*** Forecast – Our forecast water temperature values
Actual sea water temperatures near the shore can differ by several degrees from these indicated values. This can be noticeable after heavy rain or after long periods of strong winds. Some downwinds cause cold deep waters to replace surface waters that have been heated by the sun.
To develop a forecast, we use our own mathematical model, which takes into account the current change in water temperature, historical data and main weather trends, wind strength and direction, air temperature in each specific region. We also consider data for other resorts in Puerto Rico.

Let me tell you why. You finally tore yourself away from the computer. Electronics and water don’t quite gel, so you have no choice but to leave your phone and watch behind as well. For once you get to live in the moment and leave all your worries of past and present behind. Where do you start at a water park? From the left? At the back? Do you take the map and treat it as one big to-do list to be ticked off one by one? If you’re like me and not an adrenalin junkie, you’ll find the shrieks you hear left, right and center a bit intimidating. You spot the Mai Thai River, which looks peaceful and inviting. Grab a float, get on and relax… At times it’s so peaceful that you almost fall asleep. It’s great just slowly drifting round and round on the river, which is such a pointless exercise and slowly your nerves calm down and quite frankly you simply don’t give a toss about anything anymore. Tenerife’s glorious sun bakes you from the top while the cold water acts as a coolant keeping your bum cold, leaving your body in balance. Sort of. People attempt to hurry past you, splashing with their arms, pushing with their feet. When will they realise there’s no hurry? Sooner or later you will float forward, it’s only a matter of time. So why rush? Sometimes the river bubbles. Sometimes it flows quickly. Sometimes the waterfall soaks you from the top. Sometimes it gets so busy that your float get stuck along with others and before you know it yours capsizes and you’re head under water waking up from what feels like a delightful dream. Welcome to Siam Park where there are loads of visitors and the queues are as long as hell! If you can, try to avoid peak season such as summer holidays in July and August. If you can’t, take a tip from the Germans and try to get there early before opening time to avoid waiting a terribly long time at the entrance. It’s easy to understand why this water park has been rated best in the world. The place is spotless and you’ll frequently come across staff cleaning the pathways. The designer’s eye for details was superb. Unlike a lot of water parks this place has less of a cookie-cutter feel to it and is made to feel like a tropical jungle. You can’t event see what the actual rides are like because they’re all hidden in flora. Can you spot the dragon? Siam Park and Loro Parque are part of the same company and animals have been incorporated at the water park. After buying a ticket the first sight you’ll come across is Sea Lion Island where the animals are swimming lazily in pristine water. Further up, there are Koi ponds at the Floating Market. Somewhere along the squiggly maze of paths there are also vicious toothed sharks that shouldn’t be messed with. Wet shoes are available to those who are afraid of getting their feet hurt and some of the proceeds of the souvenir shops go to the Loro Parque Foundation. Lockers are for rent, as well as private cabins (!) for the day. Showers and changing rooms are available on site. Thrill seekers will be chuffed with some scary rides while other simply watch in awe. So you fancy dropping 78m at 80km per hour down a chute? Check out the Tower of Power. Also pictured is the Naga Racer, which appeals to more people – a ride where you lie head first on your front. For little adrenalin-junkies in the making, there’s a Lost City that will keep them amused for hours. In the early 90’s Sun City, in South Africa, opened its water park and for an 11-year old the concept of there being a “sea with waves” in the middle of the country was simply mind blowing. With ease, Siam Beach blows the former out of the water, all puns intended. The brilliantly blue water, with fine sand imported from Portugal together with waves minus the sharks makes this the perfect beach experience. All across Siam Park you’ll come find life guards which sends the reassuring message that everyone’s safety is at the forefront of the resort’s mind. Everyone will find something to eat here. There are three snack-bars and two restaurants on site. For those who are terrified of the new, safe international choices are available at The Beach Club such as ribs, roast chicken, pasta and even fresh fruit and vegetables. Since everyone is prancing around in beach wear, The Thai House isn’t a fine dining establishment and you won’t be greeted by bowing Thai staff at the door and struck by wafts of insence. Instead The Thai House follows the same format as its western counterpart and offer a buffer-style spread. Prices are very affordable but don’t let the ecologically-friendly packaging put you off, after all, over a thousand people get served here daily so efficiency is a must. Surprisingly, all food is produced fresh on site every day. Everything – from the chicken wings to the fruit salad. This is no small feat. Ingredients are sourced locally and even something as mundane as the green salad contains top quality ingredients provided by the same seller that caters to other high-end restaurants on the island. Great care has been taken to ensure the authenticity of classic Thai dishes such as Chicken Satay and Pad Thai. Personally, I’m not a fan of mass produced food but admittedly the Yellow Chicken Curry tasted just as good as what I’ve had in posh restaurants in London. Tenerife boasts a wide variety of fruit grown year round and finishing the big meal with a perfectly ripe Tropical Fruit Salad was a treat. With the consistently glorious weather, the thrill of the rides, its cleanliness and great care put into the food, it’s no wonder why Siam park is regarded highly by TripAdvisor reviewers. One thing is certain, it’s the perfect family day out for making happy memories. Siam Park P.S. I was a guest of Siam Park. Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands and occupies a central position in the archipelago. The island has a volcanic nature, which explains the beauty of the landscape – mountains and rocks that go into the water, covered with vegetation or exposing their stone reliefs, as well as views from their slopes. There are two airports on the island – in the northern and southern parts of the island.
Tenerife North
Located in the northern part of the island, the airport can accommodate any type of private aircraft. Business jet passengers are serviced in the passenger terminal using the fast track system; there is no separate VIP terminal at the airport. The airport does not operate at night.
Tenerife Sur
The airport is located in the southern part of the island and is most often used for arrivals in Tenerife. The length of the runway allows you to take all types of business jets. To serve passengers of private jets, the airport has a special VIP zone with a border control zone.
Book a private jet Moscow – Tenerife at prices:
Cessna Citation X 8 seats 38,000 Euro
Challenger 300 9 seats 40,000 Euro
Legacy 650 13 seats 43,000 Euro
Prices are given to understand the approximate order of prices for flights on private jets in this direction. Prices for a particular flight may differ both up and down depending on the market situation.
Jet Sharing – booking a seat on a private jet in Tenerife
Reserving a seat on a private jet is a compromise between the obvious convenience of private jet travel and the relatively high cost of such travel. When you travel by Jet Sharing in a private jet, you get all the benefits of a private jet flight in Tenerife, but reduce the cost by flying with other passengers.
We collect groups of passengers and rent a private jet for a specific date for a flight to Tenerife from Moscow or from Tenerife to Moscow. If the required number of passengers is recruited, the flight will take place. To clarify the planned dates of flights, status and cost, please contact our specialists.

Tenerife is one of the most famous islands of the Canary archipelago. The mild climate of Tenerife is created by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean. The tourist season here lasts all year round; even in winter, the air temperature rarely drops below 20 degrees, although it should be noted that it is the period from May to October that will offer the most favorable conditions for relaxation.
Tenerife often has colorful festivals in the summer.
To travel to Tenerife, a resident of Russia will need a visa, since the Canary Islands, which include Tenerife, belong to Spain, an EU country. As a member of the European Union, Spain requires a visa when entering its territory, which is issued in advance at the consulate of the country.
Tenerife’s main currency is the euro. You can exchange money upon arrival; rubles can be exchanged for euros in Russia.
Flight Moscow-Tenerife is not easy for passengers.

Costa Teguise Golf Club
The golf course was designed in 1978 by the famous British architect Commander John Harris. It enjoys easy access to hotels and restaurants as well as the beach, ocean and local cultural attractions and is only a 20-minute drive from the modern Arrecife International Airport and only 10 minutes from the island’s capital Arrecife.
Unusually, there are no developments around the course, so you can fully enjoy the views of the ocean and volcanoes at almost every hole. The greens and fairways are surrounded by local plants and trees, such as the beautiful Canary Island Date palm, which lends this all-year course a tropical air.
It is a par-72 course which stretches to around 6,700 yards at its longest, which, while not overly long by modern standards, features numerous doglegs which brings all of the golfer’s clubs into play. The “picon” (volcanic sand) and the wind add an extra challenge to the pleasure of playing each hole.
The course also benefits from an excellent clubhouse with a pro-shop, restaurant and coffee bar. A full range of equipment is available for hire from half and full sets of clubs through to golf buggies.

The golf course was not really well maintenance. It is a long course and very challenging, it let down by too much volcanic rock rough and traps which’ll destroy your clubs ( I rent then and they have an iron only for those areas), do not bring your clubs. Even the bunkers are coarse. Not a good holiday experience although clubhouse is well appointed.

Overall experience was really good, got multiple weather seasons in one round of golf which made the course play slightly more difficult especially into wind holes. Booked through TeeTimes.PT and Maria was very helpful in booking my tee time and making sure I had all the correct details. Only thing that I was slightly unhappy about was that I thought I had already paid for the buggy with teetimes however, the course has advised there was no buggy paid for and I had to pay for one there otherwise my pregnant partner would not have been able to come round with me. Despite this I still had a nice time and played not too badly either. Course is in need of some TLC as a lot of the tee boxes are overgrown and some of the fairways are slightly longer. Would return in the future.
Tee Times reply: Thanks Ryan for your comment, that will help other golfers to better evaluate and decide on their experience. Regarding the buggy, we expressly declare in the shopping cart that the buggy in this particular golf course is extra to the green fee.

FrIendly, uncrowrded when we were there (tee off at 9 during school holiday period) Tough greens – great condition but very fast – and a challenging course, but playable even for me off 22. Great views. Would be good if they had more than sandwiches for lunch.

God love this place. No water on the course! I mean like lakes, rivers and the like. But also no drinking water, either, but in November not much of an issue. One bottle will do you.
Very scenic course, if you like sea views, home construction, and lava fields. And volcanoes, of course. Fortunately, none active. Navigable course, fair but long, and if you like windy courses, this is the one for you.
Rental clubs were a bit shabby, but blaming them for poor play isn’t fair. I’ve seen newer golf carts (buggies to the locals) in Cuba. Managed to play the course losing but a single ball, with others replaced by the ones found of equal or greater value.
Best to catch this course on a Tuesday or Friday when the local English speakers play their competitions. Get lucky and pair up with Scott, who bought me 2 beers after the round. Scott originally from Scottland. Best of all, he owns a bar down the road a piece. Excellent weather, except for 30 mph (50 kph) winds.
Nice ladies at the pro shop even called a cab for me to get back to the port. Showed up within 3 minutes and raced like a rally driver to the ship like he was getting a tip for getting there faster.

What is golf | Russian Golf Association
Before choosing clubs, decide what you will practice: pitch-and-putt or golf? When we’re just getting started
play, the final result does not depend on the quality and price of clubs. The rules allow you to have in your bag (if you want – in
bag)
no more than 14 clubs. In the beginning, you will need a half set. For golf: sand-wedge, pitch, irons 9, 7, 5, 3, pater,
woods 1 and 3.
And a good stick to pull the balls out of the water… The rest of the numbers may be needed not earlier than in a year, or even
two.
For pitch-and-putt, an even shorter series is needed: sand-wedge, pitch, pater, irons 9 and 7. Woods will not be useful here.
It is good to acquire clubs, already having an idea about the game, holding a stick in your hands. nine0004
Many clubs offer a “package” for newcomers, which includes, in addition to hours of training with a professional teacher, and
exam, may include a set of clubs that belong to the club and are given to you for use for each lesson.
This is recommended to clubs by many national golf federations, so this should be checked in advance.
opportunities at the club where you plan to take lessons. nine0004
When buying clubs, be sure to try the stroke, try to feel whether it is comfortable for you, and buy only if
she suits you. Agree – it is difficult not to make a mistake without experience.
Have you ever happened to be on a golf course in an ordinary
shoes, or at least make a dozen or two hits on the driving range? If yes, then you probably remember how
then they looked at their favorite pair of shoes with regret, realizing that they had done irreparable damage to it. nine0004
Indeed, golf of any kind is contraindicated without “special training”. Transitions over long distances
(it’s no joke, each 18-hole round is 8 9 km and about 50 golf rounds per year, that is, about 450 km on foot!),
a monstrous twisting load, when the entire weight of the body is concentrated on the left edge of the left boot, the impact
moisture for several hours in a row, sand, thorny bushes, sharp grass stalks – all this is beyond normal
shoe test. nine0004
Actually, the conditions listed above, in which golf shoes are operated, determine the requirements for them.
Only real experts can cope with the task. In this sense, it is highly recommended when choosing a new pair
golf shoes to give preference to specialists in the production of golf shoes, or at least
footwear specialists. If people have been making, for example, glasses all their lives, then why would they suddenly start making excellent
shoes? nine0004
In the world of golf, there are dozens, perhaps thousands, of tools. Accessories, “bells and whistles” promising
instant and permanent improvement of game results, for the acquisition of which golfers are thrown away everywhere
to the wind hundreds and hundreds, expressed in local banknotes. However, de facto nothing has a greater impact on
result than a properly matched golf ball. nine0004
Seemingly the same, golf balls actually have completely different characteristics, designed for players with different
the level of technical proficiency, various degrees of physical and game training. At the same time, perhaps there is no other such
areas in golf where there would be such a huge amount of prejudice regarding the playing qualities of balls, determined by
by outward signs. nine0004
For example, professional balls, which many golfers casually define as soft, are actually harder than the most
“glass”. Meanwhile, at low swing speeds, more “professional” balls steal distance from the players.
Golf bags help you comfortably move all your clubs, golf accessories and balls. Bags for golf clubs “bags”
are spacious enough and have many additional pockets. nine0004
No golfer can get on the course without a golf bag that is designed to be transported to the golf course
clubs, as well as all items, equipment and accessories necessary for a golfer in the game. Bags are made into three large
groups: wearable, transportable and professional.
Carry bags are lighter and have special shoulder straps for carrying and automatic opening
legs. Bags of the second category are usually moved around the golf courses on a cart or on a special machine called
golf carts or buggies. Bags professional have undergone minimal changes over the past couple of hundred years, they
traditionally made of leather according to the patterns of the beginning of the last century. nine0004
Do not think that looking presentable is a sign of luxury and excess. Even while preparing to play with their
comrades, consider that this is a business meeting and requires appropriate clothing.
Many private clubs have branded clothing that usually prescribes the following items:
First. Shirt, especially for golf. If you are unsure about the suitability of the clothing for the game, it is best to
put on a shirt of a well-known company that specializes in making such clothes. nine0060 Second. Shorts will also work, but the shorts must be made specifically for golf. Not sports, short shorts, but long ones,
up to the knees.
Third. It is indecent to wear jeans.
Fourth. Pants and shorts should have belt loops. Lapels, on the contrary, should not be,
because there is dirt.
description, history, rules, equipment
Golf (from English golf ) is a male Olympic sport in which individual participants or teams try to drive a small ball into special holes by hitting clubs. What is important, the ball must be rolled into the hole in fewer strokes.

The history of the emergence and development of golf
The exact date of the origin of golf is not known, but it is believed that it was invented by Scottish shepherds who tried to roll stones into rabbit holes with their staffs. Although many historians disagree, it is believed that golf originated in the Roman Empire and was played with bent sticks and a ball stuffed with feathers. According to other theories, golf appeared in China, during the reign of the Ming Dynasty, this is evidenced by a scroll depicting an emperor who is trying to drive the ball into the hole with something similar to a club.
nine0005
However, modern golf comes from Scotland. The first mention of the game is considered to be the decree of 1457 of King James II of Scotland on the prohibition of golf, as it distracted archers from training. Rules and a system with 18 holes on the field were also invented there.
In 1900, golf was first included in the program of the Olympic Games in Paris (France).
Golf Rules (briefly)
Before starting the game, you must do the following:
nine0005
- Read the local rules of the game.
- Put an identification mark on the ball. This is necessary so that you can identify your ball among the rest. If the ball could not be identified, then it is considered lost.
- Check the number of clubs, it is allowed to have no more than 14 pieces.
The game of golf begins with the starting zone, or as it is also called the “tee” zone. It is so named because of the T-shaped stand on which the ball is placed. Ideally, the player should send the ball into the main zone with the first hit, then overcome it in a few hits and send the ball to the area with perfect grass (“green”). In order to roll the ball into the hole from the green, you need to use a special stick – a putter.
nine0005
In addition to the standard rules, there are rules of etiquette in golf:
- Refrain from playing until the group in front has moved to a safe distance.
- Never delay the game. Empty the putting green immediately after all players in your group have completed the hole.
- Skip forward groups that play faster than you.
- Restore sod.
- Level the tracks in the bunkers.
- Do not carry clubs onto the putting green.
- Insert the flag carefully.
nine0075
Don’t step on another partner’s putting line
Golf course
The golf course must meet a number of requirements, namely, it must consist of a series of holes, each of the holes must have its own starting area. There are two marks on the starting area that show the permissible boundaries of the zone for placing a peg for the ball. In addition to the launch pad, there are: a smooth field, an uneven field and other obstacles on the field.
nine0005
The final part of the site is the hole, which is marked with a flag for ease of orientation. The hole is placed in an area with a minimum height of grass, which is called the “green”. In other areas, the height of the grass fluctuates, this is done in order to make it difficult for players to pass through the site.
As a rule, the holes are located in the line of sight from the starting area to the green. But this is not always the case, if the holes deviate to the left or to the right, then such holes are called “left dogleg” and “right dogleg”, respectively. If the direction curves twice, then the hole is called a “double dogleg”.
nine0005
The courts consist of 18 holes, but there are courses with 9 holes, in this situation they are played twice, which in total is the same 18 holes.
Golf gear and equipment
Let’s start the review of golf equipment with clubs. A player can take no more than 14 clubs with him to the game, each of them is designed to perform a certain stroke. Golf clubs are divided into two types:
-
“Wood” (woods) – sticks designed to make hits at maximum distances, as a rule, these are the first hits. They are called “wood” (from the English “tree”) because of the wooden head, although modern woods are made from metal alloys based on titanium.
nine0076 - “Iron” (irons) – clubs designed to perform strikes at various distances, depending on the position of the ball. Sticks are so named because their head is made of metal.
In addition to the material, clubs differ in the shape of the heads. So for strikes over short distances and with a high trajectory, pitching wedge sticks are used, the angle of inclination for such sticks is 50-60 degrees. If the shot needs to be made from a sand bin, then a sand wedge stick is suitable for this, it has a heavier sole and a special shape. For finishing shots, players use a stick called a “putter”, which is designed specifically for hitting on a flat surface with great accuracy.
nine0005
In the “wood” and “iron” groups, clubs are numbered depending on the angle between the shaft and the face of the head. The lower the number, the longer the potential impact trajectory. The difference in the length of strokes with clubs of neighboring numbers is about 10 meters.
Another important piece of golf equipment is the balls. They must have the following characteristics:
- diameter not less than 4.27 cm,
- weight within 41-46 grams,
-
the surface of the ball should have 300-500 dimples (the more dimples, the higher the ball flies),
nine0076
When considering golf balls, we should mention the “compression” indicator. In simple words, compression is the level of deformation of the ball upon impact. Its conditional value varies from 0 (the ball is strongly deformed upon impact) to 200 (the ball is not deformed upon impact). Most balls have 80-100 compression (compress 2-3mm on impact).
According to the internal structure, the balls can consist of one, two, three or more layers-components. Due to their low cost, single-layer balls are ideal for training beginners.
nine0005
Double layer balls consist of a hard core and a thin hard shell. They combine low cost, durability and range, making them suitable for most golfers.
Three-ply balls are wound with an elastic thread over an elastic or gel-like core. Such balls can be very tightly twisted, sometimes it is very beneficial for athletes.
In four-ply balls, there is an extra layer between the braid and the shell. The potential of such balls can be revealed only by professionals.
nine0005
Golf tournaments
The most prestigious and popular professional tournaments include:
- Olympic Games. Golf was included in the program of the 2016 Olympic Games, before that golf was at the Olympics only 2 times (1900, 1904).

Shopping on Fifth Avenue: Tips PostersFifth Avenue is so beautiful and famous all over the world that even for it alone you can make a flight! How best to walk through the best boutiques – Afisha’s story. For more than a century, New York City’s legendary Fifth Avenue has been synonymous with wealth, privilege and luxury. Today, Afisha will tell its readers the story of the legendary street and give some important and useful tips, with which shopping will not be so scary! Fifth Avenue – the epicenter of beauty and luxury Of course, something has changed since the Great Gatsby: the mansions and private clubs of the Vanderbilts and Carnegies have given way to huge shops and buses full of tourists. However, being the owner of square meters on Fifth Avenue is still very prestigious, and many traditions are still preserved, for example, having afternoon tea at the Plaza hotel , lingering at the Tiffany windows, or making a wish at the Christmas tree in Rockefeller Center. We invite you, during your stay in New York, to stroll through iconic places and see iconic shops, iconic places and attractions of the main Showcase of the World. How to get there Fifth Avenue starts at the northern edge of Washington Square and continues north as far as 143rd Street in Harlem. Shopping Secrets Fifth Avenue is one of the most expensive streets in the world, especially the section between 49th and 59th Streets where the most prestigious stores are located. The number of boutiques on the main shopping street in New York is able to satisfy the most demanding taste. Almost every world-famous fashion brand has opened or dreams of opening a boutique here. Women will enjoy spending several hours, if not all day, shopping in boutiques Louis Vuitton , Prada , Versace , Gucci , Ferragamo and, of course, the famous SAKS FIFTH Avenue (6th Avenue) and Bergdorf Goodman , between West 57th and West 58th St) . Department Store Saks Fifth Avenue is not just a collection of stores under one roof, it is a 10-story giant that occupies an entire block of the city. All world brands are presented here from exquisite Chanel and Louis Vuitton to democratic Juicy Couture and Marc by Marc Jacobs. And it is just as popular among New Yorkers and visitors to the city as it was on its opening day at 1924 year. In the USA there is no concept of tax-free, as such. But in almost all major department stores, you can get a non-resident discount of 11%. A discount card is issued at the tourist office of the department store upon presentation of a passport with a tourist visa stamped in it. By the way, men will also have something to do. Basketball fans should definitely check out the NBA Store (590, 5th Avenue, between 47th and 48th St.) , which sells a complete gentleman’s set, from jerseys to socks, as well as a variety of accessories branded with NBA basketball team logos. , and, of course, the famous Apple Store (767, 5th Avenue) . where you should definitely go, even if you are grown boys and girls, is the toy store FAO Schwartz (767 5th Avenue @ 58th St. ) , from which even serious businessmen come to children’s delight. FAO Schwartz is one of the largest and most expensive toy stores in the world. On several floors, all kinds of dolls, designers, cars and even collectible Teddy bears are presented. You can create a toy yourself or adopt (or maybe adopt?) A cute baby doll, buy a few kilograms of sweets, chewing gum and chocolate. And finally, look into the cafe to take a breath from such a rapid journey to childhood and remember what exactly is here in the movie “Big” Tom Hanks jumped across the keys of a huge piano. Also Museum Mile The section of Fifth Avenue from 82nd Street to 105th Street, known as the Museum Mile. This part of the city is home to a large number of the city’s museums and galleries, including the famous Solomon Guggenheim Museum (88 Street) and the Metropolitan Museum of Art (82 Street). Every year in July, the Museum Mile Festival takes place here, aimed at promoting culture to the masses. During the festival, admission to 10 museums is free. From Bryant Park to United Nations HeadquartersAuthor of the series Tatiana Borodina Photos by Tatiana Borodina, 80002 http://t90bphoto Shopping and Fifth Avenue Looking at New York through the eyes of a shopper, the city can easily be imagined as a gigantic mall. Literally translated, this word means a place for walking, and Americans call it a lot of stores gathered in one place. It’s hard not to agree that in New York shops surround you from all sides and are the same feature and attraction of the city as houses, museums, parks, etc. . Well, let’s devote today’s Walk to shopping and go shopping, but at the same time we will try to pay attention to the sights of the city. Of course, at one time we will not be able to cover the entire spectrum of New York shopping, so we will opt for an area located along the path of our Walks. Moreover, these places are really worthy of attention and interesting in all respects. This time we will choose Fifth Avenue as a guiding thread. This does not mean that we will forget about the interesting places of the area located on parallel streets, but nevertheless, in order not to stray from the route, we will keep in sight this legendary street, which became synonymous with elegance, luxury and style back in the 19th century. Fifth Avenue starts at the Arc de Triomphe at Washington Square, as we covered in the New York Walk 15 , and ends on the banks of the Harlem River at 143rd Street. Like all avenues, Fifth Avenue, crossing the city from south to north, looks very diverse depending on the area through which it passes. However, we must give it its due – for almost the entire length it remains very fashionable, with good shops, restaurants and expensive housing. But this time we have a shopping trip, so let’s pay attention to a certain segment of Fifth Avenue and take the starting point familiar to us from New York Walk 21 skyscraper Empire – C Tate – B Yilding. Macy After admiring the work of domestic masters, let’s study the assortment of American fashion. To get an idea of current trends, let’s start with department stores, which are well-deservedly popular in New York. Lord&Taylor At the intersection of Broadway and 34th Street is Macy’s, the world’s largest department store. For more than 100 years, it has been famous not only for its record sales, but also for the annual Thanksgiving Day parades and grandiose fireworks on Independence Day, which are given by the store owners as a gift to the city. We already talked about this store in Walk 22 (http://elegantnewyork.com/walk-22-around-34-th-street/). From here, just a 15-minute walk north on Fifth Avenue is another department store, Lord & Taylor . We can say that in terms of assortment it is close to Macy’s, but it has its own characteristics and is worthy of spending several hours in it and leaving not disappointed. Further down Fifth Avenue are a number of interesting shops. I will mention one of them because this is the boutique of my favorite American designer Max Azria. It is located on the corner of 40th Street and Fifth Avenue, practically opposite the Central Library and is called BCBG Max Azria . Walking further down Fifth Avenue you will find many good and reasonably priced shops; go to them and decide for yourself which one you like best. After walking a few blocks, we will definitely turn onto 47th Street towards 6th Avenue. This is where Diamond Rows begins. * “Diamond rows” are very interesting for shopping, but in addition they are among the sights of the city. “Rows” covers several blocks between 5th and 6th avenues, very close to Rockefeller Center. The sparkle of diamonds in the windows of more than 100 stores standing in a row one after another fascinates and dazzles the eyes. Here you can buy completely unique items with a stone quality certificate or order a product according to your own sketch. As a rule, no one buys jewelry at the price indicated on the price tag. It is always worth waiting for the “Sale” announcement or just convincingly talking to the store owner about a significant discount, after which a visit to the “Diamond Rows” can decorate not only your trip, but also yourself with a unique purchase. A few blocks from 49th Street between 5th and 6th Avenue is the Rockefeller Center. It is of interest both for lovers of elegant things and for connoisseurs of tourist attractions. The complex consists of 19 buildings, including the central tower – the 70-story GE-Building (house of General Electric) and the famous concert hall “Radio City Music Hall”. From the first performance on 27 December 1932 years at Radio City Music Hall, he delights guests with chic concerts and the world’s most famous professional corps de ballet The Rockettes. All Americans consider it their duty to attend a Christmas performance at Radio City Music Hall at least once in their lives, so for several weeks on the eve of Christmas, the streets near the concert hall are crowded with crowds of people who want to get into it. But now our goal is different: walk along the main avenue of Rockefeller Center, leading from Fifth Avenue to the statue of Prometheus, popularly known as the Golden Boy. Along the alley there are several small fashionable shops, and in the center of the alley there are a number of beautiful flower beds with fountains. A golden sculpture of Prometheus is installed at the foot of the high-rise building of General Electric (GE). The most popular skating rink in New York opens in front of the sculpture in winter, and a pretty cafe in summer. The most famous Christmas tree in the country is set up at the entrance to the GE Tower before Christmas . * The lobby of the GE Tower is decorated with unusual frescoes by José María Serta, be sure to pay attention to them. On the 65th floor there is a famous restaurant and ballroom called “Rainbow Room”, and on the roof there is an observation deck “Top of the Rock” with a very beautiful view of the city; in the underground part there is a scattering of cafes and fashion boutiques. In one of the buildings of Rockefeller Center is the largest auction house Christie’s (20 Rockefeller Plaza). It is worth going into it and asking if pre-sale exhibitions are taking place at the moment. If you pass by, be sure to check it out: it’s no less interesting than visiting a museum, and besides, it’s completely free. Read more about the auction and exhibitions in our materials. Top of the Rock Observation Deck was opened over 70 years ago. In the early 1980s, it was closed for renovations that cost $75 million and lasted over 25 years. After admiring the view of the city from the top of a skyscraper, take a look at the Rainbow Room restaurant. But do not forget that you should be dressed in accordance with the evening dress code. In the evenings, the atmosphere of the glamorous thirties reigns here, and among the guests there are many celebrities and representatives of the most sophisticated New York society. For seven decades, this place has been owned by the famous Italian Cipriani family, known for its chic restaurants around the world. And it was in the “Rainbow Room” that the extravagant American culinary specialist Anthony Bourdain, who became famous for exotic dishes: ants, alligators and black chickens cooked in ether, began his career. In 1932, during the construction of General Electric, which at that time was called the “RSA Building”, an amazing picture was taken – “Lunchtime atop a skyscraper” (Lunchtime atop a skyscraper), which went down in history not only as a unique example the art of photography, but also as an iconic symbol of modern pop culture. In the photo, eleven workers sit on a beam of a building under construction and dine peacefully, legs dangling into the void. And this is not a montage or a staged shot, this is a “genre urban scene” or, if you like, a reportage shot. The famous dinner was held at the level of the sixty-ninth floor, that is, at a height of more than two hundred meters. For the first time, the picture that shocked the whole world appeared on October 2, 1932 years in the New York Herald Tribune Sunday Supplement, and for a long time the name of its author remained unknown. In October 2003, the mystery was solved: according to the results of a multi-month examination conducted by a private detective firm, Charles Clyde Ebbets was recognized as the author of the legendary photograph. And now a little more about how the famous Rockefeller Center appeared in New York. Its history dates back to the late 1920s, when a young businessman, John Rockefeller, leased land from Columbia University. He planned to build an opera and several theaters on it, but the stock market crash of 1929, which went down in history as Black Tuesday, radically changed his plans. Instead of a “city of arts”, Rockefeller decided to create a “city of finance and money”. The grandiose plan of John Rockefeller Jr. seemed to his compatriots very controversial and adventurous: these were the years of the Great Depression, and for the construction it was necessary to take a huge loan, sell most of the oil shares, and also buy land from Columbia University, for which he, in turn, broke the unreasonably high price. But John was adamant: “I clearly saw that I had no workaround – either to completely abandon the construction and burn out, or to invest everything I can in it, and after a while still make a profit.” On May 17, 1930, the largest construction project in the world began: architects, artists and sculptors from different countries were invited to build 14 art deco skyscrapers. Construction was led by John Todd. For the design of buildings and contracts with architectural firms answered Raymond Hood (Raymond Hood), who became famous through his work with John D. Rockefeller. The work was completed only 9 years later, on November 1, 1939, and, as it is now obvious, the project was very successful. In 1932-1934, the largest artist of the American continent, Mexican Diego Rivera, commissioned by Nelson Rockefeller, created a fresco called “Man at the Crossroads” with an area of 99 square meters. meters, which depicted the May Day demonstration in Moscow with the image of Lenin. The customer was extremely dissatisfied with this image (in the fresco, Lenin joins the hands of the workers). For some time this fresco was hidden under a curtain, and in early 1934 it was destroyed by order of the Center’s leadership. The artist was not paid for the work. Rivera subsequently recreated the mural at the Mexico City Opera House. Read the life story of John Rockefeller in our cycle New York in faces. Saks Fifth Avenue Across from Rockefeller Center is the legendary Saks Fifth Avenue department store, a must-see. Although it belongs to the category of rather expensive department stores, it, like everywhere else, has serious sales, and twice a year in July-August and January-February, discounts reach 80%. On the ground floor, eyes widen from the abundance of cosmetics and perfumes from the best brands in the world. On the upper floors you will find clothes from many top designers – Missoni sweaters, dresses from Narcisso Rodriguez, evening wear from Alexander McQueen, Chanel, Gucci and many others. An entire floor of shoes with countless pairs from Manolo Blahnik, Christian Louboutin and more will amaze you with their exquisite variety. A visit to Saks Fifth Avenue can replace not only fashion magazines, but fashion shows as well – all the best of the best is collected here. For a detailed and entertaining history of Saks Fifth Avenue, read A crazy idea for the ages Saks Fifth Avenue The history of Saks began in 1924. It was then that two enterprising and creative young people came up with the idea to create the most prestigious and fashionable trading establishment in the world. Bernard Gimbled and Horace Sachs got down to business thoroughly and quite succeeded – in just a couple of years, the corporation’s income and sales in Saks Fifth Avenue began to break all world records. After at 19In 26, Adam Gimble took over the leadership of the company, the company reached the pinnacle of success, and the CEO himself became a classic example of a talented and outstanding leader of one of the most successful projects of his time. But even the most successful brands have hard times. So, in July 2013, the Saks Fifth Avenue department store chain was sold for $ 2.5 billion to a very reputable Canadian company. This does not mean that the legendary department store will be closed, but the fact that changes are possible in the organization of its business is obvious. St. Patrick’s Cathedral Leaving Saks, don’t miss another important attraction on Fifth Avenue – the next block is the Cathedral of St. This cathedral is one of the outstanding monuments of the neo-Gothic style, and is considered the largest Catholic cathedral built in this style in the United States. Down 9 Fifth Avenue0007 the concentration of boutiques of world fashion brands is off scale. They are located “shoulder to shoulder” – the head is spinning from the star names of Gucci, Hugo Boss, Chanel, St John, Giorgio Armani, Fendi, Bottega Veneta, Just Cavalli, Henri Bendel , Botticelli Shoes, Michael Kors, Juicy Couture. * But that’s not all – turn the corner on 57th Street and continue the list: Miu Miu, Louis Vuitton, Coach, Christian Dior, Prada, Brioni , Burberry, Dana Buchman, Christian Lacroix, Yves St Laurent. Why the words – the names speak for themselves. But these stores don’t have frequent sales, and New Yorkers shop there quite infrequently. However, the shops are not deserted: if you take into account the dollar against the euro, then the price of clothes in them is much lower than, say, in Paris or Milan. So we’ve arrived at the city’s most expensive shopping intersection: Fifth Avenue and 57th Street. Its corners are decorated with legendary names: Tiffany, a multi-storey jewelry store; boutique Louis Vinton; Bergdorf Goodman – a huge department store; Bullgary is a prestigious jewelry and accessories store. 5th Ave and 57th Street Bergdorf Goodman is New York’s most luxurious department store, founded in 1928 and has never ceased to amaze with luxury goods and excellent service. Furs, evening dresses, clothing from leading European and American fashion designers, exclusive jewelry and accessories. Here you can visit the famous beauty salon in the city, an elegant SPA and a charming restaurant on the top floor. In addition, the department store is famous for its shop windows. Once upon a time, Salvador Dali made his debut in New York, decorating the windows of this particular store. And now, according to tradition, the most famous masters create enchanting scenes in the windows of this palace of exquisite temptations. * Bloomingdale’s department store, located at Lexington Avenue and 59th Street, is a worthy end to the golden trade route. The store, or rather, a small fashion boutique, was founded in 1870, and already in 1886 it turned into a large department store, located in a huge room, which it still occupies today. Bloomingdales, although a rather expensive department store, is one of the most beloved among the residents of the city. Here you can find everything you need, from the clothes of the world’s best designers to high-quality elegant furniture. The successful layout of the department store and thoughtful selection of collections make shopping in it pleasant and relaxed. On the 4th floor there is the service At your service, where you will be advised on the subject of purchases and will be provided with a guide to the store. The Plaza Hotel Trump Tower, 721 Fifth Avenue And now, for a moment, back at the Most Expensive Intersection and walk along Fifth Avenue a few more blocks to Central Park. Just behind the Bergdorf Goodman department store is one of the famous hotels – “The Plaza Hotel” , which occupies a 19-story building with a height of 76 m in the western part of the Grand Army Plaza. A few years ago, the hotel changed hands and underwent a $400 million renovation. The hotel was first opened at 1907 and immediately became very popular. Who has not lived in it for the last 100 years: The Beatles, Frank Lloyd Wright stayed here, the famous photo session with Marilyn Monroe took place. The ballroom hosted the wedding of Richard Nixon’s daughter and the most famous black-and-white ball, organized in 1966 by Truman Capote, author of Breakfast at Tiffany’s. For many years, the annual balls of the Russian Nobility Assembly were held in the Plaza. The hotel has been the filming location for numerous films including North by Northwest (Bypass), Barefoot in the Park, Crocodile Dundee and Home Alone 2. The owners of the hotel included Conrad Hilton and Donald Trump. The current owner of The Plaza is Elad Property s. The cost of rooms here is from US$1000 per night. A new Champagne Bar has recently appeared in the hotel lobby, where guests are offered cocktails, champagne ($25-60 per glass) and wine costing up to $3350 per bottle. After the renovation, half of the hotel rooms were transformed into apartments, which were successfully sold, and the best of them were purchased by Russians. If you cross the square in front of the hotel and go to the opposite side of Fifth Avenue, you will find yourself next to a huge glass cube on the facade of which flaunts the most famous apple in the world – the main New York Apple Store – Mecca of all tourists coming to the city of the Big Apple. * One of the 10 must-dos in New York is walking and shopping, however small, on Fifth Avenue. La palma island volcano: A Changed Landscape on La PalmaLa Palma Island Volcanic Eruption Sends Lava Flowing to Residential Buildings | Smart News Some experts suspect that the lava’s heat at a scorching 1,800 degrees could trigger landslides or explosions and release toxic gases when it reaches the ocean and collides with the ocean water.
On September 19, the Cumbre Vieja volcano on Spain’s La Palma Island exploded into a fury of red plumes and smoke that spewed lava 14,000 feet into the air, Renata Brito and Barry Hatton report or the Associated Press. The volcano’s eruption is the first in 50 years in the Canary archipelago located off the northwestern coast of Africa, Raphael Minder reports for the New York Times. The stream-like lava flow engulfed nearby forests and homes, forcing 5,000 locals and 500 tourists to evacuate, Scott Neuman reports for NPR. The eruption followed a week of seismic activity where more than 22,000 tremors were reported, per Borja Suarez for Reuters. “When the volcano erupted today, I was scared. For journalists, it is something spectacular, for us, it is a tragedy. I think the lava has reached some relatives’ houses,” Isabel Fuentes, a resident told Spanish television TVE, Reuters reports. “I was five years old when the volcano last erupted (in 1971). You never get over a volcanic eruption.” La Palma is the smallest of the Canary Islands in the Atlantic Ocean. Just before the eruption, a 3.8 magnitude earthquake shook the island, reports the New York Times. Since the volcano’s eruption, streams of lava from five fissures on the side of the volcano continued to spill out. On the first day following the eruption, lava was moving at a whopping 2,300 feet per hour, reports the Associated Press. One 2,000-foot-wide lava stream finally slowed to 13 feet per hour after reaching a plain on Wednesday, per AP.

Europa Press News/Getty Images By Thursday, September 23, the lava flow’s advancement slowed, along with the seismic activity, but molten rock was still spewing from the volcano, per the Associated Press. Nearly 26 million cubic meters of molten rock have been emitted so far. Some experts suspect that the lava’s heat at a scorching 1,800 degrees could trigger landslides or explosions and release toxic gases when it reaches the ocean and collides with the water, reports Tereza Pultarova for Space.com. “The lava is advancing very slowly because it cools in contact with the atmosphere, through friction with the ground and building materials and, above all, because its front edge is widening out,” explains Starvos Meletlidis, a volcanologist with Spain’s National Geographic Institute, to the Associated Press. In some places, as the lava flow slowed and grew thicker, it rose to 50 feet high. In total, the lava has covered 410 acres and destroyed roughly 350 homes. Scientists suspect the flows could last a few weeks or months. Also known as the Old Summit, Cumbre Vieja’s last eruption persisted for three weeks, reports Nicoletta Lanese for Live Science. Multiple videos of the lava flowing into the nearby village of El Paso have been shared on social media platforms. In some videos, homes were seen engulfed by lava, including one that shows molten rock spilling into a swimming pool. About 400 firefighters and emergency workers have been sent from other islands in the Canary archipelago to assist with any fires caused by the lava flows, reports Al Goodman and Vasco Cotovio for CNN. Recommended Videos La Palma islanders slowly rebuild lives after volcano destroys homesThousands of people who lost their homes – and a lifetime of memories – as the lava and ash from a volcano eruption on the Spanish island of La Palma engulfed their houses, are slowly starting to rebuild their lives, or at least trying. Roselio Gonzalez was amongst those whose home was gone after the eruption. Now, the 49-year-old truck driver and his extended family are dispersed across the island in temporary housing but he is determined to rebuild his life. “We can’t long for what no longer exists. We have to go forward,” Gonzalez said, standing in front of a police post that blocks entry to the eruption exclusion zone where his home lies. He is one of the roughly 7,000 people living away from their homes since the Cumbre Vieja volcano erupted on Sept. 19, spewing rivers of molten rock and sending ash plumes containing toxic gases into the air. Gonzalez had initially been allowed to return to his house, just 600 meters (1,970 feet) from the volcano, to collect pills for his mother and family photos. The volcano in the Canary Islands off northwest Africa fell silent on Monday evening and scientists are cautiously optimistic that after three months of explosions and earthquakes, the eruption may be ending. “Let’s hope,” said Gonzalez who now lives with his partner at her mother’s home. Gonzalez and his former neighbors have set up an association to help rebuild the island – “a marathon” which he predicts will take at least a decade. No injuries or deaths have been directly linked to the eruption on the island of around 83,000 people but the lava flow has destroyed 1,345 homes, mainly on the western side of La Palma. ‘There is mourning’ “There is mourning because if you lose your house it is like losing a relative,” said Estefania Martin, a psychologist who counsels victims at a center in the western town of Los Llanos de Aridane. Pedro Noel Perez, a 44-year-old health care worker and musician, said his family’s home of 48 years and “half” of his neighborhood “no longer exists.” “I no longer have those neighbors but I will always have them here,” he added, placing his hand over his heart. Many of his former neighbors were on hand to see him sing during a recent small concert in Los Llanos, which is slowly recovering its usual rhythm. Perez said he only recently got back his desire to rehearse after weeks of disrupted sleep due to the constant roar of the volcano. “Taking sleeping pills, using earplugs, it undermines morale,” he said. The slow-moving lava has covered over 1,200 hectares (about 3,000 acres) of land as it made its way to the Atlantic, much of it banana plantations, the island’s main livelihood along with tourism. “In the short term it is our complete ruin,” said 50-year-old banana farmer Victor Manuel as he traveled on a navy ship taking people to plantations and businesses now inaccessible by road. “I may have to leave and look for something else on another island, because public institutions are not providing solutions, and I have to save myself and my family,” he added. ‘I have no hope’ As the ship docked at the picturesque beach of Puerto Naos – now covered in black ash – Pedro Javier Martin pointed to the restaurant and home he was forced to abandon when the volcano erupted. “I have no hope… we are ruined,” the 65-year-old said. “This animal should stop now,” he added, referring to the volcano. The volcanic eruption – the longest on La Palma since records started being kept in the 16th century – has caused at least 842 million euros ($949 million) in damage, according to the regional government.
