Weather in North Cyprus
Weather in North Cyprus
Weather in North Cyprus:
In North Cyprus Mediterranean type of climate, which is characterized by long, hot and dry summers, short autumns and springs, short, cool, rainy winters. From mid-May to mid-October, the sun shines an average of 11 hours a day. Daytime temperatures rarely drop below 22°C in spring, but rise to 35°C or more in June, July and August. But the heat is not felt, especially if you are on the seashore, the cool sea breeze makes this weather especially pleasant.
It usually rains in Northern Cyprus from November to February. Atlantic air masses bring the long-awaited humidity to the territory of Cyprus, which turns into amazing greenery in spring. Usually the amount of precipitation does not exceed 400 mm, and snow and ice are practically not known in Cyprus. Strong winds are also characteristic of winter. Humidity averages 40% -60%, slightly lower in summer, slightly higher in winter.
The climate on the coast is not as harsh as in the interior of the island, due to the humidity that the sea brings. The sea temperature does not drop below 16°C in winter, but in August it can rise to 28°C.
Spring and autumn are short seasons, the weather is changeable, with heavy rains and strong westerly winds. In autumn, the temperature gradually drops and warm rains begin.
From mid-May to mid-September, the sky is cloudless, the humidity is low, so the heat is easily tolerated. Most of the rivers are filled with water only during heavy rains, mostly in Cyprus the rivers are dry. During the wet winter, Cyprus turns into a bright green island. By June, the colors change – yellow and brown appear. But even the hot sun cannot completely change the beauty of the island, it remains the same all year round, covered with a bright carpet of flowers, shrubs and trees. In general, if we talk about weather in Northern Cyprus , it can be compared with the climate of southeastern Spain, but it is drier and warmer when compared with the south of France.
When planning your trip to Cyprus, pay attention to the following points:
December-January : Although this time is considered the winter period for Cypriots, the sun continues to shine and warm. At this time of the year, you should be prepared for any weather. It is cold in the evening and at night, so do not forget warm clothes, but certainly not fur coats. February-March : Rainy season. Sometimes it is cool in the evening, however, there are still enough warm sunny days.

Lanzarote Airport Transfer (ACE), Spain
Lanzarote Airport is also known as Arrecife Airport, located in the municipality of the same name, 5 km from the administrative center. The airfield is able to receive aircraft that ply within the country, as well as international regular and seasonal flights. You can book a transfer or taxi on the island of Lanzarote from the airport on the Aktis.Taxi website.
Lanzarote Airport
Lanzarote Airport was opened for civilian use in 1946. A year later, the airfield was officially opened to provide flights within the country. In 1969, construction began to improve the airport, a new terminal was opened to meet the needs of passengers. In 1970, the airport was reopened after renovations.
Now Lanzarote Airport is one of the international airports of the Canary Islands. About 7 million passengers use the airport services annually. In 2017, a record number of passengers were registered.
Infrastructure
The airport has everything you need: a playroom for children, a room for mother and child, a waiting room, a cafe, a bar and a restaurant, shops and souvenir shops. In addition, here you can rent a car, exchange currency, book a tour.
Terminals
There are two terminals on the territory of the airport:
The first one provides international transportation, which makes up 60% of all traffic and connects the island with the cities of the EU countries.
Second – provides flights within the country, as well as flights between the islands of Spain.
Contacts and opening hours
Full name: Aeropuerto de César Manrique-Lanzarote
IATA code: ACE
ICAO code: GCRR

What to choose: transfer or local taxi
Local taxi, according to many tourists, is an excellent option as you can get from the airport of the island Lanzarote to the city center, hotel or resort village. At the same time, it is impossible to choose the car that is best for you: which car will arrive in this one and you will go. The cost of a taxi depends on many factors, and as for additional services, they are provided only for a fee.
Transfer from Lanzarote Airport
This type of transport can be booked before the trip, its cost is fixed, and you choose the route and car yourself. The driver will meet you at the airport with a sign, help with luggage and accompany you to the hotel reception. Thus, a pre-booked taxi from Lanzarote Airport will cost less (or about the same), but its quality will be much higher. You can make a reservation right now on the Aktis.Taxi website.
Cost
You can order a transfer from Lanzarote airport in advance on the Aktis.Taxi website. Here you can make a reservation and calculate the approximate cost of the trip. The cost of the trip depends on factors such as: car class, distance between the point of departure and arrival, the number of passengers.

Everything You Need to Know
Planning a trip to Switzerland and wondering if April is a good time to visit? Even though there’s no bad time to take a Swiss vacation, April can be a tricky month to plan around.
April is arguably the most “in-between” month of the year in Switzerland. Certain parts of the country are in the last phase of winter. Others are in the earliest phase of spring.
This guide will tell you everything you need to know about what to expect when you visit Switzerland in April. Whether you want to know the average weather forecast, ski tips, or things to do, we’ve got you covered.
Weather
April weather in Switzerland tends to be much more unpredictable than other months. Most years, the first half of April can be counted as the tail end of winter. Things start to look and feel more springlike as the month goes on.
Altitude is the single biggest factor to consider when you’re planning around the Switzerland’s April weather. The average temperature, snowfall, and rain will be totally different depending on how high or low you are.
Zurich, for example, has an elevation of 1,339ft (408m). You can expect average April temperatures in Zurich to range from about 40˚F (4˚C) to about 57˚F (15˚C).
Compare this to an area with higher elevation, like Zermatt. April average temperatures in Zermatt range from about 28˚F (-2˚C) to about 45˚F (7˚C).
Rainfall is definitely something to expect in April. It varies from region to region, but you can safely expect to encounter precipitation during 10-20 days out of the month.
Again, April weather in Switzerland is quite unpredictable. It’s smart to make decisions based on averages, but always keep in mind that a particular week (or even the entire month) can look very different from one year to the next.
Snow & Skiing
Much of Switzerland’s snow will be found at higher elevations by the time April begins. A small amount of snow typically occurs in the lower areas, but it’s mostly negligible.
You’ll definitely want to stick to the high-altitude areas if snow and snow-related activities are your priority. You should also aim for the earliest part of April, as snow is much less reliable at any location later in the month.
On the bright side, skiers can potentially encounter some very pleasant temperatures and find that they are almost alone on the mountain. It’s certainly not considered peak season and most of the ski traffic will be gone.
Best Switzerland Ski Resorts in April
Zermatt
Verbier
Saas-Fee
Andermatt
St. Moritz
All of the resorts on this list can usually be counted on for decent late-season skiing. Zermatt, famously, is one of the few resorts in the world that remains open for skiing 365 days a year. This is thanks to the glaciers at Zermatt’s highest peaks.
Affordability & Crowds
April is one of the best times to visit Switzerland if you want to find good deals and low crowds. At this point in the year, the ski season will have mostly wrapped up and the spring/summer tourist season won’t yet be in full force.
You’ll be able to find some cheaper rates for hotels throughout the month of April if you look around. Keep in mind though that many of the hotels in the mountains will be closed now that the ski season has ended, especially from the last half of April on.
Travel around the country will be very comfortable. Not that it’s ever uncomfortable, but you certainly won’t have to ever worry about feeling cramped on trains or buses.
Best Things to Do in Switzerland in April
Here’s a quick list of some of our favorite places to visit and things to do in April in Switzerland. The locations and activities listed here a great starting point for figuring out which region of Switzerland works best for your trip.
Visit Ticino
Ticino is an Italian-speaking region of Southern Switzerland that tends to experience spring earlier than other regions. Ticino’s most notable feature is Lake Lugano, named after the city of Lugano, located on the border of Switzerland and Italy. Lake areas in Switzerland are one of the best places to see early spring blooms and greenery. The city of Lugano is the region’s top destination and is home to numerous sights and historical attractions.
Visit Zermatt
Zermatt is a Swiss town that really needs no introduction. It’s also a wonderful place to visit pretty much any time of the year. Early April in Zermatt is likely to still feel the last effects of winter, while late April will start bringing the first stages of spring. Either way, you’ll find plenty to see and do. Taking the cable car to the top of the Klein Matterhorn delivers incredible views of the Matterhorn and the surrounding mountains. Ski conditions will vary from year to year, but you can definitely still find some skiable slopes. Hiking can be hit or miss, with the first days of spring bringing muddy conditions in the mid-to-low elevations.
Visit Lucerne
Lucerne is a good choice in April. The weather tends to be a bit nicer than what you’ll find in many other areas. There is also more to do in and around the city. Lake Lucerne is the #1 natural attraction and a boat ride is a great way to spend an afternoon. The Mt. Pilatus and Titlis cable cars stay open throughout spring and are solid must-see’s.
Hiking
Many of Switzerland’s best hiking trails begin opening sporadically throughout the month of April. Depending on the weather, you shouldn’t have a problem finding a good hikes available in any region. The downsides are that it’s very likely for other trails to remain closed and many open trails will be muddied from melting snow. Lower-lying trails are your best best during early spring, as things tend to get muddy as you reach middling elevations.
Celebrate Sechseläuten in Zurich
Sechseläuten is a festival unique to Zurich that celebrates the start of spring (and end of winter). The celebration takes place on the 3rd Sunday in April, so this isn’t an option for travelers visiting early in the month. The festival famously ends with the Burning of the Böögg, a handmade snowman effigy packed with explosives. Here’s a link to more info on Sechseläuten on Zurich’s official website.
Conclusion
You’ve probably notice a recurring theme in this guide: April in Switzerland is a bit unpredictable. The weather, attractions, and general state of tourism are in the middle of change.
The best part about visiting during the low season is undoubtedly the low crowds and subsequently lower prices. You won’t be dealing with nearly the amount of people at popular destinations that you’d find in peak winter season or summer season.
The downside to visiting in the low season is that you’ll find that many attractions, cable cars, and trains are closed until summer or even winter. This is definitely something to account for ahead of time, as you don’t want to plan around an activity only to find it’s closed.
Our recommendation for an April Swiss vacation is to stick to the lowest or the highest elevations. Travelers that want to experience springlike conditions will find the best weather, blooms, and generally green scenery in the lakes and other low-lying areas. Skiers and snow seekers should plan on visiting a higher elevation area like Zermatt.
Let us know if you decided to take an April trip to Switzerland! We’d love to know what you personally enjoyed about the season, along with the things you could have done without.

Sea temperature
April is an ideal month to visit Fuerteventura. Warm temperatures by day and night and the sea is warm enough to swim in. The wind can sometimes whip up off the Atlantic, so pack a hoodie, just in case. We’ve looked at the most up-to-date weather data for Fuerteventura, covering the last 12 years up to 2022, plus we’ve asked our team of travel bloggers for their first-hand experiences in order to answer the most frequently asked questions about Fuerteventura weather in April.
What’s the weather like in Fuerteventura in April?
During our stay the weather was 19-21 degrees Celsius each day. We had sunshine for the entire week of our stay. It was warm enough for sunbathing in the middle of the day, but slightly cooler in the mornings and evenings. It was the perfect temperature for exploring the island and taking day trips without being uncomfortably hot.
Answered by Travel Vixta
What should I pack for a holiday in Fuerteventura in April?
I recommend packing a light and comfortable outfit for the day, such as a dress or maxi dress, or shorts and a vest for exploring. It’s warm enough in the day in the sunshine to wear summer clothes, including sandals as footwear. Keep a cardigan handy if you’re taking a boat trip or incase of a windy day or cloud cover which can make it suddenly feel a lot cooler. A light cardigan is also perfect for the evenings and early mornings. We had bright sunshine everyday, so pack your sunglasses and also swimwear if you plan to lounge around by the pool or on the beach. The pool and sea just might be slightly cold at this time of year, unless your hotel has a heated pool!
Answered by Travel Vixta
What should I consider when booking a Fuerteventura holiday in in April?
If you’re planning to do water sports then the sea is still quite cool in April, around 18 degrees Celsius, so you might want to pack your wetsuit if you have one! The Easter holidays often fall in April making the school holidays a busier time to visit. Opt for dates outside of the Easter holidays if you prefer a quieter holiday with less people and families about.
Answered by Travel Vixta
What’s the temperature like in Fuerteventura during April?
The temperature is extremely stable in April with average highs of 20℃ and lows just 3℃ lower at 17℃. The UV index will be moderate at this time of year, so not something to worry about for the average person. However, if you’re going to be outside for long periods it’s worth wearing a broad spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen and UV-blocking sunglasses. Remember that bright surfaces, such as water and sand increase UV exposure.
Does it rain in Fuerteventura during April?
The answer is no. Fuerteventura is typically bone dry in April. You’re not likely to see a thunderstorm during your trip.
How warm is the sea in Fuerteventura during April?
The water around Fuerteventura is around 19℃ during April. It will feel a little on the cool when first entering, but you’ll warm up quickly. Most kids will have no problem with this temperature, but those who feel the cold are unlikely to want to swim.

The Canarian potatoes recipe: How to make Papas Arrugadas
Papas arrugadas. They may look as though they’re just potatoes with more wrinkles than Mick Jagger and a crusting of salt on the top but…No, hang on, it’s true. The recipe boils down (ho-ho!) to potatoes and, er, salt. Some daring souls throw in a splash of lemon juice but I suspect that’s because they feel embarrassed to list a “recipe†with only two ingredients….

In Puerto Rico, the weather is a balmy average of 80°F – 85°F year-round. Looking at the average temperatures and rain forecast on the weather channel or your favorite website, won’t really give you the necessary information for planning a great vacation. Perhaps you saw the 10-day forecast, and you see rain just about every day, and you start worrying about not having that perfect blue sky. The truth is that it typically rains every day, somewhere on the island.
Read on, we’ll tell you what the weather is like from a local’s perspective, along with great tips on enjoying Puerto Rico rain or shine. This weather guide is not written by a meteorologist, just two Puerto Rico lovers, that love blue skies and great weather. We take all the photos on this travel guide, so we have learned by trial and error how to get around the rain and head to the sunshine for those blue skies. We do love the rain, and we often find something to do when it does. If you happen to be here during a rainy afternoon, don’t worry, it rarely lasts long enough to ruin your day, the plus side is that you’ll see more dramatic and deep colors on the sunsets on the west coast.

Beating the rain
If you vacation in Puerto Rico during the rain season, our best advice is to get up as early as you can to enjoy the beach, rain typically starts early afternoon. A few small hotels and inns, especially on the islands of Vieques & Culebra close the hotel in the months of September through October to make renovations and major maintenance. Summer is actually the high season for residents since school age children are off school. Some of the best vacation deals are during this time of the year with hotels and airlines trying to fill up rooms and seats during this low travel season.

Our waters are not only in beautiful shades of turquoise, emerald green, navy and cerulean blues, they’re also nice and warm, even during winter months. During the winter, the water is an average temperature of 75°F. By summer, the water temperature warms up to an average of 85°F, yet feels extremely refreshing when your skin is caressed by the cooling breeze.
Culebra and Vieques have clear waters all year round, but in the summer months, they’re incredibly clear, warm, and calm with virtually no waves (during normal weather).
If you love snorkeling, the water is clearest and calmer during the months of June, July & August. Escambron Beach in San Juan, right in the capital city of San Juan is surprisingly good all year round. Steps Beach in Rincon, one of the best surfing beaches becomes one of the best snorkeling beaches during the summer months.
Top Rated Snorkeling Tours in Puerto Rico
When you do a search on Google for “Puerto Rico Weather”, Google shows you the weather in the capital city of San Juan. San Juan is located on the northeast coast of Puerto Rico which typically gets a little more rain than the southwest coast of Puerto Rico.
East Coast of Puerto Rico
When the weather is “normal”, the east coast is a wonderful place to be. Compared to the rest of the island, it feels more breezy like the north coast. If you were unlucky to be here during a tropical storm, you’ll feel it more on the east coast of the island. Overall, the east offers beautiful tropical weather all year round under normal conditions.
Southwest region
Temperatures are warmer in the southwest region of Puerto Rico with less rain. On the southwest, you’ll find the Guanica Biosphere Reserve (commonly known as the Guanica Dry Forest), which only gets about 29 inches of precipitation per year. The town of Cabo Rojo and Guanica is known for great weather all year round, dryer flora, and less rain than most places around the island. If you’re planning on traveling during hurricane season and want to play it safe, head to the west coast of Puerto Rico. Tropical storms and hurricanes typically come in from the east, the west coast sees less rain and damage when compared to the rest of the island. Again, the difference is not big enough to keep you from staying at the destination that appeals to you most, it only makes a difference during bad weather or a heavy rain season.
The Offshore Islands
The offshore islands of Vieques & Culebra: Culebra has a dryer climate with excellent weather. Vieques is lusher and gets more rain than Culebra. As the main island of Puerto Rico, rain is typically sporadic and it doesn’t last all day. The best thing to do is to enjoy the beach in the morning, most showers occur in the afternoon.

Grand Canaria | TheNews.kz
from Tourism News
Grand Canaria is not the largest of the Canary Islands, but it is quite famous and beloved especially by tourists from England and Germany. The shape of the island is also unusual: if all the other islands of Spain have an elongated shape, then Gran Canaria is a rounded island.
The landscape of Grand Canaria was also affected by a volcano. But the last volcanic eruption here was a very long time ago. Now Grand Canaria is the most beautiful and very green Canary Islands, where outlandish flowers, palm trees and shrubs grow. However, the southern and northern parts are significantly different. So the southern coast is covered with golden sand and sand dunes, in the north of Gran Canaria volcanic rocks, rocky coves and rocky cliffs predominate.
The island is extraordinarily beautiful and you will want to come here again. Here at Grand Canaria you can enjoy the gentle waters of the ocean, nice and less crowded beaches than in Tenerife and sharp natural contrasts.
Resorts of the island of Grand Canaria: All the main resorts are located in the southern part of the island, with the exception of the capital Las Palmas: Maspalomas, Puerto Rico, Puerto de Mogan.
Maspalomas is the southernmost part of the island of Gran Canaria and the most famous tourist center. It is thanks to the beautiful golden beach, sand dunes and excellent climate that the resort has become so popular with tourists. The resorts of the Maspalomas area include Playa del Inglés and Meloneras, Baia Feliz and Playa del Aguila, San Agustin and Campo International.
All these resorts are beautiful in their own way, as Campo International is known for its luxurious hotels, Playa del Inglés is a favorite place for English youth, and Playa del Aguila is suitable for families.
Puerto Rico is known for its port, next to which yachts and tourist boats are moored. Also from the port of Puerto Rico you can make exciting sea excursions, rent a yacht or go on a sea excursion. The beach in Puerto Rico is small and completely filled with vacationers during the season.
Puerto de Mogán is famous for its canals and bridges and is a bit like Venice. There are few hotels in Puerto de Mogan, but there are excellent inexpensive fish restaurants.
Beaches in Gran Canaria: Despite the fact that the total length of the coastline of the island exceeds 230 kilometers, there are not as many equipped beaches as we would like them to be only 15 kilometers. The main part of the equipped beach line falls on the beaches of the Maspalamos resort. There is also a good beach near the capital Las Palmas. Along with equipped beaches, where you can buy sunbeds and deck chairs for rent, the island has small wild beaches located in rocky coves.
Entertainment in Grand Canaria: The entertainment industry in Grand Canaria is very well developed. There are also sports activities on the beach, and a water park, and an amusement park, and a theme park, as well as interesting excursions to the national park and the cactus park. The resort of Playa del Inglés has the best discos and nightclubs of the island, the Campo Internationale golf courses, the Playa del Aguila Karting Center.
Excursions to Grand Canaria: Gran Canaria is a very interesting island of Spain in terms of excursions. Here you will be offered or you can go on your own on a variety of excursions, these are bus excursions, boat trips around the island, and visits to various fascinating parks.
If you want to get to know the island, then buy a sightseeing tour. During which you will visit the capital of Grand Canaria, the city of Las Palmas, see the sights of its strange part, the Cathedral of St. Anne and the Bishop’s Palace.
One of the most exciting excursions is the excursion to Palmitos Park. The park has a large collection of exotic plants, a pavilion with butterflies and birds. The cost of the tour includes performances of parrots and birds of prey.
The kids in you may ask to go with them to Aqualand Maspalomas. This is the largest water park in the Canary Islands. And you can ride roller coasters and other attractions, play bowling in the Holiday World entertainment complex.
Do you know that until now the locals of Gran Canaria continue to live in caves, as in the primitive age. You can get acquainted with their life by going on an excursion to the Guayadeque Gorge.
Also on the island is the Sioux City theme park, built in the style of the wild west. In the evenings, tourists will be shown cowboy performances.
Weather on the island of Gran Canaria: The mountain range has divided the island into two parts, and accordingly the weather in the southern and northern regions of the island is different. So on the south coast, where the most famous resorts such as Maspalomas, Puerto de Mogan and Puerto Rico are located, the season lasts all year round.
It is very comfortable here in winter, you can sunbathe in November and February. The air temperature during 4 months (November, December, January and February) is approximately the same and is about + 22-24 C. What can not be said about the northern regions with the capital Las Palmas, it is slightly cooler there (by 2-3 C and possible precipitation).
The active beach season in the southern regions starts from the end of April at the beginning of May, and in the northern regions from the end of May to the end of October. The largest influx of tourists throughout the island is observed from June to September, the weather is consistently warm. Although, if you want to sunbathe in February and March in the north of the island, then you will succeed, many vacationers even swim (the water temperature is about +19 C).

We base the humidity comfort level on the dew point, as it determines whether perspiration will evaporate from the skin, thereby cooling the body. Lower dew points feel drier and higher dew points feel more humid. Unlike temperature, which typically varies significantly between night and day, dew point tends to change more slowly, so while the temperature may drop at night, a muggy day is typically followed by a muggy night.
The chance that a given day will be muggy in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria is essentially constant during April, remaining around 1% throughout.
For reference, on September 20, the muggiest day of the year, there are muggy conditions 46% of the time, while on January 13, the least muggy day of the year, there are muggy conditions 1% of the time.

We draw particular cautious attention to our reliance on the MERRA-2 model-based reconstructions for a number of important data series. While having the tremendous advantages of temporal and spatial completeness, these reconstructions: (1) are based on computer models that may have model-based errors, (2) are coarsely sampled on a 50 km grid and are therefore unable to reconstruct the local variations of many microclimates, and (3) have particular difficulty with the weather in some coastal areas, especially small islands.
We further caution that our travel scores are only as good as the data that underpin them, that weather conditions at any given location and time are unpredictable and variable, and that the definition of the scores reflects a particular set of preferences that may not agree with those of any particular reader.

Data source and citation
Raw data for the calculations made to find the sea surface temperature in Calas de Mallorca comes from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and their 1/4° daily Optimum Interpolation Sea Surface Temperature.
The water temperature data is constructed by combining observations from different platforms (satellites, ships, buoys, and Argo floats) on a regular global grid. A spatially complete sea surface temperature map is then built by interpolating to fill in gaps in the data.

Weather, What to Expect & Tips
Are you thinking of visiting Portugal in April and wondering what it’s like? We have been to Portugal in April several times, both on the mainland and also on Madeira Island. In this article, we share our experience and tips for your visit.
What to expect, where to go, and what to know when planning a trip to Portugal in April. Find out!
Weather
Portugal has relatively mild winters and hot summers. Spring is a shoulder season and is a great time to visit!
In April, average daytime temperatures in Portugal are around 18-20°C (65-68°F). Rain isn’t uncommon, but mostly, you can expect beautiful sunny skies. Sometimes temperatures rise to summer-like 25°C (77°F), which is almost too warm for exploring the cities.
Our experience: We visited Portugal in April several times. During one of those trips, in the first half of April, we had sunshine for 10 days non-stop, and it was warm enough to wear t-shirts and shorts. Another time, in the middle of April, we had a bit colder weather and it rained once or twice over the course of two weeks. Usually, we needed a sweater during the day and even a rain jacket on a few occasions in the evening.
Alentejo Coast in Portugal in April. We had cold and rainy days, but also beautiful sunny days on that trip?
Best Places to Visit
The whole of Portugal can be visited in the spring, however, some places are nicer this time of the year than the others.
When traveling in April, you can’t go wrong with Portuguese cities and towns. Lisbon, Porto, Coimbra, and also smaller towns like Sintra, Evora, or Obidos are all great this time of the year. Everything is open, it’s not too hot for sightseeing, there are fewer tourists, and there are also all kinds of local events.
Spring is also a wonderful time to visit the famous monasteries of central Portugal. Alcobaca, Batalha, but also Tomar and Fatima are all worth a visit. What’s great is that the monasteries are very quiet and you can truly appreciate these architectural masterpieces. We were told that it might get busy around Easter, so check if there’s anything special going on. However, we were there just before Easter and there were hardly any tourists at all.
April is also a great time to visit parks and forests, with so many flowering plants everywhere. Don’t miss the gardens of the Sintra castles and Mata du Busssaco in Luso. The weather is also usually pleasant for exploring the beaches of Algarve or the Alentejo coastline. However, it’s often still a bit too cold for swimming and beach activities.
Good to know: April is also not the best time to visit the vineyards of Douro in Northern Portugal. Most vines are still leafless and the whole area looks very dry and brown after the winter. The views and the scenery are still impressive, but don’t expect the beautiful green vineyards that you see in the travel brochures.

Advantages of Visiting in April
There are several advantages of visiting Portugal in April, and here are the main ones:
There are fewer tourists. April is still a relatively quiet season for tourists in Portugal, and even the most popular landmarks are not too busy yet. Lisbon, Sintra, and Porto are already quite lively at this time of the year, but everywhere else, it’s still very quiet.
Flowers. Lots of plants are blooming at this time of the year, so spring is a really nice season to visit Portugal. All over the country, there are flowers, bushes, and trees blooming already.
It’s cheaper. Portugal is already one of the most budget-friendly destinations in Europe, but if you visit in the shoulder season, it’s even more affordable. It’s quite easy to find really good deals for car rental. Also accommodations, especially outside the most popular areas, are quite affordable this time of the year.
Perfect weather for sightseeing. If you visit Portugal in order to explore the country and not for its beaches, then April is a wonderful time for that. In summer, it’s really too hot to explore cities, whereas spring temperatures are ideal for sightseeing.
All this makes Portugal a great spring break destination in Europe. It’s not as busy, not as hot, and not as expensive as in the summer – a perfect combination for families.

Sintra is one of the most popular places in Portugal. It was lively, but not overly busy when we visited in April.
Disadvantages of Visiting in April
Since it’s shoulder season, there are also some disadvantages of visiting Portugal in April:
Unpredictable weather. As already mentioned, the weather in Portugal is quite mild and spring can be beautiful. But it remains a bit of a gamble and you may get some colder, windier days with some rain as well.
It’s too cold for swimming. April is too early to enjoy the beaches and the outdoor pools of the hotels to the fullest. We saw some people on the beaches in Portugal on the warmest April days, but only very few of them went in the water. The seawater is still quite cold after the winter.
In some places, nature isn’t awake yet. While most places we visited in Portugal in April, were green and beautiful, some were not awake after the winter yet. The famous Douro Valley close to Porto was a big disappointment in the first half of April because all you could see were dry vine plants.
Douro Valley in April
Lisbon & Porto in April
We love exploring big cities in Portugal in April. It’s lively, but not too busy, mostly because there are not too many cruise ships in the area at this time of the year. So you can truly enjoy city life and tourist attractions without huge crowds.
That being said, the most popular places in Lisbon and Porto are already busy. This is especially the case if your visit coincides with two or three big cruise ships visiting on the same day.
Another thing that makes a city trip to Portugal more pleasant in April is that you can truly enjoy the cities and the weather is great for sightseeing. In winter, it’s colder and it’s wet, and in summer, it’s often so hot that it’s not pleasant. That’s why April is the perfect month to visit Lisbon or Porto.

Porto. April weather is perfect for visiting cities.
Algarve in April
The Algarve region in southern Portugal is best known for its stunning beaches and the most beautiful coastline. Because most people come here for the beaches, April is still a quiet season here.
The bigger towns with more full-time inhabitants are quite lively and most places here are open. Also, tours to the most popular places, such as Benagil Cave, attract lots of people already.
However, the smaller towns that live mostly from tourism, seem to just start waking up after the winter break. So quite some places are still closed in April.
April is perfect for exploring the beautiful coastline, long walks on the beach, bike rides, or surfing. So if you like the off-season feeling and outdoorsy activities, you’ll love Algarve in April. If, however, you want to go swimming and sunbathing every day, enjoy nightlife and other touristy activities, then it’s best to come in the summer.

April weather was perfect for exploring the coastline of Algarve, but not really for the beach
Central Portugal in April
From all the places we visited in Portugal in April, we enjoyed Central Portugal the most.
There were hardly any tourists in the smaller towns, but also at the abbeys, which are a major draw in the area. Furthermore, the weather was great for sightseeing and since the tourism season was just starting, locals were relaxed and had time for a chat.
Also, there were plenty of nice local restaurants open in smaller towns where we could enjoy some really good food (at very low prices).
We saw so many beautiful places and it was just busy enough to not feel alone. There were more locals than tourists everywhere we went and it was a really relaxing vacation, as a vacation should be.
Batalha Monastery was very quiet when we visited in April
Madeira in April
Portuguese Madeira Island is a year-round destination, with mild weather during the entire year. In April, you can expect daytime temperatures of 18-20°C (64-68°F) and lots of sunshine. However, if you are a bit less lucky, it can also be a few degrees colder and you might get some rain.
In general, it should be warm enough for t-shirts and shorts in Funchal. But you’ll definitely need a sweater and sometimes also a light jacket in the mountains. We found the April weather perfect for hiking in Madeira.
The good thing about Madeira is that because of its hilly interior, the weather can be very different in various places across the island. So you can quite easily find sunshine, almost every day.
Our experience: When we visited Madeira in April, we had less than perfect weather. It was about 15-16°C (60°F) on most days, the rain was on the forecast almost daily, and there were quite some clouds in the mountains making one hike we wanted to do impossible.
However, by checking the weather forecast for various locations on the island, we managed to avoid the rain during the entire stay of over 10 days. On a few occasions, we wore shorts and t-shirts, but most of the time, we needed a sweater and sometimes even a jacket.
The locals told us that the weather was ‘as bad as it ever gets in Madeira, even in winter’. So apparently it’s normally much warmer and sunnier in Madeira in April than what we experienced. My parents visited Madeira in April a year after we did and they had beautiful summer-like weather on most days.
READ ALSO: Best Things to Do in Madeira
The weather in Madeira was quite changeable, from beautiful sunny days to clouds and even rain. But we always managed to find some parts of the island where it wasn’t raining.
Azores in April
The best time to visit the Azores Islands is in summer, between June and August. May and September are a bit of the shoulder months, and in April, it’s still quite rainy and not very warm yet.
Average high daytime temperatures in Sao Miguel in April are around 15°C (59°F), and it rains one day out of the three. On the other hand, it can also get as warm as 20° (68°F), and you might have more sunshine.
So if you are prepared for the less stable and less predictable weather and keep some flexibility in your schedule, April might be a nice time to experience the more local side of the Azores, without many tourists.
TIP: If you decide to visit the Azores in April, I’d recommend focusing on the main islands, such as Sao Miguel. On the smallest islands like Flores, even in high season, facilities are rather limited.
Miradouro da Boca do Inferno in Sete Cidades in Sao Miguel, Azores. This picture is from our trip in the summer.
So, this is an overview of what you can expect when visiting Portugal in April.
As you can see, April is a great time to visit Portugal for sightseeing and outdoor activities, but not ideal for a beach vacation. All in all, it’s a wonderful month to visit!
I hope that our experience gives you a better idea of what to expect and helps you plan a wonderful trip and enjoy the very best that Portugal has to offer in spring.

Spain travel rules: UK and EU travellers still face different rules at the border
Spain is the only European country that still has COVID restrictions in place for non-EU travellers this month.
The popular destination dropped all entry rules for anyone arriving from the EU or Schengen area.
But UK, US and other tourists need to show proof of full vaccination, recovery from COVID-19, a negative antigen test result (taken in the 24 hours before departure) or a negative PCR test (taken in the 72 hours before departure).
Health screening is in place at all Spanish airports and ports to ensure passengers comply with these rules, which are set to stay until at least 15 November.
With its sunny beaches, rich architectural heritage and delicious food, there are plenty of reasons why the Mediterranean nation was the world’s second-most visited country pre-pandemic. And, of course, the long-running favourite of British holidaymakers.
Unlike other European nations – including Luxembourg most recently – Spain has not scrapped its travel restrictions entirely. So if you’re one of the many tourists on their way to Spain, here’s what you need to know.
What are the latest travel rules for Spain?
A couple pose for a picture in front of Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia Basilica in Barcelona.Joan Mateu/AP
Tourists from within the EU or Schengen area no longer need to show any COVID-19 documents in order to enter the country.
Visitors from outside the EU however, still need to show proof of vaccination, a recovery certificate or a negative test through the EU Digital COVID Certificate (EUDCC) or another valid document.
Previously, if you did not have a EUDCC certificate (or another EU equivalent) you had to manually fill in Spain’s Health Control Form with these details, receiving a QR code to get through the airports. As of 20 September 2022, this system has been abolished.
Spain is now accepting all certificates so long as they meet the same conditions as the EU Digital COVID Certificate.
Either a PCR or rapid antigen test – taken within 72 or 48 hours before arrival, respectively – will also be accepted.
What counts as fully vaccinated in Spain?
In order to be considered fully vaccinated by the Spanish government, all travellers must have received their second jab at least 14 days prior to their trip.
You must be vaccinated with a complete course of a vaccine approved by the WHO or EMA.
And, in line with other EU countries, Spain has set an expiration date of 270 days on vaccine passports. This means booster jabs will be required if your second jab was more than nine months ago.
But there is no requirement for 14 days to have passed since getting any further booster jabs and entering Spain, and there is currently no expiration date for booster jabs.
What are Spain’s vaccine and COVID test rules for UK travellers?
UK citizens who have not had a coronavirus vaccine are now free to travel to Spain – provided they can prove they don’t have the virus.
As with EU travellers, one of the three following certificates is required:
A negative test certificate – either a PCR taken within 72 hours of departure or an antigen test taken within 24 hours
A vaccination certificate
Certificate of recovery at least 11 days after testing positive (valid for six months)
Summer 2021 saw Barcelona’s beaches packed again, and the Spanish tourism sector is expected to regain even more of its pre-pandemic size this year. Joan Mateu/AP
The Spanish authorities will accept the NHS COVID Pass as proof of vaccination, either digitally or printed out.
Tests are not required from double-jabbed Brits, but the UK Foreign Office notes that all travellers may be subject to additional checks at the point of entry.
Spain’s Border Health Controls page suggests that if, for example, an airport temperature check raises concerns, tourists could be contacted and required to take a PCR test at any point up to 48 hours after their arrival.
Unvaccinated Brits no longer need to fill out the Health Control Form, but they must show proof of recent recovery or a negative test.
What are the rules for children and teenagers?
Children under 12 years old do not need to show proof of vaccination or undergo any tests. This rule applies to the whole of Spain, including the Canary Islands and the Balearics.
Those aged between aged 12 to 17 no longer have to be fully vaccinated and can get into Spain with a negative PCR (or other NAAT) test result taken within 72 hours before arrival. Antigen tests are now also being accepted and must be taken at most 24 hours before departure.
Alternatively, fully vaccinated British children aged 12 to 15 are able to prove their immunity with a NHS COVID Pass letter for international travel.
Are masks required in Spain?
Masks are no longer required in indoor settings.Manu Fernandez/AP
By royal decree, masks are no longer mandatory in the vast majority of settings – from bars and cafes to museums and cinemas.
Public transport is one key exception, however, as face coverings are still required on airplanes, buses, trains, metros and taxis – as well as ferries if a 1.5 metre distance can’t be maintained indoors.
It follows the scrapping of Spain’s strict outdoor mask wearing rule earlier this year.
However, domestic rules can vary from region to region, so it’s important to check the exact requirements for where you’re headed. The Spanish Tourist Board’s Travel Safe website has more guidance on this, with a breakdown of rules for each of Spain’s 17 autonomous regions on its interactive map.

April is another ideal month to visit Rome because it’s usually warm enough for all sightseeing, but still early enough in the year that crowds are not out of control yet. That changes a bit around Easter, which is on April 9 in 2023, as the city fills up and the Vatican has big events. If you are coming during that week it’s important to book early and expect to pay quite a bit more.
The rest of the month is even more pleasant, and hotel prices are still modest compared to what they’ll be starting in June. The outdoor attractions such as the Coliseum and Ancient Rome can be brutal when the summer heat arrives, so this kind of weather is ideal in several ways. April is an ideal month for a tour of Italy since it has fairly mild weather, and Rome is the best place to start.

Since Florence is only a bit north of Rome, it has generally the same pleasant weather in April. This is the heart of Tuscany and starting in April it’s warm enough to start exploring some of the vineyards and lovely hill towns in this area, not to mention the fantastic sights in Florence itself.
Nearly everyone visits Florence on their way from Venice to Rome or from Rome to Venice, and the train only takes about two hours between them. It’s best to fly into Rome and head north or fly into Venice and head south. You can get cheap flights into the Pisa Airport, or visit it on a day trip.
Speaking of the north, Venice is still fairly chilly in April, but it’s absolutely worth a visit if you have an extra day or two. If you are coming from within Europe you can get cheaper flights into nearby Treviso Airport.

Paris, France
April avg high: 60F/16C
April avg low: 46F/8C
April avg precip: 2. 0″/5.0cm
Fortunately for all of us, Paris has a milder climate than you might expect. April is obviously not a warm month in the City of Lights, but it’s fairly pleasant weather for sightseeing, with usually very little rain. Starting in May you’ll notice crowds getting larger and larger, so April is a very good compromise with acceptable weather and modest crowd sizes.
Hotels in Paris are pretty good bargains as well, especially if you book a place in more of a tourist neighborhood than a business neighborhood. Flights into Paris are still good deals as well, so this can be a good place to start or end a longer tour of Europe. You should consider a Paris Pass if you intend on hitting many of the top attractions in only a few days.

Nice, France
April avg high: 62F/17C
April avg low: 50F/10C
April avg precip: 2. 7″/6.8cm
The Mediterranean city of Nice is quite crowded all summer and fairly dead in the winter, so April is a good compromise month for a visit. The temperatures are warm enough for a long stroll along the beach or through the outdoor markets in the center of town, and chilly enough that you’ll be able to show off some of your favorite outerwear.
Nice has plenty going for it by itself, but it’s also a very short train ride (20 minutes or so) from Cannes in one direction and Monaco in the other. So this is an excellent base for trips around the French Riviera, with lower hotel and restaurant prices than some of those more famously expensive spots that you can easily see on day trips. With these wonderful day trips so near by it can make sense to stay in the district close to the train station rather than pay a lot more for something closer to the beach, especially since you won’t be spending much time on the beach pebbles in April anyway.

London, England
April avg high: 55F/13C

The weather in London can be lousy at any time of the year, and at least April is warm and usually dry enough that you can do everything that you want to do. London is one of those cities that is so crowded in July and August that some people regret visiting then, so actually a visit in April can be far more peaceful and enlightening.
Another plus is that flights to London can be pretty good bargains in the shoulder season like this. London hotels and hostels are also offering rates that are far lower than you’ll see in summer. You can also take the Eurostar train to Paris in a bit over two hours, and then begin a European tour from there. Most European currencies are way down compared to the US dollar in 2023, but the British Pound is down even more. In fact, London should feel like a bargain this year, unlike recent years when it felt like a gauge.

Barcelona, Spain

Speaking of cities that feel insanely crowded during summer, Barcelona is now another one, so visiting in the fringe months can be far more enjoyable. Since the architecture is the most notable thing about Barcelona, it’s a place where you’ll want to spend quite a bit of time outdoors. April is warm and dry enough to be able to enjoy your visit, even more so than July when it’s so hot that you have to seek shade on a regular basis.
First time visitors to Spain might not realize how different Barcelona and Madrid are from each other, and that there is a high-speed train that connects the cities in about three hours. It’s highly recommended to spend 3 or so days in each city if you can. Hotels here are pretty good value in April as well.

As mentioned just above, the ideal plan is to visit Madrid and Barcelona as a pair, with about 3 nights in each. Madrid is a more formal and typical large capital city, but it’s also filled with interesting sights along with great museums, food, and nightlife.
Those starting a longer Europe tour can fly into Madrid and then take that train to Barcelona, and then another train to Paris from there, or a different train along the Mediterranean coast. You can also take a night train to Lisbon from Madrid, which is an adventure on its own.

Malaga, Spain
April avg high: 70F/21C
April avg low: 51F/11C
April avg precip: 1.6″/4.0cm
There are actually days in April where it’s warm enough for sunbathing in the Malaga area, which also includes the Costa del Sol towns to its west. But even if you don’t come for sunbathing, you’ll at least get nice weather with almost no rain. Many Brits and Nordic people live here all year round, but the main tourist season doesn’t really begin until late May.
Some of the towns in this area are filled with hotels, but others have far more short-term apartment rentals, so it’s good to check both options. The actual city of Malaga has a historic center that is more interesting than you might expect, so there is more to do here than just walk around in the nice weather. Marbella is the most famous of the small Costa del Sol towns and probably the most upscale as well. Torremolinos was the first of these fishing villages to transform into tourist towns, and it’s probably still the most interesting of them.

Lisbon has one of Europe’s best climates any month of the year, and April is obviously no exception. Being on the southwest coast as it is, the city gets warm gulfstream breezes that keep it nicer than the inland cities on the same latitude. Lisbon is another ideal city to fly into for the start of a tour of Europe, as you can get to Madrid or many other Spanish cities quite easily on your way towards France.
Portugal’s remoteness seems to help keep visitor numbers lower than they deserve, and that helps keep prices modest as well. Hotels and hostels here are good deals most of the year, and the quality is surprisingly good even in the lower price ranges. The food here is another highlight and sit-down meals are surprisingly affordable for a European capital.

Split, Croatia
April avg high: 63F/17C
April avg low: 51F/11C
April avg precip: 2. 5″/6.3cm
You’ve likely heard of Dubrovnik, which is the most famous tourist town in Croatia, but Split is actually a better stop for many people. The historic town centers are very similar except that Split’s is larger than Dubrovnik’s walled city, and Split is a bit older as well. Dubrovnik is also a busy cruise port, which is another reason to avoid it unless you are on a cruise yourself.
Split is also a good transport hub in Croatia as the train stops here near the ferry port, which can get you to one of the nearby islands. Apartment rentals called “sobes” are more popular here than normal hotels, and usually cheaper as well. This area is also overcrowded in summer, so April is a nice month to be able to see everything and still have decent weather. If you are looking for a place to stay for a week or more in April you’ll get excellent value here because they have a huge number of summer rentals that are otherwise empty until May or so usually.

Prague, Czechia
April avg high: 57F/14C
April avg low: 38F/3C
April avg precip: 1. 5″/3.8cm
As a city nowhere near the coast, Prague has pretty chilly winters, so April is really the first month of the year when temperatures are pleasant enough for a visit. Fortunately Prague normally gets almost no rain in April either, so as long as you bring a jacket or sweater you can probably leave the umbrella at home.
One reason why Prague is a recommended city in April is that it’s another one that can feel so insanely crowded in July that it’s unbearable. It might feel a bit cold in April here, but it’s still far more pleasant than battling the monstrous crowds in summer. Hotel prices are good bargains this time of the year as well. You’d pay double for the same room in summer, so you can afford to splurge on something nicer and with a more central location.

Budapest, Hungary

April avg low: 43F/6C

If you read the description of Prague (just above) in April, it’s pretty much the exact same story for Budapest in April, but the weather here is a bit warmer. Budapest doesn’t get quite as crowded as Prague does in summer, though it can also be quite hot here so July and August are not ideal times to come in any event.
Those who are doing a tour of Europe that includes both Prague and Budapest will probably want to stop in Vienna in between, and perhaps even the lovely small town of Cesky Krumlov. Buses can be more frequent than trains in this part of Europe, usually with lower prices and similar travel times as well. Budapest is one of Europe’s great bargains, as it is always near the top of the Europe Backpacker Index list of the cheapest tourist cities on the continent.

Athens, Greece
April avg high: 68F/20C
April avg low: 49F/9C
April avg precip: 1. 2″/3.0cm
As you can see above, Athens has a very pleasant April climate, which is ideal for the type of sightseeing you’ll do here. The main attractions are outdoors in this historic city, so a visit in summer can be problematic in the brutal heat. Many people visit Athens for a few days and then head to one of the nearby islands by ferry from the cruise port here of Piraeus. Most of the islands are pretty dead until at least after Easter (April 9 in 2023), and it’s slow through the middle of May.
There are a couple of smaller islands that are close enough to Athens for a day trip visit. If you really want to also visit an island you might consider Santorini, Mykonos, or Rhodes. Those all have airports and towns that are going all year round, although still quite slow outside of the summer months.

Valletta, Malta

If you don’t care much about sandy beaches and are just looking for a European island destination with pleasant weather in April, then consider Malta. The only proper beaches are a long way away from the main towns, but still the weather is good enough in April to spend plenty of time outside and even relax on the rocks that serve as beaches in the best areas such as Sliema.
Valletta is actually the small and historic capital town that is a charming place to spend a day or two, but if you are coming for longer than that you’ll probably want a hotel in Sliema or farther west along the coast. The nightlife here is quite good, especially for those who enjoy cheap beer and wine. English is the main language, so it’s one of the easier places to visit in southern Europe.

Interlaken, Switzerland
April avg high: 57F/14C
April avg low: 38F/3C
April avg precip: 3. 4″/8.5cm
While it’s still fairly cold in April, and very cold at the higher altitudes, Interlaken is really an all-year destination. The area is home to perhaps Europe’s two most scenic spots in the Jungfraujoch railway and the Schilthorn observation deck, and those can be good any time of year as long as you don’t get unlucky with a foggy day.
In winter this is a ski area and in summer this is the hiking and trekking capital of Switzerland. April is kind of an in-between month where you might be able to do both of those things. It’s best to plan your activities at the last minute, once you know what the weather will be like at the time. My article on where to go in Switzerland is very comprehensive so it could be worth a look if you want to visit the Alps in April.
