10 Best Greek Islands in October

So you want to take an autumn holiday, and want to find out which is the best Greek island in October. I’ve got five awesome choices of Greek islands to visit in October for you below.

Visiting Greek Islands in October

While the majority of tourists visit Greece in the summer, in recent years there is a trend for people to visit during the shoulder seasons, spring and autumn.

October, in particular, seems to be a popular month for people to visit Greece, as the weather is much warmer than most other places in Europe, and as such it can be a good off-season break.

Best Greek Islands to Visit in October

In this article, we’ve put together some information about 10 of the best Greek islands in October:

  • Crete – Best weather in October

  • Santorini – Great month for sunsets

  • Rhodes – Warm and pleasant

  • Mykonos – Quieter beaches

  • Naxos – A taste of authentic island life

  • Hydra – Short trip from Athens

  • Corfu – Good time for walking around castles

  • Andros – Hiking and outdoor activities

  • Kefalonia – Last warm sun of the year

  • Syros – Local nightlife

Weather in Greece in October

The weather in Greece in October can be quite variable. There will generally be some sunny days, but there will also be some rainy days.

It also depends where in Greece you are. For example the Ionian islands will have more mild temperatures than islands in the south of the country like Crete.

During the day, you can expect warm weather for the most part, so pack summer wear and plan for a few beach days! In the evenings, temperatures start to drop, and you will probably need a jacket, unless you come from countries with really cold weather and are used to it!

If your main aim when visiting Greece is to stay on the beach and go swimming, September is overall a better option, as the days are still fairly long and sea temperature is relatively high.

At the same time, if you want to go sightseeing in the cities, or if you want to go hiking on the islands, October is a perfectly fine choice.

Travelling in Greece in October

If you are planning to visit some of the Greek islands in October, check Ferryhopper for updated ferry schedules. You can also reach most of the islands by a short flight from Athens airport, as well as some European airports.

If you are planning to Greek island hop, my travel tips and guides to Greek island hopping are essential reading!

Below are some of the best Greek islands to visit in October.

Crete in October

If we could only visit one Greek island in October, and had enough time to explore, it would be Crete.

With some of the mildest temperatures, some of the most diverse landscapes and some of the best food in Greece, Crete is an ideal destination all year round.

It’s often thought of as the warmest Greek island in October, and there’s plenty to see and do. The sea temperatures are also still warm enough for swimming, making it a good choice of destination for autumn sun holidays.

Check out this extensive article: Visiting Crete in October

There are regular ferries from Athens to Chania and other destinations in Crete, but you can also consider a short flight from Athens airport. There are also direct flights to Chania or Heraklion from several European cities.

Santorini in October

In our opinion, October is one of the best months to visit Santorini.

Even though cruise boats still visit the island on pretty much a daily basis, the island is considerably less crowded than in the summer peak season.

As a result, accommodation prices are lower. Most restaurants, cafés and bars are open, and the island is still lively, but not overly busy.

Swimming-wise, given that Santorini is not as south as Crete and Rhodes, the water might be a little cold, but most people should be fine to swim on a sunny day.

While on the island, it’s worth taking one of the popular day tours in Santorini, especially the volcano tour, or perhaps a wine tour of Santorini.

If you want to travel from Athens to Santorini in October, my suggestion is to fly, though you can also take a high-speed ferry if you prefer. This article explains in detail how to get from Athens to Santorini.

Rhodes in October

For anyone who wants to have a beach holiday in Greece, but doesn’t have enough time to explore Crete, Rhodes is the other best Greek island to visit in October.

With mild sunny weather, an amazing medieval town, the stunning Lindos castle, and a bunch of beautiful beaches, Rhodes is a fantastic place to visit in October.

It’s best to arrange your accommodation in Rhodes town, as there is a lot to see there. You can easily spend two days just walking around the town, and visiting the superb museums.

Tip – on some days, you can walk on the Walls of the city as well.

When it comes to beaches, Rhodes has plenty to offer, and it’s best to rent a car if you want to explore them. From the famous Anthony Quinn beach, which is a paradise for snorkelers, to the faraway Prasonissi beach on the south, ideal for windsurfers and freecampers, you will definitely love the beaches in Rhodes.

Combine one of your beach-hopping days with a visit at Lindos Castle.

If you prefer not to drive yourself, you can take a guided bus tour of the island. There are many different ones available, some of which including Lindos. If you want to get off the beaten track, this is one of the best options: Rhodes Safari Tour.

Finally, you can also consider a day trip from Rhodes to Marmaris, in Turkey!

As ferries from Pireaus to Rhodes take at least 13 hours, the best way to get from Athens to Rhodes is by a short flight. There are several direct flights from European cities to Rhodes as well.

Mykonos in October

The cosmopolitan island of Mykonos is most well known as a summer party island destination for people who want to see and be seen. October though can be a good time to visit.

While the party scene isn’t rocking quite as hard as it does in July and August, it is still there, but it’s the beaches that are the main reason to visit Mykonos during October.

Of all the Greek islands, Mykonos does have some of the most incredible beaches, and with fewer people crowding on them, October may be just the best time of year to see them.

Early October would be better, as the sea will be warmer to swim in, and there will be less chance of rain.

Naxos in October

You might be surprised to see Naxos in the list of best Greek islands in October. However, Naxos has it all – history, mountain villages, pretty landscapes, and stunning beaches, so it’s really an ideal destination in Greece.

It should be warm enough be able to spend some time on the beaches in Naxos, especially if you visit early in October.

Related: Best Greek Islands For Beaches

Naxos has one of the most unique main towns in the Cyclades group of islands, with the white-washed town houses having merged with the Naxos Castle.

Allow a few hours to wander around, and allow enough time to get lost in the maze of tiny streets. Apart from Naxos town, make sure you visit some of the mountain villages, such as Apiranthos, Filoti, Koronos and Halki.

In terms of food, Naxos has several unique meat dishes and many distinct types of local cheese, such as graviera and arseniko. Make sure you taste the local kitro, a distilled alcoholic drink, and consider visiting one of the local distilleries, such as Distillery M. G. Vallindras in Halki village.

Special events in Naxos in October include the Naxathlon, a special triathlon event, and the celebration of the “Ohi” day, when you will see parades out on the streets. Take a look here for some of the best things to do in Naxos.

You can get to Naxos either by ferry from the Athens ports, or via flight from Athens or other European cities.

Hydra in October

The cosmopolitan island of Hydra is popular among locals as well as tourists. Hydra’s role during the Revolution against the Ottoman Empire in 1821 was very important, something that locals take considerable pride in.

A small island closed to traffic, Hydra keeps an authentic charm in terms of architecture, with many 18th-19th century mansions built in unique style.

At the same time, Hydra has a network of trails that expand to over 80kms all around the island, and as such is an ideal hiking destination close to Athens. Apart from the beautiful nature, you will also see many monasteries around Hydra.

The island also has its fair share of nice beaches, some very close to the main town, and some others a long hike or a short boat ride away.

The island can be visited either on a day trip from Athens to Hydra, or for multiple days. Sea dolphins and ferries depart from Pireaus to Hydra port several times a day, taking anywhere from one to 3,5 hours to get to Hydra.

Note that if you are going to Hydra in late October, especially around St Dimitrios day (26 October) or the “Ohi” day (28 October), it’s best to reserve your accommodation and tickets in advance.

There are festivals and special events on the island, so it’s a popular time to visit among Greeks. You might also see the “Hydra” sailing race, taking place around the 28 October.

Corfu in October

A visit to Corfu in the Autumn months is a time of year that many travellers choose for its atmosphere and peace. You can enjoy this very special Ionian island more than at other times of year, when you are spoilt for choice with activities on offer.

While October may be considered a shoulder season month to visit Corfu, it’s a great time for more authentic experiences. The sunny days are not too hot, and walking around the castles, fortresses and hiking trails is a lot more pleasant.

October is a good month for trips up into the mountain villages, and tasty local food in the tavernas that cater to year round clients and not just tourists.

Andros in October

Andros island in the Cyclades is often overlooked by people planning a summer island hopping trip, but it’s one to be considered for autumn travel in Greece.

Outdoor enthusiasts in particular will find that October is the best time to go to Andros, especially if hiking is a priority. There is a network of trekking trails all over the island, connecting villages and places of cultural significance.

If you haven’t heard much about Andros island before, why not buy yourself a copy of our Andros travel guide on Amazon!

Kefalonia in October

The tourist season in Kefalonia may be drawing to an end in October, but the first two weeks still provide enough sun and warmth to keep swimming. Well, just about!

With no crowds, and the seasons turning, October can be a good time to see local harvest where grape picking and wine making start to transition into olive picking.

Syros in October

Famed for its neo-classical architecture, Syros is the capital of the Greek Cyclades islands. While the summer months are the most popular time to visit, October can be quite interesting.

With a lively student population, you can find bars and tavernas, live music venues and gatherings that have more of a local touch than you’ll find at other times of year. You probably won’t want to spend more than a few days, but you could combine a visit to Syros with a stay in Mykonos with a little island hopping!

October- a Good Time to Travel to the Caribbean

Costa Rica October weather patterns. October is one of the rainiest months on the west coast and one of the driest on the east. A good time to visit the Caribbean.

Select MonthJanuaryFebruaryMarchAprilMayJuneJulyAugustSeptemberOctoberNovemberDecember

The typical rainfall patterns are inverted this month some of the top itineraries to the Pacific resort areas get washed out.  It’s the perfect time of year to get a bit off the beaten path and head to the east coast.

October Weather in Costa Rica

October is the rainiest month on the Pacific but driest on the Caribbean (other surprising secrets of October).

Days and even weeks of rain can be generated on the west coast and over the central mountains by the westerly winds called temporales del Pacífico. Many lodges and tours on the Osa and southern coast shut down operations.

October may be the rainiest month but the Costa Rica Time Machine can find the driest destinations.

Even the traditionally dry Guanacaste region has some rain most days and the unimproved roads of the Nicoya peninsula become impassable when the rivers rise and flood the fords.

On the other hand the Caribbean is basking in the driest and sunniest weather of the year.  The mountains scrape the moisture out of the Pacific air and by the time it reaches the coast it’s just a warm wind.

Temperatures across the country are about as low as they ever get which means averages around 80 °F (27 °C) with lows overnight about 68 to 76 °F (20-24 °C).

Up in elevation by San José temperatures average 75 to 85 °F (24-29 °C) during the day.  If you go even higher by Irazú Volcano or the cloud forests of the San Gerardos it even gets “cold” (52-66 °F and 11-19 °C).

The rainy season came in with a vengeance in back in October of 2017 as the low pressure system from tropical storm Nate in the Caribbean pulled warm moist air from the Pacific across the central mountains producing record rainfall, flooding and damage on the western side and Costa Rica’s costliest natural disaster ever.  It continued wetter than normal well into January 2018.

Planning Ahead & Reservations

In general “green season” (rainy season) travel is gaining popularity in Costa Rica, but on the Pacific side and in the mountains it’s unlikely any except the most popular hotels will be fully booked.

If you want the flexibility of traveling without a fixed itinerary or reservations October can be a good choice as long as you don’t want to go to the Osa. If you choose to travel to the southwest check to make sure that the hotels and lodges you’re interested in are actually open and accessible.

The drier weather in the southern Caribbean this time of year makes it a relatively undiscovered rainy season bargain but word is getting out quickly and if you have your heart set on a particular hotel you should probably have reservations.

Costs & Availability for Travel in October

The instant trip cost calculator is a quick easy way to get an idea of how much you’ll spend on a trip to Costa Rica in October.

instant trip cost calculator – no app to download, no mailing list to join

Lower numbers of travelers mean lower prices and most places on the Pacific side offer discounts of 20-40% throughout October. On the Caribbean October is the high season so discounts are generally not available.

Notes:

2022 is likely to be a wild ride in October with equal odds of  La Niña which normally brings even wetter weather to the Pacific side or La Nada which increases unpredictability.

The 2022 tropical storm and hurricane season is projected to be much more active than normal and while they rarely make landfall on Costa Rica’s shores they can have a huge impact on rainfall. Surprisingly although hurricanes are a Caribbean phenomenon they often have their main impact on the western side of Costa Rica.  The low pressures draw warm moist air off the Pacific and across the country causing torrential rains, flooding and mudslides.

If you’re planning to rent a car you should take a look at the rainy season driving tips.

Carnavales de Limón was cancelled for several years due to lack of funding.  In 2017 it was revived in January, cancelled in May, resurrected in July and then postponed due to Tropical storm Nate.  It came back briefly in 2019 but of course was eliminated by the Covid pandemic.  There are no plans for 2022.

rest and weather in Turkey

Less and less heat in the rays of the autumn sun, more and more frowns the sky and it rains – this is October in temperate latitudes. But it is worth getting on a plane – and in two or three hours it will take you to where summer does not even think of losing ground.

October in Turkey is considered the velvet season, when you can enjoy your vacation by the sea, without being burdened by the heat, the influx of tourists and inflated prices. Read about the weather in the resorts and what to fill every day of travel with children in the Kid Passage review.

Holidays in Turkey in October: what will please the end of the holiday season

There is a huge difference between those who have a rest in Turkish resorts in the middle of summer and those who like Turkey in October. The former prefer the heat, an abundance of entertainment, endless animation and are ready to sunbathe side by side with other vacationers. The second taste is moderate warmth, peace and half-empty beaches.

Here are some of the pluses they write about in reviews of holidays in Turkey in October:

  • the temperature of water and air equalizes at around + 25 ° C – this is comfortable weather for those who do not tolerate heat well, and for families with babies;
  • acclimatization goes unnoticed – one or two days is enough for the child to adapt to the place of rest;
  • there are few vacationers on the beaches – this is especially noticeable in the second half of October;
  • housing prices are falling – you can relax in a high-class hotel at the price that you would have to pay for a lower-class hotel in summer;
  • the weather is fine for excursions – when there is no heat, it is much more pleasant to walk around Istanbul or view the ruins of ancient cities;
  • The markets are filled with fresh fruits – strawberries and pomegranates, apples and tangerines side by side on the shelves.

But still you have to carefully consider where to relax in Turkey in October. In the resorts of the Aegean Sea, good weather usually lasts only at the beginning of the month; on the Mediterranean coast, you can sunbathe and swim until the end of October. And here you need to be prepared for cold weather or rain – in such weather, many tourists go to museums or indoor entertainment centers.

Mid-autumn in Turkey is more suitable for those travelers who like to alternate between beach and sightseeing holidays.

Another minus of the October holidays is a relatively small amount of entertainment. There are often no “bananas” and jet skis on the beaches, many water parks close in early or mid-October, children’s attractions disappear from the embankments, and animation may not work in hotels.

Finally, there are fewer charter flights to resorts. Because of this, the price of the flight may increase.

Weather in Turkey in October

In autumn it’s time to put away summer clothes and shoes. But you can put it all in a suitcase and fly after the summer to one of the resorts in Turkey. The weather in October-November is no longer as hot as in early autumn, but still generous with sun and warmth.

The weather is especially good at the beginning of October – the air and water temperatures are just right for a holiday with a child. At this time, rain is possible, but infrequent and short.

The chance of precipitation is higher in the second half of the month. The air temperature becomes unpredictable: sometimes it’s hot, sometimes it gets colder so that you don’t want to go to the beach.

The weather in Turkey at the end of October is more suitable for excursions than for seaside holidays. But even at this time, clear and warm days are possible – they can be spent on the beach. If you are going to Turkey in October with a child, take warm clothes for evening walks and in case of a sudden cold snap. Raincoats and waterproof shoes are also useful.

Air and water temperature

The warm climate of Turkey is appreciated by those who are not ready to put up with the cold rainy autumn. In October, real summer still reigns at the resorts of this country:

Resort Daily Night t water
Istanbul +20.3°С +17.2°С +19.1°С
Antalya +25.6°C +18.1°С +25.4°С
Alanya +25.9°С +25.6°C +25.7°С
Side +25.8°С +18.4°С +25.5°C
Marmaris +24.8°С +16.9°С +24.0°С
Fethiye +25.0°C +16.0°C +24.7°С

The air temperature in Turkey in October does not drop below +25°C for a long time during the day. It gets a little cold only in the last decade of the month. The nights on the Mediterranean Sea are also quite warm, but on the Aegean Sea in the evenings it is already noticeably cool.

You can also enjoy the temperature of the water in Turkey. In October, the Mediterranean Sea slowly cools down from +27°С to +24°С, the Aegean – from +25°С to +23°С. Istanbul is more cool than warm, and the weather is far from always sunny. Usually the air temperature is kept within + 16-22 ° С.

Is it possible to swim

According to tourists, swimming in Turkey in October is a pleasure. The water remains warm for almost the entire month, and often the air and water temperatures are the same. The Mediterranean Sea in the middle of autumn is warmer than the Aegean, and the main places where people swim in October and even in November are the resorts of the Antalya coast.

Only high waves can interfere with swimming. In October, the sea often storms, sometimes red flags appear on the shore – they mean that you can’t swim.

Beach holiday

The apple has nowhere to fall – this is not about the beaches of Turkey in October. The weather allows you to spend days on the beach, and connoisseurs of the velvet season catch the sun on the shore, but there is plenty of free space at the edge of the sea. And if the child wants to build a row of sandals from the sun lounger to the horizon, he can do it.

Note that by mid-October, all water activities disappear from the beaches, coastal cafes close their work. But if you are relaxing with a baby or a preschooler, you will rather be pleased with the ensuing silence. However, we note that the rescue service also usually works only until the end of September.

At the same time, the child will most likely have a company for games – if schoolchildren have to bite into the curriculum in October, nothing prevents younger children from going to the sea with their parents.
Where to go in Turkey in October to bask by the sea? Here are a few resorts where autumn has not yet come into its own.

Antalya

The main Turkish resort in early October is as warm and almost as crowded as in summer. The air temperature throughout the month stays at +25-28°C during the day and +20-22°C at night, the weather is clear and calm, 3-4 rainy days usually fall in the second half of October.

The sea temperature in the first week of October is +27°C, and then gradually drops to +24°C.

Antalya has both pebbly and sandy beaches , the entrance to the water can be sharp or gentle – it is advisable to clarify before the trip which beach belongs to the hotel. You can soak up the sandy beaches in the Lara region, in the Konyaalti region, the coast is covered with small and medium pebbles.

Antalya is a very good resort for active tourists. The city has many attractions, there are museums, from here it is convenient to go to ancient cities or waterfalls.

A variety of entertainment awaits children: the Aqualand water park and the Aktur Park amusement park are open until mid-October, and the Sandland sand sculpture complex is open until November. In mid-autumn, it is also interesting to visit Belek’s The Land of Legends theme park.

Alanya

Since the Gazipasa airport opened near Alanya, this resort has become even more popular among tourists with children. Its advantages are a long beach season, a good choice of inexpensive accommodation and a rich excursion and entertainment program.

In mid-autumn, the thermometers at the resort show +24-28°C during the day and +22-24°C at night. Only at the end of October it gets colder up to +20°C. The days are sunny, but rain is possible in the second half of the month. The sea temperature drops from +27°C to +24°C during the month. Waves often interfere with swimming, but if the sea is calm, it is very pleasant to swim.

Minus the beaches of Alanya – a rocky coast and a sharp entry into the water. Sand covers Cleopatra’s beach within the city, as well as beaches in the surrounding villages of Konakli, Avsallar, Incekum.

Although entertainment is gradually phasing out in October, the large Water Planet water park is open throughout the month. Sealanya Seapark is open until mid-October. Also with children you can walk around the old town, see the fortress and the Red Tower, visit the Damlatas cave, which is located right on the beach.

Side

The lively resort of Side calms down in October. Meanwhile, the weather here is wonderful: the air temperature ranges from +24°C to +28°C during the day and from +20°C to +22°C at night, the wind is weak, the sun is very gentle, and the water temperature slowly drops from +27 °С to +24°С.

The spacious sandy beaches of Side are one of the main advantages of this resort. The entrance to the water is smooth, it is very shallow near the shore, so that the kids can swim at their pleasure. The beach of the village of Cholakly is considered ideal for relaxing with kids, but in October Side will also become a good place to relax (it is too crowded in summer).

The entertainment program at the resort is very modest, although from here it is easy to get to Alanya and Belek, where water parks continue to operate in autumn. But Side’s own attraction is the ruins of the ancient city, located right in the center of the resort. Also from here you can go on a tour of the ancient cities of Aspendos and Perge.

Marmaris

October on the Aegean Sea is not always generous with warmth, and it is advisable to choose a resort in this region of Turkey only if you are going to rest at the very beginning of the month. The daytime air temperature in Marmaris at this time is + 22-27°C, at night it gets colder to + 16-20°C.

The sky is not often overcast, the rains usually begin in the second half of October. The sea temperature until mid-autumn stays within +24-25°C, but sometimes drops to +23°C.

The main advantage of Marmaris for beach lovers is the calm sea. The beach in the resort is sandy, the bottom is flat, covered with small pebbles.

In October, Marmaris is more suitable for a holiday with a baby, since the water parks are already closed, and only excursions can be offered to teenagers. One of the most unusual is a trip to the Turtle Beach in Dalyan, where large sea turtles live.

Fethiye

A tranquil resort at the junction of the Aegean and the Mediterranean will appeal to those who value privacy. The weather in the first half of October is also sure to please. The air temperature almost never drops below +24-25°C during the day, although at night the thermometers slide down to +16°C. Gloomy days are rare, heavy rains are not to be feared.

The sea off the coast of Fethiye is warmer than in other Aegean resorts. In the first half of October, the water temperature is kept within +24-27°С.

The beaches of Fethiye are modestly equipped, but they are cleaned well. Moreover, travelers often go to wild beaches near the resort. The most picturesque places are the sandy beaches of Patara, Kabak, Paradise Beach.

Entertainment in Fethiye is not enough even in the high season, and rest in October can be devoted to excursions. The main attractions of these places are the Lycian rock tombs, the Blue Lagoon, the Butterfly Valley, the ancient cities of Patara and Xanthos. Cool autumn weather is good for traveling along the Lycian Way – a route laid through the territory of the ancient state.

Excursion rest

In July-August, the scorching sun is not the best accompaniment on excursions. But when the heat subsides with the onset of autumn, you can travel as much as you like to the ancient cities and natural attractions of Turkey.

October is the best time to visit the ruins of ancient Ephesus, Phaselis or Aspendos, the white travertine terraces of Pamukkale, the Upper and Lower Duden waterfalls, the Green Canyon. In Antalya, you can see the old city of Kaleici, in Alanya – a medieval Seljuk fortress, in Side – a huge ancient amphitheater, in Fethiye – Lycian tombs.

If you are much less interested in the sea than excursions, choose Istanbul as your holiday destination. With older students, you can visit the Hagia Sophia, and the Blue Mosque, and the Topkapi Palace, and the Basilica Cistern, and museums – archaeological, maritime, military, polytechnic.

Well, adults may wonder not only what to see in Istanbul, but also how to do it. One of the unusual ways is to enjoy the views of the city while having breakfast on the roof of the hotel. This service is provided by many hotels in Istanbul.

Also in October you can go on a boat trip along the Bosphorus or the Princes’ Islands, where there are many attractions. You just need to dress warmly, because a cold wind blows from the water.

Entertainment for children

Autumn in Turkey can be recognized not so much by the weather, but by the fact that every day there are less and less entertainment in the resorts. Is there a chance to diversify your leisure time in October? Fortunately, there is.

In Antalya with children, you can visit the Aqualand water park, the Aktur Park amusement park, the aquarium, the zoo. Until mid-November, the Sandland sand sculpture complex is open at the resort.

Kemer continues to operate “Dinopark”, in Belek – a delightful water park and amusement park The Land of Legends. The best water park in Alanya Water Planet and Sealanya Seapark are also open.

If you are going to Istanbul with children, dilute the excursion program with a trip to the zoo, Isfanbul amusement park (former Vialand) and Miniaturk park, where you can see small copies of the main attractions of Turkey. In rainy weather, we recommend heading to the Sea Life Aquarium, Dolphinarium, Kidzania City of Professions or the snowy town of Snowpark.

Holidays, events and festivals

There are not so many holidays in Turkey as we are used to. But October is one of the most important dates in the history of the country. 29On October 1923, the Turkish constitution was amended: the Ottoman Empire ceased to exist, and Turkey was proclaimed a republic.

Every year on October 29, military parades and processions of schoolchildren are held in the country, and celebrities perform in the squares in the evening. The holiday ends with a massive fireworks display.

The birthday of the Prophet Mohammed may also fall in October – Mawlid al-Nabi . For tourists, this is an opportunity to see the solemn illumination in mosques and buy a sugar figurine of the “prophet’s bride” or a rider.

Various festivals can be added to the Turkish holidays in October. We recommend cinema lovers to visit the festival “Altyn-Portakal” in Antalya.

Those who love a variety of sports will enjoy the Sailing Race in Bodrum and Marmaris , Paragliding Festival in Oludeniz. Alanya in early October hosts culture and art festival .

Vacation prices

Prices in Turkey in October are getting lower every day. This is especially noticeable in the second half of the month, when the high season ends.

air tickets

Airfare to Antalya, Dalaman, Bodrum is relatively stable throughout the holiday season. In October, a flight can cost 1-2% more than in September. In November, the price is reduced by 15-20%.

Tickets to Istanbul in October are 2-3% cheaper than in September, in November the cost drops by another 5-7%.

Hotels

At the end of the season, the cost of holidays in Turkey drops significantly – every new client is important for hotels. It is in October that you can stay in a hotel with a high level of service for the money that you would have to pay for an average hotel in July-August.

In the middle of autumn, the cost of rooms in resorts drops by about 25-35% compared to September. In November, prices drop a little more. Housing prices in Istanbul change differently. In October, rooms can cost even more than in September, with a difference of up to 50%.

  • Turkish hotels for families with children

Tours

Package holiday prices in Turkey are gradually decreasing. In October, a ready-made tour costs 10-20% cheaper than in September.

Meals

Judging by the reviews of vacations in Turkey in October, food costs may decrease due to the fact that cafes in tourist places are gradually closing in October, and there are many inexpensive and cozy places among local residents. For comparison, a meal in a coastal cafe can cost about 50 lira, and in a cafe away from the sea – up to 30 lira.

In autumn, markets abound with fruits and vegetables. Here is the estimated price for 1 kg: figs – 5 lira, early tangerines – 1.5-2.5 lira, apples – 2.5 lira, grapes – 4-5 lira, pomegranates – 3 lira; tomatoes – 1-4 liras, eggplants – 1.5 liras, cucumbers – 1.5-5 liras, peppers – 3 liras. Prices are usually higher in markets in tourist areas.

Shopping

October is a time of great sales in the Turkish markets: before the end of the season, sellers tend to sell more goods. Prices can indeed be very pleasant, but it is important to carefully consider the goods so as not to buy something of low quality or fake.

Tourists often bring leather clothes and accessories, jewelry, home textiles, knitwear, copper pots, tea and coffee utensils from Turkey. If you are planning a solid purchase – for example, a fur coat, it is better to go to the store, because there are many fakes on the market of poor quality.

Tips for traveling with children

Holidays in Turkey in October with children have many advantages. But as the high season comes to an end, there are also some disadvantages – if you know about them and properly prepare, the trip will only bring joy.

  1. Although the days can be hot, in the evening it gets cold up to +17-18°С, and in the early morning it can reach +14-15°С. In your luggage, put not only a windbreaker, but also warm clothes. Prepare a light hat for the child.
  2. The weather in October is unpredictable, especially in the second half of the month. So that the children do not get bored in the room while it is raining, bring board games or an interesting children’s book with you.
  3. Many hotels are already closing animation programs and children’s clubs in October. Find out if animators will work at your holiday destination. Since it gets dark early in Turkey in autumn, the entertainment program at the hotel will definitely not be superfluous.
  4. It gets dark fastest in the mountains. Therefore, Antalya has a longer daylight hours than Fethiye.
  5. Hotels have been preparing for the new season since autumn. We recommend that you find out before booking when the hotel will begin renovations.

In order not to search the Internet for information about accommodation in resorts, use the Kid Passage family hotels collection. In each of the hotels in Turkey, selected by our site, you will find a full range of services for families with children and high quality service. And in order to please you with beauties, Turkey will cope on its own.

October in Barcelona: what to be prepared for?

October may not be so good for a beach holiday, but this is one of the best periods to visit Barcelona. The feeling of the August sauna has already passed, the weather is quite warm (+21º on average), the city streets are beginning to be decorated with autumn foliage, and cafes and museums are not so crowded. Trouble can only be delivered by the changeable nature of the weather. The sky is increasingly overcast with clouds and real bad weather cannot be ruled out. Inclement weather is by no means uncommon in mid-autumn, but usually does not last more than 1-2 days in a row.

Weather conditions

October can be divided into two parts. The first is the end of the beach season, when the sun still heats the air up to +25..+27, and the water of the Mediterranean Sea – up to +21..+23. It is cooler in the evenings, the thermometer drops to +20, and for walks you have to wear something with long sleeves. Rains for this period are not very characteristic, but they should not be completely excluded. Such weather persists in the first decade of the month.

And then autumn comes to the capital of Catalonia. More and more cloudy days, rainfall is more likely (especially since October is considered one of the rainiest months – here precipitation falls on average 5 days a year). Temperatures are also dropping. Now the air warms up to +18..+21 degrees, and the water in the sea – up to +18.

Average October weather by days for the last 7 years of observations

The beach season officially closes on October 15th.

What to take with you in your suitcase

Those who are going to Barcelona in early October should hardly worry about serious insulation. It is more likely that during the day you will be more comfortable in light trousers, a short skirt or breeches. In the evening, you will have to change into jeans and put on a light sweater. In case of bad weather, it makes sense to bring a light jacket and an umbrella with you (or buy one on the spot).

How tourists dress at the end of October

In the second half of the month it is better to bet on clothes that will cover bare spots on your body. Jeans, a jumper and a light jacket are quite suitable for walking around the city in the second half of October. Dresses are useful only in the presence of warm weather. Keep in mind that the weather during this time is very unstable, so you will need to be prepared for any weather scenario.

Warm clothes are definitely not needed. The worst thing you can expect at this time is a few rainy days in a row.

Prices for air tickets

The tourist season begins to end closer to the middle of the month, so the prices for air tickets start to fall. In terms of price, this is one of the best periods to travel to the capital of Catalonia.

Hot places to jet off to this October

By Dale Western on 16 September 2015

Autumn’s finally hit the UK, and if you’re chasing the sun, here are some destinations that we recommend.

The Canary Islands:

The Canary Islands, found just off the west coast of Africa, must have some of the happiest residents in the world; they’ve got high temperatures all year long and you’re pretty much guaranteed to feel the heat all October.

The average tempertaure is 24°C during October in the Canary Islands, and you can expect seven hours of sunshine per day. Gran Canaria, Tenerife, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura are all well-loved tourist hotspots, and because you’ll be booking out of season, you’ll be able to find a bargain. If you’re looking to get away from all of the tourist traps, give La Gomera, La Palma and El Hierro a go. They’ve got some wonderful scenery and quiet resorts, so if you’re looking for a couples’ retreat, they may be more appropriate.

The Red Sea:

If you like your holidays pre-packaged and all-inclusive, book yourself in to one of the Red Sea resorts in Hurghada, Sharm El Sheikh, Marsa Alam or Taba. These purpose-built havens for tourists offer unbeatable all-inclusive deals and all the entertainment you could possibly need – so if you want nothing more than to lie in the sun, eating and drinking, you’re in luck.

However, there’s more to this area than unlimited booze and lazy days. Don’t forget to take a trip to the Red Sea and go snorkelling or scuba diving. The waters are lusciously clear and teeming with marine life.

The average October temperature is 27°C and you could enjoy up to ten hours of sun a day – scorchio!

Cyprus

With an average October temperature of 21°C and plenty of deals to be found, Cyprus is ideal for anyone seeking a week of relaxation. There are plenty of deals to be had at this time of year, so make sure that you shop around.

If you’re planning a family holiday, head to Coral Bay in Paphos; it’s quiet, safe, and kids can play in peace. The hotels here range from simple self-catering apartments to all-inclusive spas and golf complexes.

Here’s the good news – if you hate flying or you have a young family, the flight’s just under four and a half hours.

Dubai:

The flight’s slightly longer (you’re looking at around seven hours in the air), but there’s no denying that Dubai is perfect in October; visiting any earlier in the year would be hugely uncomfortable due to the soaring temperatures. It’s still roasting, though – expect October temperatures to hit 29°C every day, and you should be getting ten hours of sun.

Dubai has grown rapidly over the past few years and there’s a good reason why it’s known as a millionaires’ playground. There’s everything here you could possibly need to enjoy a luxurious break – golden beaches, crystal clear seas, every watersport you can think of and enough shops to melt your credit card. There are even theme parks and an indoor skiing slope – what more could you ask for?

  • Weather in Marmaris in February
  • Weather in Marmaris in March
  • Weather in Marmaris in April
  • Weather in Marmaris in May

  • Weather in Marmaris in July
  • Weather in Marmaris in August
  • Weather in Marmaris in September
  • Weather in Marmaris in November
  • Weather in Marmaris in December

Where does this data come from

Weather data for Marmaris was collected from the MERRA-2 project from NASA, which used a climate model combined with historical data from weather stations around the world to estimate what the conditions were like for every point on the Earth.

For all data based on historical data, we’ve averaged the data from the past 11 years (2010-2020). For example, for the hourly temperature at 10am, we’ve looked at the temperature at 10am on every day in October (e.g., October 1, October 2, etc. in 2010, 2011, etc.) and took the arithmetic mean. We did not smooth the data, so for example, our daily temperature line will have some randomness due to the fact that weather is random in the first place.

And if you are unlucky with your vacation during the summer season, don’t despair – you have a wonderful chance to return to the warmth for a while and have time to enjoy the sea. Here are some more advantages of autumn travel:

  • A small number of tourists. Despite the popularity of the velvet season, the bulk of vacations fall in the summer, so hotels and beaches are freer in October, and vacation prices are slightly lower. nine0018
  • No exhausting heat. The thermometers sometimes rise to +30°С, but the average temperature in October is about +25°С. Solar activity is no longer so high, the likelihood of burns and heat strokes is reduced, but the quality of the autumn tan does not cause the slightest complaint.

  • The water parks of the resort are closed in October, and some restaurants and bars are also closed, they will reopen only at the beginning of the season. If this is important to you, it is better to choose the last week of September for your vacation. nine0034

The 14 km long coastline offers beaches with paid and free sun loungers, beaches with developed and undeveloped infrastructure, crowded and where there are few vacationers – in general, diversity is guaranteed here.

Excursion holidays: what to do in October

Mid-autumn in a seaside resort near the Aegean Sea is characterized by very comfortable weather for walking, so it’s time to combine a beach holiday with sightseeing. Although the water parks are already closed until the beginning of the next season, and October is more suitable for families planning a quiet and relaxing holiday on the beach, there is something for both adults and kids.

The beginning of October usually pleases with sunny days, inviting to the beaches. Stunning sea and mountain views from the top rows ancient amphitheater located in Marmaris itself.

Researchers date the time of its construction to the 4th-5th century BC. The amphitheater has the shape of a semicircle, in the center of which is a large stage. Now symphony concerts are held here for local residents and guests of the city. You can walk on the millennium-old steps, admire the views and go down to the sea and relax on the beach.

So that the kids do not have to be bored, go with them on an evening walk for Atatürk Boulevard , next to which there are several playgrounds in the park.

This is how you combine entertainment for the baby, dinner in one of the nearby cafes and a stunning spectacle that awaits you on the boulevard from nine o’clock in the evening. Don’t forget to bring a light jacket with you – evenings in mid-October can be chilly.

Singing fountain show takes place here every day. Under a variety of musical compositions, jets of water create incredible ornaments and weaves. nine0003

The water and light show simply captivates and leaves neither children nor adults indifferent. Inventive tourists, in order to take advantageous places, usually come in advance or go up to the second floor of a nearby restaurant – there are enough spectators for the magical action on any day.

At the end of October, some restaurants and cafes are closed, water parks are no longer working – the city is preparing to relax after the tourist season. However, Archeology Park “Prosperous Rocks” is always open for visits, especially since admission is free.

All the rocks here are planted with cacti and plants that grew many centuries ago. Also in the park you can see antiquities found during excavations in the vicinity of Marmaris and dated to the 4th century BC.

Events begin on the eve of the holiday, on the evening of October 28, and end with a concert program and colorful fireworks. Hotels usually organize their entertainment programs so that the end of the holiday season here is noisy and fun. nine0003

Shopping

Turkish shopping as an independent entertainment: it is an obligatory part of the excursion program of most tourists. Colorful local markets vying with each other offer a variety of souvenirs, clothes, dishes, seasonal fruits – their range is quite wide.

The main thing to remember is that here no one is safe from scammers, and the return and exchange of goods does not apply to market trade.

  • Marmaris Family Hotels

Food

It is unlikely that food prices will drop even by the end of the holiday season. If you are not on the All Inclusive system and want to save some money, then you should choose establishments that are far from the sea and little known to tourists.

The cost of lunch or dinner for two in a cafe or restaurant will vary depending on the location and popularity of the establishment – from 7 to 12 euros.

  • Food and grocery prices in Turkey
  • Seasonal fruits in Turkey

Well, local snacks, like the famous simit (worth up to 1 euro), balyk-ekmek (delicious fish in bread for 2-3 euros) or dondurma (local popular ice cream worth no more than 2 euros) can be tried everywhere – their price will not be especially different.

Recommendations for families with children

We can definitely say that the beginning of October is one of the most suitable periods for families with kids in Turkey. There is already a decline in the tourist flow, and the weather is still conducive to long walks and visiting the beach. But in the second half of the month, weather surprises are possible in the direction of cooling. nine0003

Playgrounds and all-round animation will not let your child get bored, and warm sea water will allow you to swim in mid-autumn to your heart’s content.

Now the weather is getting cold in the UK, all I can think about is where to have my next holiday. October half term holidays are much cheaper than going abroad in the summer holidays, so check out my favourite places to go in Europe over the next 3 months.

Most of these can be found among various Europe tour packages, so it’s worth taking a look there as well.

We absolutely love having family holidays and are always looking at new places to go.

We are thinking of having a cheeky week in Europe for our October half term holiday, so thought I would check out the best hotels and the best times to go.

As we homeschool there is no need for us to go on holiday in October half term, but I have put a guide price for each of my favourites in and out of the school term time.

All of these hotels listed are all 4 star rated, and the prices are based on all-inclusive, however, other board types are available.

Before you go though make sure to check out 10 of the best children’s swimming accessories you can’t leave home without.

Where is hot in October half term?

Fuerteventura, Spain – average temperature 23°
Gran Canaria, Spain – average temperature 23°
Tenerife, Spain – average temperature 22°
Paphos, Cyprus – average temperature 22°
Costa del Sol, Spain – average temperature 19°

Table of Contents

Fuerteventura, Spain

The weather in Fuerteventura is the warmest in Europe at this time of the year with temperatures remaining in the low 20s all year round. This is the second largest of the Canary Islands and is renowned for its beautiful white sandy beaches.

This would be a perfect destination for your October half term holidays but be aware, the reason this is so warm is due to the wind. Fuerteventura literally means strong wind!

The Pierre & Vacances Village Club is a wonderful hotel, and definitely great for families. This is a 4 star resort and gets 4 stars from Trip Advisor as well, which is no mean feat.

Check out this kid’s water play area. This hotel also has a kids club, just in case either your children enjoy making friends, or you want to have a few minutes of peace!!

The prices vary massively as can be seen below, and October half term family holidays are about £826pp (all-inclusive). If like me you homeschool or are happy to take your children out of school then the cheapest week in this hotel is 12 Dec – 19 Dec at only £292pp!

Gran Canaria, Spain

Another of Spain’s Canary Islands, Gran Canaria must feature on this guide. It has 60 kilometers of beaches and the weather is very similar to Fuerteventura, just with slightly more rainfall.

Mogan Princess & Beach Club is a beautiful 4 star resort in Playa del Inglés. The beach is only 1km away from this amazing resort. There is a kid’s pool and a kids club so this is definitely a family-friendly resort.

The prices vary a lot from over £700 for a week per person (all-inclusive) in October half term breaks to as little as only £291 in December.

Tenerife, Spain

Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands and is a great place to have a holiday. The weather is slightly colder than the other two above but it is equally beautiful.

It’s dominated by Mount Teide, a dormant volcano that is Spain’s tallest peak. The last time I went to Tenerife was I am ashamed to say over 20 years ago, in fact, it was my first ever girls’ holiday when I was 17.

The nightlife in Playa de las Américas is great, but Tenerife is also a great place to travel with the family.

Aguamarina Golf Hotel is another 4 star resort that offers all-inclusive packages, which is great for families. It also has a kids club, and is literally on the pebble beach.

In Tenerife, there is an amazing water park called Siam Park and claims to be the most spectacular water attraction in Europe, which is only 20 minutes away from this hotel.

The prices in October half term are £781pp (all-inclusive) if you have children in school, however, if you have younger children or homeschool the cheapest time to go is the end of November to mid-December with a price of only £278pp.

Cyrus Weather October Half Term

As the weather in Cyprus is also amazing in October, this would make a great getaway location.

Paphos in Cyprus situated on the south-west coast of Cyprus has lots of historical sites relating to Aphrodite. There is loads to do in Paphos, from visiting lots of ruins and churches to water parks, and there is even a zoo.

Aloe Hotel in Paphos is another 4-star family-friendly resort. There is a kids pool, a kids playground, but no kids club, although they do offer a babysitting service. There is also an indoor swimming pool, so if the weather isn’t too kind you can still have a good splash about.

This hotel has 2 weeks of half term, with prices starting at £832 increasing to £1002 (all-inclusive) within these 2 weeks. If like me you can go out of half term though you can pick up a really great deal in November at only £452pp.

On the Beach doesn’t operate this hotel in December, but the other hotels I recommend on this page all have availability in December.

Paphos Weather October Half Term

Average Annual Rainfall for Paphos, Cyprus

Costa del Sol, Spain

Costa Del Sol literally translated as the Coast of the Sun is located on the south coast of mainland Spain. If you fancy getting out and about there is a sea life center in Benalmadena, and I would recommend a trip to Ronda.

Ronda is a mountaintop city in Malaga and is breathtaking. Check out some more amazing things to do in Costa Del Sol here.

Holiday World Resort has absolutely everything you might need for a holiday with the kids. We had a week here last summer, it is huge and definitely geared up for kids. There are lots of pools and plenty of kids pools.

This is the cheapest of the hotels mentioned in the list starting with half term week at only £634. The weather, however, is the coldest at only 19 degrees in October half term holidays. Although with London’s average temperature of only 13 degrees in the same month, it will certainly be hotter than being at home!

Best overall October half-term destination: Costa Adeje, Tenerife

Costa Adeje, Tenerife | Find a hotel in Costa Adeje

Tenerife is a top-rated family destination famous for its year-round warm weather, child-friendly activities, and family-friendly accommodation. At just over four hours from the UK by plane, you can touch down knowing there is something to suit all ages and tastes.

The most popular resorts are in the south, just a short trip from the airport. Playa de las Americas, Los Cristianos and Costa Adeje are all firm favourites, with white sandy beaches and excellent family activities. Each resort has its quirks, so do your research before you book.

Where to stay

Check out the Fantasia Bahia Principe Hotel for a fabulous all-inclusive option offering the perfect base for your Tenerife adventures.

Top tip

Check out the Siam Park waterpark which all the family will love, and the nearby Teide National Park for exploring and mountain biking.

What Mumsnet users say

“We went to Tenerife at half term Costa Adeje – was lovely. The high 20s. We were surprised by how nice the weather was.” voxnihili

2. Best for active families: Tyrol, Austria

Tyrol, Austria | Find a hotel in Tyrol

Discover the beautiful Leutasch Valley on two wheels and by foot – from meadows to high mountain passes, you’ll find some of the most picturesque valleys in Europe, with strings of pretty villages throughout. Temperatures aren’t as high as other destinations like Dubai in the UAE, but highs of 10°C mean activities here don’t leave you roasting.

Mumsnetters recommend booking with Tyrol Adventure for cycling and walking adventures. Their self-guided family activity holidays offer two family-friendly hotels, both with an indoor pool.

During your stay, you can explore a dramatic gorge, take a cable car into the high mountains, visit Innsbruck and swim in rivers and lakes. And best of all these are non-group holidays, so there’s no fixed timetable. Set off on the gentle terrain when you want, cycle at your pace, and rest when you want.

Where to stay

Booking with Tyrol Adventure for your stay is a must, but if not, there are plenty of accommodation options you can find on sites like Hotels.com.

Top tip

Tyrol has its own unique cuisine. Bacon dumplings are a Tyrol staple, best enjoyed in soup or with sauerkraut.

What Mumsnet users say

“We went through a stage of going to various parts of Austria and while Zell am See is definitely more beautiful – Saalbach is definitely more child friendly with lots to do (you should get the Joker Card included) and at the end of the valley is the hanging bridge and treetops bit. Lots of activities to do and walks that are for children.” Quartz2208

Best luxury family holiday for half-term: Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Dubai, United Arab Emirates | Find a hotel in Dubai

Situated on the coast of the United Arab Emirates, Dubai offers both a city break and a beach holiday combined into one. Parents can enjoy huge shopping malls and exquisite restaurants, family-friendly hotels with kids’ clubs and popular attractions include KidZania, Dubai Aquarium, Ski Dubai, and the Green Planet.

Make sure to head out on a desert excursion too, activities like sandboarding and desert safaris are so much fun. Not forgetting the emirate’s award-winning waterparks like Aquaventure and Wild Wadi, which everyone will love regardless of their age.

In October, the average high temperature is 36°C, with plenty of sunshine and a pleasant, warm ocean. Evenings stay hot and it’s very rare for it to rain in October. All you’ll need to pack is your sunnies and swimwear.

Where to stay

Stay at the Centara Mirage Beach Resort. This brand-new hotel boasts a beachfront pool with waterslides and a lazy river as well as kids’ clubs and a family-friendly lounge. You can also check out our guide to the best family hotels in Dubai to help you plan your stay.

Top tip

October to March offer the coolest of temperatures for visitors. Aim to dress modestly and avoid PDAs. Try and choose a location that’s close to a public transport option, like Dubai Metro, to help you get around the emirate easily.

What Mumsnet users say

“We have stayed in Le Meridian Mina Seyahi 10 times now. It’s very child friendly and has just had a small water park built in its grounds.” ihearttc

“For winter sun it’s a great destination. Hotels are excellent , service is good and if it’s a beach holiday you are after it ticks the boxes. We’ve been as a family many times and my kids love it.” Anjo2011

4.

Best for babies and toddlers: Paphos, Cyprus

Paphos, Cyprus | Find a hotel in Paphos

Cyprus is the ideal destination as it has the perfect mix of culture, glorious beaches, scenic mountains and family-friendly accommodation all within a five-hour flight.

During October temperatures reach highs of 26°C. But once the sun goes down little ones can get chilly, so it’s worth packing cardigans or light hoodies.

Tots will no doubt love exploring all of the ancient history there is to see in Paphos – all set within a small area, little legs will easily get around or if not, taking a baby carrier with you will help when they grow tired. Paphos is also home to the Aphrodite Water Park, which offers a play area designed for babies and tots.

Where to stay

A great choice for a baby and toddler friendly hotel in Cyprus is The Olympic Lagoon Resorts, Paphos. It is a 5* luxury beachfront hotel and one of Cyprus’ leading child-friendly resorts. There are plenty of pools, a creche for babies aged 6 months+ with a soft play area, and fully qualified staff to look after them. Little Monsters Kids Club offers all-day and evening entertainment for older children, ages 3 to 12. So parents can relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings while their children play.

Top tip

The capital Nicosia is divided by a green line between Greek and Turkish Cypriots. It’s an unmissable day trip, but if you cross the border from North and South you will need to show your passport.

What Mumsnet users say

“Yes been a few times. Plenty of resturants down by the harbour – you can walk or get the bus to tomb of the kings and theres plenty of historical stuff to see round the harbour.” chipsandpeas

5. Best budget destination: Antalya, Turkey

Antalya, Turkey | Find a hotel in Antalya

Turkey offers an affordable family holiday. This applies to everything from hotels to cafes, restaurants clothes, and even souvenirs. Combine all of that with the current rate of exchange and your pounds will go a long way!

The country has some of the world’s leading child-friendly hotels and resorts, and they sit alongside the Aegean and Mediterranean coasts. When it comes to choosing an area to stay, a firm favourite by Mumsnetters is Antalya. The resort city is home to one of the largest aquariums in the world and the action-packed Lands of Legends Theme and Water Park.

Alternatively, Bodrum is a fantastic choice if you require a quick transfer from the airport. Or you can consider Fethiye for its crystal clear blue waters and sandy white beaches. Wherever you go in October in Turkey, the weather is gorgeous and offers temps of between 20°C and 25°C, depending on your location.

Where to stay

Check out the all-inclusive Side Star Resort Hotel for a five star bargain break.

Top tip

Take cash with you as you cannot rely on cards, most service providers prefer cash, and ATMs are unreliable.

What Mumsnet users say

“Antalya is lovely, there’s a bus that goes on the front of Lara Beach straight to the old town with the ruins and harbour, a few lovely restaurants overlooking the sea.” CustardGoodJamGoodMeatGood

6. Best for a laid-back escape: Sal, Cape Verde

Sal, Cape Verde | Find a hotel in Sal

The archipelago of Cape Verde is made up of ten volcanic islands and is about a six-hour flight from the UK. Thanks to its location off the west coast of Africa, the destination offers sunshine all-year-round.

Although the islands are an up-and-coming destination, they each offer fine white sandy beaches, lively surfing, and modern all-inclusive hotels. Plus, resorts here are incredibly child-friendly, making Cape Verde a must-try destination for Mumsnetters.

One particular island to visit is Sal. Known as a beach lover’s paradise, Sal is the archipelago’s most popular island for holidaymakers – and the easiest to travel to, and get around. Alongside golden, sandy beaches with azure waters, Sal is also home to Espargos and Santa Maria, and the latter offers hotels with everything you need within a 20-minute walk. Enjoy everything Cape Verde alongside a welcomed temperature of 30°C.

Where to stay

Ideal for families, experience world-class service at Melia Dunas Beach Resort & Spa complete with a water park, kids club, all day and evening entertainment.

Top tip

Pack baby necessities such as nappies, formula, baby food and wipes. Even though there are mini-markets in the larger towns, you may struggle to get these items.

What Mumsnet users say

“I loved it. Boat trips, a little island tour, swimming, long walks on the beach and not too crowded with people like the Med is. The sea is very clean too. I’d go again.” HotSauceCommittee

“Most things are imported, the tourist industry is fairly new so dont expect the same service you might get at more established places, and it can be expensive. If you just want all inclusive and to laze around a pool it might suit. We like to explore, go out of the hotel, eat at different restaurants etc and this seemed very primitive on those fronts.” Elouera

7. Best for non-stop, family fun: Orlando, Florida

Orlando, Florida | Find a hotel in Orlando

Discover the land of theme parks, attractions and some of the best beaches in the world, in the heart of the Sunshine State of Florida. Whether you’re looking for thrilling rollercoasters or magical moments with Mickey and friends, Orlando keeps everyone entertained from morning until night and offers heaps of family fun.

October is a fantastic time to visit for non-stop fun. Mickey’s not-so-scary Halloween party at the Magic Kingdom, the themed parades, the shows, and pumpkins everywhere, nowhere does Halloween like Disney!

For October, Orlando sees highs of 29°C. Days are usually hot with balmy evenings, so visitors are advised to pack light and cool clothing.

Where to stay

A Disney resort hotel, a hotel near Universal Studios, a private villa, a hotel near International Drive… The choices of accommodation in Orlando are endless and depend on what suits you as a family. It’s worth researching different options and costs.

Top tip

If you visit before your child turns three you’ll avoid paying for park entrance at Walt Disney World – they’re considered as ‘special guests’ of Mickey Mouse and do not need theme park admission.

What Mumsnet users say

“You can buy day tickets for specific parks but if you are there for 2 weeks and you are doing the parks the multi passes are better value. If your children like Harry Potter then the Universal Parks are a must and absolutely magical. I never thought id like Florida at all, but the whole park experience makes for a great family holiday. Not relaxing as very busy but so much fun.” OverByYer

“It is quite a rainy time of year depending – but then again you get Halloween so swings and roundabouts.” ChristopherTracy

8. Best long-haul destination: Playa del Carmen, Mexico

Playa del Carmen, Mexico | Find a hotel in Playa del Carmen

Picture postcard beaches, clear turquoise waters, stunning scenery, vibrant culture and tequila and avocados galore!

Mexico is one of the most popular family destinations in the world. Playa del Carmen is a big hit with families.

There’s so much to do outside your hotel for outdoor enthusiasts. With highs of 30°C in October, you’ll enjoy cooling off after a dive into cenotes (freshwater pools) – you can swim, snorkel and even scuba dive in their remarkably clear depths. Catch the ferry to the island of Cozumel or for families with older kids check out the Mayan Ruins in Tulum or Chichén Itzá.

Not forgetting Xel-Há Park! A family-friendly aquatic theme park where the kids can snorkel, swim with dolphins and stingrays or explore the jungle.

Where to stay

Check out the all-inclusive Paradisus, a luxury resort designed with the entire family in mind. It has a nursery club for babies ages 12 months to 3 years old and a kids club.

Top tip

Avoid drinking tap water anywhere in Mexico. While the water is purified at the source, distribution systems across the country allow the water to be contaminated en route to your tap.

What Mumsnet users say

“Playa del Carmen is 20/30 mins in a taxi (which the hotel will arrange) and has shops etc. Lots of great trips – Xel-ha, Xsenses, Xcaret. We love it!” sidsgranny

“Playa Del Carmen is nicer as you have the majority of the hotels behind a gated complex but anyone can enter and you can walk to 5th Ave where all the bars and shops and restaurants are and get the ferry to Cozumel. Sosayi

9. Best for a family city break: Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon, Portugal | Find a hotel in Lisbon

Lisbon is a charming, affordable city with fantastic food, quirky trams, and an impressive red bridge spanning the tidal River Tejo. It’s a great city for families with plenty to keep kids and teenagers occupied, like the Oceanarium, Castelo Sao Jorge, and the urban street art.

It’s worth noting that there are some steep hills with cobblestones in Lisbon that are not ideal for buggies, so child carriers are always a practical solution. Look out for the electric tuk-tuk city tour, which children of all ages will love.

Temps reach highs of 23°C – a comfortable heat to enjoy the city without getting too hot. But if you fancy getting outside of the city to explore, you are only a scenic 35-minute train ride from Lisbon to Cascais for a day at the beach.

Where to stay

Following on from the success of Martinhal Sagres in the Algarve, the team behind the ultra family-friendly resort has opened its first city apartment-style Martinhal Chiado hotel in the heart of Lisbon in the happening Chiado district.

Top tip

If you are planning on visiting many sites and museums that charge an entrance fee and using public transport,  you should consider purchasing the Lisboa Card.

What Mumsnet users say

“Pastel de nata, wander on foot along the waterside to LX Market to eat, tram ride across the city (early to a oid the queues), day trip to Sintra on the train (ditto). I love Lisbon, have a fantastic break!” MayBeeMee

“Warm, easy to get around, beautiful city, loads to see and do, lovely food, train to seaside at Estoril /Cascais. Nicest city break I’ve had.” borntobequiet

Best for families that can’t sit still: Westerhoven, the Netherlands

Center Parcs De Kempervennen Eindhoven, the Netherlands | Book now

For October half-term fun, why not book a classic this year – albeit, in a different location away from the UK? Center Parcs originated in the Netherlands and offers an alternative to the UK locations, which can be fairly expensive during school holidays. The country’s school holidays usually fall on different dates than the UK, meaning prices are super reasonable for the October half term – plus you get the bonus of travelling abroad and experiencing a different country too.

Located in the heart of nature around two lakes, Kempervennen is a 5-star Parc near Eindhoven with a variety of activities indoors and outdoors. It’s perfect for families especially those with energetic teenagers. The facilities include a long zip wire, aqua dome with waterslides, a snorkel pool, climbing, an indoor ski slope, an escape room and VR gaming.

Getting here

Amsterdam Port and Schiphol Airport are both around two hours away. From London King’s to Eindhoven Station, it takes six hours by train.

Top tip

It can be costly to purchase food from an onsite Parc Market. Bringing supplies with you or stopping at a local supermarket away from the site can work out more cost-effective.

What Mumsnet users say

“Compared with UK center parcs the villas were a bit run down. I’m sure they are different now. What I would say is that if you plan to use the ski place then obviously Kempervennan is the one to choose. However if you have very small children Hejderbos might be a better choice.” Hortz

“Within the last two years we have taken teenagers to De Kempervennen (Eden VIP villa) and De Vossemeren (VIP villa). We enjoyed both. I preferred De Kempervennen, but that might be because the villa was more luxurious and spacious and the weather was more pleasant. TheFirstOHN

When is the October half-term in the UK?

It’s best to double check exactly when your child’s school term and half-term lands, as some dates vary across the UK. You can do this by using the www.gov.uk website.

Generally though for this year, October half-term begins on Monday 24th October 2022 and ends on Friday 28th October 2022.

Schools that do not follow these term dates include academies, free schools, foundation schools, and faith schools – so if you’re unsure about your school’s term dates, it’s best to contact them directly.

How to save money on a October half-term holiday

To help you save some extra pennies when booking your October half-term holiday abroad, it’s worth keeping an eye on the Virgin Atlantic and British Airways websites for long-haul flight sales that take place throughout the year.

Alternatively, check out SkyScanner to find and compare different holiday destinations and flights to find the best deal for your budget.

October is an excellent month for a holiday in Europe. It’s hot enough in the southern Mediterranean to bask in the sun, and the sea will be lovely and warm. This time of year is perfect to explore Europe’s cities and you’ll avoid the crowds, higher prices and the sweltering heat of summer.

Where is the best long-haul place to visit in October?

It’s always summer somewhere. Fly another couple of hours and you can find yourselves in the Arabian Gulf with 36ºC and 10 hours of daily sunshine. October is also the start of the tourist season across south-east Asia.

Across the pond, if you’re looking for hot weather and relatively crowd-free sightseeing, October is one of the best times to visit Florida with an average high of 29ºC. Mexico also sees highs of up to 32°C in October. Elsewhere, Africa is warm, dry and sunny and The Indian Ocean is starting to come out of the wet season which is a fantastic time to visit.

Millions of households ‘cannot afford their heating’ as cold snap sets in

More than three million low-income households cannot afford to heat their homes, new research shows, posing a risk to their health as a severe chill sweeps the UK.

The UK Health and Security Agency has issued a cold weather alert recommending vulnerable people warm their homes to at least 18C, wear extra layers and eat hot food to protect themselves from plummeting temperatures.

But some 710,000 households are unable to heed the advice as they cannot pay for warm clothing, heating and food, according to analysis by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation.

A fifth of all low-income households – 2.5 million – are going without food and heating.

The survey of 4,251 people in the bottom 40% of incomes also found that around 4.3 million curbed their spending on heating ahead of the cold spell.

The survey was conducted from October 31 to November 25.

More than seven million households have gone without at least one of the essentials since June, the Foundation will say in a full report next week.

The social change organisation also found that many families are already in arrears on their bills, owing more than £1,600 on average.

Around 2.4 million households have borrowed money or used credit to afford their bills so far this year.

Freezing weather means they face the impossible decision over whether to take on more debt to heat their home to the level recommended by health professionals.

Rachelle Earwaker, senior economist at the Joseph Rowntree Foundation, said: “The Government must see that families won’t be able to get through the winter on the current levels of support.

We have issued a cold weather warning with @metoffice that all regions of England will experience severe cold weather starting on the evening of Wed 7 Dec. ❄❄

— UK Health Security Agency (@UKHSA) December 5, 2022

“For hundreds of thousands of households it’s not a choice between putting the heating on or not. Our research shows they can’t afford anything recommended to protect themselves from the effects of plummeting temperatures.

“We’re still experiencing historically high inflation and the prices of essentials are still soaring. Energy bills, while capped, are still almost double what they were last winter. Housing shortages, rising rents and mortgage payments are overburdening budgets across the country.”

“The dangerously cold weather on the horizon is cause for concern. People are being forced to wager their financial health and whether they can afford more debt, against their wellbeing without sufficient heat, clothing or hot food.

She also said the basic social security level is “woefully below” the level that would allow people to afford essentials.

The Foundation is urging the Government to change Universal Credit and increase the basic rate of support.

A Government spokesperson said: “Our priority will always be to support the most vulnerable and we recognise that people are struggling with rising prices which is why we are protecting millions of those most in need with at least £1,200 of direct payments and providing households with £400 towards energy costs.

“Our immediate support also includes our Energy Price Guarantee, saving around £900 for a typical household over winter and our Household Support Fund is helping people with essential costs. Meanwhile the Chancellor recently announced a further extensive cost of living package, ensuring those most in need are supported next year as well as this.”

Benidorm, Spain – what to see, where to go: beaches, flights, shopping, hotels, nature and attractions Benidorm

In the historical part of Benidorm there are several traditional Spanish attractions: the remains of an ancient Iberian settlement de la Cala ) , church Saint James0003 SAN Jaime ) , ruins of the 16th century viewer Torre Morales Escalets ( Torre Morales ESCALATES ) . The pretty St. Heim’s Church (18th century) is perched on top of a cliff with great views.

In the central square Plaza de Toros ( Plaza de Toros ) various city events are regularly and on a large scale – from traditional bullfighting to concerts, festivals and holidays.

Music hall Palacio Benidorm ( Palacio Benidorm ) offers interesting circus shows, flamenco theater, ballet.

Benidorm has its own museums. House Museum of Benidorm

The Agricultural Museum exhibits a variety of historical farming equipment, old implements, tools, and a real watermill.

The vibrant nightlife of Benidorm is represented by grandiose nightclubs, most of which are located outside the city – on Avenida Comunidad Valenciana (the tram stop is called Tram Disco). In addition, on Levante Beach, anyone can choose a disco to their liking. In general, Benidorm is rightly called the “continental Ibiza” – the quantity and quality of nightlife, clubs, discos and the level of DJs are quite comparable to the famous island.

A 10 minute drive from Benidorm is the famous huge amusement park « Terra Mitica » where you can have fun all day long on the most interesting and breathtaking rides. In order not to stand in line, especially during the high season, we advise to buy tickets to parks and zoos via the Internet on official websites.

Near “Terra Mitiki” there is a large safari park “Terra Natura” , on the territory of which there are more than one and a half thousand species of animals, including tigers, lions, black jaguars, crocodiles, rhinos, camels, elephants, monkeys and a huge number birds.

Also just an hour’s drive from Benidorm is the largest safari park in the region « Aitana » where you can observe the life of wild animals from five continents in their natural habitat.

Families with children will enjoy two water parks – “Aqua Natura” , located near “Terra Natura” and “Aqualandia” , which is located in the suburbs of Benidorm.

Aqualandia, in turn, is adjacent to Mundomar – the largest park in Spain with a variety of marine life and birds (the area of \u200b\u200bthe park is 60,000 sq.m). “Mundomar” is located on a hill and is part of the natural mountain and park complex “Sierra Elada” ( Sierra Helada ) . In “Mundomar” you can see marine animals in their natural habitat, as well as impressive shows with dolphins, fur seals and other representatives of the aquatic world. More than 80 species of animals live in the park. We advise you to definitely visit the unique performance of the Mundomar Park – a water ballet performance with the participation of dolphins and Spanish athletes.

The natural park-reserve “Sierra Elada” itself will be of interest to lovers of hiking and connoisseurs of beautiful views. You can choose one of the most suitable organized walking routes that will reveal to you the stunning beauty of mountain ranges, long cliffs by the sea with a height of 300 meters and picturesque bays. Prepared tourists can choose an 8-kilometer route that crosses the Sierra Elada ridge, the hallmark of the Benidorm coast. Such a “walk” will take 4 hours, but it will definitely not disappoint you.

A 30-minute drive from Benidorm you will find the region’s record-breaking destination, Guadalest , with a population of no more than 200 people. What is the secret of such popularity? This city is famous for a large number of attractions per square meter: from the Museum of Microminiatures to the Museum of Torture. The city has a fortress and a king’s castle with famous viewing platforms that offer breathtaking views of the valley and the reservoir of unusual color.

Ten minutes from Guadalest there is a mountain river with waterfalls Algara , in the cool waters of which it will be especially pleasant to swim on a hot day. Entertainment for the brave: under the supervision of lifeguards, you can dive from the equipped cliff in the deep part of the river. In addition, such an excursion will appeal to lovers of picnics in picturesque natural places.

Top 10 best places to stay with children at sea in October

Tips for tourists> where to
go to rest on the sea

The article discusses the 10 best places for families with children in October.

In October people go on vacation with small children, sometimes parents

take schoolchildren on vacation, taking days in October for the autumn holidays.
October is characterized by a rather serious difference between the beginning and end of the month. In many Mediterranean countries, the beginning of October is characterized by warm, comfortable weather, and by the end of the month, instability appears. It can rain, a cold north wind blows, and the beach season ends.
We do not recommend choosing countries of the western Mediterranean for a beach holiday with children – Portugal, France complete the season.
As for Spain, only Benidorm with its unique microclimate is suitable for a beach holiday in October on the mainland. But holidays with children in the Canary Islands at this time of the year will be very good.
In Greece, Rhodes can be considered for relaxation – as the southernmost island and only in the first half of the month, in the second half of October the air temperature can be no more than 20 degrees, the weather is the same in Sicily.
If you want to swim until the end of October – pay attention to the southeast of the Mediterranean Sea. Cyprus, Turkey (Antalya), Israel (Tel Aviv)
But, of course, the most attractive beach holiday in October is on the shores of the Red Sea. Egypt, Israel (Eilat)
However, as of January 2020, Egypt is not open to Russians.
A holiday in the UAE is also good in October, but it can be too hot for children, so Dubai is at the very bottom of the top.
Black Sea resorts are not included in the top. The weather is very unstable, but if it is not possible to go abroad, then in October you can still catch the beach season in Sochi, but only in the first week of October. Crimea is no longer suitable for an October holiday.
When compiling the top, the weather, the presence of child-friendly beaches, the presence of children’s entertainment, interesting excursions, the availability of recreation, and the duration of the flight were taken into account.

Weather in tenerife in october tripadvisor: October weather – Tenerife Forum

Tenerife mistakes and misconceptions | therealtenerife.com

I signed up to Tripadvisor in 2007 for one reason and one reason only. Its Tenerife forum was rife with misinformation.

The biggest culprit was connected to the weather. When people asked about the difference in temperatures between north and south Tenerife, coastal temperatures were given for the south whilst for the north those given were taken from readings at Tenerife North Airport, 600m above sea level. Unsurprisingly this skewed difference in altitude regularly showed at least a 10 degree variation. It was misleading and completely inaccurate.

But misinformation isn’t simply connected to the weather or restricted to Tripadvisor. In the week I started writing this I saw a travel blog reference a fiesta on Tenerife, stating it dated back to the 12th century and was linked to Catholicism. An interesting theory, as crucifix-wearing invaders didn’t conquer the island until 1496.

There is a constant flow of misinformation about Tenerife. Some of it involves simple mistakes which won’t have any impact. But others could be the difference between potential visitors choosing the island as place to enjoy a holiday or not.

For that reason, we’re on an ongoing mission to put right the wrongs when we ‘catch’ them.

About the Hard Rock Hotel – “The hotel isn’t in costs adeje as is often stated”:- Tripadvisor review
Actually, technically it is. Costa Adeje translated means Adeje’s coast and the Hard Rock Hotel being located on the coast in Playa Paraiso, which is in the municipality Adeje, is on the Costa Adeje. However, it isn’t in the resort which most visitors know as Costa Adeje and that’s where the confusion comes in.

“Costa Adeje starts at the far end of Playa Troya”: – Tripadvisor
Where Costa Adeje starts and ends isn’t a matter of opinion as some people seem to think. Playa de las Américas is in one municipality and Costa Adeje is in another, that makes where one starts and the other ends important to the councils involved if not visitors to the area. Any of the resort area west of Barranco de Troya and Barranco del Rey is located in Costa Adeje, basically Veronicas marks the end of Playa de las Américas if walking east to west. It’s all explained here.

“Los Gigantes is in a remote part of Tenerife”:- travel blog
Simply put, no it really isn’t.

“Playa de las Américas is rundown and tacky”: – Tripadvisor
Like Costa Adeje, some parts of the resort are still a bit 1980s cheesy. But much of Playa de las Américas is looking rather stylish these days. The tacky tag is an outdated view. The area around the Safari Centre is as upmarket as any of the other purpose built resort areas.

“Garachico is in the north east of Tenerife”:- Online travel magazine
Nope. It’s in the north west.

“Garachio is the former capital of Tenerife”:- same online travel magazine as above
Wrong again. It never was the capital, but it was known as the commercial capital which is what confuses some people. Oh, and it’s Garachico not Garachio.

“Nightlife in Puerto de la Cruz, not much, most places shut early”: – Tripadvisor
This was from someone who was back in their hotel before midnight… when the best of the bars are only warming up. The best nightlife doesn’t exist for the pleasure of tourists and it isn’t of the typical resort variety, but it is there and it goes on late. Somebody who wasn’t a Puerto first-timer said to me in the Beehive Bar once when talking about bars in the town, “there’s only Molly Malone’s”. Even regular visitors can completely miss it, here’s why.

Information about La Quinta in Santa Ursula – “There is a nice Plaza and some lovely restaurants and shops where you will find the real Tenerife”:- Tripadvisor
La Quinta is a modern barrio (neighbourhood) in the Santa Ursula municipality. However, it’s located above the cliffs on the other side of the motorway, and quite some distance from, the traditional town of Santa Ursula; which is where you find a wide selection of shops, bars and restaurants… unlike La Quinta. When we first moved to Tenerife an estate agent described La Quinta as being like ‘Legoland’.

“The government decided to close the Barranco due to falling rocks and the track is eroding”:- Tripadvisor
Masca Barranco was closed because of the sheer volume of injuries that had been occurring there, many as a result of the number of people walking it who weren’t fit enough to tackle the terrain or who did so wearing inappropriate clothing and footwear. The path has always been more of an adventure trail in places. The work being undertaken is to try to make it as safe as possible. Sometimes there’s advice on Tridpadvisor which could be seen to be encouraging others to walk the ravine even though it’s closed. This is irresponsible and the sort of attitude which led to it being closed in the first place.

About Teide National Park – “Hiking routes that take visitors past rivers, over other volcanoes and in between sky-scraping cliffs”:- UK travel company which specialises in hiking (not one we work with)
I reckon most people who know Tenerife will have spotted the blooper there. Anyone expecting to stroll beside rivers in Teide National Park might be a tad disappointed. You do get occasionally some lake sized pools after the snow melts though.

“The most popular supermarkets on the island are Mercadona and Hiperdino”: – Tripadvisor
Not a mistake, just not a fully rounded answer. This often happens when people give advice based on a limited knowledge usually built from experience in one or two resorts. There are only two of them, but the huge Al Campo supermarkets keep many residents in the La Orotava and Metropolis areas well stocked with food and other goods. Then there’s Carrefour, Lidl, Hipertrebol, Alteza, Supercor, Coviran, Dia and a few more. Some of these are found more in non-resort areas.

“Never hike without a guide”:- travel blog
There’s a danger travel writers/bloggers can dish out misleading advice when they stray into areas they don’t have extensive first hand experience of. Whilst it’s always sensible to take the standard hiking precautions when heading into the great outdoors anywhere, it’s total nonsense to suggest people should never hike without a guide on Tenerife. There are plenty of places we’ve hiked where that might apply, but Tenerife isn’t one of them. And I’m not saying that because we’ve written self-guided walking routes. Tenerife is a great destination for walking without a guide or in a group. Accompanying advice was to take drinking water in the hot summer months. Any hiker knows drinking water is an essential at any time of the year… anywhere.

“Carnival on Tenerife takes place in February”:- various publications & websites
Yes and no. Carnival is linked to Lent which means it is a movable event and so the dates change every year. Subsequently it can take place in either February or March.

By the time I finished this I could have added loads more, just today I’ve seen an article about Tenerife hotel tips for Arona and Granadilla de Abona which has a picture of Playa de las Teresitas near Santa Cruz.

The misinformation just keeps coming and coming.

I had a ball!

I had a ball!! I especially want to recognize several individuals:
1. Paul Bennett (bar tender on deck 18 of SeaShore Ship) Very friendly and always pleasant.
2. Cheyron Smith (Restaurant Supervisor) He listened to me regarding an issue not even related to his department. The next day, the issue was fully resolved because of Cheyron.
3. Christian Mpoyi (Restaurant Supervisor) Always fun to speak with and very professional.
4. Jamal Khan – very nice!

Just returned from a mini cruise from Southampton to Hamburg…

Just returned from a mini cruise from Southampton to Hamburg on the MSC Peziosa. Had the most amazing time and my first experience on a cruise. The staff were fantastic so attentive and helpful. The inside room was clean and had all we needed. Beds were super comfortable – entertainment was brilliant – so many bars and things to do on board – It was a great experience. My only one critique is that the toilets are not sign posted well and it’s a big ship, other than that cannot fault a single thing. My travel companion said this was the best cruise ship he has been on. I am looking forward to cruising with MSC again. Thank you!!

Iressponsible company.

MSC cruises took a booking for an elderly passenger traveling alone. Despite being informed prior that he was unfit to travel, they nevertheless let him board. He tells us he spent the two weeks of the cruise in his cabin and describes it as the worst exprience ever.

Worst customer service at MSC

Our Scandinavian cruise from Southampton on 10 September had one port Visby missed. My insurer wanted confirmation to proceed with claim. I phoned customer service and after long wait someone answered. She asked me to write to customer service and will get reply in 2 days. I wrote on 28 September and got automated response that reply by 28 days as per ABTA rules. No reply received so wrote again on 2 November and only same automated reply with different reference number. So obviously email ends up in black hole. I am mindful to write to ABTA and hopefully they may have some influence.
Ref no given were 2-16625095025 and 2-16904379234 if MSC management looks at Trustpilot

Won’t go on the Prezioso again.

Just returned from a week on the Prezioso and we were disappointed on some aspects. We did not find there was a comfortable inside seating area for the days at sea as it was not the weather to sit on deck. The entertainment in the bars was really not to our taste but the shows in the concert theatre were good. We could not fault the staff though. The cabin is what we expected having been on several other cruises, plenty of storage areas, well laid out and kept clean and tidy all the times. Only a few English channels on TV but was enough for us to keep up with the news. Heard that other MSC ships are better so perhaps would give one of those a try.

AVOID this company!!!

We booked a cruise for next year which they cancelled and replaced with a totally inferior option. We have attempted to contact and resolve many times. By phone we are told they cannot help and we have to email. We email and get a reply after 3 weeks fobbing us off each time. All we want is an equivalent cruise, but not getting anywhere. AVOID this company at all costs. ZERO customer service

Don’t bother trying to rebook

We were meant to be going on a Russia cruise earlier this year. MSC cancelled it due to the political situation. We decided to take the voucher option rather than the inferior cruise offered thinking that we could rebook something next year. We were not offered a refund. I have been contacting them relentlessly by email for months. Each time I try and book another cruise I get “there’s no cabins available” even though their booking site says there is. Each time I email it takes at least 3 weeks to get a reply. The voucher (which I’ve never physically received) expires on the 31st December. I don’t hold out much hope it will get used so I’ll have to do a chargeback on my credit card and never use this company again. Ridiculously stressful

I’ve been cruising for over 25 years on…

I’ve been cruising for over 25 years on numerous cruise lines but my 12 day on MSC Virtuosa was the worst by far.
Everything was bad, no good word about anything.
Everywhere crowded because of 5,000 adults AND 1500 plus children. Long lines everywhere for everything.
Only 1700 staff and, although lovely people, they were overworked and overwhelmed.
Now home MSC are certainly no better. Customer service is unreachable, no reply to emails or letters.
May be a cheap cruise holiday but I’ll not go with them again unfortunately.

Utter Shambles – Awful Experience

MSC’s lack of organisation and care for the safety and well-being of their passengers and staff were evident during a 12 night cruise we took from Southampton to the Canary Islands and back. The disorganisation was clearly on display during embarkation, safety drills and disembarkation when so many people were crammed into the corridors, staircases, and public areas that it was hard to move. Their ships are clearly holiday factories, built to maximise profit and passengers are crammed into these ships like sweetcorn in a tin. Cruise-prices are cheap but you definitely get what you pay for. The onboard experience is more of a Butlins/Benidorm theme with toddlers, kids, tweens and teens having run off the ship. Everything is based around families and children and unruly kids, often have unruly parents. The Virtuosa was an absolute nightmare to be in for 12 days. Never again! It was a truly awful experience from beginning to end.

MSC Divina worst experience ever!

Just got off the MSC Divina. This was the worst experience we have encountered when it comes to cruises. Check in day, waited 4 hours in line. First night woke up at 2:30am to sewage back up all in the room from shower. It took them from 6am to 10am to give us another room, no upgraded room just another room as if they had no concern what so ever. I have pictures and if this ship got audited, they would have been shut down. Unhealthy encounter, let’s pray we don’t get sick! Card machine was down so it took numerous trips to the CS desk to resolve issues. The Wi-Fi package did not work. The positive was the food was good!

The problem is the communication

The problem is the communication
Skills.
They do not look after the passengers.
We’re left in the pour rain in Hamburg. Buses were sent out to collect us 3 hours later disabled and small children everyone had to queue from one street all the way around the corner off the next street
No apologies no explanation.
Shocking

MSC Poor customer care and service

Poor customer care and service. I have cruised with them a few times but when things go wrong they don’t want to know and don’t respond to queries or questions. Last year the whole table got food poisoning from scallops- cared less said I should have gone to sick bay when I was throwing up during the night, This year I was wrongly tested for COVID taken from my cabin – to another part of ship no electric card and left for hours. Got retested and confirmed negative spend days at customer services looking for answers and apologies some people had to say on the ship for transatlantic passage and their spouses had to fly home alone. I’ve written numerous times – zero explanation was given. Definitely sail with any other company.

Horrible online presence

Trying to book a cruise online on the MSC website is rough. Spent hours going from one page to the next, but could never get the cabin package I wanted Called them direct when I got frustrated….just my luck a guy with a heavy accent who was not a native English speaker. Finally gave up and went to a third party site. ..it was booked in 10 minutes. MSC WAKE UP …IT IS NOT 1999 ANYMORE we expect better.

In the main an enjoyable cruise

In the main an enjoyable cruise, considering the price we paid. However, I thought the excursions were very overpriced; I’d booked one in advance, believing that I was making a saving compared to on board prices. Not the case, the same excursion was £20 pp less, on top of that we didn’t visit all the places on the itinerary. Shuttle buses incurred additional charges.
Staff were lovely, our Maid and our Waiters were great!

Awful experience!

Awful experience!
I booked a cruise months ago for my boyfriend and. Before our vacation we called the cruise line to make sure we have everything we needed and they told him we only needed proof of a negative test for COVID, so we both brought our proof. When we got there they told us we needed to be vaccinated. I am vaccinated but I didn’t bring my proof since they told us we only needed the negative test of COVID, my boyfriend was not vaccinated so we couldn’t go in the cruise. After a few days we called to ask if we could get our money back sand we explained what happened, so they told us we will get our money back after one or 2 cycles but we never got anything.

Horrible Horrible Experience!

Horrible Horrible Experience!
Where do I begin? My husband and I booked a trip on MSC Meraviglia to the Bahamas and it was horrendous. From the 4 hour line to board to the 3 hour line to disembark, the waits were always extremely long. They were extremely disorganized and the processes for the ship didn’t make sense. The staff were only very helpful to the Yacht Club (basically first class) passengers while regular passengers were treated like second class. There was no variety of food and very poor preparation Never would I ever recommend MSC as a cruise line again. If I could give zero stars I would. Absolutely terrible…

Why not go to Dubai? Named the cheapest beach resort for winter holidays

November 19, Minsk / Corr. BELTA/. Experts from the travel portal TripAdvisor have compiled a rating of the most affordable beach resorts for lovers of winter holidays.
The list was created based on an analysis of prices forecast by TripAdvisor for resorts around the world between December 15, 2014 and March 31, 2015. At the same time, only countries where the air temperature during this period is 20 degrees Celsius or more were taken into account.
Experts identified 29the most popular resorts that match the selected criteria. The experts also calculated how much a family of four who planned a week-long vacation would have to part with. The total “check” included the cost of a week’s stay in a two-bedroom apartment in winter, car rental, food expenses and dinner at a restaurant with drinks.
The island of Fuerteventura (Canary Islands) was recognized as the most financially profitable.

The coastline of Fuerteventura stretches for 340 km. The main attraction of the island is its sparsely populated many kilometers of beaches that attract tourists with their solitude and tranquility. Every day, Fuerteventura Airport receives several dozen charter flights from England, Germany and other countries.
The top three most accessible winter beach destinations also include the Canary island of Tenerife and Indian Goa (second and third places, respectively).
The entire top 10 most budget places for beach lovers in winter looks like this:
– Fuerteventura, Canary Islands, 665 euros for a week of rest;
– Tenerife, Canary Islands, 727 euros;
– Goa, India, 769. 3 euro;
– Grenada, Caribbean, €769.4;
– Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt, 771 euros;
– Marrakesh, Morocco, 803 euros;
– Lanzarote, Canary Islands, 818 euros;
– Sri Lanka, 822 euros;
– Orlando, Florida, 1079 euros;
– Mauritius, 1179 euros.
At the same time, experts have compiled a rating of the most expensive places for beach lovers in winter. It looks like this:
– Turks and Caicos, Caribbean, 5016 euros for a week of rest;
– Barbados, Caribbean, 2658 euros;
– Cayman Islands, Caribbean, 2331 euros;
– Dubai, UAE, 2225 euros;
– Jamaica, Caribbean, 2083 euros;
– Saint Lucia, Caribbean, 1981 euros;
– Miami, Florida, 1960 euros;
– Gold Coast, Australia, 1824 euros;
– Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, 1734 euros;
– South Island, New Zealand, 1660 euros.
The TripIndex Winter Sun study was conducted by the international agency Ipsos from October 6 to October 22, 2014, commissioned by TripAdvisor, data collection was carried out by analyzing information on the network, as well as calling employees of companies providing the necessary service.

Exploring the world of island vineyards

Exploring the world of island vineyards

Wine barrels and large bottles in Lazarote vineyard

The world’s vineyards are as varied as their locations.

From mountainous regions across Europe to coastal areas along the Pacific Northwest, diverse features in climate and soil influence flavor and growing strategies for myriad varieties of grapes. Island vineyards offer unique opportunities and challenges wherever they’re found, whether just off a mainland coast or far out at sea.

Plonk Wine Club compiled information on some of the most prominent islands for vineyards worldwide to learn about their many climates, wine varieties, and winemaking techniques.

Island vineyards can be found worldwide, from Tazmania—about 150 miles off the southern coast of Australia—to Corsica, an island more sun-dappled than any other part of France. Some are warm and full of sun, others volcanic and starkly beautiful, and still others are so small that maps nearly forget them.

Some islands, like those that make up the Canary Islands, possess unique microclimates, making them stand out from the surrounding environment and creating ideal regions to produce exceptional, delicious wines. Others—like the Portuguese island of Pico—have such hardened surfaces and intense wind that farmers have long created agricultural methods to adapt, inventing new ways of making wine.

Keep reading to learn more about the world of island vineyards.

The Canary Islands: A volcanic archipelago producing wine since the 15th century

Vineyards in La Geria Lanzarote

There are 225 vineyards and 13 wineries in the Canary Islands, each utilizing a blend of modern and traditional methods to create unique wine varieties. Nearly every island’s soil composition and microclimate lead to different wines rich in organoleptic properties.

The islands have served as a wine-cultivation hub since the 15th century when Spanish conquerors arrived. These islands are hospitable to high-quality wines despite subtropical conditions. A high altitude helps preserve acidity; winds prevent moisture collection and lower bacteria and mold risk; and volcanic soil provides roots with drainage and adds striking salty and mineral attributes to the wines.

Local grape varieties have become well-adapted to the Canary Islands’ climate. Meanwhile, farmers have devised creative solutions—such as carving terraces into mountainsides—to help their vines get the most out of the region’s unique environment. The La Geria vineyards on the island of Lanzarote practice sustainable wine-making with hand-built lava rock walls to protect the vines from the wind.

Pico: The Atlantic Ocean’s ‘Island of Wine’

Road between lava walls in vineyard with red windmill

The rugged earth and harsh winds of the Portuguese island of Pico would render the use of vine trellises hopeless—but the farmers here solved this problem by laying vines directly on the hard surface and protecting them with tall rock walls. This method of growing and producing grapes on volcanic rock on the temperate island is remarkable for its ingenuity.

People have been producing wine in Pico since the 15th century, with a setup so unique that the Criação Velha wine region is a UNESCO World Heritage site. In Pico, wine management occurs under a regime designed to ensure sustainability and economic viability and retain traditional farming techniques.

Vancouver Island: Wine tasting and whale watching on one island

Harvested wine grapes at a Cowichan Vineyard

Winemaking in Vancouver Island started in the 1920s, with people using local berries to make fruit wine—a practice that continues into the present day, alongside the creation of honey wine (mead) and sparkling and still wines made from grapes grown there.

The cool coastal climate is ideal for varietals suited to it, especially grape varieties bred for alpine and northern Europe, including reds such as Maréchal Foch and Zweigelt and whites such as Ortega and Siegerrebe. Sparkling wines and rosés, the grapes of which can be harvested at lower sugar levels, also do well—and, with great effort on the part of growers, more classic grape varieties such as pinot gris and pinot noir can also be grown.

There are more than 30 vineyards on Vancouver Island, among them Unsworth Vineyards, based in Cowichan Valley, which has invested in modern technology and sustainable harvesting.

Tasmania: Cool climate spurs sparkling wine production

Oyster Bay Tasmania vineyards in autumn

Tasmania, an island off the southern coast of Australia, has sunny, long, and dry autumns, which provide ideal growing conditions for aromatic, intensely flavored, elegant wines—pinot noir and chardonnay, in particular. Recently, Tasmania has started to get noticed for its production of high-quality sparkling wine, too.

In 2020, winemakers devoted 40% of the island’s grape crush to sparkling varietals. Commercial vineyards were first planted on this island in 1865, though the industry collapsed soon after due mainly to a gold rush, experiencing renewed interest late in the 1970s.

There are 230 vineyards in Tasmania and more than 150 licensed wine producers. Some wineries in Tasmania are focusing on sustainability as part of the Vin0 Program, a resource providing wine producers in Tasmania with help in measuring, benchmarking, and improving their management and sustainability practices.

Corsica: Mediterranean island ringed by vineyards

Rows of vines growing under summer sun surrounded by olive trees

Wine production in Corsica dates back more than two millennia, though the practice has not been consistent. The Mediterranean climate of Corsica—which gets more sunshine than other areas of France and less summer rain—is ideal for growing grapes.

In the North, nielluccio grows in the chalky limestone; in the West, sciacarello grows in the region’s granite hills.

Corsica grows more than 30 grape varieties, and several of its vineyards are origin-approved.  At least 300 winegrowers in mainland France and Corsica use draught horses to manage their fields. This method outperforms tractors on challenging terrain. It also provides a natural process for improving crop and soil health, compacting soil to a lesser degree than a tractor and providing an alternative to chemical pesticides.

Sardinia

Tiered grape gardens in the mountains of Sardinia

The Italian island of Sardinia, situated south of Corsica and north of Tunisia, is rightfully famous for its diverse offerings of wine—not to mention its other agricultural imports including artichokes, cheese, and olive oil.

The Mediterranean Sea’s second-largest island is home to Cannonau (or Grenache), Carignano (Carignan), and Vermentino grapes, and is famous for its rare native varietals. Grapevines throughout the region capitalize on the rich soil composition, including mineral-heavy clay, granite, limestone, and sandstone. The oldest winery on the island in continuous operation is Sella & Mosca, established in 1899 on the northwest coast of Sardinia.

Sicily

A beautiful Italian forest with winery and trees near Messina, Italy, Sicily

Last but most certainly not least on this list is Sicily, the largest island in the Mediterranean and home to a wide assortment of excellent vineyards. The quality isn’t surprising, considering winemaking started here as early as 4000 B.C.

Sicily’s warm and dry climate is perfect for growing grapes: a fact that led the region right into the bulk manufacturing of wines, distributing to China, mainland Europe, and India. Today, there is a resurgence in more traditional methods and organic farming on the vineyards. Like its fellow Italian regions, Sicily sticks largely to indigenous grapes including Frappato,  Nero d’Avola, and Nerello Mascalese. All told, there are roughly 450 wineries spread across 23 wine regions on the island.

This story originally appeared on Plonk Wine Club and was produced and

Royal Caribbean reveals 2024 European cruise itineraries, with Oasis and Anthem going back to Europe

You can book a Royal Caribbean cruise for summer 2024 beginning today!

The new sailings are available to book via Royal Caribbean’s website, offering a variety of ships and itineraries during the summer months when Royal Caribbean deploys its cruise ships to the region.

There are sailings between May and October 2024 to book across 6 different ships.

Here is a breakdown of where the ships will be sailing from:

Anthem of the Seas will sail from Southampton, UK and offer cruises of various lengths to destinations in Spain, Portugal, Norway and the Canary Islands.

Explorer of the Seas will sail from Barcelona & Venice to offer primarily Adriatic and Greek Isle cruises.

Jewel of the Seas will sail from Amsterdam and offer 11-, 12-, and 13-night cruises around the British Isles and Iceland. Jewel will also offer Arctic circle sailings, including a 17-night Iceland and Greenland cruise.

Oasis of the Seas will sail from Barcelona and Rome and offer Spain, France & Italy cruises in the Western Mediterranean.

  • Anthem of the Seas
  • Explorer of the Seas
  • Jewel of the Seas
  • Oasis of the Seas
  • Odyssey of the Seas

This is the second 2024 deployment released so far, as Royal Caribbean released Alaska 2024 cruises last week.

Year-round and summer Caribbean cruises are scheduled to be released during the week of December 12, 2022, with the rest of the 2024 sailings to be released “soon”. Historically, this means the rest will be released in the early spring, around March or April.

Booking early can save you money

Thinking about booking a cruise a year and a half away may seem excessive, but it is one of the best ways to get the best price on a cruise.

Generally speaking, the lowest prices for cruises are available when new itineraries are released, such as these Europe 2024 sailings. Over time, prices will go up as more and more cabins are booked up.

If you are interested in a suite, the importance of booking early is even more apparent, as these cabins usually jump up in price quickly after release.

No matter what the price is today, you can always take advantage of a lower price later with the Best Price Guarantee program, which allows for repricing of cruises in case of a price drop up until final payment date. This is available to residents of the United States and Canada, as well as select other nations.

Besides cost savings, booking early also ensures you get the exact cabin you want. A lot of cruise fans gobble up the most desirable cabins when new sailings hit the market, such as suites, extra large balcony rooms and other unique staterooms.

The warmest and most comfortable places to stay in October-November this year

Autumn is a great time to fly away for a week on vacation. Children have returned to schools, there is no summer fuss and crowds at airports, and prices at resorts are much more affordable.

Here are the destinations where it is warm and comfortable in October and November, and, importantly, you can do without a long, many hours of flight.

Cyprus

Cyprus is one of the southernmost islands in the Mediterranean Sea, and this guarantees good sunny weather almost all year round.

In October, the average temperature is 26°C and daylight hours last 9 hours. It gets only a couple of degrees cooler in November, but it’s still nice enough to enjoy the beach and al fresco dining at an average temperature of 23°C.

Ancient castles and breathtaking landscapes, a calm measured life away from civilization and large resorts such as Paphos, fresh vegetables and fruits, lamb and sea delicacies – everyone will find something for themselves on this sunny island. And the flight from Moscow is only 3 hours and 40 minutes.

Greece

Rhodes, Crete, Kos – the islands are especially good for an autumn holiday in Greece.

In Rhodes, even at the end of October, around 24°C during the day, here you can rent a car and drive around the traditional villages, climb the mountains or lie down on the cozy, calm beaches marked with the Blue Flag.

South Crete is beautiful at any time of the year. The magnificent beaches are not crowded in autumn, hotels and villas are open and ready to receive guests. Well, the average temperature is plus 25ºC.

Kos is one of the southernmost Greek islands. It is generally located near the coast of Turkey. In October and November, bougainvillea and hibiscus continue to bloom here, and the temperature does not drop below 23ºC.

Malta

Only 4 hours and 20 minutes of flight, and we are in Malta – an island “stuck” in the Mediterranean Sea between Sicily and Tunisia.

In Malta and the neighboring island of Gozo, the climate is so even that it is perfectly sunny even in December, that is, in winter.

Well, in October the average temperature is plus 25°C, in November it is a little cooler – 21°C. Tourists have plenty to see and do, from the bustling capital of Valletta, to sandy beaches and quaint fishing villages.

Portugal

In Portugal, the weather is warm both on the mainland and on the islands. Algarve, Madeira and the Azores are three Portuguese destinations that should be on your priority list if you’re looking for autumn sunshine. After all, we have no doubt that in the autumn Europe will be opened to the Russians.

Madeira is a large island in the Atlantic Ocean, located close to the Canary Islands, closer to Africa than to Europe. Gorgeous weather, sun, comfortable ocean, endless variety of excursions, the Cristiano Ronaldo Museum, hiking trails, botanical gardens, the famous funicular – beauty!

Another option is the Azores, famous for their spectacular scenery.

The Algarve mainland resort is full of tourists even outside the peak summer months. The festival season is still going on here. In October and November you can expect comfortable temperatures between 20 and 25°C.

Canary Islands

The Canary Islands are a great value for money fall getaway.

If you want to sunbathe, the Canary Islands are probably the best choice, especially for families.

Tenerife, Lanzarote and Gran Canaria – here even at the end of November it is sunny and comfortable in summer – plus 23°C.

And unusually few people, so you don’t have to fight for a place on the beach, and all the attractions, shops and bars are still open.

Morocco

October is one of the best months to visit Morocco. Yes, November is pretty good.

Weather warnings are activated for calima, rain and wind in the Canary Islands –

12/26/22, 8:11 AM

By Canarian Weekly

National

The Canary Islands Government has declared yellow weather warnings for today (Monday) due to a calima bringing suspended dust to the eastern islands (Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria), rains and storms in the western islands (Tenerife, La Palma, La Gomera, El Hierro), and strong winds in all of them which will continue into Tuesday.

Rain:

According to the General Directorate of Emergencies, persistent and widespread rainfall is expected in La Palma and El Hierro, with an accumulation of up to 20 litres per square metre in one hour and 80 litres in 12 hours, starting from midnight last night. Meanwhile, in La Gomera and Tenerife, the rains were expected around 3am this morning, forecast to last until 6pm this afternoon.

Calima and haze:

The alert for haze starts from 10:00am this morning (Monday 26th December), with an intense concentration of between 500 and 2,000 micrograms per cubic metre in Fuerteventura, and less intense in Gran Canaria and Lanzarote of between 200 and 500 micrograms.

Tomorrow, Tuesday, the suspended dust from the calima will affect all of the eastern islands, in the same way, leaving visibility of less than 1,500 metres.

Winds:

The wind alert will be activated from 6:00am tomorrow (Tuesday) when it is expected to blow from the east and southeast at speeds of up to 60km/h in low areas and on coasts, and up to 90lm/h at higher altitudes and summits of the more mountainous islands.

They are not ruling out that in some places, hurricane gusts (greater than 120 km/h) due to leeward accelerations cannot be ruled out. The most intense gusts of wind will affect the northern and western slopes of the islands.

Safety recommendations due to strong winds:

The General Directorate of Emergencies and Security recommends closing doors and windows to prevent breaking and falling glass, and removing pots and any objects that may fall from balconies and roof terraces.

You are advised to avoid going on excursions or camping until it subsides, and use public transport instead of bikes, scooters, or mopeds.

It is also recommended that you avoid walking through wooded areas and keep a safe distance away from the coast (beaches, promenades, piers breakwaters, etc) to avoid being blown into the sea by the wind or dragged into the water by the waves.

For any other advice or information call the telephone number 012. To report any emergencies call the telephone number 112.

7 holiday destinations with the best deals you need to book in 2023

If you’re anything like us, your winter evenings are spent curled up on the sofa with your cosiest blanket, hot choc in hand, and double-screening between watching the new season of Love Island and looking up the best holiday deals on your phone.

Because let’s be real, the only thing getting us through these sub-arctic temperatures, long working weeks and dark, cloudy days is the thought of jetting off somewhere sun-drenched and warm this year. But when the cost of living crisis continues to tighten our purse strings, we’re always on the lookout for the best travel bargains to help us jet-set for less.

That’s why, when we found out TUI has launched a ton of sales across its 2023 holiday packages, we knew we had to find the very best discounted destinations to help GLAMOUR readers save on their dream 2023 holiday. Plus, the TUI Live Happy sale is back, meaning you could save an extra £100 when you spend £1,000 or more; or £250 when you spend £2,500 or more using the code ‘SALE’.

So, here’s where to holiday this year, and the best deals to bag before rooms sell out (all total prices are based on two people sharing)…\

Turkey

Turkey’s tourism boom is expected to continue through 2023, with passenger levels at Turkish airports rising by 77% last year. And it’s easy to see why. The Aegean-Mediterranean idyll boasts some of the finest beaches in the Med (plus a coast with around 300 days of glorious sunshine a year), fascinating ancient sites and world-renowned cuisine.

Best Turkey deals:

Mexico

There’s a reason you saw Mexico’s bright blue waters and white sand all over your Instagram feed last summer (and the summer before that): its year-round sun and tropical beaches are the perfect place to recuperate. From the buzzy nightlife of Cancun to the Mayan ruins and jungles of Riviera Maya, to whale-watching in Los Cabos, Mexico holds the key to a holiday you’ll never forget.

Best Mexico deals:

Balearics

The Balearic Islands have long been a favourite with UK tourists, so it’s no wonder there are plenty of great deals to be found on this paradise archipelago for 2023. Whether you want to party it up in Ibiza, or chill on the pristine beaches of Majorca,r Formentera or Menorca, the Balearics are one of the safest bets for a perfect sun-soaked escape.

Best Balearics deals:

Greece

Greece is one of the most popular holiday destinations in the world, and for good reason. We don’t need to tell you how incredible its islands are (Santorini, anyone?), but beyond the beautiful big-hitters – Crete, Rhodes, Zante – there are noticeably quieter, under-the-radar gems to have on your to-visit list, too (such as Paros and Naxos). Over on the mainland, Athens is teeming with ancient history, plus it’s just a 20-minute drive from picturesque Glyfada Beach, so you can enjoy a city break and beach holiday in one.

Best Greece deals:

Canary Islands

For world-class wines, beautiful stretches of sand dunes and beaches, towering volcanoes and Spain’s highest mountain, look to the Canary Islands, where the proximity to the African coast keeps temperatures warm and the sun shining year-round. Climb Mount Teide in Tenerife, hike Timanfaya National Park in Lanzarote, explore the sand dunes of Gran Canaria or chill on the heavenly beaches of Fuerteventura.
