In the mountains my heart – Courier Mallorca
by Vicente Ferrer
Artists worship local landscapes.
Anyone who flies to Mallorca just for a beach holiday is depriving himself. This island is multifaceted. Fields, forests, and most importantly, mountains, the famous Tramuntana mountain range, which for several decades has been the target of a huge number of German and English tourists who love to travel on foot and light.
The best starting point for this hike is the town of Sawyer (Soller). The path begins with the “Moon Road”, which runs past the town of Biniarach and leads travelers to a fabulous valley. The landscape from the gentle Mediterranean is so quickly replaced by the harsh rocky terrain with magnificent waterfalls that it seems as if by some magic you really ended up in the beautiful, fairy-tale land of Narnia.
I must say that all the routes recommended for tourists to walk are indicated both in guidebooks and maps, and directly on the ground. The main trail is the GR 221. Its length is just over a hundred kilometers from Port Andratx to Pollenca.
It’s impossible not to be happy here.
Once upon a time, it was popularly called the “coal path”, because the main fuel of the island, coal, was transported along it. Many robbers also lived here, robbing and killing lone travelers. This attack, of course, does not threaten today’s guests of the island.
It takes 8-10 days to cross the Tramuntana Mountains on foot, depending on the speed of your step. Technically, this path will be quite simple. The traveler does not have to climb steep cliffs or overcome stormy mountain rivers. However, do not forget that even simple mountain trails take a lot of strength from a person. Therefore, experienced “walkers” recommend choosing to start with a one-day walk or a maximum of a two-day forced march with an overnight stay somewhere in Tossals Birds (Tossals Verds).
There are a lot of options for such trips “on foot”. A light option, for example, can be the so-called forced march from halt to halt, the first of which can be done in Refugio de la Muleta, not far from the port of Sawyer, and the last one can be done at least in the same Tossals Birds. This walk, at a good pace, will take travelers about eight hours.
The air is filled with the tart aroma of pines.
Mountain “hardcore” fans can advise a long road with a pass near the town of Barranc de Biniaraix (Barranc de Biniaraix), which offers amazing views of the Sawyer Valley. However, this campaign will be much more difficult: in order to overcome it, you must have a certain physical fitness. By the way, at an altitude of a thousand meters, the terrain from the Mediterranean suddenly becomes so mountainous and rocky that it is easier to believe that you are in the Alps than on the main island of the Balearic archipelago. One of the highest points of this trip, the town of Col de L’Ofre (Coll de l’Ofre), is equipped with a radar station. Not far from here lies Lake Cúber – a favorite vacation spot for the local population, who get here in their own cars and arrange picnics here. The same path can be covered in two days. Having made a stop for the night in Tossals Verds, the next day you need to move in the direction of the town of Yuk (Lluc). The road will run through oak groves. The air in them is so saturated with moisture that the bark of almost all trees is covered with soft emerald moss.

Canaries in April Tours to the Canary Islands in March. Together with this material they usually read
The Canary Islands in April are beautiful in their own way. Every year at this time of the year, tourists from all over the world flock here and for good reason, because in April you can not only have a great rest, but also save money.
Weather in the Canary Islands in April
In April, real spring is in the Canary Islands, there are no long rains here this time of year, and the ocean is less stormy. In early April, precipitation is likely, but the rain will not last long, except to slightly moisten the ground.
This is a great time for swimming, it is also safe to get sunbathing and a beautiful tan.
The water is warmed up to 22 ºС in some places, so all the same, especially if you have a company of small children on vacation, it’s good if the hotel has a heated pool.
During the day in the south of Tenerife, about +26 ºС, it is even warmer in Gran Canaria.
In April, all people tired of winter can enjoy greenery and tranquility in the Canary Islands.
A certain trouble can be caused by the sirocco wind, which brings sand and considerable heat from the Sahara desert, at such a moment, as a rule, at the end of April, a special natural phenomenon called Kalima sets in.
But the weather in April changes quickly, therefore, due to elevation changes, it can vary quite significantly in different parts of the Canary Islands.
By the way, in resort villages, weather troubles are observed much less frequently than in other parts of the islands.

Things to do in the Canaries
Participate in celebrations
There are still few holidays at this time of the year, local residents are still resting, gaining strength before the holiday season. But still a couple of holidays can be visited. For example, the week following April 4th is the time for the celebration of Saint Vicente de Ferrer. This event takes place in the municipality of Garafia. Then, on April 27, the municipality of Tazacorte celebrates religious holidays in honor of Our Lady of Montserrat.
Visit cathedrals
In April, as a rule, Catholic Easter is celebrated, it happens beautifully, magnificently, with religious processions, interesting masses, folk festivals, orchestra performances and open-air theatrical performances. It is impossible not to mention such a bright April holiday as Aboriginal Day in Gran Canaria, during which folklore groups perform in many villages of the island.
Prices for holidays in the Canary Islands in April
Until now, many believe that relaxing in the Canary Islands is something prohibitively expensive and luxurious, and only oligarchs can afford it. This is an old myth and nothing more. After all, in fact, prices in the Canary Islands are much lower than in general in Spain. This applies not only to hotels, but also to shops and restaurants. And if you know what time is more profitable to go, you can save a lot. April is a win-win: there are still few tourists, prices are at a fairly low level, and the weather already allows you to enjoy your vacation.
The British and Germans fly to the Canary Islands for 100 euros, and this is the price for round-trip tickets, for Europeans only Tunisia and Egypt are cheaper than the Canary Islands. For Russian travelers, air travel, of course, is more expensive. Although here you can save money if you catch yourself in time and buy a hot air ticket directly from the operator. Sometimes the discounts reach the point that there are offers to buy 1 ticket for the price of 2. In addition, you can save money if you fly with a transfer in Madrid. To do this, you need to buy a cheap ticket to Madrid, and from there it costs 100 euros to get to Tenerife and other islands.
If you follow the special offers of Canarian hotels, you can reduce your costs by another 20-30%. The main thing is to plan your vacation in advance and not fly on holidays, such as Easter, since it is on these days that the prices for accommodation in hotels or private apartments are the highest. In general, according to experts, the most minimal prices for the rest of all tourists are expected in April and May.
This is one of the most delightful corners of our blue-eyed planet! The Canary Islands are the pearl of the Castilian crown in the past and the pride of modern Spain. A paradise for tourists, where the gentle sun always shines, and the sea (that is, it calls to plunge into transparent waves. It is not for nothing that tourists from all over the world dream of coming here, at least for a short time. After all, the Canary Islands are beautiful at any time of the year (the weather for months is different).
Canary archipelago: composition
The islands, lost in the waves of the Atlantic Ocean, are of volcanic origin. But nevertheless, they amaze with their unique beauty and unique climate, recognized as the best on Earth. The archipelago consists of thirteen islands of different sizes. The main seven: Gran Canaria, Gomera, Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Hierro, La Palma and Lanzarote. Six more islets are small patches of land with peculiar landscapes. These are Graciosa, Roque del Este, Alegranza, Lobos, Montagna Clara, Roque del Oeste.
Toponymy of the islands
The first names of the Canaries reflected the attitude of people towards this divine place. Greek and Roman manuscripts, compiled by the greatest minds of the time, called them the Happy Isles, the Garden of the Hesperides, Atlantis. At that time, the Guanches tribes lived here – tall white-skinned people, whose small settlements hid in caves and rocky shores. The inhabitants of the round houses fiercely resisted the Spanish colonizers in 1496.
Virtual trip (Lancerot, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria)
Let’s make a virtual trip and visit the Canary Islands, the weather by months will be discussed by us later. So, the first on the way is the island of Lanzarote, whose landscape resembles the surface of the moon and space panoramas. It is worth visiting if only to realize how rich the fantasy of nature is.
Fuerteventura attracts with the longest coastline and proximity to Africa. Perhaps that is why it is so reminiscent with its heat and golden dunes. Gran Canaria, like a small continent, has collected on its territory vegetation characteristic of both Europe and the Americas. In the central part of the island, granite mountains rise for two kilometers, cut by deep ravines and gorges.
Features of Tenerife
Next, we invite you to visit Tenerife (Canary Islands). The weather here is always wonderful, for which the area is called the island of eternal spring. It is the largest in the archipelago and the most famous. It is notable for its majestic mountain range, black sands on the beaches and a giant extinct volcano. Cañadas del Teide has a height of two thousand meters, and the diameter of the crater is 20 kilometers. It is surrounded by a national park.
Gomera, La Palma and Hierro
Gomera is a mountainous and impregnable island. Steep precipitous coasts contrast sharply with the ocean surface. In the center, an emerald tent spread the Garajonay National Park. Hierro is a small, little-studied piece of land. But it is here that tourists rush who crave a relaxing holiday away from the hustle and bustle. Luxurious tropical nature and a bay of indescribable beauty open to the eye from the top of Malpaso, which rises in the middle. The last island is La Palma, which has very steep coasts, amazing mountain ranges and lush vegetation.
The climate of the archipelago
More and more tourists are choosing as a place. Weather by months, presented in this article, will help you choose the best time to travel. The climate here is moderately hot, and the air temperature stays around twenty degrees Celsius all year round. A little colder only high in the mountains on Palma and Tenerife. Winters are warm and mild, summers are not hot, and precipitation is moderate. As a resort, the Canaries are attractive all year round.
It should be noted that the weather conditions on individual islands vary in the north and south. Take the Canary Islands for example. The weather in the north is more comfortable, there is more greenery and rainfall. The southern part is characterized by sunny dry days. The explanation for this is simple: clouds that carry moisture are heavy, so they cannot overcome obstacles in the form of high mountain peaks. So they shed rains mainly in the north. On the highest peaks of the archipelago, even in summer, despite the high air temperature, you can see a snow cap.
Water temperature
The Canary Islands will always allow their guests to swim. Weather by months (air and water) is predicted by specialists on the eve of the tourist season. They compile special tables that help you choose the best time for vacation.
The water temperature off the coast of the Canary Islands varies. For example, the southern and southwestern coasts of Hierro, Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Homer and Palma warm up better, so the sea here is always several degrees warmer than in the north and northeast. These parts of the land are cooled by the Canary Current and the trade winds. You can pay attention to this circumstance: the closer the island is to the shores of the Black Continent, the warmer the water in the ocean.
Canary Islands in winter
Winter in these places very little resembles a snowy season. In December, tourists like to come here to celebrate the New Year and Christmas in an unusual setting. Indeed, your favorite holidays can be spent not for snowballs and snowman modeling, but on the beach. At this time, you can swim (the water warms up to +21°C) and sunbathe. During the day the thermometer shows +23, and at night – +19. But if you are going to go high into the mountains, then you should definitely grab warm clothes. It is much colder there, in addition, there is snow on some slopes.
January continues the festive relay race that began in December. The bright Canarian sun generously endows tourists with a chocolate tan and warmth, which the inhabitants of the northern hemisphere miss. There is snow in the mountains of the archipelago, which will remind you that winter reigns in the yard. Therefore, when traveling, you should take warm sweaters, jackets and shoes. The water temperature in the sea is kept at around + 20 ° C, during the day the air warms up to +23, and at night it only cools down to +18.
Winter is a great time to visit the Canary Islands. The weather in February is comfortable, making a sharp contrast with the Russian latitudes, where blizzards, snowdrifts and twenty degrees of frost reign. On the Spanish island territory, you can take a deep breath of fresh air, sunbathe (during the day the temperature rises to +23 ° C), take a walk along the coast in the evening (at night the thermometer shows + 18 ° C). The water in the Atlantic Ocean, of course, is not the same as fresh milk, but + 20 ° C is also not bad.
Paradise archipelago in spring
March is a good reason to visit the Canary Islands with your other half. Every lady will be delighted with such a gift for International Women’s Day. In this month, as in all others, the sun does not skimp on the heat. Snowy peaks mostly get rid of the snow cap. But it is still cool in the mountainous regions of the archipelago, so experienced travelers are advised to stock up on warm clothes. The ocean beckons with transparent waves warmed up to +20°C. The air temperature during the day is +24, at night – +19.
The Canary Islands come alive and transform in the spring. The weather in April is still wonderful. But tourists flock here for another reason. Airlines start the season of discounts, so the ticket is very cheap. Gorgeous beaches are filled with vacationers, because the temperature rises by several degrees. And what kind of atmosphere awaits those who have visited the Canary Islands? The weather in April is fresh and clean air mixed with the scent of flowers and a salty breeze. It is +25°C during the day and +20 at night. So pack your bags and hit the road!
The end of spring is the perfect time to travel to the Canary Islands. The weather here in May is unusual. It may seem to the guests of the archipelago that the famous were created just to visit this piece of paradise. The purest air is filled with the intoxicating aroma of herbs and flowers and the salty taste of the sea. There is no sweltering heat: during the day the thermometer shows + 26 ° C, at night – +22. The water in the ocean warms up to +21.
Summer in the Canaries
This is the time for a measured and calm rest. That is why people who crave a serene pastime choose the Canary Islands. The weather in June will give you the opportunity to get a fashionable bronze tan on the fashionable beaches with white and black sand. After all, the temperature here during the day reaches +28°C, and at night it drops only to +22. It is interesting that when coming here, you can not use burn creams – the sun is not dangerous here and does not burn at all. Turquoise waves of the ocean warm up to +23°C.
In July, the weather in the Canary Islands is quite hot. But still it is comfortable and pleasant. Even Fuerteventura – an island that is very close to the African Sahara – will not tire you with the desert climate. Its dunes and dunes, formed due to the hot wind from the Black Continent, are cooled by the underwater currents of the ocean. The water still warms up to +23°C, during the day the air temperature is +29°C, at night – +24.
The peak of the holiday season, which lasts all year round, falls at the end of summer. This is the hottest time to visit the Canary Islands. The weather in August, despite the high air temperatures (+31°C during the day, +25°C at night), remains comfortable. This archipelago compares favorably with the currently arid Turkey, Greece and other southern states. The Atlantic Ocean warms up to + 24 ° C off the coast.
gold autumn
The beginning of autumn is no reason to ignore the Canary Islands. The weather in September differs little from summer or spring, except for a change in temperature. The thermometer drops to +27°C during the day and +22°C at night. Water warms up to +23°C. It gets colder towards the end of the month, but it will still be enough for a tourist to take light clothes with him: T-shirts, shorts, skirts.
October will delight you with warm sun and really summer days. Indeed, at the height of the Canarian autumn, the temperature during the day is + 26 ° C, and at night – + 21 ° C. The water is still suitable for swimming (+ 24°C).
In November, tourists come to the Canary Islands, because it is still warm and sunny here, and the temperature drops by only a few degrees (+24°C during the day, +20°C at night). Ocean waves warm up to + 23°C, so you can swim, scuba dive, do water sports and have fun to the fullest.
Attractions of the islands
When visiting the Canarian archipelago, you can not worry about the cultural and entertainment program. In addition to lazy lying on the sea coast, there is an opportunity to go on exciting excursions and boat trips, scuba dive and visit the mountains, learn the history of the islands from the architectural masterpieces of the past. Natural wonders in the form of national parks, reserves, picturesque gorges and small canyons will not leave anyone indifferent. Be sure to visit the cliffs of the Giants and the mountains of Anaga, Hell’s Gorge and Teide Park, Loro Park and Timanfaya. The pyramids in Guimard, the water park, the El Diablo restaurant on a dormant volcano, the Cactus Garden are also worthy of your attention.

Now let’s talk about several popular resort towns located in different parts of the coast:
Barcelona
The coldest place of the presented. The swimming season here starts later than everyone else – in June, and ends earlier, in late September – early October. There are much more sunny days than in the European part of Russia, and you can enjoy the sun here even in winter.
From here it is easiest to get to ski resorts and warm sea coasts. From Barcelona there are high-speed trains throughout Spain.
The most uncomfortable and windy weather begins in February and ends in April, giving way to warm air – the precursor of the summer heat. The maximum summer temperature is +28. Mountains and forests in the north of the region contribute to this. The sea also does not differ in increased warmth – + 23-24. In the Canary Islands, even in winter, its temperature is about +20.
Alicante
This city is much south of Barcelona and the weather is a few degrees warmer. However, the beach season in Alicante starts only 1-2 weeks earlier. Winter is very comfortable and sunny, especially in December and January. The daily temperature does not drop below 15 degrees Celsius, and the sea temperature is below 13.
It rains most often in October and November, but they are not too much. You can still swim during this time.
March-April also “please” precipitation. In combination with coastal winds, this does not create a comfortable environment in the coastal zone. But this is an ideal time for excursions around the country. In summer +30 and warm sea up to +26 will delight parents with children and lovers of bathing in “fresh milk” .
Malaga
The capital of Andalusia pleases with hot sun and cool sea. Even in August, the sea here is 2-3 degrees colder than in Alicante. The reason for this is the proximity to the Atlantic ocean currents. Which even through the narrow Strait of Gibraltar fall into this part of the Mediterranean Sea.
In winter, the situation is reversed. The sea is warmer than in the north and the air remains warm up to +18.
This region is considered one of the best in Spain for sightseeing holidays. But it is not very suitable for beach activities and families with children because of the cool sea. However, the prices here are quite high.
Cadiz
Cadiz is a completely different coast – the Atlantic. There are wide beaches, clean sand. The swimming season opens in May and ends in October. High ocean waves allow you to practice various sports. In a long strip of surf, even the smallest will be comfortable. Due to the strong influence of the ocean, the climate is more even.
It rains more than in the Mediterranean. Cadiz is one of the oldest European cities, so it is popular not only for its beaches. In winter, it will be very pleasant to be here for an educational purpose or for those who just want to breathe in the ocean air.
More than 20 sunny days per month, this is an additional comfort factor. After all, the northerners miss the sun so much, especially in the cold and gloomy autumn.

The Balearic Islands have a wonderful temperate Mediterranean climate. Proximity to African shores makes it warmer than on the mainland. The sea keeps the temperature from rising too much in summer and falling too low in winter.
The beach season here lasts a little longer, until November. The hot summer is cooled by the island breeze, so it is very comfortable to be here. There is more rainfall than in mainland resorts.
The rainiest months are November and February. The sun will not come out from behind the clouds every day, but the air temperature + 15-20 completely compensates for this shortcoming.
All Canary Islands of volcanic origin. The mountain range each of them is divided into 2 parts – northern and southern. The weather at both ends of the island can be drastically different. If it is raining at one end, a strong wind is blowing and a maximum of +20, then at the other it is quiet, sunny, warm and +26. The difference in average annual temperatures here does not exceed 10 degrees Celsius.
Looking at the table, you can see that the air and sea temperatures in the north and in the south are not much different, but the number of sunny days on the south coast is one and a half times more.
The beach season in the Canary Islands lasts almost the whole year. Of course, only seasoned swimmers can swim from December to April. After all, the sea temperature will be about +20 degrees. Also, here you can lie in the snow, if you climb the tops of volcanoes in the winter months. They do not reach the ski resorts, but it is absolutely real to admire the snow-white hats. Due to the uniqueness of the islands, vacation prices are much higher than on the mainland.
We hope that with the help of our article you have learned something new about the weather in Spain by months and we have helped you decide on the place of your upcoming vacation.
Have a nice trip!
Weather by months is presented in the temperature table and in the reviews of tourists, in June for Ibiza 26°C, Valencia 26°C.
Spain is located on the Iberian Peninsula, which in turn is surrounded on all sides by the sea, but sea air masses in no way affect the climatic conditions in the central part of the peninsula. Spain is characterized by a subtropical climate of the Mediterranean type, which characterizes this country as an excellent option for tourist trips. So in the summer months in Spain it is quite hot, and the winter is cool, but comfortable. Almost throughout Spain, winter is short, and the average temperature is around +8°C, and in the summer months the average air temperature is around +27+30°C. This temperature is characteristic of the coastal zones of Spain, while moving away from the coastal zone, the temperature background changes slightly, winter becomes colder. So in the winter months in the central regions of Spain, the air temperature is only about + 2 + 3 ° C, and summer temperatures remain as hot as on the coast, reaching the thermometer mark of + 30 ° C, the only thing is that at night the temperature drops to +18°C, which is much lower than on the coast.

A review of Santa Catalina Hotel in Las Palmas, Gran Canaria
We recently found cheap flights to Gran Canaria and decided to book a little city break in Las Palmas, the capital city of the island. Because we had saved money on the flights, I decided to go a bit bougie when it came to accommodation. I booked three nights at the oldest hotel in Las Palmas. Here is my review of Santa Catalina Hotel in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. I’d always wanted to stay at a prestigious hotel like this one and I really feel it’s the best place to stay in Las Palmas….

Where does this data come from
Weather data for Eu was collected from the MERRA-2 project from NASA, which used a climate model combined with historical data from weather stations around the world to estimate what the conditions were like for every point on the Earth.
For all data based on historical data, we’ve averaged the data from the past 11 years (2010-2020). For example, for the hourly temperature at 10am, we’ve looked at the temperature at 10am on every day in March (e.g., March 1, March 2, etc. in 2010, 2011, etc.) and took the arithmetic mean. We did not smooth the data, so for example, our daily temperature line will have some randomness due to the fact that weather is random in the first place.

Cooling and calm weather exacerbated the energy shortage in Europe – Latest news from Russia and the world today Updated December 25, 2022, 18:33
March 31, 2022, 07:05
Photo: 1MI
Windless weather has been observed in Europe this week, which has reduced the amount of energy generated by wind farms. The lack of energy is exacerbated by the onset of cold weather. At the same time, Gazprom continues to pump gas through Ukraine at full capacity. nine0003
Storyline
Climate change
Wind farms, one of the tasks of which is to reduce dependence on energy supplies from Russia, continue to fall in energy production due to calm. In the period from 21 to 27 March, they provided only 12% of electricity generation in the EU, and in the first days of the new week – only 10%. This is indicated by data from the WindEurope Association.
In addition, cold weather came to Europe with night frosts. Thus, the average air temperature fell by 7 degrees compared to the previous week (from 14 to 20 March). nine0003
In this regard, European importers have increased their applications for gas supplies from Gazprom, despite rising prices due to the difficult geopolitical situation in the world. Weather phenomena contribute to the maintenance of prices for blue fuel.
“Currently, the quotes on the main European hub TTF are $1,344 per thousand cubic meters. This means that gas extraction under a contract with Gazprom (the price of the most expensive contract “for a month ahead” in March is about $930 per thousand cubic meters) is still more profitable than buying on the spot,” notes Interfax .
According to the GTS Operator of Ukraine, the nomination as of March 31 was 109.5 million cubic meters, and the application for March 30 was at the same level – 109.5 million cubic meters.
Gas flow through the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline was resumed last night in the forward direction. At the same time, Gazprom ordered significant capacities for pumping – up to 30% of the maximum throughput.
“The first hour of the new gas day, the pipeline also operates in the obverse. The amount of applications for March 31 (forward and backward) also adds up in favor of the direct direction (from Russia to Germany),” Interfax notes.
Nurses rally in Nanaimo to demand action with health-care system ‘in a state of crisis’
Nurses marched past Vancouver Island’s busiest ER today as part of rally to draw attention to a health-care system in crisis.
About 200 nurses from around the Island attended a B.C. Nurses’ Union rally outside Nanaimo Regional General Hospital on Thursday, Nov. 24.
Kelley Charters, council member with the union, said the rally was intended to send a “loud and clear message” to the government and the health authority.
“The health-care system is in a state of crisis, nurses are burning out, exhausted, and we are demanding some action now,” she said.
Charters said hospitals are at 150 per cent capacity and staffing levels are sometimes as low as 50 per cent of what they should be. NRGH’s emergency room, the busiest on the Island, sees more than 230 patients per day, said Charters, with 40 patients there at a time some days. She said people sometimes wait six hours for life-saving medications, and children can wait as long as 10 hours for care.
“Primary care is not accessible, mental health services aren’t accessible and so all those patients come to the ER. It’s really the canary in the coal mine…” she said. “When all the other systems fail, we see all those patients in the emergency room.”
Charters has talked to nurses already tears before their shifts at the thought of what they’re going to walk into. She said it’s “traumatizing” for nurses to know what patients need but seeing those patients face extended wait times.
“Their parents, their kids, their family, themselves, they live in these communities and have to access health care too and they’re really afraid it’s not going to be there for them when they need it,” Charters said.
She worries about what it will mean for the community, and not just Nanaimo – she pointed to urgent care closures and short-staffing in other places on the mid Island and the north Island. She said employers have a retention problem and said more respect and dignity for nurses would be one solution – nurses should be part of more decision-making, she said, and she also thinks different approaches to scheduling, new incentives, and access to mental health supports would improve the status quo.
“We’ve predicted that this crisis was coming for decades,” Charters said. “There’s definitely enough blame, so to speak, to go around.”
The B.C. Nurses’ Union has launched a campaign website and encourage members of the public to visit http://helpbcnurses.ca for more information.
Provincial and territorial health ministers from across Canada met earlier this month to discuss a range of health-care issues including human resource challenges.
“They reviewed the work underway across jurisdictions to capitalize on the training and recruitment of local health professionals, and to better enable the recruitment and licensure of internationally educated health professionals as one important opportunity for progress. They also discussed immediate actions and solutions underway, such as enhancing and modifying scopes of practice, including strategies to retain the existing health workforce…” noted a press release from the B.C. Ministry of Health. “In addition, the ministers recognized the importance of working on collective priorities to develop Canada’s capacity to train health professionals in order to meet health service demand over the coming decade.
