We base the humidity comfort level on the dew point, as it determines whether perspiration will evaporate from the skin, thereby cooling the body. Lower dew points feel drier and higher dew points feel more humid. Unlike temperature, which typically varies significantly between night and day, dew point tends to change more slowly, so while the temperature may drop at night, a muggy day is typically followed by a muggy night.
The chance that a given day will be muggy in Iowa City is gradually decreasing during October, falling from 5% to 0% over the course of the month.
For reference, on July 21, the muggiest day of the year, there are muggy conditions 56% of the time, while on January 1, the least muggy day of the year, there are muggy conditions 0% of the time.

Temperature and Dew Point
There are 2 weather stations near enough to contribute to our estimation of the temperature and dew point in Iowa City.
For each station, the records are corrected for the elevation difference between that station and Iowa City according to the International Standard Atmosphere , and by the relative change present in the MERRA-2 satellite-era reanalysis between the two locations.
The estimated value at Iowa City is computed as the weighted average of the individual contributions from each station, with weights proportional to the inverse of the distance between Iowa City and a given station.
The stations contributing to this reconstruction are:
Iowa City Municipal Airport (KIOW, 96%, 2.1 mi, south, -13 ft elevation change)
The Eastern Iowa Airport (KCID, 3. 6%, 18 mi, northwest, 203 ft elevation change)
To get a sense of how much these sources agree with each other, you can view a comparison of Iowa City and the stations that contribute to our estimates of its temperature history and climate. Please note that each source’s contribution is adjusted for elevation and the relative change present in the MERRA-2 data.
Other Data
All data relating to the Sun’s position (e.g., sunrise and sunset) are computed using astronomical formulas from the book, Astronomical Algorithms 2nd Edition , by Jean Meeus.
All other weather data, including cloud cover, precipitation, wind speed and direction, and solar flux, come from NASA’s MERRA-2 Modern-Era Retrospective Analysis . This reanalysis combines a variety of wide-area measurements in a state-of-the-art global meteorological model to reconstruct the hourly history of weather throughout the world on a 50-kilometer grid.
Land Use data comes from the Global Land Cover SHARE database , published by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations.
Elevation data comes from the Shuttle Radar Topography Mission (SRTM) , published by NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory.
Names, locations, and time zones of places and some airports come from the GeoNames Geographical Database .

The information on this site is provided as is, without any assurances as to its accuracy or suitability for any purpose. Weather data is prone to errors, outages, and other defects. We assume no responsibility for any decisions made on the basis of the content presented on this site.
We draw particular cautious attention to our reliance on the MERRA-2 model-based reconstructions for a number of important data series. While having the tremendous advantages of temporal and spatial completeness, these reconstructions: (1) are based on computer models that may have model-based errors, (2) are coarsely sampled on a 50 km grid and are therefore unable to reconstruct the local variations of many microclimates, and (3) have particular difficulty with the weather in some coastal areas, especially small islands.
We further caution that our travel scores are only as good as the data that underpin them, that weather conditions at any given location and time are unpredictable and variable, and that the definition of the scores reflects a particular set of preferences that may not agree with those of any particular reader.

The weather in Chicago during the month of October is changeable with autumn now in full swing.
Temperatures are falling, but not yet at those colder winter levels so it is still a good time to visit the nation’s third most populous city.
Early in the month, the afternoon temperatures are still pleasant reaching into the upper 60s f (about 20C) with overnight and early morning lows dipping into the upper 40s f (about 9C).
A few days during the early part of this month may see temperatures in the 70s f (21-26C) or even into the lower 80s f (27-28C).
The temperatures will fall as the month progresses with afternoon temperatures dropping into the mid-50s f range (13-14C) and morning lows to near 40f (about 4C) by month’s end.
On about 2-3 of the colder mornings, early risers will see lows at or just below 32f (0C).

HOW MUCH SUN AND RAIN
Skies can be expected to be clear or partly sunny on about 17-18 days this month with mostly cloudy conditions likely on 13-14 days.
Rain normally falls on 8-9 days this month, however, significant rainfalls of 0.5 inch (about 13mm) or more occur, on average, only on about 2 days.
Snow can occur in October; however, it is not normally an issue.
Chicago only sees a dusting of snow about once every 5 years and a snowfall of 1 inch or more about once in 10 years.
WHAT TO WEAR IN CHICAGO IN OCTOBER
It would be best to bring a sweater or two. Early in the month, a sweater may be all you need.
However, as the month progresses, you may want to add some layers with a medium weight jacket a welcome addition to add to that sweater on the colder days or when touring near the Lake Michigan.
October is a good time to visit the Windy City’s famous neighborhoods so join us for our Chicago Loop and Millennium Park Tour or our Riverwalk and History Tour.
THINGS TO DO IN CHICAGO IN OCTOBER
Although it will be a bit cold in October during this time of year, you might still want to consider going on a pay-what-you-wish walking tour around the city.
With Halloween just around the corner, this would also be a great time to take a Chicago ghost tour.
In addition to free outings, there are also ghost bus tours and haunted pub tours you might want to consider.
The Chicago White Sox or the Cubs might also find themselves in the postseason, and you should also be able to catch either an NHL game with the Blackhawks or an NFL match with the Bears.
There are also usually quite a few decent concerts and stand-up comedy shows to see this month. For more ideas, make sure to check our full post covering things to do in Chicago in October.

Rising prices, cooperation with NATO, compensation to tourists. Eurodigest: highlights of the week
Foto: Reuters/Scanpix/LETA
More than 90% of EU residents called rising prices the most worrying problem for them, the European Union and NATO signed a cooperation agreement, the countries of Eastern Europe began preparing the tenth package of sanctions against the Russian Federation due to the invasion of Ukraine, inflation in the eurozone at the end of the year was 9.2% ( in Latvia – more than 20%), and the EU Court of Justice ruled that tourists who interrupted their vacation due to the introduction of anti-covid restrictions can claim compensation. Delfi talks about the main European news for the past week. nine0003

“Eurobarometer”: most of all the inhabitants of Latvia are concerned about rising prices, only 22% are satisfied with the government’s measures to combat the crisis
What happened? On Thursday, the results of a new public opinion survey commissioned by the European Parliament were published. In October-November last year, sociologists interviewed more than 26,000 residents of all EU countries, including 1,031 Latvians. A significant part of the questions was devoted to how Europeans are experiencing the economic crisis, how they evaluate the actions of national and European authorities and what decisions are expected from them in the future. Detailed results of the study can be found here. nine0003
What does this mean? The problem that most worries the inhabitants of Latvia is the rising cost of living (92%, in the EU – 93%). Following are the possible involvement of new countries in the Russian war against Ukraine (83%), a potential nuclear accident (78%), poverty and social marginalization (77%). It is indicative that the problem of climate change worries Latvians much less than the average European (56% versus 81%).
Speaking about their economic situation, 53% of respondents in Latvia said that their income is enough for a fairly comfortable life, 65% never or almost never have problems with paying bills. However, 38% reported that their standard of living has declined over the year and is unlikely to rise in the coming year; another 40% have maintained their standard of living, but they expect the situation to worsen in the next 12 months (both below the EU average). Only one in five respondents said they were satisfied with the actions of the Latvian government to combat the rising cost of living. nine0003
37% of Latvian residents believe that the overall situation in the country is developing in the right direction (24% on average in the EU think so). Latvians demonstrate greater satisfaction when answering a similar question about the European Union and their own lives, however, the share of those who gave such an answer both in the country and in the EU has noticeably decreased over the year. The majority of respondents in Latvia said they are optimistic about the future of the European Union (63%).
The EU and NATO will work together to protect critical infrastructure and combat cyber threats
What happened? On Tuesday, January 10, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, EU Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen signed a declaration on cooperation between the North Atlantic Alliance and the European Union. This is the third such document; previous agreements were signed in 2016 and 2018. “Given the times in which we live, we know that we must strengthen, and now deepen more than 20 years of partnership. Because the security of Europe has been called into question and is under threat,” von der Leyen commented on the signing of the declaration. “Putin wanted less NATO, but achieved the opposite: he will have more NATO and more EU. […] We Europeans want to take more responsibility for our defense,” Michel said. In turn, Stoltenberg announced “the determination to take the partnership between NATO and the European Union to a new level.” nine0003
What does this mean? The declaration signed this week focuses on cooperation in protecting critical infrastructure, increasing resilience to outside interference and manipulation of information, combating cyber threats and terrorism. The agreement also covers space exploration and new technologies and mitigation of the effects of the climate crisis on global security. NATO and the EU intend to coordinate more closely with regard to Russia and China in connection with “increasing geostrategic competition” and in order to “protect critical infrastructure.” nine0003
The EU is preparing the tenth package of sanctions against Russia
What happened? EU countries have begun work on new restrictions that will be imposed against the Russian Federation due to a full-scale war against Ukraine, Reuters writes, citing anonymous diplomats from Poland and Lithuania. Work on the tenth package of sanctions is planned to be completed by February 24, which will be one year since the beginning of the Russian invasion. The previous, ninth, package was introduced in mid-December – in particular, Russia banned the export of aircraft engines, froze the assets of two banks, revoked licenses from three Russian TV channels, and imposed sanctions against high-ranking officials and propagandists. nine0003
What does this mean? According to Reuters, the new sanctions will target Russia’s nuclear industry and diamond exports. Also, the initiators of additional restrictions advocate disconnecting new Russian banks from the SWIFT system and blocking Kremlin-controlled media that are still available in Europe. The sanctions will also affect the official Minsk, which continues to support the Russian invasion of Ukraine. At the same time, one of the Reuters sources stressed that “it is becoming increasingly difficult to achieve the necessary unanimity in the EU for new sanctions” – for example, Hungary will certainly speak out against restrictions on Rosatom, the authorities of which ordered the construction of new units of a local nuclear power plant from this company. nine0003
Inflation for the year in the Eurozone was less than 10%
What happened? According to a preliminary estimate by the European Bureau of Statistics (Eurostat), prices in the euro area rose by 9.2% over the year. At the end of November, inflation year-on-year was 10.1%, in December 2021 this figure was 5%. The greatest contribution to inflation, as in the previous months, was made by more expensive energy resources. At the same time, over the month, the increase in prices in this category of goods year-on-year decreased from 34.9% to 25.7%. nine0003
What does this mean? The largest price increase in 2022 was recorded in Latvia – 20.7%, in 2021 inflation was 7.9%. Last year’s leader, Estonia (12%), this time in third place with an increase of 17.5%; in both 2021 and 2022, Lithuania was in second place on the list (10.7% and 20%, respectively). The prices rose the least in a year in Spain (5.6%), Luxembourg (6.2%) and France (6. 7%). Eurostat experts emphasize that these statistics are only a preliminary estimate. Updated data usually appear in the second half of the month, but slightly differ from the preliminary ones. nine0003
Tourists whose vacation was interrupted due to the pandemic can get their money back
What happened? The Court of Justice of the European Union responded to a request from a court in Munich, which is considering a case for compensation for a vacation on a tourist package interrupted due to anti-COVID measures. Two residents of Germany went to the island of Gran Canaria in March 2020, two days later they introduced the first restrictions against the spread of Covid-19 and forbade tourists to leave the hotel, a few days later the plaintiffs were sent home. The tour operator, whose services were used by the residents of Germany, refused to refund part of the money spent to its customers, they went to court demanding compensation for 70% of the cost of the tour. nine0003
What does this mean? The highest judicial body of the EU has ruled that “a traveler is entitled to a reduction in the price of a holiday if the non-compliance of the travel services included in the package is due to restrictions imposed at the destination to combat the spread of an infectious disease, such as Covid-19.” It does not matter whether similar restrictions have already been introduced in the country of residence of the tourist or in third countries. The final decision, taking into account the expressed position of the Court of Justice of the European Union, will now be made by the judges in Munich, who are considering the compensation case. nine0003

Copernicus | Europe’s eyes on Earth
IMPLEMENTED BY ECMWF
Europe had its warmest October in the record, with temperatures nearly 2°C above the 1991-2020 reference period. In western Europe a warm spell brought record daily temperatures and it was a record-warm October for Austria, Switzerland and France, as well as for large parts of Italy and Spain.
Beyond Europe, Canada experienced record warmth, and much warmer-than-average conditions also occurred in Greenland and Siberia. Meanwhile, the largest colder-than-average temperatures were found in Australia, far eastern Russia, and in parts of west Antarctica.

October 2022 saw temperatures above the 1991-2020 average across most of Europe, with certain parts of Europe having exceptional warmth on daily and monthly periods. The highlight box below provides further details. Only Iceland and Türkiye experienced temperatures slightly below average.
Canada and western parts of the United States experienced above-average temperatures. In British Columbia, Canada, the temperatures were approximately 3°C warmer than average. Large parts of Greenland and Siberia had much above-average temperatures, although the Greenland anomalies were smaller than those witnessed in September. The Middle East, Iran, and the southern half of Africa also had warmer-than-average conditions. Antarctica saw regions of above- and below-average temperatures in the Atlantic/Indian and Pacific sectors, respectively.
Below-average temperatures occurred across most of Australia, and particularly in western Australia. The southeast United States, parts of Mexico, South America, northern Africa, pockets across Asia, and far eastern Russia also experienced colder-than-average conditions.
Near-surface air temperatures were mixed over the major ocean basins. Above-average temperatures occurred over the majority of the Atlantic Ocean, the Arctic Ocean, the northwestern Pacific, and in a band of the South Pacific stretching from northern Australia to southern South America. Marine air temperatures were lower than average over a large area covering the tropical and southern sub-tropical eastern Pacific, indicative of the continuing La Niña conditions, as well as in a region off the coast of West Antarctica. Mixed conditions were found across the Indian Ocean.

Globally, October 2022 was:
0.41°C warmer than the 1991-2020 average
cooler by around 0.04°C than October 2019, the warmest October
it ranks within the three next warmest Octobers by differing only marginally from October 2015 and 2021 (by 0.01 and 0.03°C respectively).
European-average temperature anomalies are generally larger and more variable than global anomalies. The European-average temperature for October 2022 was 1.92°C above the 1991-2020 average which is the warmest October in the record. This is about 0.5°C warmer than the next warmest October which occurred in 2020.

There is more variability in average European temperatures, but relatively dense observational coverage of the continent reduces uncertainty. The average for this latest twelve-month period is 0.71°C above the 1991-2020 average. 2020 is the warmest calendar year on record for Europe by a clear margin, with a temperature of 1.2°Cabove the 1991-2020 average.
Note on global values from ERA5 and other temperature datasets
There is general agreement among datasets that the period since 2015 is much warmer globally than any previous period. There is also agreement that global temperature has risen at an average rate close to 0.2°C per decade since the late 1970s. There is nevertheless still some spread between the datasets for recent years, such as for 2020 and 2021, and the annual average temperature anomalies for these years from ERA5 are generally higher than those from the five other datasets considered. The differences range from 0.02 to 0.08°C for 2016-2021. The range is 0.00 to 0.07°C if air temperature over sea is replaced by sea-surface temperature for ERA5 and the other dataset for which sea-surface temperature was not used by design. The remaining differences depend partly on the extent to which datasets represent the relatively warm conditions that have predominated over the Arctic and Antarctic during these years. Differences elsewhere in estimates of sea-surface temperature and surface air temperature over land have been further factors.
The surface air temperature analysis homepage explains more about the production and reliability of the values presented here, but has yet to be updated to include the new information on dataset spread mentioned above.

It is predicted that the average October temperature in Tyumen will be +3.3 degrees, which fits into the climate norm. This means that during the month there will be an equal number of warm and cold days. The meteorologist reported.

The month will begin with a cold snap, but from October 4, temperatures are expected to rise to +15 degrees. It is expected that moderately warm weather will last until October 12, and then there will be a drop in temperature to +7 … +11 degrees. In the second half of the month, day and night temperatures will range from -5 to +5 degrees,” Ilya Vinshtein, weather forecaster and author of the Weather 45 project, told 72.RU.

Signs of October
During the month, 17 to 22 mm of precipitation will fall. Temperature -5, -15 degrees. If the snow falls in mid-October, it will not melt. nine0003

October 7 – the days are reduced by the length of the horse’s step.
October 8 – if it snows that day, then already on October 21, a horse with a cart can cross the river.
October 17 — winter begins, it’s time to put on winter clothes

The Hottest Greek Island in October
Thinking about getting away in October? Wondering where you can go to catch the last remnants of the summer? A vacation to the Greek Islands could be a good option. Some Greek Islands are better than others during the Autumn, and picking the hottest Greek Island in October will mean that you’ll still be able to do activities such as swimming, hiking and eating/drinking outside.
The hottest Greek island in October is Rhodes and it is a great time to visit. Not only will the crowds be much smaller and hotels cheaper, but the average daily temperature is still 21℃. The first half of the month is undeniably better to visit as the days are still very sunny and warm, with around 8 hours of sunshine a day and a pleasant sea temperature of 22℃ – still fine for swimming and sunbathing. As fall is on its way in, from mid-October you’ll notice a gradual change not just in temperature but also cloud cover and rain.
Weather in Rhodes – The hottest Greek island in October
Temperature
The weather in Rhodes in October is still very warm with plenty of sunshine. This is particularly true during the first half of the month, with average daily highs of 24℃ and often above. The average daily lows will start creeping down towards 18℃ in the latter half of the month.
This type of weather is still great for going to the beach, swimming, hiking and generally spending time outside. Hence this is why I personally recommend visiting Rhodes and other Greek islands in October. You won’t find this weather in Northern or Western Europe at this time.
The October temperatures are more comfortable than the sweltering heat of the peak of summer, which makes sight-seeing on an island with plenty of interesting sites, noticeably more pleasant. During the summer, with the sun beating down, it can be way too tiring to stay out on in the sun for long periods.
October 2019 in Rhodes was particularly warm. Holidayweather.com is a good website that provides average historical temperatures as well as daily records from recent years.
This page by Tripsavvy has some average temperatures expected for Greece in general over the different months. This page from SantoriniDave has some general information month by month for the mainland and the Greek islands as a whole.
Rain and wind
You can expect some rain on the island of Rhodes in October, generally in the latter half of the month. There are on average, five days of rain during October, bringing a total of 68mm of rain. Wind tends to remain low to moderate, considerably less breezy than the Cycladic islands within the Aegean corridor.
What to wear
You should bring light clothes during the day including short sleeved shirts and shorts. Pack a long sleeve sweater or a light jacket that you can easily take with you for the milder evenings.
Rhodes (and Greece in general) is casual, comfortable and unpretentious. Hence, people dress in what they feel comfortable in. You won’t ever really feel “underdressed” in the evening, whether going to a taverna, restaurant or bar.
Pack casual clothes for comfort and a dress or collared shirt if you feel like dressing up a bit. Leave the heels at home, opting for flats instead for the cobbled and sloped streets.
Things to do in Rhodes – the hottest Greek island in October
Beaches
Rhodes has a big selection of really good beaches, as is to be expected for one of the most popular islands in Greece. They’re easily comparable to the famous beaches of Crete and the best of Mykonos. It’s coastline creates some really interesting landscapes, with some of the most picturesque beaches on the East coast and some more windy and active ones on the West coast. Check out the best sandy beaches in Rhodes here, good to visit in October as well as summer.
Rhodes old town
Rhodes old town has some gems to visit such as the Palace of the Grand Master of the Knights and the Street of the Knights. It is the oldest inhabited medieval town in Europe, filled with narrow lanes, cobbled streets, shops, restaurants and cafes, enclosed by a towering perimeter wall.
Getting lost among this 600 year old town is an activity in itself and doing so in October is all the more enjoyable than trying to explore its ancient winding streets in the summer.
Ancient Rhodes
There are ancient sites in Rhodes dating back way further than the medieval period as far back as the 15th century BC. These sites, outside of course, are way more pleasant to visit in the the cooler months of October and Septembet. Well worth a visit are the remains of the ancient Minoan settlements such as Ancient Ialyssos.
The ancient city of Kamiros from the 5th century BC with its ruins intact is certainly worth visiting. So too the Acropolis of Rhodes and Lindos both of which are very popular sites, sit high atop hills offering amazing views across the seas.
Lastly, there are a number of medieval castles located on fortified rocks such as Monolithos and Feraclos, prosiding the old armies with look out points and visitors with great views.
Hikes
Rhodes has plenty of nature, sanctuaries, hills and landscapes to explore. Try hiking this route which starts at the village Salakos and ends at the Monastery of Prophet Elias.
This area is a protected wildlife sanctuary. During your hike, you will be able to spot deer, trek through rare vegetation and towering pine trees, past monasteries and the open woods. You will finally arrive at Hotel Ealfos, an intriguing italian style building and named after the native deer of the surrounding sanctuary. Enjoy a well deserved drink at the peak of this peaceful mountain and look out across the stretching views.
Other options – hottest Greek islands in October
Although Rhodes is officially the hottest Greek island in October, there are other top islands worth considering this month, including; Santorini, Crete, Zakynthos and Corfu. All are close behind, with average temperatures above 19℃, but varying levels of sunshine and rainfall. Take a look at the table below for the October averages.
These islands tend to get very busy during the peak of summer and can end up charging a lot for flights and accommodation. So again, it’s well worth visiting these in October, especially early to mid if you can.

Athens is also a great city to visit during the fall. Check out this post for why you should visit Athens in October.
Travel tips for October
Book flights well in advance for the best prices. Although you’ll be getting them at a significant discount to the summer peak, it’s always worth booking early for further discounts
Either fly direct or via Athens to get to Rhodes. Try not to take the ferry as it can take upwards of 8 hours and sometimes 13 hours to get to this Dodecanesean island to the far South East of the mainland. The price difference is not all that significant.
Book hotels in advance with free cancellation in case of further price drops within a couple of weeks of you leaving
Rent a car to maximise your exploration of the island.

Sulfur Skies over La Palma
More than a month after Cumbre Vieja began erupting, the volcano in the Canary Islands shows no signs of calming. In the past week, increasingly intense earthquakes, lava fountains, and emissions of ash and volcanic gases have rocked La Palma.
One new breakout lava flow has been advancing through a developed area on the island’s western flank, consuming buildings and fields in its path. Nearly 2,000 homes and hundreds of hectares of farmland have been destroyed by lava flows since the eruption began in September 2021.
Among the substances pouring from the volcano is sulfur dioxide (SO2), a pungent gas that reacts with oxygen and moisture to form a gray volcanic haze called vog. Vog is made up of sulfuric acid and sulfate aerosols.
On October 18, 2021, NASA’s Aqua satellite acquired imagery showing faint visible traces of vog streaming towards Europe. A few minutes later, the Ozone Monitoring Instrument (OMI) on NASA’s Aura satellite took measurements of the SO2 in the plume. The map above shows where Aura detected SO2 in the planetary boundary layer, the lowest part of the atmosphere. The sensor’s spatial resolution of 13 square kilometers (5 square miles) gives the data a blocky quality.
While weather patterns typically blow vog west from Cumbre Vieja over the Atlantic Ocean, shifts in the winds periodically bring plumes northeast toward Europe. “This plume is diffuse enough that I expect minimal impacts on surface air quality and minimal acid rain over Europe in comparison to local sources of air pollution,” said Michigan Tech volcanologist Simon Carn.
Satellite observations indicate Cumbre Vieja has released about 0.5 teragrams (Tg) of sulfur dioxide since the eruption began, enough to make it one of the top 50 SO2 emissions events since satellites began measuring volcanic eruptions in 1978. However, Cumbre Vieja is still far behind other recent effusive eruptions that persisted for months, such as Kilauea (Hawaii) in 2018 and Holuhraun (Iceland) in 2014.
Since the Cumbre Vieja eruption is only modestly explosive (a 2 out of 8 on the Volcanic Explosivity Index), the sulfur dioxide has remained relatively low in the atmosphere and well below the stratosphere. “I don’t expect any lasting global or regional climate impacts. The sulfur dioxide emissions aren’t high enough,” said Carn. “However, the SO2 emissions might have some localized environmental impacts on La Palma and other Canary islands, such as damage to vegetation due to acid deposition and problems with water quality.”

When is the best time to go on vacation to Mallorca
The weather on the island allows you to relax here at any time of the year. True, George Sand was twice wrong when she brought the sick Chopin in the winter. Firstly, they were not allowed into the hotel because they were not spouses. Secondly, in the monastery where they rented a cell, there was no normal heating. In the 21st century, it is not difficult to find out, being thousands of kilometers away, what conditions will be offered to you. People lived here even during the Paleolithic. And at other times they constantly looked. The island has a rich history. It was once part of Carthage, but pirates came and became the main ones here. They were defeated by the consul Quintus Caecilius Metellus, and the island became part of the Roman Empire. Then the Vandals came, then the Byzantines, then the fighters of the Caliphate of Cordoba. In the 13th century, the island was finally captured by the conqueror of the Moors, King Jaime I of Aragon. And the tourist history began in the 20th century. And it doesn’t seem like it’s going to end. There are practically no intervals in the flow of “companions”. Regardless of weather reports.
April
Water and air temperature. At the beginning of the month the air is warmed up to +18…+19°С, and at the end — up to +20…+22°С. The sea becomes warmer +15°С, but it is too early to swim.
Weather conditions. Spring in Mallorca is stormy. Coastal resorts delight with lush subtropical greenery. The number of rainy days is reduced to 11. Daylight hours by the end of the month increases to 13.8 hours. During the day, vacationers walk in light clothes, and at dusk they put on sweaters and closed shoes.
Reviews of tourists. Mid-spring is the best time to visit Mallorca with small children. The high season has not yet arrived, there is no large concentration of tourists and high prices. The kids do not suffer from the heat and are happy to swim in the heated pools of the hotels. Tourists from European countries come to Spain to participate in the celebration of Catholic Easter.
Meals
Meals in Mallorca hotels are rarely included in the room rate. Usually tourists eat out of hotels, in restaurants of local cuisine, especially since the culinary traditions of Mallorca are to the taste of children.
A dish called Pa amb tomàquet is perfect for a quick snack: these are toasted slices of bread, spread with a mixture of tomatoes, olive oil and garlic. You can put sausage or cheese on such bread.
Among the Mallorcan desserts, children really like the ensaimada, a sweet roll made from yeast dough rolled into a spiral.
If you prefer to cook yourself, you can buy all the necessary products in supermarkets. They are almost everywhere, but in some towns only small shops work. Also, all resorts have their own market day, when fresh vegetables, fruits, meats and cheeses are traded.

Mallorcan Cuisine
People in Mallorca love to eat hearty, so there are plenty of meat dishes on the menu of restaurants. Pork is respected here – the meat is stewed with cabbage, pine nuts and raisins. You can order a suckling pig – the dish is called “lechona”. Roast “Majorcan frito” of lamb is popular. A special place in Mallorcan cuisine is occupied by spicy sausages – sobrasada. Paprika and fragrant seasonings are added to the sausage. This sausage is more like a pate and is perfect for making sandwiches.
In addition, in Mallorca it is easy to buy jamon and build the famous “pa amb oli” from it. This is a popular appetizer made from bread soaked in olive oil with tomatoes and jamon. Those with a sweet tooth will love the rubllols pies stuffed with jam or tender cottage cheese, the apricot pie with ice cream, the almond cake gato de almendras. A sweet ensaimada bun is perfect for coffee.

Luna Rossa sailed their LEQ12 on the Gulf of Cagliari, in their strongest breeze yet, and had a valuable, incident free session.
American Magic stayed ashore in Pensacola
INEOS Britannia stayed in the shed in Barcelona
Alinghi Red Bull Racing went into the shed in Barcelona on November 16, for upgrades and is yet to emerge
Emirates Team New Zealand are repairing their AC40/LEQ20 after a violent nosedive on November 21. There is no date announced when it will begin sailing.
The measurement debate continues as to whether the Brit’s Instrumentation Pole is in fact a Mast tube – they are only allowed one Mast tube on the LEQ12
Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli, the Italian America’s Cup challenger say they had a “productive practice day” on Wednesday, sailing in their strongest wind yet in their LEQ12 prototype.
It was a day of two halves, with six crew aboard, and the #4 jib – their smallest – was used for the first time in the 17-20kts NW breeze, which greeted the team on their arrival on Golfo degli Angeli (the Gulf of Angels).
The afternoon was better as the breeze became more angelic and the sun appeared.
During the lunch-break the breeze stayed constant in direction, but dropped to 9-12kts, to which the team responded by changing up to their J2, and had two crew taken off the 12 metre long prototype – presumably to reduce weight. However the performance data from the half-size AC75, would have been more relevant with just half the crew allowed for the AC75. Even so, the recon team charged with pursuing Luna Rossa, reported that they struggled to keep pace with the flying LEQ12.
Vittorio Bissaro, Italian 2016 Olympic representative in the Nacra 17, was on board Luna Rossa and described the experience:
“It was my first time in this condition [20kts]. I really enjoyed the opportunity. We were out in the higher end of the wind range. The boat is pretty scary in that condition, because it’s so fast, so nervous – it was shaking. “
Bissaro has two role on the LEQ12 – that of sail trimmer and flight controller.
When analysing relative boat performance in the AC75’s or AC40’s, it is very useful to know whether the flight control system is running on automatic to enable consistent performance data collection, or if the sailors are have it on manual for training purposes.
“The biggest difference between the autopilot and me is that so far, the autopilot is a lot better than a human. So it’s a target for us to reach the autopilot’s performance,’ Bissario explained.
“The flight trimmer’s role is basically try to level the boat and have a ride height that is constant through the water,” he explained.
“For today, as an example – and the day before – we had the Mistral wind. A Mistral wind is normally is super flat here, and usually with some swell from outside, so today the sea was not that consistent. Keeping the ride height constant with these bumpy sea, is not always easy.
“So it’s a very demanding role, and very important for performance. It is nice to try and beat the autopilot,” he added.
Responding to a question as to whether Luna Rossa had reached the target for their performance in these wind conditions, Bissario said “as you can imagine, it is still an early stage, and early days for us with this boat.”
“We are talking about performance, but always with a little of consideration for the fact that the boat has not been on the water for very long.
“But all in all, it was a very good day on the water. Sometimes we reach what we are expecting – sometimes we don’t. But that means that we just have to investigate and try to do it on the next day”.
Session Statistics – Cagliari – November 30, 2022 – Luna Rossa Prada Pirelli – LEQ12
Off the water the Rules Roundabout picked up pace, as the teams and Rules Committee try to come to a conclusion as to whether an “Instrumentation Post” constitutes a “Mast Tube”, and is therefore covered by the rule restricting teams to just one “Mast Tube” for their LEQ12’s.
INEOS Britannia revealed what looked to be a very tall towing strut, which also bristled with instrumentation devices.
The penny never really dropped when we first saw the controversial Pole in the Recon File System. First thought was that the Brits were going over the top with their calibration.
Towing posts were used in the run up to the 2017 America’s Cup, when a small spar/strut was strapped unto the mast step for the wingsailed catamaran. The strut was attached by stays to the hulls of the catamaran, and it was a safety measure to prevent excess hull wracking and damage during the towing trials, if something did not go according to plan.
Having gone to all the trouble of fitting the Instrumentation Pole, it was a little surprising to see the Brits tow testing the next day leaving their newly rigged spar ashore.
Part of the Rules Roundabout is its complete anonymity – so a team can ask for an interpretation, or give their response, without disclosing their design thinking to other teams.
All a team knows is what they have submitted – and the guess work begins on who has triggered the initial request, and the follow-on responses to the responses.
The purpose of the Instrumentation Post is clearly a way of getting around the ban on tank testing, and gives the ability to tank test in full scale.
It also enables the LEQ12 to have a sailing mode and a towing mode. In the latter mode heel can be induced in a measured and controlled way – as is done in real tank testing, The outcomes can be shown visually and also measured. The downside, of course, is that the test platform and foils are being towed in propwash from the chase boat – unless they tow at an angle, which starts getting awkward, with a chance of the platform being overturned.
The Brits are clearly pushing out the boundaries of precision testing, well beyond what has gone before – where previously a tow test on a foiler was just a means of checking for leaks, foil control systems operation and the like.
INEOS Britannia’s approach is to very precisely calibrate their test platform – and effectively give it a double use – when sails are hoisted, or towed without sails to check foil performance and issues. The sail-less platform is probably the best way to attack the foilers problem of cavitation, which is the Sound Barrier of foiling and is speed inhibiting.
Find a solution that pushes out that boundary to a significant degree, and you’ve probably won the America’s Cup.
The approach is not novel, Frank Bethwaite used to tow full size NS14’s behind a small outboard boat on the sheltered reaches of Sydney Harbour – with a spring balance inserted into the tow rope. In that way he discovered the way different shaped hulls transitioned from displacement to planing, and devised hull shapes which flattened the “drag-hump”, or allowed a boat to transition from displacement to planing mode with a minimum of energy.
Interestingly Bethwaite, a brilliant man, was quite dismissive of small scale testing. “We towed only real hulls, which were ballasted to real sailing weights. We never trusted models because such unpredictable things happen in the scale changes from model to full size.”
His last projects – detailed in “High Performance Sailing” hinged around foiling – with 49er hulls – both in sailing mode, but also by attaching a long shaft outboard to the 49er. The controlled power of an engine erased many of the error factors, which it seems the Brits are well aware of – and are keen to avoid in their performance data collection.
Interestingly, in its draft interpretation, the Rules Committee opined that to fall within the “principal spar” requirement contained in the definition of a Mast Tube, “the towing post need only resemble one (or more) aspects of either the form or function of a mast tube”.
It is very hard to see how a reasonable argument could be sustained that a round metal tube, a few metres long, with instruments strapped onto it, could be construed as the Principal Spar on a yacht which normally uses a D-Section carbon mast with double sail tracks down the aft edge to hoist the double skinned mainsail.
The weather in Mallorca in October
Mallorca in October is still beautiful and desirable. And although the tourist season on the island is coming to an end, you can have time to recuperate and bask in the Spanish sunny weather.
Mallorca is a small Spanish island that belongs to the Balearic Islands group. Amazing nature and mild climate, together with a luxurious line of beaches, create optimal conditions for a good rest. That is why the flow of tourists to this corner of the globe is growing from year to year. Moreover, you can relax here both in summer and in winter.
Let’s talk about the weather in October
If your vacation, planned on the islands of the Mediterranean Sea, fell in October, then you can safely spend it in Mallorca. It is advisable to go here in early October: you will still have time to swim in the clear blue waters and get a little tan. Although the weather this month is quite unpredictable. If a beach holiday is not the main thing in your trip, then feel free to book a tour. Moreover, in the middle of autumn, prices are the lowest here, and the favorite places of tourists become deserted.
The sea has not yet cooled down: it has absorbed a lot of the generous sun and is happy to share it with the guests. If there is no wind or precipitation, then it is quite possible to dive. The weather in October can be different: hot days can alternate with rains and cold evenings. Precipitation is possible for twelve days. It is warmest in Cala d’Or, Alcudia, Santa Ponsa. At the end of October, it will no longer be possible to swim, moreover, warm clothes will not be superfluous at all.

How to relax in Mallorca
In October, the excursion and cultural program comes to the fore on the island.
The beach season with sunbathing, sunbathing and water activities, alas, is over, but this is not a reason to be discouraged. Some days you can treat yourself to that too. Mallorca is emptying: noisy companies, families with children are leaving, many parks and clubs are closing. But isn’t this ideal conditions for the older generation to relax? That’s why European pensioners love spending October here so much!
October weather still allows you to explore the various sights of the island. Be sure to include the following in your itinerary:
Arta caves, located at an altitude of 150 meters above sea level. There are spacious stone halls, stalagmites of rare beauty and size, various shows and concerts are regularly held;
old Palma de Mallorca;
the ancient estate of La Granja, located in the town of Valldemosa;
Cape Formentor;
Cabrera National Reserve;
Galatzo Natural Park.
In addition, various events are held in Mallorca this month: Okteberfest, popular not only in Germany (Palma de Mallorca, Santa Ponce), where you can taste not only different types of beer, but also tapas (snacks to it). The capital of the island hosts the Tango Festival, during which you can learn this sensual dance.
Prices for holidays in Mallorca in October

For a ticket for two people when staying in a double room and without meals (2-star hotel), you will need to pay 800-850 euros per week. A ten-day trip will cost about 1100 euros. You can save even more if you book a tour in advance or look for last-minute offers. In the case of last-minute trips, you should be ready to go to Mallorca at any time of the year and have a Schengen visa.
weather, rest, reviews. What to expect from Mallorca in October Is it worth going to Mallorca in October
October. With family
Spain, Mallorca island
It took a long time to decide whether or not to go to Mallorca. We were scared by our friends that October is a cold month for this resort. But the great desire of his wife to go to Mallorca left no choice. Upon arrival, we realized that warm sweaters would serve us well here. When we arrived at the airport, it was raining with gusts of wind. The only thought that warmed us was that we had saved on tours.
So Mallorca! The hope of wearing swimming trunks and a swimsuit has disappeared by itself. It remains to devote rest to excursions. We went to the beach just to get our feet wet. I’m not a freezer, but the water in the sea was clearly for walruses. There were few tourists, all the beaches were empty. The bulk of the tourists we saw are people of retirement age. The hotel was practically empty. Nobody annoyed us with noise during sleep. A good half of the entertainment clubs and cafes were already closed, but the excursions helped out the situation and gave us wonderful impressions of Mallorca.
Oct. With family
Spain, Majorca island
We went to Mallorca in October with my wife and child. Tourist agents dissuaded us for a long time, saying that at this time the weather did not bode well, but this did not bother us at all, given the one and a half times lower price.
So we arrived in Mallorca. October made itself felt from the first minutes of our stay, we took warm clothes with us for good reason. It seemed that you could forget about a beach holiday, but on the third day of our vacation, the sun pleased us with warm weather, we plunged into the ocean once. Entering, by the way, already makes me feel like an extreme sportsman, but we got plenty of sunbathing. Once they forgot to take a suntan cream to the beach, the consequences in the evening forced me to buy a cream for burns. Most of the time we went on excursions. The guide competently thought out all the routes for visiting the sights. We had a great rest, we are thinking of returning to Mallorca next year, but in the summer.
A trip to Mallorca in October is a risk, you may or may not get lucky with the weather. If a beach holiday is not the main purpose of your trip, then at this time you can safely go to the island, you will get a lot of unforgettable impressions, and also save money. So, find out on the Tour Calendar what Mallorca can please you in October!
Weather in Mallorca in October
The weather in October in Mallorca is unpredictable, it can be sunny, warm or even hot days, or it can rain or even get colder. The sea will most likely still be quite warm, but towards the end of the month it will already be cool. It might be a little warmer in Alcudia, Cala d’Or or Santa Ponsa. The average air temperature in Mallorca during the day is about + 22 ° C, but it can be both +15 and +27. It is already cool at night – about +15°C, so warm clothes are a must, even jackets may be needed.
Beach holidays
October is not the month of beach holidays, although the sea has not yet cooled down and allows you to splash or even swim for a long time. Another thing is how much the weather will contribute to this – during rain or winds you are unlikely to want to get into the water. But on such a clear October day, hardly anything will stop you! It is simply impossible to predict what the weather will be like during your holiday in October.
Entertainment and excursions
In October, the last families with children and young people leave the island, and it’s time for a relaxing holiday in Mallorca. Many nightclubs and some amusement parks are closing. This is a favorite time for European pensioners to relax, because prices at this time are one and a half times lower than in summer. In October, the weather allows you to move a lot, so you can see a lot of sights of the island – in the northeast of the island, at an altitude of 150 meters above sea level, there are Arta caves, where there are “halls” with biblical names – “Purgatory”, “Hell” and “Paradise” , as well as the world’s largest 22-meter stalagmite. Shows, concerts accompanied by lighting effects are also arranged here for guests.
In the town of Valldemosa there is an interesting old estate La Granja – a very picturesque place. It is worth visiting Cape Formentor, the Cabrera National Reserve, the Galatzo Natural Park and many other interesting places.
Holidays and festivals
Like any other time, Mallorca always celebrates something in October. This month, the island hosts a seemingly unusual holiday – Okteberfest, a world-famous German festival. It’s simple – in Spain they love not only wine, but also beer! The festival is held in Palma de Mallorca and Santa Ponce, where concerts, beer tasting and other events take place. At the same time, a tapas competition is taking place on the island – delicious small snacks for beer or wine.
For those who love dancing and just romance, in October we can advise you to visit the tango festival held in Palma de Mallorca. During the festival, every day there are concerts of musicians and dancers from Argentina and Spain, as well as lessons for those who want to learn. So you have every opportunity to come home and surprise everyone with incendiary dances!
What are the prices for holidays in Majorca in October?
Prices for holidays in Mallorca in October are among the lowest of the year, lower than in July or August by almost one and a half times!
Mallorca, like the rest of the Balearic Islands, belongs to the type of tourist sites that can and should be visited all year round. Of course, this does not mean at all that the weather conditions will not differ from month to month. Today we will describe the weather situation in October on the island of Mallorca. You will also find out how beautiful it is in the middle of autumn.
Changes in the weather in October in Majorca
Air temperature can vary considerably. On average, during the day it is 24 ° C, at night – around 20 ° C. In general, there is a trend towards a decrease in temperature values. But there are days that fall out of direct dependence. For example, it happens that during the day the air warms up only to 17-20 ° C, or vice versa, it exceeds the mark of 30 ° C. The sea temperature during the month gradually decreases from 24-25 °С to 21-22 °С. The wind during the day is predominantly south-westerly at a speed of 4-6 m/s, several days a month it can be replaced by north-easterly at a speed of 3-8 m/s. Precipitation is rare, 1-2 times a month. At the same time, it is partly cloudy or cloudy for most of October (there are few clear days).
October recreation and entertainment
The velvet season in Mallorca continues, which means that you still have the opportunity to swim in the sea, lie on the beach and get acquainted with the sights of the island. At the same time, the low season is looming ahead somewhere, which means that most of the youth are leaving this place, entertainment establishments are losing their audience and closing the shop until the best time of the year.
Mallorca is transforming and calming down: in October you can meet many married couples and retirees from Europe. On October 12, the Spanish National Day is celebrated throughout the country as a public holiday. The celebration is accompanied by musical events, with songs and dances, street processions, various competitions, etc. – everything as the Spaniards love, atmospheric and on a grand scale. Also this month you can capture the tapas and beer festival. For those who like to eat and drink, these small holidays will give new features to the holiday.
Finally
Do you appreciate a quiet holiday and do not like the heat? Then the weather in Mallorca in October will more than suit you. Jewel of the Balearic archipelago, the Spanish island of Mallorca is popular with Russian tourists due to the gentle Mediterranean Sea and convenient beaches. Holidays in Mallorca in October – this is a bliss on the beach at comfortable air temperatures + 24-28, water + 23-25.
The main purpose of the tour is usually “beach”, with riding on all kinds of catamarans, water skiing, bananas and other active entertainment. Sea and coastal fishing is popular among men. Well, the evening is a celebration of partying at beach parties, which literally every hotel on the island holds with chic and brilliance.
Lovers of a relaxing holiday go to the golf courses. Even if you are not fond of this sport, you can simply ride through the emerald meadows on your own or with a driver. Fans of historical adventures are advised to visit Palma de Mallorca, take a walk around the Old Town, take pictures at Bellver Castle, drive to the Valldemos Monastery, where part of the premises is reserved for a rather interesting museum.
Active tourists prefer trekking to the Serra de Tramuntana, where there are specially laid paths for bicycles, and an experienced guide will select the route according to your physical condition.
The main October events of the island are the Harvest Festival and the autumn fairs, where the stalls are bursting with goat cheeses, fruit, olives and young wine. And in the evening on the Harvest Festival, “Estol del Rei En Jaume” takes place – a costumed performance of young Spanish artists who play scenes from the history of Mallorca.

The Mediterranean Sea is one of the warmest in the world. And therefore, the climate of the countries located on its shores is mild, and there is almost no cold winter. The beach season in some areas can last until December, and if you are not very afraid of freezing, you can swim all year round. They say that the weather in Mallorca in October 2020 is sunny, and it rarely rains. The water temperature in the sea reaches +25 degrees, and there are many families with children on the beaches. If you are going to the island for a vacation in the middle of autumn, you should take beach clothes, warm autumn clothes and an umbrella with you. Why? Let’s talk further.
Spain’s largest island in the Mediterranean is Mallorca. It is also the most popular and visited by tourists. There are spacious white sand beaches. On the beaches, entertainment for every taste, and children’s parks and attractions are located next to the water. Surfers and diving enthusiasts can be seen anywhere on the island. And in October there are also a lot of them. The weather helps.
With the arrival of the second autumn month, the authorities officially close the beach season. But this is of little concern to tourists, and they continue to go to the beaches and swim in the warm sea. In October, the water temperature in the sea off the coast of the island is about +25 degrees Celsius. Toward the end of the month, the water will cool down and by the beginning of November it will be +21 degrees. Not everyone wants to swim in the cool sea.
But during the day, when the sun is shining, it is always warm and up to + 25 degrees Celsius. 2-3 days a month the temperature rises above thirty degrees of heat and reminds of the bygone summer. In sunny weather, everyone goes to the beaches, because a little more, and you will not approach the sea because of the waves and cold winds.
At night, autumn is felt more. If after sunset it is still comfortable and you can walk in light clothes, then at night the temperature can drop to +17 degrees. And at dawn, the haze over the sea is completely and not higher than +15. Therefore, those who like to meet the dawn on the seashore put on warm clothes.
The number of completely sunny days per month is 22. These are the days when the sun shines from morning to evening, almost not hiding behind clouds and clouds. But it also rains in October. Usually it is 2-3 days, and 30 millimeters of precipitation falls during them. Rain in Mallorca can be anything: quiet and warm, downpour and cold.
If you look only at the weather, then a beach holiday in Mallorca in October is very possible.

So, in 1983 and 1989, only 5 mm of precipitation fell per month, which is 5 times less than the monthly norm. Residents of the capital Palma de Mallorca weather in October 1994 years were outraged (about 250 mm of precipitation fell).

Why? Let’s talk further. nine0003
Not everyone wants to swim in the cool sea. nine0003
Therefore, those who like to meet the dawn on the seashore put on warm clothes. nine0003
The number of fully sunny days per month is 22.
And hundreds of thousands of tourists confirm this. If you are still thinking whether to go here or not, then we recommend going. nine0003
Where is the best place to relax in Mallorca in October: resorts, beaches

Mallorca in October weather and reviews of tourists
Elena.
“The whole family vacationed in Mallorca a year ago in October. They were satisfied. The weather was sunny, there was almost no wind. We swam, and sunbathed, and had fun. The main thing is that prices are already lower here and you can save money.”
nine0493
Max.
“I visited Spain for the first time and immediately decided to visit the island of Mallorca. In October it is sunny here, there are many tourists. Prices seem to be normal, although I have nothing to compare with, but for a tourist they are always higher. I liked the sea. It is warm and clean. Beaches for every taste, as well as entertainment. So everyone is advised to rest here.”
Oct. With family
Spain, Mallorca
It took a long time to decide whether or not to go to Mallorca. We were scared by our friends that October is a cold month for this resort. But the great desire of his wife to go to Mallorca left no choice. When we arrived, we realized that warm sweaters would serve us well here. When we arrived at the airport, it was raining with gusts of wind. The only thought that warmed us was that we had saved on tours. nine0003
A good half of the entertainment clubs and cafes were already closed, but the excursions helped out the situation and gave us wonderful impressions of Mallorca. nine0003
Oct. With family
Spain, Mallorca
We had a great rest, we are thinking of returning to Mallorca next year, but in the summer. nine0003
October is still the holiday season continues in the Mediterranean, including the Spanish Mallorca. The weather pleases with high, but already more moderate temperatures, sunny days and a well-warmed sea.
Mallorca in October is characterized by the following average temperatures: +22 °C during the day, +13 °C at night . At the same time, throughout the month, the air slowly cools down, so that closer to November, a regular decrease in the degree is observed. Mediterranean
nine0540 also cools down, but a little slower. On average, it is warmed up to +23 ° C , however, at the beginning of the month it can still be up to +25 ° C, and in the last days of October the water temperature can reach +20 ° C.
The weather in Mallorca in October is mostly clear , while the number of cloudy hours slightly increases compared to September. The length of daylight continues to naturally decrease, and now it averages 11 hours.
October on the island – rainiest month . At the same time, the precipitation rate is not so great – only 74 mm in seven days where it rains. Relative humidity is 77% .
Winds intensify in mid-autumn, but their speed has not yet reached its maximum limits and averages 4 m/s . As in summer, southwest prevails , however, the probability of winds from the east, south and northwest increases.
In the Mediterranean. It is part of the Balearic archipelago. Near Mallorca nestled her smaller sister – Menorca, tiny but famous Ibiza (Ibiza) and very microscopic Formentera. But in this article we will not talk about the sights of the Balearic Islands. We are interested in Mallorca in October. Is it worth going there in the middle of autumn, or is it better to wait for the opening of the 2017 tourist season? In no case will we dissuade you from a trip to Mallorca in October. But they do not intend to mislead the description of hot and clear days. We will just tell you about the weather conditions in the Balearic Islands in the middle of autumn. And we leave the conclusions to you. nine0003
Beach season in the Balearic Islands
You can go to Mallorca at any time. It is very beautiful there all year round, the level of service is always consistently high. But if we talk about a purely beach holiday, then its season officially begins in early May and ends at the end of September. But not everything is so clear. Wealthy tourists and students flock. But the velvet season continues. Budget tourists and Western European pensioners are trying to catch summer by the tail. Beach in October is possible. And numerous reviews of tourists are proof of this. Of course, lying like a “seal” on the beach for two weeks is unlikely to succeed, especially at the end of the month. The breath of autumn begins to be felt in these subtropical latitudes. Possible cloudiness, precipitation, which falls mainly on the northern part of the island, sea roughness. It is difficult to characterize in Mallorca in October for the reason that the weather in this month is unpredictable. A hot, summer-like sultry day can be replaced by a thunderous evening with heavy wind and downpour. nine0003
Weather in Mallorca in mid-autumn
October in the Balearic Islands still does not look like the rainy and cool period that fell to the inhabitants of the northern latitudes. All the trees are covered with lush greenery, and the sea is still quite warm. The summer entourage of nature is enhanced by the cloudless sky that delights tourists in Mallorca in October. There are an average of twenty-one clear days this month. So you can lift the curtain of the beach season and enjoy sea bathing and sunbathing. But going to Mallorca for a purely beach holiday is a risky business. It may also happen that the autumn will turn out to be rainy. And if it starts to rain, and it passes here with Spanish expressiveness, in the form of thunderstorms, downpours, accompanied by floods and tornadoes, then there will be nothing to think about tanning. But there can be a couple of such days for the whole month. The rest of the time, the weather pleases with the sun and warmth. But, unfortunately, the same cannot be said about the sea. October in the Balearic Islands is the most stormy month. Therefore, during this period it is better to get to Mallorca by plane, and not by sea. nine0003
Temperature indicators of the first half of the month
October is a transitional period. Therefore, the temperature indicators of air and water this month differ significantly. The beginning of October may well pass for the continuation of the velvet season. Sometimes it is not just comfortably warm, but unbearably hot. The maximum temperature in Mallorca in October was recorded in the area of the capital of the island. It was 33.4 o C. But usually the thermometer in the first half of October rarely crosses the line of thirty degrees, but fluctuates in the range of + 24 … +28 o C. Excellent indicators for those tourists who crave a beach holiday, but in At the same time, they cannot bear the heat! The Mediterranean Sea in early October also behaves quite well. The chance of storms is low. And the water temperature, although lower than in summer and in September, is still comfortable: + 23 … + 24 ° C. You can do long swims, and if excitement starts, jump on the waves near the shore. Be sure to bring sunscreen and… a warm sweater. After all, autumn makes itself felt in the evenings. At night, the thermometer can drop to plus sixteen degrees. nine0003
Middle of the month
The weather in Mallorca in the second decade of October can remain as idyllic as in the first. But bad weather can also come. The probability of rain is greater in the mountains of Tramontana, which is in the north of the island. Leave the resorts of Formentor and Port de Soller for day trips. It is beautiful and interesting there, but in mid-October it is windy, rainy, and fog creeps in the gorges. The temperature during the day, especially on the east and south coasts, is still conducive to a beach holiday. The air during the day warms up to twenty-four in the shade. The sea cools more slowly, and its temperature remains within 23 degrees Celsius. But after a storm passes, the water can become unexpectedly cold due to the currents. For swimming, you should choose secluded bays, of which there are many from the southwest to the southeast of the island of Mallorca. It is best to stay in Santa Ponsa, Paguera, Magaluf, Arenal, Cala Millor, Alcudia. nine0003
Holidays in Mallorca at the end of October
During this period, autumn is already beginning to fully come into its own. This is especially felt in the evening and at night. The thermometer can drop to plus five degrees, and in the mountains even below zero. Mornings are also very, very fresh, so swimming at dawn or after sunset will not work. But warm things to take with you is a must. Do not forget to grab an umbrella as well – Mallorca in October can meet you with a drizzle, or even a downpour. But, despite the increase in precipitation, there are quite a lot of sunny days. Then the air warms up to twenty-three degrees. It is quite possible to settle on the beach and sunbathe from noon to three in the afternoon. But to make a long swim is unlikely to succeed. A sea temperature of twenty-one degrees will satisfy only hardened people. But you can take a dip in the cool waters. nine0003
What to do in Mallorca in October
The coolness that comes to the Balearic Islands in mid-autumn makes it possible to combine a beach holiday with an educational one. Unlike summer, a tourist does not need to overpower his body to embark on a journey through the hot Mallorca for sightseeing. Despite the official end of the beach season, tour desks are working at full capacity. And you can rent a car or use the well-established public transport to make independent trips. Families with children and young people at this time are becoming few. Their place is taken by pensioners from Western Europe, who are interested in Mallorca in October not as an opportunity to swim and sunbathe, but to see its sights. Feel free to go to Valldemosa, where Chopin spent the winter in the ancient monastery. No vagaries of the weather will spoil the excursion to the Dragon’s Cave (in Porto Cristo) or Cuevas del Art with the largest stalagmite in the world (in Canyamel). nine0003
Events in Mallorca in the middle of autumn
It may seem incredible, but this island also hosts Oktoberfest. This is done to please the German pensioners, who are firmly established in the Balearic archipelago (Spain). Mallorca in October is also famous for the Tango Festival. Many great dancers not only from Spain, but also from Argentina and other countries come to the island to demonstrate their skills and give master classes. Gourmets are also not ignored. It is in October that the Tapas Festival takes place in Mallorca. Famous Spanish appetizers – from toasted slices of bread with soft sausage, paprika and honey to huge pans of paella – will be offered for tasting to all visitors of this mouth-watering event.
