Sights & the best Photo Spots

The most famous town and tourist center on the north coast of Tenerife is Puerto de la Cruz. We spent a whole day here and find that the city has a lot to offer visitors: from beautiful photo spots in the traditional fishing district of La Ranilla to the species-rich Loro Parque and the impressive Botanical Garden.

Table of contents

Things to know about Puerto de la Cruz

Puerto de la Cruz is the eighth largest municipality in Tenerife and, together with some neighboring municipalities, forms a conurbation in which about 140,000 inhabitants live. Even before 1502, today’s city was “only” the fishing port of the city of La Orotava, about 300 meters higher, but grew more and more into a strategically important location in Tenerife. After the first real hotels opened at the end of the 19th century, tourism slowly picked up speed, so that Puerto de la Cruz was declared a ‘place of tourist importance’ by the Spanish government in 1955. Today, tourism is a driving factor in the city and determines the economic and cultural life.

The most famous sights in Puerto de la Cruz

In order to be able to explore the city on foot, we parked our rental car very centrally at the Plaza de Europa in an underground car park. From here, all the major attractions in the city center are easily accessible on foot and on your own.

A tour of the city center

At our starting point, the Plaza de Europa, the first sight was already to visit. The Bateria de Santa Barbara was originally the fortification and defense of Puerto de la Cruz to protect and defend the city from possible pirate attacks. The six cannons you see here all come from the 18th and 19th century.

A little further west we passed the small fishing port of Puerto Pesquero and the black pebble beach Playa del Muelle. Here is a very beautiful sculpture of a fisherman. From here it is only a few steps to the Plaza del Charco, which is one of the most popular squares in the city, but unfortunately we did not like it at all.

A highlight for young and old is the municipal swimming pool complex Costa Martiánez which is located directly on the ocean. If it had been a little warmer, we would certainly have gone swimming here. The artificially created swimming pool holds about 27,000 cubic meters of seawater and is surrounded by four other adult pools and three children’s pools. Various bars and restaurants provide culinary catering.

On the edge of the city center, we discovered a super beautiful photo spot with the colorful stairs in the San Amaro district which totally reminded us of the colorful Selaron stairs in Rio de Janeiro. The steps are painted with the works of Agatha Christie. The occasion for this work of art is the Agatha Christie Literature Festival, which has been organized every two years since 2007 in honor of the author.

In the city center there are two very nice churches. The church of Nuestra Señora de la Peña de Francia is the main church of the city, built in the 17th century, which is located in the beautifully designed Plaza de la Iglesia. Since 2003, the church and its works of art have been listed as historical monuments. Only about 200 meters away is the Church of San Francisco which was the church of a Franciscan monastery dissolved in the 19th century. Built in 1599, it is considered the oldest building in Puerto de la Cruz and houses some valuable works of art from the 15th to the 21st century.

The fishing district of La Ranilla

We liked the district of La Ranilla the most during our city tour through the city center. The district is virtually the birthplace of the city of Puerto de la Cruz, because here once the first fishermen settled in small huts. The houses were simply built in a typical Canarian architectural style and one lived here – often in poor conditions – as an extended family under one roof. Today, the district is a real sight, because especially in the two traffic-calmed streets Calle Mequinez and in the Calle del Lomo you will find many different colorful houses.

The Playa Jardín & the Castillo San Felipe

Puerto de la Cruz has a very nice beach on the western edge of the city, which consists of black volcanic sand. The beach “Playa Jardín” was artificially created in the 1990s and equipped with palm trees, cacti and other plants. Actually, the beach even consists of three areas, which are separated from each other by rocks: The two large bays “Playa del Castillo” and “Playa Maria Jiménez” as well as the somewhat stony section “Playa Chica” in the middle. Here is also an artificially created waterfall, which we unfortunately did not look at. By the way, clean sanitary facilities are sufficiently available.

Right next to Playa Jardín is Castillo San Felipe, a 17th-century colonial-style fortification that was supposed to protect the old port from pirate attacks. In a major flood in 1826, the fortress was severely damaged. Since its restoration in the 1990s, the castle has served cultural purposes today.

The Botanical Garden

The Botanical Garden Jardín de aclimatación de La Orotava of Puerto de la Cruz, which was created in 1788, is located just outside the city center on the southeastern outskirts of the village. We were able to park our rental car directly in front of the garden free of charge in a side street. After paying the entrance fee of 3 EUR per person, we strolled through the Botanical Garden for 30 minutes. It is not insanely large, but really nicely laid out and downright overgrown. The plants here stand close to each other; sometimes you felt like in the jungle.

We were particularly impressed by the huge strangling fairy with its numerous aerial roots, which give the tree a veritable column and support pillar system. By the way, these aerial roots do not grow from the main root, but from other parts of the plant, such as the trunk or the branches. Very fascinating!

A detour to the Botanical Garden should definitely be on the agenda if you are in Puerto de la Cruz. A real quiet oasis in the middle of the city. We can absolutely recommend a visit!

The Loro Parque Zoo

One of the most famous and beautiful sights in Tenerife is the Loro Parque in the resort of Puerto de la Cruz. Originally conceived as a paradise for parrots (Spanish: Loro), the history of the park began on an area of 13,000 m² and 25 employees. Today, it has the largest and most diverse reserve for parrot species and subspecies in the world and offers a home to about 4,500 animals in 570 species on an area of 135,000 m². In addition to biodiversity, the Loro Park is also characterized by the quality of its near-natural facilities and respect for the environment. As a result, the park was awarded the Travellers’ Choice Award as the “Best Zoo in the World” in 2017, 2018 and 2019. About our visit to the zoo we have written a separate post, which can be found here.

Street Art

When we stroll through cities, we always keep our eyes open for street art because we just really like it. And lo and behold, also in Puerto de la Cruz we could discover a few murals in the district of La Ranilla. We have read that this “Puerto Street Art” has been around since 2014 and that 13 world-famous artists have immortalized themselves on the large walls here.

“The MO Ritz is all I want in a luxury property. We stayed for two nights at the property. First off, the hotel is stunning, and the MO did the remodel right. We arrived early, and the staff was so apologetic about our room not being ready. I thought it was funny because we were the ones who arrived prior to check-in, and I didn’t even request an early check-in. In any case, they insisted that we have lunch in the Palm Court. At checkout, we found out that they took care of the bill, which was totally unnecessary but much appreciated. And yes, the food was very good, The staff from front desk to maintenance was so kind and thoughtful. As for the room, it was super comfortable and the bed was actually firm and supportive. The AC worked flawlessly, and a lot of thought was put into the design and feature of the rooms. The beds, location, staff, and the fact that they actually serve real coffee (Hola Coffee Roasters) makes the MO Ritz a property I look forward to returning to. The coffee is a huge thing because it’s so obvious that they really invested in their coffee program, and did cop out by using some crap like Illy. I absolutely loved the MO Ritz and cannot recommend it highly enough.”
“Amazing stay at the MOMad. We were torn between FS or here and we are so glad we chose MO. We have no complaints whatsoever. We were in Madrid to get our stolen passports (traumatic experience in Barcelona) replaced at two different embassies. We should have been in Maldives but this hotel and lovely staff saved our vacation from going completely downhill. Nothing was too much for the team to handle. We felt very much welcomed at check-in and through-out our stay. The concierge and room service team were superb, had impressive attention to detail and were always warm. My kids always looked forward to turn down service where each evening was a pleasant surprise. We stayed in connecting deluxe rooms and they were modern, very clean and spacious. We also loved the indoor pool and the sensory rainforest shower. We had an excellent stay and would definitely stay here again if we ever come back to Madrid!”
“Opened by the Spanish king to host his prestigious guests from around the world, and created by Cesar Ritz, the man who invented the modern luxury hotel, this palace has the best location (walking distance from every museum you want to visit), immaculate amenities (gorgeous, user friendly rooms, a gorgeous spa and arguably Spain’s greatest chef), and yet it still manages to feel like a home away from home. Bravo to everyone at MO Madrid (kudos to Spain’s most well loved concierge, Borja and his team) – you’ve kept your heads high and constantly wowed us throughout what must be the most difficult period the hospitality industry has ever experienced. You’ve helped us to discover and love your city, and we can only dream of coming back soon.”

“Shopping is more convenient, the Chinese restaurant downstairs is awful, and the afternoon tea in the garden is OK. Said it is a suite, but it is not. Just a low screen separating the bed and the sofa to the suite? ! The room cleaning is done well. Breakfast is relatively monotonous”
“The hotel is not in the center of Madrid, but the location is right, next to the luxury street, free upgrade, good room, no toothpaste and toothbrushes, extra bed, parking. There are very few Chinese in the hotel, so I haven’t encountered it”
“Stayed for the second time, the location of the hotel is very good, behind is the famous street, shopping is very convenient. The hotel feels very atmospheric, the service is also very good, and the rooms are clean.”

“When one stays at a Four Seasons Hotel, one automatically readjusts expectations to a very high level. However, this hotel surpassed all my expectations. The location is perfect, in the heart of Madrid, with well-preserved historical buildings all around. The hotel building is beautiful with beautiful renovations of an old elegant bank building with all modern luxury amenities. The staff, especially the doormen, concierge and reception staff were very friendly, attentive and very efficient. The fitness room was exceptional, probably the best I have seen in Europe. The staff at the Fitness Room, especially Marta was excellent. Definitely one of the best hotels in Europe!”
“Very considerate service, every service staff passing by will greet you with a smile and greet you warmly, regardless of whether they serve you or not. The design of rooms and public facilities in the hotel is very humane and reasonable. The iPad in the room is not like some hotels. If you have any needs, you can directly communicate with the hotel and reply quickly. Have the opportunity to stay again.”
“I had one of my best experience in Four Seasons Madrid. Every staff member I encountered , from balet to check in to the cleaning stuff were delightful and eager to help. Thank you for everything. Best hotel i have ever been. Special thanks for Ramon, Alejandra , and Dani team to make my daughter s days special.”

“Can be an extra bed, we are 8 years old and there is no extra bed fee. But this time the hygiene is not good. On the day of the check-in, the bathtub in the room was all sand and stone. It was not cleaned. Waiting for the waiter to open the night bed, I asked for cleaning. In the evening, I went to the small garden to rest, and I ordered a glass of champagne. The waiter actually used a glass of water-filled glass (estimated to be washed and not dried) and poured champagne directly to me, hehe! The next day, the children will sleep more than 7 o’clock in the afternoon. As a result, the children’s bed and the quilt are inexplicably wet. Later I went to the front desk and asked them to make better bedding. Very hurt. In such a good location, the rest of the hotel is very good, it is a sanitary situation, it is unacceptable.”
“Hotel shopping is more convenient, Ingles department store walk 10 minutes, next to the big names gathered. The hotel lobby and restaurant are beautiful, the breakfast is beautiful and the environment is very good. Drinking in the garden at night is also very relaxing. The room is small, although it is a suite, the service is not bad.”
“It is completely overdue. Upgraded the suite, up and down the building, early check-in in the morning, very very high quality price ratio. Impeccable. Small hotel, warm and well-organized. Walk to the famous brand area such as Hermes, recommended!”

62 Velazquez St, Madrid, Community Of Madrid, Spain

15.8km from Madrid Barajas Airport

3.4km from Nuevos Ministerios Train Station

440m from Velázquez

520m from Serrano

“We stayed at the Bless Hotel Madrid for 5 nights with our 12 year old son. The hotel’s interior is super cool and chic, as was our room. The ”sofa” bed for our son was huge (bigger than a single bed) and really comfortable. The rooms are decorated really well and the bathroom was excellent. Everywhere in the hotel was spotlessly clean. I wouldn’t say that the hotel was particularly aimed at families but our son was made to feel very welcome and we didn’t feel awkward or that we had to keep him quiet etc. .. at any point. We used the hotel concierge who were really helpful and all of the staff remembered an used our names whenever we saw them. There was one particularly outstanding member of staff Sandra Cruz who saw that my son was wearing a Real Madrid kit. She went out of her way to introduce herself to us and say that she had seen his kit and that she wanted to let us know that they would be showing the match in the hotel that evening. On that basis we decided to stay in the hotel and watch the match. When we came down to the bar Sandra had reserved us a table by the TV so that he could see the screen! We have travelled the world as a family and we would go so far as to say this hotel delivered some of the best service we have ever had! We used the pool are in the afternoon, which was small (as you’d expect for a city hotel) but was super clean and the staff made us all feel welcome, and again knew our names. The restaurant attached to the hotel SLVJ is an absolute must fantastic food and great entertainment. The hotel is located in the Salamanca district known as ”The Golden Mile”. It’s well worth an explore – lots of restaurants and high end shops. The main Grand Via is only a short (inexpensive) taxi ride away. Overall a fabulous hotel – we will definitely be back!”
“Hotel location is very good, very close to Madrid’s fashion shopping avenue serrano, service is OK, breakfast type is not much, if you want to try the Spanish breakfast can go out of the store, it is not recommended to book the hotel’s breakfast. Overall, it seems to be very good. This time, the photo provided by Ctrip does not match the room. The hotel’s room classification is very clear and can be seen on the hotel’s own website, but Ctrip’s technical department generally refers to the room type photos. The deluxe room is obviously irresponsible. In response to customer service, their reply was that the technical department did not make a mistake. Can only suggest that Ctrip can not visit the hotel in person before sending a room picture, please carefully browse the hotel’s website, the picture of the room is carefully classified to be responsible for the performance of the consumer. .. I have lived this place before. The hotel, knowing the room type, made such a comment. I hope you can see this comment. The hotel is very good, but Ctrip’s service is a bit disappointing…”
“Found in a beautiful neighbourhood and surrounded by trendy restaurants and bars the hotel has a perfect location. Along with the good food and the outstanding service they have fantastic comfortable rooms * the bed is just amazing …. your all stay will just be so easy going and satisfying. They also have a wonderful roof top with a pool where time stand still and you can enjoy a panoramic view of the city ..just beautiful.”

“Spain has lived in the most satisfying hotel. Although the hotel is not big, it is exquisite, the service is impeccable, the spare parts are full set of L’Occitane, and extra bath supplies and hand cream are given. The favorite photos are taken on the balcony of the room. Very Spanish style, breakfast menu can be single point, rich choice, highly recommended!”
“In the center of Madrid, the door is inconspicuous, the service is excellent, the breakfast is great, it is very enjoyable, and there are small gifts. The room is large and has a balcony. All central attractions are within walking distance, the train station is less than 3 km, and the rental time is 8:00 to 22:30. There is no need to stop the hotel.”
“The hotel is located in the center of Madrid, with convenient transportation and good service attitude, it is worth having. But it is not good, not a house facing the street, the light is a bit dim.”

Wellington Hotel & Spa Madrid

Velazquez 8, Madrid, Community Of Madrid, Spain

16.4km from Madrid Barajas Airport

2.6km from Madrid Atocha Railway Station

390m from Príncipe de Vergara

430m from Velázquez

“The restaurant is very elegant, silver utensils, breakfast is rich in variety, we are travelling with parents, so the hotel gave us two rooms to the door, and there are doors outside the door to ensure privacy, near the hotel is the Lichi Park. There are subways in the surrounding area. This old hotel has no service and management. The room is quite big. The price is considered to be very high in the luxury hotel. The most satisfactory hotel in Spain is the Wellington Hotel.”
“This hotel is especially recommended! Very good location, close to Lichi Park, convenient transportation. The bathroom facilities are quite complete, the bedding is also very good, and the hotel will be accommodated in advance at 11:00. The most noteworthy is the breakfast, which is very versatile, with a variety of ham, cheese and even champagne!”
“Very good hotel, the room is small but the interior is fully functional, the bed is very comfortable, the breakfast is also very good, and some of them have a good taste, the service is normal for the Chinese. The surrounding environment is convenient, Lichi Park is next to it, good morning exercise, shopping is not far, very convenient. Madrid preferred.”

Movement within Spain – transport

Buses are the best alternative to trains. According to the schedule, it becomes clear that regular buses run much more often than trains, and the cost of tickets for them is almost half as much. Yes, and bus stations are located in almost every city. You can also save a lot by booking tickets in advance. However, please note that heavily discounted tickets are non-refundable. Flights from the international carrier Alsa are very popular among tourists. Within one city, you can easily travel by metro. It should be borne in mind that the cost of a metro ticket will depend on the number of transport zones crossed. The minimum price is one and a half euros. Since Spain is washed by the seas from three sides, the sea mode of transport is also popular here, in particular, ferries. With their help, you can get from the mainland to any island that is part of the country. Also, this is a great option for those who want to travel by car, because all ferries also have impressive luggage compartments for transporting cars.

Spanish Economy Roadmap

The Spanish economy is in fifth place among all countries of the European Union in terms of nominal GDP. On the world stage, the country’s economy occupies a stable 12th position. It should be noted that the purchasing power in the country is one of the leading in the world. The country’s economy has received special development thanks to the sectors of the medium technological level, including the automotive industry, the production of audiovisual equipment, industrial machinery and equipment, chemical and cosmetic products. At the same time, the statistics of one of the analytical companies shows that there is not a single Spanish brand among the hundred most recognizable world brands. The internal industry leaders are the wine producers Freishenet, Chupa-Chups, the energy company Repsol, the Zara brand, as well as the Sol Mella hotel chain.

buses, trams and how to use them

The island of Tenerife impresses with its diversity. It is impossible to see its relic forests, volcanic landscapes, black sand beaches, natural lava pools, towns and villages, viewing platforms, sitting in one place.

    Olga Chvanova

    Local resident

For a comfortable trip around the island, it is better to rent a car, gasoline prices in Tenerife are lower than European prices, and the rental itself is relatively inexpensive. But getting around the island by public transport is also easy.

The main form of public transport in Tenerife is buses. Even between the capital of the island, Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Santa Cruz de Tenerife) and La Laguna (La Laguna), there is a bright multi-colored tram. I live on the island and I will tell you how to use public transport here.

The bus company in Tenerife is TITSA. Their green buses with comfortable seats, air conditioning and USB sockets reach even the farthest corners of the island. There are city and intercity flights, but they differ only in the size of the bus and the number of seats.

What you need to know about buses in Tenerife:

      • Buses in Tenerife are called guagua, and bus stations are called estancion de guaguas.
      • Most bus routes pass through the main bus stations: in the north – Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Puerto de la Cruz, in the south – Costa Adeje.
      • Boarding the bus – only through the front doors. The first rows are reserved for the disabled, it is not worth occupying them.
      • The card must be applied to the validator when boarding and disembarking: the payment amount and the balance on the card will be displayed on the screen.
      • Children under 4 years of age travel free on the bus, without a separate seat.
      • Luggage and bicycles are transported free of charge in the luggage compartment of the bus (the driver opens on demand or you can open it yourself).
      • The flight number is displayed on the bus windshield board.
      • Raise your hand at small stops or the bus will pass you by.
      • Follow the stops on the monitor in the cabin. If you need to get off at the next stop, inform the driver: press the STOP button in the passenger compartment.

To build a route, it is enough to know the correct name of the start and end destinations: Google Maps knows all the routes on the island, even the official TITSA website redirects to Google.

Map of the main routes of the island

Knowing the route number, you can check its schedule on the official website in the “YOUR BUSES” section in the “Buses and timetable” section.

Be sure to pay attention to the day of the week: the bus schedule on weekends is different.

Schedule – on the website of the transport company

Be careful, follow the names of the stops on the monitor: the driver does not stop at the stop if there are no people on it. As soon as Próxima parada (next stop) with the desired name appears on the screen, press the red “STOP” button on the handrail: then the driver will stop at the next stop.

TITSA buses at the bus station All TITSA buses are greenBus interior Red “STOP” button on the handrailUSB socket in the bus

On average, intracity travel will cost 1.15 €, the cost of travel between cities can vary from 2 to 10 €. Prices to the same city by different routes may differ – for example, you can get from Icod to Puerto for 2 € or 4 €.

You can pay for the bus fare with a Ten+ card or a mobile app. Ten+ cards are sold at airport ticket machines, at sales points at TITSA bus stations and at TITSA kiosks. The full list of points of sale is listed on the website.

Kiosks for selling and replenishing Ten+ cards

For non-residents, there are three options for the Ten+ card: unlimited travel cards for 1 or 7 days and rechargeable cards.

Unlimited one-day (tarjeta turística 1 día) and weekly (tarjeta turística 7 días) cards entitle you to unlimited travel on buses and trams throughout the island. Each card is valid for one passenger only.

      • One-day card is valid for 24 hours, weekly card is valid for 7 days from the date of first use.
      • The card costs 2 €. Upon purchase, you need to top up a one-day card with 10 €, a weekly card with 50 €.

      ten+ cards

Refillable Ten+ card also costs 2 € and is topped up from 5 to 100 €. The balance on the card is valid for one year.

      • Valid for bus and tram travel around the island.
      • The cost of the trip depends on the distance and is deducted from the balance.
      • The card can be used by several passengers at the same time.

To pay for the fare, the card must be attached to the validator near the driver when entering and exiting the bus. If you forget to attach the card at the exit, the fare to the final stop will be deducted from the card.

Card Ten+ wallet can pay for the travel of several people: for this, tell the driver at the entrance the number of travelers and the final destination. In this case, the card does not need to be validated upon exit.

      Bus validator

You can also use the mobile app MOBILE APP “ten+Móvil” . In the application, you can activate a one-day or weekly card. In this case, you will not have to pay 2 € for the card itself.

To register the passage through the application, in the “Titulos” (Tickets) tab, select the paid ticket. There is a qr-code inside the bus. Press the “Viajar” (Travel) button in the application and point the mobile camera at the qr code in the cabin: the camera reads the code and the trip is registered in the application.

Paying for travel with the appMobile app “ten+Móvil”

The price of a ticket, even between the same stops, can be very different depending on the line. On some routes it reaches up to 10 €. For example, an intracity fare to Santa Cruz costs an average of €1.15, but on some routes the minimum fare is €0.85. Therefore, before buying a card, it makes sense to draw up an approximate route of movement and calculate the cost. With active movement, buying a weekly tourist card can be the best choice.

You can calculate the fare on the TITSA website by selecting “YOUR BUSES” – “Current fares” in the menu. Specify the bus line in the “Select one bus” line and select the start and end stops of the route. The screen will display prices for different types of tickets.

Cost calculation on the TITSA website

The tram system is operated by Metropolitano de Tenerife (MTSA). If you hear about the subway on the island, then we are talking about a tram. The official website of the company is called metrotenerife.

      Trams in Tenerife

      Trams run on two lines:

      • Line 1 has 21 stops and connects the island’s capital, Santa Cruz de Tenerife, with La Laguna, the student and cultural center of the island. The route takes about 40 minutes.
      • Line 2 connects La Cuesta and Tíncer and has 6 stops.

      Map of tram lines

Trams operate from 06:00 to 24:00 every day. Only the time interval between routes changes: on weekdays – from 5 to 10 minutes, on weekends – from 10 to 30 minutes.

As with buses, you can pay by card or app. The fare is from 0.85 to 1.35 €.

Basic rules for using the tram:

      • Tram doors do not open automatically. You need to wait for the tram to stop at the stop and press the button to open the door.
      • The ticket is registered immediately upon entering the tram at any of the validators located next to the doors. In the case of using the ten + mobile application, you need to validate your digital ticket by reading the QR code inside the tram, as indicated in the application. The fine for ticketless travel is 400 euros. When checking, all validators are blocked, and it will not be possible to register the passage.
      • Children under 5 travel free of charge.
      • The tram stops at all stops, but the doors do not open automatically. To open the doors, press the door open button.

Puerto de la Cruz is best known as the location of the best zoo in Europe – Loro Park. Most tourists from all over the island come here to the zoo. Although the town itself is beautiful, we spent 3 nights here. This is the best base city to visit the surrounding attractions.

It is possible to swim on the beaches in Puerto de la Cruz, but it is difficult and dangerous because the waves are too big. Therefore, in the very center of the city, huge open-air swimming pools Lago Martianez were built.

We tried to swim in open water, on Playa Martianez beach – it’s dangerous. The city authorities have been planning to equip it for a long time and make a protective breakwater, but so far “there is no money.” Or maybe the whole point is that then no one will go to paid pools.

Several beaches (Playa Maria Jiménez, Playa Jardín and Playa del Castillo) are located near Loro Park. With waves here the situation is even worse, but the sandy entrance.

Near these beaches there is an interesting place with thousands of pyramids and a small castle.

In the heart of the city, you can swim at Playa San Telmo. There are no waves here, although it’s hard to call it a beach either 🙂

Be sure to visit the observation deck Panorama El mirador. You can walk there or take a taxi for 3-4 euros. This is a great place to watch the sunset. There is a cafe.

There are no problems with parking in the city at the moment, as there is a huge free Parking El Muelle along the sea. Of course, it is clear that this is a very prestigious place and in the future there will be some beautiful park here.

We stayed at the Hotel Marquesa (booking.com), we chose it because of its inexpensive price and good location. From the parking lot you need to walk, about 300 meters.

In the morning, this place offers the best view of the Teide volcano. Later it is covered in clouds.

15 Things To Do in Costa Teguise

      Playa de las Cucharas

Costa Teguise was purposely built as a tourist resort under the guidance of Cesar Manrique, the famous artist and architect who had a major influence in Lanzarote’s development as a tourist destination.

Costa Teguise is one of the 3 big resorts in Lanzarote, along with Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca.

What You Should Know About Costa Teguise

Like the rest of Lanzarote, Costa Teguise enjoys mild winters with temperatures still reaching 20 Celsius during the daytime, but as one of the 3 big resorts on the island along with Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca, Costa Teguise is the least sheltered, so it might be windier compared to the other two, which are situated more down south.

Costa Teguise – A Great Place for Surf Lovers and Families

Costa Teguise is a great place to stay in Lanzarote if you’re into surfing, kite surfing or any other water sports and you’ll also find lots of surfing schools in the resort if you want to take some lessons or rent the equipment.

We also consider Costa Teguise to be a family-friendly resort, especially during the summer months, when there’s so much to do and see if you bring the kids for a holiday. As you’ll see on our list below, you have an aquarium, a water park and also short trips to do, that will keep you occupied, without having to spend a lot of time in the car.

What to do in Costa Teguise & Best places to visit

Learn more about the places you can visit while on holiday in this part of Lanzarote; see the best places to visit in Costa Teguise and discover its most interesting attractions.

      1. Enjoy the beaches in Costa Teguise

Las Cucharas Beach is one of the main attractions in Costa Teguise

There are 5 beaches in total in Costa Teguise, but Playa Bastian and Playa de las Cucharas are the most popular. Bastian beach is ideal for families traveling with children and people who just want to relax and get a tan, while Cucharas beach is preferred by surfers and people who love water sports.

      2. Lanzarote Aquarium

Costa Teguise is the home to the only Aquarium in Lanzarote.

It’s a nice place to visit, especially if you’re on holiday with children. Although not as spectacular compared to larger aquariums in the world, you can still spend around 1 to 2 hours walking around and looking at the tanks.

      • Open every day from 10:00 to 18:00h
      • Tickets: Adults 14 €  / Children 9 € / Babies under 3 – Free

      3. Aquapark Costa Teguise

The water park in Costa Teguise – Source: Aquapark Lanzarote website

Besides the Aquarium, Costa Teguise is also the home of the largest water park in Lanzarote.

As you can see, Costa Teguise is a great resort for a family holiday, as the kids will have plenty of activities and you don’t even have to travel out of the resort if you don’t want to.

      • Tickets: Adults 22.5 €  / Children 16 €

      4. Museum of Piracy – Museo de la Pirateria

Museum of Piracy / Castillo of Santa Barbara

Situated in the Fortress of Santa Barbara, the museum has some amazing views and it’s yet again a wonderful place to visit with the kids.

The Canary Islands were often under attack by pirates on their route to and from the Americas, so Santa Barbara Fortress was used as a place from where to spot pirate ships from a distance. The fortress also provided shelter for the population in case of an attack.

      • Open every day from 10:00 to 16:00h
      • Tickets: 3 €

      5. Cesar Manrique Foundation

      Source: César Manrique Foundation website

Located only a few minutes away from Costa Teguise, the Cesar Manrique Foundation is one of the places that you really must visit if you’re staying in Costa Teguise.

The foundation is located in what was Cesar Manrique’s home in Lanzarote for 20 years, a place designed by the artist himself and probably the best place to see his vision and talent.

      • Open every day (including holidays) from 10:00 AM to 6:00 PM
      • Tickets: Adults: €8 / Children 12 or under: €1

      6. Enjoy the atmosphere in Pueblo Marinero

Pueblo Marinero is a charming town square, with plenty of bars and restaurants and a great place to spend the evening, having some drinks and watching people go by.

On Friday evenings there’s also a small market in Pueblo Marinero, so take advantage to do some shopping, while enjoying the nice vibe.

      7. Spend Sunday morning at Teguise Market

      Teguise Market on Sundays

Only a short trip away by bus or by car, Teguise market should be on your list at least once while visiting Lanzarote. It’s the largest market on the island and although you’ll see plenty of stalls selling fake goods, there are also plenty of talented people selling handmade goods and also cheap souvenirs.

      8. Golf in Costa Teguise

Situated in a unique location, only 5 minutes away from most hotels in the resort, Costa Teguise Golf Club has a superb view of the Atlantic Ocean. It is an 18 holes course, with over 3000 palm trees, which contribute to the luxurious feeling of the entire place.

      9. Rent a bike to explore the surrounding areas

Since Lanzarote is mostly flat, renting a bike is always a good idea if you want to explore the island without renting a car.

You can easily bike from Costa Teguise to Teguise and visit the former capital of Lanzarote on a weekday when it’s not as busy and crowded as it is during the Sunday market.

      10. Explore the north of Lanzarote

Lanzarote is not a big island and it’s easy to explore if you hire a car. So our suggestion for one of the best things to do in Costa Teguise is to hire a car and drive around the island on your own.

From Costa Teguise, it’s very easy to make short trips and visit some amazing places, especially if you to see more of the influence that Cesar Manrique has had on the island. Read more about driving in Lanzarote if you want a few ideas about driving routes around the island.

      11. Visit Jameos del Agua

      Jameos del Agua

Jameos del Agua is a unique place in Lanzarote, where you can understand more about the vision that Cesar Manrique had in terms of bringing together nature and mankind.

Besides visiting during the daytime, you can also make an evening out of it and buy a ticket for a concert and dinner, in one of the most spectacular concert halls you’ll get to see.

      12. Cueva de los Verdes

After you visit Jameos del Agua, you can continue your adventure with a visit to the Green Cave, where you’ll get to enter a volcanic tube and learn more about the volcanic history of Lanzarote.

This is a guided tour that takes around one hour and it is better to visit in the afternoons after the tour buses are gone (in case you come here on your own, with a hire car).

      13. Mirador del Rio

The view from Mirador del Rio

Depending on how early you start your day, you can also go to Mirador del Rio on the same day you visit Cueva de los Verdes and Jameos del Agua. From here you’ll get a beautiful view over the island of La Graciosa, so make sure you choose a clear day, so you can enjoy the magnificent view.

      14. Playa de Famara

      Playa de Famara

If you’re into surfing, Playa de Famara is probably on your list of places to visit in Lanzarote.

Playa de Famara is easy to reach from Costa Teguise and you can also come here to enjoy the views, admire the sunset and enjoy a tasty meal with fresh fish and seafood.

      15. Cactus Garden – Jardin de Cactus

Cactus Garden in Lanzarote – Photo by Darwin Vegher on Unsplash

There’s not much vegetation to see in Lanzarote, so you’ll probably enjoy a visit to the Cactus Garden, where you’ll get to stroll around a beautiful garden with hundreds of types of cacti and also beautiful views of the ocean.

10 Best Things to Do in Costa Teguise, Lanzarote

Costa Teguise is one of the most important tourist destinations in Lanzarote, so I highly recommend visiting. This place is known for its traditional Canarian lifestyle, variety of leisure activities, and beautiful beaches.

We decided to visit during our trip, and we didn’t regret it. The town of Costa Teguise is full of interesting attractions, from lovely golf courses and waterparks to cultural and historical sites. There are also lively restaurants, places to shop, and luxury hotels, so it has everything you need.

There are plenty of things to do in Costa Teguise, which makes it one of the best places in Lanzarote. To help you plan your trip, here is a guide with all the information you need to organize the perfect vacation.

      1. Pueblo Marinero, a pretty place to visit in Costa Teguise

The Pueblo Marinero is a commercial space where you can take a walk outdoors and experience the Canarian ambiance. This place was designed by famed Lanzarote artist César Manrique, who built the Pueblo Marinero as a tribute to traditional Canarian architecture. As such, here you’ll find typical elements like white-washed houses and green wooden balconies.

      1. Pueblo Marinero, a pretty place to visit in Costa Teguise

In addition, the Pueblo Marinero has a lively atmosphere, both day and night, making it one of the best places to visit in Costa Teguise. If you want shopping, bar-hopping, or dining, you’ll find it here.

I also recommend visiting Costa Teguise’s markets in the Plaza del Pueblo Marinero. The Artisan Market is held every Wednesday and Friday from 6 pm to 10 pm, while the Agricultural Market takes place on Tuesdays from 9 am to 2 pm. Browsing the stalls of native sweets, Canarian wines, and local products is one of the top things to do in Costa Teguise, so don’t miss it.

      2. Playa de las Cucharas, one of the most popular places to visit in Costa Teguise

Playa de las Cucharas is one of the most beautiful beaches in Costa Teguise and the perfect spot for a relaxing day by the sea. The beach’s fine golden sand and calm waters attract tourists and locals alike, as well as families with children.

      2. Playa de las Cucharas, one of the most popular places to visit in Costa Teguise

Along with sunbathing and swimming, Playa de las Cucharas is an awesome place to visit in Costa Teguise for water sports. Surfing and windsurfing are especially popular here, and if you’re visiting in June, you can see the PWA World Windsurfing Tour, an event you won’t find anywhere else.

      3. Walk along the waterfront promenade, a nice thing to do in Costa Teguise

The waterfront promenade (Paseo Marítimo) is a long avenue next to the Atlantic Ocean, and one of the most vibrant spots in Costa Teguise. On any given day, you’ll find pedestrians and bicyclists traveling along the promenade while admiring the views.

      3. Walk along the waterfront promenade, a nice thing to do in Costa Teguise

The promenade spans just over three miles and is surrounded by palm trees. On one side, you’ll see Costa Teguise‘s coastline with white-sand beaches and small coves, while on the other side, you can visit all kinds of shops and outdoor restaurants. So, no matter who you’re traveling with, walking along the Paseo Marítimo is one of the best things to do in Costa Teguise.

      4. Climb the Tahíche Volcano, another fun thing to do in Costa Teguise, Lanzarote

The island of Lanzarote is known for its volcanic landscapes, while you’re in Costa Teguise, I recommend hiking up the Tahíche Volcano, the most popular volcanic peak in the area.

The Tahíche Volcano has an altitude of less than 1,000 feet, so its walking paths are accessible to most visitors. From its highest point, you’ll be able to see some of Costa Teguise’s main attractions, like the Pueblo Marinero, the windmills, and the port, as well as the Atlantic Ocean.

      4. Climb the Tahíche Volcano, another fun thing to do in Costa Teguise, Lanzarote

Along with the dreamy views, you’ll see the reddish slopes of the volcano’s walking paths, which are surrounded by black and red lava. These warm tones stand out against the island’s green golf courses and white sands.

Ascending the Tahíche Volcano is an incredible thing to do in Costa Teguise, and you’ll also be close to other volcanic mountains like Tinaguache, Corona, or Téjida.

      5. Bastián Beach, the best place to visit in Costa Teguise with family

Another lovely place in Costa Teguise, Lanzarote that I recommend is Bastián Beach. This small beach is only about 1,000 feet long, but it’s one of the most beautiful natural beaches in the area. That said, it’s a good idea to wear comfortable shoes since the sand can be a bit rocky.

      5. Bastián Beach, the best place to visit in Costa Teguise with family

Bastián Beach has all the facilities you need to enjoy a wonderful day by the sea, including lounge chairs and umbrella rentals. This is a great place to visit in Costa Teguise with family, and there is even a garden area with barbecue equipment so you can have a picnic or get-together.

Overall, this beach is a quiet place where you can cool off on a hot day, so it’s worth visiting.

      6. Jablillo Beach, another gorgeous place in Costa Teguise, Lanzarote

With its calm waters and white sand, the cove of Jablillo Beach is another beautiful place to go in the town of Costa Teguise. This area is so serene that it more closely resembles a swimming pool than a beach.

      6. Jablillo Beach, another gorgeous place in Costa Teguise, Lanzarote

Jablillo Beach is only 500 feet long, but its turquoise waters and volcanic landscape of cooled lava create quite an impressive environment. Here, you can find beach chair rentals, showers, and lifeguards, making this a nice place to visit with family or kids. Moreover, there are accessible ramps and walkways that allow everyone to enjoy the sand and water.

Not only is this an incredible beach, but it’s surrounded by shops, restaurants, and a gorgeous seabed, making it one of the top beaches in Lanzarote. To discover the true beauty and marine biodiversity of the seabed, I recommend this guided snorkeling tour. It’s an unforgettable thing to do in Costa Teguise!

      7. Visit the gardens at the Meliá Salinas Hotel

Costa Teguise’s first hotel was the Meliá Salinas Hotel, an Artistic and Cultural Heritage Site that’s famous for its spectacular gardens designed by Lanzarote artist César Manrique.

      7. Visit the gardens at the Meliá Salinas Hotel

Centrally located in the town of Costa Teguise, this oasis by the sea is the ideal representation of Lanzarote’s wild and tropical environment. Amidst the different shades of green, you’ll find incredible murals, a large lagoon, and several waterfalls.

Best of all, you don’t need to stay at the hotel to see the resort’s gardens. As one of the most unique places to visit in Costa Teguise, there is no excuse not to see it!

      8. Surf at Playa de los Charcos, another thing to do in Costa Teguise

If you’re looking for a less-crowded beach, check out Playa de los Charcos. This urban beach is known for its white sands and strong winds, making it the ideal beach for windsurfers in the area.

      8. Surf at Playa de los Charcos, another thing to do in Costa Teguise

That said, it’s also protected by breakwaters, so it’s a nice place to visit in Costa Teguise to spend a pleasant day in the sun. The waterfront promenade also passes through Playa de los Charcos, so you can enjoy lovely views and a calming walk along the sea.

      9. Go diving, a unique thing to do in Costa Teguise, Lanzarote

As I said, Costa Teguise’s marine biodiversity is amazing, so I recommend taking advantage of your trip here to discover it for yourself. The town of Costa Teguise has several diving schools and courses, so it’s not uncommon to see tourists exploring life under the sea.

      9. Go diving, a unique thing to do in Costa Teguise, Lanzarote

If you’d like to take the plunge into the waters of Lanzarote, I suggest taking this tour, which includes a diving tutorial and a 40-minute guided dive. For me, it’s one of the best things to do in Costa Teguise.

If diving isn’t your thing, don’t worry. A great alternative is this underwater sea trek tour, which allows you to walk underwater. This innovative technology allows you to wear a wetsuit and a panoramic helmet so you can walk along the seabed and see different species of fish and marine creatures.

      10. Go to AQUAPARK Costa Teguise, something to do in Costa Teguise with kids

Finally, if you’re looking for more things to do in Costa Teguise with kids, spend a day at the AQUAPARK Costa Teguise. This local waterpark is the largest on the island and features attractions and activities for all ages.

      10. Go to AQUAPARK Costa Teguise, something to do in Costa Teguise with kids

Here, you’ll find pools and waterslides of varying thrill levels. There are even on-land activities like paintball, a VR room, and go-karts, so if you’re like to visit this place in Costa Teguise, get your ticket in advance.

Also, in the same complex, you can visit the Lanzarote Aquarium, which is home to hundreds of marine species. Learn about the fish and fauna that inhabit the island and its surroundings, and see the “garbage aquarium,” a special section of the aquarium that promotes environmental awareness by highlighting the most polluted coastal areas of Lanzarote.

      Other tours from Costa Teguise

Although there are many worthwhile excursions in Lanzarote, my absolute favorite is this full-day tour. It’s the best use of your time, especially if you’re only visiting for a short while. You’ll visit the most exciting places on the island, like Timanfaya National Park, the Cueva de los Verdes, and the Jameos del Agua, among others.

      Other tours from Costa Teguise

Another good option if you’re visiting Costa Teguise is this walking tour through the Natural Park of the Volcanoes. During the 3-hour tour, you’ll see calderas, craters, and volcanic landscapes shaped by lava.

Excursions from Costa Teguise to other Canary Islands

Staying in the town of Costa Teguise will allow you to easily visit other Canary Islands, like Fuerteventura and La Graciosa. If you have the time, I highly recommend doing so since there are lots of cool things to do in Fuerteventura. The best way to explore this island is with this one-day tour, which will take you to the Dunes of Corralejo, Cofete Beach, and other attractions.

As for La Graciosa, I consider it to be one of the most beautiful Canary Islands. The best way to explore this place is with this excursion, which includes bus transportation to the port of Órzola, ferry service, and a sailboat ride with an open bar. The tour allows you to see the best places in La Graciosa, such as La Francesa Beach.

      Best hotels in Costa Teguise

As I mentioned in our guide on where to stay in Lanzarote, Costa Teguise is a very comfortable option thanks to its wide range of hotels. Whether you’re looking for all-inclusive accommodation, an adults-only resort, or a kid-friendly hotel, here are my recommendations.

First, the Barceló Teguise Beach is an adults-only hotel that’s just 500 feet from the beautiful Playa de las Cucharas. Here, you’ll find all kinds of restaurants and bars that serve amazing cocktails. For some relaxation, visit the on-site wellness center, where you can indulge in a beauty or wellness treatment.

      Best hotels in Costa Teguise

Another nice option is the Barceló Lanzarote Active Resort, one of the best all-inclusive hotels in Lanzarote. This hotel is catered to those who want to participate in outdoor activities. The resort includes facilities for cycling and swimming, as well as surfing, windsurfing, and kitesurfing equipment. There are different all-inclusive packages for your budget and preferences, which include a variety of suites and restaurant vouchers.

Finally, the Oasis Lanz Beach Mate is just 650 feet from the Pueblo Marinero, so it’s an excellent place to stay in Costa Teguise, Lanzarote. It’s also an ideal place for families since its close to several attractions and has a wide range of on-site dining options. Take a walk to Jablillo Beach or enjoy one of the outdoor pools surrounded by palm trees.

      HOTELS IN COSTA TEGUISE

      Best Restaurants in Costa Teguise

Of course, one of my favorite parts of traveling is discovering the local cuisine. If you’re looking for some dining options, these are the best restaurants in Costa Teguise, Lanzarote.

First, Taberna el Bocadito is a casual restaurant that serves typical Canarian food, particularly tapas and grilled meats. Without a doubt, it’s the best place to enjoy homemade food in a relaxed atmosphere in the center of town.

Another option is the Restaurante Villa Toledo, where you can try Spanish fish and seafood dishes. It’s a simple yet elegant restaurant just a few feet from Bastián Beach, so it has spectacular views of the sea.

Last but not least, La Bohemia is a centrally located Costa Teguise restaurant that offers all kinds of international dishes. I recommend enjoying a meal on its cozy outdoor terrace.

How to get to Costa Teguise

There are several ways to get to the town of Costa Teguise from Lanzarote Airport. The most common option is to rent a car, although you can also book a private transfer to your hotel if you prefer not to drive.

      RENTAL CARS IN LANZAROTE

For those who plan on taking public transportation, you can take Bus Line 22 from Terminals 1 or 2, which will take you to the town of Arrecife. From there, take Bus Line 1 to Costa Teguise. The buses run every 20 minutes Monday-Friday and every hour on the weekends. Bus tickets cost about € 3, so it’s a cheap way to get around.

      Map of Costa Teguise, Lanzarote

My last bit of advice is to check out a map of Lanzarote so you can better organize your trip to Costa Teguise. I also recommend taking a look at this map of Costa Teguise, Lanzarote, which includes all the attractions, hotels, and restaurants I mentioned.

With that, you have everything you need to plan your trip to Teguise, Lanzarote! If you have any other questions, or you’d like to share your experience in Costa Teguise, leave me a comment below. And, of course, have a wonderful vacation!

      Lanzarote waterparks Costa Teguise

There are two waterparks in Lanzarote that both offer a pickup service from Costa Teguise when you book with us

      Aquapark Costa Teguise

If you are staying in Costa Teguise you have the privilege of having the Aquapark Lanzarote waterpark close by. The biggest of the parks is Aquapark Costa Teguise, this park is also the oldest but it does have more slides to enjoy and better for slightly older kids. When you book official Aquapark Lanzarote tickets with us you can skip the line and save time and hassle. As you are in Costa Teguise you make your own way to the park as it’s very close to the resort. Just book with us and we will arrange the skip the line tickets for you and send you official Aquapark Lanzarote tickets. Plus as a bonus, you will even get a free snack at the snack bar on us.

Aqua Lava waterpark from Costa Teguise

The other park is based in Playa Blanca but has a bus pick-up and is the only one of the Lanzarote waterparks that are open all year round. You can get your Aqualava Lanzarote waterpark tickets with a pick-up, and because you have already got your tickets there no stress waiting and sorting out payments, numbers, tickets, and all that so you can enjoy a full day at the Aqua Lava waterpark stress-free.

Aqua Lava waterpark is the newest of the parks and while it isn’t as big it does have the only wave pool on the island and is open all year round.

      Costa Teguise Boat trips

There is no harbour in Costa Teguise unlike other resorts but all the Lanzarote boat trip excursions pick you up and take you to either Puerto Del Carmen, Puerto Calero, or Plata Blanca for some amazing experiences. The nearest Boat trip in Costa Teguise is actually to the island of La Graciosa and lucky for you this is where the newest Lanzarote Catamaran will take you on what we think is the best Catamaran cruise in Lanzarote I love Graciosa Catamaran.

If you would like to experience the newest arrival to Lanzarote with the biggest and best Lanzarote catamaran that takes you to a hidden gem called La Graciosa then the I Love Graciosa Catamaran is a must. With pick-ups from Costa Teguise to Orzola about 30 minutes away and a day out exploring and cruising the coast of La Graciosa, this Lanzarote catamaran cruise is a must.

Lanzarote catamaran cruise from Costa Teguise

An amazing catamaran is docked in Puerto Del Carmen and owned and operated by the island’s leader in Lanzarote boat trips, The Romero family. The I Love Papagayo Lanzarote catamaran is one of the best catamaran cruises in Lanzarote that takes you down to the picturesque bay of Papagayo. Onboard this huge Lanzarote catamaran you will be served a delicious hot lunch, all of your drinks, and enjoy the many water activities in Papagayo when you drop anchor. The I Love Papagayo Catamaran is one of the biggest and newest on the island second only to their catamaran in La Graciosa that takes you to the island and is also a great excursion that departs from Costa Teguise.

Another great Catamaran cruise from Costa Teguise is Catlanza that is based in Puerto Calero. They will pick you up in Costa Teguise and take you on their luxury Lanzarote catamaran again to Papagayo where you can enjoy lunch and drinks while soaking up the sun. The Catlanza Catamaran has a family day and also is the only Lanzarote catamaran cruise that has a Catlanza adults-only option too.

      Lanzarote to Fuerteventura Ferry Service

The ferry from Lanzarote to Fuerteventura departs from Playa Blanca, this makes it difficult to get to if you haven’t got a hire car to get to Playa Blanca or you don’t fancy taking the local bus. Therefore the Lanzarote to Fuerteventura ferry with bus pick up is an ideal solution for you. This Lanzarote excursion picks up from Costa Teguise, takes you to Playa Blanca where you will be met by the crew of the Lanzarote ferry and taken over to spend a day exploring another island. When you arrive back in Lanzarote in the afternoon the bus will be waiting to take you back to Costa Teguise making this the best way to get the Lanzarote Fuerteventura ferry from Costa Teguise.

If you fancy seeing more of Fuerteventura with a guide and to explore the Natural Park and the giant sand dunes where films like wonder woman and Star Wars have filmed then the Lanzarote Fuerteventura sand dunes excursion is an ideal option for you giving you a full day with a guided tour of Fuerteventura

Lanzarote boat trips with pick up from Costa Teguise

There are many Lanzarote boat trips on the island so just because they are not departing from Costa Teguise that doesn’t mean you can’t do them as they pick up from all resorts which are great.

Rancho Texas Lanzarote Park from Costa Teguise

Rancho Texas is based in Puerto Del Carmen but has a free bus service when you book through us that runs daily and picks up from all around Costa Teguise. This is one of the best attractions in Lanzarote to visit and is super simple to get to. All you need to do is book your Rancho Texas Park Ticket with us and we will arrange for the free bus to pick you up at or close to your accommodation so you can enjoy a full day at the Rancho Texas park seeing the animals, the shows and much more. They also have dolphins that are incredible and there is also an option to interact with the dolphins at Rancho Texas. This experience needs to be booked in advance and will include entrance to the park and a free bus pick-up if you require one.

Lanzarote Aquarium based in Costa Teguise

In Costa Teguise you have the island’s only Aquarium, The Lanzarote Aquarium is a great place to visit to spend a few hours exploring the underwater world and seeing the many fish and species they have including sharks. Go around 12:30pm and you will actually get to see them feeding the sharks at the Lanzarote Aquarium. Should you decide you are feeling brave you can even book a very unique experience and swim with sharks in Lanzarote here at the Costa Teguise Aquarium.

Timanfaya National Park Tours from Costa Teguise

All Lanzarote tours pick up from Costa Teguise and give you the chance to see the famous Timanfaya National Park in all of its glory with a number of Tours from Costa Teguise to suit all. Full-day, half-day, and short Lanzarote tours we have them all from Costa Teguise.

Of course, if you have hired a car you can drive there and pay to get in but please be warned the wait is painful. There will be a huge line of cars waiting to get in and all the buses full of people will just drive on past and go straight through. Plus you cannot drive your hire car around Timanfaya you have to get on one of the official buses anyway so we highly suggest and recommend you take one of the Lanzarote Timanfaya National Park tours.

Short South Tour of Lanzarote from Costa Teguise

The fastest and easiest way to see the best of Timanfaya and the South of Lanzarote is with the short south tour. Ideal if you want to do the best bits and get back to the hotel or accommodation for lunch and also great if you have kids with you.

You will get to drive around the Luna route where NASA tests their space buggies and you will also see how they cook chicken over the heat of the live volcano. From there you will get to take part in the optional camel ride before heading to El Golfo the emerald lake. This half-day tour is ideal and will have you back in Costa Teguise by 14:30. Book the Lanzarote volcano short south tour with us and save money today.

Full day tour of the Lanzarote South

If you fancy seeing more of the south of Lanzarote from Costa Teguise then the Lanzarote volcano south tour is a full day so you can really get the most out of your Lanzarote tour of the South. It will see all of the short south taking in Timanfaya National Park, the Lanzarote camel ride, and El Golfo. You will also get to see the salt pans, Los Hevideros, and stop in a quaint little village for lunch before heading for a tour around La Geria the Lanzarote wine regions. This is a great day out in Lanzarote touring the south of the island from Costa Teguise.

      The Lanzarote Grand Tour

If you want to see the whole island in just one day then the Timanfaya Lanzarote Grand Tour will give you the best of both worlds. With a full tour of the south including Timanfaya and the Lanzarote camels, the wine regions, and of course El Golfo. 8 Best Things To Do In Costa Teguise, Lanzarote, Spain

      Anne

      Updated

Costa Teguise is a popular and attractive tourist resort on the eastern side of the island of Lanzarote in Spain’s Canary Islands. The coast has endless opportunities for fun and relaxation, with its beautiful beaches, fascinating sites and museums to visit, as well as golf and water sports. The island’s volcanic landscape makes for a different type of scenery, while the beaches take your breath away. Dine at the many restaurants, serving delicious traditional cuisine and international dishes, or enjoy a cold glass or two at one of the many bars along the coast.

The following are some of the must-see and do items on the Costa Teguise.

The architecture and furniture design is functional and attractive and visitors can explore most of the house, as well as the outdoor swimming pool and entertainment area, the garden and the artist’s studio.

      Costa Teguise Tourist Information

Sandy beaches, good quality restaurants and accommodation and easy access to many of the island’s major tourist attractions make Costa Teguise a great base for your holiday in Lanzarote.

      Location

Situated on the south eastern coast to the north of Arrecife, Costa Teguise is Lanzarote’s third largest tourist resort.

It is only a 15 minute drive from Arrecife Airport and is a convenient place from which to explore the island’s main tourist and cultural attractions, such as the César Manrique Foundation, as well as atmospheric villages such as Arrieta and Haria.

The island’s historic capital of Teguise is also just a 10 to 15 minute drive away and its quiet cobbled streets and historic buildings are well worth exploring, unless of course you go on a Sunday, when the large weekly market is in full swing.

The cosmopolitan island capital of Arrecife is also in close proximity and whilst it doesn’t boast the historic buildings of Teguise it´s still a fascinating place to explore and is home to two castles, Lanzarote´s main shopping street Calle Real and a great weekly market which takes place every Saturday morning in and around the Church of San Gines.

      History and Development

Costa Teguise is a purpose built resort, which started to take shape in the 1970s, under the aegis of César Manrique. It was initially developed as an up market alternative to Puerto del Carmen and became very popular with German and Scandinavian tourists during the 1980´s.  Anchored by the 5 star Hotel Gran Melia Salinas and the Pueblo Marinero.

Some visitors say that the resort lacks an organic, central heart – and it´s true that it doesnt boast anything as atmospheric as say the Old Town Harbour area in Puerto del Carmen.   However there´s still plenty of life in and around Playa Cucharas, the main beach and in the Playa Bastian area, which is home to most of the best restaurants in the resort.

One of the best ways to explore Costa Teguise is to take a stroll along the seafront promenade, which will take you past all of the five main beaches and towards the Las Maretas Palace, originally built for King Hussein of Jordan and now used by visiting dignitaries such as the King of Spain and former Prime Minister Zapatero, who is a regular visitor to the island.

      Costa Teguise Weather

Costa Teguise is the least sheltered of Lanzarote´s main resorts as well as the most northerly.  As a result, during the winter months, it can be cooler, cloudier and windier here than in resort rivals to the south.  Which in part explains why it has fallen behind Puerto del Carmen and Playa Blanca to become Lanzarote´s number 3 resort.

However these factors become far less salient from around March onwards, although it still remains more exposed to the winds.   During the summer months this breeze can be a real god send and it is important to note that there are also plenty of very still and calm days all year round.

Although many of the activities revolve around the beach, with windsurfing in particular being very well catered for (as a result of the wind here), there is plenty more to do in and around Costa Teguise than just soak up the sun.

      Costa Teguise Beaches

There are five beaches in Costa Teguise, all comprised of golden sand.  The main ones, such as Playa Cucharas and Playa Bastian offer good facilities, such as WC´s, sun loungers and umbrellas.  Whilst others such as Playa Ancla are a little more all natural.  Read our guide to beaches in Costa Teguise to find out more.

      Local Tourist Attractions

Costa Teguise is well situated to explore the many tourist attractions in the North of Lanzarote, such as the Cueva de los Verdes, Jameos del Agua and the Jardin de Cactus.  All of which were created by local artist César Manrique, whose former home and studio is also just a ten minute drive away in Tahiche.   So if you are planning to combine sunbathing with sightseeing Costa Teguise is an excellent choice.

      Things To Do

Costa Teguise can also lay claim to the only water park on the island.  The AquaPark is located around ten minutes walk from the Pueblo Marinero in the direction of Tahiche and is open daily from 10.00 to 18.00.  Half day passes cost €15 for kids and €18 for adults.  Reviews are often a little mixed, kids love it naturally, but it´s not on the scale of some of the mammoth water parks you encounter in other destinations and the water can feel a little chilly during the winter months.

The resort is also home to Lanzarote´s only aquarium, which again isn´t on the grandest scale but can provide a decent diversion for families.

      Sports

Windsurfing, as mentioned before, is a major pastime in Costa Teguise with visitors and residents alike. There are windsurfing schools, shops and equipment rental companies clustered around the beach at Las Cucharas. Most levels of experience are catered for, from absolute beginners upwards.

Cycling and running are also quite widely enjoyed for the more energetic amongst us, the balmy climate and safe roads making for a very pleasant experience.

Costa Teguise is also home to the oldest golf course on the island, so this is where you can head for eighteen holes in the sun all year round.

      Shopping

Like most purpose built resorts, there is no shortage of shops aimed at the tourist sector, with plenty of jewellers, discount electrical stores and general gift shops, with most budgets and tastes being catered for.

If you are on a self-catering holiday, there are plenty of smaller supermarkets within the resort. These stores generally stock a good range of international produce.

A larger supermarket is also located on the outskirts of Costa Teguise in the direction of Arrecife and this is the best outlet if you are looking to buy fresh meat and fish.

      Costa Teguise Night Life

Puerto del Carmen is the nightlife hub of Lanzarote and if you are looking for somewhere to dance into the small hours in a club environment then head there.   Costa Teguise is quieter but still has a handful of decent venues, such as the Krazy Lounge that are worth seeking out.  There´s regular live jazz at Jazz Mi Madre, close to the Pueblo Marinero and loads of bars and restaurants.  But if you´re expecting anything really lively you´ll be disappointed.

      Where to Eat

Costa Teguise scores highly when it comes to eating out.  Most of the best restaurants are located in the Playa Bastian area of the resort, with Oscars, El Navarro and Isla Bonita all rated highly.  Read our guide to restaurants in Costa Teguise for more in depth information.

Costa Teguise is well served by public transport with buses and taxis being readily available. However if you want to really get the most out of your holiday to Costa Teguise and explore some of the tourist attractions which are further afield, you should consider renting a car.

There are many car hire companies within the resort, but these can be very busy, especially in peak season. We therefore reccommend booking your car in advance. Our Lanzarote Car Hire page has further details.

There is a wide choice of places to stay in Costa Teguise, from studio apartments to luxury villas; which means that there is accommodation for most people’s needs and budgets. View our selection of villas in Lanzarote available for rent.

You can check out the available hotels in Costa Teguise on our Lanzarote Hotels page.

      Apartments

There are plenty of decent, family orientated apartment complexes in Costa Teguise which offer good value accommodation, such as Los Zocos and El Sirocco.  We also offer a small selection of privately owned holiday apartments in Costa Teguise.

The market in Costa Teguise could currently be described as pretty flat.  It remains a good place to invest in a holiday villa or apartment for rental purposes and plenty of ex-pats choose to relocate here.   But if you´re looking for serious capital gains then hold tight, as many local observers believe that prices could still fall further here.  This is evidenced by the fact that there are quite a few unfinished developments around the outer reaches of the resort.  Whilst some developers have been unable to fill units that were thrown up in the heady days prior to the credit crunch.

      Estate Agents

If you are thinking about investing in property here make sure you consult reputable estate agents in Costa Teguise, to ensure that you get the best advice.

Lanzarote, Spain. All about holidays in the resort of Lanzarote

Of the entire Canary archipelago, this island is the most easterly. It is also the 4th in size, and it is also called the “island of fire-breathing mountains”, since there are about three hundred volcanoes here. Ash and basalt cover a third of Lanzarote, which is the result of a very strong eruption of 30 volcanoes. It happened in the 30th year of the 18th century, and everything went on for six years.
It must be said that it is impossible not to be impressed by how anything grows on this dry land. In general, mostly people come here to look at the so-called lunar landscapes, where absolute desertion reigns and there are no signs of life.

      Lanzarote

Perhaps this particular island can be called the most unusual in the archipelago, it will definitely not leave anyone indifferent. A special charm is an amazing combination of nature and civilization, landscapes of volcanoes, soft architecture.

Many artists were inspired by local views and created their masterpieces. For example, a French story written by Michel Houellebecq is dedicated to the island. In addition, more than once there were shootings about planets where there is no life yet.

      wonderful resort island

It is not possible to fly here directly from Moscow. In any case, you need to do a transplant. The most comfortable option is to fly to Tenerife, and from there by domestic flight to Lanzarote. Aircraft of VIM-Avia, Transaero, AirBaltic, Helios-Air companies fly to Tenerife. The flight takes about 7.5 hours, and the price varies depending on the carrier company and the time of year. From Tenerife to Lanzarote you can fly for about 80 euros. Upon arrival on the island, you can get to any resort place by bus, taxi or rented car.

      Beaches

The best beaches can be found in the south of Lanzarote, where the water is clear and the sand is white. These beaches have retained their originality, and all due to the fact that it is very difficult to get to this bay.
The oldest resorts of the island, Costa Teguise and Puerto del Carmen, are located in the southeastern part of the island. Those who like to just lie under the sun do not particularly like these places, because a strong wind blows here. But windsurfers love these areas. As for the resort of Costa Teguise, it is located just 15 minutes from the airport.
Playa Blanca is a fairly young resort, it is in this resort that the most beautiful beaches and excellent service are. For those traveling with kids, this is the perfect option.

      Attractions

As already noted, the main feature is the local landscapes, which managed to glorify the island even in films. In the west of the island there is the Timanfaya National Park, which is a volcano that once changed the look of Lanzarote. In addition, tourists on the bus pass around the “fiery mountains”, which are a field of lava, and even in the bus you feel the heat emanating from the earth, because just a few centimeters from the surface and the degree reaches +350. It should be noted that according to the lava, which
is frozen and represents lunar landscapes, it is forbidden to walk.

      What to bring from Lanzarote

In the northeast side there is the La Corona massif, where you can see unusual volcano pipes and a cave. These sights are located under the volcanic fields of the Crown. And the local cave is the largest cave in the world, which was formed from a volcano. It reaches a depth of six kilometers, the height of some halls is 15 meters, and their width is 24. An interesting fact is that due to good acoustics a concert hall was organized here.

Those who love ancient architecture can see the fortification, which was built in 1779. It stands on a ledge of basalt. The structure was erected in order to protect the island from attacks from outside. Inside the building there is a museum where you will see an exposition of abstract painting and sculpture, which dates back to the 50-70s of the last century. There are also works by Manrique, who founded the museum.

Among other things, in Lanzarote you can see the Cactus Garden and the rocks of Famara. There is also an observation deck with a wonderful view. You can also see the place where pink flamingos fly – Salinas de Janubio. The northern part of the island is famous for the “Valley of 1000 Palms”, they say that this is how the island looked before the moment when the historic eruption occurred.

This seaside town can be called a typical beach resort of the Mediterranean coast of Spain, Puerto del Carmen originated from the tiny poor fishing village of La Tiñosa, its features are still easily distinguishable around the old port lagoon.

      Costa Teguise

An excellent holiday destination located north of the capital, 15 minutes drive from the airport, originally conceived by its designer Cesare Manrique as a modern resort center for the program of tours to Spain on the island of Lanzarote. From the time of its founding (1418) by Maciot de Betancourt, Teguise served as the island’s capital until 1875, after which Arrecife became the main city. The most beautiful medieval town with its traditions, way of life, ancient castles, churches, narrow streets, houses of wealthy citizens, the old center carefully preserves the spirit of the Middle Ages.

One of the visiting cards of the Costa Teguise is La Mareta, the residence of the Spanish royal family. Former King Hussein of Jordan ordered the construction of a summer residence already known to us by Caesar Manrique, after the completion of which he presented it to the current king of Spain, Juan Carlos, on his wedding day.

Now Costa Teguise is a quiet, respectable tourist center where the European elite, including monarchs, rest. The seaside town does not have a port, but it has four beautiful natural beaches: Playa Los Charcos, Playa de Cucharas, Playa de Jablio, Playa Bastian. This part of the coast is characterized by constant winds, which is why it is very popular with fans of all types of surfers.

      Puerto Calero

An elite seaside village south of Puerto del Carmen, a very quiet, uncrowded place where infrastructure, bars, restaurants, shops, residential complexes are concentrated along the yacht port. This place suggests quiet respectable tours to Spain on the island of Lanzarote.

The port is located 3 kilometers south of the resort center of Puerto del Carmen, it can rather be described as a respectable area of the city. All residential and special buildings of the port village are in perfect harmony with the traditional architecture of Lanzarote.

For more than twenty years of history, the size of the harbor has doubled, continuing to modernize, nearby areas are being built up with modern residential tourist complexes. Today, Puerto Calero occupies one of the first places among the marinas of the Canary Islands, it has 420 well-equipped berths for ships up to 50 meters long, berths have already been designed where 70 meter yachts can moor. The port administration offers a high level of service for vacationers, modern means of communication, two helipads, restaurant services on board, bars, restaurants, SPA salons, a golf club, coastal sports clubs offer rental of the necessary accessories for any kind of water sports.

It should be noted that beach, tourist attractions, nightlife attributes are located in Puerto del Carmen, it is very convenient to get to it using the “sea tram”. In addition to visiting the museum of marine mammals and the art gallery from the local port, you can organize exciting boat trips, sea fishing, the Yellow Submarine offering an hour-long underwater sightseeing trip is very popular.

      Playa Blanca

The southernmost resort town of Lanzarote, belonging to the municipality of Yaiza, has a traditional history of origin, like most coastal resorts in Spain, on the site of a small fishing village. The construction of the resort area began a few years ago, this is the youngest resort on the island, continuing its dynamic development, the name Playa Blanca in Spanish means “White Beach”, which characterizes it as a first-class beach holiday center. In recent years, the population of the town has grown to 11,000 inhabitants, due to migrants from European countries, as well as Canada, South America, and the USA. Thanks to a well-thought-out infrastructure, a large number of tourists do not interfere with spending a quality beach holiday in Spain here.

The coastline of Playa Blanca, representing a large bay, is a little over nine kilometers, consists of three separate natural bays dotted with fine white sand; Playa Dorada, Playa Blanca, Playa Flamingo. Modern hotels, whose architectural solutions are in harmony with the peculiar architecture of the island, offer excellent service, for middle-class tourists there is a large selection of tourist apartments located in the first line of the beach.

The south coast of Lanzarote has two seaports, one of which is located near the central promenade called Marina Rubicon. The port area, a wonderful recreation area with cozy cafes, quiet restaurants from the terraces of which offer beautiful views of the port waters. From here you can take an exciting boat trip or rent a yacht for deep sea fishing. A little east of the port is Punta del Aquila, here you can see the main attraction of Playa Blanca, its calling card, the Castillo de las Coloradas tower, built (1741-1744) to repel frequent pirate attacks. Next is the most famous beach area of the southern coast of Playas de Papagayo, a great vacation spot where coastal hotels and modern commercial centers are located.

      Landmarks of Lanzarote

      Timanfaya National Park

One of the most unusual sights available for visiting during the program of tours to Spain on the island of Lanzarote is Timanfaya National Park. The park occupies the southwestern part of the island, with an area of 51 sq. km. was opened on August 9, 1974. In fact, this is a lifeless desert formed as a result of a powerful eruption of a large number of volcanoes that lasted six years (1730-1736). Now, due to incessant volcanic activity, a temperature of about 600ºC is recorded at a depth of 13 meters from the surface of the earth. The territory of the park is allowed to be visited by tourist groups only accompanied by special guides.

      Caves Jameos del Agua

Tours to Spain on the island of Lanzarote may include a visit to the island’s caves. At the foot of the Monte de la Corona volcano, on the northern side of Lanzarote Island, there is an amazing tunnel at a depth of 100 meters, consisting of several caves. The longest lava cave on the planet, Cueva de los Verdes, is unique, more than 6 kilometers long, lying below sea level. These caves became available to tourists (1968) after the construction here by the artist Cesar Manrique of a concert hall, a nightclub, two bars, a tropical garden, and an impressive swimming pool.

      Caesar Manrique House Museum

April 1, 1992 in the village of Taro de Tahiche (5 km from Arrecife) opened its doors to visitors the cultural center of Lanzarote, Fundacion Cesar Manrique. The museum occupies the building where the famous artist lived and worked until 1988. The total area of the house of two floors is 1800 sq. m. The site is located on five volcanic craters, covers an area of 30,000 square meters. m. Tourists organizing tours to Spain on the island of Lanzarote will open an exhibition with works of art as contemporary artists, as well as a private collection of works by such prominent artists as Picasso, Miro, Klee, Chillida.

      Viewpoint Mirador del Río

Like almost all outstanding architectural structures, Caesar Manrique came up with the idea of creating a viewing platform for viewing the beauties of his beloved island, which he realized (1973) with the participation of Eduardo Cáceres and Jesus Soto. Initially, the architects wanted to set up a restaurant on top of a cliff 470 meters high, from the terrace of which the island would be observed, but the restaurant had to be abandoned, limiting itself to only a bar, nevertheless, from the observation deck, fascinating views of Lancerote, as well as neighboring islands of the northern Chinyjo archipelago, open up.

      El Golfo

An amazing place, the southwestern part of the island, the sea lagoon framed by a rocky coast, the remains of the Timanfaya volcano crater. One edge eventually destroyed the ocean. At the bottom of the crater, a lake was formed, the water of which acquired a poisonous green hue due to the algae that developed there. A strip of black sand separates the lake from the azure waters of the Atlantic Ocean. The sand of the crater contains the semi-precious mineral olivine, in search of which you can always find inquisitive tourists choosing tours to Spain on the island of Lanzarote. Further, the rock formation of the rocky coast changes shades of color, from black to red or green. Not far from the lagoon is the small fishing village of El Golfo, the local inexpensive fish restaurants are a favorite place to visit for both locals and tourists.

      Cactus Garden

The latest creation of the artist César Manrique, creator of the individual look of the island of Lanzarote, is the Cactus Garden, the construction and equipment of which lasted more than 20 years. This garden was opened in 1990. The territory of the Cactus Garden, occupies the top of a small hill, Caesar Manrique created a garden in the likeness of a Roman amphitheater. From here you have a beautiful view of the island of Lanzarote. In front of the entrance to the territory of the Cactus Garden, an 8-meter metal cactus rises, visible from afar, designed to serve as a guide for tourists for many years to come.

      Castillo de San Jose

Defensive fortress built (1776-1779) during the reign of King Carlos III to protect the capital’s port of Arrecife from pirate attacks. The castle began to be built immediately after the devastating six-year volcanic eruption, then many residents who lost their livelihood got jobs and were able to improve their financial situation. Therefore, the fortress is popularly called “Hungry” (Fortaleza de hambre). More than a hundred years (XIX century) the castle was not used by the military. The fortress received a second life (1976) on the initiative of the same Caesar Manrique, who opened the Museum of Modern Art, a concert hall, a restaurant, a bar here, from here you can enjoy beautiful views of Puerto de los Marmoles. Tours to Spain on the island of Lanzarote may include a visit to the fortress on any of the days of the declared program.

      Castle Castillo de Santa Barbara

Another powerful fortification built on top of the Guanapay volcano, next to the former capital of Teguise, can be seen by tourists choosing tours to Spain on the island of Lanzarote. Its construction began during the stay of Lancelotto Malosello. Outside the castle walls, the inhabitants fled from numerous attacks by pirates. By order of King Philip II (1588), military engineer Leonardo Torriani developed a plan for the reconstruction of the fort. After each battle, the fortress received significant damage, the result of each reconstruction was the strengthening of its combat power, as well as the internal premises for maintaining the garrison and accommodating the hiding inhabitants.

      Salinas de Janubio

Salinas del Janubio is the largest salt mine in the Canary archipelago, located near the Timanfaya National Park. Previously, the saltworks produced up to 10,000 tons of salt annually, today its production is limited to 2,000 tons annually. The salt industry has always been one of the main components of the income of the inhabitants of Lanzarote. The local saltworks has been known since the time of the Great Roman Empire. Now the salt lagoon is one of the tourist attractions, every tourist tries to visit the saltworks in order to capture the colorful reservoirs of a huge salt lake from the observation deck, the circumference is about 1000 meters, and the depth of the water surface is up to 3 meters.

      El Patio Museum

Completing the chain of interesting places available for sightseeing during tours to Spain on the island of Lanzarote, an old peasant farm near the village of Tiagua in the province of Teguise received a second birth and today attracts all tourists traveling around the island of Lanzarote. Here, on the initiative of Caesar Manrique, the administration of the island of Lanzarote created the El Patio ethnographic museum, which preserves the traditional culture of the inhabitants of Lanzarote. Looking at the exposition of the museum, visitors can imagine what hard work was done by local peasants cultivating volcanic soils. The opening of the El Patio Museum took place on January 15, 1994 years old.

Lanzarote is the fourth largest island in the archipelago and one of the most volcanically active places in the Canary Islands. Almost the entire center of the island is occupied by lifeless tuff fields, volcanic cones and caves (in the 18th-19th centuries, local volcanoes flooded the entire island with lava, almost completely “rewriting” its landscapes). To the north rises the Famara mountain range (671 m) with the La Corona volcano, and the south coast is framed by the Axaches mountains (608 m). The main attraction of the volcanic area is the Cueva de los Verdes cave, which stretches for 6 km under the lava fields of La Corona. Some of its sections reach 24 meters wide and 15 meters high. Nearby lie the famous volcanic mountains of Fuego (“Fiery”), whose valleys are covered with multi-colored volcanic ash and surrounded by black obsidian wastelands. All this territory, and these are more than 300 extinct volcanoes, 60 sq. km of lifeless lava fields and “lunar landscapes”, is part of the Timanfaya National Park. Oddly enough, about 180 plant species grow on these seemingly lifeless lands, 70 of which are endemic, which allowed UNESCO to declare the park a World Biosphere Reserve. And tourists, among other things, are attracted here by the El Diablo restaurant, all dishes of which are cooked right on the ground – volcanic rocks at a depth of just a couple of meters have a temperature of several hundred degrees, which allows you to fry meat directly on the stones.

The island is famous for the works of the artist Cesar Manrique, who essentially turned Lanzarote into his workshop. Almost everywhere you can find unusual landscape and architectural works of this master, and the sculptor turned the famous cave of Los Jameos del Agua into a symbol of the unique blind crab that lives here. By the way, even the cave of Cueva de los Verdes Manrique managed to fill with the sounds of fantastic music and illumination.

Capital of Lanzarote – small town Arrecife (Arrecife), located on the east coast. The city itself cannot boast of any sights, only the castles of San Gabriel and San Jose in its vicinity may be of interest to tourists. But the El Reducto beach adjacent to the city is considered one of the best in the archipelago. The snow-white houses of Mosagi, the Spinola Palace and the Guanapay Castle in Teguise are beautiful, the most picturesque villages Yaysa, Uga, Tias and Aria , the magnificent beaches of the bay Papagayo , the coast of Los Hervideros (flows of solidifying lava and ocean water met here), the Cactus Garden, the green crater of El Golfo and the Mirador del Rio observation deck (also by Manrique). The best resorts on the island are Puerto del Carmen (a recognized center of nightlife and recreation by the sea), Famara , Playa Blanca , Puerto Calero and Playa Teguise (Costa Teguise).
