(full name in Russian: Playa de las Americas) is the largest resort in the south of Tenerife and the most popular resort on the island, and throughout the archipelago. The area for the resort was not chosen by chance. The mountain range that crosses the island keeps out the cold trade winds blowing from the northeast, making Las Americas protected from the cold, the winds, and most importantly from the rain and generally cloudy weather.
This location makes it possible to bask on the beach and sunbathe all year round. Sunbathe, but don’t swim. Some tourist brochures write about year-round bathing bliss, I think they exaggerate. We were in Las Americas in March and from my own experience I can say that you can swim, but bliss is not for everyone, it’s pretty cool.
The photographs in this section show that there are a lot of people on the beach, and only a few in the water. Of course, not counting the divers, but they are dressed accordingly.
However, they did not deceive us with the sun – we got burned on the first day.

Las Americas was built in the 70-80s of the last century on a completely bare section of the southern coast. They built an airport twenty kilometers away, poured sandy beaches, and the resort boom began. And this is no coincidence, since it has an excellent combination of quality beaches, developed infrastructure and hotels of various levels. Although we did not live in Playa de Las America, we were regular visitors. After all, the entire resort life of the island is concentrated in it. There is a large selection of restaurants, cafes, many supermarkets, shopping centers and small shops. There are many tour agencies in this resort. And most importantly, it is easy to get to any city on the island from here.
Playa de Las Americas is located at a distance of 20 km. and 80 km. from the island’s capital city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife.
Like many resort towns, it is represented by leisure facilities and hotel complexes. On the one hand, Las Americas borders (along Mount Chayofita), and on the other – with (along the riverbed of the Barranco de Troya). True, this border is very arbitrary, because walking along the coast, you will not notice it. Currently, all three resorts have practically merged into one large tourist destination.
Las Americas has been actively developing since the 70s of the last century. It is hard to imagine, but then there was nothing for tourists. The first Gran Tenerife hotel was built in 1971. Since then, it has been updated and improved many times. It still functions and if you wish, you can spend your vacation in it. Gradually, Las Americas expanded, new infrastructure appeared. The appearance of the airport in the south of Tenerife breathed new strength into the resort.
Unlike other resorts in Las Americas, you can meet Russian tourists. Local entrepreneurs are also adapting to this factor and offer a menu in Russian in cafes.
Some of them even have Russian-speaking employees. And in hotels there are still few people who know Russian. So basic knowledge of English will come in handy, or, as an option, an indispensable Google translator.
Las Americas has a very beautiful and well-equipped embankment. Let’s walk around a little and see the surroundings. On the embankment you can see a lot of people running.

There is almost no precipitation, the weather is good and sunny. Many swim and sunbathe. But in winter the ocean cools down to 19degrees. For those who like to swim in hot water, it will not be very comfortable to swim. Pools come to the rescue, which are in almost every hotel. And here sunburn lays down in the winter well. The peak season in Las Americas is July-August, when the holiday season begins for many Europeans. If you don’t want crowds, it’s best to avoid these months.
Attractions and attractions
There are no historical attractions in the young resort, but there are entertainments for every taste and budget. Las Americas is considered the most party place on the island, as many nightclubs and bars are concentrated here.
