Weather records fall across Europe as historic warm spell hits

At least seven countries saw thousands of temperature records broken as a strong heat dome descended on Europe on New Year’s Day.
Between Saturday and Monday – as the old year was being ushered out to make way for a new year, temperatures soared from 18 to 36 degrees Fahrenheit (10 to 20 Celsius) from France to western Russia, according to the Washington Post.
The extreme warm spell followed a record-warm year in many parts of Europe and provided yet another example of how human-caused climate change is increasing the frequency and intensity of such extraordinary weather events.
PBS.org is reporting that skiing meccas – like Innsbruck in Austria, Villars-Sur-Ollon, and Crans-Montana in Switzerland, and Germany’s Lenggries – are not looking like winter wonderlands. Instead, large patches of grass, rock, and dirt are visible, reviving concerns about temperature upheaval linked to climate change.
The numbers are astounding. Warsaw, Poland, recorded a high temperature Sunday of 18.9°C, which shattered January’s old all-time monthly temperature record there by a 5.1-degree margin. Warsaw’s seasonal high for the first day of the year hovers just above the freezing mark. Source – The Weather Network
The start to 2023 picked up where many countries had already left off: Last year was the hottest on record in both Switzerland and France. Germany had nearly 950 records broken from December 30 to January 2. Only Norway, Britain, Ireland, Italy, and the southeast Mediterranean posted no records this weekend.
Alex Burkill, a senior meteorologist at the Met Office, agreed it was an extreme weather event. “It’s been extreme heat across a huge area, which is almost, to be honest, unheard of,” he said, reports The Guardian.
Burkill said a warm air mass that developed off the west coast of Africa had traveled north-east across Europe from Portugal and Spain, pulled in by high pressure over the Mediterranean.
Meteorologist Scott Duncan said the temperatures across Europe were staggering. “We had a very warm new year last year but this blows that out of the water,” he said. “We observed longstanding records broken by large margins across several countries.”

MotoGP 2020 – Countdown: If Tomorrow Grand Prix
One week until the long MotoGP debut weekend at the Circuito de Jerez! You have probably already read on MOTOR RACE. RU about how different philosophies of motor building compete with each other, and what role tires play today. If there was a King class race in Qatar, it would have been won by Yamaha. But the forced 4-month pause due to quarantine gave the rivals time for a thorough analysis of the situation. So, if the race took place right tomorrow?
nineJuly 6, 2020 Yamaha and Suzuki new perspectives.
More about it at MOTO RACE.RU: Technology – V4 or inline four – all the pros and cons and How Michelin is changing the rules of the game in Moto Grand Prix.

But after the IRTA tests in Losail, the main players didn’t change: Honda homologated its prototypes right in Qatar, putting an end to the development program; Yamaha, Suzuki and Ducati had to submit all documentation by May 1; finally, KTM and Aprilia received a delay to complete the work until June 29th. What could help factory teams racing V4 powered prototypes to regain their edge? nine0005
Michelin is in constant contact with the factory engineers, and Piero Taramasso, the French company’s MotoGP project manager, knows that Honda and Ducati have been studying the date all these months. And they managed to uncover the secret of how to make the RC213V and Desmosedici more compliant with the new PowerSlick.
In an interview Taramasso gave a month ago, he pointed out two key features of the new tires – a significantly improved grip level and, as a result, more chassis setup options. The main consequence of all this is that in order to extract the maximum speed, now the prototypes should be driven – smoother, and this is the forte of Yamaha and Suzuki! Honda and Ducati need to be handled aggressively, putting a lot of effort into handling powerful engines, especially when exiting corners. nine0005

“I’m sure Honda and Ducati have since found a solution and will be able to properly adapt to the new tires,” says Taramasso. – We will have an enchanting start to the championship, because for Michelin the main task is to satisfy the needs of all plants, and not just one or two. And we have been in contact with them [Honda and Ducati] all this time, helping them with analytics. Today, all attention is focused on specific tracks and races scheduled for specific dates. The weather, the temperature – that’s what will decide what settings and what tires the pilots and their teams choose.” nine0005
A feature of the Spanish Grand Prix and the next double on the same track – the Andalusian Grand Prix will be extremely high temperatures: in July the south of Andalusia is a real hell, and in sunny weather the asphalt can warm up to + 52-54 degrees .
“The difference with May temperatures will be 10-15 degrees, and this is critical: our date, collected over the years of testing and racing in Jerez, will not be 100% up to date. But using special software, we can conduct simulations and imagine how certain tires will work in given conditions. According to these data, it is enough for teams to increase the stiffness of the compound by 1 step. I don’t think there will be any difficulties in the tests on Wednesday. ” nine0005

In years past, this meant better braking stability and better power transfer. Circuito de Jerez is considered a stop-n-go track, like Le Mans, where you often have to brake very hard and then open the gas just as hard. Cornering in Jerez is mostly slow for 1000cc prototypes, and braking is key. But then you have to compensate for the drop in speed – with the dynamics of acceleration: whoever has better power transfer to asphalt is in the black. nine0005
MotoGP SpanishGP – Spanish Grand Prix 2019 go to photo gallery smooth asphalt, which has already matured – and the holding has become larger. This means that Yamaha pilots will no longer waste time accelerating. The pace that Fabio Quartararo and Franco Morbidelli showed on last year’s tires on the customer Yamaha YZR-M1s shows that they were already well at home on the new surface. Rossi and Viñales took a little longer, but they ended up finishing the race faster than they had the year before. nine0005

Suzuki has the most nimble and precise chassis that provides perfect, even slightly oversteer. When it’s hot, fighting a motorcycle is more exhausting than usual. At an air temperature of + 32-34 (as in Sepang and Thailand), the body loses a lot of fluid, the blood thickens, oxygen metabolism deteriorates – concentration and reaction decrease. Lighter motorcycles will give riders more freedom. nine0234 Young, strong riders – Alex Rins and Joan Mir will be able to fully reveal the potential of their motorcycles this weekend.
On the other hand, if Honda and Ducati got the Michelin signals right, their pilots might not have to push themselves harder than usual. Of course, if Marquez and Dovizioso can change their style in a couple of days of preparation for the Grand Prix.
In any case, everyone will have a second attempt – the Andalusian Grand Prix, in order to draw the right conclusions from the results of the race, which will take place on 19July.

INEOS Britannia heads offshore, while Patriot has a foggy encounter
No further developments from the late entry French K-Challenge. An announcement will be made in Paris, on February 2 by the team and their challenging club Societe Nautique de Saint-Tropez.
INEOS Britannia – LEQ12 – Mallorca – January 31, 2023 – Day 18
Top sailing journalist, Justin Chisholm was on the water and made various observations:
With a complex weather scenario in play on Palma Bay today – which involved northerly gradient breezes being negated by a nascent sea breeze created by warm sunshine and clear blue skies heating up the Mallorca landmass – INEOS Britannia’s meteorological advisors called for an offshore day out side the confines of the bay.
A scheduled 1200 dockout was delayed until 1315 due to technical issues we believe to have been related to the pair of GPS aerials on the British LEQ12’s stern quarters. Once out of the harbour and mainsail hoisted the T6 test boat was towed south for 30 minutes at 20 knots out into the open waters of the Mediterranean.
Conditions outside the bay comprised 9 knots of wind from 240 to 260 with a bumpy unpleasant seastate made up of a characteristic Mallorca short steep chop overlaid with a half metre swell. Not ideal conditions for foiling perhaps but the British crew – helmsmen Ben Ainslie and Giles Scott, with flight controllers/trimmers Leigh McMillan and Luke Parkinson (who swapped out for Iain Jensen during the session) – made the best of them to rack up plenty of flying time during a 50 nautical mile day.
Take offs were mostly self-generated but there were a few tow ups during lighter patches of breeze. The crew started the day with a series of take offs, shore one minute or less flights, followed quickly by another takeoff. The team’s coach Rob Wilson said this ‘circuits and bumps’ session was a planned take-off practice session.
Later in the day there were several extended foiling runs with multiple foiling tacks and gybes – some clean and others involving touch downs.
The only issue the team encountered was a break required to fix an issue with the J1 (used all day) halliard lock which had rleased itself while the boat was in flight. With the sun only just above the horizon at 1715 the breeze finally began to fade, putting paid to chances of anymore foiling.
Sails were dropped shortly afterwards before a long (10 nm) tow back to port.
After the session team coach, Rob Wilson gave his prespective on the day.
“We’re still in this tricky weather pattern down here in Palma. So we’ve got Northeasterlies/Northwesterlies. It was actually warm today. Earlier on, we had 15-16 degrees that we were signed to get a little bit of a sea breeze up near Palma . So with the northwesterly fighting the southwesterly we thought we’d cut our losses, in the end . And so it was a half hour tow to outside the bay, and we got some really good sailing in.”
He described the sea state as “a half metre swell and then a bit of a tricky chop on top of that. So you know, it certainly made the takeoffs a lot harder. And then, the whole control side more difficult in a straight line. It was really nice, it felt like a sort of scaled down Barcelona day. So it was good to be out there.”
Justin Chisholm asked Wilson to explain one of the Brits training routines where “we saw the boat doing a few short flights and then dropping off the foils and then just 30 seconds later another flight and then down again. Was that a deliberate kind of let’s practice takeoffs at a certain angle?”
“Yes, that was part of the day,” Wilson responded. “It’s just to check in on the takeoffs so yeah, we you know, get the boat up to speed and then we’re just bringing it down again. It’s quite useful exercise.”
“What did you learn about the boat sailing in those conditions, it’s obvious to draw a parallel with what we’re hearing about Barcelona,” Chisholm asked.
“We will have to have a look at the data and sort of dig into that side of it,” Wilson replied. “There’s lots of little pieces you’re learning on all of these days, how the boat reacts in the flat water and in the sea state, and I wouldn’t say it’s one major thing, but sort of sum of lots of little things. “
Rob Wilson said they were pleased with the way T6, as the British test boat is known, was taking off – both unassisted in 8-9kts of wind and under tow in lighter winds.
“Especially in that [difficult] sea state, which effectively makes it harder to take off. It’s probably equivalent of a sort of eight knot, wind speed day. We were getting between by between five knots and probably 12 knots today in total.
American Magic – AC75 Version 2 – Pensacola – January 31, 2023 – Day 41
From the AC37 Joint Recon Team:
Patriot sailed inshore today, covered approximately 11 nm, comprised of 2 W/L legs.
Three headsails were loaded into the support RIB, one was used. Sailing began at 1342hrs Patriot completed two maneuvers and ended sailing at 1417hrs. Patriot had a total flying time of 12 Minutes. Top speeds could not accurately be measured due to the short duration of the sailing.
VIP’s were observed on board the chase boats today including: Tom Whidden, Gary Jobson, and members of the DeVos family.
A brief attempt was made to get some hours in but, the breeze never filled in consistently today. The fog was intermittent as well.
Today’s sailing efforts were likely for the benefit of the spectators.
This was the second day in which Patriot had encountered fog at Pensacola and had their training session impacted by it.
Patriot is not expected to roll out tomorrow Wednesday Feb 1, 2023.
After the session Mike Petersen of the AC37 Joint Recon team asked Michael Menninger, a Flight Controller and Sail Trimmer on board Patriot for his take on the day.
“It was good. We struggled to find some breeze. But we managed to get up and get a little bit of sailing. So it was a positive day and we tried to get as much out of it as we could. But we didn’t have great breeze.
“We’re trying to squeeze, as much knowledge we can with the remaining days we have on Patriot because it’s coming to a close soon.”
The session then turned into a school on flight control and sail trimming, including whether the two roles could be combined.
“With regard to light control, how much adjustment is needed to the foil flaps once you’re in flight?” Petersen asked.
“It depends on the seastate, it depends on the variability in the breeze, it depends on a lot of things. But as a flight controller, you’re trying to be as consistent and smooth as possible, just to avoid using as much of the flaps and the elevator as possible.”
“Can you tell us the difference between low flight and high flight? And when do you use the different modes?” Petersen asked
“It’s just how high you want to fly,” Menninger responded. “And I guess that could be another sea state, different moding option – the higher the sea state and the bigger the difference between the troughs and the crests, you may want to fly a little bit lower, just so you don’t get as much tip breaching.”
“Is flight control a full time job, or could it be combined with sail trim and/or cycling?” Petersen asked.
“That’s a good question”, Menninger replied. “That’s something that we’re, trying to ask ourselves and know a lot of other teams are asking as well. It’s going to be a long process to learn how we can be good at kind of melding those two skills together. This is an ongoing thing that we’re working on.”
“When we’re sailing offshore, and in a rougher sea state, do you tend to try to err on the side of a low flight mode for safety? Petersen asked.
“It really depends how the boats setting up and what type of foil you may have on,” Menninger explained. “When we get to the America’s Cup, it’s going to be interesting to see how all the different teams choose to mode their boats through the sea state.”
“People might choose different foils. They might choose to sail different cant angles, ride heights, etc. I think the sea state brings a certain dynamic piece to the sailing, and that I think teams will be able to make different choices and have different platforms.”
“And just with a few days remaining, sailing Patriot in this session, what will the team specifically be trying to get out of the boat?” Petersen asked.
“We’re just trying to end on a high note. Just trying to wrap up this sailing, and our highest priorities put behind us and moving on to the AC 40,” was Menninger’s reply.

As winter begins to recede, Spain enters holiday mode. Each new month brings more fun and February is no exception. The most interesting festivals in Spain in February:
Moors against Christians
This amazing festival is one of the oldest and most spectacular in Spain. Dancing, amazing parades are waiting for you during the six days of the holiday. In February, this holiday can be seen in the city of Bocairent, Valencia province. Date: every year on the first Friday of February.
Carnivals in Tenerife and Cadiz
February in Spain is the beginning of the carnival season. Local carnivals easily compete with Brazilian ones. World famous carnivals take place in Tenerife and Cadiz. Colorful processions and extravagant costumes, incendiary music and enchanting atmosphere are waiting for you. Carnival begins with the election of a queen. During this competition, the spectators and the jury observe the stunning beauty of the costumes specially designed for the carnival. Charming girls sometimes wear costumes that can weigh up to a hundred kilograms. There are many dance and singing competitions. In Tenerife, the carnival ends with the burial of the sardine. Papier-mache fish is transported through the streets of Santa Cruz to the coast and burned there. All celebrations are completed by magnificent fireworks. Don’t miss the chance to take part in the most colorful and crazy outdoor party!
Tenerife 2019 dates: 24 February to 10 March. Dates for 2019 in Cadiz: 28 February to 10 March.
Tip: If you plan to visit the carnivals in Tenerife and Cadiz, then book your hotels in advance. There may be no seats left for the start of the event.
Madrid Gastronomy Festival
The Gastronomic Festival starts approximately from the third week of January to the first week of February. During this period, Madrid is a real feast of Spanish culinary culture. Restaurants and tapas bars located throughout Madrid offer a wide range of national and international cuisine. Cocktail bars, restaurants, museums and art galleries contribute to the city’s gastronomic celebration. Date: from January 23 to February 10, 2019.
Travel to Spain in February
If you are determined to visit Spain in February, be prepared to “cool off” in the literal sense of the word. This is one of the coldest months of the year throughout the country, when the weather is not particularly friendly.
Spain in February in the northern mountains is the height of the ski season, and along the Atlantic coast the weather is wet, cold and windy. In the inner central regions, including in Madrid, it is very dank and cold. Tourists looking for the warm rays of the sun can safely rely on the southern and eastern coasts of the Mediterranean Sea: there will be enough of them to bask in their overflowing warmth. However, it will still be cool for sunbathing.
Andalusia is probably the warmest part of Spain in February with moderate temperatures and plenty of sunshine. Here the weather is delightful for enjoying it in a summer cafe right under the open sky.

Weather in Spain in February
With a wide variety of climatic regions, from mild Mediterranean to extreme continental, the weather in mainland Spain in February depends mainly on where you are going. But in general, it is frosty, and in most areas it is the driest month of the winter.
In southern Andalusia temperatures can rise to high Celsius. In February, there are 6 rainy days and a large amount of sunshine – on average, 6 clear hours of sunshine out of 10 daily hours.
Madrid freezes over in February, as it is the highest European capital, which is directly reflected in its weather conditions. Rains happen often: about one day out of three is overcast. The maximum temperature in Madrid is 12°C, often falling below freezing at night.
Barcelona is warmer, but slightly warmer, with highs and lows of 14°C and 5°C respectively. There is a chance of occasional showers, but most of the month the skies in Barcelona are blue and clear.
Spain’s wettest provinces, Galicia and Asturias, located in the northwest of the country, are characterized by only heavy rains this month.
What happens in Spain in February
Despite the fact that the weather in February in Spain is not the most pleasant, the fervor from the country’s legendary festivals remains as hot as ever. The best festival in February is the Carnival of Sitges in Catalonia – a wild but amazing gay event that draws revelers of all persuasions and morals into its celebration, from a magnificent banquet to colorful parades and entertainment events.
Carnival in Sitges is not for the faint hearted
Seville in February is simply addictive for tasting Tapas, a traditional light Spanish snack served with alcoholic drinks in local bars. And in Barcelona at this time, the music “flows like water” at the Festa de Santa Eulalia (in mid-February).
Festa de Santa Eulalia
What to bring?
For those who are looking for the warm sun on the Mediterranean coast of Spain in February, shorts and open legs can still get away with it. However, in the evening you can not do without jeans and a jacket. In other areas of the country, the coat is a priority of the first importance. And no matter where exactly you are traveling – an umbrella, water-repellent outerwear and waterproof shoes can suddenly come in handy despite the fact that it is a relatively dry month.
In Spain, the winter only in the northern and central regions resembles the Russian one. Frost and snow are possible here. In Madrid, for example, during the day the average temperature is around 12 degrees, and at night it drops to 4°C. True, snowfalls and frosts are possible here, but the total number of days on which precipitation falls does not exceed six.
And the warmest weather in Spain pleases the south-east of the country. For example, in Cartagena, the daytime temperature is kept at 17 degrees, and the nighttime temperature is around 5°C. In the same temperature limits, the temperature is kept in the south of Spain, for example, in Malaga and the Costa del Sol. During the day it is 18 ° C, and at night – 8 degrees. As in Madrid, the number of rainy days here is about six.
But the most cloudless and sunniest region in Spanish February is the Costa Blanca region and Valencia itself as such. Here, there are only four rainy days for 15 clear days. And the air temperature here is kept within the limits characteristic of the south of Spain (16/6 degrees).
If we talk about bathing, then in February it is still impossible to talk about the possibility of a full-fledged reception of water procedures. The average water temperature is only 13°C. The exception is Malaga, which is about 17 degrees. At the resorts of Costa Brava and Costa Dorada, which are favored by Russian tourists, the situation is the same. Here, not only the water is cold, but the air is relatively cool – only 14 degrees during the day and up to 15 ° C at night. But there is little precipitation in this area – 33 mm.
Nevertheless, the not too warm February weather in Spain makes it possible to get to know the country, its culture and traditions better, for example, to see flamenco. Moreover, in different cities of Spain, the manner of performance will be different. Now there are four main schools of flamenco in Spain – in Jerez, Madrid, Granada and Seville. Dancers and dancers perform in special venues called tablaos. If necessary, a ticket can be purchased in advance, although the influx of tourists in February is still small, so there will be no problems with tickets on the day of the performance.
But at the end of the month, the number of tourists increases significantly, because at this time Spain is immersed in the atmosphere of carnivals taking place in different cities. There is no specific start date for carnival processions, as it depends on when Easter was. Carnivals in Cadiz and Madrid are considered the most impressive. Cadiz is very close in spirit to the carnival in Rio de Janeiro. You can look at all the carnival processions absolutely free of charge, but if you want to watch them, sitting in chairs placed on both sides of the street along which the procession will move, you will have to pay.
In terms of weather, February in Spain contributes to visiting such a bright and unforgettable holiday that takes place as part of the Carnival week as the Carnival of the Bulls in Ciudad Rodrigo (Castile). During the action, you can see running with bulls, bullfights and masquerade processions.
With the onset of February frosts, it is very difficult to resist the temptation to leave for warm countries. There are a lot of options – the choice is limited only by the state of the wallet. But it should be borne in mind that in many places at the end of winter there is still a low season, i.e. a beach holiday is out of the question. In our case, on the island of Mallorca, February is a good month for sightseeing. The weather conditions at this time are quite comfortable, especially in comparison with our harsh winters.

Sky over Mallorca
February can hardly be called the most cloudless month in Mallorca. Clear days are issued from the strength of 5-10. Most of the month it is partly cloudy or cloudy (about 10 days). February is a rainy month, precipitation can fall 1-3 times. It is worth warning that in cloudy weather the colors of Mallorca fade, and the island itself ceases to seem fabulous.

During a week stay on the island, you can get acquainted with its main attractions. Actually, February limits tourists only in beach activities:
this time is convenient for excursions in Mallorca, because “winter” tourists are rarely found here.

Where does this data come from
Weather data for Benidorm was collected from the MERRA-2 project from NASA, which used a climate model combined with historical data from weather stations around the world to estimate what the conditions were like for every point on the Earth.
For all data based on historical data, we’ve averaged the data from the past 11 years (2010-2020). For example, for the hourly temperature at 10am, we’ve looked at the temperature at 10am on every day in July (e.g., July 1, July 2, etc. in 2010, 2011, etc.) and took the arithmetic mean. We did not smooth the data, so for example, our daily temperature line will have some randomness due to the fact that weather is random in the first place.

17 best things to do in Benidorm
Benidorm hasn’t always had the best reputation. Many people think of it as Britain in the sunshine; British pubs, karaoke bars, football shirt-wearing tourists, lads on stag parties, pensioners on mobility scooters…the destination is synonymous with the “Brits abroad†stereotype. It’s such a stereotype that there’s even a TV sitcom with the same name. While Benidorm does have those things, there’s so much more to the city than that. Visit Benidorm invited me to explore…

Great prices on hotels, homes and everything in between.
Many people refuse to run just because the activity seems boring and outrageously monotonous. If you are one of them, we hasten to dissuade you of this belief. Make sure running can be a fun and original fitness experience by checking out our selection of the most unusual, fun and extreme running activities from around the world.
Blue Trail Run – Tenerife Island (Canary Islands, Spain)
Perhaps one of the most difficult and dangerous running routes in the world. Runners start at sea level and then rise to 3,500 meters to run through stunning volcanic landscapes until they reach the summit of Mount Teide, Spain’s highest point. Even athletes with limited mobility can take part in such an event – for them there are special distances ranging from 4 to 97 km.
Information ─ Tenerife Bluetrail
Chocolate Run ─ San Francisco, Chicago, Houston (USA)
The sweetest 15K race in the world. It is chocolate, ranging from chocolate bars that are distributed to participants throughout the distance, ending with chocolate medals that go to the winners. At the same time, you should not worry about the harm and excess weight ─ chocolate is low-calorie and natural.
Information ─ Hot Chocolate Run
Walt Disney Marathon ─ Orlando (USA)
A marathon that can be called truly magical. Every year, thousands of runners from all over the world gather at Walt Disney Park in Orlando to feel like they’re in a fairy tale. Participants of the race overcome the distance together with Disney cartoon characters and often try on the image of their favorite characters. Real magic!
Information ─ Walt Disney World Marathon
Color Run or “the happiest 5000 meters on the planet” ─ worldwide
The idea behind the most colorful race in the world is as simple as possible: start in white and finish in color (the more colors the better). Throughout the course, runners are sprinkled with cornstarch coloring powder. There are no winners in the event, and the main prize is positive emotions and new acquaintances. The event takes place several times a year in different parts of the world, including Russia – join us!
Information ─ Color Run
Medoc Wine Marathon ─ Bordeaux (France)
Traditionally held in September, the marathon in the Medoc region of France, famous for its wine and gourmet cuisine, is very unusual. Participants of the event run among ancient castles, architectural monuments and vineyards, and also have the opportunity to enjoy wine and French cuisine at 23 food points located on the track. You can also refresh yourself with fresh fruits, expensive cheese and a variety of delicacies. Not a competition, but just a gastronomic set! nine0003
Information ─ Marathon du Medoc
Extreme Race “Run for Life” ─ Dublin (Ireland)
A 5 km race with unusual obstacles in the form of blood, zombies and other monsters is more like a quest. Before the start, each participant receives a belt with three flags, which must be kept until the end of the test. The task of the participants is to get to the finish line without letting the zombies steal the flags and force you to go off the track. The runners who reach the finish line are awarded with commemorative medals, which are really valuable after the passed test. nine0003
Information ─ Run for Your Life
Active Weekends by Aqua Minerale Active ─ Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan (Russia)
Our country is trying to keep up with world standards of originality. A series of eight running excursions (yes, exactly excursions) has been launched, in which both beginners and advanced runners can take part. Here, in the process of passing the distance, you can learn the history of the Kremlin (both Moscow and Kazan), listen to historical musical ikhits and learn their history, admire the masterpieces of architecture. “Cognitive” cardio training was held in late July-early August 2018 in the open air in the company of professional guides, under the guidance of professional trainers from the I Love Supersport running school. In total, 24 running routes were developed, including over 40 locations in these cities. nine0003

Dmitry
I am glad to welcome you to the vastness of my modest profile! If you are reading this text, then we are already close to exploring Tenerife together, but first, let me introduce myself and tell you a little about myself!
My name is Dmitry, and my last name is too famous to be called)
I was born and raised in the cultural capital of Russia, St. Petersburg. He graduated from the State University of Culture and Arts with a degree in tourism and hotel management, apparently this predetermined my future fate, because for more than 10 years I have been a resident and live in the Canary Islands, on the island of Tenerife. From the first day I fell in love with these heavenly places, I am impressed by their nature, culture, lifestyle and cuisine, and the climate is just fantastic. All these features are also noted by the families of vacationers, whom I help to get to know our island better and look at it from the side of the local population. nine0003
The main profile of my activity is the organization of author’s, individual tours around the island of Tenerife. There are important aspects that are of the highest priority within the framework of our relationship with you, during excursion days:
• I am sincerely open and positive, which allows us to make our communication as friendly and mutually comfortable as possible
• From experience, I think that temporary framing and timing is a leftover from group tours and is disrespectful to guests, so I always let my tourists enjoy each location in a completely free time mode
• Your impressions and emotions are extremely important to me, in our travels there will be no memorized phrases or conveyor-type jokes, I prefer targeted dialogues to highlight aspects that are important for you
• Author’s programs and routes developed by me adapt to interests each individual family or company. This is creativity that will always leave a bright mark on the aftertaste of travel
Over a fairly long, and most importantly productive period of time, I managed to help more than 1000 families and individual travelers in organizing holidays, with most of whom we maintain good friendly relations and after them holidays. Your emotions and your comfort are the best reward and appreciation of my work, which is why I try to find an individual approach to each vacationer and adapt to your wishes and interests, because only in this case your vacation will be remembered for a lifetime. Also, in order to be able to provide you with the highest level of service, I work in conjunction with a team of professionals, and the same people who are in love with Tenerife without memory. nine0003
Whatever your wishes: excursions or selection of accommodation for a vacation, transfer or photo shoots, organization of a wedding or a romantic dinner, or maybe you decide to fly on a paraglider for the first time, or cut the surface of the ocean with the propellers of a jet ski motor – everything will be done at the highest level and all the nuances will be taken into account.
See you in Tenerife!!! Sincerely yours, Dmitry!

What Plug Adapter Do You Need for Israel? – Trip Memos
Planning a trip to Israel and not sure about outlets, plugs, adapters, and converters? I prepared a detailed guide with photos which will help you pack the right adapter/converter for your trip – and save your appliances.
The short answer is:
Visiting from the US or Canada, you need a device that’s both a plug adapter specifically made for Israel AND a voltage converter. Coming from Europe or other countries that have 220-230 voltage systems, you only need a simple plug converter.
Don’t worry, it’s really not that complicated and I’m going to help you out by providing links to the exact products you need to get from Amazon. In fact, in case you’re in a rush, here they are.
If you come from a country with 110 voltage system (such as the USA), buy this model (Amazon link):
Voltage Converter & Adapter from 220V to 110V with 4 Smart USB Charging Ports :
It comes with several plug adapters, including one that will work in Israel.
If you come from a European country with a voltage span of 220-240, you only need a plug adapter like these (Amazon link):
If you have a few minutes and are looking to learn more, keep on reading.
Plug adapter vs. voltage converter – what are they and which do you need?
Adapters and converters are different things. You may need just the one or both – rolled into a single device.
What’s a plug adapter?
The shape of electrical outlets or sockets varies across the globe. Strangely enough, in 2018, humanity still hasn’t decided on a single type of socket. In fact, according to Wikipedia –
Electrical plugs and sockets differ from one another in voltage and current rating, shape, size, and connector type. Different systems of plugs and sockets have been standardized, and different standards are used in different parts of the world.
Which means travelers need to adapt to local settings. Using adapters, at the very least.
Adapters are simply a way to get electricity from an outlet with a different shape into your device. Nothing more.
If you’re coming from the US, Canada, and most other countries, you would need an adapter just so that you can plug something into an Israeli outlet.
What plugs are used in Israel?
This is what outlets in Israel look like –
And these are the plugs that match them –
If your plugs look like this, you’re set. This may be the case if you’re from Italy or a few other European countries (though not most).
If your plugs look different, you need a way to make your plug fit into an Israeli socket. The adapter itself is a very simple (but don’t buy it just yet if you’re from Canada or the US!):
Here’s a link to buy this on Amazon – if this is all you need.
But is that all you need? Hold your horses and let’s talk about converters.
What’s a Voltage Converter?
Voltage is generally defined as the difference in electric potential between two potential between two points. For our needs, it’s essentially the tension or force of electric current coming out of the outlet.
Israel uses a 220v voltage system across the country. So do most European countries.
The US and Canada use a 110-120v system.
Some electric appliances are suited for use in both systems. Others will only work well in one in one of the systems.
If you have electric appliances that run only on 110-120 volts then a simple adapter won’t be enough. An adapter only handles the shape of the plug – you need something that will convert the current as well.
And that’s the voltage converter.
These are larger and heavier than simple plug adapters and they usually have several sockets, allowing you to use multiple appliances. You can find a variety of these in Amazon. Planned with travelers in mind, they offer a few plug adapters as well. The problem is finding one that’s a good fit for Israel. This one is the only one I could find, offering both a converter and a plug adapter for Israel:
Voltage Converter & Adapter from 220V to 110V with 4 Smart USB Charging Ports :
As you can see, it comes with five different plug adapters, so they have you covered pretty much anywhere around the globe.
What happens if you plug a 110v appliance into the Israeli 220v system without a converter?
If you plug in a US-bought appliance into an Israeli socket – using the simple adapter – you could end up damaging it.
It’s worth noting that some appliances are actually already adapted for both 220v and 110v systems. Check yours to see if it is. If so, you can use a simple adapter and safely plug it into an Israeli socket.
However, if your electric thingie wasn’t built to deal with 220volts – it will burn off. I don’t mean literally go on fire – although that too is a real risk. Most likely, whatever engine it has will just heat up and stop working.
Tried and tested.
We bought a cat fountain on our last visit to the US. Brought it back home, filled it up and plugged it into the Israeli system. We should have known better – I blame jet lag! It seemed to be working ok but the following morning the pump was dead.
To avoid that, you simply must use a voltage converter as well as an adapter.
So, if you’re asking yourself “Can I plug my iPhone into 220v and charge it in Israel?” the answer is –
Only if you use a converter.
And I’m mentioning iPhones here because people destroy their expensive Apple chargers for making the mistake of using a simple adapter without a converter. And here’s another tip for you –
iPhone chargers are very expensive in Israel. Plus, the one you’ll buy here won’t work well with the American system once you get back home. Keep your iPhone charger safe and use a good converter when visiting Israel.
What happens if you plug a 220v appliance into the American 110v system without a converter?
Ahh, I can tell you the answer to that one from experience as well.
Whatever you’re using, will work – but much less effectively. That’s actually the case whether or not you use a converter. These appliances need 220v and they won’t be getting them from the American system.
If you plug in an “Israeli” electric kettle into an American outlet, it’s going to take ages to boil water. If you try the same with a hair dryer, you’ll get a measly blow of warm air coming out. It’s like an astronaut walking on the moon – everything just becomes lighter and weaker.
Only in Israel?
Here’s the thing.
The plug shape is pretty much an Israeli thing. As far as I know, only Italy and Russia use a similar socket/plug shape.
As for current – most countries in the world use the 220-230v system. Canada and the US are the exceptions – using 110v.
So, when you invest in buying a quality adapter-and-converter-in-one, it will serve you during your trips across the globe. A worthwhile investment for sure!
Heading Overseas? A Guide to Choosing the Right Travel Adapter
If you’ve ever felt like half your suitcase was taken up by electronics when you travel, you’re not alone. More and more of us are taking our laptops and phones, our Kindles and cameras, our hair straighteners and shavers… and a bag full of chargers to power them all.
As the old saying goes, however, you can’t put a square peg in a round hole, and that’s as true for power sockets as anything else.
With around 15 different plugs and sockets in use around the world, there’s a good chance that if you’re packing for an overseas trip, you’ll need to include a travel adapter.
How on earth did we get here? When you buy a gadget in Spain, why can you plug it into the wall in Austria, but not a few miles down the road in Switzerland? Most importantly, how do you make sure you can power your gear in whatever country you’re traveling to?
Why so Many Plugs and Sockets?
When electricity was first introduced to homes at the end of the 19th century, devices had to be cabled directly into the house wiring. As more domestic appliances came along in the 20th century, however, manufacturers realized there needed to be an easier way to connect them.
Here’s when things got messy. Each country looked for their own solution to the problem, and because few people traveled internationally, nobody much cared whether those solutions were compatible with each other. The end result was the disorganized mess of plugs and sockets we’ve ended up with today.
By the time organizations like the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) tried to standardize the plugs, it was too late. World War II stopped the effort in its tracks, and the issue was abandoned until the 1950s.
Countries had most of their electrical infrastructure set up by that point, which made replacing their plugs and sockets very difficult. Manufacturers weren’t bothered either, as most were focused only on serving their local markets.
That kind of inertia also helps why wobbly plugs with uninsulated prongs are still used in North America and Japan. They’re ancient in terms of design, not to mention notoriously unsafe, but it’s nobody’s priority to try to replace them.
The Future
Things are unlikely to change any time soon, either. Gabriela Ehrlich, head of communications for the IEC, told Gizmodo the outlook isn’t great. “There are standards, and there is a plug that has been designed. The problem is, really, everyone’s invested in their own system. It’s difficult to get away from that.”
It’s difficult indeed. While those internationally-agreed standards for domestic plugs and sockets have existed since the 1980s, South Africa is the only country to fully adopt them. Even then, it’s going to take 10-20 years to finish switching over.
Since plugs and sockets around the world are unlikely to change any time soon, the only way to plug in your charger while abroad is by using an adapter. But what kind do you need?
Main Plug and Socket Types
To know what kind of adapter you’ll need, you need to figure out what kind of socket is used in the places you’re traveling to.
Below are the main types of plug and wall sockets found around the world, used with permission from WorldStandards.eu. Each combination has an arbitrarily-assigned letter. We’ve listed where they’re most commonly used, but you can find a country-by-country list here.
We’ve included the voltage(s) most frequently used with each socket as well. There’s further discussion of voltage, and why it matters for travelers, at the end of this article.
Type A
USA, Canada, Mexico & Japan Typically 100–127v Socket compatible with plug type A
Type B
USA, Canada, Mexico & Japan Typically 100–1270v Socket compatible with plug type A & B
Type C
Europe, parts of South America & Asia Typically 220–240v Socket compatible with plug type C

Type E
France, Belgium, Poland, Slovakia, & Czechia 220–240v Socket compatible with plug types C, E, & F
Type F
Almost everywhere in Europe & Russia, except for the UK & Ireland 220–240v Socket compatible with plug types C, E & F
Type G
United Kingdom, Ireland, Malta, Malaysia, & Singapore 220–240v Socket compatible with plug type G
Type H
Israel, the West Bank, & the Gaza Strip 220–240v Socket compatible with plug types C & H (safe), E & F (unsafe)
Type I
Australia, New Zealand, China, & Argentina 220–240v Socket compatible with plug type I
Type J
Switzerland & Liechtenstein 220–240v Socket compatible with plug types C & J
Type K
Denmark & Greenland 220–240v Socket compatible with plug types C & K (safe), E & F (unsafe)
Type L
Italy & Chile 220–240v 10A socket compatible with plug types C & L (10 A version), 16A socket compatible with plug type L (16A version)
Type M
South Africa 220–240v Socket compatible with plug type M
Type N
Brazil and South Africa 100–240v Socket compatible with plug type C & N
Type O
Thailand 220–240v Socket compatible with plug types C & O (safe), E & F (unsafe)
As if all that wasn’t complicated enough, bear in mind that some countries use multiple types of power plugs and sockets at once. South Africa is a good example, with two socket types in common use, and a third being rolled out to replace them.
So Which Travel Adapter Do I Need?
Travel adapters come in a ridiculous range of sizes, styles, and weights, with all kinds of extra features. It’s not easy to separate what works from what doesn’t, or even what kind you actually need for the trip you’re taking.
We’ve been using travel adapters for decades, and have thrown out almost as many as we’ve bought. There’s a lot of garbage out there. That said, we’ve occasionally found a rare model that actually does what it’s supposed to, reliably and affordably. You can find our favorites here.
To figure out which one to buy, start by asking yourself two simple questions: where am I going, and what do I need to charge?
Universal vs Single Adapters
If your entire trip is to a country or region that uses one type of power socket, you can probably get away with just buying a simple adapter for that socket. A word of advice: Buy it before you leave rather than waiting until you get to the airport, as it’ll be much cheaper.
When your travels will take you to places with different kinds of wall sockets, however, you’ll likely be better off with a universal travel adapter. Because they tend to be larger than the single adapters, they often have extra features like USB sockets or fuses as well.
Our current universal travel adapter pick is this Unidapt model, but no matter which model you go for, don’t get too excited just yet. Despite being called “universal”, there’s no such thing as an adapter that truly covers every country.
They’ll generally cover you for some combination of the ~150 countries that use North American (A/B), UK (G), European (C/F), Swiss (J), or Australasian (I) sockets. That’s great, as long as you’re going to those destinations.
If your travels take you to places like South Africa, Brazil, or other countries with less-common power sockets, you’ll need to buy separate adapters that specifically cover you there.
Some of the better universal adapters have surge protection or fuses built-in. While their effectiveness varies, they can help keep your devices safe in countries where the electricity supply isn’t very reliable. Power spikes, sags, and surges can easily destroy your electronics.
What About USB?
Once you’ve figured out where you’re going, think about what you’ll be charging while you’re there. It’s increasingly common for travel gadgets to charge via a USB cable, whether that’s a phone or tablet, camera, Kindle, or Bluetooth headphones.
If everything you’re taking can charge from a micro-USB, USB C, or Lightning cable, you’re in luck. Grab a dedicated USB travel adapter like this LENCENT model, which can charge up to four portable devices at once. It has little clip-on connectors for use in 150+ countries.
Some devices require more juice than others to charge at normal speed, so make sure your adapter has enough total and per-port output to handle your needs. For USB-A ports, 12W per port and at least 20W overall is a good place to start, but everyone’s mix of gadgets will be different.
If you’re planning to charge USB C-powered devices at full speed, especially laptops, you’ll need something even better. Check out this Anker USB C travel adapter instead, which has a far higher output, albeit with a higher cost to go with it.
What’s the Story With Voltage?
In case you didn’t have enough to think about, it’s time for a quick chat about voltage. In the simplest of terms, voltage can be compared to water pressure: the higher it is, the faster electricity will move through the wires.
And you guessed it, different countries have incompatible voltages. Because of course they do. At least we don’t have anywhere near as many variations as with plugs and sockets.
In fact, they can be put into just three general groupings: 100 volts (Japan), 110-120 volts (primarily North America and parts of Central and South America,) and 220-240 volts (pretty much everywhere else. )
There are always exceptions and variations, of course. A few countries (like Brazil) even use different voltages in different parts of the country. It pays to do your research!
Is this something to be concerned about? Unfortunately, yes. Plug your 120v hairdryer from the United States into a 230v wall socket in France, and there’s a good chance you’ll blow a fuse, fry the hairdryer, or both.
Voltages don’t directly have anything to do with the type of wall socket. Just because the plug on your appliance fits into a socket overseas doesn’t automatically mean the voltage is the same. Likewise, converting the plug type with a normal travel adapter doesn’t convert the voltage.
All that said, the voltage situation is much better these days than it was in the past, for two reasons.
First, many portable appliances are now designed to handle any common voltage. Check the fine print on your appliance or its charger, and look for a voltage range.
If it says something like 100-240 volts, you’re safe to plug it in wherever your travels take you. Most cameras, laptops, phone chargers, and similar types of device fall into this category.
Things like hairdryers and curling irons often don’t, but if you’re lucky, they may have a small slider that lets you switch between 110-120v and 220-240. That’s great if they do, although make sure you switch it back again before plugging it in when you get home–you won’t get a second chance if you forget
Secondly, the growth of USB-powered devices has helped a lot. Anything like a smartphone, tablet, or Kindle that charges via USB is fine, although you’ll still need to check the details for your USB wall charger itself if you’re using one.
If you discover you’ll have to convert the voltage of something you’re traveling with, you’ve got three choices: leave it behind, find an alternative that can handle a range of voltages, or buy a dedicated voltage converter.
Note that travel-sized voltage converters can handle smaller gadgets like electric toothbrushes, but typically aren’t designed for high-draw appliances like hair dryers.

Conclusion
Having so many different plugs and socket types is inconvenient and costly, according to the IEC. So is replacing sockets and plugs in an entire nation, however, and it’s also a lot of work that most countries really aren’t interested in doing. It’s much easier to just make you buy an adapter instead.
While most countries won’t change their plugs and sockets any time soon, there is some hope on the horizon. USB power and hybrid sockets that can accommodate multiple types of plug are becoming more common, especially in hotels, and wireless charging also helps make things a little easier for travelers.
