We base the humidity comfort level on the dew point, as it determines whether perspiration will evaporate from the skin, thereby cooling the body. Lower dew points feel drier and higher dew points feel more humid. Unlike temperature, which typically varies significantly between night and day, dew point tends to change more slowly, so while the temperature may drop at night, a muggy day is typically followed by a muggy night.

The chance that a given day will be muggy in Playa de las Américas is rapidly increasing during July, rising from 15% to 32% over the course of the month.

For reference, on August 31, the muggiest day of the year, there are muggy conditions 45% of the time, while on January 14, the least muggy day of the year, there are muggy conditions 0% of the time.

All data relating to the Sun’s position (e.g., sunrise and sunset) are computed using astronomical formulas from the book, Astronomical Algorithms 2nd Edition , by Jean Meeus.

All other weather data, including cloud cover, precipitation, wind speed and direction, and solar flux, come from NASA’s MERRA-2 Modern-Era Retrospective Analysis . This reanalysis combines a variety of wide-area measurements in a state-of-the-art global meteorological model to reconstruct the hourly history of weather throughout the world on a 50-kilometer grid.

Land Use data comes from the Global Land Cover SHARE database , published by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.

Elevation data comes from the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) , published by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

Names, locations, and time zones of places and some airports come from the GeoNames Geographical Database .

Time zones for airports and weather stations are provided by AskGeo.com .

Disclaimer

The information on this site is provided as is, without any assurances as to its accuracy or suitability for any purpose. Weather data is prone to errors, outages, and other defects. We assume no responsibility for any decisions made on the basis of the content presented on this site.

We draw particular cautious attention to our reliance on the MERRA-2 model-based reconstructions for a number of important data series. While having the tremendous advantages of temporal and spatial completeness, these reconstructions: (1) are based on computer models that may have model-based errors, (2) are coarsely sampled on a 50 km grid and are therefore unable to reconstruct the local variations of many microclimates, and (3) have particular difficulty with the weather in some coastal areas, especially small islands.

We further caution that our travel scores are only as good as the data that underpin them, that weather conditions at any given location and time are unpredictable and variable, and that the definition of the scores reflects a particular set of preferences that may not agree with those of any particular reader.

Las Americas, Tenerife

On the south coast of the Spanish island of Tenerife, the resort of Playa de las Americas is one of the most popular holiday destinations among Europeans in the Canary Islands. Every year it attracts a huge number of tourists who are attracted by a well-developed infrastructure, convenient location and almost year-round excellent weather.

What exactly can be seen in the largest resort of Tenerife Las Americas, you will learn from this article.

Weather in Las Americas, Tenerife

Compared to the northern part of the island, the southern part is perfect for the beach resorts located here. The mountain range separating Tenerife protects the south from the cold trade winds of the northeast, so the weather is excellent here: the water temperature near Las Americas in Tenerife does not drop below +18˚С all year round, it is moderately hot here in summer (+28˚С), and in winter – + 22˚С. Rains are very rare and do not have a prolonged character.

Hotels in Las Americas, Tenerife

There is a huge number of hotels, different in terms of comfort: from economy class to VIP apartments. In addition, it should also be taken into account that the location of the chosen housing should correspond to your type of vacation, for this you need to choose the right area. In the western part of the town it is quiet and calm, so it is perfect for a family vacation. In the central one, it is noisy and crowded around the clock, since the main part of discos and clubs are located here, mainly young people rest here. And in the east of the resort – all establishments do not work until the morning, during the day and in the evening people have fun, and at night they rest.

Basically, relatively new hotels for middle-income tourists are located here. Among them are:

  • Europe Villa Cortes 5 * – the most comfortable of all available on the coast;
  • Gran Tinerfe 4 * – the oldest hotel in the resort, built the very first on the coast in 1971, where the popular casino among vacationers is located.
  • Sir Anthony Hotel Tenerife 5 * – in addition to well-equipped rooms, there is everything for a good rest: an indoor beach, a huge outdoor pool, excursions, tennis courts and a golf course.

Beaches of Las Americas, Tenerife

In total, on 15 km of the coast of the resort there are 8 beaches protected from ocean waves by stone blocks that are located in the water. Mostly on the beaches there is black volcanic sand, but there are places with yellow sugar brought from the desert (mostly closed, related to a particular hotel). All of them are clean, well-equipped and absolutely free to visit, which is an added bonus.

Along the coast there are a large number of cafes and restaurants, and from the port of Puerto Colon you can go for boat trips, diving excursions or deep sea fishing, and you can also go surfing here.

Attractions in Playa de las Americas

Besides beaches and entertainment, there is more to see on the island: Orlov Park, where you can see representatives of tropical flora and fauna;

  • the ancient castle “San Miguel” – where you can go back to the Middle Ages and take part in real knight tournaments;
  • Mount Teide or snow mountain, you can ride the funicular to its top and then return to the Atlantic Ocean;
  • ethnographic park “Pyramids of Guimar” – located around the mysterious ritual building of the ancient inhabitants of Tenerife Guanches, very similar to the stepped pyramid.
  • Golden Mile – Las Americas

Located in the east of Playa de Las Americas, Avenida is called the Golden Mile. It has everything for a wonderful holiday and shopping: decent shops, restaurants, singing fountains and even the Pyramid of Arona concert hall, made in antique style.

Going on vacation to Playa de las Americas, you will get a lot of impressions and positive emotions.

Tenerife Island – photo, attractions, weather, what to see in Tenerife Island on the map

This archipelago was known long before the discovery of America by Columbus, but none of the European powers until 1492 expressed a desire to annex it to their territory. And only when it became clear that the Canary Islands were the last point where, on the way to the New World, it was possible to replenish the reserves of water, food and fuel, which was used by the local pine, the Spanish crown hastened to declare the islands its property.

The first object of conquest in the archipelago was the island of La Palma, where Columbus stopped. After some time, the Spaniards landed on Tenerife. The local population – the Guanches – unlike the Auaritas, the natives of La Palma, had serious resistance to the Spaniards, who were poorly oriented on the island. The position of the invaders was so precarious that in the war against the Guanches they resorted to the help of the inhabitants of neighboring islands, promising them land in the fertile north of Tenerife as a reward. The Guanches resisted fiercely for three years and probably would have fought for many more years, but they were crippled by a plague brought from the mainland.

The surviving natives eventually completely assimilated with the descendants of the conquerors and new settlers from Europe and America. The culture of the people was dissolved in the darkness of time. Today we know almost nothing about the civilization of the Guanches, their origin is unknown and how they got to Tenerife. The combination of European facial features of the Guanches and primitive material culture has given rise to many hypotheses.

The Guanches sacrificed domestic animals to the Teide volcano, they owned the secrets of mummification, the procedure of which is similar to that used by the Incas. At 19In 90, Thor Heyerdahl drew attention to small structures – the so-called Guimar pyramids, built of volcanic tuff. The famous traveler suggested that the stepped buildings, the height of the largest of which does not exceed 5 meters, were created by the Guanches for some religious purposes. However, many other researchers did not agree with Heyerdahl, being sure that the pyramids were built much later than the Spanish conquest by local peasants who cleared land for arable land.

One of the few legacies of the Guanches that have survived to this day is the ancient art of playing sea shells as wind instruments. You can see such performances during the carnival in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the capital of the island.

Even more surprising is the “whistling language” that the Guanches used when they needed to convey a message over long distances. The natives developed a whole sound “alphabet”, and even nightingales could envy their trills. In an unequal struggle with the Spaniards, the Guanches often used this language at the most important moments. The natives could communicate with each other even under the invaders, absolutely not afraid that the Spaniards would be able to unravel this code. By the middle of the 20th century, the whistling language was almost completely lost, and only its inclusion in the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list saved the unique art from oblivion.

    RARE SPECIES

In the very center of the island of Tenerife, on the edge of the huge Las Cañadas caldera, measuring 12 by 17 kilometers, rises the majestic peak of Teide (3718 meters). In calm weather, a funicular will take you to a height of 3500 meters, from where a breathtaking view of the surroundings opens. A cold piercing wind always blows at the top, sometimes knocking you off your feet, so you can’t do without warm clothes on the mountain.

From above it can be seen that the Ukanca valley, located at the foot of the Teide, like a layer cake, consists of many layers: rocks of bizarre shapes rise above the frozen lava and compressed ashes of different colors, and clouds reign even higher, slowly creeping over the ridge and descending into the valley.

You can climb to the very top of the volcano only with a special permit, which is issued in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

More than 120 species of rare plants grow at the foot of the mountain, many of which are found only here. When the flowering period begins on the island, lasting from late April to late June, the slopes and valleys take turns turning into different colors of the rainbow, and the most popular route at this time is walking through the almond groves. Admiring the delicate pink color of the almond trees in Tenerife is perhaps as important an event for the locals as cherry blossoms for the Japanese.

According to the international classification, Teide belongs to dormant volcanoes, however, the emissions of hydrogen sulfide that have become more frequent in recent years, leaving yellow-green spots on the slopes of the mountain, alarm specialists. In 2006, volcanologists even expected an eruption, but the alarm turned out to be false.

Teide divides Tenerife into two worlds: a dry, hot south and a fertile north, a world-famous tourist center and a necklace of original towns and villages scattered along the northern coast of the island.

Located in the south, Playa de Las Americas is the main tourist area of the island. It is crowded at any time of the day, numerous clubs and discos, restaurants and pubs, shows and casinos are open at night. And during the day, vacationers are waiting for a variety of water activities for every taste – scooter safaris and boat trips, dolphin and whale watching, fishing or the steep water slides of the Siam Park amusement park.

In the strait between Tenerife and the island of La Gomera, there are fish farms where sea bass and sea bream are grown. Products from these farms are supplied to local shops and restaurants. In the same waters, you can meet dolphins and their relatives, five-meter short-finned pilot whales, at any time of the year. Animals that live here permanently are very sociable and allow people to approach them at a fairly short distance. If you’re lucky, you can see other ocean inhabitants: fin whales, reaching a length of 25 meters, and their “smaller” relatives: sperm whales, sei whales, killer whales.

In summer, during a boat trip, you will almost certainly meet a sea turtle. Five species of these reptiles live in the local waters, the largest of which, the leatherback turtle, reaches two meters in length. Of course, there are few chances to see such a beauty, but you will definitely get acquainted with turtles of a more modest size. For several minutes, a graceful tortilla will accompany your boat, after which, waving goodbye with its paws, it will go into the depths and “dissolve” in the dark blue water.

On the rocky shores, in addition to birds, hippies also “nest”. They partly plundered the fence of an abandoned banana plantation for themselves into “cottages” and, it seems, are absolutely satisfied with life in such Spartan conditions.

    DRAGON TREE AND LEAF STATUE

But no matter how beautiful the south of Tenerife is, its northern part is no worse, and maybe even better. It is no coincidence that the first resort areas on the island were founded here, and the best beach in Tenerife, according to local residents, is also located in the north – not far from Santa Cruz de Tenerife. It is called Las Teresitas, and the sand for it was specially delivered from the Sahara.
With the development of trade relations in the XVIII-XIX centuries, the British began to come here to treat diseases of the respiratory system. The inhabitants of Foggy Albion, despite tense relations with Spain, were also the main consumers of Tenerife’s Malvasia wine, which was massively exported to Europe already in the 16th century – Shakespeare even wrote about it.
A real tourist boom began here in the 1960s. At first, tourists from the mainland of Spain came here, arriving at the northern airport, then the only one in Tenerife – 2.5-3 hours of flight, and you are on the island of eternal spring. Then came the turn of other Europeans.

Everything changed in the early 1980s, when an airport was built on the south coast, not far from the place where the fashionable resort of Playa de Las Americas is now located, capable of receiving and departing aircraft at any time of the day and in almost any weather. . Most flights began to arrive at the new air harbor, and few of the visitors were satisfied with the prospect of getting from the airport to the hotel for more than two hours.

The northern airport is still functioning today, but due to frequent fogs and difficult terrain, it still has a whole list of restrictions on servicing airliners. Therefore, the amazing cities of La Orotava, La Laguna, Icod de Los Vinos, Puerto de la Cruz, Garachico, Buenavista del Norte, lying on the northern coast of Tenerife, are unfairly ignored.
According to legend, the beauty of the valley in which La Orotava is located impressed the German scientist Alexander von Humboldt so much when he stopped here on his way back from America that the famous naturalist burst into tears from surging feelings. The historic center of La Orotava is a large open-air museum. Perhaps nowhere else in the Canaries can you see so many ancient buildings with richly carved wooden balconies made of Canarian pine in one place. The drawings are never repeated – wood carvers from Tenerife were famous throughout Europe. A classic example of the art of local craftsmen is graceful and airy, like lace, Casa de los Balcones (House with balconies). In the museum under its roof, you can see examples of calado openwork embroidery, another traditional Tenerife craft. The result of long and painstaking work are amazing scarves, napkins and tablecloths.

The main attraction of the town of Icod de los Vinos is an ancient dragon tree. These trees grow very slowly and live a very long time. So, in the church books of La Laguna there are records of a tree, which at the time of death in the 19th century was six thousand years old, and the diameter of the trunk at its base was 15 meters. The specimen in Icod de los Vinos is said to be two thousand years old, making it one of the oldest trees of this species in the world.

The local church has a unique statue of Jesus Christ made from … corn leaves. Parishioners are rightfully proud of this relic: usually sculptures made of grass do not last long, but this artifact recently celebrated its 500th anniversary.

San Cristobal de la Laguna (more commonly referred to simply as La Laguna), a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is the unofficial title of the cultural capital of the island. In the monumental architecture of La Laguna, the imprint of imperial chic is noticeable. There is a law here that prohibits the owners of historic buildings from renovating them with modern materials, so many, without exaggeration, masterpieces of colonial architecture are gradually falling into disrepair. A few years ago, the Bishop’s Palace, built in the 17th century, burned down due to a short circuit in a rotten electrical wiring. Not only the unique building was damaged by fire and water, but also several other buildings in the neighborhood, including a library with ancient folios. Some of the priceless books were lost forever.

Corpus Christi – Corpus Christi, traditional for Catholic Spain – is celebrated here with special glamor. In the days leading up to the celebrations, all citizens, young and old, decorate the streets with intricate patterns of flowers, seeds and multi-colored sand, and not necessarily on a religious theme. So, next to the face of the Savior there may be a cheerful cow rolling on a rainbow.

In the north-east of the island, a small territory has survived, which escaped the fate of being scorched by red-hot lava as a result of the destructive eruptions of Teide and its “little brother” Chineiro. In the Anaga National Park, you can visit the evergreen laurel forest of laurisilva, which has not changed at all since the time when the Canary Islands broke away from the north of the African continent. The places are fantastically beautiful, however, due to constant 100% humidity, visibility here is no more than 20 meters most of the time.

Carefully look and perceive with all your senses – this is what you will be required to do first of all in the Canary Islands. Whether it’s the narrow and winding road to Masca, where a minibus barely passes, or the cliffs of Los Gigantes, breaking off from a half-kilometer height into the ocean; the carnival in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, which is not inferior to the Brazilian one, or the windsurfer competition in El Medano, where strong trade winds never subside for a second; an inconspicuous tavern in Taganan, where, according to everyone, the best fish dishes are prepared, or a luxurious restaurant overlooking the ocean sunset. In Tenerife, every day lived is rich in events, the significance of which is sometimes not immediately appreciated. Understanding comes a little later, and this magical feeling beckons to the islands lost in the Atlantic again and again.

Its southern and northern sides, separated from each other by a mountain range, are so strikingly different, as if they are in different climatic zones. The mountains do not let the cold east trade winds pass, protecting the south of the island (a popular resort area) from the surprises of nature. But at the same time, the north of the island is covered with dense greenery, and the south is more like an arid desert.

    But this is superfluous

    How to get there

Tenerife is the only one of all the Canary Islands where you can fly from Russia by direct flight. Regular charter flights to Reina Sofia International Airport are operated by VIM-Avia and S7, which will take 7.5 hours in the air. With a transplant in Europe, it will, of course, take longer. At the same time, the price is approximately the same for both a direct flight and a connecting flight: an average of 170-480 EUR.

From the airport to Las Americas (about 11 km) can be reached by bus, the ticket price is 2-3 EUR. Other resorts can also be reached by bus: to Puerto de la Cruz – 9-15 EUR; to Santa Cruz – 8-13 EUR; to Los Gigantes – 5-6 EUR.

Near Playa de las Americas, in Los Cristianos, there is a small port from where ships depart from the island of Tenerife with the neighboring islands of Gomera and Gran Canaria. Most sea excursions also start at this port.

    Hotels Las Americas

Almost all resort hotels were built relatively recently and are distinguished by the highest level of technical equipment, comfort and service. The oldest hotel here is Gran Tinerfe built in 1971 years. Which, nevertheless, is still considered a very worthy “four”.

Couples with children and lovers of silence should settle in the western part of the resort, which is considered more quiet and respectable.

Beaches and activities in Las Americas

Eight sandy beaches of the resort are protected from waves by stone barriers and allow you to comfortably swim in the ocean throughout the year. The beaches on Las Americas are covered with fine black volcanic sand. They are all free, but different beach “equipment” like an umbrella or an awning will cost quite well. From the port of Puerto Colon, yachts and catamarans depart for boat trips, and small specially equipped boats go for deep-sea fishing.

Aqualand, famous throughout the Canaries, is located in the very center of Las Americas. The entire range of water attractions for visitors of all ages is presented here, plus numerous swimming pools, sunbathing areas, cafes, etc. infrastructure. In 2008, another water park was built – Siam Park, modern, well-equipped, comfortable.

    Maps of Las Americas

The nightlife in Playa de las Americas is amazingly diverse. There are many discos, clubs and bars for every taste, a lot of shows, as well as night restaurants with a variety of cuisine – both local and foreign.

Things to do and attractions in Las Americas

The medieval castle of San Miguel is not only a magnificent example of a fortification during the Spanish rule, but also the cultural center of the island. Here you can see with your own eyes a medieval knight’s tournament. Nearby, the traditional carnival “Fantasy Canaria” is held with a picturesque folklore and dance show.

Amazonia Park is a walk through the Brazilian jungle in miniature. A huge number of Brazilian butterflies and hummingbirds are collected here. No less interesting is the Cactus Park, which presents a huge variety of cacti.

    Panorama of Las Americas

Wildlife lovers will certainly enjoy the famous Park of the Eagles located near Las Americas. This is a real tropical jungle among lifeless rocks, inhabited by lions, orangutans, tigers, crocodiles, ostriches and various reptiles, as well as a “wild” tribe of Africans who dance their dances all day long to the roar of drums. And every day from 12:00 to 16:00, a show of trained eagles is held in the park, which gave the name to the park itself.

After looking at the local beauty, from Las Americas you can go to admire other sights of the island: in the northern part of the island there is a complex of artificial lakes with sea water “Lago Martianes” in the city of Puerto de la Cruz, a thousand-year-old tree “Dragon” in the village of Icod- de los Vinos. The famous “landmark” of Tenerife is the picturesque Loro Park.

    Weather in Las Americas

In the north of Tenerife, temperatures are a few degrees cooler, the ocean is choppy and rainfall is unpredictable, while the south is sunbathing and prosperous. The southern part of the island is dominated by a warm tropical climate, with temperatures ranging from +21°C to +30°C throughout the year. The area is dry and there is little rainfall.

But it is here that you can catch the sun that has fled to the other side of the globe when winter comes in Russia. In January and February, on this fertile coast, ideal conditions for swimming in the sea and sunbathing.

Playa de las Amerikas is the largest and most popular resort in the south of Tenerife. Every year, thousands of travelers choose it for their vacation. And this is no coincidence, since it has an excellent combination of quality beaches, developed infrastructure and hotels of various levels. How to organize your vacation in Las Americas, let’s try to figure it out in this article.

Although we did not live in Playa de Las America, we were regular visitors. After all, the entire resort life of the island is concentrated in it. There is a large selection of restaurants, cafes, many supermarkets, shopping centers and small shops. There are many tour agencies in this resort. And most importantly, it is easy to get to any city on the island from here.

Playa de Las Americas is located at a distance of 20 km. and 80 km. from the island’s capital city of Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Like many resort towns, it is represented by leisure facilities and hotel complexes. On the one hand, Las Americas borders (along Mount Chayofita), and on the other – with (along the riverbed of the Barranco de Troya). True, this border is very arbitrary, because walking along the coast, you will not notice it. Currently, all three resorts have practically merged into one large tourist destination.

Las Americas has been actively developing since the 70s of the last century. It is hard to imagine, but then there was nothing for tourists. The first Gran Tenerife hotel was built in 1971. Since then, it has been updated and improved many times. It still functions and if you wish, you can spend your vacation in it. Gradually, Las Americas expanded, new infrastructure appeared. The appearance of the airport in the south of Tenerife breathed new strength into the resort.

Unlike other resorts in Las Americas, you can meet Russian tourists. Local entrepreneurs are also adapting to this factor and offer a menu in Russian in cafes. Some of them even have Russian-speaking employees. And in hotels there are still few people who know Russian. So basic knowledge of English will come in handy, or, as an option, an indispensable Google translator.

Las Americas has a very beautiful and well-equipped promenade. Let’s walk around a little and see the surroundings. On the embankment you can see a lot of people running.

While walking, look around. Pay attention to the creative sculpture in the photo above. There are also located right along the sea. They enjoy well-deserved attention from photographers.

Another creative embodiment of thought. Benches are installed along the embankment, you can sit down and take a break from a walk.

And this already looks like a stone statue created by nature itself. She reminds me of a lion.

Children’s playgrounds can also be found along the embankment.

The Las Americas promenade is a cozy place. It is pleasant to walk here, breathe the sea air and admire the beautiful Canary landscapes.

    weather

Las Americas is considered a year-round resort. But in winter it is not at all hot here. The air temperature averages 20-23 degrees, the sun is much hotter. There is almost no precipitation, the weather is good and sunny. Many swim and sunbathe. But in winter the ocean cools down to 19degrees. For those who like to swim in hot water, it will not be very comfortable to swim. Pools come to the rescue, which are in almost every hotel. And here sunburn lays down in the winter well. The peak season in Las Americas is July-August, when the holiday season begins for many Europeans. If you don’t want crowds, it’s best to avoid these months.

    Attractions and Attractions

There are no historical attractions in the young resort, but there are entertainments for every taste and budget. Las Americas is considered the most party place on the island, as many nightclubs and bars are concentrated here. Therefore, it is here that young people often go on vacation. The noisiest places are located near hotels and. But older people prefer quieter resorts.

The main entertainment of the resort can be safely attributed:

    1. with a variety of water slides and attractions.
    2. More relaxed Aqualand, more suitable for children.
    3. The medieval castle of San Miguel, where you can go on a tour.

    Nearby theme parks:

    1. Jungle park
    2. Monkey park
    3. Camel park (camel park)

On the beach you can ride a jet ski or a banana, and in the evening listen to live music in one of the restaurants. Part of the vacation can be taken to. You can get to know some of it yourself.

    Shopping

Shoppers should visit Avenida de Las Americas, where Parque Santiago II and Safari shopping centers are located. This avenue is also called the “golden mile” because all the world’s brands are represented on it.

And after shopping, you can get a vivid impression in the concert hall “Pyramid of Arona”, created in antique style, or have dinner in one of the cafes. In the evening, the avenue is illuminated by the lights of a singing fountain. But do not tune in to a grand show, like in Barcelona, everything is simple here.

And the last beach, Playa del Camison (Playa del Caminson is located closer to Los Cristianos. It is protected on both sides by bulk dams, so the ocean is calm, without waves. The beach is covered with yellow sand brought from the Sahara. This beach is often chosen by families with children, who have a rest at the resort.Lovers who do not sit still can ride on water modes of transport.0003

    Map

On the map below you will find the main attractions and beaches of Tenerife. The map will be helpful when planning your trip.

Playa de Las Americas is a resort town in the southwestern part of the island. Here began one of the sea routes to America, hence the name. However, looking at Las Americas today, the name is more likely to be associated with contemporary American culture. Everything is very chic and on a grand scale: Hard Rock Cafe, a theater that looks more like a casino in Las Vegas, shopping centers sparkling with Rolexes from their windows, golf and tennis fields … Even on the streets you can hear more English (and Russian) speech – in a word, there is no Spanish flavor at all.

The city was founded from almost nothing in the 1970s, when tourism began to flourish in Tenerife. In the same years, the Aqualand water park appeared, and the Loro Zoo on the other side of the island was already actively attracting tourists from all over the world. Las Americas was built mainly for commercial purposes, and it is clearly felt. The place was chosen well, because in this part of the island the sun always shines and carefree resort life goes on as usual, while clouds frown in the north and in the mountains, driving tourists away from the beach. On the southern coast, it is warm in winter and not too hot in summer: the temperature in winter is not lower than 20 ° C, in summer it is not higher than 30 ° C.

The main attraction is, of course, the beach, where the azure wave caresses the shore. You can swim on this stretch of coast from March to November, the ocean is quite calm, shallow near the coast, there are no big waves here, as in neighboring El Medano, so you can safely stay in Las Americas even with small children. Particularly courageous Russians swim in winter. Although the ocean is always cool and warms up to no more than 21 ° C, it is still more comfortable to swim in spring and summer.

There are many beaches here – eight, velvety sand is brought here from the Sahara desert for the delight of tourist eyes. Particularly good are Del Camison beach near five-star hotels, Troya beach, where young people come to smoothly move to the bars of the famous Las Veronicas neighborhood in the evening, as well as La Pinta, a family beach where there are many children happily flopping down from inflatable slides in water. In general, the beaches of Las Americas are quite quiet. It is dominated by people of mature age, mainly from England and Germany, there are few street vendors. The noisiest companies on the beach are locals, not crazed tourists, as, for example, in Barcelona. Theft is common, as in other tourist places in Spain, the “lucky man” who fell asleep on the beach takes everything that is bad.

Tenerife South Airport is only 20 kilometers from Las Americas, which is very convenient. A taxi ride will cost 10-12 euros, by bus – only 3 euros.

Las Americas is the largest resort of the Canary Islands, while delighting with affordable prices. There are several 4- and 5-star hotels here, which often make great deals, as they have been strongly pressed by private traders who rent apartments and villas via the Internet. As a result, in a good hotel you can stay at almost the same prices as in apartments, but get European service in addition.

In the center of the city there is a huge park covering an area of almost 42 square meters. km. You will certainly enjoy the collection of tropical plants brought here from all over the world. In Las Americas, such a typically American sport as golf is developed. Anyone can learn how to hit the ball. And the beautiful half of humanity can, in the meantime, “shop” to its fullest! Numerous shopping centers offer a wide range of clothing, shoes and accessories: from basic firms Zara, Mango and Desigual to luxury brands from around the world – Escada, Prada, D&G and others. And all this is sold without VAT, as the Canary Islands are a free economic zone.

There is no shortage of cafes and bars in Las Americas: every evening you can have lunch and dinner in a new place. But do not look for tapas (they are not available in the Canary Islands in principle) or paella (it is better not to take it here). In Las Americas, all establishments offer a standard set of dishes at standard prices that are served in any resort in the world: pizza, pasta, burgers with fries, steaks. All food in restaurants is of high quality and inexpensive. There are also several Chinese restaurants and the ubiquitous fast food. Without trying Canarian cuisine, you can’t leave Tenerife, so we advise you to look for small restaurants away from the beach or even in other cities, for example, in Icod de los Vinos, where you can also buy the famous local Malvasia wine, or in the port the city of Los Gigantes with its good fish

Playa de las Americas is a popular tourist resort located on the southwest coast of Tenerife. The resort was built in the 1960s and stretches west of Costa Adeje. The sun almost all year round and many sandy beaches (sand was brought specially from Africa) attract thousands of tourists here. In addition, duty-free shops, restaurants with excellent seafood dishes, an aqua park and the prestigious resort of Los Cristianos in the neighborhood are at the service of vacationers.

Playa de las Americas is primarily known for its sandy beaches – there are six of them in the city, each offering plenty of opportunities for water sports, including jet skiing and scuba diving. The main beach has calm waters, great for families with children, while Playa de Guincho is a favorite spot for surfers and windsurfers. In addition, Playa de las Americas is considered the capital of parties in Tenerife: cocktails, clubs and karaoke are commonplace. There are also a couple of casinos here. Nightlife centers are located in the districts of Veronikas, Starko and Patch – sophisticated connoisseurs will find here modern nightclubs, cabarets, concert venues, etc.

Half an hour drive from Playa de las Americas is the territory of the Teide National Park with the volcano of the same name, one of the largest in the world, the main attraction of the island of Tenerife. You can climb to the top of the volcano (3718 m) along specially equipped trails or by cable car. In any case, the views from the top will not leave anyone indifferent!

The Arona Central Park, opened in 2004 and spread over an area of 42,000 square meters, is a must-visit with several squares, playgrounds and picnic areas.
