Where does this data come from?
Weather data for Barcelona was collected from the MERRA-2 project from NASA, which used a climate model combined with historical data from weather stations around the world to estimate what the conditions were like for every point on the Earth.
For all data based on historical data, we’ve averaged the data from the past 11 years (2010-2020). For example, for the hourly temperature at 10am, we’ve looked at the temperature at 10am on every day in April (e.g., April 1, April 2, etc. in 2010, 2011, etc.) and took the arithmetic mean. We did not smooth the data, so for example, our daily temperature line will have some randomness due to the fact that weather is random in the first place.

Climate and Weather – Weather in Spain in April
Is April a good time to visit Spain?
There is definitely a chance of a sun tan on the Costa del Sol during April, but generally the weather in Spain during April month is wet and mild. The southern coast is the sunniest and warmest area but the weather in spring is still some way off of the sizzling summer conditions for which Spain is famed. April is, however, and important month for festivities in Spain and no matter what the weather, Easter (known as Semana Santa) is celebrated with great gusto.
Climate in Spain in April
Those seeking the sun in Spain in April should head for the coast of the southern provinces of Andalucia and Murcia – the average temperatures in southern cities like Malaga and Seville are around the 20°C mark, and the average number of hours of sunshine to be had during the long hours of daylight (spring brings 13 hours or more of daylight in this region) is between six and seven. For most of Spain April is a wet month, and the precipitation is most noticeable in Madrid, which can experience heavy showers during April, with temperatures around 17°C maximum. Barcelona’s temperatures are similar to Madrid’s during April, but the weather is not quite as wet and grey. The soggiest part of Spain during April is the north-west coast, where cloudy, rainy conditions prevail this month. In the north it’s even worse with only 33% chance of seeing the sun in Bilbao during April, and temperatures hover between 16°C and 8°C.
What’s on in Spain in April
In the week running up to Easter – known as Holy Week – Spain puts on plenty of pomp and ceremony, particularly in the southern cities, to commemorate the Passion of Jesus Christ. Seville is the best place to experience the full impact of the processions, services and float parades that fill the week. Not much happens in Madrid, but visitors can take day trips to Toledo from the capital to witness the Festival there.
What to pack for a holiday in Spain in April
You may well make use of your swimsuit if you are holidaying in southern Spain in April, but elsewhere it will still be too chilly to dare to go bare. Jeans, long-sleeved cotton tops, a sweater or two and a waterproof jacket are advisable.

It won’t take a single day to see all the sights of the city!
The resort has a variety of luxury five-star hotels and cheap options – every tourist will find an option to their liking and affordability. There are also many shops, cafes and restaurants. The colorful cuisine, which has absorbed the features of the cuisines of different nations, is a real delight for a real gourmet. You should definitely try the famous Mallorcan roast, “tumbet” – fried eggplants with potatoes and tomato sauce, local hearty thick soups and delicious pies “cokairos” with vegetables and pine nuts.
As for the beaches, there are more than ten of them in the city, and many of them meet the highest quality standards, for which they were awarded the honorary Blue Flag. During the peak season, from May to September, there are many tourists here. You can try your luck on the beach “Can Pere Antoni”, located just 20 minutes from the Cathedral – however, there are more and more vacationers every year.
The presence in Palma of representatives of different cultures throughout the centuries-old history (the city was founded in 122 BC) has left its mark on architecture: Arab buildings here coexist with gloomy Gothic palaces and Baroque buildings, and the historical center is a labyrinth narrow colorful streets with beautiful houses with patios, family shops and old mansions of noble people. The current boundaries of the Old City are six spacious avenues, where the city walls once stood. Well, the symbol of the city was the strict Bellver Castle, the only round fortress in the country, from the walls of which a stunning panorama opens. Once upon a time, kings lived here and political prisoners languished, but now there is a museum inside and classical music concerts are held.

April 19, 2018
The weather on April 19, 2018 in Palma de Mallorca was with a temperature of 19°C, while it felt 19°C, clear.
April is a beautiful month in Ibiza. The island begins to stir from its winter lull. The sea remains cold, but the temperature builds through the month and life returns to the larger resorts. We’ve looked at the most up-to-date weather data for Ibiza, covering the last 12 years up to 2022, plus we’ve asked our team of travel bloggers for their first-hand experiences in order to answer the most frequently asked questions about Ibiza weather in April.
What’s the temperature like in Ibiza during April?
The temperature is extremely stable in April with average highs of 17℃ and lows just 2℃ lower at 15℃. The UV index will be moderate at this time of year, so not something to worry about for the average person. However, if you’re going to be outside for long periods it’s worth wearing a broad spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen and UV-blocking sunglasses. Remember that bright surfaces, such as water and sand increase UV exposure.
Does it rain in Ibiza during April?
On average, there will be 3 rainy days during the month, amounting to 51.1mm in total. That’s broadly comparable with the amount of rain we see in England during the summer months, and would be considered dry. There’s a small chance that you’ll catch a thunderstorm during your trip.
How warm is the sea in Ibiza during April?
The water around Ibiza is a bracing 16℃ during April and would be considered too cold for swimming. Those who are a bit more hardy or frequently swim in cooler open water might want to take a quick dip. A wetsuit would be advisable if you wish to spend longer than 5 minutes in the water.

Weather in Ibiza for April 2023 ⋆ Weather forecast for Ibiza for April ⇒ Spain
When 2022-23 Golden Globe Race front-runner Tapio Lehtinen was woken by a loud noise, he had five minutes to escape his sinking boat. Translated from Finnish publication Ilta-Sanomat, he shares some details from a cargo ship en route to China:
Lehtinen, 64, managed to lower the life raft into the water, and thanks to the good weather, he was able to calmly wait for the rescuers, who arrived a day later.
He still can’t believe that after careful preparation, the Asteria boat sank in five minutes.
“During those five minutes, the thought that this could not be possible was running through the back of my head. I was able to react to the situation without panicking and without getting nervous, but I also had a bit of a problem with me because the weather was so good.”
After reaching the life raft, Lehtinen watched his beloved boat sink below the surface of the water. After two days since the accident, the cause remains a mystery to him. Asteria was completely rebuilt five years ago before the previous round-the-world sailing organized in 2018.
“It was built as a bomb-proof tank, so that I would never have thought that out of the 36 boats participating in these two races, it would be the Asteria that would sink.”
According to Lehtinen, the boat did not crash into anything, noting how he woke up to a bang from the stern of the boat, which may could have been inside or outside the boat.
“I lived in symbiosis with the boat for 13 months, so even in my dreams I reacted to the boat’s changes.”
It took the skipper about 20 seconds to get out of his cramped sleeping quarters, by which time water was quickly coming in from the stern area.
The boat had three watertight bulkheads in the bow and two watertight bulkheads in the stern, and all the hull penetrations were on the back side of the forward bulkhead at the stern of the boat. If a hose were to break, the leak would be confined to the stern of the boat, which it wasn’t.
“The water was coming from behind at such a high speed that the only thing I can imagine is that one of the biggest openings would have failed completely and filled the rear compartment with water and led to the failure of the watertight bulkhead. But I still wonder if a hole with a diameter of ten centimeters is enough to fill the boat in five minutes.”
MORE: In a blog post by Peter Foerthmann, he speculates how the stern may have incurred significant damage due to the auxiliary rudder system. For photos and details, click here.

About the 2022 Golden Globe Race On September 4, 2022, the third edition of the Golden Globe Race started from Les Sables d’Olonne, France. Sixteen skippers will face eight months of isolation sailing 30,000 miles across five oceans solo non-stop and unassisted.
In 1968, while man was preparing to take his first steps on the moon, a mild mannered and modest young man was setting out on his own record breaking voyage of discovery. He had entered the original Golden Globe. Nine men started that first solo non-stop sailing race around the World. Only one finished. He was 29 year old Sir Robin Knox Johnston. History was made. Navigating only with a sextant, paper charts and an accurate and reliable time piece, Sir Robin navigated around the world.
In 2018, to celebrate 50 years since that first record breaking achievement, the Golden Globe Race was resurrected. It instantly gained traction with adventurers, captivated by the spirit and opportunity. Eighteen started with five finishers.
To embrace the original race, competitors must sail in production boats between 32 and 36 feet overall and designed prior to 1988 that have a full-length keel with rudder attached to their trailing edge. Additionally, sailors have limited communication equipment and can use only sextants, paper charts, wind up clocks, and cassette tapes for music.

Desperate to escape the UK’s grey, wet weather and get some sunshine? From the Maldives to Cuba and many more in between, these are the destinations to visit to get a hit of much needed vitamin D. Not all of the options are warm – but cold, bright sun can be just as restorative. So get your passport, pack your sunnies and don’t forget to grab some suncream…
The Maldives
Swap Mitcham for the Maldives this winter. The Indian Ocean destination is classic honeymooner territory, but there is plenty on offer for families too.
Winter is essentially non-existent here, with temperatures a steady 26-29C throughout the year. Rainy season starts late April and runs until mid-November – so now is the perfect time to hop on a plane.
Cuba
Britain’s bucket-list favourite, Cuba, continues to fascinate, and anyone in need of some Caribbean relaxation should be jumping on the plane this second to spend a fortnight in this quixotic country.
Rapidly modernising as it opens to the world – its relationship with the US continues to be bumpy – now’s the time to experience the old-school charm of this fascinating country.
Daytime temperatures sit between 26-28C at this time of year, and rainy season is coming to an end now.
Greece
Would you rather be fighting the crowds doing their Christmas shopping, or chilling in a taverna? Assuming the answer’s the latter, then Greece is your ticket.
The popular destination has something for everyone – Athens for history buffs, Mykonos for partiers or Santorini for couples. Temperatures sit at a perfectly acceptable 23C at this time of year, dropping to around 10C in January.
Canary Islands
These volcanic outcrops in the Atlantic are what remains of the Spanish empire and the islands, including Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote, are famed for their their black- and white-sand beaches, relaxed way of life and, of course, the African sun.
Soak up the 27C temperatures while sampling papas arrugadas, the potato dish famous across the islands.
Gibraltar
If you want Spanish sunshine but also have a yen for red post boxes and monkeys, then have you come to the right place.
The British Overseas Territory is a unique blend of British and Spanish cultures, and being on the southern-most tip of Spain it also is guaranteed to be summery for longer than anywhere else in Europe.
Also, they’ve got wild apes. What more could you long for?
Sweden
Yes, it’s freezing – but the crisp winter sunshine makes way for one of nature’s great spectacles at night – The Northern Lights.
Stockholm also continues to be one of the coolest cities in the world, and is worth checking off your bucket list in the quieter months.
Madeira
Madeira, comprised of four islands off the coast of Africa, is so good that when we sent a Handbook writer there to cover it, she went back all on her own this year, she’d enjoyed it so much.
Europe is a continent full of rich culture, beautiful scenery, and delicious cuisine. It’s also home to many great vacation destinations for parents wanting to explore Europe with toddlers.

For this post, we’ve gotten some help from other family travel bloggers that have explored Europe with their toddlers. London has great things to do with kids, and although it didn’t make the list, it’s a favorite for many parents.

NORTHERN EUROPE WITH TODDLERS
Table of Contents
Copenhagen, Denmark
Catherine from Postcard Narrative
One of my favorite places to visit in Europe with toddlers is Denmark, specifically Copenhagen.
Not only does Copenhagen have a kid-friendly infrastructure, but compassion toward kids is woven into Danish society, making it one of the best places to travel with little ones. Anywhere we dined, toured, or strolled, people made a point to interact with our social and highly active toddler.
Here are the five top things to do with youngkids in the Copenhagen area:
Find nostalgia and watch your toddler’s eyes light up at Tivoli’s historic amusement park. There is a massive playground any kid will love to explore.
Take a day trip to Legoland or at least make time for a visit to downtown’s Lego store.
Take a Canal Tour.
Burn off some energy at one of the 100+ playgrounds. Many offer community centers with indoor activities in case of rain. We had a blast at Skydebanehaven.
Interact with the animals at the Copenhagen Zoo or Blue Planet (northern Europe’s largest aquarium).
Make sure to enjoy brunch at Mad & Kaffe. If the thought of a sit-down meal with an unpredictable child stresses you out, grab a takeout pizza from the Neighborhood in the Vesterbro district and have a picnic.
Visit between April – July for the best weather and a lower chance of precipitation.
Denmark’s Public transport is a dream, so book accommodations near a station. We recommend the Tivoli area as its train station is a perfect hub for local attractions, Legoland, and the airport.
WESTERN EUROPE WITH TODDLERS
Paris, France
Paris, France
Keri from Bon Voyage With Kids
One of our family’s favorite international travel destinations with toddlers is the City of Lights, Paris! France is a kid-friendly country, and Paris is a great place for les enfants!
After all, many families live there, and there is so much to do there with kids, even toddlers. With so many beautiful parks, many of which have beautiful playgrounds, exquisite food, walkability, and excellent public transportation, toddlers can enjoy this beautiful city too.
Our favorite things to do with toddlers include visiting one of the beautiful gardens, like Jardin du Luxembourg, so tots can stretch their legs and even enjoy some playground time!
Another fun activity is the Aquarium de Paris, where your little one can learn about sea creatures. Plus, it’s a chance to relax a little bit.
For parents that want to take a tour of Versailles, there is a private tour just for families with young children.
You can also take them to the gorgeous Monmarte area to ride the train or visit one of the beautiful carousels throughout the city, one of which is at the base of Monmarte.
Of course, you can visit Disneyland Paris for a day trip, by taking the train from the city! What’s more toddler-friendly than Mickey Mouse?
Disneyland Paris
For dining, the French love chocolate, and when we have visited Paris with our kids, a chocolate croissant is a favorite breakfast treat or snack.
There are many creperies, particularly in the St. Germain area, where toddlers can get a savory or sweet crepe, a family-friendly chain called Flam’s that serves a type of flatbread common in the Alsace region of France, and many brasseries where tots can get a Croque monsieur (a grilled ham and cheese sandwich) and a side of frites (fries).
For the world’s best hot chocolate, stop by Angelina’s on Rue de Rivoli for this special treat. There are many hotels in Paris to stay in, but our favorite is the Crowne Plaza Paris in the Republique area.
If you are traveling with a toddler to Paris, be sure to travel with a narrow stroller, as some sidewalks in Paris can’t accommodate wide strollers. A carrier like the Tula Toddler Carrier is the perfect stroller alternative.

SOUTHERN EUROPE WITH TODDLERS
Malta
Dani from Diapers in Paradise
Malta, a small island nation in the Mediterranean, is a fantastic international destination for toddlers. With its fascinating history, it is no wonder that Malta feels like a perfect blend of Italy and the Middle East.
Malta is truly a year-round destination, as the weather is sunny and hot all the time. But the spring is the best bet for having the most events, slightly cooler weather and more greenery, and avoiding the busy tourist season in the summer.
Some of the best things to do in Malta with a toddler include exploring the silent city of Mdina, which is a labyrinthine medieval walled city with no cars – only horse-drawn carriages!
While there, try out Bacchus if eating in a very fancy medieval dungeon is up to your toddler’s alley.
Another highlight is Popeye Village, which is the set from the 1980 movie “Popeye”. The set has been left intact and turned into a Popeye-themed amusement park. And while that sounds incredibly cheesy, it’s quite well done and a lot of fun for kids.
A few other favorite things to do are visiting the colorful boats of Marsaxlokk harbor, a stop by the Malta National Aquarium and the amazing playground outside of it, and of course – the beaches!
The beaches to the north of the island tend to be the most family-friendly, with Mellieħa Bay being one of the best.
If you plan to move around the island a lot but want to be closer to beaches and stay somewhere walkable, consider staying in St. Paul’s Bay or Bugibba instead of the more popular but closed-in Valletta.
The Seaview Hotel Malta is in a fabulous location and within walking distance of an ultra-popular destination for delicious Maltese food, Tarragon.
Barcelona, Spain
Barcelona is simply a great destination for every kind of traveler. The Catalan capital has plenty of incredible sights to offer, even for the smallest family members.
A must when visiting Barcelona with kids is the impressive Sagrada Familia. The basilica is the city’s landmark and one of the most famous sights in Spain.
A visit is worthwhile even from the outside because of the imposing building’s extraordinary details, shapes, and colors. Here you can walk through the neighboring park to admire the Sagrada Familia from different angles.
Some of the best things to do in Barcelona with a toddler include:
Barcelona Zoo
Sagrada Familia
Park Guell
Casa Batlló
Telefèric de Montjuïc
Barcelona Aquarium
Another great activity during your family vacation in Barcelona is a visit to the beach. Here, all family members will have fun.
The city beach is located just a few minutes’ walk from the center of Barcelona and is easy to reach.
Along the city beach, there is also a long promenade, perfect for a walk. Street artists often build extraordinary works of art out of the sand, which is fascinating, especially for the little ones.
Tibidabo Amusement Park
Another great activity with kids is visiting the Tibidabo Amusement Park, located on the mountain of the same name. Here, you will find a great Barcelona viewpoint and lots of fun rides and fun activities for toddlers.
Catalan cuisine is diverse, so there are plenty of delicious dishes to try in Barcelona.
While there, a visit to a tapas bar is worthwhile, as there is a wide selection of small snacks, such as Cerveceria Catalana. Another great option is Café Bliss.
The best time to travel with children is spring and autumn. This is when the weather is mild and fewer tourists.
Croatia
Dinopark Funtana in Croatia
From Places of Juma
Croatia is one of my favorite countries in Europe and on top of that a fabulous destination for families with toddlers!
This picturesque Balkan country delights with hospitality, the warmth of its people, and their joy in children, but also with the most beautiful landscapes, beaches, and numerous attractions.
In Croatia, you can do a lot with your family. A must for adults are the coastal cities like Split and Dubrovnik, both of which are UNESCO cultural heritage sites. In addition, some of the most beautiful sandy beaches in Croatia are also nearby and perfect for families with small kids!
But it’s not just sightseeing and swimming that’s interesting there are also plenty of kid-friendly activities. One of the biggest highlights for toddlers is the Funtana Dinopark in Istria.
The Dinopark covers nearly 80,000 square meters toddlers will be amazed by the life-size and movable dinosaur figures!
A cool place to visit is Istralandia near Novigrad or Aquapark Aquacolors in Porec, where children of all ages experience their vacation paradise.
Take your kids for a bike ride along the coast or explore the most beautiful spots on a kayak or boat tour. Don’t be afraid to go off the beaten path in Croatia. There is so much to do and see.
We also found the food in Croatia to be delicious! In Pula, there is a lovely restaurant (Restaurant Jupiter) where you can get the best pancakes with ice cream.
You have to visit the pizza restaurant in the “Saloon” in Porec your toddler is sure to love it!
Another highlight is the many lovely family-friendly accommodations in Croatia. My favorites are the mobile homes at Camping Platz Lanterna and the Falkensteiner Family Hotel Diadora in Zadar.
Sicily, Italy
Samantha from The Wandering Wanderluster
Italy is without a doubt one of the most family-friendly destinations in Europe. Sicily is a fantastic family destination for families looking to explore Europe with toddlers.
Deceiving in size, Sicily has a lot to offer families traveling with children of all ages, including even the youngest family members.
Aside from its internationally recognized cuisine that most toddlers will eat with minimal fuss, the island’s main drawing card is the number of children-friendly sandy beaches.
Both shallow and warm during the summer months, parents can relax as their little ones paddle along the calm shoreline, build grand sandcastles or find treasures washed up from the sea.
Sicily also has several family-friendly resorts in coastal towns, including popular destinations such as Cefalu and Siracusa.
Almost all have kid-friendly facilities and swimming pools where toddlers can build their first swimming skills. Many such as those located in Arenella or Fontane Bianche south of Siracusa are next to fully equipped lidos, so you can split your days between the pool and the beach with ease and head back to the hotel quickly for nap times.
For a fun-filled day, you can also visit the famous Etnaland theme park, which has a water world, dinosaur land, and a park with toddler-friendly rides, such as a carousel and teacups.
Families with toddlers should avoid visiting in July and August when temperatures reach over 100 degrees.
For a more comfortable stay, the best time to visit is May, June, or September when the sea is still warm, the sun isn’t as dangerous for little ones, and the crowds are fewer.
CENTRAL EUROPE WITH TODDLERS
Germany
Double babywearing at Burg Eltz
LeAnna from Wander in Germany
Traveling to Germany with toddlers is a surprisingly fantastic destination for the family. After all, what better place to play Knights at real-life castles or visit the actual “Cinderella Castle,” Neuschwanstein, where every age can bring out those Princess fantasies!!
What toddler doesn’t love trains!? Riding on the trains in Germany with kids is often more of a highlight for them than the destinations themselves!
While any time of year is beautiful in Deutschland when traveling with the littles, nothing makes a tot crankier than being cold or wet. So, while it may mean a few more tourists, months like July and even September are ideal for the weather.
Some great places to visit are Munich, the Black Forest, the North Sea, and the Alps, as you’ll find plenty of kid-friendly activities in all of them.
When traveling in Germany, be on the lookout for Biergartens that has playgrounds! Mom and Dad get to have an actual sit-down dinner, and the kiddos don’t have to sit at a stuffy restaurant. It’s a win for all!!
Poland
Karolina from Polish Foodies
Poland is one of the best destinations in the world to travel with a toddler. Why? Because Poles love children!
The best time to visit Poland with a toddler is from April to October. The weather is warm enough for your little one to enjoy the outdoors.
Most of the places you visit are suitable for kids. There is a kids’ corner in almost every restaurant and cafe. High chairs are readily available, so no need to worry about a travel high chair.
Outdoor playgrounds are scattered throughout the country. Walk for 15 minutes in any direction, and you are bound to run into a playground.
Poland is best explored by car. If you stop by any gas station, you can be sure you will have a baby changing table available. If you are still nursing your toddler, you can do it in public without worrying about negative comments.
One of the best places to visit in Poland with toddlers is Krakow. There is a Butterfly Museum that your kid will love, as well as the Illusion Museum.
If it’s raining, visit Krakow’s Water Park, an indoor waterpark that toddlers will love. There are also many indoor playgrounds available in the city, so be sure to visit one of them on a rainy day.
When talking about traveling to Poland with a toddler, we can’t forget about the food. Polish cuisine is mild, which makes it perfect for kids. You can be sure they will love pierogi, the famous traditional Polish dumplings stuffed with fruits, cottage cheese, or meat.
Budapest, Hungary
Palatinus Thermal Bath for Kids
Helga from ShegoWandering
The Hungarian capital city Budapest is one of the best places to travel with toddlers in Europe. The city has a long list of things to do with toddlers.
Budapest is known for its historic architecture, the beautiful Parliament building near the Danube, museums, and the delicious Hungarian food. Hungary is also famous for its beautiful bridges in Budapest, thermal baths, and the Buda Castle.
If you’re planning a family trip to Budapest, you should explore some of the following!
Penguins at the Budapest Zoo
First, the Budapest Zoo, that’s beautiful, the animals are treated well and with good care, and there are plenty of activities inside the zoo for families.
A visit to the Budapest Zoo is a great option, but if you are already in the area, you can also think about the most famous thermal bath in Budapest, the Szechenyi Thermal Bath.
Another great option to explore is the Buda Castle and Budapest War Museum, where there are interactive activities for families with young kids.
Families with toddlers might also enjoy a ride on the Budapest Eye or plan a visit to the summer baths on Margaret Island or the water park Acquaworld.
Margaret Island Music Fountain
On Margaret Island, you can also rent 4-wheel bikes for families and cycle around the island. You can even take a Tuk-Tuk City Tour, which your toddler will love.
A few other places to check out with your toddler are the CSOPA Science Center, Children’s Railway, and Heroes’ Square.
Some of the best food in Budapest that kids will love is the Hungarian Langos with sour cream and cheese, or Nutella, as well as trying some desserts like the Somlói Galuska.
The best place to stay for families in Budapest is an apartment on booking or AirBnB. The safest areas are in the IV, V, VI districts. Those are the central districts that I recommend staying in Budapest with kids.
The best time to visit Budapest depends on your itinerary. Budapest is a perfect destination for the summer. Hungary isn’t as hot as Southern European countries, and you can enjoy outdoor activities.
Although summer is a great time to visit, Budapest is also a destination for the holidays. December is the perfect time to visit the Budapest Christmas Market, which many families love.
Overall, if you want to explore Europe with toddlers, Budapest is a great option to get history, culture, and delicious food.
The Best Destinations For Cheap, Hot Holidays In Europe
Craving a beach getaway? Get your fill of sun, sea and sangria without spending a small fortune with our top picks for cheap hot holidays.
Whether you’re after somewhere affordable to take the family this summer or you want a last-minute mini break with your other half, there’s plenty of locations in Europe that are great value for money. What’s more, most of them offer up warm temperatures all year round…
The Algarve, Portugal
Portugal’s sunny, southern Algarve region often tops lists of cheap hot holiday destinations – and for good reason. As well as being home to dozens of great coastal resorts and cities, it also has some of the best value restaurants and attractions in Europe.
Going on holiday with all the family can be pretty expensive, so why not consider self-catering in the Algarve? Check into one of the spacious mobile homes at Camping Orbitur Valverde that’s found in the heart of popular Lagos.
Alicante, Spain
Spain’s Costa Blanca is another region of Europe with a reputation for affordability. As well as being home to a fabulous selection of sandy beaches, the city is also full of wonderful attractions like the magnificent hilltop Santa Barbara Fortress.
When it comes to food, drinks and other must-haves, you can get away with budgeting under £100 each day for a family of four. Want to spend even less? Stay in our Camping Almafra site that’s just north of Alicante in Benidorm, another cheap holiday spot.
Istria, Croatia
Dubrovnik may be a dreamy destination (especially for Game of Thrones fans), but there are far cheaper places to explore along the Croatian coastline that give you the same mix of sun and culture.
Istria in Croatia’s north west is packed with secluded sunny beaches, plus you’ll find cities like Pula are bursting with ancient relics. Food and drink in Croatia are generally on the cheaper end of the scale, and you can avoid expensive tourist traps by staying at one of our self-catering Istria campsites.
Puglia, Italy
If you love Italian culture and cuisine, you’re in luck as it’s the ideal country for a cheap hot holiday. With hundreds of miles of serene coastline, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to beach destinations – including Puglia.
The southerly region sits in the heel of Italy’s boot and offers up a great combination of idyllic coves and interesting cities like historic Bari and stunning Lecce that’s widely compared to Florence for its beautiful Baroque architecture. Flights to Bari are also very wallet-friendly (typically under £100 return), plus you can make your trip even cheaper by self-catering.
Nice, France
If you’ve got your heart set on France this summer, Nice is the place to go for glorious sunny weather without spending a fortune. Unlike many cities along the Côte D’Azur – we’re looking at you, Saint Tropez – Nice is surprisingly affordable, plus flights to the city are some of the cheapest you’ll find to France from the UK.
Opt to stay within driving distance of the city at one of our brilliant budget-friendly campsites like Camping Fréjus that boasts a great pool complex and over 17 acres of wooded grounds to explore.

Where in Russia to relax with a child in April?
Where to go in April
May holidays and summer are ahead, but I want to have a rest right now. We ourselves can’t wait to leave the office and rush somewhere far away. Let’s see where to go in April 2020 to quench your thirst for spring break.
Saint-Petersburg
Why you should go in April: there is still time before the influx of guests, it will be much more crowded here on May holidays. If you want to walk freely next to the Bronze Horseman and cast a thoughtful glance at the Neva without outside observers, it is better to go to St. Petersburg now.
How’s the weather: +10 during the day. +15 °C, but rain and wind can remind you of themselves at any moment – it is better to take warm clothes and shoes.
Things to do: prove to yourself that you are a creative and intellectual person (go to the Hermitage, Russian and other museums). Make sure that you are not afraid of heights (Isaac’s colonnade will help you). Walk around the squares of St. Petersburg, taking a selfie with the double of Peter I and his magnificent “favorites” in every sense.

Holidays in April 2020 in Russia: where to go?
Coronavirus? Closed borders? Dollar for 80₽? No problem! Find out about the best places to relax in April in Russia. I share my personal experience and tell you where to go in the middle of spring.
Well, friends, they have arrived! The borders have closed, and now the choice before us is simple: stay at home or travel around Russia. Personally, I take this turn of the plot calmly and even with a bit of joy. After all, this is a great chance for all travel lovers who previously bypassed their native expanses to make sure that we also have enough beauties. And many of them are so close and accessible that it is shameless to deprive them of attention. So, in April 2020, they will definitely not let us go abroad, so let’s see where you can go on vacation in Russia.
Attention . Let’s just agree that if an epidemic covers Russia, then we will refrain from any trips and wait out the difficult time at home. Quarantine won’t last forever, let’s travel!
How to save:
Sochi
Crimea
Dombay
Khibiny
Pyatigorsk
Well, let’s start with the simplest and most popular. The Black Sea is good, warm and comfortable. In April, you can safely go on vacation to Sochi or to another resort in the Krasnodar Territory. Yes, and it will be useful for health – sea air is always good, especially when viruses and other ailments are walking. Even a couple of days at sea or in the mountains (Krasnaya Polyana is an hour away) will be a great refreshment and relaxation for you. It’s too early to swim, but these are trifles. Read more about the weather in Sochi in April.
It’s good in the south in spring: there are almost no tourists, it’s quiet, calm and inexpensive – prices are two times lower than in summer. So you can see beautiful places without crowds of people, and relax in a good hotel for little money.
Visit the Sochi Arboretum, Riviera Park, a monkey nursery, a trout farm, or take a ride to the waterfalls. At the end of April, land excursions can already be supplemented with boat trips. If the weather is not conducive to a long stay in the air, go to the museum, stroll through the shopping centers or just sit in a cafe, enjoying delicious food and views of the sea.
Sochi is a big and noisy city. If you want more secluded places, then choose small resort villages. In addition, it is safer during the rampant coronavirus. Read our guide to the resorts of the Krasnodar Territory.

I love Crimea more than Krasnodar resorts. I do not know why. Maybe because he’s not so pop. In spring, this region is especially beautiful, and only at this time you can see the Crimea green. Boat trips begin (you can see dolphins), and all the sights are still resting from tourists, so you can easily be almost the only visitor. Bliss!
We have been to the Crimea many times and have written a bunch of articles and guides – study and relax!

Dombay
I love the North Caucasus! During my autoexpeditions, I traveled through all the republics and fell in love with each one with all my heart. But Dombay is a particularly beautiful place, perhaps even cooler than Elbrus. The mountains there are majestic, sharp, severe. Everyone who appreciates the beauty of nature should visit here. And I’m not talking about Caucasian cuisine, cozy guest houses and crystal clear air, which will allow you to admire the starry sky in all its glory.
I advise you to come to Dombay on weekdays, because every weekend alcohol tourists from nearby regions flock here. The limit of their dreams is a barbecue, a bathhouse and drunken screams until the very night. Real rabble. But when all these goblins leave, Dombai blossoms and becomes the most comfortable place.
In April it is still possible to ski on the slopes of Dombay, and there will be almost no people. Even if you are not a fan of skiing and snowboarding, then you definitely need to climb to the very top on the lift – there you will find simply crazy beauty views. Read more about the seasons in Dombay.

Khibiny
Attention: ski resorts in Kirovsk are closed from March 23rd. Of course, helped our damn coronavirus.
Where to go in April 2020 in Russia if you still want to go skiing? You can go to the Khibiny – low mountains on the Kola Peninsula. Most of the time they are covered with snow, and you can ride on their slopes until the beginning of summer. Ski slopes are waiting for you in Kirovsk, Murmansk region. The trails here are gentle and safe, the prices for rest are low, and it is convenient to get there both by plane and by train.
In addition to skiing, you will find other activities here. Go ice fishing, see the unique flora in the Polar Alpine Botanical Garden, visit the Snow Village, completely built of ice and snow, or the museum and exhibition center with a unique collection of minerals that are so rich in the Kola Peninsula.

Pyatigorsk
Resorts of the Caucasian Mineralnye Vody is one of the best places to relax in April. Here it is already a real spring, the weather is sunny and mostly dry.
For example, Pyatigorsk. There are about fifty mineral springs here, each of which has a unique composition and temperature, which makes it possible to alleviate almost any disease. Who knows, maybe the filthy coronavirus will die under the influence of local healing waters. Be that as it may, it is worth a trip to Pyatigorsk or neighboring resorts. A unique atmosphere awaits you here: aquatic society, drinking fountains with narzan, Lermontov’s places and the charming “Proval”.
Top 10 places to go on vacation with kids in April
The article tells about the top ten places to go on vacation with kids in April. Attention is paid to the diversity of seaside holidays: the Canary Islands, the Dominican Republic, Mexico – trips to amusement parks near Paris and the USA, holidays in Russia along the Golden Ring and Sochi, various excursion programs.
April is a wonderful time. The spring beauty comes into its own, nature comes to life after hibernation, the gentle sun shines. But this is April in Russia. And if we consider where to go and relax in April with a child on a planetary scale, then the variety of choices this month can only be envied.
Wonderful beaches of the Dominican Republic, Cuba, Canary Islands beckon with the kids to go from spring to hot summer. Holidays in April in amusement parks such as Disneyland in Paris or Port Aventura near Barcelona or Universal Park in the USA are doubly attractive because of the onset of spring. And the cities of the Golden Ring of Russia are beautiful and amazing framed by young foliage, just like Sochi with its arboretum and amazing sea air and numerous entertainments for children and adults. So let’s “plunge” headlong into this amazing and alluring April, and look at places where you can go and where to relax in April with children.
The first place, dear, or extravaganza of the Golden Ring of Russia in April
Traveling in April along the Golden Ring of Russia with children is a double pleasure! Such an excursion tour will allow you to relax and see the majestic temples, monasteries, ancient defensive structures, admire the unique Russian nature in all its awakening beauty of April. Going to Suzdal and Vladimir, Pereslavl-Zalessky and Rostov the Great means organizing a real history lesson for your child, a great educational journey.
You can drive your car with a small child to Suzdal or Vladimir, Rostov or Yaroslavl, order a bus tour for the weekend with a schoolchild, and this vacation with children in April will become unforgettable.
The second place, Olympic entertainment – Sochi
As you understand, we are talking about the wonderful Sochi, where the healing sea air, the power of the awakened spring will allow you to combine business with pleasure. After all, the wonderful arboretums and nature reserves of the “resort capital” of Russia, which give a healing effect, coexist here with entertainment for children: water parks, a dolphinarium, an extreme amusement park. By the way, it will be very interesting for adult “kids” to go there and relax! In Krasnaya Polyana and in April at an altitude of over 1600 meters you can safely ski, giving yourself and the kids untold pleasure! So going to Sochi in April to relax is not just basking in the warming sun, you can say hello to the outgoing winter, fiery and hot!
Not to mention the transformed panorama of the city, where you can just have a good rest with your child, walking along the embankment and admiring the grandiose Olympic venues that have completely changed the face of the city.
The third magical place is Disneyland, Paris
What else can you call the famous Disneyland near Paris, flying to which means not just relaxing with a child and riding various attractions, but plunging into the atmosphere of a fairy tale and kindness, participating in numerous costume shows, various interactive events. You can stay in Disneyland hotels so that nothing distracts from the atmosphere of this holiday, but you can also come here from Paris, which is especially beautiful in April.
Seine sparkling in the sun, the Eiffel Tower, the greenery of the boulevards of Montmartre, above which rises the majestic Sacré-Coeur, the magnificent Louvre and Versailles – a wonderful “frame” for the diamond of Disneyland, located in the suburbs of Paris. And the child will also be interested, especially in April, when Paris is more beautiful than ever! Or you can go to rest in Port Aventura near Barcelona or other amusement parks in Europe, and such trips will also be a hit.
Fourth place, entertainment – USA
April is a wonderful time to travel and relax in the United States, as the weather is favorable and the many amusement parks beckon. Whichever one you choose: Disneyland in Orlando or San Diego, Universal Park or any other – everywhere it will be a real holiday in April for the child and for you. The entertainment industry in the United States is developed like nowhere else in the world, so attractions, shows, and recreational infrastructure are at your complete disposal.
And then there’s the wonderful cherry blossom festival in Washington. This is one of the most grandiose spectacles in the world, when costumed processions and fireworks, star parades and performances are held surrounded by cherry blossoms. Both you and your child will like it very much, so it is very interesting to go and relax in the USA in April.
Fifth place, relaxing – Hungary
Not far from home, you can just have a wonderful time with children and relax in the famous thermal pools of Budapest. Moreover, no matter what bath you choose: be it democratic Szechenyi or pompous Gellert – everywhere you will find a great opportunity to relax and improve your health in full.
And in April it is especially great to swim in many outdoor hot thermal pools of Széchenyi, as the air temperature is very conducive to complete relaxation. So your children will be delighted with these bathing in April. And the most beautiful Budapest with the Parliament building and the Fisherman’s Bastion is a wonderful bonus to a wellness vacation.
Sixth place, incendiary, – Dominican Republic
That’s where, following the local always smiling residents, your legs will definitely start an incendiary dance, so this is in the Dominican Republic. The word “sadness” is generally forgotten in this country, where smiles, Latin American dances and, by the way, excellent service in very “cool”, but affordable hotels in Punta Cana, La Romana, Boca Chica and other resorts reign. It will be very comfortable to go here and relax with a child, especially since in April prices are lower than in May, when the flow of tourists increases.
The temperature of water and air will be approximately equal and will be approximately +25 degrees. And there are wonderful trips there, you can go to relax with your child in the Bay of Stars, where you can catch these wonderful creatures and “take a picture” with them, and then go to the magical island of Saona with nature, which seems to have come down from a computer screensaver of the tropics, it is so good.
You and your children will love it there. And you can also admire the whales on the Samana Peninsula, if you go to relax here, go to the extreme Fun-Fun cave, where you can ride horses, climb ropes, and wade the river – the children will be completely delighted.
Seventh place, mysterious – Mexico
This is a real land of mysteries and miracles. The famous Mayan pyramids, amazing canyons, picturesque parks with the desired coolness, all this will be available if you go on vacation here with a child in April. At the same time, the weather is very favorable in April for family tourism, because the water warms up to +22 +27 degrees, in the air – plus thirty, a light breeze blows.
When you have seen enough of the pyramids and paid tribute to the mysteries of ancient civilizations, you should pay attention to the protected area “Croctown”, where your child will see flamingos, jaguars, iguanas, and Yucatan crocodiles in a natural setting. And it’s also good to go to Mexico to relax in April, because at the beginning of the month a beautiful flower festival is held here, and April 30 is Children’s Day. And your children will be congratulated here if you choose this time.
Place 8, adventure – Caribbean
The most unforgettable adventure for you and your children in April is a Disney cruise in the Caribbean or the Bahamas, when, together with famous cartoon characters, you can go to rest on the famous private island of Castaway Cay, owned by studios, admire nature and the amazing sea. But it remains to be seen what is more interesting for a child: the views of the insidious Caribbean or the super show on the ship, held on a cruise. Dancing Mickey Mouse and the beautiful Snow White, pools with huge screens for cartoons, the atmosphere of a fairy tale – that’s what awaits you on a wonderful cruise.
This, of course, is not a cheap pleasure, and it’s a long way to fly to participate in this cruise, but if it doesn’t work, then you can sail along the Mediterranean Sea, which will not be so expensive, especially if you use the services of a budget cruise companies – MSC or Costa.
Ninth place, spring – Tenerife
“Well,” you say, “and why do we need to go from our spring to another spring?” Don’t tell! It is not for nothing that Tenerife is called the “Island of Eternal Spring”, because the weather here resembles spring all year round. But it is in April that all the countries of the world take off their “hats” to the Canary Islands, since the unique mixture of climatic zones on the island this month appears in a particularly remarkable form. Everything is in bloom, fragrant, the majestic volcano Teide does not look very approvingly with its black plateau-eye sockets at the arriving tourists.
Tenerife will also be extremely interesting for a child. Indeed, in addition to the Teide volcano mentioned above, there is Loro Park with a huge number of parrots and a wide variety of animals, Jungle Park with unique nature and animals presented in natural conditions, Monkey Park with very “cool” inhabitants and much more.
It is never boring here, but you need to remember that it is still spring, and the air temperature in Tenerife in April, although it will be about +25 degrees, the water will not rise above +21 degrees. So to go on vacation in Tenerife in April is to swim in the ocean with just such a temperature.
Tenth place, bewitching – Holland
This is the only place where the famous tulip festival takes place in April. And this symbol of the country adorns the parks, attracting a huge number of tourists. Going to rest in Holland in April with a child means participating in this event. The Royal Keukenhof Flower Park, which opens its hospitable doors in March, turns into a real center of tourist attraction for the whole world in April. What kind of tulips you will not see there!
And this real flower miracle will be so joyful, so attractive and bewitching that going on vacation with a child to Holland in April means participating in one of the most memorable events. You can also buy tulip bulbs and reproduce a piece of the miracle festival in your country house and show it to your child.
So, as you can see, there are places to go on vacation in April with a child, and for every taste and thickness of the wallet. You can speed up the passage of time and move into a hot summer, you can, on the contrary, turn it back and return to winter. You can visit exotic countries and the best amusement parks, or touch the history of our country or visit the most interesting cities in the world for children: Paris and Barcelona, Madrid and Rome, Prague and Stockholm. This time is very favorable for family holidays. Good luck, friends!

Where is hot in February? Top destinations for winter sun this month
Which islands and countries are warm and sunny in February? (Picture: Getty)
February is the perfect month for a sunny winter getaway – if you’d rather have a low key January post New Year.
Perhaps you’re simply craving the warm weather amid the winter chill – and fancy planting yourself firmly on a beach for a week or two.
Especially when you consider the UK’s mean (in more ways than one) temperature is a brisk 4°C.
Alternatively, it might be that you’re clamouring for a change of scenery to escape the grey and cloudy UK – no matter if it’s an island paradise, a bustling resort city or somewhere unexpected.
So, where in the world should you jet off to in February for hot weather?
Here are a few bright ideas.
Where is hot in February?
Cancun, Mexico
Cancun, Mexico (Picture: Getty)
Temperature: 23°C (up to 29°C) Sunshine hours: Nine hours Flight time: 10 hours, 40 minutes
If you’re after a sunny – getting up to scorching – beach break during the UK’s winter, Mexico fits the bill.
In February, highs of around 30°C are possible. But you can still expect it to be hot and sunny in the 20s regardless. Better still: it’ll be balmy at night, so you hopefully you won’t need to wrap up.
Choosing where in Mexico to go is the real conundrum, but the city of Cancun, bordering on the Caribbean sea, naturally ticks the ‘beach holiday’ box.
For a bit of culture, travel along the Yucatán Peninsula to Tulum, where there are plenty of beaches, but a Mayan archaeological site can be found along the coast.
If an off-beat city break is more your bag, look up Oaxaca in the south-west or San Miguel de Allende in the Central Highlands.
Lanzarote
Lanzarote in the Canary Islands, Spain (Picture: Getty)
Temperature: 18°C (up to 21°C) Sunshine hours: Seven hours Flight time: Four hours
A Spanish archipelago off the coast of Africa, you can pick from seven perfectly-positioned Canary Islands for a hot February holiday.
Tenerife is among the best known, as are Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote.
If you’re seeking the blazing heat, you won’t find it here in Feb, sadly. However, for the relatively-short flight time, you also won’t find a better place for a few days in the sun, with temperatures climbing to the early 20s.
There’s plenty to do in Lanzarote, beyond the resorts – such as explore Cuevas de los Verdes (caves), trek through Timanfaya National Park, or try surfing at Famara Beach.
Barbados
The Caribbean island of Barbados (Picture: Getty)
Temperature: 26°C (up to 28°C) Sunshine hours: Nine hours Flight time: Eight hours, 30 minutes
The Caribbean island of Barbados is still in dry season in February, so it’s the ideal time to visit – with the average temperature for the month sitting at an ideal 26°C, with possible highs even hotter.
Again, it’s another place where you have several options for how to spend your trip: lay on the golden beaches for a week straight, or combine your time on the coast with a bit of adventure.
The capital city, Bridgetown, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with a fascinating museum about the nation’s history and a bustling shopping street.
Wherever you go, you’ll likely come across amazing food, vibrant nightlife and an abundance of water sports to try.
Turks and Caicos Islands
A beach on Turks and Caicos Islands (Picture: Getty)
Temperature: Up to 27°C Sunshine hours: Nine hours Flight time: 12 hours
Turks and Caicos is an archipelago of 40 islands, located in the Caribbean south of the Bahamas. It’s also a British Overseas Territory.
If you aren’t put off by the lengthy flight, typically with one stopover in Antigua, you could potentially enjoy temperatures of up to 24°C on the island of Grand Turk or a high of 27°C on Providenciales.
Once you’ve chosen an island, you’ll have your pick of luxury hotels, gorgeous beaches and cays, and snorkelling opportunities. Golfers will also be eager to test the famous Royal Turks and Caicos Golf Course.
For adventure seekers, there’s wildlife to admire, including the islands’ indigenous rock iguana and gecko species – plus birdwatching opportunities and the chance to spot humpback whales in the ocean.
Note if you do fancy a trip here, there are still Covid-19 entry requirements in place, requiring visitors to be fully vaccinated – find the full requirements on the FCO website.
The fragrant smell of street food hawker centres is probably the first thing that comes to mind when you imagine Singapore.
Or perhaps it’s the whoosh of Changi Airport’s show-stopping waterfall.
A trip to the South-East Asian city-state wouldn’t be complete without a wander through the futuristic-looking Gardens By The Bay, though, its botanic gardens or a trip to shopping hotspot Clarke Quay.
OK, so it’s probably not the first place you’d think of when you imagine going on a hot holiday in February, but make no mistake – you’ve got a very good chance of feeling the heat in Singapore.
February is slap-bang in the middle of its driest season (December to April), which promises soaring temperatures and minimal rainfall.
According to Holiday Weather, it’s also the country’s hottest month of the year.
Fiji
Turtle Island in Fiji (Picture: Getty)
Temperature: 26°C (up to 29°C) Sunshine hours: Seven hours Flight time: Over 24 hours
Fiji is nearly 10,000km away from the UK – which explains why the weather is so pleasant in February.
Temperatures are regularly in the upper 20s, while the ocean water is prime for swimming at an inviting 28°C.
A once-in-a-lifetime destination, this South Pacific destination has 333 islands – among the biggest and most popular are Viti Levu (where you’d find capital city Suva), Vanua Levu, Taveuni and Kadavu.
You’re guaranteed to see some truly breathtaking beaches, practically plucked off a postcard and placed, unbelievably, right before your eyes.
But for the effort it’ll take Brits to get there, you’ll want to experience as much of Fiji as possible – by hopping across different islands, swimming in the pools of Tavoro Falls, walking through Sigatoka Sand Dunes National Park, seeing the Garden of the Sleeping Giant, and searching for Fiji’s rarest birds.
Punta Cana, Dominican Republic
Punta Cana, Dominican Republic (Picture: Getty)
Temperature: 25°C (up to 29°C) Sunshine hours: Nine hours Flight time: Nine hours, 15 minutes
Slightly closer to home, with a flight time of less than 10 hours, is the Caribbean’s Dominican Republic.
The resort town of Punta Cana, in the east of the country, is a very popular place for winter sun escapes – as it’s home to white-sand, turquoise-water beaches that go on for miles, peppered with palm trees.
Here, you can also try watersports from surfing to scuba diving, or hire a car and drive for 40 minutes to the historic city of Higuey to marvel at the Basilica Catedral Nuestra Senora de la Altagracia.
Drive further still (around two hours, 15 minutes) to reach the country’s fascinating capital Santo Domingo, known for its seafront and Ciudad Colonial historic centre.
Elsewhere in the Dominican Republic, Puerto Plata is also a great place to base yourself for a trip – making sure to travel on the Teleferico Cable Car and to the city of Santiago de los Caballeros, where there is the powerful Monument to the Heroes of the Restoration.
Costa Rica
Squirrel monkeys in Costa Rica (Picture: Getty)
Temperature: 28°C (up to 34°C) Sunshine hours: Seven to eight hours (roughly) Flight time: 10 hours, 50 minutes
Perfectly placed in the middle of dry season, with next to no rainfall expected, February is a fantastic time to fly to Costa Rica – where temperatures can climb into the low and mid 30s.
From the UK, you’ll typically fly into the Central American country’s capital San José, and it’s well worth spending a few days getting to know the city, before heading further afield.
It would be crazy to travel so far and not book a tour that incorporates some of Costa Rica’s breathtaking natural sights: Arenal Volcano, Monteverde Cloud Forest, or the national parks Manuel Antonio or Corcovado.
Costa Rica is also beloved for its sensational array of wildlife, such as sloths, sea turtles, jaguars, scarlet macaws and squirrel monkeys.
If you’re not sure where to start, consider booking a tour via Intrepid Travel, Trailfinders or a similar company to arrange your ideal itinerary and make travel arrangements.
St Vincent and the Grenadines
Kingstown in St Vincent and the Grenadines (Picture: Getty)
Another destination in the Caribbean, St Vincent and the Grenadines averages a pleasant mid 20s temperature during February.
For those looking to top up their tan there are plenty of options here, and no visit to the islands would be complete without a trip to Tobago Cays, the uninhabited archipelago which offer some of the best beaches for snorkelling and sunbathing in the Caribbean.
I f you’re staying in Mustique be sure to check out the super-exclusive Macaroni Beach, open only to guests and island residents – while Princess Margaret Beach and Salt Whistle Bay Beach are also must-visits.
When you’re done sunseeking, don’t forget to stop by the Botanical Gardens – one of the oldest of its kind – and visit the town of Port Elizabeth with its stunning scenery.
Sri Lanka
Fort Lighthouse in Galle, Sri Lanka (Picture: Getty)
Temperature: 27°C (up to 31°C) Sunshine hours: Nine hours Flight time: 10 hours, 25 minutes
Sri Lanka typically has dry and pleasant weather in February, save the northern and eastern coasts.
Which part of the island to visit – or how much of the country you have time to visit – is a real conundrum.
You could start in the capital, Colombo, where many will fly into from the UK, and eventually make your way to Galle – a southwestern city known for its quiet charm, colonial Portuguese architecture, and its Dutch Sea Fort..
A popular tourist trail is the seven-hour train journey through the lush Hill County from Ella, via Nuwara Eliya, to the city of Kandy.
Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (Picture: Getty)
The hottest month is Brazilian city Rio is February, reaching potential highs of 30°C – and water temperatures of around 25°C.
If you go in February the highlight of your trip will undoubtedly be Rio Carnival, which runs from February 17-25 in 2023 and attracts visitors from all across the world with its colourful celebrations.
Away from the parades and the samba dancing, there’s also plenty to explore in the city itself, including the famous Sugarloaf Mountain and Christ The Redeemer statue – and when you’re done taking in the stunning views you can relax on one of the beaches, Ipanema and Copacabana being among the most famous.
The Caribbean island of Cuba is well-known for its major city, Havana, and a love of classic cars.
Candy-coloured Spanish colonial architecture can be found in the Old Havana neighbourhood – but museums, incredible live music, brilliant bars and culture hubs make up the city.
If a city break isn’t your thing, Varadero is probably one of the better-known white-sand beach towns. You won’t struggle to find a place to sunbathe or read a book.
Or go beyond the initial tourist trail to discover the town of Trinidad, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, or make your way to Santa Clara to visit the mausoleum of revolutionary Che Guevara.

The interview with Britain’s ITV channel is due to be released this Sunday.Matt Dunham/APShow MoreShow Less18of18
From the book’s opening citation of William Faulkner, to Prince Harry’s passionate bond with his wife Meghan, you could almost call the Duke of Sussex’s memoir “The Americanization of Prince Harry. “
Bereaved boy, troubled teen, wartime soldier, unhappy royal — many facets of Prince Harry are revealed in his explosive memoir, often in eyebrow-raising detail. Running throughout is Harry’s desire to be a different kind of prince — the kind who talks about his feelings, eats fast food and otherwise doesn’t hide beyond a prim facade.
Like an American.
From accounts of cocaine use and losing his virginity to raw family rifts, “Spare” exposes deeply personal details about Harry and the wider royal family. Even Americans may flinch when he confides that a trip to the North Pole left him with frostbitten genitals that proved most irritating during his brother’s wedding to Kate.
BROTHERHOOD
The book opens with a famous quote from Faulkner, bard of the American South: “The past is never dead. It’s not even past.”
Harry’s story is dominated by his rivalry with elder brother Prince William and the death of the boys’ mother, Princess Diana, in 1997. Harry, who was 12 at the time, has never forgiven the media for Diana’s death in a car crash while being pursued by photographers.
The loss of his mother haunts the book, which Harry dedicates to Meghan, children Archie and Lili “and, of course, my mother.”
The opening chapter recounts how his father Prince Charles — now King Charles III — broke the news of his mother’s accident, but didn’t give his son a hug.
Harry reveals that years later he asked his driver to take him through the Pont de l’Alma tunnel in Paris, site of the fatal crash, hoping in vain that it would help end a “decade of unrelenting pain. He also says he once consulted a woman who claimed to have “powers” and to be able to pass on messages from Diana.
Harry adds that he and William both “pleaded” with their father not to marry his long-term paramour Camilla Parker-Bowles, worried she would become a “wicked stepmother.”
Harry also is tormented by his status as royal “spare” behind William, who is heir to the British throne. Harry recounts a longstanding sibling rivalry that worsened after Harry began a relationship with Meghan, the American actor whom he married in 2018.
He says that during an argument in 2019, William called Meghan “difficult” and “rude” (the kind of insults an upper class Englishman might reserve for Americans), then grabbed him by the collar and knocked him down. Harry suffered cuts and bruises from landing on a dog bowl.
Harry says Charles implored the brothers to make up, saying after the funeral of Prince Philip in 2021: “Please, boys — don’t make my final years a misery.
Neither Buckingham Palace, which represents King Charles III, nor William’s Kensington Palace office has commented on any of the allegations.
ADMIRATION FOR GRANDPARENTS
Harry writes with admiration and some affection about Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Phillip. He remembers Phillip’s “many passions —carriage driving, barbecuing, shooting, food beer,” and above all how he “embraced life,” as did his mother. “Maybe that was why he’d been such a fan” of Princess Diana, Harry recalls.
Meanwhile, he acknowledges being intimidated at times by his grandmother, if only because she was the Queen. She is no more helpful than anyone else in containing the media leaks, but she is often seen as sympathetic to his wishes, never more so than when she approved of his marriage of Meghan.
Harry also sees her as an engaging, even humorous person beyond her otherwise proper bearing. Reflecting on her death last year he remembers whispering jokes into her ear or convincing her to participate in a widely seen promotional video of the Invictus Games, in which she one-ups the Obamas in a sparring contest.
“She was a natural comedienne,” he writes, calling her “wicked sense of humor” a prized confidence between the two. “In every photo of us, whenever we’re exchanging a glance, making solid eye contact, it’s clear. We had secrets.”
WILD TEENAGE YEARS
The memoir suggests the media’s party-boy image of Harry during his teen and young adult years was well-deserved.
Harry describes how he lost his virginity at 17 — in a field behind a pub to an older woman who loved horses and treated the teenage prince like a “young stallion.” It was, he says, an “inglorious episode.”
He also says he took cocaine several times starting at the same age, in order to “feel different.” He also acknowledges using cannabis and magic mushrooms — which made him hallucinate that a toilet was talking to him.
ARMY REVELATIONS
Harry offers extensive memories of his decade in the British Army, serving twice in Afghanistan. He says that on his second tour, as an Apache helicopter co-pilot and gunner in 2012-2013, he killed 25 Taliban militants. Harry says he felt neither satisfaction nor shame about his actions, and in the heat of battle regarded enemy combatants as pieces being removed from a chessboard, “Bads taken away before they could kill Goods.”
Veterans criticized the comments and said they could increase the security risk for Harry. Retired Col. Richard Kemp said it was “an error of judgment,” and regarding enemy fighters as chess pieces is “not the way the British Army trains people.”
“I think that sort of comment that doesn’t reflect reality is misleading and potentially valuable to those people who wish the British forces and British government harm,” he told the BBC.
The Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in 2021, and Harry’s words have drawn protests in the country. Afghan Foreign Ministry spokesman Abdul Qahar Balkhi called the Western invasion of Afghanistan “odious” and said Harry’s comments “are a microcosm of the trauma experienced by Afghans at the hands of occupation forces who murdered innocents without any accountability.”
A REGULAR GUY
Yes, he’s a Prince, but he isn’t above stopping by for burgers and fries at an In-N-Out, or getting clothes from a chain outlet. He’s also a compulsive watcher of “Friends” and relates most to the wisecracking Chandler Bing, played by Matthew Perry. And because he’s a prince, he got to meet another “Friends” star, Courteney Cox, and indulge in chocolate psychedelic mushrooms at her Los Angeles home.
THE REAL VILLAIN
Harry shares painful words about his father and brother, but his real anger is directed at the British media, and at those within the royal circle who cooperated and otherwise stood aside. While Charles remains apparently indifferent to the press, the rest of the family is obsessed with media coverage, Harry writes, himself as much as any of them. He expresses despair over what he calls endlessly false stories about him, the racist caricatures of his wife and of the press’ unnerving knowledge of his whereabouts and private correspondence. “One has to have a relationship with the press,” he is told by the royal staff.
PERSONAL JOURNEY
Harry credits Meghan with changing the way he sees the world and himself. He says he was “awash in isolation and privilege” and had no understanding of unconscious bias before he met her.
The young prince notoriously wore a Nazi uniform to a costume party in 2005, and claims in the book that William and his now-wife Kate encouraged the choice of outfit and “howled” with laughter when they saw it. He was recorded using a racist term about a fellow soldier of Pakistani descent in 2006, but says he did not know the word was a slur and that the soldier was not offended.
Meghan and Harry cited the U.K. media’s treatment of the biracial American actor as one of the main reasons for their decision to quit royal duties and move to the U.S. in 2020.
The book gives no sign that royal family relations will be repaired soon. Harry told ITV in an interview to promote the book that he wants reconciliation, but that there must be “accountability” first.
In the final pages, Harry describes how he and William walked side by side during the funeral procession of Queen Elizabeth II in September, but spoke barely a word to one another.
“The following afternoon, Meg and I left for America,” he says.

How to organize a trip to Mallorca and how much does it cost? On your own in Mallorca: [GUIDE]
Contents
Mallorca on your own? It’s simple!
Interest in traveling to Mallorca has grown steadily in recent years. From year to year more and more Poles visit this island, many fall in love with this place and regularly return to Mallorca. There is nothing surprising. The flight to Mallorca is short and the weather and natural conditions guarantee a heavenly holiday. The island is so big and interesting that you can spend many unforgettable holidays here without getting bored. nine0008 Many visitors to Mallorca visit the island, organizing their trip on their own, without the mediation of travel agencies. Anyone who has been to Mallorca knows that it is quite easy now, and at the same time, it can cost less. However, if you are going there for the first time or have never organized a trip yourself from start to finish, not everything can be clear and simple. In this post, we will try to organize such an independent trip in stages, and also check how much it will cost. Let’s compare it with the ready-made offers of travel agencies and see which option of the trip will be more interesting. nine0008 Those who have not been to Mallorca will certainly use the information contained here to organize their independent trip at an attractive price. Those who have already been to Mallorca and are planning their next trip can find a solution that will help them save a few PLN and organize their trip even cheaper. I have divided the organization of the trip into stages, the sequence of which is not random. By following the suggested order, you will save a lot of time and work on finding the best deals. nine0003
Step One – Departure date
Departure date is usually determined by the weather. Weather is the main parameter on the basis of which we decide on the date of departure. Due to its location Mallorca allows you to travel comfortably throughout the year. The rainiest in Mallorca is October (an average of 4 rainy days per month), and the most windy are January and February (sometimes very strong winds). Regardless of this, each of these months offers excellent conditions for relaxation. nine0008 I was in Mallorca in February (the photos you see on the blog were taken in February). The weather for exploring the island was quite good all the time. Sometimes a strong wind, sometimes even added charm. We had the opportunity to admire the high waves crashing against the rocky shore… An unforgettable experience. A detailed description of the weather in Mallorca during the year is included in the entry. Mallorca – long term weather: air and water temperature, climate, vacation weather, when to go on vacation? nine0020 . If you’re not sure if the time of year you plan to visit the island is definitely right for you, check out this post. There you will find answers to your questions, as well as an annual graph of air temperature, sea water temperature and forecasts for rainy days. For the purposes of our guide, I decided to choose a date around the April and May holidays. Spring in Mallorca is fantastic. The air temperature is then about 25 degrees Celsius and this is the most beautiful part of the summer for us. It’s not crowded here either. nine0008 Of course, the procedure for any other term will be the same. When I was in Mallorca in February, I had a rest from winter fatigue and got a lot of sun. It was delicious! Unfortunately, there are no direct flights from Poland in February. So, I flew in from Berlin. If you live up to 300 km from Berlin (3 hours by car), this option is worth considering. The next step shows why you should consider Berlin and other German airports.
Step two – plane tickets
Air connections are the element on which you depend the most. The number of flights is usually limited, and planes fly only on certain days of the week. Especially if we need a cheap airline. Then the choice narrows even more. You must be flexible and be prepared for the fact that the date of departure will have to be coordinated with the date of departure. You may have to put off your one way trip or the other for a few days to get a really cheap ticket. Of course, it is often possible to fly in exactly on the day we want, but this can cost a lot more. nine0008 Let’s check on our example. Let me remind you, I planned the trip around the May weekend. In this post, I will not detail how to find the cheapest airfare deals. I have already described all the tricks that will allow you to find the cheapest flights in the record: Cheap flights. How to search for cheap flights and cheap flights? [MANUAL] . Here I will only present the effect of these searches. I go to Skyscanner – [click] and this is what I found:
Calendar with prices for air tickets from Poland to Mallorca for April.
I can fly from Poland to Mallorca for PLN 454. This is the full cost of round trip tickets (!!!) for one person. Departure 26 April, return 3 May.
If you decide to fly from one of the airports in Germany (for example, from Berlin), the cost will drop to PLN 241 per person in both directions. Cheaper by PLN 213 per person. At the same time, the vacation date will change slightly to the one at which air travel will be more profitable. nine0008 Departure 21 April, return 28 April. Below is a screenshot with prices from Berlin.
Calendar with April prices for flights from Berlin to Mallorca.
Do you think it’s already very cheap? Then I will surprise you! If you select a departure date in February, it will be from Germany. You can fly both ways for PLN 87 (!!!). Yes! It’s not a mistake! A one-way ticket costs PLN 44, and a return ticket costs PLN 43. It can’t be cheaper! It’s cheaper than leaving Poland for PLN 367 per person!!! For this amount I flew to Mallorca from Berlin in February 🙂 Below is an attractive screenshot.
Super cheap flights in February from Berlin to Mallorca.
Sometimes it’s worth burying the search engine database Skyscanner – [click] , because the effects can be unexpected. And let me remind you that I showed in detail the methods for finding really cheap offers in the post: Cheap flights. How to search for cheap flights and cheap flights? [MANUAL]
Step two and a half – cheap airport parking
I’ll bet most travelers don’t remember this, and certainly not when initially planning their trip. And it’s worth it! Even it’s worth it! A simple example from life (unfortunately, painful and my own) makes it easy to understand the scale of the phenomenon. More than 5 years have passed since then, but I remember the situation well. We took off from Berlin Tegel Airport and didn’t book parking in advance. We were in a rush, so I just pulled into the free parking lot, collecting my ticket at the entrance (typical long-term airport parking). We returned two weeks later. I took the card out of my pocket and cut it off! The device swallowed a piece of paper, purred, and 9 appeared on the display.0019 amount payable: 180 (!!!) euro . Thought I would pass out … … and if I had booked parking at least a month in advance I would have paid a maximum of 50 euros. Cellulose. To this day, we sometimes joke about how smart I was back then. To book parking at airports, you should use an effective tool – the site. Parking leader – [click] . The approximate cost of parking in the immediate vicinity of the Frederic Chopin Airport in Warsaw is about PLN 70 for 8 days !!! nine0008 For the amount I paid at Tegel airport in Berlin, I could park there for the whole year 😀 The price can be seen in the picture below:
Price for a week of parking at Warsaw airport
It is worth booking parking outside Poland on the site. ParkVia – [click] . It works in Polish and allows you to book parking lots in more than 50 countries and 400 locations around the world.
Step three – booking accommodation
When it comes to booking a hotel, it’s a bit easier and more difficult at the same time… such a paradox. The reason is simple: everyone prefers different vacation conditions, so it’s much more difficult for me, as the author of the post, to deal with something universal. On the other hand, the simplicity is that we already know the place and time. All you have to do is enter the relevant data into the world’s largest search engine for accommodation and hotel deals. nine0019 Booking – [click] and ready? Yes, if you know how to search for the best deals, which is not so obvious, although it seems simple at first. Luckily, I’ve already covered a ready-made set of tricks in a separate entry: Cheap hotels to book? Of course! Check out how to find comfortable and cheap accommodation! Barcelona, Rome, Paris… wherever you want! Its content is really worth reading. This is not only a description of search methods, but also a description of how not to be manipulated and how to skillfully select only the best offers. nine0008 When booking, it is worth remembering one important point in Mallorca. Outside of the summer season, it is worth booking a hotel in major cities or in one of the districts of Palma de Mallorca. The reason is prosaic. Out of season, many restaurants and shops simply close. In smaller towns where there is then no tourism, it can be difficult to find a restaurant that suits you. This problem does not exist in Palma and surrounding areas. There will always be something. Overnight in Can Pastilla. This is a city directly adjacent to Palma de Mallorca and actually connected with Palma. There is a direct bus connection to Palma and the airport. Very convenient location. nine0008 Stayed at the hotel Rock Leo – [click] . Comfortable four star hotel. In the comments, almost everyone says that he has excellent breakfasts, and I must say that this is true. The abundance and choice of what is offered for breakfast is simply amazing. During winter, the hotel usually has great promotions and a week’s stay costs PLN 4 for two. That’s almost PLN 1,737 per person per week, or PLN 870 per day for a 125-star hotel with a mega breakfast. Pretty good. An additional advantage is that next to the hotel, on the street, there are free parking spaces, and out of season there is no problem with free parking. nine0003 February offer of the Roc Leo hotel.
Unfortunately, during the period we are considering, from 21 to 28 April, the hotel is a bit more expensive. The cost of a weekly stay for two people is PLN 1912 or PLN 956 per person. It is PLN 137 per person per day. If this price is acceptable for you, then I sincerely recommend this hotel.
The cost of a 2-bed room at the Roc Leo hotel for 7 days in April.
For the sake of curiosity, I will add that during the summer season the Roc Leo hotel is quite expensive. A week for two costs PLN 3, and in July, most of the dates are already sold (December at the time of writing). nine0003
Below are some of the hotel suggestions you should check out if you are thinking of organizing a trip to Mallorca on your own.
Hotel Roc Linda [click] – very affordable accommodation with rich breakfast. If you want good quality at a really low price, this is a good choice. Guests of the hotel emphasize the convenient location, close to everything (beach, sea, connection with Palma and the airport).
April offer of the Roc Lina hotel. Majorca. nine0002 Apartments Embat [click] – studio apartment with sea view … who wouldn’t? Bedroom and room with kitchen. Cysto and comfortable. Free parking for hotel guests.
We offer apartments Embat in April.
Nautic Hotel & Spa [click] is a comfortable hotel at a very affordable price. Who loves more comfort and modernity will be satisfied. For this convenient location (everything is nearby).
Nautic Hotel & Spa offer in April. Majorca.
Of course, the above list does not exhaust the interesting offer of hotels in the area of Palma de Mallorca. I encourage you to browse and search for your dream home. Below I present the interface of the Booking search engine. All you have to do is set the dates you are interested in and start searching the world’s largest database of accommodations. nine0003
Booking.com
Fourth step – renting a car
Of all the steps, this is, in my opinion, the most difficult, especially for those who have never rented a car before. Finding a good rental car is like walking through a minefield. The trap could be anywhere. Perhaps the most valuable advice from a person with experience in this topic. The choice of rental companies is very wide. All you have to do is enter the world’s largest car rental comparison system: Rentalcars – [click] . Each of them has different borrowing rules and different methods for calculating the base and additional fees. If you started to analyze them all, this entry would turn into an indigestible and endless tapeworm. Luckily Mallorca has one of my favorite rental locations. He has short and clear rules. Safe for both the landlord and you as a customer, and great prices. I offer rental package with full insurance (All Inclusive), thanks to which your liability for any damage is reduced to zero and fully covered by insurance. nine0019 No credit card or deposit required to rent a car. You are completely comfortable and have nothing to worry about. To rent a car in Wiberze (because I write about this rental office), off-season I paid 17 EUR / day . I have detailed everything in a separate entry, which You must read before borrowing: Mallorca – car rental without credit card and deposit. Spain . I have described step by step everything you need to know so that you don’t have to worry about anything during your trip and at the same time don’t take money from other rental providers. nine0008 If you prefer to rent through Rentalcars – [click] , the same Wiber offer is even a few euros cheaper there (besides, everything is detailed in the above entry). In this simple way, you have saved several hours of analysis (in several languages) of contracts with attachments, dozens of car rental locations … and in the end you will not be sure that you have missed anything. On our check-out date, from April 21 to 28, prices are unfortunately higher and the daily cost of car rental is 33. 70 EUR . During the high season, the rental price rises to more than 43 euros per day, but then everywhere is expensive.
The cost of renting a car in Viber in April. Majorca.
Step Five – Tour Plan
I like this part of the trip organization the most. I look for interesting places, read about them and put them all on a map, and then I look forward to the trip. Therefore, I made my own itinerary in Majorca, a detailed description of which can be found in the entry: Mallorca – attractions, attractions, practical information. Management. . There you will find a list of the most interesting places on the island, broken down into four neat day trips. Perhaps their layout will suit you, or you can create your own plan based on them. It is possible that the information about the following places of interest, which I present below in the sixth step, will help you change your plan.
Step six – other entertainment and pleasures
Below I have included some offers from the booking portal, where you can find offers of attractions and trips posted directly by their organizers (without intermediaries). Compare the cost of the trip
And now let’s try to quickly summarize what we have received. I propose to do this not for one, but for two terms. The first should be the date we have adopted for analysis, i. e. April 21-28, and the second is a date around the winter holidays (February).
Deadline April 21-28
Summary of main costs: – aircraft: PLN 241 / person. nine0008 – hotel with breakfast: choose 4 **** Nautic Hotel & Spa – [click] for PLN 1743 / two persons, or per person: PLN 817. – daily meals: 15 euros / person (out of season most restaurants can have a good dinner for that amount). Price for 7 days: PLN 450 / person.
Total cost: 241 + 817 + 450 = PLN 1 per person
The cheapest trip (analysis of offers from several dozen travel agencies on the price comparison site) available at the time of writing (December) on the same date, with an overnight stay in a 4 **** hotel, amounted to 1 PLN. nine0003
Self-organization saves you at least PLN 421 per person. Many!
You can check the current price by the link to the list of current offers on the travel agency comparison site: check the current prices – [click]
The cheapest offer in the travel agency comparison system in April.
Dates of winter holidays (February)
Summary of main costs: – aircraft: PLN 87 / person. – hotel with breakfast: choose 4 **** Aparthotel Fontanellas Playa – [click] very highly rated by hotel guests, for PLN 1407 for two, i.e. PLN 704 per person. – daily meals: 15 euros / person Price for 7 days: PLN 450 / person.
Total cost: 87 + 704 + 450 = 1 zł / person
In the search engine of the travel agency, the selection of offers for February is not impressive, but there are interesting offers. The cheapest is PLN 2 per person.
You save PLN 907 per person on your own travel arrangements in February. Mountain of money! nine0020
A list of current offers for February can be found at: check current prices – [click]
The cheapest holiday offer in February. Mallorca
Excursion cost
Here it is enough to compare the prices for visiting the island in two versions: by rented car and in the form of additional excursions. However, keep in mind that during basic optional trips you will not see all the places that you will see driving alone. Driving alone gives you more freedom and opportunity. nine0008 How does it look specifically in terms of costs?
Self-service car rental
The daily rent is EUR 34 in April (EUR 19 in February). We rent a car for at least 4 days. Thus, the price in April was 136 euros (in February – 76 euros). During your trips, you will burn about 40 liters of fuel at 1.5 euros per litre. The total cost of fuel is 60 euros. Entrance fees: approximately 60 euros for 2 people. Total cost of travel when visiting the island: – EUR 256 in April (for 2 people) – EUR 196 in February (for 2 people)
Optional trips
I have searched for travel offers on several sites and the prices are generally similar. Sometimes they differ by +/- 10 euros due to minor differences in the program. In order not to artificially inflate costs, I took the cost of cheaper versions. If you want to get closer to what you see on your own, you will have to go on 4 trips: 1. Roundtrip around the island (mainly Sierra de Tramuntana, Soller, Sa Calobra) – cost about 50 euros per person. nine0008 2. Valdemosa (Chopin) – approximately 40 euros per person. 3. Drach Caves – about 50 euros per person. 4. Cape Formentor – approximately 30 euros per person.
Total cost of additional trips: 2 x 50 + 2 x 40 + 2 x 50 + 2 x 35 = 350 euros for 2 people.
Visiting the island on your own is 94 euros cheaper in April and 154 euros cheaper in February.
Two Extreme Models of Leisure and Sightseeing
To sum up, let’s try to combine two completely different ways of sightseeing. Compare April’s trip with a travel agency and side trip sightseeing to February’s self-drive trip and self-guided sightseeing in a rental car. nine0003
