Early October often still feels like summer, with high temperatures hitting in the 90s, but by the end of the month, the average high drops into the upper 70s.
Similarly, low temperatures at the start of October often still hit in the 70s, but the month’s end average is in the mid-50s! The declining sunshine is a big reason for the cooling temperatures observed over the month.
At the start of October, Houston receives just under 12 hours of daylight, but by the end of the month, that daylight is down to just 11 hours.
As the fall fronts merge with humid Gulf air leftover from the summer, widespread rains are often the result.
So, what do we expect this October?
The prevailing weather pattern is expected to bring warmer and drier conditions than a typical October in Houston, increasing the chance that drought returns and intensifies as the month goes on. Regardless of what the weather brings, we predict there will be a lot of candy handed out by the end of the month!

The end of September is on the calendar, which means that it’s time to find out the forecast for the second autumn month. What will be the weather for October 2022 in St. Petersburg, Komsomolskaya Pravda was told by Natalya Mishulovina, Leading forecaster of the forecast department of the city Hydrometeorological Center. Spoiler: Indian summer is not planned.
– The average monthly temperature in October in St. Petersburg is 6.2 degrees Celsius. Further, after September, a decrease in air temperature, an increase in the number of rainy days – on average there are 17 of them per month, a decrease in the duration of daylight hours, – Natalya Yuryevna noted.
And it will start getting dark fast. If in September there were 135 hours of light per month, then in October there will be only 62.
As for the weather, there is nothing special to be happy about. There was no real Indian summer in September, and it will not be in October either. In the first half of the month, cyclones and anticyclones will alternate in St. Petersburg, bringing rain and clear weather, respectively. In this case, the average daytime temperature will be from +7 to +12 degrees, and at night – from +3 to +8.
But in the second half of October there will be more cyclones, rains will prevail. The thermometers will go down. During the day the air temperature will be +4…+9 degrees, and at night frosts down to -2 are already possible.
At the same time, the average temperature for the month is likely to slightly exceed the climatic norm, and the amount of precipitation will be close to it. In other words, no terrible rainstorms, no extreme temperature changes with heat, as in 1889 (+21 degrees on October 3) or frosts (-12. 9 degrees at 1920th), the forecast does not promise.

The great variety of water sports is what attracts most visitors to this beach, where you can practise water skiing, kayaking, sailing and banana boat riding. If you’d rather stay on shore, you can hire a sun lounger, deckchair or soft mat and parasol and enjoy a doze. This beach is very easily accessible by all modes of transport and offers lifeguard service between 11am and 5.30pm.
Lara Bay
Declared by the Telegraph as one of the best beaches in Cyprus, Lara Bay is a remote sandy beach where loggerhead and green turtles go to nest. Monk seals can also frequently found in the hidden caves and because of this, you won’t find any facilities onsite, so make sure you take everything you need for the whole day with you. There are metal fences blocking off the turtles’ nests, so keep an eye out for them and stay away.
But if you look carefully, you might just be able to spot the tracks where the turtles hauled themselves out of the sea to lay their eggs. Although there are no sun loungers or parasols on this beach, you can lie down your towel on the soft golden sands and swim in the clean, blue waters which are usually very calm.

Aphrodite’s Rock
Aphrodite’s Rock is one of the most popular attractions in Cyprus and it can get incredibly busy during the peak summer season this makes October one of the best months to go. The area around this natural landmark is where the mythical Aphrodite was said to have risen out of the waves before being escorted to the rock itself on a large sea shell.
Although the aquamarine waters might tempt you in, the sea in this area is usually very rough, making swimming dangerous so best to stay on the shore. Climbing Aphrodite’s Rock isn’t permitted either, so you’ll have to stick to taking photos of the rock and its surroundings. After you’ve admired the view, you can retire to the surrounding pebble beach to soak up the sun or head to the nearby restaurant which serves typical Greek cuisine.
MountainBike Cyprus
For something more exciting, hire a bike and sign up for an excursion with Mountain Bike Cyprus. This excursion organisation group arranges mountain biking and road tours within the Akamas and Troodos regions of Cyprus, as well as complete cycling holidays, quality bike rentals and skill courses. Inexperienced cyclists can sign up for beginner tours which cover easy, gentle tracks and include a swim in the sea, before ending with drinks in a typical tavern.
The intermediate and advanced trails take you through every type of terrain Cyprus has to offer from pine forests and coastal trails to archaeological sites and open tracks with superb panoramic views. Most of the trails are twin ones, so you can ride side-by-side, although there are some solo tracks of 25-50km thrown in there, too.

October 2021 was a warm and wet month for the UK, with a typically autumnal mix of weather types with warm spells, frequent showers and some persistent heavy rain. That is according to provisional figures released by the Met Office.
UK mean temperatures have been 1.4°C above the long-term average for October, standing at 10.9°C. It’s a similar warm theme across the regions of the UK, with England’s October mean temperature at 11.8°C (1.4°C above average), Wales at 11.4°C (1.6°C above average), Scotland at 9.2°C (1.3°C above average) and Northern Ireland at 11.0°C (1.6°C above average).
As you’d expect, average maximum temperatures were also more than 1°C above the long-term averages, with the most noteworthy being seen in Northern Ireland, with their average maximum temperature for the month at 14.2°C making it its joint-eighth warmest on record with figures going back to 1884. The warmest October for Northern Ireland by maximum temperature was in 1969, when the average maximum temperature was 15. 1°C.
October 2021 mean temperature versus the long term average
It was also a wet month for many, although not enough to threaten any national records. An average of 162.7mm of rain fell across the UK, which represents 28% more than the average for October. This figure was spurred on by some persistent heavy rain over a number of days in the latter half of the month, with some noteworthy consecutive-day rainfall totals in Cumbria in particular.
Honister Pass in Cumbria saw more than 80% of its monthly rainfall over the 48-hour period from 26-27 October, as 343mm fell in the period, with the long-term average for the station in the month as a whole standing at 417.6mm. Although that’s one station in isolation, 14 other stations in Cumbria also recorded more than half of their average total October rainfall across the same period. Rain persisted through the following days resulting in very notable rainfall accumulations across the region and some significant flood related impacts. For comparison, the highest 2-day accumulation on record was 405mm which fell over 4-5 December 2015 at Thirlmere in Cumbria.
The above average rainfall was replicated across much of the UK, with England seeing a total of 124.6mm (36% more than average), Wales 209mm (23% more than average), Scotland 219.3mm (25% more than average) and Northern Ireland 126.5mm (6% more than average). However, these figures don’t threaten any records, with the record average rainfall in October for the UK standing at 226.1mm in 1903.
Heavy rain and high winds at the end of the month contributed to some disrupted travel conditions in the UK as people headed north to COP26 in Glasgow.

Dr Mark McCarthy of the National Climate Information Centre said, “Warm and wet was the main theme through October 2021. However, this October has really demonstrated the variability of an October in the UK, with some good dry spells for many in the middle of the month, before some heavier rain later in the month.
“The warm conditions have resulted in relatively few ground frosts compared to the average for the month. You’d normally expect six or seven days of ground frost in the UK, but most areas are below the average.”

Sunshine hours were also subdued across the UK, especially in Scotland, where they had 26% fewer sunshine hours than the long-term average, with 55.4 hours of sunshine. The average figure for Scotland for October is 75.1 hours. The UK had 13% fewer sunshine hours than the long-term average for the month, with 80.2 hours. The average figure for the UK in October is 92.3 hours.

Weather: London could reach 22C on Thursday during warm end to October

emperatures in London are expected to reach as high as 22C on Thursday, as the capital experiences its warmest end to an October in eight years.
The mercury hit a warm 20.5C in St James’ Park in London on Wednesday, but the Met Office says temperatures could increase to 21C or 22C on Thursday, before remaining balmy throughout the weekend.
Alex Burkill, senior meteorologist at the Met Office, said: “It’s likely to be the warmest spell we’ve had at the end of October since 2014, when we had the warmest Halloween on record.
“There appears to be a warming trend in our Octobers over the recent years, with many of them bringing milder than average spells.”
In London, the average minimum temperature at the end of October is around 7C while the average maximum temperature is around 13C.
This week, some parts of the capital will be eight or nine degrees above that.
Mr Burkill said: “Temperatures could reach 21C, possibly 22C [on Thursday]. That is significantly above average for the time of year. Overnight temperatures are really high as well.
“Probably Thursday will be the warmest day, but I still expect high teens or even low 20s through Friday and into the weekend.
“That’s not to say it will be dry the whole time. There’s a chance of some rain on Thursday, perhaps a heavy shower in the afternoon, but largely dry.
“Then perhaps a little bit of rain in the early hours of Friday, otherwise largely dry, then at the weekend some rain is likely very early on Saturday but otherwise mostly dry, and Sunday could bring some spots of rain.
“All the way throughout, the wind is not going to be light. It’s going to be breezy or blustery at times [so] it may not feel all that warm all the time.”
While Halloween remains some way off, the Met Office is confident October 31 will bring breezy and warmer than average weather. It is currently looking largely dry, though that could still change.

Tenerife Weather 11 to 16 October It turned out to be a lot sunnier than predicted with mostly warm sunny days throughout the week. There was the occasional shower in parts as predicted but they didn’t come to much at all at the coast. One of the things people tend to forget about forecasts for different parts of Tenerife is that nearly every municipality stretches from the coast to the spine of the island and most weather stations are located in the hills, so whilst it might be sunny and dry in coastal areas, things might be considerably different at 600m above sea level.
Weather Forecast for Tenerife 17 to 23 October The outlook for the next week is for sunshine on all coasts every day but some parts will see more cloudy spells than others with the north, east and west looking just a little bit sunnier than the south. Sunday looks as though it could be a grey day with rain just about everywhere. The start of the week should be very warm with temperatures dropping a degree a day as the week progresses.
Weather in South Tenerife – Apart from a very sunny Tuesday, the rest of the week could see a mix of sun and cloud inn the south with Sunday looking quite grey and gloomy. There’s a 5 to 45% possibility of showers through out the week with Sunday looking most likely for rain (75%). The week starts very hot with predicted temperatures of 31C on Monday after which it should drop a degree day by day ending the week around 25C on Sunday.
Weather in North Tenerife – In the north there should be plenty of sunshine between Monday and Thursday, with only some light cloud. From Thursday onwards there could be some cloudy spells with the weekend looking like there could be more cloud than sun. Like the south, Sunday looks particularly grey. There’s a 45% chance of rain on Friday, rising to an 80% possibility on Saturday and a dead cert on Sunday. Temperatures start the week at 27C and then drop a degree each day all the way through to Sunday.
Weather in East Tenerife – The pattern for the east mirrors the rest of the island although Santa Cruz looks like it could enjoy more sunshine than other parts with only Sunday looking as though there could be decent cloud. Although there’s a chance of showers on Saturday (35%) only Sunday really looks likely (85%). Temperatures start the week at 27C, drop to 24/25C between Tuesday and Thursday and then drop a bit more to 21/23C for the weekend.
Weather in South West Tenerife – The south west as usual partly mirrors the south except there should be more sun throughout the week and Sunday looks like it could be a bit brighter. There’s still a chance of rain during the week and the weekend looks most likely for some rain, 35% on Friday rising to 75% Sunday. Temperatures start the week at 29C and, like everywhere else, drop a degree each day all the way through to Sunday.
Weather in the Mount Teide Crater – It could be another mixed week in Teide National Park with some cloud and even showers possible on Monday, Wednesday and over the weekend. At other times there should be plenty of sunshine. On the summit of Mount Teide it should be pretty much the same pattern. Temperatures should hover between 11 and 15C in the crater and 2 and 4C on the peak of Mount Teide.
