November Temperature Outlook: Cool in the Southeast, Warm in the Rockies and Northeast

  • Warmer than average temperatures are expected in November in the southern Rockies and the Northeast.
  • The Southeast may experience cooler than average temperatures this November.

Although November is expected to start cold for many in the Lower 48, warmer than average temperatures are still anticipated across much of the northern tier into the Southwest for the rest of the month.

Temperatures will be above average in the Northeast, particularly in New England, and from Wyoming southward to Arizona and New Mexico this November according to an updated outlook released Friday by The Weather Company, an IBM Business. Slightly above-average temperatures will extend into parts of the Plains, Northern Rockies and the upper Midwest.

Cooler than average conditions are expected for much of the Southeast from Mississippi to the Carolinas, while much of the West Coast, mid-Atlantic, Ohio Valley and portions of the southern Plains, Gulf Coast and Florida Peninsula may trend near to slightly cooler than average in November.

A large portion of this forecast can be accredited to the development of La Niña.

La Niña is the periodic cooling of the equatorial Pacific Ocean waters, which depending on its strength, can influence weather patterns across the globe, including in the U.S.

Above-average temperatures are typical across much of the Lower 48 in November when La Niña has developed. This is especially true in the Plains from Texas to the Dakotas to Wisconsin.

Only the southern Florida Peninsula tends to have a cooler than average November in a La Niña year.

However, this November could be an exception to typical La Niña trends.

“The forecast would represent the coldest La Nina November since 2010,” said Todd Crawford, director of meteorology at Atmospheric G2.

Early November models show the cold start to the month.

Current models depict an upper-level trough, or southward dip of the jet stream, over a good chunk of the Lower 48, indicating cooler than average temperatures. A ridge or northward bulge in the jet stream is also likely over parts of the West at times, suggesting warmer than average temperatures.

These models helped play a role in the current forecast for November.

“We’ve made colder adjustments to the November forecast to more closely align with our current 6-15 day and sub-seasonal forecasts,” Crawford said.

This pattern change early in the month is expected to be temporary, according to computer forecast models.

Typical November Temperatures

Cold temperatures become more common across the northern tier of the U.S. in November, with average highs dropping into the 30s and 40s.

In the South, 60s are typical highs in November, with 70s in the Desert Southwest, near the Gulf Coast and the northern two-thirds of Florida. South Florida typically enjoys 80s for highs.

November lows typically plunge into the 20s and 30s in the north, with teens in the Rockies and northern Plains.

Lows in the South usually bottom out in the 40s, with 50s near the Gulf Coast and 60s in central and South Florida.

The Weather Company’s primary journalistic mission is to report on breaking weather news, the environment and the importance of science to our lives.

What clothes should I pack for Lanzarote?

Natalie

TOP TIPS

We have been keeping our own records of the weather since 2008 and whilst we would never recommend you bringing an umbrella, it goes without saying that you should pack and apply sun cream all year round but what clothes should you pack for Lanzarote?

January & February

January and February are our coolest months of the year, with the typical daytime temperatures ranging from 19 to 24 degrees and the evenings can drop to 10 degrees, although 15 to 17 is more like it.  We tend to get around 5 days of short sharp bursts of rain in January and 3- 4 days worth during February.

You can wear beach wear, shorts and flip flops on most days but you will want a light cardigan, jacket or fleece for some days and you will need trousers and a couple of layers for the evenings.  We would also recommend you bringing a waterproof.

Haria

March & April

The sun starts to really warm up during March and April. March can be a mixed bag of cloud and sunshine but you will still burn. We will typically see around 5 days of cloud during the month of April and the daytime temperatures range from 21 to 26 degrees for both months, although we have seen 30 on the odd occasion!

Here’s what to pack for Lanzarote – Beach wear, shorts and t shirts are great for the day and although the evenings remain fairly warm you may want to consider a light top for later into the evenings.

May

The mornings often start with some cloud coverage, but this is generally burnt off for the afternoon and evening.  The temperatures range from 22 – 26 degrees, although we have had spells into the 30’s.  The nights can be a little windy, with the temperate dropping to 17 degrees.  It rarely rains during May, but if it does it will be a short burst.

Beach wear, shorts and t shirts are ideal for May and unless you are a very cold person you won’t need an extra layer for the evenings.

La Corona Guinate

June, July and August

Typical June and July temperatures are 26 – 32 degrees but it can climb to the mid 30’s and we have even seen the 40’s!  August is the hottest month of the year and we average 10 hours of sunshine a day, the nights rarely fall below 20 degrees and during the day we enjoy 29 – 35 degrees.

Wear the lightest clothes you have!  Forget fleeces, coats and even trousers and jeans!  Simply pack shorts, swimwear, t shirts, summer dresses and hats. Summer is a lightweight month when you pack for Lanzarote!

September and October

Temperatures range from 28 to 34 degrees and the nights start to cool to around 18 degrees in September and 15 to 18 degrees in October.

Beach wear, shorts and t shirts are great for the day and you may want to consider a light cardigan for the evenings.  The UV is very high during September so you may wish to wear a hat.  You won’t need a waterproof for September but you may want to consider it for October, although we tend to only get around 2 days of light rain.

November and December

We tend to see 18 to 28 degrees in the day falling to 14 to 17 degrees at night.  December is also the month you are mostly likely to see rain on the island but to put it into perspective, we only get 29MM of rain on average each December and even less in November.

Swimwear as well as shorts and t shirts will be fine for the day but you will need a fleece or light jacket for the evenings and a waterproof.

Guide for your holidays in Fuerteventura this 2020

Fuerteventura

  • Posted by

    juliancontreras

Apr

The Canary Islands is one of the best destinations to travel to at any time of the year. However, the most west-facing islands (Tenerife, La Palma and Gran Canaria) experience rains, something that does not happen in Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. In these two islands the sun stays throughout the year and this makes them the ideal islands to visit at any time of the year. But, you still don’t know when to prepare your trip to Fuerteventura? We give you the keys to make up your mind and choose the best time for you.

Travel to Fuerteventura in winter

Winter is perhaps the best time to visit Fuerteventura and enjoy your holidays in 2020. The temperature continues to be warm but most importantly, you will be alone on many of the beaches and you will be able to enjoy the activities that Fuerteventura offers as the influx of Tourism during the winter months is less.

However, the leisure offer is completely the same, and you can have a different view of the island because the passers-by you see are probably the majoreros who live on the island.

What can you do in winter?

  • Fuerteventura’s main attraction is its beaches and the temperatures invite you to take a walk and even take a bath. However, the bravest are the ones who dare since the water is quite cold and staying in the water for a while is not suitable for everyone.
  • Visit their villages. Fuerteventura has many towns, very charming. In the north, we recommend El Cotillo, Corralejo or Lajares. Puerto del Rosario, capital of the island of Fuerteventura, is a must-see. Nearby you can visit Betancuria, the least populated town, but it does not have less charm, it was the old capital of the island and has a great history. And in the southern area we recommend: Gran Tarajal, Ajui, Costa Calma or Morro Jable.
  • Do hiking trails. Winter is the best time to do hiking trails both on foot and by bike. The warm but not very high temperatures allow you to hike without suffering on the way due to the heat and the sun.
  • If you visit the island between October and December, dare to surf, since it is the time that professionals recommend to go into the water and ride the waves of the Atlantic.

What do I have to know before I go?

  • The average temperature in the winter months is 20ºC maximum and 14ºC minimum.
  • Between November and January it rains about 7 days a month, with December being the month in which it rains the most.
  • Wear light clothing. During the day you can go with long pants and a short-sleeved shirt, but at night the temperatures drop and a sweater or something (fine) coat will not be left over.

Travel to Fuerteventura in spring

Did you know that Fuerteventura is called “the island of eternal spring”? In this season, temperatures rise but we can still participate and carry out the different activities that the island offers without fear of crowds. In addition, winds are moderate so sightseeing is more bearable.

What can you do in spring?

  • Set an excursion to Isla de Lobos. The good weather and temperature will allow you to enjoy it as if it were summer, but with the advantage that there will be half the tourists.
  • Make a stop to rest at the Mirador las Peñitas located in Betancuria. Breathing fresh air while the sun’s rays hit your body is one of the best sensations.
  • Alternate the visit to the beaches with the visit to important monuments and buildings during your holidays in Fuerteventura.
  • Take one of the Verdeaurora Bio Farm experiences. Through the Bio Farm Experience you will delve a little deeper into the culture and customs of the people.

What do I have to know before I go?

  • The average temperature in the spring months (April and May) is 25ºC maximum and 15ºC minimum.
  • The water temperature is 19ºC so you can cool off and enjoy the island’s beaches.
  • Wear summer clothes since the temperatures are high during the day, however, put long pants and a fine sweater in the suitcase since at night you will need to put it on to enjoy the majorera night.
Travel to Fuerteventura in summer

In summer you will find the crowded island of tourists from Germany and Britain for the most part. But if you have chosen the Canary Island to spend your summer holidays we are going to make these days unforgettable and want to repeat.

What can you do in summer?

  • Surely you have chosen Fuerteventura for its beaches and it is no wonder. In summer we usually look for beach and sun holidays and Fuerteventura is one of the best destinations. Surrounded by sea on its four sides you can search and find the beaches that you like the most, the ones that are closest to your preferences and even your perfect beach.
  • Go surfing. Summer and Fuerteventura are synonymous with surfing, you cannot leave the island without climbing on a board and having ridden a few waves. On the promenades of the beaches you will find numerous surf schools with levels for everyone.
  • Rest from a long day at the beach at Casa Aurora. But first, stop by a supermarket and fill your cart with typical island products. Prepare a dinner under the sky of Fuerteventura, Starlight Reserve.
  • Visit the end of Fuerteventura, Punta de Jandía, and enjoy the sunset at its lighthouse.

What do I have to know before I go?

  • The average temperature in the summer months (June, July and August) is 29ºC maximum and 19ºC minimum.
  • The wind that blows from Africa make the temperatures softer.
  • Wear summer clothes. Don’t forget your swimsuits and bikinis! You won’t take them off on every vacation. We recommend that you pack a fine knit jacket or sweater for the nights. You never know if it will be necessary.

Looks of the week: how to dress in November

Feels like November is no longer autumn, but not yet winter. In Russia, this month is unpredictable in terms of weather: it may snow, or it may be dry and sunny. How to dress in November?

To be admired

Style is forever, which means nothing should stop you from dressing in style. Whatever the weather, continue to impress with your energy, confident gait and, of course, a beautiful outfit. Who knows, maybe on this cloudy day you will become someone’s muse and inspiration! In this way, for sure! nine0003

So that both in the feast and in the world

November walk will sooner or later take us to a cafe, where we will take off our heavy outerwear and warm ourselves with the heat of freshly brewed coffee. If you are wearing the warmest sweater you have, there is a good chance that you will get very hot soon. On such days, it is better to rely on outerwear, and make the lower layer lighter so that it is warm outside and comfortable indoors. nine0003

November is the month for the implementation of the most daring fashion ideas. Designers have already talked about the latest trends, new collections are ready for purchase, the weather is not yet raging, and bloggers and influencers have demonstrated the most relevant and applicable combinations to life. We just need to be inspired and put everything we have learned into practice. How? Let’s start with silhouettes.

Silhouettes

This season, the modern classic, which is also called the bourgeois style, is more relevant than ever. How to apply images familiar from cult films and photography? You can not be afraid of extremes and choose straight-cut trousers with wide legs or with a noticeable flare. We recommend girdling jackets to emphasize the waist – the only thing that can remain free this autumn is jumpers. It is better to abandon fitted options in favor of straight ones – you can wear them tucked into jeans or plaid trousers, creating flirty gathers. The bow will be completed with a fashionable cocoon coat of rich deep color, which should be chosen from warm fabrics. You can pay attention to models with wide lapels – and use them as a scarf. nine0003

Colors

Anyone can become bright this fall – even an office worker whose dress code says to dress modestly. This is because this time the designers put colors on a pedestal that harmoniously fit into a business outfit. These include white, beige, camel, navy blue, dark purple, all shades of wine and brown. If the management is not forbidden, you can add bright details that differ in color from the main outfit – for example, choose an azure handbag for a wine suit, and dilute the brown look with burgundy ankle boots. If not, make-up will help to create a color block – red lipstick will add chic to almost any look. To create a spectacular look no worse than Victoria Beckham and Kendall Jenner, we adopt a technique called ombre. Clothes are selected in one color, only the shade of each detail changes. For example, a red hat, then a slightly lighter scarf, a tone paler than a coat and dusty pink shoes. A win-win! nine0003

The second trick is the term Nude Total Look, which literally refers to the choice of clothes only in beige. Almost all designers order to look cozy and stylish – there is no reason to argue with them, especially since today in almost every store you can find a light coat, a beige knitted hat, a voluminous scarf, white trousers and light leather boots that are not afraid of wet weather. It should be worn all together, playing along with the Scandinavian fashionistas, because the image was peeped from them. nine0003

Bags

Bags are gradually losing their importance as a status accessory. Practicality is in fashion. In order not to miscalculate, you should choose models made of soft leather – it is everywhere this season, plus everything will not get wet during rainy weather. There are no strict restrictions on the shape, but if you go all-in with the desire to show off a trendy novelty, you should pay attention to geometric models – triangles, trapezoids, squares and rectangles. For an informal look, voluminous backpacks are useful (finally there is enough space for everything) and shoulder bags that free your hands for important things. nine0003

Aura

I would like to pay special attention to the fragrance.

Discover the spots you’ve been missing each winter.

By Shauna Farnell

Updated on 11/22/2022 at 12:50 PM

Let’s face it: The country is littered with gorgeous mountain towns where the skiing is downright underwhelming. And then there are legendary runs where the nearest city is more than a decent drive away. But America’s greatest ski towns are a combination of the best of both worlds. These are spots that cater to first-timers as well as pros speeding down black-diamond trails, destinations where award-winning cuisine, top-notch breweries, antler-adorned saloons, and some of the best wine bars in the country come together. In short, a skier’s dreamworld.

It’s not easy to pick favorites when it comes to ski towns, but here, we chose to skip the obvious (we still love you, Aspen) and instead champion back country that’s less traversed. Don’t think that means you won’t find the same level of pulsing après-ski spots and powder so fresh, you’re ready to get back to the top before you’ve even made it down your first set of slopes. These are the unexpected and underrated treasures tucked away everywhere from the desert to some of the most stunning southern mountain ranges.

Not only will you find quality skiing for all skill sets and a community ready to root you on as you hit the slopes, you’ll be engulfed by winter wonderlands so charming, you’ll be surprised these super-chill ski towns weren’t on your radar sooner. Here’s where you should be shredding it up this winter.

The best of the wild west, plus hot springs perfect for a post-ski soak. | Old Town Hot Springs

Steamboat Springs, Colorado

A historic epicenter where the Old West meets winter sports, the aspen-strewn slopes of Steamboat lie at a lower elevation than most of Colorado’s resorts. But don’t be fooled—you’re still bottoming out at nearly 7,000 feet above sea level. Plus, the town is rife with culinary fare that’s surprising for such a casual place. Start with breakfast and creative cocktails at Yampa Valley Kitchen and ramp up your appetite for an authentic, multi-course French meal at Sauvage before a brisk walk to the magically frozen Fish Creek Falls. One of the standout features of this funky ski town is, of course, the opportunity to soak in steamy mineral water at Old Town Hot Springs or Strawberry Park Hot Springs after hitting the slopes.

America’s second oldest city is also one of the most under-the-radar ski towns | New Mexico True

Santa Fe, New Mexico

You probably never thought of this summer tourist hub—also America’s second-oldest city, dating back to 1610—as a ski town. Clearly, you do not know Santa Fe. About 16 miles away is possibly the country’s best-kept alpine secret. Ski Santa Fe boasts more than 80 trails, a bounty of powder, and you will be hard-pressed to wait in a lift line. In town, indulge in the southwestern city’s unbeatable, upscale Mexican fare at Sazón; visit the psychedelic living museum that is Meow Wolf or the less cerebral New Mexico History Museum; or stroll the Palace of the Governors, where Native American artists display their original handmade jewelry, ornaments, and artwork.

Marquette is home to one of the Midwest’s most popular trails. | Marquette Mountain

Marquette, Michigan

A frigid but lively polestar on the shores of Lake Superior, great restaurants and craft beer abound along with one of the Midwest’s most popular ski hills. With only a 600-foot vertical rise and three chairlifts, Marquette Mountain may be small, but it’s got steeps and tallies more than 200 inches of snow per year. Outside the slopes and near-endless cross-country trails, the real thrill of this area comes on two wheels—more than 75 miles of trail groomed for fat tires surround Marquette. If pedaling in a blizzard doesn’t endear you to the hardcore but super friendly Yoopers, sipping local suds certainly will. Blackrocks Brewery, Ore Dock Brewing Company, Drifa Brewing, and Barrel & Beam are all beer snob-worthy stops in a college town also crawling with cozy dives.

Tahoe City, California

Despite the numerous towns and ski resorts that surround Lake Tahoe, this hamlet of shops and restaurants is still considered pretty sleepy. Located directly on the lakeshore, in summer, it’s bustling with boaters, SUPers, and kayakers. In the colder months, the view of the twinkling town from the quiet pier or Fanny Bridge is magical. Find a family-friendly scene at the sledding hill and ice rink at the Winter Sports Park; comfort food amid antiques and vintage toys at Rosie’s Café; and Irish coffee, fresh fish tacos, rustic-chic rooms, and romantic lake views at Sunnyside Restaurant & Lodge. Sugar Mountain, North Carolina

For obvious reasons, the notoriously humid Southeastern US doesn’t get much hype when it comes to skiing. But in North Carolina, you can find some truly excellent powder come winter. For proof, look about an hour and a half northeast of brewery-lined Asheville to Sugar Mountain, which sits at an elevation of 4,432 feet in Pisgah National Forest. Up to 78 inches of snow falls here each year, blanketing the 125 acres of skiable terrain—which include 21 slopes and the largest vertical drop (1,200 feet) in North Carolina’s Blue Ridge Mountains—in a pristine white coat. Stop here between late November and early March for skiing, snowboarding, tubing, ice skating, and snowshoeing, or plan your trip in time for the annual SugarFest weekend in December.

Autumn vacation. Where it’s warm in November: 7 sunny directions

If you did not have time to relax in the summer or decided to take a vacation in November, then you still have a chance to go to the warm sun and the sea! Those who like to soak up the sun and lie on the sand will have to forget about Europe until spring, but Asia, South America and some African countries are ready to offer their hot resorts. Let’s see where you can go while preparing for winter in your homeland, and where you can combine a beach holiday with a lot of interesting entertainment.

Egypt

Egypt – the most budgetary and best option for a beach holiday in November has already become a classic among our tourists. In November in Egypt, the temperature is stable at around +30, so without a doubt you can trust Egypt with your beach holiday. Diving remains the main entertainment in Egypt at any time of the year – the Red Sea will please vacationers with a variety of inhabitants and an abundance of colorful reefs.

Resorts of Egypt – Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh, Makadi Bay, Dahab, El Gouna, Taba – in November they are all perfect for a beach holiday.

Hotels in Egypt

Mexico

It is believed that November is the beginning of the most successful season for visiting Mexico. This distant country has become much closer in recent years and is consistently in demand among our tourists. Mexico easily falls under the definition of “a heavenly destination where everything is possible.” In Mexico, you can discover the great heritage of the Maya, try exotic delicacies, go on a tour or opt for a passive holiday. In November, the weather here is cloudless, there is almost no rainfall. It’s time to find a place in the sun on any of the beaches in Mexico, try extreme sports or sign up for a hiking tour to the volcano.

Goa (India)

By November, Goa is completely free from the rainy season, and crowds of tourists begin to gather on its beaches only by mid-December. Why not seize the moment? If you have free time and money, you can safely stay here for a whole month, enjoying the empty beaches. Other important advantages of Goa in November are warm water, comfortable temperature and fairly low prices. And November is the best time to visit the sights – the national parks of India after the rainy season are especially picturesque.

UAE

No wonder November is the peak season in the United Arab Emirates. In November, it will be equally comfortable for swimming and active recreation. November in the UAE is wonderfully suitable for families with children. The heat has already subsided, there are no strong winds either, which means that there is no risk of catching a cold or getting a sunstroke. In November, Dubai can offer tourists a number of interesting exhibitions, including automotive and jewelry. And while relaxing in Abu Dhabi, do not be too lazy to visit the magnificent amusement park Ferrari World. The UAE is the best option for those who want to enjoy a beach holiday without alcohol excesses – in most emirates in the UAE, alcohol is prohibited or sold only in specialized places, and appearing in a public place while intoxicated can result in a fine. In any case, in the UAE you will not see crowds of drunken compatriots jumping into the pool.

Hotels UAE

Amusement parks in the UAE

Canary Islands (Spain)

By the end of November, the wind intensifies here, and the water cools noticeably. But for a beach holiday, the most pleasant and, which is also important, profitable period is coming. The Canary Islands in November please with low prices. During this period, perhaps, it is worth taking advantage of the offer and see with your own eyes why tourists dream of the Canaries so much. In November, time can be devoted to walks along the coast, visiting the Teide volcano, trips to old castles and nature reserves, or a more detailed acquaintance with the cozy cities of the Canary Islands. And if a strong wind rises, you can go in for windsurfing, which is popular here.

Thailand

It’s not the first season that Thailand gives exotics to tourists who miss the heat. For a reasonable price, you can access perfect beaches, amazing sights, exotic fruits and a world of bargain shopping. In November, pleasant and dry weather sets in almost everywhere, although rainy days are still possible on the islands. Tourists who choose Thailand for their November trip will certainly appreciate how the country is changing for the new season – since October, they have been actively preparing for the influx of guests and ennobling hotels, beaches and gardens.

Eilat (Israel)

While some parts of Israel are raining, in Eilat, where precipitation is less frequent in November, the weather is ideal for all types of recreation.

Met Office respond to reports Northern Ireland will be battered by ‘Beast from the East’ bringing snow and icy weather

There is less than a 1% chance of a significant snowfall in Northern Ireland in the coming weeks, the Met Office has said.

It follows some reports which suggested the UK was set to be battered by a so-called “Beast from the East” in the coming weeks which would bring up to four inches of snow as the country heads into December.

While there may be some colder conditions and the potential for snow in eastern parts of England and Scotland as we move into December, for those on this side of the Irish Sea any chance of significant wintery conditions are extremely unlikely, forecasters suggested.

The Met Office predicted “cold and wintry conditions in the UK as a result of a polar continental air mass”.

Craig Snell a meteorologist with the Met Office said the rest of the month in Northern Ireland will remain unsettled and there is little sign of snow.

“Low pressure is generally going to remain close by over the rest of the month. Generally, it will remain unsettled and wet and windy, with temperatures generally hovering around where they should be,” he said.

“As we go into December, naturally temperatures will begin to fall away as is usual when we go into the winter months.

“It should kind of get colder. There are no strong signals of anything majorly wintery on the way.

“There are hints on some of the models about high pressure. But it will probably make things colder but drier if anything.

“As we go into winter, the chances of seeing snow will increase but especially for yourselves in Northern Ireland, if that scenario did come off – which I would put a less than 1% chance – it probably still wouldn’t have much of an effect.

“Anything coming across would mainly affect the eastern coast of Scotland and England.

“The reports of significant snowfall are a little bit too keen.”

Meanwhile, the Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Northern Ireland today.

The national forecaster warned of strong winds until 2pm, and said residents across NI should expect some delays to road, rail, air and ferry transport.

Delays for high-sided vehicles on exposed routes and bridges are also likely.

Some coastal routes, sea fronts and coastal communities will also be affected by spray and/or large waves.

Yesterday, heavy rain fell in parts of counties Antrim, Armagh and Down.

A road traffic collision on the A1 southbound caused a closure between the Halfway Road and Kilmacure Road junctions in the morning. Whilst the vehicles were soon removed the road took longer to reopen due to excess amounts of surface water.

It comes after almost a quarter of the average monthly rainfall for November fell in less than half a day in parts of Northern Ireland on Monday.

At least 30.4mm was recorded in the city of Armagh by 3pm, just nine hours after heavy downpours began. In Glenanne, 28.4mm of rain had fallen at the same time.

Met Office forecaster Alex Burkhill described it as “a substantial amount” and warned more is on the way.

Incredible November Warmth for Portions of the U.S., Europe and Beyond

Incredible November Warmth for the U.S., Europe and Beyond

The first 10 days of November 2015 have seen record-breaking warmth for many locations in Florida and elsewhere in U.S. while all-time November monthly national heat records have so far been broken in the U.K., Ireland, France, Estonia, Slovenia, and Finland. All-time record heat (for any month) was also observed in parts of Australia and French Guiana. Here is a brief summary.

This ‘global’ view of the temperature anomaly for November 7th illustrates just how far above normal temperatures were in both the eastern U.S. and Western Europe simultaneously. It was perhaps the warmest November day on record for France. Image from the Climate Change Institute, University of Maine.

In the U.S. and Canada

It has been the warmest start to any November on record for most of Florida. Temperatures have averaged 5°-18° above normal for the first week of the month.

Historical ranking of mean temperatures across the Southeast for the period of November 1-8. Map and data from SERCC (Southeast Regional Climate Center).

This has resulted in some all-time monthly heat records (both maximum and minimum temperatures) at many locations in the state. All-time November monthly heat records were broken at:

Tallahassee 89° on November 2nd and 4th (old record 88° set on several previous occasions). The site also tied its warmest daily minimum temperature with a low of 75° on November 1st and 2nd. The first week of the month averaged 16.7° above normal!

Naples 92° on November 4th (tied former record also set on November 10, 1946)

Daytona Beach 90° on November 2nd (old record 89° on several previous occasions)

Gainesville 91° on November 3rd (old record 90° on several previous occasions)

Jacksonville 89° on November 1st and 3rd (old record 88° on several previous occasions).

Tampa 92° on November 4th (old record 90° on November 1, 2006. This was also the warmest temperature ever observed between the dates of October 17-March 25th. Even more remarkable were the record high minimums that occurred every night from November 1st to November 6th and again on November 8th and 9th.

The amazing streak of record high minimum temperatures observed at Tampa between November 1st and Nov. 9th. NOW data table from NWS-Tampa.

Key West Like Tampa, Key West has also seen a phenomenal stretch of record high minimum temperatures every night from October 31st through November 10th (aside from November 5th ) including all-time November monthly high minimums of 81° on November 1, 2, 7, 8, and 9. This streak is likely to continue for a few more days.

Record high minimum temperatures seem to have been especially pervasive this year as the map above illustrates. Almost one third of the entire country (including much of Florida) has seen this year so far (from January 1 to Oct. 31) result in the warmest average minimum temperatures on record since 1895. NOAA/NCDC map.

The hottest temperature measured in all of Florida so far this November was 93° at Inverness on November 4th and also at Punta Gorda on November 7th. These maximums fall short, however, of the Florida November state record of 96° measured at Oasis Ranger Station in November 1986. In southern Georgia, Waycross reached 92° (with a THI of 103°!) on November 2nd, just 2° shy of the Georgia state November heat record of 94° set at Moultrie in November 2003.

The heat briefly extended far to the north of Florida for a few days early in the month with Flint, Michigan also measuring an all-time November monthly high of 80° on November 4th (old record 79° on three previous occasions including on November 3rd this month). In Canada Windsor, Ontario saw a daily record 23.9°C (75.0°F) also on November 4th, and in North Bay, Ontario (46° 18’ N) the temperature made it up to 23. 6°C (74.5°F) smashing the previous November monthly record of 20.0°C/68.0°F set on November 3, 1961. Ontario’s warmest November temperature ever measured was not threatened: 27.2°C (81.0°F) at St. Catherines and Vineland Station on November 3, 1961.

November 7th saw the warmth head east and, on November 7th, daily temperature records were broken or tied in New York City (74°), Boston (73°), Washington D.C. (80°), Baltimore (80°) Albany (73°), Providence (72°) and Hartford (76°). However, none of these were November monthly records.

Europe November Record Heat Wave

Amazing as the warmth in the U.S. may have been, it paled in comparison to the unprecedented warmth that has engulfed much of Europe since late October. All-time November national monthly heat records have been set in the United Kingdom with a 22.4°C (72.3°F) reading on November 1st at Trawsoed, Wales as well as in Ireland with a 20.1°C (68.2°F) temperature at Dooks, County Kerry also on November 1st. The previous November record for Ireland was 20.0°C (68.0•F) at Rathfarnham on November 4, 1946 and in the U.K. 21.7°C (71.1°F) at Prestatyn also on November 4, 1946. UPDATE: Apparently an all-time November high minimum temperature for the U.K. has just been set at Murlough, Northern Ireland the night of November 9-10 with a low of just 16.1°C (61.0°F). The previous November record high minimum was 15.9°C (59.4°F) at Eastbourne, East Sussex in November 2005.

In Finland a national monthly record was set on November 3rd at Kimitoon (Kemio) with 14.8°C (57.7°F) crushing the previous November national record of 13.0° (55.4°F) measured at Jomala on November 12, 1999.

Estonia saw its national monthly record broken on November 3rd with Sami measuring 14.9°C (58.8°F). Previous record was 13.7°C (56.7°F) at Tartu on November 3, 1967. The capital city, Tallinn, also set its monthly record with a 13.7°C (56.7°F) reading.

France has (so far) seen probably the most anomalous temperatures anywhere in Europe. A new November national monthly record (excluding Corsica) of 29.0°C (84.2°F) was measured on November 8th at Saint-Jean-de-Luz (Socoa Point) near the Spanish border in the extreme SW of the country. In northern Spain 30.0°C (86.0°F) was measured at Santadar the same day. The previous record for Socoa Point was 26.8°C (80.2°F) set just last November on the 24th of that month, the site’s POR dates back to 1921. These exceptional temperatures in southwest France and northern Spain were the result of down-sloping winds off the Basque and Pyrenees mountains.

Hundreds of towns and cities in France experienced their warmest November days on record including Paris with 21.6°C (70.9°F) on November 7th (old record was set just last November (again: see my blog last November about this) when a reading of 21.4°C (70.5°F) occurred on November 1st (2014). Chamonix in the Alps reached 21.1°C (70.0°F) and Bordeaux reached 26.7°C (80.1°F) on November 8th (old record 25.1°C/77.2°F on November 3, 1925). The town of Bicarrose beat its previous November record by a full 3.3°C (6.0°F) with 27.7°C (81.9°F) on November 8th (former record 24.4°C/75.9°F on November 1, 1999). The nights have been warm as well with Nancy setting a record November high/minimum of 15.3°C (59.5°F) on November 7th (former warmest November night was 13.7°C/56.7°F on November 8, 1939).

Temperature departures from normal for France on November 7th, the warmest November day (perhaps along with November 8th) ever experienced in modern times for the country. Map from Meteo France.

Slovenia reached 25.3°C (76.6°F) at Iskrba on November 10th, beating the previous national record of 25.2°C (77.4°F).

Other European countries that have come close to attaining their national monthly heat records this November include:

Switzerland 23.6°C(74.5°F) at Comprovasco on November 10th (national record is 24.6°C (76.3°F) at Lugano on November 18, 1964). The Comprovasco temperature was likely the 3rd warmest ever temperature yet measured in Switzerland during a November. Basel reached 21.9°C (71.4°F) on November 7th, its record high for November. Geneva reached 20.0°C (68.0°F) on November 9th.

Sweden 17.6°C (63.7°F) at Hudisvall on November 2nd (record is 18.4°C/65.1°F at Ugerup on November 2, 1968).

Norway 19.8°C (67.6°F) at Sunndalsora on November 1 (record is 21.8°C/71.2°F at Tafjord on November 6, 2003).

Germany the warmest measured so far has been 23.8°C (74.8°F) at Emmendingen on November 8th which is a long way from the record of 25.9°C (78.6°F) set at Rosenheim on November 6, 1997 but many stations including Freiburg, Frankfurt, and Dusseldorf, to name just three of at least 73 sites in the nation, did break their November monthly heat records. Germany’s highest mountain, Zugspitze (elevation 2962m/9,718’), reached 7.4°C (45.3° F), its warmest November reading and a POR dating back to 1900. The peak’s all-time maximum temperature (set on July 5, 1957) is just 17.9°C (64.2°F).

Italy Record November warmth also has been observed in Italy with many all-time November monthly high temperatures being observed, especially in the northern portion of the country (and at high elevations!). Aosta (at 600m/2,000’) reached 27.0°C (80.6°F) and Promiod (elevation around 1,500m/5,000’) making it up to 23.0°C (73.4°F). In fact, Maximiliano Herrera reports that on November 10th the thermal freezing line of 0°C (32°F) reached as high as 4,700m/15,500’ in the Southern Alps region, an unprecedented event for this time of the year. In fact, the weather station of Capanna Margherita located at 4550m/15,000′ on the Italian side of Mt. Rose reached +0.9°C (33.6°F) on November 10th.

Croatia reached 27.2°C (81.0°F) on November 9th, just shy of the November national record of 27.6°C (81.7°F) set at Knin on an earlier date.

There are so many individual towns and cities across Europe that have broken their November monthly temperature records over the past 10 days that it is not possible to even begin to list them all . I am sure I have missed some important statistics in the above roundup.

Elsewhere in the World

Record November warmth has also been affecting northern Australia this month as well. An all-time (any month) record high of 41.6°C (106.7°F) was measured at Middle Point, about 65 km southeast of Darwin in the Northern Territory on November 8th and another all-time record high of 38.7°C (101.7°F) was observed at Pirlangimpi on Melville Island off the coast of northern Australia (however, Maximilano Herrera informs me that this site has not been reporting reliable temperatures for some time now). This just follows the warmest October on record by a margin (either cold or hot) greater than ever recorded on the continent. See this BOM site for details about Australia’s most anomalously warmest month EVER on record for the continent in history.

Unusual warmth has also affected Japan this past week although I am not sure about the details so far as any new monthly records being set.

Not to neglect another continent, South America, French Guiana may have set its all-time national record high (for any month) on November 3rd when the temperature reached 37. 9°C (100.2°C) at St. Laurent (other higher readings have been reported in the past but are of questionable quality).

KUDOS: Thanks to Michael Theusner of Klimahaus and Maximiliano Herrera for much of the European temperature data and Bob Henson for his always good advice.

why heatwaves are becoming the new normal

08/04/2022 11:00

Temperature records have been broken in many European countries this summer. Scientists predict: heat waves will become more and more frequent. We tell you what global processes this is connected with and how it will affect our lives.

How serious is it?

The extreme heat that engulfed Western Europe in July has already renewed many historical highs. Yes, 19July in the UK weather station recorded 40.3 degrees Celsius – the highest mark on record in the country. In Spain, the temperature reached +45°C, and in Portugal – +47°C. Records were also recorded in the Netherlands.

In many cities, authorities have declared orange, and in some places even red – the highest level of weather danger. The total number of victims exceeded 1,000 people. Most of the victims were recorded in Spain: from July 10 to July 16, 510 people died, mostly over the age of 85. nine0005

Why is this happening? And why did Europe suffer?

Scientists call this phenomenon a heat wave – when large currents of hot air move in a certain direction. Their appearance is associated with atmospheric pressure and the circulation of water and air masses.

The Earth’s atmosphere can be represented as a landscape with many “mountains” and “valleys” – zones of low and high barometric pressure. Low pressure zones tend to draw air towards them like a pump. It was such a zone that formed in Europe and attracted hot air from the African deserts. nine0005

Over the past four decades, the frequency and intensity of heat waves in Europe have increased. This increase is – at least in part – due to changes in the jet streams. This is the name given to powerful air currents that flow in the atmosphere for many hundreds of kilometers.

Just in July, Nature Communications published an article on jet streams in Europe. The authors noticed that the jet stream passing through Europe is split in two, and an area of weak winds is formed in the gap. This creates ideal conditions for hot weather, as hot air rushes into this “corridor” from the south. nine0005

How is this related to climate change?

The frequency and intensity of heat waves have increased over the past few decades. For example, in a 2019 report by the international group World Weather Attribution, scientists noted that extreme heat waves are at least ten times more common today than they were 100 years ago. In addition, 100 years ago, such waves were on average four degrees colder.

One of the main reasons climatologists consider is climate change. In particular, the warming in the Arctic, which is happening much faster than in other places on the planet. As the Arctic warms, the temperature difference between it and the equator decreases. The greater the temperature difference, the more the air currents move. Conversely, with a small difference – especially in summer – there are fewer winds, and hot air stays in place longer. nine0005

In addition, changes in one of the main oceanic currents, the Atlantic meridional overturning circulation, can affect the European climate. It is one of the main circulation systems of the ocean on Earth, it redistributes heat on our planet and has a great influence on the climate. Models show that this current has been slowing down in recent years.

The weakening of the current in parallel can lead to a change in atmospheric cycles. And this, in turn, will lead to a dry summer in Europe. nine0005

How will this affect people’s lives?

The climate in Europe will continue to change, experts predict. The more often heatwaves come, the more likely they are to come again and be more dangerous. Heat waves change the structure of soil and forests. Due to long periods of dry hot weather, the soil loses moisture and loses its ability to cool the air. And this increases the risk of new heat waves.

Droughts, in turn, will lead to problems in agriculture, higher food prices and higher electricity prices. The heat puts a strain on the energy system due to the massive use of air conditioners. On the other hand, because of the heating of water in the rivers, it becomes difficult to cool the reactors – one of the important sources of energy for a number of European countries. nine0005

Heatwaves will require a global overhaul of the entire urban infrastructure. For example, many old houses do not have air conditioning. And new buildings, especially office buildings, are built from lightweight structures with an abundance of glass, which easily transmits light and heat. The windows work like lenses that amplify the already monstrous heat.

The heat will kill people and animals. For example, in 2003, one of the most devastating heatwaves claimed the lives of more than 70,000 people in Europe. According to last year’s study in The Lancet Planetary Health, heat-related deaths from 2000 to 2019year grew by 0.21%. Moreover, the highest rates are in Asia and Europe. In the future, due to rising temperatures, 74 additional deaths are expected for every 100,000 people worldwide.

How will this affect us in Russia?

As the climate changes on a global scale, the number of extreme events will only increase – including in Russia. Suffice it to recall last year’s forest fires and winter heavy snowfalls. Due to warming, water evaporates on a large scale, and all this moisture accumulates in the atmosphere. Therefore, periods of heat in some places will be combined with downpours and floods in others. nine0005

90,000 as Europe “Dies” from abnormal heat

in the world

European extreme heat. In July, in many countries, the thermometers updated the historical highs of temperatures. The climate anomaly has already claimed the lives of hundreds of people and led to devastating fires. About how European countries are experiencing extreme heat – in the material of “Evening Moscow”. nine0005

United Kingdom

Foggy Albion has turned into a real desert. On July 19, the island recorded a historical maximum air temperature of 40.3 degrees Celsius. The climate anomaly has led to fires in different parts of the country. One of them took place just 20 kilometers from London, on the Dartford Heath. According to residents of the British capital, because of the heat, the asphalt on some streets of the city “became soft, like plasticine.”

Fires have destroyed dozens of homes across the UK. Local media reported that for 19July emergency services received more than 2.6 thousand calls. The last time British firefighters were so heavily loaded was during World War II.

Spain and Portugal

According to the WHO, more than 1 person has already died due to heat in these two countries . 7 thousand people. In the Pyrenean kingdom, the air temperature reached 45 degrees Celsius. It was in Spain that the most deaths were recorded due to the heat. In just 10 days in the first half of July, more than a thousand people became victims of the anomaly. The immediate cause of death was most often heat stroke, in most cases people over 85 died. nine0005

In the southern, central and northeastern provinces of the country, different levels of weather danger have been declared from yellow (“danger”) to red (“extreme danger”). Extreme temperatures led to huge fires, their total area was about 200 thousand hectares. Nearly 600 people had to be evacuated due to a forest fire on the island of Tenerife.

In Portugal, a record temperature for Europe was recorded – 47 degrees Celsius. Against the backdrop of such weather, fires are also raging in the country. According to local media, Portugal has already lost almost 58 thousand hectares of forest in fires.

Greece and Cyprus

Wildfires caused by abnormal heat are also raging in the Mediterranean island states. So, in Greece, the Dadia National Park, located on the Peloponnese peninsula and on the island of Lesvos, has been extinguished for a week now. 10 aircraft, 68 vehicles and over 300 firefighters have been involved in extinguishing the fire, but so far it has not been possible to overcome it. nine0005

The flames destroyed houses, cars and trees in the suburbs of Athens. Video: RT Against the background of it, forest fires also break out in different regions of the country. On July 24, three natural fires occurred on the island at once – one near Larnaca and two near Nicosia. Due to the high threat of fires, the Cypriot weather services declared a yellow alert level, and the authorities recommended that citizens refrain from the traditional practice of burning dry grass.

Autumn holidays at sea with a child: where to relax, where to fly holiday. The question becomes especially interesting if there is a desire to spend the autumn holidays at sea with the whole family. Fortunately, there are many warm seas on our planet suitable for a respite from the granite of science. nine0003

On the coast of the warm sea

Children’s holidays are a luxurious excuse to escape from the dank autumn. It is worth going on an additional vacation to the shores of the warm sea. The nearby seas and resorts, alas, cannot please autumn travelers with pleasant temperatures. You will have to choose a direction and fly for the autumn holidays to distant countries.

Israel

You can combine sea holidays and excursions during the autumn holidays in Israel. The hospitable country will provide an opportunity to soak up the sea in the rays of the warm sun, kids – to run along the coast, older children and adults – to see the historical heritage of mankind. nine0003

The advantages of a November trip to the sea with children to Israel include not a long flight, interesting opportunities in the country, visa-free regime. By cons – the restriction of the recreation area by Eilat on the Red Sea. And the high cost of recreation associated with the beginning of the beach season.

Eilat is very close to the desert, hot winds and during the autumn holidays bring hot air into the city. In November it is sunny here, even hot during the day, thanks to the “neighbor” Arava desert. Her breath warms the air up to +32 degrees, the average temperature fluctuates within comfortable +27. nine0003

Vacationers with children during the autumn holidays will not be too hot, because the humidity in the city is low, pleasant breezes are constantly blowing. When going with children to the autumn coast of Israel, take summer things for a daytime vacation. For evening walks (at +16) you need to provide clothes with long sleeves.

Numerous festivals take place in Eilat in autumn, luring parents with children to the holiday. In the morning, you can go on a desert safari or dive into an underwater observatory. It is worth getting out to the Dolphin Reef Reserve and delighting schoolchildren during the holidays by swimming next to the dolphins. nine0003

United Arab Emirates

The beach season for the United Arab Emirates starts in November. By the beginning of the autumn holidays, the heat leaves the region, +32 degrees are acceptable for relaxing at sea.

The advantages of an autumn vacation at sea include a short flight, a simplified visa regime. This also includes good beaches, numerous attractions with popular entertainment, a luxurious excursion program for children. Among the minuses are the high cost of rest at the beginning of the beach season, the influx of tourists, short showers. nine0003

Daytime temperatures vary depending on the location of the emirate. During the autumn holidays on the coast of Dubai it will be +30, and in Fujairah the thermometer will show only +28. If you are going to visit Sharjah in the fall, put raincoats for the whole family in your bag, they will help out a lot on excursions.

A pleasant temperature is kept only on the coast, in resort areas by the sea. It is better not to take small children on vacation to areas close to the desert, it is much hotter there. When choosing a place for swimming in the sea, keep in mind that in November the Persian Gulf will be a couple of degrees warmer than Oman. nine0003

You can visit the beach with children until 11 am, late sun is harmful to health. Unfortunately, evening swimming is not possible during the autumn holidays, after 16.00 twilight sets in. But in the evening it is interesting to visit local entertainment with children in shopping centers or in tourist places in cities. For example, look at the famous fountains or climb the observation deck of the Burj Khalifa (booking tickets in advance).

Little sweet tooth will love the November Date Festival. And it will be problematic to take the boys away from the stands for the fans of the Formula 1 race. Autumn holidays are a great occasion to see local sights, to visit the largest entertainment places on the planet. nine0003

Canary Islands

Do you dream of spending your autumn holidays in Europe, but at the same time you are in the mood for a beach holiday by the sea? The Canary Islands, the official territory of Spain off the African coast, is practically the only destination available for such requests.

The advantages include a convenient flight to the archipelago, a variety of recreation options, a completely European service. The disadvantages are the remoteness of the islands from the lands of old Europe, not very hot temperatures, the influx of tourists. And the possible vagaries of the weather, crossing out plans for swimming. nine0003

Tenerife will meet children who have arrived for the autumn holidays with a thermometer reading +22 – +24. The water in the ocean is kept at +20, but the beach plans can be disrupted by cold winds. In November, the archipelago is experiencing a high season, lovers of moderate temperatures and water sports come to relax.

Children will appreciate the possibilities of boat trips, tourist ships and yachts scurry between the islands like taxis. Surfers show the art of wave control on ocean beaches. Teenagers may well take a few lessons at local surf schools. nine0003

Autumn holidays coincide with local holidays, children will love colorful processions and parades. Nearby beckons with its mystery Africa, available for excursions. There are many entertainments on the islands for children of different ages, it will not be boring, even if you can’t swim due to the vagaries of the weather.

Thailand

Studying where to relax during the autumn holidays, remember the beginning of the season in hospitable Thailand. The beaches of Krabi, Phuket, Pattaya are waiting for schoolchildren who have been released from school. nine0003

The advantages of the country are boldly warm sea, affordable price tag (the first days of November are the cheapest in hotels), a lot of entertainment available to children. The disadvantages are long-distance flights and a different climate that requires getting used to.

The Gulf of Thailand and the Andaman Sea warm up to +29 just in time for the holidays, the air temperature depends on the coast. The south will be a couple of degrees warmer than the southwest coast.

If you are lucky with the calendar, you can get to the beautiful Water Festival. It is held at the very beginning of the month, but the date is tied to the moon and not every year falls during the autumn holidays. nine0003

November offers a variety of activities, from a full day at Thailand’s most popular water parks to a trip to the Elephant Village or the Grand Canyon. The country is just perfect for a seaside holiday with children during the cold months for us.

Cuba

Combining autumn holidays, holidays and holidays, you can even aim at the Island of Liberty. The path is not close, but the natural beauty of the island country, a little stuck in the past, will appeal to inquisitive schoolchildren.

The advantages include the affordability of the state, beautiful nature, clean sea. By cons – a long and expensive flight, domestic disorder of the country. But the child will not be able to sit on the tablet for days because of the slow Internet.

At the destination of the trip, the Caribbean Sea will be waiting for the family with a pleasant and healthy temperature for children +25, and air around +30. Clear water invites you to relax on the coast by the sea, or by renting a car, you can show the children a new beach every day, forgetting that it is late autumn on the calendar. nine0003

Clear water invites diving, coral gardens and sunken pirate ships are waiting for older children. And on land, it is worth showing the quarters of the times of colonization, how the Indians live in Cuba, and what interesting things the Zapata Swamp hides. You can go to Varadero, swim in the sea and look at the local flamingos.

It is warm on the island during the day, in the evening children should be dressed in closed clothes and taken to the places of festivities of cheerful Cubans, for whom every day is a holiday, an occasion for songs and dances. nine0003

Children’s camp on the seashore

If only a schoolchild has a vacation, make a present for your child, send him to a health camp by the sea. The main thing here is to choose a direction that is good for your vacation and have time to buy a ticket.

Known for its glorious weather, not too hot not too cold, this Goldilock’s climated island is perfect for a sunny surf getaway. With its different variety of waves, great for beginner surfers to the professional, Tenerife has it all. Outside of the water it also has lots to offer, fantastic restaurants, bars, and a breathtaking landscape.

Tourism is more prevalent in the south of the island, which is hotter and drier and has many well developed resorts such as Playa de las Americas and Los Cristianos. The north part of the island is more lush and green and the town of Puerto de la Cruz is a great base having kept some of its old-harbour town charm while also mixing with European influences. Both north and south have a good choice of Tenerife surf camps and surfing holiday options

Only 60km long and 50km wide it is easy to get around and is home to the worlds third largest volcano Pico del Tiede.

With such a beautiful landscape and great surf spots Tenerife is a great surf holiday destination any time of the year. It is known as the Island of Eternal Spring (Isla de la Eterna Primavera) for good reason!

Book your surf holiday in Tenerife with us online and come experience it for yourself. ..

Flying to Tenerife is easy with many major airlines flying to the island for a vast number of European cities. It has two airports, Los Rodeos airport situated in the north of the island near La Laguna and Reina Sofía (named after the King of Spain’s wife) in the south near the Costa Adeje area.

Getting around

The island is only 60km long and 50km wide so every area is within easy reach. They have reliable buses and plenty of taxis.

Car Hire – We have a discount car hire section on our website where you can rent a car.

Shared transfers – Share a taxi or mini bus with our shuttle bus partner here

You can also get to Tenerife by Ferry, there are two sailings from Spain a week, Huelva to Santa Cruz de Tenerife and Cadiz to Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

The best surf in Lanzarote for advanced levels happens in the winter months from November to March. However for beginners and intermediates it is a year round surf destination.

The area has two main surf areas, the North coast and the South coast. The East coast has some ok beach breaks but it is not that reliable.

The greatest concentration of surf spots is between the southern tourist towns of Playa de Las Americas and Los Cristianos. Spanish Left is one of Tenerifes more famous spots. A left wave, steep and powerful, working from a pushing low tide. Reef shoes recommended. It is right in the centre of Playa de Las Americas and is definitely a more advanced spot. Nearby are easier beaches perfect for learning.

Also south are El Conquistador (South) , a beautiful, long, fast right especially at the start. and The Fitenia (South) which has both lefts and right options.

Along the North of the island you have some of Tenerife’s best beginner and intermediate surf spots including the Bajamar Reefs and also Playa del Socorro. Its located close to the town of Puerto de la Cruz, about an hour from Playa de Las Americas. The spot is dominated by mountains overlooking the ocean and is a fascinating sight. It’s a real amphitheater with crystal clear water and year round surf.

That is just a small sample, there are many more surf spots to explore and experience on a Tenerife Surfing Holiday.

Our Tenerife walking routes around the Mt Teide landscape

The Path

This holiday has been designed to take in the very best of Tenerife through a number of circular walks covering a wide variety of different landscape. The first few days are spent exploring the volcanic landscape around the famous Teide National Park. Your walks in this area will include the opportunity to explore the top of Spain’s highest mountain Mount Teide, a challenging hike up the neighbouring peak of Guajara and a walk around the crater at the foot of Teide, Cañadas del Teide. For the second half of your week you will explore a range of different terrains across the length of the island, including the pine woods around Aguamansa, the remote and hilly western cape of Punto de Teno, and the breath-takingly beautiful Anaga Park on the north-east of the island. All offer spectacular and diverse views of the island and its surroundings. On each day you will walk between 4-7 hours, which includes some relatively steep hiking with an ascent/descent of 650m. The walks on this holiday are considered moderate to challenging, although there are also a number of easier days.

The Accommodation

All of our accommodation has been hand-picked to provide en-suite rooms in unique and characterful hotels away from from the bustle of the more popular touristy spots. You will be staying in four different hotels across this 8 day holiday, allowing you the time to properly explore each area. The accommodation includes two beautiful old manor houses, finished off to a very high standard and located in charming, historic towns offering plenty of opportunity to enjoy the local lifestyle. Two hotels also boast excellent spa facilities providing the perfect balance between comfort and culture. Additional treatments whilst staying at these hotels can also be booked in advance. Whilst in Teide National Park, the accommodation is slightly simpler but located right in the heart of the park with unrivalled views of Mount Teide from your bedroom window.

A taxi will pick you up in the morning and take you to the start of this slightly more challenging 6 hour walk through mountainous woodland and ravines. At the end of the day, a taxi will take you to your next accommodation in one of Tenerife’s most beautiful and historic towns, Garachico

    • Day 6

      Punta Tena

      5 mi (8 km) to 7 mi (11 km)

Today you have a choice of walks across the hilly terrain of Tenerife’s western cape, Punta de Teno. This remote and quiet part of the island is a protected area and is surrounded by spectacular sea views and a unique and interesting mix of fauna. The first option takes you up through open woodland and along ravines until you reach a beautiful vista point, which on a good day offers views over to the island of La Gomera. Alternatively on days that are windy or particularly hot, there is the option of a slightly longer but more shaded route towards equally good viewing points. At the end of the day a taxi will take you back to your accommodation in Garachico.

    • Day 7

      Anaga

      7.5 mi (12 km)

For the final day of your holiday, a taxi will take you north-east to the Anaga Park, a protected area, which many believe to be the most beautiful part of Tenerife, full of laurisilva woods and deep ravines. There is the choice of two walks, a shorter steeper route, or a longer more gentle one. At the end of your walk, a taxi will take you to your next accommodation in the charming historical town of San Cristobal de Laguna. Afterwards you may wish to explore this lovely town or relax in the comfort of your lovely hotel with its own spa facilities.

Tenerife. November, December and Christmas and New Year holidays. Details and search for fellow travelers.

As I already wrote, last year’s trip to the paradise island of Tenerife inspired me so much that I decided to repeat the whole thing – and go there for a couple of months. The idea is simple: to spend the darkest, dankest and most unpleasant months of the Moscow winter in a tropical climate, with a temperature of plus 24-26 degrees and water of plus 22-24 degrees in the ocean.

Here I wrote the concept and idea, if anyone has not read it, there are beautiful pictures and videos. nine0003

That’s it, the dates are set, I have housing. Now I can write specifics.

I invite you to join me on this trip. I am looking for positive, determined, active people, without bad habits and cravings for watching TV) I have a couple of places in the apartment, which I have already rented. I will gladly share with you the beauty and hospitality of this wonderful place.

Dress code there in November and December: T-shirt and shorts, seriously! If you go to the mountains – well, a warm fleece or a puff and trousers.) Swimwear, sunglasses, and hats are a must)))

I go there with my bike and I also bring a wetsuit to ride the bike and learn to swim in open water. I am now a participant in triathlon starts, after all.

Here are some pictures for your reference:

In the meantime, I’ll tell you more.

I live in the south of the island, in the area of the hottest and sunniest tourist spots: Las Americas and Los Cristianos. In the plans: activities, swimming, sunbathing and all sorts of forms of fighting extra pounds and blues in a fun way) Trekking, hiking, cycling and swimming. nine0003

I offer arrivals on Saturdays .
    Dates:
    15.11-22.11 —— Completely busy
    22.11-29.11 —— Completely occupied
    29. 11–06.12
    06.12-13.12
    — 20.12
    20.12-27.12
    27.12-2- -03.01 —– price will be with coefficient 1.3
03.01–10.01 —– price will be with coefficient 1.3

You can come for one, two, three or even four weeks. If there will be at least a couple of people, it is already more profitable and more convenient to rent a car. In that case, that means that I will meet and take you to the airport and plus I will plan a reasonable joint hiking / trekking program in different parts of the island , with transfer by car or by car + bus (where the route is not profitable to be roundabout without the participation of the bus) , well, plus there are all sorts of local patrols, if they are needed.

What we will do on the island:

    • 0051
    • Climbing Mount Teide,
    • José cycling in the mountains and hills: the relief of the island allows,
    • swimming in the ocean,
    • boat trips worth watching whales and dolphins moreover!),
    • well, for those who wish, you can go to Medano to take lessons or just ride a kite, there is the best place for kiting – long beaches and few people). You can also fly there – paragliding is developed. nine0051
    • there are a couple of must-see amusement parks (Loro Park, Siam Park, an amazing variety show)
    • giving those who want and appreciate – fine and cheap local wines (white and red – extraordinarily tasty!), the freshest seafood, vegetables and fruits – extraordinary deliciousness at quite human prices, all kinds of paellas and other Spanish delicacies

A little about the apartment : it is clean, new, in a closed complex, at some distance from the sea, about 2 .5 km from the ocean. Pluses – a very quiet place, deserted, with a European contingent (which is important, because there are such complexes closer to the sea, which is terrible), with a clean pool and a beautiful panoramic view of the ocean, mountains, and surroundings. The complex is closed on all sides, so that any shanthrope will not stagger there. This is important because cases of theft on the island are common. And this is not an apart-hotel, but a residential apartment. Nearby, in the neighboring complex there is a sauna-gym, and other amenities, and they can also be used. nine0003

Before that, I lived in a complex located closer to the sea, and there were drinking parties until 2-3 am, and the complexes themselves, closer to the sea, are usually small, cramped and old-shabby-dirty. The one I lived in last December – there were cockroaches ((((( Huge. Fu. And ants. So this time I was looking primarily for a clean, safe, quiet place with beautiful views and space in front of my eyes.

To the sea – 35 minutes on foot or 3 stops by municipal bus or 6 minutes by car if we rent it.0003

The apartment has a kitchen, so you can and should cook and eat there. to the shop – about 700 meters, supermarket.

Price – 179 euros per person for a week or 289 euros – if for two weeks. This is without a car.
With car: 242 euros per week per person or 415 euros for two weeks per person.

The last two weeks in the schedule, New Year’s are more expensive, because these weeks are more expensive there.

Tickets. Sales have just begun on these dates, so it’s time to buy, then everything will only be more expensive. I recommend looking at tickets for charter flights right away (it’s really around 350-450 euros), well, or Aeroflot now still has a direct flight for these dates, about 19-20 thousand there and back for a direct flight, which of course, just for free .

I would like to remind you that it will take more than 8 hours to fly there.

Don’t delay if you want to go. Some dates are already pre-booked and I am awaiting confirmation from my guests. But some, including New Year’s dates, are still free.

If you have questions or want to go – write to me by mail [email protected] , in the field “subject” be sure to write “TENERIFE” so that I can see. In the letter, write what dates you are interested in and how many places. nine0003

The hotel is located in a very quiet area, close to Plaza España, which can be reached from the airport by bus, fast and affordable. Near the hotel there are many bus stops and metro, as well as within walking distance of many attractions. The room is clean and spacious, cleaned every day. The windows overlooked the wall of the neighboring building, but this was not at all an inconvenience, since I went out early in the morning and returned late in the evening, and the view from the window was unprincipled. The room is very warm despite the fact that I did not turn on the heating, even opened the window, and it was already December outside. The room has a safe, a mini bar with drinks, but there is no kettle, I asked at the reception with pleasure they gave it out for 20 euros, but upon departure they returned the money back. The front desk is open 24 hours. The audibility is really very high, but I was lucky that all 4 nights there were no neighbors, they stopped by on my last day of stay and for several hours I already had a headache from their noise and laughter. In general, I am satisfied with this hotel. Noise isolation

I stay at the hotel for the second time, the first time in August – I still had time to swim in the outdoor pool. the location of the hotel is perfect, 3 minutes and you are in the thick of things, and the hotel street is quiet and calm. There are many different restaurants and grocery stores within walking distance. Stayed both with children and individually. friendly staff, varied breakfast, favorite Rituals cosmetics in the room. number was 209, the condition of the head of the leatherette bed is terrible in this room, I checked in in the evening, left my things and ran to dinner, and then I found such an unpleasant bed. it is unacceptable. also, which I noted both times – the quality of coffee from the coffee machine is like from a machine, tasteless.

what is fashionable with a dog and not expensive was very clean and it was evident from the clean linen and snow-white towels, but I could smell it on the bed itself! It’s most likely the mattress! dry cleaning is necessary periodically because the hotel is not expensive and some customers are not very clean

above all cleanliness, just incredibly clean and well maintained. Of course, a great location, a convenient elevator descends to a beautiful beach. Full board is worth it, quality drinks, sufficient variety of food. incredible beauty of sunsets, especially from the terrace of the bar! friendly staff, pools heated in winter make the stay even more comfortable. in the evening before leaving, we handed over the towels near the pool, took the cards with us and simply forgot to hand them over when checking out (it was so good that in the morning, in complete relaxation, no one remembered about the cards). deposit a bit sorry to have lost. but this is of course our mistake, we just don’t have such experience in other hotels

    Ramirez Flats & Bar 4*

    Spain,
    Valencia

Very (!) friendly reception, cleaning every day. Good location – 10 minutes to the metro, 5 minutes to Turia Park. There is always a place for free parking behind the house. We didn’t change our towels on one of the cleanings, after being told about it, we were given a compliment at the next cleaning with a written apology, which is very cool.

    Detailed Itinerary

    Day 1: Arrival in Madrid

    Sunset in Madrid, Spain

    Welcome to Spain!

Upon arrival in Madrid, a private transfer will take you to your hotel in the city center. After settling in, head out to explore some fo the highlights of this buzzy capital city.

Start at Puerta del Sol, one of the most historic and expansive plazas in the city. Nearby is Plaza Mayor, a great place to find tapas, sip cañas, and watch tourists meander the main square. Peruse the side streets around the neighborhood to find the city’s hidden charms. Stop into Chocolatería San Ginés for some famous hot chocolate and churros.

Stroll to Madrid’s Fountain of Cibeles, which features a sculpture completed in 1782 depicting Cybele, the Greek goddess of fertility, riding in a chariot pulled by lions. Then make your way to Retiro Park for a relaxing walk and sunset at the Crystal Palace. Grab dinner in one of Madrid’s hip neighborhoods, including Chueca, Malasaña, and La Latina.

Day 2: Fly from Madrid to Fuerteventura

Views of the stunning Bay of Corralejo

Welcome to the beautiful Canary Islands!

Upon arrival at the airport in Fuerteventura, you’ll collect your rental car and make your way to the northwest side of the island. After settling into your accommodation, start your exploration in El Cotillo’s city center where you can meander the maze-like streets. If you’re interested in the history of the area, stop at the hermitage of Nuestra Señora del Buen Viaje or the 17th-century fortress known as El Tostón.

El Cotillo is home to many stunning beaches, the largest being Playa del Castillo. Stroll along the sandy shores or enjoy a dip in its emerald waters. The coves of the northern beaches, particularly La Concha, provide excellent swimming.

In the evening, drive out to Corralejo, a quaint fishing village known for the large dunes along its incredible beaches, as well as the scenic area of Corralejo Natural Park. Enjoy local seafood here, eating at one of the restaurants or cafes near the port.

Day 3: Enjoy a Camel Ride Along Corralejo Dunes

    Camel Rides Along Sand Dunes

After breakfast, visit Corralejo Nature Reserve, a long dune field which extends from Puerto Remedio beach all the way to the small peninsula of La Salina. It constitutes a large habitat with numerous protected and endemic species.

One of the best ways to enjoy the dunes is to ride a camel along the beach and through the park (short option), or up to the top of Roja Mountain (long option). The camels are always under the supervision of trained and experienced guides, who will take care of you at all times. Your only duties are to enjoy yourself and photograph the amazing  landscapes, if you wish.

In the late afternoon, head back to your accommodation to freshen up before enjoying dinner in El Cotillo.

Day 4: Outdoor Adventures in Jandia Park and Morro Jable

    Jandia Natural Park’s Unique Landscape

Today you’ll have a full day to explore the beauty of Jandía Nature Reserve, which is set in the township of Pájara in the south of Fuerteventura. This area is renowned for its stunning beaches and a range of leisure activities. You can create your own itinerary, or sign up for guided excursions. Not only is there plenty to see along the shore, but the southern part of the island also encompasses some stunning interior villages and beaches.

If you prefer hiking, a great option is to brave the slopes of Pico de la Zarza, the island’s highest point above sea level at 2,600 feet (807 m). The southern slopes of this great mountain are gentler and broader, with hills, crests, and valleys to enjoy. You can also walk through lower portions of the park, where you’ll find unique plant and bird species, including kestrels, stonechats, Houbara bustards, broad-winged hawks, Egyptian vultures, and more. Lizards, golden skinks, geckos, and an array of insects are also present in the park.

End your adventure in the town of Morro Jable, home to one of the largest beaches on the island. The water is an unreal hue of turquoise and you can enjoy a seaside dinner before heading back to your accommodation.

Day 5: Depart Corralejo for Lanzarote

    Unique Rock Formations of Lanzarote

It’s time to say goodbye to Fuerteventura and make the journey via ferry to the island of Lanzarote, where the town of Playa Blanca will be your hub for the remainder of the trip.

Upon arrival, settle into your hotel and start your exploration of the charming  island. Lanzarote is known for its black-sand beaches and incredible cave systems, such as Cueva de los Verdes and Cueva de los Jameos del Agua. You can also enjoy time in the art gallery and restaurant known as LagOmar, which is set in natural red-stone lava caves.

If you wish to be a bit more active, you can play golf amidst volcanic lava and cacti, go scuba diving, surf with waves that are considered some of Europe’s best, and/or go deep-sea fishing in the local waters.

    Day 6: Explore Timanfaya Park

    Unique Landscape of Timanfaya Park

After breakfast, meet your private driver at your hotel and transfer to the famous Timanfaya Park, where a guide will take you through some of Europe’s most unique landscapes. Made up of volcanic soil and completely void of vegetation, the extreme roughness and quirky rock formations, along with the red-hued earth, will feel otherworldly.

During the guided tour, you’ll visit the breathtaking Montaña Rajada where you can observe a vast sea of lava that spreads out to the coast. Its impressive undulations and shapes are all uniquely formed by the lava flow. But perhaps what is most impressive of all is the way the local people have learned to coexist with this unusual, barren landscape.

Day 7: Day Trip to La Graciosa – Cave Experience

    Sandy Streets of La Graciosa

After a leisurely breakfast at your hotel, make your way to the small port of Orzola for a day trip to the island of La Graciosa. Riding a bike is a great way to get some exercise and learn the layout of this amazing little island. Take time to wander, get lost, and try some of the local products in the shops, boutiques, and restaurants lining the beaches.

Leave the main town behind and enjoy the surrounding countryside, which has a number of fantastic trails and footpaths. In the afternoon, you’ll return to the ferry and head back to Lanzarote. Upon your arrival, opt to visit the house-museum, The Mirador del Rio, or the fascinating Cueva Jameos del Agua caves, envisioned by artist and architect César Manrique.

Day 8: Fly From Lanzarote to Madrid

    Lanzarote, Canary Islands, Spain

It’s time to say hasta luego to the stunning Canary Islands. After breakfast, you’ll head to the airport to catch your flight from Arrecife back to the bustling capital of Madrid.

If you didn’t already see some of Madrid’s highlights at the beginning of the trip, consider the following for your last night in the bustling city:

    • Peruse the world-famous museum, El Prado.
    • Row a boat around the lake in El Retiro park.
    • Discover the favorite fuentes of Neptune Fountain, Fuente de Cibeles, Apollo Fountain, and Fuente de los Galápagos.
    • Enjoy the evening lights of the Royal Palace, the Dobod Temple, and Plaza España.

When you’re finished wandering the city, settle into a cafe for some tapas before dinner. With so many options, it’s best to be your own explorer. Grab a small beer (caña) or a small glass of wine (tinto) at numerous spots. Just meander and discover!

    Day 9: Depart Madrid

    Aerial View of Beautiful Madrid

In the morning, enjoy one final breakfast in Spain before your driver transfers you to the airport. Here you can catch your flight home or to your next destination.
