Tenerife holiday destination guide

Tenerife is the largest and most populated of Spain’s Canary Islands. It is located just off the western coast of Africa and therefore enjoys pretty much year-round sunshine and high temperatures. For this reason and with flights to Tenerife being only a couple of hours at the most from the majority of European countries, it is little wonder that in 2012 approximately 5 million tourists visited the island. Almost a third of which was just from us Brits (we do love a Canary Island summer…

The Best Places for Spring in Europe

Spring unfurls in Europe unlike any other place in the world. Roses the size of your hand, beautiful weather, and a cheery atmosphere seem to take hold of the whole continent. If you’re dreaming of spring in Europe, I’ve got the best places that will inspire a visit.

From the sunny daffodils, the winding wisteria, and the miles of tulips, Spring in Europe is one of the best times to visit. As Europe starts to thaw from Winter, the most brilliant blooms and luscious landscapes emerge. I’ve mapped out the best places to visit Europe in the spring. Seven places that offer the most beautiful scenes of Europe; you’ll feel like you stepped right into a painting.

The wake of Winter seems to trail on for quite a long time in Europe, so when the buds finally start to come out and the birds start chirping (sometimes a bit too early in the morning), I know that Spring in Europe has arrived.

    Why Spring in Europe

It’s not too hot, not too cold, just like Goldilocks likes. It’s far less crowded than the summer months (although watch out for the Easter holiday) and the flowers come out like no other time.  After living in Europe for the past 3 years, this is definitely my most favorite season. Combine the beauty of the landscape and the temperature to make the perfect recipe for a getaway.

Of course, there are a lot of places that boast beautiful flowers or lovely scenery all throughout the continent. But I’ve picked the most pristine places that showcase the best the continent has to offer.

I’ve chosen 7 places to really see spring unfurl in Europe. From the best places to see flowers bloom, to the best options for weather, and the best times for each location.

Best Places to Visit for Spring in Europe?

    Tulips in The Netherlands

The mecca of all spring destinations in Europe, The Netherlands not only has miles and miles of tulips in any color imaginable, it’s also home to Keukenhof- the world’s largest flower garden. The vibrant and bold flowers come for just a couple months every year and visitors rush to see the patchwork quilt of magnificent blooms.  The Netherlands’ flower fields seem tailor-made for leisurely spring days. You can bike or drive around the fields, stop in cafes, and even pick up some bulbs or blooms to take home.

Check out my full guide to tulips and Keukenhof right here.

Best time to visit:  Mid-April is when the tulips are at their best. The season runs from Mid March to May but I suggest sticking close to April.

Tiptoeing through the Tulips ???? I’ve been wanting to come to the Netherlands to see the tulips ever since we moved abroad nearly 3 years ago! Last year was foiled when I tore my ACL so it’s such a dream to be here now. I can tell y’all… it’s AMAZING. Oversaturated reds and blues with shimmering pinks and purples, Brilliant orange and yellow, I cannot get enough #heleneinthenetherlands

While you’re in the area, pop over to Amsterdam! This is the low season for this often busy city.

Cherry Blossom Trees in Bonn, Germany

Each year, the cherry blossom trees in Bonn, Germany burst to life, creating an almost heart shaped frame on the street. For a bit of a taste of the cherry blossoms in Japan, Germany has many places with pretty, fluffy cherry blossoms. Berlin, Heidelberg, Schwetzingen, and more around Germany offer delightful spots to see the trees.

Best time to visit: Cherry blossom trees often bloom in the beginning of spring for about a month, usually Mid March to April.

It was pouring rain but I insisted we head to the palace gardens in Schwetzingen. At first Michael rolled his eyes but then we went and we were the only ones there. Our rain jackets got so wet we both soaked through but it didn’t matter because we were laughing too hard. Where is your favorite spot for spring blooms? ? Mine are Heidelberg (and Schwetzingen), Paris, London, Southern England (daffodils everywhere) and now… poppies Italy! Just arrived in Sicily! #helenelovesgermany

Here’s my blog post (and lots of images!) of lovely Heidelberg in the Spring.

    Daffodils in Southern England

One of the things I like best about visiting England is the friendly people. Which is fitting, since daffodils seem to spill out of all their charming towns and villages. Daffodils are such a happy, bright flower and they juxtapose perfectly with the vanilla colored buildings of the Cotswolds and Cornwall in Southern England.

I suggest taking a road trip through the southern part of England to get a hearty dose of Spring. This is the same time as lambing season, so you’ll not only see daffodils, but baby animals such as lambs and goats running around. I was shocked by our brilliant weather, beautiful flowers, and even surprising scenery that made me feel like I might have been off the coast of Italy.

Daffodils actually grow in England by the millions! This guide shows you where you can see the daffodil fields.

Best time to visit: Daffodils are a hearty flower and bloom from March to April.

Check out my Southern England Road-trip guide here and Cotswolds guide here.

    Wisteria in Provence, France

At first, when we drove and cruised through Provence, I asked to stop every time every time we saw an overly abundant wall of purple wisteria. Then I realized that there were unending places chock full of wisteria, nearly on every street and corner. Wisteria is an invasive plant, but it also happens to be exceedingly lovely. It covers many of the houses and cafes and is easy to spot in this region.

Nearly every small town and village offers wisteria. You can see it flourish freely in places growing wine such as the Beaujoules region. You can also go to the markets in Aix in Provence for piles and piles of pink peonies.

Best time to visit: Wisteria has a short season so be sure to check the calendar in order to see it! Wisteria lasts for about 3-4 weeks, depending on the temperature. Usually, this is in early to mid-Spring. This year it was uncharacteristically cool so it was later in Spring, late April, that the wisteria bloomed.

Bonus: Head to the south for the Calanques to avoid the summer crowds and insanely beautiful beaches.

Bougainvillea in Santorini and Corfu, Greece

The bright fuscia, over-saturated flowers of the bougainvillea plants seem to bleed over all the white-washed buildings. It’s no secret the Greek islands are some of the most picturesque places in the world. The crystal clear water, cliff-side villas, and warm, sandy beaches are the perfect place for a vacation. I love Spring time in Greece because you beat the heat, some of the tourists, and get a dose of the flowers. Corfu is a large, often passed-over island, that has tons of Bougainvillea in the old town and near many of the beach villas.

Santorini is already picturesque, but has so many pretty spots with the flowering bushes. On either island you’re guaranteed to run into it.

Best time to visit: Bougainvillea has a long season and will start blooming in late April and May and continue throughout the summer.

See my guide to Corfu here.

    Wildflowers in Sicily, Italy

As we drove the winding streets of Sicily, I kept remarking about the vibrant colors dotting all along the highway. Bright purple, dark red, sunny yellow, and a rainbow of others.

I suggest renting a car in order to see many of the cities that Sicily has to offer and this is also the best way to see the wildflowers. In particular, the resort town of Taormina seemed to be engulfed with wildflowers and wisteria.

Best time to visit: Wildflowers bloom throughout the spring season but it’s best to go before it gets too hot outside. March and April are the perfect time to visit since Spring unfurls quite early in the South.

Bonus! If you love poppies, head to Tuscany for the striking sight of red flowers lining the roads and clinging to the stone walls.

See my guide to Sicily here and Tuscany itinerary here.

Paris and London for a bit of all the blooms

The benefit of visiting the big cities is that they do their best to spruce up their storefronts, restaurants, and cafes. You can find beautiful wisteria covered homes in London or marvel at cherry blossom trees that line the boulevards in Paris.  P.S. see my full guide to London and Paris here.

On nearly every street there is a cafe or home showing off with bright blooms. Notting Hill in London is a great place to find wisteria. You can also see many flower shops encourage visitors to stop in by creating elaborate flower displays. Restaurants like Peggy Porschen and Churchill Arms create a frenzy of Instagrammers frequenting their doorsteps to get a picture.

In Paris, you’ll find cherry blossom trees near the Champs-Élysées and right outside the Notre Dame, on the back part of the building. Near the Notre Dame, you can go to Au Vieux Paris for a wisteria covered wall. You can also take a day trip to Monet’s Garden to get a dose of all sorts of flowers and see Monet’s inspiration for his paintings.

Best time to visit: You can visit either city all through spring to get a taste of different flowers.

Paris guide here and my guide to London right here.  OR my 7 day itinerary to both here!

Of course, even if you’re not in these locations, make sure to head to your local market to get a dose of some of the blooms from around Europe. You’ll be surprised at the selection, and the price!

Spring in Europe needs to be experienced at least once in your life. Whether you’re a flower fanatic or want to avoid the busy season, I highly recommend taking a tour this time of year.

    Europe Trip Reviews

    • “Two girls who were really nervous to travel to Europe, did not have a big budget but were passionate about visiting certain cities. The transport system in Europe is good, the distance from city centre was not an issue as trains came frequently and the hotels were 5-10 away from the stations. We chose the vegetarian option although we were informed that we may not always get strictly Vegetarian food. Some days we left as early as 6.30 am. Most cities didn’t feel as rushed as we expected; though it would be nice to have a whole day in Florence and Venice. The tour driver and leaders are very friendly and knowledgeable and help you out if you ask for tips and directions. Overall, the tour is a great experience and covers all the main landmarks of the Europe.”

      Europe Escape – 12 Days

    • “I spent a month long honeymoon with Gayle and Dean from Expat last summer. The entire 22 day excursion throughout Europe was non stop and action packed. Gayle did an amazing job and it was an unforgettable experience. She was knowledgeable, passionate for her work, friendly, and truly the backbone of the entire trip. I strongly recommend this tour and will surely do another one.”

Best of Europe – 22 Days

    • “During our trip in Europe, Judith was our tour manager. The tour always ran smoothly, weather it be in party mode, down-time, or pulling us into line. She has a bright and energetic personality, shown only in a way that having a job she absolutely loves can bring out. Her communication skills were second to none, only matched by her co-ordination and management skills. She was always very informative, fun and professional during the tour. I had the absolute best time of my life, with the best people. It was truly a privilege to share the experience with her.”

Jazz, tropics, tulips and a knight’s parade – where to go in April

April is a great month for traveling. It is already warm in Western Europe, everything is blooming, there are holidays and festivals. And in hot countries, the stuffy summer has not yet come, the air temperature does not rise above + 28 ° C. We will tell you where to go to relax, have fun and get an unforgettable experience.

To Holland, for tulips and fun

    Photo: tulpfestival.com

Amsterdam will host the Tulip Festival from March 31 to April 30, with flowerbeds and flower sculptures set up at 85 locations. You can see the rarest and most beautiful tulips in the Keukenhof Royal Flower Park and in the tulip fields between the cities of Leiden and Haarlem.

April 18-22 are the dates for the famous Bloemencorso Flower Parade. Fifty figures and compositions, assembled from thousands of tulips of all colors of the rainbow, will be installed on the roofs of cars that will leave Noordwijk on the morning of April 18 and finish in Haarlem at 9pm and will remain in the city until 5 pm April 22.

And already on April 27 the whole of Holland will turn orange (the color of the royal house),

the streets will be decorated with flags, balloons, flowers and garlands. On this day, the country celebrates King’s Day – with festive processions, boat rides, square concerts and flea markets around every corner.

To China, to the tropics and to the water festival

For fans of beach holidays and traditional Chinese medicine, the tropical island of Hainan in southern China is ideal: healing thermal springs, traditional medicine centers, beaches, rifting and fishing. The water and air temperature in April is +28°C.

In the south of Yunnan Province, for three days (April 13-16), the Water Spray Festival, a folk festival on the eve of the New Year, will be held.

On the first day of the event, a costumed parade is planned on the banks of the Mekong River, then there will be races along the river in boats decorated with paper dragons. The second day is the culmination of the holiday, when everyone goes outside and pours water on each other. The meaning of the ritual is to cleanse before the New Year. On the third day, young people in traditional costumes will gather on the banks of the river and dance and pour water over each other.

degrees, and even in the north of the country the temperature does not fall below +13°C. Nord-pas-de-Calais is one of the northern regions of France on the border with Belgium, with harsh nature, hearty cuisine and hospitable people. In the capital of the region, Lille, there are many historical monuments: the Riour Palace, the Old Stock Exchange and the Palace of Fine Arts with masterpieces by Rubens, Van Dyck, Goya, Rodin and Raphael. The city of Amiens is famous for its majestic classical Gothic cathedral and the Picardy Museum, with a unique collection of ancient Egyptian art. It was founded by Jules Verne, who lived in Amiens for 18 years.

In Berck-sur-Mer, a popular resort on the Opal Coast (250 kilometers of the French coast near the English Channel),

On April 14, the International Kite Festival starts, in which teams from different countries participate. The festival will last 9 days. The culmination of the holiday is a night kite launch with music, illumination and a pyrotechnic show.

In April, the weather in Louisiana is beautiful – sunny, dry, + 25-28 ° C in the daytime. From April 12 to 15, the city hosts the French Quarter Festival, one of the largest free festivals in America. Hundreds of local jazz and blues bands perform at outdoor venues in the French Quarter.

Three weeks later, on April 27, Jazz Fest kicks off in New Orleans and runs until May 6. In 2017 the main guests of the festival will be Aerosmith, Sting, Beck, LL COOL J feat. DJ Z-Trip, Khalid, Common, Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue, Charlie Wilson, Lionel Richie, Anita Baker, Sturgill Simpson and several hundred more artists.

    Gas problems in Europe
    22:40

European countries, left without Russian gas, may be thrown back in their social development almost to the 40s of the XX century, some experts suggest. And attempts to blame the Russians for all the troubles can lead to irreparable consequences.

You still have to make a choice: either give up your “indestructible” principles, or freeze. And Russia should not be blamed for Europe’s gas problems either – the crisis in the EU energy sector has been ripe for a long time. Ill-conceived steps in the “green transition” made themselves felt last fall.

The consequences of the record prices that formed last winter are still unclear. I remember that at that time some politicians in Germany almost threatened Russia with the onset of spring: when the heat comes, we will not need your gas. However, spring is not in a hurry. The European continent found itself in a “bag of cold”. Snow covered Paris and Berlin. The stocks made last year in European UGS facilities were selected to zero in February. The selection comes from the gas residues of previous years. And ordinary people suffer – the communal apartment has grown at times.

“My gas bill went up this month from 73 euros to 179 euros. I turned off the heating in my house a long time ago, not to annoy Putin, but in order not to go around the world. The discussion of sanctions around Ukraine is an anti-social discussion of the elite “, – wrote one of the users in social networks.

Meanwhile, the same political elite is giving the Europeans lessons in survival. It’s cold in the house – well, put on a jacket. Reduce consumption. Save energy – once again do not turn on the dishwasher or washing machine. Yes, and you can wash less often. The main thing, as European Commissioner Margaret Vestager advises, is to scold Putin mentally or even out loud.

“Every time you turn off the water, say: ‘Take it, Putin!'” Margaret Vestager, European Commissioner for Competition, suggested.

Some experts believe that without Russian gas, European countries can be thrown back in their social development almost to the 40s of the XX century. And attempts to blame the Russians for all the troubles can lead to irreparable consequences.

“These sentiments can result in acute Russophobia and fascistization of the European layman – this can also happen. There is a double-edged sword here. Or it can happen the other way around: this can lead to the demand of the broad masses for politicians to be more compliant towards Russia”, – Andrey Koryakovtsev, a sociologist and expert at the New Society Institute, predicts.

Western politicians are in no hurry to yield. They seem to be hoping for better weather. Gas demand in Europe reacts strongly to temperatures below 15 degrees, but hardly reacts to temperatures above this level. The reason is simple: spring has come – the need for heating has decreased. However, one should not forget that the processes in the atmosphere are going according to their schedule, without taking into account the wishes of the European bureaucrats.

For example, the day before, the countries of the Old World were at the mercy of the Arctic invasion. As a result, snowfalls covered most of the continent, including the north of the Pyrenees, the Apennines and the Balkans. Temporary snow cover began to form again, and in Germany and Spain the height of snowdrifts in places reached 10-13 centimeters.

Along with the winter weather, abnormal frosts even by January standards came to Europe. On April 1, in Germany, Denmark and the UK, the air cooled down to minus 5-7, in the southern regions of France and in northern Spain, the thermometers dropped to minus 2-3. And in the coming days, the situation will not change significantly.

Right now the Arctic invasion in Europe is reaching its peak.

Parts of Europe Gripped by Cold Snap, Heavy Snow

    • Several European countries are digging out of a snowstorm that dumped nearly a foot of snow in some areas.
    • The snow led to a 40-car pileup that injured 24 people in Slovakia.

Millions of Europeans saw visions of winter in recent days as temperatures plunged and heavy snow fell in several countries.

Nearly a foot of snow was reported in eastern Ukraine by Euronews, while more than a half-foot of wintry precipitation fell in Switzerland. Snowfall was also reported in parts of Germany, Poland, Slovakia and Romania, the report added.

With so many trees in bloom, the weight of the snow was problematic. Trees fell in the Ukranian city of Kharkiv and more than 1,000 homes lost power, Euronews also said.

(MORE: Late-April Cooldown Coming for Parts of U.S.)

The snow also created travel problems in some areas. At least two dozen people were hurt in a 40-car pileup near the Slovakian city of Poprad at about 6 a.m. local time Thursday morning, according to the Associated Press. The collision shut down the main route that connects the eastern part of Slovakia to the capital, Bratislava, the report added.

“A southward dip in the jet stream has kept much of eastern Europe and adjacent parts of Russia in a very cold weather pattern since the weekend,” said weather.com meteorologist Chris Dolce. “Low temperatures have been subfreezing at times, allowing snow to fall in the region.”

Where is hot in April? 13 warm and sunny spring holiday destinations

    Get booking now… (Picture: Getty)

A hot holiday abroad can be just what you need around April time.

You’ve made it through a cold, frosty and grey winter, so it’s only natural to seek out a sprinkling of sunshine.

Sadly, springtime isn’t a good weather guarantee in the UK. Sometimes, it’s all glistening sun and blooming flower meadows, but often you’ll find the forecast is filled with heavy rainfall and chilly winds.

Of course, many families will also be keen to get away in April as schools break up for their Easter holidays.

So, we’ve established April can be a pretty good month to jet off in search of sunnier climes – but where exactly can you find blue skies, balmy temperatures and warm seas?

Here’s where to go for hot weather in April.

    Where is hot in April?

    Tulum, Mexico

Tulum, Mexico is usually sunny in April (Picture: Getty)

    Temperature: 26°C (up to 29°C)
    Sunshine hours: Eight hours
Flight time: 10 hours, 35 minutes

You could visit just about anywhere in Mexico at this time of year. Cancun’s an obvious one, and for city and culture, you can’t go wrong with Oaxaca or Mexico City.

But for beaches, relaxation, and a chance to explore a few historic Maya sites, Tulum is a brilliant bet at this time of year, as the dry, sunny season draws to a close.

Not only is the weather perfect for sunbathing, the temperature of the water’s perfect for swimming and water sports at around 27°C.

    Egypt

Explore the Pyramids and Cairo in Egypt (Picture: Getty)

Temperature: 21°C (up to 27°C) for Cairo – with possible highs of 32°C elsewhere in the country
    Sunshine hours: 11 hours
Flight time: Four hours, 45 minutes

Egypt not only offers soaring temps in the high 20s and early 30s in April, but also very little rain.

According to TUI, the average amount of rainfall Egypt has in April is zero millimetres, and there’s a delightfully high 84% chance of having a cloud-free day. Woo!

It sounds rather blissful, as does ticking off the Great Pyramids of Giza and the Great Sphinx of Giza from your bucket list (via a pre-arranged tour), seeing the upcoming Grand Egyptian Museum (when it eventually opens, expected sometime in 2023), or taking a cruise of the River Nile.

If your destination is the capital, Cairo, explore the city’s many bazaars and discover Egyptian history in the Egyptian Museum.

    Costa del Sol, Spain

Fancy a classic beach getaway on the Costa del Sol? (Picture: Getty)

    Temperature: 16°C (up to 21°C)
    Sunshine hours: Nine hours
Flight time: Two hours, 45 minutes

Alright, so 16°C is hardly scorching, but high 10s and early 20s is pretty hot for Europe in April.

This pleasant strip of coast in the region of Andalusia is lovely at this time of year, offering a glimmer of sunshine and a chance to enjoy the beach. You will want to bring a jacket for cooler evenings, though.

The most famous destinations here in the UK are Malaga (which is a lovely city to explore, and easily accessible if you’re on a budget, as well as a famous party hotspot), Marbella, and the traditional town of Casares.

If you have the time (and a car), drive inland to discover more of Andalusia – home to the Alhambra in Granada, Córdoba’s famous Mosque-Cathedral, and the cities Seville and Cadiz.

    Florida Keys, USA

Key West in the glow of the morning sunrise

    Temperature: 25°C (up to 28°C)
    Sunshine hours: 10 hours
Flight time: 12 hours, 50 minutes

Florida is often known as The Sunshine State – because it’s amazingly hot, humid, and gloriously sunny year-round, thanks to its proximity to the Equator.

April’s a particularly nice time to visit this sun-drenched state, as temperatures soar towards 30°C (or 86°F as they’d tell you in the States). Hot, but definitely still bearable.

Family-friendly favourite destinations in Florida include Universal in Orlando and Disney World, plus there are beautiful beaches and boardwalks in Miami, as well as a taste of city life in Tampa or Jacksonville.

For something a bit different, though, head off the Floridian coast to the tropical Florida Keys – a stunning archipelago known for the chance to snorkel alongside dolphins, wildlife, kayaking and boat tours.

You can also take a tour of nearby Everglades National Park.

    Fes, Morocco

Have you see Chouara Tannery in Fes, Morocco? (Picture: Getty)

    Temperature: 15°C (up to 21°C)
    Sunshine hours: Eight hours
Flight time: Three hours, 20 minutes

Morocco is generally pleasant in April: it’s sunny, temperatures start to soar and there’s little rain.

Marrakech seems the obvious place to visit, and is well worth exploring – but don’t sleep on the northern city of Fes, which should also be on your travel wishlist.

Explore the UNESCO-listed Medina (the walled part of the city), admire the architecture of the local mosques – and see the historic Chouara Tannery for yourself.

High temperatures here aren’t out of the question, by the way. In April 2021, the highest recorded temperature in the city was a summer-esque 26°C.

    Antalya, Turkey

See the Mediterranean in Antalya, Turkey (Picture: Getty)

    Temperature: 16°C (up to 21°C)
    Sunshine hours: Nine hours
Flight time: Four hours, 15 minutes

Despite being one of Turkey’s most populous cities, you don’t often hear much about Antalya.

A shame, really, because this piece of the Turquoise Coast is quite gorgeous: bright blue seas, blissful beaches, beautiful harbour – the list goes on.

There’s more to the area than sand and sunbathing, namely, quite a lot of history dating back to the Roman Empire. Many moons ago, Antalya was once a bustling Roman port.

Look out for a well-preserved, second-century arched gate named for Emperor Hadrian (of Hadrian’s Wall fame), as well as the circular Hidirlik Tower from the same time period.

    Kos, Greece

The Greek island of Kos is more than beaches (Picture: Getty)

Temperature: 15°C (up to 18°C) – though the Met Office says it can get up to a warmer 21.4°C
    Sunshine hours: Seven hours
    Flight time: Around four hours

An island getaway in spring isn’t impossible: just head to the Greek island of Kos.

Part of the Dodecanese island group, Kos has a bit of a party reputation, but it has everything you’d want for a sunny getaway over Easter (including a good chance to 20°C weather).

Pretty beaches, a picturesque Old Town to explore, and plenty of fascinating ruins, including the Ancient Agora of Kos, await.

If you’re feeling adventurous, you could also visit Kos’ larger neighbour, Rhodes, which can also reach 20°C in April.

    Lanzarote

The Canary Islands, including Lanzarote, make great hot April holidays (Picture: Getty)

    Temperature: 20°C (up to 24°C)
    Sunshine hours: Nine hours
Flight time: Four hours, 10 minutes

Though officially part of Spain, Lanzarote can reach pleasant temperatures all year-round due to its ideal geographical position off the coast of Africa (not too far from Morocco).

This Canary Island has plenty of resort areas you can stay in to soak up all that warmth, including Playa del Carmen, Costa Teguise, and Playa Blanca – all offering comfortable hotels and beautiful beaches.

Beyond the typical resorts, Lanzarote is beloved for its otherworldly volcanic landscapes – mostly famously, Timanfaya National Park, and the lava tube Cueva de Los Verdes.

If you like a bit of relaxation and a hint of adventure on holiday, you can get the best of both worlds here.

It’s also a top choice for those who’ve done – and enjoyed – stays in Tenerife or Gran Canaria.

    Seychelles

The typical Seychellois rocks and the crystal sea in La Digue are features of one of the most beautiful beaches in the world, Anse Source d’Argent.

    Temperature: 28°C (up to 32°C)
Sunshine hours: Five to six hours
    Flight time: Around 14 hours

Located off the coast of East Africa in the Indian Ocean, the stunning Seychelles comprises 115 islands.

The biggest island, Mahé, is home to the country’s capital, Victoria, where visitors can take in its museums and Victoria Botanic Gardens. Mahé is also home to hiking haven Morne Seychellois National Park.

Of the other islands, you could hop to La Digue, Praslin, Silhouette and Denis – all have breathtaking beaches.

Curieuse, meanwhile, is perhaps better known for its unique coco de mer palm trees.

April is start of dry season in the Seychelles, and has an average temperature of 28°C – so it’s an ideal time, weather-wise, to make the lengthy trip.

    Cayman Islands

The Cayman Islands offers pristine beaches and warm weather (Picture: Getty Images)

    Temperature: 26°C (up to 30°C)
    Sunshine hours: 10 hours
    Flight time: Around 13 hours

In April, the Cayman Islands – a British Overseas Territory in the Caribbean Sea – enjoys average highs of up to 30°C.

Grand Cayman, the largest island, is known for pristine, white-sand beaches such as the famous Seven Mile Beach and Starfish Point (where you’ll, naturally, find a lot of starfish).

So, planting yourself at the beach is a possibility – though you won’t want to miss out on all there is to do on the island.

You could take a tour inside the Cayman Crystal Caves, hike the tree-covered Mastic Trail, try scuba-diving, and meet the local wildlife at Cayman Turtle Centre or Blue Iguana Conservation.

It’s a long journey from the UK, so you’ll also want to explore the two smaller islands, Cayman Brac and Little Cayman, particularly if you love nature.

    Las Vegas, USA

    Welcome to Vegas! (Picture: Getty)

    Temperature: 19°C (up to 26°C)
    Sunshine hours: 12 hours
Flight time: 10 hours, 50 minutes

If you’re feeling lucky, then fabulous Las Vegas is the place to be.

And if you’re after an American adventure with grand hotels, flashy activities, and beaming sun – but aren’t fussed about lazing at the beach – Nevada’s most famous place will tick your boxes.

Enjoy musical performances, magic shows, and major spectacles, as well as a spot of gambling at the casino.

Tapped out? Shun the strip for a nature walk through Red Rock Canyon, the wider Mojave Desert, or head towards the shared border with Arizona to see the Hoover Dam.

    The Algarve, Portugal

The Algarve is lovely in April, and not too far away by plane (Picture: Getty)

    Temperature: 16°C (up to 23°C)
    Sunshine hours: Nine hours
Flight time: Two hours, 50 minutes

Many say spring (March to May) is the perfect season for Portugal, despite the heat of summer.

Head to the Algarve in April to see if you agree. The southerly coastal region offers golden beaches and sunny skies – as well as great food and even greater wine.

Consider a break in beachy Albufeira, a visit to the cities of Faro and Lagos (home to the picture-perfect Praia do Camilo beach, down a flight of some 200 wooden steps) – or head out along the coast to discover traditional towns such as Tavira.

Don’t miss Sagres, a village at the southwestern tip of the Algarve, which is sometimes called ‘the end of the world’.

    Sorrento and Amalfi Coast, Italy

The drive along the Amalfi Coast is considered one of the world’s best (Picture: Getty)

    Temperature: 13°C (up to 18°C)
    Sunshine hours: Seven hours
Flight time: Two hours, 35 minutes

Stunning Sorrento (near Naples and Pompeii) and the Amalfi Coast go hand in hand. They’re only an hour or so apart by car.

And what a drive it is. A true ‘bucket list’ route with unforgettable views of the Mediterranean.

Perhaps the best-known stop along the way is the town of Positano – loved by photographers the world over for spectacular views of colourful houses, speckled across the cliffs.

Temperatures in April climb up to the high 10s (with a touch of luck), so it’s not the hottest destination in April by any stretch – though hopefully warmer than the UK, which averages at around 11°C at this time of year.

It’s an ideal temperature for enjoying the drive, and it’s the kind of beach you can enjoy whatever the weather.

    Mexico – 33C

April is considered a dry month for Mexico, meaning it’s the best time to visit if you’re after water-based activities like diving, swimming and surfing.

Flights from the UK take over 10 hours, and most hotels are on an all-inclusive basis, so the deals are the priciest of the bunch.

    • 7 nights at Hampton Inn and Suites By Hilton Los Cabos in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico – from £1,029pp
    • 7 nights at Riu Lupita in Playacar, Mexico – Caribbean Coast, Mexico – from £1,076pp

Where to go in may ? >

In Europe, spring has truly arrived with more sunshine and temperatures that are warming just about everywhere: It’s the time to take a dip in the Mediterranean on the beaches of Crete, Malta or the Balearic Islands. Scandinavia is still a little cool but the days are lengthening in a spectacular fashion that makes visits there far more agreeable. Turkey is also an ideal destination at this time of the year with warm temperatures and relatively uncrowded tourist areas.

In Asia, Cambodia, Vietnam and Nepal can still be explored comfortably but the majority of Asian countries are unpleasantly hot at this time. However, the Philippines are a great choice as the climate there is excellent at present for going from one island to another without the worry of typhoons. If you don’t mind crowds it is also the perfect time to see the flowering cherry trees in Japan. If Australia tempts you then now is the perfect month to discover the delights of Sydney.

In Africa, the entire Maghreb is already hot with glorious sunshine: It’s the perfect season for scouring the souks in Marrakech or getting a tan on the beaches at Djerba in Tunisia. The sun is also shining at Cap Vert and the temperatures are still tolerable at 20-25°C. It is also the beginning of the tourist season in Namibia which is gradually entering its dry season.

In America, California, Louisiana and Florida are great destinations at this time of the year as well as Central America and the Bermudas. Excellent time too for exploring New York with all it offers after the winter cold and before the summers that can be scorching.

    To be avoided:

Zanzibar and Tunisia that are currently experiencing their heavy rainy seasons. The same goes for South America which is experiencing a high and disagreeable level of humidity at present.

    Our choice

Those who crave heat and beaches could start to take a chance on the Mediterranean coastline in the run up to summer, either the North African or European side.

For travellers seeking more exotic destinations, Vietnam or the Philippines will entice you with their serenity in harmony with the season for an exotic getaway.

Cape Verde is a great alternative for those who want to be close to Europe yet appreciate a pleasantly agreeable tropical atmosphere.

The best travel destinations in april:

In this table are the best travel destinations for the month of april.
The global note of each has been uniquely calculated according to climate data, rated according to the most sunshine and least rainy days but doesn’t take into account local touristic specifics such as festivals, events etc that could make travel here especially interesting at this time.

where Ukrainians can fly on vacation and how much it costs

nine0006 The summer vacation season has started, and although many countries are closed to Ukrainians due to the pandemic, vaccination expands the list of places available for travel. Some EU countries are already opening their borders to tourists – however, entry rules vary.

We have analyzed the 10 most popular countries where Ukrainians can relax right now. We tell you what leisure is possible in each of them, how best to plan a route and how much the rest will cost.

    Greece

The cradle of European civilization and one of the most interesting tourist destinations in Europe, where holidays in seaside resorts can be combined with excursions to historical places. Greece is washed by the Mediterranean, Ionian and Aegean seas; popular holiday destinations are the Greek islands – Rhodes, Crete, Corfu, Santorini and others.

Among the most famous sights of the country are the Acropolis, the Parthenon, the temple of Zeus in Athens, the ancient city of Knossos, Mount Parnassus, the sanctuary of Olympia and many other temples, ruins, museums. You can go on a cruise or sea fishing. If you are traveling as part of a tour, excursions can be additionally ordered from the tour operator: prices start from 50-60 euros per person. Car rental — from 500 hryvnia per day. nine0005

Prices for tours to Greece range from 5,000 to 8,000 hryvnias per person per week in apartments (without meals) and from 17,000 to 36,000 hryvnias for holidays in 4 and 5-star hotels in the all inclusive format.

Self-guided vacation will be cheaper if you are traveling as a couple/group and share accommodation and food costs. Wizz Air flies to Greece, but only to Athens and Thessaloniki (the second largest city after the capital). A ticket to Athens will cost (one way) from 2 to 6.5 thousand hryvnia, the price depends on the day of the week and date of departure. A ticket to Thessaloniki is more expensive – it costs from 2 to 10 thousand. Ukrainian air carrier SkyUp offers flights to Rhodes from 3235 to 3869hryvnia – depending on the day of departure.

The price range for apartments on Booking.com is UAH 1,200-1,400 per night in an apartment for two people.

    Bulgaria

Our neighbors on the Black Sea, unlike other countries, do not offer a wide variety of tours, and the all inclusive holiday format here is more an exception than a rule (many hotels provide only breakfast, and you have to pay for other meals separately). However, the country is suitable if, in addition to a relaxing beach holiday, you are interested in exploring the area and tasting local dishes in mehans – restaurants of national cuisine.

If you prefer the urban drive of life, resorts such as Varna or Burgas, one of the largest cities in Bulgaria, are suitable. And small historical towns on the sea coast, such as Nessebar and Sozopol, will show you the bright Bulgarian architecture. Rest here will be more intimate. nine0005

In general, holidays in Bulgaria are cheaper than in Greece, but about the same as in Turkey – given that the issues of the route and meals basically need to be thought out on your own.

Wizz Air flies to Burgas. On average, tickets cost from 1.1 thousand to 2.5 thousand hryvnia. SkyUp offers flights from Kyiv, Zaporozhye, Kharkiv to Varna and Burgas costing from UAH 1,200 to 1,800 one way (you can plan further travel by bus, train or rent a car — from UAH 300 per day). nine0005

For 500-600 hryvnia per day, you can rent an apartment for two. The price may be lower if you book not through Internet services, but contact the apartment owners directly (these may be Ukrainians in Facebook groups).

    Cyprus

In addition to the actual sea island vacation, here you can discover the history, cuisine, flora and fauna of the island. The range of entertainment is varied and depends on preferences and wallet: for example, you can visit the turtle beach (Paphos, Lara beach), taste drinks at the Wine Museum (Limassol), visit the temple of Aphrodite (Paphos). Boat safaris, yacht cruises, gastro tours, excursions to national parks are also offered. nine0005

Last minute tours cost from UAH 6,000 to 9,000 per person (6-7 nights, 3-star hotel) or UAH 9,000-10,000 for holidays in higher-level hotels.

You can get to Cyprus on your own – it will also be cheaper. Wizz Air flies to Larnaca. On average, tickets cost from 1.1 thousand to 3.6 thousand hryvnia. If you now book accommodation, say, for August, it will cost 500-700 hryvnia per day for two people. Renting a car will cost UAH 1,200-1,500 per day. nine0005

    Turkey

In Turkey, known primarily as an all inclusive country, you can also organize independent holidays. True, it will not be much more profitable: it is cheaper to relax on a tour that includes a charter flight, food, and entertainment on site. But independent travel will be to the liking of those who want to see a different, non-brochure-tourist Turkey, see more places outside the resort and better capture the spirit of the country by communicating with the locals. nine0005

A weekly vacation in a tour package at popular tourist locations (Kemer, Side, Marmaris, Bodrum) will cost from 15 to 30 thousand hryvnia for two, depending on the number of hotel stars.

What else besides the sea? You can go hiking along the Lycian Way – this is one of the most popular routes that combines mountain hiking and relaxing on the beaches. You can go to Istanbul, the largest city in the country, or to Cappadocia, known as the center of hot air ballooning. Ticket prices vary depending on the date and destination: a ticket to Istanbul costs approximately 2,200-2,500 hryvnia, and you can get to Antalya Airport for 1,600-4,200 hryvnia (depending on the date). Housing prices in Turkey have fallen, not least due to the lack of Russian tourists: when planning an independent vacation, get ready to shell out from 160 to 400 hryvnia per day. nine0005

    Georgia

This is one of the most budget travel destinations on our list. The affordability of prices for flights, food, accommodation makes it a popular tourist destination among Ukrainian tourists. Tour operators offer tours to Georgia (seaside Batumi), but mostly without meals or with breakfast only. Therefore, we advise you to plan a trip to Georgia on your own.

Deacon of the Georgian Orthodox Church during the liturgy at the Trinity Cathedral in Tbilisi, Georgia, April 18, 2020

Among the popular cities for tourists are the capital Tbilisi, seaside Batumi, the mountainous region of Svaneti for those who like to conquer peaks, the wine-growing region of Kakheti. But wherever you go, there are enough colorful cafes and the famous Georgian hospitality everywhere. Here you can have a hearty meal for moderate money: lunch in a Georgian restaurant costs an average of 100-200 hryvnias. Food in supermarkets is also inexpensive.

The easiest way to get from Kyiv is Tbilisi or Batumi. Depending on the date, tickets cost UAH 2,400-3,300 one way. Housing – in the range from 100 hryvnia for an overnight stay in a hostel to 250-300 hryvnia per day in an apartment. nine0005

    Egypt

Egypt is close to Turkey in terms of price and holiday format: the same all inclusive and approximately the same cost of the tour from 14-15 thousand hryvnia per week in a three-star hotel to 18-20 thousand for 5 stars. Unlike the predominantly pebbly beaches of Turkey, here are either sandy beaches (in Hurghada) or with coral reefs (in Sharm el-Sheikh).

Some of the corals grow right on the shore, so when choosing a hotel, you should take into account the presence of a special bridge – a pontoon, through which you can enter the sea. And the corals themselves will appeal to diving enthusiasts. nine0005

Traveler Bogdan Skaskiv, who previously traveled to Egypt on his own, gives some main advice: it is better to book accommodation on the spot (he paid 11,200 hryvnia per month), bargain, if possible, take a car for traveling with a company (for example, a trip to the desert will cost 200 hryvnia per person: for this money the driver will take you there and back). And here is an independent car rental: $ 40 per day per person. A check in a cafe is 2.5-3 dollars (approximately 70-81 hryvnias). nine0005

    Montenegro

A beach holiday in this Balkan country is possible both as a service of a tour operator and as an independent option. Prices for tours vary between 15-22 thousand hryvnias, however, all inclusive is not developed here and the indicated cost does not include meals – only flights, transfers and accommodation.

An independent flight will cost UAH 2,500 for a one-way ticket to Tivat, Kotor, Budva, which are also seaside resorts. In addition to the sea, the country is known for lakes, highlands, canyons, the Bay of Kotor – the largest bay of the Adriatic Sea. In addition, there are many towns with a history that reaches back to the Middle Ages – they offer excursions. Rafting is popular. nine0005

The average price of renting an apartment in Montenegro is 180-400 UAH per day for a double room.

A girl dances at an open-air music festival in Shengjini, Albania on June 4, 2021

    Albania

The main resorts of the country are Durres, Saranda (youth places with a concentration of clubs, parties on the beaches), Vlora, Ksamil (bays that are suitable for a relaxing family holiday with children), as well as a number of small resort villages on the sea coast . nine0005

Another popular tourist location is Lake Koman. His landscapes are often compared to the Norwegian fjords. It is popular with cyclists who come here. Tour operators offer excursions to the reservoir – their cost is from 60 euros.

A tour to Albania costs 16-18 thousand hryvnias for two, but without food (flight, transfer, accommodation). Recreation options in the all inclusive format exceed prices in Turkey: approximately 34-35 thousand hryvnia for two.

Public transport between small settlements can hardly be called reliable and timely. An alternative is car rental: UAH 1,500 per day. nine0005

You can fly on your own from Kyiv, Kharkov, Lvov, Zaporozhye. A ticket to the capital Tirana costs from 1,700 to 2,600 hryvnias one way. The cost of renting accommodation on Booking.com ranges from 200 to 500 hryvnia per day (for 2-3 people).

    North Macedonia

This is the only landlocked country on the list – but with its own flavor. The two main cities worth visiting are the capital Skopje with its surroundings and Ohrid with the famous lake, the oldest in the Balkans – it is 5 million years old. There are tours, but it is more profitable to go on your own. Windrose operates weekly flights on Thursdays: the price of a ticket from Kyiv to Skopje is from UAH 3,700. nine0005

The capital is surrounded by mountains, has many restored historical monuments concentrated in the center – a castle, a mosque, an Orthodox church. In the resort Ohrid, it is worth seeing the amphitheater, the fortress, and you can ride a boat or boat on the lake (during the walk you will see churches, monasteries, a cave). In general, this is a good option for those who are looking for new routes, are ready for an active holiday and feel a kinship with the Balkan spirit.

You can travel between cities by bus or rent a car – for example here. Accommodation and meals are quite affordable: renting a room in the center of the capital for 2-4 people costs 400-500 hryvnia per night. Over the years, Skopje was included in the list of the cheapest cities in the world for foreigners. nine0005

A man on the pier in the city of Male, Maldives, September 25, 2018

    AP/Eranga Jayawardena

    Maldives

Made up of a series of coral islands in the Indian Ocean, the country is synonymous with expensive luxury holidays. Prices for tours are indeed significantly higher than, say, to Turkey or Egypt. Agencies offer tours for 62-70 thousand hryvnia for two per week. nine0005

But this is not the only way to get to the Maldives. When planning a trip on your own, you need to be prepared for a transfer, an independent search for housing and a transfer from the airport to the island. If you take care of the logistics, you can count on some savings: from $600 for round-trip tickets (for one person), from $390 for accommodation (for two). Such options should be planned several months before the trip and follow the promotional offers for flights and booking accommodation. nine0005

Things to remember: Entry rules due to the COVID-19 pandemic are subject to change, so please check the conditions prior to purchasing tickets/tours and booking accommodation. Information about the countries where and under what conditions Ukrainians can go, you can see on an interactive map.

As you know, spring in Russia comes relatively late, so our compatriots are increasingly choosing foreign resorts in search of warmth and sun. Weather in Turkey in April

Coming to Turkey from temperate latitudes in April, you understand how great it really is to break out of the nasty dampness and find yourself in a tropical paradise, in which the bright sun shines all day long, a gentle breeze blows, and nature delights the eye with amazing colors. The prevailing weather conditions give a confident hint that the start of the tourist season is already on the way. The locals consider it to be a very cool month. And by the standards of immigrants from northern Europe, this is the real summer. Just not overly hot, but very moderate. We can say that this is a turning point, when the days are conducive to wearing T-shirts, shorts, and the nights forget about the winter cold, but so far do not allow you to completely switch to a light wardrobe. However, thick sweaters, down jackets and hats are a thing of the past: the air temperature along the entire coast fluctuates around +10. .+13°C after sunset. This month is especially attractive for those who find it difficult to acclimatize to the exhausting heat, and who prefer active leisure to passive. Summer in Turkey is stuffy and sultry, while winter in most of the country is wet and dank. The middle of spring is almost the only time when the weather forecast for weather-dependent people is more or less optimal. The intensity of the rains is gradually weakening, but there is no talk of a complete absence of precipitation. Their largest volume falls in the Black Sea regions, which remain dominated by cold air masses, and in the mountainous eastern regions, where the skiing season is coming to an end: according to long-term observations of weather forecasters, about 12 days with precipitation are recorded here. nine0166

Turkey 14 day weather forecast →

By the way, the temperature level here is much lower than in other regions. So, in Sinop, Trabzon and Safranbolu, the thermometer readings are in the range of +8-+9°C..+14°C-+15°C. At the popular ski bases of Erzurum and Palandoken, frosts are likely at night – -1..0°C, and by lunchtime the environment heats up to +10. .+12°C. Spring Istanbul and Ankara are cities that you should definitely visit and see with your own eyes. Walking along their streets will be as comfortable as possible: at lunchtime – about +16..+18°C. If you intend to stay for several days, do not take care of warm clothes, as nighttime temperatures are in serious contrast to midday ones – in the capital about + 5 ° C, in Istanbul – + 8 ° C. If the trip is planned in order to enjoy a beach pastime, we recommend that you take a closer look at the Antalya resorts, where the heat reaches the fastest. The favorites of experienced tourists at this time are Kemer, Alanya, Belek and Side, where the thermometer shows from +12..13°C to +21..+23°C. Closer to May, peaks up to +25..+26°C are not excluded. As for the Aegean coast, it is traditionally cooler there: in Kusadasi – +9..+20°C, in Marmaris, Bodrum and Cesme – +11..+12°C in the evening and up to +21°C at the height of the day. In the first days of April, you need to be prepared for frequent cloudiness, but as you approach the third decade, the sky clears noticeably and pleases with an abundance of sunlight. As a result: April weather is much more stable than March, so there is no reason to be afraid of sudden mood swings. Around the 20th, the glowing power of the sun increases, and it begins to bake nicely, giving reason to hope for a beautiful tan. nine0005

What to do in Turkey in April?

Those who have bothered to visit Turkey during its usual summer season will be able to confirm that in April it is completely different – unhurried, without crazy excitement around iconic sights and not spoiled by the money of tourists who have not yet had time to flood all the hotels. This, in addition to low prices, promises a number of positive aspects, namely: the attention and courtesy of the attendants, as well as the opportunity to feel the atmosphere of the East, enjoy a measured secluded, albeit not a beach holiday, and join living history at a calm, slow pace. The invigorating sea waters will not be able to fully satisfy the needs of vacationers, but each of them will still find something to entertain themselves with, getting to know this amazing hospitable country. nine0005

    Beach holiday

The ever-warming sun rays are actively bringing the opening of the swimming season closer. However, in April, sea water is unlikely to give a reason for swimming. Good chances for this appear only in the last days. And even then not everywhere, but only in the Mediterranean resorts, whose coastal waters reach +18..+19°C by this time. At +11..+13°C on the Black Sea (the area of Trabzon) there is nothing else left but to contemplate the surf, breathe in the salty fresh breeze and stroll slowly along the coast. It is much warmer in the Aegean Sea: in Bodrum, Fethiye, Marmaris, Izmir – about + 17 .. + 18 ° C, but dipping in it is fraught with a cold, and only people with strong hardening decide on them. There are exceptions, when in early spring the sea warms up to more or less acceptable values for swimming. nine0005

The resort infrastructure is put into operation, as a rule, by the end of the third decade. Those who wish can ride a yacht, play volleyball or try parachuting. As for sunbathing, on cloudless windless days, you can freely sunbathe without fear of “melting”. For those with sensitive skin, we recommend using a protective cream.

    Entertainment and excursions

Turkey, which combines the Ottoman, Byzantine and Roman cultures, has a rich historical heritage. In summer, when the mercury column exceeds 30 degrees, not everyone can be convinced of this. Travel seems too tiring. And if someone ventures into them, they often cause mixed feelings: organized excursions, due to the incredible rush, are more like a simple run of participants along the objects of a tourist show. You have to choose – either take photos or listen to the guide. It is very difficult to combine both because of the crowded people that are happening. So the warm off-season is the best period for this, when there are no crowds, and the heat does not exhaust ahead of time. nine0005

If you have rights, we recommend renting a car and thoroughly traveling around the country in order to get acquainted with architectural structures, unique historical monuments, craft and spiritual centers, masterpieces of nature one on one. While trees in their native latitudes are overgrown with young foliage, and primroses are breaking out from under the frozen ground, juicy greenery is rampant here, and gardens are fragrant with wondrous aromas. Aesthete travelers will be able to enjoy the picturesque landscapes, and amateur photographers will be able to take a lot of amazing pictures. Fans of a less active holiday program will be able to relax in the hammam, improve their health at the Pammukale thermal springs (plus everything on the Sea of Marmara – these are centers in Yalova and Armutlu),

frolic in water parks, make profitable shopping (it’s easy to negotiate a discount on the eve of the season), taste local cuisine and dance to your heart’s content at discos.

    Holidays and festivals

The high spirits are supported in April by numerous events. On the 23rd, Turkey celebrates National Independence Day in a big way. Since it coincides with Children’s Day, the program of events includes concerts, briefings and performances organized by schoolchildren. There is a legend in Turkey that happiness is hidden inside the tulip bud. This month is a good time to go in search of it to Istanbul, where, according to a long-established tradition, a holiday dedicated to this touching flower is held. Also, this city meets the Istanbul International Film Festival. In turn, in Manisa, near the walls of the Muradiye mosque, a festival is expected in honor of the memory of the miraculous healing of Sultana Aisha, who was helped by the magic Mesir ointment. She served as the name of this celebration. nine0005

What are the prices for holidays in Turkey in April?

One of the advantages of April Turkey is democratic prices. Hotels and spas are not packed to capacity, so hoteliers are making concessions to curb skyrocketing rates. True, by the end of the month the cost of vouchers, one way or another, increases by 15-20%. In order not to overpay, use the option of early booking.

April is a transformative month especially now, as Covid-19 travel restrictions ease across most of the world. Cooler temperatures make the Caribbean and Middle East explorable, so you can travel without breaking too much of a sweat. And in many places, its your last chance to cash in on the last month of low season, when you can cruise Croatia or hike the Amalfi Coast in peace.

Best Countries To Visit In April (2022)

Planning A Trip In April? Here’s our list of best countries to visit in April

This is the April Fool’s month. Quite the departure from all the serious bleakness of winter’s frost and summer’s heat. April brings spring to the Northern Hemisphere and autumn to the Southern, making colours burst in different hues across the globe. April also marks the vacation season in India and hence major holiday trips are planned. If you are one of the those, then here’s a list of some of the best countries to visit in April, from the brilliant mosques and mountains of Turkey to quaint side-walk cafes of France, the canals and windmills of Netherlands to cherry blossoms of Japan. The world is your oyster and April is the time to jump in!

    Turkey

    Photograph by http://tlc-travel.com.ua

The land of Turks, Black sea and Baklava, which also happens to straddle the two continents of Asia and Europe, Turkey is also a very coveted tourist destination. Suffused with its mosques, minarets, modern cities, rugged hills, sea-side fishing towns and amazing food (read: Shorba, kofta sandwiches and dondurma ice cream), the erstwhile Ottoman Empire is a charming place. The country comes alive in spring season, with winter breaking and sun becoming more merciful. In April, Turkey sees a daily average of 16°C, with slightly warmer seas. The Tulip Festival in Istanbul, Ankara International Arts Festival and Javelin Games in Erzurum are a few of the April highlights here.

    Things to Do:

Start your Turkish holiday with the cultural and ancient capital city – Istanbul. Visit Hagia Sophia, the  17th century blue coloured mosque with Christian mosaic and blue domes. Topkapi Palace and Sultan Ahmed Mosque are also quite beautiful. A drive down the bridge across Bosphorus strait must also be on your bucket list. For shopping in Istanbul, explore the spice bazars and old markets hunting for dry fruits, jewellery, silverware, spices, linens and their famous Turkish coffee. Also, do visit the Maiden’s Tower before moving on to the next city, Ankara. This is the capital of Turkey and famous for Ankara Castle. Then there is Pamukkale town, known for its mineral-rich thermal water bound by white coloured terraces. Other tourist attractions here are the ancient Roman spa city called Hierapolis, Cappadocia, Antalya and Mardin.

    How to Reach:

Turkey boasts of two major International airports – Atatürk International Airport (Istanbul) and Esenboğa Airport (Ankara). Mumbai, Delhi and Bangalore operate non-stop flights to Turkey with Emirates as a major player. People also drive into Turkey from European countries including Germany, Italy, France, Greece etc. For internal commute, you can take buses, domestic flights, ferries and boats, hire cars or hail taxis.

    France

    Photograph by https://www.aperturetours.com

One of the most romantic countries in the world with a history that rests on the ideals of democracy – Liberation, Equality, Fraternity; France is a beautiful place located in the western part of Europe. Known also as the fashion capital of the world with Paris as its gem city, France becomes a coveted tourist destination. Especially in the month of April, when Spring comes to France, with a temperature range from start to end of April being 9°C on 1st April to 12.5°C on the 30th. Rainfall is there but very less, and sunshine is bright to make sure a happy holiday is in store for you. April 1st is also the April Fool’s day or the Poisson d’Avril and celebrated by playing pranks.

    Things to Do:

France is a delight of charms, right from idyllic walks down cobbled streets of medieval villages to late night dancing in the lounges of Paris, from walking past the world’s best fashion brands in Nice to exploring the iconic Eiffel Tower, Louvre Museum and Notre Dame. You have a lot of touristy delight coming your way here, especially in the delicate French cuisine and pastries. In spring, the parks are green and heavenly, ready for picnics and strolls, with musicians by the curb playing their guitars and accordions and poets writing you a poem for a few coins. Explore the French Alps or Burgundy for wine tasting events, visit Lascaux for its ancient drawings, and Lyon’s Roman theatre for its history. The Palace of Versailles is another enigma, while Nice is great for beaches. If you are in love with the retro, then head to Moulin Rouge, a 19th Century cabaret.

Another beautiful part of France is the French Riviera that includes Cannes, Saint Tropez and Monaco. They make for a few luxury resort towns. Disneyland Paris is an un-missable destination too, as is Corsica (Tin Tin fans known what this is, Tamasha fans too).

    How to Reach:

Paris and Orly (south of Paris) are the two main international airports in France. Air India, Jet Airways, Air France, British Airways etc ply on the routes from Mumbai, New Delhi and Chennai to France. You can also sail across the English Channel from Calais (England) to Dover (France). Or take the Eurostar from one of the various European cities.

    Greece

    Photograph by http://compassandpassport.com

The land of Acropolis, yogurt, white-washed islands and swoon-worthy Greek gods, Greece is a country in Europe that has been called the cradle of the Western civilisation. With its collection of islands and mainlands done in superb sparkling whites and cobalt blues, kissed by the azure seas, Greece makes for a brilliant holiday destination at the right times of the year; one of them being April. It is spring season and the highest temperature goes up to 20°C at this time, with very less crowd and almost nil precipitation (only 6 rainy days). The April Fool’s Day, The Feast of Saint George and sometimes even Easter fall in this month.

    Things to Do:

Start with the Greek capital, the city of Athens, that is home to some pretty iconic sights like the Parthenon, National Archaeological Museum and the Acropolis. The Island of Santorini is another awesome destination, soaked to the skin with picture perfect views, white-washed homes, steps carved out of stone and resorts that spoil you with their pampering. You can also go to the island of Mykonos and plan a leisure stay there, with its markets and gentle hikes. Another great place for a stroll is Europe’s oldest city, Knossos of Crete. Visit Olympia in Peloponnese to see its renowned archeological site by the same name. If you want some thumping music and happening nightlife, visit Thessaloniki. Finally, trek up Mt. Olympus in Macedonia. It is called the mountain of gods as it features at the centre of Greek mythology. All that myth coupled with great views is bound to make one hell of a holiday memory.

    How to Reach:

Greece’s main international airport is located in Athens, called the Elefthérios Venizélos International Airport. Some major airlines flying here from India are Turkish Airlines, Air France, Emirates, Jet Airways, etc. You an also take a ferry from Turkey or drive in across the border. Ferries and cruises come to Greece from Italian ports such as Bari, Trieste and Venice, while trains and buses come from all major European counties.

    Netherlands

    Photograph by https://www.locationscout.net

Netherlands has been affectionately referred to as the land of canals, and not wrongly. The country is intermeshed with canals of water that even float houseboats, riding straight through the city and paved roads. A real wonder, with tulip gardens, windmills and art museums in Van Gogh’s memory, Netherlands is a brilliant burst of culture, life and cheer. The winters are very cold here but come April and spring sets in, with average highs of 12°C. The month of April also marks the blooming of Tulips in this country hence it hosts the famous Tulip Festival Amsterdam, the Gold cycle race and the national celebration for King’s Day.

    Things to Do:

The Dutch love their chocolate and bread so make sure you tuck in a fair share here. When it comes to exploring, start with some of the most brilliant, undiscovered cities like the Hague and Rotterdam. The best thing to do here, as the locals do, is to hire a bicycle and peddle away from place to place. In fact, people hardly use cars here; its either your boat or the bicycle. In Amsterdam itself, spend some time exploring canals with boats and museums dedicated to Anne Frank ( the Jewish girl who survived World War II and accounted it all in her diary). There are also museums of Van Gogh’s art as well as some of Rembrandt. You must also pay a visit to Zaanse Schans, an idyllic open air museum in a traditional Dutch village. Finally, go to the Garden of Europe for those tulips we said bloom in April. April also hosts many marathons, cycling races and King’s Day celebrations all across the country; keep an eye out for each.

    How to Reach:

When flying out from India, you have the option of Mumbai, Chennai, Hyderabad, Bangalore and Delhi airports. Some major airlines flying from India to Amsterdam are British Airways, Etihad and Emirates. In Netherlands, there are connecting domestic flights and trains but bicycles are always the preferred mode for relatively shorter distances.

    Scotland

    Photograph by https://www.nationalgeographic.com

Scotland, a part of the United Kingdom, has for the longest time been called the land of glens, tartans and whiskey. Not to mention the fierce Scottish highlanders. Today the country is home to as much electrifying historical base as it is to modern cities like Glasgow and Edinburgh. The country is frozen solid through winters and is rained upon almost all year round, hence the best time to visit Scotland starts from spring and goes all the way until the end of summer. In April, spring blooms in Scotland with maximum temperature climbing up to 17°C. Daffodils, rhododendrons and cherries blossom, giving a burst of colour to this otherwise grey and green land. April also marks the fire festival of Beltane, the pagan source festival from where the Christian Easter has been derived.

    Things to Do:

For fans of the Netflix show Outlander, Scotland is bound to be your dream come true. The show has been entirely shot here and there are special ‘Outlander tours’ arranged. You can also visit places like Cairngorms and Northwest Highlands to take in the scenery of the place. Hikes and treks are quite common too. Visit the Loch Ness (Lake) and don’t miss the story of the Loch Ness monster. There is also Loch Lomond as well as the breath-taking Isle of Skye. Another historical sight worth visiting in Scotland is the Culloden moor, the field where the bloody battle of 1746 was fought between Scottish Highlanders and British soldiers over the throne of England. It bears the graves of the deceased highlanders, whose culture was stripped off as a result of the battle of Culloden. In fact, 16th April marks the anniversary of the battle and is a special day at the museum.

You must also explore Holyrood Palace and Edinburgh castle while here and drink lots of whiskey, eat lots of ‘shot-bread’ and ‘scones’ and pick up a little Scottish accent for back home.

    How to Reach:

Scotland’s major international airports are Aberdeen International Airport, Edinburgh Airport, Glasgow International Airport, Glasgow Prestwick International Airport, Inverness and Dundee. Stopover flights from Mumbai to Edinburgh are available with airlines like Air India and British Airways. The National Rail System of Scotland and Great Britain rail system together have a smooth network, making travel from England to Scotland very easy. Buses are also an option, as are cars.

    Singapore

    Photograph by https://tripofun.wordpress.com

Once known as Singapura, the kingdom has since seen many a trials and tribulations. This south-asian country was liberated from British colonisation in 1960 and has since shown one of the fastest growth rates among all the Commonwealth nations. It is a global business hub today, a shopping paradise, a top tourist destination and a breath-taking city-country to soak in all that fast-paced life. April here is breezy and warm, with thunderstorms on the heel and rainfall for around 20 days. The temperature however does not cross 31°C, making it ideal to explore.

    Things to Do:

Take a day of Universal Studios and the Marine Park here, filled as they are with thrilling rides, theatres of your favourite cartoon and superhero shows, fairytale castles, aqua park and much more. Go to the Sentosa Island, which is also a fun, luxurious collection of beaches, clubs, resorts and shows. Bird Park is ideal for bird lovers and Cloud Dome, Forest Dome and the public parks of Singapore for nature lovers. This time of the year they are in full bloom. Try the night safari in the zoo here with fire shows and animal shows to amuse you, and finally head to the main city for some modern fun. Marina Bay Sands is famous for its roof-top views of the Singapore skyline and fountain show, while the ferris wheel is the largest in Asia. Also check out the promenade by the famous Singapore Merlion, the statue of a lion spewing water. Shopping here is not the road-side bargaining kinds usually, but done in plush malls. Victoria Street and Bugis Street are some of the best here. Charles & Keith, being a home brand, always hosts special discounts here.

    How to Reach:

Singapore’s Changi International Airport is one of the most plush airports of the world, featuring in top 10. It caters to most flights, international in particular, with those coming in from Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Delhi and Kochi. People also drive to Singapore from Malaysia. In Singapore, you can use the metro system, hail cabs or hire a car for travel.

Most states of USA are in their 20s at this time while places like New York, Washington etc are between 15-20°C, with plenty of sunshine.

    Things to Do:

The capitol Washington DC is particularly beautiful at this time of the year, with cherry blossoms lending it a baby pink Hue. The state hosts numerous cherry blossom festivals (Japan style) as well as celebrates the famous Easter Egg Roll in the White House with the President and his family. Miami is also quite coveted at this time, with its beaches, promenades and food-wine festivals, while Orlando’s theme parks like Disneyland and Universal are best explored in April weather. Vegas celebrates beer at this time of the year and hence you will find yourself surrounded by all kinds and brands, while New York is alive with pillow fights (yes, come in pyjamas and indulge with a soft pillow at night). You must also visit Seattle, Boston (Patriot’s Day parade on 16th April must not be missed) and Saint Antonio in Texas. Party hard in Los Angeles and of course, don’t forget to go to Hollywood for a stunning photoshoot at all the incredible markers.

    How to Reach:

USA is a huge country, half of a continent, so to speak. Hence for you to fly there really depends on which coast and which part of the coast you are visiting. Almost all big US cities ave flights (direct, and mostly stop-over) from Indian cities like Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, Ahmedabad etc. In America, it is best to travel cross country by air or car, depending on your plans. Trains are well connected but not the most famous. Buses will also take you from city to city.

    Vietnam-Laos

    Photograph by https://kids. nationalgeographic.com

Vietnam is a beautiful country situated by the South China Sea, renowned for its rivers, beaches, Buddhist monasteries and ancient cities. Usually, Vietnam is a destination combined with another nearby country – either Laos or Cambodia. In April, Vietnam is best combined with Laos, another Southeast Asian country known for its mountains, French architecture, tribes and of course, Buddhist Gompas. The temperatures in both these countries are down during April, as is the humidity. Rainfall is at its lowest and hence makes for a great time to explore the outdoors.

    Things to Do:

Start your holiday with Vietnam, at the capital city of Hanoi. The city is richly made with the iconic marble mausoleum of their Communist-era leader Ho Chi Minh. The Ho Chi Minh City too, named after the leader, is a great tourist attraction with its French colonial architecture, historic war museums and the very famous Củ Chi tunnels that were once used by Viet Cong soldiers. You can also cruise down Halong Bay, pay a visit to the Cao Dai Temple in Tay Ninh and go to town with great nightlife and pubs of Vietnam.

While in Laos, explore the Golden City Temple also called Wat Xieng Thong, situated in the old quarter of Luang Prabang. Viewpoint Nong Khiaw is famous for its amazing views, while shopping is great in the Luang Prabang Night Market, with loads of local street food stalls. You can also indulge in adventure here, from the eerie Underground River Caves (Kong Lor Cave) to treks up Mount Phousi, and cycling, kayaking and hiking up Luang Prabang.

Today the positive vibes of those meditations make this place a beautiful paradise, an almost tranquil country with yoga, hiking, adventure and massages awaiting you. April is one of the best months to visit Bhutan as it marks the pleasant, dry spring here, with blooming flowers and clear skies before heat of summer engulfs it. The interests of the land were represented in the Reichstag. nine0005

In the 12th-14th century, the lands where the Slavs lived, one way or another became part of the Empire. The Slavic population was forced out or assimilated.

The Holy Roman Empire ceased to exist at the beginning of the 19th century during the Napoleonic Wars. Tenerife Weather 28 March to 3 April
Generally the week started bright and sunny before cloud, rain and a cool wind in parts made midweek pretty miserable everywhere for a couple of days. Looking at webcams for all parts of  Tenerife midweek and it just looked bleak. Wet and windy beach resorts are not pretty sights and some scenes of Playa Troya in Costa Adeje looked like a wet weekend in… (place your choice of British seaside resort here). In the Orotava Valley we simply stayed indoors from Wednesday afternoon till Friday morning. Thankfully we didn’t have the wind parts of the south had, but the rain didn’t seem to let up.
The grey skies continued into the weekend in some parts but thankfully the sun returned for the weekend in Puerto de la Cruz to give the visiting walkers, on the island for the Tenerife walking Festival, a warm and sunny end to their week.

Weather Forecast for Tenerife 4 to 10 April
It’s looking like it might be another unsettled week with a mix of sun, cloud and rain forecast for just about everywhere. There should be sunny spells on most days but Wednesday and Thursday could be particularly grey and damp. The south should see less rain than the north but it doesn’t look like a great one anywhere… unless you’re a farmer.
Best area for sunshine, as it so often is, should be the south west of the island.

However, it’s got the feel of being one of those weeks where the outlook could change as the week progresses.

Weather in South Tenerife –  The week should start warm bright and sunny. There could be a dip midweek with cloud and rain on Wednesday and Thursday looking like a grey, cool, wet day. It’s short-lived and the sun, with only some cloud as company, should be back from Friday and over the weekend. There is a slight chance of showers on other days but they’re unlikely. Shade temperatures start the week at 22/23C dropping to 17/19C from Wednesday till Sunday.

Weather in North Tenerife –  It looks like there could be a north/south divide. Although the sun should shine every day, there will be a lot of cloud about as well and a good chance of showers at some point every day. This applies especially from Tuesday night onwards when, apart from Saturday, the possibility of rain is 90/100%. Temperatures start the week around 20/22C in the shade dropping slightly to 18/19C between Thursday and Saturday before dropping more to 16C on Sunday.

Weather in East Tenerife –  Much the same as the outlook for the north except Wednesday, Thursday and Friday could be particularly grey and dreary. Temperatures mirror those of the north.

Weather in South West Tenerife – The south west is the place to be this week with sunshine forecast for every day. The second half of the week will have more cloudy spells but it should still be a lot sunnier than anywhere else. There’s a slight chance of showers every day with Thursday looking most likely (60%). Temperatures start the week around 22/23C in the shade dropping to 18/19C from Wednesday through to the weekend.

Weather in the Mount Teide Crater – It’s the same picture in Teide National Park with a mix of sun and cloud all week and showers predicted for Monday night, Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday afternoon at crater level. The only place on Tenerife which looks as though it will be basking in full sunshine all week could be the tip of Mount Teide. Temperatures should hover between 7 and 8C in the crater and 0 and 4C on the peak of Mount Teide. Strong winds on Wednesday might affect the running of the cable car.

The Tenerife Weather This Time in 2015
So what happened this time last year? ‘The week started with quite a bit of cloud about as predicted and some light showers in parts with the south enjoying more sunny spells than the north. From Wednesday it changed with the north being warm and sunny and the south having a bit more cloud and wind in some areas.

Majorca in April and things to do on a budget – Tigrest Travel Blog

    Palma de Mallorca, Spain

    Where is Mallorca?

Mallorca, or Majorca is a Spanish island on the Mediterranean Sea and it belongs to the Balearic Islands family (along with Menorca, Ibiza and Formentera). It’s really compact and has a lot to offer to its guests. Easy Spanish pace will charm anyone who comes down here for a visit –whether it’s a party holiday, family vacation or just a weekend getaway. Unlike Canary Island Tenerife, where summer is all year round, Mallorca has it’s own seasons. Here are our best things to do in Majorca in April on a budget!

Things to do in Majorca in April on a budget – Best time to visit

I’ve been to Mallorca three times and each time it is a new discovery. If you are looking to explore the island and enjoy the local atmosphere, try to avoid summer season when it is overcrowded with young party seekers. Majorca in April is a true gem! April is a good month to travel there, especially during Easter time. The city of Palma arranges feat with parade and traditional activities. The old town is filled with spectators who came to have a glance at the parade. It’s truly magical and absolutely worth a visit!

    Where to stay

Palma is a good option if you don’t mind a city pace. It is indeed a place where people live and work, it’s not a resort town. So if you are looking for an easy and slow beach holiday, consider staying at some of the nearby resorts. The one I particularly recommend is called S’Arenal – it’s a wonderful resort off season, just before it gets crowded. The beach line is stretched for 4 km and the promenade is perfect for slow evening strolls or morning jogs. The resort has a variety of restaurants, most of the visitors are from Germany and Holland (Brits prefer the other side of Palma).

Even hostels are acceptable quality and the price is great – you can get a room for as low as 40€ per night breakfast included. Make sure to monitor prices and book early.

    The Beach

The beach is sandy and clean, taken care of properly. The water is rather salty and could be cold is April. So for all beach lovers – September/October is probably a better time to visit the island, as the sea temperature might still be high enough to swim. If swimming is not your thing, consider taking a yacht trip. There are countless little agencies offering day trips with lunch. These trips are very relaxing, especially if the weather is nice.

    Food

Truing out delicious food is a must in Spain, no matter where you go. Spanish people love food and know how to value it. The dinner usually starts late when friends or families gather together. You will see locals having dinners with friends. Make sure to try traditional Spanish dishes, although they might be hard to find in the resorts (in S’Arenal there are mostly German restaurants). Taking a trip to Palma might be a good idea.

Here are some recommendations with the best places to eat Tapas.

Tapas Club – Carrer del Vicari Joaquim Fuster, 6707006 Palma

La Taberna de la Bóveda – Passeig de Sagrera, 307012 Palma

Cuevas del Drach – Dragon caves

Located in Porto Christo, these caves are certainly worth a visit for everyone. Total length is 1200 meters, there is an underground lake at the bottom! They can be easily reached with local transport from Palma. The ticket includes a short movie followed by a bit of live music played from the boat on the lake. If you are lucky, you might even have a chance to sail the same boat. During summer season tours start every hour between 10am and 5pm.

    Entry prices: 14,50€ /adult, 7,50€/child.

    Train to Soller

If train journeys are of interest, Mallorca has one particularly interesting trip to offer – a trip to a town called Soller with an over 100 year old train. The length of the journey is 27km and the price is 15€ one way. During the trip you will be passing olive plantations, orange tree gardens as well as valleys and tunnels. There will be a photo stop on the edge of one valley – prepare your camera! Beware that Soller is not a located on the sea, so if you are looking to spend a day in a fishing village and be crazy about it like Jimmy John Shark, take a tram to Port de Soller. This little town is located in a very picturesque environment and the restaurants are preparing delicious seafood.

Roundtrip ticket (including tram) will only cost you 30€.

    Moving around

Mallorca offers great public transport: buses are connecting Palma with all nearby resorts and run every 30 minutes. Direct bus connection from the Airport to S’Arenal is available. If you feel you fit enough – don’t hesitate and get a bike. Riding from S’Arenal to Palma is a wonderful experience and takes approximately 1 hour. Renting a bike will cost 10€ per day. Scooters are also popular and easy to ride, however, the price is higher – approx. 40€ per day. You don’t need a license to ride 50cc scooter but make sure you know what you are doing.

Must see for all bird lovers. Photo by Tigrest

    Sightseeing bus

Another way to experience Mallorca is to go on a Hop On/Hop Off bus ride – it’s fun, easy and inexpensive. For the fee of 17€ you will have a chance to see the town and its surroundings and get out on the points you are interested in. One of the most interesting stops is Castell de Bellver – a castle built in 14th century that was formerly used as a military prison. The price is 4€ and it is open Mondays 8.30am to 1pm, Tue-Sat from 8.30am to 8pm. Guided tours are available at extra cost.

weather by month, temperature, precipitation, when to go

The climate of Nice is Mediterranean, with mild, relatively rainy winters and hot, sunny summers, sometimes sultry, but tempered by the breeze.

The city is located in the department of the Alpes-Maritimes, on the Mediterranean coast, about 20 km (12 miles) from the Italian border.

We are in the French Riviera proper, the one that does not receive the cold and dry wind from the north called Mistral (which blows in the Rhone river valley).

The average temperature of the coldest month (January) is of 9.6 °C (49.3 °F), that of the warmest month (July) is of 24.5 °C (76 °F). Here are the average temperatures.

Winter, from December to February, is mild, with sunny periods alternating with rainy periods.

Every now and then, when the wind blows from Russia, there can be cold waves as well.

On the coast, snow is very rare, and snowfalls with accumulation on the ground only occur in the coldest winters. In January 1985, even 38 cm (15 in) of snow fell, while other episodes were less remarkable (10 cm or 4 inches in February 1956 and February 1986, a few centimeters on 1 March 2005, in December 2009 and in February 2010). On the first hills of Nice, however, snow is a little more frequent.

Generally, in the coldest nights of the year, the temperature drops to around 0 °C (32 °F), however, on colder winters, it has dropped to lower values. The coldest record is -7 °C (19.5 °F) and was set in January 1985.

Summer is hot and sunny, with very rare rains.

Nice is quite sheltered from the heat waves of African origin that have recently been affecting France, and generally the temperature does not go above 32/33 °C (90/91 °F) on the hottest days of the year. However, the highest record is 37.7 °C (99.9 °F) and was set in August 2006.

On average, there are around 2,720 sunshine hours per year: the city, like in general the south of France, is very sunny. Here are the average sunshine hours per day.

The sea temperature ranges between 13.5 °C (56 °F) and 24 °C (75 °F). The sea is therefore never very warm, but it becomes altogether acceptable for swimming in July and August. Here are the average sea temperatures.

    Best Time

The best time to visit Nice is the spring, from mid-April to mid-June. September is also a good month, but it is quite rainy. Summer, from mid-June to August, can be hot and muggy, even though it’s the best time for those who also want to swim in the sea. Winter is generally mild, but it can sometimes get cold and it can rain.

Unusual planet: the island of eternal spring

From an airplane, this Spanish island with an area of 60 x 20 km looks like a blanket of multi-colored patches – gray, reddish-yellow, almost black and other shades. Greens come across occasionally, but they are all surrounded – in the east, from Africa, narrow, and in the west, facing the Atlantic, wide – a white border of surf. In Lanzarote, a lot can amaze the imagination, says the magazine “Around the World”. Lanzarote is one of the large islands of the Canary archipelago; located 140 km from the coast of Africa and 1000 km from mainland Europe. There are more than 300 volcanoes here, so it is also called the “island of fire-breathing mountains.” From 1730 to 1736, the island was subjected to a series of destructive eruptions, as a result of which part of the territory was covered with lifeless basalt and ash. Beneath the lava were fertile soils and 11 villages. Another volcanic eruption occurred in 1824, which was less violent. Over time, it turned out that onions, potatoes, tomatoes, melons, and grapes grow beautifully on black ash. The picture is especially impressive: green transparent gems – olivines interspersed in black volcanic rock. And how grapes are grown on these soils is just a miracle of miracles. After the last volcanic eruption, the peasants dug small round “craters” in the ashes. Each vine lies in a separate such hole – pikon. The “craters” were surrounded by semicircular stone walls to protect them from the wind. So, despite the small amount, you can do without irrigation: the picon draws in night moisture and gives it to the soil lying under it, and protects it from drying out during the day. Therefore, small vines produce 20 or even more kilograms of grapes per year. The picture is amazing, in which these vineyards are just visible.UNESCO declared the island a biosphere reserve. Driving into the park is prohibited. To see unusual landscapes, tourists are transferred to a special bus or camels. According to tourists, the landscape can be described with only one word – “lunar” (it’s not without reason that plots for science fiction films are filmed here). But even among these amazing island landscapes, a place of stunning beauty stands out. Near the fishing village of El Golfo, a rock rises that resembles a giant petrified wave, and an emerald green lagoon stretches under the rock. This is the inner edge of the volcanic cone, half of which is hidden by the sea. Lanzarote is often referred to as the “Island of Eternal Spring” due to its subtropical, moderately hot and dry climate. Most days the weather is warm, sunny and dry, the water temperature hardly drops below 20°C. In winter, on the coast, the air temperature rarely drops below + 10 ° and rarely rises above + 25 °; in summer it rarely falls below +20°, but often exceeds +30°. Light precipitation falls mainly in winter, and in summer it is a rare occurrence. Of the winds, sirocco predominates; hot and dry, it sometimes causes dust storms.
