Los Cristianos Tenerife, Spain – apartments
The resort of Los Cristianos – is one of the most interesting pages in the history of the Canary Islands. Imagine a fishing village on the shores of the endless ocean. Nets are drying on the shore. Near the picturesque huts, there are poles on which salted tuna, cut into plates, hangs. Occasionally, small merchant ships enter the antediluvian port. They bring tobacco, textiles and newspapers from the continent. This was, just forty years ago, the richest and most luxurious resort of Los Cristianos Tenerife today. All the beauty and romance described above can be seen only at restaurants located on the shore, and serving their guests with fresh sea delicacies. There is also a small stock exchange. Guests of the island are offered to go on night fishing, boat trips or escapades to the neighboring islands – Las Palmas, El Hierro and La Gomera.
Los Cristianos is located in the southwestern part of the island of Tenerife, head of the Canary Islands family. The former fishing village got its name from the Spaniards who came here in the 15th century. The subjects of the Spanish Crown, who expelled the indigenous inhabitants of the Guanches from here, with the sound of los cristianos showed that true Christians now reign here, and not half-savage pagans.
The reason for the second wave of “conquerors”, though peaceful and useful to the islanders, tourists, was the Swedish TV presenter Benito Rylander. Having recovered from multiple sclerosis, using only the climatic and balneological possibilities of Los Cristianos, he quickly spread the word about such a miracle in his homeland. Therefore, the Swedes were the first to develop the natural resources of the south of Tenerife. Soon the Germans and the British joined them. Many of them have purchased their own Los Cristianos apartments. There are so many dwellings of the descendants of the Vikings here that one of the main streets is called Swedish, and on a rock by the sea there is a small Lutheran church.
Perhaps it is the rich history of the town that distinguishes it from the neighboring resort of Las Americas. Los Cristianos hotels are predominantly occupied by wealthy, older residents of the Scandinavian Peninsula and the British Isles. More affordable apartments are rented by residents of Central and Eastern Europe. The city itself is distinguished by calmness, the absence of noisy and enchanting entertainment, generally inexpensive housing and high-quality cuisine.
Rental property – Los Cristianos
Los Cristinos has two long lines of beaches. The first – the same name with the name of the city, has access to the port water area. The second – the beach “Playa las Vistas”, is preferred by those who love a secluded and sophisticated holiday. From here you can clearly see the fortifications left over from the last world war. From anywhere in the city you can see the massive cone of the dormant volcano Montagna Guas. The nearest airport, “South” is 18 km away from the city, and the noisy and carnival capital of Santa Cruz de Tenerife is only 78 km away. High-quality freeway and stunning aqua and mountain landscapes along it will allow guests to get only pleasure and admiration from the transfer from the airport to their rented apartments.

Forecast Bobrov/Oberleitner – Ahuda/Dlimi (December 14), bets and odds duel will be Ahuda/Limi.
Just a few days ago, Bobrov/Oberleitner and Ahuda/Dlimi played their matches, and now on December 14 they will have a face-to-face confrontation within the same tournament. Moscow time, tennis masters will take to the court at 16:00. The opponents did not often play with each other, although they have been playing at the highest level for several years. Previously, there were only two meetings in which Bobrov / Oberleitner has two wins, and both wins were only after five sets.
Bobrov/Oberleitner – Ahuda/Dlimi. WHO IS THE FAVORITE OF THE MATCH?
Events that will take place on December 14 have appeared in the line of bookmakers, so in the tennis section you can find the match between Bobrov / Oberleitner – Ahuda / Dlimi. For those who want to make a pre-match bet on the game, it is necessary to do this before 16:00 Moscow time, until the match starts. Bobrov/Oberleitner and Ahuda/Dlimi have never met on the court, despite the fact that they occupy high positions in the tennis rankings and have been playing at a professional level for several years.
Bobrov/Oberleitner
At the moment Bobrov/Oberleitner is one of the “dark horses” of this tournament, because this season there was no participation in other competitions of such a high class. Often these were simple Challengers, where there were enough opponents from the third and fourth hundred of the world tennis rating. How Bobrov/Oberleitner will behave in a match with a more serious opponent is not yet clear, because it is unlikely that he will be able to set his own pace and completely control the game, as was the case in all previous fights. In past seasons, stability was not enough for a successful performance, and now Bobrov / Oberleitner has so far shown only a good first serve, but so far no skillful defense and first-class technical skills have been noticed. In addition, Bobrov/Oberleitner plays poorly near the net, and also often allows a loss of concentration. This tournament is a home tournament, so there is hope that Bobrov/Oberleitner will prepare more thoroughly for the fight.
Ahuda/Dlimi
The start of this season could have been just great, because already in the first tournament they managed to reach the semi-finals, but had to abandon the game due to a small injury. Fortunately, the injury was not serious so Ahuda/Dlimi is now back in the ranks and hopes to play better in this tournament. Ahuda/Dlimi has an unusual style of play, performing a lot of cut short shots during the match, so it is very difficult for opponents to adapt to such a game and act confidently on draws. Akhuda/Dlimi is still experiencing problems with the serve, but it is unlikely to be for a long time, because there is simply no need to put a lot of pressure on the hand yet, since it was with it that there were minor problems that made me turn to the doctors. She performs on the hard surface most often, so she has a lot of experience playing on these courts. Ahuda/Dlimi is currently ranked 38th in the world rankings, but there are excellent chances to rise even higher.
Match prediction
Modern tennis is very popular. And it’s not just that this sport attracts a huge number of bettors, tennis is a spectator sport in which athletes give out incredible rally draws, keeping the fans on their toes right up to the last blow. And the athletes themselves today demonstrate smart tennis. Now you rarely see tennis players who simply interrupt the ball in a rally. Everyone is trying to attack in order to impose their game on the opponent, take the initiative in the match into their own hands and try to win. Sometimes, bookmaker quotes for a particular tennis match do not reflect the real strength of opponents. Therefore, this is only in the hands of bettors, since you can bet on a large coefficient and win a substantial amount of funds with minimal risk. Usually, the experts of our site analyze the most interesting and spectacular tennis matches, those matches in which, in our opinion, there will be a tense struggle, and in which equal opponents meet with equal chances of success. However, recently, bookmakers have increasingly begun to underestimate opponents, so we try to offer a large selection of predictions for more matches so that bettors can choose the most interesting matches for bets. These matches include a confrontation in which Bobrov/Oberleitner and Ahuda/Dlimi will determine the strongest. We think that the opponents are now in good shape, so we expect a tight confrontation here, so we somewhat disagree with how the bookmakers quote this match. More detailed information, as well as predictions for the meeting of rivals, can be found below.
At such a high stage of the prestigious tennis tournament, Bobrov/Oberleitner deservedly performs, because this season can be considered one of the best in his career. Bobrov / Oberleitner is always mobile on the court, and often it is this quality that helps to win. Very serious opponents were overcome at this tournament, so there is no doubt that now Bobrov/Oberleitner will do everything to get to the final. At the moment, Bobrov / Oberleitner occupies the thirteenth line in the world tennis ranking, which is the highest achievement, but it is impossible to play against the TOP-10 representatives, since high speed and powerful serve are not yet a guarantee of victory. In addition, Bobrov / Oberleitner likes to play on hard surfaces more, and now he will have to act on grass courts, on which there have not been any achievements in his entire career. However, Bobrov/Oberleitner has two more days to prepare, which means a lot.
Ahuda/Dlimi is just getting started this season, so only four matches have been played so far, of which two have been won and two ended in losses. It is worth noting that both defeats were in matches against opponents who act in a similar style, acting on the court in a very aggressive manner. As long as Ahuda/Dlimi plays only this way, the opponent allows it, so if there is too much aggressive pressure, then Ahuda/Dlimi starts to make mistakes and the defensive game is destroyed. As for this court coverage, Akhuda/Dlimi does not perform well on it, because in his entire career there have been no achievements, except that two years ago at the same tournament he managed to reach the quarterfinals, but then too light opponents came across the grid . There were only two days to prepare for this match, and since a lot of energy and emotions were spent in the last game, it is unlikely that Ahuda/Dlimi will be able to show his best tennis now.
Today match Bobrov/Oberleitner – Ahuda/Dlimi Forecasts from BC “BaltBet”
Our analysts have repeatedly emphasized that the rating of tennis players is not the most important thing for determining the winner in a particular match. Physical condition, psychological stability, mood and coverage of the tournament are one of the most important criteria that require the most careful study and analysis to determine the favorite of a particular tennis match. They are also the primary factors when looking for interesting bets on a particular tennis confrontation. When predicting a match in which the opponents will be Bobrov/Oberleitner and Ahuda/Dlimi, the analysts of our portal tried to take into account all these factors. Moreover, the athletes are well acquainted with each other, as their paths crossed at various tournaments. Bobrov/Oberleitner and Ahuda/Dlimi have a lot of experience in performances, as they have been showing excellent results for a number of years, achieving victories and winning titles. The current tournament for them is a great opportunity to demonstrate a high level of preparation and compete for another trophy. It is still too early to talk about the possibility of reaching the final of the tournament or winning titles, as a very strong lineup of athletes has gathered at this tournament. On the other hand, defeating a strong athlete and winning the title is a great demonstration of their claims to a higher rating, and Bobrov / Oberleitner and Ahuda / Dlimy will try not to miss this chance. Our forecasts boil down to the fact that the match will be interesting, since it is very difficult to give an unconditional advantage to one of the opponents here.
Bobrov/Oberleitner and Ahuda/Dlimi who are to determine the strongest in the next match of a prestigious tennis tournament, opponents who are very familiar with each other’s style of play. Tennis players have repeatedly crossed rackets at different stages of various tournaments. Therefore, before starting to predict this confrontation, our analysts decided to resort to head-to-head statistics. It became clear from it that Bobrov/Oberleitner has an advantage over the opponent, since on this type of coverage he has no defeats. But Ahuda/Dlimi, although showing good tennis this season, still cannot achieve more or less sane results on this type of surface. This means that our favorite for this matchup is Bobrov/Oberleitner. However, the match for the favorite is unlikely to be passing. Ahuda/Dlimi knows how to tune in to titled opponents. This is evidenced by the high rating of the athlete, and personal meetings between rivals in most matches took place in wrestling. Having carefully studied the line of bookmakers, we noticed that the line offers an underestimated total of games. We believe that this should be used, especially since in previous matches at the tournament Bobrov / Oberleitner acted rather mediocrely on his serve. If the previous opponents were much lower level, then Ahuda/Dlimi is unlikely to forgive this. Our experts are waiting for a tight confrontation here, but due to more experience, Bobrov/Oberleitner will be the winner.
TODAY MATCH Bobrov/Oberleitner – Ahuda/Dlimi. PREDICTION FROM THE EXPERTS
For the match in which Bobrov/Oberleitner and Ahuda/Dlimi will meet, the bookmakers have offered a rather interesting line. Recall that bookmakers draw up a line for tennis matches based on the rating and current form of athletes. Judging by the way the opponents started the season, they are ready to demonstrate high results in all the tournaments they take part in. Therefore, our analysts believe that the line set by the bookmakers is correct. However, this did not prevent us from carefully analyzing the possibility of victory for one and the other athlete in this match, and offer our predictions for this confrontation.
No visit to the island is complete without at least a drive through the pine forests to the bizarre lunar landscape of one of Spain’s most popular national parks. And of course, once there, you can’t miss the big pointy thing jutting into the sky. That’s the volcano. Not just any volcano though, Mount Teide is the world’s third largest. Take the cable car to the top for a God-like view of the surrounding islands.
2. Siam Park
Not a natural attraction admittedly, but still one that shouldn’t be missed. Named as one of the best 10 water parks in the world, if you like your thrills and spills wet, you have just got to go to this Thai-themed water park with loads of scream-inducing rides and slides, a gigantic wave pool complete with gold sand beach, and a mini-aquatic park just for kids. Book the Siam Park now.
3. Masca
Tenerife’s very own Shangri-la. This picturesque village cligns precariously to the side of the mountains in the north-west of Tenerife, hidden from the rest of civilisation and looking very much like it did centuries ago. A switchback road corksrews up and down to the the village from Santiago del Teide, so if you’re of a nervous disposition you might want to close your eyes (not if you’re the driver obviously).
4. Whales and dolphins
The waters between Tenerife and La Gomera are one of the few places in the world where you are pretty much guaranteed to spot the resident population of pilot whales and bottlenose dolphins. Hop on a Tenerife whales and dolphins boat excursion or if you want to get really up-close-and-personal go to our Tenerife excursions page where you can book a mind-blowing dolphin encounter at the dolphinarium in Aqualand.
5. The cliffs of Los Gigantes
I dare you to view the cliffs of Los Gigantes and not be gobsmacked. Plunging an impressive 1600 feet into the Atlantic, this curtain of stone lining the northwest corner of Tenerife are absolutely stunning. The best way to see them is by boat, although they’re also mighty damned impressive from one of the quayside bars with glass of frosty beer in hand too.
6. Garachico
Officially one of the world’s most unlucky places, the picture-postcard-pretty town of Garachico has, in its time, suffered fires, storms, plagues and pestilence. But it was the eruption of 1706 which finally destroyed half the town and its harbour. Like a valient phoenix, Garachico rose from beneath the lava, dusted itself off and carved fabulous rock pools out of the debris – genius. Today it’s one of Tenerife’s most popular day trip destinations, and deservedly so. The best excursion in our opinion would be the Teide-Masca-Icod-Garachico day trip.
7. Pyramids of Güímar
They may not be as impressive as the ones in Egypt, but the Pyramids of Güímar are every bit as mysterious as an episode of Scooby Doo and the Mystery of the Mummy. Are they the missing link between the development of civilizations on either side of the Atlantic? If nothing else, they’re an intriguing sight in a park filled with reed ships, ancient artefacts and tranquil grounds.
8. Loro Parque
A veritable Noah’s Ark of animals, an artificial iceberg complete with snow and penguins and one of the best dolphin shows this side of the Atlantic are to be found amongst the 8,000 palm trees and exotic jungle of Loro Parque in Puerto de la Cruz. That’s not to even mention the bicycle riding parrots, the killer whales and the sharks…or the gorillas, the flamingos and..it’s no good, you’ll just have to go and see for yourself.
9. Anaga Mountains
Travel back in time to a land before the invention of Ryanair and Ambre Solaire where the people live in caves and electricity only arrived in the 1990s. Another theme park? No, the Anaga Mountains. As far removed from the beaches of Playa de Las Américas as its possible to be, these incredible mountains have tiny hamlets clinging to the sides of steep ravines, magical drago tree forests and more than enough scenery to overdose on.
10. Botanical Gardens
One of Spain’s oldest botanical gardens and containing more than 3000 specimens of the world’s most unusual plants and trees, the Botanical Gardens in Puerto de la Cruz would have Ant and Dec feeling right at home. There are drunken trees, bread fruit trees, cacti that would have your eye out and strelitzas the size of extras from Lost World. It’s a jungle in there.

TOP 10 ACTIVITIES IN TENERIFE
You are looking for a destination with few flying hours and sunny all year round ? Look no further and fly to Tenerife, an island in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean …
Here are the top 10 activities not to be missed !
This small piece of land has 933,402 inhabitants and holds the highest peak os Espana with the volcano located at 3718m altitude.
Located off the coast of Morocco, Tenerife is the most touristic island in the Canary Islands.
The island offers an incredible diversity of landscapes, beaches, restaurants, hotels and attractions. By choosing this destination you will be sure not to get bored and have a great holiday.
Paradise Tenerife gives you the secrets of Tenerife ….
1 / SANTA CRUZ DE TENERIFE :
Santa Cruz de Tenerife is the capital of the island of Tenerife. It is located in the northeast of the island. It is a dynamic and cultural city. It has a pleasant city center with shops of famous brands and starred restaurants.
The carnival of Santa Cruz is one of the great moments of the cultural life of this city. It is considered the second most beautiful carnival in the world behind Rio de Janeiro. For several days, the city metamorphoses and gives way to disguises, music and parades in an atmosphere of joy and festivity. This festival starts mid-February and lasts nights and days.
The end of the carnival is symbolized by the burial of the sardine.
2 / THE TEIDE SUMMIT :
Teide 3718
The volcano Teide is the highest volcano in the archipelago of the Canary Islands. It is located at 3718m. In winter, he is can be covered with his white coat. There are several accesses to get to Teide National Park, roads and landscapes are beautiful …. You can make some stops on the low sides to enjoy the view. I recommend you to book in advance your place for the ascent of pico del teide. Two possibilities are available to you: by cable car or on foot (provide 8 hours of walking back and forth). The view is spectacular, there are beautiful seas of cloud and one distinguishes perfectly the other islands of the canaries.
3 / EAT IN THE GUACHINCHES
What is it ? These are typical Canarian restaurants! The cuisine is tasty, colorful and generous. I advise you to take a good parillada of meats or fish accompanied by dads arrugadas, potatoes typical of the canary islands and to add mojo verde or rojo; it is an excellent local sauce made from olive oil, garlic and coriander. Finish with a barraquito, local coffee with its sweetness … I do not tell you more not to spoil the surprise! You are sure to eat typical by choosing these dishes! Good tasting !
4 / MASCA :
Do not leave without visiting Masca! This is for me the most beautiful place on the island. It is a village surrounded by prominent peaks, arid barrancos with a splendid view of the ocean. Stop in the village to drink a cortado, admire the vegetation, calm and nature. Take your time, you will be amazed and take full view.
5 / SIAM PARK :
Place to relax! With family or friends, book a day at Siam Park! Fun and sensations guaranteed! It is the number 1 water park in Europe, it is located in the south of Tenerife on the Costa Adeje.
6 / Water SPORTS
kite la tejita
If you want to spend sporty and sunny holidays all year long then come and spend them inTenerife! The island has a multitude of surf spots between the north and south of the island. But that’s not all, if you like kite and windsurf you will find your happiness in El Medano. The wind is constant all year but is stronger in July and August; It is also during this period that the Windsurf World Cup takes place, where you will meet the greatest champions.
7 / THE CHARCOS :
Have you never heard of it? These are natural pools created by volcanic lava and located by the sea. It is an exceptional beauty mixing the creations of nature and the pleasure of a sea bath surrounded by volcanic rock. The ocean brings out its palette of blue and you will have only one desire, dive in these turquoise waters!
8 / MAKE PARTY ? :
Who says holidays, says fiesta! You want to ignite the dance floor? Then go to Los christianos and Las Américas where you will find the most famous discos, bars and chill out!
There is something for everyone, from salsa to raggae to rock and house, you will spend a good time for sure, night dancing and having fun! Fiestas are provided every night of the year with sometimes famous guests!
9 / VISIT THE MARINE FUNDS :
Do you dream of diving in Tenerife? do not wait … waters at 20 degrees all year long and an exceptional marine fauna! You will be able to cross turtles, sharks angels, rays and school of fish in clear water with a very good visibility. With a little luck, you will certainly come across dolphins on your way!
10 / FLYING AS A BIRD :
tandem paragliding over south tenerife
Discover the island differently by flying in paragliding! This is a great way to conclude your stay on the island. You will feel like a bird and enjoy an exceptional view and absolute tranquility. You will approach the nearest barrancos, the views are breathtaking and land on the beach caleta.
Have fun in Tenerife
Natural spots in Tenerife Part 1
Earlier I wrote about the amazing water park in Tenerife as well as the amazing animal exhibitions in Loro Parque and today I would like to show you a little more about the natural areas on this volcanic rock. Incredibly raw and wild landscapes that have been created by the growth and volcanic eruptions that make up the island. Tenerife is not an island of gentle slopes and relaxing greenery, but rather a beautiful desert landscape, strange and alien, but wonderful . … The second part is devoted to the exploration of Los Gigantes in Tenerife, as well as some other amazing natural, but less known places. nine0003
The most famous is the Teide National Park.
I’m going to move on to lesser known places on the island, but this national park, which will be visited by almost everyone who comes to Tenerife, is worth talking about! People visit this towering central landmark for a reason. It is the highest mountain in “Spain” (or the Spanish territories), and stretching over 12,000 feet with snow on top all year round, it’s a wonderful backdrop to your beach holiday! It’s also fantastic to get away from the summer heat and rise to the top. The temperature at the top of the mountain/volcano is a bit cooler, and can be a relief if you’re not particularly used to the heat! nine0003
Alien landscape – Llano de Ucanca.
The Ukanca Plains looks like a scene from a rover, with lifeless red dust swirling around and nothing to see for miles around. It is the epitome of Tenerife’s natural beauty in that it is rugged, barren and absolutely stunning. Due to the wilderness and the absolute brutality of the landscapes in Tenerife (especially at 2000 meters above sea level), there is very little industrial development. While this means that trips to these places can be a little long and hot, if you don’t mind a little hardship, you can feel isolated and alone. While for some people this may take them outside of their comfort zone, I love visiting places that are very popular but can still give you a sense of uniqueness and specialty. nine0003
Endless views – Cherfe Viewpoint
Although Tenerife is not an island with great views, one of the best places on the island to really soak it all up is Cherfe Viewpoint. From this vantage point, you can see almost the entire western part of the island, and is right next to the very popular village of Masca. Like many of the best places in Tenerife, Tenerife is very underdeveloped, but you can often find a small van selling food and drinks (although not always). Some people might be put off by the lack of all amenities in close proximity, but for me, that’s part of the beauty, as it allows you to really be in the moment and connect with the nature around you. nine0003

PARQUE NACIONAL DEL TEIDE My name is Joe I grew up in the UK, lived in Africa and Paris and now live in Spain. I love being outdoors and there is nothing better than finding a deserted beach, building a fire and enjoying the view.
Top 10 things to do in Barcelona
Barcelona travel articles
Viatores
We are even a little jealous of those who are going to come to Barcelona for the first time. After all, the feeling when you walk along its streets for the first time in your life, explore every corner and enjoy the warmth – you will remember for a lifetime! Barcelona is a wonderful city, which has a huge number of both natural and cultural attractions. It will take you several weeks to explore this city and visit at least some of them, but you have to start somewhere, don’t you? Therefore, especially for you, we have prepared a selection of “What you must do in Barcelona?” So that you can start planning your trip right now and not miss the most interesting. nine0003
Walk along the Rambla
Barcelona is beautiful at any time of the year, so you can enjoy walking along the central street of the city – the Rambla all year round and around the clock. It’s always noisy, fun and atmospheric. Shops with souvenirs and flowers, cafes and restaurants with a huge selection of tapas and paella. The smells of delicious food reign here, the screams of waiters inviting you to visit their restaurant, an endless line of tree crowns stretching into the distance, laughter and happy faces of those who came, like you, to fall in love with the beautiful Barcelona. And despite the fact that everything is overpriced here, thieves are operating and there is always no crowding – you will love walking along the Rambla: early in the morning to look at the awakening city and drop by the Boqueria market (Mercat de la Boqueria), and in the evening to join the fun crowd and go to local establishments. nine0003
Rambla. Barcelona
Try the national cuisine
Catalan cuisine is varied and delicious. You don’t have to spend a lot of time looking for national dishes – they are offered in almost every restaurant. Tapas and tortillas, paella (be sure to try Arroz negro – cuttlefish ink paella!) and churros, turon and creme catalana are waiting for you! You will only have to choose and find your favorite establishments, where you will return more than once. Look for places away from the tourist trails – there prices are cheaper and the quality of food is better. Don’t forget the seafood! Here you will find them in abundance, and most importantly, straight from the sea. We advise you to visit the La Paradeta network of establishments, where you yourself choose from the counter what seafood (some are still moving!) You want to taste and how you cook them. The prices are affordable, the cuisine is beyond praise! nine0003
Paella
Go to Tibidabo
Explore the vast or the best viewpoint in the city. Two in one. Mount Tibidabo (Tibidabo, by the way – the highest point of the city) is waiting for tourists to offer them a visit to the amusement park, the stunning Temple of the Sacred Heart (Temple Expiatori del Sagrat Cor) and a view of Barcelona that will make you dizzy. If we were asked to name one, but the best attraction in Barcelona, it would definitely be Mount Tibidabo. nine0003
View from the Tibidabo observation deck
Relax on the beach
Barcelona makes you fall in love with it because it has everything: do you want the charm of a European city? Please! Do you want national flavor? And that’s enough here! Do you want a beach holiday? It offers excellent sandy beaches in the heart of the city. It is not necessary to go to boring resorts, where, apart from the sea and the sun, there is nothing special to entertain yourself with when there is Barcelona! Here you can enjoy a beach holiday one day, and the next day go to the Picasso Museum (Museu Picasso) or go to Montserrat (Monestir Santa Maria de Montserrat). nine0003
View of the Barcelona beach
Get lost in the Gothic Quarter
The heart of Barcelona is its oldest quarter. You can walk along its narrow, dark streets for an infinitely long time. Even if you are not here for the first time, you can easily get lost, then suddenly go where you need to, then get lost again and go to another square that you have never seen, although it will seem to you that you have passed here a hundred times already. Churches, monuments, shops, squares, courtyards, sculptures, graffiti – all this is hidden in the lanes of the Gothic Quarter. And this is where the real Barcelona is felt. Despite the slovenliness and dubious contingent of the quarter, especially at night, you always feel safe here, and all because you have already fallen in love with Barcelona. And you feel good in any corner of it. nine0003
Streets of the Gothic Quarter
Look at the creations of Gaudí
The houses, parks and temples of the legendary architect Antonio Gaudí are already a sufficient reason to visit the city. His works are no longer just buildings. This is Barcelona itself. In the Sagrada Familia (La Sagrada Familia), you will want to come here every trip to observe the changes in construction. Sagrada cannot be described in words, emotions cannot be picked up. Don’t be intimidated by the long queue and the price of entrance tickets. This is a must see, period. Only when you get inside and are dumbfounded by the beauty – only then will you understand why everyone always advises to go here, and Gaudi is legendary and nothing else. Do not forget about other creations, they certainly also deserve your attention: Casa Batlló, Park Guell, Casa Milà, Palau Güell in Barcelona and others. nine0003
Sagrada Familia
Try sangria
Do not be surprised that we have singled out this drink of the gods in a separate item. If you are surprised, then you simply have not tried Spanish sangria. It is delicious everywhere here: for 20 € in a restaurant, and for 2 €, bought in a bottle in a supermarket. Try grabbing some sangria one evening, stroll down to Barceloneta beach and watch the sunset while sitting on the sand and enjoying a drink. Believe me, this will become your best tradition! nine0003
Sangria
Go shopping
Whether it’s branded boutiques, malls or local Spanish designers, you’ll be satisfied. Do not forget that you can bring as a gift from Barcelona not only souvenirs or clothes, but also gastronomic products: jamon, sangria, turon, Chorizo sausages, paella sets, olive oil, cheeses.
Sausages
Go to football
Even if you are not a football fan, attending a Barcelona football match is worth seeing. Just imagine that you are on the top tier of the Camp Nou stadium, which seats almost 100,000 spectators and is the largest stadium in all of Europe, in front of you there are thousands of fans who roar when Leo Messi hammers another goal into opponent gate! From memories alone – goosebumps. In addition, the cost of tickets is quite affordable – for 20-25 € you can snatch a ticket for a match. And if there are no matches on the days of your stay, then be sure to visit the stadium tour, which includes not only visits to the museum, but also a passage to the field, where you can walk around the commentators’ booths, the bench and even the players’ locker rooms. nine0003
Camp Nou
Take a ride on Montjuïc
Montjuïc in Barcelona is just a collection of historical and modern sights. And how wonderful you can get there – on the cable car from Barceloneta beach. You will be provided with breathtaking views of the city and some of the best photos of the trip! When you get to the top, your task will be to plan your day to try to cover all the places that await you here: the National Art Museum of Catalonia (Museu Nacional d’Art de Catalunya, MNAC), the Spanish Village (Poble Espanyol), the Joan Miro Foundation ( La Fundació Joan Miró en Barcelona), Montjuic Fortress (Castell de Montjuïc), Montjuic Magic Fountain (Fuente mágica de Montjuic), Botanical Garden (Jardin Botanico de Barcelona) and other parks, Olympic venues, Telefónica Tower and much more.

Excellent location, next to the wonderful sandy Del Duc beach. Clean, beautiful area! Great breakfasts and dinners! Large and comfortable rooms! Special thanks to one of the Directors of the Ms.Haike Hotel for organizing a children’s party!!! It was on the eve of Easter, when everything was closed, and yet, a wonderful celebration was organized with a cake and a children’s disco . .! And also special thanks for the flowers on my own birthday!
Not very good soundproofing in the rooms… Pools are quite cold.. Evening entertainment is aimed at adults..! Couples with children and young people will be bored ..! The hotel, in general, is not particularly suitable for families with children…

Super everything for adults! The breakfasts are excellent, the choice is large, incl. champagne with foie gras. For dinner every other day, sushi, rolls, Japanese cuisine, two types of salad and hot gourmet dishes. 4 types of fish and 6 types of meat are grilled + you can choose from a large number of ready-made dishes. Ripe and tasty fruits, ice cream were always there. Very spacious and large room. The sofa folds out and becomes a double bed, so the child slept separately. The bed is huge. For children in the pool they inflated a large pirate ship, it’s a pity that it was only 1 time in 15 days. An excellent children’s room, it worked until one in the morning for sure, there was also a children’s disco and children’s faces were painted for free. Nice clean pools with sea water, there were always free sunbeds. The sea is nearby. The cleanliness of the room is perfect. The child was decorated with a bed every day, day and evening, children’s toys – the child was delighted. The waiters made flowers from napkins for my daughter.
Didn’t like oatmeal for breakfast, the child didn’t like it, but there were no other cereals. Lunch is also a problem. The child is 4 years old, there were no normal soups, even if they were pureed for 15 days. For dinner, they asked to cook chicken legs for the child and make mashed potatoes.
Not very comfortable pillows.

Time difference
Travelmath provides an online time zone
converter for places all over the world. You can enter airports,
cities, states, countries, or zip codes to find the time difference
between any two locations. The calculator will automatically
adjust for daylight saving time (DST) in the summer. You can
use it as a meeting planner or a scheduler to find the best time
to make international phone calls. World time zones have a
positive or negative offset computed from Coordinated Universal
Time (UTC), or Greenwich Mean Time (GMT). UTC has uniform
seconds defined by International Atomic Time (TAI), with leap
seconds announced at irregular intervals to compensate for the
Earth’s slowing rotation. The tz database or zoneinfo database
uses the closest city, rather than the more common Eastern,
Central, Mountain or Pacific time zones in the United States.
Countries often change their daylight saving rules, so please

Spain time change in 2021 / 2022
In Spain there are two time changes, one in March and one in October. Know when and why we change our clocks and what is the time difference between Malaga in Spain and UK.

End of time change
When and how is the time change in March to daylight saving or summer time?
In March, the clock change in Spain is in the early morning from Saturday to the last Sunday of the month. In 2021 it will be the night of Saturday the 27th to Sunday the 28th of March.
The clock change in March at 2:00 am, it will change to 3:00 am. From that Sunday, dawn and dusk will arrive later, so it is called summer time.
The official regulation of daylight saving time would not come into effect until 1981. It was then established the hour change would be on the last Sunday in March and last Sunday in September, although the latter would eventually change in 1996 to the last Sunday in October.
‘;
When do the clocks go back in October?
The clocks go back on the night leading up to the last Sunday in October. In 2021 the change will be early in the night from Saturday 30 to Sunday 31 October.
The exact time the time changes is at 3:00 am., which will change to 2:00 am. So from then on it will get dark and dawn earlier.
Therefore from the last Sunday in October the clock will be moved backward by one hour. We now have the well-known winter time.
Why do the clocks change in Spain?
The first clock change proposal came from the UK with the aim of saving electricity on the longest days of the year. In 1918, the so-called ‘daylight saving’ was approved worldwide.
In Spain however, this decision was not taken unilaterally. During the civil war, the two parties at war had different timings. This clock difference would be unified at the end of the war.
The official regulation of daylight saving time would not come into effect until 1981. It was then established the hour change would be on the last Sunday in March and last Sunday in September, although the latter would eventually change in 1996 to the last Sunday in October.
Why is Spain 1 hour ahead UK?
The time zone in Spain should correspond to others like United Kingdom, Portugal or the Canary Islands due to its geographical location.
On March 16,1940 and under a dictatorship, the clocks were set at 12 pm instead of 11 pm. But why did this happen?
According to a report of that time it was to be in accordance with other European countries, but it seems that it was more of a gesture towards Berlin. This change is something England and France also did, although at the end of the war England returned to its natural time zone, while France and Spain did not.
Spain time difference to England
Spain and Malaga are 1 hour ahead of England but it should be the same. In Spain only Canary Islands have the correct time zone.
In a near future Malaga and England will share the same time zone, when it happens I will be here to tell you.

End of time change
In 2021 or 2022 it will be the last year there is a daylight saving time not only in Spain but in Europe. There is already a plan to finish with the seasonal clock in the territory.

Time difference between Moscow and Spain – Lessons from Travelers
Most people in Spain live on Central European Time (UTC/GMT +1 hour), so Moscow is 2 hours ahead of Spain. The traveler needs to remember that in Spain a seasonal time change is used every six months, so when flying in summer time, the clock should be set back 2 hours, and if the flight is planned in winter, then the hands will need to be set to 3 hours.
This rule is not used throughout Spain. If the destination is the Canary Islands, which is in the UTC / GMT +0 hours time zone, then the time translation will be different. During the summer holidays, the difference with Moscow time is 3 hours, and in winter, 4 hours.

Windsors and Romanovs: what links the two royal dynasties (Answer: Germany)

All the royal houses of Europe were closely related. Germany became the main source of common ancestors
Royal families are unenviable: too few children or children of the wrong sex – and the dynasty is in danger, too many – and the territory under its jurisdiction can slide into civil war.
Of course, we are talking about the times when monarchs ruled without regard to parliament and could do almost anything they wanted.
In England, for example, if Edward III had not had so many children, there would have been no war between Yorks and Lancasters.
Catherine of Aragon gave birth to Henry VIII a son who would have lived to adulthood, England, quite possibly, would still have remained Catholic.
In the history of European monarchies, there are a huge number of examples when the number of royal children (or their absence) decided the fate of the country for several centuries to come.
This material was prepared in response to questions sent by our readers about the British Royal Family . You can ask your questions on other topics at these links ( About life in Britain , About the cultural life of London ).

Engraving of young Victoria on the day of her accession to the throne, June 20, 1837
By the time the young Victoria came to the British throne, royal power in Europe, with the exception of a few particularly stubborn countries, was already somewhat limited.
But monarchies as such were still preserved, and kings, dukes and electors got married and gave birth to children, who then had to somehow be attached.
Germany turned out to be a real Klondike for the Royal Brides Fair.

Map of northern and central Germany in 1806. There were many options for choosing brides and grooms
Until 1806, the center of Europe spoke almost exclusively German. Moreover, he did this on the territory of more than 300 different independent and semi-independent entities, most of which in one way or another were part of the Holy Roman Empire.
These included the hereditary possessions of the Habsburgs, and many small territories ruled by the princely family of Hohenlohe, and the small kingdoms of Bavaria and Prussia, and even the episcopates of Reichenau and Cologne.
However, Napoleon Bonaparte, having defeated the Prussian and Russian troops in the simultaneous battles of Jena and Auerstedt, dissolved the empire and sent numerous rulers on a solo voyage. As a result, the map of central Europe at that time looked like a complex mosaic, with each piece having its own ruler.
If anything, the Germans will help

Elector of Hanover, King George I of Britain. According to his contemporaries, he was a boring person, he never spoke English
The German states and principalities were not only an inexhaustible source of brides, but also a reserve in case some other countries suddenly found themselves without heirs.
The Elector of Hanover, Georg Ludwig, for example, became the first British king of the Hanoverian dynasty, George I.
According to his contemporaries, Georg was a boring person and did not speak English. The country was actually ruled by a cabinet of ministers, which generally benefited Britain.
The Hanoverian dynasty was strengthened on the throne, and over the next century and a half, its offspring of both sexes married mainly representatives of the German ruling families.

The Duchess of Kent with her daughter, the future Queen Victoria. In the hands of a baby holding a portrait of his father, by that time already deceased
There were two reasons for this. The first is that these royal Germans were a dime a dozen, and the second is that, under British law, the monarch did not have the right to marry Catholics, which excluded all territories south of the Rhine.
After the death of Princess Charlotte, the only child of George IV and Caroline of Brunswick, the king’s brothers rushed to marry in order to provide the country with a legitimate heir. Where to look for wives? Of course, in the same Germany.
And so it happened that Edward, Duke of Kent married Victoria Maria Louise of Saalfeld. The result of this union was Queen Victoria, who, in turn, married her again German cousin Albert from the Saxe-Coburg-Gotha dynasty.
Dynastically, Victoria proved to be the most successful British queen and awarded most of the European thrones to her offspring.
And the Russians there too

Photo caption,
Ekaterina Alekseevna, aka Sophia-Augusta-Frederike of Anhalt-Zerbst a year after her marriage
The offspring of royal, ducal, electoral and other German ruling families were not too fastidious and married wherever they called.
Empress Catherine II, also known as Catherine the Great, was called Sophia-August-Frederica before her conversion to Orthodoxy and was Princess of Anhalt-Zerbst. By her mother, she belonged to the Holstein-Gottorp princely family, by her father – to Anhalt-Zerbst;
Her son, the future Emperor Paul I, was married twice, both times to German women. His first wife was called Augusta-Wilhelmine of Hesse-Darmstadt, and the second – Sophia-Dorotea-August-Louise of Württemberg;
Alexander I was married to Louise-Maria-August of Baden;
Nicholas I – on Princess Charlotte of Prussia;
Alexander II – on Maximilian-Wilhelmine-August-Sophia-Mary of Hesse-Darmstadt;
And only Alexander III put a temporary end to this tradition by marrying Princess Dagmar of Denmark. Although in fact she was German, since her father, King Christian IX, was a representative of the younger branch of the German Oldenburg dynasty.

Photo caption,
Pavel I with his family. Next to him is his second wife, also a German, Sophia-Dorotea-Augusta-Louise of Württemberg, she is Maria Feodorovna
Thus, numerous German kingdoms and principalities turned out to be something like a fishpond, from which different royal houses caught a fish (bride) according to your taste and discretion.
Therefore, some mixing of DNA was unavoidable. And here is just one example: Margaret-Augusta of Anhalt-Zerbst was the grandmother of the British King George I and a relative of the future Russian Empress Catherine II, who came from the same august family.
And if you think that the other royal houses of Europe escaped the German gene pool, you are deeply mistaken.
Christian IX Danish

Photo caption,
King Christian and Queen Louise. Though Danish, but still Germans
The Germans dug in on the Danish throne for a long time. If the native dynasty died out for some reason, a replacement should be found as soon as possible.
To organize bloody civil wars as in the Middle Ages was already somehow not very accepted (if politics did not interfere in the issue of succession to the throne), and the mixing of blood in the royal families of Europe was such that it was no longer possible to find any distant relative of a suitable religion was a lot of work.
Christian IX of Denmark was the king of Denmark, but before he was called to the throne, he held the titles of Duke of Schleswig-Holstein and Lüneburg (as well as the sad memory and fate of the Russian Emperor Peter III).
Image copyright Wikimedia Commons
Image caption
Christian IX with children. On the left is Princess Dagmar, the future Empress of Russia, on the right is Princess Alexandra, the future British Queen. And the son Valdemar, who renounced the Bulgarian crown
Christian, belonged to the younger branch of the Oldenburgs who ruled Denmark from 1448. And no one read him as king as long as there was hope that King Frederick VII of Denmark would leave offspring. In 1852, it became clear that the older branch of the Oldenburgs was on the verge of complete extinction, and Christian was made heir.
He married his second cousin, Princess Louise of Hesse-Kassel. This marriage turned out to be successful and fruitful, although the distribution of the Danish royal offspring to numerous European thrones was not so much thanks to the king, but thanks to his wife, who, like any self-respecting mother, tried to make the kids better.
Genetic hodgepodge
0003
So, in the second half of the 19th century, two prolific royal families found themselves in Europe, who had to somehow attach their numerous offspring.
The most curious thing is that Victoria and Christian were also related. They were second cousins through their common ancestor, King George II of Britain.
It is quite difficult to understand this intricacies of genealogical branches, and I apologize in advance. Judge for yourself: King Christian’s maternal grandparents, Karl of Hessel-Kassel and Louise of Denmark, were children of the daughters of George II of Britain, and thus cousins. Well, Christian’s wife Louise was the granddaughter of Prince Frederick of Hessel, brother of Christian’s father.
So Christian and Louise were first cousins and second cousins of Queen Victoria.
The grandmother of all Europe

Photo caption,
Kaiser Wilhelm. He was morbidly in love with his mother and grandmother and was desperately jealous of his cousin George
Queen Victoria sincerely believed that the more royal houses of Europe she was related to, the less chance there would be of a military conflict.
True, she herself, when planning the next marriage of her offspring, believed that they would take into account British interests on the new throne, which, unfortunately, did not always happen.
Victoria’s direct grandson, Kaiser Wilhelm, was terribly jealous of his British cousin, believed that his grandmother did not love him, and wanted to attract the attention of his relatives in every possible way. The fact that this resulted in the First World War (of course, there were other objective and much more important historical reasons for this conflict, but family relations should not be discounted), she did not know.
Father-in-law of Europe
Photo caption,
“Sasha and Minnie”. Tsarevich Alexander with his bride, the Danish princess Dagmar
And if Queen Victoria is called the grandmother of Europe, then Christian IX received the nickname of the European father-in-law.
His children were on the thrones of Denmark, the United Kingdom, Russia and Greece. Another of his daughters, Tyra, could well have become the queen of Hanover, but she was not lucky, because in 1866 Hanover was annexed by Prussia.
His son Valdemar was offered the crown of Bulgaria, but on reflection he declined, rightly judging that kingship was fraught with too many potential problems.
And so it happened that by the end of his life, Christian could boast of such high-ranking grandchildren as the Russian Emperor Nicholas II, the British King George V and Haakon VII, who occupied the throne of Norway. Of course, his offspring remained on the Danish throne, but for obvious reasons, he no longer saw this.
Two sisters
Photo author, Wikimedia Commons
Photo caption,
And here is the second sister Alexandra with her fiancé, the Prince of Wales
The most successful matrimonial achievement of Christian IX can be considered the fact that one of his daughters Alexandra married the Prince of Wales, the future King Edward VII, and the other, Dagmar, the Russian Emperor Alexander III.
Why both royal houses willingly intermarried with Denmark cannot be guaranteed to say, although it is likely that both Russia and Britain considered Denmark too insignificant a country, marriage with whose representatives could not significantly affect the balance of power in Europe.
The sisters’ sons: George V and Nicholas II were so similar that they were even confused. Which, perhaps, should not be surprising, given the numerous degrees of kinship between the two august houses.

Tsarevich Nicholas and Alice of Hesse after their engagement
Victoria’s second daughter, Princess Alice, married Prince Ludwig of Hesse. With this marriage, too, everything was not too simple, since Victoria actually wanted to marry her to someone more influential, for example, the Prince of Orange, or Albrecht of Prussia, who was a cousin of her own husband.
But Alice didn’t like the suitors. Victoria, who herself was in a happy marriage, believed that, of course, it was not necessary to captivate children, although dynastic ties should not be neglected either, and allowed her to marry in Hesse.
It cannot be said that the marriage of Alice and Ludwig was very happy, although this did not prevent the couple from having eight children.
The seventh was Victoria Alice-Helena-Louise-Beatrice of Hesse-Darmstadt, the future Russian Empress Alexandra Feodorovna, who married Nicholas II, who was the grandson of Christian IX.

10 Best Mountain Bike Trails in Northwest Arkansas
Northwest Arkansas (NWA) is a mountain biker’s mecca. Good weather, active, community-driven cycling advocates, and a lifetime of trails of varying length, difficulty, and style keep riders busy. Think of Rogers, Arkansas as the hub, set in the center of the action with spokes heading to epic areas like Bentonville and Fayetteville. Start with local favorites such as Lake Atalanta and the Railyard before heading out to must-do rides in the region.
Distance from Rogers: 2 miles Mileage: Up to 10 miles Difficulty: Beginner to expert
Atalanta is a local favorite for many reasons. It’s close to town yet offers up the lush beauty of a typical Ozark forest. The riding is fantastic as well, with bermed turns and fun wooden features throughout. The best part is that riders of varying skills can go together—many of the trails fork off, then meet up again, so the group is never too far apart from each other.
Distance from Rogers: 14 miles Mileage: 6 miles Difficulty: Easy to advanced
Accessible from Slaughter Pen and the Back 40, Blowing Springs has some of the best panoramic views of any park in the region. The riding is also stellar, with trails suitable for all ages and skill levels. There are exposed cliff lines, natural springs and its namesake cavern, which blows out a constant breeze of 60-degree air.
Distance from Rogers: 11 miles Mileage: 20+ miles Difficulty: Beginner to expert
Slaughter Pen is considered by many to be the best trail system in the state. Slaughter Pen is located in Bentonville, a town which IMBA recently recognized as a Silver-level Ride Center (one of only 11 in the world!). Slaughter Pen is what happens when there is cooperation between a city and its riders. It’s one of the prime examples of urban singletrack and serves as a model for cities around the country. With miles of varying trails spread out over three phases, there is plenty of riding for every skill level. Several of the trails have optional lines with log rides, drops, jumps, or wall rides, all with bypasses for less aggressive riders. There is a freeride area with a few downhill runs, big drops, and table tops. It’s also perfectly situated with connections to Lake Bella Vista and the Blowing Springs trails.
Distance from Rogers: 0! It’s right in town. Mileage: Varies Difficulty: Beginner to expert
This urban bike park is a local’s dream come true: world-class terrain, jumps, and obstacles all right in the heart of Rogers. Literally right downtown, riders of all ages and skill levels can jump, huck, wall ride, pump and shred on professionally built, crisscrossing trails and obstacles, including its signature train car. It’s the perfect place to introduce new, young, riders to the sport, or for experienced riders to hone their skills. It’s also connected to the 40 miles of paved bike paths that weave through town and to the Atalanta trail system.
Distance from Rogers: 31 miles Mileage: 25+ miles Difficulty: Easy to advanced
Lake Leatherwood is where riders go to test their climbing legs. Punchy, techy, climbs and diverse terrain make for balanced rides that challenge several biking skills. Be sure to hit Miner’s Rock Trail. The ascent is tough, but the unusual namesake rock formation and meandering downhill make it all worth it. Keep a lookout for bald eagles soaring above.
Distance from Rogers: 13 miles Mileage: 6 miles Difficulty: Easy to advanced
Coler’s design is genius. The trails start from “The Hub,” a central intersection at the highest point, where riders group, talk trash, and choose their routes downhill. They meet again at the bottom and select their routes back uphill. Riders of all levels have options suitable to their abilities, from rolling, casual greens to 12-foot drops, all set among lush woodlands.
Distance from Rogers: 13 miles Mileage: 22 miles Difficulty: Moderate
If there is time for only one ride while in Arkansas, this may be it. This trail was professionally built FOR mountain bikes BY mountain bikers, and proudly boasts some of the most varied, scenic, interesting, terrain for two wheels. Riders roll over a hanging bridge built into a bluff, cross streams, pass by waterfalls, and can rail berms, jump rollers, and lock into the flow all day long.
8. Hidden Diversity Multi-Use Trail/Hobbs State Park
Distance from Rogers: 14 miles Mileage: 24 miles Difficulty: Easy to intermediate
Smooth, fast, and unique—that’s the best way to quickly describe this place. Nestled in deep pine forest, it’s a little different from the Ozark-esque woods closer to Rogers. This is the place to go if the other trails are muddy. Great for single-speeders and moderate riders who want to push their cornering and flow rather than hucking and bashing through technical trails.
Distance from Rogers: 73 miles Mileage: 40 miles Difficulty: Easy to advanced
This is one of five IMBA Epic Rides in Arkansas. Piercing deep into the Ozark National Forest, this truly adventurous ride has everything: tight ribbons of singletrack with long climbs, longer descents, rock gardens, creek crossings, you name it. The overall difficulty is intermediate, with short sections of both easier and harder sections here and there. If this mileage seems like too much, it’s easy to trim it down. Bring the camera for this one, the scenery is stunning, with Instagram-worthy steep cliffs, sweeping vistas, crystal-blue waterfalls and lots of wildlife, all in old-growth hardwood forests.
Distance from Rogers: 25 miles Mileage: 7 miles Difficulty: Moderate to advanced
Mt. Kessler is in Fayetteville, itself an IMBA Bronze-level Ride Center. Ride tight singletrack, challenging rock gardens and through house-sized boulders while traversing beneath the shade of old-growth forest and steep, moss-covered bluffs. Even though it is close to town, there’s a distinct, quiet, backcountry feel to the area. Do not miss riding through the mini-slot canyon on Rock City or the views from the top of Spellbound.

Northwest Arkansas Mountain Bike Trails: Best in Nation
Northwest Arkansas has more than 250 miles of top-tier mountain bike trails, offering cyclists one of the best singletrack experiences in the nation.
With the rugged terrain of the Ozarks, and one of the most progressive cycling cultures in the country, Northwest Arkansas has invested in an impressive infrastructure. Trails include downhill runs with shuttles, a best-in-class jump park, pump tracks and skills courses.

Not long ago, garbage dotted the 500-acre Novi North Park. Under the dedicated care of local Michigan Mountain Biking Association members, however, the park has become an example of urban renewal. Gone is most of the garbage, leaving a pleasant underused trail with trilliums and marigolds highlighting the spring months. The singletrack meanders through an old fruit orchard and a Christmas tree farm. Local riders are meeting ongoing interest from the City of Novi to develop the area into a golf course. The trail, however, needs more riders in order to justify its existence. Tree Farm map PDF

If you double the length of Pontiac Lake and replace the rocks with roots, you have Poto. Trails from 1.9 to 17.5 miles round trip. Biking season: All year (8 a.m. to 10 p.m.).

Island Lake
One-way, closed-loop, singletrack that can be ridden all in one shot or divided between two loops. Terrain is mostly flat through gentle rolling grasslands with some medium length gradual climbs. While weekends are very crowded (50+ cars parked) the trails are almost completely empty during the week (3-5 cars) except for evenings in the Fall. More experienced riders will find these trails a great place to spin all out. Some can finish all 13 miles in less than 45 minutes. The yellow trail is more technical, but not overly challenging. The Blue trail is mostly flat with a couple of hills that can catch you off guard. There are some nice downhills and uphills. These trails are a great place to introduce a beginner to the sport of Mountain Biking. Experts will find it mildly entertaining. Good intermediate level trail.
Island Lake Map
Brighton Rec Area Trail
There are two trails: Torn Shirt and Murray Lake. Murray Lake is the easier of the two and is total of 9.2 miles in length. There are tight singletracks as well as fast sections. I would recommend for the beginner to intermediate riders. You can even cut the loop by 2 miles by forgoing the Lost Loop at the 2.7 mile marker. Torn Shirt is about 6 miles in length and is little bit more technical. Both loops start and return at the same parking area.

The best cycling routes in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region
Natalya Khoruzhaya
loves to explore St. Petersburg on a bike
Author profile
In May 2020, when everything was closed in St. Petersburg due to coronavirus restrictions, we bought with a young man bicycles.
From April to mid-October we ride two or three times a week. In the summer we go for bike rides almost every evening, and on white nights we ride until the morning. If we go to the Leningrad region, we spend the whole day in nature.
I enjoy cycling: I get to see a lot more than I do on foot. Unlike car trips, I can stop at any moment and go wherever I want. It is also sports and cardio. Recently, we have begun to use a bicycle as a means of transport – we go to a store, a clinic, or some other place on business.
I stopped at Vyborgskaya embankment, where one of the most favorite and convenient routes for me passes
Sunset in Murinsky Park
I stopped at Vyborgskaya embankment, where one of my favorite and most convenient routes passes Sunset in Murinsky Park
I prefer to ride in areas remote from the city center. I didn’t cycle on Nevsky Prospekt, but I did visit Palace Square and Field of Mars. There are always a lot of people in the center of St. Petersburg, there are no dedicated lanes for cyclists, and I am afraid to ride on the roads because of crazy drivers.
In the article I will tell you where to get a bike for walking and what routes I like to ride outside the center of St. Petersburg and in the Leningrad region. Their length is from 1 to 15 kilometers. Many routes can be changed as you like. I marked the starting points for bike rugs on the map:
What I will tell you
where to get the bicycle

We took the purchase of bicycles seriously: we looked at reviews, read reviews and monitored the bicycle market in St. Petersburg. We did not plan to take expensive bikes and settled on the models of the German Horst brand. It was important for us that they were beautiful, with an aluminum frame. Each cost 22,000 rubles. wheels, the brakes broke and the carriage banged. But we knew that this happens with inexpensive models, so we never regretted the purchase.
In May 2022, such a model – Horst Spector 27.5 – costs 30,120 R. Source: velodrive.ru
Bicycle sharing. If you are not planning to buy a bike, I advise you to pay attention to the only SmartBike bicycle sharing in the city. It has more than 2,000 bikes in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad region. To rent, you need to register in the application, select a bike, a tariff and attach a bank card.
SmartBike App: Epstor, Google Play
Bicycle sharing has two tariffs – “Minute” and “Walk”. At the first minute of the trip it costs 4 R. Before renting a bike, the account must have at least 240 R. It will be written off exactly as much as you skated. With the “Walk” tariff, you can ride for two hours for 360 R. If you drive five extra minutes, the money for them will be written off at the minute rate.
Bicycle sharing group on Vkontakte
SmartBike also has three subscriptions: “Week”, “Month” and “Season”. A “week” costs 600 R, a monthly subscription will cost 1200 R. “Season” is valid from April to November and costs 3500 R. All subscriptions work on the same principle: you can ride an unlimited number of times a day, but trips should last up to half an hour from at least 15 minutes apart. If you drive more than 30 minutes at a time, you will pay 1 R for each extra minute.

Rental. There are many places in the city where bicycles are rented on bail. Before buying our own, we looked at the prices at the Pokatushkin rental: it is located not far from our house. Renting a city bike costs 200 R per hour or 800 R per day. Mountain rental will cost 300 R per hour or 900 R per day. The deposit is 2,000 R and documents or 6,000 R without documents for a city bike and 12,000 R for a mountain bike.
Large selection of bicycles in Velodrive and Velograd. There are many different models in Velodrive: there are urban, mountain, folding, comfort class and BMX for extreme driving. An hour of renting any bike costs 200 R, a day – 1200 R. There are also tariffs “Week” for 4000 R and “Month” for 8000 R. In addition, bicycle seats, helmets and reflective vests are provided for rent. The deposit is from 2,000 to 10,000 R. The company has many rental points throughout St. Petersburg. They also sell bicycles. We just bought ours here.
Velograd also offers different categories for rent: from simple city bikes to tandem bikes for two. An hour of renting most bikes costs 200 RUR, and a tandem bike costs 600 RUR. A day of rent will cost 900–1000 RUR, a tandem rental costs 2000 RUR. In addition, you can take a bicycle seat, a phone holder and a backpack. Velograd has several tariffs. For example, a weekly ride on a city bike costs 2800 RUR, on a sports bike – 3500 RUR. The deposit is from 1000 to 5000 RUR. The rental is located in the center, next to the Sennaya Ploshchad metro station.
Yelagin Island
Location: in the Petrogradsky district. Beginning of the route: on the 3rd Elagin bridge. Complete route: on the map. Length: is almost 4 kilometers.
Yelagin Island is loved by all my friends and acquaintances. The Central Park of Culture and Leisure named after Kirov is located here. People come here for family vacations, dates, and just to meet friends.
There are also many cyclists here, but there is enough space for everyone: there are many paths in the park, you can make different routes. Narrow paths are not strewn with anything – you just ride on the ground. There are wide paved paths, but there are a lot of people on them.
The whole park is difficult to walk around: it is huge. Therefore, coming here by bike is a great idea. True, this can only be done on weekdays. On weekends and holidays, the park administration prohibits entering the territory of the Central Park of Culture and Culture with a bicycle.
I like to ride in the park and just sit on the grass and enjoy the silence. Source: Katvic / Shutterstock Entrance to the Central Park of Culture and Culture is free on weekdays, and costs 100 RUR on weekends. Source: Andrey Kulikov
What else to do. There are two museums in the park – the Elaginoostrovsky Palace Museum and the Museum of Artistic Glass. The palace was built by order of Emperor Alexander the First. The permanent exhibition of the museum is the main halls, in which the interior of the early 19century. Entrance costs 150 R. The Museum of Artistic Glass presents more than 700 exhibits made of glass and crystal. The ticket will cost 200 RUR. Here, geese and ducks are bred on mini-farms, there are swans with squirrels. In the ponds of the park, kayaks, catamarans and boats are enjoyed. Rent costs from 400 R per hour.
After the Central Park of Culture and Culture, you can go to Krestovsky Island, which is a five-minute bike ride away. I will talk about it further in the article.
Benois Garden and Sosnovka Park
Location: in Kalininsky and Vyborgsky districts. Beginning of the route: at the intersection of Vedeneeva Street with Nauki Avenue. Complete route: on the map. Length: 4 kilometers.
Benois Garden and Sosnovka is a haven for cyclists. I like to get to Sosnovka through the Benois Garden, which is calm and not crowded. In the garden, you can relax on the benches, organize a picnic by the lake and view the sculptures. Every season new art objects appear here.
It’s great to race in Sosnovka and come up with different routes: there are many wide tracks in the park. There are also sparsely crowded winding paths with bumps, but I don’t like to ride on them.
/list/spb-parks/
Cherry blossoms and sea views: 10 beautiful gardens and parks in St. Petersburg
There are benches throughout the park – there are many of them, enough for everyone. Only the roads have lanterns – in the Benois garden there is enough such lighting, but in Sosnovka it is dark in the evening.
What else to do. In the garden there is the Ferma restaurant, where weddings and holidays are held, and the Benois center, which has various clubs for children and teenagers. A child can be enrolled in chess, English, robotics, theater, vocals. A one-time lesson costs from 800 RUR.
People come to Sosnovka to play sports: there are free courts for playing badminton, volleyball, and basketball. There are also street trainers. In summer, the park hosts a big cycling festival – a traditional race around Sosnovka along an eight-kilometer route. In 2022, it will take place in June, the exact date will be announced in the event group on Vkontakte.
Neva embankments
Location: in the Central, Kalininsky and Krasnogvardeisky districts. Beginning of the route: Liteiny bridge next to the metro station “Ploshchad Lenina”. Complete route: on the map. Length: 10 kilometers.
The route passes along four embankments: Arsenalnaya and Sverdlovskaya are located on the right bank of the Neva, and Voskresenskaya and Smolnaya are on the left. To drive along the entire route, you will have to ride along the Liteiny and Bolsheokhtinsky bridges that connect the embankments. It is unpleasant to ride along them: there are no dedicated lanes, and cyclists ride next to pedestrians. I always go on foot and roll my bike nearby. It’s more comfortable for me.
Despite the bridges, it seems to me that this is the most comfortable route for skiing near the city center: there are spacious walking and cycling lanes on the embankments. It is pleasant and easy to walk here: it breathes with calmness and peace.
/faq-lenoblast/
What to see in St. Petersburg and the Leningrad Region
What else to do. This is almost the center of St. Petersburg – there are cafes and restaurants everywhere. In April and May, there are many fishermen on the embankments: this is the season for smelt. There is the Tauride Garden near Voskresenskaya Embankment. You can go there to relax and feed the ducks.
Murinsky park
Location: in the Kalininsky district. Beginning of the route: at the intersection of Lunacharsky Avenue with Rustaveli Street. Complete route: on the map. Length: 5 kilometers.
Murinsky park is divided into three parts. One was specially allocated for cycling, skateboarding, rollerblading and scooters. There are slides, winding paths and hills. The paths are mostly wide, with a smooth asphalt surface. Cracks and holes have already appeared in some places. It seems to me that it is still convenient to learn to ride here.
The remaining parts of the park are occupied by other paved bike paths along the Murinsky creek and a walking area. Here people relax, have picnics. Sometimes we bought buns and sat next to the stream at sunset.
/list/spb-parks-weekend/
12 parks in St. Petersburg and beyond where it is good to relax on the weekends
There are no street lamps along almost the entire length of Murinsky Park and annoying mosquitoes interfere. But we were glad when we accidentally found this place. Then they came here every day and everyone could not run over.
What else to do. The park has playgrounds, and nearby is the Rodeo Drive shopping and entertainment complex, where you can visit cafes, shops, a water park and a cinema. A ticket to the water park costs from 500 RUR, and a movie session – from 300 RUR. Beginning of the route: Sampsonievsky bridge near Pirogovskaya embankment. Complete route: on the map. Length: 5.5 kilometers.
The route runs along Petrogradskaya, Aptekarskaya, Vyborgskaya and Pirogovskaya embankments. They are connected by Sampsonievsky, Grenadier and Kantemirovsky bridges. These embankments are similar to the embankments of the Neva: they are just as wide, here everyone can disperse and not interfere with each other.
There are business buildings on both sides of the river. In the evenings, there is a magnificent view of the sunset. Lanterns are on the roadway, and this light is enough to avoid crashing into something.
What else to do. The cruiser Avrora is located on Petrogradskaya Embankment. Entrance to the museum costs 400 R for an adult. Here visitors can see how the ship works and learn about the history of the cruiser.
On the Aptekarskaya embankment you can go to the botanical garden. I haven’t been here yet, but I plan to. The large garden has a greenhouse and several hiking trails. Tickets cost from 100 RUR. Beginning of the route: at the intersection of Morskoy Prospekt with Ryukhina Street. Complete route: on the map. Length: 4 kilometers.
The Primorsky Victory Park on Krestovsky Island is good for hiking and cycling. There are many wide paved paths, but there are also narrow, unpaved ones. It is better to come to the park on weekdays: there are fewer people.
On the Northern Road you can go to the Yacht Bridge, and along it you can get to the 300th Anniversary Park. The bridge offers a beautiful view of the Gulf of Finland. Along the South Road there is a beach and a walking wooden area, where they also ride bicycles.

20 unusual sights of St. Petersburg
There are many people on Krestovsky Island when football matches are held at the Gazprom Arena stadium. It’s better not to come here at this time. On the western side of the stadium, near the Zenit metro station, there is another walking area, but I don’t like it: something is always being built, repaired or blocked here.
What else to do. On Krestovsky Island there is an amusement park “Divo-Ostrov” with entertainment for children and adults. A ticket for extreme attractions costs 200-700 R. I liked riding one of the roller coasters. A trip on a large Ferris wheel will cost 300 RUR.
An eco-biological center operates on the island, where children study the world of plants and animals for free. They can also visit the free mini zoo with goats, rabbits and other animals.
Karpovka river embankment
Location: in the Petrogradsky district. Beginning of the route: at the monument to the doctors who died from covid. Complete route: on the map. Length: 1 km.
This short route starts on a road closed to cars: only employees of the nearby hospital enter with passes. After that, the walking area begins, and a good bike path stretches along it.
No matter how many times I came here, there were always few people. Perhaps not everyone knows about this place. I myself found the recreation area by accident due to the desire to explore St. Petersburg on a bicycle. It is pleasant to walk here, there are playgrounds, swings and benches.
/list/unusual-walks-spb/
14 unusual excursions in St. Petersburg
What else to do. On the left side of the Karpovka River there is a botanical garden, which I described above. On the right is the Academician Pavlov Museum, where exhibits of the history of medicine and medical education have been kept since 19century to the present day. Exhibitions can only be visited as part of excursions, such as “Microbes in Human Life” or “Zoological Cabinet of Curiosities”. Each costs 2500 R for a group of up to 25 people. Applications are accepted by phone +7 812 338-67-34 or by mail [email protected].
Piskarevsky prospect
Location: in the Kalininsky district. Starting point: near Piskarevka railway station. Complete route: on the map. Length: 3.5 kilometers.
Bicycle paths are located on Piskarevsky Prospekt towards Sverdlovskaya Embankment. For me, this is one of the best cycling routes: it is convenient to ride here. Two-lane paths are separated from sidewalks and the roadway — you can not be afraid of cars and not interfere with pedestrians.
There are no high curbs along the entire avenue and smooth descents are organized. There are practically no pits – you can go fast. I love this site not because of the views, but because of the comfortable ride.
/spb-kalininskiy/
How life is in the Kalininsky district of St. Petersburg
What else to do. There are shops, cafes and various parks along the entire route. For example, it is convenient to stop by Pionersky and Polyustrovskiy parks, Academician Sakharov park. I like the well-groomed Lyubashinsky garden most of all. There is a sports ground and a beautiful fountain, you can also have a picnic.
Primorsky avenue and Savushkina street
Location: in the Primorsky district. Beginning of the route: next to the Ushakovsky bridge. Complete route: on the map. Length: 6 kilometers.
This is a long route along the Bolshaya Nevka. It connects the metro station “Chernaya Rechka” and the park of the 300th anniversary of St. Petersburg. There are no benches on the route, walking here is not very comfortable. Therefore, there are few pedestrians on the avenue, but many cyclists.
In the direction of the park, I always ride against the wind – I find it difficult to pedal. But on this route you can pump up your legs. Even from Primorsky Prospekt, beautiful views of the Central Park of Culture and Culture open up when you drive past Yelagin Island.
What else to do. The Park of the 300th Anniversary of St. Petersburg is located near the Gulf of Finland – it’s great to sit on the sandy shore and enjoy the views of the Lakhta Center and the Western High-Speed Diameter highway. Near the park there is a shopping center “Piterland” with shops, cafes and a water park, a ticket to which costs 1700 R for three hours on a day off for an adult.
Piskarevsky forest park
Location: in Kalininsky district. Route start: next to the building of the academy of the Zenit football club. Complete route: on the map. Length: 3 kilometers.
The Piskarevsky forest park is practically not ennobled: there are only benches and trash cans, and they are already old. On the other hand, there are many paths in the park – you can build different routes and ride even on not very trodden paths.
The tracks have no surface – only the ground. Therefore, I do not recommend coming here after the rains: it gets dirty. It’s also not worth riding in the park when it’s dark: there are no lights here.
On weekends people come just for a walk, and on weekdays many people come with their dogs. Some run without muzzles and leashes – it’s scary to be near them. Fortunately, the forest park is large – 116 hectares – so you can easily find deserted places and retire. Despite the shortcomings, I like to relax here.

How I traveled around Russia on a bike
What else to do. In the warm season, free yoga classes are held in the forest park in the morning. They run here all year round, we love it too. In winter, the paths are sprinkled with crumbs – running is not slippery. There is also a sports ground on the territory, although it is already rusty, and a place for dog training. Near the forest park, near the Zenit Academy, there is a walking area with benches.

Pike Lake
Location: in the Kurortny district, northwest of the village of Komarovo. Starting point: railway station Komarovo. Complete route: on the map. Length: almost 4 km to the lake and 5 km to bypass the lake. How to get to the start: by train from Finlyandsky railway station to Komarov. Travel time is 50 minutes. The ticket costs 94 RUR, the transportation of a bicycle is 43 RUR. From the railway station to the lake, another 20 minutes by bike.
Pike lake is one of my favorite places in the Leningrad region. The road from Komarov passes through streets with country houses and tall trees. There are old wooden buildings with carved shutters and beautiful modern cottages.
There are many small trails along the entire lake – you can ride in different directions. There are also improved paths with benches and gazebos. It is interesting to ride bike tracks with bumps and snags. You can have fun and relax in the fresh air. Once we saw children who arranged a bike race with a coach. They drove very fast: it was clear that the paths were familiar to them.
/lets-go-velopvd/
How much does a weekend cycling tour cost? I didn’t even imagine that they could be so big: with my height of 170 centimeters, they reached my waist level. The anthills were fenced off so that people would not step on them and break them.
What else to do. You can stop by the village of Komarovo, where there is a natural monument “Komarovskiy Bereg” with spruce forests and sandy beaches on the Gulf of Finland.
Big Simaginskoye Lake
Location: in the Vyborg district, north of Zelenogorsk. Starting point: railway station Zelenogorsk. Complete route: on the map. Length: 7.5 kilometers from the station and 8 kilometers to bypass the lake. How to get to the start: by train from Finlyandsky railway station to Zelenogorsk. Travel time is 55 minutes. The ticket costs 107 RUR, the transportation of a bicycle is 43 RUR. From the railway station to the lake, it takes another 40-50 minutes by bike, first through the park, and then along the roadway.
A large section of the road from the railway station to the lake is located on the roadway. Cars are racing here, sometimes I get scared. But around the big lake, you can ride on sparsely populated trails and enjoy nature, silence and fresh air. The paths were not equipped here: there is land everywhere, there are only wooden passages over the streams.

I rode a bike from St. Petersburg to Moscow
On my first bike ride, I just went to Big Simaginskoye Lake. When it was halfway to the reservoir, my chain fell off. Fortunately, I was with a young man who fixed it.
What else to do. Relax on the beach. True, it is small and cramped. I didn’t swim, but I saw that people had to walk far in the water to get deeper.
There is also a Veresk restaurant on the lake. I didn’t go there, but here are a few examples of prices from the menu: risotto with mushrooms — 760 R, salad with turkey and spicy pineapple — 510 R, tom yum with shrimp — 780 R.

Lindulovskaya Grove
Location: in the Vyborg district, near the village of Roshchino. Starting point: railway station Roschino. Complete route: on the map. Length: 3.5 kilometers from the station to the grove and 5.5 kilometers along the grove itself. How to get to the start: by train from Finlyandsky railway station to Roschino station. Travel time is 1 hour 5 minutes. The ticket costs 127 R, the carriage of a bicycle is 43 R. From the railway station to the grove, it takes about 20 minutes to ride a bike.
Lindulovskaya Grove is a specially protected area in the Leningrad Region. Here, larches are preserved, which were artificially planted back in the 18th century. Siskins, finches, bank voles, squirrels, white hares and other animals live in the grove.
A wooden path is being built in the reserve: somewhere it has already been laid, and somewhere there are only pegs for the future path. There are a lot of steps here – sometimes you have to carry the bike on the ground. Otherwise, I like to ride on a wooden path: there is a feeling of “waves”.
There are a lot of tussocks, protruding roots and no streetlights in the grove, but the view and the atmosphere are worth it to come. I feel good here: I can breathe fresh air, be in silence, listen to the stream and birdsong and enjoy the smell of larches. There are few people in the reserve – no one interferes with anyone.

Bolshoe Borkovo Lake
Location: in the Priozersky district, east of the village of Orekhovo. Starting point: railway station Orekhovo. Complete route: on the map. Length: 2 kilometers from the station and 5.5 kilometers to bypass the lake. How to get to the start: by train from Finlyandsky railway station to Orekhovo. Travel time is 1 hour 26 minutes. The ticket costs 181 RUR, the transportation of a bicycle is 43 RUR. From the railway station to the lake, it takes about 15 more minutes by bike.
The road from the railway station to the lake is very dusty – sometimes I coughed because of this, and sand gnashed on my teeth. But I advise you to come here: there is amazing nature around, there is where to swim and comfortably ride on the hills.
There are several beaches here. Those closer to the entrance to the lake are overcrowded, it is better to move away. I liked that the entrance to the lake is not muddy and the water is refreshing. But she did not swim for a long time: at the depth of the bottom it is not visible at all.
What else to do. There are several recreation centers on the territory. For example, in the country club “Nut” a double room costs from 2000 R per day, and a house with three bedrooms – from 9500 R. The price depends on the season and day of the week.

proven cycle routes in the center and on the outskirts of Moscow
Every year, hundreds of thousands of Muscovites look forward to the start of the cycling season. And indeed, in Moscow there are places to ride: in the coolness of parks and flowering gardens, you can combine business with pleasure, and a trip along the embankments and through the historical center will become not only fascinating, but also informative.
We tell you which metropolitan cycling routes are the most popular among fans of pedaling, and why you do not need to have your own iron horse.

Needless to say, riding a personal bike through the most beautiful places in the capital is as easy as shelling pears: there are almost 800 kilometers of dedicated lanes and paths on city streets and parks.
If you haven’t got an iron horse yet, it’s not a problem: the network of bike rental stations in Moscow is extremely extensive and is growing every year – now there are almost half a thousand of them. How to use the “bike for an hour” (or maybe two or three) can be found on the website of the Moscow bike rental.

to be more precise – from the Crimean bridge and the Muzeon park) to the Victory Park. The width of the bike path is three meters, so oncoming traffic flows calmly. In the general unhurried traffic, even beginners feel at ease and get aesthetic pleasure from modern landscape design. A two-wheeled promenade passes through the Neskuchny Garden and Sparrow Hills, along the Moskva River. And among the experienced, this route is referred to as “4 bridges”.
If you turn right from Vorobyovskaya embankment – to Berezhkovskaya and Taras Shevchenko embankment – you can drive to Moscow City and see three more bridges – Borodinsky, Novoarbatsky and the Bagration bridge. This route will be shorter by 3 kilometers, but this will make it no less picturesque, the view of the Ukraina Hotel alone is worth something. More precisely, it doesn’t cost anything – after all, you don’t ride a taxi, but a “bike” and without traffic jams.

And although the length of the cycle path is only 9 kilometers, it is still better to choose it for cyclists with extensive experience, who feel confident in a dense stream of cars. As you travel along Tsvetnoy and Strastnoy boulevards and the Garden Ring, you will be able to visit Pushkin Square and Patriarch’s Ponds, Tverskaya and Novy Arbat, admire the Mossovet Theater and the Satire Theater, the Aquarium Garden, the Bulgakov Museum and the Garden Triumphal Square.

For confident cyclists and promising beginners, there is a longer route along the banks of the Moskva River. The Losiny Ostrov National Park is the largest forest area within the borders of Moscow, and in this corner of semi-wild nature it’s easy there could not be bike paths or bike paths. In the dense thicket of the forest, you can breathe plenty of fresh air, feed squirrels from your hand and even meet an elk. And if you suddenly get lost and you will be brought to the Upper Yauz swamps – say hello to the beavers.
Therefore, it is better to start the forest route from Babaevsky Pond, where there is an observation deck and an island of civilization in the form of a bike rental. Then you drive along the Abramtsevo clearing to the Paper clearing, and, before reaching the Clinical Hospital, move north – to the Elk Biological Station, the Elk Pond and the Glade of Fairy Tales.

However, some bikers in the parks are not looking for peace at all, but for real extreme sports. Such pros can recommend the BMX complex in Lianozovo, equipped with ramps and jumps. The complex of figures of impressive size for training athletes of all levels of training in the Altufyevo Manor Park is really huge – it covers an area of 2500 square meters. Every day more than 150 people “roll” here, and the noiseless coating does not disturb the peace of the residents of the nearest houses. There is also a “civilian” bike path 1.3 kilometers long.
The Düsseldorf Park in Maryino also has a BMX velodrome for extreme cyclists. And for less active skiing enthusiasts – the park of the 850th anniversary of Moscow, stretching along the Moskva River. The famous Maryino-Kapotnya bike path, 5.4 kilometers long, is considered by cyclists to be one of the best in the capital. In addition, you can safely ride in the small parks of the district – Bratislava, the park named after the heroes of the Patriotic War of 1812 and the park named after Artem Borovik.
A bike park with a dirt pump track on Nagornaya is within walking distance from the Nagornaya metro station or 1.5 kilometers from the Verkhnie Kotly MCC station. By the way, we remind you that the transport of a bicycle on an electric train is free. Fili and Krylatskoe: feel the difference
Moskva river embankment in Fili park. Photo: PKiO Fili
To begin with, we note that after the large-scale complex reconstruction of the Fili Park, riding here is a pleasure: there are many bike paths (8 kilometers) and several slides, but the best place for a relaxing ride in Fili is the picturesque Moscow embankment – rivers.
In addition, you can continue the cycling fili-ride on the rowing canal or cycle track in Krylatskoye. But this is a completely different pleasure. No, don’t think anything bad: Krylatskoye is a great place for both professionals and amateurs, but with one important condition – the cyclist must be in equally good physical shape.
The fact is that the cycle track has a large elevation difference, steep ascents and high-speed descents, on which experienced riders reach speeds of under 100 km/h! So cheating – it won’t work, and if you already stopped at Krylatskoye – you will have to give everything to the fullest. And follow the traffic rules.
Southern routes in Bitsevsky park

Everyone will find the ideal route in this park for themselves, regardless of preferences and sports training. Fans of a quiet ride will direct their bikes to paved paths, and extreme sportsmen will replace skiers in the summer – in ravines and on small slalom mountains with jumps. And you can combine calm along the paths and paths with steep climbs and fast descents.
One of the most popular routes is Bitsevsky Park – st. Chertanovskaya” with a length of 7.5 kilometers, which starts near the metro station “Bitsevsky Park” and goes deep into the forest along the paths. The main thing here is to look under the wheels: this is still a forest, which means there can be knots, holes and mounds on the path. Therefore, it is easier and safer to follow the bike path from the Belyaevo station: along Miklukho-Maklaya Street through Bitsevsky Park to the Chertanovskaya metro station.

A smooth, very comfortable bike path runs through the entire Izmailovsky Park – with signs and lighting. The route begins in Terletsky passage and runs along the central alley of the Terletsky forest park: roll yourself calmly in the shade of trees along Svobodny Prospekt, Bolshoi Kupavensky passage – so along Izmailovsky Park and roll up to the Big Ferris Wheel. The total bike ride is 10 kilometers. And for lovers of extreme sports in Izmailovsky Park there is a special springboard.
There are dozens of options for cycling routes in Kuzminki Park, because there is a large and really extensive network of flat paths. So, if you wish, you can not get up from the saddle for 2-3 hours, or you can keep within half an hour – in this case, there is a bike rental in the park near the cinema. On the bike path passing by the Ponomarka River, it is possible to overcome 8 picturesque kilometers in 40 minutes: move at least to the Kuzminovsky Ponds, at least to the Shibaevsky Pond or the Lytkarinsky Forest – in the end you will still return to the starting location.

Just 5 years ago, Moscow cyclists complained that the area along the Yauza – with diverse architecture and many parks, narrow Euro-streets and amazing nature – is not very suitable for riding. Today, the route that connects the Moscow region and the center of the capital attracts both experienced cyclists and lovers of pedaling for their own pleasure. For example, you can drive along the new well-maintained bike paths from Sokolniki Park to Mytishchi, which is about 20 kilometers. Bicycle parking, signs and lighting appeared here, and a drive under the Moscow Ring Road was made. As they say, there is no limit to perfection, so further bicycle improvement continues: in the future, the route along the Yauza can stretch for about 40 kilometers.

Experienced bikers also say that it is on a warm summer night that you absolutely and absolutely need to take a bike ride around Moscow. Because at night the capital appears in a different light: buildings and bridges, trees and lawns are beautifully and brightly lit, and skiing in already familiar places turns into a real romantic journey.
For romantics, 9 kilometers is not a detour, so call your half on a special night route from Moscow City to Red Square. During this walk, you can admire the magnificent night views of the capital: the hotel “Ukraine”, the Kyiv railway station and Europe Square, the Borodino bridge, the Government House and the Rostov embankment.

1000 kilometers in Singapore. As I ride my bike on one of the… | by gilmary
How I ride a bike in one of the smallest countries in the world
For as long as I can remember, cycling has always helped me out.
During my student life in Tyumen, I traveled 10 kilometers a day to and from the university. Then it became a means of transportation for me, now in Singapore it is the only way to travel during the coronavirus pandemic: due to closed borders, bike tours to different parts of the city have replaced trips to other countries.
It will not be difficult to cross Singapore from north to south and from west to east: the island is only 27 kilometers long and 50 kilometers wide. Such distances are subject to everyone. But to go around the whole city along its coast, it will take from five to eight hours and strong nerves – more than 150 kilometers will not pass by themselves.
For anyone who has ever wanted to ride on two wheels in one of the smallest countries in the world, I’ll tell you something better: how to drive over 1000 kilometers in Singapore and enjoy it.
Local cycling culture
Due to its proximity to the equator, Singapore is hot and muggy, so few people pedal here on their way to work.
It is common to ride a bike in the parks on weekends with friends or family. On the reverse side of this medal are fans and fans of road cycling, which can be seen at dawn along local highways or drinking beer in a bar after a many-kilometer ride. At first I belonged to the first group, then I got involved and now I ride with amateurs, but not with fans: I still can’t keep up with their speeds of 25-30 km / h.
Bike lanes in Singapore are being built as part of a citywide park network called PCN or Park Connector Networks. It connects all the green areas of the city to each other in different routes and one large Round Island Route 150 kilometers long, which can be walked or cycled.
One of the cycle paths is laid along the Formula 1 track
This network of paths is very convenient for traveling around the city, but it has to be shared with pedestrians, who are very difficult to bypass on a bicycle. On the sidewalks, the speed is limited to 10 km/h, on bike paths – up to 25 km/h, and on the roads you can drive on a par with cars: the main thing is not to go onto expressways and drive in the extreme left lane.
Although there are fewer cars in Singapore than in any other metropolitan area in the world due to high car taxes, the traffic on the roads is very active. Therefore, it is best to always wear a helmet and have front and rear lights so that riders can see the bike.
Where to buy or rent a bike in Singapore?
Rental: Coastline Leisure in Bicycle Hut downtown, in the park along the sea.
Buy: new from Decathlon, supported on Carousell or in dedicated Facebook groups.
Public bike sharing: Mobike, SG Bike and Anywheel.
In some parts of the city, such as Sentosa Island, bike lanes are built right along the highway, which is wide enough there. But in the rest of the city they are connected with sidewalks and are lines drawn on footpaths, nothing separated from each other.
There are now more than 400 km of cycle paths in Singapore, and it is planned that by 2030 their length will reach 1320 km.
Singapore is known as a fine city, and there are fines for cyclists too: for example, you cannot pedal with your phone in your hand. For this, they can be fined $1,000 (50,000₽) or jailed for three months. I don’t know how I haven’t been caught yet, because I constantly take pictures of my trips when I find them.
How to do 1000 kilometers around the island?
In September 2020, I bought my first bike in Singapore and immediately rode along the local canals to the very center of the city. At first, I really liked going to skyscrapers: this 20 km long route seemed like a great end to the working day.
It may seem that this is the easiest way to hit the coveted thousand: you just need to go 50 times from home to the center and back, but I quickly got tired of it. I really wanted to ride among nature untouched by man, so I switched to wilder directions and started pedaling away from the center.
In December 2020, I completed my first 1000 kilometers in Singapore and bought a road bike. Now it’s easy for me to drive 50 kilometers at a time.
From the city center you can go in any direction. The most popular route is East Coast Park, which stretches along the sea. There is nothing better than the sight of ships on the horizon!
Without them, it is impossible to imagine Singapore: it is a port, so you have to sail here with full understanding that oil tankers are standing a few tens of kilometers from the coast. They definitely add color to our lives, often black oil.
After East Coast Park, the bike path continues along the airport along Tanah Merah Road to the easternmost point of the city. From there, Malaysia is perfectly visible, as well as other islands, Singapore: one of them, Pulau Ubin, can be sailed by ferry along with a bicycle.
There’s a very cool brewery, a cheap Malay food court, and a monument pointing up at the planes flying by.
It is also easy to travel from the center to the Sentosa beach island, where cycle paths take everyone to the sand and the sea or the establishments overlooking the parked yachts. In the Sentosa Cove area, you can gawk at some of the most expensive houses in Singapore with glass walls and private pools.
The coolest thing is to leave the bike where you have to and swim in the sea. And the most unpleasant thing is the hilly terrain of the island: it is not easy to pedal on it, but it is definitely good for your health.
Journeys around East Coast Park and Sentosa are within the reach of anyone, even on a squeaky rental bike. More interesting and longer routes require effort and are rewarded with great views.
Especially if you drive to the north of Singapore. Unlike the city center, there are fewer bike paths that are logically connected. More often you have to look at the map and build routes between parks through trial and error. But what reservoirs are there, filled with water, with green trees to the horizon!
My favorite route is through the local ghetto.
Yishun is considered to be the ugliest area of the city. Terrifying news from Singapore constantly comes from there: a policeman with a shocker was attacked there, a drug syndicate is operating there, they are fighting off an invasion of rats.
In appearance, the place does not differ from any residential area on the outskirts of a Russian city: high-rise buildings all around, painted in bright colors, parking lots and playgrounds. And the district itself is divided into neighborhoods, which remind me of the districts from the Hunger Games movie. Luckily, I always made it out unscathed.
A curious discovery for me was the fact that there are not one, but three airports in Singapore. The largest Changi serves international flights, the other two serve military and private jets.
Passing Seletar Airport is interesting to drive for several reasons: for example, to stare at how wealthy people fly out of the city whenever they please. And for the sake of the local bike cafe, which inside resembles a temple dedicated to bicycles.
From there, the only way is to the Punggol area, where Singapore’s modern middle class lives. For them, there are bike paths, playgrounds, and cafes near the water.
They even have their own island, Coney Island, where trees resembling spruces grow. On the one hand, it’s like a message from prehistoric times, on the other hand, it gives me a fleeting feeling that I’m back in the Siberian forest.
Another interesting route winds around the Singapore Zoo, which is praised for its closeness to nature. Animals are kept there without cages and in large spaces: the entire territory is framed by lakes, which allows you to truly immerse yourself in the life of the jungle and forget that you are in the center of a metropolis.
The zoo can be reached along Mandai Road, where hordes of cyclists flock early in the morning to take pictures of the predawn haze over the surface of the local lake.
From there, the only way is to the west! There are more construction sites, factories and industrial parks. There are long distances between the green zones, which can only be driven along local roads.
Among the places of interest is Bukit Timah Nature Reserve, where there are beautiful rocks with shades of red clay. There are even mountain bike trails inside the park – a rarity in flat Singapore.
Untouched woodland remains along the Rail Corridor route. For example, local environmentalists are fighting for the preservation of Clementi Forest – they want to turn one of the last forests into a residential area.
If you go even further west through the Ulu Pandan Park Connector, you can come to the Pandan Reservoir, which looks more like a lake than a reservoir. You can pedal around it and admire the views of high-rise buildings, romantically whitening in the distance like a mirage.
Another body of water Jurong Lake is also very picturesque and is very close. After them – only the industrial zone, only hardcore.
My friend Sasha is happy with his new raincoat
And the north-west of Singapore can be more interesting: from Woodlands Waterfront Park you can see Johor Bahru, a city in Malaysia, located on the other side. You can see how housing is being built there and people are working, but you can’t visit them – countries do not let each other in because of the coronavirus pandemic.
There are also organic farms in the area, such as BollyWood Farms, which feed weary travelers with fresh vegetables and goat’s milk.
Cyclists most often pass by all these places and prefer not to stop for a long time for the sights. They go north and west for a different reason: to conquer the local bicycle Everest or as we call it Tour de Singapore !
Best of all, the way I picked up new routes and moved from beginner to amateur rank can be seen in the maps that I save in my Strava account.
Marna Bay Sands Vivo City-Sentosa-Sentosa Cove Marina Bay Sands – Gardens By The Bay East – East Coast Park – Changi Village – Seletar airport – Punggol Waterway Park Around the zoo: Ang Mo Kio Park – Mandai Road – Bukit Timah Road90 kilometers around Singapore, but not all yet! Complete cycle cycle completed: 164 kilometers.
Tour de Singapore
Everything seems just in words: you leave at 5 am and follow the roads along the borders of the country.
This route even has its own rituals, for example, it is necessary to drive to a pole in the industrial area of Tuas in order to attach your sticker to it. To get there, you need to make a detour 30 kilometers from the main route – this is definitely not for the lazy!
Traveling such distances is difficult. After the first 70 kilometers, the legs begin to get tired and the shoulders begin to numb. At around 100 km, thoughts may appear: why is all this needed? But closer to 150-160 km, I just want it to end quickly.
There is no one on the roads in the early morning, and it’s wonderful!
Depending on the speed, the entire journey can take from 6 to 10 hours. Some cyclists stretch the route for two days: they leave the bike halfway and return to it the next day.
And I also saw those who rode the route on bicycles with small wheels called foldies (folding bicycles) – they are easy to fold and take with you on the bus. Their speed is low, so people can ride 160 kilometers for 12 hours or more.
The main part of the route runs along dusty roads, where there is no one except cars and cyclists. When these roads go through pristine jungle or along farms, it’s beautiful, green and fresh. But more often these highways stretch through industrial areas, where there are only hangars, garages and construction sites.
This is especially noticeable in the industrial western part of Singapore. Now there is a huge construction going on: in the Tuas region, a port is being built, which, according to estimates, after the launch in 2040, will become the largest automated port in the world.
In the meantime, in an attempt to successfully cross the west, cyclists have to swallow the dust behind huge trucks scurrying back and forth with construction materials. Their snarling sound still rings in my ears, like I’m a combat veteran with PTSD.
Sometimes you just want to fall off your bike
Along the way, my friend and I ate protein bars and drank a lot of water. We were lucky with the weather: the sun remained behind the clouds throughout the day, and a couple of times it even rained.
In the last 30 kilometers we stopped more often because our shoulders and legs were numb. I had to force myself to get back on the bike – the body did not want to return to an uncomfortable half-bent position.
When we returned to the clean streets of the city center after the dusty west of Singapore, we looked with envy at the cyclists idly riding on the sidewalks. They did not see the dirt and dust that we experienced on our way around the island!
The same pillar for which we made a 30-kilometer detour
That being said, I can’t recommend to anyone who wants to cycle around Singapore. It should be a conscious choice, because at some point you really want to give up and only strong motivation helps you to reach the end.
You can also test yourself on short routes. In addition, the island has much more picturesque roads without dust, dirt and dull views of construction sites. Of course, the whole route looks impressive on the map, but I’m not ready to drive it again.

Benidorm is a popular Costa Blanca destination for Brits all year round. The main season starts in May, but with an average temperature around 10℃ warmer than in the UK, plenty of us head to Spain in January for a little winter sunshine. We’ve looked at the most up-to-date weather data for Benidorm, covering the last 12 years up to 2022, plus we’ve asked our team of travel bloggers for their first-hand experiences in order to answer the most frequently asked questions about Benidorm weather in January.
What’s the temperature like in Benidorm during January?
January is typically the coolest month in Benidorm. The temperature reaches around 14℃ during the daytime, falling away to 10℃ at night. The UV index will be moderate at this time of year, so not something to worry about for the average person. However, if you’re going to be outside for long periods it’s worth wearing a broad spectrum SPF 30+ sunscreen and UV-blocking sunglasses. Remember that bright surfaces, such as water and sand increase UV exposure.
Does it rain in Benidorm during January?
On average, there will be 3 rainy days during the month, amounting to 62.2mm in total. That’s broadly comparable with the amount of rain we see in England during the summer months, and would be considered dry. You’re not likely to see a thunderstorm during your trip.
Is it too cold to swim in the sea in Benidorm during January?
The water around Benidorm is a bracing 15℃ during January and would be considered too cold for swimming. Those who are a bit more hardy or frequently swim in cooler open water might want to take a quick dip. A wetsuit would be advisable if you wish to spend longer than 5 minutes in the water.

Once, when deciding where to warm up in winter, our choice fell on the Canary Islands. An additional argument was that the Spaniards gave a six-month Schengen. But there are seven Canary Islands – which one to choose? The most touristy and densely populated Tenerife and Gran Canaria we immediately brushed aside. As a result, three islands remained: Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and La Palma. Each of them is beautiful in its own way. But we stopped at the most wild, deserted and mysterious – Fuerteventura.
We stayed at the Club Paraiso Playa hotel near the town of Morro de Jable on the Jandia Peninsula, but on arrival I liked the Meliá Gorriones hotel, which alone occupies a huge sandy beach. Other popular resort areas are Costa Calma and Corralejo with its dunes. Generally speaking, there are two main categories of tourists in Fuertoventura: European pensioners who are fond of nudism (East coast) and surfers (windy West coast). With children, it’s really not the best vacation here, but for a romantic trip this is a great option.
I must say right away that we didn’t manage to swim in February – even on the windless side of the island the ocean was too cold. But there was plenty of sun. The main reason why you should go to Fuerteventura is to feel the harsh power of the elements, left alone with it. Traveling to the virtually uninhabited western part of the island is one of those experiences that will last a lifetime.
Pass to the western part of the Jandia peninsula. A footpath leads here from Gran Valle, near the town of Morro Jable. By car, the turn will be further.
Cofete beach and El Islote cape. Except for the seagulls – no one.
Villa of Baron Gustav Winter. It is known for certain that Winter had connections with the Nazis, and therefore there are numerous legends about the villa. Most of all I liked the version that plastic surgery was done here for Nazi criminals before their flight to Latin America.
Beach in El Cotillio – where brave surfers fight against the elements. And there are also generous Spaniards footballers who helped us change a broken tire.
On the cape of the Jandia peninsula.
The whole landscape on the island is like this. They say that there are much more goats here than local residents.
Diversity in the landscape is still found. Not far from Corralejo, for example, there are dunes.
A secluded beach we found on the east coast of Jandia.
Fuertoventura also has normal beaches. True, there is one abnormality – almost all of them are nudist.
Endless beaches.
In the mountains around Betancuria.
For a change, we still decided to swim to the neighboring island Lanzarote (the ferry departs from Corralejo).
