- Corona Forestal
Corona Forestal Nature Reserve or Corona Forestal Natural Park (Spanish: Parque Natural Corona Forestal) is a protected area of the island of Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain). It covers an area of 41.067.7 hectares and is considered the largest protected area in the Canary Islands. It extends at altitudes from 300 to 2718 meters above sea level, at the highest point of Alto de Guajara (Spanish: Alto de Guajara). In addition, the “Crown Forestal” is located on three ridges: “Pedro Gil” (Spanish: Pedro Gil), Abeke (Spanish: Abeque) and the Adeje Range (Spanish: Adeje).
This place is mostly forested, surrounding the Teide National Park. Its total space is included in 18 municipalities of the island of Tenerife, these are: Los Realejos, Adeje, Vilaflor, Guia de Isora, Santiago del Teide, Garachico, Icod de Los Vinos, La Orotava, La Guancha, San Juan de La Rambla, Granadilla, Arico, Fasnia, El Tanke, Guimar, Arafo, Candelaria and La Victoria de Acentejo. The park is not only a headland of treetops, but also the upper part of the ravines and canyons that make up the drainage system from the north to the south of the island.
The reserve presents to us all the series of geological processes, the last of which is the 4th series, which is associated with volcanic eruptions: Fasnia (1705), Siete Fuentes (1704) and Montaña de Las Arenas (Arafo – 1706).
The wooded area consists mainly of Canarian pine and is mostly located on the north side of the island. The remaining small part is the evergreen laurel forests of “Monteverde”, growing in the western part, in the southern enclave and partly entering the Güimar valley.
The fauna is quite diverse, there are endemic species that are unique to these places, for example, the blue finch, which is one of the symbols of the island. The great spotted woodpecker is widespread, several species of bats, among them the endemic Plecotus teneriffae. On the other side, there are moufflons and rabbits, which are sometimes hunted.
In the photos above we see beautiful landscapes with a dense pine forest, but sometimes disasters occur here in the form of strong fires, such as the one that occurred in July 2012. 1,200 hectares of Canarian pine, or the same “Crown Forestal” in the southern part of the Adeje ridge, burned out. Fortunately, pine in Tenerife tends to recover, due to its dense woody base, through which it is difficult for fire to pass. Literally in half a year, about 98% of the trees put out young green needles again, recovering from severe consequences.
History
Earlier in the pre-colonial period in the forest zone “Crown Forestal”, there was a lot of activity on the part of the ancient inhabitants of the Guanches who inhabited the island in past times. The fruits of their actions have survived to this day in the form of pastures, shelters, burial caves and various finds. Later, following the Castilian conquest, the park experienced a marked use of resources based mainly on the extraction of tree resin and timber for the maritime industry as well as housing construction. There has been deforestation. However, the intensive new afforestation policy, which continues to this day, has contributed to the fact that the vegetation cover has increased significantly.
How to get there
In order to see all the beauty of the natural park, you need to get to the road called TF-24, from which beautiful views of the northern and southern parts of the island and the trees of the park open up. Mirador de Chipeque (observation deck) is one of the most beautiful places on the island of Tenerife. Buses do not go here, you need to get there by car or order a Russian-speaking driver who will not only show this amazing site, but also other equally valuable places.
The height of Guajara ( Spanish Alto de Guajara) or Mount Guajara ( Spanish Montana de Guajara) is the highest point of the Teide National Park, if you do not take into account the Teide volcano itself with its height of 3718 m. Mountain Guajara at its peak is 2718 meters above sea level, completely volcanic origin, which began about three million years ago.
If you like hiking, then you can make an exciting journey by climbing the peak of the mountain along hiking trails. One of them starts at the Parador Hotel. The total return journey is about 13 kilometers, 4 hours 30 minutes.
Legend
The princess of the ancient inhabitants of the Guanches of Guajara, having learned about the loss of her beloved Tinguaro (Tinguaro – the main militia of the Guanches) in the battle of Aguere (Spanish Aguere – now La Laguna), climbed the mountain and wandered for a long time on it, unable to bear the loss and having lost further meaning, she threw herself into the void from the top. In honor of her, the mountain Alto de Guajara (Russian “Height of Guajara”) was named.
Chipek Lookout (Spanish: Mirador de Chipeque). Located at height 1902 meters above sea level, surrounded by coniferous forests, flowering plants and “hungry lizards”, of which there are a lot.
One of the best viewing platforms in our opinion. On a cloudless day, you can see the city of Puerto de La Cruz from here, which is on the lower right. On the top left, you can see the observatory and, of course, the Teide volcano itself. At the top right, if you are lucky, then two hills are visible in the sky – this is the island of La Palma. And the crowns of the Canary pine successfully fit into the mountain landscape, spreading along the La Orotava valley.
Coordinates: 28.373928, -16.463825
Open: 24 hours a day
How to get there: TF-24 road to the sign for Mirador.

National parks of the Canary Islands. Spain in Russian
Imagine for a moment the amazing landscape of volcanic islands with subtropical forest, unique species of animals and plants, one of the largest craters in the world and warm weather all year round. .. If that sounds attractive, then you are in luck: you can see it all with your own eyes in four national parks of Spain in the Canary Islands. Real wonders of nature within reach!
To see the Canary Islands is to discover places of incredible beauty, whether on the coast or in the mountains. There are 546 endemic plant species and 141 protected natural areas in the Canary Islands, many of which are national parks. All the islands are close to each other and have good communication between each other, so you can visit them all in no time.
Caldera de Taburiente National Park (Parque nacional de la Caldera de Taburiente)
You can start your journey on the island of La Palma, in the territory of the Caldera de Taburiente National Park (Parque nacional de la Caldera de Taburiente). There you can go into a huge crater almost to a depth of 1500 meters and take a walk in a pine forest. There are gorges over 1000 meters deep that frame waterfalls such as La Desfondada. Sounds mesmerizing, doesn’t it? You can go to the camping area and explore on your own all the hiking trails leading to the Hoya Verde and Cascada de Colores waterfalls.
You can climb high peaks, such as Roque de los Muchachos, and catch the rare mountain violet in bloom. If you’ve taken the GR 131 long-distance hiking route that runs along its peaks, you can spend the night at Punta de los Roques, a mountain retreat that is always open and stocked with essentials. The National Park of La Caldera de Taburiente has a modern visitor information center equipped with an exhibition and audio-visual room that tells about the flora, fauna, history and geology of the place.
Garajonay, La Gomera
Another beautiful National Park in the Canary Islands is Garajonay on the island of La Gomera. There you will have a unique opportunity to see the prehistoric laurel forest of Laurisilva. It is one of the last remnants of ancient subtropical forests that grew here 20 million years ago! Immerse yourself in the foggy atmosphere of this strange forest, feel the pleasure of leisurely exploring the park, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Enjoy the beauty of its paths, meet creatures such as the Canarian big-eared bat and long-eared owl, and take photos of the stunning scenery from vantage points. By the way, these bats are a prehistoric endemic species endemic to the Canary Islands (Latin name Plecotus teneriffae). There are only 500 to 1,000 of these animals left in the world, here and in Tenerife. They feed on moths and midges and are harmless to humans. Be friendly to them too.
Visit the park’s visitor information centre, which has several exhibition halls and an ethnographic museum. You can learn a lot about the island’s traditional culture and see the inside of a farmhouse, wine cellars and historic buildings.
Volcano Country – Teide National Park
Want some more options? Please! On the island of Tenerife you will find the Teide National Park. It is the largest in the Canary Islands and is also part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Feel the full power of the highest volcano in Europe, which catches the clouds at an altitude of 3718 meters above sea level. Now imagine that once, before strong eruptions, it was twice as high!
Would you like to go up there? Easily! Dress warmly, as it never gets more than +10 degrees at the top, and forward to the funicular. Visitors are allowed to climb to a height of up to 3550 meters on any day. To overcome the last 200 meters in height, you need to apply for a special permit and get a free pass.
The possibilities of this park are enormous. In addition to the wonderful landscapes that can be seen from different viewpoints, you can visit the botanical gardens and the Ethnographic Museum of Juan Evora, the original home of the last native, who traditionally was engaged in farming and herding sheep. Teide National Park has a huge number of hiking trails of varying length and complexity. You can come to the reserve by car, but it is strictly forbidden to set up a tent, so think over the way home in advance.
Timanfaya National Park, Lanzarote
Finally, head to Lanzarote to see the Timanfaya Parque Nacional. When you get there, you will feel like you have landed on the moon. This park has a strange and wonderful ancient landscape of volcanic terrain, along with “malpaises” (areas of hardened lava) created by recent eruptions.
Guides often show visitors how seawater turns into steam when it comes into contact with volcanic chimneys. You can enjoy this spectacle from various vantage points along several routes that offer a good vantage point.
Volcano Route is a fun hike where you can even walk through a volcanic chimney and see the Timanfaya craters. The island also has a Coastal Route, a great way to see the cliffs where lava once flowed into the sea. For even more adventure, you can do camel trekking on the southern slopes of the mountain.
Sports in the national parks of the Canary Islands
And if you like not only looking at stunning landscapes, but also exploring them, the national parks in the Canary Islands offer such a travel option. Alpinism and rock climbing are not common in the Canaries, but trekking is not! Put on the right shoes and go for a walk. You will be able to experience complete oneness with nature… For example, Caldera de Taburiente is known for its charming walking paths leading to attractive places in the park itself. The volcanic landscape of the archipelago makes it ideal for trekking enthusiasts – the Caldera de Taburiente and the Teide National Park have trails with different levels of difficulty.
Do you prefer water sports? Wonderful! When the heat comes, in Caldera de Taburiente you can swim in the Taburiente River and its waterfalls. Other facilities available at Garajonay include diving centers and boat cruises. You will definitely enjoy the beautiful sea approaches on these islands.
Four parks, with their amazing colors, landscapes and wonderful climate, are suitable for visiting at any time of the year, but it is best to come here in April, May, September and October. The Canary Islands are waiting for true adventure lovers, and not just adherents of an imposing beach holiday and shopping!

What to expect
Overview of the history of the island
I will pick you up by car at any convenient place and after a walk in the park I will bring you back. On the way, you will learn the most important information about the island itself and the city of Puerto de La Cruz, where Loro Parque is located. I will tell you about the indigenous population of the Guanches, who practically disappeared after the arrival of the Spaniards on the island, about the modern life of Tenerife and share tips for a comfortable stay on the island.
Amazing Loro Parque
The park has its own amazing history, which began with the passion of the founder of the park for parrots. Now there are more than 700 parrots in the park. Every day there are shows with dolphins, killer whales and fur seals; here you can see tigers and jaguars, chimpanzees and sloths, flamingos and cranes, turtles and crocodiles. There is also a cinema, an orchid garden, a museum of porcelain parrots, a playground and an Australian corner with hanging ladders and birds fluttering around you. And in the park there is a curious building built in the Thai style – one of the largest made in this style outside of Thailand.
On the way back you can stop by a fishing village, a trusted fish restaurant or any other typical Spanish restaurant where you will taste traditional local dishes.
Organizational details
Tickets to Loro Parque are paid separately. Estimated cost – 38 euros. Children’s ticket 26 euros (up to 12 years old). Children under 6 years free.

Denis is your guide in Tenerife
Conducted 747 excursions for 804 tourists
My name is Denis! I am from Voronezh. The first specialty is a physicist, the second education is economics. History, nature, travel have always been just a hobby. But once I got to the Island and from the first days of my stay I felt an irresistible craving for this tiny piece of land lost in the Atlantic Ocean. In the autumn of the same year, the whole family moved to Tenerife. I will be glad to show you the majestic Volcano, relict forests and beautiful rocks. I am sure that you will fall in love with this place and maybe come back here more than once or even stay here forever like me.

The tour was held at a good level. On the way to Loro Parque, Denis told about the island, the history of the park itself, and answered all the questions. We spent a great time in the park, watching animals and parrots, managed to attend all the shows we were going to.

Very great tour. Guide Denis arrived at the ship on time and we immediately set off. On the way, he talked very interestingly about the Canary Islands and Tenerife, because he has been living there for a long time. The very visit to Loro Park (~ 40 km from mx) was very pleasant, we managed to watch four shows: with fur seals, with parrots, with dolphins and, as the apotheosis of the visit, with killer whales. At the exit, our guide Denis offered to drive to the Teide volcano and he controlled the time to return to mx perfectly, he is an excellent driver, despite the winding mountain road, no one got sick. We enjoyed the beautiful views of the mountain nature of Tenerife, passing through the clouds and the panorama of the coast, the photos were extremely successful. To th got back on time. This tour will be of interest to pensioners, like us, and parents with adults and not very children, and sightseers without children, and as for the arrival to Teide, we consider this a great bonus to the tour.

Car rental in Fuerteventura – Localrent.
com
Car rental is the most convenient and profitable way to get to know Fuerteventura better. Bus service is not very developed here, excursion programs are designed for the average tourist, and not specifically for you, and a busy taxi trip will be expensive. A rental car is a great way to organize your unique trip around the island.
You can pick up and return the booked car directly at Fuerteventura Airport.
So you don’t have to wait for a bus, take all your fellow travelers to their hotels or spend extra money on a taxi. 10-15 minutes to receive the car and you are already rushing towards your wonderful vacation.
Rent a car on Localrent.com
Our site contains offers from various local car rental companies. Here you can easily and quickly compare all available options, choose the best car and book it right away.
The rental price is fixed at the time of booking. When picking up the car, you will only need to pay the amount indicated on the voucher.
Rent a car online in advance so that you don’t have to spend precious time looking for the right vehicle during your vacation.
How many days to rent a car in Fuerteventura
7-10. That way you can see everything you want and don’t have to rush.
And if you want to have a lazy vacation, slightly diluted with a small trip, then you can take a car for a couple of days and visit only the very best.
What documents will be needed and what kind of insurance to choose
For rent you will need:
- valid license “B” category
- passport
- bank card
What kind of insurance is needed for Fuerteventura? This island is different in that there are not a huge number of tourists here, which means there are few cars. An experienced driver who feels confident behind the wheel can opt for basic OSAGO insurance, which is included in the rental price. And if you want to make sure just in case, you can buy CASCO, Super CASCO or full coverage. A detailed description of insurance is indicated on the card of each car.
Which car is ideal for your trip
If you are satisfied with the beach near the hotel, but you need a car to go to the nearest town, then a compact subcompact will be enough.
If you want to arrange a longer trip: test different beaches, take pictures against the backdrop of dunes and rocks – choose a more comfortable and powerful car, middle class or luxury.
A crossover with a large trunk is useful if you climbed to the island for the sake of surfing.
And, of course, if you are planning a walk along the coast with a photo session, then pay attention to convertibles.
Roads
The most significant cities are connected by the FV-2 highway. Driving here is a pleasure. The road is smooth, the surface is excellent, the views are magnificent.
Secondary roads are worse, but without potholes. Be careful on serpentines and refuel with a margin: fuel consumption is higher in the mountains.
Features of traffic rules
European traffic rules, and for everything to be in order, you need to remember three basic rules:
- Never break the speed limit. Watch for speed limit road signs and obey them – there are radars along the roads.
- Do not park your car on a roadside marked with a yellow line or a yellow zigzag, even for a short time.
- Do not drive drunk.
And one more thing – on the island you can not drive a car with a bare torso, bare feet or beach slippers. All participants in the trip should not put their hands out of the car.
Parking Fuerteventura
There are not many tourists here, so it will not be difficult to find parking.
In the centers of large cities, parking is paid. You can recognize them by the blue markings. Payment at the parking meter. The check must be placed on the dashboard so that the inspector can verify that payment has been made.
Free car parks are marked with white markings.
Yellow line – parking is strictly prohibited.
Where to go by car in Fuerteventura
There are few cultural and historical sights here, as the island is sparsely populated. But you can admire nature for a long time and with taste!
Many excellent beaches , if you go swimming, you will be 100% satisfied. On local beaches, the sand is yellow, gray, black volcanic, white. Beaches with light sand are located in the northern part, in the Corralejo area. Black beach lovers will love AJUY. The visiting card of the island is Cofete beach, it is beautiful, brutal, wild and not crowded. Take a look at Playa de Castillo – a sandy bay without waves and a bunch of shells. One of the few historical curiosities is located there: Fortress San Buenaventura , an 18th century fortification built to protect against pirates.
Visit Betancuria Natural Park are low but beautiful mountains with many hiking trails and opportunities to photograph mountain goats and Maghreb squirrels. The road itself runs along intriguing “alien” landscapes.
If you want to know how natural cosmetics are made from aloe , check out Canary Aloe Vera Finca. Here you will be told and shown everything in detail. And, of course, they will offer to buy local products. But unobtrusively.
Interesting natural park Corralejo in the northeast, “little Sahara” with sand dunes, gorgeous beaches and the Montaña Roja volcano.
Don’t miss Entallada lighthouse in the east of the island. Its height is 12 meters, the facade is lined with red and white stones and faces the ocean. The panoramic view from here is worthy of a photo.
