Where does this data come from?

Weather data for La Zenia was collected from the MERRA-2 project from NASA, which used a climate model combined with historical data from weather stations around the world to estimate what the conditions were like for every point on the Earth.

For all data based on historical data, we’ve averaged the data from the past 11 years (2010-2020). For example, for the hourly temperature at 10am, we’ve looked at the temperature at 10am on every day in October (e.g., October 1, October 2, etc. in 2010, 2011, etc.) and took the arithmetic mean. We did not smooth the data, so for example, our daily temperature line will have some randomness due to the fact that weather is random in the first place.

For example, for the hourly temperature at 10am, we’ve looked at the temperature at 10am on every day in December (e.g., December 1, December 2, etc. in 2010, 2011, etc.) and took the arithmetic mean. We did not smooth the data, so for example, our daily temperature line will have some randomness due to the fact that weather is random in the first place.

Water and air temperature in alicante. When is the best time to go on holiday in Alicante? Alicante spain water temperature today is

Alicante is a beautiful city located on the Mediterranean coast of Spain, close to Valencia and Barcelona. Many ancient sights are concentrated in Aliknat, a large one. In addition, Alicante is, first of all, the freshest gifts of the Mediterranean Sea, the gentle sun, kilometers of wide and clean beaches with soft golden sand and, of course, the warm sea. We have already written a lot about Alicante, its places of recreation and leisure on the pages of this blog, this time we want to talk about the climate in the city and the seasons when it is best to come to rest in the Spanish resort town of Alicante.

    Climate of Alicante

Alicante has a mild climate with pleasantly warm summers full of sunny days and moderately cold winters. The average air temperature in July is +28˚C, but in the midday heat it rises above 30 degrees Celsius, and in the winter months – from +10 to +13˚C.

When is the best time to go to Alicante

In Alicante and its surroundings, the sun shines for more than 300 days a year.

Winter in Alicante January-February and early March
the weather is quite warm and sunny, but for the spring March-April- and the beginning of May
characterized by a small amount of rain, and in summer, from May to October
hot weather sets in with a light sea breeze. Autumn in Alicante is also good, mostly sunny, but November
    is rainy and cloudy.

So it’s good to walk along the colorful narrow streets of old Spain and admire the sights at any time of the year, but the Mediterranean coast of Alicante is especially beautiful in the summer swimming season from April to October
. In June, July and August, thousands of tourists flock to Alicante, which is again unfavorable for lovers of a relaxing holiday, as it becomes too crowded on the streets and beaches of the city.

As for us and tested on personal experience, the ideal time for a sea holiday in Alicante is the end of August-beginning of September
months. It is at this time of the year that the water is already fully warmed up, which is called fresh milk, and the sun does not bake so much anymore. The average air temperature during this period is +26-+28 degrees Celsius, and water +26 – +28 degrees, that is, there is absolutely no discomfort when taking sun and sea baths, it is a pleasure to go into the sea and swim. However, in the midday hours the heat can rise above plus thirty degrees, but this did not spoil our vacation, during these hours we joined the true Spaniards and went to rest for a siesta.

Again, a plus, for travelers like us who do not like fuss and children’s noise, the beginning of September is a great time, schoolchildren and students have already left, and prices are slowly creeping down. Somewhere closer to September 10, there were a couple of days when the rain poured like a bucket, even blouses had to be put on. But after, we were again enveloped in the warm sun and gentle waters of the Mediterranean Sea.

Also cooler months – August and September, when the sun is not hot, are great for hiking in the sights of Alicante.

For vacationers with children whose school time starts in September, the second half of August will be the ideal time to travel to Alicante. The temperature maximum of sea water + 27- + 28 degrees has been reached and is holding, and the sun is not as harsh as in July or June.

Now let’s talk about other months for holidays in Alicante

    April
in Alicante is no longer spring, but not yet summer. That is, neither here nor there. It’s still too early to swim, but it will be the best thing to walk around the sights. The average air temperature during the day is +19-+25 degrees, at night – +14-+17 degrees, sea water maximum +16 degrees.

    May and June
in Alicante it is already warm and the sea water is gaining its degrees. But the discomfort from the temperature difference between air and water is still felt. At this time of the year, the air temperature reaches +24-+27 degrees, and the water in the Mediterranean Sea – +19-+22 degrees. It is already possible to plunge, but a full-fledged beach holiday is unlikely to succeed. In early June, sea water already warms up to +23-+25 °C, and within a month it quickly picks up the temperature to +25-+26 °C. As you can see, “fresh milk” is already coming! Here, with full confidence, we can say that the beach season is open!

During the hot summer months from around July to August
months inclusive, when the heat turns the central cities of Spain into hot stone jungles, the coast of Spain becomes an ideal vacation spot. However, on the coast, the sun is sparing be healthy. That is why these months are not very comfortable for relaxing in Alicante, you can get sunburn very easily. The air temperature reaches +31 degrees Celsius, and even rises much higher, but the sea water is a fairy tale – +26-+28 degrees.

    August in Alicante
. We talked a little about the month of August and September in Alicante above, here we will only give some general data. The average air temperature in August is +28-+30 degrees, the water in the sea is +26-+28 degrees.

    From November
months in Alicante begins the “rainy season”. However, the rainy season in Spain is a very relative concept, but still, it is at this time of the year that the city receives the most precipitation. So, depending on the year, November-December
may not be the best months to spend in this beautiful city. The average temperature during the day is +16-+20 degrees, the water in the sea is +16-+19. In early November, it is still quite possible to take a dip and catch warm sunny days.

    Time for shopping in Alicante

As for shopping in Aliknat, any time of the year is suitable for this purpose. On sales and in

Port city with a true “Spanish taste” – Alicante is located in the south-eastern part of the country, stretching along the picturesque coast of the Costa Blanca. The magnificent climate, stunning beaches, developed tourist infrastructure attract millions of tourists every year. But before you join the admirers of Alicante, find out on the Tour Calendar why the best time to visit the resort is the end of spring – the beginning of summer, as well as the first half of autumn.

    Tourist season in Alicante

Alicante is a desirable destination for many tourists, mainly from April to October. The city owes its prosperity, of course, to the delightful warm climate, natural resources and the port, which specializes in fish exports. In Alicante, guests of the city will not be bored: a wide promenade, spacious esplanades, the old El Barrio quarter, many museums, historical monuments and green parks. At night, the city plunges into a real rampant resort life: a string of restaurants, cafes, bars and nightclubs from which loud rhythmic music is heard does not stop for a minute. Well, what about without the sea and the sun? Endless golden sands and clear water – the most that neither is the tourist epicenter.

    High season

The second half of June, July and August is the high season in Alicante. The weather is amazing, the beach season has long been open, and the possibilities for recreation are endless. This is the favorite time of the British, Germans and French. You will rarely meet Russians, who, although they are present at the resort, are simply lost in all this international crowd. Summer Alicante is a tasty morsel, so airfare and hotel prices skyrocket at this time.

    Low season

Alicante returns to its usual way of life as a hardworking port city as soon as all the beaches are closed. General information

Alicante is located in the east of Spain and, together with two other provinces (Valencia and Castellón), is part of the Autonomous Community of Valencia. It borders the provinces of Murcia and Albacete to the west and southwest, Valencia to the north, and the Mediterranean Sea to the east.

Internally, the province has 141 municipalities, 26 of which have a population of over 20,000 inhabitants. In total, about two million people live in Alicante, but during the tourist season this figure grows two to three times. The main point of attraction for tourists is the resorts of the Costa Blanca (literally translated as “White Coast”). In the 21st century, this zone has taken on a leading role in the country’s tourism sector. This is one of the warmest places in Spain: off the coast Costa Blanca The Mediterranean Sea during the season can reach +29°С.

The total length of the beaches is more than 200 kilometers. Many have been awarded the Blue Flag. The northern part of the province is hilly, the southern part is flat. In addition to a beach holiday, Alicante offers tourists many other leisure activities for every taste: vacationers have at their disposal numerous nature reserves, gardens, amusement parks, lakes and waterfalls, casino water parks and many other interesting places for tourists and travelers.

      History

Since ancient times, the territory was inhabited by Iberian tribes. The first settlements appeared on Mount Benacantil (166 meters above sea level), where, over time, the fortress of Santa Barbara appeared – the main attraction and visiting card of the city of Alicante.

      Santa Barbara Fortress today

The castle was built in the 9th century by Arab conquerors who dominated most of the Iberian Peninsula at that time. The Arabs held the city for almost 400 years and called it Al-Laqant , hence the modern name of the city and province. In 1248, the fortress was recaptured by the troops of Alfonso X the Wise, who later became the king of Castile and Leon. Then the citadel got its current name: the assault coincided with the day of St. Barbara. At 169In the year 1, the fortress was shelled by French ships. And during the War of the Spanish Succession (1701-1714), the fort was under the control of the British for three years.

The flourishing of the province began in the 17th century, when maritime trade began to develop actively in this territory. And by the end of the 19th century, the territory took on leading roles in the Spanish economy.

      How to get there

You can get to Alicante by plane, train or ferry.

Alicante Airport (Aeropuerto de Alicante , ALC) is located ten kilometers from the provincial capital and is considered one of the largest in Spain. Every year it is accepted by more than 10 million travelers and tourists. Alicante Airport offers direct flights to 120 cities around the world, including from Russian cities. It is a hub for major European airlines such as Ryanair and EasyJet .

You can also get to Alicante from Murcia Airport (about 100 kilometers to the south), which opened this year.

If you want to get to Alicante from other regions of Spain, comfortable rail transport RENFE is at your service. The province is located just in the middle of the east coast of Spain: from Barcelona or Malaga you can drive to Alicante in 5-6 hours. A high-speed railway line AVE was launched from Madrid, which means “bird”. On it you can “fly” from the Spanish capital to Alicante in two hours.

Water transport runs between the port of Alicante and the Balearic Islands. More ferries ferry sails to Ibiza and Mallorca from Denia.

      Alicante climate

Alicante is famous for its warm and mild climate, some tourists consider it the best on the entire Mediterranean coast. There are no sharp drops here: the air temperature on a January day rarely drops below + 15 ° C, and in summer there is almost no suffocating heat. The beach season lasts from April to the end of October. In the hottest months, the water in the resorts warms up to +29°C. In total, Alicante has about 328 sunny and 37 rainy days a year.

      Main cities and resorts

      • Alicante

As we have already noted, Alicante is the capital and largest city of the province. In terms of population (about 330 thousand people), it ranks eleventh in Spain and second in the Valencian Community. This is a major transport hub and business center, but at the same time a popular resort. The lion’s share of tourists goes to sunbathe and swim on the central beach Postiguet (under Benacantil mountain with Santa Barbara castle).

      Playa de San Juan

View of the coastal strip of Alicante from Santa Barbara Castle

The central beach has enough alternatives: those who like a secluded and quiet atmosphere choose more remote areas. For example, PLaya de la Albufereta , from where Santa Barbara or San Juan Beach is also clearly visible. Playa de San Juan is a wide (70 meters) and long (several kilometers) coastal strip suitable for a relaxing holiday.

In addition to a beach holiday in Alicante, there is a historic district Centro Tradicional with authentic white houses over a hundred years old, a bullring, a market Mercado Central , more like a train station or a church and many other points of attraction for tourists.

Alicante has a university and many schools, including international ones. There are hospitals, a railway station and an airport, a business quarter – in a word, everything you need not only for recreation, but also for permanent residence. It is not without reason that the city causes an increased demand among Russian-speaking emigrants and is one of the leaders in terms of the number of requests for the purchase of housing.

      • Torrevieja

Torrevieja is unofficially considered the most “Russian” city in Spain. Immigrants from the countries of the former USSR settled there en masse. Some have moved to Torrevieja permanently, while others own real estate in the city and come on vacation. In Torrevieja, you can find separate entrances and even entire houses inhabited exclusively by Russian-speaking residents, as well as establishments with Russian-speaking service. By the way, a Russian school operates in Torrevieja and Alicante, where children receive secondary education in Russian, pass the OGE and the Unified State Examination. In general, there are a lot of foreign residents in the city – more than the Spaniards themselves. Basically, these are British, Germans, Scandinavians and other Europeans.

      City Center

Torrevieja has a large water sports center Real Club Nautico de Torrevieja , where you can go diving, snorkeling and other water activities. In the port of Torrevieja, many boats and yachts are “parked”, some can be rented.

      Torrevieja Yacht Port

Among the main attractions of Torrevieja is the tower Torre del Moro. It originally appeared here in the 15th century, but then it was destroyed and reconstructed. Also, many tourists, including Spaniards from all over the country, come here to look at the salt lakes of Torrevieja Laguna Salada de La Mata and Laguna Salada de Torrevieja . The latter is known for its rose water.

As for the beaches, the lion’s share of visitors to Torrevieja goes to Playa del Cura . This is a popular but short beach, where it can be difficult to find a free place during the season. There are 9 more2436 Playa de los Locos and Playa La Mata . The latter, although it belongs to La Mata, a suburb of Torrevieja, is very popular with residents of many nearby settlements, since the workload there is much lower.

      Playa La Mata

It is worth noting that the suburbs and surroundings of Torrevieja are also extremely popular with our compatriots. To the north of the city, in addition to the above-mentioned La Mata, are Guardamar del Segura, another resort not deprived of beaches, and Ciudad Quesada, completely built up with one- and two-story private houses.

And if you go south from Torrevieja, you will find yourself on the coast of Orihuela Costa. There is La Zenia, famous for its shopping center La Zenia Boulevard, privileged area Cabo Roig , located on a cape and due to its strategic position inaccessible to some foreigners, and many other attractive cities suitable for recreation, earnings on lease or permanent residence.

      • Benidorm

Benidorm is called “Spanish Las Vegas” because there are many skyscrapers and casinos. The tallest building is the 210-meter Gran Bali Hotel. On the 45th floor of the building there is an observation deck with panoramic views of the city.

Benidorm “stands” on two large beaches – Levante and Poniente – with a total length of about five kilometers. There are also several cozy bays and places for kite and windsurfing. But, first of all, the city is known for its vibrant nightlife. At night, about one hundred and fifty nightclubs, karaoke bars and other dance floors with a different selection of music open in Benidorm. There are dance floors designed for up to five thousand people. Benidorm hosts foam and pool parties and other themed parties.

However, Benidorm also has a historical part with narrow streets traditional for Spain, churches, a town square and museums. Separately, it is worth mentioning the amusement park Terra Mitica , a ten-minute drive from the city, where you can go for a whole day with your family and ride slides and carousels of different heights.

To avoid queuing at the entrance, we advise you to buy tickets to the amusement park on the official website.

In addition to the above, there are many other resorts and popular tourist areas in the province of Alicante. We will not dwell on each of them in detail – on our website there are detailed guides to key settlements that you can find:

      Natural attractions and parks

If you like not only to swim and sunbathe, but also to explore the beauties of the local flora and fauna, Alicante offers many interesting routes for this. You can visit, for example, the safari parks Terra Natura and Aitana. A special place among such establishments is occupied by Mundomar with an area of 60,000 square kilometers. More than 80 species of animals live there in natural conditions, as well as an impressive colony of birds and marine life. Not far from Benidorm lies the 8-kilometer hiking route Sierra Hellas, nearby the Algar waterfalls rustle.

There are several caves in Alicante: Cova de l’Aigua (“Water Cave”), Cueva de Las Calaveras (“Cave of the Skulls”) and Cuevas de Canelobre , where Republican soldiers hid during the Civil War.

Entrance to Cueva de Las Calaveras

There are 42 mountain peaks scattered throughout the province, the main of which is called Sierra de Aitana (1558 meters above sea level). If you take a boat from Alicante, after about 20 kilometers you will come across the rocky island of Tabarca. If you’re into fishing, you’ll love it there. Also not far from the coast are the famous islands of Columbretes, which are of volcanic origin.

Numerous cafes and restaurants in the province are ready to please visitors with the best recipes of Mediterranean cuisine. First of all, these are fish and seafood dishes: the famous paella, dorada a la plancha (grilled dorada), fried perch and tuna, shrimps, mussels, octopuses and much more.

Be sure to try traditional Spanish snacks (with beer or just for fun) — tapas and pinchos . In the heat, cold tomato gazpacho soup “goes” well. Of course, the usual meat and chicken dishes have not gone away. According to experts, Spanish cuisine is one of the key factors in the health and longevity of the local population.

      Spain, winter holidays

      1. Forum
      2. Archive
      3. Europe

Decided to share my current ‘discovery’, namely: Spain, the outskirts of Alicante, turned out to be a very suitable place for winter holidays.

We have arrived for a month and this month is very successful in terms of price / quality ratio. Plus direct Aeroflot flights from Moscow all year round.
Plus the weather is very good, according to my feelings (very sunny, and the temperature is 15-20 degrees during the day).
Plus very high quality food (fresh vegetables/fruits/fish) at extremely reasonable prices.
Plus there is where to go / walk / see.

      We didn’t know)
      Thank you!

      What specific place?

A little south of Torrevieja, near the beaches of Flamenco and La Zenia. In general, Torrevieja has a different climate in winter (mountains protect from cold air and wind and two healthy salt lakes create a cool microclimate). But the city itself makes a slightly depressing impression (for me personally), and the surroundings are beautiful!

Yes, you correctly noticed that in Spain in the Costa Blanca zone in winter almost all days are sunny and good weather.
When I watch the weather forecast here on TV, and they always show everything very emotionally with a map of all of Spain on the screen, where is the rain, where is the snow, where is the sun, so we always have sunshine from Valencia to Cartagena
It’s still good to walk in Alicante itself, for the holidays days when it was up to 25 degrees during the day, life there in winter practically does not change, unlike the towns around. It’s beautiful in Cartagena too.
For children, winter holidays last until January 8, at which time there is a huge amount of entertainment for children. Every year in Alicante, near Decathlon, they build Fieria (amusement park) for a month, there are a lot of things and the viewing circle is huge. On January 5, a cavalcade is a type of carnival procession in all cities, a 3-4 hour procession of three rabbits with sweets scattered on children. Children’s street performances are everywhere.
Sales start on January 7 , the biggest sales are only twice a year : winter sales on January 7 and summer sales on July 1 . In Massimo Duty, for example, a queue of our compatriots on the 7th and 1st lines up from 7 in the morning))) as it stood from 9, I only managed to buy a jacket)))
Of course, you can’t swim, but you can sit on the embankment with a cup of coffee or a glass of wine facing the sun, oh, how nice, you can sit in a T-shirt.
In winter, many restaurants have very good inexpensive menus of the day, with sepia (large squid) on the plancha, with octopuses and mussels.
So in my opinion this is a good alternative to winter holidays.
If you go for 2 weeks, then you can also have time to ride on ice from the mountains, 4 hours and you can get to the Sierra Nevada. There are mountain skis too. We once went one day, it’s cool from summer to winter.

Great here, just great! From December 15, it rained twice at night and on another day there was a very strong wind. The rest of the days are sunny. Not always warm, but still very nice. I have penguin children, even a one-year-old swam here in early January!
But for normal people, of course, winter is not here for water procedures

I’m also going next year, but for me it’s rare. In general, so far I have three discoveries of ‘places that are ideal for me by a combination of factors’: the surroundings of Alicante in winter, Jurmala in summer (this is with children) and Normandy from spring to autumn for romance.

How are you for May holidays?

It is already very warm in May, in the daytime up to 28. The nights are also very warm
But the sea is cold, it is not comfortable to swim yet, because the sea has not warmed up. But everyone is sunbathing and jumping along the edge of the sea.
It’s strange that the end of October the water is much warmer, I swam cold on October 25th.
At the beginning of May, the second season of strawberries, 1 euro kg
You can swim in the pools, we often go to Archena in May, to the warm outdoor pools.

Probably no worse than in Turkey in terms of weather. And for the price, it’s even cheaper in Turkey – in the south, Antalya and other regions.

This is a hotel in Turkey, and good hotels are expensive there. In Spain, these are apartments and the opportunity to travel around the area. Well, in general, Spain is much more civilized than Turkey for trips with children, if hotels are not taken into account.

Although we were in Turkey a couple of times in winter, it turned out to be much more expensive.

I have been to Turkey a couple of times in winter. The weather is not very good – hurricanes, rain, wind. I remember only a few sunny days, I went in a winter jacket anyway.

Yes, we were in Turkey for one year – it was really very windy and the storm raged for a couple of days.

In the same region of Spain, December and January are usually sunny.
