Review of: Playa Tazacorte
Probably the best beach
Really good day at Tazacorte beach. Showers and nice restaurants with easy access. The few shops are quite expensive if you forget your beach day equipment but you’ll find necessities. The restaurants serve menu of the day (menu del dia) which is good at lunchtime and includes a drink also.

Worth a short visit
An interesting small museum. Lots of information boards but needs to be updated as it only goes up to early 2000.

Another Mirador
This is 1 thing La Palma can do well, Miradors.
On it’s own this 1 is very good, but compared to others it’s a bit tame.
But still worth checking out, even if only to tick it off the list.Written July 17, 2021

Knowledgeable crew – great experience
My biggest concern was the weather. Mid Atlantic can get pretty rough. We picked a pretty calm day so the trip went very smoothly. Lots of information from the crew as to what we may or may not see. No guarantees as to the quality or quantity of the sightings, these are wild animals in their natural surroundings. We saw a family of beaked whales from a distance, pilot wales and bottle nosed dolphins. Then a run along the coast on the way back. Very enjoyable day. Our trip did not include refreshments but there were drinks and snacks to purchase (at normal prices – no rip off). Leave an email address and they will send photos to you at no extra cost – good p. r.

Review of: Blue Magma Diving La Palma
Great diving on the island of La Palma
I went diving with BlueMagma on the island of La Palma and they were great!
The equipment was in very good shape and everything was well organized.
On that day they had a theory course I belive so they went diving with just me! I really appreciated that they went diving even though it was just one person.
It was in the middle of Covid so we met at the dive spot which was in the little village of LaBombilla and they brough all the equipment to the site. Lluis was a great dive guide!
I can really recommend these guys, pls support them, they are doing a great job!Written October 17, 2021

Review of: Statue Of Saint Michael The Archangel
In honour of the Town and Island’s Patron Saint
Saturday 13th August and we visited the Town of Tazacorte on the western side of the Island.
This large sculpture and fountain is one of the main features of the town. It stands in a busy roundabout outside the Town Hall.
It depicts Saint Michael the Archangel standing over Satan, who is laying on a pile of rocks at feet of the Archangel.
Saint Michael is holding a spear which is pointing directly at Satan. In the scriptures he is described as the leader of heaven’s forces in the triumph over the powers of evil.
The statue stands on a circular stone plinth, which is supported by a tiled circular column. This all contained within an octagonal shaped, colourfully tiled inside, reservoir with a number of water jets. The outside wall of the bowl is also covered in tiles. When we visited the fountain was not working, so not looking it’s best.
St Michael the Archangel is the Patron Saint of Tazacorte as well as the Island of La Palma. The Saint’s feast day is celebrated annually on the 29th September. Although there are celebrations in the a Town throughout the month.
The statue of Saint Michael the Archangel was inaugurated 29th. September 2007.

Charming
Couples
Lovely little coastal village with so much charm.
We only stopped for an hour or so, to eat our packed lunch & enjoy the atmosphere of the place.
Plenty of eateries & a long black sand beach.
Some very nice pretty original looking buildings, unfortunately a few modern looking ones which look out of place.
One of those places where modern doesn’t belong.

Lovely beach and charming town.
We took a transfer bus from Los Cancejos (45mins) to this place with a varied character. The beach was long and uncrowded backed by cafes and restaurants, At the other end of the bay was a large marina with trip boats for dolphin/whale watching. Some impressive architecture with the recent huge sea defence constructions.
Our favourite part however was the town above the beach/marina on the cliff top. It was a 20 min. uphill walk but well worthwhile with impressive seviews and again a large selection of cafes and bars. The main square was being impressively renovated on our visit. Walking through the back streets was very interesting with buildings and small squares hundreds of years old. Lanes too narrow for cars in lots of places with nicely renovated and decorated houses.
Easily enough to keep you busy for the day.

Lazy, relaxing, black sands
If you are looking for a lazy town and somewhere to get away from it all then this is the place. A lovely port town with some excellent fish restaurants. Too many pizzerias, but fine if you love pizza! Great gin bars, would highly recommend “Ferret’s & Marten’s”, with a small but great gin bar round the corner called “The Gin bar”. Worth staying at for some hikes and beach activities. Not a lot of shops, just food and drink!

Beautiful black sands and dynamic cliff backdrop
Friends
So so happy to have found Tazacorte. A true hidden gem, stunning clean waters, beautiful black sands and an incredible and dynamic back drop with epic cliff faces and the mountains in the distance (especially whilst we were there as it was -3’c up at the top of the mountains and 24’c at the beach!).
We were also serenaded each visit by talented buskers along the stretch of cafes and restaurants.
Plenty of places to eat and drink also we thoroughly enjoyed visiting this beach – which we ended up doing every day or night despite having an AirB’n’B almost 30 minutes away.
Be prepared to pay for sunloungers.

We went here because we had some time before our dolphin excursion. A lot of buildings and even poverty in my opinion. The beach was being worked on with big machinery, bad timing in this case but would not recommend.

Great Beach / Beautiful Cliffs
Solo
I only stopped at the beach for a short visit, but were I to return to La Palma I would consider staying there instead of in Las Palmas. The beach is big and wide – black sand – and has towering cliffs on both ends. A rather dramatic beach setting in my opinion.

La Palma
Also known as the “Isla Bonita”, this quietly beautiful island with its clear skies, magnificent landscape and rich maritime history rarely fails to enthral visitors. Home to the first Biosphere Reserve in the Canary Islands, a status that now incorporates the entire island, La Palma is far from a commercial tourist destination.
Read more about La Palma
“Tazacorte is one of our favourite harbours: it is quiet, clean, and safe and the staff is really friendly. The facilities with their luxurious bathrooms surprised us. The yard also offers great facilities for a long stay on the hard. Coming from Europe, the route is a perfect for a comfortable beam reach down to La Palma.”
Oliver Solanas – 8Islas, Co-author of “Cruising Guide to the Canary Islands”
“Puerto Tazacorte has comfortable finger berths and is clean and well maintained, with a friendly atmosphere on the pontoons. After a long and perhaps tiring trip down to the Canaries, there is really nothing better than a shower in these bathrooms (like showering in your own house!) and a drink in the marina chiringuito (beach bar) overlooking the sea.”
Diego de Miguel – Sailing Living Lab
“We sailed to La Palma, looking for a quiet marina and after having read a lot about its beauty. Our first plan was to spend a month at Puerto Tazacorte – but like others in the marina who have found the island and the people amazing, we all ended up extending our stay to 6 months or more! The marina is well protected, the staff is super-friendly and we enjoyed great wifi.
If you are looking for a quiet and friendly marina with a relaxing atmosphere, Tazacorte comes highly recommended!”

Tazacorte La Palma – Canary Islands Info
Vast banana plantations cloak much of Tazacorte, which is why the borough is synonymous to this crop. In fact, they even have a banana museum, the only one of its kind in Europe. Be that as it may, there is more than meets the eye even if it is the smallest municipality in La Palma.
At only 12 km², Tazacorte boast of a picturesque shoreline and two historical villages. This erstwhile unexplored treasure, blessed with the finest weather on the islands, did not remain hidden for long, though.
A Quick History Lesson
The subjugation of La Palma started on the shores of what is now Tazacorte towards the end of the 15th Century. Natives met the arrival of the Castilians with fury, and soon, bloody battles ensued. It was in one of those bloodbaths that Tazo, the Guanches king, met his untimely death. Since then, the site of the fallen king was called Corte del Rey Tazo (the cutting down of King Tazo). Later, it became Tazacorte.
A Colorful Village Amidst the Banana Plantation in La Palma – ©nulinukas
Following the successful conquest, the conquistadors established a feudal structure on the island. Soon enough, Tazacorte’s local economy flourished because of its perfect location. The beautiful cerulean waters had an abundant aquatic life. Likewise, the fertile land was also ideal for crop and plant growth. From Sugarcane fields, it evolved to banana plantations. To this day, it remains the primary source of livelihood.
Tazacorte and Its Two Villages
In most of the Canaries, villages have whitewashed or monochrome houses. In contrast, the sight of colorful houses in Tazacorte with traditional Canarian architecture is a visual treat. Its natural black volcanic sand accentuates the expansive blue sea. And the quaint little village set amidst banana plantations, while idyllic, is charming.
Playa y Puerto de Tazacorte
This seaside wonder is ideal for visitors who prefer a laid-back beach vacation. In contrast to the many party beaches in the Canary Islands, Playa de Tazacorte is serene and natural. No artificial sands, fountains, or coves to entice more tourists. The village is set on a ravine between the western tip of Caldera de Taburiente (Punta Candelaria) and a towering plateau. With an onyx sand beach, azure sea, and nearby geologic formations, there are more than enough for tourists to keep coming.
What Makes It Unique
This exceptional playa is the most visited for a few reasons. Because most other beaches have pebbly sands, its powdery volcanic black sand stands out as a favorite among the locals and tourists. It is also the longest beach in La Palma, as well as the only official nudist beach in the island. Not only is it a bit secluded but it also offers a magnificent view of the Atlantic Ocean and the harbor.
The Laid-Back Beach
Playa de Tazacorte has a very relaxing atmosphere from the village to its shore. It rarely gets crowded and, when it does, it’s unlike the other tourist resorts. Protected by the breakwater that shields it from the rough Atlantic sea, it is also safe.
A popular activity for tourists is to lie on the soft dark sand and catch up with their favorite authors. There’s also more than enough space for families to make the biggest sand castles ever. Kids can play and have fun on the tame waters anytime. Finally, as the day ends, the sky gives way to a spectacular sunset.

Water Sports and Recreation
Although lounging by the beach is great, the dazzling sea can be very inviting. In Tazacorte, there is an array of options for everyone. Beneath the sea, the underwater world beckons. The diverse aquatic life calls out to snorkelers and scuba divers to explore its otherworldy realm. On the surface, fun and adventure awaits those who go kayaking, ride the cute Volkswagen Beetle pedalos or banana boas. As an option, operators can organize fishing expeditions or dolphin and whale watching trips. Guests can also go cruising on a boat with submarine vision.
Walking on the Puerto
Sauntering on the promenade is a must-do in Tazacorte as it offers some of the most incredible views on the island. Vibrant colors juxtaposed with man-made structures enhance the charms of the natural surroundings. Experience nature in its pristine state with huge volcanic rocks and ebony beach. Lining the dull concrete harbor are boats of many hues seeming like a bouquet of beautiful flowers. Wherever one sets eyes on, there is something to feast on in Playa y Puerto de Tazacorte.
A Relaxing Stroll on the Promenade in Tazacorte – ©herraez
El Pueblo de Tazacorte
Going inland towards El Pueblo de Tazacorte is 1.5 km of seemingly endless banana plantations. Like a secret unfolding, the winding road opens to a quaint little village no one thought would be there. Much of the town’s history is centered in this part of the land, and so is its current population. It doesn’t make the village less appealing though as the old is in a perfect orchestra with the new.
San Miguel Arcángel Church
La Palma owes its first church to the same man who conquered it, Alonso Fernández de Lugo. As the most powerful man on the island and an ardent follower of St. Michael the Archangel, he spared no effort in proclaiming his faith. At the end of the 15th Century, the saint became the island’s patron, and its first church was also named after him.
Although the church has undergone restorations and expansion, it still shows the grace and beauty of its old age. Travelers will not be disappointed as the original design was kept and followed. Furthermore, the old painting of Saint Michael Archangel spearing the devil in the mouth is still in there.

Casa Massieu Van Dalle Monteverde y Ponte
Built in the 17th Century, the enormous mansion of Nicolás Massieu Van Dalle and his wife Ángela de Monteverde y Ponte remains to be a symbol of exquisite taste and opulence. Intricately carved from wood, the large main door is the first thing that greets guests into the property. On the side entrance towards the next building, the lintel boasts the family coat of arms in pure marble.
The magnificent house is now owned by the governing body of the island, the Insular Cabildo of La Palma. It is also under the management of the town’s local government. Although no longer the host of extravagant banquets amongst the affluent, it’s now the venue of many activities that exhibit the culture of Tazacorte.
The Banana Museum
Banana plantations occupy much of Tazacorte. As such, almost half of its residents work in these plantations. Because of that, they opened the only-one-of-its-kind banana museum in Europe. To get there, guests will have to drive through what seems to be a never-ending road amidst banana fields.
In this facility, visitors learn everything there is to know about it and its rich history. At the end of the tour, they are sure to understand why the fruit is a serious deal in this part of the island. Furthermore, a “mojo” (Canarian sauce) museum is soon to open beside it. Tourists who love Canarian dishes shouldn’t miss it.
Tourist Information Center
To maximize the visit, guests should visit the tourist information center. Here, the local staff can give information on the sights and things to do in Tazacorte.

How to Get There
The public transport system of La Palma is reliable, and it is also the cheapest way to go around the island. From Los Llanos de Aridane, Transporte La Palma bus line 207 goes to Tazacorte every day. For regular working days, it leaves at exactly 08:45, 09:45, 11:45, 13:45, 16:45, 18:45 and 20:45. On weekends and holidays, it leaves at 08:45, 10:45, 12:45, 14:45, 16:45 and 20:45.
Coming from Santa Cruz de la Palma, there’s no direct bus to Tazacorte. As an option, tourists may take Transporte La Palma bus line 300 to Los Llanos de Aridane and then take bus line 207. It departs at 08:30, 11:30, 14:30 and 15:30 on regular working days, and 08:00, 11:00, 14:00, 16:00 and 19:00 during weekends and holidays.
Tourists may also hire a car, and there’s plenty of car hire companies in the bustling towns. Some hotels and resorts also have their car hire service. If coming from the capital, take Take LP-3 to Camino Los Palomares then left to LP-2. For those coming from Los Llanos de Aridane, take LP-2. It’s only a 10-minute drive away.

Where to Stay
Travelers are bound to be fond of their stay in Tazacorte. As most accommodations are near a beach or on top of a hill, finding one with stunning views won’t be hard at all. Most apartments have swimming pools and a fully-functioning kitchen. But for tourists who prefer hotels, they have but one choice within the town. No worries though, because it’s a masterpiece of a hotel. And, no matter where they decide to stay, the town itself is sure to wow.
Adults-Only Hotel
Without a doubt, Hotel Hacienda De Abajo is the best and most beautiful hotel in Tazacorte. This adults-only (over 16 years old) hotel is only a 12-minute walk away from the beach. Not only is its location convenient, but guests also rave about its magnificent and individually decorated grandiose rooms. They also have a restaurant that serves Canarian cuisine with international influences, free spa, heated outdoor pool and a garden filled with exotic plants. To experience living like royalty, this is the place. Book Now!
Casa Bella is an adults-only apartment complex that is only a 10-minute drive from the beach. They offer spacious one-bedroom and double bedroom apartments. Although not located on the beach or somewhere near it, the property has a beautiful outdoor swimming pool for guests to enjoy. Moreover, it is popular amongst couples who are absolutely in love with the ocean or mountain views from the private balconies.
Family Friendly
The family-friendly Apartamentos Finca La Cruz is a large property. Thus, it’s perfect for families with kids because there’s ample space for them to play in. It’s also recommended for a large group of friends as they have 1, 2 and 5-bedroom apartments which can be combined if they want to. Also, since the apartment complex sits on top of a hill, it has fantastic views of the sea and the mountain. It’s also just a 5-minute drive from the beach.
Pet Friendly
For travelers who believe that “home is where your pet is”, Casa Jorsam comes highly recommended. It’s a two-bedroom house with two single beds each so that it can accommodate a group of up to four people. While it is only a 9-minute walk away from the beach, it also has a swimming pool. This country home is a cozy place for guests and their furry friends.
The Art of Eating
When it comes to food, more is expected from a seaside resort than anywhere else. First of all, seafood cannot be less than perfect. As the primary (or at least one of) produce of a coastal town, anything less than excellent is an embarrassment. Second, the restaurant itself must be stunning. Being in a paradise means the restaurant must be at par. If it’s not, then why is there? Third, tourists are from everywhere. Thus, there should be an array of different cuisines, and restaurant workers should be able to converse in more than just their mother tongue. Fourth, everything should taste better. Because prices are usually higher in tourist spots, people have higher expectations too.
It’s a tough business, and those who stand out deserve to be called Tazacorte’s best
Restaurante Las Norias
The Restaurante Las Norias is one of the most popular restaurants in Tazacorte, and it’s fantastic. In fact, many tourists and locals drive to dine there despite plenty of other options. Their must-try include any of their BBQ meats, mixed plate, steak, brochettes, crayfish ravioli, garlic prawns, sirloin in mushroom sauce, banana soup, rosemary potatoes, and pimientos de Padron paired with gin and tonics or wine. Restaurante Las Norias is the place for unforgettable Mediterranean and European dishes.
Playa Mont Restaurant
The best seafood restaurant in Playa y Puerto de Tazacorte is without a doubt Playa Mont Restaurant. They serve light but flavorful seafood in Mediterranean, Spanish, and European style. Their most popular dishes are garlic prawns, fresh fish, fried squid, fish with Canarian potatoes and mojo verde, papas arrugadas with mojo, and alfonsiño.
Restaurante El Sitio
If there were pageants for restaurant dishes in Tazacorte, Restaurante El Sitio would win the top prize every time. Their whole menu is beautiful and sumptuous, but the most popular ones are the salmon tartare, red tuna tartare, steak tartare, suckling pig, banana soup, octopus with spices, guacamole with banana chips, and duck foie. The local wines they served are also amazing but run out fast because of the high demand. If it’s available, it’s a must-try. For a superb dining experience for both the eyes and the mouth, Restaurante El Sitio is the best choice.
Carpe Diem Restaurant
The name best describes what tourists must do when they spot this restaurant – seize the day and the opportunity to dine in it. Try their lobster bisque, fresh anchovies, tuna, lamb ragu, steak, sea bass, stuffed chicken, sea bream, gazpacho, or Thai chicken for mains. If feeling a little bit more adventurous, guests can also go for rabbit lasagne or chicken livers. For dessert, their coffee pudding and creme brulee will certainly please anyone’s sweet palate. This restaurant is always fully booked, so make a reservation to truly seize the day.
A Small Town that Makes a Big Impression
Most tourists come here looking forward to having fun, but they always end up with more. Often leaving with luggage full of unforgettable experiences and happy memories, they remember passing by thousands upon thousands of banana trees before the seeing the charming little pueblo. It’s reminiscent of Alice falling down a rabbit hole into to a dreamlike wonderland. Likewise, it was strange, and then it was beautiful. They remember the serene and vibrant colors of the coastal village, and most importantly, they remember to come back to Tazacorte.

Unforgetable experience!! The catamaran is very nice and has underwater vision. We saw a lot of shearwaters, 2 species of dolphins and some tropical whales. The very cool route, we entered La Cueva Bonita and passed very close to Porís de Candelaria. The ship’s staff very attentive and pleasant, the explanations of 10.
Great trip
We had nice weather and a friendly crew who always provided us with small snacks. First we drove along the coast, later out into the sea and saw dolphins. At a small stop we were able to jump into the water and were pulled by a boat sitting on a “banana” through the water. The tour lasted 2 3/4 hours. Overall, a very nice trip.
Nice crew, good service. An impressive experience.
We felt safe and very well looked after by the crew on the “troubled” sea. Wonderful to drive through the waves like this and to see the island from a different perspective. It was a bit of bad luck that we didn’t see any animals. But we got the generous offer to join the tour for free. Very sympathic.

HOTEL HACIENDA DE ABAJO~The first emblematic hotel in the Canary Islands
Tourism Medal for Sustainability and Quality~Hispania Nostra Award for Best Practices in the Conservation of Cultural and Natural Heritage
The first emblematic hotel in the Canary Islands
Nestled in the historic quarter of Tazacorte on the island of La Palma, the most important agricultural area in the Canary Islands, the Hotel Hacienda de Abajo is the result of the meticulous restoration of a seventeenth-century sugar plantation estate. What’s more, its uniqueness has been officially honoured by its classification as the first emblematic hotel in the Canary Islands.
The hotel is surrounded by a landscape of lush and rich vegetation, embraced by a coastline lapped by an ocean of pure and intensely blue waters and blessed with a warm and sunny climate with profusely starry nights. And here in this blissful environment, a series of buildings that were the hub of prosperous trade between Flanders, Andalusia and the West Indies, today featuring valuable artistic collections and splendid gardens of botanical rarities, open their doors to give the most enthusiastic welcome to you, the guest.
Welcome to YOUR HACIENDA
History, character and art to make you feel as special as our hotel
It was in Tazacorte where the Castilian conquerors landed in 1492 and built the first settlements in the Aridane Valley, as this was the location of the most fertile lands, the Tazacorte River and La Caldera, the only watercourse, and a coastline that provided accessible communications with overseas. Sugarcane soon became the main crop of the Hacienda de Abajo, located in Tazacorte, which is the first, the oldest, the richest and the most productive sugar plantation in La Palma, as evidenced by Professor Jesús Pérez Morera.

Tazacorte
On the west coast of the green island (as the locals call La Palma), one of the main resort areas is Tazacorte. It has everything for a great holiday: an equipped beach, a lot of cafes where you can try local cuisine (which the island is famous for), shops to bring gifts and souvenirs. Lovers of attractions will also find entertainment.
Puerto Calero
If you want peace and quiet on vacation, Puerto Calero will provide it to the fullest. However, for such a pleasure you will have to pay a price above the average – the resort belongs to the prestigious, elite holiday destinations.
Santa Cruz de la Palma
The resort town of Santa Cruz de la Palma is considered one of the most beautiful in the Canaries. It attracts with a harmonious combination of modernity and history. The capital of the island, La Palma, is a picturesque corner of Spain that leaves no one indifferent. Having been here once, you will want to come back again.
Playa Blanca
The Canary Islands have long been among tourists and not only popular. Not in vain, many people have the question: “where would you like to relax?” the answer would be “in the Canaries”. Lanzarote is one of the islands of the archipelago. So if the dream is the Canary Islands, then welcome to one of the resorts of Lanzarote – Playa Blanca.
Puerto Naos
The island of La Palma is very simply called by the locals “Beautiful Island”. And he fully justifies this name. The resorts of the island are stunning with magnificent landscapes. The small village of Puerto Naos, which is the largest resort on the island, is no exception.
Costa Teguise
There is probably no better resort for outdoor activities than Costa Teguise in Lanzarote. Here everything is conducive to this: the features of the natural landscape, the weather, and the developed infrastructure. And palaces, monasteries and other buildings preserved from the Middle Ages will make your stay here at least interesting.
Arenal
Arenal is a small Majorcan resort, widely popular among German youth. The development of the resort began in the 60s of the 20th century. and since then little has changed in his appearance. The same old city hotels, the same bars and cafes with dubious fast food, the complete lack of infrastructure for children are more suitable for those who are in the mood for a vacation with a fun nightlife, and not for a quiet family vacation. If your goal is to “break away” on vacation and you are not picky about details, then choose the Arenal resort. But if you value quiet at night, decency and child-friendliness, you might be better off looking for other resorts in more suitable locations.
Alcudia
The ancient town of Alcudia in Mallorca is a modern tourist resort suitable for a relaxing holiday with the family. The kids will enjoy the clean and shallow beach, the water park, and parents will appreciate the decent atmosphere of the city and historical sights. The town itself cannot be called quiet due to the large number of tourists who come to see it. The streets can often be crowded with tourists of different nationalities.
Magaluf
Magaluf or the Ibiza branch of Mallorca is a youth resort popular with its party life. Young British, Scandinavians and, more recently, Russians come here to “break away” and hang out. If you have a big company, thirsty for night parties, or you decide to celebrate a bachelor party unforgettably, then you are definitely here.
Ciutadella
The second largest city in Menorca, Ciutadella was once the capital of the island. With the beginning of British rule in the 18th century. The capital was moved to Mahon. The old town is interesting for its cute medieval streets and buildings in the Baroque and Gothic styles, Renaissance palaces and aristocratic atmosphere. It is also the most “festive” city in which most of the fiestas and festivities are held.
Mahon
The capital of the island of Menorca, the city of Mahon, is known for its huge and at the same time picturesque natural port. Lovely houses are spread out on a rock, which offers a bewitching view of the bay, a real treasure of the island.
Playa d’en Bossa
Playa d’en Bossa is a lively resort in Spain, which is one of the main epicenters of nightlife on the island of Ibiza. Mostly young people rest here, so the resort has a lot of various entertainments, including the possibility of practicing active sports.
San Antonio
So it’s time for holidays and beach holidays. The dream of young people in such a period of time is, without a doubt, Ibiza, with its unstoppable drive of night parties, beautiful sunsets and warm south seas. Ibiza is divided into several areas, each of which has a certain type of tourist features. Today, the subject of our small study will be San Antonio.
Ibiza
Ibiza is a piece of paradise on Earth, it is not without reason that this resort attracts the attention of tourists from all over the world. Today this resort is known for its chic youth parties and beautiful, as if pristine beaches of the Mediterranean.
Santa Eulalia del Rio
Santa Eulalia del Rio is the third largest resort in Ibiza, one of the Balearic Islands, which belong to Spain. The local resorts are diverse.
Port de San Miguel
Many people think that you can spend a lot of money in Ibiza. However, the resort of Port de San Miguel proves otherwise. There are several inexpensive hotels here, and several attractions that will be of interest to both children and adults. So, what is the history of the resort of Port de San Miguel, and where you can relax here.
Talamanca
The magnificent horseshoe-shaped beach of the Spanish resort of Talamanca in the cozy bay of the island of Ibiza Cala Talamanca hospitably welcomes tourists from different countries of Europe and all over the world all year round.
Morro Jable
More sedate than its northern competitor Corralejo, the resort of Morro Jable, perhaps, can even be called almost German – in the local bars, shops and hotels, along with Spanish, German is also spoken, and most of the vacationers come from from Germany. There is only one attraction here, but it is precisely for the sake of it that tens of thousands of tourists strive to get here every year – this is its picturesque beach, in which the sandy coast and the rocky coast are organically combined.
Playa Matorral
Fuerteventura is undoubtedly one of the most heavenly islands among all the Canaries combined. And Playa Matorral among its resorts, perhaps, deserves the title of one of the best. Why? Perhaps the most delicate sand of the beach plays a role in this, walking on which is simply an incredible pleasure? Or maybe the reason for this special charm radiated by the place is the wonderful sunsets that you are witnessing here? One way or another, Playa Matorral is definitely impressive.
Costa Calma
Here the sea seems to be brighter and more colorful, and nature is unexpectedly green, juicy and lush, which is so unlike this Canarian island. This is how the small town of Costa Calma, located in the southeast of Fuerteventura, where the Jandia peninsula begins, greets its guests effectively.
El Cotillo
This tiny town in the northwest of Fuerteventura is no different from the nearby resorts of the Canary Island – so, a quiet fishing village, located around a small harbor. However, in recent years, El Cotillo is gaining more and more popularity among surfers and those who like to relax among untouched nature and watch the sunset.
Caleta de Fuste
This town is considered the third largest in Fuerteventura. However, this does not detract from the dignity of Caleta de Fuste – it can rightfully be called one of the main resorts of the island.
Corralejo
Dozens of charters arrive daily from England, Germany and other European countries to this windswept island. It is called Fuerteventura (translated from Spanish “fuerte” – strong, “el viento” – wind). However, despite the wind, although not strong, but blowing constantly, those who have been here at least once prefer this cute provincial town of Corralejo to other resorts of the Canary Islands.
Playa del Inglés
The city of Playa del Inglés is considered one of the most youthful and most “party” resorts in the Canary Islands: the moderate cost of nightclubs and hotels, the relatively low prices in shops and restaurants attract young people from different interests and different orientations.
Puerto Rico
Once upon a time it was believed that this place at the mouth of the Gran Canaria valley is the sunniest, the brightest. This is how the popular family beach of Puerto Rico appeared on the south coast of the island.
Puerto de Mogan
Bright white two-story houses with multi-colored window frames that stand out against their background, many palm trees and colorful flowers growing right on the streets, numerous (and I must say, very excellent) restaurants and bars, and – impregnable cliffs surrounding all this picturesque beauty. And also – tunnels similar to canals that connected the harbor and the fishing port: for these tunnels, the inhabitants of the island called the town “Canarian Venice”. You will see all this if you decide to relax in the resort of Puerto de Mogan, the westernmost town of the Costa Mogan, on the southern coast of Gran Canaria.
Maspalomas
Maspalomas is a 17 km Spanish resort. along the coastline on the island of Gran Canaria (one of the Canary Islands). The total area is about 2000 hectares. Considered one of the most popular holiday destinations among Europeans, it is famous for its luxurious hotels and villas, rich flora and fauna, and breathtaking landscapes. The Maspalpomas tourist area unites several resorts: Baia Feliz, Playa del Aguila, Playa del Inglés, San Augustin, Meloneras and Campo International.
San Agustin
The world-famous Spanish resort of San Agustin is located on the island of Gran Canaria, which is part of the Canary Islands. The resort is located in its southern part, close to the noisy resort areas of Playa del Ingles and Maspalomas, where the resort and entertainment infrastructure is better developed, there are many restaurants, bars with discos, shops and various entertainment centers. In San Agustin there are also shops, restaurants and bars, but, nevertheless, it attracts more attention to tourists and vacationers who want a calm and quiet holiday, there are all conditions for families with children.
Santa Susanna
In a beautiful location, surrounded by forests, there is another resort of the Costa del Maresme – Santa Susanna. Its streets are spread over seven hills, so from almost every corner of the city there are amazing views of the surroundings. The resort of Santa Susanna itself is unusually green – there are several parks here (Mirador, Colomer, Riera), outlandish trees grow around, tropical flowers of unprecedented beauty bloom. In addition, many seek to get to Santa Susanna also because of the healing mineral and thermal springs.
La Pineda
In a picturesque place near Tarragona, a small pretty town is located, surrounded by bright plains, rocky bays, cozy lagoons and pine parks, which gave it its name. Its promenade is the longest in all of Catalonia, and the resort itself is considered the second most visited after Salou.
Beach:
sandy
Oropesa del Mar
It would seem – a typical Mediterranean town, which are many on this coast. However, after visiting Oropesa del Mar, you are likely to change your mind about this resort.
Cullera
Approximately forty kilometers south of Valencia, where the Jucar River flows into the Mediterranean Sea, there is a small but very peculiar town – Cullera. Mountains turning blue in the distance and orange groves surrounding Cullera attract the eye, and the beaches seem softer and softer than in many other resorts in Spain.
Dedicated
Peñiscola
Have you ever been to orange paradise? If not, go to Peñiscola. However, this resort is not only orange groves: it is not for nothing that Peñiscola is considered the highlight of the Costa del Azaar: palm alleys and serene beaches, the unique beauty of the surroundings and the majestic castle on the cliff make the town one of the most charming on the coast.

Spanish holidays. Part 2 – Blooming La Palma. — 11 answers
Continued. .. Start here.
The next morning we were to fly to La Palma with a transfer in Madrid. The choice of the island was not accidental. Other names for the island are La Isla Bonita or La Isla Verde (that is, Beautiful Island and Green Island). And you need to visit the most beautiful and greenest island of the Canary archipelago only in the most beautiful time of the year – in spring!
Sleepy Lyalya waiting for the flight: “And where did my parents take me this time?…”
Gloomy morning of the flight.
And after 5 hours we were already on the best beach of La Palma – Tazacorte.
The choice of Tazacorta was also not accidental. The municipality of Tazacorte occupies a section of the western coast of the island of La Palma at the exit of the most grandiose gorge of the Caldera de Taburiente – the Gorge of Sorrows and its right slope. It has the largest number of sunny days in a year, and almost always good weather. About 14 square miles of territory is planted mainly with bananas.
All beaches of the island with black volcanic sand. Tasacorte is no exception.
Lyalya briskly went for a swim, but the cold water stopped her. Compared to autumn and even winter, the water in the Canary Islands is even colder in March!
We decided on the first day to limit ourselves to a walk on the ocean. No matter how hard I tried, I could not overpower myself, the water was very invigorating)
This time we decided to take an apartment not by the ocean, but in the upper part of the city, in the mountains. Were very pleased with the choice. There were such stunning sunsets overlooking the port of Tazacorte and banana plantations every evening!
From the roof of the house one could see the peak of La Palma Roque de los Muchachos with a height of 2387m. Of course, this is not Teide, but it is impressive.
The next day was devoted only to the sea, sun and sand! No trips / excursions and other entertainment for parents)
Typical coastline of La Palma. Huge waves crashed on the shore.
Port. A rocky mountain road leads to the port of Tazacorte and the beach. Despite the fact that Tazacorte is a small town, the port is very impressive. Most ocean excursions depart from here.
Probably the simplest and funniest sculpture of all the Canaries)
40004 A view of the village of Puerto de Tazacorte and the chic beach of the same name opened from the wall.
Satisfied child)
9000 The cozy town of Tazacorte with small picturesque squares, narrow streets decorated with flowers, located on the high right slope of the ravine of Sorrow. The town is saturated with tranquility, the aroma of sea salt, bananas and flowers.
Tazacorte is an amazingly colorful and vibrant town with 16th and 17th century mansions.
Balconies, my favorite balconies)
The main attraction of the city is the Iglesia de San Miguel Arcangel – a church built in the 16th century.
Near the church there was a small gazebo-alley. The columns are lined with wonderful mosaics.
Ocean view from the upper city.
Tazacorte in the rays of the setting sun.
Suitcase steps)
Main square of Tazacorte. There are cafes, administration, police and a large supermarket.
Columns decorated with mosaics. In the Canary Islands, they love her very much and create real masterpieces from her.
Such a contrast – one tree threw off its leaves before winter, and next to it stands green and in flowers.
One day we went on a sea safari. We did not know how our daughter would feel on the boat, whether she would be rocked or not. But she pleasantly surprised us – she slept through the whole trip!!!
View of Tazacorte from the ocean.
The coastline looks like a layer cake.
We feed seagulls and fish.
The captain tried to take us to the grotto, but the tide and strong waves prevented us.
On La Palma there are also such secluded settlements. From the nearest road you can walk to them in 40-50 minutes through the mountains. As the captain said, people live there only during the warm period of the year – in summer and autumn. In many houses there is no light! We would love to spend a few days there, but without Lyalya)
Another secluded settlement. It is “more civilized” than the first! There are solar panels)
Banana plantations.
Sea turtle.
And after 2 hours of traveling across the ocean, we finally met dolphins! Everyone was running around the boat like children and taking pictures of them)
After several hundred photos of dolphins from all angles, we returned to the port. Lyalya woke up)
Upper Tazacorte from the ocean.
After the sea trip, we went to the mountains to meet the sunset.
The next morning we drove to Puerto Naos.
A lighthouse surrounded by banana plantations.
Puerto Naos beach is the longest on the island of La Palma. But we didn’t manage to swim – a red flag hung, there were strong waves, and we didn’t see any daredevils.
Along the beach there is a small picturesque promenade with many restaurants, cafes and small shops. Since we didn’t manage to swim – we came off in stores
In the afternoon we went to explore the western part of the island.
In the evening a banana truck stopped under our balcony. For the first time I saw how they were being transported)
The next day we had to move to the eastern part of the island. Continued here.

Two months – from 19September – the volcanic eruption on the island of Palma, which is part of the Canary archipelago, does not stop. Many of its farmers have lost their homes and agricultural equipment. Their farms are destroyed by lava or covered with a layer of ash. Finding themselves in a difficult situation, people are trying, first of all, to save the source of their livelihood – banana plantations, which in some cases turned out to be cut off from the owners by lava flows. At the same time, the islanders are counting on help from the state, without which it is impossible to quickly restore normal life on Palma.
To work on a landing craft
Shortly before dawn, several hundred people gather daily in the small port of Tazacorte, on the western coast of the island. Someone arrives on a tractor that survived the volcanic eruption, someone brings a couple of donkeys – indispensable for working on plantations. On the horizon looms the silhouette of the large landing ship “Castile” of the Spanish Navy. It is he who owns 4 amphibious assault boats, which several times a day, overcoming a distance of 5 nautical miles, deliver farmers, their equipment and animals to the plantations. After all, you can’t get to them by land – the lava destroyed the roads.
“We are grateful to the military,” says Vicente Gutiérrez, 40, a resident of Los Llanos, whom DW was able to reach by phone. He owns a banana plantation in an area called Puerto Naos – 5 hectares. The lava spared her, but the ash damaged the trees and ruined the crops. “Bananas have lost their presentation, so they are not suitable for sale,” the farmer complains. According to him, the plantation will have to be cleared of ashes and the irrigation system will be restored.

Life on the volcano
The farmer said that he had lost his house and almost all his possessions, including his car and farm equipment. Only chickens, a dog and a cat were saved. Vicente settled with his wife and two children in a neighboring village – in the house of his father-in-law. He works on the plantation for 12 hours – everything has to be done by hand. People from unaffected areas of the island help with food and clothing. True, sometimes there are interruptions in the delivery of fresh products. Well, those who have no relatives have to live where they have to. Some were lucky – the municipalities placed them in hotels, others – in anticipation of new housing – spend the night in cars, tents or even in caves in the mountains.
Vicente does not know when compensation for damage from the elements will come from the state. Well, the money is urgently needed – without them the economy cannot be raised. After all, the farmer in any case intends to stay on the island, to work on the land inherited from his parents. In the worst situation, those whose lava destroyed not only housing, but also plantations. “Some are waiting for compensation money – to move to other regions,” the farmer summed up.
Scale of the disaster
According to data requested by DW from the regional government of the Canary Archipelago, 7000 people had to be evacuated from the area of the volcanic eruption. Of these, more than 2,000 were left homeless – their homes were completely destroyed. One resident died trying to save his property. The towns of Los Llanos, El Paso and the municipality of Tazarote were particularly affected. Damage to the island’s main source of income – plantations, which before the eruption produced 350 tons of bananas daily, is estimated at 100 million euros. 158 hectares burned with lava, 300 suffered from ash.

“Financial options for the archipelago are limited,” an administration document says. After all, the tourism industry – another profitable industry in the region – “due to the pandemic, it practically does not bring income to the budget. ” So money can only be spent on solving urgent problems: on desalination plants to restore the plantation irrigation system, to pay for hotels and purchase frame houses for the victims. With regard to financial assistance from the central government of Spain, it “has not yet been received.”
Millions of aid, but so far only on paper
Meanwhile, from official reports published on the website of the Spanish government, it is clear that the Special Plan for the Restoration of Palma, adopted back in October, provides for the allocation of 225 million euros from the state budget. They will go to housing construction, infrastructure repairs and subsidies to non-agricultural enterprises. At the same time, 19 million are allocated to help farms, 5 million – to social services. In addition, persons and enterprises receiving state assistance are exempt from paying taxes.
