Where does this data come from
Weather data for Maspalomas was collected from the MERRA-2 project from NASA, which used a climate model combined with historical data from weather stations around the world to estimate what the conditions were like for every point on the Earth.
For all data based on historical data, we’ve averaged the data from the past 11 years (2010-2020). For example, for the hourly temperature at 10am, we’ve looked at the temperature at 10am on every day in August (e.g., August 1, August 2, etc. in 2010, 2011, etc.) and took the arithmetic mean. We did not smooth the data, so for example, our daily temperature line will have some randomness due to the fact that weather is random in the first place.

However, now Charles III has decreed that any presence of Andrew at the residence of the British monarchs is over, the staff of the office is expected to be dismissed. British King Charles III has deprived the office of his younger brother, 62-year-old Prince Andrew in Buckingham Palace. The Sun wrote about it. nine0003 “Any presence [of Prince Andrew] in the palace is officially over. The king made it clear. He [Prince Andrew] is not acting as a member of the royal family. He is on his own, ”says the source of the publication. Until recently, despite his retirement from all official business, Andrew continued to have his office in the official residence of the British monarchs. Now all employees are threatened with dismissal, the publication says. The Prince of York himself will continue to live at Windsor Castle near London. Since 2003, he has been granted the right to reside on the Royal Lodge estate for 75 years. In addition to the house of the same name with 31 bedrooms, it includes 40 hectares of land, on which there are several more residential buildings. nine0003 In October 2022, it was reported that Prince Andrew spent whole days at the royal mansion watching TV, occasionally going out for a walk with the dogs or for horseback riding. One of his friends told The Telegraph that the king’s younger brother has become “more thoughtful and more reasonable than ever” and began to listen to the family’s advice. Prince scandal Prince Andrew was forced to step down from official duties at the end of 2019year, when the American Virginia Giufre, not for the first time, publicly announced that the Queen’s son was among several men with whom American financier Jeffrey Epstein forced her to have sex at the age of 17. The latter was detained in July 2019 on charges of sexual violence and involving minors in prostitution. Prosecutors said there was evidence that between 2002 and 2005 the businessman arranged visits to his home in New York’s Manhattan borough of dozens of underage girls, the youngest of whom was 14 years old. The criminal prosecution of the financier in the United States was terminated after his suicide in a prison cell on August 10, 2019of the year. Lower dew points feel drier and higher dew points feel more humid. Unlike temperature, which typically varies significantly between night and day, dew point tends to change more slowly, so while the temperature may drop at night, a muggy day is typically followed by a muggy night. Definitions of the growing season vary throughout the world, but for the purposes of this report, we define it as the longest continuous period of non-freezing temperatures (≥ 32°F) in the year (the calendar year in the Northern Hemisphere, or from July 1 until June 30 in the Southern Hemisphere).
Temperatures in Costa Blanca are sufficiently warm year round that it is not entirely meaningful to discuss the growing season in these terms. We nevertheless include the chart below as an illustration of the distribution of temperatures experienced throughout the year.

We draw particular cautious attention to our reliance on the MERRA-2 model-based reconstructions for a number of important data series. We further caution that our travel scores are only as good as the data that underpin them, that weather conditions at any given location and time are unpredictable and variable, and that the definition of the scores reflects a particular set of preferences that may not agree with those of any particular reader.

Things to do in lanzarote in august: 25 AMAZING THINGS TO DO AND SEE IN LANZAROTE, SPAIN
Tips to plan a trip on your own
You have probably landed on this Lanzarote travel guide because you are going to visit this beautiful Canary Island. You should feel lucky! Everyone who visits Lanzarote ends up falling in love and you are about to discover why. In this article, I have selected the best tips before traveling to Lanzarote, Canary Islands. In this way, it will be easier for you to plan your trip.
Lanzarote, one of the most beautiful islands in the Canary Islands, stands out for its numerous volcanoes, which you can admire by visiting Timanfaya National Park. However, Lanzarote has much more. Incredible beaches of golden and black sand, mountainous massifs, charming towns, amazing viewpoints that will amaze you and, of course, all the works of César Manrique.
Below, you will find tourist information about Lanzarote: the best time to visit, how much time to spend, how to get around the island, what to see in Lanzarote, the best day tours, where to stay and other recommendations for visiting Lanzarote. I hope it helps you plan your trip to Lanzarote. Let’s start!
Best time to visit Lanzarote
Lanzarote is a good destination to visit year round. Maximum temperatures range between 20°C and 28°C. Therefore, no matter what time of year you visit, you can always enjoy a pleasant time.
As for the high and low season on the island, you should know that during the winter months (especially December and January), along with July and August, there are more visitors in Lanzarote. During these months there are more people and prices are higher. The low season is in April, May, June, September and October.
If you want to travel to Lanzarote at the best time, I recommend choosing traveling in September or October. You’ll be traveling in low season, therefore, prices will be lower and you will be able to enjoy the tourist attractions in Lanzarote with much more peace of mind. Also, in September there is less wind in Lanzarote than July or August. Finally, the days are still long and with very pleasant temperatures.
The month of November, along with April, May and June, are also a good months to visit Lanzarote.
How to visit Lanzarote – Lanzarote travel guide
The most common way to visit Lanzarote is by taking a flight. If you are already in the Canary Islands or if you are going to bring your own vehicle from mainland Spain, you may be interested in taking a ferry to Lanzarote. Below we’ll review the different options.
Flight to Lanzarote, Canary Islands
There are direct flights to Lanzarote from different cities in Spain: Oviedo, Seville, Valencia, Madrid, Barcelona, Malaga, Bilbao, Santiago de Compostela, Gran Canaria, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, etc. There are several companies that offer these routes but Ryanair is the one that offers the most affordable flights to Lanzarote.
I recommend searching for your flights to Lanzarote on Skyscanner, a platform that I always use to compare flights. Once you find the best flight, I advise you to always buy it through the airline’s website.
Travel to Lanzarote on a ferry
If you are interested in getting to Lanzarote by ferry, I recommend you look for the best price on Ferryhopper, a platform that offers routes for different ferry companies.
It is a good alternative if you are already on another Canary Island, such as Gran Canaria or Fuerteventura, and want to continue your trip through Lanzarote.
Travel to Lanzarote: How many days should I spend?
The 845.9 km² of space in Lanzarote is full of incredible places which will require your time to discover them all. In my case, I spent a week in Lanzarote, which seems like a good number of days to get a good first impression of the island. Although if you have more time in Lanzarote, even better!
A one-week trip to Lanzarote is very good to get to know the island; however, if you have fewer days, don’t worry. You can still make a good route through Lanzarote for 4 days or so. You will only have to reduce the number of places to visit or increase the pace of your trip.
What to see in Lanzarote, Canary Islands
As I just mentioned, there are many places to see in Lanzarote. The island draws attention for its deserted and volcanic landscapes. Timanfaya National Park is on of Lanzarote’s main tourist attraction.
Another reason why Lanzarote is worth visiting is because it hosts incredible beaches, charming towns, surprising viewpoints and the works of César Manrique, scattered throughout the island. In addition, the free and wild atmosphere that the island offers will completely captivate you.
Let’s start with the best beaches in Lanzarote. During your vacation on the island, you cannot miss Famara Beach, one of the most beautiful beaches I have ever seen, and the beautiful Papagayo Beach, ideal for swimming.
Other beaches that I recommend visiting are Caletón Blanco, El Jablillo, Mujeres Beach, Janubio Beach and Montaña Bermeja Beach. These last two are black-sand beaches.
As for towns in Lanzarote, I recommend visiting Caleta de Famara, Teguise, Haría, Arrieta and El Golfo, where I recommend eating fresh fish by the sea. You can also take a walk through Arrecife, the capital of Lanzarote. Here I recommend taking a walk through Charco de San Ginés.
Other essential places to visit in Lanzarote are Risco de Famara Viewpoint, the famous crevasses, Los Charcones, Caldera Blanca, Del Río Viewpoint, Jameos del Agua, Cueva de los Verdes, Cactus Garden, Cuervo Volcano, Charco de los Clicos, Los Hervideros, Janubio Salt Flats, Lagomar Museum, hiking up the Black Mountain, La Geria Winery, the César Manrique Foundation and the Colorada Mountain.
Something else that I recommend doing if you are going to travel to Lanzarote is taking a day trip to La Graciosa. You can book an organized tour or go on your own. In my article on how to get to La Graciosa, I give you all the info and tell you what to do on this island.
How to save some money on your trip to Lanzarote
If you want to save money during your trip to Lanzarote (Canary Islands), you may be interested in buying one of the Lanzarote tourist passes.
They have vouchers for 3, 4 or 6 centers, among which you will choose several of the following attractions in Lanzarote:
– Timanfaya National Park (€12 without pass).
– Cueva de los Verdes (€10 without pass).
– Jameos del Agua (€10 without pass).
– Cactus Garden (€6.50 without pass).
– Mirador del Río (€5 without pass).
– Castillo de San José (€4 without pass).
The 3 center pass costs €23.50, the 4 center pass costs €29 and, finally, the 6 center pass costs €35.
As you can see, if you are going to visit several of these places in Lanzarote, it is advisable to buy one of the passes to save some money during your trip.
How to get around in Lanzarote – Lanzarote travel guide
The best way to get around the island is by car, therefore, I recommend renting a car in Lanzarote. If it is not an option, you can use public transport but you will be quite limited. You can also choose to do private transfers. You can book them in advance here.
Car rental in Lanzarote
If you are planning on renting a car in Lanzarote, I recommend doing so through Cicar or Cabrera Medina (they belong to the same company). It is a local business and they offer very good service. Unlike other companies, they do not ask for a security deposit, the rental includes comprehensive insurance and the prices are very good.
It is possible, especially if you travel in high season or if you are looking at it with little time in advance, that there are no cars available for your trip in these companies. If so, I recommend looking for a car rental in Lanzarote at Auto Europe.
Some roads on the island are dirt roads, such as the one that goes to Papagayo beaches, in the south of Lanzarote. The rest, for the most part, are paved. Therefore, you can choose any type of vehicle but if you want to be even more safe, it is not a bad idea to rent a 4×4 vehicle for your visit to Lanzarote, Canary Islands.
Visit Lanzarote in public transportation
If renting a car is not an option, you can use the island’s public transport. We used the bus the first days of the trip to go from the airport to Arrecife and from Arrecife to Órzola (to get on the ferry to La Graciosa) and it went well. However, the schedules are quite limited if you are going to use the buses to visit the island.
On the Intercity Transport website, you can check the routes and schedules. If you are going to use the bus (or guaguas, as they say in the Canary Islands) to move around the island, I recommend staying in Arrecife, since most bus routes depart from the capital.
I repeat, it is not the best option to move around Lanzarote since you will be very limited. However, if you have no other option, you can combine taking the bus with booking private transportation services and organized tours. Below I review some of the best tours in Lanzarote.
Best tours in Lanzarote
Another great option if you are not going to rent a car on your trip to Lanzarote is to book organized tours. Below you can see the best tours in this Lanzarote travel guide.
La Graciosa day trip. After arriving in La Graciosa by ferry and strolling through Caleta de Sebo, you will cruise along the coast on a sailboat. The tour includes a stop at one of the best beaches on the island and equipment for water activities. Food and open bar drinks are also included. You will be picked up at your hotel on the island.
North of Lanzarote Trip. Thanks to this tour you will be able to visit Jameos del Agua and the Monumento al Campesino, works by the famous artist César Manrique. You will also visit Cueva de los Verdes, one of the natural wonders on the island. You’ll be picked up at the hotel.
Excursion to Timanfaya and the Jameos del Agua. If you book this tour, you will be able to visit Timanfaya National Park and Jameos del Agua, two of the essential places to see in Lanzarote, Canary Islands. You will also make a stop at Charco de los Clicos and La Geria, apart from passing through the Valley of a Thousand Palms. Hotel pick-up is made from various points on the island.
– Cesar Manrique Tour of Lanzarote. If you are interested in visiting all the works of César Manrique left on the island, you will love this tour. Thanks to it, you can visit the Monument el Campesino, Del Río Viewpoint, Jameos del Agua, the Cactus Garden and the César Manrique Foundation. Hotel pick-up is made from various points on the island.
Where to stay in Lanzarote
As far as hotels in Lanzarote, my advice is to stay in a central area of the island. This way, you will be able to vist all corners quickly and you will not have switch hotels during your stay.
We stayed in Costa Teguise, a coastal town not far from Arrecife, and we were very comfortable. Specifically, at Conylanza Golf and Mar Suites, some apartments located in a very quiet area of this town. I recommend it! You can see more hotels in Costa Teguise here.
Caleta de Famara is a little further north but the atmosphere and surroundings of this town are charming. Therefore, it is also a great option to stay in Lanzarote. You can check the available hotels in Famara here. I recommend the Dunas de Famara apartment.
If you want to be close to the best beaches in Lanzarote, then I recommend staying in Playa Blanca, in the south. If you decide on this area, take a look at Jardines del Sol By Diamond Resorts aparthotel. Check the rest of the available hotels in Playa Blanca here.
If you still have doubts about accommodation on the island, I recommend you read my guide on where to stay in Lanzarote.
Other trips to travel to Lanzarote
Below, you can see other tips in this Lanzarote travel guide.
– Travel insurance for Lanzarote:
Even if you have medical coverage in Lanzarote, travel insurance covers other things such as luggage or transportation delays. If you want to travel to Lanzarote with all the peace of mind possible, I recommend Heymondo travel insurance.
– What to take with you to Lanzarote:
You may be wondering what clothing to pack for your trip to Lanzarote. Temperatures are usually warm throughout the year but, especially in the winter months, it can get quite cool. For this reason, I always recommend bringing at least one jacket and some long pants. As for footwear, I recommend wearing sports shoes and flip-flops with good grip.
– Traditional food:
Be sure to eat fresh fish, papas arrugadas with mojo picón, Canarian gofio, island cheeses… Don’t forget to try the local wine!
– Free tours in Lanzarote:
If you want to take a guided tour at a very good price, I recommend booking free tours available in Lanzarote. At the end of the tour, you will pay a donation to the guide. At the moment you can do the following “free” guided tours: free tour in Teguise and free tour in Arrecife. You will be able to learn very interesting facts about the history and culture of this Canary Island in an affordable way.

Attractions and places to visit
Lanzarote is considered to be the idiosyncratic beauty of the Canary Islands, because the island is blessed with a charm that some people initially perceive as somewhat harsh. But on closer inspection, it is the power of the elements that give Lanzarote its unique flair. The volcanic origin has already put humility, but also creativity, into the cradle of the locals.
Those who have not seen mountains of fire in Timanfaya National Park cannot imagine the power of the eruptions that devastated entire regions there. But also this moon landscape is an important part of the island and a destination of tourists from all over the world.
In the following we present you the most exciting tours, the most beautiful attractions and the best sights on Lanzarote.

1. Timanfaya National Park
This is the largest continuous lava field on earth, and it was the volcanic eruptions between 1730 and 1736 that completely changed the once fertile landscape. Since those six years Lanzarote has been a quarter below a thick layer of solidified lava. The eruptions created almost thirty volcanic cones, which are listed on the maps as “Montanas del Fuego”, the fire mountains. The authorities of the island are very concerned that the appearance of the National Park Timanfaya does not change.
Visitors are driven by buses through this impressive desert of ashes, and no one is allowed to take home one of the countless lava stones. In this region the crew of the American Apollo flights was prepared for their moon landing, and the park also served as a backdrop for the legendary film “Planet of the Apes”. The Islote de Hilario visitor centre will demonstrate how thin the earth’s crust is there. At a depth of just a few metres, the highest temperatures prevail. The “Fire Mountains” are among the most important sights of Lanzarote.
2. Mirador del Rio
One of the most spectacular sights of the island is also the magnificent landscape in the north of Lanzarote, where the Famara Mountains drop steeply to the sea and where the Mirador del Rio resembles an eagle’s nest. This is one of the most interesting works of the ingenious artist César Manrique. Its apparently inexhaustible power of ideas meets the visitors of Lanzarote at many points. Even in the form of oversized wind turbines at road junctions.
The Mirador del Rio at the Bateria del Norte originated at the place where cannons were stationed during the American-Spanish war, because this was a strategically important place in Lanzarote. From there, in the Middle Ages, the ships of pirates could also be seen approaching the offshore island of La Graciosa. Today the visitors will find a cafeteria and the launch site for hang-gliders.
3. Jameos del Agua
The guests of Lanzarote sometimes argue about which of the many interesting works of César Manrique leaves the greatest admirers behind. The Jameos del Agua volcanic cave is undoubtedly a tourist attraction and an exceptional destination on the island. It is a lava tunnel that Manrique transformed into a kind of Gesamtkunstwerk with astonishing ideas.
The cave system was formed about three thousand years ago during the eruption of Monte Corona. When Manrique first saw the tunnel, it was a garbage dump, but the artist very soon recognized the peculiarity of the Jameos del Agua. Visitors today walk through a salt lake, huge subtropical plants and even a concert hall. Above ground a swimming pool completes the complex.
4. Jardín de Cactus (Cactus Garden)
A former pit, which the surrounding farmers dismantled in order to sprinkle their fields with the Picon won there, became another “playground” for César Manriques.
Picon was used to keep the fields moist at night and was therefore very much in demand.
But Manrique used the shape of the pit, which over the decades had turned into an amphitheatre, to create a garden with succulents at the end of Guatiza. Some of the prickly plants have taken on amazing proportions in the meantime. A historic gofio mill is enthroned above everything – a great eye-catcher in a garden with over 1,400 different types of cactus.
5. Fundación César Manrique
César Manrique, the imaginative artist and architect, is undoubtedly the greatest son of Lanzarote. The place where he lived and worked after 1968 and his return from New York is now the Fundación César Manrique. This is an idiosyncratic and yet fantastic house in a picturesque lava landscape.
Manrique decided to live above and below ground, with the five cavities of a former lava tunnel being particularly imaginatively constructed. Manrique knew how to form nature and art into a harmonious unity. The Fundación is a very good example of this. Just a few metres from his home, Manrique suffered fatal injuries in a traffic accident on 25 September 1992.
6. Arrecife
About 55,000 people live in the island capital Arrecife. Most of them earn their living through tourism. Several hotels and guesthouses were built near the beach boulevard. Arrecife means “reef”, which means the numerous rocks off the coast of the city.
They protect against the often unpredictable tidal waves of the Atlantic. Arrecife exudes a cheerful serenity. When visiting, you should visit the parish church and stroll along the shopping street with its restaurants and bars.
7. Vineyard La Geria
Even the vineyards in Lanzarote could have originated from the César Manrique think tank, because in the region of La Geria the vines grow from a hollow. They have the advantage that the humidity of the night collects there on this island spoiled by the sun. The plants are surrounded by small stone walls. Thus the wine is protected from the constantly blowing wind. La Geria can be found on the rather karstic hills above Puerto del Carmen and is a protected landscape area designated by the authorities.
After the volcanic activity in the 18th century, the winegrowers struggled to give their vines a new chance of survival. They were successful and today present a wine from the Malvasia grape that meets international demands. This region is undoubtedly one of the attractions of this island. In more than twenty bodegas it is worthwhile to enjoy a red or white drop of grape juice.
8. Puerto del Carmen
The resorts and hotels stretch over seven kilometres along the coast near Puerto del Carmen. Less than half a century ago the young village consisted only of mostly dilapidated fishermen’s huts. “La Tinosa” is what the people of Lanzarote called the area around the small port. Which means as much as “the shabby one.”
Hardly anyone could have imagined at that time that a complete change would take place there. Today Puerto del Carmen is a tourist highlight. Perhaps because Manrique had an influence here, too, and the houses were not allowed to grow higher than four floors. A building regulation that was and is conducive to the overall impression of the site.
9. El Golfo
If you want to enjoy the authentic Lanzarote, you should go to the small fishing village El Golfo on the rocky coast of the west. And when you have reached the white houses there, the bizarre volcanic landscape of the Timanfaya mountains remains.
Here there are some rural accommodations and above all an exquisite gastronomy. The fish restaurants on the beach and at the edge of the sandy alleys are famous for the variety and quality of their products. Especially romantic are the evenings when the sun sinks into the sea.
10. Valley of a thousand palm trees
Although there are by no means “a thousand palms” that thrive in the protected valley of Haria, there are certainly a few hundred of them. The area is extremely rich in water and therefore offers a very good breeding ground for the “Phoenix Canariensis”, the Canary palm.
Haria produces a liqueur from the sugar-sweet dates, which is said to be helpful in bronchial diseases. César Manrique found his final resting place in the small village with its green mountain ridges and the tranquil Plaza León y Castillo.

Vacation in Spain in August.
What to do and what to see in Spain? What weather to expect?
Spain is a legendary, unique, amazing country. Many people dream about it, and those who happened to visit Spain dream of an early return visit. Spain is a kind of culture, wonderful nature, beaches, pleasant climate, national cuisine – what could be more interesting!
You can visit Spain at any time, but it is much more pleasant to explore the beauty of Spain during the warmer and drier months of the year, for example, in summer. This article is just devoted to what constitutes a holiday in Spain in August.
It is rather difficult to talk about the weather when we are talking about a whole country. Still, Spain is not such a small country, and therefore the weather in its different areas is slightly different. In the northwest, the climate is slightly milder, and there is always rainfall (such is the influence of the Atlantic Ocean). In the center of Spain (where Castile, for example) the climate is drier and hotter.
If we consider the most popular cities in Spain, then we should certainly start with Madrid, the capital of Spain. It is very hot and sunny there in August: during the day, on average, it is + 33-34 ° C, sometimes it is even higher than + 36 ° C. The nights there are also warm and pleasant for walking: + 20-22 ° C, and in the last days of August, the air can cool down to 17 degrees at night, which, however, is also not bad.
Seville is not located on the coast, so no sea breezes can cool the city: during the day, the average temperature in August is +37-38°C, several times a month the thermometer moves over the mark of +40 degrees. But the nights in Seville are more pleasant, but also very hot and stuffy – + 23-24 ° С.
The weather on the Mediterranean coast is a little more comfortable, there are much less temperature fluctuations. In Barcelona, which, by the way, is also much to the north, it is a little less hot in August – the thermometer fluctuates around + 27-28 ° С, occasionally rising above + 30 ° С (it is rarely hotter than +32). However, evenings and nights in Barcelona are also very warm (around +21-22°C). In Valencia, the picture is about the same as in Barcelona, since they are only 4 hours away from each other, but, nevertheless, in Valencia in August it will always be a couple of degrees warmer.
Don’t forget that Spain also has islands. In the Canary Islands (to which the famous Tenerife belongs), due to the influence of the not-so-warm Atlantic Ocean, in August it will not be as hot as on the mainland: during the day, on average + 26-27 ° C (it almost never rises above +30), at night – +22-23°C. And this despite the fact that there are islands south of the mainland.
But the Spanish islands in the Mediterranean – the Balearic Islands (Majorca, Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera) delight with hotter beach August weather: during the day on the islands on average + 30-31 ° С, at night – + 25-26 ° С. At the same time, the weather on the islands is very stable, there are almost no drops, and whatever the temperature is today, it will be the same tomorrow (with rare exceptions).
In general, there is little rain in Spain in August, as a rule, no more than 1-2 times for the whole month, and most often there will be no rain at all. So, the sky will be clear, there will be a lot of sun – the best weather for the beach. By the way, coastal waters are not warm everywhere, even though August is one of the hottest months of the year. For example, the waters off the coast of the Canary Islands in August, of course, are warm, but not for everyone – the ocean is the ocean, and the water temperature this month is only + 23-24 ° C, slightly warmer towards the end of the month. It is more pleasant to swim in August in the Mediterranean Sea – both on the beaches of the islands and on the mainland beaches: the average water temperature in these areas is + 26-28 ° C. This temperature can be considered quite comfortable, so beach parties, even with night swimming somewhere in Ibiza in August, are just right!
Thus, the weather in August in Spain can be described in three words: hot, stuffy, dry. For a beach holiday, this weather is very suitable, but for walking around the city (at least in the daytime) – sometimes, not very much. But those who love the heat and the sun will love Spain in August!
Things to do in Spain in August
As mentioned above, August is a perfect month for relaxing on the beaches of Spain, in view of the weather conditions. Spain boasts beaches on numerous picturesque islands and beaches of mainland towns.
If not beaches, then excursions, walks. Spain is one of the most amazing countries with some amazing atmosphere. Literally every city in this country is a real work of art, with palaces, basilicas, old monasteries, cozy streets. In terms of historical and cultural value, the architectural heritage of Spain among all European countries is second only to Italy.
City parks are also good: in Blanes – the amazing botanical garden “Mar and Murtra” and “Pina de Rosa” , in Seville – Alcazar Gardens , in Madrid – Sabatini Gardens – this beauty is everywhere in bulk .
Spain’s nightlife is a real treat. On warm romantic August evenings, it’s so cool to wander around bars and clubs in the evenings, dance, drink fragrant Spanish wine, walk until the morning to meet the sunrise. The most party cities in Spain – Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia, Seville . In fact, these are the largest cities in the country. In general, you can write about Ibiza for a long time and colorfully, because this is one of the most popular party spots in the world (or for Europeans). In general, there is a lot of entertainment in Spain, for every taste and budget.
Holidays and festivals in Spain in August
Summer is a hot time in Spain, which pleases with its interesting events. Something entertaining happens literally in every town in Spain. It makes no sense to talk about everything, but it is worth noting Feria de Malaga , which takes place in mid-August: this is one of the biggest annual events in Malaga, when the whole city is having fun, Marques de Larios street is filled with paper lanterns and colorful decorations, people dress up in fancy costumes, traditional Spanish music and flamenco sound , noisy open-air concerts are held, and in general these days are really really fun. Many tourists choose these days to visit Malaga to witness this colorful spectacle and participate in it. Another August event – Nuestra Senora de la Victoria Pilgrimage in mid-August. These days, dedicated to the patron saint of Malaga, pilgrims arrive here – on horseback and carts, to pray in the church of Nuestra Señora de la Victoria.
Also in the middle of the month they celebrate the Assumption of the Virgin Mary , including prayers, as well as a dance and wine festival.
One of the brightest events in Madrid is “Veranos de la Villa” (Summer in the City): concerts and theatrical performances as part of the festival.
In the northern part of Spain (Galicia, Navarre, Basque Country and Catalonia), as well as in the area of Madrid in August, you can witness the festival Vuelta a España : this is the Spanish version of the Tour de France cycling race. Dates vary from year to year, but usually the competition takes place in August or September, with a high-profile final in Madrid in the middle of the month.
In Buñol, near Valencia, Tomatina Tomato Fight , the world’s most famous “food fight” (tomatoes, of course), can take place in August. In Barcelona, in the district of Grazia, in the last month of summer they celebrate Gracia festival – fireworks, children’s drawing competitions, dancing, drinking, etc. In the small old town of Sitges, 35 km from Barcelona, in August Festa Major de Sitges is celebrated – the second largest city festival after the carnival.
Thus, Spain is good for everyone: with its amazing traditions and holidays, and way of life, and chic lush nature, and beaches, and the good nature of the locals, and architecture – it is definitely worth visiting this wonderful country, at least once in your life!
This table will help you determine which resorts in Spain are warmest in August, find out where there is less rain and more clear days.

Portugal
Probably all of those who read this article have heard that Portugal is the capital of European surfing. And indeed world-class waves are combined here with comfortable conditions for complete beginners, which creates a big buzz on the entire west coast of the country. August is the height of the holiday season for Europeans, so get ready for a large number of people not only in the water, but also on the shore. Surfing in Portugal in August is suitable mainly for beginners from scratch, as well as for advanced ones who have not yet switched to a shortboard. This is due to the fact that in August the waves off the coast of Portugal are the most gentle and not very large. What does it mean? That’s right: learning to surf and perfecting simple tricks on such waves is a real pleasure. So, if you are not an advanced surfer yet, you can safely pack your luggage and go to a surf camp in Portugal to learn how to surf!
By the way, we have several proven surf camps for you, which will definitely appeal to you if you want to 100% soak up the surf atmosphere of this country. We advise you to choose:
International Surf Camp in Peniche
Russian Camp in Peniche
International Camp in Cascais (located 30 minutes from Lisbon, suitable for even the shortest stay in Portugal).Spain
Who wouldn’t want to go to Spain on holiday? The hot sun, clean beaches, fresh seafood paella, delicious wines and relaxed atmosphere that reigns in this country simply attracts tourists every summer. What if we told you that you don’t have to go to Spain just to see the sights and lie on the beach? Spain has very good conditions for surfing, no worse than in Portugal. But you can really enjoy both surfing and a beach holiday, because the water temperature here is higher than in well-known Portugal.
It takes longer to fly to the surf spots in Spain, but it’s worth it!
The two main Spanish surf destinations in August are northern Spain and the Canary Islands.
The north of Spain has such a name not without reason – it will be a little cooler than the rest of Spain, but more green. The waves in this region at the end of the summer will be best in Galicia – where the Bay of Biscay meets the Atlantic Ocean. This means that in almost any direction of the swell, good conditions for surfing come here. By the way, despite the fact that August in the North Atlantic is considered the “off season” for professional surfers, it is in the north of Spain that you can meet many professionals at this time who catch waves of 2-3 meters and practice cool tricks on them. For beginners, there are comfortable conditions for learning due to the sandy bottom, powerful foam and small green waves. So we recommend this option to everyone without exception.
The Canary Islands are popular not only among leisure travelers, but also among surfers from all over the world. No wonder they are called the European Hawaii, because there is a very large selection of surf spots for any level of experience. August in the Canaries is probably the best month for the combination of waves and weather for beginners and intermediates. Firstly, you will always wear a T-shirt and shorts, because the air temperature this month is always around 28 degrees, and the sun shines every day. Secondly, at the end of summer you can always find waves of 1.5-2 meters here, which is suitable for advanced surfers, and for beginners there is a large selection of sandy beaches with foam that is comfortable for learning. There are Russian surf schools on these islands:
Tenerife
Fuerteventura
LanzaroteItaly
For all pizza lovers and surfers, we have the perfect combination – Italy. During the summer season, the most waves come to the west coast of the Italian island of Sardinia due to its favorable location. And we offer surfing in August in Italy here.
Let’s say right away that this option will be of interest only to beginners or those who have had few classes so far, since the waves in August are small – on average up to 1.5 meters. This is more than enough to stand on the board and feel the beauty of surfing. But such conditions will definitely not be enough for experienced surfers who want to ride “in the tube” on a shortboard.
Italian beaches in August are very popular not only among tourists, but also among the Italians themselves, most of whom take a vacation just at the end of summer. Therefore, if you decide to go to Italy to try surfing in August, we recommend that you book your accommodation in advance, because this is the highest season. And for those who want to live among surfers, we suggest taking a closer look at our surf camp in Sardinia.
Africa
If you have already traveled all over Europe and want something fresh and exotic, we offer surfing in Africa. The two African countries with the most developed surfing infrastructure are Morocco and South Africa. Let’s take a closer look at which of the countries will have better surfing in August.
Morocco
August in Morocco is the hottest month with air temperature around 30 degrees and scorching sun. If you want to not only learn how to surf, but also get a gorgeous tan, then this is a great choice for a vacation. The waves in August in Morocco are suitable for beginners from scratch and for those who continue.
For those who will study for the first time, there will be comfortable conditions for studying on the beach with a sandy bottom and small waves and foam. And for those who continue there will be waves of 1.5-2 meters on the beachbreak and reef spots. The main surf spots in late summer are along the western coast of Morocco, roughly from Agadir and up north. The most popular spots of this coast are: Devil’s Rock, Anchor Point, Banana, Anza, Imsouaine.
South Africa
If you’re up for long flights to see an African surf gem, then welcome to South Africa. Here, beaches suitable for surfing stretch for kilometers almost along the entire coast. Absolute beginners come here to catch the first wave in their life, and cool professionals to do a cool trick on a big sharp wave. The most popular surf spots in South Africa are KwaZulu Natal, Eastern Cape, Jeffreys Bay, Western Cape.
So far, the infrastructure for surfing in South Africa is not as well developed as in Morocco or Europe (few surf schools, surf rentals, and almost no permanent surf camps). In this regard, for everyone who wants to go surfing in South Africa in August, we advise you to take a closer look at our surf camp, which organizes a group surf tour every August to the best surf beaches and the most interesting sights of the country. To find out the tour program for August, please contact us through the Contacts section and we will send you detailed information.
Asia
If the jungle calls you and wants to go far and into completely unusual landscapes, then it’s time for Asia. And since there are many great surf spots, you won’t be bored on vacation. The most popular Asian surf countries are Indonesia (Bali), Sri Lanka and the Philippines. Let’s consider them in more detail!
Bali
Today, when you say “surfing” – the first association of “Bali”. And it’s not just that. After all, on this island there are many places for surfing throughout the year. And for beginners and for steep surfers, there are always suitable waves. And August is no exception. By local standards, August is a winter month, when the water and air temperature drops slightly below normal and becomes 26-28 degrees. But you must admit that for an ordinary inhabitant of the middle latitudes this is a real warm summer. Therefore, learning to surf in such conditions is a real pleasure. Serious swells with big waves often come in August. But for learning from scratch, there is almost always foam and small waves, the main thing is to know which beach to look for them on. The most popular beach for beginners is Kuta. There is a sandy bottom and usually not very big waves. This is where most of the surf schools in Bali are located. Intermediate surfers can get bored quickly in Kuta, which is why all surf camps offer trips to other beaches. After all, the more different waves you try to take, the faster the progress goes.
Sri Lanka
Sri Lanka is not only an island of tea and elephants, but also of surfing. There are no world-class spots here, but there are comfortable conditions for surfing for beginners and experienced surfers. The average wave size is up to 2-3 meters. For beginners, there is always foam for learning and small waves to catch your “green wave”. During the summer months, the best conditions for surfing on this island will be in its southeastern part. There is no rain at this time, besides, good quality waves come to the east coast, ideal for surfing. The most popular area among surfers in this part of Sri Lanka is Arugam Bay. It has all the necessary infrastructure for learning to surf and free skiing. If in August you find yourself in the southwestern part of the island, then you should not be upset, here you can also find surfing and waves at this time. In this part of the island, skiing conditions are suitable mainly for beginners. So if you find yourself somewhere near Galle Fort, check out our surf school for a couple of lessons.
Philippines
The most “surfy” island in the Philippines is Siargao. Here you can find all the infrastructure necessary for surfing (surf school, surfboard rental, transfers to spots). The “high season” for surfing here lasts from July to October, which means that if you come here in August, you will find gorgeous waves. At the end of summer, big waves come here, so in the water you can often see cool surfers on shortboards doing mind-blowing tricks. But do not be afraid if you are still a beginner. You, of course, will not be taken to such waves and you will be engaged in small “knee-deep” waves, taking your first steps in surfing. That’s why August is good in Siargao, because pleasant conditions for skiing can be found at this time for almost any level of training.
North America
Where to go in North America to surf? The two most popular surf countries in this part of the world are Mexico and the Dominican Republic. We will analyze in more detail where it will be better in August.
Mexico
Surfing in Mexico in August attracts a lot of hardcore surfers, because this month is the height of the “high season” of surfing on the Pacific coast of Mexico. Powerful storms bring huge waves the size of a house (up to 10 meters in height) to the shores of this colorful country. Many professional surfers come here at this time to conquer such a wave. But do not think that during August you literally cannot go into the water, otherwise you will be hit by a huge wave. It’s not like that at all. Large waves come only to certain spots, the bottom relief of which allows the formation of a mass of water of such a height. On the other beaches in August there are ordinary waves up to 2-3 meters high. For beginners, there is foam on which they master the technique. Well, if you come for at least two weeks, you can move from foam to conquering small “green waves”. Our Russian surf school in Mexico is always ready to help you with this.
Dominican Republic
Probably, almost everyone with the word “Dominican Republic” imagines gorgeous snow-white beaches with clear blue water and palm trees, palm trees, palm trees .

COVID-19 – how long am I infectious and when can I safely leave isolation? | Imperial News
Imperial experts share their advice on self-isolation after testing positive for COVID-19.
[This article was published on 18 August 2022]
New research from Imperial College London scientists provides detailed new insights into how long people with COVID-19 are infectious. The study is the first real-world evidence of this kind.
The study of 57 people is relevant to those with mild COVID-19 disease. It may not apply to very young and old people, or those with medical conditions. This is because children are thought to clear the virus more quickly, while older people and those with medical conditions may be slower at clearing the virus.
“Based on our findings, we recommend that people with COVID-19 isolate for five days after symptoms begin, then use lateral flow tests to safely leave isolation.” Dr Seran Hakki National Heart & Lung Institute
In the study, two-thirds of cases were still infectious five days after their symptoms began, and one-quarter were still infectious at seven days. However, at the time of publication, NHS guidance suggests that people should try to stay at home and avoid contact with others for just five days.
While there is no longer a legal requirement to self-isolate if you test positive for COVID-19, many people still want to isolate until they are not infectious.
Emily Head speaks to the authors of The Lancet Respiratory Medicine study, Dr Seran Hakki (SH) and Professor Ajit Lalvani (AL) from Imperial’s National Heart & Lung Institute, to find out more.
Q. What’s new about this study?
A. (AL) Previous studies estimating how long someone is infectious for have been a laboratory-based human challenge study or have used mathematical modelling.
Our real-world study involved detailed daily tests of 57 people exposed to SARS-CoV-2 in their home to look at how much infectious virus they were shedding throughout their infection.
Q. How long am I infectious for if I have COVID-19?
A. (SH) Our study found that the average amount of time that people were infectious was five days.
However, this varied from person to person.
Only one in five participants in our study were infectious before symptom onset (7 out of 35 cases), so most people only became infectious after they developed symptoms.
22 of 34 people continued to shed infectious virus five days after their symptoms began, and eight of these people continued to shed infectious virus at seven days.
This is despite the levels of infectious virus people shed reducing over the course of infection.
Q. How long should I isolate for if I have tested positive or have symptoms?
A. (SH) As per NHS guidance, if you test positive for COVID-19 or have symptoms after being in contact with someone with confirmed COVID-19, you should try to stay at home and minimise contact with other people.
Based on our findings, we recommend that people with COVID-19 isolate for five days after symptoms begin, then use lateral flow tests to safely leave isolation. This supports the current guidance for NHS staff who test positive for COVID-19.
Q. How can I work out when it’s safe to leave isolation?
A. (SH) Our study found that, while lateral flow tests are not reliable for early diagnosis (unless used daily), they are good at spotting when someone is no longer infectious, so testing to release people from isolation may work.
“If a person continues to test positive on day six or beyond, or does not have access to lateral flow tests, we think they should remain in isolation until they’ve had two consecutive days with negative test results.” Professor Ajit Lalvani National Heart & Lung Institute
After five days of isolation, people can complete lateral flow tests on days six and seven.
If these tests are negative, we think it is safe to leave isolation on day seven.
If a person continues to test positive on day six or beyond, or does not have access to lateral flow tests, we think they should remain in isolation until they’ve had two consecutive days with negative test results. Or, they can leave isolation on the 10th day after their symptoms began. Based on the evidence available, we think it’s unlikely for people to still be infectious on day 10.
Q. What about if I’m vaccinated?
A. (AL) The people in our study were infected between September 2020-March 2021 and May-October 2021, meaning only 25 of 57 had received two vaccine doses.
Because of this we had limited statistical power to detect differences by vaccination status. In an exploratory analysis, we did find preliminary evidence that infectiousness declined somewhat faster in vaccinated cases, but more research is needed.
For now, we think it’s best to follow the same approach if you’re vaccinated.
Q. What if there’s a new variant?
A. (AL) Future variants may vary so we can’t say that this isolation approach will apply to people infected with these.
Our study looked at people infected with pre-Alpha SARS-CoV-2 virus and the Alpha and Delta variants.
While our study did not assess the Omicron variants currently circulating, we believe that what it says about infectiousness and isolation may be cautious but still applicable. This is because there is some evidence that Omicron variants have a lower viral load and shed for less time than other variants.

St augustine gran canaria: San Agustín – The Official Gran Canaria Tourist Website
San Agustin beach
San Agustin is a sunny beach that is located in the south of the island and is part of the Maspalomas resort area.
Photos
Beach description
A recreation zone 2 km long along the coast is covered with dark volcanic sand. A distinctive feature of the resort is the incredibly picturesque cliffs located on the north side. Luxurious snow-white hotels are lined up and stand in a row, on the horizon you can see the hills covered with single pine trees.
Amazingly beautiful beach has more than developed infrastructure, suitable for any tourist. The entrance to the ocean is sloping, but strong currents are not excluded. It’s just a paradise for surfers. The beach is separated from hotels, shops and cafes by a pedestrian crossing. All entertainment venues are located on the territory of hotels. Near the beach there is the only casino on the island.
You can get to the beach of San Agustin from the nearest resorts on a rocky road on foot, by bus or taxi. Transport takes tourists directly to the coast. It remains to go down the stairs to the ocean. Like most of the coasts of Gran Canaria, San Agustin offers an extensive entertainment program. Here you can enjoy water skiing, scuba diving. The most popular extreme entertainment is jumping into the ocean from a bridge.
When is it better to go
In Gran Canaria, warm winters and hot summers reign, however, the weather on the island can vary greatly depending on the chosen vacation spot. In the south, it is always warmer and drier thanks to the mountains that hold back the cold air flow, which is why the main resorts are located there. Summer – is the best time for a beach holiday in Gran Canaria.
