About Santa Cruz de la Palma

Santa Cruz de la Palma is the largest city and the capital of the island. It is very much a classic modern holiday resort with high-rise hotels, restaurants, shops and plenty of soft sandy beaches to relax on and take in the unbeatable Canarian sun.

Santa Cruz de La Palma lies right in the midst of the Atlantic Ocean. The main reason why the island enjoys such exceptionally clear sky quality is its location near the Equator but far away from the influence of tropical storms. The scenery is one of its chief natural resources, and demonstrates the island’s environmental health. The astonishing landscapes and indigenous flora and fauna species inspire visitors to explore every corner of this spectacular island. And its well cared for environment makes a perfect backdrop to enjoy outdoor activities, in contact with nature. It is a World Biosphere Reserve, covering a surface area of 706 square kilometers offering plenty of leisure activities. Hiking, mountain bike, diving, paragliding, boat trips, stargaze and much more.On this island, everything is possible.

Santa Cruz de La Palma port

Santa Cruz de La Palma ferry port is situated on the eastern part of the island of La Palma in the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife of the Canary Islands. Santa Cruz de La Palma ferry port is linked with a main highway encircling every part of the island.

Plane from Gran Canaria to Havana, bus is the fastest option to get from Gran Canaria to La Palma. Tickets cost around €588. The trip will take 23 hours 29min.

Gran Canaria – ATLAS yachts for cruises

We leave the marina of San Miguel in a pre-ordered car. We arrive at the airport. There are a lot of delayed flights on the departure board, ours is one of them. Where to hurry, we slowly weigh the luggage, redistribute souvenirs into bags in order to do without additional payment.

Our flight is still delayed on the board, the check-in time is at 14:10, at 13:55 we go to check-in. We are happy to announce that the registration is over. Why is it over if there are 15 more minutes on the scoreboard? Send to the office of the airline, we go to the office with great mind. The office is closed, we return to the registration desk, but the doorman is there, I don’t know anything, the registration is over. Contact the police, what are the reasons? There is no longer an inscription on the board about the flight delay. Yes, and you won’t speak Spanish especially, we don’t know Spanish, even the police don’t really like other languages. It has already been checked, a little that’s all, my don’t understand yours.

Flight accident

Yes, they did. It will be necessary to remember that the inscriptions on the scoreboard still do not say anything. Deciding what to do next? The next flight to Moscow at an affordable price is tomorrow from Gran Canaria. This is not bad, we are probably lucky here, we will visit another island. In addition, in Gran Canaria, in the marina of Las Palmas, there is a yacht with a familiar Russian crew, going around the world with all stops. At the same time, we will “participate” in a round-the-world trip.

It turns out it’s not so bad that we were late, there are so many interesting things to see. Decided, we take tickets from Gran Canaria. The problem is when buying tickets, at the box office they do not accept banknotes of 500 euros, we somehow scrape together the required amount with smaller bills and finally buy tickets.

Hurray!! We are going to Santa Cruz de Tenerife, to the port, on the ferry. It turns out that the “ARMAS” ferry goes directly to Las Palmas, and “FRED OLSEN” In Puerta de las Nieves, a port on the northwest coast of Gran Canaria. I would like to go to FEDE OLSENE. Do you really have to get on ARMAS, so many times you met with FRED OLSEN trimarans at sea and not go inside this ship, in appearance, obviously of alien origin. We go to consult at the box office, it turns out that the ticket price includes free delivery by bus to the port in Las Palmas. This gives us hope. We buy tickets for FRED OLSEN.

ferry Tenerife – Gran Canaria

I wonder if the ferry will rock? When you look at it from the deck of the yacht, there seems to be no pitching. The wave today between Tenerife and Gran Canaria is about one and a half / two meters, opinions about the pitching on the ferry in these conditions are divided, well, we’ll see. Landing has been announced, we are among the first to get inside the trimaran, which gives us the opportunity to grab one of the best places – a table in a cafe.

The table and chairs are screwed tightly to the floor, it seems that the rocking is felt here … We are slowly crawling out of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the ferry lays on its course and rises with a lag to the wave. It shakes quite noticeably, some individuals even move along the aisle with difficulty. We sit, drink beer, it gets dark outside the window. We don’t know which berth the LIDA catamaran is on? Phone call, no one picks up. There is a WiFi zone on the ferry, we’ll quickly go to Skype, good luck .. The Commander of the World Tour has Skype enabled, we exchange greetings, how slow the Internet is on board. We ask for the berth number, and Internet access disappears completely. The ferry with its WiFi access zone went out of access.

And here we are in Las Palmas, we take a taxi to the marina, we really don’t want to drag things. In the marina, we decide to start searching from the guest berths in the north of the marina. The entrance to all the pontoons are closed, it’s dark. Almost every berth has to climb over the fences. In an hour and a half spent recovering the skill of a distant childhood to overcome fences and fences, we finally get to the last berth, a VIP berth for real yachts. There is no hope, but a miracle, the 47th katana we need is on the VIP berth. Our people are respected here. We take a taxi again and drive from one end of the marina to the other.

Let me sleep on the catamaran

On the boat you can see the light in the cabins, they are not sleeping yet. Carefully approach the board, knock, knock-knock-knock. Open for Christ’s sake, let the lost, so hungry that there is nowhere to spend the night. We get on board. They have a cool uniform: dressing gowns, slippers with pompoms. The atmosphere is homely, we ended up in a residential building, which is very cozy and warm, in which everything is there, even a pantry with home canning.

Is an uninvited guest worse than a Tatar? I don’t know about this, but they definitely didn’t expect us, they thought that we had already left the Canary Islands. Of course, the hospitable hosts had certain doubts about our whereabouts, well, they didn’t just ask about the berth number on Skype, didn’t they? But on the other hand, they knew that we should have already left. Over a cup of tea, we repented of our deeds, and talked about being late for the plane. And they told us that they are going to celebrate the New Year in Moscow, it is not very correct to celebrate the New Year without snow.

Life here in the Las Palmas marina is vibrant. Specially selected beauties drive by car to the office of the marina, and go from there to entertainment establishments on foot, without fail, past the VIP berth. Continuous casting. And so all night, at least until 3 am, until we got tired of drinking tea. There are a lot of Russians here. And what people!!! Recently, the whole marina saw off Gennady Ivanovich Grishin, he went across the Atlantic.

A couple of boats is worth the Royal Leopard of Nikolai Litau, it was his crew that tied the tongue of the lock with a shed, and now you can go ashore without a key and extra hassle. The guys are going to go around the world, they have a small problem on the yacht, they are being repaired. Over the side is a yacht with a magnificent radar, just like on large steamships. It turns out she is under arrest here for smuggling and other outrages. In a leisurely friendly conversation, time flies quickly, at three o’clock we go to bed.

Pedro Nou Problem

In the morning, the hospitable hosts took a car from Don Pedro, they ordered it a couple of days ago to travel around the island, but this car came in handy for us to go to the airport. Don Pedro is a local attraction. He has an office at a gas station, he races on local dinghies with a bunch of sails, he has a lot of advantages, as well as a unique whistle, probably from a large steamer, with the roar of which he accompanied Grishin across the Atlantic. Don Pedro invites us to visit his office and gives us Don Pedro – No Problem T-shirts. He has a cool office, a lot of souvenirs pennants and flags from Russia, even Russian vodka.

Working in the canaries: Remote working from the Canary Islands

Working remotely from the Canary Islands

2020 was a year of radical change, the key word being SARS-CoV-2. Life has moved online to a great extent. Many industries and professions have disappeared from the market or had to adapt quickly to the new “rules of the game”. However, the restrictions have brought opportunities. Competence and experience in working remotely have become key skills for companies and employees.

Freedom afforded by flexible working hours online has been limited by travel restrictions. Enforcement of travel restrictions and limitations in the choice of workplace forced remote workers to seek safe and attractive locations. The Canary Islands, and in particular Gran Canaria and Tenerife, have become the ideal solution in this situation.

The two largest of the Canary Islands, Gran Canaria and Tenerife, are at the top of the rankings for the most desirable and attractive places for relocation of companies and remote workers in the world. Let’s see what makes them so popular.

The moderate, tropical climate guarantees summer and spring throughout the year. Both enthusiasts of year-round heat and slightly changeable weather will be delighted.

The Canary Islands have a very diverse landscape in a relatively small area. Within an hour, you can move from hot beach, through sub-tropical forest, to cool mountains or hot volcanic-desert areas. Swimming in the ocean is possible all year round!

No need to bother with winter clothes but sometimes a sweatshirt, longer trousers or a light rain jacket may come in handy.

The location between Africa and Europe makes the Canary Islands an enclave of peace and safety. It is part of Europe, separated from it by a “safety moat”, which in the aftermath of COVID is an additional asset.

The Canary Islands are accessible relatively easily, quickly and cheaply, both by air and sea. Modern airports and harbours offer efficient service at reasonable prices. Transport of belongings or animals does not present a problem. European standards and safety norms are maintained here.

Moving between islands is also relatively easy and affordable. An hour-long flight or up to a 4-hour cruise will move you between the islands.

Transport around the islands is well organised. Buses or car rentals provide comfortable travel over longer distances. Within cities, the best solution is renting a bicycle, moped or scooter.

Regardless of the length of your stay, the Canary Islands offer good quality housing and accommodation. Villas, apartments, houses or ex-hotels converted into apartment buildings offer a high standard of living at a reasonable price.

Of course, the cost of renting or buying a property is mainly influenced by location, proximity to beaches and the ocean, and the number of sunny months per year. However, it is safe to say that prices are certainly not higher than the European average and often much lower.

When looking for a place to live, I suggest you rely on local companies and forget the “great offers” from social media. It is common to be offered properties that do not exist or have several unlicensed brokers, often with no direct contact with the owner. Real estate agencies or certified companies are guaranteed to save time, money and eliminate unpleasant surprises. The cost of service is 3-5% of the value of purchased property or the monthly rental cost.

The main cities of Gran Canaria and Tenerife offer good quality office spaces that provide a full range of facilities. In cities such as Las Palmas, Santa Cruz or Adeje you will often find ready-to-use offices. Facilities for training, business meetings and events are also available at very attractive prices.

Adapting interiors to the needs of the company or employees is not a problem here. The islands have good quality interior designers who will plan company space, take care of selection, purchase and transport of equipment. Keep in mind that immediate availability may be slightly limited, but suppliers such as IKEA, OBI, Leroy Merlin do have branches here.

Coworking centres, especially recently, have gained momentum and significantly improved their offer and services. So far Las Palmas was the clear leader in remote work facilities, but lately there have been more and more attractive offers from Tenerife.

It’s just fun in the Canary Islands. It’s warm, the air is clean, no one is in a hurry, prices are reasonable and people are friendly. Life flows so peacefully that it is easy to lose track of time. For those looking for a quiet and civilised place to live and work, the Canaries are definitely an attractive destination worth considering.

Despite the small area, the islands are so diverse that both those who want to live in the city, near beaches and those looking for secluded nooks in direct contact with nature will find something for themselves. Most of the islands have no problems with access, internet or proximity to schools and shops.

The cost of living certainly does not exceed the average cost of living in Central or Western European countries. If you choose a location away from big cities, beaches or tourist centres, you can live and work comfortably at relatively low, fixed monthly costs.

The Canaries are islands of immigrants. It is a cultural melting pot of people who value peace, fun and living in the moment. The local community is open to newcomers. All initiatives from outside are appreciated and well-received.

If you start learning Spanish, cultivate local customs, take part in events important to the community, the so-called locals will accept you quickly. The desire to learn about the local culture, art, customs, cuisine and language are truly appreciated by the islands’ residents.

In the face of the blockade of mass tourism, which generated most of the islands’ income, a new strategy for the development of the Canaries has been established and implemented. In the next 10 years, the Canary Islands will become the European equivalent of Silicon Valley.

The Spanish government, in agreement with the presidents of the Canary Islands, introduced a development programme and a number of tax incentives for companies wishing to move their business or carry out long-term projects on the islands.

The Canary Islands will be an attractive place for business, especially companies from the broadly understood area of IT, research and development, new technologies and the film industry. They are expected to meet the high demands of business, offer comfortable facilities for work, life, relaxation, regeneration and pursuit of employees’ passion. In addition, they are to attract remote workers and generate new jobs for the local community and newcomers.

Strategic location for business

A stable political situation, advanced infrastructure and high standards of service make the Canary Islands a business-friendly region. The offer of facilities for the operation of companies, various forms of transport, quality of life, attractive tax and subsidy systems are some of the main reasons for the increased interest in relocating business or working from the Canary Islands.

Growing demand for employees with experience in remote work

As the number of companies moving their offices or projects to islands increases, so does the demand for skilled workers. Specialists with experience in remote work within dispersed production teams are highly sought after.  Currently, the fastest and most dynamically developing industries are:

  • IT – software houses, media houses, SEO agencies, mainly looking for programmers and project managers
  • content marketing – creating content for social media and SEO activities
  • film – post-production, editing, sound and special effects
  • animations – 3D animation and model developers, producers and managers of production groups

The number of people interested in remote work from the Canary Islands is steadily increasing. Even in 2020, during the COVID pandemic, these numbers did not decrease. The Canaries is one of the safer and quieter places to live and work remotely in the world.

Remote working in the Canary Islands

At Akepa, we embrace the alternative style, the remote route, and partner with people from all over the world. Here’s Akepa’s Paloma Robinson giving her perspective on remote working from Lanzarote, in the Canary Islands. It’s the fourth in a series of posts from our team on remote work in different parts of the world.

The Canary Islands has become a hub for digital nomads and remote workers post-pandemic, especially for those coming from Europe. And there are very good reasons for this…

With an average of 23º all year round, its epic volcanic beaches, and the “slow” Canarian lifestyle, there’s no wonder that the 8 islands attract attention and lure in those looking for an escape from city life.

Chillaxing on volcanic isle with small dog ‘Leo’. Nice.

That’s not to say working remotely on the islands doesn’t come with its challenges.

For the last 2 years, I’ve been remote working from the beautiful and wild Famara beach in Lanzarote, so it’s safe to say I’ve gathered some inside info on the pros and cons.

Paradise without leaving Europe

Although the Canaries are located just off the West coast of Africa, which lends the islands the ideal year-round climate, the islands are indeed part of Spain and an average two and a half hours’ flight from Madrid. This is great for European remote workers because you can access the island lifestyle yet still be close enough to hop onto a quick flight out when necessary. Not to mention the convenience of the compatible timezone and euro currency.

It’s also worth mentioning that the Canaries cannot be compared in terms of living costs to those tropical destinations such as Bali or Thailand, but the cost of living is surprisingly low for a tourist destination – especially away from the main resorts.

Lanzarote is known for volcanic landscapes and beaches, like that one

Living in a bubble

Life on an island like Lanzarote, where you spend most of your time on the beach, surfing, or on the terrace of a beach bar, can make forgetting about the rest of the world especially easy. It can sometimes feel like living in a bubble or on a constant holiday, which sounds amazing if you’re actually on holiday.

But for those of us working, we must not forget that there is a busy world outside and that we need to be in the loop of the latest news, trends, major events, etc. Finding this balance can sometimes be challenging, which brings me to my next point.

Finding that work-life balance

One of the most obvious difficulties is being able to stay focused on work while being tempted to enjoy the constant sunny blue skies and perfect waves. Gotta dig deep for that discipline!

Some of us have to lock ourselves in a room with the blinds down to avoid FOMO because of the constant holiday mood. The islands are a famous tourist hub and, as such, there are constant parties and social events, no matter the day of the week. You can imagine how the temptations can be a struggle to ignore.

The ultimate sports destination

If you’re a sporty person, Lanzarote is the island for you. It has a perfect environment for both water sports and adrenaline rushes! And being on the Atlantic, it’s a very popular surfing, scuba diving, whale watching, and hang gliding destination. I’ve found that many of the remote workers on this island have come for this exact reason. It also hosts the famous Ironman triathlon yearly.

Sport.

If you’re like me and don’t get all that crazy about the idea of sports, the island is also known for its hikes and unique biodiversity, cave exploration, the many world-class wine bodegas, yoga retreats, and horse riding. A magnificent mix.

All in all, the cons aren’t so bad.

All it takes is some getting used to – after all, the work-life balance can be an issue anywhere. But the constant holiday feel and lifestyle surrounded by nature and fitness makes this life pretty worth it. With the proviso that you have to be disciplined enough to make it work.

The leisurely time in the Canary Islands truly makes up for the time spent working. And if you love your job, you’re in a win-win situation, really! There’s a great island life to be grasped and had.

I always wanted to have a dog, but “Circumstances
formed”
so that on my 8-year-old birthday they gave me a canary Timosha!

have intelligence. Is this one really?

The topic of my research work is “Behavior
kenara in the process of communication”

1. Introduction

Our
the planet cannot be imagined without birds. On Earth, there are
over 10,000 species. Birds are faithful helpers of people
and defenders of forests, fields and orchards. People
always dreamed of flying and, watching birds, created airplanes, helicopters
rockets.

Birds have different abilities. Owls can’t move
eyes, and seagulls calmly drink salt water, hummingbirds are the only bird
flying back. The parrot is famous for its ability to speak. Nightingale in appearance
inconspicuous, but a wonderful singer. But the canary is also a beauty, a bird-singer.
The nightingale does not like to live in captivity and sings at a certain period, and the canary, although
and in a cage, but sings all year long, delighting all family members. “The trills are pouring from
watering cans are the songs of a canary!

How does human interaction affect bird behavior? – this question
I was interested in.

Research object: bird
canary

Research subject : bird behavior

Hypothesis: suppose that
birds are able to respond to our feelings.

birds in the process of communicating with us.

For
implementation of this goal, the following tasks:

§ explore
literature;

§ find out
the ability of the kenar to respond to our attitude towards him;

§ hold
experiments, observations;

§ draw conclusions;

§ create a multimedia presentation on the research topic.

For
the following methods were used to solve the tasks:

search
the necessary information in encyclopedias, the Internet; watching videos,
observation, comparison, generalization.

.

2. Theoretical
part.

Up to
for some time it was believed that birds were stupid. Observations showed that many
birds are smarter than monkeys. Crows and parrots imitate human speech or
copy words. Falcons are good hunters, owls are distinguished by wisdom .. And
pigeons … It has been established that the intelligence of these birds
quite comparable to the intelligence of a 3-year-old child. pigeons
perfectly oriented in space, can work as “postmen”, as well as
able to recognize themselves on video.

Many songbirds are positive
affect the human nervous system, the functioning of the brain and heart, and calm down in the evening
his. It is especially useful for children to communicate with a bird, especially a singing or speaking one. avian
songs are simply necessary for the development of musical ear, speech of the child.

Canary
perfectly remembers and reproduces complex musical phrases and melodies,
can even imitate human speech. Before the revolution in Russia, a cell with
the canary was in many houses. It was believed that bird singing has
beneficial effect and cleanses from evil spirits. Canaries are very unpretentious,
live and sing for 15 years, are able to breed throughout the year, have a cheerful
nature, can be a variety of colors. Canaries don’t need big
cells, these birds create harmony in relationships between family members and
beneficial effect on the human psyche.

2.1. Intelligence of birds.

Well developed head
the brain allows birds to adapt
to a variety of situations. It has been established that in birds the ability to count is developed
better than mammals. And for the extraction of food, the birds show ingenuity and
quick wits.

B
England, the tits that lived near country houses learned to remove aluminum
caps from exposed bottles with
milk or perforate them and
peck cream.

African common
the vulture found an ostrich egg, but the shell
I couldn’t break it with my beak. Then he found a stone and threw it several times with his beak
on the egg until the shell is broken. Sometimes crows and large seagulls grab
solid prey (nuts, shellfish, crabs, etc.), take off, and then drop the prey
to the ground. The reception is repeated until the nut, shell or shell is not
will split. So do some birds of prey with turtles.
(vultures) or with large bones (bearded).

Ordinary
magpie is the only bird that has passed the mirror
test. Gray parrot, jackdaw ]
and New Caledonian raven ]
did not pass this test.

Canaries feel great fresh air, so the miners took the birds in
slaughter. When methane appeared, the canary immediately stopped singing and fell down with
perches. Birds react the same way to carbon monoxide.

The brightest proof
mental abilities of birds is considered to be the training of songbirds to sing, repetition
human speech by parrots, magpies ,
crows. 2.2.

Birdsong

In tongue
birds singing, there are dozens of sound
signals (calamities, warnings, food, courtship, mating,
aggressive, flocking, nesting, etc.). Birds still sing with their beaks
paws, wings and even a tail.

Bird song is divided into notes or syllables.
Most of the songs consist of 1-2 syllables, but sometimes more (13-24 syllables for the Chiffchaff).
More complex parts are called motifs, or knees (like a nightingale) ] .

Many
birds are able to adopt the songs of other species and imitate the voice
human (starlings, parrots, crows, etc.)

A Panamanian
(black-backed) forest falcon able to imitate
to their victims and thus attract them. lyrebirds
they sing phenomenally with the voices of birds, animals, humans, and even the sounds of car alarms
and chainsaws.

2.3. Effects of birdsong on human health.

Scientists have long concluded that
the singing of birds heals many diseases. In ancient times, man noted that this sound
pleasant, and tried to learn to imitate it. This is how the first appeared
musical instruments.

Interesting
that there are many centenarians among lovers of songbirds. It’s all about singing
birds are a signal of joy for our brain.

Recognized as official in Holland
method of healing treatment by bird singing is called ornithotherapy.

Scientists have found that listening
Birdsong for five minutes is as good as a 30-minute walk!

Nightingale song helps with
depression, headaches, weakness and chronic fatigue. The song of the same black
thrush helps to cure the heart, tachycardia and chronic
hypertension. The chirping of the robin has a beneficial effect in the treatment
insomnia. The singing lark helps treat bronchitis, normalizes blood
pressure.

But only the song of the canary heals
almost all of these diseases! It relieves severe headaches, high
pressure, depression, pain in the stomach and intestines.

Canary – the only one of all
songbirds can combine the sounds of other wild songbirds called
“knees” into a unique song. Therefore, her song has a high
therapeutic power for the human body.

3. Interesting facts about
canaries
.

B
end of the 16th century
amazing birds were brought to Russia from Tyrol – canaries, they were bred in
Kaluga province, and then in many provinces. In the 19th century on Nizhny Novgorod
At the fair, canaries were in great demand, because they sang beautifully. BUT
to improve the song of the kenars, talented singers were selected, taught with the help
whistles, pipes, bird organ.

Canaries
attracted many famous figures and famous people. Tsar Nicholas II was a great lover
canary singing. The Russian canary was loved by Glinka, Turgenev, Bunin, Chaliapin
and many other figures of Russian culture.

In Russia, before the revolution, there were real canary centers where they bred
birds that differ in vocal data.

Canaries
were valued not only by origin (Tula, Ivanovo, Moscow,
Pavlovsk), but also according to the features of the song “move”, which were assigned
the names of its creators (“Ryabovsky”, “Shelyadovsky”, “Korablevsky”,
“Goremykinsky”).

Before the revolution were held
canary singing competitions. The medal could be received not only for
performance of the oatmeal melody, but also by teaching the canary to reproduce the melody
Mozart or a popular song.

B
USSR canary contests were popular and took place over several days. Right now in
There are 3 clubs in Moscow, including the Russian Canary Support Fund.
At least three singing competitions are held annually.

Very
red canaries are beautiful, but their voice is not as gentle and high-pitched as that of
Russian canary.

4. Experimental
part.

birds do not have intelligence. Is it really?

Sad when you
they say that the bird does not like being stroked, that it is not a cat and a dog.
Relationships with touchy animals do not seem complete to me.

Experiment No. 1. I
asked himself questions: how does the kenar react to us and is there a difference in his
towards each member of the family? Do birds like tactile contact or tolerate
him? And how does his mood manifest itself in the game with the kenar?

Kenar
allowed to communicate with him not immediately, after a few weeks. I
noted that with other members of the family, the kenar does not always communicate so friendly
like me, but with caution. The reason for this is that I communicate with him
more often and more emotionally.

Tactile
contact with the bird did not occur immediately …… Kenar did not immediately allow himself to be touched and
iron. But I decided, by all means, to establish relations with my new
the other – the bird Timosha. And soon I was conquering the whole family with my “circus”
representations. Without fear, he began to sit on my arm and shoulder, and even
watch TV with me sitting on my head.

I
noticed that the kenar loves very much when they greet him in the morning, turn to him
attention, talk to him affectionately. In the morning when he
sings, does not like to be touched and disturbed, and then begins
beautifully sing,

My game with
kenar lies in the different movements of my hands, to which he famously reacts.
He not only moves around the cage at the commands of my fingers, but with his
moving around the cage shows that he wants me to put him on a swing.

Conclusions:

1.
I realized that tactile
contact with a bird is considered optional, but certainly important. The main thing is
get the most out of interacting with each other
friend. Maybe, of course, the bird itself does not experience so much delight from
stroking the paws, back, head, but what bliss it is when a small, warm bird, bowing its head, rests
you either in the shoulder, or between the bars of the cage, or simply in the substituted
palm, narrowing his eyes – completely trusting you.

2.
Of course, in the process of communication, the bird will
to recognize you, and you will be surprised by her new and new successes and victories. Intelligence
birds will develop, but such a close friendship, like with a cat or a dog, you
do not install.

Experiment No. 2.

heard by the canar, to his song?

My pet Timosha has
unique voice data. He sings very beautifully.

I started noticing that he was starting
sing, not only when you hear the sound of water and the noise of electrical appliances (hair dryer,
kettle, vacuum cleaner), but also various melodies.

I decided by experiment
set to what melody he will sing more beautifully.

I suggested that the canary should not listen
only recordings of voices of other birds, but melodies of different musical genres. results
I was convinced that the overflow of the voice of my kenar is always different.

Output: I made sure that
Kenars skillfully imitate the singing of other birds and reproduce musical melodies.
My kenar is definitely a real virtuoso in this area.

Final
part.

research work, I learned a lot of new interesting things about birds, their
similarities and differences, features of intelligence. But most importantly, he replenished his
knowledge about my pet – kenar, its historical roots, unique singing,
features of his voice and made sure that birdsong has a beneficial effect on
people’s health.

I realized that if a person communicates with birds,
regularly hears their singing, then he is in an environment that brings him
endless joy and charges him with positive.

Thanks to my exercises in contact with the bird, I
made sure that my assumptions are correct (true) – birds are able to respond to
our feelings!

The Danes made a dying canary air quality sensor

Grigory Kopiev

The Danish company Canairi has presented a carbon dioxide level sensor of the same name, made in the form of a canary. If the gas level gets too high, the canary “dies” and shows the person that it’s time to ventilate the room. The developers have published the project on the Kickstarter crowdfunding platform and have already collected all the required amount for the launch.

From the end of the 19th century until the spread of gas sensors, miners in Great Britain and other countries often used a canary cage in the same capacity. Canaries are more sensitive to carbon monoxide and methane, and a much lower concentration in the air is enough for them to die than a person. And since it is a songbird, when the gas is released, it will stop singing and become a signal for the miners that it is necessary to return to the surface.

Danish engineers decided to implement the same principle for monitoring carbon dioxide at home, but in a humane way, by creating a sensor in the form of a canary. It is made in the form of a round stand that needs to be fixed on the wall, and a canary on it. The principle of operation of the sensor is simple: if the concentration of carbon dioxide is kept at the level of 1000 parts per million (ppm) for 10 minutes, the canary turns over and indicates that it is time to ventilate the room. And when the air returns to normal, it returns to its original position and does not turn over for two hours, so as not to distract people.

The company published the project on Kickstarter, asking for about seven thousand dollars, but by the time the note was published, it had received orders for more than 365 thousand. The cost of one “bird” is about 113 dollars. It is expected that the first buyers will start receiving gadgets in October.

Interestingly, canaries as a gas detector for miners have received another modern interpretation. In modern times, “canary evidence” is commonly referred to as a method of disclosing information about cooperation with government agencies that prohibit talking about such cooperation. One of the most striking examples belongs to Apple. For some time, she included in the reports the phrase that the company did not receive a request from the US authorities to disclose user data, which is prohibited from reporting. But then the phrase disappeared from the report, which was taken as confirmation of such a request, although the company did not formally declare this and did not thereby violate the law.

Best Things To Do in Palma

SHARES

The grandeur of a Gothic Cathedral towering above the city, a labyrinth of brightly coloured walls enclosing tiny streets, shaded squares sound-tracked by birdsong and free-flowing fountains, and a plethora of delicious restaurants and nightlife. Welcome to Palma de Mallorca, the capital of the Balearics.

The first time I visited the island, I hadn’t consulted a guide to Palma city, and my only plan was to avoid Magaluf and explore some of the other reasons to visit Mallorca island. Sadly, while doing so, I ended up accidentally avoiding Palma altogether. Having recently returned to spend a week in the city itself, I’ve managed to correct my mistake and discover many of the best things to do in Palma.

In fact, I’d go as far as saying that Palma is an ideal city break, which is quite surprising for an island destination – yet, it ticks all the boxes; gastronomy, history, culture, and more than enough places to eat and drink in style.

Here’s a quick city guide to Palma de Mallorca and what to expect from a long weekend in one of the most underrated cities in Europe.

When to visit and how long to spend in Palma de Mallorca?

Depending on how you wish to spend your time on the island of Mallorca, you could make Palma a two-day visit or a two-week holiday.

Thanks to the regular flight schedules, even in the winter months, coming for a weekend or a long weekend will give you a chance to explore the top things to do in Palma and get a flavour of the island’s capital city. If you opt to use Palma as a base for longer, then it’s an ideal base (especially with a car) to take day trips out to other parts of the island – whether the story-book style inland villages or the breathtaking cove beaches of crystal clear waters.

Deciding when to visit is also relatively easy, as the weather is pretty kind all year round. Unfortunately, I experienced the rainiest week the island had seen in twenty years, yet we still had a great time. Of course, if you are looking to visit the island more for sunbathing and beaches, most guides to Palma de Mallorca will suggest that summer is the best time to visit. However, with higher prices and more crowds, you may want to think again.

The shoulder seasons in Spring and Autumn are always the best, in my opinion, for visiting Europe’s popular coastal destinations, and the same applies to this city guide to Palma de Mallorca. Given the city doesn’t close down outside of summer, it’s also one of the best winter destinations in Europe, albeit not as hot as the Canary Islands.

Where to stay in Palma de Mallorca?

Palma is a much bigger city than most people realised before arriving, which means there is an array of accommodation options for all budgets and group sizes.

For many, an island getaway means booking a white-washed luxury villa, especially if you are travelling with a big group of friends or family members. Mallorca certainly has plenty of delightful options to choose from, although many are more concentrated around the smaller coastal resorts.

There are, however, some good villa options very close to Mallorca hosted by Vida Villas, certainly close enough to take a bus or taxi in and out of the city, or you could opt to stay closer to a beach resort and drive into Palma for day-trips.

On my recent visit, as I was travelling solo, I found the accommodation options to be pretty affordable in late November. I secured private rooms at both the New Art Hostel and Hostal Pinnar for under €30 a night and would happily recommend both. For sea views and a bit more luxury, the larger resorts like Melia or charming El Llorenç Parc de la Mar might be better choices for a romantic city break.

Arriving to Palma by ferry‘Home’ for the night

How to get to Palma de Mallorca?

Palma de Mallorca is the main gateway to the Balearic Islands, and I was pretty shocked at just how large the airport is – this island is certainly no Spanish hidden gem. It is well served by budget and flag-carrying airlines from Europe and will soon start hosting direct flights from the USA. It’s a short drive from the city centre (expect to pay around €20 for a taxi) and is connected by the airport bus.

An alternative, especially if you are coming from another island like Menorca or Ibiza, Barcelona or Valencia, is to do like me and take the ferry.

The island hopping routes are shorter, but to and from the mainland, you can choose from various operators, some with day and some with night sailings. I paid €19 for an overnight sailing with GNV from Valencia and ended up napping on a couch with my sleeping bag. Waking up to the views of Palma Cathedral through the window at blue hour was particularly nice.

Palma Cathedral

Things to do in Palma de Mallorca

One of the biggest joys for me about Spanish cities is just slowly taking in the colourful and historic buildings, the tile work, the plazas, and stopping here and there for a vinho or tapa. There are, however, some impressive attractions in Palma, and it’s well worth adding one or two of these best things to do in Palma de Mallorca into your schedule.

Palma Cathedral – the top thing to do in Palma de Mallorca

If there is one attraction that stands above the rest, both literally and figuratively, it’s Palma Cathedral. This Gothic Roman architectural feat looks good from all angles, whether admiring it from the outside across the still waters or seeing the stain-glass windows bouncing light around the imposing pillars inside.

Royal Palace of La Almudaina

Just next door to the Cathedral is the Royal Palace, also well worth visiting inside for the elaborately decorated carpeted rooms and idyllic setting in the courtyard. Dating back to the 14th century, there is plenty of history to discover within the Palace’s walls.

Castell de Bellver

A short walk from the city centre and promising fantastic views across Palma and the Marina, the uniquely shaped Bellver Castle is a bargain to enter for just a few euros. The rounded interior is rather impressive, and the views from the rooftop are especially special at sunset.

The beautifully round Castle

Es Baluard Contemporary Art Museum

With mainly modern art collections from artists of the Balearic islands and international artists, this modern museum is ideal for a rainy day visit.

Fundació Miró Mallorca

Housing an extensive collection of paintings by the artist Joan Miró, who, while born in Barcelona, made his home later in Palma, the vast display includes sculptures, gardens and some of his most famous works.

Head to the Beach

It wouldn’t be an island city break without a bit of beach time, and the Platja de Can Pere Antoni is right on the city’s doorstep. While there are certainly much more tranquil bays further along the coast, you don’t need to go far to have your fit in the sand and a dip in the Med.

Guide to Palma’s best places to eat

After exploring all the best things to do in Palma, it’s time for Palma’s impressive food scene. From two Michelin Star restaurants down to tiny tapas houses, you are very much spoilt for choice. I did seem to find myself drinking more than eating during my last visit, but this is my guide to Palma de Mallorca’s foodie spots that I really would recommend.

Mercat 1930

A fantastic concept for some food and drinks, Mercat 1930 is essentially a big vintage bar area with tiled floors and an occasional DJ, where food stalls surround the tables in the middle with traditional Spanish and international cuisine. Find a seat, grab a drink from the bar, and then hit up the stands for as many small or large plates as you can manage. The owner and staff will go out of their way to ensure you have a good night that goes far beyond just grabbing a bite to eat in this very social atmosphere.

De Tokio a Lima

By far, the best meal I ate during my time in Palma was at De Tokio a Lima. With soothing music, dipped lighting, and impressive art, this swanky joint serves up a fusion menu of Peruvian and Japanese dishes with a Mediterranean twist.

The ceviche was perfectly acidic and spicy, the Tuna Tartar delightfully dressed with Guava, and the meat was perfectly tender. Couple this with great cocktails, wine pairings and professional but not overbearing service, and you’ve got a fantastic lunch or dinner option as a treat.

De Tokio a LimaCountless bars to sample

Tapalma Tapas Event

If you find yourself in Palma during late November, then be sure to grab yourself some coupons for the Tapalma festival. These little coins can be exchanged for small plates at plenty of restaurants around the city, each highlighting their signature tapas dishes. One of my favourite little spots we ended up going to as part of Tapalma was La Trastienda Mallorca off the main boulevard; great food, service and an excellent shady location under a tree.

Guide to Palma’s best places to drink and party

While a lot of the ‘party’ attention in Mallorca, especially in the UK, is focused around Magaluf, you’ll be pleased to hear the nightlife in the capital city is much more enjoyable and, dare I say it, sophisticated. There are terrace cafes and bars on squares and boulevards, late-night cocktail venues with moody lighting, and plenty of trendy and hip spots to sip a craft brew.

Here is my guide to Palma de Mallorca’s best spots to drink, including my favourite places I found myself boozing during my last visit.

Rooftop views: SKYBAR at Hotel Almudaina

You can never go wrong with a rooftop bar, and the offering of Hotel Almudaina is a great place to enjoy a cocktail or glass of local wine while admiring the Cathedral and the Mediterranean Sea beyond.

Admiring the views from Castell Bellver

Good Vibes: BigFoot

This small and laid-back bar not far from the Cathedral serves up great beers and a mean margarita in a relaxed yet fun atmosphere until the early hours.

Vintage & Tapas: Moltabarra Bar de Tapas

Perhaps my favourite drinking spot in Palma, Moltabarra, is a trendy and vintage joint in the city centre. With a cassette rack to pick from instead of a duke-box, old magazines, records and typewriters decorating the shelves, and a delicious set of Pintxos decorating the bar, it’s a great place for both early and late drinks.

Silent Disco: La Casa de Cookie

Set on a quaint square near the centre, at first glance, this bar looks like a small and narrow spot with a heavy crowd upstairs. But, underground, you’ll find headphones waiting for you to enjoy a night of silent revelry – pick from mainstream pop, techno or indie on the headphones controller and enjoy the night!

Late night: Avenida de Gabriel Roca

Sadly, due to COVID, I didn’t make it to any nightclubs in Palma. However, many of the late-night bars we did end up in were along the waterfront at Avenida de Gabriel Roca. I can’t say any of them were particularly great or memorable, but if you don’t want the night to end, this is where you should be heading!

Day trip ideas from Palma de Mallorca

Mallorca has a lot to offer for every kind of traveller, whether it’s getting out on the water on a boat tour, scuba diving, hitting up some historic villages or heading into the mountains. Here are a few of my favourite day trips from Palma to consider if you stay for more than a weekend.

Memorable: Port de Sóller

One of my absolute favourite places to visit in Mallorca is Port de Sóller, a small bay and village on the island’s west coast. A big part of the magic is taking the vintage wooden train from Palma to reach here. The rickety wooden carriages slowly work their way through the verdant mountains, lemon trees hanging outside the carriage windows before you arrive in the town, where a small tram takes you to the coastline.

Port do SollerTaking the historic train

Beach: Caló del Moro

If you have a car, you are spoilt for choice when it comes to breathtaking bays and beaches around the island. To me, one of the most beautiful was Caló del Moro and the surrounding stretches, where rock formations, caves and cerulean waters dance around still bays perfect for swimming and relaxing. If you are without a car, you can still make it here by changing buses in Campos, although you may want to pick a closer bay to enjoy as a day trip.

Quaint villages: Valldemossa

Around a thirty-minute drive (also possible on the 200 bus) from Palma is the postcard-perfect village of Valldemossa, a popular spot for tourists and an ideal day trip from the city. Typical stone houses line the flower-drenched streets, set against the background of the dramatic Tramuntana Mountains. Explore the streets, soak up the atmosphere, and admire the impressive Monastery, the main attraction in this quaint village.

Hiking: Tramuntana Mountains

For those looking to get a little more active, the surrounding mountains of Valldemossa, the Tramuntana Mountains, which stretch along the whole west coast of the island, have plenty of hiking trails to enjoy for all levels.

Local Flavours: Bodegas of Mallorca

The wine history of Mallorca dates back to the Roman Period. There are many options for wine-tasting tours which depart Palma – whether it is to a historic windmill surrounded by vines or to take part in the traditional harvest around September, it’s an integral part of the island’s culture that you should not miss.

Is Mallorca Worth Visiting? 12 Reasons to Love It (or Not)

Is Mallorca worth visiting? I’m here to spill the tea on the good, the bad, and the ugly.

I’m usually gushing over Spanish destinations because Spain feels like my home away from home, but in this post, you’ll see exactly what I liked and disliked about this island.

If you want to know my final verdict, then yes, I do think Mallorca is a good place to visit, but here’s everything you need to consider before planning a trip.

*I try to keep the information on this blog as updated as possible, but I still recommend consulting the latest prices, opening hours, and other details on each site’s official website.

THE MAIN THING THAT BOTHERED ME ABOUT MALLORCA, SPAIN

TOURISTS, TOURISTS, AND MORE TOURISTS

So here’s the thing – I knew Mallorca was touristy and obviously did not expect to be the only one there. BUT it was a different kind of touristy.

As a huge Spain lover, I think I’ve visited enough places to know that some regions have yet to be discovered while others have become extremely popular. Yet, in most cases, there’s still a reasonable balance between tourists and locals.

For example, even in a bustling city like Madrid, you don’t have to make a lot of effort to experience its authentic side, and you definitely don’t feel like only tourists are around you.

I’m not saying that Mallorca’s authentic side is non-existent, but I feel like the touristy vibe can easily overshadow it, and I wish they were more balanced because that’s a big deal for a traveler like me.

IS MALLORCA WORTH VISITING? ALL THE THINGS TO LOVE ABOUT IT

YOU CAN FIND QUIET EVEN IN TOURISTY PLACES

Considering everything I’ve written about tourists in Mallorca, it wasn’t difficult at all to find the quiet areas of the island’s most visited cities and towns. The minute you stray from the streets where all the shops and restaurants are, you see fewer and fewer people.

If you think about it, that’s kind of sad, but I can’t say I didn’t enjoy having some streets and alleys all to myself.

PalmaValldemossa

THE WEATHER

What is Mallorca like in terms of temperatures? As a sun-drenched Mediterranean island (though I’ve encountered a couple of cloudy mornings), Mallorca offers fantastic weather almost all year long.

Take into consideration that it can get extremely hot and humid in July and August (27°C-33°C / 80.6°F-91.4°F by day) and not warm enough to take a dip in the winter months (14°C-17°C / 57.2°F-62.6°F by day), which still leaves you with more than enough time to visit Mallorca and enjoy idyllic weather.

The summer months are also when hotel prices can be unbelievably expensive, so spring and fall can be good choices for your Mallorca trip.

BEAUTIFUL BEACHES

Being one of the best beach destinations in Europe, it’s not surprising that Mallorca boasts a dreamy coastline. With dozens of heavenly beaches with crystal-clear waters, this island is a great place to unwind and soak up some sun.

It’s good to know that even though Mallorca is touristy, it doesn’t necessarily mean that every single beach is overcrowded with people.

In fact, when I visited popular places like the resort town of Port de Pollença and Formentor Beach, I was pleasantly surprised by their tranquility.

It’s also important to know that accessibility varies from beach to beach. Some can be reached by bus, some by car, and others require 15-30 minutes of walking from the nearest road/parking lot (including passing through steep, unpaved paths).

Formentor BeachPort de Pollença

ENCHANTING TOWNS

Strolling through the cobbled streets of historical European towns is one of the greatest joys in (my) life, and Mallorca is home to quite a few visit-worthy ones.

From Valldemossa to Alcudia to Pollença, there are more than enough picturesque places that are an absolute delight to explore.

If you love unique experiences, you should also know that you can reach the town of Soller with a vintage train dating back to the early 20th century. I thought it was going to be an overrated attraction, but I highly recommend it.

ValldemossaWhy visit Mallorca – for the beautiful towns

JAW-DROPPING NATURAL LANDSCAPES

One of the best reasons to visit Mallorca is that you don’t only get to see dreamy shades of blue (courtesy of the Mediterranean) but also miles and miles of green.

So many roads offer views of fields, almond trees, orange groves, and even vineyards, though one of the most scenic parts of the island is the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

It’s home to some of the towns I’ve mentioned and countless hiking trails, viewpoints, hidden coves, and unique manmade landmarks.

Other natural areas you can explore are the coastal Mondrago Natural Park and Sa Dragonera Natural Park (located on a nearby uninhabited island). If you’re an avid nature lover, these parts of Mallorca will surprise you.

Is Mallorca a good holiday destination for nature lovers? Yes, yes, yes!

PALMA IS SUCH A LOVELY CITY

Is Palma de Mallorca worth visiting? I’m pretty sure that most people don’t travel to Mallorca just to spend a day or two in the capital, Palma, but don’t underestimate this city.

I thought it was just going to be a base point from where I would take day trips, but I discovered an intriguing city with an incredible old town (and other fascinating neighborhoods), lots of historical landmarks, a great culinary scene, photogenic architecture, and so much more.

So if you’re only a short flight away and a quick Spanish weekend break is all you’re looking for, consider spending it in Palma de Mallorca.

Is Palma de Mallorca worth visiting? Definitely!

RICH HISTORY

When Mallorca is often perceived solely as a beach destination, it’s easy to forget that its history is no less than fascinating.

From prehistory and Roman times to the Arab rule and the conquest of the island by King Jaume I of Aragon (who became the King of Majorca) in the 13th century, each era had its impact on Mallorca and left landmarks you can still visit today.

These include remains of prehistoric and Roman settlements, Moorish gardens, medieval walls, monasteries, cathedrals, and palaces. If you’re a history lover, you’re in for a treat.

Palma Cathedral

MUST-SEE MANMADE AND NATURAL LANDMARKS

Diving a little deeper into all the landmarks you can see in Mallorca, anyone can find at least one point of interest to enjoy.

Some of the highlights of this island are:

  • Remains of villages from the Bronze Age like the Talaiots de Son Fornés
  • Ruins of the Roman city of Pollentia
  • Medieval walls of Alcudia
  • Palma Cathedral, Royal Palace of La Almudaina, and Bellver Castle
  • Capdepera Castle
  • Royal Carthusian Monastery of Valldemossa

If you’re more of a natural landmark kind of traveler, head to the infamous caves of Cuevas del Drach and Cuevas dels Hams, visit Cap de Formentor (Mallorca’s northernmost point), or hike in the Torrent de Pareis canyon.

Royal Palace of La Almudaina

THE CULTURE

If you’re a culture buff, Mallorca is going to win you over.

Apart from the capital city of Palma, which is home to many museums and art galleries (including the Es Baluard museum of modern art and the Joan Miró Foundation), you’ll find quite a few intriguing places to visit.

From the Frédéric Chopin and George Sand Museum in Valldemossa, where the gifted Polish composer spent a very productive time on the island, to La Granja d’Esporles, a museum dedicated to Mallorca’s history and traditions (housed in a 17th-century mansion), Mallorca will surprise you.

You can also visit the weekly markets taking place in plenty of towns across the island, indulge in Mallorquin food (if you love seafood, vegetables, and baked goods, you won’t be disappointed), attend some festivals, and the list goes on.

DIVERSE AND UNIQUE ACTIVITIES

I hope that by now, you understand that there’s a lot more to do in Mallorca than just unwind at the beach. Other than all the activities and places I’ve mentioned so far, this island has a few more surprises up its sleeve.

Outdoors enthusiasts can go hiking, cycling, scuba diving, kayaking, and canyoning; wine lovers can tour central Mallorca’s vineyards; others can take a boat tour to watch dolphins in the wild. Pretty exciting, right?

YOU CAN EXPLORE IT BY CAR OR PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

Is Mallorca a good place to visit without a car? There’s no doubt that taking a road trip would be an ideal way to discover Mallorca’s hidden gems, conveniently get to every nook and cranny of the island, and have the most flexibility.

That said, you can also plan a Mallorca itinerary that doesn’t require renting a car yet still includes some of the most beautiful places on the island.

Reachable by bus are picture-perfect spots like Mirador Es Colomer (the most iconic viewpoint in Mallorca), Jardines de Alfabia, and Alcudia, and that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

This place is a must visit. Palm Jumeirah is the smallest of the three palm tree islands. The island is a trunk and 16 leaves. And the crescent-shaped breakwater completes all this splendor. nine0003

Good location

March 2021 • For two

We rested at the hotel at the beginning of the trunk of the Palm Jumeirah. Very convenient location – the hotel has its own beach, across the road is the Makhell Mall shopping center with shops, a supermarket and a monorail stop (a magnetic road without a driver) that goes to the mainland and to Atlantis. There is also a jogging track 2600 m long. We walked 2 km to the observation deck of the point. And when we went on a sightseeing tour, it turned out that we had already seen a lot of things near us) unfortunately we could not look at the palm tree from a height, since the roof top observation deck in the shopping center and the Dubai eye are still closed. nine0003

Palm Jumeirah

dec. 2019

In the United Arab Emirates, on the coast of the Persian Gulf near the coast of Dubai, three artificial palm islands, stylized as a palm tree, were built. The first and most compact is Palma Doumeira. The second and third are Palmam Jabal Ali and Deira. This artificial island was built from stones and sand, without the use of metal and concrete. nine0068 The Palm Jumeirah is the largest artificial island in the world. With its outlines, it repeats a palm tree (trunk and 16 symmetrically arranged leaves), which is surrounded by a crescent-shaped breakwater to protect it from waves.
The “trunk” is the main part of the Palm Jumeirah. There are multi-storey buildings, shops, clubs, cafes, restaurants, beaches and all the rest for a comfortable life of the institution. A car tunnel and a bridge built under water lead to the crescent. A monorail runs through the Palm Jumeirah’s Trunk. nine0068 “Crown” consists of 16 palm branches. In the center of each of which there is a highway, along which there are two rows of private villas. Tourists are not allowed to visit the villas. In general, about 2 thousand villas were built on the island, and each has its own name.
The Crescent serves as a breakwater that protects the interior of the Palm Jumeirah from destruction. The territory of the “Crescent” is occupied by hotels, clubs and beaches.
Palm Jumeirah is connected to the mainland by a 300-meter bridge, and an underwater tunnel connects it to the breakwater. nine0003

Transit through Palma

March 2020

Palma didn’t leave much impression, apparently, it’s more interesting to look at it from a height, and not from a bus window, but it’s good for a “tick” and a bus ride.

Of course, it is much more convenient to go to the palm tree by car, but we traveled by public transport.

March 2020

There is an interchange from the bus or tram to the monorail. The last station is the Atlantis hotel. In the evening we walked with the child in the park at the 1st station, a very cool and well-groomed park with many playgrounds, everything seems to be a puppet, and it is amazing when you realize that all this is built on a man-made island, although in the evening it’s not even clear. I advise you to go during daylight hours to Atlantis. but now the construction around is very active, for freaky photos you need to look for a place

Nothing special

dec. 2019 • For two

To get to Jumeirah palm you need to take a monorail and it will bring you to the very edge of the island. Ordinary Cards that are valid in Dubai are not valid here. You need to buy a separate ticket, which you will then pick up at the exit. A round-trip ticket with an exit costs 30 dirhams per person. If you just want to ride without leaving, then 15, but there is no point in this. On the island itself there is the Atlantis hotel and a small promenade. There is nothing else to see there. I don’t see much point in visiting this place, but if you need it for show, then of course you should go and take a picture against the backdrop of the sea and the hotel))

Visit Palma attractions for free

Home >> About Mallorca >> Palma attractions that you can visit for free

and places that you need and want to visit, but the entrance to which is often paid. Nevertheless, almost everywhere there are days when you can enjoy all this beauty absolutely free of charge. nine0003

Of course, you will have to carefully plan your holiday and adjust to the schedule of most attractions. But the budget traveler will be able to see these famous Mallorcan spots and still save their budget.

  1. Castillo de San Carlos in Palma.

You simply must visit this place. Due to its location (it is located far from the center of Palma), this castle-museum is little known. This is a fortification that has been protecting the bay of Porto Pi for a long time. At the moment, Castillo de San Carlos is located on the territory of the naval base of Portopi. nine0003

Now this castle houses the military history museum of the city of Palma with a huge collection of different types of weapons from different countries and centuries. Climbing to the top of the castle you will have a beautiful view of the sea, the port and the city of Palma. On the territory there is a cafe, parking and bathrooms. If you are traveling with children, you can take food for the donkeys that live on the territory of the museum.

You can visit the Military Museum of Palma from Tuesday to Sunday from 10:00 to 14:00.

2. Bellver Castle. nine0003

Check out the history and features of this castle in our separate article on Bellver Castle. Known to all tourists for its uniqueness and beautiful views, Bellver Castle charges an entrance fee on ordinary days. You can get there for free on Sunday from 10:00 to 15:00.

3. Marivent Gardens.

These royal gardens were opened to the public only a few years ago. They are located near the city of Palma and surround the royal residence with their trees and flower beds. They can be visited for free while the royal family is not in the palace. In this case, from Monday to Sunday they are open from 9:00 to 16:30 (October to April 30) and 9:00 to 20:00 (May 1 to September 30).

4. City Council of Palma.

Don’t let this idea of visiting the City Hall of Palma bore you, as this excursion to the City Hall will destroy all your ideas about this institution. The decoration of the City Council is so rich and varied that you will want to return there again. You can sign up for a tour of the City Hall of Palma de Mallorca by e-mail [email protected]. They do it on Sundays. nine0003

During the pandemic, there may be changes in the schedule, so check in advance. Before the pandemic, visiting the City Hall of Palma was possible in Catalan, Spanish and English. But even if you do not understand any of them, still do not miss the opportunity to visit there.

5. Almudaina Palace.

We have a separate article about this place, which we recommend you to read (link to the article Almudaina Palace). It was erected on the site of an old Arab mosque. Half of this palace is still in operation and serves the royal family for negotiations. The second part of the palace is open to the public. Free entry for EU residents and citizens is possible every Wednesday and Thursday from 15:00 to 18:00 (October to March) and from 17:00 to 20:00 (April to September). nine0003

6. Joan Miro Museum.

Some of Joan Miro’s works are displayed in the Marivent Gardens. Many paintings and sculptures also decorate the homes of wealthy people. You can see a collection of his works at the Fundacio Miro Mallorca Museum on Saturdays from 15:00 to 18:00, on the first Sunday of the month from 10:00 to 15:00, and also on March 1, May 18, June 24, December 19 and 31.

The last fireworks that marked the beginning of the New Year have died down, and those who celebrated this in Tenerife are leaving the island. At this time, it is very quiet and calm here – warm sunshine allows you not only to look at the ocean, but also to get a very beautiful winter tan, because the middle of winter in Tenerife is by no means frost and snow. Air temperature

January cold in Tenerife is air warmed up to +20 C…+21 C and two thirds of the month of sunny days. Yes, this is what winter looks like here. Of course, along with sunny days, there are also cloudy days, but they especially spoil the impressions of the rest. The level of precipitation is almost the same as in December – by local standards it is a rainy month. At night, the thermometer drops to 10 C, although the average level is +13 C.

    Weather map for January

    Water temperature

The water in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean surrounding Tenerife has cooled down to +19 C and is almost equal to the air in this indicator. Evening walks in such weather will be pleasant if you have some warm clothes in your luggage, for example, a light jacket.

    Tenerife in January

    How to pass the time?

Most of the tourists vacationing in Tenerife in January come here in order to have a quiet time, admiring the beauty of the ocean and local nature. Part of the time can be spent on amazing beaches, some of which are covered with black sand. However, this can only be done at noon, when the sun rises as high as possible above the horizon. How to spend the rest of the time?

    • Go to see local sights, among which the first place is occupied by the Teide volcano. It not only divides the island into two weather zones, but is also of great importance in the culture and history of the island.
    • To look at the island from a bird’s eye view – for this you need to gather all your courage “into the fist” and go flying on a steam plane.
    • Visit Loro Parque with its magnificent collection of wildlife.

Tour in January – the cost of the tour in Tenerife

The “low” part of the tourist season in January in Tenerife also determines the prices, which become lower here, but not so much as to make a holiday on this pearl of the Canary Islands “budget”. A trip for two for a week will cost $ 2,000, which is significantly lower than in summer, but still not so cheap. In this case, the price includes airfare and accommodation in a three-star hotel.

It will be interesting: the weather in Tenerife at any time of the year.

Teide Volcano Facts: Spain’s highest peak 🥇

    • 1 Altitude
    • 2 Location and how to climb it
    • 3 Flora and fauna of the place

If you are going to visit Tenerife you cannot miss the tour to the Teide volcano. This volcano is the third largest in the world (surpassed only by two Hawaiian volcanoes) and is one of the biggest Spanish tourist attractions. Here we show you some Teide volcano facts, one of the most important natural monuments in Spain. 🤩

The Teide National Park was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007. It is one of the essential visits if you are traveling to the island of Tenerife. Lace up your boots, we are going to enter fully into the Teide.

    Altitude

We start with the data on the Teide, it has a height of 3718 meters above sea level. It is the highest peak in the entire Atlantic Ocean. In addition, its height makes the island of Tenerife the tenth highest island in the world.

Because of its altitude it is best to climb mount Teide by cable car. The cable cars ascend to about 3555 or 3560 meters approximately. Once you reach this point you can make the rest of the ascent by foot. 👣

Location and how to climb it

El Teide is on the island of Tenerife, in the archipelago of the Canary Islands. It is comprised within the Teide-Pico Viejo volcanic complex. As the natural park was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site, it is a protected area. You can see the sunset and the stars from the Teide very clearly, thanks to its privileged location.

That the space is protected means that visits to this natural monument are limited. To climb it you will have to have an access permit to Teide. This permit can be purchased through the official website. If you travel with an organized tour you don’t have to worry, they take care of everything.

Flora and fauna of the place

The most characteristic animal of Teide is the mouflon. It also highlights the eared bat and the brown hedgehog. Although the most normal thing will be that you will be surrounded by invertebrates and small reptiles. 🦎

Due to their extremely high altitude only a few species survive the location and climate. It is common to see hardy plants such as thistles, although this just happens to be in danger of extinction as it forms part of the diet of the mouflon. The most unique species is the Teide violet.

Now that you know all these Teide volcano facts… Do you feel like visiting it? Or rather, do you dare to climb it? 😉

A trip to Mount Teide is a real adventure that you will never forget. Neither photographs nor beautiful lines can convey even a small part of what you have to see and feel – really the eighth wonder of the world. A masterpiece created by the best artist and nature sculptor. After all, it was not for nothing that the great poet, Vladimir Semyonovich Vysotsky, said: “There can only be mountains better than mountains.” By the way, Vysotsky also set foot on the Canary land, in the company of the charming Marina Vladi.

We will start our journey by taking the starting point from your hotel or apartment. We will take one of the two southern roads leading to the volcano and our first stop will be in the small town of Vilaflor, which is the highest village in Spain, located at an altitude of 1460 meters above sea level. Have you heard of such a natural phenomenon as horizontal rains? It is in the city of Vilaflor that it is not uncommon for vacationers to experience this natural phenomenon for themselves! And yet, it was here that the first canonized saint of the Canary Islands was born, whose monument meets us at the entrance.

Most of the way we will go along the mountain serpentine, but please don’t be scared, the only reason why you might feel uncomfortable is the “heady” effect of the mountain air, but believe me, it’s a pleasant feeling to absorb oxygen cocktails, which include impeccable ecological purity of the island, oceanic air, almost complete absence of production, pine forests…. STOP! Oh yes, we not only have beaches and bars here, but also pines and mushrooms and rabbits and much more that you do not expect to see in the Paradise Islands! But let’s talk about everything in order – on the way to our “grandfather” Teide, you will find a really large number of pine forests. The Canarian pine has unique properties, for which the locals practically pray for it, I will tell you about this during our trip. In the meantime, it’s time to get acquainted with the oldest and largest pine of the Canarian archipelago Pino Gordo, its dimensions are so large that only eight people can grasp it, holding hands. It is here that we will make a financial wish, which, thanks to the magical power of the island, will surely come true! How to do this procedure correctly, I will definitely show you!

Recharged with positive emotions, we will continue this wonderful excursion and very soon we will find ourselves on the territory of the National Park “Las Cañadas del Teide”, which received its status back in 1954. The largest park of the Canary archipelago, with a great variety of landscapes and landscapes, from which the camera trigger does not stop working, not for a second!

And then an absolute emotional extravaganza awaits you, because through a natural gap, we will drive by car directly into the CRATER of the volcano, which has a diameter of 17 kilometers, and it is here that YOU can see the brightest and most inspiring sights of volcanic origin and you can not only see them , but also to take the most incredible photos while walking through these truly magical places. It is here that the peaks of the Teide volcano and its “brothers” will open in all their glory! It is appropriate to say that the height of the peak of the Teide volcano is 3718 meters above sea level, which allows it to be the highest point not only in the Canary archipelago, but also in all of Spain and the entire Atlantic Ocean. It is here that such amazing places await us, such as the rocks of beauty – Roques de Garcia, which flaunted on a banknote of 1000 pesetas. Here, beautiful ladies will be able to try on the Queen’s shoe, just keep in mind its size is completely non-standard! Improve your health, thanks to the healing stone “frog” – please! Seeing a petrified bear rearing up is no problem. Strengthening your family relationships on the ladder of Love is easy. In general, in such unique places, any of your desires can come true!

I think it’s time to catch my breath from the overwhelming impressions and once again enjoy the Greatness of this place! That is why we will make a coffee break on the territory of the only residential building – a municipal hotel, in the crater of a volcano, where we will observe magnificent panoramas.

So, are you ready to move on and be amazed? Then let’s go! Just don’t forget to put on your spacesuits, because at the next stop you will have a unique opportunity to feel like a real astronaut and perpetuate your silhouette on film in zero gravity! This action will take place at a stop called Lunar landscapes – a platform that fascinates everyone and everyone, because it is not for nothing that this place has become the choice of many Hollywood directors as the natural scenery of science fiction films. It is absolutely appropriate and solemn to enjoy a glass of cool sparkling wine here. As the Spaniards say, salute!

After devoting maximum attention to the main volcano of the island, we will continue our journey further, leaving the national park and moving along one of the two northern roads towards the amazing Forest of Hope, where you will again have to be surprised and admire the diversity of the natural world of Tenerife! Fabulous eucalyptus forests with unimaginably bright aromas that have taken root in this area due to the large amount of moisture. There are many paths and hiking trails where you will definitely want to take a walk. And that’s not all, we will get as close as possible to the observatory, which looks like a foothold of alien worlds and fits perfectly into this already cosmic landscape. And from here you can perfectly see the volcano, which is gradually shrouded in clouds, as if covered with a blanket in anticipation of the night.

In addition to everything, we will stop at the La Tarta viewpoint, which got its name from its bizarre shape and appearance due to constant wind erosion.

The New Humanitarian | How better migration management is reducing xenophobia in the Canary Islands

The number of asylum seekers and migrants crossing the treacherous Atlantic maritime route to the Spanish Canary Islands is on track to be the highest annually since 2006. But improvements to the reception system have for the most part averted the sense of crisis and the rise in xenophobia and hate crimes that engulfed the archipelago last year.

The migration season to the Canary Islands is now in full swing, and around 16,800 people – mainly from Morocco, Mali, Senegal, and other West African countries – have already made the journey in 2021: a more than 44 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

Over 880 people are known to have died attempting the crossing so far this year – surpassing the total for all of 2020 – and more than 1,000 others have potentially perished in so-called invisible shipwrecks.

After the route had been mostly dormant since 2006, more than 23,000 asylum seekers and migrants reached the Canary Islands by boat in 2020 – driven by the economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, pre-existing environmental crises, and an EU-backed crackdown on migration along Morocco’s northern coast. Movement on the route peaked in October and November last year, with nearly 13,500 people arriving in those two months alone.

This year, arrival numbers are higher overall. But although they’ve been steadily increasing since August – when calmer weather begins to make the crossing less dangerous, through the end of the year – there hasn’t yet been the same sudden spike that occurred in 2020.

The fact that the arrivals have been more spread out has made the situation easier to manage, according to Txema Santana, who works as an immigration adviser to Esther González, vice president of the Canary Islands’ regional government. But the big difference, he said, is the change in approach by Spanish officials. “The response of the Government of Spain has been radically different from last year,” Santana told The New Humanitarian.

Last year’s increase caught officials unprepared. Reception facilities had been dismantled when migration ebbed after 2006. And as arrivals rose in 2020, the authorities quickly ran out of room to house people. At the same time, the Spanish government prevented asylum seekers and migrants from travelling to the mainland, leading to a rapid pile-up.

“The overcrowding generated problems of coexistence,” Juan Carlos Lorenzo, Canary Islands coordinator for the Spanish Commission for Refugee Aid (CEAR), an NGO, told The New Humanitarian.

Populist politicians and sensationalist media coverage stoked a sense of crisis, leading to an increase in hostile attitudes towards asylum seekers and migrants, and even physical attacks, Lorenzo explained.

Tensions subsided as arrivals declined during the first months of 2021. New reception facilities with more capacity opened in March, and a court ruling in April forced the government to allow some asylum seekers to travel to the mainland.

Now, people are periodically being transferred to the Spanish mainland to prevent overcrowding, the local government has implemented better health protocols to manage arrivals and mitigate the threat of COVID-19, and the economy has started to recover – all of which has helped improve the situation, according to both Santana and Lorenzo.

    Reception problems

Human rights organisations, such as CEAR and Amnesty International, say poor management of migration reception contributed to last year’s rise in racist attitudes and even to hate crimes towards asylum seekers and migrants. The Spanish government’s new approach to managing arrivals appears to be reducing tensions, but migrant rights advocates warn that underlying issues still exist.

“Objectifying people by subjecting them to a poor and painful reception sparks xenophobia. Efficient management of the emergency reception is essential,” said Santana, who was a journalist and activist before working for the government.

Under normal circumstances, when asylum seekers and migrants arrive in the Canary Islands, they can be detained in closed facilities for a maximum of 72 hours before being sent to reception centres.

But as arrivals last summer began to outpace the capacity to house people, hundreds – and then thousands – were detained in a makeshift camp in a port on the island of Gran Canaria, sometimes for weeks.

Cramped, unsanitary living conditions, a lack of freedom of movement, and the inability to access legal support or information about asylum drew criticism from international human rights organisations, and a Spanish ombudsman called for the camp to be closed due to potential human rights violations.

Videos and photos of the crowded camp provided fodder for right-wing politicians and people on social media to push a sensational narrative that the islands were facing an “invasion”.

At the end of 2020 – as a temporary fix until new, quickly built camps could open in March this year – authorities began moving asylum seekers and migrants into some of the many hotels left empty due to the pandemic’s battering of the islands’ vital tourism sector.

It didn’t take long for discontent to bubble up among some residents who were frustrated that the government was paying to house asylum seekers and migrants in hotels while locals suffered from the COVID-related economic downturn.

Some residents began organising anti-migrant protests while, in certain areas of the islands, others began forming anti-migrant vigilante groups through WhatsApp and threatening violence. A video of a man driving around Gran Canaria threatening asylum seekers and migrants with a machete underscored the severity of the situation.

    Institutional racism?

Even though the hostility has subsided this year, it hasn’t entirely gone away, according to 10 Moroccan and West African asylum seekers and migrants who The New Humanitarian spoke to between April and July on Gran Canaria and Tenerife.

A 19-year-old from Morocco recalled an incident one afternoon in April when a car came screeching to a halt next to him. The men inside began yelling racist slurs at him and his friends in Spanish. “I was very angry,” he said.  “I thought, ‘Why? I am Moroccan, and you are Canarian; it doesn’t matter’.”

The young man, who said he had arrived in the Canary Islands in January hoping to find work to support the education of his three younger siblings, asked not to be named because the manager of the reception facility where he was staying had threatened to kick asylum seekers and migrants out if they talked to the media.

Eight others all said they had either personally experienced xenophobia or racism – in the form of verbal abuse and physical assaults – or they knew someone who had. One said the situation was improving, while the other seven were relatively new arrivals and couldn’t comment on how things had changed.

A 41-year-old Nigerian man who asked to be called Innocent Ujah Idibia – the name of a famous Nigerian musician – said the sense of not being welcome was still palpable.

He left Nigeria after the army violently cracked down on protests against police brutality in October 2020 and arrived in the Canary Islands in January 2021. When The New Humanitarian spoke to him in July, he had been sleeping in a makeshift encampment on a beach on the island of Tenerife for four months. “[Locals] are segregating from this person who is not their fellow white. That is the nature I am seeing,” he said.

While actions and attacks by private citizens have garnered much of the attention, academics and activists say more focus should be paid to institutional racism, which, they argue, is baked into Spanish migration policies; in particular to the government’s response to the increased arrivals to the Canary Islands in 2020.

As evidence, the academics and activists point to: poor living conditions in the quickly constructed reception centres; the efforts last year to keep migrants from travelling to the mainland; the fact that more than 4,000 Malians escaping conflict in their country were blocked from applying from asylum for almost a year; and the general exclusion of migrants from being able to access social services, including medical care.

“There are problems at the institutional level because the government blocks the possibility of leading a normal life and also continuing with your trip. They just want to deport [the migrants],” said Antonella Aliotti, a municipal council member on the island of Tenerife from Podemos, a junior partner in Spain’s Socialist-led coalition government.

The Spanish interior ministry, which is responsible for migration policy, did not respond to The New Humanitarian’s requests for comments on the allegations of institutional racism in the Canary Islands.

    Problems on other islands

For now, the reception system on Gran Canaria, where most of last year’s events took place, seems to be accommodating the number of people arriving without major issues, and tensions remain low.

However, other Canary Islands – such as Lanzarote, El Hierro, and Fuerteventura – are seeing an uptick in arrivals this year and don’t have the infrastructure to receive them.

Conditions there are reportedly reminiscent of the situation on Gran Canaria last year, with people sometimes held in crowded, makeshift camps in ports and industrial warehouses for longer than 72 hours, and with limited access to water, sanitation, and legal services.

Lorenzo, from CEAR, told The New Humanitarian there had also been more flare-ups of xenophobia and hate speech on these islands, but he added that the government was working to build new centres and improve procedures on them as well.

Adnan Abdaime, secretary of the Moroccan Sand Association in the Canary Islands, a community group representing Moroccans on the islands, told The New Humanitarian he was worried that the events of the past two years have stirred up deeper issues.

“Before all this, there were no groups who hit immigrants or made songs that incited hatred and violence [against asylum seekers and migrants]. But there have been a lot of these practices throughout this year,” Abdaime said. “I believe that xenophobic speech has changed the islands a lot.”

Spain’s maritime rescue service says 193 people of sub-Saharan origin arrived on the Canary Islands within 14 hours. At least one boat reportedly made it ashore without help.

The four groups of rescued migrants consisted of 161 men, 24 women and 8 minors, including a baby, according to Salvamento Marítimo, Spain’s maritime rescue service. They were on board three rubber dinghies and a wooden boat, local news site Canarias7 reported.

According to Salvamento Maritimo, or Sasemar, they arrived between Tuesday (September 20) evening and Wednesday morning on the islands of Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and Gran Canaria. One of the vessels reportedly made it ashore without help.

According to Canarias7, the first boat carried 48 migrants and arrived shortly after 7 pm on Tuesday without help at La Senora beach in the south of Fuerteventura. Of those people of sub-Saharan origin, 34 were men, 12 were women and two were minors, including a baby.

The second vessel had 53 men and 5 women of sub-Saharan origin on board. The 58 people were disembarked shortly after the first one, at 7:30 pm, by a Sasemar vessel in Puerto del Rosario, the capital of Fuerteventura. According to Canarias7, the Sasemar vessel helped them shortly after 5 pm when the migrants were sailing in a rubber dinghy to the east of Fuerteventura.

The third vessel, a rubber dinghy, carried 58 sub-Saharan migrants — 46 men, six women and six minors — when a Sasemar plane spotted it about 67 kilometers east of Lanzarote. The migrants were disembarked at 01:15 am Wednesday morning in Arrecife, the capital of Lanzarote.

The fourth group of migrants, consisting of 29 sub-Saharan people (28 men and one woman), arrived in Gran Canaria at 9:00 am on Wednesday when another Sasemar vessel disembarked them at the Arguineguín pier. According to Canarias7, they were rescued at 5:38 am after their rubber dinghy was located by a Sasemar helicopter about 115 kilometers southeast of this island.

    Large number of arrivals continue

The Atlantic route from western Africa to the Canary Islands has been increasingly used by migrant smugglers who launch boats from Morocco, Western Sahara, Mauritania and even as far away as Senegal and The Gambia.

More than 11,500 migrants have reached the Atlantic archipelago so far this year, according to the latest IOM figures (as of September 19). Last year, 22,316 migrants arrived on the Canaries, a slight decrease from a record 23,271 the year before that.

Strong currents and other risks make the Atlantic route one of the deadliest to Europe. According to the IOM, the UN’s migration agency, 349 migrants have died or disappeared so far this year. The IOM admits the true death toll is likely much higher.

    ,

More than 16,000 illegal immigrants from Africa have landed in the Canary Islands this year. Such an immigration flow is fraught with a humanitarian catastrophe.

The refugees are mostly young men. They ventured on a life-threatening route from the West African coast across the Atlantic, because they cannot legally enter Europe. They are not given tourist visas or work permits. But they seriously believe that success awaits them only in Europe, and they are not afraid of anyone or anything. Meanwhile, hundreds die along the way.

    Dream to work in Europe

    Photo: DW

Aziz, a French-speaking immigrant from Africa, says: “There were many waves on the sea. wet and cold all the time, you only dream of putting on dry warm clothes. It is humanly impossible to sleep: it is very narrow.”

It was difficult, but Aziz held on. Nine days later, having sailed 13 thousand kilometers, the boat began to sink, the diesel engine failed. Then they were picked up by a Spanish rescue cruiser. He took a crowded boat in tow and pulled it to the harbor of the tourist city of Los Cristianos in the south of Tenerife.

Aziz says: “I will never do it again. It was very hard… I have no money at home, I want to work and get real money. Only to work. This is my dream. To work in Europe. No matter where and how, I can work.”

At the end of May, Aziz and 90 other young Africans from the coast of Senegal crowded into a boat to fulfill their dream of Europe. Aziz paid dearly for his dream: he had to pay one and a half thousand euros. Where he got such money, he does not say.

They were not expected in Europe

Aziz is 20 years old, he is a lanky guy, and when he speaks, he looks at the ground. He has in his pocket – the decision to deport. He is not legally allowed to work. In Tenerife, he spent two months in a camp for illegal immigrants. Now he lives at the Red Cross base in the small town of Arona, not knowing what to do next. Doesn’t want to go home. In a telephone conversation with his parents, he said that he was doing well. He did not tell them that Europe did not need them.

    Photo: AP

Police Chief Luis Carrión watches intently as another boat with a hundred African boys arrives. This is the second one this morning. Louis didn’t have time to eat breakfast or put on his uniform. He hopes that no one else will come. But the sea cannot be blocked by a wall.

There are many tourists in the Canary Islands. Among them is the Englishman Michael with the right parting of silver hair and a slightly burnt nose. He says of the new arrivals: “It’s unpleasant. I came here to enjoy the sun and the beach. But all I see is boats with blacks on the pier, at least once a day. And after all, all these people are not the poorest: they had money otherwise they would not be able to buy a place in the boat. They are healthy and strong, and they are not dressed in rags. But Europe has enough of its needy!”

The problem needs to be addressed

International Red Cross (ICC) spokesman Domingo Martín Garcia said more than 100,000 illegal immigrants from Africa are preparing to cross over to the Canary Islands. This is the number of potential immigrants from West Africa today concentrated on the coast of Mauritania and Senegal, waiting to be sent to the Canary Islands.

    Photo: AP

He warned that “if the flow of immigrants is not stopped, the archipelago will soon face epidemics, food shortages, rampant crime, paralysis of power.”

Citizens of West African countries, mainly Mali, Senegal, Gambia, Cape Verde, get to the Canary Islands located in the Atlantic Ocean on large boats with a motor with a capacity of up to 150 people within 7-10 days. Upon arrival in the archipelago, they, as a rule, voluntarily surrender to the local authorities and, after a short stay in centers for the temporary detention of illegal immigrants, are released.

Legislation prohibits the detention of immigrants for more than 40 days. Spain cannot send Africans to their homeland, because the arrivals do not have documents and refuse to give their citizenship. (сх)

    Hello everyone!

I have been living in the Canary Islands since 2011.

Went from illegal, undocumented (settled) to the owner of a disco bar in the most fashionable area of the island of Tenerife.

Where I would like to start, I did not regret a single day that I decided to move from sunny Alma-Ata to the Canary Islands.

We can say that immigration is not a simple matter and therefore requires detailed consideration!

There are no identical stories in this difficult matter, there are similar moments, but each of this path goes in its own way.

Write your questions, we will analyze the situation together.

Have a good mood and success in the new year.

Most people are under the impression that the Canaries are EXPENSIVE!

I will help dispel this belief.

The only thing that is out of bounds is plane tickets (from the BC from 600 to 1000 euros in both directions, if you book tickets in advance)

Accommodation from 20 euros per night until ………. housing prices are reduced, usually from March to September. The rest of the time, high season (because it’s winter everywhere and summer here)

Most people go to the Canary Islands for: crystal clear beaches that meet all European requirements, walks through untouched forests, surfing, wine surfing, kiting, diving, weddings, photo sessions, yoga, childbirth and other medicine and much more, everyone will find something to their liking.

Friends from Kazakhstan constantly come to us and many of them can no longer travel to other countries, they don’t like it there and visit the Canary Islands every year, or even twice a year.

The climate here is very pleasant, gentle and not sultry, as happens in other countries.

Often people come here for half a year or more to improve their health and the health of their children.

The air is saturated with sea water and iodine, which is immediately evident from the growth of hair and nails (they grow very quickly).

Absolutely all the islands are full of flowers! It is really very beautiful.

It is necessary to monitor, in theory, on the islands the price tag should be higher due to logistics.
Work only in tourism? There seems to be no production there for the mainland. In the low season, everyone lives in anticipation of the high season?

Where is everything) from the processing of oil products to the production of water by collecting dew, production? production of what? you can do anything! a number of goods imported from America to Europe go through customs clearance in the Canary Islands. No one is waiting for any seasons here. Subletting in Spain is generally prohibited. If they work on rent, then these people buy this property, which brings money, and does not suck it out.

    Hello

, I want to live and work. moneyless option

Hello, you still need funds for a ticket and the first time … you also need to understand what skills you have. Understand, I’m not offering a job, I can suggest the way to start.

Good afternoon! I am also considering options for permanent residence in distant and warm countries. Now I live in Kazakhstan, I’m already sick of him. In Russia, the same clowns in the government, and in general the CIS is not an option. I’m in the business of subletting apartments here. I understand that in the Canary Islands, too, can this be arranged?

In general, they were interested. I want to fly in the low season, reconnoiter the situation, and relax a bit.

    Hello!

I’m interested in how in the Canary Islands, the situation with knitted work at the service station?

Is it possible to get a job illegally, for example, as a chiropractor or painter?

DD. It’s better to see once than hear a hundred times) Come, see everything with your own eyes. Many people are engaged in renting real estate here. The Canaries are European (Sochi), for example, in Mallorca, on October 10 there is nothing to do, and in the Canaries the peak begins.

    Hello,

Things are going well in this regard) There is a lot of demand, not very good offers, if they do well, then the queue is 2 months in advance.

You can always find a place in the sun if your hands grow from the right place.

One friend here, right on the street in the parking lot (remote), is engaged in minor editing of dents and scratches.
