- Restaurante Mayte – The place to go for paella (Spanish rice). This is a family run restaurant and you will absolutely love the hostess. An older woman who will make sure you leave not only full but as if you just ate at your gramas. Simply perfection!
- Suka Fruit & Salad – Hands down my favorite vegan friendly restaurant on Fanabe beach. I highly recommend for breakfast as their menu offers items with fresh fruit and organic ingredients.

Fog trail among plant Treasures of Tenerife
The path that connects Cruz del Carmen and Punta del Hidalgo consists of three sections, where the traveler will get acquainted with the different types of vegetation of the Anaga Rural Park, located in the northern part of the island of Tenerife. On the first leg of the journey, from Cruz del Carmen to Las Carboneras, you will see laurel forests, then small farmlands begin and continue to the Chinamada area. The last section of the route is a descent to the coast of Punta del Hidalgo, dominated by bushes.
Path leading from the mountain top to the beach
Ten kilometers long, with a maximum level difference of 916 meters, this route is of medium difficulty and is a combination of a trail, forest paths and several sections of the trail. Its passage will take about four hours. Don’t forget the equipment and comfortable shoes you need to get down to the coast. Also bring food and drink with you. If you have a camera with you, you can take amazing pictures of the landscapes of the La Laguna valley, and at the Aguaide lookout you will see panoramic views of the coast of Anaga.

Cruz del Carmen – Punta del Hidalgo, Tenerife
A large clearing, which now houses parking and various infrastructure facilities, is located at the intersection of many roads. Previously, there was a cross dedicated to Our Lady of Carmel, the patroness of travelers. At the end of the 19th century, a local forester decided to reward anyone who brought a stone here with a bundle of firewood. Thus, material was collected for the construction of a chapel at the Cruz del Carmen crossroads.
Before starting the descent, it is worth going to the observation deck, which offers one of the best views of the La Laguna valley.

del Carmen, located at the top. The importance of this fork is emphasized by the cross erected here, indicating that many people passed through here.
After the pass with stairs, one of the most difficult sections of the route begins, very steep, but, fortunately, very short.

Cruz del Carmen – Punta del Hidalgo, Tenerife
This settlement in the middle of the road is a vivid example of cave dwellings preserved in Anaga. Most of them are dug in tuff, because there was not enough flat land for agriculture and people had to huddle along the edges so as not to occupy a single meter of fertile soil. Most dwellings are concentrated around the rock.
Before continuing the descent, you can go to the viewpoint of Aguaide with an impressive view of Punta del Hidalgo and the entire northern coast of Anaga.
A little further along the path in the middle of the gorge, you can see a majestic rock, which is the mouth of a volcano made of phonolitic lava, which is distinguished by a light shade. This is the cliff of Los Pinos, on which you can see a grove of Canarian pine, unique in that this tree usually grows above the level on which the park is located. On this rock, there is also a plant endemic to the park – rockrose (Cistus chinamadensis) .

Dos Hermanos. N 28 34 123 // W 016 18 199
Cruz del Carmen – Punta del Hidalgo, Tenerife
This magnificent rock is the symbol of Punta del Hidalgo. Its name (“Two brothers”) is associated with the legend of the indigenous people, the Guanches. Two young brothers, who had forbidden love for each other, climbed a rock under the cover of night and threw themselves from it into the abyss. From grief and pain, the mountain split in two with a groan.

La Fajana well. N 28 34 225 // W 016 18 829
Cruz del Carmen – Punta del Hidalgo, Tenerife
The buildings on the side of the gorge belong to the La Fajana well, the water of which was used to irrigate the agricultural land of Punta del Hidalgo. The main building contains old equipment of high value, but now it can not be seen. The well is actually a water tunnel that leads inside the gorge, collecting fresh water and preventing salt water from the ocean from entering.

Viewpoint of La Punta. N 27 44 534 // W 017 59 270
Cruz del Carmen – Punta del Hidalgo, Tenerife
The route ends at the tourist information center on the observation deck overlooking the coast and the Anaga massif, from which we descended. A monument to one of the greatest representatives of Canarian folk music, Sebastian Ramos, nicknamed El Puntero, testifies to the fact that this city is the cradle of the folklore tradition.
If you continue towards the sea, you can swim in the natural pools of the coast and see one of the most interesting seaside landscapes of the island. There is also a bus stop at the end of the route.

Russian tourists have started burying their euro cash in the forest on the border Holiday villages tenerife: Landmar Hotels | Tus vacaciones en Tenerife SurHoliday Village Tenerife – Playa De La Arena, TenerifeHoliday Village Tenerife – Playa De La Arena, Tenerife – TUI/First Choice
About The Holiday Village TenerifeThe Landmar Costa Los Gigantes (previously known as the TUI Holiday Village Tenerife and Be Live Costa Los Gigantes), is a family friendly, all inclusive resort in the Los Gigantes/Playa de la Arena area of Tenerife’s popular western coast. Set atop a hillside location between Playa de la Arena and Playa de Santiago beaches, the resort enjoys stunning views, with a whole host of facilities and activities on offer to keep the whole family entertained, including kids clubs (split into the HV Club and HV Crew), evening entertainment, as well as water slides, gym and much more. Plus ree WiFi is included throughout the hotel. Whether it’s spending time in one of the six swimming pools, trying your hand at the high ropes, chilling out on a balinese bed, or enjoying delicious food at one of the hotel’s two restaurants, you’ll want to come back on holiday here time and time again. Being an all inclusive hotel, you might not want to venture out, but if you do, there’s loads of places to see and enjoy, including exploring the area of Los Gigantes or heading to Costa Adeje and to Siam Park for some waterpark fun and the chance to try your hand at a scary water slide or two. During the summer, between May and October, the hotel is sold as TUI’s Holiday Village brand, while during the winter months, between November and April, when the weather is a little cooler but still plenty of sunshine, it is now sold as Landmar Costa Los Gigantes, part of the Landmar Hotels chain. So you can book the all inclusive hotel with other holiday companies like On The Beach and Jet2 Holidays to Tenerife, as the Landmar Costa Los Gigantes. We’ve also summarised the latest reviews below to help you get a quick feel for comments made by holidaymakers who rate the hotel ‘very good’ according to Trip Advisor reviews. Latest holiday offersNow known by it’s other name, the Landmar Costa Los Gigantes, the Holiday Village Tenerife can be booked as part of an all inclusive package holiday with TUI, or as hotel only in the winter through popular websites like Booking.com and Love Holidays. The best prices can be found by shopping around, but it’s worth considering that by booking your flight and hotel together with a brand that is ATOL or ABTA protected, you have much better financial security. HV Tenerife may also be included in several Free Child Places offers so make sure you check out what deals are on offer before booking. Holiday prices can vary by the time of year. Booking early can lead to some discounts, while last minute deals may also provide you with a fantastic bargain. BOOK NOW Room TypesRooms at the hotel are modern and there are three room types at the resort which are sold as part of the Landmar Costa Los Gigantes (Holiday Village) package. While the basic suites are comfortable and affordable, the Family Suite Better Together rooms keep the kids front of mind with extra in room facilities and amenities to help the holiday go smoothly. A room upgrade can be made at the time of booking for an additional charge or may be possible on arrival at a cost. It’s worth noting that interconnecting rooms are not available here, however, the Better Together rooms are a great family friendly option. Late check out may be available at an additional cost and is dependent on room availability on the day. If you are interested in having a late check out, speak to the hotel on arrival to see if it’s possibile.

These Superior upgrades enjoy a more modern decoration and have a restricted sea view from the terrace or balcony. Book Now
In-hotel facilitiesThe hotel offers all the facilities you’ll need while you’re on holiday. Here are just a few of the more popular ones:
As with all Holiday Village resorts, Tenerife offers plenty of facilities for the whole family including a kids club, from the little ones up to teenagers, and adults too. To start with, there are three outdoor swimming pools (a livelier activity pool, a water slide pool and a quiet pool with bali beds, which are salt water pools and we believe one of which is heated), as well as two splash pools for babies. There is also an indoor pool, which is part of the relaxing spa circuit and costs a little extra (payable locally), and is perfect for those cooler days when you need a warmer pool. The spa itself features a number of relaxing facilities, including hammam and Finnish sauna, whirlpool and hydrotherapy pool, and the gym is perfect for those who like to keep fit and active while on holiday. Beauty spa treatments can also be booked during your stay. While the spa caters for grown ups, there is plenty to keep the kids busy, with a huge range of activities. The swim, stage and football academy are sure to help improve the children’s skills (the swim academy is a favourite), although this isn’t included in the all inclusive offer and is at an additional cost. There’s also a multi-sports court, games room with pool tables and arcade machines, mini-golf, and a fantastically fun high ropes aerial adventure course. EntertainmentFrom the in-resort creche to the endless activities that the fantastic entertainment team put on, there’s loads to enjoy and experience here. As with all Holiday Villages, the kids clubs are split into two with a wide range of activities put on for them to enjoy and make new friends, whether that’s around the activity pool, in the clubs, or the games room. And when evening comes around, there’s live music, a mini-disco, plus six bars to enjoy, including one that is ideal for a sunset drink. Day passes for the entertainment and use of facilities are not available for guests staying at other hotels. Food & DrinkEnjoy all inclusive and have all your meals and local drinks included in the cost of your holiday and premium drinks packages may be available for an additional charge. Food at the hotel is varied to cater for all tastes and dietary requirements. If you do need anything specific such as gluten free, speak to hotel staff when you arrive and in the restaurant who can advise accordingly. There are two restaurants and a snack bar at the hotel so you definitely won’t go hungry:
Meal times at the buffet restaurant are from 7:30am – 10:30am for breakfast and 6:30pm – 9:30pm for dinner. Things to DoLos Gigantes/Playa de la Arena is a small resort but there is still plenty of things to do near the resort. Make sure you take a wonder out and try some of the local bars and restaurants, as well as heading to the beach too. Or even venture down to Costa Adeje if you have a car to see more of Tenerife. Shops NearbyThere are a few shops near the Holiday Village in the main town of Playa Arena, such as pharmacies, clothing and beach shops, and supermarkets, as well as car hire places too. The hotel is all inclusive, but there is a large Mercadona supermarket just 5 minutes walk from the hotel. BeachThe nearest beach, Playa de la Arena, is about a 15 minute walk away and is one of the largest in the area. As with many of Tenerife’s beaches, Playa de la Arena, and nearby Playa de Santiago, are black sand beaches, both of which are close to a range of shops, cafes, restaurants and bars, and the all important ice cream parlour. ExcursionsIf booking your package holiday with TUI or First Choice, excursions aren’t included in the all-inclusive package but it may be possible to add pre-departure for an additional cost. If you’ve booked hotel only, or with another holiday company, you can organise excursions once you arrive at the hotel. There are plenty of excursions to enjoy in Tenerife, from a fun-filled day at Siam Park or a boat trip to go whale and dolphin watching, to a more cultural experience, trying local cuisine, or discovering one of Tenerife’s hidden gems. Simply speak to the in-resort reps when you arrive to organise. Villages and towns of Tenerife: Exploring outside the main holiday hot spots
Anyone who has visited Tenerife will be aware of the holiday hot spots and popular resort areas such as Los Cristianos, Costa Adeje and Playa de las Americas, but when you travel, you need to step outside of the regular and acquaint yourself within the lesser-known towns and villages that make up an all-round picture of the place you are visiting.
Tenerife has pretty towns, quaint villages, glorious coastlines, natural parks and landmarks galore as well as luxury hotels, elegant restaurants, local eateries and spa experiences to enjoy throughout any stay. Here, we take a look at some of the lesser-known hot spots of Tenerife that you should head to on your next visit.
Masca
The location of Masca is truly unique
Masca is one of Tenerife’s most beautiful villages set in a superb mountainous location, in the Teno Mountains on the western side of the island. Its location is stunning and because it is quite difficult to get to on a road full of tight hairpin bends, it had been relatively undiscovered until recent years. Indeed, there wasn’t a road at all before 1991, which resulted in Masca being known as the ‘forgotten village’.
The Rural Park of Teno is where one can find the deepest ravines of the island. Here, surrounded by amazing escarpments, lies Masca. This picturesque and tiny village, which has been declared an area of ethnographical and architectural interest, is one of the best examples of the Canary Island’s natural architecture.
The cottages in Masca are all lined up along the mountain ridges and take up almost every inch of space, balancing on the edge of the abyss created by the ravines. The Cherfe lookout point (on the road from Santiago del Teide) provides fantastic views over the village.
This has always been a narrow and remote place, which was only very recently supplied with electricity, and where the roads were barely more than dusty tracks up until not long ago. In fact, for years the only means of communication with the rest of the world was the trail of Camino de los Guanches, linking Masca to Santiago del Teide. But that remoteness is precisely what has allowed it to keep its ancient charm.
Despite its small size, the area boasts a collection of valuable treasures such as the house of Los Avinculados in the hamlet of Piedra, and a tiny 18th century church. It even has a museum and a craft centre that have been set up inside one of the houses. The village is one of Teno Country Park’s most charming attractions as it comprises all of the elements that make traditional Canarian architecture so unmistakable – masonry and wood, conceptual simplicity and full adaptation to surroundings.
Buenavista del Norte
Buenavista del Norte was founded in the 16th century and is without doubt one of the most scenic parts of the Island
Buenavista del Norte stands on the most north-westerly point of the island with its lighthouse marking the end of Tenerife, looking out over its spectacular crystal-clear waters. The municipality houses plenty of beautiful and highly valuable buildings within its landscapes and countryside, which are among the most remote and untouched on Tenerife.
Buenavista del Norte, which was founded in the 16th century and is a proud preserver of its traditions, is without doubt one of the most scenic parts of the Island and a wonderful place to live, as its more than 5,000 inhabitants will vouch for. The town has plenty of unquestionable appeal, with its charming streets, its coast dotted with bays and its environmentally friendly leisure activities to partake in.
80% of the municipality’s land belongs to different protected nature areas. One of the most noteworthy is Teno Country Park, a natural monument covering some 7,500 hectares (18,500 acres) of stunning rural and marine landscapes, with spectacular mountains and ravines. The Los Gigantes Cliffs, standing 300 to 600m (985 to 1,970 ft) tall, plunge straight into the sea beside the Masca ravine. Following this somewhat tortuous ravine inland you will come to the village of Masca, as highlighted above.
The last significant occurrence in the history of Buenavista took place in 1996 when the Church of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios was destroyed by a huge fire, sending much of its artistic-historic heritage up in flames. The building has since been restored.
The cliffs of Los Gigantes are a highlight for any visitor
Places of interest:
Plaza de los Remedios
Right in the heart of the historic quarter, this square is the municipality’s social meeting point par excellence and is one of its most beautiful spots. Surrounded by great pieces of traditional Canarian architecture, its buildings now house the town’s most important institutions. The square was paved in the mid-20th century and has a lovely pavilion in the middle for musical performances.
Punta de Teno
Punta de Teno is the westerly-most tip of Tenerife, meaning it has the longest daylight hours. The lighthouse affords views of the north coast of Tenerife and the cliffs of Los Gigantes in the west of the Island. Punta de Teno lies within the protected area of Teno Country Park, one of the Island’s most important nature areas.

Located in the town’s historic quarter, the monastery significantly represents the architectural style of the Franciscan Order’s buildings in the Canaries. It is draped in a mysterious and enigmatic atmosphere that transports visitors to the world of religion and seclusion that such constructions inspire. Prominent in architectural terms are the columns flanking the doorway and the triangular pediment bearing the Franciscan emblem.
Triana Ravine
This ravine is the green lung of the municipality’s historic quarter. You can get there from Plaza de los Remedios or from the neighbourhood of Triana, leaving from Triana school. The historical relevance of the ravine dates back to the time when the town was founded. A number of Andalusians were involved in its founding, which is why the ravine was named Triana, due to its similarity with the Guadalquivir river that runs through Seville. Water flowed through the ravine for centuries, leading the Triana Ravine wash basins to be made, which constituted an important social meeting place in the past.
Garachico
Garachio has an exciting history
Garachico is a living legend: who said it’s impossible to be reborn from the ashes? When the Trevejo volcano erupted in 1706 it destroyed almost the entire town, but what that meant was an opportunity to rebuild it even more beautiful and charming than before.
After the conquest of Tenerife, Garachico became the main fishing and trade port on the island until it was destroyed by the volcanic eruption. This golden age drew many highly influential families to settle here, which is apparent from the wealthy layout of its streets and buildings. Its cobbled streets invite visitors to explore the heart of the town, its churches and its historic buildings.
Garachico lies in the north-east of Tenerife in the region of Icod-Daute-Isla Baja, covering 29.28 km2 (11.3 sq miles). At least half of that area is covered with Canarian pine trees, volcanic scenery and an ancient cliff that separates the historic quarter from the hills. Garachico has a wealth of architectural heritage from the 16th and 17th century which has been kept in wonderful condition, leading it to be declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 1994. It was also granted the status of ‘Villa’ (which is a rough equivalent to the British status of borough) and Port by King Alfonso XIII in 1916.
On the coast of the municipality there are several vast estates with banana groves, whilst the farmland on the hillsides was mainly used to supply the families who farmed it. The town also has a recently built marina by the historic quarter, as well as a series of beaches made of pebbles and black sand, and various cliff faces. Special mention should be made of the natural swimming pools of El Caletón, one of the most popular bathing areas, as well as the impressive rock formation rising from the sea in front of them.
Places of interest:
El Caletón – Natural swimming pool in northern Tenerife
The last eruption of the Trevejo volcano in 1706 buried much of the town of Garachico and as the lava reached the sea it formed the natural swimming pools we see today, which are one of the municipality’s major attractions. The shapes that nature has created at El Caletón are fondly treasured by locals and tourists who flock here, especially in summer. The swimming pools are suitable for everyone and their waters are usually calm but watch out for the waves as the sea there can be quite rough. After a good soak, don’t miss the chance to sample some Canarian gastronomy at one of the local restaurants that specialise in seafood.
El Guincho lookout point
Looking left from this viewpoint, you will get a wide panoramic view of the town of Garachico and its precipitous coast, the rock formations of El Roque and the cliffs of El Guincho, not to mention the new marina and fishing port. Looking right, your eyes will rest on old, abandoned farm terraces that call to mind the area’s farming tradition. The views over this lovely seaside spot are quite charming.
Las Aguas Beach
If you are in search of a place to relax and unwind, this beach made of sand and shingle is ideal. Located next to the new marina of Garachico, from here you will see the bright colours and the comings and goings of its vessels, fishing boats and luxury yachts. This is the first beach you will come to when you reach the municipality, and it tends not to get too busy. The waves are usually quite gentle but take care in case the sea gets rough. A trip into the centre of Garachico is worthwhile in order to wander through the history-steeped streets of this town that was founded in the late 15th century.
El Muelle Beach
This beach is particularly stunning because of the lovely setting in which it lies. If you are lucky enough to make it for the Garachico celebrations, you will find the whole beach decorated with colourful flags. The bay is right in the middle of the fishing port and much of the dock is used for swimming. You won’t have to worry about the waves thanks to its strategic location. This small beach has a lifeguard and a watch post, dressing rooms and showers. Don’t miss the chance to have a walk around the streets of the town of Garachico.
Taganana
Taganana is a disperse little village inside Anaga Country Park
Taganana is a disperse little village inside Anaga Country Park where the white walls of the houses stand out brightly amidst the deep green mountains. It is surrounded by virgin beaches and rock formations rising out of the sea just off the coast, with a mysterious, yet magical, air about them. A lovely panoramic photograph can be taken from the lookout point at El Bailadero.
Taganana is reached from Santa Cruz along a windy road, or alternatively from La Laguna through the laurel forests. The village is still true to the island’s traditional customs and architecture, which includes pieces such as the church of Nuestra Señora de las Nieves, one of the oldest in Tenerife. Those who visit the church enjoy taking pictures of its famous triptych painted in the 16th century Flamenco style.
There are a number of hamlets near Taganana, so you can continue your tour along the coast towards Roque de las Bodegas along a pretty little beach. You will then come to Almáciga, a small hamlet with a long-standing farming tradition and a little chapel devoted to Nuestra Señora de Begoña, as well as its beach with large waves making it a paradise for surfers.
History has it that in the mid-20th century, a group of pilgrims from Bilbao in northern Spain threw a bottle into the sea bearing a picture of the virgin as they sailed towards Santiago de Compostela. Eight months later, the bottle was washed up on the shores of Almáciga, where the locals responded to the message. As a gift, they received a statue of the Virgin of Begoña and made her their patron saint.
After Almáciga you can take the trail from there towards other local hamlets. Benijo, for instance, is home to roughly two dozen inhabitants and there are records of its existence as early as 1536, when the first houses, shacks, wine cellars and even a winery were built. It once housed a chapel devoted to Santiago Apóstol dating from 1630, which unfortunately collapsed a century later and was never rebuilt. Today, you will find a number of restaurants serving Canarian cuisine that make it a great stop for replenishment.
Nearby are the hamlets of El Draguillo and Las Palmas de Anaga, with wonderful elements of traditional Canarian architecture, namely the houses of Casas Principales and the adjacent chapel of San Gonzalo. This 17th century edifice features wonderful, coffered ceilings, though they are in a slight state of disrepair.
The Anaga mountain range houses a great many more little settlements dotted all around. The hamlet of Chamorga has a population of less than 100 people, which is what creates much of its charm as visitors will rightfully feel like they have come to a delightfully remote location, away from the modern world. Adding to that feeling are its pretty, distinctive little houses. Further along the way is Roque Bermejo with its beach and you can also go on to explore the nearby hamlets of Roque Negro, Afur and Taborno.
Los Silos
Los Silos is home to several gems such as the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Luz and the former Bernadine convent of San Sebastián
A visit to Los Silos is a gift of peace and relaxation. It is as equally enjoyable to take a stroll along the seafront, which is full of lovely bathing spots as it is to wander through the countryside on one of the many trails. The town itself is home to several gems such as the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Luz and the former Bernadine convent of San Sebastián.
Places of interest:
Plaza de La Luz
This square was historically the heart of Los Silos and the area’s most important buildings were erected around it. In 1923, the square was revamped to include a bandstand in the middle, an outer wall and symmetrical flowerbeds.
The Chapel of El Calvario
This chapel in Los Silos stands out for its Neo-Gothic enclosure, dating from the 20th century, and the triangular gable end over the doorway.
The Parish Church of Nuestra Señora de La Luz
The parish church was built where the municipality’s first chapel used to stand and dates from the late 16th century. It was refurbished in the 20th century by architect Mariano Estanga, and although the original stone façade was preserved, a Neo-Gothic façade was placed over it with a bell tower in the middle. The church contains works such as a figure of Cristo de la Misericordia, which is believed to have been made by the Andalusian Juan de Mesa; a mid-17th century figure of El Señor de la Humildad y la Paciencia and another of Virgen de la Luz, which, legend has it, was found on the coast by a Portuguese fisherman.

Travel Advice -Tenerife Holiday – An Escape to Summer
Tenerife is one of the most popular destinations British travellers visit, according to TripAdvisor.
As a result of this, there are many connotations attached to Tenerife and what tourists expect when visiting. Essentially, that Tenerife is a beach tourist trap for Brit’s.
Rachel, a lovely Brit who tends to steer away from your typical Brit destinations for said reason said it best, “This is what lockdown does to us. Saying yes to Tenerife.”
While I have visited destinations categorized under “Popular British Traveler Destinations” in the past, this certainly felt a bit different since everyone I met was warning the avid traveler that I am about Tenerife.
While yes, you can most certainly find yourself in a tourist trap and surrounded by Brit’s if you wish to do so in Tenerife. Visiting Tenerife helped me debunk the many misconceptions my travel friends and I had about Tenerife such as…
MYTH | FACT |
You will only find Irish/British restaurants. | There are plenty of restaurant options including delicious vegan restaurants, Italian eateries and of course, Spanish tapas spots. |
Only Brit’s Visit Tenerife. | French and Italian tourists are also beginning to visit Tenerife making Tenerife a more global travel destination. |
All people do is go to the beach, visit the various amusement parks and get drunk. | There are more activities available including touring the National parks, basking in the natural pools, partaking in water sports, whale watching or exploring the different towns in the island. |
All in all, to say, that I am glad that we said yes to Tenerife and discovered for ourselves how amazing this island is.
Use this quick and easy guide on Tenerife to discover where to go, what to do and the best places to eat in Tenerife.
Tenerife Travel Tips
Language – Spanish is the native language but since Tenerife is visited by many English tourists, speaking English is perfectly acceptable. (Of course, if you do speak Spanish or learning Spanish then using it in Tenerife will go a long way with locals. )
Currency – The Euro is the currency used here, and you are able to use your debit or credit card in Tenerife without a problem.
Length Of Stay – Since Tenerife is a place to relax but with plenty of activities, I would recommend 4-5 days. The perfect amount to slow down but have time to still explore the island.
Check The Bill – Many restaurants, especially in Costa Adeje, Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos, have cheap deals advertised but once you get the bill, you’ll see extra charges such as the bread/sauces they placed on your table without you asking. Our group found that even fancy eateries practice this in Costa Adeje. To play it safe, if something is brought out that you did not order, be sure to ask if this is complimentary before indulging or risk having to pay for this once the bill comes out.
Flyers – You will often find flyers offering cheap excursions, especially in the bigger resorts. Don’t go on these. They sound like a good deal but often include a timeshare pitch or another long sales presentation.
Where To Eat
Must Do Activities
1. Visit Teide National Park
Tenerife offers unique ways to experience the island’s biggest attraction; Mount Teide, the third highest volcano in the world with a great viewpoint.
My party decided to add some adventure with our visit by booking a quad bike tour with Quad Safari Tenerife.
While the weather wasn’t on our side given rain and temperatures reaching 4° C at the top; the staff at Quad Safari made up for this. (TIP: Be sure to layer up for this trip wearing a coat and pants as the temperature drops drastically as you make your way to the top of Tiede.)
Other ways to experience Teide
2. Walk From San Juan to Los Gigantes
A short 23 minute bus journey (€3.15 single) from Adeje to San Juan will situate you in the best place to begin walking along the coast to Los Gigantes.
This 10K walking journey is mostly flat and passes by many quaint Tenerife villages, natural made swimming pools and bars offering delicious mojitos. Mojito tour, anyone?
3. Enjoy The Beach
Tenerife is known for its black volcanic beaches but if it’s golden sandy beaches that you’re after, the south of the island is where you’ll find both, including the natural pools. Take advantage of the various water sports you can do on the beach such as jet skiing and paddle boarding. Water Sports Tenerife offered a lot of various options including jet ski rentals for 20 minutes for €40 and an hour of paddle boarding was €15.
4. Have extra time?
Consider going whale or dolphin watching on catamaran. The Eden Catamaran tour will provide you an additional ticket for free if you can’t see either a whale or dolphin.
Where To Stay
Island Village – Spacious Airbnb style accommodation. These villas are perfectly situated in Adeje and offer a rooftop pool with balconies and laundry facilities in each unit. The best home away from home during your stay.
Endless Summer House – If looking to save money on accommodation in Tenerife, Endless Summer House is a great place to meet others. Breakfast is included and the hostel is perfectly situated to Adeje and Playa de las Americas.

Tenerife resorts – Doittravel.ru
We have already talked about beaches of the island of Tenerife and posted a map of the location of the beaches. Still, when we talk about the island, the associative series “resort-beach” works. However, you can choose a resort not only by the “beach” parameter, in this article I will try to briefly describe what resorts and towns Tenerife has, which ones are worth visiting and which are not, what else is interesting in the resort, which resorts are nearby to the main attractions of the island, etc. In order to visually represent where something is, I place a faceless map of Tenerife with resorts, and immediately mark the main ones on it.
Map of Tenerife with resorts
On the map, I marked 14 resorts and cities, each of which is interesting in its own way.
1. Resort Costa Adeje. In my opinion Tenerife Costa Adeje resort is one of the best on the island. Firstly, there are large, beautiful beaches with a beautiful promenade along the coast. Secondly, good infrastructure with cafes and restaurants, souvenir shops. Thirdly, everything here is very civilized and cultural. They say that holidays on Costa Adeje are more suitable for a quiet family holiday, holidays with children. This is true, but this does not mean that there are no young people here! There are, and very many. Mostly Americans, British, Irish people rest at the resort.
Costa Adeje
2. Resort Las Americas. Truly a youth resort, party and lively place. Here, as well as in Costa Adeje, the beaches are long, but less picturesque. The resort is considered democratic, with more affordable prices, which is why a lot of young people hang out here, you can’t sleep in silence at night, because after 12 at night this place is just starting to live. Las Americas also has a “golden mile” – a street with famous Spanish brands, as well as all kinds of restaurants and cafes, a singing fountain and an antique-style concert hall.
Las Americas
3. Resort Los Cristianos. The chain of resorts (if you move to the south of the island) “Costa Adeje – Las Americas” continues the resort of Los Cristianos – a rather calm, non-party place. Los Cristianos was inhabited in the 16th century, so the resort will be of interest to you and its small historical center, with narrow streets. There is only one beach worth noting here – this is Playa de las Vistas. In the topic of beaches, we have already talked about it.
Los Cristianos
4. Resort Costa del Silencio. I can not call this place a resort, there is a tourist village of Ten Bel and the town of Las Galletas. Nothing remarkable, a simple quiet place, without tourist infrastructure, entertainment and a normal beach. Here you can turn around for a day or two, but I do not advise you to rest here for a long period of time.
Costa del Silencio
5. El Medano. This is a small resort town, its advantage is that it is located next to the international airport. The resting place is suitable only for windsurfers and kitesurfers. The beach there, although beautiful, is not for swimming, because there is always a strong wind and big waves.
El Medano
6. Candelaria – a coastal town, significant for its basilica, which houses a very important relic for all Canarians – the statue of Our Lady of Candelaria. On August 14-15, pilgrims from all over the island come to pray to this shrine.
Candelaria
7. Santa Cruz de Tenerife – the capital of the island since 1723. Definitely worth visiting the capital! You can easily get around the main sights on foot, at the same time combining this walk with shopping (we also wrote about it in a separate article). Nightlife is not typical for Santa Cruz, the city freezes at night, except for the carnival night, when the whole city is on the ears. Santa Cruz also has a large good beach, Las Teresitas. In general, I definitely recommend this place to visit for at least 5-6 days.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife
8. La Laguna. Until 1723 was the capital of the island, is the oldest city on the island. It should be noted that the old part of the city is a World Heritage Site and is under the protection of UNESCO. Therefore, you should definitely head here in order to explore the architectural sights of the island.
La Laguna
9. Punta del Hidalgo. Absolutely not a tourist place. Punta del Hidalgo is called the end of the world, because it is very quiet, calm, the place is conducive to reflection on life. There are no attractions, entertainment. People come here for privacy and tranquility. By the way, there are very good fish restaurants here, fish are caught right here.
Punta del Hidalgo
10. Puerto de la Cruz. A good tourist center on the northern coast of the island, and also the owner of the largest port. By the way, it is in this city that the famous Loro Park is located, which I wrote about in an article about the parks of the island. A good, interesting place to stay, BUT be more careful with the weather, after all, this is the north of the island – it is cooler, cloudier, rainier here than in the southern resorts.
Puerto de la Cruz
11. La Orotava. The town, located on the northern slope of the Teide volcano, certainly deserves attention. I recommend visiting this small, cozy town and enjoying beautiful panoramas from above, walking around the historic center of the city, and looking into the botanical garden. And if you are in Tenerife in June, you should definitely get to La Orotava for the Carpet Day holiday (the eighth day of the Catholic holiday of Corpus Christi), when the streets of the city are decorated with original carpets of flowers, sand, stones.
La Orotava
12. Icod de los Vinos. The town of Icod de los Vinos is famous and popular because in its vicinity grows the world-famous and very ancient dragon tree – a relict tree, such a giant cactus. They say he is about 800 years old. We look at the photo below (to understand the scale – not far from the dragon tree is a man in a yellow T-shirt). In addition, the town has a butterfly museum, which also deserves your attention.
Icod de los Vinos
13. Garachico. The city is located in the north of the island. Here the atmosphere is most reminiscent of mainland Spain, and not like other resorts in Tenerife. Garachico has a very beautiful coastline, all entirely of volcanic placers. Local authorities, however, have organized various routes for descending to the beaches, and natural oceanic depressions, so to speak, are being converted into swimming pools.
Garachico
14. Resort Los Gigantes. Beautiful resort located on the west coast of the island. The beach of the Los Gigantes resort is notable for its beautiful view – huge cliffs surround it from all sides, and it is also known for its healing properties (such a legend that a beach with volcanic sand has such properties). Also in Los Gigantes there is a port from where you can go on a boat trip or fishing. Lots of restaurants and cafes on the coast.
Los Gigantes
Tenerife Island (Spain)
take a break from the cold and get a boost of vivacity and energy, go to sunny Spain, to the island of Tenerife, where the beach season never ends.
Tenerife is the largest and most visited island in the Canary archipelago. The fact that this heavenly corner of the earth is of volcanic origin is indicated by its highest point – Teide volcano , along which ships easily find their way to the island. Whatever vacation you dream of – a quiet family vacation or an active one, full of various entertainments – in Tenerife you will definitely find the perfect solution for you.
Note to tourists: The fastest way to get to Tenerife is by air from Barcelona with a connection at Madrid Airport. Travel time is five and a half hours.
Whatever time you arrive in Tenerife, the weather will not disappoint you, because even in winter it is quite warm and pleasant. The warmest month is August, when the average air temperature during the day is +28 C, and the water warms up to +25 C. In September and October, the air becomes cooler, but the water is as warm as in summer.
In winter, the thermometers rarely drop below 20-22 C, the water temperature stays within +19-20 C. Rains, as a rule, are more frequent in the northern part of the island. The south coast enjoys warmer weather during the winter months. There is even snow in the mountains, but this is unlikely to spoil your vacation, on the contrary, it will bring a pleasant variety to your vacation.
Tenerife resorts: north or south?
Regardless of which part of Tenerife – northern or southern – you have chosen for your vacation, nothing will prevent you from getting to know the whole island, because its territory is small, and you can go around it in just a few hours.
If you love a busy holiday with sports, entertainment, shopping, you should opt for the southern resort of Las Americas , which was built specifically for tourists. There are hotels and inns of all categories, but there are practically no ordinary houses. The city center is a place where a large number of entertainment facilities are concentrated: nightclubs, discos, restaurants. Life is seething here, and the fun does not stop even at night. In the western part of the city – Playa de Las Americas – much quieter and calmer, so it is comfortable to relax here with children. These areas are united by a wide six-kilometer coastline, eight beaches of which are famous for their unusual sand brought from Africa. The beaches are free, with a large selection of entertainment both on the water and on the shore.
Beach resort of Las Americanos
A low mountain Chayofita separates Las Americas from Los Cristianos , a resort that grew out of a small fishing village. This is a great place for a family vacation, as there is practically no nightlife. It offers tourists two comfortable beaches, several restaurants and shops. Those who want to diversify their leisure time need only take a walk along the promenade to Las Americas, where there is entertainment for every taste. 9 belongs to the same category.0072 Costa Adeje , which has four beaches and offers excellent conditions for outdoor activities: diving, surfing, yachting and golf.
Playa de Los Cristianos
No less popular resort in the southern part of Tenerife is El Medano , the main feature of which is the largest natural beach on the island. This place was chosen by fans of windsurfing. The best resort for divers – Playo Paraiso with a rocky shore and budget hotels.
El Medano
Diving on the island of Tenerife
If you like a secluded holiday, you should choose Ten Bel resort village , which does not have luxury hotels and a lot of entertainment, but almost all hotels work on an all-inclusive basis ”, so tourists do not even need to leave their territory. There is no traditional beach here, instead there is a huge pool filled with sea water and equipped with a sandy descent into the ocean.
Ten-Bel
Holidays in Los Gigantes will appeal to those who like to enjoy the contemplation of natural landscapes and explore local attractions at their leisure. The very name of the resort speaks of its landscape – “Rock of the Giants”. Tourists are waiting for a picturesque rocky coast, a beach covered with black volcanic sand, ancient streets and buildings, as well as a port where tourist and fishing boats call.
Los Gigantes
The oldest resort on the island – Puerto de la Cruz – located in its northern part. It differs from the southern resorts by a milder and more humid climate, as well as more lush vegetation. Winds often blow here and huge waves rise, so swimming can be unsafe. Two volcanic black sand beaches are great for surfing. There are few hotels in the city. Their main guests are wealthy English tourists. The main attractions are a visit to Loro Park, where not only parrots live, but other animals, and the botanical garden.
Puerto de la Cruz
The heart of the tourist life of the island is its capital Santa Cruz de Tenerife is a quiet city that interests tourists not as a beach resort, but as a destination for shopping and entertainment, since there are malls and shops and hosts an annual carnival. The city has several ancient churches and temples, as well as the Auditorio de Tenerife, a concert hall that is a symbol of the capital.
Santa Cruz de Tenerife
Important! Tenerife is a free economic zone, so the prices for various goods are lower than the continental ones, and the range is quite large.
Tenerife for lovers of entertainment
Teide Volcano – one of the main attractions of Tenerife – is located in the national park of the same name. Its height is more than 3700 m, but it is not difficult to climb to the top: a funicular brings tourists here. From the observation deck, which is located at the very crater of an extinct volcano, offers a magnificent view not only of the island itself, but of the entire archipelago. The natural attractions of Tenerife also include Cape Teno , Masca Gorge , Benijo Beach and Laurel Forest .

PARAREM “Guimar ” is struck by the imagination of which are still unknown, the target and the purpose of which are still unknown. Tourists will also be interested in visiting the museum, which presents photographic materials and the results of research on the pyramids by Thor Heyerdahl.

San Miguel Castle invites you to plunge into the Middle Ages, where they will have an interesting excursion and an exciting knightly show. Among the religious shrines, it is worth highlighting Candelaria Basilica – a Catholic church with a high bell tower and a beautiful interior. Unique examples of traditional Canarian architecture can be found in the cities of Orotava and Icod de los Vinos.

Tenerife has also prepared a lot of entertainment for children. Not far from Loro Parque , where exciting shows with parrots, dolphins, sea lions and killer whales, as well as a tunnel with sharks and a penguinarium, are located Siam Park – one of the largest water parks in Europe with a variety of water attractions, swimming pools and buildings stylized as Thailand.
Loro Parque
No less exciting will be an excursion to the eagle park – “ Jungle Park “, where you can visit the show with the participation of its inhabitants, walk through the artificial jungle, where monkeys and raccoons roam freely, and lions, jaguars, tigers and crocodiles are under supervision of maintenance personnel.

Soft rays of the sun, fresh ocean air, as well as an abundance of thermal and mineral springs have made Tenerife an excellent place for recreation and recreation.
Please note! The most convenient way to travel around the island is by car, which can be rented. This service is available to those who own an international driver’s license.

Overview of all resorts in Cyprus
You will travel to the most popular resorts of the Republic of Cyprus: Paphos, Limassol, Protaras, Ayia Napa, Larnaca. These are the places to visit first.
It is impossible to single out any resort among others, because they are all good in their own way. Paphos is the most elite place, Ayia Napa is the “local Ibiza”, the center of the vibrant night and day life of young people, and Protaras is its opposite. Let us consider in more detail all the advantages, highlights and features of each of them: what kind of sand and descent into the sea, what the resort offers and for whom it is suitable. We will find out where to go diving, or where the children will be most interested.
It’s no secret that organizing a trip yourself is much more profitable than buying a tour in travel agencies, but now international services have appeared that monitor low prices for tours and offer to buy them online, while sometimes the tour price is lower than if you go on your own. One of these services can be found below.
Ayia Napa resort
A tourist town in the eastern part of the island of Ayia Napa is the most cheerful and youthful resort in Cyprus. During the day it may seem that this is a calm place, but at night the whole city “wakes up” and begins to glow with neon. Holidays in Ayia Napa are preferred even by locals due to the huge number of beach discos, clubs, bars and restaurants. Most of the festivals are also held here.
There are very few places of interest in the town, since in ancient times it was a small fishing village. This place is ideal for outdoor activities: surfing, wakeboarding, yachting and water skiing.
Beach Dom Beach in the resort of Ayia Napa
The beaches in Ayia Napa are among the best in Cyprus: clear water washes a wide coast with soft white sand. The entrance to the sea is gentle – just right for carefree splashing in the water. Great for children, unless of course you forget about night discos that can interfere with sleep. Therefore, when traveling with children, choose the right hotel.
A dolphinarium, a water park and an amusement park have been built in the city for kids, while adults and the elderly can play tennis or even golf.

Paphos resort
One of the airports in Cyprus is located in the ancient city of Paphos. The birthplace of the goddess of love and beauty Aphrodite is the most respectable resort on the island. Speaking of the “Paphos resort”, they usually mean its surroundings: Coral Bay, Aphrodite Hills, the town of Polis and Latchi.
Holidays here are more expensive than in other resorts, so it is popular with wealthy people. The level of service is the most luxurious, represented by a large number of comfortable hotels and VIP-level hotels. There are also many chic restaurants in the resort.
Corallia Beach in Paphos
This is a very quiet city: there are no night discos and there are no special programs for children, except for a huge aquarium and a park on the outskirts of the city. But in the medieval castle on Paphos Square, the Aphrodite Opera Festival is held annually. There are many interesting ancient sites in the city and its environs, where excursions are often taken. The city itself is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Paphos is a quiet place for secluded rest and relaxation. At the resort you can use the services of excellent Spa-centers.
The beaches of Paphos in Cyprus are considered the most elite, but by no means the most comfortable on the island, as the city has only recently become a full-fledged beach resort. Often the entrance to the sea is rocky, but you can also find a couple of sandy beaches. The best of them is located in the municipality of Peyia in the bay “Coral Bay” (which translates as coral bay).

Larnaca resort
Larnaca is the second airport in Cyprus. This port city is quite spacious and large, but not very crowded even in high season. It is also the oldest city on the island. There are many ancient sights here, however, in appearance the city cannot be called old. Rest here is considered the most inexpensive.
This place could be called ordinary, so in general people come to Larnaca for a beach holiday. Mackenzie Beach is the most fashionable and crowded beach in Larnaca, it has been awarded the honorary Blue Flag for its cleanliness. There is a fairly gentle descent into the sea and gentle sand. Near the beach there are many bars, taverns and restaurants for every taste. It is also a favorite place for divers. Be sure to visit it to look at the sunken ferry “Zenobia”.
Larnaca’s Mackenzie Beach
Phinikoudes Beach is incredibly beautiful thanks to the palm tree promenade that gives the bay a great view. The water temperature here is slightly higher due to the long gentle descent – you can walk 100 meters in the water and still touch the bottom! Finikoudes is also blue flagged for being clean and safe. Entertainment for vacationers is provided by bars, cafes and discos, as well as numerous water and beach attractions.

All the coasts here are sandy, the sand is greyish, volcanic. Of the beaches, Lady Mile can be distinguished – the longest beach in all of Cyprus. There are few tourists here, often locals choose it for recreation. For those who want to have fun at beach parties and discos, the Gubernatorsky beach is the best option.

The resort area, which has developed especially intensively in recent years, is located along the coast and smoothly connects with the neighboring resort – Malgrat de Mar – through a busy tourist promenade, along which numerous shops, shopping centers, bars, restaurants, cafes, discos and night entertainment centers are concentrated . The historical part of the city is located above the highway, on picturesque hills covered with dense vegetation. Here you can see the majestic watchtower of the 16th century, as well as the restored castle-castle Castell de Can Rates, on the territory of which the cultural and artistic center is now located. Near the old town is the beautiful Parque Natural de la Font del Boter.

You can get to Barcelona in 1 hour right by the sea.
Costa Dorada
Costa Dorada – An amazingly beautiful corner of the Mediterranean coast of Catalonia, one of the most popular coastal areas in Spain, stretching southwest of Barcelona. Inquisitive tourists can devote their holidays to acquaintance with the historical places of the coast – the ancient cities of Tarragona , Sitges, Reus , the Benedictine monastery Montserrat . The most famous resorts on the coast are La Pineda, Salou, Cambrilis . The modern infrastructure included all the entertainment, both for extreme and unforgettable family vacations. Costa Blanca
Costa Blanca, is an excellent combination of relaxing by the sea during the day and relaxing after the sea at night. Fireworks show every week. Excursions to Flamingo Island, the largest disco in Europe (as they say here) SunSet, mineral springs.
COSTA BLANCA – translated from Spanish – “white coast” – part of the Mediterranean coast, located between the cities of Alicante and Valencia. The capital of the Costa Blanca – the famous world resort of Benidorm – is located in a small cozy bay, protected on both sides by mountain ranges. A warm sea current passes here and therefore the season starts early. Benidorm, by right, is called little California, since almost all the hotels in the resort are high-rise buildings that resemble the skyscrapers of North America. In addition, this resort center Costa Blanca is famous for its wide urban embankments, which are built up with modern shopping centers, restaurants, bars, cafes, discos and nightclubs.
The most popular tourist entertainment centers:
More recently, in the vicinity of Benidorm, a new amusement park has been opened – Terra Mitica (Land of Myths). The hospitable Costa Blanca also invites you to visit one of the largest water amusement parks “Aqualandia” – a favorite vacation spot for adults and children.
The Mundomar Marine Animal Park, located near Benidorm, will offer you a unique encounter with nature: performances of charming fur seals, parrots, and much more … In addition, Benidorm has the best concert hall on the coast, Benidorm Palace, a medieval castle where you will be offered to have dinner and watch a real jousting tournament. Costa del Sol
Costa del Sol in Spanish means “shore of the sun”, the southernmost coast of Spain, the beaches of which stretch in a continuous strip from Malaga to the Strait of Gibraltar. Many famous artists, businessmen and just rich people from all over the world have chosen Costa del Sol as their residence, and for good reason; the sun shines here 360 days a year, the weather is warm and stable, and the swimming season lasts longer than on the rest of the coasts of Spain. Andalusia – this is the name of this province, the birthplace of the famous Flamenco dance, it was here that the first bullfights appeared, the most pronounced and interesting autonomy.
Andalusian resorts: Torremolinos, Benalmadena Costa, Fuengirola, Marbella, Estepona. The Marbella resort is the most luxurious and luxurious, in its Puerto Banus harbor there are the most expensive yachts owned by the rich and famous people of the planet.

Mallorca
Mallorca is one of the most environmentally friendly resorts in the Mediterranean. An extraordinary peace embraces everyone who sets foot on the land of this fabulous island. Nature itself reminds us that man was created for joy and happiness. Fryderyk Chopin enthusiastically wrote about this island: “…the sky is turquoise, the sea is blue, and the mountains are emerald… And the sun shines all day… In a word, life here is amazing…”.
The pearl of the Mediterranean, Mallorca – the largest of the islands of the picturesque Balearic archipelago – has something that is difficult to find on the mainland coast: in a short time you can find yourself in a wide variety of places, and for this there is no need to make long trips. The territory of the island is a rare variety of landscapes: the Tramontana mountain range, the central plain, the hilly eastern part. Landscapes rapidly change each other, and this amazing combination of sheer coasts of the island, the fabulous beauty of rocky bays and the golden sand of many kilometers of beaches along the shores of the bays have turned Mallorca into one of the most popular resorts in the Mediterranean.
Due to its favorable Mediterranean climate, Mallorca is one of the resorts visited by tourists all year round. Even at the height of summer, there is no excessively sweltering heat here, and winter is exceptionally mild. Relative humidity fluctuates around 70% throughout the year and, combined with a favorable temperature regime, contributes to the consistently good health of the resort’s guests.
Tenerife
Tenerife Island , washed by the waters of the Atlantic Ocean, is an ideal place for a varied and unusual holiday at any time of the year. Spring is always here. The main attraction of the island Tenerife is undoubtedly the most visited Teide National Reserve in Spain . The exceptional climate and unique nature, full of contrasts and paradises, the cordiality and hospitality of the population, are an additional attraction for tourists. The luxury of hotel complexes, the magnificence of casinos and concert halls, the bright colors of the carnival, the rich cuisine of restaurants, the democratic atmosphere in entertainment centers and nightclubs, a paradise for shoppers, ample opportunities for outdoor activities and water sports – all this and much more leaves indelible impression of the time spent here.
Tenerife – the business capital and resort south
In Ireland, one of the most popular holiday destinations is the Canary Islands – firstly, it is not long to fly, secondly, it is also not the mainland, and thirdly, it is sunny and warm until late autumn.
From Wikipedia: Tenerife is the largest island in the Canary Islands. Its length is 80–85 km (from northeast to southwest), width – from 6–12 km (in the northeast) to 45–50 km (in the southwest).
The distance from Tenerife to the coast of Africa is about 300 km, and to mainland Spain about 1000 km.
Mount Teide rises in the center of the island (3718 m above sea level, the highest point in Spain). The last volcanic eruption in Tenerife occurred in 1909.
The ridge formed by volcanic activity divides Tenerife into two parts – southern and northern, the climate of which differs significantly. To the north of the range the climate is much cooler and damper, while to the south it is dry and sunny.
Tenerife is known as the “Island of Eternal Spring”. It has a year-round warm climate. The temperature fluctuates between 20-26°C in winter and 23-29°C in summer.
***
Let’s start from the capital. Santa Cruz de Tenerife is more of an administrative and industrial city than a tourist one.
Interestingly, the title of the capital of the archipelago is passed to each other every 4 years by the cities of Santa Cruz de Tenerife in Tenerife and Las Palmas de Gran Canaria – respectively in Gran Canaria. But the parliament of the Canary archipelago constantly meets in Santa Cruz de Tenerife. Local residents have long been accustomed to this feature, but guests are always surprised when they find out how the administrative division of capitals in the Canaries works.
Central street.
Government quarter.
There is also a history museum, where everything is only in Spanish, and an “African” market. I liked both there and there, but for some reason I didn’t have a photo.
Parks. The capital is located in the north of the island, there is much more rain here than in the southern part, and therefore the vegetation is more abundant than in the south.
Good roads.
In the city, almost the entire coast is occupied by a cargo-passenger port, the beach is located a few kilometers from the city, we have not been there.
Opera House, located near the port.
While walking along the embankment we saw a rehearsal of a mixed drum orchestra. The girl conductor is a bundle of energy. An exciting spectacle.
This is a mix of Europe and Africa.
***
Moving on to the resort south of the island.
The Teide volcano and mountain ranges do not allow rain clouds to break through to the south, and also reliably shelter from northern winds. Therefore, the south is rich in sun and tourists.
The resort area stretches for about 10 kilometers from Los Cristianos to La Caleta. The airport is located 15 kilometers from Los Cristianos – it is convenient to get there by taxi, there are also buses and there are several car rental offices. By the way, rentals from local distributors are two times cheaper than from international ones. Once we were seduced by cheapness, and the car (Toyota Avensis) turned out to have a defective air conditioner with leaking freon. We ourselves are not particularly spoiled, we can open the windows, but with the scorching almost equatorial sun and the air conditioner turned off, the phone attached to the windshield, and with it the navigator, baked and turned off instantly. So it’s better not to save on rentals.
Personally, I am ready to travel to the south of Tenerife, if only for sunsets in the sea.
A long promenade stretches along the entire resort area, it is very good to take a walk in the evening. Or in the morning, before the onset of heat.
Cape El Duc. It owes its name to the Duke of Abrantes, because Duque in Spanish means duke. The house in a picturesque place on the Costa Adeje was built at the beginning of the 20th century by the Duke of Abrantes.
It was rumored that the disgraced King Alfonso XIII was supposed to hide here, but he never appeared here. Later, the house, which began to collapse, changed owners several times, was restored and restored.
El Duc Beach, beloved by many.
View from the path to the recreation area of an expensive hotel.
It is very pleasant to sit in the cafe on the promenade in the fresh ocean air with a cup of barraquito, Canarian coffee.
Shrimps in garlic butter, a popular dish in the Canary Islands. We also fell in love, and now from time to time we cook at home. Although, I must say that this dish is not local, but brought by the British. The most traditional Canarian food is small potatoes boiled in sea water, eaten with a green or red sauce based on olive oil, goat meat stew, rabbit stew again, various fish, octopus, and goat cheese. Also bananas (Platanos), dates, and figs.
Moving on. Nice beach with palm trees.
Date palms are very common here. Dates are one of the popular souvenirs to bring back from Tenerife. And also – dried figs and aloe cosmetics.
In Los Americas, surfers gather and catch a wave – the rest of the people watch them floundering in the water.
Las Vistas is the largest beach on the south coast. In Tenerife, the beaches were originally made of black volcanic tufa, which gradually turned into black sand. Yellow sand was brought from Africa especially for resorts. Gray beaches are visible where the yellow layer is not thick enough.
Los Crisianos.
Same place if you turn into the city. While Las Americas is entirely given over to tourists, Los Cristianos is home to locals along with tourists. Here, in small “non-tourist” shops, it is good to buy freshly caught fish, fragrant vegetables, local soft cheeses and sweet figs.
“Old” city.
The founder of tourism in the south coast of Tenerife is the Swede Bengt Rylander, also known as “Don Benito”. He suffered from multiple sclerosis and at 19In 1956, he moved to the village, hoping that a favorable climate and clean air would help curb the disease. And Don Benito’s affairs began to improve. And since the Swede previously worked as a television commentator, soon they learned all over Sweden about the miracle village on the ocean, where nature itself helps to get rid of ailments. And Swedish speech here has ceased to be exotic.
And if the first spa residents lived in Los Cristianos as “savages”, then a few years later they had several hotels and a rehabilitation clinic at their disposal.
In memory of the pioneering Swedes, one of the main streets of Los Cristianos is called Avenida de Suecia, and there is a Lutheran church on the waterfront.
“New” city.

Benidorm occupies a number of amusing places one can visit during the winters. As the town itself is quite new, do not expect an old town and old buildings. The most popular destinations include:

Aguas Verdes, La Costa, Buenos Aires | Playas y Balnearios

Canary Islands, holidays in Spain
Description
Fuerteventura is an island with a huge number of natural attractions. The Canary Islands are of volcanic origin; as a result of eruptions, many caves, grottoes, and rocks were formed. On the west coast of Fuerteventura in Betancuria is one of these natural wonders – the natural pools of Aguas Verdes. They were created by volcanoes and nature – the volcanic lava in the ocean froze, and under the influence of erosion and waves, pools of various sizes were formed. They are filled with sea water during high tides, which are very significant in this place, and are protected from waves during low tides. Swimming in the natural pools of Aguas Verdes allows you to enjoy the silence, tranquility, while watching the power of the ocean, whose waves break on the rocks. Natural pools stretched along the coastline for 6 km, they are of different sizes and depths.
Content:
9000 and the tides change quite often. At high tide, you can walk nearby and admire the natural pools from above, but swimming can be dangerous, especially if you are with children. For swimming, choose the time of high tide. On average, high and low tides occur with an interval of 1-2 hours.
If you want to enjoy peace and privacy, don’t stop at the first natural pool you see. Go through the rocks further and you can find a quieter and more secluded place.
Pools are interesting not only as a place for swimming, an unusual volcanic landscape is hidden under the water, so it is worth taking snorkeling equipment with you.

Getting there
These natural pools are located on the west coast. You can get here on the FV-30 highway, near the village of Llanos de la Concepción, you must turn onto the road leading to the city of Aguas Verdes. After parking your car, walk towards the coast until you reach Playa del Valle. We recommend that you take care of comfortable shoes in advance.

We base the humidity comfort level on the dew point, as it determines whether perspiration will evaporate from the skin, thereby cooling the body. Lower dew points feel drier and higher dew points feel more humid. Unlike temperature, which typically varies significantly between night and day, dew point tends to change more slowly, so while the temperature may drop at night, a muggy day is typically followed by a muggy night.
The chance that a given day will be muggy in Maspalomas is essentially constant during February, remaining around 1% throughout.
For reference, on September 22, the muggiest day of the year, there are muggy conditions 45% of the time, while on January 13, the least muggy day of the year, there are muggy conditions 0% of the time.

The estimated value at Maspalomas is computed as the weighted average of the individual contributions from each station, with weights proportional to the inverse of the distance between Maspalomas and a given station.
The stations contributing to this reconstruction are:

To get a sense of how much these sources agree with each other, you can view a comparison of Maspalomas and the stations that contribute to our estimates of its temperature history and climate. Please note that each source’s contribution is adjusted for elevation and the relative change present in the MERRA-2 data.
Other Data
All data relating to the Sun’s position (e.g., sunrise and sunset) are computed using astronomical formulas from the book, Astronomical Algorithms 2nd Edition , by Jean Meeus.
All other weather data, including cloud cover, precipitation, wind speed and direction, and solar flux, come from NASA’s MERRA-2 Modern-Era Retrospective Analysis . This reanalysis combines a variety of wide-area measurements in a state-of-the-art global meteorological model to reconstruct the hourly history of weather throughout the world on a 50-kilometer grid.
Land Use data comes from the Global Land Cover SHARE database , published by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
Elevation data comes from the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) , published by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
Names, locations, and time zones of places and some airports come from the GeoNames Geographical Database .
Time zones for airports and weather stations are provided by AskGeo.com .

Disclaimer
The information on this site is provided as is, without any assurances as to its accuracy or suitability for any purpose. Weather data is prone to errors, outages, and other defects. We assume no responsibility for any decisions made on the basis of the content presented on this site.
We draw particular cautious attention to our reliance on the MERRA-2 model-based reconstructions for a number of important data series. While having the tremendous advantages of temporal and spatial completeness, these reconstructions: (1) are based on computer models that may have model-based errors, (2) are coarsely sampled on a 50 km grid and are therefore unable to reconstruct the local variations of many microclimates, and (3) have particular difficulty with the weather in some coastal areas, especially small islands.
We further caution that our travel scores are only as good as the data that underpin them, that weather conditions at any given location and time are unpredictable and variable, and that the definition of the scores reflects a particular set of preferences that may not agree with those of any particular reader.
