Weather Forecast for Tenerife from 16 to 22 November |

Weather Forecast for 9 to 15 November It was a hot, hot week on Tenerife thanks mainly to the calima which lingered for most of the week and which was uncomfortably thick on Friday to the point it even affected the north more than usual. The predicted possibility of snow on Mount Teide didn’t materialise although I’m pretty sure I spotted one little white patch near the summit on Saturday night, but that might have been the effects of drinking cava at such a high altitude.
Weather Forecast for Tenerife 16 to 22 November The outlook for this week is more typical of November weather with temperatures dropping from Wednesday to seasonal norms, plenty of sunshine everywhere with the south west and north looking best for sunshine hours. However, it’s likely there will be cloudy spells on some days and possibly showers on Wednesday. Sunday is looking most likely for rainfall everywhere… except in Teide National Park.
Weather in South Tenerife – there should be plenty of sunshine around this week but with some cloudy spells. The week will start on the hot side (28C) before dropping to 20/23C in the shade from Wednesday. The only significant cloud could be on Tuesday afternoon and Saturday although there’s a good chance of some rain on Wednesday and Sunday (60/65%).
Weather in North Tenerife – A slightly sunnier week is predicted for the north with only Sunday looking particularly grey, although there will be a 50% chance of rain on Wednesday, 35% on Saturday and 70% on Sunday. Temperatures start the week at 24C before dropping to 19/20C in the shade from Wednesday.
Weather in East Tenerife – Mostly sunny from Monday to Thursday but with a 50% possibility of rain on Wednesday. There will be quite significant cloudy spells from Friday with a 35% chance of rain on Saturday rising to 70% on Sunday.
Weather in South West Tenerife – Much the same as everywhere else with a hot start to the week (28C) before temperatures settle at 21/24C from Wednesday when there’s a 50% chance of rain. Only Saturday should see any decent cloud and Sunday is most likely to see some rain (60%).
Weather in the Mount Teide Crater – Things should be back to normal in Teide National Park where the sun should shine all week apart from Tuesday evening/Wednesday morning when there could be some cloud and even showers. On the summit is should be sunny and calm all week, except for Thursday night when the wind could hit 40kph. Temperatures should hover between 9 and 13C in the crater and 1 and 4C on the summit of Mount Teide.
The Tenerife Weather This Time in 2014 So what happened this time last year? ‘It turned out to be a horrible week in some parts of Tenerife with yellow and orange weather alerts for rain, thunderstorms and wild seas lasting from Tuesday until Sunday.

Winter in the Spanish sun
Software developer Victor Varlamov logs in every morning to work on a sunny Spanish island off the coast of Africa after the prospect of steep heating bills and a winter made harsher by the Ukraine war drove him to leave his adoptive home in Poland. He is not alone in pursuing a warmer, cheaper way of life as tourist boards across southern Europe have seized on the cost-of-living crisis to advertise the benefits of wintering abroad to those living in more northerly countries.
Varmalov, 50, together with his wife and teenage daughter, moved from Poland’s Baltic coast to Gran Canaria in Spain’s Canary Islands two months ago and plans to stay for the coming months. “The economic crisis and mostly the war situation have pushed me here,” said Varmalov, who is Russian by birth. Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February drove some energy prices to record levels in August. They have eased, but are likely to stay high and have led to painful levels of inflation. Before leaving Gdansk, where he has lived since 2016, Varmalov calculated he could save 250 euros ($259) on rent each month and pay 140 euros for all his utilities and internet, instead of the 200 euros he was paying for electricity alone in Poland.
What he now saves, he spends on eating out, he said, and also enjoys beach walks in his lunch breaks. “The reality is better than my expectations,” he said. The regional government of the Canary Islands, where the average winter temperature is 20 degrees Celsius (68°F), launched a social media campaign in September to attract remote workers, such as Varmalov, and retired people from countries including Britain, Germany and Sweden.
“It is no secret this will be a winter of great economic uncertainty in Europe but in the Canary Islands, we want to turn the situation around,” said Yaiza Castilla, the regional tourism chief, describing the islands as an “economic refuge”.
Other southern European countries also see the potential. The Greek tourism minister in September visited Austria and northern European countries, such as Sweden, to “turn this huge energy crisis plaguing Europe into an opportunity”. Portugal’s tourism board has also campaigned and its head Luis Araujo said expectations for winter tourists from northern Europe were “very positive”. Tourism data supports his optimism.
Data collected for Reuters by home rental search engine HomeToGo showed that compared to last year, searches from countries such as Britain, Germany and the Netherlands rose 36%, 13% and 3% for winter accommodation in Spain, Greece and Portugal, respectively. Gabriel Escarrer, CEO of Spanish hotel chain Melia, said people are booking apartments and suites for two or three months this winter in the Canary Islands, with a notable presence of Scandinavian visitors.
‘REFUGE FOR WINTER’ AND BEYOND Visitors and more permanent residents are also arriving from Germany, which was highly dependent on Russian gas before the Ukraine war and is anxious about possible winter energy shortages. Among schools enrolling more students from abroad, the German school in Gran Canaria received 40 applications from foreign students this year, which it said was higher than in previous years without giving precise figures. Repeople, a co-working association in the Canary Islands, said it had been fully booked for November and 80% full for the rest of the winter. Among those occupying a slot at Repeople is 31-year-old German freelancer Heiko Schaefer, who plans to stay until Christmas. “The current rising prices is a reason for many people to move further south,” he said. “This island is a refuge for the winter.” Airlines will increase by 31% the number of seats available to the Canary Islands, the regional tourism office said. TUI fly, the leading airline operating between Germany and the Canary Islands, said it would increase flights by around 10%, adding in a statement energy costs were “a psychological element” in pushing more people south. Airbnb, the short-term rentals firm, said searches for winter stays in southern Europe tripled between April and June.
STUCK AT HOME OR A PERMANENT MOVE For the majority of northern Europeans, however, heading south is just a dream when the rise in living costs means they cannot afford the luxury of travel. Instead they are stocking up on goods to keep themselves warm such as duvets, slow cookers and electric blankets, retail sales figures in Britain show.

November Weather in Gran Canaria, Spain – 2023 – Winter Sun Expert
Gran Canaria is one of Spain’s Canary Islands, off northwestern Africa. This is a small, beautiful island with gorgeous beaches made up of black lava seascapes and white sand beaches that give the essence of the Caribbean. Some of it’s beaches include San Agustín, Anfi del Mar, Playa de Amadores and Gui Gui Beach. In the north, capital city Las Palmas is a major stop for cruise ships and duty-free shopping.

Africagua returns to Fuerteventura in November – Africagua Canarias 2021
The island is the stage of one of the Canary Islands Networking events with greater repercussion for the public and private sectors.
For the sixth time, Fuerteventura will host the biennial International Forum of Water and Renewable Energies Africagua. On November 13th and 14th political and economic representatives from Europe, America and Africa will meet at the Training and Congress Center of Fuerteventura.
An extensive program of conferences will be developed with the participation of different countries, multilateral organizations and companies from the sector. In them, previous experiences related to Water and Renewable Energies will be exposed showing the needs of the participating countries, as well as the applied advances or future plans wanted to be implemented in the African continent.
The participants will also be able to attend B2B meetings previously scheduled, through which they will be able to establish contact with companies and organizations that will allow them to undertake new projects for the future.
All this, makes Africagua one of the events Networking of the Canary Islands with greater impact within the sector of renewable energy and water for both public and private sectors. This scenario allows essential opportunities to establish contacts with new business partners and develop business relationships in the future.
Africagua, platform for internationalization
Due to its geographical location, Canary is positioned as the ideal logistics platform between three continents. And in this sense, Africagua is the key on making the archipelago the gateway to Africa, for countries of both Europe and America. Therefore, the participating companies are given the opportunity to identify and develop business opportunities in the African continent, with projects linked to the sector in question.
These reasons and more have stimulated interest in attending the sixth edition of this forum by representatives of Senegal, Cape Verde, Equatorial Guinea, Mauritania, Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya, United States, Gambia and Morocco. The prices fall of renewable energies opens a key opportunity for the development of Africa. This was stated by the Secretary General of the World Energy Council (WEC), Christoph Frei to EFE at the recent Africa Energy Indaba conference, held in Johannesburg.
The current moment is crucial for the African continent to join the cheapening of renewable energies, through the enormous solar opportunities in its central strip. In other places, such as the Democratic Republic of the Congo or Ethiopia, its large hydroelectric dams such as Inga and Renacimiento stand out, respectively. The United Nations data indicates that currently there are one billion people in the world without access to electricity, mostly in sub-Saharan Africa and in rural areas. The use of renewable energies would be an enormous opportunity for these regions of the continent.
The Africagua International Forum of Water and Renewable Energies is a biennial event organized by the Chamber of Commerce of Fuerteventura, Cabildo of Fuerteventura, Casa Africa, Technological Institute of the Canary Islands (ITC), Proexca and the Government of the Canary Islands.

Made up of volcanic soil and completely void of vegetation, the extreme roughness and quirky rock formations, along with the red-hued earth, will feel otherworldly.
During the guided tour, you’ll visit the breathtaking Montaña Rajada where you can observe a vast sea of lava that spreads out to the coast. Its impressive undulations and shapes are all uniquely formed by the lava flow. But perhaps what is most impressive of all is the way the local people have learned to coexist with this unusual, barren landscape.
Day 9: Day Trip to La Graciosa – Cave Experience
Sandy Streets of La Graciosa
After a leisurely breakfast at your hotel, make your way to the small port of Orzola for a day trip to the island of La Graciosa. Riding a bike is a great way to get some exercise and learn the layout of this amazing little island. Take time to wander, get lost, and try some of the local products in the shops, boutiques, and restaurants lining the beaches.
Leave the main town behind and enjoy the surrounding countryside, which has a number of fantastic trails and footpaths. In the afternoon, you’ll return to the ferry and head back to Lanzarote. Upon your arrival, opt to visit the house-museum, The Mirador del Rio, or the fascinating Cueva Jameos del Agua caves, envisioned by artist and architect César Manrique.
Day 10: Fly From Lanzarote to Madrid
Lanzarote, Canary Islands, Spain
It’s time to say hasta luego to the stunning Canary Islands. After breakfast, you’ll head to the airport to catch your flight from Arrecife back to the bustling capital of Madrid.
If you didn’t already see some of Madrid’s highlights at the beginning of the trip, consider the following for your last night in the bustling city:
Peruse the world-famous museum, El Prado.
Row a boat around the lake in El Retiro park.
Discover the favorite fuentes of Neptune Fountain, Fuente de Cibeles, Apollo Fountain, and Fuente de los Galápagos.
Enjoy the evening lights of the Royal Palace, the Dobod Temple, and Plaza España.
When you’re finished wandering the city, settle into a cafe for some tapas before dinner. With so many options, it’s best to be your own explorer. Grab a small beer (caña) or a small glass of wine (tinto) at numerous spots. Just meander and discover!
Day 11: Depart Madrid
Aerial View of Beautiful Madrid
In the morning, enjoy one final breakfast in Spain before your driver transfers you to the airport. Here you can catch your flight home or to your next destination.

Tenerife, Lanzarote or Fuerteventura? How to find the best Canary Islands holiday for you this winter
You’ve probably seen footage of the volcano on La Palma, but the eruptions have only – briefly – closed its airport, with the seven other Canary Islands very much open.
With no need for the double vaccinated, or under-12s, to test on the way out the Canaries are an enticing prospect for a winter sun escape, whether you seek a beach break, adventure or art.
Fuerteventura – the best beaches
This sinewy isle is draped with a beach at every turn and they’re the stuff of glossy brochures. The Corralejo Dunes look more Caribbean than Canarian. Corralejo is the pick of the resorts too, as it’s still a Canarian village with a more authentic vibe than Caleta de Fuste or Morro Jable. It’s home to a string of white sand wonders, but for sands entirely to yourself hike west towards the fishing village of El Cotillo. Numerous white sand coves are punctuated by craggy volcanic rocks and views to Lanzarote.
After a £1m revamp, Corralejo’s Bahiazul Villas & Club offers the best of both worlds: luxury self-catering with the services of a hotel. Villas sleeping six from €232.
Tenerife – the all-rounder
The largest Canary isle has it all – the Unesco World Heritage town of La Laguna, the world’s second biggest carnival after Rio, a mountain (Teide) almost three times higher than Ben Nevis and world-class seafood.
A string of sultry southern beach resorts in the south caters to more than six million sun-seeking Europeans a year, leaving the rest of the island blissfully untouched. In Siam Park and Loro Parque you also have two of Europe’s top family attractions.
Hotel Botanico offers old-world luxury in the quieter northern resort town of Puerto de la Cruz. It reopened in August after renovations and has a great spa and Thai restaurant. Doubles from €220 (£188).
Gran Canaria – the adventure playground
With its remarkable scenic diversity, from the sweeping sand dunes of Maspalomas, through to thick laurel forests and rugged, bare mountains, the Canarios hail Gran Canaria as the “Continent in Miniature”; the whole island is a Unesco Biosphere Reserve.
The capital, Las Palmas, is a vibrant port city with hints of Rio in its carnival, sandy beach boulevard and laid-back vibe.
The most popular resorts are in the south, with hikers drawn inland to the Tamadaba Natural Park. The isle is great for road cycling and mountain biking; professional teams train here. As do football teams. In the water, it’s surfing, windsurfing and kiteboarding alongside stand up paddleboarding.
Seaside Hotels operates the family-friendly Hotel Palm Beach (doubles from €217) and the even more luxurious Grand Hotel Residencia, both by the Maspalomomas dunes (doubles from €355).

Lanzarote – the chic choice
This is the most chic of the Canaries, thanks to visionary local architect César Manrique – the Canarian Gaudí – who conjured up waves of striking buildings and viewpoints, while preventing high-rise hotels. Whitewashed villages such as Teguise and Haria still feel timeless, as do the vineyards where Malvasia vines have been grown since the days when Shakespeare eulogised “Malmsey”.
The h20 Rubicon Palace is the best hotel in the relaxed southern resort of Playa Blanca; doubles from €132.
La Gomera – the hiker’s haven
Stick on your boots and catch the ferry from Tenerife. The capital of San Sebastian de la Gomera’s claim to fame is that it was the last place Columbus stopped en route to the Americas.
The real treasures lie inland as Garajonay National Park spreads its beautifully bucolic tentacles, including some of the best-preserved laurel forests: more Jurassic Park than theme park. A gruelling, but deeply rewarding option is a village-to-village self-guided hike with Macs Adventure (eight days from £755pp excluding flights).
Parador de la Gomera is a stately wooden dame with epic views out over the Atlantic and back to Tenerife’s Teide. Doubles from €130.
El Hierro coastline (Photo: Daniel Gonzalez/Getty)
El Hierro – the final frontier
You have to really want to get to El Hierro, the western Canarian outlier. It’s almost three hours by ferry from Tenerife, or a flight from Tenerife’s less used northern airport. The effort is repaid with an island different to the rest of the archipelago.
Valverde is the only inland capital, and at 600m it is often referred to as “The Village Above the Clouds”. The fishing village of La Restinga offers boat-fresh seafood and a nearby interpretation centre, which investigates the 2011 eruption that came within metres of creating another Canary Isle.
Parador de El Hierro is fittingly for El Hierro, at the end of one-way road to the end of the world. Great sea views and doubles from €115 .
La Graciosa – the Crusoe isle
The “newest” Canary Island was designated in 2018. This is proper holiday adventure as you bash across the Atlantic from Lanzarote. Tarmac roads are replaced by sandy tracks on La Graciosa, 4x4s eking around the “streets” of the only village, Caleta de Sebo.
Breaking off into the wilds, cycle to the northern volcanoes. Real Robinson Crusoes will spy the distant rough necklace of islets just to the north, accessible on private boat trips if you want to sail even further off the tourist map.
Should You Visit Fuerteventura or Lanzarote?
I have a confession to make: when I was invited to explore the islands of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, I had to go straight to Google Maps to find out where these destinations were. In case you’re also wondering, they’re in the Canary Islands which, although owned by Spain, are situated off the coast of Morocco.
Geography aside, I still wasn’t sure what to expect when I arrived on the islands of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, and whether there would even be a difference between the two.
Although the two do have some things in common (similar climates, culture and food, for example), there are many differences as well. Knowing what to expect in each destination will help you choose which one is right for you, or whether to visit both. So without further ado, let me answer the question I was asked most about my trip – Fuerteventura or Lanzarote: which island in the Canaries should you visit?
Fuerteventura: the essentials
The tiny island of Fuerteventura is 1,660 square kilometres of fascinating scenery and pristine beaches. Hugging the edge of this volcanic piece of land is a shoreline that sun seekers flock to. The resort towns of Correlejo in the north and Playa del Matorral in the south are some of the most popular beach destinations, but a short drive in any direction will reveal plenty more unbelievable stretches of coast on which to relax.
Some beaches are rocky, some sandy, and many black from volcanic grains, but the water is a brilliant blue and the sun shines for 320 days of the year so it’s no surprise that so many people come here for all-inclusive breaks without ever leaving the confines of their resort.
It would be a mistake not to explore though, if only because there are few places in the world that are so unique. Fuerteventura was formed some twenty million years ago when volcanic activity under the ocean caused molten magma to rise to the surface. There it cooled, birthing the Canary Islands, on which you often feel like you’re on another planet entirely.
Not much grows in the arid interior of this island. Some muted green bushes can be spotted at intervals and the odd palm tree stands in solitude against an ochre backdrop. But on the whole, time feels like it’s been left behind in a destination where traffic lights are a novelty and conservation is prioritised over development.
What to see and do in Fuerteventura
To make the most of your visit, rent a car at the airport and start with the big picture by heading up Tegu Mountain to Morro Velosa, where you can enjoy a sweeping panorama over the mountains to the brilliant blue waters across the island. The museum inside offers an insight into how the island was formed, how the locals survive and the ecological challenges faced by Fuerteventura.
From here, stop in the quaint town of Betancuria to admire the cathedral and enjoy a tasty lunch at Casa Santa Maria.
The old fishing harbour of El Cotillo is well worth a visit to wander among its blue and white houses that make you feel like you’ve stepped into a traditional Greek town. There’s no longer a fishing trade, but the restaurants still serve the daily catch straight from the ocean, and it’s the perfect location to watch the sun set with an icy cold drink in hand.
Nearby is the towering red and white lighthouse of Tostón, standing sentry on its black rocky beach, now a conservation park.
If this all sounds a bit too tame, head straight for Playa Sotavento, home of the world windsurfing championship, to try your hand at an aquatic sport. Lobos Island, best reached by ferry from Corralejo, is known for its excellent snorkelling, but you can spot marine life wherever you step into the water around Fuerteventura.
If you’re staying in Correlejo, be sure to spend some time sinking your toes into the bright white sands of Parque Natural de Corralejo, a rolling sea of dunes, where you’ll be sure to capture plenty of Instagram-worthy photos. Look out for goats while you’re there!
Best for: Nature lovers and beach seekers Where to stay: Gran Hotel Atlantis Bahia Real, a 5 star hotel with a stunning private beach Visit in: October, for perfect temperatures without the summer crowds or springtime winds Don’t forget to pack: Your swimsuit & sunscreen
Lanzarote: the essentials
Stepping off the ferry, it was immediately apparent that Lanzarote is not just a duplicate of Fuerteventura, which sits just 15 kilometres away. The water is every bit as blue, the mountains just as volcanic and the interior equally arid, but it looks and feels completely different to its neighbour. Lanzarote is jam-packed with changing terrain, picturesque towns, art, museums, the world’s strangest wine region and fascinating reminders of the power of nature.
The volcanic activity here resulted in black, thick lava oozing across the landscape or tumbling in large chunks from the mountains to the sea, creating dramatic black cliffs and moon-like vistas as far as the eye can see.
What to see and do in Lanzarote
Like Fuerteventura, you’ll need a car to explore the best bits of this island. Be sure to make a stop at Los Hervideros – the name translates to ‘boiling pots’, and it’s from here that you can watch waves crash against the black cliffs and listen to the thunderous roaring of the ocean from lava balconies that punctuate the rocks.
Not far from here is Lago Verde, a bright green lake formed in a volcanic crater that extends into the ocean. The surrounding cliffs are black waves of lava and fiery red sand, and the resulting scene is a kaleidoscope of colour and texture that needs to be seen to be believed. Head down the hill to El Golfo for a meal at one of the small fish restaurants perched on the black beach.
A visit to Timanfaya National Park is a must, although to get the most out of it, a walking tour is essential (if you choose a bus tour you won’t be allowed to exit the vehicle). At the visitor centre you can experience a demonstration showing the heat that remains under the island’s surface, with temperatures reaching up to 700 degrees Celsius just 13 metres below your feet.
The influence of Lanzarote’s most famous artist resident, César Manrique, is visible across the island, with plenty of public sculptures and monuments highlighting the natural beauty of this destination. Mirador del Rio, a lookout and cafe designed by Manrique, is well worth a visit for the breathtaking view over the Chinijo Archipelago.
The artist’s style is best discovered at César Manrique Foundation, the house he designed and lived in, located in the heart of a dramatic lava field. Now a museum and art gallery displaying works from Picasso, Miro, Manrique and many more Spanish artists, even the least arty person will enjoy walking through the quirky rooms that make you feel at one with the spectacular landscape of Lanzarote.
Best for: Adventure seekers and culture lovers Where to stay: The brand new boutique La Isla Y El Mar Hotel or legendary sports hub Club La Santa When to visit: As with Fuerteventura, October is an ideal time to visit this island Don’t forget to pack: Trainers and your camera
Lanzarote and Fuerteventura are so different that it’s well worth visiting both. For a seven day break, start in Fuerteventura and stay in Gran Hotel Atlantis Bahia Real, a five star hotel in Correlejo from which you can unwind and take day trips to explore different sights across the island.
Linger for three days and then catch the ferry to Lanzarote for four more days of exploration and adventure. With an abundance of incredible cuisine, otherworldly scenery and beaches begging to be relaxed upon, the only thing you’ll be worried about is catching the flight home at the end of your trip.
Huge thanks to the Spanish Tourist Office, Lanzarote Tourist Board and Fuerteventura Tourist Board for showing me around these two spectacular islands.

6 Things to Do in Algarve in November, Portugal
Traveling to Algarve in November is a wonderful time to visit if you know what to expect. It’s firmly offseason. Beaches are empty, temperatures are mild, hotel prices are low, and you can secure dinner reservations anywhere.
It’s an especially excellent time to go hiking, as the air is balmy and daytime temperatures hover around 18°C.
November isn’t a great month for a beach holiday. There will definitely be a few days that merit long hours at the beach, but most of the time, it’s just a bit too crisp.
Therefore, we wouldn’t recommend designing your trip around a single beach resort town. If the weather isn’t ideal, then you’ll be bored out of your mind.
Because the “tourist season” has ended, some establishments in Southern Portugal start closing up for the holidays early in the month. That didn’t impact our trip too much, but it made eating out a bit difficult.
Algarve Temperature in November
Olhão
The Algarve temp in November is very mild. In summer, the heat can be very oppressive and discourage you from exploring any place other than the beaches.
So, Fall is a great time to take advantage of the milder temperatures and get to know Algarve’s inland villages and coastal trails.
The sun sets around 5:30 p.m. As soon as it does, you’ll be grabbing your sweater and jacket. It gets chilly. Even wearing sandals at night felt too cold.
Daytime temperatures in Algarve in November range from 17°C – 19°C (62°F – 66.2°F). Nighttime temperatures range from 11°C – 14°C (51.8°F – 57.2°F).
Algarve Weather in November
We were in Algarve from early to mid-November. In general, the weather was very stable.
We had beautiful sunny skies with some cloud coverage almost every day. It rained only twice during our trip. The rainfall was sporadic, not continuous.
The forecast for the end of November (in 2019) showed more rainfall. Though, the temperatures remained the same throughout the month.

1. Walk the Seven Hanging Valleys Trail
Seven Hanging Valleys Trail
November is the perfect month to hike along Algarve’s Atlantic coastline. Because temperatures are mild throughout the day and parking isn’t a problem, you can start whenever you want.
One of the most popular walks in the Algarve is the Seven Hanging Valleys Trail. This coastal route stretches between the beaches of Praia da Marinha and Praia de Vale Centianes.
Read our Seven Hanging Valleys trail guide to find out where to start, where to eat, and which direction to hike in first.
2. Go on a Southern Portugal Road Trip
Loulé
November is a great month to explore Algarve on a road trip. Unlike the summer months, the climate is very agreeable and allows for active exploration.
While beach destinations are definitely the highlight of any trip to Algarve, you could explore and stay in inland towns as well.
You won’t be roasted by the sun if you visit the towns of Silves, São Brás de Alportel, Castro Marim, Loulé, and Alte.
Read our Algarve road trip itinerary for trip planning inspiration.
3. Grab a Cocktail at Rei das Praias
Praia dos Caneiros
Rei das Praias is a beach restaurant and bar situated at the hidden Praia dos Caneiros in Ferragudo. In summer, it’s really difficult to secure a reservation here, but in November, it’s blissfully quiet.
You can enjoy the golden beach of Praia dos Caneiros, before grabbing a cocktail, or dinner at Rei das Praias. And, if you’re keen on more coastal hiking, a beautiful trail starts right here (see below).
Tip: Stay at Caneiros Luxury House & Suites. From the hotel, it’s a short walk to Rei das Praias and Praia dos Caneiros.
4. Hike the Trail of Headlands
Trail of Headlands
Another fantastic hiking trail in Algarve is the Trail of the Headlands. The trail clings to the coast between the beaches of Praia dos Caneiros (Ferragudo) and Praia do Carvoeiro.
This is a fantastic walking route that very few people know about. You can read more about it in our Best Hikes in Portugal post.
5. Watch the Sunset at Praia dos Arrifes
Praia dos Arrifes
Praia dos Arrifes is a blue flag beach in Albufeira municipality. Dominated by three isolated rock formations, this dramatic beachscape makes for a fantastic photography spot during sunset.
When we were staying in Sao Rafael, we walked to Praia dos Arrifes for sunset. Our only company was a lone fisherman waiting to catch his dinner.
6. Where to Stay in Algarve in November
The best places to Stay in Algarve in November are Ferragudo, Carvoeiro, or Lagos.

Stay in Ferragudo
If you want a quiet holiday with a local vibe
Ferragudo is a whitewashed fishing village, situated at the mouth of the Arade River. It’s directly across from Portimão, though it couldn’t be more different.
Ferragudo retains its character with great ease. There are no tacky tourist shops or hideous megahotels here. If you’re looking for a quiet place to stay, that feels more local than touristic, stay in Ferragudo.
Though quiet, Ferragudo was not empty in November. Locals drink coffee in snack bars and children run home from school.
Midrange | The impeccably-run One2Seven offers a range of bright and clean double rooms and apartments in the historic center of Ferragudo. The aparthotel’s central location affords easy access to multiple restaurants, the Arade River, Praia da Angrinha, and Fort of São João do Arade. Guests love the swimming pool, fitness center, and terrace breakfast.
Caneiros Luxury House & SuitesPraia dos CaneirosCaneiros Luxury House & Suites
Luxury | We loved staying at Caneiros Luxury House & Suites, a boutique hotel in Ferragudo. We loved the comfort of our room, the professionalism of the staff, the overall design of the hotel, and our daily breakfast on the terrace. We have nothing but the highest praise for this accommodation.
Caneiros Luxury House & Suites is also a 5-minute walk to Praia dos Caneiros, the most beautiful beach in Ferragudo. Here, you can watch the sunset, enjoy a drink at Rei das Praias, and walk along the coast (Trail of Headlands).
More options: Hotel Rural Brícia Du Mar (midrange), or Vila Castelo Parque (luxury)
Look for accommodation in Ferragudo.
Stay in Carvoeiro
If you want to do lots of coastal walking
Carvoeiro is a scenic coastal town in the Algarve. It’s one of those few places where the development actually enhances the coast’s natural beauty.
Flanked by limestone cliffs topped with houses, the Carvoeiro Beach is picture-perfect from every possible angle. Its beauty is simultaneously timeless and nostalgic.
November is the perfect month to stay in Carvoeiro. In summer, it’s super busy here. But, in fall it’s perfect. Furthermore, if you stay in Carvoeiro, you can walk to Ferragudo along the Trail of Headlands. You can also walk along the boardwalk and to the start of the Seven Hanging Valleys Trail.
Budget | O Quintal Guesthouse is a darling, light-filled B&B in the center of Carvoeiro. Guests have access to a shared kitchen, lounge, and terrace.
Midrange | O Castelo Guest House offers spotless rooms with gorgeous sea views. The location is outstanding – close to the beach and city center (restaurants). Excellent Staff & Service.
Luxury | Tivoli Carvoeiro is a newly-renovated hotel in Carvoeiro. There is no better option for travelers seeking comfort and convenience. As a guest, you can enjoy two swimming pools and a spa center. You’ll also be treated to cliff and ocean views from your room (opt for sea view) and the hotel’s various bars (there are three). And, if you’re seeking a no-hassle vacation, you can book half board (breakfast and dinner included). Tivoli Carvoeiro has 3 on-site restaurants.
More options: Placid Village (midrange), Carvoeiro B&B and SPA (midrange), Quinta Nova Vale Del Rey (midrange), or Quinta do Ourives (luxury)
Look for accommodation in Carvoeiro.
Stay in Lagos
If you want a vibrant scene
Praia do Camilo
Lagos is a vibrant town and a great base in the Algarve for couples, friends, and families. Dining and cuisine options are unlimited. You can eat Mexican, Hawaiian, Indian, and the list goes on.
While many places in the Algarve in November feel empty and sleepy, Lagos doesn’t at all.
Budget | Hotel Mar Azul is a no-frills hotel in the center of Lagos. It’s basic but clean and comfortable. The location can’t be better.
Midrange | 3 Marias Guest House is a top-rated bed and breakfast in Lagos with a wonderful rooftop terrace. The rooms are simple but extremely clean and comfortable. The breakfast is extraordinary.
Luxury | Casa Mãe is a superb hotel in Lagos with an on-site restaurant, bar, swimming pool, and garden. Rooms are airy and designed thoughtfully. This the perfect place to stay for a romantic getaway, honeymoon, or anniversary.
More options: Boutique Taghostel (budget), Vi Mar Guesthouse (midrange), Lagos Atlantic Hotel (luxury), Vivenda Solmar (luxury), or Fazenda Viegas (luxury)
Look for accommodation in Lagos.

Tenerife’s 7 bright autumn attractions
Spending autumn in the Canary Islands is a great idea! The island will meet you with warm water in the ocean and the first lush greenery. In autumn, in Tenerife, you can enjoy both a beach holiday and other types of entertainment.

A walk under the chestnut trees
The mountain slopes in the north of the island turn yellow with the onset of autumn and are dotted with chestnut fruits – interesting prickly brown balls. Such an atmosphere is the best conducive to taking walks along the chestnut routes. Many chestnuts can be seen in Anaga, in the Guimar Valley, in Tacoronte and in Puerto de la Cruz.
Halloween in Tenerife
The Night of the Dead is widely celebrated on the island. On Halloween, which is familiar to us, parties are held here everywhere, to which it is customary to appear in an appropriate costume. Both a nightclub and a family restaurant can become a place for celebration. Enough fun for everyone.
An original way to celebrate Halloween in Tenerife is to go on a night hike and tickle each other’s nerves with scary stories told in a moonlight tent.
Andromeda Galaxy for star lovers
Tenerife will not be able to admire the Milky Way in late autumn. But in October – November you can look at the Andromeda galaxy. It is located between Pegasus and Cassiopeia, appears in an easterly direction and moves further across the sky.
Mushroom picking
In October and November it rains a lot on the island, so every couple of warm days is a start signal for everyone who loves “silent hunting”. The most “mushroom” places are the mountains and the caldera above Candelaria and Arafo. Experienced mushroom pickers recommend the Esperanza area and Las Lagunetas.
Mushroom picking can be combined with a pleasant walk through the autumn forest. However, it is worth considering that for the official collection of mushrooms, permission from the authorities is required.
Rivers and canals
The first autumn rains fill streams and streams flowing in gorges and ravines. Hiking trails open up in a new direction as water flows and spreads everywhere. An excellent route for such a walk will be the trail from the ponds of Erjos and Monte del Agua. It is also worth admiring the scenery after the rains in the northwestern part of the island in the areas of Teno and Buenavista del Norte.
New wine
November is the time for tasting local wines from the new harvest. It is best to combine them with cheeses and chestnuts. The choice of wines in Tenerife is excellent, and the prices are quite affordable.
