This chart shows the 14 day weather trend for Canary Islands (Canary Islands, Spain) with daily weather symbols, minimum and maximum temperatures, precipitation amount and probability.

    • The deviance is coloured within the temperature graph. The stronger the ups and downs, the more uncertain the forecast will be. The thick line represents the most probable trend.
    • Variation in precipitation is represented as a „T“. These uncertainties usually increase with the number of forecasts days ahead.
    • The forecast is created with „ensemble“ models. Several model runs with varying start parameter are calculated to estimate the predictability of the forecast more precisely.

Matriculating from the Canary Islands, Diaz Graham twins make Pitt their 2nd home

He attacks from behind, always with a weapon in his hands. Every day. And gets away with it.

“When he has that blocking pad in his hand, you better be ready for anything,” Pitt freshman Guillermo Diaz Graham said of associate head coach Tim O’Toole.

It’s all part of how O’Toole gets his big men ready for the rigors of the ACC. The soft blocking pad is meant to simulate the bumping and shoving associated with action in the paint.

“I’m not used to all the bumps (in games),” said Diaz Graham, a 7-foot freshman from the Canary Islands. “I’m working out with T.O., bumping everywhere, getting ready for the contact (to) just get tougher and get stronger.”

This is a season of transition for Diaz Graham and his 6-foot-11 twin brother, Jorge. Guillermo, who speaks Spanish, French and English, plays in the post, while Jorge is a wing player.

Coach Jeff Capel is thoughtful in his usage of the twins. Guillermo scored seven points in 30 minutes against VCU in November, six in 20 last Wednesday at Louisville. Then, he played in the seven-point loss to Florida State on Saturday for less than six minutes, only long enough to grab one rebound.

Jorge never got off the bench against the Seminoles, but he is averaging more minutes (11.3/8.6) and points (3.4/2.0) than his brother. Their rebound totals are similar (45 for Guillermo, 44 for Jorge).

Yet, with 6-foot-9 center John Hugley lost for the season, Pitt might need the twins’ length Wednesday against Wake Forest and in the crucial second half of the ACC season.

Florida State used four players 6-10 or taller. When Pitt (13-7, 6-3) meets Wake Forest (14-6, 6-3), the twins and starting 6-11 center Federiko Federiko must contend with 7-1, 250-pound Matthew Marsh and 6-10, 220 Andrew Carr. Guillermo’s listed weight is 205 pounds, Jorge 190.

In practice, Federiko gives Guillermo a workout under the basket.

“He’s hard to guard. I have to box him out,” Guillermo said. “I have to push him around. He’s pushing me back and I’m getting used to being pushed. I think it’s great for both. It’s more than we expected.

“Every one of the guys on the floor are pushing you. Be ready for 40 minutes of being pushed around.”

Jorge is only 1 inch shorter and 15 pounds lighter than his brother, but they play two distinctly different positions.

“I’ve always been taller and stronger than him, and he’s always been quicker than me, better footwork, more like a wing player,” Guillermo said. “Growing up, I just decided to stay in my floor position and post up and get open. It’s just how we grew up.”

In the Canary Islands, a Spanish community 62 miles off the coast of Morocco, the twins played basketball and soccer. No surprise, Guillermo was a goalkeeper.

In July, Guillermo helped the Spanish national team win the Under 20 European Championship, averaging 6.3 points and 1.7 blocks per game. Jorge was invited to train with the team.

Both attended IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla., where Jorge averaged 15.5 points, shot 44% beyond the 3-point arc and had seven 3s in one game. Guillermo averaged 12.5 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.1 blocks.

That’s where they met O’Toole, a coach from a city called Pittsburgh that was largely unfamiliar to them.

Eventually, O’Toole met with the twins and their parents, Francisco Diaz and Elizabeth Graham.

“He told us about Pittsburgh,” Guillermo said, “how me and my brother could play together at Pitt. We made a visit here. We fell in love with Pittsburgh.”

He said they chose Pitt over Utah State, San Francisco and UMass because of “the people.”

“I have a family back home, far away,” Guillermo said. “(Pitt coaches) told me they would take care of me. It’s a big family here. That’s the No. 1 thing.”

Plus, there was the competition and the chance to grow.

“The ACC is big-time. We wanted a big challenge,” he said.

The twins weren’t obsessed with going to the same school, but Guillermo said Pitt made it seem right.

“At the last moment,” he said, “we felt like, ‘OK, we have to (stay) together because this thing is really good.’ ”

Guillermo, 19, said Pitt’s older players have helped their transition.

“I remember early in the season when I was not getting many minutes, all the guys came to me and said, ‘Be ready,’ ” he said.

Then, during the World Cup, the twins and their teammates formed another bond.

“Me, Fede, Jorge and Nate (Santos),” Guillermo said, “we were going to watch it by ourselves. Then, they put the games (on the TV) in the locker room. I got Greg (Elliott), I got Nelly (Cummings) watching and asking me (about the game).

“I’m going crazy in the locker room. These guys really care about me because they don’t care about soccer, but they get excited about a game they don’t know (about), just because they see me excited.

“Instead of watching it alone, I got the whole team doing it. You don’t feel like you’re that far away from home.”

The twins’ parents visited over the holidays, with Elizabeth making sure their refrigerator was well-stocked and fixing their favorite meal (steak, cooked with onions and dates).

“I had Fede and Nate try it. Two minutes, it was gone.”

Their parents watch Pitt games at 2 a.m. in the Canary Islands, but they were in town for the North Carolina and Virginia victories.

Guillermo told them, “We won both games. You have to move here.”

How we spent the winter in Spain and how much money we spent

We (Dasha – yoga instructor and Max – programmer) spend the winter months traveling for the third year in a row. During this time we have visited Latin America and Southeast Asia. This year we decided to go to Europe to get acquainted with the Canary Islands, mainland Spain and Portugal.

    How to get there

Since we are from Minsk, it is the cheapest way for us to fly to mainland Spain and the Canary Islands from Warsaw on the low-cost airline Ryanair. If you take tickets in advance and not at the height of the season, then it turns out quite budget. Tickets Warsaw – Tenerife cost us 60 euros per person. The flight time was just over 5 hours. nine0003

From Russia, it is usually more profitable to fly to Barcelona first, and from there either travel around mainland Spain or fly further to the islands.

    To Barcelona!

    Winter weather

The Canary Islands have good weather all year round. In winter, the temperature does not fall below +18C both on land and in the ocean.

On the mainland, for example, in Valencia, in the winter months (January and February), at night the thermometer mark can show zero, and during the day from +15 to +20C. It becomes cold even in apartments, only a heater helps out. Perhaps that is why in winter the Spaniards themselves try to spend more time on the street. They bask in the sun and save on electricity. nine0003

On the way to the Teide volcano (Tenerife island)

    Rental prices

We always use Airbnb to find accommodation when we travel. If you book in advance, at least a couple of months in advance, you can save a lot, and there will be more choice.

In the Canary Islands, we lived in apartments for 25 euros per night, with a separate bedroom and a combined kitchen-living room. On the mainland, this time (from December to March) is considered the low season, and we were lucky to rent a studio right on the seashore for 30 euros per day. And in Portugal, for the same money, we spent several weeks on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean in an old house. nine0003

    South coast of Portugal

    Rent a car

On this trip we rented a class A car for only 11 euros per day. You should carefully read reviews about rental companies. Unobvious payments and problems with deposit refunds can be hidden behind the low cost of renting a car.

Traveling by car in Spain and Portugal is a real pleasure: high-speed highways away from cities, specially equipped places for recreation and non-stop change of scenery from orange and olive groves. Sometimes you have to pay for such pleasure. Toll roads are found in both Spain and Portugal. The cost depends on the mileage. nine0003

    Food

    In restaurants

Spain’s gastronomic wealth consists of seafood and fish, paella (a dish of rice with saffron, seafood or meat, and vegetables cooked in a special pan), small tapas and several varieties of cold tomato soup gazpacho. The regions of Spain differ from each other not only in history, but also in cuisine. In each city you can try a special dish that is found only in this area. nine0003

The average price for a hot dish in establishments is 8-10 euros, paella for two is about 25 euros. In the Spanish city of Granada, tapas are brought free of charge when ordering a drink. In the Canaries, in cafes and restaurants, olives, bread and local sauces are brought free of charge as an aperitif. For the same set in Portugal, they offer to pay about 5-7 euros.

Portuguese cuisine cannot be imagined without cod – dried cod, salted cod, baked and fried cod. There is even a joke: “If you live with a Portuguese, then 365 days a year he will cook cod according to different recipes and will never repeat it.” For dishes in establishments in Portugal, you will have to pay a little more – about 12-18 euros per serving. nine0003

    In stores

In Spanish supermarkets and fruiteries (small shops selling vegetables and fruits) we have always been pleased with a large selection of inexpensive and high-quality vegetables and fruits. Oranges were especially sweet and juicy. The cost of an orange per kg is less than a euro; bananas, pineapples, apples and pears – about 1.5 euros. Mango and papaya cost us more – more than 2 euros per kg. Fresh seafood was the cheapest in the Canary Islands – about 8 euros per kg, on the mainland – 10 euros, squid – 4 euros, mussels – 2 euros. In Portugal, prices for all the same products were slightly higher. nine0003

We cooked more at home, and went to cafes mostly only on weekends.

    Internet

In the Canary Islands and the mainland, we paid 19 euros for mobile internet for 10 GB. The concept of unlimited mobile Internet, in principle, does not exist. In Portugal, you will have to pay 30 euros for the same tariff plan. We liked the quality of the Internet in Portugal more than in Spain.

    Conclusion

We liked wintering in Europe! We got everything we were looking for – the sea, the sun, fruits and fantastically beautiful places. Of course, there is no Asian heat, simplicity and ridiculous housing prices.

    Things to do in Arrecife

What are the best things to do in Arrecife?

Arrecife is the capital of Lanzarote, and as you might expect the least focused on tourism, but that doesn’t mean that it’s difficult to find things to do. Quite the opposite in fact! Arrecife is home to the major port of Lanzarote and welcomes many cruise ships to the island. The majority of cruise guests book up on tours and excursions around the island, and there are certainly plenty to choose from.

Attractions to visit in Arrecife Lanzarote

Lanzarote has an interesting history. Not only due to the fact that the island was formed during a period of immense volcanic activity but also through one of their own, César Manrique. Many of the attractions around the island that we see today were inspired and created by the late artist himself. To this day the influence of Manrique is present in every corner of the island. The excursions to these attractions are all bookable online with pickup and drop-off in Arrecife.

    Los Jameos Del Agua

A concept and development by César Manrique, Los Jameos del Agua is a collection of smaller attractions that fuse man with nature. The lava tunnel is home to thousands of tiny albino crabs, whilst a cave-based auditorium delights guests with outstanding acoustics and musical performances.

Timanfaya National park. One of the must things to do in Lanzarote

Quite possibly the jewel in the crown of things to do in Lanzarote, The Timanfaya National Park is a stark reminder of the devastation and destruction that helped form the island into what it is today.

Mirador del Rio. The must-see lookout is built into the cliffs of Famara.

If you’ve got a head for heights, then El Mirador del Rio is a must-see. This Manrique-inspired lookout is built 400m high into the cliff side of El Risco de Famara and overlooks the neighbouring island of La Graciosa. Inside there is a small cafe/snack bar and gift shop. Things to do on the water in Arrecife Whilst there are no Catamaran excursions that depart Arrecife itself, it is possible to get a pick-up/drop-off service to Puerto Calero included in the price of an excursion. The best Catamaran Experience in Lanzarote The CatLanza excursions offer some of the most amazing experiences you will find in Lanzarote. Catlanza operates three different Catamarans that are available for special events, private hire, or as an excursion giving you a memorable afternoon out at sea and on anchor at the stunning Papagayo beaches.

Still, looking for things to do in Arrecife?

    Support the Lanzarote football team

If you like football, UD Lanzarote plays their home games in Arrecife and you can usually catch their home games on a Sunday lunchtime during the football season. The crowd is a great mix of locals, holiday makers and people from around the world who have made Lanzarote their home.

Tea and Cake on the 17th Floor

You might have noticed that most buildings in Lanzarote are only a few stories high. This was a law that was put in place to protect the skyline and buildings have to be painted white. There is one exception to the rule though, and it was strongly contested. That’s the Gran Hotel in Arrecife. This building is the only high rise in Lanzarote. The 17th floor of the hotel has a restaurant and a cafe, from which you sit and look down on life happening in the city. It’s definitely on our list of things to do in Arrecife.

Visit the Aquarium at Costa Teguise

Costa Teguise is a town and holiday resort just up the coast from Arrecife. One of the main attractions here is the largest aquarium in the Canary Islands. The Aquarium offers a great day out for all the family and is easily accessible via a short bus trip from Arrecife.

    Shopping in Arrecife

For Lanzarote, Arrecife is a large city and has many different areas dedicated to shopping. You can find many high street brands in the main city center and marina, whilst out of town, there are larger commercial areas that are great for furniture, home improvement, and electrical items. Truth be told, if you can’t find what you need in Arrecife, you might need to turn to the internet! One tip for shopping in Arrecife – avoid Saturday afternoons and Sundays. It’s a ghost town as the locals shut up shop for their weekend siesta and day of rest. Whilst Arrecife isn’t particularly a popular tourist resort, it is home to a number of hotels on the seafront. The city is generally busy and vibrant and you’ll find it to be much more typically Canarian than the main holiday resorts. There are plenty of things to do in Arrecife and it’s definitely worth a visit or two during your stay on the island.

    San Agustin : Travel guide

San Agustín, an outstanding archaeological site

San Agustin is a traditional and very welcoming village located in the heart of the Andes Mountains in the south of Colombia. It is the largest archaeological area in the country, with gigantic and imposing stone statues, reliefs, funerary burial mounds, paved paths and terraces, unique vestiges of a mysterious civilization that disappeared long before the arrival of the Spaniards.

    San Agustín : history

5,000 years ago, two primitive cultures lived in the Magdalena and Cauca river valleys. It was here that they met to exchange, trade and dig their graves. They became masters of sculpture using the volcanic rocks of the region, which they transformed into more than 500 life-size statues scattered over the hills of San Agustin.

What little is known about these peoples is that they had no written language and disappeared several centuries before the conquistador Francisco García de Tovar and his men were the first Europeans to arrive in this valley in the 18th century in search of El Dorado.

Five hours north of San Agustin is the archaeological site of Tierradentro, where the Paeces Indians dug deep and complex ancestral tombs decorated with geometric figures painted in white, red and black.

Did you know that? The Paeces people are still linked to their “land of the interior“, named after the conquistadors who had great difficulty penetrating this area where mountains and canyons meet. This rugged terrain allowed the Paeces to resist fiercely, and to ensure the survival of their culture thanks to their descendants who still walk the thousand-year-old paths of Tierradentro.

    St. Augustine – City Guide

St. Augustine is the oldest city in the United States that exists today. It was founded back in 1565 by the Spaniards. Since then, the city of St. Augustine has constantly existed – people have lived in it from the moment the first stone was laid in the fort on the site of the modern city to the present day. St. Augustine is located in Florida on the Atlantic coast. You can visit many attractions in the city – first of all, this is the Castillo de San Marcos Fort in the Spanish Quarter, the King Street area with museums and wineries, the Catholic Cathedral of the late 19century, many buildings in the colonial style, some of which have been restored, while others have been rebuilt. Of interest is the crocodile farm of the end of the century before last, where alligators are grown. On a nearby island is the 1824 San Agustin Lighthouse.

From popular Spanish destinations such as Tenerife, Majorca and Lanzarote, to venturing to purpose built complexes in Turkey where everything you could need is within reach of your apartment, you’ll find plenty of options to get the most out of your budget.

What is the difference between full board and all inclusive holidays?

With full board packages, travellers can expect breakfast, lunch, and dinner to be included within the holiday cost. On an all inclusive holiday, your extras such as drinks and snacks come at no extra cost, making this the key difference between these options.

Actual water temperatures close to the shore can vary by several degrees compared to the indicated values. This can be noticeable after heavy rain or after long periods of strong winds. Some downwinds cause cold deep waters to replace surface waters that have been heated by the sun.

To develop a forecast, we use our own mathematical model, which takes into account the current change in water temperature, historical data and main weather trends, wind strength and direction, air temperature in each specific region. We also consider data for other resorts in Spain.

Walk from the village of Tejeda to the center of the island “Cruz de Tejeda”: diman7777 – LiveJournal

Today we will talk about the Canary island of Gran Canaria. I’ll tell you about an interesting walk from the beautiful historical village of Tejedo to the geographical center of the island “Cruz de Tejeda”. This region shows that Gran Canaria is quite rightly called a continent in miniature. Anyone who climbs to the top of almost 1500 meters will find a wonderful green landscape here. However, enough words, let’s go for a walk with me along a mountain path with beautiful views and blooming almonds everywhere. nine0003

    01. We get to the village of Tejeda by car.

    02. We were in Gran Canaria at the beginning of February, when the island was immersed in greenery and driving through the mountains was simply mesmerizing.

    03.

    04. We leave our rental car near this beautiful villa and go for a walk.

    05. The streets of Tejeda are always full of tourists.

    06. We leave the streets of a pretty village and go to the mountains, look at Tejeda from above. nine0005

    07. Almond blossoms all around.

    08. Spring is beauty!

    09. View of Roque Nublo and Tejeda at the foot.

    10. Let’s look at Tejeda from above.

    11.

    12.

    13.

    14. Having examined Tejeda from a height, we move on.

    15.

    16. Please note that at the foot of the mountain everything is strewn with flowering almond trees.

    17.

    18. Expanse for bees 🙂

    19. Breathtaking mountain serpentines…

    20. And we go further… of the year for walking tours in Gran Canaria.

    24.

    25.

    26.

    27.

    28. Kalima on the island of Gran Canaria is sand hanging in the air. The wind drives the sand across the ocean and a dense haze or smog forms in the air. nine0005

    29.

    30. Daisies begin to bloom in mid-February.

    31.

    32. In the meantime, we approached Cruz de Tejeda, which is located on the highest mountain pass of Gran Canaria at an altitude of 1580 meters. The lookout owes its name to an engraved stone cross erected in 1960 that marks the geographical center of Gran Canaria. There is also a hotel and several tents where locals sell local specialties: honey, almonds and spices. nine0005

    33. bought local honey and to test palm juice and went further 🙂

    34.

    35.

    36.

    .

    38. Such small villages in the Grand Capabilities so many.

    39.

    40. In the meantime, we quietly returned to the village of Tejeda along a circular route.

    41.

    42. The streets of Tejeda are empty towards evening.

    43.

    44. Lemons grow in someone’s yard.

    • Every adult saves 10 euros per person

Opened in 1972 on Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Islands, this zoological garden is spread over an area of more than 13 hectares. It would not be an exaggeration to say that in Tenerife, Loro Park is practically the number 1 attraction where all tourists strive to get to.

The reverse side of popularity, however, can be called the crowds of people in Loro
park, especially at the peak of the tourist season on the island. nine0003

    Entertainment shows with animals,
which not only demonstrate the miracles of training, but also show a fragile
the relationship of a person and the world around him, as well as instill in children an interest and
love for nature. For example, here you can see very touching little parrots that have just hatched from eggs, which are in special transparent incubators.

    Loro Park is located:
Puerto de la Cruz, north of Tenerife. nine0003

    Whom
can be seen in Loro Parque
: marine life in a huge

killer whales, dolphins and sea lions that participate in performances,

penguins in the so-called “penguin house” called “Penguin Planet”,
meerkats, sloths, anteaters and many other animals and birds.

The pride of Loro Park is the impressive show
killer whales, which causes constant delight among the audience. nine0003

Loro Parque is open 365 days a year, from 8.30 am to 6.45 pm.
It is better to come here to the very opening – in this case, you will be able to avoid
large organized groups that bring tour buses. Although
during the day at the performances, pandemonium cannot be avoided anyway. As I already
mentioned that the number of visitors to the park is highly dependent on the season, but usually empty
    its alleys never exist.

    Tickets
    in Loro Parque
you can buy both at the box office and in advance
via the Internet on the park website, print them out and go inside without a queue (which
really saves time – see above about crowds of tourists). nine0003

simple entrance to the park (34 euros for adults, 23 euros for children from 6 to 11 years old,
up to 6 years – free) to a variety of combined tickets. For example – input
to the park and lunch included, entrance to Loro Park and Siam Park (water park)
attractions, located next door), the same plus lunch and others. There are also
tickets that include the cost of travel to the park on special

    Lanzarote nature & wildlife

Birds, bottlenose dolphins & tiny, blind crabs

The extraordinary landscapes of Lanzarote, which range from the lunar-style lava flows or malpais (the “badlands”) of Timanfaya National Park, to the sandy scrub of the Monumento Natural de los Ajaches and the islands of the Chinijo Archipelago, provide many different habitats and ecosystems for endemic species of flora and fauna.

With the coastline of Morocco only 100km to the east, Lanzarote is a regular port of call for many birds migrating to breeding grounds in the north, or returning to their southern winter locations in Africa. Waders and small passerines use the wetlands of the Al Janubio salt pans, or the abandoned saltworks beneath the high cliffs of Famara, to rest and feed on their long journeys.

Four of the five islands of the Chinijo Archipelago are uninhabited and form an avian paradise for both resident and migratory bird species. Shearwater, once hunted by islanders for their fatty meat, now nest safely in their thousands on the high cliffs of the island of Alegranza. Here, too, resident pairs of Eleanoras falcon and osprey hunt the clear waters and steep cliffs. Sea eagles are often seen from the Mirador del Rio which overlooks the island of La Graciosa.

On Lanzarote itself, the houbara bustard regularly nests in the sandy scrubland of the Monumento Natural de Los Ajaches the oldest volcanic formation in the Canary Islands. Just three or four pairs of barbary falcons are resident in Timanfaya National Park, breeding in the craters of the Montaas del Fuego and preying on rabbits, partridge and other small birds and animals which live in the harsh, volcanic terrain.

The marine reserve around the Chinijo Archipelago is one of the largest in Spanish waters. Comprising the five islands of Alegranza, Montaa Clara, La Graciosa, Roque del Oeste and Roque del Este, the reserve covers 90 sq km, which teem with fish. Many species of sea bird live and breed here.

Bottlenose dolphins and pilot whales are regularly seen here, and only recently a pod of orcas in pursuit of their favourite prey, blue fin tuna, were sighted close to the archipelago.

Of the five Chinijo islands, only La Graciosa is inhabited. As access to other islands is either restricted or totally prohibited, the archipelago is an ideal breeding place for sea birds and other avian species. Boat trips to visit the waters and caves of the islands depart from the port of Orzola in northern Lanzarote.

One of the most unusual, and perhaps the smallest, of the remarkable fauna of Lanzarote is the tiny, blind, white crab found in the waters of the lava tube at the Jameos del Agua.

Barely 2cm long, the albino Munidopsis Polymorpha resembles a miniature lobster complete with claws. It has existed in total darkness for so long that it has no eyes and forages for food in the clear water of the cave. These crabs are unique to Lanzarote.

Now one of Manrique’s Centres of Art Culture and Tourism, visitors to the Jameos del Agua can walk through the huge lava tunnel where these tiny crabs can clearly be seen feeding on the bottom of the natural rock pools.

Timanfaya National Park is one of Lanzarote’s major attractions. Volcanic eruptions took place here barely three centuries ago, and even today, rocks close to the surface are heated to 400 degrees centigrade by magma chambers deep beneath the island. The visitors’ center in Mancha Blanca has a series of excellent displays and videos about the volcanic eruptions and their extraordinary impact on Lanzarote’s history and its natural landscapes.

10 best parks and other natural attractions of Lanzarote

We found out by chance that the walk from Puerto del Carmen to Puerto Calero is a landmark of Lanzarote, from TripAdvisor and decided to take this route. We are not fans of hiking, but the route starts on Teide Street, where the club is located – our haven for the holidays. In short, as they say, “God himself ordered.” Of course, we didn’t read reviews on TripAdvisor and didn’t have any preliminary information other than “general considerations”. The alarm clock is set for seven in the morning, backpacks with photographic equipment are collected, “readiness number one” …
Morning has come. Cloudy, cool and gloomy. From the first insistent sounds of the wake-up call, it became clear that the alarm clock is not compatible with a vacation. Not! Fill up, absolutely! As a result, the clock is already eleven, and we are still having breakfast. The weather is cloudy but not rainy. We decided to take a walk “in the cold”. And we set off…
When we left, it was cloudy and cool, but the weather on Lanzarote changes every half an hour, which we were well aware of, but “rake jumping” is a national sport. nine0003 So, let’s go. Teide Street ends with a small parking lot and a dead end for car traffic with garbage cans (see photo). If you turn right at the end of this street, you will find yourself at the foot of a very long steep staircase with a tedious climb to Tuscon street. This staircase is also considered to be Teide Street, and our car navigator strongly recommends moving along it every time, which is absolutely impossible by car.
However, we, at the end of Teide Street, turn left (see photo), onto Verdes Street and also uphill, but not along the steps, but along the serpentine, built here for pedestrians in 2007, even before the reconstruction of the old port. Prior to this, instead of a serpentine, gently sloping road with twenty 180° turns each, there was simply a slope path along which inquisitive tourists, including the author and his wife, climbed up, in places almost on all fours, to take beautiful pictures of the port and central part of Puerto del Carmen. nine0003 Serpentine overcome. We are upstairs, on a pedestrian street paved with paving stones (see photo). Then, having climbed the serpentine, I thought that the most difficult thing was over. If only I knew how cruelly wrong I was…
Walking down the street. Behind the port, on the left, behind a low parapet made of volcanic stone, a rocky steep coast, 30-40 meters high and the ocean. To the right, behind the fences, smoothly turning into a solid wall, there are clubs and private villas (see photos). This wall, from which local plump cats look phlegmatically, not only prevents the inquisitive from entering the private territory, but also supports the soil of the artificial terrace that expands the territory of the villas. An old cast cannon was seen on the wall. Maybe just the entourage, but maybe not …
There are platforms on the road from where you can enjoy wonderful views of the port and the ocean, there are gazebos entwined with blooming red and pink lianas – bougainvillea (lat. Lots of shops and benches. Some benches made of thick polished stone slowly give tired travelers the pleasant solar heat accumulated during the day.
Speaking of heat. Weather, minutes, commercials, 15-20 after our departure from the club, of course, cleared up. The sun revealed its face to the Earth and its inhabitants and began to work hard, that is, fry gullible tourists with all their might. And that’s exactly what they came here for. “Later, when, frankly, it was too late,” it turned out that it was the hottest day of September with temperatures up to 32 degrees Celsius. nine0003 Slowly moving along the pedestrian street along the coast. Here is the border of Puerto del Carmen. The villas on the right gave way to a vast plain. Sunlit volcanoes are visible in the distance.
I remember the times when we also came here to take pictures. With heavier backpacks and even a tripod… Now it seems like a fantasy.
“Beyond the city” pedestrian, cobbled street was replaced by an ordinary dirt road. Stones, bumps, holes. The trail, of course, is man-made, but you need to look carefully under your feet. The parapet was replaced by round wooden posts dug right into the ground with an interval of one and a half to two meters (see photos). Now they did not fence off the ocean shore, but blocked the entrance to the path from the plain. nine0003 How long, how short, but unexpectedly, we got to an obstacle – a deep ravine. Surprise! This ravine had to go down the stairs to sea level (forty meters) and then climb to its other side. The ravine is called Bco. del Quiquere. The steps of the stairs are made of natural stone, but you cannot call them perfectly smooth (see photo). Somewhere they came forward, hanging over the next steps, but somewhere, on the contrary, they were solidly chipped. The staircase is equipped with a massive railing made of logs, up to 10 centimeters in diameter. And these railings helped us a lot. Well, just, very…
We slowly, step by step, went downstairs, holding tightly to these railings and looking intently at our feet. Then slowly climbed to the other side of the ravine. At the same time, they did not forget to take photographs (see photo). In order for the reader to imagine the depth of the ravine, I will give one detail. During the descent, I met a young girl in a sports uniform who was dragging a mountain bike up on her. She had about a third of the stairs left to climb, but she “broke down” and an elderly man who climbed after her began to help her pull this very bike. The help of this man was accepted by the señorita with great gratitude. nine0003 After the ravine, little has changed around – the same dirt road, stones, clay, a pikon (volcanic slag) that has faded to gray. After some time, we reached a place where the posts stand not only along the road, but also across it. As we guessed, this symbolizes the border of the pedestrian zone, although it is still stomping and stomping to Puerto Calero … Something like a kilometer and a half. Behind the posts is the same road, the same stones, clay and dust with a pikon, but there are no more benches. Here it must be said that the road does not go directly to Puerto Calero, but turns right, towards the bus stop near the roundabout. Only after this small detour, the weary traveler’s foot finally steps on the asphalt of civilization. We’ve arrived…! (see photo). nine0003 Except for the serpentine at the beginning of the path and the ravine in its middle, throughout its entire length the road either gradually rises uphill, then gradually descends downhill.
In Puerto del Carmen, we planned to return by water bus, a small pleasure steamer, but the very idea that it would be necessary with backpacks, although not far, to walk from the port and climb the stairs to the club, seemed unbearable and instead of a water bus it was caused an ordinary taxi that delivered us right to the door of the club and cost us, by the way, about half the price. nine0003 The journey, excluding taxis, took two hours, but it should be noted that we were overtaken by many tourists, and we did not overtake anyone. “Tired, but satisfied,” we did not regret our walk at all. In general, such a trip is not for everyone, but it’s worth a try at least once.

Located in a place with a unique climate that allows you to enjoy your holiday all year round, Lanzarote provides you with an alternative to the already pretty tired excursions to major cities or spending time on the beach of some trendy resort. nine0020

Unlike other popular destinations in the Canary Islands – Tenerife and Gran Canaria, Lanzarote is not so famous, however, on the island you will find everything to make your holiday unforgettable.

    Unique nature

Lanzarote’s main attraction is its unique nature. Most of the island is occupied by volcanic surfaces with craters. More than 40% of the island’s territory is part of the reserves. In addition, in 1993 Lanzarote was declared a World Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO. nine0020

    What to see in Lanzarote?

    • The volcanic landscape of the Timanfaya National Park, which covers a quarter of the island, has hardly changed since the 1730 eruption.
    • Cueva de los Verdes is one of the largest volcanic caves in the world. Accompanied by a guide, you can go on a tour of the underground tunnels created by underground lava rivers. Particularly impressive is the demonstration of the acoustic properties of the cave. nine0053

Ferries SC de La Palma SC de Tenerife The schedules and offers of all shipping companies are on MrFerry!

Plan with MrFerry your sea tour of the Canary Islands: with us you will find the easiest way to plan the stops between the different islands and the cheapest rates to buy your tickets!

To reach Tenerife from La Palma, the shortest crossing by ferry is to Los Cristianos, but you can also get directly to the capital, Santa Cruz.

🚢 The ferries from Santa Cruz de La Palma to SC de Tenerife leave 1 time per week, usually on Friday afternoon. The only company operating on this route is Naviera Armas.

The duration of the crossing is approximately 6 hours.

Why choose the ferry to Santa Cruz de Tenerife?

    • It is a direct ferry. The ship does not make stops or transshipments to other islands, so the sailing time is optimized.

    • It is the largest ship in the fleet. It sails on the route to Cadiz, so it is the company’s largest ferry and offers the best services, but it is also the most popular!

It takes you directly to Santa Cruz. To get to the capital, the alternative is to get to the port of Los Cristianos, which however is over 70 km away, so it can be inconvenient, especially if I travel without a vehicle!

What to see in Santa Cruz de La Palma?

In recent years, Santa Cruz has been able to cope with the growing tourism without any problems, both from the point of view of infrastructure (it is the only city in the Canary Islands to have a streetcar transportation network!), and in terms of attractions and cultural proposals, offered to its citizens and to the thousands of tourists who visit it every year.

    Explore Santa Cruz:

Visit the port area on foot. A short walk from the embarkations, we suggest you visit Plaza de España, with its beautiful artificial fountain, and then continue along the waterfront in a southerly direction: here you can see the Auditorium with its spectacular architecture, the Parque Marítimo with its saltwater pools, and the Palmeto de Santa Cruz, a botanical garden that features an incredible variety of flowers and plants from all over the world.

Dive into the history of Tenerife! Visit the Museum of Nature and Archaeology (MUNA) and explore the culture of the Guanches, the aborigines of Tenerife, through the most important collection of objects and artifacts that has come down to us.

Taste the flavors of the island! Visit the Mercado de África, Santa Cruz’s municipal market since 1940, where you can find fresh fruit, local wine, and canned goods of all kinds that will allow you to experience the authentic flavors of Tenerife. In addition to this, the facility that houses it features distinctive neocolonial architecture that is definitely worth seeing!

See the volcano of La Palma coming from Tenerife with ferry or flight

It was a first reaction of excitement followed by panic that the inhabitants of La Palma and its visitors experienced at the beginning of the eruption.

Many tourists, faced with uncertainty, opted to leave the island. And later, as the eruption became more established and prolonged in time, some residents of the area opted to look for places further away from the island where they could spend their days.

To see the volcano on La Palma and the destruction it has caused, you need to contain your emotions !

Don’t miss the most spectacular photos of this eruption!

    See the most spectacular pictures

After more than 70 days of eruption, La Palma is once again experiencing a tourist zero. The first one was caused by the pandemic. But this time all the media focused on news of the catastrophe, selling an image of total chaos and ignoring the fact that the rest of the island is relatively untouched and in pleasant tranquillity.

Cancellations followed one after the other and to this day it is difficult to reach La Palma due to the lack of flights.

Video of the current volcano, comparing it with the eruptions of 1949 and 1971.

    Volcano situation on La Palma

The tragedy has struck in the west, in a strip of land that does not occupy more than 10% of the surface of La Palma. Although it is true that this part of the island was overpopulated. And that is precisely what has transformed this eruption into a tragedy of extraordinary proportions.

But there is an interest in visiting this volcano and this has led to a tourist revival. Every day a steady stream of visitors from neighbouring Tenerife come to see the volcano. These visitors are one-day visitors: they arrive, look at the volcano, take selfies and leave the same day for their safe haven in Tenerife.

However, it is now also possible to visit the volcano comfortably from La Palma. There is the possibility to participate in small groups with a guide or to take advantage of organised transfers to see the volcano on your own.

Virtual tour flying over the Volcano on La Palma

Very quickly the ferries that connect Tenerife with La Palma have been organized to offer several daily connections. And this enables a permanent flow of curious people to come and go every day, giving some work to unemployed tourist guides and companies in the sector.

Night excursions are organized from Tenerife spending the night in the open and thus being able to observe the incandescent red of the lava in its incessant flow towards the sea. Without a doubt, an unrepeatable show that is worth having seen, at least once in your life.

Flying directly to La Palma from anywhere on the mainland may be an improbable adventure. To come and see the volcano, it is best to fly direct to Tenerife. From there you can either get a local flight (Binter and CanaryFly connect the islands very frequently) or use the Ferry

How to see the volcano of La Palma from Tenerife?

    In an organised way:

Companies like GetHoliday have done their homework and have quickly placed excursions to La Palma to see the volcano, both day and night, on the market. All you need to do is book online and follow their instructions. They include the ferry to La Palma, lunch or dinner and transfers by bus, with a local guide.

    On your own:

From Los Cristianos harbor, in the south of Tenerife, both Fred Olsen and Naviera Armas connect Tenerife and La Palma several times a day. Timetables and prices can be consulted online. You can take a seat or hire a car from Tenerife.

When you reach the port of Santa Cruz de La Palma, you only have to drive half an hour along the LP3 in the direction of Los Llanos de Aridane. After crossing the summit tunnel (open, despite the tremors), you first reach El Paso and shortly afterwards Tajuya.

Tajuya is a neighbourhood of El Paso very close to the place where the monster emerged. From the Tajuya square next to its small church, there is a splendid viewpoint overlooking the crater and all the lava fields it has formed over the last 73 days.

Spend a night on La Palma:

If you just want to spend the night in the open air watching the volcano, I don’t need to recommend any accommodation. But if you prefer to watch the spectacle at night and sleep comfortably in a warm bed, the best thing to do is to look for a hotel or holiday home in Santa Cruz de La Palma.

The island’s capital is located on the eastern side of La Palma and its atmosphere is completely different from that of the west. Santa Cruz is relatively free from the tremors, the sulphurous air and the volcanic trembling. In addition, there are small atmospheric corners and nice places where you can have a good dinner.

Santa Cruz is also an ideal starting point for excursions to Roque de Los Muchachos or the northern part of La Palma. Places such as Cubo de La Galga or Los Tilos, with their lush vegetation, are completely unaffected by the eruptive phenomenon. And the idyllic villages in the north, such as Gallegos or Franceses, are paradises for walking, far away from the volcanic core.

In Santa Cruz de La Palma you will find small charming hotels at very moderate prices.
