Costa Del Sol Beach for October

El Cristo Beach in Estepona gets incredible busy during the peak summer months, making October a great time to go. The wind regularly blows in over this region from the east, but thanks to the natural rounded shape of the bay, this cove is always protected from breezy conditions. This beach was awarded with Blue Flag certification in 2015, which is testament to its cleanliness and the high quality of its facilities that include sun loungers, parasols, toilets, showers, water sports and life guard service. The dark sandy beach gently slopes into the calm waters, although there are some steep shelves out if you venture into the deep so watch out. The harbour on one side of the bay acts as a wave breaker and ensures the sea is almost always completely still. There are a couple of bars directly on the beach which serve icy drinks and basic snacks. The prices are a little steep, but that’s what you expect for a place like this.

Playa de Los Alamos is the quietest beach in Torremolinos, although it can get absolutely packed in July and August which, again, makes October the perfect time to go. This beach is made up of fine golden sand and offers all the basic beach amenities, such as sun loungers, parasols, toilets and showers. Although the sea is usually calm, some visitors have reported seeing jellyfish here, so keep an eye out before you go swimming. This long beach is backed by a beautiful promenade which features benches, palm trees, cafes, bars and restaurants, making it a great place for a leisurely walk.

Bars and Restaurants

Zena in Fuengirola is an Italian restaurant which doesn’t settle for just simple pizza and pasta dishes you can order anywhere. This eatery prides itself on superb service and top quality contemporary Italian dishes, such as mushroom risotto, grilled veal, garlic chilli prawn pasta and peppercorn steaks, alongside homemade desserts like coffee ice cream and panna cotta. Diners can choose between the offerings of the a la carte menu, or opt for the value-for-money set menu.

For something more typically Spanish, make a reservation at La Fuente. Located in the historical centre of Benalmadena, this Spanish restaurant is set inside an old rustic house and offers a seasonal menu which regularly changes according to which local produce is at its best at the time. In addition to the a la carte and set three-course menus, daily specials are also available. To complement the food, there is a superb wine menu with local and international red, white and rose wines, cavas, champagnes, beers and spirits.

Siempre Asi in Malaga is one of the best places to go in the city if you’re in the mood for a dance. This cool club offers low lighting and plenty of space to get your groove on. If you’re not up for a dance, the spacious environment, heated music and ambient lighting create a great atmosphere to mix with the locals and international visitors which regularly flock to the club. Latino is the music theme here, with rumba, salsa and rock music also frequently played.

Declared the coolest bar in Spain, Boal’s Ice Bar in Benalmadena is the very first ice bar to appear in the Costa del Sol. The sun may be blazing outside, but inside this bar, everything is made out of ice including the walls, the seats, the sculptures, the glasses and even the bar itself. Since the ice bar is -14⁰C, you can only stay in there for a short period of time, but not to worry. When you start shivering, you can head into the outside igloo bar or coolers disco to continue the fun and warm up.

Things to do in the Costa Del Sol in October

Awarded the title of Best Marina in the World on two occasions by the British magazine International Property, Benalmadena’s Marina is one of the liveliest places in the resort. Here you’ll find 40+ international restaurants, 20+ bars and nightclubs and around 25 shops selling everything from souvenirs and perfumes to electronics and clothes. All this in addition to an aquarium, boat hire kiosks, water sport centres and sailing club the list is practically endless. Even if you don’t want to spend any money, the marina is a great place to enjoy a stroll in the sunshine and admire the flash boats (some of which are up to 6 metres long!) and soak up the sun on the Blue Flag beach.

If you’re travelling with kids, Playa Mini Golf España is a superb family-friendly activity. Situated in Benalmadena, this mini golf course has a great variety of easy, medium-difficulty and challenging holes, making it fun for the whole family. There is plenty of seating and parasols for tired adults who just want to watch the kids play, as well as a small café-bar which serves ice-cold drinks and basic snacks. With set price menu deals which include a burger or filled baguette, drink and round of mini golf, Playa Mini Golf España provides great value for money, whatever your budget.

Dining options include an informal café and a stylish restaurant, with the guestrooms having all the modern amenities expected for a well equipped and comfy hotel room, including spacious terraces or balconies.

La Villa Marbella within 10 minutes of the Marbella Orange Square, along with countless bars and restaurants, and the nearest Marbella beach, offers rooms equipped to an excellent standard and great service. Guests can expect air conditioning, fans, TV’s and mini-bars. It has been fully refurbished, with high quality and comfort in mind.

Barceló Malaga is a good high quality pick, especially for those mixing business with pleasure. All the guestrooms have complimentary Wi-Fi and excellent amenities. Within walking distance of the Malaga Amphitheatre, Barceló Malaga also features a sauna and two high-class restaurants.

Looking for a November bargain? Then look no further than Hotel Al-Andalus in Torrox. Good basic clean and comfy rooms at great rates – with friendly, attentive service to boot. Breakfast is available until 11am, so good for late risers, and the hotel benefits from some beautiful surroundings.

The Jolly Pirate in Benalmadena caters brilliantly for families with young children. This guesthouse has a play area for little ones to enjoy, a reasonably priced menu, and spacious rooms along with English TV channels. You might not miss your favourite soap after all.

h20 Estepona Palace is directly on the beach in an ideal seafront position, just 800 meters away from the marina. The perfect hotel for families, friends and couples to stay. It’s just 2 miles to the exact centre of Estepona where charm and cobbled streets are mixed with fabulous facilities. Tourists and locals love this area on Costa Del Sol.

Costa Del Sol Beach for November

Nerja’s Papagayo Beach is a great place to swim and is easy to access. It can get overcrowded from time to time, but if you go out of season, it’s a pleasant and attractive beach. There is a good quality beach restaurant to try, but it does close this month, so eat here before they shut up the establishment for the year. This beach offers sun loungers and parasols, oh and lots of friendly cats

Funny Beach in Marbella is a great place for a family with young kids to set-up base for the day. Trampolines, go-karts, great snack bars and boats are among the various attractions on offer, but be prepared to queue at busy periods. Note: you have to pay for parking.

Bars and Restaurants

The premier Mexican restaurant in the Costa del Sol is located in Fuengirola, and is called El Paso (of course). The Mexican fajita is understandably the most common dish, and there is a wide selection of Mexican tequilas or beers to wash it down with. This place is so popular, it has two dining rooms. Enjoy a lively atmosphere, friendly service and hearty well-priced portions. Salud!

The El Jardin restaurant in Malaga is set in a 19th century building and serves some of the finest Spanish food around especially the paella. Open all day, other popular dishes include Iberian hams, tapas with pescaito frito and oven-roasted chicken. The restaurant benefits from a prime location with a lovely view of a stunning garden and the cathedral. Good value and excellent service, too.

O’Neill’s Irish Pub in Malaga has Irish music playing on a regular basis, and more importantly, draught Guinness is served on tap. A friendly, lively pub O’Neill’s is popular with a mixed crowd but especially Brits missing a pint of the black stuff.

Buddy’s Bar provides a similar type of atmosphere in Benalmadena. The drinks prices are wallet friendly and the pictures and various memorabilia across the walls make an interesting conversation starter. A nice laid-back bar ideal for sinking a few bevvies and meeting up with holiday buddies.

Things to do in the Costa Del Sol in November

The Casa Natal de Picasso museum as you’d expect – is all about the great Spanish artist Pablo Picasso. His life is celebrated throughout the museum, and is a must for art lovers. The exhibition covers two floors of all of his early sketches, plus sculptures and other priceless family memorabilia. It became the headquarters of the Pablo Ruiz Picasso Foundation back in 1991, and it was Malaga where Picasso began to paint.

Another top attraction and in support of a very worthy cause – is the Nerja Donkey Sanctuary in Nerja. It is free to get in and you’ll see various animals, not just donkeys and horses. Without the help of holidaymakers’ support the charity couldn’t run this sanctuary, so a small donation wouldn’t hurt in return for meeting sanctuary’s friendly animals. A great family day out, prepare to have your hearts well and truly warmed and pleading requests for a pet donkey!

Costa del Sol is the southernmost Mediterranean resort coast of Spain with the most favorable weather indicators for compared to other resorts. The tourist brand Costa del Sol, translated from Spanish as Sunny Beach, was developed in the middle of the 20th century, quickly gaining popularity. The sun shines here 320 days a year, and in winter you can visit the Sierra Nevada ski resort while relaxing on the beach. From Manilva to Nerja, the coastline of the Costa del Sol is 161 kilometers long. nine0003

In the very center of the resort coast is the administrative center of the province of the same name, the city of Malaga, which is part of the autonomy of Andalusia. The Cordillera Betica stretches along the coast, which, by the way, provides good weather, a unique microclimate, shielding the Costa del Sol from the flow of continental air masses. Coastal cliffs create picturesque bays. The stone landscape is mixed with long coniferous forests. Vast territories are occupied by natural parks and reserves. nine0003

Mild winter weather on the Costa del Sol, when organizing a seaside holiday in Spain, is chosen by those tourists who are exhausted by the summer heat, and light freshness is the best option. In the winter months, from December to February, the temperature regime resembles a European autumn with temperatures up to 20 ° C, sometimes more. The water temperature in the coastal area is 15°C-17°C. Those wishing to carry out water procedures can use the heated pools at the hotels. Especially popular in winter are excursions in Andalusia, excursions in the Costa del Sol. There are not so many tourists, the prices for accommodation and flights are much lower. Rest on the beaches can be combined with a visit to the Sierra Nevada ski resort, skiing, snowboarding. nine0003

The spring weather of the Costa del Sol differs from the winter weather by a slight increase in temperature by 2-3°C. In March, the temperature stably adheres to 18°C and above, at night from 11°C. As usual, it is warm and sunny here, after short rains the air becomes fresher and cleaner. The surrounding mountains bloom with many colors. From mid-May, a full-fledged beach season begins, the air warms up to 24 ° C, the water acquires a bathing regime of about 18 ° C. There is practically no rain in May, only occasional light precipitation falls. The influx of tourists begins, the doors of water parks and amusement parks in the resorts open. nine0003

The weather on the Costa del Sol opens the beach season in May, but the peak of resort attendance comes from June to September. The thermometer in June rises above 27 ° C, cloudless skies and gentle sun provide an unsurpassed tan for vacationers. Water is about +20 °С. As the sun sets, the air becomes especially fresh. The short-term precipitation in May accounts for only 5 days of the month. During evening walks along the picturesque embankments, it is recommended to grab a light sweater. nine0003

July and August on the Costa del Sol are considered to be the warmest of the year. Despite the hot weather, dryness on the coast is not felt due to high humidity. The air temperature ranges from 26°С to 32°С. On days of debilitating heat, when it is already over 40 ° C in many of the most ancient cities of Andalusia, the coast is much fresher, thanks to the Mediterranean breeze. The maximum warming of water on the Costa del Sol, up to 23 ° C, occurs in August. This month, the evening water temperature equalizes with the air temperature. Even at the end of August, the weather does not portend the onset of autumn. nine0003

With the onset of autumn, the flow of tourists does not decrease, the velvet season on the Costa del Sol lasts until mid-November and is considered the longest in Spain. The sun is not so hot anymore, the weather is most favorable for safe sunbathing and daytime activities at sea. Despite a slight decrease in the temperature regime, the water on the Costa del Sol is kept at the same levels of more than 20 ° C. Pleasantly pleased with the prices for accommodation, which are several times lower than in summer. The average air temperature in September is about 23°C, in October it drops to 22°C. In November, it often rains a little. Fans of night walks are advised to stock up on warm clothes. nine0003

You can explore the rich history, unique historical heritage and the largest entertainment centers of the Costa del Sol at any time of the year. The most suitable weather for organizing individual and group excursions in Andalusia is when there is no scorching heat or heavy rains. To visit the ancient cities of Andalusia, it is recommended to choose the winter months. It is at this time that the cities are very calm, there is no summer heat, fuss and long lines, and the weather is conducive to spending time outdoors. nine0003

Families who come to Spain on vacation with children visit the entertainment centers of the Costa del Sol. The best time for such walks is the end of May, the beginning of June or September. Children will not get tired of the intense heat, the weather pleases with bright sun. During these periods, all centers on the Costa del Sol have already opened after the winter holidays. The largest selection of attractions and children’s parks is presented in Benalmadena. The whole family can go to the Selvo Marina dolphinarium, the Sea Life marine aquarium. Young tourists will also appreciate the numerous attractions of the Tivoli World amusement park and the scenic views of the cable car.

Hawaii has 6 major island to visits, although there are many more. The main six are Kauai, Oahu, Molokai, Lanai, Maui, and the Big Island of Hawaii.

They are unique in the their own way, although Hawaii, aka Big Island will always have my soft spot due to it being my honeymoon destination!

However, the vast ecosystem within the island is incredible. The diverse terrain includes coloured-sand beaches white, green and black, rainforest and tundra meaning you can have completely different weather on one side of the island to the other.

The flora and fauna is very special with turtles coming up to the beach to next and more. Whilst it is a distance to travel from the UK and some parts of the USA, the 24 degrees average temperature in October is very appealing! To check out the latest deals on Hawaii on Expedia see here.

Jamaica

Or how about tropical Jamaica? Autumn is both the best time and the worst time to visit Jamaica. The temperatures still range between the low 70s and mid 80s, but the rain can be very heavy. Toward the end of October and November means you miss the high crowds though.

Weather in balearics in october: Balearic Islands Weather in October

What is the best time of year to visit the Balearic Islands?

When asking “what is the best time of the year to visit the Balearic Islands?”, it´s impossible get only one right answer. The Balearic archipelago is a wonderful destination all throughout the 12 months as the climate, purely Mediterranean, is temperate and the sun shines more than 110 days a year.

The weather in the Balearic Islands is one of the most pleasant we can find in Spain since it is not very cold in winter nor too hot in summer.

Taking as reference the island of Mallorca, the average maximum temperature is 22 degrees and the minimum of 14. As for the rainfall, these are scarce since it only rains, on average, about 53 days a year. This allows the islands to offer more than 2,779 hours of sun along the year.

Nonetheless, depending on the purpose of your trip, a recommendation for one season or the other could be made. For example, if what you want is to sunbathe and enjoy the coves, you should travel during summer.

To help you find the ideal time for your trip to the Balearic Islands we have analyzed the climate of different times of the year and, based on it, suggested some of the activities that you can carry out with that weather.

Spring – summer

It’s sunny, the temperatures rise and it rains a lot less. It is the ideal time to go to the beach, to do kayak routes, to dive, to sail and … in general, to be outdoors, to enjoy the nature and the landscape of the islands.

The good weather begins in May, when the average temperature is already around 18 degrees. These reach their highest peak in the month of August, with an average of 26 degrees, but the rest of the summer months remain more or less the same. In September it drops to 23 and in October the average is still in the low 20s, so the summer in the Balearic Islands is a little longer.

In fact, the months of June and September are considered the best ones to visit the Balearic Islands, as good weather remains but there are far fewer people than in July or August. The coves will be less crowded and you will be able to enjoy the landscape almost in solitude.

Regarding the rain, you won’t have to worry. On average, in May it rains four days a month and in July this is reduced to only one. In October the chances increase, but the average is still only seven days. In summary, you can leave your umbrella home.

Autumn – winter

The average temperature in this period descends but never under the 10 degrees. The coldest months are, by far, January and February with an average around 8 degrees. These are also the months when it rains more and there are more cloudy days.

In any case, this should not an obstacle to enjoy the Balearic Islands. On the contrary, this time is ideal to practice many of the activities offered by the islands. For example: visiting small villages, workshops of local artisans, museums, hiking, cycling and even see the snow on top of the Sierra de Tramuntana in Mallorca.

In the Balearic Islands you will find the ideal destination for your holidays, regardless of the time of year in which you visit them.

Weather in Palma de Mallorca

Palma is a great place to visit all year round thanks to its geographical location in the Balearics, which promises milder weather than continental Spain. Mallorca is extremely popular in the summer months of June, July and August. This is when temperatures peak and sea conditions are at their best for swimming. However, beaches around the island can get packed with tourists. To avoid the crowds, visit in spring (March to May) and autumn (October to November) when the city is relatively quiet and temperatures are pleasant.

Can I drink the tap water in Mallorca and Menorca?

Can I drink the tap water in Mallorca? Where does it come from? Why does it taste so bad? What are the issues with Mallorca tap water? What’s the best water filter for Mallorca?

In this article we will attempt to answer all your questions about tap water in Mallorca. If you just want to short answer then jump straight to the conclusion at the end.

Where does tap water in Mallorca come from?

The climate of Majorca (or Mallorca) is Mediterranean, with mild winters with some rain and dry sunny summers. The sunny climate has its pros and cons with one negative aspect being that there is water shortage every summer / early fall. Currently, 55% of Palma’s water is underground, 20% comes from reservoirs, 18% from water recycling and 7% from desalinated water (the Abaqua’s facilities). Recent investments will increase the contribution from recycled and collected rain water to 25% annually. This will hopefully reduce the need for desalinated water and the extraction of water from wells.

The underground water coms from a series of aquifers with super porous limestone, so it picks up a ton of minerals. This makes the water relatively hard. The 2 biggest reservoirs on the other hand are rainfed which is relatively soft. They are located in the western mountain range, (the Cuber and the Gorg Blau).

When the aquifers and the reservoirs get low they switch on the desalination plants to augment their supplies. There are at least three desalination plants on the island, one each in Palma, Andratx, and Alcudia. They are most active in August and September due to the dry summer and the crush of tourists. Desalinated water still tastes a bit salty even though the levels are very low. Maybe the tolerance level for how much salt that can be allowed in public drinking water when there is a major shortage?

Palma will launch a new water treatment plant in 2022 to improve the recycling of waste water and taste.

How is Mallorca tap water regulated?

Tap water in Mallorca is regulated by the Spanish water authority that also has to conform to the EU Clean Drinking Water Act. The agency that looks after the tap water locally is ABAQUA. To reduce the risk of pathogens, the sanitary surveillance of water for human consumption in the Balearic Islands requires a minimum value of 0. 2 mg / l free chlorine. To achieve this the actual free chlorine content is usually above 0.5 mg/L and sometimes as high as 1 mg/L. Tap water tastes of chlorine when it’s above 0.4 mg/L.

The local authorities also report all water quality data to SINAC which is the centrally database in Spain that monitors tap water safety.

Is Mallorca tap water safe to drink?

If you ask the locals and residents if you can drink the tap water you will probably get answers such as:

  • “You’re crazy, it’s terrible!”
  • “It tastes bad and you are going to get kidney stones.”
  • or more elaborate “Do not even think about it! My grandfather / my father / my neighbor’s uncle (choose the one that suits you) came out as a poor man selling stone from his kidneys to the crazy builders of the Mallorca highway.”

Many people will look at you with disgust if you offer them tap water to drink in Palma.

But the true answer is that the tap water in Palma and most of Mallorca is safe to drink according to EU and Spanish standards.

The negative perception of tap water stems from three issues

  1. Water calcification / limescale – people are convinced that the calcium rich water causes kidney stones. This is an urban legend / myth as there is no scientific evidence that this is the case.
  2. Spanish tummy – Back in the 70s and 80s the tap water in Spain was not super reliable. Tourists in Spain frequently got “Spanish Tummy”, or travelers diarrhea, and people knew to avoid drinking tap water. This is no longer an issue as the water is treated and chlorinated.
  3. Taste – the mineral rich tap water sources combined with chlorine and desalination makes the water taste pretty bad. Especially if you are used to tap water in northern Europe or Madrid.

Today only 34% of the citizens of Palma (1 in 3) consume tap water on a regular basis. This includes directly from the tap or through faucet filters, jugs or osmosis systems.

Tap water in Palma de Mallorca

Yes, The water with which EMAYA supplies Palma de Mallorca and that reaches our houses has a total sanitary guarantee and can be used, without any problem, for drinking and cooking.

Due to the characteristics of the sources, the water that comes from the aquifers and other sources is usually hard highly mineralized water.

The hardness of water does not pose any health risk, quite the opposite: calcium and magnesium, which characterize the hardness of water, are essential for health. There are even several medical studies that indicate a protective role of calcium and magnesium against certain cardiovascular diseases.

Here’s the official site of EMAYA .

Tap water in Menorca

The tap water in Menorca that comes from the public water supply is generally safe to drink. If not the water supplier must inform the residents. Similar to Mallorca the taste and perception of the local tap water is very bad. Therefore almost everyone drinks bottled water.

Read more about the recent requirement for restaurants in Menorca to offer tap water. Almost all water is rain water of which there is not enough in Menorca so please don’t waste it.

Where you cannot drink the tap water in Mallorca

There are still several areas of Mallorca in which the water that circulates through the public network is not suitable for drinking or cooking with it due to a high presence of nitrates. In the towns of Lloret, Sineu, s’Horta, Vilafranca and Costitx, its use is only authorized for washing and washing and it cannot be used for drinking or cooking. Boiling it doesn’t help.

The high presence of nitrates in these municipalities is due to the abusive use of agricultural fertilizers with these nitrates in the past, an action that still carries these consequences.

Was the water filter jug invented in Mallorca?

Whether it’s true or not there is also a local legend among the Germans that Brita Pitcher was invented after the founder tried to drink tea with water from a Mallorcan tap in the 60s. According to most sources the majority of Palma’s inhabitants stopped drinking plain water in the 80s due to its ‘bad taste’ and probably because bottled water became cheap and accessible everywhere.

Best water filter for Mallorca

Although you can drink the tap water in Palma and most of Mallorca a water filter may be a great investment.

The benefits include saving money, convenience of always having access to clean tasty tap water, it’s healthier than bottled water, reduces limescale build up for your coffee maker or tea kettle and it’s better for the planet.

The best water filter for Mallorca in our biased view is TAPP 2. The advantages vs other filters are

  • Super easy to install working on 95% of faucets out of the box and the rest through our free adapter service
  • High flowrate (4l/min) for instant clean tasty tap water from the tap
  • Eco friendly using 70% disposable plastic and 50% less CO2 footprint can any other water filter
  • Reduces limescale by 80% or more

See more of the advantages in this Brita water filter comparison article.

You can buy TAPP filters on our website, from our local partner Ecoaigo or local stores.

Water fountains in Mallorca

Cleanwave is one of the great organisations in Mallorca promoting non-bottled water. Among other things they’ve helped to install water fountains with filtered water around Mallorca. Here’s one example.

Bottled water in Mallorca

The Balearic Islands is the second autonomous community that consumes the most bottled water in Spain, being the first position for the Canary Islands. This according to the data presented in the 2018 food consumption report of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food.

It is estimated that each Balearic Islands consumes 175 liters of bottled water per year, about 117 1.5-liter bottles, which represent an expense of 80 euros per year per person and the generation of 5 kilos of plastic. For the whole of Palma, there are about 2,000 tons of waste per year.

Palma has also recently installed more water fountains that include filters to remove the chlorine. There are two models, the normal ones and the ones that also have a spout so that the dogs can drink. Its purpose is that passersby can refill their reusable bottles.

Tap water in restaurants

You can safely drink tap water in restaurants in Mallorca although the taste might not be great. A recent law requires all restaurants in Mallorca to serve tap water to those who ask. But as it doesn’t require the restaurants to filter the water or to promote it this law is unlikely to have much impact.

MOSCOW, October 6 – RIA Novosti. With the onset of cold weather, more and more people want to return to warmth. It is not always necessary to cross half the world for this. About islands with relatively high water and air temperatures, where it takes less than five hours to fly – in the material of RIA Novosti.

Sardinia, Italy

Flight time: 3.5 hours.

Average air temperature in October: 22 degrees.

Why fly: to admire the natural beauties.

Most of this Mediterranean island is covered by natural and archaeological reserves, so tourists have something to do even after the beach season closes. For example, walking along the south coast in palm and pine groves.

Must do: rent a boat and find the most beautiful among the hidden bays.

Cyprus, Republic of Cyprus

CC0 / adibalea / Port of Kyrenia, Cyprus

CC0 / adibalea /

Flight time: 3.5 hours.

Average air temperature in October: 25 degrees.

Why fly: to practice water sports.

The water temperature in October here rarely drops below 23 degrees, which is quite acceptable for fans of windsurfing and diving. They choose Cyprus for excellent weather conditions and a relatively quiet holiday – without noisy discos and drunken parties.

Must do: go on a picnic in the Troodos mountains and visit the traditional Cypriot village of Omodos.

Capri, Italy

Flight time: 3 hours to Naples, then another hour by ferry.

Average air temperature in October: 22 degrees.

Why fly: learn all about old-fashioned glamour.

It’s worth coming to this island if only to feel the atmosphere of bohemian chic that reigns here thanks to the abundance of fashionable celebrity villas and expensive restaurants. And of course, admire the nature that inspired Bunin, Merezhkovsky, Mayakovsky, Aivazovsky and other creators.

Must do: rent a boat to see the Aragonese castle located on a small island.

Hvar, Croatia

Flight time: 3 hours to Split, then an hour and a half by ferry.

Average air temperature in October: 22 degrees.

Why fly: pleasant walks and shopping.

October is the best time to visit this Adriatic island, where the sun shines for at least 270 days a year. The mild climate makes it especially bright and easy to walk through small medieval towns and secluded bays.

Must-do: take a boat ride to the picturesque Paklinsky Islands.

Sicily, Italy

CC0 / nicolagiordano / Sicily

CC0 / nicolagiordano /

Flight time: 4 hours.

Average air temperature in October: 22 degrees.

Why fly: to feel the special Italian spirit.

This administrative region of Italy has a rich history: at different times it was in the hands of the Hellenes, Byzantines, Arabs – everyone was attracted by the favorable location of the island relative to trade routes. The climate in Sicily is favorable for off-season recreation: air and water temperatures are relatively high, and almost all autumn days are sunny.

Must do: climb one of the highest active volcanoes in Europe — Etna.

Malta

CC0 / kirkandmimi / Port of Valletta, Malta

CC0 / kirkandmimi /

Flight time: 4 hours 10 minutes.

Average air temperature in October: 25 degrees.

Why fly: rich excursion program.

The island, which was visited by the mythical Odysseus and the real Napoleon, attracts thousands of history buffs. Many people choose October to get acquainted with the sights because of the cool weather and the relatively small number of tourists. Usually the tour starts in the capital – Valletta: travelers visit the Cathedral of St. John, where the masterpiece of Caravaggio “The Beheading of John the Baptist” is located, and the Palace of the Grand Master, built in the 16th century.

Must-do: go on a sightseeing tour of the island.

Ibiza, Spain

© Depositphotos. com / amoklv

Average air temperature in October: 23 degrees.

Why fly: is a great vacation with friends.

The main thing that attracts this island is the capital of the same name and the city of San Antonio, where fun parties are constantly held, which are especially popular with English youth. With the onset of autumn, the degree of fun decreases slightly, as does the number of vacationers. But finding a party for yourself and friends is just as easy as finding a cheerful company of Germans, French or Spaniards.

Must-do: swim on the famous beach of Cala Vadella, surrounded by pine forests.

Mallorca, Spain

CC0 / Lgon / Mallorca

CC0 / Lgon /

Flight time: 4 hours 45 minutes.

Average air temperature in October: 24 degrees.

Why fly: for democratic rest.

During the off-season, the number of tourists thins out on the largest of the islands of the Balearic archipelago, which provides an opportunity for lovers of natural beauties and water sports – diving and windsurfing – to relax in peace. Prices at the end of the beach season are reduced, and the farther from the coast, the more.

Must-do: Walk around the old town in Palma.

Gozo, Malta

CC0 / waldomiguez / Gozo Island

CC0 / waldomiguez /

Flight time: 4 hours 10 minutes, then 25 minutes by ferry.

Average air temperature in October: 25 degrees.

Why fly: for a leisurely vacation.

According to legend, it was on this, the second largest island of the Maltese archipelago, that the nymph Calypso held Odysseus for seven years in captivity (a cave in the north of the island, a radio station, ketchup and many other things are named after her). There are few vacationers here, and even local residents in cities that look more like villages, just over thirty thousand.

Must do: take a boat trip to Comino Island, which has one hotel and only three locals.

Corsica, France

Flight time: 5 hours.

Average air temperature in October: 21 degrees Celsius.

Why fly: for a secluded vacation.

On the “island of beauty”, as Corsica is often called, there are many picturesque bays, clean beaches, and there are still very few tourists from Russia. One of the most difficult hiking trails of the famous GR 20 network passes through the local mountains, which are especially beautiful in autumn.

Must do: ride a horse from the village of Tizzano to a wild beach in the small bay of Roccapin.

Velvet season on the island of Crete Jacques-Yves Cousteau, attracted by the disproportionately large depth of Voulismeni – 64 meters – compared to the size (diameter – 137 meters), was engaged in the study of an almost perfectly round reservoir. Canary Islands Holidays

Tenerife is the largest of the Canary Islands and is a firm favourite with Brits as it’s possible to spend a week or two in the sun completely relaxing on a beach, but also to have a more active break playing golf, diving, hiking in Teide National Park or riding the waves on a surf board. And while families will love the attractions on offer such as the “water kingdom” Siam Park, those after wild nights out will enjoy the lively nightlife in resorts such as Playa de las Americas.

The island is served by two airports Tenerife South Airport (TFS) and Tenerife North Airport (TFN) with the majority of tourists landing in the south and heading to resorts such as Playa de las Americas, Los Cristianos and the quieter Costa Adeje. Puerto de la Cruz in the north of the island is another firm favourite with British holidaymakers and the nearby Loro Parque wildlife park with parrots, sea lions and penguins is a big hit with all of the family.

The second largest of the Canary Islands, Fuerteventura, is still relatively unspoilt and whether you want to take the kids to a waterpark, to flop on a secluded spot of beach and completely relax, or to embrace the elements and windsurf, you’ll find the perfect break for you.

Corralejo on the north coast is a popular spot for British holidaymakers with miles and miles of unspoilt beaches and dunes, a range of nightlife options from romantic meals overlooking the sea to fun-filled nights out in bars and clubs, and activities for all of the family. Other popular resorts include Caleta de Fuste which is a hit with families due to its sheltered beach and calm waters, and Costa Calma on the Jandia Peninsular, a good spot for watersport enthusiasts with miles of golden sand. To make the most of any trip to the island, hire a car to explore the volcanic landscape inland.

North of Fuerteventura and the closest of the islands to Africa, Lanzarote offers art and architecture, sunshine galore, a lunar-like landscape and activities for those who want to work up a sweat including mountain biking and surfing.

Discover the Canary Islands’s most popular destinations

British tourists head to resorts such as Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca, Costa Teguise and Haria where accommodation is on offer for a range of budgets and tastes from all-inclusive five-star resorts and eco lodgings to budget apartments.

Lanzarote is relatively small and a hiring a car will allow you to drive from one end of the island to the other easily. Be sure to visit Timanfaya National Park with moon-like landscape, steaming geysers and Timanfaya Volcano; the Fundación César Manrique, the past home of the island’s famous artist and architect; and Los Jameos del Aguas, a huge collapsed lava tube with an underground lake and a stunning blue pool that is used as a concert venue.

South east of Lanzarote, Gran Canaria’s golden sands and bright sunshine attract holidaymakers every year, and the island’s natural beauty with huge stretches of dunes and pine forests make them fall in love with the destination.

The largest resort on the island, Playa del Ingles, is on the south coast and offers fun-filled holidays for visitors who enjoy strolling down its promenade and drinking in the bars and clubs. Other popular resorts include Playa del Ingles’ quieter neighbour, San Augustin; sophisticated Maspalomas with its world-famous sand dunes; pretty and exclusive Puerto Mogan; and stylish Meloneras.

The other three islands that complete the Canaries – La Palma, El Hierro and La Gomera – offer serene holidays away from the crowds as they are still relatively undiscovered and unspoilt. Only La Palma is served by direct flights from the UK into Santa Cruz de La Palma airport (SPM) while you can reach all three islands via flight or ferry from Tenerife.

La Palma has celebrity connections – Madonna’s song La Isla Bonita is rumoured to have been about the island and Manolo Blahnik was born there – but don’t expect glitzy attractions when you arrive. Instead, visit the island for relaxing breaks taking in the beautiful scenery from rainforests to waterfalls and, if you are feeling active, long hikes in the mountains.

El Hierro is the smallest of the Canary Islands and its western end was once considered the end of the world. Visit to truly get away from it all. La Gomera is slightly bigger and the perfect destination if you like exploring the great outdoors on foot or by bike. Alternatively, pack your beach bag and surf board and head to the black sands along the coast to sunbathe without having to fight for a spot.

Whichever Canary Island takes your fancy and whether you are looking for an all-inclusive getaway or a self-catering bargain, find the best prices by using TravelSupermarket’s search tool.

Autumn holidays. 7 ideas for holidays at sea

There are almost two months between the first of September and the autumn holidays. This is a very long time, schoolchildren think, dreaming of forgetting about the lessons again for at least a week. There is so little time left, their parents think, looking for an option for a vacation with a child in October. And the colder and more cloudy it gets outside the window, the more you think about the warm sea. In our review, we will talk about countries where you can relax with children, where the autumn sun is especially gentle and there is an opportunity to swim even at the end of October.

Of course, the number of countries that attract tourists in autumn is much larger, but we did not include in the review those that take a long time to get to: Thailand, Vietnam, Singapore, India, etc.

Turkey in the autumn

This country in October already embraces the bliss of autumn coolness. Only the southern coast of Turkey (Antalya, Alanya, Belek, Kemer, Marmaris, Side) indulges tourists in hot summer days. Air temperature +26-28°, water +24-25° – a gift for those who like to bask in the sun and splash in the sea. But in the evening you need to stock up on warm clothes – the night temperature drops to + 13-15 °.

At the end of October – beginning of November, rains come to Turkey, and in order not to depend on the weather, it is worth choosing a hotel with an indoor pool. It would also be useful to have a children’s club or a playroom in the Turkish hotels you are considering. But if fine days are established, you can go on excursions with children – for example, in the Miniature Park or the Aquarium in Antalya, in the Damlatash cave near Alanya or in the Köprülü canyon. But water parks in Turkey close in mid-October.

United Arab Emirates

The end of October in the UAE is finally past the peak of the heat, incomparably warm sea and stable sunny weather. It is still quite hot during the day, + 33-35°, but in the evening it becomes cooler, + 21-23°. Resorts on the coast of the Persian Gulf (Abu Dhabi, Sharjah) beckon with a warm sea, the water temperature here is kept at around +27 °. But in the Gulf of Oman, the water is colder, + 24 °, but there is no significant difference between day and night air temperatures – the nights in Fujairah, for example, are very warm.

After enjoying your time on the beach, take the kids on a tour: Dubai has water parks, an aquarium and an oceanarium, educational and entertainment complexes and many other entertainments. If shopping is one of the purposes of the trip to the UAE, try to choose a hotel where your children will be supervised while you are shopping.

Canary Islands (Spain)

This paradise is not included in the budget options, but it generously gives warmth at a time when cold rains are pouring here. The southern coast of the islands of Tenerife, La Palma and Gran Canaria is + 26 ° during the day and + 24 ° at night, the water temperature in the sea does not fall below + 24 °, the opportunity to spend the whole day on the beach and complete immersion in summer.

Restless children will also like it very much: just invite them to climb the Teide volcano or sail on a yacht into the ocean. You can learn about the history of the famous pyramids at the Pyramid de Guimar Museum. Great entertainment also awaits children in water parks, dolphinariums, Monkey Park or Butterfly Park.

  • Holidays with children in Tenerife: author’s review

Israel

Israel’s Red Sea coast (Eilat) is the place where summer lingers for a long time. At the end of October, the daytime air temperature here reaches +33°, and water +24°. The evenings are much cooler, the mercury column drops to +21°. During the autumn holidays, there may be several rainy days – October brings rain to the country. But the cool weather does not prevent traveling around Israel, and in this country there is something to show the children. An excursion to the Biblical Zoo (Jerusalem), the Safari Zoo (Ramat Gan) and the crocodile farm (Hamat Gader) will be remembered for a long time.

A good way to see all the sights of the country is to visit the Mini Israel Park. Boys will appreciate the Museum of Science and Technology, and girls – the Puppet Museum (Haifa). Holon is home to the famous Children’s Museum.

Jordan

The neighboring country of Israel is still considered an exotic place for tourists, although it is comfortable to relax here with children all year round. Jordanian resorts on the Red and Dead Seas delight those who run from the cold autumn to warmer climes. For example, in the resort of Aqaba, the daytime temperature is kept at + 33 °, at night + 22 °, and the water temperature does not fall below + 27 °.

You might want to come here not even for swimming, but for the opportunity to breathe the healing sea air with your children. The hotel infrastructure is at a decent level, it is not difficult to find a hotel with a playground and a green area. The excursion program will especially delight connoisseurs of ancient history.

Greece

The end of October on the islands of Greece is still autumn rather than summer. Moderate daytime heat (+25-28°), still pleasant water (+22-24°) and cool evenings are more suitable for families with teenagers. The weather at this time is changeable, there may be rains and a cool wind, so jackets must be on the list of things, and excursions on the holiday program. Fortunately, the island resorts are full of children’s entertainment. For example, Crete is famous not only for its wonderfully preserved ancient buildings, but also for its bird zoo, and the island of Rhodes invites you to an aquarium. Water parks in Greece are no longer open at this time, but the swimming pool in the hotel is also suitable for bathing children.

Colourful, welcoming and upbeat, Holiday Polynesia is a newly built, Polynesian-themed 4 star hotel located just outside Benalmadena.  The hotel welcomes families and is split into different sections by an impressive wooden suspended bridge.

The La Hacienda Apartments offer self catering accommodation in a traditionally Spanish style along with numerous convenient amenities. All communal areas are clean and smartly decorated to create a cosy and welcoming environment.

The food here is exquisite and the prices match the restaurant’s quality and reputation. This is a formal restaurant that is not especially suitable for young children.

Perhaps the most unconventional grill eatery in Benalmadena is the Tex Mex Bobby Peru. Boasting a unique Texan / Peruvian / Spanish menu and lots of unusual dishes, this is a great restaurant to dig into some seriously delicious steaks and moreish ribs. The music is Latin and Spanish, so sets the mood in suitable fashion.

Casino Torrequebrada is the largest casino on Costa del Sol and one of the top gambling destinations in southern Spain.
