    • Rainy days: 4
    • Flight Time: 2 hours 20 mins

Known for being one of the most relaxed of the Balearic Islands, Menorca boasts many sandy beaches and bays perfect for families and couples alike. Fortunately, Menorca is mild enough in May that you can hike (or drive) up Mount Toro — which is more of a hill than a mountain — to see the some of the best views that the island has to offer.

Up here you’ll also find the stunning catholic church of Santuari de la Mare de Déu del Toro (Sanctuary of Our Lady of the Bull). Whilst active travellers will enjoy a walk along one of S’Albufera Nature Reserve’s many hiking trails, there are plenty of beautiful beaches for the sunseekers that simply want to relax.

    Halkidiki

    • Temperature: 23º
    • Sunshine: 11 hours
    • Rainy days: 4
    • Flight Time: 3 hours 30 mins

In mainland Greece, you’ll find Halkidiki, home to a large peninsula that resembles a hand with three fingers, although Greeks often refer to these as ‘legs’. This historic region has plenty to offer its visitors, whether you’re looking for culture or somewhere to simply unwind.

Halkidiki is not only the birthplace of Aristotle but also home to the ancient city of Olynthus, known for its well-preserved mosaic floors. Meanwhile, Kassandra (the most westerly peninsula) has a more modern and touristy feel with many resorts, bars and nightclubs.

    St Vincent & The Grenadines

    • Temperature: 31º
    • Sunshine: 9 hours
    • Rainy days: 11
    • Flight Time: 12 hours

Looking further afield to the Caribbean, the stunning island nation of St Vincent & The Grenadines is a paradise that remains unspoilt by mass tourism, making it the perfect getaway for anyone looking for a relaxing holiday. The main island of St. Vincent is blessed with some of the best beaches in the region, without the crowds that you might find at better-known Caribbean destinations.

Here you can go whale-watching and explore the La Soufrière National Park, home to a volcano, which stands 1,234 meters above sea level, making it the highest peak in the country.

    Sardinia

    • Temperature: 22º
    • Sunshine: 9 hours
    • Rainy days: 9
    • Flight Time: 2 hours 30 mins

With almost 2,000km of coastline and a rugged inner-landscape marked with hiking trails, the Italian island of Sardinia makes for a wonderful May holiday destination for both beach-lovers and intrepid explorers.

Dotted all around this island you’ll find the ruins of more than 7,000 nuraghe, ancient structures that are believed to have been built in the Bronze Age — the oldest of which (Su Nuraxi in Barumini) dates back to 1500 B.C. If you’re looking for culture and heritage you might also like to visit the Temple of Antas or the National Archaeology Museum in Cagliari.

With so much to offer, we’d suggest hiring a car and exploring as much of the island as possible. There are also many golden-sandy beaches to visit as well, so be sure to save some time for sunbathing.

    Santorini

    • Temperature: 23º
    • Sunshine: 12 hours
    • Rainy days: 3
    • Flight Time: 4 hours

Of all the hot destinations in May, the Greek island of Santorini is not one to miss. This volcanic island has been shaped by a devastating eruption that took place more than 3,000 years ago, which left in its wake an underwater caldera (crater) which you can still see from the island’s many cliffs.

Now, however, Santorini is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, known for its luxurious hotels and whitewashed villages. To witness one of the best sunsets on the planet, head to Oia and for unusual volcanic grey-sand beaches, head to Kamari.

Between Barcelona and the south of France lies Costa Brava. This stunning strip of Catalonian coastline stretches for 60km and has something for every kind of traveller — whether you’re visiting with children or going on a strictly grown-ups getaway.

Platja D’Aro and Santa Susanna make for popular family resorts, whilst Lloret de Mar has a vibrant nightlife for anyone looking to let their hair down. If however, you’re seeking some peace and quiet, you might opt to stay in the more relaxed parts of the coast such as Pineda de Mar or Malgrat de Mar.

Although getting there is quite a journey, the experiences that these islands have to offer will make for the holiday of a lifetime — not to mention their sheer beauty.

As well as gorgeous beaches and an abundance of marine life, Samoa’s internal landscape is well worth exploring. With so much to see and do, this destination is perfect for anyone who is looking to do more than simply lay on the beach.

In the near directions, water and air for a beach holiday in the month of May do not yet have time to warm up to the desired temperatures.
In the countries of the Mediterranean coast, the weather will allow you to get a good tan, enjoy plenty of warmth, take a break from the long Russian winter under the warm sun, you can swim, but without much pleasure. Look out for hotels with heated pools. nine0003

Where is the warmest water in the Mediterranean in May

The Mediterranean begins to warm up from its eastern part. The hot influence of Asia and Africa, and the absence of cold sea currents in this region of the Mediterranean, have an effect.

The warmest water in May is on the southern coast of Turkey, closer to the Antalya region, and off the coast of Cyprus.

But in the western part of the Mediterranean Sea, cold currents coming from the Atlantic Ocean dominate, so the temperature off the coast of Spain, Italy, Malta reaches only 17-18 degrees. The water is especially cold in northern Spain off the Costa Brava, so the month of May cannot be recommended for those who want to swim with pleasure. nine0291
The Black Sea in May is also not very comfortable for swimming.

Winter in Costa del Sol: Is it worth visiting?

Costa del Sol in southern Spain is famous for its sunkissed beaches, vibrant beach bars, cheap cocktails, pumping beach clubs, and luxury yachts. It all sounds like summer right?

But what about the winter in Costa del Sol? What can you expect from the coldest months on the sun coast in Spain?

With more than 320 days of sun a year and an average winter temperature of 17 degrees Celsius, there are a lot of things to do in Costa del Sol in winter.

Whether you want to work your tan on the beach, go on a road trip to explore the hidden gems of Andalucia, or hit the hiking trails, there is something to do for everyone.

Especially Costa del Sol in December and January is excitingly full of Christmas lighting and parades worth seeing. Read on to find out exactly what to expect from the Costa del Sol winter holidays and the best things to do.

Costa del Sol winter temperatures

Costa del Sol winter temperatures can easily rise above 20 degrees celsius in the months of December, January, and February. But not every day. The average daytime temperature is around 17 degrees celsius and at night it can go down to 8-10 degrees celsius.

On a cloudy and windy day, it can feel colder, and on a sunny day without wind, it can get extremely hot. Thus some days are perfect for soaking in that Vitamin D on the beach while other days are so much better to wrap up in that coat.

Besides the temperatures, I want to mention the humidity in Costa del Sol which is very high in winter. Costa del Sol might look warm at night at 13 degrees celsius, but with extremely high humidity it feels close to zero.

Generally, Costa del Sol has lovely weather in the winter, but you must be prepared for the bad days – because it seems like no one prepares you for that and I see tourists and new expats coming down here every year just as surprised when it rains or feels cold.

TOP ACTIVITIES ON COSTA DEL SOL

What to do in Costa del Sol on rainy days

Usually, from the end of November to the beginning of December, Costa del Sol sees horrendous torrential rain, but it can come later in the winter too.

When it rains at its worst, there is no way you can go outside without being soaked, roads are flooded, and the beaches get destroyed. Strong wind and heavy rain make it the most unpleasant time in Costa del Sol and you need a plan B.

Not many people talk about this when “selling in” Andalucia in winter, but I prefer that you’re ready for the worst-case scenario (because we get a few weeks of it every single year!)

If you can avoid traveling to Costa del Sol when it rains it is great, if not, know that it doesn’t always rain that badly. We do also get light rain that you can go sightseeing in with an umbrella or escape a shower in a bar while you wait for it to go over.

So what do you do if you come across 2 weeks of torrential rain? Your best bet is to check the weather forecast on the rest of the peninsula to see if you can escape it somewhere. That said, sometimes it rains like heck all over Spain and Portugal combined.

If that’s the case, here are some of the things you can do in Costa del Sol inside.

  • Escape Room in Malaga – A fun activity for the whole family is to explore the escape room in Malaga.
  • Shopping at Miramar Shopping Center – Miramar in Mijas is the biggest shopping mall on Costa del Sol where you can find about anything including cafés, restaurants, and cinema.
  • See a movie in English at Plaza Mayor – Plaza Mayor is another shopping mall outside Malaga where they usually show movies in English.
  • Sleep in at the hotel and order room service – Why not spend a day lazying at the hotel? If you’re on holiday I guess you need to charge your batteries.
  • Visit Cueva de Nerja – Being underground can be a good way to spend a rainy day, so why not plan your visit to Cueva de Nerja when it rains?
  • Black Box Theater in Marabella – See a show a the Black Box Theater in Marabella to escape the rain.
  • Explore the Museums in Malaga – Malaga is jam-packed with museums, so why not see them all during rainy days?

What to wear in Costa del Sol in winter

As you might have understood already, the winter weather in Costa del sol Spain varies a lot and you can easily walk around in shorts and a t-shirt during the daytime and wrap yourself in a coat, beanie, scarf, and mittens once the night falls.

Temperatures shift dramatically from day to day and from the sun to shade. So the best thing you can do is to bring layers of clothes to avoid getting cold.

I typically often wear shorts and bring long pants in my backpack so I can get changed later in the day if necessary.

I’m originally from Norway, and I have never used my winter clothes in Costa del Sol. However, an autumn or spring jacket is perfect for the Costa del Sol winter. I still have my winter coat in case I travel to colder destinations like Granada in winter or go skiing in Sierra Nevada.

Best things to do in winter in Costa del Sol

Visit the white villages

Winter in Costa del Sol is the perfect time of the year to visit the whitewashed villages along the coast. Among the most beautiful white villages in Costa del Sol, you find the hilltop villages of Casares, Gaucín, Ojén, and Istán.

Sitting in picturesque settings surrounded by nature, they are all just a short drive from the coast and incredibly beautiful. It’s so pleasant to walk around these villages on a sunny winter day as it’s not too hot, yet warm enough to enjoy a meal at an outside table.

Besides these, which are lesser-known, you have the most popular white villages in Andalucia overlooking Costa del Sol; Mijas Pueblo and Frigiliana. Decorated with pot plants on white walls closing up on narrow, cobbled streets, they are among the most picturesque in the country.

Casares village

See the Christmas light show in Malaga

One of the most hyped things to do in winter in Costa del Sol is to see the Christmas light show in Calle Larios in Malaga.

Every December you can witness an incredible lightshow with Christmas music in the main shopping street. The lights are different every year and it’s one of the most crowded happenings in Costa del Sol in winter.

Malaga in winter is marvellous and after the lightshow, you can walk around the Christmas markets and enjoy the Christmas decorations throughout the city.

Though the temperature in Costa del Sol in December is mild, it doesn’t mean that there’s no Christmas spirit!

OTHER TOP-RATED THINGS TO DO IN MALAGA

Hike El Caminito del Rey

The winter in Costa del Sol is perfect to walk the world-famous Caminito del Rey. Pinned 100 meters high on the Gaitanes Gorge, the walkway is not for the faint-hearted.

That said, it’s one of the most astounding walks in Andalucia and a must-visit for anyone that can deal with the height.

The path was rebuilt in 2015 after being one of the deadliest hikes in the world. They have kept the old path below the new one, so you can see exactly how scary it must have been to throw yourself out there. Though it was illegal, there was always some daredevils that took the challenge.

Today, it’s a safe walk, you get a safety brief before the hike, a helmet, and you’ll encounter security guards along the trail.

To hike the Caminito del Rey you must buy a ticket in advance, and they sell out quickly, so don’t wait!

Pre-book your tickets here.

See the 3 Kings Parade

One of the top attractions in winter in Costa del Sol is the 3 Kings Parade (Cabalgata de Reyes) which takes place on the evening of the 5th of January and the morning of the 6th of January celebrating the Three Kings bringing gifts to the baby Jesus.

Kings Day on the 6th of January is the most important Christmas celebration in Spain and as with every big religious celebration, they take it seriously with parades, candy, and music.

The unique parade includes several floats and is mainly targeted at kids with thousands of kilos of candy being thrown at the crowds.

If you are looking for an experience of a lifetime, this is it!

Hike to La Concha

The winter weather in Costa del Sol is perfect for hiking in the mountains overlooking the coast. In summer, it gets too hot to enjoy these mountains.

One of my favorite hikes on Costa del Sol is the La Concha hike, taking you through olive groves and pine forests up a strenuous hill before it opens up to sweeping coastal views of Marbella.

The rest of the hike goes along the ridge, including a couple of series of chains to hold on to (the last one being rather sketchy in my humble vertigo opinion,) before you reach the tip of La Concha where you have the entire Costa del Sol at your feet.

Relax with your lunch staring over to Africa before returning the same way. You can also include Cruz de Juanar on the way back down for more spectacular views.

La Concha ridge

Visit Cueva de Nerja

The Cueva de Nerja is among the most visited attractions in Spain and a visit is one of the best things to do in Costa del Sol. Winter is no exception.

Formed through millions of years, the limestone caves have formed spectacular halls and enormous stalactites and stalagmites. Only parts of the 5-kilometer-long cave system are open to the public.

Cueva de Nerja claims to have the largest stalagmite in the world with 32 meters of altitude and 13 meters by 7 meters wide at the bottom.

Among the protected finds are several rock paintings dating back over 40.000 years.

You can combine Nerja Caves with a visit to Nerja and the picturesque Frigiliana village nearby. Check availability for a guided tour here.

Go dolphin watching

Situated on the beautiful coast, there is no reason not to go dolphin watching in the Mediterranean while on Costa del Sol. There are boat trips going out from the main towns and cities along the coast like Fuengirola, Malaga, and Marbella.

Even though you go in the winter, make sure you slab on enough sunscreen on any sunny day on the sea.

Party hard at the carnival of Malaga

Costa del Sol in February is a top choice for party lovers as the carnival in Malaga takes off bringing life to the streets. Make sure you bring your best costume and join the locals in dancing and drinking in Malaga’s old town.

There are also a whole lot of “China shops” where you can buy costumes, but don’t leave it to the last minute as they usually get raided the last few days before the carnival.

The history of Malaga’s carnival goes 500 years back. It started when the choir boys in Malaga Cathedral were authorized to lead the ceremonies on St. Nicholas Day and the day of Holy Innocents. One of the boys was dressed as a bishop and the rest of the choir boys served as the carnival court.

Thousands of locals in costumes watched the choir boys perform religious ceremonies, dance, and sing. The festivities were suspended, but gained popularity again in the 18th and 19th centuries until the civil war put a stop on all festivities in the country (only the Carnival in Cadiz kept being celebrated against Franco’s orders.)

It was first in 1982 that the carnival in Malaga resumed and the party took its way into the streets again where you now can join singing and dancing as if there’s no tomorrow! Just like the Andalusians do best.

Day trip to Gibraltar

Related: Day trip to Gibraltar from Malaga

Another great thing to do in Costa del Sol in the winter is to go on a day trip to Gibraltar. The tiny British territory offers a whole lot of exciting attractions and is famous for being the only place in mainland Europe with wild monkeys.

Among the best things to do in Gibraltar is to see the views from the Rock of Gibraltar, step into the underground Saint Michael’s Caves, and visit the Moorish Castle.

You can also take the historical cable car up to the Rock of Gibraltar instead of walking.

If you prefer to go on an organized tour that can pick you up in Costa del Sol and take you to Gibraltar and back, there are great options. Check out availability here for pick-up at your location.

The Rock of Gibraltar

Day trip to Morocco

One of the best things to do in winter in Costa del Sol is to take a day trip to Morocco. Believe it or not, but the intriguing north African country is only an hour’s ferry ride from Spain and a short drive from any location on Costa del Sol.

Imagine walking back in time in narrow streets where ancient handicrafts are still being made by hand, colorful spice shops, and small alleyways hide wondrous tea houses with rooftops overlooking the entire city and even see across the Strait of Gibraltar to Spain.

You can travel independently from Algeciras or Tarifa or book a tour that picks you up directly from Costa del Sol’s towns near Malaga.

Don’t forget your passport!

Reflections on visiting during the Costa del Sol winter season

As you can see, there are a lot of fun things to do in Costa del Sol in the winter. With mostly great weather, you can mostly be outside, yet there are cool things to do inside in case you’re unlucky and hit the “ugly” weeks of the year.

There isn’t for no reason that so many people choose to retire in Costa del Sol while others make it their permanent home with the main reason: the weather.

If you’re looking for a mild and sunny winter vacay, Costa del Sol is definitely a good location. No matter if you love being out in nature or you prefer sipping a cold beer in the sun to the sound of waves, Costa del Sol has something for you.

Happy travels!

Costa Del Sol Temperatures and some practical advice

We have lived here for over 13 years now and can tell you that the weather has changed incredibly over the years.  2016, for example, has been one of the strangest years.  We had a very dry winter and desperately needed some rain or we knew there would be trouble in the summer months.

January and February were quite mild.  March there were days where it was so hot it felt like summer.  Easter has always been a dodgy month where it can rain a lot causing flooding but this year it was early in March and there were a couple of nice days followed by some rain.  Then we had a really cold spell towards the end of April where some people were backlighting their fires.  Then this was followed by the strangest weather for over a week.  It was literally 4 seasons in an hour for over 7 days, wind, sun, rain, cloud.  Then finally Mid – Late May the temperature just shot up and all of a sudden boiling hot and summer arrived.

January to February

A lot of warm days, and when the sun is out you can definitely walk around in a T-shirt but when you step into the shade you feel the cold. You can get some cold winds and when it rains it pours and can get chilly. Pack jackets, jumpers and coats for the evening and some days. Most apartments have marble or stone tiled floors which get chilly so bring slippers.  This is the time of year when you see the Spanish in fur coats and the English in vests and shorts!

March to April

In the eight years, we have lived here it’s been wet at the end of March and beginning of April … and I mean wet, as this seems to be the rainy season! So bring something waterproof or an umbrella just in case.  If it’s not raining it can get quite warm, but you will certainly need cardigans or jackets for the evenings.

May

Warm but not too hot! You can usually guarantee some sunbathing but the evenings can be a bit chilly so bring a jacket or wrap. You can still get some rain during this month.

June, July & August

HOT!!! so bring things to keep you cool. July and August are the hottest months on the Costa Del Sol with temperatures being known to reach 45°C, but this is rare.  Normal temperatures are in the high 30’s so bring lots of cool, loose clothing and a hat to protect you in the sun.

September

A lovely month, hot at the beginning and cooling down at the end. The school holidays are over the tourist season quietens down a bit. You shouldn’t need a jacket or coat but bring one just in case if you are coming at the end of September.

Widget not in any sidebars

October

A bit like April as this is the month when the Costa Del Sol weather changes. The cooler weather comes along with the rain. October is the time that unheated swimming pools stop being used, but you should still get some sunbathing weather – but the days are shorter.

November & December

When its sunny it’s warm – and when there’s no sun it’s chilly. Weather is similar to January & February. Make sure you bring the slippers for those cold floors. A few years ago it was 21°C on Christmas Day and there were people on the beach!

The year-round temperate climate on the Costa del Sol means that planning outdoor activities
is not restricted to the “odd” nice day in the winter. We have therefore provided information on a selection of things to do including articles on all Costa Del Sol Markets, a selection of Costa Del Sol Theme Parks and Plaza Mayor – a large entertainment complex adjacent to Malaga Airport

Description of route

Rock-item-this is the road-this agricultural purpose, which was used to access cultivated areas on slopes and plateaus. Basically, grain crops were grown here, as evidenced by the numerous terraces on the slope, residential buildings and a threshing floor. The road largely retains paved sections, which are especially noticeable when crossing the Barranco del Rey Gorge. It is also worth noting that Roque, together with the Anaga and Teno mountain ranges, represent the three main points where the formation of the island of Tenerife began several million years ago. The trail starts in Arona, at Cristo de la Salud square. From there we will head to the Vento area, which can be reached by the TF-511 road, about 200 to kilometer 3, going up the Camino del Viento trail on the left. The route continues along a hard-packed dirt road that turns for about 30 meters into a narrow path that crosses the Barranco de las Arenas and the Barranco de El Ancón. This way we will reach the gorge of Barranco del Rey, with steep slopes and very deep, located on the border of the regions of Arona and Adeje. Right at the entrance to this gorge, the trail descends, winding along a road that has partially retained its original paved surface. After crossing the Barranco del Rey Gorge, the pavement disappears and we have magnificent panoramic views of the coast of Granadilla, San Miguel and Arona. Soon the paved road surface reappears and the road becomes wider, climbing to the top among stone fences and terraces. Here the pavement and terraces begin to disappear, and the path narrows and goes up to the very top (Roque del Conde) with a flat orography like a plateau. nine0077

The municipality of Granadilla de Abona is located in the southern part of the island of Tenerife. Its territory, replete with various landscapes, long ago belonged to the Guanches (indigenous natives of the Canary Islands), occupies the slopes of Mount Guajara (2718 m high), descending to the Atlantic Ocean. Local lands were seriously damaged by volcanic eruptions, which left indelible marks in the relief of Granadilla de Abona in the form of towering towers of solidified lava.

Mount Guajara is one of the highest volcanoes ever active in Tenerife. The so-called “Lunar landscape” was created as a result of devastating volcanic eruptions. nine0077

The imposing cone of Mount Montana Roja, also called the Red Volcano, rises on the coast.

[notification type=”alert-success” close=”false” ]At its foot lies La Mareta Lagoon, the last natural sandy beach in the province. Colonies of sea plover and other birds live here – more than a hundred species that flew here from Africa.[/notification]

The territory of the district of Granadilla de Abona was once a place of refuge for the Guanches. The local population from different districts took refuge here, fleeing from the Spanish conquistador invaders. The main center of resistance to the colonialists was located here, therefore it is in this district of Tenerife that numerous archaeological monuments of the Guanche culture are located. You can look at them in places such as: Chiñama, and in La Jaquita and Tagoror del Rey, traces of the Aboriginal heritage have been preserved in the form of cave burials. nine0077

The administrative center of Granadilla de Abona is the city of the same name with winding streets, where the traditions of the past are harmoniously combined with the modernity of the present.

Among the types of economic activity in the district, agriculture is developed: growing grapes for Canary wine, vegetables, tomatoes and flowers, as well as cereal production. In recent years, due to the influx of tourists, tourism and, accordingly, construction have been greatly developed. The largest Canarian airport, Reina Sofía, is located on the territory of the region, which also contributes to the expansion of the tourist flow. And in the town of El Médano, there is the longest beach, which has long been chosen by surfers, windsurfers and kitesurfers from all over the world. nine0077

Another center of tourism is the coastal town of Los Abrigos. This is a favorite place not only for tourists, but also for fishermen who sell their catch. There are many cozy restaurants serving fresh sea fish.

Natural monuments

Lunar landscape over Vilaflor is a natural area formed by influxes of solidified volcanic lava, faceted over a long time by the wind. Walking route to the lunar landscape.

La Forrest Corona Natural Park. This is the largest reserve in the Canary Islands, consisting of huge cliffs and deep valleys stretching from north to south, covered with pine forests, thickets of heather and laurel. The park occupies most of the caldera (the area around the volcano) around Mount Teide, the main volcano of Tenerife, called Caldera de Las Cañadas and is located at an altitude of 300 to 2175 meters above sea level. nine0077

Canarian pines. These ancient giant trees grow up to 2000 meters above sea level and are highly valued for their drought resistance, as they can even grow on hardened volcanic lava. Volcanic pipes deserve special mention, in which colonies of several species of bats live.

Los Derriscaderas. This is a natural monument of wind-carved rocks that form a network of rocky ravines. This fantastic landscape is the result of many years of intense volcanic activity in the south of Tenerife.

About 200 of these flightless birds live on an island with a total area of 300 m2 called Planet of the Penguins. Thanks to the care of the employees, the penguins feel great. nine0005

Another place worthy of your attention in Loro Park is the oceanarium with a large transparent 18-meter tunnel. There are many different types of fish, there are sharks.

Other attractions include enclosures with crocodiles, large gorillas, small funny monkeys Titis, a small pond in which Koy fish swim. The park contains rare species of tropical plants, there are exotic ones. There are also many animals here, in addition to land dwellers, there are sea lions, dolphins, killer whales, shows with which are another attraction of Loro Park. The real pride of the founders is the largest collection of large parrots. There are gray parrots from Central Africa, almost all types of cockatoos, except for the Australian Lori, shows with them will not leave anyone indifferent. nine0005

If you live in the south of Tenerife, then it is beneficial for you to buy an entrance ticket to Loro Parque along with an express ticket. Its cost is 44 euros, boarding tourists on demand.

Be sure to specify your location when purchasing tickets. You will be picked up from your hotel at approximately 9:00 am. On a comfortable bus you will reach Puerto de la Cruz, almost to the entrance to Loro Park, and before the park closes, the same bus will take you back. Usually one day is enough to enjoy the rides, shows and attractions. You won’t even notice how quickly time flies. At one fine moment, you will realize that time is running out, and you have not seen much yet. nine0005

Siam Park

In 2008, 36 years after the opening of Loro Park, the founders opened another amusement park and named it Siam. For the arrangement of water attractions, architects and builders used the style of ancient Thailand, which is in perfect harmony with modern areas for free recreation. The amusement park perfectly complements Loro Park, together they are like a whole.

Why was the style of ancient Thailand chosen instead of India or China? nine0005

The idea came about after the head of the family, Kristoff Kissling, returned from a trip to Cambodia and Thailand. Inspired by the architecture and nature of Southeast Asia, he decided to embody the fabulous world of Thailand in the largest water amusement park in Europe. To make it work, Kissling agreed on the name with the Royal House of Thailand and received approval. The water park was built relatively quickly, in 2004 the first stone of Siam park was laid in the foundation and 4 years later, in mid-September 2008, it began its work. The opening ceremony of Siam Park was attended by Her Majesty Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn of Thailand. nine0005

Under the strict guidance of Rutai (Bangkok) professor and excellent specialist, experienced civil engineers Philippe Meifeld and José Luis Olsin, artist from Italy Paolo Bananno, the open area was turned into a real fairy town for entertainment.

What can surprise Siam park?

  • Here is a big artificial wave, the dream of surfers.
  • The beach is equipped, the white quartz sand of which will not leave anyone indifferent. nine0060
  • Design engineers took care to create high water slides.
  • The main attraction and extreme entertainment of Siam Park is a slide with the exotic name Tower of power, 28 meters high and almost vertical descent. Another attraction that site visitors consider to be the coolest in the world is the Dragon.

Attention! Unlike other amusement parks on the island of Tenerife, it is not customary to bring food to Siam Park. Don’t forget to bring sunscreen and a good mood. nine0005

Aqualand

island of Tenerife, so the flow of visitors does not decrease even in the worst years, despite the relative high cost of tickets. After all, today the water park successfully continues its activities and constantly renews attractions, and in the “hot season” (July-August) it experiences an additional influx of guests. nine0005

A very popular performance with dolphins, in this Aqualand is in no way inferior to Loro Parque. The professionally staged show, which lasts no more than half an hour, is shown to visitors once a day at 15:30, and if it is the peak of the season, then another introduction is added at 12:45.

At the end of the show, children and adults can take a picture with their favorite dolphin for a reasonable price, it will cost only 20 €. For 50 €, the visitor is allowed to take part in a simple trick, and if you pay 100 €, you can put on a hydraulic suit and go down to swim in the pool surrounded by trained dolphins. nine0005

Like any water park, Aqualand is equipped with many water attractions. Their assortment is quite standard and is unlikely to surprise a person who is eager to try something extraordinary, however, other people will get a lot of positive impressions.

Even for children, there is a special section where a child of 3-9 years old can swim and ride on a safe children’s attraction. And “Siam” is intended for a more adult audience.

Aqualand is located 800 meters from the ocean in the resort of Costa Adeje. It can be found along the TF-1 motorway, on its outer side. Vacationers staying in hotels can easily reach the water park on foot, using a bridge laid across the highway, and residents of more distant areas can use private transport or hire a taxi. nine0005

Puppet Park

Do you like dolls? If yes, then we invite you to the Puppet Museum located in the city of Icod de los Vinos.

In 2011, the ARTlandya Museum was moved to the island of Tenerife from Austria. Not everyone knows that dolls are different. Fashionistas and elves, trolls and fantasy-style babies, and classic puppet girls. Today, many genres of this art have become independent areas with their own foundations, rules, collectors and artists. Especially valuable are dolls that are created in a single copy, the so-called one-of-a-kid. Such dolls cannot be duplicated, this is their uniqueness and charm. Many puppeteers work with limited editions. This means that there may be fewer dolls than previously stated, but in no case more. Author’s dolls are especially appreciated, which are marked and have a certificate confirming their uniqueness and authenticity. nine0005

In addition to a large collection of dolls, the museum has an exposition of teddy bears. Here you can see a collection of over 600 teddy bears, as well as unique dolls made from vinyl and porcelain, wood and other materials. Adults and children will find a lot of interesting things here, especially since the dolls were brought from all over the world, exhibits were selected from the best workshops in the world. The museum itself is not one large building with spacious halls, but several Canadian-style houses, each with a separate exposition. nine0005

Planning to visit the Puppet Museum with children? Be sure to plan a short walk through the tropical park among flowers, fruit trees and ponds. They will perfectly complement the impressions of the previously seen exhibits of the museum.

Butterfly Park

Exotics on the island of Tenerife will surprise no one. Well, if you want to get aesthetic pleasure, then we invite you to the Butterfly Park. This is one of the best attractions on the island, the perfect place to visit. It is better to visit the Mariposario del Drago park on a sunny day, since it is at this time that the butterflies are especially active, fluttering among trees and flowers, sitting on hands, clothes, so it is much easier to photograph them in all their glory. In cloudy weather, the charming inhabitants of the Park sleep in a secluded place, away from the views of visitors. nine0005

In order to create ideal conditions for the inhabitants to reproduce and live, a glass dome was created in which conditions ideally close to the tropical climate are cultivated.

Part of the butterflies was brought from the Philippines, Malaysia, there are species that live in Australia, Costa Rica. In total, about 800 butterflies of various sizes live in the park. The largest of them has a wingspan of up to 30 cm, while the smallest is only 2 cm.

Would you like to take a picture of a butterfly? Wait for her near the feeders placed in different parts of the park. Especially for this, park employees put fruits and sweets here every day. But the peacock-eye atlas does without food, it can be seen that even during its lifetime, the voracious caterpillar stocked up with all the necessary useful substances. This is a unique butterfly of large size, due to which its cocoons are used in Taiwan for wallets, and in India they are specially bred to produce silk threads. nine0005

There is a lot to see in the Mariposario del Drago Park. In addition to butterflies, cocoons attract attention, which are not so easy to see and consider among subtropical vegetation. To create ideal conditions for breeding, the Butterfly Park has an incubator. It is here that you can see and capture the whole process of turning a beautiful butterfly from a caterpillar. Those who are especially inquisitive can watch a film about these amazing insects in the lobby hall and buy dried moths in the store for their own collection or as a souvenir to friends and acquaintances. nine0005

Pyramids of Guimar

Among the must-see excursions on the island of Tenerife, one should pay attention to the Pyramids of Guimar. This mystery of the island has not yet been fully disclosed and attracts numerous historians, archaeologists, ordinary onlookers, tourists from all over the world. One of the main mysteries of the pyramids is that no one can answer the question: “Who and when built them.” One thing is known, that their builder knew astronomy well and everything connected with the Sun.

Most of the pyramids known today are concentrated in Mesopotamia. For a long time, these were the main burial places of the pharaohs, their afterlife residences, but no one knew before the discovery of America that at the same time the pyramids were built in Latin America, Europe, and Asia. They were used mainly for rituals. Although there are disputes to this day, since at 19In 47, a burial chamber was found in the pyramid of Palenque. This means that in the ancient civilizations of America, the pyramids were also part of the funeral ritual.

The main inspiration behind the creation of the Guimar Pyramid Park is the great traveler Thor Heyerdahl. In the 90s of the last century, he suggested that there are similarities between the early pyramids of Egypt, Mesopotamia, Peru and the island of Tenerife, which can be explained by the results of trade between the cities of ancient civilizations. But exactly how information was exchanged between ancient travelers remains a mystery, although there is evidence for this assumption. For example, during the excavations around the pyramid of Guimar, objects typical of the indigenous people of America were found, which are now stored in the ethnographic museum built at the historical park. nine0005

Thor Heyerdahl’s hypothesis of intercontinental communication has been developed since the pre-Columbian era, and you will have the opportunity to think about it, walking along the paths between ancient structures. To some, the exhibits of an open-air historical museum may seem like agrotechnical terraces, to others as observatories, to others as a large cemetery. How many people have so many opinions.

In 1998, a museum with a small cinema hall was opened in the park, which shows a documentary film about ancient civilizations of the pre-Columbian era. Here you can also see the model of the sailing boat RA-2, on which Thor Heyerdahl at 19In 70, he crossed the Atlantic in 50 days and proved that in the days of Ancient Egypt it was quite possible to overcome 6100 km of the way in order to carry out cultural exchange between countries and peoples.

The ethnographic museum has separate paid rooms, for example, with an exposition dedicated to Easter Island. There is a garden on the territory, which contains unique poisonous plants brought from all over the world.

Nothing is impossible on the island of Tenerife. Any desire of a traveler is a law for tour organizers. You may not have time to visit the water park or the botanical garden, or ride camels or horses, but you must climb the Teide volcano. This is the hallmark of the island, its main attraction. If you have not climbed the volcano, you can assume that you have not seen all the beauty of the island. nine0005

The Teide volcano is considered the highest point not only in Spain, but in the entire Atlantic. Its height is 3718 m above sea level. If you manage to look at the island of Tenerife from the ocean, be sure to pay attention to the fact that the Teide cone occupies most of it. This is a unique natural formation with uneven slopes, lava solidified on some of them after numerous eruptions, and small volcanoes formed on other slopes.

Together with us you will go on an exciting journey to the Teide volcano by car. We will climb to a height of 2356 m, just in time for the lower station. Further, to climb to the top, you need to walk or take the funicular. The cable car allows tourists to save the effort and energy that you still need to carefully explore the majestic volcano at its top.
