Nudist beach etiquette: 7 rules for beginners

Even in nudist paradise there are rules. We will tell you what you need to know and what to follow so that you are accepted as “one of your own” and you do not run into trouble, for example, in the form of a jealous husband.

If the Lord did not create bathing suits for Adam and Eve at the nude resort known as the Garden of Eden, then why should you not feel the ocean on your naked body and sand in various places all your life? For this, they came up with nudist beaches, of which there are many in Germany. nine0003

See also: The best nudist beaches in Germany: TOP-8.

However, before taking off your clothes and enjoying freedom, a newcomer to a nude beach must know a few things.

Nudist beach etiquette: important points

Decide where you are going to go

There is a whole FKK movement in Germany and many nude beaches for you to choose from. You can go to the island of Sylt, which is known for the beaches of Bune 16 and Kampen. In other parts of Germany, head to the nude beach Ording-Nord, Warnemünde beach, Müggelsee in Berlin or Flaucher in Munich. Read the full list in our review. nine0003

Es Trenc on the Spanish island of Mallorca, Wreck Beach in Vancouver, Praia do Pinho in Brazil, Red Beach in Crete, Plage de Tahiti in St. Tropez on the French Riviera are highly regarded by skinny swimmers internationally.

In addition, there are many private “naturist” clubs, lodges, hotels, all-inclusive resorts, campsites and condominiums.

Life hack for finding naturist vacations: there is even an Airbnb online platform for finding and booking clothing-free places. It’s called Naturist BnB, and it has listings for houses, guest houses, resorts, and other places to stay around the world. nine0003

Once you have found a sunny place to undress, there are some basic rules of etiquette to follow to avoid embarrassment. Etiquette on a nude beach is very important, your behavior can cause embarrassment.

Familiarize yourself with local regulations

Before you go out on the sand, make sure you are clear on which parts of the beach you are allowed to be naked. Respect these boundaries by remaining covered in areas where clothing is required and in common areas such as parking lots. nine0003

Also check if full nudity or only topless is allowed (as in many parts of the French Riviera). In addition, it may be helpful to know if going naked is legal or optional.

Don’t stare

That’s right. Your gaze will cause confusion among other visitors. This is the cardinal rule of visiting the beach in the nude. You can look (how can you not look?), but do not stare around like in a store.

People are vulnerable when they are naked, so they do not want to perceive themselves as your “target”. Don’t you want the same in return? If you find it difficult to keep your eyes open, open a book. nine0003

See also: FKK and German nudism.

Leave your camera at home

There’s another golden rule that nude beach etiquette makes clear. Let’s imagine that you decide to capture your first visit by taking a memorable photo, and then post it on Instagram to make your friends jealous. Well, ethics says it’s better not to do that.

Even shooting landscapes can make people uncomfortable if they are not sure where you are pointing your smartphone. It is better not to get any devices for photography at all. If you need to take a selfie, make sure that you are not in the frame of something extra without your consent. nine0003

Carry a towel with you wherever you go

Obviously you will need a towel to lay on the sand. But in nudist resorts, you will most likely need to bring a towel with you to sit on furniture in restaurants and bars or any other common area. This is primarily a hygiene rule.

Apply sunscreen generously

This is a standard sunbathing routine, but worth repeating when it comes to sensitive parts of the body that don’t see the light of day as often. nine0003

Keep your distance

When choosing a place to sit or lie down, leave enough space between yourself and the next towel. If possible, more than if you were dressed. In this way, you make it clear that you do not intend to invade your neighbor’s personal space. This is another moment of comfort.

Do not try to have sex

Debauchery, whether with your partner, with someone you just met on the beach, or with yourself, is big no-no . Most nude recreation seeks to break the link between stripping and having sex.

In fact, the British Naturist Organization’s “Naturist Beach Code” explicitly states: “Any sexual activity is just as objectionable and just as criminal as any other public place.”

If you are a man at the beach and you have (so to speak) an involuntary and obvious problem, you should cover yourself with a towel, lie on your stomach or go waist-deep into the cool ocean and wait. Maybe try thinking about the German tax code. nine0003

visit nude beaches much less frequently than their grandparents did when they were young.

For women 19In the 70s, nudity was, among other things, a way of emancipation from the restrictions placed on the female body; hippies, naked, protested against modern civilization. Why are so many once popular nude beaches now empty? Stephanie Murray understands.

ShareRepostTweet

According to Lili Simpson, a 30-year-old Londoner who moved to Copenhagen about two years ago, Danes have an easy time with nudity. For example, they usually do not wrap themselves in a towel to change into a bathing suit. At the same time, in Denmark there are no laws prohibiting public nudity, so some women sunbathe topless. Klaus Jacobsen, a 36-year-old boy who grew up in the suburbs of Copenhagen, remembers that when he went to the beach with his family as a child, almost all the women, including his mother and aunt, were topless. But now the situation has changed. Danes have become less likely to use the right to be topless in a public place. Thorben Larson, chairman of the Danish Naturist Association (naturist is another term for nudists) is not convinced that the number of nude swimmers is declining across the board – among older Danes, Larson believes it is increasing – but agrees that the younger generation much less interested in nude bathing. nine0003

Public nudity is losing popularity not only in Denmark. Topless sunbathing has become less and less fashionable among French women over the years. The 2019 survey found a similar trend among women in the UK, Germany and Italy.

As for the United States, it is more difficult to assess here. The 1970s movement to legalize nudity on public beaches was much less successful in the US than in Europe. On the one hand, according to a survey conducted by a naturist organization, more Americans are embracing the idea of vacationing in the nude. From 2015 to 2021, the proportion of people surveyed who said they would try to strip on the beach if they knew it was safe and legal jumped from 28% to 45%. On the other hand, says Nude & Natural contributor Mark Storey, “Many of the nude beaches that were in the US during the heyday of naturism no longer exist.” nine0003

And those beaches that are still functioning attract completely different people than in the 1970s – then it was low-income youth. However, according to Charles Daney, a naturist blogger and nude beach goer with forty years of experience, in the 1980s, these beaches were fairly well balanced by age and gender. According to him, there are now many more men than women, sometimes their share reaches 95%.

The decline in nude sunbathing, especially among young women, defies simple explanation. The naturists and historians I consulted for this article have made many suggestions about this. For example, the population of American and European cities is filled with people from cultures and religions where public nudity is not welcome, and in addition, modern people are better informed about the risk of getting skin cancer. But almost everyone I’ve talked to suspects the Internet is somehow involved in this trend. nine0003

In the decades before the Internet, even crowded public nude beaches were private places.

In the 1950s, you could spend a day on a nude beach with complete confidence that no one but those present would see you naked or even know you were there.

But with the advent of smartphones, you can now hardly see if someone else has taken a picture of you – and if you are in someone else’s picture, it is almost impossible to prevent its distribution. Everything that happens in public places can easily appear on the Internet, and this reality makes us be more careful when we want to undress. nine0003

The Internet is full of nudity. Its users have access to a bottomless abyss of nude or semi-nude images. Perhaps the abundance of online nudity has made the trip to the nude beach less exciting. In addition, the images of nudes that we see on the Internet – retouched, filtered and highly stylized – distort our idea of what human bodies should look like. In this case, the sight of real human bodies – with hair, wrinkles and cellulite – can cause discomfort. From the perspective of millennial nudist and blogger Timothy Sargent, it’s ironic that seeing so many “unedited” bodies on a nude beach can help correct these unrealistic expectations.

Where is hot in November? Top winter sun holiday destinations 2021

Escape to Mauritius – or any of these November winter sun hotspots (Picture: Getty)

As things get frosty throughout November, you can’t be blamed for seeking a bit of sun.

Catching some golden rays on a white sandy beach somewhere far, far away? Sounds like music to our ears.

An action-packed adventure itinerary, completed glowing of sunshine would also be a dream come true.

With travel now more open than it has been for quite some time, it’s not totally impossible to think a winter sun-focused November getaway could be on the cards.

So, where are the hottest and best weather-friendly destinations for this chilly month?

Let’s take a look at a few options around the globe.

Where is hot in November?

Le Morne Brabant on Mauritius (Picture: Getty)

Mauritius

Temperature: 29°C
Sunshine hours: Eight
Flight time: 12 hours, 55 minutes

In the Indian Ocean, you’ll find the East African country of Mauritius – up there with The Seychelles and Maldives as one of the world’s most famous and beautiful island destinations.

Glistening beaches, reefs to snorkel and oceans to swim in make Mauritius an excellent option for those who prefer to sunbathe all day. Evenings are warm at 20°C, so you won’t need to wrap up too much to enjoy the nighttime.

For the active traveller, Mauritius has lots to offer, too. Here, you can do just about every water sport under the sun, hike through rainforests, climb mountains and discover wildlife.

It can be pricey, but here’s how to see Mauritius without breaking the bank.

Madeira’s traditional houses (Picture: Getty)

Madeira

Temperature: 21°C
Sunshine hours: 10 hours
Flight time: Three hours, 50 minutes

An autonomous region of Portugal, you’ll find Madeira is significantly warmer in November than much of Europe – as it’s located just off the northern coast of Africa.

The weather’s not scorching – a lovely 21°C as an average high, getting cooler at night towards the 13°C mark. But for the shorter flight time, and the amount of options for your trip, you can’t really go wrong.

Funchal, the capital, is a quirky city, while the northern reaches of the island are where to go for wild nature-packed adventures. Wherever you go, expect to see coast – and drink lots of wine (there are plenty of vineyards).

South Africa

Temperature: 23°C°C
Sunshine hours: 12 hours
Flight time:

November is usually a pretty good time to visit South Africa.

It’s the very start of summer, with (mostly) clear weather, quiet beaches and fewer tourists all clamouring to go on safari before the peak season begins.

Your options for where to go in South Africa are vast. There’s Cape Town, which has lovely weather in November, and then the big national parks for safari: Kruger National Park perhaps being the best known.

You could go off-the-beaten-path to the Northern Cape, or the eastern region of KwaZulu-Natal, which is also a great destination for wildlife lovers.

There, you’ll also find the city of Durban – which is known for its Golden Mile beach.

Near Aphrodite’s Rock in Paphos, Cyprus (Picture: Getty)

Cyprus

Temperature: 22ºC
Sunshine hours: 10 hours
Flight time: Four hours, 30 minutes

Usually a scorching summer destination for us Brits (even getting into the 40ºC range on occasion), Cyprus is a great choice for winter sun with minimal flight time.

Temperatures can reach around 22ºC as an average high, maybe pushing up a bit higher if you’re lucky.

Uber-popular Paphos will be this warm in November, so you can spend all day lazing on the sun lounger or by the glorious beaches – before a slightly chillier evening kicks in.

P.S. We’ve also recommended Cyprus in December’s top winter sun destinations.

Caminito in La Boca, Buenos Aires, Argentina. (Picture: Getty)

Buenos Aires, Argentina

Temperature: 25ºC
Flight time: 17 hours

Sunny South America couldn’t be any further away from cold, damp England – and Argentina is now reopening to vaccinated travellers who meet their lengthy entry requirements.

You’ll have to pay for it though, with a stop-over flight taking a minimum of 17 hours, unless you can catch the only direct flight from the UK to Buenos Aires leaving from London Heathrow.

Hopefully, it’ll be worth it. The bustling capital is full of interesting neighbourhoods, art museums and noteworthy architecture, which are so much better enjoyed when the weather’s nice. Of course, it could also be your gateway into a much longer, more extensive trip.

The capital of Malta is the city of Valletta (Picture: Getty)

Malta

Temperature: 21ºC
Sunshine hours: 10 hours
Flight time: Three hours, 10 minutes

The easiest flight time on our list belongs to Mediterranean gem Malta.

At this time of year, the sea is still pretty warm, so get yourself on that beach ASAP – consider the coastal towns of Sliema and St Julian’s for that resort feel.

Don’t skip on the other islands of Malta, though: Gozo and the petite Cosimo. And if you can, spend a few days in the stunning capital, Valletta, which has been a filming location for everything from Game Of Thrones to the new Jurassic World.

Discover the best things to do in Malta here – from festivals to hopping islands

Tarrafal on Santiago Island, Cape Verde (Picture: Getty)

Cape Verde

Temperature: 28ºC
Sunshine hours: Eight hours
Flight time: Six hours

Cape Verde is a small archipelago country in Africa – and is the perfect winter sun destination. With a gorgeous average high temperature, you’ll feel like you’re away at the peak of UK summer.

Beach resort Boa Vista is popular, while the off-shore island of Sal is known for its history in salt trading, kitesurfing opportunities and being the home of many sea turtles.

Meanwhile, the capital, Praia, is on the largest island, Santiago. It’s home to two very well-known beaches: Praínha and Quebra Canela – but it’s not all simply sea and sand.

Expect to see vibrant towns, mountains and the UNESCO-listed old capital Cidade Velha (the oldest part of Santiago island) – on your trip, too.

Santa Cruz province of Tenerife, with Mount Teide in the background (Picture: Getty)

Tenerife

Temperature: 21°C
Sunshine hours: Seven hours
Flight time: Four hours, 30 minutes

The Canary Islands are beloved as a winter sun destination – so Tenerife’s inclusion on this list is no surprise.

Home to myriad yellow-sand beaches (like the windsurf-friendly La Tejita), the Thailand-inspired water park Siam, Spain’s highest peak (Mount Teide) and hikes galore in Teide National Park, you certainly won’t get bored on a trip to Tenerife.

Santa Cruz de Tenerife is the major city on the island, and there you can find the Mercado de Nuestra Senora de Africa – a traditional, local food market dating back to the 1940s.

And for November 2022 (and beyond)…

If 2021 is still feeling a bit uncertain for you, here are some great destinations you can consider for next year.

Time to get saving!

Laos

Temperature: 25°C
Sunshine hours: Six
Flight time: 11 hours

This South-East Asian country has so much to offer – and is particularly sunny and rain-free towards the back end of the year.

Unfortunately, travel restrictions mean few Brits can get visas and there’s a 14-day quarantine still in place – so maybe one for 2022 or beyond.

Opt for the capital Vientiane, or the popular city of Luang Prabang. Expect temples to explore, bridges, markets, architecture, great food – and views along the famous Mekong River.

However, Laos is landlocked – so no beaches here. If you’re after beaches and islands, you may want to consider switching to (or combining your trip with) neighbouring countries Vietnam and Cambodia – also good weather picks for November.

Here’s everything you need to know about Laotian cuisine

Is there anything you need to consider before you travel in 2021? (Picture: Getty)

More winter sun destinations – and when to visit them

Don’t fancy November 2021, and can’t bear to wait until November 2022?

Consider a winter sun holiday later this year, or in early 2022, instead. You could be jetting off in January, or enjoying the sunny climes of Abu Dhabi in February.

Fancy Christmas abroad? Here’s where’s hot in December.

To kick off the New Year in St Lucia, Antigua and Barbuda or Thailand, see the (literal) hottest destinations for January.

And last but not least, here’s where to find the sun in February on a romantic Valentine’s Day trip.

Know this before you go

While travel has recently opened up and its seems like Covid travel restrictions are a thing of the past – keep in mind that things could change at any time.

All the destinations on this list are visitable at the time of writing – but you should know that countries can be added to a ‘red list’ or ‘no-go list’ at at short notice. If a country goes red while you’re already there, you’ll be subject to new quarantine rules.

Individual countries could also change whether or not they’re willing to allow Brits in – so that’s worth keeping in mind, too.

Cape Verde to Canaries, 10-22 April 2023 (13 days)

Join to sail from exotic Cape Verde to Canary Islands located in the Atlantic Ocean and visit some fascinating places along the way. The voyage is an excellent mile building and training opportunity in tidal waters. The Atlantic leg from Cape Verde to Canaries is an RYA Yachtmaster Ocean qualifying passage.

Highlights

Warm trade wind sailing

Spectacular landscape

Celestial Navigation

Dates

  • Start: 10 April 2023 (Monday, 12:00) at Marina Mindelo (Sao Vicence island), Cape Verde.
  • Finish: 22 April 2023 (Saturday, 09:00) at Marina Radazul (Tenerife island), Canaries. It won’t be possible to leave the luggage on the boat after this time.

The start and end dates are fixed.

Price

Whole trip (13 days) per person:

  • 980 Euro (75 Euro / day) for a bunk. Deposit (50% of the balance) paid within one week of booking, the rest 35 days before the start date.
  • 200 Euro (15 Euro / day) for consumables. Collected during the joining day for all food consumed onboard, harbour fees, and diesel. This is a realistic estimation. If there is anything left at the end of the trip you will get it back.

The trip is non-commercial and run in friends-sailing manner. The contribution per person is fixed no matter how many people booked the trip. The trip will run regardless of the number of participants.

What is not included:

  • Optional expenses like rental vehicles or food & beverages consumed ashore
  • Travel to and from the boat
  • Personal travel insurance (highly recommended) – you can find some recommendations in the FAQ
  • Personal laundry (some ports have facilities to do laundry if you need)

How much to bring in addition?

Generally, you won’t need anything in addition but this will depend on how much you want to eat in restaurants and spend on other things like souvenirs and tourist attractions. Some people prefer to eat only on the boat and don’t spend anything on restaurants and some prefer to eat outside whenever we are on land. This is very individual.

Local currency

Euro is accepted currency in Cape Verde so save yourself all the problems by taking Euro in cash. There might not be ATMs in all places we plan to visit. The BCA and Caixa banks are quite prominent all over Cape Verde and you can change Euro to Escudos. The Escudo is fixed at a rate of 110 escudos to 1 euro and euro is widely accepted across the island so you don’t have to exchange any Euros to Escudos. The Cape Verdean escudo isn’t available outside of the country, which means you’ll need to exchange it once you arrive in Cape Verde and exchange it back before you leave the islands.

Who can join

You should have at least 1 week of sea sailing experience on board a sailing yacht to join the trip. If you don’t have any experience yet, join the trip Around Cape Verde and continue the journey in this leg.

If you are new to ocean sailing, this is a great opportunity for you to get into it and boost your sailing skills.

You will become an active member of the crew. You are not just a passenger. During a voyage, you will assist with helming, sail trimming and all the normal duties of a crew member whilst having the opportunity to learn about weather, routing, navigation, boat handling and many more according to your interest and experience. Above all, it should be funny and recreational for everyone.

If English is not your native language and you don’t know the English sailing terms, don’t worry. You will learn the necessary vocabulary in no time while on board.

Travel logistics

  • Start: Fly into Cesária Évora Airport, São Pedro (VXE). Most flights to Cape Verde are with layover in Lisbon but you might be able to find direct connections (e.g. charter flights with TUI). You can take a taxi or bus from the airport to get to the Marina Mindelo (~9km).
  • Finish: Marina Radazul is located 16km from Tenerife North Airport (TFN) and 50km from Tenerife South Airport (TFS). You can reach both airports by taxi or bus.

Try the following websites to find the best flight connections:

  • Momondo
  • Google flights
  • Scyscanner
  • Cape Verde domestic flights

If you cannot find a good direct flights to/from the particular Cape Verde island, check connections to/from other islands (Boavista, Santiago, Boavista, Sal, Sao Vicence). You can take domestic flights operated between the Cape Verde islands by Spanisch BestFly airline – only available on the site or through an agent less than 3-4 months in advance. They offer reasonable prices, frequent schedules and free checked-in luggage of up to 23kg. Alternatively, you can take a fast ferry operating between the islands.

Let us now and we can help you find the best connections!

Are there any visa requirements in Cape Verde?

No. In total 61 countries (including UK, US and EU countries) are exempt from visa requirements for stays up to 30 days. Only a simple online declaration a few days before arrival is required via the E.A.S.E. form – cost 59€ per traveller.

Do I need to be vaccinated before I travel to Cape Verde?

There are no mandatory vaccines to enter Cape Verde. Cape Verde has become a very popular destination with its sunny climate and wonderful winds, which attract sailors, surfers and other sports-interested tourists. Cape Verde is also a safe destination to visit, which always feels good as a tourist. Diseases that may be prevalent in mainland Africa are very rare or non-existent in Cape Verde. The best is to consult with your doctor before the travel. Vaccines that you may consider includes Hepatitis A, Tetanus and Typhoid. You most likely received the first two as a child. Please find more info here.

There is almost no rain in Cape Verde and Canaries in April. You may expect a few isolated showers during the whole trip.

Sea temperature

Sea water is warm during the entire year in Cape Verde with an average of 23°C in April. In Canaries you can expect an average of 20°C. So, you will be able to enjoy swimming in the ocean.

Wind and sea state

Wind conditions in Cape Verde and Canaries are perfect for sailing due to the trade winds blowing all year round with an average of 5 Bft in April. The islands topography can greatly affect the strength and direction of winds in certain areas.

There is a warm, dry, oceanic climate and the sun shines 350 days a year. The weather is characterized by the trade winds governed to a great extent by the activity and strength of the Azores High.

There is a weak south west going current and stronger tidal streams between islands.

You will be an active member of the crew and we will provide practical trainings on board to everyone that will be interested to improve sailing skills.

We give a great amount of responsibility to each crew member in running the ship so that you can gain a good experience and learn new skills as much or as little as you want. The skipper is an instructor and will find it difficult not to teach or coach to anyone that shows the slightest bit of interest.

RYA qualifying passages

If you are an aspiring Skipper or Yachtmaster, it will be an excellent opportunity to gain some bluewater miles, practice navigation, pilotage and COLREG skills so that you can be more confident and comfortable when taking a boat out to sea on your own.

The opportunity will also be there to act as a skipper (with guidance if needed from the skipper) for your RYA Yachtmaster Coastal or RYA Yachtmaster Offshore qualifying 60M passages.

The Atlantic passage from Cape Verde to Canaries can be used as a qualifying passage for RYA Yachtmaster Ocean, if that’s what you need. You can get your mileage and required celestial sights during the trip.

Main topics that you can learn or brush up:

  • Maneuvering under sails & engine: berthing, hoisting and lowering sails, reefing, tacking, gybing, sail trim
  • Anchoring in swell (winch bridle and stern anchor)
  • Safety: use of liferaft, lifejacket, EPIRB, PLB, AIS beacons, managing emergency situations
  • Equipment: use of Autopilot, AIS, VHF, Satellite communication
  • Weather forecasts and weather routing
  • Ocean & coastal navigation: digital and traditional (including astronavigation)
  • Night navigation
  • Pilotage and passage planning
  • COLREGs
  • Storm tactics and the use of storm jib
  • Life on board: organization of watches, nutrition, sleep management

Celestial navigation (astronavigation)

During the voyage we will practice traditional methods of fixing positions without sight of land. During the long ocean passage, we will navigate using celestial navigation. You will learn how to use sextant and how to calculate own position using sun, planets, moon and stars.

10 April: Joining day – Mindelo on São Vicente island

We will spend the first day preparing and victualling the yacht, going over the safety routines and practices, getting up to speed with the boat and learning or refreshing all the basic sailing skills before we embark on the journey. Once we slip the lines there will be plenty of occasions to practice tacking, gybing, reefing, boat handling under engine and all the other key skills we must have.

Mindelo Marina

Mindelo city

São Vicente is home to Mindelo, the cultural capital of the islands and where you’ll hear music all day long and be able to explore the city’s fine architecture. The island is home to some of Cape Verde’s greatest musicians, writers and thinkers.

Baia do Tarrafal on Santo Antão island (~28 NM / 6h of sailing)

Santo Antão is home to some of the most spectacular scenery you’ll see anywhere on earth and it still feels relatively untouched. An island where towering green peaks and fertile craters meet cliff-hanging towns. Santo Antão offers the opportunity to embark on hiking and sightseeing explorations, in a place relatively untouched by tourism.

Baia do Tarrafal in Santo Antão

Santo Antão green peaks

Before we head to Canaries, we will anchor in the scenic Baia do Tarrafal, very welcoming to visiting sailors.

El Hierro island (~760 NM / 8 days of non-stop sailing)

After a day in Santo Antão, we will embark on the open Atlantic passage. This will be a non-stop 8 day ocean passage to Canaries (El Hierro island).

Puerto de la Estaca Marina

El Hierro landscape

El Hierro is the smallest island in the Canary Islands. Of the seven, it is the furthest west, but it shares the same climate as the others. A paradise in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Life, in El Hierro, is different. It’s special, it’s unique. It’s an island to enjoy with all five senses, to discover its landscapes and feel its peace. El Hierro is an island with soul.

Since the year 2000 El Hierro is a UNESCO biosphere reserve. The wish was that all energy of the island should be generated completely self-sufficient from own wind power. So far, one third of this expectation has been fulfilled.

It is worth to rent a car to visit this scenic island. A visit to Villa de Valverde town is recommended. It is a social, administrative and religious centre of the island and was founded at the end of the 15th Century, during the initial stages of the conquest of the Canaries.

Tenerife island (~110 NM / 1 day of sailing)

Tenerife is the island of thousand experiences. If there’s one thing Tenerife can brag about, it’s extraordinary natural spaces.

Tenerife

Puerto Deportivo Radazul

Tenerife is the largest of the seven Canary Islands. The island is an idyll with a remarkable variety of geographic options from other-worldly desert landscapes to lush green mountains to stunning seascapes. The island’s varied topography offers a plethora of options for the adventurer. From beach to forest, explore banana plantation filled valleys, marvel at lunar landscapes, or hike through beautiful caverns.

22 April: Finishing day, Puerto Deportivo Radazul on Tenerife island

We will finish our trip in Radaluz. It’s always a strange feeling to pack up, say farewell to new friends and prepare to head back home.

El Teide (Natural World Heritage Site)

Tenerife beaches

If you have one day to spare after the trip, we can highly recommend renting a car and visiting Teide National Park. As well as being home to the impressive volcanic structure that is the Teide, the highest peak in Spain (3 715m) and a Natural World Heritage Site, you will find here what is possibly the most striking scenery you have ever seen. These are some of the most spectacular volcanic manifestations on the planet.

Still have questions? Please don’t hesitate to contact us. We’d love to hear your.

Birdfinding. info   One of the commonest birds on almost all of the islands that comprise its limited range.  In the Canary Islands, it is uncommon and local on Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, but otherwise unlikely to be missed on any visit to Macaronesia.

Atlantic Canary

Serinus canaria

Endemic to Macaronesia: the Azores, Madeira, and the Canary Islands, where it occurs in most habitat types at all elevations.  Apparently resident on every significant island in all three archipelagos.

An introduced population is well-established on Midway Atoll in Hawaii’s Northwestern Chain the mid-Pacific, where it was introduced around 1910.  The introduction of rats to Midway in the 1940s nearly eliminated it, but a few survived.  With the eventual extermination of rats in the late 1990s, the canary population rebounded into the thousands.  The Midway population is derived from cagebirds that were selectively bred to be pale yellow, but a few streaked individuals of more natural phenotypes sometimes emerge from the domesticated gene pool.

Identification

A heavily streaked, sparrow-like finch that is largely grayish with variable amounts of yellow.

Males typically have extensive yellow or orange staining on the face, breast, and rump, and smaller, duller patches on the wings and back.

Voice.  The song is renowned for being sweet and melodic.  It has a variable structure and usually consists of several chipping, warbling, or babbling phrases in succession, often repeating a phrase once or several times before moving on to another: Typical flight or contact calls are a single inflected note, or sometimes a note that reverberates:

Cf. European Serin.  European Serin overlaps with Atlantic Canary in the Canary Islands and has been recorded as a vagrant on the Azores and Madeira.  The two species differ vocally but are very similar-looking.  Some individuals may not be identifiable by visible features alone, but their typical plumages are distinguishable:

Voice:  European Serin’s song is described as wheezy and unmusical, and its call is a buzzy trill.  Atlantic Canary is renowned for the sweetness of its singing.   Its call may be buzzy at times, but not usually.

Overall Shape:  Atlantic Canary has a longer tail and proportionately smaller-looking head than European Serin.  Conversely, the serin appears large-headed and short-tailed.

Male Head Pattern:  Male European Serin typically has a large dark cheek patch bordered by a bright yellow brow-stripe.  Male Atlantic Canary varies widely, with some individuals being extensively saturated with yellow and others being grayer, and most have some gray on the cheek and some yellow on the brow.  This distinction is mostly reliable for identifying male canaries that do not have the serin’s pattern.  Individuals that have the serin’s pattern could be either species

Female Breast Pattern:  Female European Serin has a boldly streaked breast, whereas female Atlantic Canary’s breast is either indistinctly streaked or unstreaked.

Female Rump:  Female European Serin has an unstreaked pale-yellow rump patch.  The typical female Atlantic Canary has a vaguely streaked and largely yellow rump.   This distinction is rarely useful in the field, as both have yellow rumps and the difference is one of degree that is difficult to evaluate.

Bill Color and Shape:  Some identification references contrast the bills of European Serin and Atlantic Canary, characterizing the serin’s bill as blunt and gray and the canary’s as longer and pinker.  These contrasts may be accurate in many cases, but not always—the canary’s bill can also appear blunt and gray.

Notes

Monotypic species.  Also known as the Island Canary or simply the Canary.

10. Breeding of canaries

Birds used as breeders must be healthy, active and vigorous. In addition to sick and weak individuals, birds younger than 10 months and older than 4 years should not be used for breeding. It is not recommended to resort to inbreeding, that is, mating of closely related individuals. As a rule, as a result of such mating, weak, non-viable offspring are obtained.

Much attention should be paid to the diet of canaries, as described in the previous chapter.

Beginning canary breeders should be aware that not only females, but also males must be in good physical shape. Therefore, before letting kenars into nesting cages, they should be let out for walks as often as possible. This is especially true for canaries of song breeds, which are kept in small single cages while learning to sing, which does not have a very good effect on the physical data of the bird.

Breeding of canaries should be started in March-April, when daylight hours noticeably increase and the first greenery necessary for the younger generation appears. However, modern canary breeders get offspring from birds at almost any time of the year. For this, electric lighting is used, with which you can daily lengthen daylight hours by 1–1.5 hours per week, gradually bringing it up to 14–15 hours per day. When breeding canaries, the illumination of the room in the morning and evening hours should be close to the illumination in the daytime.

One of the most important moments in breeding canaries is the selection of a pair. The fact is that partners must match each other in terms of breed characteristics – tune, exterior, color, etc. It is not recommended to make a pair of birds of different breed directions – color and song. In addition, spawners must be free from congenital physical defects – crooked paws and toes, deformed beak, etc.

Birds should be mated only if they are physiologically ready for nesting. This is very easy to identify by their appearance and behavior.

Readiness for reproduction can manifest itself in different ways. Females usually behave very aroused during this period. If there are several of them in one cage, quarrels often break out. Another sign of the female’s readiness for reproduction is the desire to build a nest – the female begins to carry blades of grass, feathers, scraps of paper in her beak and collect all this in different parts of the cage.

You can accurately determine the degree of female readiness for mating by placing finely chopped gauze or cotton wool on the bottom of the cage. If the bird begins to vigorously pull her beak, then it’s time to let her into the nesting cage with the kenar (males are placed there a week earlier than females).

External examination of canaries can also determine whether they are ready for breeding. Shortly before mating, the so-called brood spot appears on the female’s abdomen, which is a patch of bare skin that increases in size over time. The tail of the female in the period of readiness for mating strongly protrudes forward, noticeably thickens and is compared with the abdomen.

A brood spot on the abdomen of a female canary

Males also become restless. They constantly jump from perch to perch, flap their wings and make calls. The singing of kenars also changes dramatically – at this time their repertoire becomes less diverse, and unpleasant sharp and loud sounds appear in the song.

This text is an introductory fragment.

September in Portugal; a guide to Lisbon, Porto and the Algarve

Where to go in Portugal?Top 10 PortugalPortugal’s best beach1 week suggestionsA weekend in Portugal

September is one of the best months to visit Portugal. The weather is glorious and all tourist activities are open, but it is passed the hectic peak season of July and August.

With the end of school holidays and package tourists, the whole of Portugal takes on a much more relaxed ambience – and it is the best time to visit Portugal if you are travelling as a couple.

In September there will be shorter queues for the major tourist attractions, while the slight reduction in the temperature means it is also a fantastic time to explore the country.

Being straight after the summer season, everything is fully open (the resort towns tend to close down at the end of October), and the weather is still warm enough to spend time on the beaches.

September is actually one of the busiest months in the Algarve, especially for older tourists who are drawn by the relaxed pace of life, after the children have gone back to school.

It is a myth that prices are lower in September, but hotels and flights will not be sold out, so there will be more choice and availability.

This article will provide a guide to September in Portugal, and help you get the most from your holiday.

The beautiful Algarve region will be much less crowded in Septmeber than in the peak summer months

The whole of Portugal is perfect for a holiday during September. Recommended tour routes and holiday ideas for September include:
1) A city break based in Porto, which includes a cruise along the Douro River and day trips to Braga, Guimarães and Aveiro
2) A relaxed beach holiday to Albufeira, Alvor or Vilamoura
3) A touring trip of the Algarve (Tavira, Faro, Lagos and Silves)
4) A city break to Lisbon, with day trips to Sintra, Cascais, Sesimbra and Obidos
5) A tour of the undiscovered northeast of Portugal (Serra da Estrela mountains, Beira region, Monsanto and Lamego)

The interactive map below shows these suggested itineraries.

For the suggested tours 2 and 3 you would fly into Faro airport, for 1 and 5 Porto airport and for route 4 Lisbon airport. A car is needed for route 5 as this is a remote region of Portugal with almost no public transport.

Portugal weather in September

The weather in September could be classes as almost perfect. It will be warm, sunny and dry, but is without the intense heat of the summer. Rain is rare in September but there is always a possibility with a likelihood further to the north.

In the Algarve the weather will be warm enough for spending time on the beach, while evenings are refreshing, and you may need to bring a jacket.

The further north you go, the cooler it will get, and by the Porto coastline, there will only be a handful of days when it is suitable for sunbathing on the beach.

The Algarve in September

September is a great time to visit the Algarve, and is perfect for so many different tourist types.

The weather is warm enough to lounge about on the beaches, if all you want is a relaxing holiday. All of the resort towns are fully open, so you are spoilt for choice of where to stay. There are the larger and livelier resort towns such as Albufeira, Praia da Rocha or Vilamoura or the smaller and more personable beach towns such as Carvoeiro, Olhos de Água or Alvor.

The main beach of Albufeira in September, with many visitors and sunny hot weather

The slightly cooler weather in September makes the Algarve great for an activity holiday, such as cycling, golf, hiking, surfing, kayaking or deep-sea fishing. For a stunning coastal hiking route, there is the Percurso dos Sete Vales Suspensos or the mountains near Monchique. The best surfing is to the far west near Sagres, while Vilamoura is the centre for golfing holidays.

September is ideal to discover the culture and history of the Algarve with a touring holiday. There is the charming fishing town Tavira, the castles of Castro Marim, the Roman ruins at Estoi, the markets of Loule and the Moorish history of Silves. In the summer any serious sightseeing is too hot and draining, but in September it is enjoyable.

Insight: When most tourists consider a beach holiday to Portugal they instantly think of the Algarve, but Portugal has many more beautiful beaches and traditional resort towns.

Popular beach towns near Lisbon include Cascais, Estoril, Sesimbra or Ericeira. The Costa de Prata offers glorious beaches and charming towns (Nazaré, São Martinho do Porto or Costa Nova) or for somewhere completely undiscovered, consider the Alentejo coastline (Nova de Milfontes).

Porto in September

Porto is a treat in September, but is often overshadowed by the more well-known Lisbon or Algarve.

It takes two days to explore the city, and his makes it an ideal destination for a city break in September.

There is the quaint riverside Ribeira district to explore, the ancient cathedral district and endless opportunities for Port wine tasting in Vila Nova de Gaia. Porto is not just about history and culture, it boasts great nightlife, unique cuisines and a trendy forward-thinking vibe. No matter your age, you will love Porto.

Porto sits on the banks of the Douro River

Depending on your style of holiday, you may wish to take a relaxing boat cruise along the Douro River, as it passes through the scenic vine-covered hills around Peso da Régua and Pinhão. Equally, you could hire a car and explore the Douro region independently following the N222 road.

If the weather is hot and sunny and you fancy a trip to the beach, then head to the characterful beach town of Vila do Conde, or the vast sandy beaches of Espinho.

If you have more than three days in the Porto region, you may want to visit the common day trips, which include the historic city of Guimarães, the religious city of Braga or the coastal town of Aveiro. If you want to explore somewhere slightly away from the common tourist routes, consider visiting pretty Lamego or the port city of Viana do Castelo.

There is so much to see and do in the Porto region for a holiday in September and we can’t recommend it enough.

Lisbon in September

Lisbon has fewer crowds than in the summer, but it will still be busy, especially in the main tourist areas such as the Baixa and Belem districts or in the pretty town of Sintra.

There is so much to do and see in Lisbon, there is the ancient cobbled streets of Alfama, the grand plazas of Baixa, charming yellow trams to ride and the picturesque district of Belem to discover. Along with the vast array of sights, there is buzzing nightlife, a flourishing artisan scene and a social atmosphere about the city.

Lisbon extends over seven hills and the castle sits atop the highest

It takes three days of sightseeing to fully discover Lisbon, and then there are the day trips to further extend a holiday.

Sintra is a delightful town with lavish palaces and villas dotted around the hills of the Serra de Sintra. There is the pretty beach resort of Cascais, which is surrounded by gorgeous beaches or the authentic port city of Setubal. Slightly further is the walled town of Obidos or the historic city of Evora.

Lisbon is one of the greatest capital cities of western Europe, but in September (and with the whole of the summer) we suggest visiting Porto, as it is equally as good and is significantly less crowded. Lisbon is best visited in the late spring and especially June.

Alternative areas of Portugal to visit in September

Portugal is not just Lisbon, Porto and the Algarve, and some of the most magical areas of the country are off from the main tourist routes.

The Alentejo coastline is stunning in September but is little visited. Here vast pristine beaches await you, with huge waves for surfing and unspoilt countryside for hiking or cycling. Vila Nova de Milfontes is the main town of the region, while Porto Covo is a pretty village, and both are wonderful for a relaxing beach holiday.

The unspoilt Praia de Almograve beach, just south of Vila Nova de Milfontes

For a touring holiday, consider exploring the hilltop castles and rugged scenery of northeast Portugal. A tour of this dramatic region, which is barely known by tourists, could include the fortified towns of the Beira region (Trancoso, Almeida and Marialva), the mountains of the Serra da Estrela and the boulder-strewn town of Monsanto. September is one of the best months to visit the Serra da Estrela, as the scenic mountain roads aren’t clogged with Portuguese day-trippers.

Monsanto maybe remote from everything but is definitely worth visiting

For a more cultural touring holiday, consider the central region of Portugal. Destinations that could be visited include the university city of Coimbra, the Knights Templar fortified town of Tomar, the monastery at Batalha and the pilgrimage town of Fatima.

It is hassle-free to book through On the Beach. Their website is so well designed and gives you all the information/alternatives that you could possibly want. An excellent online service

Yes and no. Booking a holiday last minute can result in securing a bargain. Airlines are desperate to fill their planes, so if they have lots of seats still available near to the departure date then they may significantly reduce the cost of these in order to fill the plane. The same is true for hotel rooms. So if you are flexible about where you want to go, then you can secure a great holiday at a low price last minute.

If, however, you have a specific destination in mind and/or specific dates you want to go, then you are generally much better off booking as early as possible. This way you secure the holiday and can also benefit from early booking discounts.

It all depends on how flexible you can be. If you can be extremely flexible on your destination and hotel, then it is probably best to book just a couple of days before departure, nabbing the last couple of seats on a plane and the last available room in a hotel.

As with many things, flight pricing fluctuates based on supply and demand, so it’s not always clear cut which day is the cheapest to fly. But generally speaking, Tuesdays are the cheapest day to fly. If we are talking weekend flights only, Sundays are the cheapest day to jet away.

On the other side of the coin, Fridays are typically the most expensive day to fly.

Our Top Tip!

We love those spontaneous, ‘let’s just go’ last-minute holidays, but if you’re just a last-minute kind of holidaymaker then you can make your trip a little more smooth-sailing with some prep work. We’re not saying ditch the ‘last-minute’ part of your holiday, but if you know you’re going to book something last minute at some point in the future, start checking you have everything you need in advance (like your passport being in date, sun cream, summer clothes etc. ) If you gradually tick everything off your list before you even book, you’ll have zero running around to do before you go. Perfecto!

Mallorca in September. is it worth it?

Is it worth flying to Mallorca at the beginning of September for a holiday? (first 2 weeks) will it be cold and how often does it rain? Google shows it’s warm, but here I often read that people complain about the weather in Mallorca in September. share your experience, comrades! nine0005

I was in Mallorca twice in September, once in the middle of the month, the other at the end, both times the weather was wonderful. Parents go there almost every year in late August – early September, only once they complained about rainy weather.

I flew to Mallorca many times in late September – early October to cheer up . In Germany it’s raining, windy, overcast, faces all around seem to have eaten lemons… but at this time in Mallorca…. SUMMER, SUN, +30, water +24, hot sand, everyone is happy and cheerful. nine0005

Since I was flying for 2-3 days, I didn’t go far from the airport and stopped, khe-khe, in S’Arenal. Yes, there are a lot of drunken Germans, but it’s full of free German and all kinds of girls who want to have fun As they say, it’s a shame to tell, but it’s very nice to remember Mallorca vari-vari-good, S’Arenal ve best!

we fly to Mallorca in September without fail and in May, June as it will. September is amazing! Like a velvet season on the Black Sea. There is no more sweltering heat and fewer people on the beaches, the sea is wonderful, you go in and you don’t want to climb out. About two years ago, on the day of departure, we left home in the rain, this was the only time in the last 6 years. We always fly away on the 28th, 30th. Mallorca is small, if it rains, then all over, not like in Tenerife, it rains more often in the north and a little colder. We were in Mallorca and in the north and in the south, no difference. There was no wind anywhere, but if you want to be 200% sure, go to small bays, next to the peguera, for example, where we even swam in a storm. The beauty!
And the first half of September is simply no doubt and can not be! nine0005

Friendly staff

Friendly staff, good flight times, hotel clean and friendly although it does need a bit of a facelift. Hotel staff are fantastic so helpful, the food is fantastic, always something available for even the most fussy. Drinks available all day, if required. The only downside is that the Atlantic Gardens are a way out from the town. We got round this by hiring a mobility scooter, which was great fun.

Jet2 city break

Booked a city break to Palma over New Year with Jet2 via the app. Was very easy to book and got a £20 discount for using the app. On arriving at Manchester airport the check in staff were friendly and helpful and had us booked in quickly. The flights left on time both ways and the hotel was fabulous. The whole experience was excellent and we have now booked another city break with Jet2 as a result. Would highly recommend.

Our experience of using Jet2 is great…amazing company

Our experience of using Jet2 is great from start to finish. Booking is simple with everything organised for you. You are kept up to date with all aspects of you holiday. The app is great as all your documents are saved there. While on holiday you get notifications of you pick up time and place 72 hours before you travel back home. I have not complaints about Jet2 at all.

Excellent service as always

Excellent service once again from Jet 2. Easy to book and plenty of info about the area visiting and recommendations of what to see . Booked 2 days trips at the same time as booking the holiday as was easier that having to search other sites. Great flight times, plenty of options for length of holiday. Had to call them as my tablet was playing up and so glad I did as was given further information about the area as the colleague had been there before.

Booking my holiday through Jet2’s website couldn’t have been easier. The selection of holidays was fantastic and when we narrowed it down to the one we wanted it was so easy to complete. Booking my holiday was straight forward. The fact that EVERYTHING is included is a big plus, no worrying about how much luggage we can take or afford to take as add ons are ridiculously expensive with the ‘low cost’ airlines, or how we get from the airport to hotel etc, easy, just plain old simple. Anyone can do it!

Well located, from a few meters from El Cotillo bus station, supermarkets, the local Port and near from seafood restaurants. There are some restaurants in the same building, but not too close. It is quiet in the night.
It has privileged views of the Puerto del Cotillo, Cotillo Rock and a great panoramic view of the entire east coast of the island. The sunsets are excellent. The large terraces are the best feature of this house.

I am a local neighbor living in a close village from El Cotillo. Available for any request or emergency.

El Cotillo is a little fisher town in the north of the island of Fuerteventura. Is famous for its beaches for surfing (like Piedra Playa Beach, La Escalera Beach and the North beaches), and It has some peaceful and safe beaches for families too. Also have an small historical area. It is peaceful and silent in the night.
There are a lot of seafood restaurants, a few supermarkets, a bank (CaixaBank) and a bus station.

Do you need a map of Iceland to plan your trip around the land of ice and fire? Since this is one of our favorite destinations and also one of the places where we run photo tours every year, I have been saving and creating maps of Iceland of all different kinds.

As there are many things to do in Iceland, in this guide you will find all the tourist maps of Iceland you’ll need to plan your trip and enjoy it to the fullest once you’re there. Remember to always carry the maps of Iceland with you so you don’t miss any part of this beautiful Nordic island. In addition, you can print out or download them on your smartphone so you can check them at any time during your trip.

In this guide you will find:

  • Iceland on a map – Where is Iceland on a map of the world
  • Tourist map of Iceland – Map of Iceland attractions
  • Interactive map of Iceland
  • Iceland road map
  • Map of the Ring Road, Iceland
  • Map of Reykjavík, Iceland
  • Map of Iceland waterfalls
  • Map of Iceland hot springs
  • Map of Iceland volcanoes + Map of Iceland glaciers
  • Map of Iceland Cities and Villages
  • Map of the best places to see Northern Lights in Iceland
  • Map of the Golden Circle, Iceland
  • Map of the best places to stay in Iceland
  • Iceland Map in Europe
  • High-resolution map of Iceland

In addition, at the end of the article, I’ll give you an Iceland map for downloading in KML so you can take it with you even without an internet connection.

1. Iceland on a map – Where is Iceland on a map of the world?

If you’re wondering, where is Iceland on a map of the world, don’t worry, because below, you’ll find a world map where you will see its location. Iceland is an island located between the European and North American continents but is considered part of Europe. In fact, below you will see where Iceland is on the map of Europe. It is a Nordic country, located between Norway and Greenland, at a high latitude, just below the Arctic Circle.

1. Iceland on a map – Where is Iceland on a map of the world

And now that you know where Iceland is on the map, you can imagine that, due to its location, temperatures are very low in winter and cool in summer. However, thanks to where Iceland is on the map, you can enjoy two incredible phenomena there: the northern lights in winter and the midnight sun in summer. Below you will also find a map with the best locations to see Northern Lights in Iceland.

2. Tourist map of Iceland – Map of Iceland attractions

On the Iceland tourist map below, you’ll be able to quickly locate the island’s main points of interest. I like this type of map for getting a general idea of where the most important things are and for planning an itinerary.

2. Tourist map of Iceland – Map of Iceland attractions

3. Interactive map of Iceland

Below is an interactive map of Iceland so that you can see each and every one of the interesting places in this beautiful country.

On the map, you will find everything from the main tourist attractions of Reykjiavík, the capital of Iceland, to volcanoes, the most impressive waterfalls, natural pools with hot springs where you can bathe, and the best places to see the northern lights in winter.

I have organized the map with different layers so that you can use exactly the map of Iceland that you need. Later, I will also show you some of the most important maps, and, at the end of the article, I will tell you how to download this tourist map of Iceland so you can have easy access to it on your phone.

4. Road map of Iceland

This Iceland road map is an essential map for exploring the country by car. If you are going to drive in Iceland, make sure you download this map.

On it, you will see the main roads, including a map of Iceland F-Road, a road you must take if you visit the Highlands. Remember that to drive on the F-roads, you will need to rent a 4×4 in Iceland.

If you’re going to go to the Highlands of Iceland, I also recommend checking the following map to see if you have to cross any river to reach your destination (marked on the map with a V).

4. Road map of Iceland

Apart from having this map of Iceland on hand, I recommend always checking the road conditions on Road.is, as you may find that you have to take some detours due to snow, overflowing rivers, storms, works, etc.

5. Map of Iceland’s Ring Road

Route 1, better known as the Ring Road, is the road that goes around the island and is, therefore, the most important road in the country. In some areas near Reykjavik, the capital of Iceland, the Ring Road may look almost like a highway, but it is usually a very narrow road, with only two lanes at best.

Either way, it’s the best road for getting to know the entire island, as it passes by the main points of interest. Additionally, it is open throughout the year, and you won’t need a 4×4 car to drive it.

It’s a good idea to have a detailed map of the Ring Road so that you can see the places you will go through if you decide to visit it. On this map of Iceland, you will also see how long it takes to go around the island. You can check the best Ring Road 10-day itinerary here.

5. Map of Iceland’s Ring Road

6. Map of Reykjavík, Iceland

Reykjavik is the capital of Iceland and therefore one of the places I recommend you visit because it has everything. To make it easy for you to locate the best tourist spots, on the map of Reykjavik below, you can find the most important ones.

Also, in this article, you can find the most important things to do in Reykjavik.

7. Map of Iceland Waterfalls

Iceland is a country full of waterfalls, and some of them are really impressive. Even three months wouldn’t be enough to visit them all, but I hope that, at least, with the following map of Iceland waterfalls, you know where the most important ones are. You can check the 25 best waterfalls in Iceland here.

If you have visited one that is not on the map and it left you speechless, leave me a comment so I can add it.

8. Map of Iceland hot springs

One of the things that impressed me about Iceland is the large number of natural pools with hot springs there. The feeling of bathing in the open air surrounded by wild nature and without being cold is indescribable. If you want to have this experience, on the map of the hot springs of Iceland below, you’ll find the best ones.

I definitely recommend making a stop to enjoy one of the best hot springs in Iceland. Do you know any other that is not on our map of Iceland? Don’t hesitate to let me know so I can add it.

9. Map of Iceland volcanoes + Map of Iceland glaciers

Iceland has around 130 active and extinct volcanoes and as many glaciers. If you want to know where they are, check out the map of Iceland volcanoes and also the map of Iceland glaciers below, which are essential for enjoying the land of ice and fire.

As there are so many volcanoes and glaciers in Iceland, I have surely forgotten to include some on the map, but I would like at least those that can be visited to be included. Therefore, if you have been to a volcano or glacier that is worth visiting, leave me a comment and I will add it.

10. Map of Iceland Cities and Villages

Here is a map of Iceland cities and villages so that when you travel around the island, you can find cities and towns where you can stop for lunch or rest.

10. Map of Iceland Cities and Villages

11. Map of the best places to see Northern Lights in Iceland

Seeing the northern lights is one of the best things to do in Iceland if you travel in winter. However, due to light pollution, not all places are good for seeing and enjoying this phenomenon in the same way. In order for you to have a good memory and the best photographs back home, I have created a map of the best places to see northern lights in Iceland.

As you will see, in addition to points with the optimal conditions to see them, I have also marked the best Northern Lights hotels in Iceland.

Aren’t sure if you are traveling at the best time to see this phenomenon? Here is all the information you need to see Northern Lights in Iceland. Is this your first time seeing them and you don’t want to risk missing them? Here are my favorite Northern Lights tours from Reykjavik.

12. Map of Iceland Golden Circle

The Golden Circle of Iceland is a route of about 186 miles that begins very close to Reykjavík and goes into the heart of the island, passing by volcanic craters, waterfalls, geysers, continental divide, and much more. It is undoubtedly the most touristy area of the island, so here is a map of the Golden Circle of Iceland so that you know all the interesting places that are worth stopping at.

12. Map of Iceland Golden Circle

As I mentioned at the beginning of the article, we return to the island every year to run our Iceland photo tours, so we have tried many accommodations. Here is a map of the best hotels in Iceland, although I also wrote this article about where to stay in Iceland. But if you want to find the best hotels near your favorite attractions at a glance, you can do it with this map of Iceland.

14. Iceland Map in Europe

If you wonder where Iceland is on the map of Europe, I leave you the following map so you can locate it.

14. Iceland Map in Europe

15. High-resolution Iceland map

Are you looking for a printable Iceland map? Then surely you want this map of Iceland in high-resolution that you can print out or see in great detail by zooming in. Thanks to this map, you will not miss a single detail. If you are looking for a map of Iceland as a PDF. this is your best option.

15. High-resolution Iceland map

Iceland map for downloading

Finally, I leave you a map of Iceland for downloading so you can take it with you on your trip. On it, you will find a map of Iceland waterfalls, the road map of Iceland, the map of Iceland hot springs, the map of Iceland’s Ring Road, and more.

To use it on your phone without internet is as easy as installing the Maps. me app on your smartphone and searching for “Iceland” to download the basic information. Then, download our map of Iceland in KML on your phone, and open the file using that application so that all the points indicated appear for you. Done! Road map of Koh Samui

Roads on Koh Samui, as well as throughout Asia, are distinguished by intricate interlacing, and the driving rules here are somewhat different. To prevent driving around the island into a stupor, use this map to study local highways and roads passing through the jungle in advance.

A little advice. Even if you have outlined the route, we advise you to use the navigator. The maps do not always show dead ends and signs prohibiting passage. And the navigator usually warns in advance about such unexpected “turns”. nine0003

Map of Koh Samui piers

If you plan to stay not only on Koh Samui, but want to see other parts of Thailand, visit the neighboring islands. For example, to Koh Phangan or Tao, to Bangkok, Phuket or Surat Thani. And it will take 3 times longer to sail to Koh Tao. The island is good for extreme water activities: diving, windsurfing, snorkeling. And Koh Phangan will be more liked by “party-goers”. The legendary Full Moon Party is held here every month. In addition, near Koh Samui there is a large marine reserve Ang Thong, consisting of 42 small islands, most of which are uninhabited. nine0003

Koh Samui always opens up to its guests from a mysterious side. Here the tourist comes into contact not only with the colorful culture, exotic cuisine and “other” people, but also with the incomprehensible structure of the area. If you have a trip to this resort, be sure to use the maps collected in this article. They will help you quickly navigate the streets of the island and find the right places.

Holidays in February: questions and answers

Where to go on Valentine’s Day on February 14 in Europe?

To avoid breaking the bank by spending a fortune on a package tour to Paris, take a romantic trip to underestimated Europe on your own. Walk hand in hand along the cobbled sidewalks of Prague, immerse yourself in the rhythms of the waltz at the Caramel Ball in Vienna, confess your love to each other while looking at Eternal Rome from the dome of St. Peter’s or wave to Venice: what could be more romantic than gondolas at sunset?
It’s easy to check which countries you can already travel to with our interactive map.

Where is it unusual to celebrate St. Valentine’s Day in Russia?

Go hunting for the northern lights! Together, admiring the polar night is doubly magical. Fortunately, in Russia there are enough places where you can see the most beautiful aurora borealis:
– Arkhangelsk, Arkhangelsk region;
– Vorkuta, Komi Republic;
– Murmansk, Murmansk region;
– Khibiny, Kola Peninsula;
– Khatanga, Krasnoyarsk Territory.
Rent a house away from city lights and expect clear frosty weather. If luck smiles at you, the northern lights will be the most unforgettable Valentine in your life. If not, a weekend away from the city noise among the snow-capped mountains will still be remembered for a long time.
Do you want romance, but don’t feel like going to the Far North? See our list of places in Russia where it’s nice to be together.

At the end of winter, good waves can be found at Bali : Nusa Dua is suitable for beginners, Serangan will be interesting for experienced surfers. For those who decide to get on the board for the first time, the ideal conditions are Sri Lanka – choose Weligama or Unawatuna. From mid-February, the surf season begins at Maldives – spots for every taste can be found in Male.
Diving enthusiasts will appreciate the protected area of Puerto Galera in the Philippines and the sites of the Sumilon and Pescador Islands, where you can meet thresher sharks in February. If you choose Caribbean Sea as your holiday destination, explore the sunken ships in Santiago de Cuba and the famous Queen’s Gardens reef.
See where the borders are already open with our handy interactive map.

Where can I ski, skate or snowmobile cheaply abroad in February?

If native expanses do not attract you, and the Alps are too expensive, take a closer look at Eastern Europe. For example, in February it is good in visa-free Serbia : the Kopaonik ski resort is comparable to Russian complexes in terms of prices, but noticeably outperforms them in terms of service level. Pay attention to Zakopane in Poland and Bansko in Bulgaria – these slopes will appeal to both beginners and advanced skiers.

This summer the blue flag will fly on 59 Canarian beaches

The Association for Environmental and Consumer Education (ADEAC), which promotes the blue flag initiative, on Tuesday named the beaches and marinas that have been honored to display this quality emblem in the coming months, the second summer marked by the pandemic. In total, 59 blue flags will fly in the Canary Islands this season, eight more than in 2020, with new additions such as San Marcos beach in Icod de los Vinos (Tenerife), Timijaraca in Valverde (El Hierro), Santa Cruz de La Palma (La Palma), La Enramada in Adeje (Tenerife). In addition, five marinas on the islands have also received the blue flag. nine0003

This flag recognizes beaches and marinas that meet criteria for excellent bathing water quality, comply with environmental regulations, and have adequate health and safety infrastructure to ensure the health and safety of their users.

Gran Canaria has 15 blue flag beaches . Agaete: Las Nieves. Aguimes: Arinaga. Arucas: El Puertillo, Los Charcones. Galdar: Sardina. Ingenio: El Burrero. Las Palmas de Gran Canaria: Las Canteras. Hierro 2 beaches . Pinar del Hierro: La Restinga. Valverde: Timijaraque (nueva incorporación).

Blue flag centers are also open on the islands. The requirement to become a blue flag center in a municipality with blue flag beaches is a visitor centre, a sea or nature class that includes among its objectives and activities environmental education on coastal ecosystems and/or sustainable development, as well as providing information on the Blue Flag program.

Centers operating on the islands: San Bartolome de Tirajana on Gran Canaria, near the Maspalomas Dunes Interpretation Center; Los Realejos in Tenerife, next to the nature class on the Rambla de Castro; El Pinar del Hierro in El Hierro, near the Restingolita Museum. nine0003

The Association for Environmental and Consumer Education also appoints Blue Trails. Blue trails are trails and landscape features that link Blue Flag beaches or ports and contribute positively to the sustainable use of coastlines. For the municipalities that receive the award, it is recognition of their work to improve and restore coastal natural and ethnological heritage.

There are three recognized trails on the islands. Bahía de El Confital, linking the beaches of Las Canteras and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria in Gran Canaria; sea route from La Punta del Hidalgo to San Cristobal de La Laguna to La Laguna; trail Time from Villa to Puerto de Tazacorte on La Palma. nine0003

  • 41 beaches in the Canary Islands have received Blue Flag status

Publication date: .

The Blue Flag International Environment Program honored the beaches of the Canary Islands with 41 awards. This award was also awarded to 5 ports of the archipelago.

In total, the beaches and ports of 24 municipalities of the Canary Islands have been awarded the Blue Flag. The island of Gran Canaria became the leader in the number of awards for the excellent condition of the beaches with 13 awards. Tenerife has received 11 Blue Flags, Fuerteventura 7, and La Palma, Lanzarote and La Gomera five, four and one respectively. nine0003

Among all the ports of the archipelago, the ports of Mogán and Pasito Blanco of the island of Las Palmas were awarded; Puerto Calero (Puerto Calero) on the island of Lanzarote; the ports of Los Gigantes and the Real Club Naútico de Tenerife of Tenerife.

These awards confirm the quality of the archipelago’s beaches with the best climatic conditions on Earth and explain why the Canary Islands have become one of the most popular destinations in the world for various types of holidays, including beach holidays. Last year alone, about 13 million tourists visited the Canary Islands. We can say with full confidence that the amazing beaches, developed tourist infrastructure, mild climate and the unique volcanic nature of the archipelago served as the basis for this. nine0003

The Blue Flag is an international award given annually since 1987 to beaches and ports whose water meets environmental requirements and is suitable for safe swimming. Compliance with the Blue Flag criteria requires adherence to strict water quality, purity and safety standards. In addition to these key criteria, Blue Flag beaches guarantee vacationers free access to the territory, the absence of pets, clean sand, the availability of showers, and the opportunity to receive emergency care. The Blue Flag nomination is managed by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), which consists of 65 organizations located in 60 countries around the world. nine0003
