Always come to Cita when i am in PDI. I stayed years ago at Los Almendros so it is opposite and easy access.
I was sad to see the basement area has changed so much. No Chaps Bar anymore and a lot. ..

Nice shops and a lot of restaurants. A busy place where you can enjoy all Gran Canaria has to offer; friendly people, good food, nice weather

But if a strange one. The outside and decorations are nice, but the shops themselves are all very much the same. Second hand electronics from the 90s, tourist souvenirs etc., then adult stores.

The exterior is so ugly that is almost beautiful. I think it has been the same for over 30 years. Somewhat dodgy vibe I must say.

I give it 5 stars for the kitsch. If you’re on a budget, you can’t go wrong. There are some tourist traps in there selling Knick knacks next to high end stores selling labels. Food is cheap.

Nice, varied selection of shops, although there are many more catering for the German clientele. The centre itself is a little old now but they do a good job keeping it looking fresh.

Although the Canary Islands archipelago is located only 60 miles (100 kms) off the coast of West Africa and is geographically recognized as part of the African continent, it has been under Spanish rule since the 15th century. The islands became a popular holiday destination with European sun-seekers in the 1970s and ‘80s after former Spanish dictator Franco opened it’s door to tourists.

Renowned for its persistently good weather and depth of natural attractions ranging from the pristine stretches of white beaches to the breathtaking peaks of Mount Teide and Roque de los Muchachos, the Islas Canarias, as they are known in Spanish, is one of the country’s major, but most distant tourist destinations. Most visitors tend to favor Tenerife, Lanzarote, and Gran Canaria.

There’s a huge supply of hotels spread across the Canary Islands catering to the taste of any tourist, particularly if you enjoy lounging around the pool or being within sauntering distance of the sandy shores. All-inclusive resorts have always been and remain one of the islands’ main selling points, especially during the low season when great deals can be found. The archipelago is extremely proud of its culinary delights, which include watercress soup, miel de palma (palm syrup), piquant sauce, and the local goat cheese, which can be found at restaurants all over the islands, in addition to a fantastic variety of seafood.

Each island has its own appeal, providing visitors with a wide range of excursions to embark upon and activities in which to immerse themselves. La Gomera, with its distinct lack of beaches, attracts trekkers to its mountainous terrain and diverse flora and fauna, while a trip to Tenerife’s quaint colonial towns of La Laguna and La Orotava offers a whitewashed breath of fresh air after a day hiking in the stones and lava. This island also boasts Spain’s largest mountain, Teide. On the Isla de Fuego, Lanzarote, you will experience a spectacularly unique landscape scattered with over 300 volcanic cones, ranging in shape, size, and color. There’s also fantastic architecture to check out courtesy of Lanzarote’s celebrated son Cesar Manrique.

On the Canary Islands, buses are the most common form of transport. Although a little more expensive than those on the mainland, they are sufficient for short trips. Taxis are available, but fairly expensive unless you’re in a group. Car rental is the best option if you want to get off the beaten path and explore the terrain. While you can hop the islands in small propeller planes, a much cheaper and more convenient choice is to travel by ferry.

    Highlights

    • Ride the waves off Gran Canaria, fondly referred to as the Hawaii of the Atlantic
    • Trek through the flora and fauna in the peaks of La Gomera
    • Take a cable car up Spain’s highest mountain, Tiede, and walk to the summit
    • Visit Tenerife, Santa Cruz, or Puerto Cruz during Carnaval and celebrate this explosive festival of color in true fashion with the locals
    • Go kitesurfing or windsurfing in the azure Atlantic, off the coast of Fuerteventura
    • Spend the day seeking out Lanzarote’s great artist Cesar Manrique.

Tenerife Island Travel Guide – Barcelona10

The Canary Islands seem small on the map, in fact it will be hard to visit them all in a vacation. Tenerife, the largest of them, is the place where you can mindlessly lie on the famous black volcanic sand beach, go on an excursion to the mountains, see a cultural event – there is a choice and variety of leisure activities. On other islands, beach holidays still prevail.

    Flight

If you fly to Tenerife with discount Vueling from Moscow and back, a ticket without luggage will cost about 550 euros, with a suitcase – 640. Iberia and RyanAir offer similar prices. A more comfortable Lufthansza or Air Europa can be reached for 1200 – 1700 people. There are no flights without transfers, you will definitely need to change the plane, most likely in Barcelona or Madrid. The minimum travel time will be from 9until 11 o’clock.

    Transport

As the locals like to say, Tenerife is a big island. Indeed, it is very diverse: there are magnificent beaches, forests, mountains, modern cities. But, in fact, in order to drive the entire island from end to end, you need about one and a half to two hours. There is not much public transport here, so it is best to rent a car to feel free to visit sights and restaurants. For example, in Rentalcars you can find a car for 20-50 euros per day. Plus gasoline. It will be delivered directly to the airport parking lot by the time your flight arrives.

There is really one inconvenience: it is as difficult to find parking in Tenerife as in Moscow, because the local population also prefers to travel exclusively by car.

    Accommodation

The best place to stay is in the larger city, in the capital Santa Cruz da Tenerife or close to it, such as La Laguna or Guimar. In this case, you will have a choice between coastal cafes for tourists and establishments for locals, access to regular supermarkets and the opportunity to look at the architecture of cities or even turn one of the small local galleries.

For example, a double room at the Hotel Aguere in La Laguna will cost 60 euros. You will live in an old building that has been operating as a hotel for two centuries already, the room will have everything that is usually found in decent hotels, except for a hair dryer, and one of the maître d’s thinks that he speaks a little Russian, though it looks something like this: “Christmas tree, closet, run, then,” but it can entertain.

In the capital, you can stay in the five-star IBEROSTAR Grand Hotel Mencey at a price of 130 euros per night, the four-star Hotel Taburiente Tenerife or Silken Atlantida Santa Cruz for 80 euros.

    Tenerife attractions

Tenerife’s main attraction is Teide volcano . All its surroundings are a national park of the same name. You can get there by car on the navigator. To go there, you need to allocate a separate day, because, firstly, the path along the serpentine is quite long, and secondly, you will always want to stop to look at the magnificent views.

It is better to take food with you on this trip. There are cafes along the way, but they are spoiled by the attention of tourists from all over the world, so what they offer is not too tasty and overly expensive.

The climb to the top of the Teide costs 27 euros for those who do not have a Canarian residence. Those who were born or live there will have to pay only 15, so the authorities maintain interest in the sights of their citizens.

The next known object is Guimar Pyramids . Food must also be with you, the car is filled, and the navigator is turned on. These are well-preserved stepped pyramids belonging to an ancient civilization that once inhabited the Canary Islands. No one knows exactly when and by whom they were built. There are two main theories. Simple – that these are the remains of the activities of ancient farmers who cleared the fields of stones. The second belongs to the famous traveler Thor Heyerdahl, who believed that the pyramids have an astronomical location, since all their stairs on the day of the winter solstice are directed towards the sun.

It is known for sure that in one of the caves near the pyramids lived the Guanches, the Canary aborigines, who, after the capture of the islands, mixed with the Spaniards so much that it is now difficult to say whether the inhabitants of the islands have the blood of this tribe or not.

Infierno Gorge , which means “hell” in Spanish, is located on the southwestern part of the island. There is a hiking trail on which tourists have died more than once, each time after an accident the entrance was closed, and in 2014 they even put prohibition signs and fenced off with a fence. The most attractive thing about Infierno is the strange, almost alien landscape of bare rocks, native pines, cacti, and chunks of volcanic rock. At the end of the road there is a waterfall, but you should not expect the power of Niagara from it, it’s just a trickle of fresh water between the rocks.

The most modern of the famous sights is the Auditorio de Tenerife Opera House, which is located in the capital and was built in 2003.

This post-modern structure rivals the Sydney Opera House in originality, and when you look at it, it seems that human engineering can compete with the strange volcanic formations created by nature. There are live music concerts, performances, opera, musicals. The schedule is on the website, and tickets, depending on the show and the date of purchase, cost from 5 to 50 euros.

    Water activities

There are different beaches in Tenerife, after all, this is the main specialization of the island. If you want to try new water sports, such as surfing or kitesurfing, which is very common here, you need to go to the coast of Puerto de la Cruz, Los Cristianos and Las Teresitas. The latter, by the way, is famous for being artificially created, and the sand there is from the Sahara desert. Here you can also try snorkeling, swimming with a breathing tube, mask and fins, renting it all for 20-50 euros per hour. If you just want to sunbathe and swim, you can do it here too, but during the season, hundreds more strangers will lie next to you, practically shoulder to shoulder.

If you want privacy, harmony with the sea and nature, it is better to go to La Tejita beach. There is no entertainment infrastructure there, and there are fewer people because of this. It is conditionally divided into two parts: regular and nudist. The latter is located under a mountain of volcanic origin and is separated by rocks.

The island’s water attractions include Siam Park, where you can go for one day for 34 euros if you are an adult, and 23 if you are a child. It has water slides, its own zoo, travel through a laser show and other entertainment.

The most interesting attraction, according to locals and tourists, is the Tower of Power. In fact, it is also a water slide, only it passes through a glass pipe located inside a giant aquarium. It turns out that when you roll along it, you are surrounded by various dangerous and not very marine animals.

    Seafood

If you expect that seafood in restaurants on the island will be incredibly cheap, you are wrong. Of course, shrimp and other sea creatures are caught a few hundred meters from your table, but extra charges play their role.

Dinner for two at Restaurante El Pescadito del Rocuete in Baja Mar, consisting of camaroni (mini shrimp), lapas (clams like mussels, only tastier), fresh fried fish and drinks – you will have to pay 40 euros. This is a good place that is respected by the locals. But in other restaurants by the sea, prices are similar.

A trip to Tenerife is a good way to slow down after work and relax. At first, it will be a bit annoying to see the very low speed at which people move here and the service takes place in restaurants, but after a few days you will notice that you yourself have become slower, calmer and happier.

    What to Do in Corralejo

    Explore Corralejo Natural Park

Parque Natural de Corralejo occupies over 10 square miles in northeastern Fuerteventura. The fine sands stretch between the Corralejo to Puerto del Rosario road, the coastline and the base of Montaña Roja.

This breathtaking National Park features the Canaries’ biggest sand dunes, azure waters, powdery sands and a dramatic volcanic backdrop. Even during high season, it’s easy to find an isolated spot here. Locally the area is also known as Grandes Playas – literally translating to large beaches. The sands don’t come from the Sahara desert, but have been formed here over time from broken-down shells.

The Corralejo to Puerto del Rosario (FV-1) road passes right by the bone-white sands of the National Park. You can park along here to access both the dunes and some of the island’s finest beaches.

    Location: Google Maps

    Discover Corralejo Grandes Playas

The Big Beaches of Corralejo can also be found within the National Park. These range from small, secluded nudist-friendly bays in the south to the beaches of the north complete with amenities and a lifeguard service. Bajo Negro beach is lined with sun loungers and parasols, El Pozo is a favourite with surfers, and El Médano is a popular place for windsurfing and kiteboarding.

There is a beach within Corralejo Natural Park for everyone. However, these beaches are not ideal for swimming, due to rip tides and strong ocean currents. So do take care and swim only within lifeguarded areas. While there are beach bars, toilets and showers in some spots, it’s wise to bring sufficient supplies of water and sunscreen along.

The best beaches for families are Bajo Negro, Los Matos or El Burro, while water sports fans should head to El Médano or El Pozo. Nudist coves can also be found at Playa Larga, El Viejo and El Caserón.

    Location: Google Maps

    Enjoy the Town Beaches

There are several beaches within the resort too, and Corralejo also offers ample bars and restaurants by the sea. The town beaches are also family-friendly. Here’s a little about the best beaches in Corralejo itself.

    Playa Corralejo

Playa Corralejo offers all the facilities you could need, such as toilets, sheltered areas and restaurants. This clean beach is good for water sports, sunbathing and swimming.

    Location: Google Maps

    Playa Corralejo Viejo

This is the resort’s bigger beach. Here you can sunbathe or enjoy sand between your toes while sipping a drink at Waikiki Beach Club. This is a safe, tranquil beach with calm waters.

    Location: Google Maps

    Wander Along the Promenade

Corralejo’s promenade runs alongside the beaches for a kilometre and is lined with shops, bars, cafes and seafood restaurants. There are stunning views of Lanzarote and Lobos Island from here.

    Sample Some Water Sports

The sea breezes of El Río strait provide perfect conditions for water sports. Due to abundant and colourful marine life, glass-bottomed boat trips, diving and fishing are also popular here.

Other water sports to sample in the area include surfing, windsurfing, paddleboarding and kitesurfing. High pressure makes the period between April and September particularly windy, but there are fresh ocean breezes all year round. Northern Fuerteventura experiences more consistent conditions than the south, which makes these parts ideal for sports such as windsurfing and kitesurfing.

Tuition and equipment hire is available for all levels and ages, from beginners to advanced. One of the top windsurfing and kitesurfing centres in Corralejo is Flag Beach Windsurf Center, which offers experienced windsurfing, surfing and kitesurfing instruction and hire.

Make a Splash at Acua Water Park

Acua Water Park in Corralejo is the island’s sole water park, and is open throughout the summer. The park offers a range of water-based attractions, plus eateries and entertainment.

A variety of activities suit everyone. These include wave pools, a lazy river, jacuzzi tubs, slower and faster water slides, mini-golf and a kids’ club.

Opening hours: Only open between April and October and closed the rest of the year. Opening hours are from 10am to 6pm. Check the official website to make sure it’s open.
Price: The entry price is €29 for adults and €22 for children (4-11 years old). Children younger than 4 go free.
    Location: Google Maps

Stroll Around the Corralejo Old Town

Corralejo’s Old Town is situated close to the working fishing port to the north end of the resort. Avenida de Nuestra Señora del Carmen (location) is the main thoroughfare, and this stretches between the Old Town and via the resort to the motorway. It’s not as charming as the Old Town, though, which is packed with character plus many cafes, shops, bars and restaurants.

Strolling through the streets here is a joy, and you can take pictures of the pretty pastel-coloured houses. The marina here also offers ferry services to Lobos and Lanzarote.

    Shop ‘Til You Drop

There are several places offering shopping in Corralejo, including a centre with live music at weekends and one with panoramic views as well as a good range of Corralejo shops.

    Centro Comercial El Campanario

This Corralejo shopping centre is named for its striking bell tower, and has been built in a colonial Canarian style. The cobbled streets offer a good combination of shops, and there are views over the resort, Lobos and Lanzarote from the bell tower.

Sometimes entertainment takes place in the main square here. There’s live music on Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons, so on weekends there’s a great atmosphere. The centre also has a decent HiperDino supermarket inside. Markets are also held thrice-weekly, with El Rastro flea market on Saturdays and a craft market on Thursdays and Sundays. It’s a good place for picking up unique souvenirs.

Opening hours: The shopping centre is open every day from 9:30am to 9:30pm.
The flea market takes place on Saturday from 10am to 2pm.
The local craft market takes place on Thursday and Sunday from 10am to 2pm.
    Location: Google Maps

    Centro Comercial Las Palmeras

Las Palmeras Shopping Centre is around halfway down Avenida Nuestra Señora del Carmen (location). This open air mall in Corralejo has floors at ground and basement level, and offers a range of stores. These include shops selling clothing, accessories, sportswear and equipment, perfumes, cosmetics and more.

Free underground car parking is available at Centro Comercial Las Palmeras.

Opening hours: Every day from 9am to 10pm.
    Location: Google Maps

    Meet the Wild Chipmunks

There may be even more chipmunks than goats on the island of Fuerteventura. You can see them close to Corralejo’s beaches and also on the Mercadona hill. In fact the cute creatures are actually Barbary Ground Squirrels, an introduced species originating in Morocco and Algeria.

The little striped squirrels are very tame, and live in colonies with burrows. Don’t be tempted to feed them, though, as their population already threatens to overrun the island’s flora and fauna. Watching them run and climb is good fun, particularly for children, though they’re sure to charm the whole family.

See the Famous Popcorn Beach for Yourself

Popcorn beach is so-called due to the sands here, which look just like popped corn.  It’s actually formed from a kind of coralline algae. When living these are red, but the calcite present within turns them white after they die. Wave action then creates small, rocky pieces that look just like popcorn – and are painful to walk on barefoot.

This ‘popcorn’ can be seen at several local beaches. The best known is Playa del Bajo de la Burra (location), as it has more popcorn formations than anywhere else. You can reach this beach via a one-hour hike from Corralejo, or drive to the spot which lies east of Majanicho.

Other beaches of the northern coast also feature ‘popcorn’, including those found within the resort. Wherever you find it, never take any away with you, as the fossilised rhodoliths are protected. There’s plenty of fun to be had when taking pictures and fooling around.

    Hiking in Corralejo

    Dunas de Corralejo

The otherworldly landscape of this circular trek from Corralejo takes you through the sand dunes and past aquamarine waters topped with foamy crescents. Due to walking on sand the route can be challenging, but it’s not technically difficult. Allow around an hour-and-three-quarters to complete it. The route is popular, but you may still enjoy some moments of peace.

    Corralejo to Popcorn Beach

If you want to walk from Corralejo to explore Popcorn Beach, here’s a trail you can try. Use this map for a 8.9-km loop trail that goes to the popular Playa de Palomitas. The route also takes around an hour and 45 minutes and en route you’ll see beautiful coastal landscapes, crystal clear waters and of course the famed ‘popcorn’ formed from algae fossils.

Take a Day Trip to Lobos Island

Lobos Island lies between Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, and the name comes from Lobos Marinos – the sea wolves that were once thought to inhabit the little island. In reality, though, they were monk seals, and efforts are now underway to repopulate Lobos with the creatures. They were eaten by ravenous seafarers, and died out during the 15th century.

Isla de Lobos only takes an hour to hike around, and after arriving you can spend time at Playa de la Concha beach, see the Faro de Martiño lighthouse or climb La Caldera mountain. The island is also favoured by birdwatchers, surfers, divers and snorkellers. In certain spots you can also fish or swim, and there are marked trails for cyclists and walkers.

Lobos Island is a very easy day trip, as it takes only 15 minutes to get there by ferry from Corralejo. Lobos Island has everything you need for a decent day trip.

You can either buy a simple round-trip ticket to the island, or book an organised tour with snorkelling included. You can also go on a longer half-day boat trip that includes dolphin watching if you like.

Join a Day Trip to Lanzarote

Several ferries per day leave from Corralejo, bound for Playa Blanca in Lanzarote, and the trip takes only about half an hour. It’s certainly worthwhile, as many visitors see Lanzarote’s volcanic landscapes as the most beautiful in the Canary Islands. Great beaches and unusual César Manrique architecture also add to the appeal.

How to get to Lanzarote from Corralejo by ferry:

Naviera Armas has daily ferries and offers a direct route from Fuerteventura (Corralejo) to Lanzarote (Playa Blanca). This takes about 35 minutes, and costs around €60 for a return trip ticket.

Fred Olsen Express also offers a direct ferry route from Fuerteventura (Corralejo) to Lanzarote (Playa Blanca). There are ferry services daily and the duration is about 25 minutes. The cost is about €60 for a round trip.

Lineas Maritimas Romero also offers a direct route from Corralejo to Playa Blanca. It takes 30 minutes. A round-trip ticket costs €38 for adults and €20 for children.

Or you can book a full day tour with wine tasting and lunch (highly recommended!).

9 unique beaches you should see in Fuerteventura

Fuerteventura is the champion of unique beaches! You can find any kind of beach you like – with white sand, with black sand, with pebbles, with sharp rocks, with volcanic pools, with white sand lagoons, with sea caves, long beaches, and short ones.

Here I concluded nine beaches in Fuerteventura that I found to be extra unique! Psst! They are ordered by a location starting from the North of Fuerteventura and going down to the South!

Read also >>> 21 best Instagram photo spots for amazing photos in Fuerteventura

    1.

Popcorn beach or Playa El Mejillón

I would definitely put Popcorn beach or Playa El Mejillón amongst the TOP 3 most famous beaches in Fuerteventura! And not because it is a great beach to go for a swim – on the contrary!

It is not a good place for swimming because of the rocks however it is a great place for unique photos. There is a marine algae called rhodoliths that looks almost exactly like popcorn pieces. It has been washed ashore and all the beach is covered with small, white ‘popcorn’ pieces.

Definitely stop at this place – you can only see something like this once in your life, haha! You can park your car on the side of the road. Please remember that it is forbidden to take rhodoliths with you – their home is at the beach!

    2. Grandes Playas de Corralejo

Corralejo beaches are not only famous for being excellent watersports places, but they are also great for spending the day at the beach. There is a long straight of white sand beaches and clear blue water to share amongst everyone – watersports fans and beachgoers.

However, there is one special reason to visit this area and it is the Corralejo sand dunes. On the opposite side of the road, there is a huge area of white sand dunes that cover about 10 kilometers in length.

You can make some incredibly unique photos here because it looks just like being in the desert. Don’t miss this spot when visiting Fuerteventura!

    Location: Google Maps

    3. Playa de la Solapa

Playa de la Solapa is a beautiful black sand beach on the West coast of Fuerteventura. It stands out from the rest of the beaches with multiple (and huge!) sea caves and big rocks on the beach that make it a good place for exploring and taking photos.

This is THE place to go during low tide when all the sea caves become accessible and safer to explore. I do not recommend visiting during high tide! You can get to the beach by car and park it right on the cliff before the beach.

Then follow a path down to the beach and turn left. If you follow the seashore to the left from the beach you will soon see both – the big rocks and all the sea caves one after another.

The biggest sea caves are located about 250 meters from the beach – around HERE and HERE! No wonder Marvel Studios decided to film some scenes for ‘Eternals’ on this beach – it is so cool!

    Location: Google Maps

    4. Playa de Garcey

Playa de Garcey is a super remote and secluded beach on the West coast of Fuerteventura. If you look for some information about this beach you will most likely find that there was a shipwreck at the shores of this beach. A ship called the American Star. It still is there but it is not really visible anymore.

However, this beach is unique for another reason as well. If you take a walk from the beach to the South and follow the coastline you will stumble upon some crazy unique rock formations that look like beehive and honey cells.

But the most unique spot is located about 1 kilometer to the South from the beach – I call it the Bee cave. It is a tiny white sand cove with a perforated ceiling that almost looks like honey cells. It is not the most important tourist attraction on the island, but it is a nice adventure if you have time for a walk!

    Location: Google Maps

    5. Playa de las Hermosas

This little black sand and rock beach is great for a quiet getaway. It is surrounded by cliffs from both sides and protects you from the wind. What makes it unique is the Crocodile rock near it.

If you climb up on a cliff and hike along the coast to the North from the beach, then in a couple of minutes’ time you will stumble upon a unique rock formation that looks like a crocodile with an open mouth. That whole area is full of interesting rock formations, but the Crocodile rock stands out the most.

Definitely a great photo place, a great place for watching the sunset, having a picnic, and a quiet time away from the crowds as it is a bit remote, but still easily reachable. You can easily drive a car to the beach and park it right there.

    Location: Google Maps

    6.

    Playa de Sotavento

Playa de Sotavento is a chameleon beach and one of the most famous and unique beaches in Fuerteventura. During low tide, it looks like a white-sand desert – an incredible emptiness around you as far as you can see.

However, it comes alive during high tide – when the water comes in, it creates these beautiful and picture-friendly sand strips that stay above the shallow water and are great for taking pictures or just relaxing at the beach.

Beware that not all high tides are the same! It will be more visible during some high tides, but not much visible during other high tides. When we went there we got the not-very-well-visible one, but still, there were places with sand strips in the water that looked really cool from above.

You can park your car right at the beach on both ends of the beach. If it is the not-so-visible high tide, then maybe it would be better to drive to the southern end of the beach – that is where we found these amazing sand strips.

    Location: Google Maps

    7. Playa del Mal Nombre

This beautiful picturesque beach is a great option if you are staying on the south side of the island and crave some white sand beach with turquoise water! This beach is similar to Sotavento beach – it has a sand strip in the water where people love to take a walk.

If it is high tide it might be under water just like in my photo however the water is super shallow so you can still walk there or go for a swim. There is a café next to it so this is a great choice for a beach day. Shallow water, turquoise colors, and white sand – this is Fuerteventura, this is Playa del Mal Nombre!

    Location: Google Maps

    8. Playa de Cofete

Playa de Cofete is one of those places you have to see to believe it! This endless sandy beach is located in the southwest corner of Fuerteventura and has a beautiful mountain backdrop on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other side!

Getting to this 14-kilometer-long beach is a bit of a hassle because it is quite far away from everything else and you will have to survive almost 20 kilometers on bumpy gravel roads, but it is definitely worth it! The views are just amazing!

The beach is so long and all the beachgoers have their own space so it feels like you are the only one there. Besides admiring incredible views of the beach you can visit the huge Roque del Moro cliff or walk all the way to El Islote islet next to the beach. You can get a great view from there and get a photo just like the one above!

    Location: Google Maps

    9. Playa de los Ojos

Playa de los Ojos is a sandy medium-size beach on the far southwest end of the island. It is surrounded by a couple of meters high cliffs that protect sunbathers from the wind.

On a calmer day it is possible to enjoy the water as well, but what makes this beach even more unique is not only that it is probably one of the remotest and furthest beaches in Fuerteventura you can get to.

However, there are also two sea caves – a bigger one located HERE where you can get during low tide, and a smaller one HERE that is accessible more or less all the time.

    Location: Google Maps

    Happy exploring!

Fuerteventura has an abundance of different and unique beaches – you only have to choose from all of them and go see for yourself! If you asked me if it was possible to visit all of them in one day, then the answer is – possibly not!

But if you are determined then this could be done, haha! I hope you get to visit at least some of these wonderful places and remember to keep them clean! If you can, please, leave a comment below if there are any significant changes to anything that is written in this blog post! Many thanks!

  • The island of Fuerteventura is famous not only for its lunar landscapes, but also for its “piece of the Sahara” – the snow-white dunes of the El Jable Natural Park (Spanish El Jable ), an area of 27 square kilometers. A wide strip of sand begins 5 kilometers from Corralejo and stretches towards the capital of the island. The dunes have become a reserve only since 1982. Now any construction is prohibited here, as well as driving cars and motorcycles. Walking along the dunes is not forbidden. Having reached this place, we arranged a small photo session, a couple of frames from which I post for review, and a more detailed photo report about El Jable will be released later in a separate post. nine0243 Fuerteventura ). There are no significant sights here, the streets are almost lifeless, and visiting tourists are rare guests here. Despite this, the city, or rather even the village, is interesting in its own way and is very popular among surfers. Visiting El Cotillo was on our must-see itinerary, and I’ll try to explain why below.

0243 Puerto del Rosario ). However, due to the fact that buses run extremely rarely to remote settlements, and not on a very convenient schedule, we never made it to Betancuria …

Since we were already at the Puerto del Rosario bus station, return back to the hotel I just didn’t want to go to Corralejo. Decided! Instead of Betancuria, we go to the small town of Antigua ( Antigua ) – the administrative center of the municipality of Antigua.

To date, I have managed to post six full-length reports on our flight to the islands and accommodation at the hotel; spoke about the flora and fauna of the island of Fuerteventura; I tried to describe my impressions of the Atlantic Ocean. Of course, I could not get around the interesting history of the islands, as well as characterize the city life, people’s culture, social infrastructure, etc.

Ahead of you are interesting stories about the cities of the islands of Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, we will visit the Timanfaya Volcanoes National Park, and also see the endless dunes of El Jable. In the meantime, I propose once again (and for someone for the first time) to go through the already posted articles in a new capacity. Enjoy reading and viewing photos! nine0003

For some, the sea is just the sea, on the shore of which you can spend your vacation, sunbathe on the beach or swim … Nothing more … For me, the sea is something more … I can sit for hours on on the coast of my native Baltic, admire the white caps of the waves, listen to the cries of seagulls and think about the eternal… Of course, feeling boundless love for the sea, I also wanted to see the ocean… to feel its power, to feel its character…

Until recently , it was just a dream, but if you really want it, any dream can turn into reality. Last year’s trip to the Canary Islands allowed me to touch the legendary Atlantic, and thereby make one less dream. nine0015 Fuerteventura,

  • Before talking about any settlements and sights of the Canary Islands, I would like to acquaint you with the general history of the archipelago, as well as tell you about the main historical events, one way or another connected with the islands. And in conclusion of my today’s story, I will tell you in more detail about the two islands that I managed to visit. These are Fuerteventura and Lanzarote. nine0003

This overview report will focus on a piece of Spain, in the vast waters of the Atlantic Ocean, specifically: people, lifestyle and culture, climate, transport, as well as shopping, food and fashion. And at the end of the report, I will give a detailed financial breakdown of our journey. And in the next parts of my story, I will tell you about the wonderful Ryanair, our hotel, the flora and fauna of the island, as well as the Atlantic Ocean. So, first things first.

In order to somehow take a break from the past hassle, and also try to catch the runaway summer (which we practically didn’t have), I took a well-deserved vacation from work so that tomorrow, with my beloved Natasha, go to our new, perhaps the most important and serious journey, along the route: Lithuania – Germany – Spain (Canary Islands) – Germany – Lithuania.

    Temperature

Though the area benefits from hot and sunny weather year round, it is in the winter that the resort becomes more popular, as tourists flock to the resort to enjoy the warm weather and get away from chilly conditions back home.

The average daily temperature in Playa Blanca is 20°C (68°F). This can escalate to highs of 22°C (72°F) or drop to lows of 17°C (63°F).

    Playa Blanca Hotels in November

Couples and families searching for b&b accommodation in Playa Blanca should consider staying at Casa el Morro. This rustic retreat is ideally located to explore the island and its various bodegas, volcanoes and traditional villages. Here you’ll find a small number of self-catering houses complete with bedroom, living room-dining room, fully-equipped kitchen and private bathroom. How the Canaries were formed: everything you need to know

The Canary Islands are an archipelago in the Atlantic Ocean. They are located in the northwestern part of Africa and consist of only eight islands, five islets and eight rocks. For example, we are talking about La Gomera, La Palma and Tenerife, El Hierro, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote and Gran Canaria. many people wonder How did the Canary Islands form?

For this reason, we are going to dedicate this article to the story of how the Canary Islands were formed, their characteristics and significance.

    How the Canary Islands

    9000 9000

are located in African and located in African plate, forming the region of Macaronesia. They have a subtropical climate and climate variability results in biodiversity. All islands have biosphere reserves, national parks and areas declared as World Heritage Sites. Before the pandemic, millions of people visited the islands, for example, in 2019year, about 13 million tourists.

Its volcanic origin has also been calculated as quite recent for the age of the Earth: 30 million years. Several theories confirm that the islands were formed during different periods or volcanic cycles, which implies a continuous process of lava formation and successive solidification.

Therefore, it can be said that each island of this group has its own geological history or its own antiquity, the oldest islands are probably Fuerteventura and Lanzarote, followed by Tenerife, the Canary Islands and La Gomera. The closest are La Palma and El Hierro, which are less than 2 million years old.

    original cycles

So what would this process or cycle look like? First, there is a phase called the “basal complex” in which the oceanic crust breaks and a block rises, in which lava erupted from the seabed is deposited. Then, Island emerges from the water in a stage known as “under construction”.

In turn, two cycles are distinguished here, the first of the old series, forming large volcanic structures, and then the so-called latest series, which is preserved today, is characterized by constant volcanic activity. Collectively, we can imagine how magma from the bowels of the planet rises through various cracks in the earth’s crust, accumulates on the sea floor, and then rises to sea level.

This has been going on for millions of years and, as we say, continues to this day with water vapor, sulphurous gases and occasional eruptions. Take, for example, the Tenegia eruption on La Palma in 1971, or more recently in 2021, when an unnamed volcano terrorized the island for 90 days.

The Canary Islands are mysterious in their own way, and because they are one of the few archipelagos formed by still active marine volcanoes, they are of great interest to scientists. There have been at least 500 eruptions in 18 years. so it has a pretty strong volcanic history and yes we haven’t seen the end yet.

Theories about how the Canary Islands formed

The features of these islands have inspired various theories about their formation. For a while, the theory of hot spots dominated, according to which islands formed in the transoceanic depression between Africa and America. Thus, islands appear along the way, with the oldest islands furthest from their origin as they move along the lithospheric plates.

Another theory is the theory of propagating cracks, according to which, following the cycles of compression and relaxation of the Atlas tectonic plate, faults occurred in the lithosphere, spreading from the continents to the Atlantic Ocean, leaving behind magma.

I must say that these are all theories and not fully accepted, although the hot spots are relatively hot. This may explain why the islands are still active, with the exception of some where no volcanic activity has been recorded at present. Yes, yes, there are still holes in this explanation, but scientific research continues to try to answer all questions.

So, what are the characteristics of the beautiful and dangerous Canary Islands? Well, they have all kinds of volcanic rocks that cover the whole range of alkaline basalts and they have all kinds of craters and they are very asymmetrical depending on where the wind is blowing from and pushing the magma one way or the other, and thermoplastic explosions and bombs. , the island also has magma and cones, formations, craters, many volcanic structures between calderas…

    Climate

On the other hand, the islands have a pleasant subtropical maritime climate with trade winds due to their proximity to the tropics and the El Golfo current. The wind pushes the clouds to form these beautiful seas of clouds and it also gives the feeling that the water is almost fluffy and calm.

The Canary Islands are a paradise with an average temperature of 25 ºC throughout the year. so this is a phenomenon at the tourist level.

Here are the main characteristics of the islands:

    • Palm: with an area of 708.32 square kilometers and a population of 83.458 2.426 million people. The Tenegia volcano was not in their favor, but last year there was another eruption that caused chaos. It is the second highest island in the group with the highest peak, Roque de los Muchachos, at 10.40 meters. It houses the largest optical telescope in the world, the Gran Telescopio Canarias, with a mirror diameter of XNUMX meters.
    • Iron: It is the smallest island with its own administration: 268.71 square kilometers and only 11.147 thousand inhabitants. This is a biosphere reserve where a major underwater eruption occurred ten years ago. It is the first island in the world to be fully self-sufficient with renewable energy.
    • Tenerife: The largest island, 2034.38 square kilometers. It is also the most populous region with 928.604 thousand people. Known as “Yongquan Island”, it has beautiful beaches and numerous natural parks. Yes, this is the place that receives the richest tourists every year.
    • Gran Canaria: This is the second most populous island in the archipelago. It is round and mountainous, its area is 1560 square kilometers. It has valuable archaeological sites and diverse landscapes that range from golden beaches to desert landscapes and green areas.
    • Fuerteventura: 1659 square kilometers closest to Africa. It is also the oldest from a geological point of view and the most destroyed. Since 2009 it has been a biosphere reserve.
    • Lanzarote: This is the easternmost island and the oldest of all the islands.

We’ve put together a guide to help you plan a cruise on Wonder of the Seas and learn more about the amenities, features, staterooms, activities, dining, and entertainment available onboard.

    Wonder of the Seas overview

Wonder of the Seas is Royal Caribbean’s newest cruise ship, whose inaugural sailing was on March 4, 2022.

She is currently the largest cruise ship in the world, taking the title from her sister ship Symphony of the Seas. At 1,188 feet long, 210 feet wide, and with a gross tonnage of 236,857, Wonder of the Seas is a massive vessel.

She has a capacity of 5,734 guests at double capacity and 6,988 guests total. With 2,300 crew onboard, the total capacity for Wonder of the Seas is 9,288 passengers!

Despite having such a high capacity, it’s unlikely that Wonder of the Seas will feel extremely crowded. Due to Royal Caribbean’s innovative Oasis Class ship design, Wonder of the Seas is split into several neighborhoods.

The neighborhoods are designed to space out guests and provide a diverse experience throughout the ship, with each neighborhood offering different amenities, activities, and dining.

Like other Oasis Class ships, Wonder of the Seas has the following neighborhoods:

    1. The Boardwalk, meant to evoke nostalgia for oceanfront boardwalks of the past. The Boardwalk is complete with an arcade, candy store, hot dogs, sports bar, and Johnny Rockets.
    2. Pool & Sports Zone, where guests can enjoy the ship’s pools, hot tubs, and signature activities on the Sports Court
    3. Central Park, a tranquil area where guests can walk and relax along thousands of plants and flowers. Central Park is home to several restaurants, retail stores, bars, and artwork.
    4. The Royal Promenade, the main thoroughfare on Wonder of the Seas where guests can enjoy bars and lounges, shop, and grab a coffee
    5. Entertainment Place, the hub of signature entertainment on Wonder of the Seas, complete with a comedy club, ice skating rink, theater, and casino
    6. Youth Zone, home to Adventure Ocean programming, an arcade, and teen club
    7. Vitality Spa & Fitness, a peaceful spa and salon with a diverse range of treatments available. The fitness center is available at no extra cost to guests.

Wonder of the Seas differs from her Oasis Class sisters, however, in that she has an eighth neighborhood onboard, the Suite Neighborhood.

The Suite Neighborhood is an exclusive enclave available just for suite guests on Wonder of the Seas. Located at the top of the ship, suite guests can enjoy a private neighborhood that features the Coastal Kitchen restaurant, Suite Lounge, and private Suite Sun Deck.

While other Royal Caribbean ships have a private sun deck for suite guests, Wonder of the Seas takes this concept one step further. The Suite Sun Deck on Wonder of the Seas is a large outdoor space featuring comfy loungers, its own bar, and a plunge pool. The sun deck overlooks both the ocean and sports deck area.

While not the “ship within a ship” concept other cruise lines have, the Suite Neighborhood on Wonder of the Seas is Royal Caribbean’s most expansive enclave for suites guests on any ship in its fleet.

The Suite Neighborhood offers an exclusive experience for guests looking to enhance their cruise experience, and can be a selling point for those deciding between booking a suite or not.

This area is truly designed to be a destination for suite guests to enjoy with less impetus to leave the suite decks.

    Wonder of the Seas dining

As an Oasis Class ship, there is no shortage of dining options found on Wonder of the Seas. Both complimentary and specialty dining options are available and come in a wide range of cuisines and styles, meaning there is something for everyone to eat onboard.

With so many restaurants included in your cruise fare, it’s entirely possible to eat only at the complimentary venues on Wonder of the Seas. From Mediterranean-inspired dinners at Solarium Bistro to American breakfast at Johnny Rockets, it’s unlikely you’ll get bored with the complimentary restaurants available.

Wonder of the Seas also has a wide selection of specialty dining venues. Specialty restaurants come at an extra cost, but offer cuisines and dining experiences not found elsewhere onboard.

Specialty restaurant meals can be purchased individually or as part of a dining package. Purchasing a dining package allows you to try several different restaurants at a lower cost than purchasing each meal individually.

Dining package availability is limited, so it’s a good idea to book a dining package early via the Cruise Planner website. Both a 3-night Dining Package and Unlimited Dining Package may be available depending on the cruise.

Wonder of the Seas is the only Oasis Class ship to feature Royal Caribbean’s newest Italian restaurant, Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen.

Guests can dine on Italian-American cuisine, with menu highlights including chicken parmesan and spaghetti carbonara. Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen also has an extensive pizza menu with pizzas made to order in the restaurant’s own pizza oven.

Next to Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen is Giovavnni’s Wine Bar, which offers a selection of Italian wines. Guests at the wine bar are also able to order food from Giovanni’s Italian Kitchen next door, although the menu is limited and not included in the dining package. However, this can be a nice option for those wanting to try just an appetizer or pizza from the restaurant, and the prices per item are quite reasonable.

If you’re unsure of whether you should book a dining package or not, check out this video from the Royal Caribbean Blog YouTube channel which explains the pros and cons of a Royal Caribbean dining package:

Wonder of the Seas Bars & Lounges

Just like dining venues, Wonder of the Seas has no shortage of bars and lounges to explore. Two brand new bars were brought to Wonder of the Seas: Cantina Fresca and The Vue.

Cantina Fresca is a Latin-themed bar focusing on Mexican-inspired cocktails. This is the place to go onboard for margaritas, with flavors including pineapple jalapeño, strawberry, mango, and passion fruit. Mexican agua frescas are also available here, the first ever offered on a Royal Caribbean ship.

Cantina Fresca is conveniently located next to El Loco Fresh near the Sports Court, offering the perfect beverages to go along with burritos, nachos, and quesadillas.

The Vue is the second new bar on Wonder of the Seas. Taking the place of what would have been a second cantilevered hot tub, The Vue offers picturesque views of the ocean during both day and night. The bar is partially covered by a mosaic canopy, which lights up at night in a kaleidoscope of color.

Other bars and lounges on Wonder of the Seas include:

    • Schooner Bar
    • Trellis Bar
    • Boleros
    • Rising Tide Bar
    • Solarium Bar
    • Bionic Bar
    • Cask & Clipper Pub
    • Wipe Out Bar
    • The Attic
    • Playmakers Sports Bar & Arcade
    • The Lime and Coconut

    Shows & Entertainment

Wonder of the Seas is packed with entertainment venues and shows to satisfy thousands of guests per week. All shows and entertainment are included in your cruise fare, although reservations are usually required for signature performances. It’s a good idea to open the Royal Caribbean app as soon as you get onboard and reserve your preferred time slots for shows.

There are three main entertainment venues on Wonder of the Seas: the AquaTheater, the Royal Theater, and Studio B.

In the AquaTheater guests can enjoy inTENse, the first AquaTheater show to feature an all-female cast. As the name implies, inTENse is an intense performance with aerial acrobatics, slacklining, high diving, tumbling, and synchronized swimming. Adding to the performance are immersive lighting and sound effects that are sure to leave guests inspired.

The Royal Theater is home to two headliner performances: Voices and The Effectors II. Voices: An Intimate Performance on a Grand Scale, is a hybrid virtual and live show featuring vocal, musical, and dance performances.

The Effectors II: Crash ‘n’ Burn is a sequel to the original show found on Spectrum and Odyssey of the Seas. Royal Caribbean’s cast of superheroes returns to the stage in this performance to battle their archnemesis known as Crash (and his sidekick Burn).

The Effectors II uses dramatic and state-of-the-art technology to create scenery, imaging, and storytelling throughout the show.

While not a show that was offered when the ship launched, it began performances in June 2022.

In Studio B, the ice rink onboard, guests can travel through the year’s seasons with 365: The Seasons on Ice. The Wonder of the Seas ice show tells the story of Earth’s changing seasons through projection mapping, lighting and sound, costumes, and set design. The ice show features a talented cast of professional figure skaters and includes an impressive performance from an aerialist.

Outside of the main headliner shows on Wonder of the Seas are a variety of other entertainment options. Guests can enjoy live music throughout the ship, from piano tunes at Schooner Bar to acoustic guitar at the pub.

Something new to Wonder of the Seas is live country music at The Mason Jar. On most evenings (and some afternoons), a country band performs at the bar. Guests here can listen to live tunes while sipping a drink from one of the comfy rocking chairs found throughout the bar.

Comedy shows are performed throughout the cruise as well, either in the Royal Theater or in The Attic comedy club.

    Pool deck

The pool deck on Wonder of the Seas is a hub of activity throughout the cruise, for both guests looking to relax in the sun and those wanting to participate in onboard activities.

The pool deck’s design shares many similarities with other Oasis Class ships. There are three main pools, several jacuzzis, and one Splashaway Bay location for kids.

Parents with young children will especially enjoy Splashaway Bay, as it provides a splash pad and aqua park area with water sprayers, slides, and dump buckets.

The Perfect Storm waterslides are also found on the pool deck. These are a set of three waterslides: two racing and one that ends with guests sliding around a “champagne” or “toilet” bowl to the bottom. Waterslides are complimentary and open for most of the day.

Wonder of the Seas features a Caribbean-style pool deck, complete with colorful decor and The Lime and Coconut bar. There are three Lime and Coconut locations on the pool deck. Two are found next to the pools on either side of the ship, and the other is located on the upper pool deck.

The location above the pool deck offers comfy seating with panoramic views of the ship and ocean, and is sure to be a popular hangout spot on sea days. Signature drinks to try at The Lime and Coconut are the Rum Runner, Mai Tai, Watermelon Rita, and Lime and Coconut.

In addition to the ample seating around the pool deck, Wonder of the Seas has several casitas available for reservation. These come at an extra cost and provide a covered daybed option for guests looking for a bit more comfort. The casitas on Wonder of the Seas are all located on the upper pool deck on deck 16.

Wonder of the Seas has more diverse pool seating compared to other Oasis Class ships. Across from the massive television overlooking the pool are padded theater chairs. These chairs are accessible throughout the day for guests looking to relax or watch a movie.

    Solarium

Like all Royal Caribbean ships, Wonder of the Seas has an adults-only Solarium. Available to guests 16 and older, the Solarium offers a peaceful escape from the hustle and bustle found elsewhere onboard.

The Solarium on Wonder of the Seas differs from other Oasis Class ships in that It is fully enclosed and climate controlled. This ensures guests are able to enjoy the Solarium in any type of weather.

Inside the Solarium are hot tubs, a small pool, and plenty of pool chairs to lounge in. Padded chairs, mushroom loungers, and sofas are available to sit in as well, leading to maximum comfort for guests.

Here guests can also find the Solarium Bridge wings, one of the hidden secrets on Wonder of the Seas.

Also located in the Solarium is the Solarium Bistro, open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The Solarium Bistro is a complimentary dining venue that usually has fewer crowds than other venues onboard. Above the Solarium Bistro is Hooked Seafood, where guests can dine on New England style seafood dishes.

Signature activities on Wonder of the Seas

Wonder of the Seas is packed with immersive, thrilling, and unique activities for guests of all ages. Most signature activities on Wonder of the Seas are included in your cruise fare. Other activities found on Wonder of the Seas include trivia, game shows, scavenger hunts, karaoke, pool games, and more.

    Adventure Ocean

Wonder of the Seas follows Royal Caribbean’s updated Adventure Ocean programming, with childcare and activities for children aged 6 months to 17 years.

Buenavista del norte: Buenavista del Norte | Hello Canary Islands

Explore the surroundings of Buenavista del Norte

Our region is considered an insider tip far away from mass tourism where you experience the real life of Tenerife with local people. Remote and well connected to the rest of the island, you can reach fast many interesting places and beautiful beaches from our guesthouse even without the need to go by car.

    Buenavista del Norte

Located in the northwesterly-most-point of Tenerife, a mountainous area with lush vegetation, rugged coast and quaint villages. Its countryside is among the most virgin of Tenerife. 80% of the municipal area is a nature reserve, like Teno Rural Park with 8.063 hectares of stunning rural and marine landscapes. The pleasant climatic conditions invite for outdoor activities. In summer, temperatures reach 20-25°C (rarely over 30°C), in winter between 17 and 20°C. In contrast to the high summer temperatures of the Mediterranean, the weather here is mild thanks to the refreshing Atlantic breeze.

Buenavista del Norte is a beautiful and peaceful village where it is easy to get in contact with the locals and their traditions. Despite of being a small village you will find everything you need in your holiday: cafes, restaurants, supermarkets, pharmacy and petrol station. Charming streets and historical buildings invite for a stroll. The market square is a social meeting point for both tinerfeños and visitors. Weekly farmer markets, musical performances and events of any kind take place there.

    Masca

Idyllic mountain village located in the heart of the Teno Rural Park. Famous for its ravine in a beautiful rural landscape of Canarian palm trees, agaves and typical architecture. A dream destination for every landscape photographer. Enjoy a walk through one of the most beautiful hamlets of the Canary Islands or do a hike down the gorge between huge volcanic walls.

Click here for our blog post about the Masca Gorge

From Buenavista del Norte you reach Masca in 30 minutes by car or by bus (lines 355 and 365). The well trained can also go there by bicycle or hiking.

    Punta de Teno

At the northwestern point of Tenerife, from here you can contemplate one of the most impressive unspoilt landscapes of the island, with the best views of La Gomera, La Palma and Los Gigantes cliffs. Take your swimsuit or snorkel equipment with you! Being the place with the longest daylight hours, you will enjoy unforgettable sunsets.

The access by private car is restricted. Public bus line 369 operates daily every hour between Buenavista del Norte and Punta de Teno.

Click here for our blog post “Traveler’s Guide to Punta de Teno”

The northern coast offers beautiful beaches to swim and relax

Visit one of the beautiful small bays and wonderful little coves to be found all along the whole north coast. Volcanic eruptions have given rise to unusual shapes, creating lovely sea water pools with crystal clear water, ideal for swimming or snorkeling.

Las Arenas Beach, Buenavista del Norte

Beautiful, small beach that is located close to Tabaiba Guesthouse. The characterictic micro climate makes it so special, because this small bay has black sand only from June to November and in winter it becomes a stone beach. Popular with surfers because of its nice big waves. Suitable for swimmers but take care of the currents and observe the behavior of the locals.

It takes you about 40 minutes to walk there along an idyllic coastal path (2,7 km). Click here for our blog post “Trail in Buenavista del Norte”

Los Barqueros Beach, Buenavista del Norte

This is the closest bay to Tabaiba Guesthouse, a wild rocky beach that is popular by locals. Some of our guests jogged there in the morning to enjoy a wake up swim in crystal clear water. Only recommended when the sea is very calm. The unguarded bay is approximately 1 km away from us.

    Lava Pools, Garachico

The most famous sea pools of Tenerife, a series of lava rock pools and sea channels where swimming is a unique experience. There’s a pool for everyone from shallow affairs to deep plunge pools as well as a sunroof, changing cabins and a varied gastronomic offer around.

Bus line 363 runs every 30 minutes between Buenavista del Norte and Garachico (9 km).

San Marcos Beach, Icod de Los Vinos

One of the most peaceful beaches in northern Tenerife, shaped like a sea shell and protected from the strong waves that typically assail most beaches in the north. Made of black volcanic sand and with all amenities you need for a relaxed beach day, including showers, sun loungers to hire and restaurants with terraces overlooking the sea.

Bus line 362 runs every hour from the main bus station in Icod de Los Vinos to the beach (travel time 10 minutes).

    El Socorro Beach, Los Realejos

This wide volcanic sand beach is the most famous in northern Tenerife for surfers. It has a restaurant and a surf school with board rental service. At any time of the year, you should take special care with the currents.

You can access the beach by car along the main North Road (C-820), where a signposted turn-off will lead you all the way down to the coast. Bus line 363 connects Buenavista del Norte to El Socorro in 1 h 15 min.

Not far from Buenavista are great places to explore

    Garachico

Once the wealthiest town on Tenerife, Garachico was engulfed in lava by an eruption in 1706. Walking through its cobbled streets and squares is the best way to discover this historic village. Garachico has a lot of nice restaurants and terraces and every now and then colourful music or theatre festivals take place.

Bus line 363 runs every 30 minutes between Buenavista del Norte and Garachico (9 km). A nice coastal path leads to the village as well as a bike trail through tropical banana plantations. For more info click our blog post “Cycling in Buenavista del Norte”

    Teno Alto

Remote hamlet of the Teno Rural Park, a relic of the customs and traditions of former times. Its traditional houses, small square and chapel are part of a vast landscape of farm terraces and fields with goat farms. Famous for its peasant character, its gastronomy and popular festivals. Taste its exquisite cheese and goat meat with a wine from El Palmar valley!

There is no bus connection to Teno. You can access by car in 30 minutes, by bicycle or on a nice hike. Read the description of the trail in our blog post “Traveler’s Guide to Punta de Teno”

    Icod de los Vinos

Here is where the Millenary Dragon Tree stands (Dracaena draco), which was declared a National Monument in 1917 and is believed to be 800 years old. From here you have one of the loveliest views of Mount Teide, Spain’s highest peak. The historic-artistic heritage of the old town and a varied commercial offer make this municipality worth a visit.

Bus line 363 takes you every 30 minutes directly from Buenavista del Norte (16 km).

    La Orotava

Located in the middle of the valley of the same name, the city stands out for its perfectly preserved constructions, which has led to the town center being declared a Historic Artistic and World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Its streets are dotted with buildings of great beauty, the typical carved wooden balconies adorn the facades of their traditional houses. Numerous terraces invite you to taste tapas and local wines. Visit one of the 10 water mills of the 16th century where the famous Canarian Gofio (toasted grain flour) was made. Today two are still in use.

La Orotava is 39 km from Buenavista del Norte and you can get there in one hour by bus connecting with Icod de Los Vinos.

La Cueva del Viento, Icod de Los Vinos

Experience a guided visit of the world’s largest lava tubes (18 km). A huge labyrinthine network of underground passages, many of which being still unexplored.

The difficulty of the tour is intermediate and it takes 2 hours. You will spend approximately 45 minutes inside the cave exploring some 250 metres (800 feet) of tubes. Information and reservation on www.cuevadelviento.net

    La Laguna

Once the capital of the island, it is a perfectly preserved historic city and UNESCO World Heritage where palaces, old mansions and characterful buildings sit cheek-by-jowl with tapas bars, antique shops and bookstores. They say the Spanish practised and perfected their colonial architectural styles here, before spiriting them off to the New World and it certainly evokes places in South America. Stroll and eat some delicious churros with hot chocolate!

La Laguna is 65 km from Buenavista del Norte and you can go by bus connecting from Icod de Los Vinos (1 h 45 min).

Buenavista del Norte – Top Secret Tenerife – Kids and Parents Air

Today’s travel diary post: about Buenavista del Norte, grasshoppers, local hairdressers and killer serpentine. Why top secret? Because information about the municipality is stored behind seven locks in the needle, the needle is in the egg, the egg is in the hands of an employee of the tourist center in Los Remedios Square in Buenavista.

    Episode 1: Canary Grasshopper

We collect the allowed 50 km/h and go to Buenavista (Buenavista-del-Norte). Cliff, tunnel – familiar road from Cape Teno . The picture outside the window is fascinating: on the left, someone threw a bunch of banana plantations, on the right, mountain giants in velvet robes rise.

Mountains shrouded in green suede, section of highway TF-42 from Buenavista del Norte. Opposite the sign for Los Silos. The coordinates on the map are 28.365505, -16.825604.

Stop, stop! This is the famous Canarian grasshopper, – I shout to my husband.

An insect has grown to the left of the roundabout.

“It’s a dragonfly,” Zhenya puzzled with Drozdov’s voice.

Dragonfly, seriously? The emblem of the municipality depicts two grasshoppers, which the locals consider the symbol of Buenavista del Norte. The date on the monument is 1659, it was in this year that locusts were hosting Tenerife. Everywhere except Buenavista. I know about this because of Garachico , but I don’t know anything about dragonflies – that means hello, grasshopper.

    Plaza de los Remedios

We park near the church of the Blessed Virgin Mary the Intercessor (Iglesia Nuestra Senora de-los-Remedios) . The “back of the head” of the church in the title photo.

We go inside. Interestingly, the temple is over 400 years old. True, in 1996 there was a fire and the main altar burned down. Below are 2 interactive photo carousels, feel free to scroll through both.

Interior decoration of the Church of the Virgin Mary in Buenavista

Electric candles. One candle 20 euro cents.

In the center of the village there is a square ( Plaza de los Remedios ), in which a round gazebo-cafe is neatly “fitted”. Oh, lazy electricians here – it’s almost 11 am, and the lights are on all over the village. Among the photos you will find cute Christmas decorations.

    Buenavista Central Square

Bust of a prominent figure in Los Remedios Square

At the table, with a cup of coffee, a gray-haired Canarian macho. He reads a magazine and periodically drills us with his eyes. I would drill too. There are many of us, we are noisy and with a bag of crackers.

I want a sign “Put food away, be human! Signature Rotavirus.

Table football revived and inspired. 2 euros, and how many emotions, it would seem.

I hear: “Feliz Navidad! Feliz Navidad! Feliz Navidad and tram-param-pam-pam Buenavista del Norte, gentlemen.” This machine with a horn invites you to New Year’s festivities.

Village color and quarantine near the ninos

Buenavista is a typical Canarian village, with old houses from the 16th century, empty streets and a very slow rhythm of life. Remember I talked about San Juan ? So – Buenavista is a hundred times slower. People are in no rush at all. And even motorists. I stand photographing the house, behind the sidewalk the width of one foot. A car is coming, I let you through, but the driver doesn’t, madam, do your job, I’ll wait. I am delighted!

And what openwork bells and balconies in the village! Slider below.

    Hand shaped door knocker.

Someone decorated the balcony for Christmas

Buenavista Street closer to the ocean

Houses closer to the ocean and the cemetery

It’s amazing – they keep the old doors here. On one of them I found a smiley face and the inscription “be happy.”

For the sake of such moments, I am ready to climb into the farthest corners of Tenerife. Dont worry, be happy!

“I will, I will definitely!” smiled back.

While I am having fun, Zhenya seated the children at the table and solemnly ordered 2 coffees. “Ninos?” The waiter asked without hiding his surprise. And ninos on breadcrumbs and water until the New Year.

3 € – the record bill for going to a restaurant in the history of travel.

Sculpture by Moises Afonso as part of a plastic bottle cap collection project. Rehabilitation at the playground.

I sat down on a bench and, in between work and a buzz from quiet Buenavista, Googled what a mysterious metal heart with corks was next to the playground. Googled zero point zero tenths of good.

I had to go to the tourist information center (Spanish and English are spoken). It turned out to be a private project called consciousness-T. The bottom line is the collection of valuable plastic for recycling.

    Canarian barbershop

“Enough work, let’s go look for a hairdresser,” Zhenya unexpectedly charged. Oh, if only we knew about the intricacies of local barbers.

Passing the Casa de la Viuda or the Widow’s House, a 17th century building with stonework on the corners.

We went around two hairdressing salons – and both women’s. But on the other hand, in one of them, we were given the address of a male barber shop.

Photographed the cemetery. Under this blue sky, at the foot of the fluffy mountains, people are also dying, alas.

If you haven’t been to the Canary cemetery yet, be sure to go. Even the place of sorrow here is somehow special, bright, calm.

From the cemetery we moved to the address on a piece of paper: Av. Daute, 10, 38480 Buenavista del Nte., Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

Barberia Mendez – an open entrance, a sofa and two similar as two drops of water barbers. By the way, the photos on the Google map are ours. We do not accept other people’s work without mentioning the author.

The interior design is simple but catchy. In addition to haircuts, tattoos are stuffed here and men’s cosmetics are sold.

Zhenya rushed to ask the cost of services (8€ haircut). The guys work in line. If you want to be beautiful – wait 40 minutes. They don’t make any reservations – the priest got up and lost her place. Nothing to do but wait. The children were assigned to the sofa, I wander back and forth along the street.

I am watching a picture: a car drives up and stops in the second lane in the center of the road. Behind her is the second. A girl comes out of the first, a guy comes out of the second. Communicate, shuffle something in the trunk. There is already a traffic jam behind them – they honk, and at least henna for young people.

Finally, it was our turn. They cut their hair in 5 minutes, just vzhuh – and you’re done. Great. But for some reason Zhenya came out with the same haircut as the barbers :). Everyone is happy – we go to the car to the square to move home to Los Gigantes.

Buenavista – Los Silos: coordinates of steep locations

You can go through Masca gorge , or as we do – through Los Silos to the serpentines of Real Las Arenas.

The views here are amazing, but the driving experience is not so good. The road is narrow, goes up sharply on turns at an angle of 360 degrees. That is, you have to turn the car almost on the spot, looking at the sky, and hoping that no one needs to go down. Slightly release the gas pedal – you stall. You rush about, as if stung, between first and second gears. My psyche could not stand it, and with shaking legs and arms, I handed the steering wheel to my husband.

The coordinates of the turn at which I lost my nerve, 28.361878, -16.802644.

3 images at once from the next point. Coordinates on google maps 28.361614, -16.802446. You already know how to use the gallery.

Rock with a hole from the same point.

    Paragliding

Amazing location – an old house with a cross near the village of La Tierra del Trigo.

    Coordinates 28.356683, -16.802679.

Satellite photo of this house looks different. It is gray, shabby, without arches. It would be very interesting to know what happened here. Why this cross. But the location is also remarkable for the cramped streets. To touch the wall, you just need to look out the car window.

And finally, on the same road is the mirador El Tanque with a stunning view of the Teide volcano .

I was in such a hurry that I forgot to enter the official website of Buenavista. And when I finished the post, there was nowhere to squeeze it in. I will leave here https://buenavistadelnorte.es/.

January is the coldest month together with February on the northern hemisphere of the planet Earth. For those, who love skiing, the Alps are one of the most popular destinations at this time of the year. But even the Colorado mountains in the United States of America or the ski resorts of Japan and South Korea are a popular destination for winter sports enthusiasts.

On the other hand countries of the southern hemisphere are enjoying full summer in January. This means that January is a great month to visit countries like New Zealand, South Australia and the island of Tasmania.

In South America January is a good time to see Colombia, Venezuela, Chile and the Argentine (Patagonia and Tierra del Fuego). This month is also the most suitable for cruises to Antarctica. They are only realizable in the short summer, which is reduced to the period between December and February.

The Caribbean islands and Mexico are one of the best destinations to visit in January. In Baja California/Mexico the whale watching period begins in mid-January and ends in April. Even the nations of Central America such as Guatemala, Belize, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, Honduras and Panama are in their dry season.

In Asia the countries of Indochina like Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, but also Northern Thailand and Burma have in this month of the year a dry and fresh climate. Even India during January has a dry and relatively cooler climate. The south-west coast of the island of Ceylon/Sri Lanka has its driest period in this month and in February. January also represents the beginning of the dry season in the atolls of the Maldives islands. Also in the Philippines we are at the beginning of the dry season and therefore begins the best period for a trip to this wonderful archipelago in January.

Also in Asia the Persian Gulf area is in the middle of winter and therefore is the best time to visit thanks to mild temperatures and plenty of sun: Oman, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and other Arabian Peninsula countries are a good destination at this time of the year. Why not take a short break in the spectacular city of Dubai?

In Africa January is a good time to visit the countries of the Gulf of Guinea. Ethiopia is also a good destination to visit in this month. The area of Cape Town/South Africa has an excellent climate during this time of the year. The Canary islands, islands of eternal spring, have an excellent climate during January.

Summer in January or where to go in the first months of the year | by Easy_Guide

Christmas holidays are got to the end and the most cheerful winter days are behind us, but the spring is still pretty far away. So where to go in January-February. Most people get tired of winter so they prefer to travel to warm countries, lie on the beach, swim in the ocean, enjoy the summer. In this article, I will tell you about the most popular resorts where you can escape from the cold winter.

South and South-East Asia are especially popular in winter.

    Thailand

Thailand — one of the most popular resorts for travel in January-February, the temperature at this time of year is quite comfortable 25–27°C. The service level is getting higher and higher each year. Thailand offers not only a beach rest but also a variety of excursions: museums, temples, natural attractions. In winter, it is better to go to resorts such as Phuket, Pattaya, Hua Hin, Krabi

    India

India is a country with a rich history and centuries-old traditions. People come here not only to lie on the beach but also to dig into the culture of the country, to see sights, to do yoga or other eastern practices. Certainly, the most popular Indian resort is Goa, white beaches, service at the highest level, comfortable weather in January and February. But don’t forget about other resorts such as Karnataka and Kerala, rest here will be no less bright than in Goa, but the prices are slightly lower, and there are a little fewer tourists.

    The Maldives

For tourists with a tight-filled purse, the Maldives is a great place to stay. Prices here are certainly higher than in most resorts, however, the Islands are not becoming less popular. The Maldives is perfect for those who are tired of the crowded cities and want to relax in a quietness away from people, go diving, meditate near the Indian ocean, get massage. The Maldives is the perfect resort to travel with your soul mate. Literally, everything on the Islands is reminding about romantic.

    Sri Lanka

A great place to travel to in these winter months can be Sri Lanka. The best way to explore the island is by renting a scooter. You can cross the entire island from West to East and see all the local beauty, visit tea plantations and take pictures with local fishermen. As a place to stay, it is better to choose resorts of the South and West coast. And you should not stop on the East coast because of the rainy season.

Also, if you want to enjoy the warmth in these last winter months, the Caribbean, South and Central America will be an excellent choice.

    Mexico

Here you will find entertainment for any taste for beach lovers and for those who prefer active leisure. Mexico is a country with a rich culture. Arriving here, you should definitely visit its national parks, see the Mayan pyramids, go to different museums. For a beach holiday is better to choose resorts at the Caribbean Sea or the Gulf of Mexico. And those who like “hot” holiday, should stay in Acapulco, the most famous and hottest resort in the country.

    Cuba

Another great place to stay is the country of eternal summer Cuba. Cuba it is music, holidays and fun, you will not find such an atmosphere anywhere else. First of all, people go to Cuba for a real Cuban mood. However, do not forget, that it is winter in January and February in Cuba. Of course, you will not find snow there, and in the afternoon the temperature rarely drops below 25°C. But the evenings could be quite cold, so you should get clothes with long sleeves. Also, the ocean in the North of Cuba could be not warm enough, so it is better to choose southern resorts such as Santiago de Cuba, Manzanillo, Cayo Largo.

    Brazil

January and February are the summer months in Brazil, so there is a peak of tourist activity there. Especially in February because the famous Brazilian Carnival is celebrated throughout the country. Because of this, hotels should be booked in advance, and the prices for them in these months are much higher. You should also get in mind that the summer in the country is very hot so the temperature often exceeds 40°C. But if you want to feel the real atmosphere of Brazil, the one that we used to see in the pictures on the Internet, then go there at this time of year. Strong emotions will be guaranteed.

In General, the list of resorts where you can feel summer in these winter months is quite large, it all depends on your financial capabilities, but even with a small budget it is possible to escape from the cold winter and enjoy the sun and warmth. And with EasyGuide you can significantly reduce your costs by sharing them with other travelers and at the same time find a great company.

I wish summer was all year round: top countries where it is warm 365 days a year

    Felix Garashko
    April 14, 2021

Heat is gradually beginning to penetrate Moscow, and the last remnants of snow are rapidly melting, marking the arrival of comfortable temperatures on the streets of the city. Summer is the time of the year that everyone starts to miss with the first cold and continues throughout the long winter and even into spring. This is because the frequent vagaries of the weather, slush on the roads and piercing wind do not in any way encourage active pastime, fun walks and just a good mood. At such times, you want to drop everything and go to a place where summer lives on a permanent basis. There is such an opportunity – they told about the hot places in our selection.

    Cuba

    • Summer temperature: +28°C
    • Winter temperature: +23°C

weather, although a trip to Liberty Island can be planned for absolutely any month of the year. The tourist season in Cuba continues all year round, but it is winter that becomes the high season, attracting a huge number of tourists from all over the world.

This is not surprising, because every inhabitant of a region with not the warmest climate dreams of a piece of summer in a series of cold January days. In addition to a quality beach holiday, this time of the year you can also experience Cuban festivals that deserve special attention. And the point here is not so much the temperature, although this aspect plays a very important role.

    United Arab Emirates

    • Summer temperature: +38°C
    • Temperature in winter: +22° С

Going to a resort in the UAE in summer is a desperate undertaking, because the scorching sun will exhaust tourists, negatively affecting the quality of rest. But in winter the weather here is incredibly comfortable. Traditionally, the period from January to March is considered the best, when the thermometers rarely rise above 25-28 degrees Celsius, but this is quite enough to take sunbaths, enjoy the riot of flowering in the gardens, and generally spend your leisure time actively. The sea at this time is still a bit cold (about 18 degrees Celsius), but the most daring can try to take a dip, and for everyone else there are heated outdoor pools.

    India (Goa)

    • Summer temperature: +29°C
    • Winter temperature: +31°C

Goa is a heavenly place, which is especially attractive just in winter. In general, holidays in India are distinguished by their own color, atmosphere and eccentricity. Many go here not for beach relaxation, but for moral and physical cleansing, rethinking and emotional development. This is facilitated by a huge number of spiritual practice centers and yoga studios, which interest vacationers even more than warm sand and bright sun. However, it is also impossible to refuse the beach in such conditions, because the winter in Goa is traditionally the best time for “seal rest”, as well as diving.

    Thailand

    • Summer temperature: +30°C
    • Winter temperature: +26°C

A favorite winter destination for many Russians is Thailand. It is not surprising, because at this time of the year the so-called velvet season takes place here, which is distinguished by dry and warm weather. Many say that Thailand is a country of contrasts, where ancient monuments and temples easily harmonize with innovative infrastructure and all the technologies of the 21st century. Everyone will find leisure here to their taste, which distinguishes this direction from many others focused specifically on beach holidays. Perhaps this is the secret of the country’s popularity among tourists of all countries, because not everywhere exotic goes side by side with comfort and civilization.

    Brazil

    • Summer temperature: +29°C
    • Winter temperature: +25°C

Vibrant and colorful Brazil is in demand all year round among tourists. The incredible atmosphere and the Latin American spirit make it possible to turn an ordinary vacation into a real holiday, even in winter or summer. The country is large and very multifaceted, so going here only for beach activities is a big mistake, especially when it comes to winter periods and the beginning of spring. At this time, you need to find the strength to leave a comfortable sun lounger and go to the streets to see firsthand the largest and most famous carnival in the world, which is traditionally held just during this period.

    Mexico

    • Summer temperature: +31°C
    • Winter temperature: +26°C

For a fabulous summer vibe in winter, you can go to Mexico. Believe me, a 12-hour flight to this country will pay off in full, as soon as you have to face the local flavor. Comfortable weather fully creates the conditions for a beach holiday, although there is no mass flow of tourists here in January and February. However, this is rather an advantage of Mexican resorts, because in this case prices become more affordable, and the rest itself is even calmer and more pleasant. The sea, the sun and a great mood – what else do you need at a time when snow is raging in your native Moscow?

    Indonesia (Bali)

    • Temperature in summer: +28° С
    • Temperature in winter: +30° С Bali, where a huge number of tourists go before the onset of the monsoon season. Winter on the island is characterized by mild and sunny weather. In December and January, a large number of our compatriots fly here. For everyone at this time, they organize various interactive activities that add variety to a passive beach holiday. The Chinese New Year is celebrated here on a grand scale with a large number of special processions and festivals. However, the aesthetics of the island will amaze anyone without any “tourist tinsel”, because the natural beauties of Bali are its main calling card.

      Climate of Asia

A significant part of Foreign Asia is located in the subtropical zone, the extreme south goes into the equatorial zone, the north – into the temperate one.

Radiation balance from 30 kcal/cm2 in the north to 120 kcal/cm2 per year in the south. The total solar radiation in Arabia is 200-220 kcal / cm2 – the maximum figure on Earth.

Air circulation has well-marked seasonal differences – monsoonal circulation can be traced. In winter, most of Asia is occupied by the Siberian anticyclone with its center in Mongolia. On its eastern edge, cold continental air is carried to the south and southeast – the winter monsoon from November to March. The direction of the winter monsoon changes as it moves from north to south: in northeast China, Korea and Japan it has a northwest direction, in southeast China and northern Vietnam it has a northeast direction. In South Asia, the winter monsoon is directed from the northeast and is reinforced here by zonal trade wind circulation. The same direction of winds in Southwest Asia.

In summer (from May-June to October), the summer monsoon sets in, which brings moisture to Hindustan and Indochina. It is enhanced by the air masses of the southern hemisphere.

On the whole, monsoon circulation is characteristic of most of Foreign Asia, with the exception of its western outskirts. The circulation of the atmosphere in the western part is different. In summer, high pressure is established here (a spur of the Azores High), in winter air masses come from the Atlantic. Therefore, Western Asia, in terms of the nature of circulation processes, resembles the European Mediterranean.

The lowest average January temperatures in the area of the Siberian anticyclone. The weather here is clear, dry and frosty, contributing to the freezing of the soil and the preservation of permafrost spots in Northern Mongolia and Northeast China. To the south, winter temperatures increase, but remain abnormally low compared to other regions of the Earth, at these latitudes.

In Southeast Asia, the winter monsoon merges with the northeast trade wind and brings precipitation to the east coast of Indochina.

Winter temperatures in South Asia are high (+16, +20°). But Hindustan, closed from the north by the Himalayas, is warmer than Indochina. The +20° isotherm in India runs along the northern tropic, in Indochina along 10° N. On the islands of the Malay Archipelago, winter temperatures are +25°.

The Near Asian highlands are under the influence of Mediterranean cyclones, which bring precipitation here. To the east, the action of cyclones is weakening, but over the Persian Gulf they are again activated on a segment of the polar front. The alternation of cyclones and anticyclones determines sharp and frequent temperature fluctuations.

January isotherms in the tropical and temperate zones run from west to east, but in the eastern part they bend to the northeast – the influence of Kuroshio.

In the western part of the mainland, the isotherms are closed and frame the interior regions of low temperatures in the Near Asian highlands.

The lowest winter temperatures (-50°) are characteristic of the basins of Central Asia. Severe frosts are in Western Tibet.

In summer, high temperatures and low pressure set in over Southeast and partly Central Asia. The sea masses of the summer monsoon rush to the center of the mainland, bringing moisture and a relative decrease in temperature. Consequently, in Southeast Asia, especially in its eastern part, temperatures are lower both in winter and summer. The summer monsoon penetrates from the Pacific Ocean to the mainland at a distance of 800-1500 km, from the Indian Ocean to the Himalayas.

The highest summer temperatures are in Southwest Asia, where the plains of Lower Mesopotamia and Arabia have stable hot weather, maximum +55°. The coolest places in summer are in the northeast of Hokkaido – the average July temperatures reach +20°C.

In contrast to Europe, in a large part of Foreign Asia the climate is sharply continental (high annual temperature amplitudes). In Beijing, the amplitudes are 66°, Urumqi 78°, and seasonal fluctuations are also large.

Wet and dry areas stand out. The first include the south and southeast, the second – the center, west and southwest of the mainland. In humid areas, most of the precipitation occurs in the summer. Only the island part and the Malay Peninsula are abundantly moistened in all seasons of the year. In dry areas, the maximum precipitation occurs either in winter (west) or in summer (center). In the wettest place in the world (Cherrapunji) annual precipitation ranges from 5500 mm (driest year) to 23000 mm (wettest year) with an average of 12000 mm.

The Equatorial climate zone covers the Malay Archipelago (excluding East Java and the Lesser Sunda Islands), the Malay Peninsula, southwest Sri Lanka and the south of the Philippines. During the year, maritime equatorial air masses, formed from tropical trade winds, dominate. Abundant precipitation (up to 4000 mm) and constantly high temperatures (+25 – +23 °) are characteristic.

The subequatorial belt includes Hindustan, Indochina, the Indo-Gangetic plain, Southeast China, Sri Lanka and the Philippines. The seasonal change of air masses is characteristic: in summer, humid equatorial air brought by the monsoon, in winter, relatively dry tropical trade winds of the northern hemisphere. Precipitation in summer, winter is dry and warm. The hottest time of the year is spring (up to +40°C). Precipitation increases on the windward slopes and decreases on the leeward slopes of mountains. So, on the windward slopes of the Assam Mountains, an average of 12000 mm per year, on the leeward – about 1700 mm. The southeast of Hindustan and Indochina, the northeast of Sri Lanka and the Philippines receive winter precipitation with the northeast monsoon, which is enriched with moisture over the ocean.

The western part of Asia (the south of the Arabian Peninsula, the south of Mesopotamia, the Iranian Highlands and the Thar Desert) belongs to the tropical zone. Continental tropical air masses dominate throughout the year. Clear, dry weather. Average July temperatures are about +30°, January +12°- +16°. Precipitation everywhere is less than 100 mm, which falls in winter in the north and in summer in the south.

The subtropical zone is characterized by the dominance of moderate air masses in winter and tropical ones in summer. There are several types of climate in the belt. In the west – the southern and western coasts of Asia Minor, the Levant and the north of Mesopotamia – a Mediterranean climate (dry hot summers, warm wet winters). The average January temperature is from +4° in the north to +12° in the south. Precipitation on the plains is 500-600 mm, in mountainous areas up to 3000 mm. The Western Asian highlands and southern Central Asia are characterized by a subtropical continental climate with hot summers and relatively cold winters. In summer, the air acquires the properties of continental tropical air masses. Large annual amplitudes. Precipitation less than 300 mm. In the western part, they are associated with the passage of the Iranian branch of the polar front in spring. The southwest monsoon brings precipitation to the eastern part of the Iranian Highlands. In the eastern sector of the subtropical zone, there are the Japanese Islands (without Hokkaido), Eastern China, and the south of the Korean Peninsula. A subtropical monsoon climate is characteristic: in winter, cold, moist air masses of the Siberian anticyclone prevail. The summer monsoon brings much more precipitation than the winter monsoon. On the windward slopes of the mountains, up to 2000 mm of precipitation falls, on the plains – 700-900 mm.

Tibet is characterized by a sharply continental alpine climate.

There are also two types of climate in the temperate zone: monsoonal and continental. Mongolia and Northwestern China (Dzungaria) have a temperate continental climate.

Best Time of Year To Visit Europe

    Last updated:

    11.02.2022

Europe is a year-round travel destination, and because we are a little bit obsessed with traveling, we believe that anytime is the best time to visit it! Even so, the most pleasant time for traveling in Europe starts from May to July and continues throughout September.

So does this mean you have to skip fall and winter? Not at all, every season has its distinct charm, so it really all depends on where you’re planning to go, how well you’re prepared for the trip, and whether the season you choose actually fits your vacation expectations. Read our guide to learn all about the so-called “peak-season” and “off-season” to see which timing best matches you and your vacation preferences.

Why travel to Europe in peak-season?

“If sun, warm weather, activities & beaches is the name of the game”

A “peak-season”, or high-season, in Europe roughly ranges from late May until July, and in some destinations also continues from September till October. The time from late April until June and from September through October is also called “shoulder-season”.

    ADVANTAGES:

    • Pleasant weather. Our long-time experience in the travel industry dictates that Europe is at its enchanting best in summer, spring, and early fall. And how couldn’t it be?
    • Green nature. It is a truly magnificent natural wonders show, greener than at any other time of the year, and the most suitable to discover the most beautiful sceneries, the artifacts of human culture, national parks, and forests.
    • Family time. The peak-season is also the best time for family vacations, since kids don’t have classes anymore, and parents can easily find a suitable date for all members of the family.
    • More flight options. Our overseas travelers from the United States and Australia prefer this time of the year also because airlines release more flights, and it is more convenient to arrange longer or multi-city tours.

    Wheather is a bonus!
Sunny weather, warm water, and Longer light days translate into more time for touring the cities, visiting museums, and restaurants.

    DISADVANTAGES:

    • Higher demand. When many people set out for vacation, prices skyrocket, reservations become scarce and tours are quickly sold out. Last-minute planning for high-season vacations is hardly possible.
    • Overwhelming planning. Planning for peak-season can be a bit more stressful since you are trying to “catch” the suitable dates, reasonable prices, rooms with nice views, and tours with the best experiences. Some travelers simply want to avoid this hassle and choose to select off-season dates.

    Last minute vacation? Impossible!
Peak-season is saturated with tourists, and it’s very difficult to get a room with a nice view or even a simple room at some places. Plan in advance!

What to expect from peak-season tours with Firebird?

We always have a number of 4-5-star downtown hotels reserved in advance for our peak-season travelers, that’s why our clients get the best accommodation and don’t need to choose from only what’s left.

We also have our local guides ready to visit the main sights together with our small groups or private travelers. The hotels we select are always centrally located and we arrange private drivers for day tours and hotel transfers.

All of this ensures that our travelers can start their touring early in the morning, avoid heavy tourist crowds and excruciating hot temperatures, as well as save a lot of time for qualitative no-rush sightseeing.

Because of downtown accommodation and carefully-planned sharp logistics, our travelers can spend their evenings wandering the streets of vibrant cities and having dinners at various local cafes and restaurants, instead of simply resting at boutique hotels located on the outskirts from which transportation to the center is often complicated or very expensive.

    Your comfort comes first
We reserved only the best central accommodation and excellent guides for your trip. You will start your day early to avoid crowds and the highest temperatures.

    Top peak-season destinations

Italy, Spain, Portugal, Morocco, France, Russia, Scandinavia – are the destinations loved for their warm weather, a promise of sun, and culinary experiences. So it is no surprise that from May till July, and September, we have many travelers and adventurers there.

It is still worth going to these destinations in peak-season despite the higher number of tourists because let’s admit it, there’s a valid reason why so many travelers come to Europe specifically at that time of the year – it is undeniably breathtaking and gorgeous, from nature and city colors to multiple cultural sights.

Scandinavia, Russia, Baltics, Britain is where the best weather and longest days are possible, and where the big crowds of other destinations are rare even during peak-season months.

    • See all Firebird tours by season: Spring tours, Summer tours, Fall tours, Winter tours.

    Less crowds & better weather?
If you like your personal space and low-temperature weather, but still want to travel during the peak season, head to Northern Europe.

What’s our advice for peak-season travelers?

    • We highly advise booking all services in advance, the more you wait, the fewer choices for available tours and accommodation you get. Read more why to book in advance.
    • If you want to lock in your trip for less, search for companies that plan tours 1 year in advance & offer early bird deals.
    • When you travel overseas, consider having more quality time exploring the destination.
    • Top attractions are usually crowded with tourists in the peak-season. Make sure you or your tour operator arrange your sightseeing tours as early as possible to avoid long lines.
    • Provided the chance, choose centrally located hotels for your stay. This will also help you to reach the sights early in the morning and give you more freedom to explore in your leisure time.
    • If possible, get a private driver. It saves a lot of time and you can get anywhere you need before the big crowd of tourists.
    • Expect high temperatures, so pack your clothes wisely. Plus, don’t forget your comfortable walking shoes.
    • July is one of the rainiest months in some European countries (France, United Kingdom, Germany, Switzerland), so just in case, pack an umbrella and a light jacket if traveling in July.
    • Choose few days for the local experience, and allow some time to enjoy smaller delights like various gourmet tours and unbeaten paths.

Get the bus tour idea out of your head
You’ll have less comfort, will have to rush through the sights and points of interest, and often stay in hotels so far from the city center, that you’ll have to waste from 2 to 3 hours of your precious vacation time just to commute back and forth every day..

Why travel to Europe in off-season?

“If season colors, tranquility, culture & saving money is the name of the game …”

The so-called “off-season” is not the same for all destinations around the globe, but in Europe, it usually starts from late October and continues through November, March, and the beginning of April.

    ADVANTAGES:

    • No tourist crowds, less expensive. We have built more than 70 thousand itineraries to Europe and beyond in the last few years, and what we noticed is that during the so-called off-season, and especially in March and April, locals are often more receptive to your requests – so you can not only get more suitable prices but also upgrades & special offers. The off-season grants benefits like thinner tourist crowds, better tour and airfare prices, quieter and cheaper hotels. Moreover, last minute planning is almost always possible for off-season travel.
    • Different blooming nature. This is the time when the traveler can enjoy a spectrum of harvest-season or spring-blooming colors. Traveling in October you will find the weather still warm in most of Europe, and water in some countries like Portugal may even be warmer than during the summer months.
    • Northern Lights. Travelers also plan their tours from September to April if they dream of witnessing the famous Northern Lights since it is the very best time to do it.

    Off-season all the way!
To get better value for your trip, we always advice traveling from late October all the way to the beginning of April. Less crowded and expensive as well as better availability of accommodation and flights.

    DISADVANTAGES:

    • Shorter days. Starting from September the days get shorter and thus you get less time to explore your destination.
    • Overwhelming planning. You will need to spend more time planning as some smaller cities may have no attractions or accommodation for the off-season. Nevertheless, some cities are still vibrant but much quieter, and still have pleasant weather, less traffic, often still green landscapes. Some countries get colder than others during off-season, so you need to be aware when choosing your destination.

    Get some help with planning
Not all attractions are open during the off-season, keep that in mind, and ask for help!

What to expect from off-season tours with Firebird?

Our 10+ year experience shows that over the years off-season, and especially fall vacations, have become more and more popular, and for a reason.

Most travelers are 40+, 50+, 70+, so often their schedule is not limited to only the summer, and they want to brighten their fall and even winter with a nice vacation to Europe. Why? Because it is less crowded, the colors are amazing in fall, and the weather is often more pleasant then what they have back at home.

Winter in some destinations offers unforgettable winter activities like husky dog sledding or visiting Santa’s village.

And one of the main reasons why off-season tours are perfect when planned by our destination specialists is they plan every single aspect of your tour. What does this mean for our travelers? Correct, a no-worry, well-arranged, simply better tour with top destinations and sights included.

    You won’t lift a finger
We arrange everything from airport transfers and comfortable hotels to private drivers and multiple guided tours with local professionals.

    Top off-season destinations

Italy, Spain, Portugal, and France are some of the most famous destinations for off-season travel, especially for April and March.

For those considering colder months like November – December, we suggest visiting Lapland, Switzerland, or Scandinavia to enjoy the full spector of winter fun from snowmobile rides and visiting indegenious Sami people to Northern Lights seeking.

    • See all Firebird tours by season: Spring tours, Summer tours, Fall tours, Winter tours.

    Thinking about fall travel?
The fall is perfect for Morocco and Britain, welcoming tourists all year round and offering many cultural activities.

What’s our advice for off-season travelers?

    • Since days get shorter, you will have less time to visit sights, it means you need great logistics. Do your research on which sights are still open for visitors, carefully check all necessary transport timetables, and make sure to call ahead of time to confirm that your attraction (e.g. museum) is open.
    • You will find that some sights close during the off-season, consider going to bigger cities or get a local guide or a travel company that works with local professionals.
    • Plan your trip around a special event or celebration in your destination. Celebrate with the country and get a glimpse of real traditions and local life.
    • Note that 1-3 weeks leading up to and following Christmas can sometimes feel like a high season in many parts of Europe.
    • Countries famous for skiing won’t have price drops during winter months, you can also expect crowds.
    • You can encounter harder weather conditions, so pack your bags carefully – there is no such thing as bad weather only bad clothing, right?

Traveling to Europe is such an adventure, go for it any time of the year! Browse our select tours to Europe and plan a journey to remember for a lifetime. Whether you choose to visit Europe during the peak or off-season, having a solid backup strategy is always important, especially now as lockdown restrictions and travel bans continue to dictate how and where we can travel. Although that’s not likely to change anytime soon, you can still enjoy a great trip with proper precautions and by being mindful of the global situation every step of the way.

    Winter = extra savings
If you don’t mind frosty temperatures, consider going even in winter months, which can mean incredible discounts and quiet attractions.

When is the best time to visit Europe? Read our article for the best months to visit Europe, including a guide to the best places to visit on the continent by month and season

Planning a trip and wondering when is the best time to visit Europe? This guide will analyze the climate of each region and each season in Europe, helping you to optimize your trip.

When is the best time to visit Europe?

The answer to the question below is very relative. Europe is a large continent and offers great attractions all year round. When to visit Europe will depend on the purpose of your trip. If you are visiting the region in January, this is most likely the best time for skiing. For this reason, we will describe the weather and the influx of tourists to different parts of Europe for each season and month.

Another important factor influencing your visit to Europe is your travel budget. If budget is an important aspect of your trip, with this guide below you can also optimize your trip to see the most of Europe at the lowest price.

Let’s now analyze each season in different parts of Europe. After we look at the weather and tourist influx by month in Europe. Finally, we will give a brief overview of when to visit Europe depending on the specific purpose of your trip.

    Spring in Europe

Spring is probably the best time to visit Europe for most types of visitors. This season offers two special benefits that will delight almost any visitor: pleasant weather and affordable prices. Astronomical spring begins at the end of March and ends at the end of June in Europe. Meteorological spring starts on March 1st and ends on May 31st.

Although spring is usually a good time to visit most of the continent because of the pleasant weather, this is not the case in all parts of Europe. The further north and east you travel in Europe, the colder it gets. So, especially in early spring, you can still catch frosty weather and a lot of snow in Northern and Eastern Europe. The same can be said for the mountainous parts of Europe, where skiing is still one of the recreational options.

    Spring in Southern Europe

Spring is a great time to visit Southern Europe. This is especially true if you are considering some beach destinations in countries such as Spain, Greece or Italy. The water temperatures in the Mediterranean tend to be very attractive from mid to late spring, and the beach towns aren’t as crowded as they are in July or August.

    Spring in Western Europe

Arriving in Western Europe in the spring will generally guarantee you a less crowded and more affordable trip than if you visit in the summer. Countries in Europe like France, Switzerland or the UK are not only among the most visited but also among the most expensive to travel on the continent. For this reason, choosing spring will certainly represent a huge budget cut for your European trip.

Amsterdam and Paris are great choices in spring. Spring is a great time to visit most of Germany, as well as Austria and Belgium.

Spring in Central and Eastern Europe

Early spring can still be quite cold in Central and Eastern Europe, especially in countries such as Poland, Romania, Ukraine or Russia. Temperatures rise sharply in April, and May is already ideal for outdoor activities and sightseeing in all these countries.

Since Central and Eastern Europe is usually cheaper and less visited than Western European countries, you can find even cheaper prices in spring. April and May offer quite expensive travel to countries such as the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovenia and Slovakia.

    Spring in Northern Europe

Northern Europe is famous for its cold weather, and spring in this part of the continent is much colder. This is not uncommon for visitors. They face freezing temperatures in late March and April in most of the Nordic countries. However, temperatures in the region are already much more pleasant than in winter.

Since Northern Europe is also known for its high prices, spring offers the best prices for accommodation and activities in the region. However, make sure you pack your bags with warm clothes before heading to the northernmost parts of the continent in the spring.

Best countries to visit in spring in Europe

The truth is that almost all of Europe is worth visiting in spring. If you prefer warmer weather, consider Greece, Spain, Portugal and Cyprus.

If you don’t mind possible cold winds, Spring is definitely the best time to visit Europe, both for your entertainment and for your pocket.

Saving money on London attractions with the London Pass

    Summer in Europe

Summer is the busiest season in Europe. Visiting Europe in the summer has many advantages, but there are also some disadvantages for visitors to the Old Continent. Astronomical summer begins at the end of June and ends at the end of September in Europe. Meteorological summer begins on June 1 and ends on August 31.

Coming to many European countries in the summer, you can see the sights and enjoy the beaches, lakes and other recreational activities. It should be borne in mind that in summer the prices are the highest for both air tickets and accommodation.

    Summer in Southern Europe

It is during the summer that Southern Europe becomes very busy. The city’s usually calm beaches and visitor entertainment are packed even at night. Large cities such as Barcelona, Rome or Lisbon have a huge influx of tourists.

Keep in mind that temperatures in Southern Europe can soar above 40 C.

    Summer in Western Europe

As in all regions of the continent, Western Europe has the highest influx of tourists in summer. However, unlike in Southern and parts of Central and Eastern Europe, temperatures in Western Europe tend to be milder.

Visiting Western Europe in summer is a great idea for sightseeing and outdoor activities. Keep in mind that prices in Western Europe are quite high at almost any time of the year, but especially in summer.

Summer in Central and Eastern Europe

Traveling in Central and Eastern Europe in summer can be a good idea if you want to get away from the crowds in the Western or Southern part of the continent. While some cities like Prague or Budapest are crowded in the summer, other regions can offer quite a relaxing vibe. Among them are cities such as Warsaw in Poland or Zagreb in Croatia.

Central and Eastern Europe offers great beach destinations with a vibrant nightlife. Cities such as Odessa in Ukraine, Varna in Bulgaria can be a great option.

Central and Eastern Europe tends to be quite hot in the summer, but this will depend on your exact destination. Cities like Budapest or Belgrade are known for quite high temperatures in summer. In the Czech Republic, Poland, Belarus and Russia, summers are usually milder.

    Summer in Northern Europe

The best time to visit Northern Europe is definitely summer. The temperature is ideal for walking both day and night. The days in this part of the world are quite long due to the high latitudes.

The difference in prices from summer to spring or autumn is less significant in Northern Europe than in other regions. For this reason, if you have the opportunity to visit Northern Europe, try to do it in the summer.

Best countries to visit in summer in Europe

Summer is definitely a great time to visit Europe. Long and warm days invite almost all kinds of activities, including visits to historical sites, sports and night walks. However, you can avoid some countries where the heat can be extreme, such as the countryside of Portugal and Spain, Southern Italy, Serbia and Macedonia.

Northern European countries such as Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland are a great idea to visit in summer. In addition, the UK, Ireland, Germany and the Benelux are very pleasant summer destinations in Europe.

If you want to enjoy sunbathing, swimming and vibrant nightlife, southern European countries are a great choice in summer. From Portugal to the Côte d’Azur, from Croatia to the Black Sea, you are guaranteed action-packed days and exciting nights in most European summer destinations.

The largest public parks in New York

    Autumn in Europe

Visiting Europe in autumn is a great idea for two reasons: price and temperature. Autumn is also a great time to enjoy good weather with much less crowds in most destinations. Astronomical autumn begins at the end of September and ends at the end of November in Europe. Meteorological autumn begins on September 1 and ends on November 30.

Early autumn is a great time to enjoy a number of destinations in Europe. The beaches are less crowded and accommodation is more affordable. Mid-autumn is beautiful in Central and Eastern Europe, with its wonderful colors and falling leaves. In addition, prices have been significantly reduced since September, so this is a good idea for budget travelers.

    Autumn in Southern Europe

Autumn is a great time to visit Southern Europe. Early autumn, especially in September and early October, is still a great option if you want to enjoy the beach in a number of European destinations. Among them are the southern coast of Spain, the Algarve region in Portugal, Crete and Cyprus.

    Autumn in Western Europe

Autumn, together with spring, is the best time to visit Europe. In autumn, in most Western European countries, the air temperature is pleasant, and there are enough days for sightseeing and outdoor activities.

Prices are lower in autumn and it will be easier for you to buy air tickets and book a hotel in autumn compared to summer. Belgium, Germany and France are great choices in autumn.

Autumn in Central and Eastern Europe

Central and Eastern Europe are extremely beautiful in autumn with their red and orange vegetation coloring the region’s landscape. Just like in other parts of the continent, there is a lower influx of tourists in autumn compared to summer in Central and Eastern Europe.

You can still enjoy the beach on the Croatian and Montenegrin coasts in late September and early October. However, temperatures drop significantly in October, and November can be very cold in many of these regions. Snow showers usually occur from October in many countries, but especially in Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and Poland.

    Autumn in Northern Europe

Early autumn is still a good time to enjoy Northern Europe. Since the beginning of October, the air temperature is usually much lower, and often below zero. In autumn, the days are much shorter, especially towards the end.

Prices, like temperatures, are getting significantly lower. October is a great time to enjoy cities like Tallinn in Estonia or Copenhagen in Denmark.

Best countries to visit in autumn in Europe

Europe offers many options in autumn. Especially in France, Italy, Switzerland and Austria in October.

If you want to enjoy the beach, Greece, Spain and Montenegro are viable options.

    Winter in Europe

Winter in Europe is enchanting in December with various Christmas markets and some of the best places in the world for winter sports. Winter is the best time to visit Europe if you don’t mind the cold and want the cheapest rates for accommodation and flights. Astronomical winter begins at the end of December and ends at the end of March in Europe. Meteorological winter begins on December 1 and ends on February 28.

    Winter in Southern Europe

Winter in Southern Europe is a great option if you are looking for milder temperatures. While you can no longer swim in the sea, the temperatures are usually quite pleasant in places like Southern Spain, Portugal, Greece and Malta. Spain can be a good option for winter sports if you want to save money. A good option is the Sierra Nevada.

    Winter in Western Europe

Winter in Western Europe is relatively cold, with occasional snowfall over most of the region. Western Europe can be a great option to travel in winter if you are looking for budget deals. Hotels at the lowest prices in January and February in most Western European destinations (with the exception of the winter sports area and some other specific cases).

For winter travelers, the best time to visit Europe is in December. Most Western European cities organize beautiful and colorful Christmas markets. December is much more interesting in terms of events and festivals than January and February.

If you love winter sports, this is your season to enjoy Western Europe. The most famous ski resorts in Switzerland, Austria and France. Other interesting options are in Andorra and Italy.

Winter in Central and Eastern Europe

Winter in Central and Eastern Europe is rather cold. The days are short and temperatures are often below freezing.

Prices, on the other hand, are very attractive this season. For those who can stand the cold, Prague and Budapest are extremely affordable options in winter. For winter sports enthusiasts, Central and Eastern Europe offer fairly affordable alternatives. Some options for skiing on the cheap are in Slovenia, Slovakia, Poland, Romania and Bulgaria.

    Winter in Northern Europe

Winter in Northern Europe is dark and cold, but darker the colder it gets. Due to the region’s high latitude, winter days are the shortest in Northern Europe. If you want to experience a winter wonderland or aurora chase, this is the time to visit in Europe during winter.

Best countries to visit in winter in Europe

Winter is the best time to visit Europe if you are coming for winter sports. If that’s your goal, try places like the French Alps or Switzerland.

If you want to come to Europe in winter but want to avoid the cold as much as possible, there are some other options. Portugal and Southern Spain are not only warmer than most parts of Europe, but also reasonably cheap.

Best Time to Visit for Budget Travelers

Late autumn, winter and early spring are the best times to visit Europe on a budget, but temperatures can be quite challenging.

Four Things to Do in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria When the Wind Blows

Gran Canaria – a great holiday destination for those that love a bit of sea and sand.

Las Palmas, the island’s capital, has one of the best town beaches in the world so it’s little wonder it attracts the crowds. However, the Canary Islands are also renowned for being a bit windy so what do you do if your day in the sun gets a little too blustery for sitting out?

Well, if you’re in Las Palmas the answer is quite a lot…

1 – Poema del Mar Aquarium

There are plenty of good quality bars and restaurants, of course, but there are also treats for the eyes. And top of that list is the Poema del Mar Aquarium, which is absolutely amazing.

The layout is first class and there’s a lot to see but best of all is the sheer scale of it – the main viewing hall has a proper take-your-breath-away impact.

The clear side of the main tank is nothing short of sensational. It was a true highlight of my week-long stay and I smiled throughout my visit.

Why there are pterodactyls in the first hall, I’ve no idea, but they were fun nonetheless. And who doesn’t love a mudskipper or a crocodile?

    2 – Mercado del Puerto

If you want to eat like a proper local – and check out some fresh produce while you’re about it – then head over to Mercado del Puerto, a short walk north of the aquarium.

The locals sit and chat over a beer while snacking on some great tapas – it’s all very relaxed. You could easily spend a happy hour here look around the stalls in this cast iron monument to food ‘n’ drink while washing down a tasty lunch with a cold beverage. It was a great short stopover.

3- The Elder Museum of Science and Technology

Just around the corner – well, five minutes away – is the Elder Museum of Science and Technology. It contains a whole host of wonderful stuff for big kids of all ages.

A planetarium? Yup. A 3D cinema? Got that, too. Want to green-screen yourself into outer space or view the streets outside as they’d have been through history using a VR headset? Both present and correct.

There were also some interesting medical displays and a recreation of what the building looked like when it was part of the port in the 19th Century.

It’s all a bit mixed and muddled but that was part of the fun for me – not knowing what the next floor would reveal.

The highlight though, was being able to climb into the cockpit of a real jet fighter. I could have played in there all day, re-enacting moments from some of my favourite films, but the queue of children waiting to have a go finally persuaded me to bail out.

4 – Castillo de la Luz

My fourth pick is a castle… who doesn’t love a castle, eh?

Castillo de la Luz may be small but it’s a fun stopover despite its diminutive ramparts. It houses works by local artist, Martín Chirino, who made a mark on the world stage with his sculptures and bronze castings. The castle makes for an interesting backdrop for his work and while it might not be to everyone’s taste it might be just what you’re looking for.

Four Things to Do in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria when the weather’s bad

So that’s it – four alternatives to sitting on a beach, topping up your tan. All are quite different but all are worth checking out if you’re after something to add a little variety to your stopover in Las Palmas.

After all, sitting in the sun all day can tire out even the most ardent sun seeker.

    When to go

Las Palmas has the most favorable weather conditions. The tropical climate provides high temperatures, while the cold Canarian current cools the city and reduces rainfall.

What and where to eat and drink

A huge assortment of fish and seafood dishes can be found on the menu of all restaurants. The alcoholic assortment is Canarian and Spanish wines, banana liqueur and honey rum, local beer brands Dorada and Tropical.

    • The Deliciosa Marta restaurant serves the best of Canarian cuisine.
    • Lovers of Italian gastronomy will appreciate La Pasta Real.

Mediterranean cuisine is based on the traditions of the Guanches (the indigenous people of the island) and the Spaniards. A popular dish is “papas arrugadas” (boiled potatoes in uniform), used as a side dish for fish and meat dishes, and served with a spicy mojo sauce.

What to see, where to go, what to do

    1. Chapel of San Antonio Abad – built in the 17th century on the site of the burnt church of St. Anna. It was here that Columbus prayed as he sailed.
    2. Center for Contemporary Art – a place where collections of three great cultures: African, European and Latin American. The permanent exhibition consists of 2,600 items. Particularly valuable is the collection of a group of artists from the El Paso Association.
    3. Bishop’s Palace – one of the oldest buildings in the city, built in the 16th century.
    4. The port market is a duty-free place. Prices for goods are much cheaper than in the European Union.

Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, a city to be happy

    • 07/09/2017

Sunrise in the capital of the island of Gran Canaria. It smells of the sea, fresh coffee and a pork sandwich that the people of Las Palmas love so much. City sweepers have done their job and clean and wet streets are ready to receive citizens. Gradually, street lights and lighting disappear and the bright light of the sun breaks through the buildings, penetrating into every corner, reflected in shop windows and car windows. The day breaks with force into the lively city, the most dynamic and international of all Canary cities. Its inhabitants lightly move towards their jobs.

College stop… girl… kiss and “until yesterday, daddy will pick you up.” There is time for coffee before entering the office.

The clerk looks towards Porta de la Luz, the engine of the whole city and the whole island. Huge cranes, like the hands of a huge clock, work non-stop. Three sparkling cruise ships are like the springs of this mechanism. Two truckloads of containers pull away from the port and a hundred others await the same fate to spread across the city in various directions. Passengers go ashore and a string of taxis disperse in different directions. The younger ones cross the large avenue on foot and with backpacks on their backs, and for the most part head towards the public or private universities of the island. Not everyone was born in this city, but all of them are already like locals. Some were born on another island or in another country, but some reason brought them here to this island, where you can play various outdoor sports all year round, or just enjoy every day in this fun and energetic capital.

Cafes and hairdressers are trying to cope with an avalanche of customers in the first hours of operation. The orderly rows of newspapers and magazines in the market near Santa Catalina Park are waiting for their buyer. And customers look at the thousands of products lying in baskets and on shelves: fruits, vegetables, fish and meat – all fresh and of the highest quality, arrived from all over the island and the world.

Thousands of people are swarming everywhere. The streets of Las Ramblas, Mesa and Lopez are crowded with people hurrying to the center of activity at the very epicenter of activity at this time – Mayor de Triana. Hundreds of cars are parked outside the large Perez Theatre, which rises at the foot of the Guiniguada Theatre. From here you have a stunning view of the towers of St. Anne’s Cathedral and a series of colonial buildings that served as a model of architecture in most cities in South America. Residents of Las Palmas weave among the thousands of tourists looking at the Houses of Columbus, the Museum of the Canary Islands, and the Center for Contemporary Art of the Atlantic Ocean. The cobbled streets of the old town of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria are teeming.

Primorsky district is hidden in the midst of the bustle of the city. San Cristobal Castle, which has its own rhythm of life, its own authentic bars and restaurants, whose verandas are washed by the clearest ocean… Stopping at one of them, having a beer and delicious fried sardines is a vital necessity and an opportunity to replenish your strength for a further walk. And it’s worth taking a walk towards San Juan Hill, strewn with colorful cozy houses and cheerful locals. Your visit to Las Palmas is not complete without climbing up here and taking some pictures of the city’s panoramic skyline.
On the other side of the city, life is much calmer. The sea breeze caresses the outline of Las Canteras beach – by right the best urban beach in the world! Low tide and three kilometers of coastline serve as an outdoor sports ground for thousands of people. And so day after day … every day! Incredible? It’s just that you’re in the city with the best climate on the planet. On one side of the beach rises the majestic Alfredo Kraus Concert Hall, on the other, novice surfers take their first lessons in conquering the waves, learn how to stand up, where it is better to sit, how to behave on the water and how to choose the very one, your own wave. . Everyone looks towards the sea, where the blue waves merge with the blue clear sky. Without a doubt, another perfect day to surf, but also a great day for a paragliding flight from Giles Beach.

A few kilometers from the center of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, a group of tourists goes to the Viera y Clavijo Botanical Garden. The silence reigning in it is only an imaginary calmness of the inhabitants of this unique ecosystem. Frogs, insects, birds and other animal species live for their own pleasure among hundreds of endemics of the Canary Islands, among the most incredible tree crowns, giant cacti, fleshy shrubs decorated with flowers, framed by bridges and ponds … the sound of the wind between the unique dragon trees suddenly subsides you find yourself in thickets of lianas and lindens. You seem to have entered another world, moist and fresh, filled with the aromas of the forest.

And a completely different landscape opens up in the neighborhood … a couple slowly walks around a huge crater, evenly colored in both green and black tones, reminiscent of the volcanic origin of this island.

Where to stay in the Canary Islands

Apartments in Tenerife, the Most Populated of the Canary Islands

Tenerife is the most extensive of the Canary Islands and the most populated of the archipelago. It is home to one of the two capitals of the Canaries, Santa Cruz de Tenerife. One of Tenerife’s biggest draws is Mount Teide. A World Heritage Site, this volcano is the third tallest in the world when measured from its base on the ocean floor. Visitors also love to come to Tenerife for the Parrot Park reserve, which boasts over 3,000 parrots. Another major draw to Tenerife is the active nightlife; try to pick your guesthouse or apartments in the Canary Islands on Tenerife if the club and bar scene is something that you think you would enjoy.

Visiting Gran Canaria: Perfect for Fans of the Great Outdoors

Gran Canaria is home to one of the most famous natural attractions in all of the Canaries: Maspolomas. These dunes located in the south of the island draw many visitors. You will also find the Roque Nublo and Pico de las Nieves mountains in the center of the island, both of which are worth a visit. Gran Canaria also boasts the second of the two capitals, Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, which is the most populous city of the Canaries. As Gran Canaria is considered to have both the best weather and best beaches of the Canaries, it’s one of the most popular destinations in the archipelago for a beach holiday. Choose a villa with pool on Gran Canaria, and you’ll be living the dream in the sunshine.

    Exploring the Smaller Islands

The Canaries are also home to several small islands and islets, including La Graciosa, Alegranza, Isla de Lobos, Montaña Clara, Roque del Oeste, and Roque del Este. These islands make up a smaller sub-archipelago known as the Chinijo Archipelago. La Graciosa is the only one of these islands with inhabitants, and visiting these islands can be a peaceful treat for travelers who prefer a bit of solitude on their holiday. While you won’t find quite as many choices for accommodations or vacation homes in the Canary Islands here, you will have the opportunity to explore its natural beauty, including four volcanoes, the highest of which is called Las Agujas. Most of the locals make their living with the fishing industry, so be sure to try out some of the local seafood while you’re there.

Which place in Spain is ideal for digital nomads?

Vacation rental platform Airbnb has selected 20 destinations around the world that are ideal for digital nomads.

In Spain, the Canary Islands are ideal for digital nomads.

Among the 20 selected destinations, there is only one Spanish. The rental platform has not only chosen these 20 destinations, but will work with them to make the conditions on site as ideal as possible for remote workers from around the world.

Earlier this year, Airbnb launched the Live and Work Anywhere initiative to identify international destinations where measures are most favorable for foreign (temporary) workers.

With this initiative, the organization also aims to support governments and local tourism promotion organizations. With this, Airbnb hopes to contribute to the resurgence of tourism and the economy after two years of travel restrictions.

In the coming months, Leisure Platform will work with various organizations to create personalized websites and campaigns for their destinations. In doing so, they show the benefits of extended stays, as well as important information about entry requirements and tax laws for foreigners.

Selected destinations range from entire countries to smaller, lesser known cities. They were selected based on their appeal to digital nomads and policy changes in certain cities and regions that want to attract a new type of traveler.

This initiative is based on work during the pandemic. Airbnb then partnered with over 160 governments and promotional agencies to support the return of tourism, including through remote work, to their communities.

“In the two years since the pandemic began, a new world of travel has emerged in which many employees are no longer tied to the office. By partnering with these 20 destinations, we want to make it easier for employees to take advantage of this flexibility and support the return of safe and responsible travel,” said Nathan Blecharczyk, Airbnb co-founder and chief strategy officer.
