Costa Del Sol Beach for October
El Cristo Beach in Estepona gets incredible busy during the peak summer months, making October a great time to go. The wind regularly blows in over this region from the east, but thanks to the natural rounded shape of the bay, this cove is always protected from breezy conditions. This beach was awarded with Blue Flag certification in 2015, which is testament to its cleanliness and the high quality of its facilities that include sun loungers, parasols, toilets, showers, water sports and life guard service. The dark sandy beach gently slopes into the calm waters, although there are some steep shelves out if you venture into the deep so watch out. The harbour on one side of the bay acts as a wave breaker and ensures the sea is almost always completely still. There are a couple of bars directly on the beach which serve icy drinks and basic snacks. The prices are a little steep, but that’s what you expect for a place like this.
Playa de Los Alamos is the quietest beach in Torremolinos, although it can get absolutely packed in July and August which, again, makes October the perfect time to go. This beach is made up of fine golden sand and offers all the basic beach amenities, such as sun loungers, parasols, toilets and showers. Although the sea is usually calm, some visitors have reported seeing jellyfish here, so keep an eye out before you go swimming. This long beach is backed by a beautiful promenade which features benches, palm trees, cafes, bars and restaurants, making it a great place for a leisurely walk.
Bars and Restaurants
Zena in Fuengirola is an Italian restaurant which doesn’t settle for just simple pizza and pasta dishes you can order anywhere. This eatery prides itself on superb service and top quality contemporary Italian dishes, such as mushroom risotto, grilled veal, garlic chilli prawn pasta and peppercorn steaks, alongside homemade desserts like coffee ice cream and panna cotta. Diners can choose between the offerings of the a la carte menu, or opt for the value-for-money set menu.
For something more typically Spanish, make a reservation at La Fuente. Located in the historical centre of Benalmadena, this Spanish restaurant is set inside an old rustic house and offers a seasonal menu which regularly changes according to which local produce is at its best at the time. In addition to the a la carte and set three-course menus, daily specials are also available. To complement the food, there is a superb wine menu with local and international red, white and rose wines, cavas, champagnes, beers and spirits.
Siempre Asi in Malaga is one of the best places to go in the city if you’re in the mood for a dance. This cool club offers low lighting and plenty of space to get your groove on. If you’re not up for a dance, the spacious environment, heated music and ambient lighting create a great atmosphere to mix with the locals and international visitors which regularly flock to the club. Latino is the music theme here, with rumba, salsa and rock music also frequently played.
Declared the coolest bar in Spain, Boal’s Ice Bar in Benalmadena is the very first ice bar to appear in the Costa del Sol. The sun may be blazing outside, but inside this bar, everything is made out of ice including the walls, the seats, the sculptures, the glasses and even the bar itself. Since the ice bar is -14⁰C, you can only stay in there for a short period of time, but not to worry. When you start shivering, you can head into the outside igloo bar or coolers disco to continue the fun and warm up.
Things to do in the Costa Del Sol in October
Awarded the title of Best Marina in the World on two occasions by the British magazine International Property, Benalmadena’s Marina is one of the liveliest places in the resort. Here you’ll find 40+ international restaurants, 20+ bars and nightclubs and around 25 shops selling everything from souvenirs and perfumes to electronics and clothes. If you’re travelling with kids, Playa Mini Golf España is a superb family-friendly activity. The premier Mexican restaurant in the Costa del Sol is located in Fuengirola, and is called El Paso (of course). Enjoy a lively atmosphere, friendly service and hearty well-priced portions. Salud!
The El Jardin restaurant in Malaga is set in a 19th century building and serves some of the finest Spanish food around especially the paella. The restaurant benefits from a prime location with a lovely view of a stunning garden and the cathedral. Good value and excellent service, too.
O’Neill’s Irish Pub in Malaga has Irish music playing on a regular basis, and more importantly, draught Guinness is served on tap. A friendly, lively pub O’Neill’s is popular with a mixed crowd but especially Brits missing a pint of the black stuff.
Buddy’s Bar provides a similar type of atmosphere in Benalmadena. The drinks prices are wallet friendly and the pictures and various memorabilia across the walls make an interesting conversation starter. A nice laid-back bar ideal for sinking a few bevvies and meeting up with holiday buddies.

The Casa Natal de Picasso museum as you’d expect – is all about the great Spanish artist Pablo Picasso. His life is celebrated throughout the museum, and is a must for art lovers. The exhibition covers two floors of all of his early sketches, plus sculptures and other priceless family memorabilia. It became the headquarters of the Pablo Ruiz Picasso Foundation back in 1991, and it was Malaga where Picasso began to paint.
Another top attraction and in support of a very worthy cause – is the Nerja Donkey Sanctuary in Nerja. It is free to get in and you’ll see various animals, not just donkeys and horses. Without the help of holidaymakers’ support the charity couldn’t run this sanctuary, so a small donation wouldn’t hurt in return for meeting sanctuary’s friendly animals. A great family day out, prepare to have your hearts well and truly warmed and pleading requests for a pet donkey!
